- 0:24Speaker 1: point three KGRFM good. I had a good day yesterday
- 0:27Speaker 1: away from football. I went down to Tacoma. I hadn't
- 0:29Speaker 1: been to the University of Puget Sound in a long time.
- 0:32Speaker 1: The Upsloggers were hosting Lynnfield the Wildcats in baseball yesterday,
- 0:37Speaker 1: and I got to say it was awesome. I got
- 0:39Speaker 1: to see a pitcher, my favorite guy I've coached. I think,
- 0:44Speaker 1: what a great young man is it, Zach Hampson. I
- 0:47Speaker 1: coached him at the University Prep, the varsity baseball coach there,
- 0:50Speaker 1: and he's now the closer for Lynnfield. But because of
- 0:54Speaker 1: a ton of issues and the fact that injuries and
- 0:58Speaker 1: the fact that Lynnfield got lit up for nine in
- 1:00Speaker 1: the first two innings yesterday, Zach Hampson came in and
- 1:03Speaker 1: pitched five innings. It was his career high and pitching
- 1:06Speaker 1: in college. I felt like I was watching him back
- 1:09Speaker 1: at you Prep, just mowing dudes down for five inning.
- 1:11Speaker 1: It was great. It's really rewarding to see Zach and excelling.
- 1:16Speaker 1: He's a four point zero student down there at Mmonville
- 1:19Speaker 1: at Lynfield. Linfield's going to make the playoffs in the
- 1:22Speaker 1: Northwest Conference. Zach Hampson my guy. He leads the Northwest
- 1:26Speaker 1: Conference in e RA as a closer Chris. He's got
- 1:29Speaker 1: six wins, second most in the league, on top of
- 1:32Speaker 1: five saves and the sub He's the only pitcher in
- 1:35Speaker 1: that conference with sub three r e RA A. Damn.
- 1:38Speaker 1: He's at a bulging disc. He came back from as
- 1:40Speaker 1: a freshman arm issues and he's just mowing. It's really cool.
- 1:44Speaker 2: It was.
- 1:44Speaker 3: He's so takes some credit, like, yeah, a few times,
- 1:47Speaker 3: I you know, give him a little hey man, work
- 1:49Speaker 3: on that and you'll be money.
- 1:50Speaker 1: All I did was give him the ball that was
- 1:52Speaker 1: my job. And then also he's a great first basement
- 1:55Speaker 1: at like four or five hundred four US. Yeah, I
- 1:58Speaker 1: gave him the ball in the state semifinals and achamug
- 2:00Speaker 1: it's a number one team in the state. That's how
- 2:02Speaker 1: much I thought of him as a junior. Wow at
- 2:04Speaker 1: a senior ace, and I gave Zach Hampson the ball
- 2:06Speaker 1: as a junior. Do your thing, Bud. Shout out to
- 2:08Speaker 1: Yoshimen lady who said, yep, coach, that was the right
- 2:11Speaker 1: thing to do my senior ace that year. Anyway, it
- 2:13Speaker 1: was really cool. It's really rewarding. Those of you that
- 2:16Speaker 1: are coaches out there, get this. If you're a youth coach,
- 2:20Speaker 1: high school coach, to see your players you coached go
- 2:22Speaker 1: excel at a higher level, be it club ball or
- 2:27Speaker 1: college or minor leagues, professionally hopefully anyway, it's so rewarding
- 2:33Speaker 1: to see how happy they are on the path there.
- 2:35Speaker 1: And so that was my day yesterday on a beautiful
- 2:37Speaker 1: Sunday in the Puget Sound. It was a great Sunday
- 2:40Speaker 1: and great weekend wherever you were. Remember you can listen
- 2:43Speaker 1: if you missed our draft coverage, you can go the
- 2:44Speaker 1: iHeartRadio app. You can go to nine three three KGr
- 2:47Speaker 1: dot com all for free download the podcast from the
- 2:50Speaker 1: whole weekend. We killed it this weekend. Maybe the best
- 2:54Speaker 1: sound from the entire weekend was Hugh Millan with Julian Neil.
- 2:58Speaker 1: The third round pick, the Seahawks got the cornerback from
- 3:01Speaker 1: Arkansas slash Fresno State. It was great and we'll play
- 3:06Speaker 1: that soon. You talk about brash and bravada, we'll talk
- 3:10Speaker 1: about that common theme to the Seahawks draft picks. It was, Yeah,
- 3:13Speaker 1: they targeted a certain personality and they've won and they
- 3:16Speaker 1: succeeded on that. Yeah. I know people are saying the
- 3:19Speaker 1: Seahawks had national people saying they have a great draft.
- 3:22Speaker 1: And I saw a man Dane Brugler in the Athletic
- 3:25Speaker 1: the Beast writer I think he rated him twenty fifth.
- 3:27Speaker 3: Oh wow, really teams, Wow, that that bodes well.
- 3:32Speaker 4: They won a Super Bowl. What do you need to do?
- 3:33Speaker 1: Really exactly?
- 3:35Speaker 4: What do you expect them to be?
- 3:36Speaker 1: Number one? The grades are ridiculous.
- 3:38Speaker 4: Yeah, that's tough. I would I haven't even walked through
- 3:40Speaker 4: the door yet.
- 3:41Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 3:42Speaker 3: I love how Mike McDonald presents it and talks about
- 3:45Speaker 3: I know he didn't mention like all these are all
- 3:47Speaker 3: guys coming in they haven't touched the field. But I
- 3:50Speaker 3: love his answer and return in terms of Anthony Bradford,
- 3:53Speaker 3: the offensive line, the running bast situation, Like, guys, we're
- 3:56Speaker 3: in April, can we we have five months to prepare.
- 4:00Speaker 3: I think we're gonna be okay. It's so I can
- 4:02Speaker 3: only imagine just in terms of the draft grades, just
- 4:05Speaker 3: going out and just oh, yeah, they didn't do this
- 4:07Speaker 3: so bad grade like I would understand. But at the
- 4:10Speaker 3: same time, I don't know if I could just grade
- 4:12Speaker 3: a team and April based on tape from a guy
- 4:17Speaker 3: that I've watched maybe a couple months of Like that's just.
- 4:21Speaker 4: But it's the off season.
- 4:22Speaker 1: You know what you know what draft grades are, Chris.
- 4:25Speaker 1: It's draft analysts ticked off because the team didn't they
- 4:30Speaker 1: got their Morck drafts wrong and teams didn't pick where
- 4:33Speaker 1: guys that I'm slotted and made him look like, well,
- 4:36Speaker 1: I don't know what I'm doing. Yeah, nobody knows what
- 4:39Speaker 1: the Seahawks draft board is. Nobody except those of the
- 4:42Speaker 1: work for the Seahawks. And if we do know what
- 4:44Speaker 1: the Seahawks draft board is, the guy who let us
- 4:46Speaker 1: know is gonna get fired. So it is simple why
- 4:50Speaker 1: these draft grades are hilarious because it's really a reflection
- 4:54Speaker 1: of the draft analyst's ego. They didn't get their draft
- 4:58Speaker 1: mock draft correct. Yawks picked jerrying Price at thirty two
- 5:02Speaker 1: instead of trading down or instead of picking whomever a
- 5:06Speaker 1: cornerbacker an edge rusher at thirty two. So the Seahawks
- 5:09Speaker 1: grade stinks, so they're draft stinks, And that's really how
- 5:12Speaker 1: simple the what else do you have to go on?
- 5:15Speaker 1: He's not even gotten a jersey yet, he's not even
- 5:18Speaker 1: got in the building, let alone practice or played a game,
- 5:21Speaker 1: and they're given draft grades pretty hish. As a reminder,
- 5:24Speaker 1: the twenty twelve Seahawks.
- 5:26Speaker 3: They got an f from those writing stories anymore, that's
- 5:30Speaker 3: on Ford.
- 5:30Speaker 4: That's crazy.
- 5:31Speaker 1: But it wasn't just one. It was multiple dudes who've
- 5:34Speaker 1: failed the Seahawks in twenty twelve. Remember that draft class,
- 5:37Speaker 1: Bobby Wagner, Russell Wilson, Bruce Irvin, Robert Turbin, Jeremy Lane
- 5:41Speaker 1: j R. Sweeze. I can go on and on guys
- 5:43Speaker 1: who won rings as starters. So forget the draft grades
- 5:47Speaker 1: and how they get a field content and airtime. But
- 5:50Speaker 1: it's ridiculous. I mean, thankfully, thankfully, I don't. I don't
- 5:57Speaker 1: have bosses at the News Tribute. He pressured me to say,
- 5:59Speaker 1: please please give absolute grades and final analysis and summation
- 6:04Speaker 1: of these picks before they've even got in New Jersey.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Yet they do want me to assess them. And I
- 6:08Speaker 1: did that at the News Tribune dot com this morning.
- 6:11Speaker 1: You can go there and see my Pick my Picks
- 6:13Speaker 1: analysis on how the Seahawks fit these guys, the eight
- 6:17Speaker 1: players that they picked, and each one I went through
- 6:20Speaker 1: and how they would fit. I mentioned the wide receiver
- 6:23Speaker 1: Emmanuel Henderson six round pick. You say, wait a minute,
- 6:27Speaker 1: Jackson Smith and Jigba Cooper Cup, Tory Horton's coming back.
- 6:31Speaker 4: What do we got a wide receiver for Jake Bobo?
- 6:35Speaker 1: They resign. Emmanuel Henderson is going to be a special
- 6:39Speaker 1: team's gunner on the punt team. He ran twenty three
- 6:42Speaker 1: miles an hour. John Schneider said it was twenty two
- 6:44Speaker 1: point nine the GPS tracking sat. He ran faster than
- 6:48Speaker 1: you were allowed to drive in a school zone down
- 6:50Speaker 1: the field covering punts for Kansas. That's what he's gonna do.
- 6:54Speaker 1: He'll replace Derick Young. The Gunner. They'd had the last
- 6:56Speaker 1: couple of seasons who signed in free agency with the
- 6:59Speaker 1: Las Vegas Raiders, So that's where he fits and all
- 7:02Speaker 1: that's different fits like that. That's stories at the News
- 7:04Speaker 1: Tribune dot com. But Chris, the swag of this draft
- 7:10Speaker 1: is what really caught my eye and ear first round
- 7:14Speaker 1: picked to Darren Price said, I stayed all my college
- 7:16Speaker 1: years as a backup for Notre Dame for the challenge
- 7:19Speaker 1: of playing behind the best player in college football, Jeremi.
- 7:21Speaker 1: I love the third overall pick with the Cardinals second
- 7:24Speaker 1: round pick Bud Clark, the safety from with cornerback skills
- 7:28Speaker 1: from TCU. Here's what he had to say, invoking a
- 7:32Speaker 1: legend of Seahawks football.
- 7:37Speaker 4: My bad, which one is that Bud Clark gotcha? And
- 7:43Speaker 4: it was hang.
- 7:45Speaker 1: On Ham or not the nail?
- 7:47Speaker 3: Geez Louise. Okay one second, let me get that kill
- 7:52Speaker 3: some mayor Grey.
- 7:54Speaker 1: I love Chris's honesty here. Yeah, Bud Clark. He invoked
- 7:59Speaker 1: Cam Chancellor's name and that's his idol. That's the guy
- 8:04Speaker 1: at Cam Chancellor. A Seahawk legend. He's been on the
- 8:08Speaker 1: Bud Clark had been on the Seaux for five minutes.
- 8:10Speaker 1: And he says Cam Chancellor, and this is what he
- 8:11Speaker 1: said about him.
- 8:12Speaker 5: Oh yeah, Cam Chancellor, of course, because he he's always
- 8:15Speaker 5: about the park and I feel like he was a hammer,
- 8:16Speaker 5: not the nail. And that's what I try to do
- 8:18Speaker 5: all the time.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Out of the place, We're like wow, Okay. Clark and
- 8:23Speaker 1: his fiancee and Nisha Cooper. By the way, they have
- 8:25Speaker 1: a three year old son, Kenzo. He was born in
- 8:27Speaker 1: the middle of his father's career. In the back of
- 8:29Speaker 1: TCU's defense, while he's intercepting four point fifteen passes for
- 8:33Speaker 1: the Horned Frogs of four Seasons, I asked him what
- 8:37Speaker 1: was it's like being a fodder in his twenty early twenties.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Is a full time college student playing big time college football.
- 8:43Speaker 1: He was a two time captain. This is what he
- 8:45Speaker 1: said about being a dad as a sophomore.
- 8:47Speaker 5: Pretty much being patient man, and there's a lot more
- 8:49Speaker 5: to light and I always wanted to go out and
- 8:50Speaker 5: do different things, but I feel like being able to
- 8:52Speaker 5: come out with my family is absolutely the best thing
- 8:54Speaker 5: in the world.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Honestly, it's really cool to hear somebody just leaving college
- 8:58Speaker 1: to say the family and being with the family, being
- 9:01Speaker 1: out with the family. It's the coolest thing in the world. Honestly,
- 9:04Speaker 1: that's cool. As a dad in me. I smiled at that.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Then there was the third pick, Julian Neil. He's got Bravada,
- 9:12Speaker 1: that's for sure. Friday night. These are some of his
- 9:15Speaker 1: first words to us after the Super Bowl Champions draft
- 9:18Speaker 1: him quote, we're going back to back.
- 9:21Speaker 4: He just flap out.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Okay, you haven't even been in the building yet. He is,
- 9:29Speaker 1: because then Hugh Millon found that out first day when
- 9:32Speaker 1: he said this, No.
- 9:33Speaker 5: We're playing man, I'm gonna go punch on somebody. They're
- 9:36Speaker 5: not getting passed me. And if you get passed, I'm
- 9:38Speaker 5: gonna look back for the ball and.
- 9:40Speaker 6: I'm gonna get that.
- 9:41Speaker 5: It's simple. And are you gonna put somebody right the line?
- 9:45Speaker 1: Love it? Now? Are you in off coverage or impressed
- 9:48Speaker 1: in this situation?
- 9:50Speaker 5: I'm in presis.
- 9:51Speaker 2: I'm all up in your face.
- 9:53Speaker 5: I'm gonna get down and dirty with it.
- 9:57Speaker 1: That washes saying, Okay, it's fourth quarter. You need a
- 9:59Speaker 1: stuf to win the game. What are you going to be?
- 10:04Speaker 1: What are you talking about? Zode again, a guy who
- 10:09Speaker 1: hasn't even stopped putting an NFL locker hasn't signed his
- 10:12Speaker 1: first NFL contract. That was Julian Neil, the third round pick.
- 10:16Speaker 1: We told s John Schneider about an hour later, Julian
- 10:19Speaker 1: Neil said, we're going back to back. GM just looked
- 10:23Speaker 1: at and said, Julian said that, and Mike McDonald, the coach, said,
- 10:27Speaker 1: we'll talk to him about messages. He's gonna have a
- 10:29Speaker 1: word or two with his rookie safety. He's a confidence knucker,
- 10:33Speaker 1: is what the GM John Schneider said of Julian Neal.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Then Saturday, they traded one of their slash. They had
- 10:39Speaker 1: a stash of twelve picks for next year's draft, which
- 10:41Speaker 1: is a stronger draft, and they traded one of them
- 10:44Speaker 1: because they couldn't believe that Iowa All American guard Bo
- 10:47Speaker 1: Stevens was still available in round five and after the
- 10:49Speaker 1: Seahawks drafted him Saturday morning, Stephens said this about his
- 10:53Speaker 1: definition of who he is as a player, breaking.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Opponent's will to play. Doesn't want to stay in his gap.
- 11:00Speaker 2: The linebackers have to make a play. It's making it
- 11:02Speaker 2: to the guy that wants to put his eyes down
- 11:04Speaker 2: and not really care about where the ball is at.
- 11:06Speaker 2: And it's just I don't want to get killed by
- 11:08Speaker 2: this person across from me.
- 11:11Speaker 1: That sounds like that sounds like John Benton's kind of
- 11:14Speaker 1: offensive lineman. I'm gonna make the guy feel like, oh,
- 11:17Speaker 1: I want to get killed by you.
- 11:19Speaker 4: It reminds me of Gray's Abel in the Super Bowl.
- 11:22Speaker 3: I think they had a micd up on him and
- 11:24Speaker 3: he looked across at the d line for the page
- 11:25Speaker 3: ands like, I'm ready to die. Excuse me, You're ready
- 11:29Speaker 3: to what You're ready to die? And I think the
- 11:32Speaker 3: defensive player on the side was like, yeah, me too.
- 11:34Speaker 4: And I was like, Jesus, man, this is okay. So
- 11:37Speaker 4: Mike mcdonan type of guy.
- 11:38Speaker 3: And then you got another guy and both Stevens just like, yeah,
- 11:40Speaker 3: I'm willing to just I don't want you even looking
- 11:42Speaker 3: at me anymore.
- 11:43Speaker 4: Just be afraid of the pain I'm about to endure
- 11:45Speaker 4: on you. For the next four quarters.
- 11:47Speaker 1: We'll talk about Stevens, and we left right guard on
- 11:50Speaker 1: that whole issue. Stevens overcame a mental health challenge and
- 11:54Speaker 1: intention deficit disorder with the help of a sports psychologist
- 11:57Speaker 1: while he was at I A seventh round pick, Devin
- 12:00Speaker 1: Eastern a big nose tackle from the University of Minnesota.
- 12:03Speaker 1: He's talked openly while he was playing for the Gophers
- 12:06Speaker 1: about his emotional behavior disorders. He credits the single mother
- 12:09Speaker 1: who raised him, Tammy Berger, for being the reason he
- 12:11Speaker 1: conquered that. Again, everyone has a path, Everyone has a
- 12:15Speaker 1: story on how they got here and who they credit
- 12:17Speaker 1: for it. Go all the way to the last third
- 12:20Speaker 1: to last pick of the draft, Chris two hundred and
- 12:22Speaker 1: fifty fifth, Like three point thirty five on Saturday afternoon,
- 12:25Speaker 1: when everybody's out on the boats on Lake Washington and
- 12:27Speaker 1: you and I are still coal mining out there at
- 12:30Speaker 1: Seahawks headquarters. The Seahawks chose out Arizona quarterback Michael Dansby
- 12:35Speaker 1: with the two hundred and fifty fifth of two hundred
- 12:38Speaker 1: and fifty seven picks in this entire draft. Dansby told
- 12:41Speaker 1: us that he ran a four two five forty in
- 12:44Speaker 1: his pre draft training, and we all looked at each other, like,
- 12:47Speaker 1: the third to last pick of the draft in the
- 12:49Speaker 1: seventh round ran a four to two five Really with
- 12:53Speaker 1: does dad stop watch timing him on that?
- 12:56Speaker 2: Uh?
- 12:57Speaker 1: Yeah, okay? And then we told John Schneider about that
- 13:00Speaker 1: about an hour later, and the GM said, yeah, he's
- 13:01Speaker 1: a cornerback. What he's going to tell you that he's
- 13:04Speaker 1: swaggy is what he's the GM said, And that's the
- 13:07Speaker 1: essence of this Seahawks draft gost swag. We talked about
- 13:10Speaker 1: it last week, Chris. The number one discriminator into this
- 13:14Speaker 1: draft wasn't forty times. It wasn't their game film, It
- 13:18Speaker 1: wasn't how many positions they played. It was can they
- 13:21Speaker 1: come into this locker room of super Bowl champions and
- 13:23Speaker 1: not be in awe? Because that's what got snuck up
- 13:26Speaker 1: on the Seahawks post legion of boom, post back to
- 13:28Speaker 1: back super Bowls a decade ago. They brought in dudes
- 13:31Speaker 1: who were just in awe of Richard Sherman and Cam
- 13:33Speaker 1: Chancellor and Earl Thomas, and they wanted to find dogs competitors.
- 13:40Speaker 1: In fact, they had a competitor scale. We're going to
- 13:42Speaker 1: talk about that during the show. They have a competitors
- 13:46Speaker 1: scale to make up their Seahawks draft poark. If you
- 13:49Speaker 1: don't have high marks on the quote competitive scale, And
- 13:52Speaker 1: John Schneider told me, Greg, I could talk to you
- 13:53Speaker 1: for hours about this, the components of the competitor scale.
- 13:57Speaker 1: If you don't have a high score on the competitor scale.
- 13:59Speaker 1: You're not on the sea draft board. It doesn't matter
- 14:01Speaker 1: how good of a player you are. You needed to
- 14:03Speaker 1: show in your personality and you're off the field and
- 14:07Speaker 1: your work ethic and your attitude that you were a dog.
- 14:10Speaker 1: And when Julianils is we're going back to back, when
- 14:13Speaker 1: Bud Clark says, I'm camp chanceller hammer, not the nail,
- 14:17Speaker 1: that's what they're talking about. Dudes who are coming in saying, yeah,
- 14:20Speaker 1: this is me, Come come get some of this. And
- 14:23Speaker 1: that's what they drafted on this year. So when you
- 14:24Speaker 1: look at why did they get this, hie, why did
- 14:26Speaker 1: they do That's why the competitor scale four nine four
- 14:30Speaker 1: five one. That the coming out TEXTI will read it
- 14:32Speaker 1: back at eleven thirty year opinion of the Seahawks draft.
- 14:35Speaker 1: You like it, love it, hate it? Keep it in mind?
- 14:39Speaker 1: Is a Super Bowl champion roster with twenty one of
- 14:41Speaker 1: twenty two starters coming back? What about the trade of
- 14:44Speaker 1: one of their draft picks from next year a better
- 14:46Speaker 1: stronger draft to get Iowa's Bo Stevens the All American
- 14:50Speaker 1: Guard four nine, four to five one. Your opinion of
- 14:53Speaker 1: the Seahawks draft. What you liked about it? Most what
- 14:55Speaker 1: you hated about it most with this worries you? What
- 14:59Speaker 1: excite you? We'll read that back at eleven thirty Up next,
- 15:02Speaker 1: I'll talk about this competitor scale I'm right about for
- 15:06Speaker 1: the Distry Young. We'll write about it in the story
- 15:08Speaker 1: just going to publish tomorrow. It is uh Junique. It's
- 15:11Speaker 1: interesting and it is what the Seahawks draft was all
- 15:14Speaker 1: about this year. At eleven o'clock, we're going to talk
- 15:16Speaker 1: to the TCU cornerbacks coach who coached the Seahawks second
- 15:19Speaker 1: draft pick, second round pick, Bud Clark. All. That's coming
- 15:22Speaker 1: up on ninety three point three KJRFN. This report is

- 15:33Speaker 6: the West Valley Highway.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Two lanes are blocked in that back up to.
- 15:36Speaker 4: T U I nineteen. Do the math.
- 15:38Speaker 6: That's less than twenty five bucks a round. It's fantastic news.
- 15:41Speaker 6: But here's the catch. There are only a few left,
- 15:43Speaker 6: and when they're gone.
- 15:44Speaker 4: They're gone.

- 16:03Speaker 7: home for the Huskies, Krackett and the twelfth Man Sports
- 16:06Speaker 7: Radio ninety three point three kjr FM.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Welcome back the Greg Bell Show with Christopher Kidd. On
- 16:15Speaker 1: a Monday post NFL Draft eleven o'clock, We're going to
- 16:20Speaker 1: talk to the TCU cornerbacks coach Juice Brown for Washington
- 16:25Speaker 1: Husky's assistant. He was the position coach for the Seahawks
- 16:28Speaker 1: second round pick Bud Clark eleven thirty where we back
- 16:31Speaker 1: to text four nine, four to five, and we're also
- 16:33Speaker 1: going to tell you about the Seahawks reported undrafted free
- 16:35Speaker 1: agent signings. They have spots for I think it's eight
- 16:39Speaker 1: now because of the trades back and ads, they got
- 16:42Speaker 1: ended up with eight draft picks when they were scheduled
- 16:44Speaker 1: to have four thanks to John Schneider's trade backs. And
- 16:47Speaker 1: we'll talk about who the undrafted free agents in a
- 16:50Speaker 1: corner of college former college football quarterback, who's going to
- 16:54Speaker 1: be invited? I confirmed right into the rookie Minicamp this weekend,
- 17:00Speaker 1: eleven forty five in fornassl join us before his show
- 17:03Speaker 1: druns from twelve until three, we talked about last segment,
- 17:06Speaker 1: this competitor scale. Going into the draft, the Seahawks, John Schneider,
- 17:12Speaker 1: Mike McDonald, their number one task was to find guys
- 17:14Speaker 1: who were not in awe of the Super Bowl champions
- 17:17Speaker 1: in the locker room and on the field. Snyder has
- 17:20Speaker 1: said repeatedly that after the legion of boom back to
- 17:23Speaker 1: back Super Bowl years of twenty thirteen and fourteen seasons,
- 17:26Speaker 1: that he brought in and drafted guys who were in
- 17:28Speaker 1: awe who just were deferring. I'm bowing down almost to
- 17:33Speaker 1: Richard Sherman and Camp chance On, Earl Thomas and Michael
- 17:35Speaker 1: Bennett and Cliffe were and these strong personalities that went
- 17:38Speaker 1: to those back to back Super Bowls. Rookies they drafted
- 17:41Speaker 1: came in and just wouldn't compete, and the practices weren't
- 17:45Speaker 1: the same no matter how much Pete Carroll's always compete
- 17:48Speaker 1: signs were all over the building and they were tapping him.
- 17:50Speaker 1: John Schneider recognized that he would drafting players who just
- 17:54Speaker 1: worked for lack of better. They were in awe of
- 17:58Speaker 1: the Seahawks locker room and the players. So he sought
- 18:01Speaker 1: this year to avoid that and to get dudes through
- 18:04Speaker 1: the open. And we just played the last segment, all
- 18:06Speaker 1: the clips in the examples of the bravado that these
- 18:09Speaker 1: guys have, the eight draft picks they have, I mean
- 18:12Speaker 1: the third to last guy saying he ran a four
- 18:13Speaker 1: to five and the third round picks in that we're
- 18:17Speaker 1: going to go back to back. Before you even got
- 18:19Speaker 1: in the building, that was Julian neil.
- 18:22Speaker 4: Well.
- 18:22Speaker 1: I asked John Schneider about this. I said, Okay, you
- 18:24Speaker 1: had this goal to get the competitors, the dogs, to
- 18:28Speaker 1: not be in awe of these Super Bowl champions. How
- 18:30Speaker 1: do you think you succeeded in that? And in doing so,
- 18:33Speaker 1: the GM started to talk to me about a competitor
- 18:36Speaker 1: scale that they used to make their pick. David did
- 18:39Speaker 1: their draft board this year based on a competitor scale,
- 18:42Speaker 1: a rating that they came in in house, an organic
- 18:45Speaker 1: rating of intangibles, something to mel Kiper and Daniel Jeremiah
- 18:51Speaker 1: and Dane berglet None of those guys can do. They
- 18:54Speaker 1: are looking at a game film and judging a competitor scale.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Because the Seahawks scouts went into dorm rooms and guidance
- 19:01Speaker 1: counselor's offices and assistant coaches offices to find out what
- 19:05Speaker 1: these guys really were like off the field. This is
- 19:07Speaker 1: what John Schneider had to say after I was asking
- 19:09Speaker 1: about all this. Your guys are cool. You've getting young
- 19:13Speaker 1: players who aren't in AWE Superbowl champions Where do you
- 19:16Speaker 1: think people pleasure up thisstrict?
- 19:18Speaker 5: Now?
- 19:19Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean they wouldn't have been underboard. Really, they
- 19:21Speaker 8: weren't gonna be underboard if we felt that way. And
- 19:24Speaker 8: I say that like this get like like that our
- 19:27Speaker 8: scouts felt that way.
- 19:28Speaker 1: You know, how did that show up with scouting? How?
- 19:31Speaker 2: Because I.
- 19:33Speaker 8: Guess sometimes these guys study these guys forever, so it's
- 19:37Speaker 8: like a we have a competitor scale, and like how
- 19:40Speaker 8: they fit in a competitor scale, and what's their self efficacy?
- 19:44Speaker 8: And like how are they gonna handle competition?
- 19:50Speaker 1: Self efficacy? Chris? How many general manager and coaches are
- 19:54Speaker 1: worried about self efficacy. That's the individual's belief if they
- 20:01Speaker 1: execute behaviors that's necessary they will get specific performance outcomes
- 20:05Speaker 1: from them. That's the scientific definition of what self efficacy is.
- 20:11Speaker 1: It's bravado. It's believing in yourself and that you're better
- 20:14Speaker 1: than the people you're gonna come in and compete with.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Even super Bowl champions in the locker room, they were measured,
- 20:20Speaker 1: they were projecting on this competitor scale. I find this
- 20:24Speaker 1: fascinating because nobody talks about competitors scale and self efficacy
- 20:28Speaker 1: when they're doing draft picks. They're talking about forty times
- 20:31Speaker 1: and how many games he started and how many interceptions,
- 20:35Speaker 1: and not self efficacy and the competitor scale. And that's
- 20:38Speaker 1: what John shy. So when you wonder why the Seahawks
- 20:42Speaker 1: zag when everyone thinks they're gonna zig, it's stuff like this.
- 20:45Speaker 1: It's that their draft board is different, and you cannot
- 20:49Speaker 1: argue with the results. Two super Bowl championships with two
- 20:52Speaker 1: different coaching staffs and two different regimes. Yes, he's had
- 20:54Speaker 1: down years of drafting. Everyone does, and the law of
- 20:57Speaker 1: averages that work out here, and I'm starting to sound
- 20:59Speaker 1: like a cheerleader for Jocher, But let's give the guys due.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Two different regimes, two different Super Bowl championships, seventeen drafts.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Now in North American sports, being in a role that
- 21:11Speaker 1: role for seventeen years and itself is rare, but it's
- 21:14Speaker 1: things like this, and when he has a scouting department,
- 21:18Speaker 1: scouts and personnel guys as consistent in the program as
- 21:24Speaker 1: John Schneider staff. And now he's lost Dan Morgan and
- 21:26Speaker 1: some others who have got Morgan's case the general manager
- 21:30Speaker 1: job of the Panthers, But by and large, his nucleus
- 21:33Speaker 1: of scouts and area of scouts and pro personnel guys
- 21:37Speaker 1: have stayed the same for most of those seventeen years.
- 21:40Speaker 1: When you have that continuity and clarity of mission, this
- 21:44Speaker 1: is what you get. Competition's a competitors scale to judge
- 21:48Speaker 1: these players by. And that's the reason why Bud Clark's
- 21:52Speaker 1: the Seahawk and Julian Neils the Seahawk. I mean, heck,
- 21:55Speaker 1: that's why Andre Fuller, the seventh round pick from Toledo,
- 22:00Speaker 1: talking about his competitiveness and how much confidence he has
- 22:03Speaker 1: in himself. Michael Dansby already told you so. He ran
- 22:06Speaker 1: a four two five as a seventh round pick from
- 22:10Speaker 1: the third to last pick of the draft. Jenerian Price
- 22:12Speaker 1: they did at Notre Dame the entire college career, his
- 22:15Speaker 1: entire college career, despite the fact that he was second string.
- 22:18Speaker 1: How many backups I mean not talking was a backup,
- 22:21Speaker 1: backup through his final game in colleges become first round picks.
- 22:25Speaker 4: I mean that's unheard of.
- 22:28Speaker 1: That's because John Schneider was judging it from a different lens. Now,
- 22:33Speaker 1: let's be honest, Chris. This draft, Chris, was remarkable in
- 22:37Speaker 1: that they lost Kenneth Walker, they got a running back,
- 22:40Speaker 1: They lost Kobe Bryant in free agency, they got a safety,
- 22:44Speaker 1: they lost Rik wooland they got a corner Anthony Bradford,
- 22:49Speaker 1: the right guard who's going to the final year of
- 22:50Speaker 1: his contract. They got a guard. You know what I mean.
- 22:52Speaker 4: The first four picks were turnkey, right.
- 22:55Speaker 1: Yeah, fourtnite, four to five to one. Your opinion first
- 23:01Speaker 1: of the draft and how you thought what the best
- 23:04Speaker 1: with the worst? But Chris, I would submit that, first
- 23:09Speaker 1: of all, we're not I'm not grading them until we
- 23:11Speaker 1: see him how they play in three or four years.
- 23:13Speaker 1: But that's me. But how'd you think about this whole
- 23:17Speaker 1: draft and viewing it from the lens of a more
- 23:19Speaker 1: macro view of how the Seahawks do things?
- 23:21Speaker 3: I think they noted, especially when you talk about the
- 23:23Speaker 3: competitors skill. For instance, I'm gonna be honest here and
- 23:28Speaker 3: correct me if I'm wrong, but you got eleven starters
- 23:31Speaker 3: and eleven offensive stars eleven to defensive stars.
- 23:34Speaker 4: That's twenty two total players.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Correct?
- 23:36Speaker 3: Actually, yes, on the field, on the field at one time, correct, right, Yes,
- 23:39Speaker 3: what that being said, I would argue that for the starters,
- 23:43Speaker 3: and I'm not trying to discount the guys that are
- 23:45Speaker 3: subbing in and out getting playing time, but they're not
- 23:47Speaker 3: the starters. But for those core guys, dare I say
- 23:51Speaker 3: those are all elite competitors like usually they are part
- 23:57Speaker 3: of your core. They all define the culture offensive and defense.
- 24:02Speaker 3: So I think that right there is set the tone
- 24:04Speaker 3: when you have twenty two starters that are in that
- 24:07Speaker 3: realm of elite competitors, because then you would say the
- 24:09Speaker 3: notch below that is high competitors and maybe, yeah, he
- 24:13Speaker 3: had my.
- 24:13Speaker 4: Pertrid, he might not be elite, but damn he's high.
- 24:16Speaker 3: Like I would say Josh Joby's elite just because of
- 24:19Speaker 3: he's already playing undersize. He doesn't care though that, he
- 24:22Speaker 3: doesn't go into the game thinking, oh damn, I'm going
- 24:24Speaker 3: up against Mike Evans, He's like, Oh, I'm gonna go
- 24:27Speaker 3: lock down Mike Evans, and if they send help my way,
- 24:29Speaker 3: that's great. So when you look at that competitor scale
- 24:32Speaker 3: what John Schnudder talked about, that's a championship level roster.
- 24:36Speaker 4: And I'm just talking about the starters.
- 24:38Speaker 3: That's not me going at the bench and looking at
- 24:39Speaker 3: guys that are rotating in like a Mike Morris, who
- 24:42Speaker 3: how is he not an elite competitor. This dude's on
- 24:44Speaker 3: Kickoff all right, He's out there giving it as all
- 24:47Speaker 3: on every single play. So I think for this roster breakdown,
- 24:50Speaker 3: believe it or not, this roster might have like fifty
- 24:52Speaker 3: dudes that are of the elite competitor. And I'm not
- 24:54Speaker 3: a scientist, and I can't look at the guy. I'm like, oh,
- 24:57Speaker 3: off to the tape, he's an elite. I won't be
- 24:59Speaker 3: able to do that. But just how Mike MacDonald and
- 25:01Speaker 3: John Sider have built this team and this roster around
- 25:04Speaker 3: his vision of being physical and doing it the right way.
- 25:08Speaker 3: How could you not look at this roster and be like, man,
- 25:10Speaker 3: it's just elite competitors across the board, where in years past,
- 25:14Speaker 3: maybe it was like seven or eight guys that are
- 25:17Speaker 3: elite competitors, but now you're seeing the whole team being
- 25:21Speaker 3: elevated to that, and they're just bringing in more guys
- 25:24Speaker 3: that could also get to that level of elite competition,
- 25:27Speaker 3: like Julian Neil. Okay, maybe he's right now high competition,
- 25:31Speaker 3: but you mean to tell me by week one of
- 25:32Speaker 3: the twenty twenty six NFL season, he's not in that
- 25:35Speaker 3: elite competition, just by how he carries himself, how he
- 25:39Speaker 3: was talking on the phone with Hugh breaking down a
- 25:40Speaker 3: specific play like oh wait, wait, wait, wait, you give
- 25:43Speaker 3: it hey mane playing man, and I'm going to go
- 25:46Speaker 3: lock up whoever that is in front of me. You
- 25:47Speaker 3: know what, He might have got me on that first step,
- 25:49Speaker 3: but best believe I'm gonna come sprinting back, and I'm
- 25:52Speaker 3: gonna turn and look for the ball. One of my
- 25:54Speaker 3: biggest critiques about cornerbacks in the NFL is they panic
- 25:57Speaker 3: too early. If they get beat, what do they do? They'
- 25:59Speaker 3: start getting handy and they never turn and look for
- 26:01Speaker 3: the ball. Instead, they just panic. This kid's talking about Alma,
- 26:05Speaker 3: turn my head and go get it. That is impressive stuff.
- 26:09Speaker 3: So he knows ball.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Now, let's be honest, if you're in the NFL, you're
- 26:13Speaker 1: an elite competitor, or else you wouldn't get there. But
- 26:15Speaker 1: the point we're making is how the Seahawks evaluate and
- 26:19Speaker 1: prioritize this intangible of competitiveness and how hard it is
- 26:24Speaker 1: to judge. I mean, you can't just look at a
- 26:26Speaker 1: game for like Chris's point and just say, oh, that
- 26:28Speaker 1: guy's competitive. Of course they're competing. They're in major college
- 26:30Speaker 1: football most of them, and they're trying to get a
- 26:33Speaker 1: job in the NFL. Yeah, they're competing. The point is
- 26:36Speaker 1: you got to go dig deep. You got to go,
- 26:38Speaker 1: like I said, into the dorms, you got to go
- 26:40Speaker 1: into the meeting rooms with the college staffs, you got
- 26:43Speaker 1: to go back to high school to guidance counselors. They
- 26:46Speaker 1: do that. They spend time doing that year over year,
- 26:51Speaker 1: and in some cases a lot of times two and
- 26:53Speaker 1: three years. And for one draft class, they're working on
- 26:55Speaker 1: the twenty eight draft class in some cases right now,
- 26:58Speaker 1: interviewing and going on campuses. When they go to campuses,
- 27:00Speaker 1: they don't just look at the days they're looking to
- 27:02Speaker 1: draft coming up. That's why there's often a trend of
- 27:06Speaker 1: they get a guy from a school and then they
- 27:07Speaker 1: follow up and get the guy from the same school
- 27:09Speaker 1: in the next couple of years. Now, that didn't hold quite
- 27:12Speaker 1: as true this year, but that has happened before. Look
- 27:16Speaker 1: at Gray's Abel after signing a year after signing Jalen Sindel.
- 27:20Speaker 1: They signed Jalen Sidel as an undrafted rookie free agent
- 27:22Speaker 1: from North Dakota State, and a year later his roommate,
- 27:26Speaker 1: Grey's Abel was the Seayarks number one pick. And now
- 27:28Speaker 1: there's studs left tackle, left guard, and center starting side
- 27:33Speaker 1: by side at the Super Bowl, former roommates in Fargo,
- 27:35Speaker 1: North Dakota. So there isn't there. There's that as well,
- 27:40Speaker 1: but they're projecting out one, two, three years on what
- 27:43Speaker 1: their draft is going to look like and players they're
- 27:45Speaker 1: going to put on their board early as guys, hey,
- 27:48Speaker 1: let's follow this guy because of the competitor and things
- 27:50Speaker 1: I've talked about with guys on their women on their
- 27:54Speaker 1: campus on how these players are off the field. That
- 27:57Speaker 1: is that takes time, that takes an investment, and that
- 28:01Speaker 1: takes a belief and consistency in your messaging and culture
- 28:04Speaker 1: and direction in your program.
- 28:06Speaker 4: And when you are changing gms every three or.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Four years, like a lot of North American sports programs
- 28:10Speaker 1: are franchises are. That's really hard to do, and you're
- 28:15Speaker 1: just trying to keep your job and win games. You
- 28:17Speaker 1: don't have time for competitor scale and self efficacy. You're
- 28:20Speaker 1: just trying to keep yourself and getting fired if you're
- 28:23Speaker 1: in Cleveland or the Raiders or that's the see. That's
- 28:27Speaker 1: the benefit that Seattle has to have this consistency over
- 28:31Speaker 1: seventeen years of the same scouting philosophy with the same
- 28:35Speaker 1: general manager and only two coaches, is that you have
- 28:40Speaker 1: this unity and direction in this clarity and mission and understanding,
- 28:45Speaker 1: and then you can do projects like self efficacy and
- 28:49Speaker 1: competitor scales. I mean, and let's face it, they also
- 28:54Speaker 1: have the luxury of being the Super Bowl champions with
- 28:56Speaker 1: twenty one of twenty two starters returning and not a
- 28:58Speaker 1: lot of holes. Now we're going to talk about there
- 29:01Speaker 1: is It's not like the Seahawks just solved everything with
- 29:04Speaker 1: this draft. They still don't have edge rusher's depth that
- 29:07Speaker 1: they want to have. They still have Derek Hall entering
- 29:09Speaker 1: the final year of his contract as one of their
- 29:11Speaker 1: primary ed rushers, they still have Delmarcus Lawrence entering his
- 29:14Speaker 1: age thirty four season and thirteenth NFL year. He's not
- 29:18Speaker 1: going to play forever, so they don't have long term
- 29:20Speaker 1: edge rushers. Boy Mafy leaving twenty million dollar a year
- 29:23Speaker 1: to Cincinnati, we're going to We discussed that with John
- 29:27Speaker 1: Schneider and Mike McDonald after the draft, and you're gonna
- 29:30Speaker 1: hear about that. But now we go into the next phase.
- 29:34Speaker 1: We had this draft phase. Now we're going into free
- 29:36Speaker 1: agency phase. Dante Fowler is one of the veteran edge
- 29:41Speaker 1: rushers available with free agent. He visited the Seahawks last week.
- 29:46Speaker 1: I got that confirmed that well, I was at the draft, Chris.
- 29:50Speaker 1: Today is a milestone day in free agency. In some
- 29:53Speaker 1: ways people overlook Starting today and from today on to
- 29:58Speaker 1: the rest of into the sea, every veteran free agent
- 30:02Speaker 1: you signed does not count against the compensatory draft pick
- 30:05Speaker 1: formula for twenty twenty seven starting today, the Monday after
- 30:08Speaker 1: the draft. All veteran free agents signed after that time
- 30:11Speaker 1: do not count toward the compick formula. And the Seahawks
- 30:15Speaker 1: have eleven picks next year because they're going to be
- 30:17Speaker 1: plus three. It appears in compicks from what they lost
- 30:20Speaker 1: between Wowood and Bryant and at all Kenneth Walker. So today,
- 30:27Speaker 1: starting today, the Seahawks can sign at Will without worrying
- 30:30Speaker 1: about losing draft picks for him the following year. That
- 30:32Speaker 1: would in effect the twenty twenty seven draft. It would
- 30:34Speaker 1: affect the twenty eight ers the next year after this draft.
- 30:37Speaker 1: That's how it works. The free agents you get this
- 30:39Speaker 1: year affect the compic for next year. But anyway, the
- 30:42Speaker 1: point is, excuse me, I'm misdating there, because if they
- 30:45Speaker 1: signed a Dante Fowler on Saturday, that would count against
- 30:49Speaker 1: the twenty twenty seven compick formula if he qualified. There's
- 30:51Speaker 1: a bunch of different ways of qualification the league puts in.
- 30:54Speaker 1: But anyway, the point is now John Schneider has even
- 30:57Speaker 1: more reason to sign veterans. We talked about Harris to
- 31:00Speaker 1: running back who's on a visit coming off an Achilles
- 31:03Speaker 1: injury and so on. So anyway, we've entered the next
- 31:06Speaker 1: phase of this process is the point. But this competitor scale,
- 31:10Speaker 1: the self efficacy, is something that the Seahawks relied on
- 31:13Speaker 1: to get the competitors not in awe of the locker room.
- 31:16Speaker 1: They're about to walk into. Starting this weekend with the
- 31:19Speaker 1: rookie Mini camp coming up, we'll talk about the undrafted
- 31:23Speaker 1: rookie free agency. Reportedly the Seahawks are signing in a
- 31:26Speaker 1: little bit about what the heck went on in the
- 31:27Speaker 1: NFC West outside of Seattle in the draft, because there
- 31:30Speaker 1: was some weird stuff going on between the forty nine Ers,
- 31:32Speaker 1: Rams and Cardinals. At eleven o'clock, the position coach at
- 31:36Speaker 1: TCU for the second round pick, Bud Clark, will talk
- 31:38Speaker 1: to us from Texas. All that coming up. Thanks for
- 31:41Speaker 1: joining us on Monday on ninety three point three KJRFM.

- 32:31Speaker 1: a month if you want to get all our Seahawk
- 32:35Speaker 1: coverage and everything high school sports and everything else and
- 32:38Speaker 1: the News Tribune Thenewstribune dot com. The Seahawks, of course,
- 32:43Speaker 1: they don't have. They have a ninety minute roster. They
- 32:46Speaker 1: had eight draft picks. There are eight spots for undrafted
- 32:50Speaker 1: rookie Fred's Udfas you see that term throw it around
- 32:54Speaker 1: quite a bit. That's what it means as guys who
- 32:55Speaker 1: were not drafted, and a lot of times the seventh
- 32:57Speaker 1: round picks they take were about to be undrafted free agents,
- 33:00Speaker 1: and then they found out that they might be in
- 33:02Speaker 1: a bidding war with the team and some other team
- 33:03Speaker 1: was interested in him, and so they go ahead draft
- 33:05Speaker 1: him instead of wait till the draft's over. That happens
- 33:08Speaker 1: a lot in the seventh round as well. But these
- 33:10Speaker 1: other reported Seahawks signings for the rookie free agents, there's
- 33:15Speaker 1: room on a ninety man roster for eight. Of them,
- 33:17Speaker 1: six have been reported already signed by Seattle. Levi Wentz,
- 33:20Speaker 1: a wide receiver from Kansas, Aiden Hubbard, an edge rusher
- 33:23Speaker 1: from Northwestern, Michael Briscoe, a wide receiver from cal Poly,
- 33:27Speaker 1: Seyo Samalow say you omalo is a defensive tackle from
- 33:31Speaker 1: Kansas State and an intriguing one. Lance Mason, a tight
- 33:34Speaker 1: end from Wisconsin. Devin Deal, linebacker TCU. No doubt when
- 33:38Speaker 1: they were looking at Bud Clark att TCU, they noticed
- 33:40Speaker 1: Devin Deal. Of those who are interesting to me, Aiden Hubbard,
- 33:46Speaker 1: who did very well in the Big Ten as an
- 33:48Speaker 1: edge rusher in the position of need that we just
- 33:50Speaker 1: talked about that they did not draft an edge rusher
- 33:52Speaker 1: of their eight players. Samlo defensive tackle from Kansas State,
- 33:58Speaker 1: another guy would be interesting me with a chance to
- 34:00Speaker 1: make a team that has depth need at the interior
- 34:03Speaker 1: defensive line spot. And Devin Deal, a linebacker the athleticism
- 34:07Speaker 1: that Mike McDonald covet's at that position he used to coach.
- 34:11Speaker 1: So those are three I'm interested in looking at this
- 34:13Speaker 1: weekend at the rookie Seahawks Mini camp at team facility
- 34:18Speaker 1: in rent And they also I've also confirmed that the
- 34:20Speaker 1: Seahawks have invited former Tulane and BYU quarterback Jake Getzlaf
- 34:25Speaker 1: to rookie mini caamp this weeken on a tryout basis,
- 34:28Speaker 1: not signed as a rookie friedan with another tryout. They
- 34:30Speaker 1: have some tryout players. They're more tryout players than the
- 34:33Speaker 1: rookie free agens they actually sign at these mini camps
- 34:35Speaker 1: because they got to fill out a couple fields of
- 34:38Speaker 1: practices players. And in the quarterbacks case, you don't want
- 34:42Speaker 1: one quarterback throwing his arm out, and so they they
- 34:45Speaker 1: may have Jalen Milroe out there at rookie mini camp
- 34:47Speaker 1: because that happens often the first or second year player,
- 34:51Speaker 1: say second third year player that hasn't played much in
- 34:53Speaker 1: needs development. And in the quarterbacks case, you can't have
- 34:56Speaker 1: one quarterback out there throwing his arm off, so you
- 34:58Speaker 1: bring gets laugh. They'll probably bring a local guy from
- 35:02Speaker 1: one of the local schools as well. In I hate
- 35:04Speaker 1: to use the word mini camp arm but that's what
- 35:07Speaker 1: they are. So that one quarterback hasn't been throwing his
- 35:09Speaker 1: arm out, So Jake gets Leaft gets a jack and
- 35:12Speaker 1: if by the way, along the way they to use
- 35:15Speaker 1: Ian Ferness's term, along the way, if they impress the Seahawks,
- 35:18Speaker 1: then bam, maybe they look at potentially signing him for
- 35:21Speaker 1: the preseason or on the offseason roster. But that's how
- 35:24Speaker 1: that works. So there'll be other quarterbacks beside just Jake
- 35:27Speaker 1: Getz left from Tulane and former BYU quarterback in this
- 35:30Speaker 1: mini camp Riocky Manicamp this weekend. Okay, what happened around
- 35:35Speaker 1: the rest of the NFC West, Well, we talked about
- 35:36Speaker 1: ty Simpson being the Rams first pick when Sean mcvayh
- 35:40Speaker 1: is wedded to Matthew Stafford, and how the Rams were
- 35:42Speaker 1: in a rare position to be picking that high, a
- 35:44Speaker 1: NFC title game participant, picking thirteenth and they pick a
- 35:47Speaker 1: layaway quarterback. That was bizarre. In Arizona, they took Jeremiah
- 35:53Speaker 1: Love with the third pick. Some people are knocking that, Chris,
- 35:55Speaker 1: but come on, that's a number one running back in
- 35:56Speaker 1: the draft and an offense and needs re build.
- 36:01Speaker 4: You gotta take a swing at some point, and they did.
- 36:03Speaker 1: So. People wanted a lineman. Some people want a lineman there,
- 36:06Speaker 1: but you can I was talking. I heard Hugh on
- 36:08Speaker 1: the way in talking about that, you got to get
- 36:10Speaker 1: the splash guy first. I think he thinks, yeah.
- 36:16Speaker 4: It it's a fun one.
- 36:18Speaker 3: You know, four years from now, he's either going to be,
- 36:21Speaker 3: you know, all pro every year, and even then the
- 36:24Speaker 3: value for our running back is like, yeah, you're all pro.
- 36:27Speaker 3: But man, we've done a fourth pick on you. Like
- 36:29Speaker 3: they needed to be Saquon yesterday.
- 36:31Speaker 1: Well they need a lot of that. In Arizona, the
- 36:33Speaker 1: Cardinals drafted Carson Beck as their quarterback of the future.
- 36:36Speaker 1: They have no quarterback, remember, of the future, unless you
- 36:38Speaker 1: cut well, I don't think you can. Can they No,
- 36:41Speaker 1: they don't. Gardner Minshew is he the quarterback in the future?
- 36:47Speaker 4: Good?
- 36:47Speaker 1: Good, good back up?
- 36:48Speaker 2: You know?
- 36:49Speaker 1: Okay, Well they cut Kyler Murray and then they drafted
- 36:52Speaker 1: Carson Beck, who was in college for like ninety two
- 36:55Speaker 1: years for seven schools or whatever ended up being. And
- 37:00Speaker 1: then in San Francisco, we're in Santa Clara. The forty
- 37:02Speaker 1: nine ers chose up their first pick if they're trading
- 37:04Speaker 1: down twice out of the first round, the first pick
- 37:07Speaker 1: in the second round, just the wide receiver John's stribbling
- 37:11Speaker 1: from Ole Miss And many people thought he was a
- 37:12Speaker 1: third or fourth round pick, and he went thirty third
- 37:14Speaker 1: overall to the forty nine Ers general manager John Lynch
- 37:18Speaker 1: and coach Kyle Shanahan. They're getting clobbered by the media
- 37:21Speaker 1: down in the Bear in Nashley for their drafts. I
- 37:24Speaker 1: saw Brian Baldinger comment and the NFL network Brian Boldinger
- 37:27Speaker 1: today saying what are they doing? Basically, this is what
- 37:31Speaker 1: Lynch and then Shanahan had to say about one of
- 37:33Speaker 1: their beat writers asking him about reaching all the time
- 37:36Speaker 1: in recent drafts.
- 37:38Speaker 3: John, your draft board seems to deviate quite a bit
- 37:41Speaker 3: from the consensus.
- 37:42Speaker 1: Why are you confident with that?
- 37:43Speaker 7: Giving your track record drafting the last few years, it
- 37:46Speaker 7: seems like it leads to you making reaches.
- 37:49Speaker 5: Appreciate that you think that depends who's consensus.
- 37:52Speaker 7: We got consensus in this building and that's the That's
- 37:56Speaker 7: the consensus I care about.
- 37:57Speaker 9: Yeah, that was one of the coolest things with his drafts,
- 37:59Speaker 9: you know, so you don't reach on somebody, like if
- 38:03Speaker 9: there's somebody you know you're going to take at that
- 38:04Speaker 9: spot and your consensus or all your homework from around
- 38:08Speaker 9: the league, not necessarily like Twitter or media stuff, just
- 38:11Speaker 9: like think you investiget them when people are going to
- 38:14Speaker 9: go and if you know you're going to take someone,
- 38:16Speaker 9: you think's the best player, but you don't think they're
- 38:19Speaker 9: going to go into like fifteen picks later, twenty picks later.
- 38:21Speaker 9: It's always a huge risk.
- 38:23Speaker 1: Because you never find out when they're going to go
- 38:25Speaker 1: if you take him there gotta Shanahan with a subtle diggot, yeah,
- 38:28Speaker 1: we don't draft based on Twitter's basically what he said there.
- 38:32Speaker 1: So yeah, things are going swimmingly in the forty nine
- 38:34Speaker 1: ers area. I thought Seattle fans might want to hear
- 38:38Speaker 1: that up. Next, Juice Brown. He was the former Washington
- 38:41Speaker 1: Husky's quarterback coach under Kavin Debor. Now he's the TCU
- 38:45Speaker 1: quarterbacks coach. He coached Bud Clark the last two years,
- 38:48Speaker 1: the Seahawks second round pick. The position coach on the
- 38:51Speaker 1: air next on ninety three point three KJRFM,
