- 2:13champion that's never been on this show before.
- 2:16And I know he is a Piston guy and a lot of New York Knick fans
- 2:21are probably there. Why are you getting a?
- 2:22Because he's a New York guy, ladies and gentlemen, and we're
- 2:24very happy to have him. We're now talking to 12 year NBA
- 2:28point guard Mr. Mike James. Mike, what's up, buddy?
- 2:32How are you doing? You were ranked in the top 30
- 2:35today and we've been in the top 100 for over 2 months.
- 2:39We're kicking ass and taking names and we're kicking the hell
- 2:42at a Rick D Pietro's ESPN show right now tonight.
- 2:45I'm just saying I have to throw. That at you.
- 2:47Anyways, Mike, I, I am. I'm a New Yorker, man.
- 2:51I'm a New Yorker. I'm a New Yorker, as we all, and
- 2:53you are too. You're an Amityville, Amityville
- 2:56alum, and we're happy to have you on.
- 2:58You've never been on the show and I'm just excited to have you
- 3:00on because we had Metta World Peace on last week.
- 3:02Now we have another New Yorker from Long Island, another
- 3:05representative. I I know a little bit about your
- 3:07park. I checked out your park that you
- 3:10built over the years. Tell us a little bit about the
- 3:13the thought of bringing and putting a park together for all
- 3:16the fans and all the all the kids out there in Amityville.
- 3:18I mean, that was, that was my safe haven when I was a kid.
- 3:24And I was always, regardless of what was going on in the
- 3:29community, I always had access to be in the park.
- 3:34And, you know, when I was a kid, my park was considered
- 3:37dangerous. And most of the kids, they had,
- 3:41you know, courts in the front yard.
- 3:43And so I wanted to create it to make it a place to be a safe
- 3:48place for kids, you know, where they can go and, you know, put a
- 3:52little, little flavor with it. And just the remembrance and
- 3:57remind me of like what I used to have to do just to continue to
- 4:01keep my peace and my sanity and myself.
- 4:04I always had the gym in the park to always go to.
- 4:09So you're addressed by the Miami Heat kind of at the beginning of
- 4:11that Pat Riley era, I think you a year before Dwyane Wade, it
- 4:15really went over there as well. What was it like when you first
- 4:18got the call that you were when you going to Miami?
- 4:21You know the funny story about the Miami Heat The Miami Heat
- 4:27story is 1. I had a, it was, it was a three
- 4:35day workout for the heat, like a weekend workout.
- 4:40They had about maybe 20 free agents there.
- 4:44And I, they didn't know nothing about me.
- 4:47They just probably was just throwing me in there just to
- 4:49look out for someone. And I, I killed everyone and
- 4:56they said, wait, Mike, we couldn't evaluate you in three
- 4:58days. Myself and Malik Allen, they was
- 5:02like, can you guys stay another three days so we can evaluate
- 5:05you? So they brought in another 20
- 5:08free agents. We killed everybody.
- 5:11And they said, Mike, we couldn't evaluate you in three days.
- 5:15I mean, in the week. So can you stay?
- 5:18So can you stay a little longer for another week?
- 5:21So I did the same thing they did, brought free agents in
- 5:24again and it was the same result.
- 5:26And they put me on a partial contract and then I got, I made
- 5:32it all the way to the end and I was the final cut behind one of
- 5:37the greatest New York point guards to ever play the game.
- 5:40And I found out personally why he was one of the greatest New
- 5:45York point guards to ever play the game, Rod Strickland.
- 5:48And then I went to the CBA and, you know, killed in the CBA and
- 5:57from the CBA, Miami signed me back.
- 6:01I think one of my biggest, one of my worst decisions, I, I
- 6:05can't say that, but one of the decisions that I could probably
- 6:09say was one of my worst decisions is when, when I was in
- 6:13the CBA, San Antonio gave me, this is right before Tony Parker
- 6:18came to the, I played against Tony Parker the year before in
- 6:23France and I killed them. You know, our team used to kill
- 6:26them. So he already knew who I was.
- 6:28I knew who he was and really wasn't impressed with him.
- 6:31But this is the year before they signed him.
- 6:34I was, I got a 10 day contract with the San Antonio Spurs.
- 6:40And when the Miami Heat found out that I got a 10 day, they
- 6:43signed me for the remainder of the year and guaranteed me for
- 6:47the year. And I was like, shit, 10 days,
- 6:49you know, guaranteed whole year. I wasn't thinking Pat Riley,
- 6:53Gregg Popovich, you know what I mean?
- 6:56And so if I would have had, you know, people helping me
- 6:59understand like how Gregg Popovich really values people
- 7:03that he sees something in it was just a little different.
- 7:06And just, you know, so even like the whole era, just getting to
- 7:11the Miami Heat, I think that Pat Riley had kind of like a a mixed
- 7:16relationship with me because he had to learn me and he had to
- 7:20learn me through the fact of him finding me.
- 7:22So he think that I owed him something.
- 7:25So you had the opportunity to play for one of the most
- 7:27historical winning organizations in the Boston.
- 7:30I really can't hear that, I'm sorry.
- 7:33Yeah. We ask your question.
- 7:34I'll really. No, I was just gonna ask him,
- 7:37you know, how was it playing in Boston and, you know, teaming up
- 7:40with those guys that being able to, you know, compete for the
- 7:44box of suchas and being a part of a historical winning
- 7:47franchise. That was one of the main
- 7:49reasons. This is when I was my second
- 7:52year, I was playing in Miami, my third.
- 7:55That third year Miami wanted to give me, they wanted to give me
- 7:59a multi year deal. And this is one of my other and
- 8:13I'm I think I'm I, I don't think I'm just good and arrogantly
- 8:17thinking I'm good, but I think I'm better than what people are
- 8:19giving me value for. And so he played in the summer
- 8:23league and I was playing against Travis Best and all of these
- 8:27guys and they was Boston was about to sign Travis Best and
- 8:31they Jim O'Brien came to the Jim O'Brien came to the the workout
- 8:38and he saw me kicking like all the pros butts and Roger Bell,
- 8:43all of them was kicking chairs. And he looked at me and he said,
- 8:46Mike, I can't give you no money, but I can give you a chance.
- 8:51And I said, he said, I'm only going to give you minimal.
- 8:55And here it is. Miami is about to give me a
- 8:57multi year deal and and they was just like, I can only give you a
- 9:02partial a just a minimal gown and just a chance.
- 9:05And I was my first year starting in the NBA and I was averaging
- 9:1010/5 and five, you know, as a starter with Paul Pierce and
- 9:15when Antoine Walker was there and all these guys.
- 9:18So it was an amazing opportunity that Jim O'Brien gave me.
- 9:23But here's the here's the funny story.
- 9:26You know, John Carroll was the head assistant coach for the
- 9:32Boston Celtics. John Carroll when I signed to go
- 9:36to Duquesne University, That's a funny story in itself.
- 9:39I got my scholarship out the park.
- 9:43You know, they came to see me play and saw me do 2 moves and
- 9:46said we're going to bring you on a visit that Sunday.
- 9:50We worked out playing with all the Long Island Panthers.
- 9:54Shout out to Gary Charles and we was we was working out.
- 10:01He and I did 2 moves, went to a workout on Monday.
- 10:05They flew me in, signed my signed my scholarship on that
- 10:09Wednesday. They said, Mike, it's too late
- 10:11in the year. You can't, you can't sign no
- 10:15contract. Just trust me.
- 10:16They wrote on like a a little yellow pad and just basically
- 10:20just said, just come to this is the secretary's AD, this is her
- 10:24number. Just come on.
- 10:25The first day my boys brought me to college and John Carroll was
- 10:30the head coach. He told me I was the worst
- 10:33basketball player he's ever seen play basketball.
- 10:36He told me he said that he would rather have a walk on start
- 10:40before he let me start in the game.
- 10:42So here it is, you know, all of this happened.
- 10:46I'm distraught, my trauma is high.
- 10:48I got records in Amityville for shooting threes.
- 10:51I think I'm a really good shooter.
- 10:53And here it is. This man is telling me I am
- 10:55trash. And so now Fast forward, he's
- 11:01the head assistant coach for the Boston Celtics and I'm the
- 11:04starting point guard for the Boston Celtics.
- 11:07I never brought it up. I never said anything to him.
- 11:10But I used to look at him, I'll be like, yo coach, come rebound
- 11:13for me. And I would make the ball.
- 11:15I would make the ball shoot short so it it could go long.
- 11:19So he had to go run and chase balls.
- 11:21And in my head and in my head, I used to always think, man, you
- 11:27don't tell no kid like that, You know, you don't try to break no
- 11:31kid because you never know who that kid going to be.
- 11:33But I never brought it up to him.
- 11:34I never said anything. And then when when Jim O'Brien
- 11:41quit, when the trade happened with Antoine Walker and all of
- 11:44them and all of that stuff happened, he, John Carroll
- 11:49became the interim head coach. And one day we was in the game
- 11:53and I was just standing on. We was, he was given like a, a,
- 11:57a play. And the play was for me.
- 12:00And I was standing there and I'm sitting there like, wow, look at
- 12:05this. This is the same man that told
- 12:07me I could never be nothing as in college and he's my head
- 12:12coach in the NBA. That's crazy.
- 12:16I was like, this is crazy. One of my best Boston moments
- 12:20was we was playing against we was playing against Memphis When
- 12:27when what's his name, White Chocolate?
- 12:30Jason Williams was there and it was like the beginning of the
- 12:34season and Jim O'Brien drew a Paul Pierce just fouled out the
- 12:39game. Vin Bakers on the team, Eric
- 12:41Williams, all these guys is on the team.
- 12:44Anton Walker, Jim O'Brien drew up a play.
- 12:47It was like maybe 5-6 seconds left in the game.
- 12:51Did you ever play and said, OK, we're going to get the ball of
- 12:53Mike, we're going to step out the way.
- 12:55Mike, you go one-on-one, we win the game.
- 12:57Paul said what man, you blown? I wish you would.
- 13:02That's stupid. We got then we got this yadda,
- 13:05yadda, yadda. And all I'm thinking to myself
- 13:08is, oh, it's a wrap. This game is over.
- 13:11So as soon as you know the play start.
- 13:15Paul did all his cussing, whatever I'm he drew up the play
- 13:19I make the I, I, I, I, I do my whatever move one-on-one on.
- 13:22Jason Williams hit the shot buzzer beater, we win the game.
- 13:26I'm screaming, have faith in me, have faith in me.
- 13:29And guess who's picking me up at half court?
- 13:31The first person picking me up is Paul.
- 13:33I'm like, man, get out of here. But you know, these are the
- 13:38things that I've always had to when you when you when you talk
- 13:42about the stories of the NBA. I didn't really get to enjoy the
- 13:47NBA because I used to always fight adversity.
- 13:50I remember when I played in Milwaukee, you know, I had eight
- 13:55threes with like, with like. I looked up at the clock and it
- 14:01was the third quarter and it was still like 8 minutes and like 30
- 14:05seconds in the game. I said, oh, I said I don't know
- 14:09how many threes I'm about to make, but it's a rap.
- 14:12Something is coming down tonight.
- 14:14That's all I thought to myself. I was like, I don't know what's
- 14:17about to take place, but some record is coming down tonight.
- 14:22Terry Porter was the head coach. He was telling he subbed the
- 14:26players in. We blowing Boston out.
- 14:28This is after we, you know, I got traded to Detroit.
- 14:31We can go backwards and talk about Detroit.
- 14:33Yeah, we're going to get back. Yeah, but I got traded.
- 14:39I got I forgot what I was talking.
- 14:43About Oh, you were talking. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 14:46OK, OK, OK. I got I I was shooting the
- 14:48threes and then the end of the game, I finished the game like 8
- 14:52for 15 from the three-point line.
- 14:54We blew Boston out. I had like 28 points.
- 14:57You know, I'm playing the game, whatever, whatever.
- 15:00Everyone's happy. Ha ha.
- 15:02I go in the locker room, Terry Porter says who the F you think
- 15:05you are? You think you just going to be
- 15:07shooting shots like that? We play against them next week,
- 15:09don't you think? You ain't.
- 15:10And I'm sitting there like, man, I'll do.
- 15:13I'm sitting there like, are you serious right now?
- 15:16Like, wait a minute, who gets young there for Kelly?
- 15:20I said hold on, dog. I said hold on, dog.
- 15:24This is crazy. So most of the times when
- 15:27everyone else was celebrating me, I was still going home
- 15:30confused and heartbroken a little bit.
- 15:33You know most I have more memories and stories of being
- 15:36playing the game and the coach cussing me out and telling me I
- 15:39ain't nothing, I should be happy I'm even in the league.
- 15:42And so it was always, it was never my game, it was always the
- 15:47person. And then when it became the
- 15:50person, they would challenge the person and then they would
- 15:53realize now I'm from Amityville, what y'all talking about?
- 15:57So even when they start talking like yo you ain't even from New
- 16:00York, you from Long Island. Now hold on.
- 16:03I hate when. People do my special.
- 16:06When people like Mike, I hate when people say that you go out.
- 16:10I go out to these summits and I'm dealing with all these radio
- 16:13guys and they're like, oh, well, you're not really from New York.
- 16:16If you're not from Manhattan or Brooklyn or Queens.
- 16:18I'm like, wait a second, I am from New York, I'm from Long
- 16:21Island, and I should be respected just like any one of
- 16:24those boroughs. There's 8 million people living
- 16:26here, and why can't I be compared to any one of those
- 16:29guys? I'm better than all of them and
- 16:31I can tell them to shove it up their ass.
- 16:33But you know what, I, I look at it, I look at it the same way
- 16:37like this when, when you're from Long Island, you go a little bit
- 16:41harder, of course, then you when, when a cat is from the
- 16:45boroughs because you got something to prove.
- 16:47So what they don't understand is when you even talk jail
- 16:51language, it's the catch from the island that's running the
- 16:55jails and not the catch from the boroughs because they've been
- 16:58going hard and they don't understand that when you start
- 17:02looking at Long Island cats, they got to live up to like even
- 17:05like I remember when I was in prep school, one of my boys, he
- 17:08was my boy. He was playing around, but he
- 17:10was a little serious when he said it.
- 17:12And I was like, man, you really playing.
- 17:14But he said, Mike, I could whoop you.
- 17:16And I said, man, what makes you think you could whip me?
- 17:18He said, Mike, I'm already one up on you.
- 17:20I'm from the Bronx, you from Long Island.
- 17:23Like you know what I'm saying? Like I've been fighting this my
- 17:27whole life, like, you know, having to prove yourself all
- 17:32because you from so even when I play basketball, like you don't
- 17:35understand, I've been playing against City players my whole
- 17:38life and I've been a new, I've been a Long Island basketball
- 17:41player. So I had to be extra rough.
- 17:43I had to be extra tough. I had to be extra.
- 17:46So you know what I'm saying? So anytime I saw anybody from
- 17:50New York City, it was just I could be playing against Steph.
- 17:55And I'm not thinking about a pro athlete right now.
- 17:58I'm thinking about Brooklyn right now.
- 18:00I'm thinking about, man you. You're not better than me.
- 18:03I see, Skip, I'm thinking Queens right now.
- 18:05Are you not better than me? I'm a Long Island boy, and I'm
- 18:08going to show you right now I'm nicer than you.
- 18:10And so it was always just that New York thing, you know what I
- 18:14mean? That was way, way more important
- 18:18then. And then it it felt even it was
- 18:20so much sweet in it for me because I was like, man, and I'm
- 18:23from Long Island now what? And so that was even more that
- 18:27made even more of a how I was playing and how I was doing it
- 18:32because when I always came to the city, my swag never changed.
- 18:36And the swag was still, yeah, Amityville in the building.
- 18:39Like we ain't, I'm not, I'm not playing against low barrel.
- 18:43I want, I want to add this and I want everybody to know who we're
- 18:45speaking to. We're talking to former 12 year
- 18:48NBA point guard Mike James. He played from 2001, 2014, won a
- 18:53championship in 2004 with the Pistons.
- 18:57It's one of the better teams that you can remember in the
- 18:59Eastern Conference when you talk about Rasheed Wallace, Ben
- 19:01Wallace. I was a huge Rick Hamilton fan.
- 19:05I love Prince and I, I love Chauncey Billups.
- 19:08He was a game breaker, always kicked everybody's ass,
- 19:11especially the New York Knicks. But I want to say something.
- 19:14And there are a lot of Long Islanders that have come out and
- 19:17played in the NBA. And if you look at the list, you
- 19:19have Julius Irving, who played it for Roosevelt, Tobias Harris,
- 19:23who's still in the NBA right now, Danny Green from North
- 19:25Babylon, Wally Zerbiak, Tom Gugliotta, Mitch Kubchak.
- 19:30I mean, you have all these guys, Jeff Roland.
- 19:33So there's there's a lot of them.
- 19:35And your name is on this list, but it's a short list.
- 19:38It's a real short list. AJ Price, Amityville.
- 19:42You know, AJ so Speedy Claxton, we saw what he did with Hoster
- 19:45this year. Toby Knight.
- 19:48When you look at Long Island, a lot of people would say this is
- 19:51a basketball place, This isn't a sports place, but it's it's
- 19:53growing now. James Mike, if you look at what
- 19:56we've seen right now in Long Island, look at the hockey
- 19:58players that have been drafted over the last couple of years,
- 20:01first round draft pick, second round talents.
- 20:03If you look at baseball, look at the talent that's been drafted
- 20:06over the years and now you look at football.
- 20:09Now some of the Long Island talent that's coming out of
- 20:12football, we have one right now pressing carry who's going to be
- 20:15playing for Georgia this year, could be a first round talent in
- 20:17the future. I think Long Island is building
- 20:19and everybody looks at Long Island.
- 20:21They say this is a lacrosse place, but they don't realize
- 20:24that there's a lot of. Talent out here, and that's why
- 20:26we're going out there. We're trying to build it.
- 20:28We have a Long Island mouth that we're building here for high
- 20:30school sports. We want to put them on the map
- 20:33and I think somebody like you can help us.
- 20:35I think that we could be working together.
- 20:37I have some Long Island NFL players.
- 20:40Chris Collier right now plays for the Raiders, and Dylan
- 20:44Lauby, he's another Raider right now playing as a running back
- 20:47over there with the Raiders. We need these Long Islanders to
- 20:49stand behind the game right now. And all the sports put Long
- 20:53Island in the map, give Long Island opportunity for a voice.
- 20:57And that's what we're here for, that we're one of the best radio
- 20:59shows in the country that people are starting to recognize.
- 21:02And. And here's the thing, we don't
- 21:03beat around a Bush. Yeah, we're from Long Island.
- 21:05Most of us Q's from Georgia, actually, he's from North
- 21:08Carolina and he lives in Georgia.
- 21:10Speed. He's from Connecticut, but we're
- 21:12we're based out of Long Island. We want everybody to know that
- 21:15we're not afraid of anybody. We're going to go at you and I,
- 21:17I love your personality. I want to get into the Pistons,
- 21:20man, because the Pistons to me were as dominant of an Eastern
- 21:25Conference team in the early 2000s than we've ever seen.
- 21:28What they did to what you guys did to the Lakers, the Shaquille
- 21:31O'Neal Lakers, the Kobe Bryant Lakers.
- 21:34I mean, that was a story by itself.
- 21:37You know, that team, it was just a bunch of just real dogs.
- 21:47You know, everyone on the team probably was overlooked at some
- 21:51point in their career or misjudged or miscalculated, but
- 21:55together form like Voltron. You know, when you you look at
- 22:01you look at RIP's career when he played in Washington, RIP was
- 22:05having a damn good career. He was having some damn good
- 22:07career at what he was doing, but it was overlooked and overcast
- 22:11by so much other. You look at Chauncey, he's
- 22:14bouncing around, but everywhere he went he was continuing to
- 22:18keep getting better and better and better.
- 22:20It's just so happy you couldn't find nowhere to stick.
- 22:22You look at Rasheed, he's leading the league in technical
- 22:26fouls and don't nobody want to deal with them.
- 22:28And he's such a hard person and just controlling.
- 22:32He just needs to be controlled. And so now you look at you know,
- 22:36Ben, he's a undersized big man, but now you got a 7 foot power
- 22:40forward. And but it's just like when you
- 22:43put everyone and you look at the bitch, you look at the Eldon
- 22:46Campbell's God bless your soul. You know, the Darvin hams, just
- 22:50a monster. You talk about myself, Lindsay
- 22:53Hunter, the pit Bulls, like you pick a star team, but we're
- 22:56coming off the bench, Darko. Miller, but he'll.
- 23:00Be one of the best players in the league right now and you
- 23:03have a memo memo occur who killed in Utah, But he was a 6th
- 23:08man 7th man with Detroit put us all together.
- 23:12It was all nothing but tough nails.
- 23:15Everybody was tough, but at the end of the day, the workouts was
- 23:18like key Lago Larry Brown was so cool.
- 23:22You know Larry Brown would say hey, the working bees like hey,
- 23:26the he was like hey, the the white collar guys y'all can
- 23:29leave the working bees. Come on, let's work like you
- 23:31know y'all lazy. They'll come in with sweatpants
- 23:34on or shoes on Todd and he wasn't tripping You know Arnie
- 23:39used to do all little stretches and it was really like little
- 23:41dance moves that we used to have to do so that was cool Like
- 23:46Chauncey and I would be we'll be in practice and Larry be like
- 23:49Chauncey but Mike put some pressure on him and I'll be like
- 23:52Chauncey, you know I know you're going to play 30 some minutes
- 23:54tomorrow like don't trip, I got you.
- 23:56So I'll be screaming and acting like I'm playing them hard, but
- 23:59in reality, and so RIP would you know, we get off the bus, RIP
- 24:03would say, yo, we meeting downstairs in 30 minutes.
- 24:07Whoever eating come on, this is every game.
- 24:10So whoever come in. So all 15 used to go out like a
- 24:13game. So not only were we hanging out,
- 24:17like with not only were we friends on the court, we was
- 24:20friends off the court. Someone have a a birthday party
- 24:23for a 5 year old, the whole team showing up, you know what I'm
- 24:27saying, to a 5 year old's birthday party Like this is
- 24:30something and something that was the most beautiful thing that
- 24:33I've never seen my whole entire career that I've only seen once.
- 24:37And this is the reason why Golden State normally has a
- 24:41great team is when the starters are in the game, the bench is
- 24:45up. But when the bench is in the
- 24:46game, the starters are going crazy.
- 24:48Everyone believes and everyone wants to see the best for the
- 24:52other person. Everyone wants to see the other
- 24:55person win. And so when you have an energy
- 24:58like that and but then when you have everyone that's just tough,
- 25:02but everyone just real. Oh my goodness, it's like
- 25:06whoever eat, let's just eat. We out here.
- 25:09I'm hungry. I, I need myself an Omaha steak.
- 25:11That's what I need. But I, I will, I will say this,
- 25:14my friend, I watch basketball religiously.
- 25:17I've been a big, huge basketball fan growing up.
- 25:20I was a hockey player. But everybody said, what is your
- 25:22sport? What do you love more than
- 25:23anything in the world? And that's the 90s Knicks.
- 25:25I followed the Knicks 94. To me, I just I wanted to throw
- 25:30up. That was our best chance to win.
- 25:31And, and obviously we all know what happened.
- 25:33John Stark, bricklayer. It's just horrible to watch.
- 25:36It just made me sick to my stomach growing up.
- 25:39I know you grew up a Knick fan. I know you grew up a Knick fan,
- 25:41but you also probably watch Michael Jordan and emulated
- 25:44everything Michael Jordan did. When you look at the game now
- 25:47and you look at the past and when you were watching the game
- 25:50and when you were playing in high school, what do you think
- 25:52has been a different look to the transition to what it is today?
- 25:56You've heard the stories of great players.
- 25:59You know, they was just as wild as the guys are today.
- 26:02The only thing that makes them be able to be visible is social
- 26:05media. But you will hear the stories of
- 26:08the Julius Irving getting off the plane and got the limo
- 26:12waiting for him while everybody else going to the bus and got to
- 26:16get on the bus and he got four or five girls in the car.
- 26:19But Julius Irving having 35 tomorrow night with 15 rebounds,
- 26:23you know what I mean? It was play hard but play
- 26:25harder. You know these guys you you hear
- 26:28the stories about how wild they were Michael Jordan be gambling
- 26:32and all hanging out all night drinking and part whatever they
- 26:35was doing. But at the end of the day, when
- 26:37it was game time, they didn't play with game time.
- 26:40You heard about Lawrence Taylor and the sniffing cocaine and
- 26:44sniffing off females and all the wild party.
- 26:47But I want but on Sunday he was the most animal, barbaric person
- 26:54out there. And so he didn't allow what he
- 26:58did to get him interfere with the game.
- 27:02These kids allow what's on the outside interfere with the game.
- 27:07And so it's more of the entertainment of the game
- 27:10instead of taking the game serious.
- 27:12And back in when we played, we didn't play with the game like
- 27:16you can get your whole, you can get embarrassed tonight playing
- 27:19with the game tonight, you can take this game today you can
- 27:21take off. All right, I have a question
- 27:24because one of our previous hosts that was with our network
- 27:26years ago mentioned that Darko Milechick has the greatest
- 27:28nickname ever, the human victory cigar.
- 27:31What is the origin story behind that?
- 27:34I mean, Larry Brown just didn't. He didn't like them.
- 27:37He didn't like, you know, stubborn, you know, sometimes
- 27:40these guys be stuck in their ways and you know, they they be
- 27:48stuck in a ways and baby and they don't know how to evolve
- 27:54with the game. And yes, Darko could have
- 27:57helped, but you know, there was no real position for him there
- 28:00because there was, you know, two players in front of him and he
- 28:03had to spend that time learning. But it was hard with Larry Brown
- 28:06because Larry Brown wasn't really trying to.
- 28:09You know, it's one thing to build a person physically and
- 28:11it's a whole entire another story when you break them down,
- 28:15you know what I mean? I could tell her that that was
- 28:17one of my biggest issues with Pat Riley was he'll build you
- 28:21and turn you into this super monster like your body fat.
- 28:24I didn't have the lowest body fat.
- 28:26My body fat was 4.5. He'd find me.
- 28:29He'd find me because my damn body fat went from 4.5 to 4.8 on
- 28:35a vacation and I still got fine. But anyway, you know, but he was
- 28:39able to change me physically, but mentally he used to break me
- 28:44and mentally I didn't believe like what he used to say about
- 28:47who I was as a player because he never told me, because all he
- 28:50wanted to do was break me and create me into a person that he
- 28:54wanted me to be. But you never created.
- 28:56You never built my mind. And so because you never built
- 28:59my mind, I was still having troubles mental like that mental
- 29:03comfortable comfortableness. And so that becomes the problem
- 29:06with a lot of times is that they want to break you down
- 29:09physically, but they don't want to build you mentally.
- 29:11And that's when you have the total control of the player.
- 29:14That's the the reason why the Popovich's have so much success.
- 29:17That's the reason why you know the Phil Jackson's have so much
- 29:21success because they're not coming from just a physical
- 29:24perspective. They come because they cut you
- 29:26just like any child, like any person, you know, you get their
- 29:29mind. You got them.
- 29:31So like a coach you if I before I before I can get you
- 29:35physically, you're going to buck me mentally If I can't get you
- 29:38physically, but as long as as as soon as I take your bucking from
- 29:42you, man, I got you Mars. Now look at me.
- 29:47I'm your captain now. I, I will say this, you are an
- 29:52interesting cat man. You definitely are.
- 29:54We want to get you on the scope the next time you come on the
- 29:56show because you have an interesting personality.
- 30:00And I, I think that the fans want to see you and we should
- 30:03talk off air because I think you can really help us if right now
- 30:06the growth of Long Island sports is there.
- 30:08We need, we need the some of these X NBA or NBA players right
- 30:12now to come out and help out, just like the NHL we're working
- 30:15with. Let's do it.
- 30:16But I want to say something. There's a story coming out right
- 30:18now, the LeBron James, Michael Jordan comparison.
- 30:21Could you please seal this, that Michael Jordan is the greatest
- 30:24basketball player of all time. There is no comparison.
- 30:27Could we please? Let's let's, let's do this
- 30:30first. Let's do the Michael Kobe
- 30:32comparison. All right, let's do it.
- 30:33You know, one thing, one thing I used to always tell people about
- 30:36the Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant. Michael was the Michael was the
- 30:40robot version, Kobe was the human version, you know, and and
- 30:45and now the LeBron version. See what I value, what I respect
- 30:50about what a person's game yes, you can value his longevity.
- 30:55You know what I'm saying? That's commendable.
- 30:57He takes care of his body. You know recovery.
- 31:01If you're able to recover and do the same things over and over,
- 31:04your mental is always going to take you to a whole nother
- 31:07level. You've been able to handle your
- 31:09body in a way to keep it rejuvenated.
- 31:12That's what's up. But other than that, the value
- 31:15of a player comes in the last five minutes of the fourth
- 31:19quarter. And if you put LeBron James
- 31:22percentage, just the out, just the average alone of his average
- 31:27of his career, the last five minutes in the fourth quarter,
- 31:30he probably shooting about 37%. He probably averaging over 3
- 31:34turnovers. He probably shooting from the
- 31:36free throw line less than 60%. And this is when it's winning
- 31:40time and this is how you compare winners and champions, not just
- 31:44statistics. It's easy to blow up statistics
- 31:47when you played a long period of time and you can get 30
- 31:50something points in the 1st, 3/4 and 8 minutes left in the game.
- 31:54Now all of a sudden the last five minutes you go ghost, like
- 31:58hold up dawg, what happened? We need 10 points from you.
- 32:01We need 4 assists from you dawg. We need you to shoot 90% from
- 32:04the free throw line. But you peeing on yourself just
- 32:07because you had 35, just because you had 35 and 14 and 10
- 32:12rebounds for the game has nothing to do with the last five
- 32:16minutes of the game. This is winning time and you
- 32:18looking for other people to do it.
- 32:20That's not fair. It's not fair to how you patting
- 32:23them stats. That's patch that.
- 32:27That's why I like you, the Long Islanders.
- 32:29They're straightforward. They don't beat around the Bush
- 32:32and we smack people around as we always.
- 32:34Do yes, you are you you haven't won.
- 32:38See, the problem is Scottie Pippen.
- 32:40Yeah, Scottie Pippen. You got to understand Michael
- 32:42Jordan made you great. Like you didn't get tough until
- 32:45Michael Jordan had your back. Like Michael Jordan defended you
- 32:49more than anybody else. Remember every time the Xavier
- 32:52McDaniels them fights was your. Fight.
- 32:55They was punking you and Michael Jordan was like, hold up, dawg,
- 32:59you ain't going to be doing all that now.
- 33:01They do all of it. Michael face.
- 33:04So you got your confidence through Michael.
- 33:08You didn't even get your game. You didn't even get your game
- 33:11through yourself. So who you became and when you
- 33:14got your chance to, when you got your chance to be your great
- 33:17person, you show you need some help.
- 33:21You can't do this by yourself. Michael, of course, needed you.
- 33:25You was his Robin. You ain't never seen Batman beat
- 33:28up anybody or win anything by himself.
- 33:31I love it. They always got either or out of
- 33:34something, but they always had each other's back.
- 33:37That's you the greatest. But that's who I compare Magic
- 33:40John. I mean, I, I compare LeBron to a
- 33:43Magic Johnson. People disrespect and devalue
- 33:46Mike Magic Johnson and who Magic Johnson was to the game of
- 33:49basketball and how what and Mike Magic Johnson had a third eye.
- 33:54Like I look at I laugh at who The Who, who like leading the
- 33:57league in assists. You got centers leading the
- 33:59league in assists. The point guards back in the
- 34:02days were how dare that be the problem.
- 34:04If the centers are average and 10 assists, I promise you Magic
- 34:07Johnson would have been averaging 1718.
- 34:10I promise you those guys like, you know, they look at a Rod
- 34:13Strickland and he averaged 20 and 10 for his career.
- 34:16But like 2010 assists was like, are you serious?
- 34:20That is so hard to get in the NBA and especially during that
- 34:24time and these guys was able to get it like it was nothing.
- 34:27Like you look at these point guards now, they even look at
- 34:30Steph Curry. I look at Steph Curry and you
- 34:33call him. You call him the greatest point
- 34:35guard to ever. Play today, tell him I'm loving
- 34:38it. The problem I have.
- 34:39The problem I have with Steph Curry being the greatest point
- 34:42guard to ever play the game is the fact that you don't watch
- 34:46Steph Curry make point guard plays.
- 34:48You watch Steph Curry make plays for himself.
- 34:51You watch Steph Curry make shots.
- 34:53You watch Steph Curry shoot great, unbelievable, incredible
- 34:56shots. He's the greatest shooter to
- 34:57ever step on the court and play the game of basketball.
- 35:01But you don't watch Steph Curry make plays for other people.
- 35:05A point guard is a leader, a general, a playmaker.
- 35:08He has plays for other people. Steph Curry is just a stone cold
- 35:13killer. He probably one of the greatest
- 35:15killers, but if you put him on your greatest team all time,
- 35:18he's too small. I agree.
- 35:20I agree. Manny too, Manny too small.
- 35:23He going to be a he going to be a, he's always on the liability.
- 35:26He's always on the worst defender on the other team.
- 35:29Steph Curry has the easiest job in the NBA in basketball.
- 35:33He runs off screens and they always fought and they always
- 35:36looking for him. Everybody looks for the first
- 35:39option at all times and he's just going to.
- 35:41You got to chase him at all times.
- 35:44Mike. You run him, he runs you so
- 35:47crazy that you don't even want to play against him no more.
- 35:50Now he got you one-on-one. Mike, you're absolutely right.
- 35:54This is why us Long Island Islanders know what we're
- 35:58talking about. So I've been arguing this on
- 36:00this show for years. I do not believe Steph Curry is
- 36:04a point guard. The fact that they put him in
- 36:05the top ten of all time is ridiculous.
- 36:07If you want to put him at 10, fine.
- 36:08Put him at 10. He's the greatest shooter of all
- 36:10time. Point guard?
- 36:12Get out of here. He's not better than Isaiah
- 36:14Thomas. He's not better than John
- 36:15Stockton. He's not better than Magic
- 36:17Johnson. He's not better than anyone of
- 36:19those guys chasing Kidd. He's not better than any other.
- 36:22He's not even better than Chauncey Billups was.
- 36:25OK, He's not a point. Guard away.
- 36:32Small too. That's what I think.
- 36:34He's a 2. He had he just a great shooter.
- 36:37I love Kyrie. More I do too.
- 36:39I like him. I love Kyrie has the best ball
- 36:43he see I'm from New York and you got had that pity pad with you.
- 36:47You got that pity cat with him though.
- 36:48I don't like basic point guards. You got to have a swag on the
- 36:52court where you got that ball in your head like that.
- 36:55Basic stuff is for the birds though.
- 36:58Mike, you're fantastic. You have to come on this show.
- 37:01We we got to get you on a scope. We definitely we got to talk off
- 37:05air. I want to we're doing some stuff
- 37:07with high school and and Long Island sports.
- 37:09You can really help out. And I think it's great what you,
- 37:12the background and the stories behind you and all the hard work
- 37:15that you had to to go and, and, and really deliver and become
- 37:19the player that you became in the NBA is pretty great story.
- 37:22And and that's what we do. That's what we go out.
- 37:24We go out there every single show, no matter how we go out,
- 37:26we want everybody to know that we're going to go out there.
- 37:28We're going to give 110% and we're going to make sure
- 37:30everybody hears what we have to say.
- 37:32We're not like everybody else. We're not copying Stephen A
- 37:35Smith or Chris Russo, Mike Francesa, we don't do that.
- 37:38We go out there, we give you our takes.
- 37:41We have a little fun, we argue, we want to kill each other, and
- 37:44then we kiss up. And you know, we kiss, we go.
- 37:48That's your name. That's right.
- 37:51You got to have that New York State of mind.
- 37:54What you mean? That's right.
- 37:55That's right. I love you, Mike.
- 37:58Thank you for joining us. You're.
- 37:59Sensational. You love you guys.
- 38:01Absolutely time, Mike. James, ladies and gentlemen,
- 38:03fantastic. His background, everything about
- 38:06him. I love that he came out, He came
- 38:09out hard. That's what I love about guys
- 38:11like that. He will tell you the truth.
- 38:13He went out there, I asked him about the Michael Jordan.
- 38:15Everybody was like, oh, last question.
- 38:16No, I got to ask you about Michael Jordan.
- 38:18He brought up Kobe Bryant. He very interesting.
- 38:21He said Michael Jordan is the robot version and comedy.
- 38:23Kobe Bryant was the human version.
- 38:25That was very interesting. When you think about that, the
- 38:27comparison and then when he brought up LeBron James, he says
- 38:30it's always about the last five minutes of the game.
- 38:32Go look at LeBron James, the last five minutes of a game and
- 38:35then look at what Michael Jordan has done.
- 38:37He's absolutely right. There is no comparison to
- 38:40anybody when it comes to Michael Jordan.
- 38:42Michael Jordan was a different beast.
- 38:45He was different and anybody. That's never you've seen them
- 38:47and they're trying to compare them.
- 38:48And for all those guys, for all the guys out there and girls
- 38:51that never got a chance to, Michael might watch Michael
- 38:54joining you, watching clips on YouTube and all these different
- 38:57things. I'm telling you right now, it's
- 38:59not the same thing. When I watched basketball in the
- 39:0290s, I had to watch this guy go into Madison Square Garden and
- 39:07put up 50, 6056 every single time and it made me sick to my
- 39:13stomach. We had Patrick Ewing, Charles
- 39:14Oakley, we had all these guys, Anthony Mason, Xavier McDaniel.
- 39:18You heard what he said about Xavier McDaniel.
- 39:21It's just John Starks. It made me sick to my stomach.
- 39:24And and when you heard what Mike James had to say it it it says a
- 39:27lot about what people look at Long Islanders as.
- 39:30They don't look at us as Brooklyn and Queens and
- 39:33Manhattan. We got to compete with all of
- 39:35them. We got to be compared to all of
- 39:37them. And I'm going to tell you this
- 39:38and I'm going to say this once and we're going to move on to
- 39:40the show. And I got to throw this out
- 39:41there for anybody, anybody that thinks that Long Island can't
- 39:45compete with any, any broadcasting or broadcasters out
- 39:49there because we're from a little island and we're not
- 39:52really considered New York any day.
- 39:54Anytime you want to come on this show and you want to argue a
- 39:57point about anything in sports, I promise you, you're going to
- 40:00wish you never came on this show.
- 40:02I could promise you anybody listen to this show right now?
- 40:04I promise you, you come on this show and you want to argue any
- 40:07sports with us, you better have your A game because if you
- 40:10don't, we're going to eat you up alive.
- 40:12I promise you I will not sit here and let you guys just
- 40:14pulverize those. Oh, you're from Long Island.
- 40:16Yeah, I'm from Long Island. I'll eat you up alive.
- 40:18I'll eat you for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
- 40:21And I'll have a little sweet at the end of the night because I
- 40:23love. Wow, we're going to have her
- 40:25first dual sound drop. Nathan has that drop now.
- 40:27You're going to have it. Yes, there you go.
- 40:29All right, let's go into save your tears.
- 40:32Mom, what's one thing? That you can't talk to me about.
- 40:36My sexual fantasies. Say yourself it.
- 40:41Is not ideal, but if it's what it is, not ideal.
- 40:43But if this is not ideal. But if it is what we?
- 40:47You can't treble stamp a double stamp.
- 40:48You can't treble stamp a double stamp, Lord.
- 40:50You can't dribble stamp a double stamp Lord you guys.
- 40:55Now it's time for save your tears.
- 41:01All right, guys, welcome back to Save Your Tears.
- 41:04They call me the ladies man and Mr. Still your girl.
- 41:08Everyone's favorite lightning round type of a fantasy type of
- 41:12thing and we have our five competitors once again the way
- 41:16this works we have guys from the second round of the NBA playoffs
- 41:21$15 salary cap you pick one player from each column.
- 41:24The winner gets the compliment chorus next show I'm going to
- 41:27show you the board. So if you're just listening at
- 41:30home, this is when I tell you we also are can be found on video.
- 41:34We also have a brand new YouTube page that is growing really
- 41:40fast. Go and check it out.
- 41:41It's where we're housing all our clips.
- 41:44Smell my hat and we're. And we're also putting all of
- 41:48the important stuff like Errol's drops that annoy everybody.
- 41:54But Nathan's drops are just so sacred, you have to enjoy them.
- 41:57Bam bam bam. Bam, only so many people enjoy
- 42:01weird kinks. You have to learn that now.
- 42:05Here's the list though. If you're not with the two games
- 42:07we're going to pick are obviously going to stay with the
- 42:10Knicks and Sixers game and we're going to go with that Wolves
- 42:13Spurs game. So here's the list, $5 player.
- 42:16Point guard is Jalen Brunson, followed by Tyrese Maxey, $3 for
- 42:20DE Aaron Fox, 2 for Conley, one for Dylan Harper off the bench
- 42:25at 2. Guard Anthony Edwards is playing
- 42:27tonight. He goes in as a $5 player,
- 42:30followed by Josh Hart, VJ Edgecomb, Stefan Castle and IO
- 42:35Dosanmu at a couple of big games in the first round, $5 at small
- 42:38forward. Kind of slim pickets at small
- 42:40forward. Jaden McDaniels at that big 30
- 42:43point game. Let's give him the five dollar
- 42:45slot. Mikhail Bridges, don't look now
- 42:49Q, he's got 10. He's got 9 points heading into
- 42:51the half. She was going to take Kelly
- 42:54Ubrey at 2:00. Devin Vasell at 3.
- 42:58Kelly Ubrey junior at 2 and for a dollar, Jordan Clarkson at
- 43:03power forward. Julius Randall's the $5 player,
- 43:05followed by OG and a Nobi who's been playing that small bowl for
- 43:08this postseason. Paul George doing the same for
- 43:11$3. Justin Champagne for two and 6th
- 43:15man Kelvin Johnson for a buck. And then at center we all go by
- 43:21Wembe here. It just seems so long doesn't
- 43:23fit in the box, so we're just going to call him Wembe for 5
- 43:26bucks 5 bucks. Karl Anthony Towns for four.
- 43:28Joel Embiid could be a nice fine.
- 43:31There, by the way, I just want to throw something.
- 43:34The Knicks are up 23 by half. At the half, right at the half,
- 43:39killing them. Not surprising.
- 43:41The Knicks are going to win this series in three games.
- 43:44They don't even need 4. It's going to be that that easy
- 43:46for them. I'm just joking.
- 43:47No, I don't think that. I think it goes 5.
- 43:50That's. That's, I think it's five too,
- 43:51probably, but I'm really confident with the Knicks.
- 43:54We'll see with our picks in a little bit.
- 43:56Go Bears $2.00 Nas Reed is the doll.
- 43:59By the way, OG and Anobi is shutting down Mr. Maxi, just so
- 44:03everybody knows. Got to throw that out there.
- 44:05So let's take a look at the board.
- 44:07I I won this one. So I'll announce the order this
- 44:11week. So the first person up will be
- 44:14Mr. Nathan. I'm going to go Dylan Harvard.
- 44:24Actually, scratch that, I'm going to go to Jalen Brunson.
- 44:28Michael, Molly and I'm going to go.
- 44:30Stephon Castle, Molly Watson and then I'm going to go.
- 44:37The Devon vessel. Ram Jam all these prostitutes.
- 44:44Old George. And then I'm going.
- 44:46To go loose. I'm going to go Rudy Gobert.
- 44:50Again, I'm anal. He's. 15.
- 44:52He's all right. All right, the numbers are good.
- 44:54Brunson Castle, Vessel George and Go Bear suck.
- 44:59My Indo. Let's go.
- 45:02To cue. Let me go, Brunts and Whitby.
- 45:08Pass Liquor. Let's go, Castle.
- 45:13Cream pie. Squeeze the cheese.
- 45:21So you got 3 left for the two forward positions.
- 45:27Athletes. Let me do how much you say I got
- 45:32what 3 left for the. 3 left for those two positions.
- 45:35Doo Doo Doo Doo. I mean, you got to take.
- 45:42I love Lisa Ann. After all the crap you've been
- 45:45talking about, Kelly Uber. No, that's what I'm trying to
- 45:48tell y'all. Y'all, y'all making it think
- 45:50y'all act like I'm talking about him as an All Star.
- 45:53I'm just saying like he can contribute.
- 45:55So his contribution of 5 or 710 points ain't going to help me in
- 46:00this situation. Well, you get points for
- 46:03rebounds, assists. It's all the daily fantasy stats
- 46:06on Yahoo. Problem with Kelly Ubrey is it
- 46:09doesn't play defense. I'm going to do.
- 46:11It's not very good. I got $3.00 so.
- 46:14The problem is he's a below average basketball.
- 46:17Yeah, he's a good offensive player, just doesn't play
- 46:19defense, doesn't defend. I can only do it once, so let's
- 46:24do champagne and. And Clarkson.
- 46:34Yeah. Clarkson All right, I got
- 46:39Brunson Castle, Clarkson, Champagne and Wemby.
- 46:44All right, let's move on to Speedy.
- 46:47All right, give me I like the $1.00 value with Harper.
- 46:51I'll take that. Give me Wemby as well.
- 46:56Let's say give me Vassal, give me Randall.
- 47:07And that leaves me with I believe that leaves me with
- 47:10Dassomne. Let me see if I'm doing it
- 47:11right. 5101314 Yeah, that leaves me to some new.
- 47:17All right, so here's what I got for you, Speedy Harper,
- 47:21Dassonne, Vassal Randall, and Wembe Errol.
- 47:29All right, I'm going to go Bronson Desan MU Devon vessel.
- 47:37How much do I have left here? That's nine, so you got 6 left.
- 47:43Web and Yama, Web and Yama and I got one right?
- 47:47Yep. So you got left with Johnson.
- 47:48I'll take Kelvin Johnson. All right, yeah, I got Brunson,
- 47:53The Sun Move a cell, Johnson Wembe.
- 47:55I got to make my team as the defending, reigning, defending
- 47:59champion of this tournament here.
- 48:03I'm going to go with Brunson as well, and I'm going to go a
- 48:11little bit out of character. I'm going to go down to $3.00 to
- 48:16Mr. Embiid at centre, even though I hate that guy.
- 48:22Suck my indo. Exactly.
- 48:27I'm going to go with Johnson at. Forward I farted.
- 48:30As well for a dollar so that gives me 9.
- 48:33I got 6 bucks left for the other for the 2 wings.
- 48:37Butt plug. And oh, interesting.
- 48:42I'm going to go into, all right, somebody's got to do it.
- 48:47I'm going to take Kelly Ubrey junior.
- 48:52It's a good choice. I heard he's really good and
- 48:55like plays great defense and what else was he good at you so?
- 49:01Say a pad. They call me the ladies man and
- 49:02Mr. He's going to make a hack place.
- 49:06He makes an impact and that will give me Josh Hart.
- 49:09No one took Josh Hart. He had a great series last
- 49:11round. Maybe that'll get me the win
- 49:14this one. So I got Brunson and Hart, the
- 49:15Nova boys with Kelly Ubrey, Keldon Johnson and Joelle and
- 49:20the guys will go through these. The winner next Monday after.
- 49:24The We're not counting Tonight games, right?
- 49:26We're Not Tonight game at the first four games of the series.
- 49:29OK. So it's like all of it.
- 49:32All right, So I didn't know that, but OK, All right, that's
- 49:35cool. All right, I thought it was the
- 49:37next game, but it doesn't matter.
- 49:39Great job with Mike James, by the way.
- 49:41Yeah, Mike was great. He really was.
- 49:43I have a lot of respect for him and some of his stories were
- 49:47just absolutely great. And for anybody that missed that
- 49:49interview, check it out. We will post it up.
- 49:52It'll be on Spotify, it'll be on Apple, so you'll get a chance to
- 49:55watch the video. And he wasn't, unfortunately, he
- 49:57was driving. You could tell that he was in
- 49:59his car. But we'll, we'll get him on
- 50:01again and he'll be in studio and but fantastic stories, great
- 50:05background in basketball and his knowledge and understanding the
- 50:08game and how it transitioned. By the way, he pretty much said
- 50:11this, the game now is a bitch game.
- 50:13That's pretty much what he said is that what they did in the 90s
- 50:16is completely different. What they do tonight, tonight or
- 50:19today and and what the game, the basket, what basketball has
- 50:22transitioned into. He says they're not tough.
- 50:24They're they're not tough guys anymore.
- 50:26And, and I, I agree with him and it's funny how he kind of
- 50:29transitioned into the, the LeBron and, and Michael Jordan
- 50:33to Steph Curry and, and point guards and not comparing Steph
- 50:36Curry to a point guard position, which I've been saying for a
- 50:38very, very long time, he's not a point guard.
- 50:40He's a shooting guard. If you want to say that he's one
- 50:43of the greatest shooter guards, I would say yes, but Michael
- 50:47Jordan was a shooting guard. Is he better than Michael?
- 50:49Is he better than Kobe? Is he better than Dwyane Wade?
- 50:52I, I can argue that. That's just my point that those
- 50:55guys play defense too at a high level.
- 50:57That's all I'm going to say. All right, concrete jungle
- 51:00carousel. Welcome to the jungle.
- 51:03We got fun and games. You know where you are, did.
- 51:07You. Do in the jungle, baby welcome.
- 51:10I'm trying to put Tiger Bomb on this jungle's nuts to the
- 51:12concrete jungle carousel. All right, welcome back to the
- 51:26Concrete Jungle Carousel. This is the segment we do when
- 51:29we want to hit all the other major sports in the tri-state
- 51:33area. We're going to start off with
- 51:36baseball. Go through some news and notes
- 51:38with the Yankees first. So Anthony Volpe's rehab window
- 51:42after left shoulder surgery is over, but they did not promote
- 51:46him. He was sent to AAA, presumably
- 51:50because Jose Caballeros played well in his absence.
- 51:53And he hasn't looked great in his rehab and he hasn't looked
- 51:57great in a couple of years. This, however, was very
- 52:01surprising to most fans. And to, you know, general
- 52:04consensus out there was when he came back, he was going to be
- 52:07the shortstop. This was going to be his last
- 52:09chance. They don't seem to be even
- 52:11giving him a chance. Errol.
- 52:14He's got to relax. The kid just came back.
- 52:17He needs to get a little bit more healthier.
- 52:18He needs to get more comfortable.
- 52:19You send him back to AAA, figure things out.
- 52:22He'll be called up eventually. Eventually Cabriero will.
- 52:26How do you pronounce his name? Caballero.
- 52:28Caballero is going to figure, you know, he's going to get it
- 52:31to a slump and Volpe's going to figure it out.
- 52:33I I think Volpe just needs to get healthy at 100%.
- 52:36We got to see him play at 100% AAA.
- 52:39He's going to get more backs over there in AAA and, and the
- 52:42Yankees are right now playing at a high level.
- 52:44Look at what Cam Schlittler's doing.
- 52:45Look at what will Warren's doing.
- 52:47They have the pitching right now.
- 52:49You have guys like Derek Cole coming back, Schmidt's coming
- 52:52back, bro, Don's coming back. This is a great pitching team
- 52:55and and they're getting timely hitting.
- 52:57So and you have Rice at an MVP caliber.
- 53:01You have Judge figuring things out.
- 53:02He's hitting 260 now. I mean, when this lineup starts
- 53:05to fall apart and, and, and Vulpey proves himself right now
- 53:09in AAA, you're going to see him get called up.
- 53:11Don't worry fans, he's going to play at least 80 or 90 games up
- 53:16sometime this year. I think in the next two or three
- 53:18weeks you're going to see Anthony Volpe up.
- 53:21Yeah, just because it's the end of the rehab window doesn't mean
- 53:23he's fully healthy. I agree.
- 53:24Well, let him heal until he's 100% healthy because he's
- 53:26somebody that relies on his power a lot and we still have to
- 53:29work on that base percentage and obviously still have to work on
- 53:31the defense. But if he has to heal that
- 53:32shoulder a little more, that's going to affect the biggest
- 53:34thing in his defense because the throwing ability.
- 53:36So I think let him heal a little more in AAA, Let him not have
- 53:40forced it as much on the defensive side where obviously
- 53:42the Yankee fans are going to give him a lot of pressure, I
- 53:44think. This is a good decision.
- 53:45Qi wanted to connect this to something that maybe you know,
- 53:48you experience as a player when you get drafted high or you have
- 53:52these expectations, it doesn't work out right off the bat.
- 53:54A couple of years in now into that contract, you know, some
- 53:58people have given up on you, some people haven't.
- 54:00What do you think this guy's going through at this time from
- 54:04the mindset of an athlete? I mean, I think it's probably
- 54:08stressful, you know, I'm saying not to have that support there.
- 54:10I think going, you know, being have being injured and then
- 54:15having to deal with people not supporting you, it's, it's
- 54:17pretty difficult because at the end of the day, you know what
- 54:20you're capable of doing. So you have to kind of sit with
- 54:22that and not be able to display how good and gifted you are as a
- 54:26talent. So he's probably, you know, I
- 54:28don't know him personally, but sometimes players battle it
- 54:31through and it don't really bother him.
- 54:33Sometimes people use it as chip on their shoulder and whatnot.
- 54:36But for the most part, you know, I, I think it is human to be
- 54:40able to feel, you know, that people are not supporting you
- 54:44and doubting you. But I think that, you know, is,
- 54:47is, is he progressed in his rehab and, and he get better.
- 54:51I think, you know, that all that goes away because he's having an
- 54:54opportunity to go out and actually play the game.
- 54:56So one of the biggest distraction and one of the
- 54:58greatest gifts that you can have is the opportunity to go out and
- 55:02play the game. And that kind of keeps your
- 55:03mindset stable while you going through the rehab process and
- 55:06trying to get back to who you really are.
- 55:09You know, that's interesting. You said I always kind of agreed
- 55:11with that. Like most people are like, oh,
- 55:12how could you play something bad Just happens.
- 55:14Like that's the best. That's the thing I want to do
- 55:17right now. I don't want to think about any
- 55:18bad stuff that's happening. Let me just get out there, do it
- 55:21and have some fun, you know, and just like get in some of the
- 55:23zone, you know, get into a workout or do whatever it is.
- 55:26Like you don't want to think about those things.
- 55:28And sometimes that's a way to do it.
- 55:30You want a game away, you know what I'm saying?
- 55:31You had that one good game and then you get that momentum and
- 55:34you know, before you know it, you back the peak yourself.
- 55:37So, you know, it's just a process, but you know, sometimes
- 55:40it is difficult knowing that you don't got that support system
- 55:43that you traditionally would have when you're on the up.
- 55:47You know, before we move past the Yankees guy, I said it in
- 55:50The Sportsman. I wanted to give you guys a
- 55:51chance to comment on the passing of John Sterling.
- 55:55I actually have some kind of inside sources, even though he
- 55:59was 87, it was kind of a sudden thing.
- 56:02He was just going in for a routine type of exam for his
- 56:07heart and next morning that was it.
- 56:10So, you know, you never know, God bless his, you know, him,
- 56:13his family every all his loved ones.
- 56:16Obviously it's time. But, you know, Huge impact on
- 56:20Yankees baseball in New York sports.
- 56:21Huge impact on me. I've been listening to John
- 56:25Sterling since I was a little boy.
- 56:27I've been a big fan of his. I got a chance to meet John
- 56:29Sterling at a bar and bat mitzvah I was DJ ING at.
- 56:33It was pretty, pretty cool to get a chance to meet him and
- 56:36have a conversation with him and talk a little Yankee baseball
- 56:40during my break when I was eating dinner.
- 56:42It's, it's really cool to see a guy that really did not only
- 56:45developed his voice, he became the voice of the New York
- 56:48Yankees. And what changed my my thought
- 56:51of sports radio and listening to Yankees and listening to sports
- 56:56was guys like John Sterling. He really developed the thought
- 56:59of what sports should be sounding like and always all the
- 57:02different home run, you know, takes that he had.
- 57:05And even when they weren't going outside of the ballpark, it's
- 57:08going, it's going, it's caught. I mean, he was he was one of
- 57:14those guys that you just love to listen to And, and I'm my my
- 57:17heart goes out to the Sterling family.
- 57:19I know I think one of his nieces just graduated from college and
- 57:24he's just a great, great person and I I wish nothing but the
- 57:26best for his family. Absolutely cherished broadcast
- 57:29career for sure in New York to do it as long as he did for
- 57:31yeah, you can mock all the things.
- 57:32Oh, he missed the home run. It was a it was a fly ball out.
- 57:35But a lot of broadcasters do that when they get older, even
- 57:38the great ones. I saw that happen.
- 57:40Sam Rosen's final year. It happens like I just get old
- 57:42but. Another nice guy, by the way.
- 57:44For to just do it as long as he as he has is incredible for a
- 57:47team like the New York Yankees that's so storied and such a big
- 57:49impact on a lot of a lot of fans both outside of New York and in
- 57:53New York. He's going to be an absolute,
- 57:55absolute broadcast legend. He will definitely be missed.
- 57:59You know, Errol, we talk about this all the time.
- 58:01You know, it's like he's not just an announcer, he's a
- 58:04personality, you know what I mean?
- 58:06Like this is a guy that people felt like they knew because he
- 58:10was such an interesting person. And every will, everything that
- 58:12people said today, Michael Kay, his long time partner from the
- 58:1590s before Michael Kay was on TV by himself, you know, or rather
- 58:19with a booth, both guys. But being the lead guy, he was
- 58:22with John Sterling as his color guy.
- 58:24And they were real. That's the the two guys that I
- 58:27grew up with that I thought were the best at the time.
- 58:29They complemented each other pretty well for some strange
- 58:32reason. But that's when the Yankees
- 58:33started winning in 1990s, with the two of them behind the mics.
- 58:36I will say this, when you, you think of John Sterling, you
- 58:40don't think of him at, at the 1980 Yankees, but he knew a lot
- 58:43about Don Mattingly and Thurman Munson and and Reggie Jackson
- 58:49and, and I, like I said, when I got a chance to talk to him, it
- 58:51wasn't about the 90s Yankees. It was really about the 80s
- 58:54Yankees. If you think about the 80s
- 58:56Yankees, they had more wins than any team in professional
- 58:59baseball and never won a championship in the 80s.
- 59:02Never won a championship in the 80s.
- 59:03Think about that. Then more wins.
- 59:05There was no wild card. There was no nothing.
- 59:07They had more wins than any team in baseball and never won a
- 59:10World Series in the 1980s. So it's an interesting story.
- 59:15Let's talk about the Mets real quick.
- 59:17We mentioned a little bit about the shortstop situation.
- 59:20Yeah, well. I mean, Ronnie, Ronnie Mauricio
- 59:24was supposed to replace, you know, Lindor while Lindor is
- 59:29coming back from this, you know, injury.
- 59:31That's probably going to take a little while.
- 59:33Well, he just broke his thumb and he's going to be out two
- 59:36months. So that's not going to work as a
- 59:39solution. So what are they doing?
- 59:41They're put in Beau Bichette. Smart move, everyone thought.
- 59:44Everyone thought couldn't play the position anymore.
- 59:47I disagree. I'm just saying the statistics
- 59:50say he's well below average at this point in his career as a
- 59:53shortstop. But that's the solution right
- 59:55now. And that's where they're at.
- 59:57He was a -. 12 in defensive run save last year playing
- 1:00:01shortstop. You know, it just seems like
- 1:00:05they're piercing it together and we just hit May.
- 1:00:08Pretty. Wild.
- 1:00:08I'm going to say I wanted to cut you off because I don't care
- 1:00:11what statistics will tell you when it comes to this.
- 1:00:13If you look at his numbers as a hitter, as a shortstop, they're
- 1:00:17much better than him playing third base.
- 1:00:19If he can go back to his natural position and he doesn't have to
- 1:00:21worry about making mistakes, he can go out there and start
- 1:00:24worrying about hitting the ball, which he has done a lack of this
- 1:00:28year. That's what the Mets are trying
- 1:00:30to do. Fish, if you're not
- 1:00:30understanding this, I'll explain it to you.
- 1:00:32You don't move a guy out of position because you decided to
- 1:00:35pay him $42 million and say, hey, you're going to play third
- 1:00:38base. It's not Alex Rodriguez.
- 1:00:40He's not that type of talent to move him back to shortstop.
- 1:00:43For him to get comfortable again playing that position where he
- 1:00:46doesn't have to worry about making a mistake, throwing the
- 1:00:48ball, offset or wherever the hell he's throwing the ball.
- 1:00:51You're putting a guy into his natural position.
- 1:00:53To me, it's going to help him at the plate and he's going to
- 1:00:56start hitting and that's what the Mets need to do.
- 1:00:59They need to get him back to where he's comfortable at.
- 1:01:02So I think this is a great move. I disagree with anybody that's
- 1:01:05trying to look at analytics and statistics.
- 1:01:07You got to look at the the real thought here.
- 1:01:09This makes sense. Yeah, Mauricio was going to be
- 1:01:11the one that got the first shot because he really has been
- 1:01:13positionless in his time with the Mets.
- 1:01:14And I kind of feel bad for him because he's one of those like,
- 1:01:16freak athlete prototypes, but didn't have the traits to make
- 1:01:19it work at the big league level. And he just never really had a
- 1:01:21position once the Mets started pursuing other veteran guys.
- 1:01:24And now he gets a chance and he ends up getting hurt trying to
- 1:01:27dive into first base, which is not ideal.
- 1:01:28You know, you always talk to run through the base.
- 1:01:30And now he's out six to eight weeks.
- 1:01:31He was going to get his chance. And now, unfortunately, they had
- 1:01:33happened in. But, yeah, but that is the
- 1:01:35obvious option here to just try to make it work.
- 1:01:37You're not going to play him at center field.
- 1:01:38He was adequate enough at third base.
- 1:01:40But like you said, Errol, it impacted his offense enough
- 1:01:42where it just make him comfortable.
- 1:01:44And then that's all the yeah. I mean, obviously he's not the
- 1:01:47only problem with the offense, but they need all the hitting in
- 1:01:49the world if they want to have any shot at just trying to look
- 1:01:51like a competent baseball team for once.
- 1:01:54You know, Hugh, if I told you that, you know, someone got this
- 1:01:59year, you're going to play off ball, all right, you're going to
- 1:02:02play off the ball and then, you know, 4 weeks into the season,
- 1:02:07guy gets hurt. Hey, you're going to put your
- 1:02:09hand down again. We're going to go back to you're
- 1:02:11putting your hand down. Go ahead and work your Indies,
- 1:02:13work your technique. I'm sure you'll be just fine in
- 1:02:15one week. We need you on the field.
- 1:02:17And then five weeks later, late season, you know, the the
- 1:02:22starter comes back, Lindor comes back, and you're back playing
- 1:02:26off ball again. How is this going to work?
- 1:02:30It's not going to work. It's pretty insane.
- 1:02:32You talk to somebody who went from AD lineman to a linebacker
- 1:02:35and played corner in the NFL. So I can definitely relate in
- 1:02:39regards to making these timely decisions to reposition natural
- 1:02:44talents into other positions. But yeah, I mean, first I would
- 1:02:47like to shout out that the Mets won, though.
- 1:02:51I know, I know. We are dealing with a lot of
- 1:02:53injuries and a lot of confusion over.
- 1:02:55There they won 203 games and that's another crappy team in
- 1:02:58the Angels. By the way, Michael, by the way.
- 1:03:00We are stacking Wiz by however they come.
- 1:03:03We are stacking. Here we go.
- 1:03:05That's all that matters here. We go by the way, Mitchell, by
- 1:03:09the way, McHale bridges 11 points, just so you know, I was
- 1:03:12right about that there. He is wrote the.
- 1:03:14Barrier I was right for everybody out there.
- 1:03:16I was right. Don't want me. 18 Yeah, keep
- 1:03:18talking about. You're not getting it.
- 1:03:20You don't understand, Betty. You really don't.
- 1:03:22You really don't I? Understand, but sorry you don't
- 1:03:25like. Darryl kept saying 10 1/2. 10
- 1:03:271/2 and. You and you said it, but you
- 1:03:29should be pretty sure. Don't worry dude, you were wrong
- 1:03:32again. You were wrong again.
- 1:03:34You were wrong. Look up or had you look up?
- 1:03:37Dude, I said whatever I I said I predict 18.
- 1:03:41To 10 1/2. Oh I bet he could score 10 and.
- 1:03:431/2 All right, dude, dude, you're not paying attention.
- 1:03:46Score. You're not team, I said.
- 1:03:47I can't bet it. I said if you feel that good,
- 1:03:49let him go to 20 and he said no, he's going to score 18.
- 1:03:53And then when you told him what Vegas said, he now his number is
- 1:03:5610 and a. Half dude, dude, you cannot bet
- 1:03:58that he's going to score 18. When it comes to sports betting,
- 1:04:01you're not getting it here. I said me.
- 1:04:03And you? We're not Vegas.
- 1:04:06Dude, you were wrong. Me and you talking, not Vegas.
- 1:04:10You. Said eighteen.
- 1:04:11You're. Wrong.
- 1:04:11I didn't say what Vegas said. I said you're.
- 1:04:14Wrong. I say you're wrong.
- 1:04:15That's all I'm going to say. I said you're wrong.
- 1:04:18I think Q's more used to just like betting people straight up
- 1:04:22just, I don't care we. Just did it last week.
- 1:04:25Yeah, you did it last week. He'll do it a bit and you're
- 1:04:27doing it tonight and you lost again.
- 1:04:29He. Was going to score 12.
- 1:04:30And he lost again. And he just scored 20.
- 1:04:33That's what I'm trying to tell you.
- 1:04:35Oh God, that's what I'm saying. I asked you a bit of something
- 1:04:37first. I'm not very.
- 1:04:38I'm going to take back. I'm going to tell you what I
- 1:04:40said because you're not listening.
- 1:04:42I said in the beginning I think he's going to score 18 plus.
- 1:04:46But, but, but no, no, no, hold on, hold on.
- 1:04:51No, no, no. Now you're not listening to what
- 1:04:52I said. I asked Speedy, Speedy, do you
- 1:04:54remember? Hold on.
- 1:04:55Could you shut up for a second? For one second?
- 1:04:58Speedy, what did I say after that?
- 1:04:59What did I say? I said what is Vegas?
- 1:05:01You said what did I say? Vegas?
- 1:05:02No matter what. What did I say after that?
- 1:05:04Could. Your people go over 10 1/2. 10
- 1:05:061/2 so I said bet bet over 10 1/2 that's what I said, and
- 1:05:09you'll win money. That's what I told.
- 1:05:10Bet at 10 1/2 and. You're going to win for the
- 1:05:12audience. You're not talking to me.
- 1:05:13You bet me. All right.
- 1:05:15Move on, move on. You're wrong.
- 1:05:17Move on. Wrong.
- 1:05:18Move on. Wrong.
- 1:05:19Let's talk about wrong. Let's do our one annual talk
- 1:05:23about the Brooklyn Nets draft lotteries this weekend.
- 1:05:28And the Nets are going to be positioned with a 14% chance of
- 1:05:32getting the number one overall pick.
- 1:05:35They're tied with the Pacers and Wizards with the best odds.
- 1:05:38Despite having one more win than the Pacers and three more than
- 1:05:42the Wizards, the Jazz and the Kings are at 11.5%.
- 1:05:47Obviously we've seen teams with very low percents get up there,
- 1:05:51but the Nets could be in line for one of these top three elite
- 1:05:55players and we know that there are a couple of guys outside the
- 1:06:00top three that everyone really likes.
- 1:06:02So pretty good draft situation for the Nets.
- 1:06:04They're not getting a top three pick.
- 1:06:07Expect Indiana to be there. I I would expect them expect
- 1:06:11Utah to be there because for some reason Danny Ainge gets
- 1:06:14lucky or the NBA just likes to fall in right onto his
- 1:06:17fingertips. That's where it seems like it's
- 1:06:19going to happen. But if Indiana gets the number
- 1:06:22one pick, I'm just saying Kamboozer's going to them.
- 1:06:26But the Nets are going to get a good player.
- 1:06:28They're going to get a top five, top six player.
- 1:06:31There are a lot of good positions.
- 1:06:32Wilson could be there at 5. The North Carolina offensive
- 1:06:35talent. I think that that could that
- 1:06:38could be very much a good spot for the Nets.
- 1:06:40They're going to get themselves a franchise player they can
- 1:06:42build around. I don't think they're getting a
- 1:06:44top three pick. Unfortunately for all the Net
- 1:06:46fans, they just, I just don't see.
- 1:06:48Yeah, there's a lot of teams that have, we've seen the
- 1:06:50patterns that end up being overdue.
- 1:06:51Now Utah, like you said, I've gotten lucky some other years,
- 1:06:53got unlucky kind of last year and end up getting Bailey at 5,
- 1:06:56which I guess helped out a little compared to what the
- 1:06:58value was. But you've seen that would seem
- 1:07:00that with Sacramento and other teams fall like that, the
- 1:07:03Wizards haven't gotten in a while.
- 1:07:05So maybe there's an option for them to get that high.
- 1:07:08But it's weird to think, Fish, that the 14 percent is the same
- 1:07:11for all three of them. So usually the fluctuation
- 1:07:13doesn't end up going that way. So just the way the weird
- 1:07:15lottery system works where it should be based on some games
- 1:07:18back, not the top 3%. Expect a team that shouldn't be
- 1:07:22there to jump from like 8 or 9 to the top three.
- 1:07:25Congratulations to the Atlanta Hawks are getting the number
- 1:07:27one. Pick they they could.
- 1:07:28They very much could. I wouldn't be surprised.
- 1:07:31Yeah, I, I don't think that much of it.
- 1:07:33I think they're definitely get a, a franchise pair to build
- 1:07:36around. But outside of that, they are in
- 1:07:39a rebuilding phase. There will be no winning in
- 1:07:42Brooklyn no time soon. So, you know, I don't think
- 1:07:45they'll get that top three pick. Like they said, I think it
- 1:07:47they're probably around 5:00 or 6:00 or 7:00.
- 1:07:50I could see them probably throwing it, throwing them in
- 1:07:53there between those numbers. But the top three, it's pretty
- 1:07:56much set and I don't think they're going to give it to
- 1:07:59Brooklyn. All right, let's let's move on
- 1:08:01to the next, which is football and again, not a lot of news.
- 1:08:04We just finished the draft. So there's obviously the
- 1:08:07undrafted free agents were signed.
- 1:08:09We'll see how they do every once in a while.
- 1:08:12Those one of those guys does make it.
- 1:08:14Let's start with the Giants. The Giants added a couple of
- 1:08:17veterans that already kind of made the deal, but it's
- 1:08:20official. Patrick Ricard is the fullback,
- 1:08:23big fullback that was on the Ravens.
- 1:08:25He joins the Giants officially and Shelby Harris was defensive
- 1:08:30tackle, played on that Browns line.
- 1:08:33He's been around the league. He's not a nose tackle.
- 1:08:36He's more of a three technique. So he's going to be in that
- 1:08:39rotation. They still need to find the nose
- 1:08:41tackle. They have not gotten 1 yet.
- 1:08:44Errol a lot of people are talking about DJ readers, a
- 1:08:47couple other guys out there, but the Giants have waited and
- 1:08:51didn't get one in the draft and now they still don't have a big
- 1:08:55guy in the middle. I think the giants are going to
- 1:08:58have to look to next year because there's nobody about no
- 1:09:01obviously they can get with guys off of waivers if a team waves
- 1:09:04them after after pre season and there might be a player out
- 1:09:08there, an older player, veteran player, but Ricard, we knew he
- 1:09:11was going to take a full back position and and they were going
- 1:09:13to bring in another Baltimore Raven.
- 1:09:15They might bring in more Baltimore Ravens if they get
- 1:09:17waved their the full back position is nonexistent anymore.
- 1:09:20Really. I, I, I don't know if that's a
- 1:09:22big deal. It's just leadership.
- 1:09:23That's what the Giants want to bring.
- 1:09:24And Harris, it's a hit or miss with him.
- 1:09:28So I, I think the Giants are in a lot of trouble.
- 1:09:30You need that defensive tackle. You need a a stud defensive
- 1:09:33tackle. Look at what The Jets had to do
- 1:09:35in this year's draft. And, and I don't think The Jets
- 1:09:38are done at the defensive line. I think The Jets are going to
- 1:09:40add some guys off waivers because even though they drafted
- 1:09:43a guy in the fourth round that he's still raw.
- 1:09:45They need to bring in a guy that actually has been there and has
- 1:09:49done it at a high level. And I, I think there'll be
- 1:09:50somebody out there that The Jets like, but maybe a lion if they,
- 1:09:54if somebody gets waves. But I, I honestly think if
- 1:09:58you're a giant fan, you'd have to worry about this position
- 1:10:01because they have nobody to fill in.
- 1:10:02I and they added a guy in the draft that plays the same as
- 1:10:06Abdul Carter. I'm just saying maybe they can
- 1:10:09move him inside as a linebacker because he could do everything
- 1:10:11to help out the running game. But they're going to have to do
- 1:10:13something at that line linebacker position if they're
- 1:10:16going to smother teams and stop them from running the ball.
- 1:10:19Yeah, it's interesting because they're going to rotate a bunch
- 1:10:20of different types of prototypes.
- 1:10:22So you said Fish deep. Shelby Harris played a little
- 1:10:24more 3-4 defensive end with other team.
- 1:10:27I think when he started with Miami and a bunch of other
- 1:10:29teams, he was it was mainly the Broncos he started with was a
- 1:10:31defensive tackle. Then you got trade to Seattle in
- 1:10:33the Russell Wilson deal. So it's just to see how they use
- 1:10:36it. The other thing, the other thing
- 1:10:37that can be an interesting dynamic Fish because they played
- 1:10:39him a defensive tackle sometimes when they had guys hurt, where
- 1:10:43the Giants consider using him like Nikita Whitlock years ago,
- 1:10:46where they put him with a defensive tackle and as a goal
- 1:10:48line running backs type thing. Would they consider doing that
- 1:10:51with Ricard and put it on defense too?
- 1:10:53I want to say something before we go back in.
- 1:10:55I'm sorry to cut you off. Cue this Nick team we didn't see
- 1:10:58all season long. They're kicking the crap out of
- 1:11:02the Philadelphia 76ers right now, torching them.
- 1:11:06It it's pretty incredible what the Knicks are doing right now.
- 1:11:08Really, since game five and game six it's it's been incredible.
- 1:11:13You know, it's it's Mike Brown. Dude unlocked them.
- 1:11:18Shout out to the Knicks, man. They are killing the boys man.
- 1:11:22But yeah, I think that by the. Way, by the way, Michael Bridges
- 1:11:26did it just hit a three, so that makes it 14, all right.
- 1:11:30Just you didn't make the bet. You didn't make the.
- 1:11:33Bet I don't have to make the bat everybody that.
- 1:11:35Was right, I was right. But you didn't make the bad.
- 1:11:39You didn't make the. Bad I'm not making.
- 1:11:41Scared to make? Dude, I'm not taking.
- 1:11:42I don't have to take your money. I already know I'm going to win.
- 1:11:45I already know I'm going to win. Make the bet.
- 1:11:47I know I'm going. To win the bet, now you know you
- 1:11:49talk from higher side. Don't worry, Don't worry.
- 1:11:52It's OK. I'll help you with ball.
- 1:11:54I'll teach you a little bit after the show.
- 1:11:55I'll. Be you're not having a ball at
- 1:11:57all, I'll. Teach you a little bit, I'll
- 1:11:58teach you a little bit about. You never played basketball.
- 1:12:00Yes, I did. Actually.
- 1:12:01Yes, I did. Very.
- 1:12:02I was a very good basketball player, by the way.
- 1:12:04Yes, I was. I was a very good basketball
- 1:12:07player, just so you know. Please stop it.
- 1:12:09You could stop all you want. I played varsity basketball in
- 1:12:119th grade. What are you talking about?
- 1:12:14Yeah. What are you laughing at?
- 1:12:15I. Did it where at that's that's
- 1:12:17the problem What? Do you mean what do you mean?
- 1:12:19TABI went for AI, played for a private school in Brooklyn,
- 1:12:22right next to Lincoln. I played basketball with.
- 1:12:24That's two What? What are you talking about?
- 1:12:27I played against Lincoln. Okay, So what are you talking
- 1:12:31about? Okay, did you go to Lincoln?
- 1:12:33All right, I just gave you I didn't go to Lincoln.
- 1:12:35I went to a school went TAB. I went to a school called TAB.
- 1:12:38All right, just so you know. All right, throw you out there.
- 1:12:41Go ahead, spit down. Yeah, I mean, the Giants is the
- 1:12:45Giants man. They're still trying to rebuild
- 1:12:48and trying to get it right. But, you know, it'll be
- 1:12:50interesting to see, you know, with them adding all these
- 1:12:54different players and and the new coach that Harbard is trying
- 1:12:57to set over there. But for the most part, I don't,
- 1:13:00I don't it's too early to be able to tell what's really going
- 1:13:03on and whether or not these signs signees are going to be
- 1:13:07impactful or not. And they had a crazy draft,
- 1:13:10which they drafted, like Earl say, drafted somebody in the
- 1:13:13same position. So that's going to be
- 1:13:16interesting seeing how he's able to maneuver that and make a a
- 1:13:20great defensive scheme. But those two guys are playing
- 1:13:23the same role. But we'll see.
- 1:13:25All right, let's talk about The Jets real quick.
- 1:13:27Yeah, not a lot of Jets news, just some of these undrafted
- 1:13:31free agents, you know? By the way, Mikhail Bridges has
- 1:13:3517 points now, just so you know, just so you know.
- 1:13:38They may Poland, though, because they might as well bench
- 1:13:41everybody because it's. I'm just saying I he's doing
- 1:13:43everything I said he was going to do.
- 1:13:45Just all. Yep.
- 1:13:46There, you know, Speedy, you're we got a couple of guys.
- 1:13:50I don't know if they're related to anyone in the league, but
- 1:13:53Colin Lacy was a return man from Louisville.
- 1:13:57He's going to be fighting for a spot on the on The Jets.
- 1:13:59That's the guy that may make that roster.
- 1:14:01Those return guys, special teams guys.
- 1:14:04I got a kicker from BYU. I like that, by the way.
- 1:14:06I like it. Which is another guy that I've
- 1:14:09heard of. And then there's some small
- 1:14:12school linebacker, Kendrick Blackshear from Texas, San
- 1:14:16Antonio. So that's really all that's
- 1:14:18happened with The Jets. Nothing really to write home
- 1:14:20about it. We'll get into more football
- 1:14:23news as it comes out. Let's talk hockey.
- 1:14:27The hockey lottery is tomorrow, so the hockey lottery is Tuesday
- 1:14:32night. Let's talk about the draft odds.
- 1:14:34The Rangers come in with the third highest odds to get the
- 1:14:38number one pick at 11.5%, which means 115 combinations out of
- 1:14:43the thousand. That's how they do it.
- 1:14:45Only behind the Blackhawks at 13 1/2 in Canucks, who were God
- 1:14:49awful this year at 18 1/2 percent.
- 1:14:53Devils and Islanders are both outside the top ten with 2 1/2
- 1:14:57and 2% chance to get the top pick.
- 1:14:59But obviously if you don't get the top pick, the Rangers are
- 1:15:02sitting at that third spot. They'll just move back one spot.
- 1:15:05They'll still end up with the top 4-5 or six pick in the
- 1:15:08stroke. Well, just so everybody knows,
- 1:15:10when the Islanders drafted Schaefer, they drafted him.
- 1:15:14They were quoted at 10 and they moved all the way to #1 So to
- 1:15:20say that the Islanders can't move up or the Devils can't move
- 1:15:23up, it can happen in the NHL draft.
- 1:15:25We've seen it. And they do the lottery right in
- 1:15:27front of everybody. It's not like the NBA where you
- 1:15:29don't know what's going on. You're going to see it right in
- 1:15:31front of your face. I love that about what we've
- 1:15:34seen with the NHL. And Gary Bettman has been a
- 1:15:36genius. I think he's the best
- 1:15:37commissioner in professional sports right now.
- 1:15:40As far as the Rangers are concerned, no matter where they
- 1:15:42pick, it's defense. Stop with these offensive
- 1:15:44players. You're going to go with McKenna.
- 1:15:46You're going to go after the kid from Sweden or Switzerland or
- 1:15:48wherever the hell he's from, You're making a mistake.
- 1:15:51You got to go after defensive talent, the kid read.
- 1:15:54And the kid from North Dakota that I like, You go, you go
- 1:15:57after one of those guys. You, no matter where you draft
- 1:16:00one or two, wherever they draft you go defense.
- 1:16:04The Rangers got to be smart here.
- 1:16:05I don't trust Chris Drury. That's why you should fire him.
- 1:16:08But the Rangers are going to get a top four pick no matter what.
- 1:16:12Get that, defenseman. Yeah, it's just all about a
- 1:16:14developmental process which the Rangers have failed that with
- 1:16:16these other top prospects. The Rangers send it to better
- 1:16:18with the second tier prospects a lot more when you look at guys
- 1:16:21like Will Cooley that actually have had a pretty good career
- 1:16:23with the Rangers who wasn't a big name prospect.
- 1:16:25But then you have the Capocockos and Alexei La Ferneir is.
- 1:16:28One of them looks good. Looks good, looks good.
- 1:16:30Hopefully that turns into something that was a lot of
- 1:16:31people thought that was a good late round pick.
- 1:16:33Hopefully that'll turn into and Matthew Robertson is a
- 1:16:35defenseman's look pretty good and early, right.
- 1:16:37They've done well at developing these younger defensemen early
- 1:16:40in their careers, and then it fizzles.
- 1:16:41Outlook at the guy that is playing for the Carolina
- 1:16:44Hurricanes right now. I know you think what think
- 1:16:47about that. This was a first round talent.
- 1:16:50They let him go for practically nothing and he's been one of
- 1:16:54their best defensemen. I know, and that's what I was
- 1:16:55saying. They developed him earlier in
- 1:16:57their career and then they either get them, let them get
- 1:16:59either too loose or they don't develop them properly.
- 1:17:01Obviously the coaching changes may have something to do with
- 1:17:03it, but they let him get into these spirals where it ends up
- 1:17:06happening. And outside of Adam Fox, that's
- 1:17:08really been their process with these younger guys that have
- 1:17:10just been not steady enough. So that's when you have to reach
- 1:17:12for free agency. Now, again, with the draft
- 1:17:15lottery odds, yeah, they definitely could rig it for the
- 1:17:16Rangers. Who?
- 1:17:17Knows do you want me to make a crazy?
- 1:17:18Prediction God. You want me to make a crazy
- 1:17:20prediction? What?
- 1:17:21The New Jersey Devils are going to get into the top ten this
- 1:17:24year? I my prediction is the Devils
- 1:17:26are going to find their way in the top five this year.
- 1:17:29I have. I have this feeling, yeah.
- 1:17:31I was feeling, you know, who has, who has the number of five
- 1:17:33odds that they'll probably rig the lottery for is the Leafs.
- 1:17:36Oh please. Not that it'll do anything for.
- 1:17:39Him. I have another bet.
- 1:17:41I have another thing to throw out.
- 1:17:42You guys don't be surprised if Austin Matthew gets traded to
- 1:17:45the New York Rangers in the offseason.
- 1:17:47Wow. Remember I That's good to me.
- 1:17:49Remember I said that? Let's let's finish this up.
- 1:17:52Let's talk about the Sabres. Sabres the only yacht team
- 1:17:56actually really worth talking about.
- 1:17:57They're in the playoffs. They won their first round
- 1:17:59series, kind of humiliated the the Bruins in the last couple of
- 1:18:03games of that series. Bruins kind of no showed it.
- 1:18:07A lot of older players were very critical of the team afterwards.
- 1:18:11This looks like a team that may be entering a rebuild after all
- 1:18:15this. The Sabres on the other hand,
- 1:18:17you know this is their first series win, playoff series win
- 1:18:20since 2007. I was at that series win.
- 1:18:24It was against the Rangers and the Yamir Yaga.
- 1:18:28That's the one where Chris Jury actually scored a game tying
- 1:18:31goal with like 7 seconds left. Or to go send it to overtime on
- 1:18:36Lungfest in game five. I was at that one.
- 1:18:39It was one of the best hockey games ever seen, except the
- 1:18:41Rangers loss so it sucked at the end.
- 1:18:43The Sabres had four defensemen's, Byram, Dolan, and
- 1:18:48Bowen in power. All had four points in the
- 1:18:51series. Their defense is awesome.
- 1:18:54Tuck and Thompson were awesome in the series and and now they
- 1:18:58get to take on Montreal who upset the Lightning in seven
- 1:19:02games. Errol.
- 1:19:03Here's my prediction for all your fans out there.
- 1:19:05You want to put some bets on this?
- 1:19:06Whoever wins this series is going to the Stanley Cup Finals.
- 1:19:11Whoever wins this series, I love Martin St.
- 1:19:14Louis. I hope, I hope he plays and this
- 1:19:16team plays at a high level. But I think this is the Buffalo
- 1:19:18Sabres year. They're young, they're
- 1:19:20energetic, they're fun. Darlene, they got great
- 1:19:23goaltending. I mean, Tom Tage Thompson is one
- 1:19:26of the best American born hockey players.
- 1:19:29I mean, I love it. I want to see Buffalo win it.
- 1:19:31I want to see Buffalo take home the Stanley Cup.
- 1:19:35I think this is the this is the probably the best series out of
- 1:19:38all the series that are out there.
- 1:19:39I think Disco GO-7. Yeah, there's definitely a lot
- 1:19:41to like when you look at the defensive depth of plate as well
- 1:19:44as Buffaloes did in that game. And obviously the goaltending is
- 1:19:46still rising when it comes to switching off between Lekinen
- 1:19:50and Alex Lyon. Whereas Montreal had a kid in
- 1:19:52Dobis who started for the Czech in the Olympics that played very
- 1:19:55well in the series. Gets Tampa.
- 1:19:56I was always saying that the Tampa Lightning and Montreal
- 1:19:59winner was going to the Cup anyway, I picked Tampa.
- 1:20:01I was wrong. But that was a really good
- 1:20:02series or probably the best quality series overall in the
- 1:20:04first round. But.
- 1:20:05The team, these are two of the youngest teams in the NHL that
- 1:20:07are already really ahead of schedule.
- 1:20:09Buffalo probably has a little more stronger suit with the
- 1:20:10offensive side. Montreal overall, with the depth
- 1:20:13that they have and the experience, but still, it's
- 1:20:15going to be a really good series, very fast-paced as well.
- 1:20:18I don't trust Carolina. I don't trust that goaltending.
- 1:20:20Frederick has played very well, but I don't trust him.
- 1:20:23We've seen him do it in the playoffs.
- 1:20:25He'll show up in a series and completely disappear against
- 1:20:28they're. Not a good for some reason.
- 1:20:29Carolina is also not a good transition team either, but they
- 1:20:32haven't really been tested in that and if they play Flyer,
- 1:20:35have to play one of these two teams that they're going to be
- 1:20:37very tough in transition. The only thing that concerns you
- 1:20:39of Buffalo is the size of the wings a little more compared to
- 1:20:42Montreal who has some bigger wingers.
- 1:20:43So if they they have to try to play physical with some
- 1:20:46undersized guys, did you see? The first series, did you see
- 1:20:49what they did to Boston? I know.
- 1:20:50Did you see the fighting? Did you see how tough they
- 1:20:52played them? I don't think that's going to be
- 1:20:54a problem. I really don't.
- 1:20:56But Montreal had a lot of fighting too, though.
- 1:20:58I'm just saying, I don't think they're worried about that.
- 1:21:02All right, guys, that is the Concrete Jungle carousel.
- 1:21:05It'll spin again, probably in a couple weeks.
- 1:21:08All right, And I want to give a shout out to the Buffalo Bills
- 1:21:11because anybody, if you watch or you listen to any of these
- 1:21:15draft, you know, shows and these podcasts, which I've tuned into
- 1:21:18a couple of them, I wanted to see what they rated the Buffalo
- 1:21:21Bill Bills, which didn't have a first round draft pick.
- 1:21:23They traded out three times. And everybody on our panel
- 1:21:26thought I was nuts saying that I thought Buffalo was good.
- 1:21:30I thought they won the first round.
- 1:21:32Every single one of these podcasts that I've listened to
- 1:21:34gave them an A+ or an A. They thought they hit home runs.
- 1:21:38So and I still think Buffalo needed to add a lot of depth.
- 1:21:42They didn't have a lot of picks. I think Buffalo did very, very
- 1:21:44well. So shout out to the Buffalo
- 1:21:46Bills bean and all the the garbage that we were saying to
- 1:21:49about them and their executives. I think they're they're a smart
- 1:21:52organization. So I I think there were a lot of
- 1:21:54great moves that they made. We'll see how everything falls
- 1:21:56together. All right, Speedy 6 pack of the
- 1:21:59week. Let's have a sensor.
- 1:22:02Hey, who wants to play Print the Beer?
- 1:22:04It's time for the Speedy 6 pack of the Way All.
- 1:22:10Right, we'll start with that aforementioned series that Fish
- 1:22:13was referring to, the Montreal Canadiens winning Game 7 two to
- 1:22:17one over the Tampa Lightning to advance to take on those Buffalo
- 1:22:20Sabres. They won with nine shots on goal
- 1:22:23in Game 7, the lowest in NHL history for a Game 7 winner.
- 1:22:26But enough defense, enough goal sending goal taskiness.
- 1:22:29Here's the here's the thing, Martin St.
- 1:22:31Louis, he's been there, he's done that.
- 1:22:33He's won Stanley Cups before. He understands how to coach
- 1:22:36A-Team. You've seen what he's done over
- 1:22:38the years. The background between, you
- 1:22:40know, what he did with the Rangers playing during the
- 1:22:42playoffs when his, I think his mother died.
- 1:22:44I mean, the stories about Martin.
- 1:22:46Martin St. Louis is legendary and he's the
- 1:22:49coach of the Montreal Canadiens and he's built this team.
- 1:22:52He's been there for the last three years helping this team
- 1:22:55build and figure out what their identity is.
- 1:22:57And they made a couple of moves in the offseason.
- 1:22:59They had a no adoption. They traded away 2 first round
- 1:23:01draft picks. It's helped them extremely well
- 1:23:04and and they've had such an edgy team.
- 1:23:06I think they have so many good young players.
- 1:23:09I I love what I I seen with them.
- 1:23:11But I'm going to tell you this, their goal tending right now is
- 1:23:14one of the best in the playoffs. You can see it.
- 1:23:16Their defense is playing at a high level.
- 1:23:18Buffalo is going to be bumping into a trap.
- 1:23:20We'll see how it works out, but I think both teams have played
- 1:23:22at such a high level. It's been fun to watch.
- 1:23:24Yeah, they have the skill with certain wingers when it comes to
- 1:23:27Slakovsky was a number one overall pick.
- 1:23:29Ivan Demandov has been a nice player.
- 1:23:31The kid Kapanan that was in the Rookie of the year race along
- 1:23:33with Schaefer as a finalist, and they have a good combination
- 1:23:36with the veteran leadership, too.
- 1:23:37This is a team that just went granted a very fluky Cup, but
- 1:23:39what's the Cup four years ago in the shortened season?
- 1:23:41Should have been the Islanders. Yeah, kind of a kind of weird
- 1:23:44one. Yeah, the Islanders lost to
- 1:23:45Tampa that year, and then Montreal, because of the way the
- 1:23:48Canadian division aligned, he got to end up playing all the
- 1:23:50Canadian teams, and then they beat Vegas out of nowhere, who
- 1:23:53was one of the best teams in the league.
- 1:23:54So kind of a weird year, but a lot of those guys, not everyone
- 1:23:56on that team. We've got some experience from
- 1:23:58that. All right, let's move on to the
- 1:23:59other series. The Flyers taking down the
- 1:24:01Penguins in an overtime game-winning goal by Cam York.
- 1:24:04I believe you covered his draft as a defenceman.
- 1:24:07It was the first round pick I believe in 2019, edging out the
- 1:24:09Penguins won nothing in overtime.
- 1:24:11Now they get to take on the Carolina Hurricanes.
- 1:24:12They lost the first Game 2 to nothing.
- 1:24:14And right now it's two to two game #2 and it's in overtime.
- 1:24:18So we'll see if Flyers, the Flyers can win this game.
- 1:24:20They lose this game, the series is over because Carolina is not
- 1:24:24going to give you any bites. And you're in Carolina, You're
- 1:24:27going back to Philadelphia. Yeah.
- 1:24:29I just, I don't trust it. They have to win this game.
- 1:24:32They want to make this a series. They have to win the game.
- 1:24:34If they lose this game, it's over.
- 1:24:36Series is over. I I I think Philadelphia has
- 1:24:39done a lot of great things this year.
- 1:24:40They beat out the Islanders and, and did what they did in the
- 1:24:44first round of the playoffs against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
- 1:24:46And, and looks like Sidney Crosby's could be his last year
- 1:24:48with the Pittsburgh Penguins. We'll see.
- 1:24:50We'll see how it all falls together.
- 1:24:51I've heard also floating rumors of if getting mulku becomes
- 1:24:55available in Montreal could be interested.
- 1:24:56In I heard that too. And I heard Sidney Crosby to
- 1:24:58Edmonton. Crosby, David, together, that'd
- 1:25:01be that'd be something. That's what I heard.
- 1:25:03Yeah. And with the Flyers offense, it
- 1:25:05was something that was a question mark going into this
- 1:25:07postseason with did they have enough depth?
- 1:25:09Did they have enough? The power play was one of the
- 1:25:10worst in the league. And Carolina, you saw what they
- 1:25:12did. The auto won the first round.
- 1:25:13It's going to be a stifling task.
- 1:25:15They're going to have to win this game if they have any shot
- 1:25:17in the series. I agree.
- 1:25:18All right, The Golden Knights taking down the Utah Mammoth,
- 1:25:21they were down 2 to one. They won three games in a row
- 1:25:24and then five to one in the final games.
- 1:25:26Vegas Golden Knights have won at least one round in all all the
- 1:25:28years that they've made the playoffs in their franchise
- 1:25:30history so far. Listen, the Golden Knights are a
- 1:25:33good organization. They know how to build.
- 1:25:35They get Marner in the offseason.
- 1:25:37It seems they have a bag of riches every single offseason.
- 1:25:40And the real weakness with them they're they're just like the
- 1:25:43Edmonton Eulers. You don't know who your goalie
- 1:25:45is. They find a goaltender, they
- 1:25:47sneak one in, they got a third string goaltender that shows up
- 1:25:50and has a great playoff run. I, I just worry about their
- 1:25:55goaltending in, in the series when they move on into the next
- 1:25:57one. I, I just, I don't trust them.
- 1:25:59And I, I think that the Western Conference is loaded, loaded.
- 1:26:04So it's good that they got it. They got out of that mammoth.
- 1:26:08And by the way, shout out to Keller.
- 1:26:09I think he's one of the best young studs right now in the
- 1:26:11NHL. We're going to see this kid
- 1:26:12develop into a super superstar. He's already a star, but I think
- 1:26:16he's going to be one of the best players in the world in the next
- 1:26:19year or two. So but they they still little
- 1:26:22behind the little behind. Yeah, I mean, they made good
- 1:26:24progress this year. Remember, this was not an
- 1:26:26expansion team. This was a relocation from
- 1:26:27Arizona. They took a lot of those
- 1:26:28players. They got made some trades after
- 1:26:30that state aggressive, the deadline, got some depth, had a
- 1:26:32good goal. Young, good young toll too with
- 1:26:34Mr. Jelka. Just not enough with this Vegas
- 1:26:36offense and defense that I've always said is one of the best
- 1:26:38in the league. So Vegas moves on.
- 1:26:40They will take on the Anaheim Ducks, who they won five to two
- 1:26:43in in their final game against the Oilers, should advance in
- 1:26:45the second round along with the Minnesota Wild also winning
- 1:26:48their game five to two. Both of them advanced to the
- 1:26:50second around and that means Caroline is the only team left
- 1:26:53in the conference finals from last year.
- 1:26:55Dallas and Edmonton now knocked out.
- 1:26:56Florida obviously didn't make the playoffs, so.
- 1:26:58Who do you want me to get into? You want me to get into the
- 1:27:00wild? I think the wild could really
- 1:27:02shock the world. I think they're so very good, so
- 1:27:05I can't say anything. I love queen news.
- 1:27:08I think he's eventually going to be a devil.
- 1:27:10He's going to go and play with his brothers.
- 1:27:12Everybody predicts that. But if the Wild wants to keep
- 1:27:15them, they got to keep making this run all the way to the
- 1:27:17finals because they have everything.
- 1:27:19They're loaded. They got great goaltending, they
- 1:27:22got great defense and they got great offense.
- 1:27:25They're loaded. Bill Guerin's built this team
- 1:27:28into an absolute star, stunning team, so they should make a run.
- 1:27:34Now, what else you want? Anaheim was the other.
- 1:27:36One, you know what I think about the Anaheim Ducks.
- 1:27:38I think the Ducks is going to shock the world.
- 1:27:41I think they're going to play at a high level and I expect them
- 1:27:44to play at a high level. I don't know if they're going to
- 1:27:46get out of this round. I still think when I look at
- 1:27:49there's nobody beating the ABS, I just, I can't see it.
- 1:27:53But the Wild Anaheim, you would like to see one of those teams
- 1:27:56beat the AVS, but I don't think it's going to happen.
- 1:27:59But my my prediction is the AVS win the whole thing.
- 1:28:02But if any one of those teams come out of nowhere and beat the
- 1:28:05AVS, I wouldn't complain about it.
- 1:28:08Anaheim's defense definitely showed a lot.
- 1:28:10Their depth was kind of a question mark too, kind of like
- 1:28:12I was saying with with the Sabres, but they held Conor
- 1:28:15McDavid to just one goal in that series.
- 1:28:17And that has to say a lot about their game planning, their
- 1:28:19coaching that obviously we we both the same thing, saying that
- 1:28:22Quembell shouldn't be in the league right now, but he's still
- 1:28:23obviously a very good coach. X's and O's, YS and.
- 1:28:26He's a disgusting, disgusting human being.
- 1:28:28I know, I'm not saying I'm advocating.
- 1:28:30For that I choked on the words because I, you know, as Q would
- 1:28:34know on my teeth are getting in my way, but you know.
- 1:28:36But yeah, as a hockey coach, we definitely had them prepared to
- 1:28:38take on Conor McDavid, take on those Edmonton stars in that
- 1:28:41game. Minnesota's definitely got a
- 1:28:43level of physicality I don't think you saw in previous years.
- 1:28:45And I think with the trade deadline acquisitions, with the
- 1:28:48defensive depth that they have, it definitely could bode well.
- 1:28:51I'm not crazy about John Hines as a coach, but I definitely
- 1:28:53think he coached a lot better than you've seen in previous
- 1:28:55years against the Dallas team. That is still very good.
- 1:28:57All right. Kind of more of a general one.
- 1:28:58A lot of overtime games in round one for my second to last one in
- 1:29:01the NHL. 13 overtimes, fifth most for a single round, and
- 1:29:05every first round matchup had an overtime game.
- 1:29:07I'm not surprised. I, I think all these teams are
- 1:29:09very close together except the ABS.
- 1:29:12I said it, the ABS just ran right through everybody.
- 1:29:15I, I, I think that this might be the most interesting playoff
- 1:29:19run. And if anybody can knock off the
- 1:29:21ABS, it's anybody's hockey game, anybody's hockey series or
- 1:29:25anybody's Stanley Cup. ABS get knocked out.
- 1:29:28It's open for any one of these teams.
- 1:29:30I just, I just don't think there's anybody better enough,
- 1:29:33good enough to beat them in A7 game series.
- 1:29:35I think they're just so good, so well put together.
- 1:29:38Joe Sackett Sakic is a genius. An absolute genius, yeah.
- 1:29:41It's a combination of a lot of top seeds that were younger
- 1:29:43teams and outside of that Central Division, which their
- 1:29:46top three was that much better than I probably pretty much the
- 1:29:48rest of the league besides Carolina and Buffalo.
- 1:29:50Like you're seeing a combination of a lot of good parody.
- 1:29:53Well, I think overall kind of a lower scoring Stanley Cup Final
- 1:29:56Stanley Cup playoffs too than we've seen in years past as
- 1:29:58well. Probably besides that Vegas and
- 1:30:00Utah series race as well. All right, last one, we'll
- 1:30:02finish with the Colorado Avalanche, who won their first
- 1:30:05game against Minnesota 9 to 6. Love it.
- 1:30:07It was a so they were up 3 nothing.
- 1:30:09Then Minnesota took the lead 5 to 4.
- 1:30:11Colorado tied at late 55 in the second period.
- 1:30:13Then Colorado ran away with it in the third, the first fourth
- 1:30:16highest scoring playoff game error.
- 1:30:19First time since the 1985 Edmonton Oilers were defenseman
- 1:30:22collectively combined for 10 points for the Colorado
- 1:30:24Avalanche 12 in that game. Kale Mccarr was the only one
- 1:30:27that scored twice as well of those fifteen goals.
- 1:30:29What makes me sick is Devin Thames is it had one goal in
- 1:30:33three assists. He's an ex Islander.
- 1:30:35The Islander. This guy is an old world
- 1:30:37defenseman. He was great with the Islanders.
- 1:30:40The Islanders let him go. They traded him and he they got
- 1:30:42I think they got a second round draft pick for this guy.
- 1:30:45This guy's been one of the best defenseman in the NHL.
- 1:30:47Yes, they have Shaffer, yes they've Got Talent coming up in
- 1:30:49their in their farm system, but this just makes you sick.
- 1:30:53Plus Brock Nelson. And Brock Nelson, who's playing
- 1:30:55great hockey, which we knew was going to happen, He, he's, he's
- 1:30:58a great player, great leader. I mean I Nekus, whatever his
- 1:31:02name is, nature. Nature.
- 1:31:03One of these days, we'll get it right.
- 1:31:04Yeah, and Nathan McKinnon, who I love very, very much.
- 1:31:07I know Josh was there when he was drafted and interviewed him.
- 1:31:10So this team is loaded out absolutely, completely.
- 1:31:14And they, oh, I'm sorry, they had a country too, at the trade
- 1:31:17deadline, which makes you sick to your stomach, too.
- 1:31:19He had a goal, too. Yes he did.
- 1:31:22Car was the only repeat Goal 8. Shots Eight shots on goal.
- 1:31:25How many plays? He led the team with eight shots
- 1:31:27on a goal. Yeah, pretty effective.
- 1:31:28He had eight. He had only well left shots on
- 1:31:30goal of the Canadians in Game 7. Eight shots.
- 1:31:33Think about this guys. We just talked about the the
- 1:31:36Canadians only having nine shots and they won that game.
- 1:31:39This guy had eight shots by himself.
- 1:31:41Colorado. The same out of goals.
- 1:31:44Makes you sick to your. Story thing I was mentioned this
- 1:31:46with Minnesota with they're having they definitely have the
- 1:31:49offensive potency there. I mentioned the center depth has
- 1:31:51been the better thing for them and they're going to need that
- 1:31:53in this kind of series. Colorado, the one thing that's
- 1:31:55been questioned with them in years past has been the center
- 1:31:57depth. Now having Brock Nelson and
- 1:31:59cadre playing as well as they did, that definitely is going to
- 1:32:01make a difference in the series. You wonder with the goaltending
- 1:32:04who had played so well with Ballstead, if it ends up being
- 1:32:06broken, that'll be the difference in the series.
- 1:32:07Because I think Minnesota skaters could definitely compete
- 1:32:09with them depth wise with Colorado and they have
- 1:32:11experience with them in the in the Central Division as well.
- 1:32:14But if their goaltending is not broken, they could definitely
- 1:32:16compete. In this series, if it ain't
- 1:32:17broke, don't fix it as my mother always told me and my father too
- 1:32:21so it's broke thank you to all the Spotify and apple fans on

- 1:34:07well. She's an agent from several
- 1:34:09different players, the owner of the CEO of BG Sports
- 1:34:12Enterprises, it is Brittany Gilman.

- 1:34:34snowboarder and she's doing such great things.
- 1:34:37And Brittany's been a friend of the show and.
- 1:34:39She does a lot of travelling. And I have a lot of fun with her
- 1:34:41when she comes on the show. I always shoot the crap with her
- 1:34:44And she loves, she loves coming on the show.
- 1:34:46We have a lot of fun on the back end of it.
- 1:34:47So I'm excited to get her on the show.
- 1:34:50I'd like to speak about her business and, and all the things
- 1:34:53that she's doing on the back end of it.
- 1:34:54So thank you, Brittany, and I'm sure you guys will enjoy her.
- 1:34:58She's got a lot of stories and a lot of craziness with us.
- 1:35:01But yeah, anyways, anything set up for next week too?
- 1:35:05Yes, Nathan did get Vince Papale, the former Eagles
- 1:35:09receiver, first undrafted free agent ever.
- 1:35:11Invincible the movie. He's on Monday at 8:20.
- 1:35:15And then Greg Odin and the director, I don't know the
- 1:35:18director's name. I'll ask nothing on that one.
- 1:35:19The first. Pick of the Kevin Durant dress.
- 1:35:22May 14th at 8:20 Greg Odin will be on and like I said, Brittany

- 1:35:35He doesn't have any. So I can help him out.

- 1:35:40that. He doesn't do any push ups
- 1:35:41anymore, but I'll help him there.
- 1:35:43I can do it. And if he needs help with his
- 1:35:45basketball knowledge too, I can help.
- 1:35:46Him there? It's pointy.
- 1:35:47It's over there. There is nothing pointy about my
- 1:35:51my pecs, man. I've actually got pecs.
