- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the Three O Take
- 0:17presented by Chinook Seeder. This is episode 587.
- 0:21I'll be your host, Scott Goran. I'm here with my Co host Nate
- 0:23Reyes. Nate.
- 0:28KCJB How are we getting down to it, boys?
- 0:32Getting down to it. I'd wanted to, I'll be honest
- 0:39with you, I'd wanted to lead off with running through some more
- 0:45Christmas wishes from the listeners, from the followers on
- 0:48social, just to, to continue that thread.
- 0:51But. But.
- 0:52We started talking about baseball cards right before we
- 0:54hopped on, so I kind of just want to like sit in this for a
- 0:57little while and just talk, talk cards.
- 1:02Sure you can do that. Yeah.
- 1:05You said they hear OK, so. I'm just not familiar with it.
- 1:09Just to get a little background, Nate, we're talking, we get on
- 1:14topic of cards and Nate says which I've, I've said this
- 1:21before myself, so I know I, I understand where he's coming
- 1:24from, but he said, you know, I feel like I'd want to get back
- 1:26in a car. So I feel like I could see
- 1:28myself. Doing it I feel like it was also
- 1:29probably too late. It feels like a hobby that I you
- 1:32could be too late to. No, I, I was bringing that up
- 1:36because I was just going to have to break the unfortunate news to
- 1:41you that it is super expensive. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:46It is not what it used to be like when we were kids where you
- 1:49could just go down to Target and get a pack for like. $30.00 I
- 1:53think that that's part of that's, that's a part of the
- 1:56attraction is like if I could just hit a little impulse buy
- 2:01for 5 bucks and like find some kind of lottery ticket in there.
- 2:06But it sounds like they're not even put in those anymore.
- 2:10You got to buy specific boxes that are.
- 2:14You just get you get more of a chance with the with the more
- 2:19expensive boxes like they guarantee a certain.
- 2:21Yeah, I'm, I'm a, I'm a, I'm a Charlie and the Chocolate
- 2:26Factory golden ticket kind of guy, You know what I mean?
- 2:28Like I'm just going to scrounge up a couple quarters, go buy a
- 2:32little pack when I'm when I'm about to leave Target and.
- 2:37Yeah. See what's in there kind of
- 2:39dude, but also I don't I don't know, I it's I it's not
- 2:45something I like you just you just showed me, you know, I'm
- 2:50not going to out you, but like you just showed me a box you got
- 2:52today and I'm like, that's a round of golf and I feel like
- 2:56I'm going to enjoy the round of golf a little bit more.
- 2:58It's hard to say. Yeah, you know, I mean, you
- 3:01could still go and and and get a pack off the at at Walmart or
- 3:05Target or whatever for like 7-8 bucks, 10 bucks or less, you
- 3:10know what I mean? That's.
- 3:10What I'm saying it, it's tripled.
- 3:12It's tripled from back in the day.
- 3:14Yeah, it's not, it's not a couple.
- 3:16Bucks in there, right? Now, if you find a, if you find
- 3:19AI don't know, I think there's like 15 or 16 a lot of times I
- 3:22forget what it really is, but there's you can go if you go to
- 3:28like card shops and everything. They have like all the real
- 3:31sealed resealed products from like the from the 80s and 90s
- 3:36and you can literally pick those up for a buck apiece.
- 3:38There's nothing in them that that era is just so
- 3:41oversaturated that people repack them.
- 3:45But they're fun to open. It's got to be just like the
- 3:49rapid dopamine hits that these guys are chasing where they're
- 3:53just like, it's, it's the journey more than the the
- 4:01destination in a way, you know what I mean?
- 4:03I think if you want to, yeah. If you want to enjoy it, yes.
- 4:07Yeah. Like if you enjoy opening packs.
- 4:10I think it absolutely can. That's probably probably my
- 4:13weigh in on this. I don't know.
- 4:15I think there's still now if you'd go into it thinking this
- 4:18is just an investment and I have to hit big and the rest of the
- 4:22stuff doesn't matter, you're probably going to be let down.
- 4:24I see, I'm trying to find the balance of the tour.
- 4:26To the line. Yeah, like I, I want to enjoy
- 4:29the hobby again and I like just shortly post code COVID, like
- 4:34maybe a year or two after COVID really hit, I, I, I got back
- 4:37into it and I was like, I got to go to target and I was running
- 4:40over to like 6. I was running to like 6 targets
- 4:44in the area. No, no, I wasn't one of those
- 4:46people big time, but I was like, I was trying to get to target as
- 4:51early as I could. I mean, I wasn't waking up at
- 4:53like 4:00 in the morning, but I was like trying to go over there
- 4:55as early as I could. I, I did make a stop before work
- 4:57and I was like, that's crazy. I need to do that.
- 5:00Yeah, yeah. And I was like, this just isn't
- 5:03worth it anymore. But I, I, I'm trying to toe the
- 5:06line of wanting to get back into the hobby.
- 5:08So if somebody can convince me to get back into it, but I'm
- 5:11trying to get back into it for the sake of the hobby, but also
- 5:13be like, I mean, I I wouldn't be upset if I like landed on a on a
- 5:17on a. Maybe we do a little something
- 5:19like when we link up for a trip, maybe that's maybe that's what.
- 5:23We do we. Get like one of those cool boxes
- 5:26that are like can almost kind of guarantee something legit.
- 5:30And then we just, yeah, we just see what we do.
- 5:34And then it's a little content situation, you know?
- 5:38I'll be honest with you, the more you spend, the better
- 5:41chance you have of heartbreak. Yeah, see that because?
- 5:44You go, bro, find the sweet spot, yeah?
- 5:47Yeah, you're looking for that auto and you get, you know.
- 5:50It'd be kind of cool because we do the, we go to the memorabilia
- 5:54shops every time we go do a new city anyway.
- 5:56So like, I think that that'd be a good call.
- 5:59What do you think? You like that idea?
- 6:01It can. I think that's enough to scratch
- 6:03the itch maybe. We strike the balance of like
- 6:05still going to like the top shelf memorabilia shops that we
- 6:09can find like with the stuff that we really like and enjoy.
- 6:12It's got the good quality stuff, but then back countering that
- 6:15with just like, hey, let's just go pick up what Targets best
- 6:18product, Walmart's best product and then just see see what we
- 6:23land on. I don't want to spend like.
- 6:24It's going to be a box like this.
- 6:25Yeah, like I don't want to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars
- 6:28on it, but right, Enough to scratch the edge.
- 6:31Thinking that number. No, but you know, I'm telling
- 6:35you, dude, you once you start that once you once that ball
- 6:37gets rolling, you're like I I got to get.
- 6:39Back you're just feeding and. This is like 30 bucks.
- 6:42There's 56 cards in here, so you've got some packs, you know
- 6:48what I mean? Like.
- 6:49Yeah, you've got that there. There is a sensation of doing it
- 6:52like I, I did that with my, with my little sister's boyfriend at
- 6:56one point. Like they went and dropped like
- 6:59I was like, how do you guys don't have any money spending
- 7:01$250 at a card shop Then then they were like here you can open
- 7:05one. I'm like, I kind of, it's nice.
- 7:07To be here, it takes you back, man.
- 7:09It takes you back. Oh yeah.
- 7:10It's checks. It checks a box for we.
- 7:12Need to stop talking about it because I'm going to just see if
- 7:15I can beat Target before they close tonight when we get off
- 7:18here. Anyway, let's talk.
- 7:20Let's talk ball start current events.
- 7:25The the D backs little active, we'll start there.
- 7:29We'll start with Merrill Kelly, the latest on Cattell Marte, but
- 7:33we'll start with Merrill Kelly bringing him back on a 2 year
- 7:37$40 million deal, bringing him back, emphasizing back he they
- 7:43shipped them off to Texas what at the deadline and now he is
- 7:47back in AZ. Do we like this move?
- 7:52Do we? Do we have concerns about this
- 7:56being their current? Well, where?
- 8:03Gordon Burns isn't anywhere near returning.
- 8:08Yeah, So does he slot in is like their?
- 8:13I don't know, I mean. Still the in the top of the
- 8:15rotation. It's just a matter of when
- 8:17everybody gets healthy, when everybody gets right.
- 8:19Yeah, I mean, he's, I want us. I feel that you deep down in in
- 8:24my gut that he's a little bit of an innings eater.
- 8:28I feel like that's the case. Very similar to a Zach Gallen
- 8:33just going to almost guaranteed 28 to 30 starts a year and and
- 8:41get into that 100 and 6000 and 80 inning range.
- 8:45I feel like that's and you need those guys.
- 8:48I don't know if I would want my rotation being led.
- 8:51By a guy like that. No disrespect, but you need
- 8:56them. Let's see, what are we looking
- 9:00at? So yeah, I was going to, I was
- 9:02going to. I got the numbers here.
- 9:04Came into the league at 30, by the way, in 2019, like, you
- 9:08know, kind of late to the game, but 183 innings and then 21158
- 9:14and 27 starts 200 innings and 33177 2/3 and 30 starts 24 only
- 9:2213 starts and really 22330 seven 23329.
- 9:28These are eras in that 13 start season. 4 O 3.
- 9:32But then right back to let's just talk Arizona for now, 22
- 9:36starts. He made 10 in in Texas, But
- 9:39while he was with Arizona 22 starts in a 322 ERA and and
- 9:44totaled for the season 184 innings innings.
- 9:46Eater sometimes gets a a negative light shine, but you
- 9:52need them that that is value. Oh yeah, 100%.
- 9:58I mean, I, I'd like to see them do a little bit more.
- 10:00I, you just go back a couple years ago and you remember how
- 10:05good they were on the offensive side and you're just like, if,
- 10:08if they can get back to that in a way.
- 10:12I know there's been some names that have changed, obviously,
- 10:15but like it's still, there's still a core that you can
- 10:18believe in. I think there's probably other
- 10:22guys that need to like take those next steps and kind of
- 10:24step into what they should be. But you get a little pitching
- 10:28going. It's strange to me to be like a
- 10:31surprise. I feel like you were gifted
- 10:36Corbin Burns. You know, Corbin Burns is like,
- 10:38hey, I, I like it here, let's figure it out.
- 10:42And it would feel like such a waste.
- 10:45I know he's out on injury and like you can't push all your
- 10:50chips in the middle of the table necessarily while he's out, but
- 10:52like it feels strange to not support him a little bit more
- 10:58and like make that a true strength, especially with some
- 11:04young controllable bats. I was really hoping E rod would
- 11:07have been more than what he's been and I'm I was really hoping
- 11:11that fought would have been a little more than what at least
- 11:13at least what he gave you last year.
- 11:16But yeah, I'm with you. The like the ceiling is maybe
- 11:23higher than some would expect for a team like the
- 11:25Diamondbacks, but they got they to your point, they got to do
- 11:29more to give you a reason to believe that that would actually
- 11:31be achieved and. I just, I think that they're
- 11:35very underrated offensively. Like, I think I would put
- 11:40Perdomo up as one of the most underrated players in baseball
- 11:45and I would say he's easily a top 10 shortstop and does not
- 11:50get the credit for it. And he's going to step into some
- 11:54real good stuff. And, and I know we can get into
- 11:56like Catal Marte because obviously there's some updates
- 11:59lately, but like. Let's get into it.
- 12:01I'm interested to see how that goes.
- 12:04There's rumors around maybe being in on Bregman.
- 12:06You they have other pieces, you know, Jordan Lawler and then
- 12:10who's there other oh, who's that other young infielder?
- 12:17He's got a cool name. I don't remember it, but you
- 12:22know, Alec Thomas had a good year, I think.
- 12:25Didn't he have a good year last year?
- 12:26Kind of came into the scene a little bit more ish, maybe a
- 12:29second-half. Gordon Carroll's a stud,
- 12:31obviously, like Gabby Moreno needs to be what they moved him,
- 12:36You know, they made that move for him.
- 12:41I'm just kind of ready to see them take the next step.
- 12:45I don't know if last year was the norm or if it was, you know,
- 12:49or if two years ago was a fluke. Like I can't figure it out well.
- 12:56Let's let's dive a little deeper in.
- 12:58The Marte thing as it stands right now is owed 102 and a half
- 13:04million over the next six seasons.
- 13:06But as we very well know at this point is certainly being floated
- 13:13around the league tied to a few teams, two of which I think we
- 13:17know for certain being the Red Sox and the Mariners have been
- 13:23directly linked slash interested.
- 13:29I I'm trying to think if there's been anybody else in the last
- 13:33couple days, it's any teams that have surfaced.
- 13:37If there's a team not interested I I think I'd be more surprised.
- 13:41Yeah, but I mean no disrespect what a team like the Pirates can
- 13:46say that they're interested. And it's just as, as we know
- 13:52with a team like and I'm I'm just picking on you, Josh.
- 13:54It's but it it could really be any team like in in the same
- 13:58ballpark, if you will. But it's like you would have, as
- 14:01we've seen just this offseason, like you'd have to overpay in
- 14:06order to draw them to your club. And I just don't know.
- 14:12Well, I mean, that's that's talking more free agents.
- 14:14But in in a, in a situation of a trade, I just think you would
- 14:19need more infrastructure in place to to really, you know,
- 14:29make it worth your while. And I just don't know.
- 14:32I don't know if a lesser tier team would be interested in
- 14:37doing that. So the the two things,
- 14:40obviously, I mean, you speak at the Pirates, they're on his
- 14:43limited no trade list along with the Yankees, the Giants, the
- 14:50A's, the Cardinals. Like yeah, like the Cardinals
- 14:55are, you know, at first you thought it was maybe location
- 14:58based, but I, I don't really understand what that list is.
- 15:02But either way, you would have to, I mean, for a team like the
- 15:06Pirates, you would have to convince Marte that it's worth
- 15:11it, you know what I mean? Because he's got to wave that no
- 15:15trade. So that would be difficult.
- 15:19But the the Diamondbacks are in a different situation because of
- 15:24the 10 and five rights, which I think is like 10 games into the
- 15:28season it with the Diamondbacks, he will reach 10 and five
- 15:31rights. It's a really good point.
- 15:33And then he has full veto ability to every trade.
- 15:38Yeah. So the Diamondbacks are also
- 15:41kind of they're motivated to move him for that reason.
- 15:46Yeah. Because if they do want to move
- 15:48him, it's now like. Second base is is there's.
- 15:56It's not exactly a very deep position across the league and I
- 16:07don't I feel like it's he's out of steals contract wise.
- 16:10I think it's a great number. That's, and I get the how that
- 16:14could bring on more attraction because it's so tradable, but
- 16:17like, I don't know, man, it's just, he's been so good there.
- 16:22And I, I feel like if you have all these other pieces and you
- 16:29can kind of take those next steps.
- 16:31I don't know. It's Diamondbacks are
- 16:33interesting to me. Blaze Alexander was, was the
- 16:36name I was trying to think of. By the way, that is a stud.
- 16:40There's basically like 3. They have 3 short stops that
- 16:44they need to figure out what to do with between Pradomo Blaze
- 16:48and Jordan Lawler. And I think that's why I could
- 16:51tell Marte is somewhat movable if they are in on an Alex
- 16:56Bregman. I know they just reportedly came
- 16:58out as like maybe like the dark horse team or a surprise team.
- 17:01Mr. Dream? Yeah.
- 17:03Kicking the tires on him that would obviously mean, which is
- 17:07what for certain could tell move.
- 17:09That's what Nightingale reported.
- 17:11And then I don't know if you saw, but Carabas, who has the
- 17:15direct connection there, Direct Line to Bregman, confirmed that
- 17:18it was more than that, like it was a step beyond step maybe 2
- 17:23beyond that. So don't be surprised if if we
- 17:27see the Sox miss out on the opportunity to bring him back,
- 17:31which would just be laughable after the the Devers saga.
- 17:36So with that said, if that is in fact the way this thing goes,
- 17:40whether it's to the Diamondbacks or who whoever else, if they if
- 17:43they miss out on the chance to bring him back, look to the Red
- 17:46Sox as a team. And I think this is well within
- 17:49the works already as a team who would be after a guy like Marte
- 17:52because you need you need some, some strength in that infield.
- 17:56And right now you've got a Trevor story, you've got Marcelo
- 18:00Meyer in the mix, who you can't necessarily rely on health wise.
- 18:05And you're needing, you're needing some power.
- 18:09And I mean no disrespect, but it if you're looking to bring in
- 18:13the power via Catelle Marte, you're I know what he's done.
- 18:17But to to point to a second baseman as a solution to your
- 18:23lack of power, the infield, that's a little alarming to me.
- 18:27Again, what he's done has been great.
- 18:28I'm not, I'm not taking anything away from him, but I'd, I would
- 18:30just hope that there'd be because you missed out on you
- 18:33missed out on Schwarber, you know, in a in ADH role, you
- 18:36missed out on Alonso. Yeah.
- 18:38So I don't know what's going to happen, but I would as, as Josh
- 18:43was sort of alluding to, I, I would not be surprised if he's
- 18:46moved sooner rather than later. And you do bring up like the
- 18:49match too, of like the Diamondbacks.
- 18:54The outfield could probably use a little bit of love, right?
- 18:56Like you got an aging Lourdes Gourriel and, you know, Corbin
- 19:02Carroll's Corbin Carroll. But like, they kind of rotate
- 19:04between Jake McCarthy and Alec, Alec Thomas and center like, and
- 19:10with an extra outfielders that the Red Sox have, it does seem
- 19:14like that could be a little bit of something plus some youth.
- 19:18The Sox are great trade partners with a lot of team.
- 19:21Well, I won't say a lot, but a few, a few teams, namely the
- 19:24Diamondbacks, the Royals. For that too.
- 19:28The Mariners with the the pitching that the Red Sox were,
- 19:32I mean, it's a little different now with some of the additions
- 19:36or just shifts in the landscape there that they've seen.
- 19:39But yeah, there there's a few teams out there that would suit
- 19:44very well with the Red Sox, but we shall see where.
- 19:46Do you think Cattell goes not Boston to go?
- 19:50Where does he go? Not Boston.
- 19:52That's all I know. I, I'm, I'm back in my, I'm back
- 19:55in my. How would you describe it?
- 20:01I don't want to say helpless stage, but I'm I'm just, I'm
- 20:06just at a point where I'm. I'm just kind of like, I'll
- 20:09believe it when I see it. Like it we're you you gave us
- 20:12glimpses of with like the crochet trade and then signing
- 20:16Bregman. But how's the Bregman thing
- 20:18working out right now? So it's like I'm going to need
- 20:20something a little more sustainable to believe that, you
- 20:24know, they would actually be able to bring in a guy like
- 20:26Marte. So I'm because of that.
- 20:29I I see him going elsewhere. So maybe, maybe Seattle is a
- 20:32team that's. Back to Seattle.
- 20:34Could get them, yeah, they're linked to them, so we'll see.
- 20:37So I think the biggest thing for for Arizona is pitching.
- 20:40I think that's what they want back, even more so than
- 20:43outfield. Red Sox obviously have that.
- 20:48I don't. I don't know what Seattle has to
- 20:50offer as far as game ready. And and if what if Arizona, you
- 20:56know, kind of gets cold feet on this and just goes out and signs
- 20:59another pitcher, then all of a sudden they don't have to move
- 21:01him. It's a great contract for anyone
- 21:04else. It's a great contract for them
- 21:06still. That's what I'm saying, Like I
- 21:07don't, I don't think I I understand that, you know,
- 21:11incoming 10 five rights, but it's like I would hang on to
- 21:15that man. He's been great.
- 21:16He's obviously a great fit and I don't think they're that far off
- 21:21from contending for a wild card. I'd keep him.
- 21:27Speaking of contract, how do we feel about the Hassan Kim $20
- 21:31million deal to go play in Atlanta for a year?
- 21:36Look, I'm a I'm a Hassan Kim truther, but it's.
- 21:41A lot of money. I mean for a year of Hassan Kim
- 21:46and I'm seeing, I'm seeing all these Braves fans like, oh, we
- 21:49have a real shortstop. It's no, you have you.
- 21:53Welcome to the world of having a a revolving door infielder.
- 21:58We've been dealing with this at second base.
- 22:00As I was just talking about. We like I I, I've, I've seen
- 22:06this story before. You don't have a real shortstop.
- 22:09You just have the next guy up essentially.
- 22:12And I know, I'm, I mean, I know he was there for a little bit
- 22:14last year, but it's like until, unless you make this a long term
- 22:18thing, which apparently Anthropolis was interested in
- 22:23making happen is what I read. Or that there were some, some
- 22:28disagreement, I guess on final numbers that maybe or that
- 22:31ultimately let it to just being a one year deal.
- 22:34But if, if there's an extension in play, then OK, then you've
- 22:38got your, your shortstop. But as of right now, you've just
- 22:41got, you've just got a guy there.
- 22:44I what's strange to me is that I feel like I get the maybe not
- 22:48wanting to over commit, but I, I think 2 years 20 would have got
- 22:54it done. Like I think Hassan Kim would
- 22:57have been like, yeah, sign me up for that.
- 22:59You know what I mean? And then, you know, if it
- 23:02doesn't pan out, it's like release them.
- 23:03Who cares? It's only 10 million now.
- 23:05It's one year 20. That makes you almost kind of
- 23:08force yourself into being like, we got to give him a real shot
- 23:11this this year, the trade for Dubon or that was it a signing
- 23:16for Dubon? I think it's trade.
- 23:20I like the athleticism of Dubon and it's just odd.
- 23:25I don't know. I don't.
- 23:27It's a glaring hole. It's been a glaring hole and
- 23:31they're just not addressing it the way anyone would think.
- 23:35They're making very odd decisions.
- 23:37No disrespect. I think the Walt Weiss higher.
- 23:41I know he's in house, but it's just like that doesn't do
- 23:43anything for me. It doesn't really shake up the
- 23:46way you wanted to shake up. I'm caught in between.
- 23:51I'm on the fence. They have so much talent.
- 23:54Let's just chalk last year up as a fluke.
- 23:56But like, why are we still not addressing the very obvious
- 24:01problems? I don't want to think of them.
- 24:06I like him, I really do. And I know I said that earlier,
- 24:08but I, I really do like him. But it's just if you're, if
- 24:12you're a team like the the Braves, I just feel like you've
- 24:20got to be more aggressive in your pursuit of a position like
- 24:27shortstop and, and identifying and you.
- 24:30I mean, granted, they've I, I'm still of the belief that they've
- 24:34missed their opportunity on this.
- 24:35They've missed the boat multiple times leading up to this point.
- 24:38So it's not like, Oh well, this is a new problem they've they've
- 24:41missed out on on multiple guys. I feel like, but is this just
- 24:46like a kick in the cane down the road kind of thing?
- 24:48Like you're not I, you're the Atlanta Braves.
- 24:51You're not a team that should just be.
- 24:53And this goes for so many more teams than just the Braves.
- 24:56I, I say the same thing about the Red Sox all the time.
- 24:58The Yankees are another team where I'm just like you.
- 25:00You're better than then these one term, these one year deals.
- 25:04Like I, I, I've said before, I, I think one year deals need to
- 25:08be banned. I, there's nothing more that
- 25:10just grinds my gears than one year deals.
- 25:13It's like from the, and I, I understand that it's not super
- 25:17practical to, to implement that, but just like from the
- 25:20perspective of a fan and I understand it's a business, but
- 25:23like nothing is worse than just having a guy sign on for 162
- 25:27games and then he's gone. Like it's just that and and you
- 25:33don't you don't create any opportunity for momentum with a
- 25:40given guy that you bring in. And so a situation, a situation
- 25:43like this, it's like this, this long term marriage that
- 25:47Anthopolis is quoted as saying that he wanted.
- 25:49It's like, if that doesn't pan out, it's like, OK, well,
- 25:51there's there goes house on Kim on to the next one year deal.
- 25:55It's like when does the when does the revolving door stop?
- 25:59I'll say I'm sure it's a money thing.
- 26:02I'm not going to sit here and dive into money.
- 26:07I feel like this says, I feel like this almost puts the nail
- 26:11in the coffin on Boba. Shet it short.
- 26:15Because that to me seems like the most obvious move for the
- 26:18Braves. That seemed to me like, yeah,
- 26:21make that happen somehow. And if you need to make a trade
- 26:24to shed some some some money weight, then that's what you
- 26:28need to do. But like I, Beau Bichette just
- 26:31seemed like a slam dunk here. And maybe there's more to him
- 26:38not being a long term shortstop than what we're even talking
- 26:43about this offseason. To this extent.
- 26:45I think we could probably go deeper into it and assume that
- 26:49it's like a for sure thing now, right?
- 26:51Like well. He came out and said or I maybe
- 26:53not him exactly, but his camp basically came out and said that
- 26:55they're open to moving to 2nd, which is just all, all leverage
- 26:59goes out the window. Like once you reach that point
- 27:02in the in the process, you can kiss shortstop goodbye if you're
- 27:05over shit. But I don't, I don't know.
- 27:09Man rather take the money though, in a way.
- 27:11Yeah. So just for a couple things on
- 27:16money, Hassan Kim was projected by both MLB Trade Rumors and Fan
- 27:20Graphs to make 15,000,000 a year.
- 27:25So those were two years and three years on those on the
- 27:29different sites. And so they're they're not going
- 27:33deep. So that's 30 million and
- 27:3545,000,000. So in order to get him for one
- 27:38year, it's 20 million, Kyle. I will say there's no such thing
- 27:41as a bad one year deal, everyone.
- 27:44Of him is good. No, I know, but I just again,
- 27:47it's selfish but like just going back to the perspective of like
- 27:50a fan or just I don't know just general clubhouse chemistry just
- 27:58the I just general clubhouse chemistry general clubhouse
- 28:01chemistry. It's just like, I don't know, I
- 28:05know you can't bring, you can't outfit your line up with 6789
- 28:10year deals everywhere, but I don't know, I just, I, I hate
- 28:17seeing the reports of a guy signing for one year.
- 28:20Which brings us to Adolis Garcia.
- 28:22Too this early. Think about that.
- 28:24Yeah, plenty of time. He had plenty of time as I'm
- 28:28sure other people were interested.
- 28:30I think that is part of the the Braves though, being aggressive,
- 28:34you know what I mean? Like going out and and getting
- 28:37Iglesias and Suarez and like just doing what they're doing.
- 28:40They just had a really bad year, so I think getting him and and
- 28:45shooting high is being aggressive and I don't know,
- 28:49yeah, if you're not ready to make him part of your core A1
- 28:52year deal, you could do worse. Well, it's not.
- 28:55I know we can move on in a SEC. Is there a a clear cut shortstop
- 29:00hitting free agency next year that like it's a good like, oh,
- 29:04the Braves are maybe kicking the can down the road for this?
- 29:08There are a few things in baseball I hate more than one
- 29:10year Deals and positional platoons.
- 29:14Oh. Yeah, I mean, I, I think it's
- 29:18just it's kind of taken over and and that's the whole fall of the
- 29:21analytics too, you know, 'cause it's, I love utility guys.
- 29:25I love that one guy that you can pretty much put it in any
- 29:28infield position or a fourth outfielder that can play all.
- 29:31No, but that's a utility guy I'm talking about.
- 29:33Saying like this now analytics is like, let's go right, left at
- 29:37every position, as as many positions as we can.
- 29:40And it's like it's, it's exhausting and it's ridiculous.
- 29:44And it wins games. Oh, sorry.
- 29:46No. Just like put, it's so stupid
- 29:50because I like, I get it. Anything that anything that
- 29:53you're going to say to like the analytics and what the data
- 29:55says, it's going to it's going to be met with like, well, yeah.
- 29:59But this system is, is proven to be able to give you the the
- 30:03better, better odds of winning more games.
- 30:05It's like, OK, whatever. But just like as a as a simple
- 30:08minded, just consumer of the game, it's like, can we just go
- 30:14back to having your best nine guys out there and just let them
- 30:17go out and play 150 games a year?
- 30:20And that's that's why I, I can't stand the left on left stuff
- 30:23that we try to avoid. It's like it's it's just
- 30:27annoying. And I think that the further we
- 30:29get down this road, the more those stats are going to do it
- 30:32because it's like, well, yeah, this lefty hitter is only
- 30:35getting so many lefty at bats. Of course the stats are going to
- 30:40be in his favor. And then it's, I don't know,
- 30:41it's just pouring more into the narrative versus because when we
- 30:45do get to post season time, it is your best 9 and it is just
- 30:49we're going to roll these guys out here no matter what.
- 30:50You're not doing the platoon stuff.
- 30:53So it's this give and take of like, do I want to load up wins
- 30:56in the regular season and then completely flip my strategy the
- 30:59postseason or, you know, try to ride it out the way a normal
- 31:03baseball season should be? Post postseason baseball gives
- 31:07you the best form of baseball. And I know that may sound
- 31:10obvious to some, but like all of the things that we love about
- 31:14baseball come out, come to the surface for the postseason.
- 31:17You're sticking your best nine guys in there for all nine
- 31:21innings. You're seeing small ball, you're
- 31:23seeing hit and runs, you're seeing just high IQ baseball
- 31:28play. You're seeing all of it.
- 31:29You're seeing manage proper management of the bullpens.
- 31:33You're you're seeing the whole package.
- 31:34And we're told it's not good enough for 162, Which not the
- 31:38right route to go for 160. It's like if you're trying, if
- 31:41that's the system you're using to win the most important games
- 31:44of the season, why is that philosophy or philosophy is not
- 31:47being applied to the entirety of the season.
- 31:50But I digress. We need to move on to Adolis
- 31:53Garcia. Going back to my Segway from
- 31:55like 30 minutes ago, talking about talking about a one year
- 32:00deal with Hassan Kim, another one year deal and Adolis Garcia,
- 32:04my favorite thing in baseball, one year deals.
- 32:08Ten $10 million with the Phills. This all but kicks old Nicky C
- 32:16to the curb. How do we feel about Adolis?
- 32:24I my take was that this felt like a position.
- 32:29Did we? We talked about this last week
- 32:31with the Phillies, didn't we, about shaking things up and like
- 32:34certain guys could afford to be moved and other guys come in.
- 32:37I don't know. Rinse repeat every other episode
- 32:40it feels like. Yeah, but like with to me, this
- 32:43felt like a position where, I mean, I love me some some Nicky
- 32:47C from time to time, but this just felt like one of those guys
- 32:51that you could afford to part ways with to, to rock the boat,
- 32:56but not rock it to the point of like, OK, this is an
- 32:59unrecognizable team because I I don't think you have to go that
- 33:02far, but some of these guys, you just need to.
- 33:06Months hearing about their their tiff between him and Rob
- 33:09Thompson. Like it's just it.
- 33:10It's staring me right in the face.
- 33:12I think this move all but solidifies it, like you said,
- 33:16and I, I like the potential out of Adolis Garcia more than I, I
- 33:23think we know what Nick Castianos is at this point in
- 33:26his career. I, I don't know how he grades
- 33:29defensively. I do feel like he does pretty, I
- 33:32think the arm is terrible, but he does pretty well with the
- 33:35glove. It seems.
- 33:37I feel like a lot of flashy plays.
- 33:39And then maybe it's one of those like, well, the analytics say
- 33:43that he's like just got terrible range, but.
- 33:46Well, yeah, the flashiness I, I think comes as a result of his
- 33:49inability or or lack of. Agility have range.
- 33:52To make probably, you know, routine plays.
- 33:55That's what it is. I'm sure he's I don't know how
- 33:58fans view him, actually. I was going to say he's a fan
- 34:00favorite, but I don't know. Yeah, this seems like a a no
- 34:05brainer. I I think Adolos Garcia is a
- 34:09superhero in in a baseball uniform, and if he can figure
- 34:13out what to do with the plate, it's like that might be one of
- 34:19the most underrated signings of the offseason.
- 34:23Nick Castianos is famously one of the worst outfielders in
- 34:26baseball. Yeah, no, but I get, I get what
- 34:29he's saying. Catches, Yeah, a lot of like,
- 34:31yeah, but it goes back to his lack of yeah, defensive.
- 34:35Ability it it really, it's not just the arm, it's range, it's
- 34:38reads, it's the whole thing. Yeah, he plays hard.
- 34:42So the sliding catches are something that maybe somebody
- 34:44else just catches on a run. Yeah.
- 34:46And Adolis Garcia is actually like above, well above average
- 34:51defensively so. I think he's, I think he's
- 34:53great. I I like Adoli.
- 34:55Caste lot. I'm surprised there weren't more
- 34:59fishing for him. Shooters.
- 35:01The whole thing didn't make sense, the DFA or not or
- 35:04anything. Cass the on Fender.
- 35:09Cassie Infamous. Infamously said didn't he in the
- 35:13postseason that he was it was after a diving catch and it was
- 35:17he was like, well, yeah, because it's the postseason.
- 35:20That's why I did that. It's like this is the guy that
- 35:23just flips the switch when he when he chooses and that's
- 35:28that's the kind of guy that you're sticking out and and
- 35:30right. Whoever gets him.
- 35:31Yeah, which I'm the. The Lee has.
- 35:34To be aware of that. So I think they're more just
- 35:36looking to see if they can tap into maybe a little bit of
- 35:39what's left and and hope they they hit the lottery with with
- 35:42that, I mean. Maybe he's in.
- 35:47Is it ideal or too ideal if he's packaged with an Alec Baum?
- 35:54Wouldn't hate it. And then they go get Bregman.
- 35:58I mean, that would be that would be a great.
- 36:00A offseason. If I was in Philly, I'd be
- 36:03thrilled with that. Bring back Schwarz.
- 36:07That's a big shake up I can. Easily see that happening.
- 36:10And then you text me immediately after it happens and said I need
- 36:13you to track down that clip of me calling this and then I
- 36:16proceed to make make the clip. It'd be great.
- 36:21It's very rare. I can see it happening.
- 36:26Jorge Polanco Mets and Polanco in agreement on a 2 year, $40
- 36:30million deal. Mets Man, what a weird.
- 36:39What a weird off season this has been.
- 36:41They go get Polanco. Today they announced that they
- 36:45they signed Luke Weaver to a two year, $22 million deal.
- 36:51Go ahead, Nate, the floor is yours.
- 36:53I mean, we can, we can talk about them individually, but it
- 36:56seems as though you have a broader take about just the Mets
- 36:59in general. They just love our our.
- 37:01Leftovers, they just love Yankee leftovers, dude.
- 37:04It's and it's going back a long time.
- 37:08This is nothing new. I mean, you're talking Weaver.
- 37:12Obviously, but you know, just the the moves they've made in
- 37:14general have have raised some some questions about what the
- 37:19vision is. I think there's a lack of
- 37:21vision. I I don't quite know.
- 37:24I mean, I liked Luke Weaver. I think he was one of those guys
- 37:28were like where he was having success and I didn't understand
- 37:32why. And then you're just like, oh,
- 37:35he's got like a pretty confident vibe and he's just kind of cool.
- 37:40That was it. Because like when you look at
- 37:42his stuff, it's like, I don't see how you're not getting
- 37:45crushed. I don't I don't see how you're
- 37:47in Then all the sudden the second-half of last season
- 37:49happens and you're like, oh, there it is.
- 37:52No confidence in the postseason. Gave up very big important home
- 37:56runs. So kind of a rough way to go
- 37:59out. But maybe this is something
- 38:03attractive for the Mets. I don't know if they liked Clay
- 38:05Holmes and then same story with him.
- 38:09Better stuff. By the way, I think Clay Holmes
- 38:12is nasty. Luke Luke Weaver is just newly
- 38:17minted Team USA. Participant, by the way.
- 38:21Yeah, close. Yeah, I don't know.
- 38:24Man, I don't know what they're doing.
- 38:26It's maybe just closer by committee.
- 38:29The Yankees. Tried both of these guys.
- 38:31In the closer role, we'll do the same.
- 38:34I don't know between him and Devin Williams and then Jorge
- 38:37Blanco moving to first base, I don't I they're letting names
- 38:43go. I understand a shake up but like
- 38:47they're letting names go and then like not feeling it with
- 38:52right like I. Understand.
- 38:54I'm so confused I. Understand if you've.
- 38:57Got issue with Pete Alonso and you just you, you realize you,
- 39:01you feel that you've reached the end of that chapter, but to
- 39:05respond with putting Jorge Polanco at first base in place
- 39:10of Alonso. I I don't see the vision.
- 39:17Me neither don't see the vision. Would you rather?
- 39:21Polanco 3rd Vientos first I think.
- 39:25Vientos is probably gone. I think he gets moved is that I
- 39:28mean that could be Beatty. Right, Beatty at 3rd.
- 39:31So they're just moving on from Vientos.
- 39:33I mean, they're, they're obviously trying to get
- 39:35defenses. This is.
- 39:37Just. It's just.
- 39:38Weird man, this is a strange back-to-back off seasons are
- 39:43strange. I got Juan Soto is a duh like
- 39:47great job like that's it. That's a huge contract.
- 39:50It's AI. Don't.
- 39:52I'm not saying. Anything about that but like?
- 39:54Let's turn Clay Holmes into a starter.
- 39:56Like let's not let's ignore starters and go get a closer and
- 39:58make him a starter. Let's let a starter who's as a
- 40:03proven track record to your go and let's go.
- 40:06Or, excuse me, a closer with a proven track record.
- 40:09Go and then let's follow it up with two questionable.
- 40:12Closers who you know. Hopefully one of them pans out.
- 40:15I don't. When did the Frankie Montaz
- 40:17thing? Happened.
- 40:18Was that this past year? Yeah.
- 40:20And then like let's. Brandon Nimmo leads.
- 40:26I wouldn't say leads, but he's in like.
- 40:27A category of a lot of offensive stats as far as leaders go in
- 40:32Mets history, and they ship him out of town.
- 40:36Now there's talks about like, is there was there a rift between
- 40:40Lindor and Nimmo? Is there a rift between?
- 40:44Lindor and. Soto, which I call it by the
- 40:47way, the second Soto sign there that Lindor was no longer the
- 40:51guy and no longer the face of the franchise.
- 40:54And what that would do, it's it's very hodgepodgey.
- 40:58It's. I feel like everyone can.
- 41:02See it except them and they. Think they're the smartest man
- 41:06in the. Room and when we get to the end
- 41:08of next season, you're like I freaking told you this was a
- 41:12mess to begin with. Right now they're looking at a
- 41:16projected. Lineup of Lindor, Simeon, Soto,
- 41:20Polanco, Vientos, McNeil, Alvarez, Beatty and Carson.
- 41:26Binge I I like Jorge Polanco. I like him in the right role.
- 41:34I think he had a good year last year.
- 41:36If you use him and put him in the right lineup, and when I'm
- 41:40saying right lineup, I'm saying he's playing second base and
- 41:43he's hitting in this 678 hole, not four behind a A.
- 41:50Generational hitter. Said it last episode.
- 41:54Soto is going to have 160 walks dude.
- 41:58Because no one. Jorge Blanco is not scaring
- 42:01anybody. There's no protection behind
- 42:03him. Yeah, that's crazy.
- 42:11What else is crazy? No, I'm just kidding.
- 42:14It's not really. Crazy, but we got to talk well.
- 42:19We don't even really have to talk to him, but he's.
- 42:21Next in line, Kenley Jansen. We got there eventually Kenley
- 42:25Jansen signing a one year deal and I'm only including like I in
- 42:29fact, I left, I left off names that signed larger deals in
- 42:36favor of of Kenley just because giving him the respect he's owed
- 42:41for the career he's had. But All in all, not a move that
- 42:45necessarily moves the needle. But did sign a one year deal
- 42:49with the Tigers has a club option option for 2027.
- 42:54I saw today that he. He said he wanted to pitch for
- 43:00at least. Four more years.
- 43:02He's 38, obviously the league's active save leader.
- 43:07He's got 476 saves over 16 years.
- 43:13Two away from tying. Lee Smith, that's Hall of Famer
- 43:16Lee Smith to you for third all time so.
- 43:23What's with pitchers in their late?
- 43:2530s saying like I'm for sure going to want to play for
- 43:28another four years. Like I mean who outside of
- 43:30Verlander? Has has said that.
- 43:34I think Scherzer said it, didn't he?
- 43:36Well, Scherzer's a. Psycho but.
- 43:38Point second Jamie Moyer probably said it.
- 43:41Jamie Moyer said he. Probably said it at 38, said it
- 43:44again at 40. 858 Yeah, let's. Push this thing to 60.
- 43:49Satchel Paige came back. How about that?
- 43:55But yeah, I, I don't know. I mean, it's not AI.
- 43:59Don't. Hate it?
- 44:01But it's just, I think we're still trying to figure out what
- 44:06direction the Tigers are moving this this coming year.
- 44:09Because as we talked, was it last episode we talked about the
- 44:12the scuba reports of him possibly being floated in some
- 44:16trade conversation. It's like what what trajectory
- 44:22are the are the Tigers taking this year?
- 44:23Because I don't know. I don't know that.
- 44:25I mean, granted, not that there's like a huge market for
- 44:29back end relievers slash closers at the moment, but yeah, I don't
- 44:34know. JBI don't know if you got his
- 44:35numbers pulled up but I feel like Kenley had his like figured
- 44:40A. Little bit out.
- 44:42I think there was a weird lull or. 29 to 30 saves last year.
- 44:46Yeah. So like I said, he stopped.
- 44:48Like dominating. With the cutter and then it
- 44:50became like, let's get more forcing fastball in.
- 44:54And then the Vilo came back mixed in with a, you know, an
- 44:59awesome cutter. I think there's been a.
- 45:01Little bit of like a. A pitch mix and then a Vilo ad
- 45:06that's made him a little more underrated lately.
- 45:11It takes a lot to. Change.
- 45:14Your your game like. This was the lowest strikeout
- 45:17per nine he's ever had and but the the ERA was as good as
- 45:22better than it's been since 2021.
- 45:25The innings the most since 22. The the WHIP is the lowest he's
- 45:30had since 2017. So yeah, I mean, definitely
- 45:36figured some things out. Yeah, I.
- 45:39Like it, relievers can. Go a little longer, right?
- 45:44Sure, I mean. Yeah, but I'm.
- 45:46Getting at a time. Sure.
- 45:47But I I guess. And I'm really not trying to
- 45:50sound like a Debbie Downey here with the move.
- 45:52I I'm not I'm I guess I'll just say I'm indifferent about the
- 45:54move. I'm not fired up about it, but I
- 45:56also don't hate it. But it his at at 38.
- 46:00Like him figuring it out at 3738 is a little different than
- 46:05figuring out at 32. And I know I went on that rant
- 46:09last episode about we need to stop treating guys that are on
- 46:13the other side of 30 is if they're 95, but he's got some
- 46:18miles on that arm, man, like he's he's been around the block.
- 46:22So I just wonder like what's what's left there?
- 46:24And and like I said, what, what did I say 2929 to 30 save
- 46:29opportunities last year? So I'm not, I'm not writing them
- 46:32off, but I just wonder what you are going to be.
- 46:36Adding and dropping him in fantasy next year, just like
- 46:40everybody I added. Him once and kept him the
- 46:43duration for the remainder of the season.
- 46:47In fact, I added a role as Chapman from from free agency.
- 46:51Is this that was that? Was the steal.
- 46:54Of of the year. Go ahead and let everyone know
- 46:56you drop though. You did win the league, so I
- 46:58don't know. Yeah, it doesn't really matter.
- 47:00I. Mean, I mean back-to-back, but
- 47:02who's really counting the the guy that I dropped was Nick
- 47:07Kurtz, but I, we don't I need to talk about that because I had
- 47:13I'd handled my business elsewhere around the diamond.
- 47:15So I'm pretty I don't like. Fantasy.
- 47:18I feel like the more blessed I am in real life, the worse my
- 47:21life in fantasy gets. Just getting worse.
- 47:25So what does that say about my life then?
- 47:28You tell me. I I.
- 47:31It's not. I don't.
- 47:32Think it's a I. Think it's a formula that
- 47:34everyone follows. I'm just saying me personally, I
- 47:37don't know. I mates.
- 47:39Mates over here, I suck in fantasy, but I tell you what
- 47:42man, I am blessed. Meanwhile I've I've gone
- 47:44back-to-back over here and I tell you what, my life couldn't
- 47:47be worse. Mold growing in your ceiling.
- 47:49So no longer, Sir. Go ahead.
- 47:52Went ahead and took care of that just like we're going to take
- 47:56care of our next segment, which is one second.
- 48:00Oh, I'm sorry. I'm.
- 48:01Sorry, but Josh is chatty tonight, I'll tell you.
- 48:04That much no disrespects out of respect for Kenley.
- 48:08Jansen, we had to say something about him Respects.
- 48:11No and and I'm now it's my turn. His highest season ERA is still
- 48:18just 371. He never didn't have it figured
- 48:21out. No but like but.
- 48:25Like, look, I, I I when I'm when I say figured out, I mean like
- 48:28look in the aforementioned Aroldis Chapman.
- 48:31Like that's figuring it out, having having almost 30 saves it
- 48:373738. Like that's, you know, that's
- 48:39figuring it out. Like something, something you
- 48:42like you inevitably you're happy, by the way.
- 48:45Sure. But like, you have to change
- 48:47with, with age, like you, you, yeah, it's, it's well
- 48:50documented, especially on the mount.
- 48:51Like you have to adjust the way you attack hitters, approach
- 48:55hitters. And clearly something,
- 48:57something's changed there with, with Jansen.
- 48:59So no disrespect to Jansen. I, I want to make that clear.
- 49:03I'm just saying, you know, I just wonder if he's going to
- 49:09reach that, that four year mark that he's talking about.
- 49:11I I just, I don't know, hit the button?
- 49:17Well now I've I've lost the momentum.
- 49:19For it, but next segment is Murray.
- 49:24'S Question of the week love. It Murray.
- 49:28Wants to know would you rather go back in time 10 minutes or be
- 49:33able to stop time for 10 minutes?
- 49:37Oh, at any point or specifically right.
- 49:40Now I'm interpreting this at any point.
- 49:43Just having the ability to hit the rewind button, go back 1010
- 49:48minutes or stop time for 10 minutes.
- 49:54I'll be honest, I'm going to go ahead and say go back 10 minutes
- 49:58because butterfly effect question.
- 50:00No doubt but my mind when? I think stopping time, I'm
- 50:04super, I'm thinking about it super linearly and I'm just
- 50:07going, I would most likely use that that ability to give myself
- 50:15some extra time to like think through a problem.
- 50:17And I'm like, what am I really going to accomplish in 10
- 50:19minutes, right? Because then if I had the clock
- 50:22exactly. But if I have the ability to
- 50:24just go back, it's like, Oh, I already know what I'm going back
- 50:26for. Let's just go ahead and.
- 50:29And and. Go with, you know, Plan B, plan
- 50:32C instead of the original plan that I went with on XYZ issue.
- 50:37I'll go back in time 10 minutes. And we're in business, yeah.
- 50:41Yeah, I think if you're going back in time.
- 50:44You think about making a mistake or getting an opportunity to do
- 50:48something and just missing you go back in time.
- 50:51You can even if you do the same thing but give it another try.
- 50:56Place a live bet I. Already know the result?
- 51:00Yeah, you know, Oh, I mean, now we're just talking.
- 51:03About and we're just talking about scamming and tired
- 51:06financial ecosystems. But I could.
- 51:09Go back 10 minutes and not interrupt Kyle.
- 51:15It's fine, I won't take it personally.
- 51:17I won't take it personal or I could pause time.
- 51:20And just enjoy another 10 minutes right here.
- 51:23I right. So if you're like the
- 51:25sentimental type, you might actually just say I want to sit
- 51:28in this for a moment. I wish you wish we could know.
- 51:30We're in the good old days before we've actually left them.
- 51:33You know, it's a good point. No, really the only the hey
- 51:37apology or or pseudo apology accepted.
- 51:40No, no, no harm done on the interruption.
- 51:43I was just trying to move us along to get to our final bit
- 51:48here because I know that it's probably going to take a 6 1/2
- 51:50hours and that is JB Josh is in the corner trivia.
- 51:58I have a feeling you're going to.
- 52:00Crush this because you've already started.
- 52:04Yeah, but I and I tried not to say that because I didn't want
- 52:07to. I didn't want to jinx it.
- 52:08But you've already. You stole some of my notes
- 52:11already, so I was going to. Talk Kenley Jansen A.
- 52:14Little bit and talk about how he has 476.
- 52:18You already said that, that he was #3 and you already said
- 52:21Mariano Rivera, Trevor. Hoffman, Lee.
- 52:25Smith All right, here's the here's the first.
- 52:31Part of this, then let's do bonus points.
- 52:33All right, let's do bonus. Points.
- 52:35What's it? Take to get a save.
- 52:37What are the? What are the?
- 52:38What are the qualifications to get an official save?
- 52:42By the way, 1969 became an official save official stat
- 52:48Stat. Thank you.
- 52:49Hey, you're walking. Tying run has.
- 52:51To be on deck. What?
- 52:55OK, so the the. First qualifier is you have to
- 52:57be winning. Right, the second qualifier is.
- 53:03Like the the simple, not the. Not this the the situation of
- 53:07the game, but get to finish the game oh up by three or less.
- 53:12That those are the, those are those other.
- 53:13But like when you finish the game and you have to be winning,
- 53:16right? Those are the two things that
- 53:18are in all scenarios. You have to be winning when you
- 53:21come in and you have to finish the game.
- 53:23You can't get a save unless you finish.
- 53:24OK, then there are three different criterias.
- 53:28If if all things are if those first two things are are are
- 53:32right. What are the three?
- 53:34And you're on the right path there.
- 53:36You you said tying run where on deck or maybe in the?
- 53:39Hole it's on deck it well so one of.
- 53:44Them is tying run in the on deck circle at the plate or on the
- 53:49bases. OK, so.
- 53:51On deck circle. Is that's one of them?
- 53:53What's how? That's why like.
- 53:57If a closer. Comes in and they're up five.
- 53:59That's that doesn't count. Well, that's OK.
- 54:02But yeah, if you if you come in and you're up. 3.
- 54:05If you come in and you're up 3. OK, what are we finish?
- 54:11That one, because there's an end to that one.
- 54:16I don't it's so there's. There's no more.
- 54:19Than three runs, right? No more than three runs, sure.
- 54:22And then there's. One more piece to.
- 54:24That. OK, let me give you a scenario.
- 54:30Let me let me give you a scenario.
- 54:32There's two outs, Nobody's on up three.
- 54:36You bring me in, I get the last out.
- 54:38Do I get a save? No, no.
- 54:41So what's the? Last part of that. 3 outs.
- 54:43You have to pitch at least one inning with A3 run lead.
- 54:47Yeah. But if if I.
- 54:50If I come into the game and the tying run is on deck or up to
- 54:56bat or on the bases, I do get a save for that one out.
- 55:01Oh, OK, yeah. So if it's in the hole.
- 55:04You have to go full. Inning, but there's.
- 55:06One more isn't. It 6.
- 55:09Outs No. It's like an extended. 1.
- 55:13There's an extended one we've seen. 4 outs say as before.
- 55:17Well, I mean, yeah, but it's in. That criteria, I think I'm
- 55:20saying what I'm saying is that like if it is like a four or
- 55:23five, six runs, is it 6? Outs and four runs.
- 55:27No, I. Thought it was 6.
- 55:29Outs. Is it 9 outs?
- 55:32Yes. So it.
- 55:34Is pitch at least three innings and there is no score tied to
- 55:38that one That makes sense if you finish.
- 55:40The game, which is why. It's important that that the
- 55:42stat became official in 69 because there were a lot of
- 55:45relievers that would throw 4 innings.
- 55:48No matter what the lead is, you still get a save for that.
- 55:51You could be up 10 and get a save.
- 55:54It's neat. I like that.
- 55:56OK. So those are.
- 55:57That's the criteria. But either way, like we said,
- 56:01two saves behind the number three guy, which you named Lee
- 56:04Smith. You've already named that.
- 56:07Maybe we do a timer then it doesn't have to take.
- 56:09Let's see how many players you can get in the top.
- 56:12Oh, don't ask me about the top. 10 I don't OK, let's Craig
- 56:15Kimbrel Craig Kimbrel. We'd we'd I feel like Nate, you
- 56:23and I had this conversation. Raleigh point No, listen to what
- 56:26I'm saying. We had this conversation at one
- 56:27point and Dennis Eckersley's name was brought up, but he
- 56:32that's what I was thinking of, not Riley Fingers.
- 56:34Yeah, yeah. Well, if you listen to what?
- 56:36I was saying, man, nobody's listening to me today.
- 56:40The Dennis Eckersley with the stars, I think, threw off his
- 56:47ability to finish top ten, right?
- 56:50No. Is he in the top 10?
- 56:52A. 190. Seven starts?
- 56:55No, that's 197 wins. I'm sorry 361 starts still #9.
- 57:02On the list and saves. So then it must have been.
- 57:04We must have been. Talking like top five or
- 57:06something. Oh, you know what it was?
- 57:08I think it was it, it was. Did Kenley reach a, a, a
- 57:15milestone this year or was it the year before?
- 57:18I think it somebody reached a milestone and I think it's it's
- 57:22when we were having that conversation with his name got
- 57:24brought up. So it must have been, we must
- 57:25have been talking like top five or something.
- 57:27But anyway, OK, so how many did we got?
- 57:30Five. Well, you named the 1st.
- 57:34Really quickly. You named Rivera Hoffman.
- 57:36You've already said Smith. We heard Kimbrel already and
- 57:39we've heard Eckersley already. So we're already 6.
- 57:41And Jansen, if you count Jansen. Jansen. 6 Joe Nathan there's.
- 57:45There's #10 right there. Wow.
- 57:54I feel like Goose Gossage didn't get.
- 57:56Enough. To be tough 10.
- 57:59Not. No, he was 27.
- 58:02Whoa. Eric Gonyea was was a.
- 58:07Peak guy. Yeah, he wasn't in there.
- 58:13I don't think Smoltz closed enough.
- 58:21How many we have 3000? Francisco Rodriguez, K we go.
- 58:27That's number six. Yep, good, good.
- 58:30K Rod Yeah, yeah, 2. More these toughies first, first
- 58:36hint, both lefties, we said accurately.
- 58:41Did we count? That in our counting, yeah.
- 58:44Eckersley's not a. Lefty though.
- 58:46No, no, sorry. I was making sure.
- 58:48We got him because I couldn't remember if you mentioned him in
- 58:50the mix. Yeah, ones in the Hall of Fame.
- 58:521 is not. 422. For one guy, 424 for another.
- 59:05And what numbers are like what rankings?
- 59:07Are these are 7 and 8, seven and eight?
- 59:09Yeah, that tracks. I.
- 59:12Don't. Think haters.
- 59:15Up there yet, is he? No, he is #46.
- 59:21Whoa. Trying to think of lefties,
- 59:25that's like. That's that's your.
- 59:27Closer guess equivalent of Mark Grace just throwing names.
- 59:32Out there, I mean 200. And twenty save 27.
- 59:34Saves and he's still active. I mean 25.
- 59:37Homers for the Arizona. To bring up old.
- 59:41Memories, guy. Relax.
- 59:44Just let. It a memory we just.
- 59:46Had the conversation a week ago, a very long distant memory.
- 59:51Nate, earlier you mentioned. Raleigh.
- 59:53He is number 16. Why do I feel like one of these?
- 1:00:00Guys is a Dodger. I don't know.
- 1:00:06So they're not OK. Cool.
- 1:00:09Well, the the. Dodger was #4?
- 1:00:11Kenley Jansen. That's Red Sox legend Kenley.
- 1:00:16Jansen to you, Yeah. Angel Legend, Atlanta.
- 1:00:22Brave. All time great Kenley Jansen, we
- 1:00:28said. Kimbrell what?
- 1:00:31Boston does employ a. Lot of these guys one.
- 1:00:36One of the two you're trying to. Think of played for them, the
- 1:00:39lefties. Right.
- 1:00:41Yeah, not Papa Bonds. 11 and A and a current Boston Red Sox #12
- 1:00:47How? About that a little.
- 1:00:51Pap getting up there number 11. That's pretty high.
- 1:00:53I'm going to guess that he's. Not going to be. #11 at the end
- 1:00:57of 2026 because of who I mean still the fact that he.
- 1:01:00Even reached that benchmark is impressive.
- 1:01:02I wouldn't have guessed that I. Can't think of anybody.
- 1:01:06We're the. OK.
- 1:01:07You mentioned red. Sox.
- 1:01:08We're either of the two left at one point or another employed by
- 1:01:12the Red Sox. Yeah, that's why I said one of
- 1:01:14them. Oh oh.
- 1:01:15OK, just one. Just one of them, just one.
- 1:01:18OK, the other two, three teams, but you're only.
- 1:01:21Going to remember him from from. Well I only remember him from
- 1:01:241:00 so I assume that's the case.
- 1:01:29Is this? Even a guy that I would know.
- 1:01:31Is OK? Is this the Hall of Famer?
- 1:01:34The Hall of Famer's the one. That did play for the Red Sox.
- 1:01:37Oh, he did play. For the Red Sox, yeah, he did
- 1:01:39play for. Oh, this is embarrassing.
- 1:01:46Why am I drawing a blank right now?
- 1:01:48Not sure recent Hall of Famer. Recent.
- 1:01:52Like recent. Ish.
- 1:01:54Let's. See if I can track down what
- 1:01:59year he went. In that would.
- 1:02:02Help. What are we talking?
- 1:02:03About he went in. He went into the Hall of Fame in
- 1:02:0720. 25 OH. Very recent.
- 1:02:11Hall of Famer. What are you talking about?
- 1:02:16Oh. Yeah, we just made it in.
- 1:02:20Wait, Louis. Tuon.
- 1:02:22No, no he didn't. Go in.
- 1:02:23What am I saying? He also wasn't a closer.
- 1:02:32Also he passed away. What am I even?
- 1:02:33Jeff Kent. That's 26, man.
- 1:02:38Shut up. Also, Josh went straight for the
- 1:02:42year he got inducted, not even taking into account that he's
- 1:02:45not a pitcher. Yeah, right.
- 1:02:49Or left-handed. Or a closer.
- 1:02:53Count it but but he. Did.
- 1:02:55What he did play on the same team as this guy I think.
- 1:02:59Let me check what am I missing? What?
- 1:03:03I think he played. On the same team as this guy.
- 1:03:08I do have to check. Red Sox Hall of Fame.
- 1:03:11Yeah, he did, yeah. Closer dude.
- 1:03:15Jeff Kent. Played on this.
- 1:03:16Team when this guy had 44 saves in one year, Who does?
- 1:03:21Jeff Kent play for He's a Blue Jay.
- 1:03:23Too, wasn't he? Was he in?
- 1:03:27Was. He in Astro at 1.0.
- 1:03:33Maybe in 2003. Bradlidge.
- 1:03:39Oh, that's. 2004 that's 2. 1004 go back one more year.
- 1:03:42I don't. Brandon.
- 1:03:45Bakke no. No.
- 1:03:46And and many more. I mean this this.
- 1:03:49Guy there, there's and many more.
- 1:03:51I'm out. OK, Houston Astros is the.
- 1:03:53Team that you thinking of? Wagner.
- 1:03:56Billy Wagner. Oh my.
- 1:03:57God and the. Last guy, you're thinking of the
- 1:03:59New York Mets and a little older.
- 1:04:01You're going back a little bit further.
- 1:04:02Not much, but a little bit further.
- 1:04:04Doc Gooden was a starter. Another guy who just said I'm.
- 1:04:07Going to pitch for four more years, out lighter.
- 1:04:11No. He pitched from.
- 1:04:13Age 20. Three to age 44.
- 1:04:16Hello. Which is how he got his 400 and.
- 1:04:1924 saves I would think. New York Mets is what you're
- 1:04:27really. Really.
- 1:04:28He played. He played for the Mets for 14
- 1:04:30years. A lefty Met.
- 1:04:33He came up. With Cincinnati, but then moved
- 1:04:39on to the Mets for a very long time, probably.
- 1:04:42Like I said, you're you're not going to remember him from the
- 1:04:45Reds. You're going to remember him
- 1:04:46from the Mets. I don't know, Ball I'm.
- 1:04:49Going to start my Taco Bell order on the app.
- 1:04:52The last one do you? Want me to give it to you?
- 1:04:54No. OK, Come on, Casey.
- 1:04:56It's all up to you. It is.
- 1:04:58It is all up to you. What decade he His first year
- 1:05:04was 84, but his last year was 2005.
- 1:05:09Arthur Rhodes. No, it's my guy.
- 1:05:16Last year was 2005. Yeah, those are the only two
- 1:05:20teams he played for. No, his last.
- 1:05:23And final season was with the Houston Astros, but he only
- 1:05:26pitched 15 innings. Give me all the.
- 1:05:30Teams he played for Cincinnati, New York Mets.
- 1:05:33Houston Astros Oh, so it's just a 3.
- 1:05:35It's just that I. Mean 14 years.

- 1:05:44saves with Cincinnati, but that was 1988.

- 1:05:52No, he came up in 84. Oh my gosh.
- 1:05:55Yeah, this guy, I mean, he pitched to his 40. 4 Like I
- 1:05:58said, this is another one of those I can throw four more
- 1:06:00years. I'm going to.
- 1:06:04I'm going to hate. Myself for missing career 289.
- 1:06:07ERA that. Doesn't help me.
- 1:06:11No, I'm. Just, you know, throwing some.
- 1:06:13Things out there I refuse to keep met history.
- 1:06:16In my brain. Give me more hints.
- 1:06:20More hints. Nationality.
- 1:06:21Give me nationality. He was born in Brooklyn, NY.
- 1:06:27But I'm I'm going. To guess, I don't want to do
- 1:06:32that. This isn't this thing's being
