- 2:43Speaker 1: Fellas doing well? Good football recap show yesterday, Great Broke Down,
- 2:47Speaker 1: a lot of good ball, a lot.
- 2:48Speaker 6: Of good ball, football porn episode. If you like to
- 2:52Speaker 6: get in the weeds of football and the ex's and
- 2:54Speaker 6: No's Greg Olsen, He's Great twelve thirteen person off the
- 2:57Speaker 6: evolution of the game basically coming from the tight end position.
- 3:02Speaker 6: Tight ends have changed everything about football in the NFL.
- 3:06Speaker 6: If you're wondering how to dos well feel about the
- 3:08Speaker 6: Nebraska thing recap? How we're feel about South Carolina, Michigan, Tennessee, Miami.
- 3:14Speaker 6: Everything happened that is in the recap show. This is
- 3:17Speaker 6: the Bustin intro and Boys. Spootober is over. Another year
- 3:22Speaker 6: is gone, Another year has passed. Moment of silence for Spootober.
- 3:31Speaker 1: It's been an interesting year for sure.
- 3:33Speaker 6: Last week I said on this bus wall you find
- 3:34Speaker 6: gentlemen were dressed up in your best Halloween costumes. It
- 3:37Speaker 6: was beautiful, it was wonderful. There's only one thing missing.
- 3:39Speaker 6: The head of Spooktober, the man who dubs himself number
- 3:41Speaker 6: one of all Spookiness, was not wearing that I like
- 3:45Speaker 6: to believe I wrote the ship a little bit throughout
- 3:47Speaker 6: the week. That's not for me to say, put it
- 3:50Speaker 6: in your court. I'm basically putting words in your guys's mouth.
- 3:51Speaker 6: I will take the compliment, thank you. But a hell
- 3:55Speaker 6: of a Spootober for the Lawan family. The Lawan family
- 3:58Speaker 6: as a whole didn't watch as many spooky movies as
- 4:02Speaker 6: I wanted, didn't get my adult fix of Spooktober that
- 4:05Speaker 6: I like to get. But from a family standpoint, Disney
- 4:08Speaker 6: World Mickey Mouse is not so scary Halloween. We had
- 4:11Speaker 6: the trick or treating, we carved pumpkins, we had I
- 4:13Speaker 6: think my kids trigger treated three separate times, including a
- 4:17Speaker 6: Halloween party as well. So overall I.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Have to get We hit Nico Lane.
- 4:23Speaker 6: By the way, dude, if I'm ever gonna move from
- 4:26Speaker 6: my house in Nashville, Tennessee, that's the neighborhood I'm moving into.
- 4:29Speaker 6: It is they bought in. You could tell there's a
- 4:33Speaker 6: couple of bad apples, Like there's four or five houses
- 4:35Speaker 6: out there that either they're too old or they're anti Halloween.
- 4:39Speaker 6: But that whole neighborhood, dude lined up. There was a
- 4:41Speaker 6: tent where adults could go and get their adult beverages
- 4:44Speaker 6: while the kids were hitting the trick or treating Willie
- 4:47Speaker 6: see hit me up?
- 4:48Speaker 5: Hey.
- 4:48Speaker 6: We went to this place last year, my neighbors telling
- 4:50Speaker 6: me this is the spot to go, and I was
- 4:52Speaker 6: dealing with gout, which we'll talk about in a little bit.
- 4:54Speaker 6: But that was the That was trick or treating. That's
- 4:58Speaker 6: trigger treating on staireroids.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Dude.
- 5:00Speaker 6: Everybody's dressed up, everyone's having a good time. Parents are
- 5:03Speaker 6: making jokes and other parents of like what costumes we're in.
- 5:06Speaker 6: We're all kind of staying in character with each other.
- 5:08Speaker 6: Your family was dialed in. I thought. Every time I
- 5:11Speaker 6: looked at Charo, I laughed, Bro, I would see what
- 5:16Speaker 6: you just hear just Charles's voice coaching. Oh hey Taylor,
- 5:21Speaker 6: shit all right? Bing bomb. But dude, just so funny
- 5:24Speaker 6: it was. It was outstanding. And there was like roadblocks
- 5:27Speaker 6: with the police officers. You get down the street and
- 5:30Speaker 6: it was like a firework display where like the finale
- 5:32Speaker 6: was the last house in the left. Dude, their display.
- 5:36Speaker 6: I looked at the tail and I go, we gotta
- 5:37Speaker 6: step our ship up, dude, Like this is I like
- 5:39Speaker 6: to take a lot of pride in the decorations you
- 5:41Speaker 6: put in the one household this house, their lights, their decorations.
- 5:45Speaker 6: I was like, this ship is incredible. That is amazing.
- 5:49Speaker 6: And Charles's parents too, I didn't even realize it was them.
- 5:53Speaker 6: What stuff about that?
- 5:57Speaker 7: He's like, Ah, just Will having to be year. I mean,
- 6:03Speaker 7: he crushed it, he owned the role. He crushed the role.
- 6:06Speaker 7: But it just doesn't sit right with me that he
- 6:08Speaker 7: was that he was assigned to be feared.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Yeah, that's not Will. That's not what I hate that
- 6:13Speaker 1: that got used against me immediately, That's what I'm saying.
- 6:16Speaker 7: Like that, And it won't be the last time.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Nebraska, anytime they showed me play a top twenty five team.
- 6:20Speaker 7: It's just me, Bro, it's now there forever. Yeah, you
- 6:25Speaker 7: put in way too much work to have that be
- 6:28Speaker 7: your legacy.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I don't disagree with that.
- 6:32Speaker 6: I thought you knocked out of the park a couple
- 6:33Speaker 6: of things too. Yell a little piece of green in your teeth?
- 6:36Speaker 1: Oh thank you.
- 6:36Speaker 6: Yeah, we're gonna get that out of the way. Side
- 6:39Speaker 6: other side of the side of the said, ah, yeah,
- 6:41Speaker 6: one over to the one over yeap, that one?
- 6:44Speaker 1: Did you get it?
- 6:45Speaker 6: Smile?
- 6:45Speaker 1: At me.
- 6:46Speaker 6: Boom, He's back.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Yeah, dude.
- 6:48Speaker 6: The whole though fit was it was outstanding.
- 6:51Speaker 7: Who was the winner that y'all saw? Like everybody looked
- 6:53Speaker 7: and was like, dang, that's a good costume.
- 6:55Speaker 6: I saw one dad in a Willie Wonka fit, yes,
- 6:59Speaker 6: but it was like, well, like a very well like
- 7:02Speaker 6: actual three piece. I probably got a custom made. I'm like,
- 7:05Speaker 6: this dude really sold out. Good looking cat good. Yeah,
- 7:08Speaker 6: had the longer hair, the big hat on the cane.
- 7:13Speaker 6: I was with that. Yeah, I saw a times.
- 7:15Speaker 1: The second time around, He's like, what's up, will And
- 7:16Speaker 1: I was like, oh, okay, we're both just not awkwardly
- 7:18Speaker 1: staring at each other. I thought he just looked great
- 7:20Speaker 1: in the Willy Wonker.
- 7:21Speaker 6: Yeah. Yeah, yeah. I think the first time I met
- 7:23Speaker 6: he was like, bro, you really that's awesome. He's like, yeah,
- 7:26Speaker 6: you too, Dobby, And I was like, ship, all right,
- 7:30Speaker 6: you understand my game. You understand my game a little bit.
- 7:34Speaker 6: Look at that hot dog. Yeah. Anyway, dude, Spootober was awesome.
- 7:39Speaker 6: It was awesome for the ones. I'm sure the confidence
- 7:41Speaker 6: had a great time. Would you just call Pumpkins?
- 7:43Speaker 1: No covering Pumpkins? We kind of gave up after last week, dude,
- 7:47Speaker 1: I shut down the entire house. Okay, Taylor quit on that.
- 7:52Speaker 1: We gotta pack it in. Don't say that we gotta.
- 7:55Speaker 7: So just to be clear, are you stepping down or
- 7:58Speaker 7: are you not?
- 7:59Speaker 6: I can't step that. If you guys think there's somebody
- 8:02Speaker 6: that's more fit at this bus, I can't stop you.
- 8:05Speaker 6: This as a democracy, there's no hierarchy here. I would
- 8:08Speaker 6: love another opportunity, cause you're right, listen the multiple gambling
- 8:13Speaker 6: shows the ESPN. My brain got too like focused on
- 8:16Speaker 6: my weekly routine that when Spootober came, I didn't give
- 8:19Speaker 6: it what it should have been. I see where I
- 8:21Speaker 6: went wrong, and I apologize for that. I could be better.
- 8:24Speaker 6: And then it was just I just mashed a bunch
- 8:27Speaker 6: of it in the last week, mashed.
- 8:30Speaker 8: I do want to throw it out there. I don't
- 8:31Speaker 8: think it would be like a democracy type thing of like,
- 8:34Speaker 8: oh we vote for somebody to replace Taylor. They would
- 8:37Speaker 8: have to challenge you head on to a spook off.
- 8:39Speaker 8: I think it's like a one v one Battle of.
- 8:42Speaker 6: The Spook, Battle of the Spook.
- 8:44Speaker 8: I don't think anybody's going to challenge you, though. I
- 8:46Speaker 8: think you still are the Prince of darkness. But I
- 8:49Speaker 8: just wanted to put it out there, a spook off
- 8:52Speaker 8: if somebody wanted.
- 8:53Speaker 6: To challenge you know, the person that I think would
- 8:55Speaker 6: challenge me and probably have the most likelihood of success
- 8:58Speaker 6: is the person that was just talking on the mic.
- 9:01Speaker 8: I don't have it. I ain't got it.
- 9:04Speaker 1: We'll break it down, you know, we'll look at we'll
- 9:06Speaker 1: look at the winds of Speotober, We'll look at what worked,
- 9:09Speaker 1: what didn't, where there's opportunity, and it'll be a collective brand,
- 9:13Speaker 1: like we're gonna have to get more guys involved, because again,
- 9:16Speaker 1: we were in a this was a big, massive contract
- 9:18Speaker 1: here for Taylor, and I think if you're looking at
- 9:20Speaker 1: it front office wise, you're gonna have to figure out
- 9:23Speaker 1: something replaceable for what we did.
- 9:26Speaker 6: I didn't like any of that. I like the way
- 9:28Speaker 6: that felt at all happen.
- 9:29Speaker 1: I know it's uncomfortable. It's uncomfortable.
- 9:32Speaker 6: Hey, you make the bed. You have to be able
- 9:33Speaker 6: to sit there and be like, hey, why is he
- 9:35Speaker 6: saying that? Why is it hurt? Because there's truth in it,
- 9:37Speaker 6: That's why it hurts. And I have to sit there
- 9:39Speaker 6: and I have to realize, listen, it's November three, right now. Correct.
- 9:43Speaker 6: I got a long way to the next Speutober, the
- 9:46Speaker 6: longest ways you can possibly get. And there's a lot
- 9:48Speaker 6: of reflecting I need to do you as well, the
- 9:51Speaker 6: front office, you guys. You guys need to have your
- 9:52Speaker 6: internal conversations. Then I shouldn't be a part of because
- 9:55Speaker 6: I didn't earn that right. And I just hope at
- 9:57Speaker 6: the end of the day we get to September and
- 9:59Speaker 6: we know spoo to obra's on the horizon, you guys
- 10:01Speaker 6: can look at me and be like, we're gonna give
- 10:02Speaker 6: you one more shot. Yeah, that's all I'm that's all
- 10:04Speaker 6: I'm hoping for.
- 10:05Speaker 1: How many days are we until Spootober?
- 10:07Speaker 6: Oh it has to be three hundred and thirty one?
- 10:12Speaker 1: We just typed that out right now on Twitter. It's
- 10:15Speaker 1: not oh yeah, yeah, no, yeah, sixties yeah, sixty.
- 10:21Speaker 6: One because Spootobra starts October one.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Oh yes, that's another great point. We're leading.
- 10:30Speaker 6: It might be thirty one, thirty two. Are you just
- 10:32Speaker 6: tweeting that you just tweeted that out.
- 10:33Speaker 1: I might have to be the guy. I might.
- 10:37Speaker 6: If there's a guy here that's gonna hold it, it's
- 10:39Speaker 6: not gonna be you.
- 10:40Speaker 1: I might have to like next year, like when Merch
- 10:42Speaker 1: comes out and everything else, I just might have to
- 10:43Speaker 1: be the guy for Spootobra.
- 10:46Speaker 6: Spook Off. Yeah it doesn't. We can actually have a No,
- 10:50Speaker 6: I haven't, and I know that I just did it out.
- 10:53Speaker 1: You're lying, No I didn't. No, I'm like, I'm like,
- 10:56Speaker 1: now will I when this episode comes out? So that
- 10:58Speaker 1: way everybody's in on the inside joke. But yeah, it's
- 11:03Speaker 1: it's more of that. It's like mere Monday, We've got
- 11:05Speaker 1: to take a good, hard look in the mirror. We
- 11:06Speaker 1: have to get uncomfortable and be like, what's going to
- 11:09Speaker 1: push if? If Spootober is going to be a real
- 11:13Speaker 1: thing for the brand, we got to remove the we
- 11:15Speaker 1: had fun as a family. Is like do we want
- 11:17Speaker 1: this to be a hobby or do we want this
- 11:19Speaker 1: to be a thing for the brand?
- 11:21Speaker 6: But let's look at the last week, right, You're only
- 11:23Speaker 6: as good as your last week in Spootober and I
- 11:25Speaker 6: think if you want to Bee brought it home. Yeah,
- 11:27Speaker 6: we're talking about eight different eight different costumes in ESPN.
- 11:31Speaker 1: You needed a lot of motivating starting last Monday.
- 11:35Speaker 6: When we is to not be motivated by others, be
- 11:38Speaker 6: motivated by yourself. How do you beat yesterday. That's the
- 11:42Speaker 6: goal here.
- 11:43Speaker 1: He's being Michigan.
- 11:44Speaker 7: It's like last year they're having a down year, but
- 11:46Speaker 7: they come in and they beat a house state at
- 11:48Speaker 7: the end. Yeah, it's kind of it's it's a reflection.
- 11:51Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it's a lot of Like it's like if
- 11:54Speaker 1: there's an analogy, it just feels like the Mitch's fandom.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Mitch's fandom in this last spook okay, and.
- 12:00Speaker 6: Like when I was really challenging him about it, we're
- 12:02Speaker 6: just kind of starting to try to hurt at this point,
- 12:04Speaker 6: like we're really driven a point at home. If we
- 12:06Speaker 6: won't have a spook off, that's fine, but it's like,
- 12:09Speaker 6: what do you really want this? It's like, yeah, I do.
- 12:13Speaker 6: It's like but you think about it, Yeah, but I
- 12:14Speaker 6: still want it. But I could also Yeah, but I
- 12:17Speaker 6: still want it. Like, hey, I could be better, no
- 12:22Speaker 6: doubt about it. Did I drop the ball, especially in
- 12:24Speaker 6: the middle of Spootober, No doubt. Did I kind of
- 12:28Speaker 6: have a massive lawan family spoot.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Ober, No doubt.
- 12:32Speaker 6: But when it comes to bus with the boys, Yeah,
- 12:33Speaker 6: could promote the merch better, could have came in with
- 12:36Speaker 6: more outfits, could have done a whole there's I could
- 12:39Speaker 6: have done a little bit more work for a much
- 12:41Speaker 6: better result. And that's really what you look at. It
- 12:43Speaker 6: didn't take much to have the last week that I did.
- 12:46Speaker 6: It's just like a little motivation and I need to
- 12:48Speaker 6: zoom out a little bit and realize what we did
- 12:51Speaker 6: on ESPN there that could have been every single week here,
- 12:54Speaker 6: so I'll be better. Someone wants to have a spook off,
- 12:58Speaker 6: we can have a spook off it that's fine. By the
- 13:00Speaker 6: end of the day, what's the most important. It's celebrating Spooktober.
- 13:03Speaker 6: That's the most important thing. So let's not have to
- 13:06Speaker 6: be about Taylor or Will or JP or Mitch's fandom
- 13:09Speaker 6: that way animally just takes bullets. This is about well,
- 13:12Speaker 6: it's like the opening season of the holidays, and we've
- 13:16Speaker 6: opened the season.
- 13:17Speaker 1: We had.
- 13:17Speaker 6: It was a little bit rough, we got it good
- 13:19Speaker 6: with at the end. Now we're looking forward. What's next?
- 13:22Speaker 6: Is it Christmas? Is it is it Thanksgiving? Like that's
- 13:24Speaker 6: the now debate what's going on here, and let's get
- 13:27Speaker 6: let's let's have fun, let's enjoy it, because at the
- 13:30Speaker 6: end of the day, we know, hey, this product wasn't
- 13:31Speaker 6: good enough. Taylor all right. I understand that, we understand that. Yeah,
- 13:36Speaker 6: if you want to there's another thing you want to say,
- 13:38Speaker 6: You're more than you know.
- 13:39Speaker 1: If there's ever space we get to say a few things.
- 13:42Speaker 1: It's like, uh, we're really coming down hard on Matt
- 13:44Speaker 1: for turning off the TV. It felt like this was
- 13:46Speaker 1: a moment where you've turned off the TV, you turned
- 13:48Speaker 1: it back on. There's some redemption in here. Yeah. And
- 13:52Speaker 1: I think the team like we've we've all we've all realized, like,
- 13:55Speaker 1: how do we get the best out of our guy? Like,
- 13:57Speaker 1: how do we motivate our guide? I think we've kind
- 13:59Speaker 1: of found those I think we've kind of found those buttons.
- 14:02Speaker 6: Yeah, And I think the goal now for me internally
- 14:05Speaker 6: when I have my own internal conversations with me, is Okay,
- 14:09Speaker 6: they motivated you this year. How do you bring the
- 14:11Speaker 6: motivation and stay consistently motivated through thirty one days of
- 14:14Speaker 6: fright without having them have to come and pull you
- 14:16Speaker 6: out of the weeds. Totally fair? I see that. Let
- 14:19Speaker 6: me get back it. Let me I'm starting to work.
- 14:21Speaker 6: It's like, dude, it's like Santa and his elves, Like
- 14:24Speaker 6: I'm working towards Spooktober now, Like it it takes three
- 14:28Speaker 6: sixty five to have them more with them thirty one.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:31Speaker 6: Yeah, but is there another analogy you want to use.
- 14:33Speaker 1: No, I'm just saying, if I'm having internal conversations with myself,
- 14:36Speaker 1: it's like, all right, you know how to motivate your guy.
- 14:38Speaker 1: You got to continue to coach him hard when those
- 14:39Speaker 1: opportunities come, and so at collectively we will be we'll
- 14:43Speaker 1: all be doing that, right, yeah, we all will all
- 14:47Speaker 1: be better, be better. Yeah.
- 14:48Speaker 6: I forget the fact that I just said I can
- 14:49Speaker 6: motivate myself and all that, but I.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Know, but I'm just saying, I know a player feels
- 14:53Speaker 1: that way. But sometimes it's like, hey, this is how
- 14:55Speaker 1: you got to coach this player, right, this is how
- 14:56Speaker 1: you got to motivate that.
- 14:57Speaker 6: And then a lot of times the players are gonna
- 14:59Speaker 6: find out are you going to mature a player? Are
- 15:00Speaker 6: you not? And I feel like this is an opportunity
- 15:02Speaker 6: for me to mature as a player.
- 15:04Speaker 1: But yes, as that coaches like this guy's been on
- 15:06Speaker 1: the roster for four or five years, for four or
- 15:10Speaker 1: five years, and.
- 15:11Speaker 6: I had it down. Here're gonna throw me away?
- 15:12Speaker 2: Right?
- 15:13Speaker 1: He has not been several years.
- 15:15Speaker 6: Last year said last year was the best year season
- 15:21Speaker 6: which every single week we went out and we got
- 15:23Speaker 6: we went to uh Spirit Halloween together, we went and
- 15:26Speaker 6: got pumpkins. Together, we displayed we got pumpkins and say
- 15:28Speaker 6: these are the personalities. Last year was a great year.
- 15:31Speaker 6: You can't look at this year and look at last
- 15:32Speaker 6: year and be like, now both years are bad. This
- 15:34Speaker 6: is not a great year. That was not a great year.
- 15:36Speaker 6: Did it get better at the end, yes, but do
- 15:38Speaker 6: we know, like, hey, one blip on the radar, one
- 15:41Speaker 6: blip on the radars, all of a sudden it changed
- 15:42Speaker 6: the last four or five years. That's how losing franchises
- 15:45Speaker 6: continue to lose. We want to be a winning franchise.
- 15:47Speaker 6: Let's not make it. Let's not steamroll, Let's not just Hey,
- 15:50Speaker 6: this is a step at a time. Look at the mountain.
- 15:52Speaker 6: Now look at the first step. Let's take the first step.
- 15:54Speaker 6: That's November a contract year, going to contract year, contract
- 15:58Speaker 6: yearn for another year.
- 16:00Speaker 1: And we know contract we know collectively the things we
- 16:03Speaker 1: gotta do to just push continue to push this thing.
- 16:05Speaker 2: For he's a he's a great player, who franchise tagged him.
- 16:09Speaker 1: We need one more, one more per year. Yeah, you
- 16:12Speaker 1: gotta get good pieces around him. That's where he flourished.
- 16:16Speaker 6: And I'm sitting here saying, coach, fuck the new pieces.
- 16:19Speaker 6: I can do this. I'm griving you by the caller.
- 16:22Speaker 1: I can do this. I know, I know.
- 16:24Speaker 6: We all we Yeah, we don't need anybody else. We
- 16:27Speaker 6: got everything we get is right in here. Regardless of negativity.
- 16:31Speaker 1: We're not gonna have not negativity. Iss, just a learning
- 16:34Speaker 1: This is a learning moment. Sometimes it was.
- 16:37Speaker 6: The first three times get a chipper out there. Now
- 16:41Speaker 6: it's just negativity. I was like, hey, I learned from it.
- 16:44Speaker 6: You're like, yeah, but but I learned from it.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:46Speaker 6: But the goal is how do we make it better?
- 16:48Speaker 6: How many times you're gonna have the conversation? Right if
- 16:50Speaker 6: you're if you're explaining to somebody an issue and they
- 16:52Speaker 6: say I got it, are you going to continue to
- 16:54Speaker 6: man's playing at them, or you're gonna let them count
- 16:55Speaker 6: of fucking they say they got it, let me see
- 16:57Speaker 6: if they actually got it. Because I've got it, I
- 17:00Speaker 6: understand this is what this is for the team into
- 17:04Speaker 6: Mitch's fandom. It's all right, crazy, but all right, I
- 17:07Speaker 6: understand what you're trying to say. Yeah, but it's also
- 17:09Speaker 6: like Matt turning off the TV. It's like, all right,
- 17:11Speaker 6: I still got it, Like what are we doing here?
- 17:16Speaker 6: At some point I gotta be like, hey, I gotta
- 17:18Speaker 6: defend myself now.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Yeah, this is you are exactly what I need you
- 17:21Speaker 1: to be right now. Okay, so we got you. We need.
- 17:29Speaker 6: People talk about Dylan Royol a broken fib, throwing out
- 17:32Speaker 6: wristbands and ship like. No one's talking about Taylorwan having
- 17:35Speaker 6: gout on Thursday switching into eight different outfits. No one's
- 17:39Speaker 6: talking about Taylorwan having gout, sitting on an air strip
- 17:41Speaker 6: for forty five ninety minutes wait to take off and
- 17:43Speaker 6: whether that could have taken out planes when we made
- 17:45Speaker 6: to Nashville. No one's talking about Taylorwan have a gout
- 17:48Speaker 6: with no medicine and his kids walking multiple miles during
- 17:52Speaker 6: trigger treat and not flinching because his kids got to
- 17:55Speaker 6: have the trick or treat. All right, they know their
- 17:57Speaker 6: dad's gonna be they it is his dad's holiday, all right. Yes,
- 18:01Speaker 6: Saturday November first, was I up on the couch with
- 18:03Speaker 6: my foot elevated, hitting rice all day?
- 18:06Speaker 1: Yes?
- 18:06Speaker 6: I was, But it was because of Spootober. It was
- 18:09Speaker 6: for Spootober. Am I in pain right now sitting on
- 18:11Speaker 6: this bus. You bet your ass I am. But it
- 18:14Speaker 6: was because of Spootober. So don't come at me and
- 18:17Speaker 6: say my dedication is not there all right after I've
- 18:20Speaker 6: said I've got it, and then you want to pile on.
- 18:24Speaker 6: But boys, hey, let me tell you something about gout.
- 18:26Speaker 6: It's no fucking joke.
- 18:28Speaker 1: I wouldn't.
- 18:29Speaker 6: I would probably wish with on my worst enemy. But
- 18:32Speaker 6: like people I just don't like, I would not wish
- 18:34Speaker 6: this on. Gout is horrendous diet. Like I used to think,
- 18:41Speaker 6: gout was like a for heavier set gentleman who treat
- 18:45Speaker 6: their body, yeah like that, treat their body like shit.
- 18:48Speaker 6: Like I try to be pretty good in the health
- 18:50Speaker 6: and wellness category, especially as how many you know how
- 18:52Speaker 6: many times you dive had first into a pile. You
- 18:53Speaker 6: guess they head of the chains a little bit. I'm
- 18:57Speaker 6: I've treated my body like shit the last month, no doubt.
- 19:00Speaker 6: There's been a couple of snickers laying around late at
- 19:01Speaker 6: night in a dark alley, and I think you shouldn't
- 19:03Speaker 6: be here all by yourself. I go and take them
- 19:04Speaker 6: boys down. I'm paying for it. I earned this. I
- 19:07Speaker 6: have to essentially change my relationship with food, because this
- 19:10Speaker 6: is like, I hope you guys never have to deal
- 19:13Speaker 6: with gout. It is is.
- 19:14Speaker 1: This something you have that's just like genetic to where
- 19:17Speaker 1: you're dying.
- 19:17Speaker 6: I don't know that'd be good for the comment section
- 19:20Speaker 6: because I don't think my dad ever had it. I
- 19:22Speaker 6: don't know anybody in my family ever talking about me.
- 19:24Speaker 1: And it's just like a month of just having some
- 19:25Speaker 1: fun with some food. It's like I do that all
- 19:27Speaker 1: the time, dude.
- 19:34Speaker 6: It is sharp. Like so Wednesday night, we get there.
- 19:37Speaker 6: My foot was a little sore, which I didn't think
- 19:40Speaker 6: much of. Go to sleep, wake up for like whatever,
- 19:44Speaker 6: five whatever I am for ESPN, stand up, literally fall
- 19:47Speaker 6: to the ground. I feel like a gunshot, like similar
- 19:50Speaker 6: to what you're talking about when you hit your foot injury.
- 19:52Speaker 6: A gunshot going off in your foot like that fucking hurts.
- 19:54Speaker 6: But a lot of times gout's like very like a
- 19:56Speaker 6: cute It'll be in one little area of your foot,
- 19:59Speaker 6: so you can overcomp it to like okay, I'll just
- 20:01Speaker 6: stay on like the outside of my foot and kind
- 20:03Speaker 6: of alleviate that pressure. This one, for whatever reason, it
- 20:06Speaker 6: was like the whole bottom of my foot kind of
- 20:08Speaker 6: like the middle area where if I was going to
- 20:11Speaker 6: push off, it was just so painful. And then through ESPN,
- 20:14Speaker 6: like it kept getting worse and worse, and every time
- 20:16Speaker 6: I had to go and change into different outfits, I'm
- 20:19Speaker 6: like in pain where I'm looking at Jack going I'm
- 20:20Speaker 6: in every commercial break, I'm like, dude, I'm hurting so bad.
- 20:24Speaker 6: We get to a Friday, and I like, it's kind
- 20:27Speaker 6: of feeling better. But after all that walking, like the
- 20:30Speaker 6: next day on Saturday, I went to like get out
- 20:33Speaker 6: of bed and I like, literally it took me like
- 20:34Speaker 6: twenty five thirty minutes to get out of bed to
- 20:36Speaker 6: where like Nathan Worksman and Taylor are in the room
- 20:39Speaker 6: and I'm like, like, how can we help you? I
- 20:41Speaker 6: was like, please just leave me alone, Like I feel
- 20:43Speaker 6: so vulnerable right now in my underwear while you guys
- 20:45Speaker 6: are trying to get me out of bed, Like I'm
- 20:48Speaker 6: like crawling to the toilet just to take a morning piss.
- 20:51Speaker 6: Like I would think to myself, like I would drink.
- 20:54Speaker 6: I'll be on the couch drinking a bunch of water,
- 20:56Speaker 6: and I would think, I got I kind of have
- 20:58Speaker 6: to pee right now, and I would be so afraid
- 21:00Speaker 6: to stand back up and go to the bathroom. That
- 21:03Speaker 6: another forty five minutes would go back to where like
- 21:04Speaker 6: I'm rushing to the bathroom, but I'm in so much
- 21:07Speaker 6: pain that like I'm borderline pissing on myself. That's how
- 21:10Speaker 6: much pain on dog I would have.
- 21:13Speaker 5: I would have.
- 21:14Speaker 6: There was a couple of times I was laying there
- 21:15Speaker 6: and be like peeing myself right now over getting up
- 21:18Speaker 6: is kind of a wind. That's how painful this was, dude.
- 21:21Speaker 6: And it's like it's not like, oh, I lay down
- 21:23Speaker 6: and put it up, it feels better. It's like I
- 21:25Speaker 6: any like there's no it's discomfort all day. And when
- 21:28Speaker 6: I stand up, like you would see the discolouration of
- 21:31Speaker 6: my foot to where my oldest wind she'd come up
- 21:34Speaker 6: to me, like Dad, why are your feet like complete
- 21:36Speaker 6: different colors? And like my left foot would be like
- 21:39Speaker 6: raised when I had both feet on the ground because
- 21:41Speaker 6: there was so much swelling on the bottom of my foot.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Dog.
- 21:44Speaker 6: And it's like needles. It's like needles like sticking in
- 21:48Speaker 6: the joints of your feet. It's so painful.
- 21:50Speaker 4: Do you not have like one of those cards from
- 21:53Speaker 4: the acl where you put your knee on it and
- 21:54Speaker 4: it keeps your foot up.
- 21:55Speaker 6: No, but I had some crutches in the basement that
- 21:58Speaker 6: tailor went and got. But a lot of times with
- 22:00Speaker 6: curses like you'll put the injured limb down and like assist,
- 22:04Speaker 6: I couldn't even put my foot on the ground. I
- 22:05Speaker 6: how to like hover. So I'm like doing like the
- 22:07Speaker 6: kid thing where you're like swinging yourself all around kids
- 22:11Speaker 6: toys everywhere, because I got my two kids and then
- 22:13Speaker 6: Nathan has three kids that are all under four, and
- 22:17Speaker 6: so there's toys everywhere. It was a minefield out there.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Yeah, to morrow, I.
- 22:21Speaker 6: Just go to the man cave and just put my
- 22:22Speaker 6: foot up and be like, hey, you guys, enjoy the trip.
- 22:23Speaker 6: I'll be in here just And then I find like
- 22:27Speaker 6: I'm a big like anti antibiotic guy, Like I don't
- 22:29Speaker 6: want to take antibiotic. I don't want to take like
- 22:32Speaker 6: talan or anything. I eventually gave in and I'm just
- 22:35Speaker 6: like I need it. So I'm like on a medrol
- 22:37Speaker 6: dose pack. Now I'm on a heuric acid. Yeah, I'm
- 22:41Speaker 6: on all of it, and it's gotten better to where
- 22:43Speaker 6: like literally, if it was Saturday, if I was feeling
- 22:46Speaker 6: the way I felt Saturday, I'd probably call on sick.
- 22:50Speaker 6: I like would not be able to make it into work.
- 22:52Speaker 6: That's how bad it was, like just sitting I have
- 22:55Speaker 6: to have it up. It was awful. It was awful, dude.
- 22:59Speaker 6: Still it is pretty bad.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Yeah, it's honestly, it's crazy thinking like any injury that
- 23:03Speaker 1: feels debilitating just feels like this is the worst thing that.
- 23:06Speaker 6: Possibly of the world. It's the end of the world.
- 23:09Speaker 1: Like even like say, I would you know, strain my
- 23:12Speaker 1: like ucl playing football and it's like in my elbow
- 23:15Speaker 1: and you like can't do a pull up, you like
- 23:17Speaker 1: can't really press against anything, and you just like, God,
- 23:19Speaker 1: this is the worst thing of all time. And it's like, well,
- 23:21Speaker 1: I would I rather have this? Or would I rather
- 23:23Speaker 1: have a shoulder rather have a knee a foot or
- 23:26Speaker 1: growing And anytime you're going through any of the injuries,
- 23:28Speaker 1: you're like, this is just the worst pain of it.
- 23:30Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah, everything hurts, and it's like your foot
- 23:36Speaker 6: starts to hurt. But then once you're in pain for
- 23:38Speaker 6: a long time, like everything else just starts to hurt. Also,
- 23:41Speaker 6: like you start to feel like achy almost. It was
- 23:43Speaker 6: a terrible weekend. It was Awful's and ps Man still battling,
- 23:48Speaker 6: still battling right now? Am I actually in a sweat
- 23:51Speaker 6: thinking about it right now? No, It's like a once
- 23:54Speaker 6: a week thing for me. Right now. I got to
- 23:55Speaker 6: reevaluate everything, bro, I gotta I gotta to re look.
- 24:00Speaker 1: At pretty good for the most part.
- 24:03Speaker 6: Yeah dude, but my yeah, I'm pretty good at like
- 24:06Speaker 6: my diet exercise. This last month though, I've kind of
- 24:10Speaker 6: like let go of the rains and I've kind of
- 24:12Speaker 6: only getting like two workouts a week. I'll like, I'll
- 24:15Speaker 6: see something in the corner, you know, Clump's wife brings
- 24:18Speaker 6: in those pies and I'm like, I'm not gonna eat that.
- 24:21Speaker 6: But then I get done with the two gambling shows
- 24:23Speaker 6: and Connor Hunger right now, so you have a slice.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Everybody in the shops talking about it tas so yeah, how.
- 24:28Speaker 6: Good it is. And I'm just thinking, I got to
- 24:30Speaker 6: I got just I got to get powerful about saying
- 24:34Speaker 6: no to myself, Like this is an internal battle.
- 24:37Speaker 2: We might need to make like a morning lift group
- 24:40Speaker 2: here at the shop. Get over it with the sword.
- 24:43Speaker 6: Next maybe, man, But it's also like where are we
- 24:46Speaker 6: gonna shower?
- 24:47Speaker 9: The issue is, boys, The issue is is just holiday
- 24:52Speaker 9: seasons kicking up the colder weather, and now that we
- 24:56Speaker 9: full back, it gets darker sooner.
- 24:59Speaker 1: Charle chocolate chip cookies. Last night we had chili and
- 25:02Speaker 1: of course I had two peanut butter sandwiches with it.
- 25:04Speaker 1: But it's just it's that time of year. Left over candy,
- 25:08Speaker 1: Like I've just been going to like rouse little pumpkin
- 25:11Speaker 1: little bucket and just one at a time, just every hour.
- 25:15Speaker 1: You just make your way over there and grab one.
- 25:17Speaker 1: You know, it's a little mini Eat this right now,
- 25:19Speaker 1: grab a second one, eat the first one real fast,
- 25:22Speaker 1: then walk out of the laundry room with one, like
- 25:24Speaker 1: I had to get a piece of candy thinking that
- 25:25Speaker 1: the first one didn't even count.
- 25:28Speaker 6: And that's so real. Do you all do the switchwitch
- 25:30Speaker 6: with real What the switch witch?
- 25:32Speaker 1: The switch witch? I don't think so it's.
- 25:34Speaker 6: A little it's a little put you guys on game.
- 25:36Speaker 6: When you have kids, they have their they trigger treat
- 25:39Speaker 6: and it's like, hey, if you want to do a
- 25:41Speaker 6: switch witch, if you put out some candy, the switches
- 25:42Speaker 6: will come a night and maybe bring you something. So
- 25:44Speaker 6: it's kind of like you get like a little twenty
- 25:46Speaker 6: dollars toy or something like that, and you switch out
- 25:49Speaker 6: the candy. So they make the decision, I'd rather have
- 25:50Speaker 6: a toy than candy, and so you just kind of
- 25:52Speaker 6: like get rid of that candy can.
- 25:53Speaker 1: Because I'm thinking I got to stay on top. I
- 25:55Speaker 1: can't let me read all this can I'm gon this
- 25:57Speaker 1: case and dude, yeah, yeah.
- 26:00Speaker 6: With Wind, we have had like Tealan saw this thing
- 26:05Speaker 6: like if you don't, if you don't let your kids
- 26:07Speaker 6: have like sugar for the first three years of their life,
- 26:09Speaker 6: like once they have sugar their bodies that they'll know
- 26:11Speaker 6: it's bad for them. And so the first candy, the
- 26:14Speaker 6: first piece of sweet Win ever had was from Will
- 26:16Speaker 6: during thingsgiving. Gave her a piece of crumble cake or
- 26:19Speaker 6: something like that. Not a big deal, but she was
- 26:22Speaker 6: like two and a half at that time, where it's
- 26:24Speaker 6: like we've gone long enough without giving Win sweets. Her
- 26:26Speaker 6: body is probably going to be like anti sweets. There's
- 26:29Speaker 6: probably not another child on this earth that is obsessed
- 26:32Speaker 6: with sweets more than when this, it's like crack to her, dude, maybe,
- 26:37Speaker 6: but she's eight, bro, and I'm like, when you got
- 26:39Speaker 6: to make a decision because I know it's bad for me,
- 26:40Speaker 6: but I just can't stop that. We have like legitimate conversations.
- 26:45Speaker 6: Make honey, like, you eat this candy, like it's going
- 26:48Speaker 6: to be so bad for She's like, I know, but
- 26:50Speaker 6: I just can't stop. She's an addict. Win is an addict, bro.
- 26:56Speaker 6: And it's like, dude, you got to stop eating this
- 26:58Speaker 6: candy because it's like she'll jump through hoops for a
- 27:01Speaker 6: piece of ice cream.
- 27:02Speaker 1: She'll just hoops you as a young as a young lad,
- 27:05Speaker 1: like that's just you chase them, sweet chase.
- 27:08Speaker 6: It's like the high bro. And we saw that mostly
- 27:11Speaker 6: at Disney World, where it's like early morning to get
- 27:15Speaker 6: the Disney worlders. We only had Friday and Saturday coming
- 27:17Speaker 6: back Sunday, and we get up super early on Friday
- 27:21Speaker 6: and it's like, well, Taylor and I are having coffee.
- 27:23Speaker 6: We kind of realized, like you give them a couple
- 27:26Speaker 6: pieces of shirt kind of resets their little resets their
- 27:29Speaker 6: energy a little bit.
- 27:30Speaker 5: So we're kind of.
- 27:30Speaker 6: Keeping them alive with candy, which is like the weirdest
- 27:33Speaker 6: thing ever. But the backfire the next three four days, Dude,
- 27:37Speaker 6: it's like kids coming down like they're itching, they're moving around,
- 27:40Speaker 6: ed you sure you don't got one more skittle in there?
- 27:42Speaker 6: For me, it's like we got to keep you away
- 27:44Speaker 6: from the skittles.
- 27:45Speaker 1: A little bit.
- 27:46Speaker 2: I feel like the way to get this happened to
- 27:48Speaker 2: me for a little like when when I was a kid.
- 27:50Speaker 2: I was like kind of like Win, once you get that,
- 27:53Speaker 2: you to that first dentist appointment and you got a
- 27:55Speaker 2: cavity or like you need a filling, Like the pain
- 27:58Speaker 2: from that will be like, Okay, I can't eat sweets
- 28:01Speaker 2: anymore because I do not want to go through that again.
- 28:04Speaker 1: A couple of weeks, maybe it's easy back in that sound.
- 28:08Speaker 6: You know, he's right, he's right, because we went in
- 28:11Speaker 6: and Win had a couple of feelings. She had to
- 28:12Speaker 6: get in and it was like I'm not having sweets.
- 28:15Speaker 1: I'm not doing that.
- 28:16Speaker 6: And it was probably two weeks exactly, and Win's back
- 28:19Speaker 6: in there. Like my pantry, I try to keep as
- 28:22Speaker 6: clean as possible, but we'll get like these like healthy
- 28:24Speaker 6: like chocolate things, and Tale is all about like lesser
- 28:27Speaker 6: of two evils kind of thing, like she's gonna have
- 28:29Speaker 6: the things in there probably be like the healthiest version
- 28:31Speaker 6: of the bad thing. My kids will sniff that ship out, dude,
- 28:34Speaker 6: And you know, sometimes I'll wake up a little later
- 28:36Speaker 6: than they are and that fucking pantries taken down, stepstools
- 28:40Speaker 6: are put up. These kids are there. They're innovative.
- 28:43Speaker 1: Bro.
- 28:43Speaker 6: The way that I'll put it at the top shelf,
- 28:45Speaker 6: they're fucking swinging, catching it, getting back. It's just crazy
- 28:49Speaker 6: what they'll go, the lengths they'll go to the lengths.
- 28:53Speaker 1: I respect it. I did too, but I was.
- 29:02Speaker 6: Yeah, bros tough, but yeah man.

- 31:29Speaker 6: Episode, Spookober is over. Now the tickle turkey lives. The
- 31:33Speaker 6: tickle turkey lives.
- 31:34Speaker 1: Yeah, explain the tickle turky.
- 31:36Speaker 6: So tickle Turkey. I kind of got from one Jack
- 31:39Speaker 6: Conklin and the movie ThanksKilling. Do you guys have you
- 31:42Speaker 6: seen the movie Thanks Killing?
- 31:43Speaker 4: Oh?
- 31:43Speaker 1: Is that? What is that? The turkey?
- 31:45Speaker 6: Yeah? Yeah, it's a low budget cult film or whatever.
- 31:49Speaker 6: But the tickle Turkey essentially is this, I will go
- 31:51Speaker 6: and I'll tickle my kids and every time tackle my
- 31:53Speaker 6: kids to go. And that's a tickle turkey. Tickle turkey
- 31:56Speaker 6: lives from November first to Thanksgiving. That's in the tickle
- 32:00Speaker 6: turkeys a lot. That's the that's the things killing turkey.
- 32:05Speaker 6: Funny ass movie, dude, the movie opens up with just
- 32:07Speaker 6: a nipple like it's the funniest, it's hilarious, but yeah,
- 32:13Speaker 6: the tickle Turkey's fun. He'll just kind of Jack Conklin
- 32:16Speaker 6: would do this after after Halloween. Jack would just go
- 32:20Speaker 6: in and like tickle other players at the locker room,
- 32:22Speaker 6: walk up behind him and tickle them. And then so
- 32:25Speaker 6: once I guess, I was like, bro, I gotta the
- 32:27Speaker 6: tickle Turkey's gotta be a thing in my household. So
- 32:30Speaker 6: now my kids every time around them, they're like they're
- 32:31Speaker 6: kind of doing this or like.
- 32:32Speaker 1: So the tickle turkey is just always active.
- 32:35Speaker 6: Tickle turkey is always active, can always get you. He's
- 32:37Speaker 6: not just gonna come out though when you want him to,
- 32:39Speaker 6: Like Willow will be like that, bring out the tickle turk.
- 32:41Speaker 6: I hate n't do that, but once she turns her back, boom.
- 32:43Speaker 6: Tickle turkey.
- 32:44Speaker 1: Is it like a thing though to where it's like
- 32:45Speaker 1: on uh, what's it called lepre con Day? Irish Day,
- 32:51Speaker 1: Saint Patrick's Day, Saint Patrick's Day, to where if you're
- 32:55Speaker 1: wearing green you don't get pinched.
- 32:57Speaker 6: No, didn't ever text you from the turkey turkey? If
- 33:02Speaker 6: you yeah, if you wear. I guess if you wear
- 33:04Speaker 6: a turkey, if you're wearing a turkey hat or a
- 33:06Speaker 6: turkey shirt, I guess you can't get you. That's a
- 33:07Speaker 6: fun little that's a fun wrinkle. But the tickle Turkey's
- 33:11Speaker 6: out from November first to Thanksgiving. The day Thanksgiving, I
- 33:14Speaker 6: told well, was like the turkey dies, we eat the
- 33:17Speaker 6: tickle turkey, and then it's Christmas. Okay, So yeah, tickle
- 33:21Speaker 6: Turkey's out. Boys, and that's for everybody in the shop too.
- 33:24Speaker 6: You can get tickle. Just know your boys can get
- 33:26Speaker 6: God around here. Huh, what are you going to say?
- 33:28Speaker 1: JP?
- 33:29Speaker 7: No, I have a like hilariously embarrassing story about similar
- 33:33Speaker 7: to the tickle turkey. We were at this like party
- 33:36Speaker 7: at one of our friends houses and there was this
- 33:38Speaker 7: hallway that a bunch of the people were lined up in.
- 33:40Speaker 7: Anytime someone walked through the hallway, they're tickling them tickle
- 33:43Speaker 7: turkey basically. So I'm like, I want to be a
- 33:46Speaker 7: part of this. This would be funny. And I don't
- 33:47Speaker 7: know if they were just scheming on me the whole time.
- 33:50Speaker 7: And I'm like kind of first in the order. And
- 33:53Speaker 7: this girl comes walking through that we're friends with, and
- 33:56Speaker 7: I go tickle her, and nobody else goes and does it,
- 33:59Speaker 7: and I'm like, any of usn't ticklish. So I'm just like, yeah,
- 34:07Speaker 7: I know her, but not like that close. I'm like,
- 34:09Speaker 7: I'm sorry. I mean you're like, yeah, she's like what
- 34:12Speaker 7: are you doing? Like do you have a at the time,
- 34:15Speaker 7: Like you have a girlfriend. I'm like, yeah, you make
- 34:17Speaker 7: any noise when you're trying to tickle her. I mean
- 34:20Speaker 7: like I don't really know off the top of my head,
- 34:22Speaker 7: just a silence. But man, I was so embarrassed. I
- 34:28Speaker 7: was like, I gotta leave. This is a prank.
- 34:32Speaker 1: Yeah, like what the fun? What are you doing?
- 34:35Speaker 6: How old are you when this happened?
- 34:36Speaker 1: This is like three years ago? Middle school? It was
- 34:43Speaker 1: so bad. Dude, you go from the armpits, where'd you go?
- 34:47Speaker 1: Side crazy?
- 34:50Speaker 6: You gotta go for the side to discomfort of people
- 34:53Speaker 6: being scared of the little hips, right, get a little
- 34:56Speaker 6: movement in them. The tickle turkey man the fun. You
- 35:00Speaker 6: should bring him to the Compton household, all right, ruising
- 35:06Speaker 6: for some.
- 35:06Speaker 7: Damn ye'll think he can make me dress up his fear.
- 35:11Speaker 6: Yeah, I'll tell you. He was in a bad position
- 35:13Speaker 6: in our office. Is Derek his back to that hallway,
- 35:16Speaker 6: like that ticket turkey is getting his ass.
- 35:20Speaker 1: He's got to wear a turkey.
- 35:21Speaker 4: When we were when I first started working here, Clump
- 35:24Speaker 4: wanted me to have that desk spot and for that reason,
- 35:28Speaker 4: like you were walking to a restaurant the old like
- 35:30Speaker 4: I have to have my back to the wall so
- 35:31Speaker 4: I can see everything. Yeah, that's how I felt about that.
- 35:33Speaker 4: I was like people walking down the hall and I
- 35:36Speaker 4: can't see him.
- 35:36Speaker 2: That would freak me out.
- 35:37Speaker 6: To this day if I go, if I'm at a restaurant,
- 35:40Speaker 6: I always prefer to have my back to the wall.
- 35:43Speaker 6: Like what am I going to do? Like some sort
- 35:44Speaker 6: of Seal Team six guy, Like I'm gonna protect everybody
- 35:47Speaker 6: in here. I'm just gonna getting got You know, you're
- 35:49Speaker 6: back to the rest of the Crowd's terrifying. Yeah, I
- 35:51Speaker 6: don't know how Derek gets any work done in the shop.
- 35:54Speaker 1: Yeah, and he's he's yeah, yeah, I never know what's
- 35:58Speaker 1: going on. Are your Christmas decorations up yet?
- 36:02Speaker 6: You know they are the force?
- 36:04Speaker 1: I not.
- 36:05Speaker 6: Christmas decorations are like the end, like Spootobra is already
- 36:08Speaker 6: down in my household, like all the decorations, Like we
- 36:11Speaker 6: had a crew of people come in November one. I'm
- 36:14Speaker 6: laying there on the couch, leg up, dude, just everybody,
- 36:18Speaker 6: ten fifteen guys just carrying shit. I'm looking at him like, please,
- 36:21Speaker 6: just don't even fucking make eye contact me in this
- 36:22Speaker 6: vulnerable state. But all this stuff is that lights are
- 36:25Speaker 6: up now. And I know, bro, I know this is
- 36:29Speaker 6: like a disgusting look to you guys, but I've just
- 36:31Speaker 6: lost that battle of my household. I don't I don't
- 36:33Speaker 6: wear the pants like Thanksgiving has already happened in Canada.
- 36:36Speaker 6: Talent's beating me down, like have it, take it. But yeah,
- 36:40Speaker 6: it's a winter wonderland. You want to drive past my house,
- 36:42Speaker 6: It's absolutely beautiful.
- 36:44Speaker 1: The upside of it, like if I had an optimistic
- 36:47Speaker 1: outside of like disgust that your Christmas decorations are already up,
- 36:50Speaker 1: it's just that you have the theme, like you have
- 36:53Speaker 1: the vibe that you just yearned for when Christmas time
- 36:56Speaker 1: dos come? Or is it that it's skin dark early
- 36:58Speaker 1: you got you know, lights are on living room. Just
- 37:01Speaker 1: the ambiance of Christmas is just so pure and good.
- 37:04Speaker 6: It definitely has a good because like the front side
- 37:07Speaker 6: of our house is all like white lights and then
- 37:09Speaker 6: the backs of our house is more colorful nineties vibe,
- 37:12Speaker 6: and outside of my master bedroom, like there's like a
- 37:15Speaker 6: bunch of little trees that are all like in colored lights,
- 37:17Speaker 6: And it does give you that regardless of it being
- 37:19Speaker 6: November third, when it's like you look at it and
- 37:22Speaker 6: you're like, yeah, it does give you that cozy feeling.
- 37:24Speaker 1: Yeah, Like if if like if I'm you and I
- 37:27Speaker 1: was battling and you're like trying to come to a
- 37:29Speaker 1: middle ground, it's we can do the interior of the house,
- 37:32Speaker 1: but the Christmas lights on the outside don't go up
- 37:34Speaker 1: until after Thanksgiving type of vibe. Because again it's like
- 37:36Speaker 1: you at least you're in the vibe of a feeling nice,
- 37:39Speaker 1: all warm and cozy with some lights and some decorations around.
- 37:42Speaker 1: To be fair to the public, like just an asen nine.
- 37:45Speaker 6: Yeah, but to be fair to tailing having that feeling,
- 37:49Speaker 6: like what other feeling you need to get between November
- 37:51Speaker 6: one and and Thanksgiving, Like it's kind of like a
- 37:54Speaker 6: dead spot because Thanksgiving is very much like a long
- 37:57Speaker 6: weekend type of vibe as opposed to like a cell
- 38:00Speaker 6: lebrate holiday throughout it like a whole month period, So
- 38:03Speaker 6: there is a level of like kind of cheating the
- 38:04Speaker 6: vibe a little bit for an extra long time because
- 38:07Speaker 6: it's not Christmas. Vibe is not one that kind of
- 38:09Speaker 6: dies off as you get farther and farther down. It
- 38:11Speaker 6: like you're kind of enjoying it more and more and
- 38:13Speaker 6: more as you kind of get up to Christmas. So
- 38:16Speaker 6: it's kind of nice. I've I've I've been to the
- 38:19Speaker 6: knee and I've kind of like it can't beat them,
- 38:21Speaker 6: joined them type of vibes. Yeah, yeah, don't know, don't
- 38:25Speaker 6: you do that?
- 38:25Speaker 1: You can't beat the Canadians, join them? That's what you
- 38:28Speaker 1: kind of.
- 38:28Speaker 6: You saw what happened this past weekend at the Canadians Dodgers.
- 38:33Speaker 6: Dodgers beat the the Boo Jays, and I Quinn was
- 38:37Speaker 6: texting me like, hey, we own hockey, you're about to
- 38:39Speaker 6: own baseball as well. It's a totally different game like MLB.
- 38:42Speaker 6: You have a couple of Canadian teams all good, but
- 38:44Speaker 6: that was nice for the Dodgers to take that one.
- 38:48Speaker 6: So I have that over my wife's family. It's become
- 38:50Speaker 6: a complete rivalry ever since the Four Nations tournament. Yeah,
- 38:54Speaker 6: where it's like they kind of they've been talking crazy
- 38:58Speaker 6: to me ever since that Four Nations game, and it's
- 39:00Speaker 6: it's nice to have one we go. I don't only
- 39:02Speaker 6: view this as one, but they kind of do. So
- 39:03Speaker 6: it's like, yeah, we got you guys.
- 39:05Speaker 1: See that is a fun that's a fun fam Like
- 39:07Speaker 1: for me, it's like I just got to wait and
- 39:08Speaker 1: see if pack y'all fights again. Yeah, it's not a
- 39:15Speaker 1: whole lot, but there is this tennis there's this tennis player. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 39:19Speaker 1: there is this tennis player.
- 39:20Speaker 6: Yeah we need uh but have you did you guys
- 39:22Speaker 6: watch that game? Game seven? Incredible? Like I was, I
- 39:27Speaker 6: had zero players to even watch that game. And then Nathan,
- 39:31Speaker 6: you know, he's a big baseball guy. I grew up
- 39:32Speaker 6: in l A. He's a Dodgers fan. But he's he's
- 39:35Speaker 6: the worst type of fan with the game with him
- 39:38Speaker 6: last year, it was his idea to leave. He's the
- 39:40Speaker 6: worst type of things.
- 39:41Speaker 1: Taylor was beating him up on the plane because he
- 39:43Speaker 1: flew back with us from New York when we came
- 39:45Speaker 1: from ESPN, because I was kind of asking him for
- 39:47Speaker 1: for whatever reason, I thought he was like a Michigan
- 39:49Speaker 1: State fan or we're talking for I don't watch any fun.
- 39:52Speaker 1: He's like I am all baseball. So he was fired
- 39:55Speaker 1: up for the World Series, but then Taylor was beating
- 39:56Speaker 1: him up. He's like, you got me killed for leaving
- 39:59Speaker 1: that world here his game last.
- 40:00Speaker 6: Year, because to me, it was like I checked the
- 40:01Speaker 6: box of being there. But I've never been, like since
- 40:03Speaker 6: I've been twelve years, I've never been like a base
- 40:05Speaker 6: I'm gonna watch baseball, but like going to a first
- 40:07Speaker 6: World Series game, this is awesome and it's so fitting
- 40:09Speaker 6: that Nathan's like, you're tired, right. I'm like I'm good.
- 40:12Speaker 6: He's like, you're pretty tired. We should go. It's like
- 40:14Speaker 6: all right, let's yeah, I'll go. And as soon as
- 40:17Speaker 6: we leave, like fireworks take off in the entire game.
- 40:19Speaker 6: That's when Freddie Freeman had to walk off Grand Slam.
- 40:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:22Speaker 6: So we get to this year, Dodgers are back in it.
- 40:24Speaker 6: That is Nathan Worksman's team, like he grew up going
- 40:27Speaker 6: to Dodgers games to have a whole They go to
- 40:29Speaker 6: this one spot that all Dodgers fans go to. They
- 40:31Speaker 6: get these like Philly cheese take type of sandwiches. I
- 40:33Speaker 6: did the whole experience. He's looking at me saying, I
- 40:36Speaker 6: hope Toronto wins I'm like, Bro, you grew up a
- 40:39Speaker 6: Dodgers fan. What are you talking about. He's like, well,
- 40:41Speaker 6: my team already won. It wouldn't be as fun for
- 40:43Speaker 6: us to get another One'm like, no, like you want
- 40:47Speaker 6: your team to win another one because how cool wuld
- 40:48Speaker 6: be that three? Pet Like, that's what it's about. It's
- 40:50Speaker 6: like you just want you just want to win them all.
- 40:52Speaker 6: And he was anti that anti and bro so he
- 40:57Speaker 6: was rooting for the Blue Jays. He's yeah, he's the
- 41:00Speaker 6: weirdest fan ever. And we we were watching the game
- 41:03Speaker 6: and it's the bottom of the ninth whatever, the Dodgers
- 41:06Speaker 6: score run to take it into extra innings. I kept
- 41:09Speaker 6: calling it over time. He was laughing at me about that.
- 41:11Speaker 6: He gets up, He's like, I had early flight tomorrow.
- 41:13Speaker 6: I'm gonna I'm gonna leave. I'm like, game seven, you're
- 41:18Speaker 6: a baseball fan, You're a team who you're rooting against.
- 41:21Speaker 6: Just caused the game to go into extra innings and
- 41:23Speaker 6: you're gonna go to bed. And he's like yes, he
- 41:27Speaker 6: left and bote that that game was incredible? Was it Yamamoto?
- 41:33Speaker 2: Who's the guy Yoshiniba Yamamoto?
- 41:37Speaker 6: Okay, that guy, dude, game six. This Yoshinido Mama Modo guy,
- 41:43Speaker 6: pitches ninety two pitches and plays an incredible game. They're
- 41:48Speaker 6: in Game seven and it's starting to get in this
- 41:51Speaker 6: like are they are the are the Toronto Blue Jay
- 41:53Speaker 6: is gonna run away with it? Or the Dodgers is
- 41:55Speaker 6: gonna come back? They get Yama Moto, who's just thrown
- 41:57Speaker 6: ninety two pitches the day prior, to come back in
- 42:00Speaker 6: and finish the game and pitches three innings and it
- 42:04Speaker 6: was incredible. Bro guys like five to eleven throwing like
- 42:08Speaker 6: after doing all those pitches, still throwing like ninety seven
- 42:11Speaker 6: ninety eight, like just watching the intricacies of like he's
- 42:15Speaker 6: down in the pitch count. Then he's getting guys to
- 42:17Speaker 6: chase wide, he's jamming guys in. It's like one of
- 42:20Speaker 6: the most fun games ever. And then this Rojas was
- 42:23Speaker 6: a Miguel Rojas in the ninth of the Yeah, the
- 42:26Speaker 6: ninth inning, top of the ninth, top of the ninth inning.
- 42:30Speaker 6: They're down one, no one's on base, Miguel Ross has
- 42:32Speaker 6: not had a hit, and all of the World Series
- 42:36Speaker 6: hits a home run and they're now tied up. Yamamoto
- 42:40Speaker 6: comes in three up, three down, gets him off. We're
- 42:42Speaker 6: now an extra innings, and then I think Yamamoto had
- 42:47Speaker 6: all had the Blue Jays had three guys on base
- 42:50Speaker 6: correct every first, second, and third, and they go broken
- 42:53Speaker 6: back because it comes off and goes back on. And
- 43:00Speaker 6: then Mookie Bets from shortstop hits it, gets a ground ball,
- 43:04Speaker 6: steps on second, wins the game by having a double play.
- 43:07Speaker 6: Like it was like probably the only time as I've
- 43:10Speaker 6: been like twelve years old, I'm watching a baseball game
- 43:12Speaker 6: like this, shit is unbelievable.
- 43:13Speaker 2: It was a sick game. But the Dodgers winning is
- 43:16Speaker 2: awful for baseball because.
- 43:18Speaker 5: Why is that because the super rich franchise.
- 43:21Speaker 2: Yeah, the biggest thing that's been going the highest paid. Yeah,
- 43:23Speaker 2: so show hey, like show Hay's contract alone is like
- 43:28Speaker 2: more than the entire Pittsburgh Pirates like payroll. Like, so
- 43:33Speaker 2: it's these teams, like the Dodgers can just afford to
- 43:36Speaker 2: pay all of this money to all of these players,
- 43:38Speaker 2: but it's like not even fair, Like the Pirates will
- 43:42Speaker 2: never win a World Series. All of these lower tier
- 43:44Speaker 2: teams will never win a World Series because they can't
- 43:46Speaker 2: afford all of these players. Like that's why you see
- 43:48Speaker 2: all of these really really good guys going to the Yankees,
- 43:51Speaker 2: going to the Dodgers, going to the Mets because they
- 43:53Speaker 2: can afford to like pay them and like get give
- 43:57Speaker 2: them all this money.
- 43:58Speaker 1: There's no cap, right, there's.
- 43:59Speaker 2: No cap, So that's what But like it's bad for
- 44:03Speaker 2: baseball in the sense of like this just continues to happen,
- 44:06Speaker 2: but it's good for baseball in the sense of, Okay,
- 44:10Speaker 2: this is proven, like that we may need a salary cap,
- 44:13Speaker 2: but it's insane because Bryce Harper or like earlier in
- 44:16Speaker 2: the season there was I saw that, Yeah, there was
- 44:18Speaker 2: a meeting about, hey, we're gonna have a salary cap,
- 44:20Speaker 2: and Bryce Harper went up and it was like, if
- 44:21Speaker 2: you're here to talk about a salary cap, get the
- 44:23Speaker 2: fuck out of here, because we do not we do
- 44:25Speaker 2: not want that. But it's like insane because it's just
- 44:28Speaker 2: imagine like the the biggest market teams in the NFL
- 44:32Speaker 2: always win, and like the Titans, they're the smallest media market,
- 44:36Speaker 2: have no chance to win whatsoever.
- 44:38Speaker 1: Is there for any baseball guys, Chef, you seem like
- 44:41Speaker 1: you're itching again in this conversation, Uh, for the baseball guys,
- 44:45Speaker 1: Is there a leverage play for the league to make
- 44:47Speaker 1: it a salary cap because it's it just sounds like
- 44:50Speaker 1: they just don't have They wouldn't have the leverage if.
- 44:52Speaker 6: You're if you're a player, you don't want a salary
- 44:54Speaker 6: if you're yeah, if you're If.
- 44:55Speaker 1: We're speaking for like, if this is going down in
- 44:58Speaker 1: the NFL, you'd want the biggest ours to be saying
- 45:00Speaker 1: the same thing, Bryce Harper.
- 45:02Speaker 6: Yeah, you want this conversation taking place in the NFL
- 45:04Speaker 6: where it was Kirk Cousins getting a guaranteed contract.
- 45:07Speaker 1: Right, you want your superstar guys like throwing their weight
- 45:11Speaker 1: around to get basically no salary cap. You just get
- 45:14Speaker 1: paid as much as you possibly can.
- 45:16Speaker 4: Yeah, So it's gonna look it's looking like that the
- 45:18Speaker 4: MLB and the Players Association could possibly go into lockout
- 45:21Speaker 4: and then it becomes basically the MLB will have a
- 45:24Speaker 4: lot of more leverage going. Hey, the Dodgers are.
- 45:29Speaker 1: Is that the man? Right there? A great guy to
- 45:31Speaker 1: come in on the conversation, what's up?
- 45:37Speaker 6: What's up?
- 45:38Speaker 1: Felas Before we get into Tony Vtello, we gotta finish
- 45:42Speaker 1: off the episode. There is a new Buffalo ranch, Shaws,
- 45:45Speaker 1: that has arrived at McDonald's McDonald's is now a sponsor
- 45:48Speaker 1: a bustle with the Boys Boys massive brand. And and
- 45:53Speaker 1: what was that? Did we hear a little? Did somebody too?
- 45:58Speaker 1: That must have been yeah, the Mickey D's. There's a
- 46:00Speaker 1: new buffalo ran sauce that has arrived at McDonald's and
- 46:03Speaker 1: it pairs perfectly with your snack wrap of mccrispy sandwich
- 46:08Speaker 1: or those new mccrispy strips. I will let sure them
- 46:11Speaker 1: speak to that in a second. It's got the tangy
- 46:13Speaker 1: zang of buffalo with the creamy cool of mild ranch.
- 46:16Speaker 1: It's mild and wild at the same time. It's a
- 46:19Speaker 1: sauce that balances itself and compliments our crispy chicken. Uh Fellas, Look,
- 46:24Speaker 1: the snack wrap jumps out at me. The McChicken or
- 46:27Speaker 1: the mccrispy chicken sandwich jumps out at me. Bangs in
- 46:30Speaker 1: this buffalo, the zesty, zangy, tangy buffalo sauce. Yeah, mild
- 46:34Speaker 1: and wild.
- 46:35Speaker 6: I'll tell you what I used to love to do
- 46:36Speaker 6: as a kid, and I still continue to love to
- 46:37Speaker 6: do now, is going to that little the regular cheeseburgers,
- 46:40Speaker 6: the two for nine to nine cents deal that it
- 46:42Speaker 6: used to be like the two cheeseburgers. I would get
- 46:44Speaker 6: max sauce on those things. This new little sauce we
- 46:46Speaker 6: got talking about it, I think I'm gonna find myself
- 46:48Speaker 6: in a drive through real soon getting those two cheeseburgers.
- 46:51Speaker 6: But go and put that zesty buffalo ranch on there.
- 46:52Speaker 6: You know what I'm saying.
- 46:53Speaker 1: Yeah, sure, you were just talking about the chicken strips
- 46:56Speaker 1: of McDonald's. I have yet to have the chicken strips.
- 46:59Speaker 8: I'm a big chicken Nuggies guys. I've always want to
- 47:02Speaker 8: make chicken nuggies, right, that's the staple. But these new
- 47:06Speaker 8: mac crispies they are really really good. I usually dip
- 47:10Speaker 8: them in honey mustard. I have yet to try this
- 47:13Speaker 8: new sauce. I know what I'm having for lunch.
- 47:16Speaker 1: Two day big sauce guys. Two day, big sauce guys
- 47:19Speaker 1: on the bus and a photo too. Yeah and there,
- 47:22Speaker 1: shirm dog. There's a new sauce in town at McDonald's,
- 47:25Speaker 1: the tangy, creamy buffalo ranch. Order now. And there is
- 47:29Speaker 1: this final bite segment that we're gonna dive into of
- 47:32Speaker 1: which something that we want people to be thinking about
- 47:36Speaker 1: as they're dipping their sauce and eating whatever little combination
- 47:39Speaker 1: they're gonna have with this buffalo tangy tangy, creamy buffalo rance.
- 47:43Speaker 1: Oh maybe a final take, maybe a take a thought,
- 47:47Speaker 1: something we want people to be thinking about going into
- 47:50Speaker 1: this football weekend.
- 47:52Speaker 6: I like that. Do you mind if I go first?
- 47:54Speaker 1: Go ahead?
- 47:55Speaker 6: Something off the top of my head right now that
- 47:56Speaker 6: we kind of talked about in the reaction show, I'm
- 47:58Speaker 6: gonna bring it over to the bus and intro of
- 48:00Speaker 6: the show is, let's talk about the NFC East for
- 48:02Speaker 6: a second. It's done. It's over. We might be in November,
- 48:06Speaker 6: but as far as I'm concerned, the Philadelphia Eagles are taking
- 48:09Speaker 6: that thing they run with it, it's over for the
- 48:10Speaker 6: rest of that whole entire division because they're just falling back,
- 48:13Speaker 6: back and back. So if we want to look at
- 48:15Speaker 6: playoff implications, I'm already good to go in. Not just
- 48:18Speaker 6: Pencil'm gonna pen in the Philadelphia Eagles in two. So
- 48:21Speaker 6: theF is you.
- 48:23Speaker 1: Want Dallas fans at tune in, Washington fans at tune in,
- 48:27Speaker 1: and Giants fans at tune in to be sad dipping
- 48:30Speaker 1: their mccrispy streets in this Buffalo tanky sauce right thinking
- 48:34Speaker 1: that this season is over for us.
- 48:36Speaker 6: I know what the old Golden Arches has provided to
- 48:39Speaker 6: this beautiful country for many, many years. And if you
- 48:42Speaker 6: can hear one thing, it's broken hearts and the broken
- 48:45Speaker 6: hearts of the Commanders, the Cowboys, and the Giants. Listen, Giants,
- 48:49Speaker 6: I think you've got nothing to be upset about. Like
- 48:51Speaker 6: you lost cam Skataboo, but Jackson Dart quarterback of the future,
- 48:55Speaker 6: day ball saved his job. Cowboys. Yeah, I can see
- 48:57Speaker 6: you guys getting sad because you have a per Bowl
- 49:00Speaker 6: caliber offense, but your defense is poop poo magoo. Now
- 49:03Speaker 6: you look over at the Washington Commanders and you just
- 49:05Speaker 6: dislocated your best court of your quarterback's elbow when you're
- 49:08Speaker 6: down thirty eight to seven. Those who have a lot
- 49:10Speaker 6: to be sad about. The Giants, you can go over,
- 49:12Speaker 6: hit that drive through, get that zesty Buffalo ranch, and
- 49:15Speaker 6: you're gonna feel all right about having the McChicken strips
- 49:17Speaker 6: whatre they called mccrispy strips.
- 49:20Speaker 1: And the Eagles too.
- 49:21Speaker 6: Grease the Poles, grease me up, send me to mcde's.
- 49:24Speaker 6: You know what I'm saying. Get you some of the
- 49:26Speaker 6: get you a little happy meal. You know what I'm saying.
- 49:28Speaker 6: I like it. I having fun with it. And you
- 49:32Speaker 6: know I was I was dating the Cowboys for a men.
- 49:34Speaker 6: I was in love with the Cowboys for a hot second.
- 49:36Speaker 6: But that flame burned bright. Now I'm kind of thinking
- 49:39Speaker 6: to myself, boys, it's time to back up. We got
- 49:40Speaker 6: other toxic relationship and just realize the Eagles are gonna
- 49:42Speaker 6: keep flying.
- 49:43Speaker 1: This new buffalo ranch that people are going to be
- 49:46Speaker 1: dipping into this week. I want Husker fans to think
- 49:50Speaker 1: about this. TJ. Latif Latif over three hundred all purpose,
- 49:57Speaker 1: over three hundred yards through the air, combined through the
- 50:00Speaker 1: air and on the ground the.
- 50:01Speaker 6: Air combined through the air.
- 50:02Speaker 1: Yeah, TJ. Latiff going out to U c L a
- 50:06Speaker 1: night game gonna be tough getting up after this emotional
- 50:09Speaker 1: loss to the USC Trojans. As you were in sad
- 50:12Speaker 1: Boys season thinking about what's t J. Latif gonna do
- 50:15Speaker 1: this weekend. I'm telling you right now it's over three
- 50:19Speaker 1: hundred yards.
- 50:20Speaker 6: It's so funny you say that, because do you know
- 50:22Speaker 6: what Latif is French for buffalo sauce, zesty buffalo ranch.
- 50:27Speaker 6: That is actually what it's French for yeah, I think
- 50:31Speaker 6: google that real quick, make sure, but I'm I I
- 50:33Speaker 6: took French in high school.
- 50:36Speaker 8: Yeah it's yeah, Buffalo rancho, creamy.
- 50:39Speaker 3: Buffalo ranch, Lati latif and when he does, ninety three
- 50:45Speaker 3: is alive and well, honey, nine and three has never died.
- 50:49Speaker 3: No fibula is gonna stop nine and three and nebrassic
- 50:51Speaker 3: corn Hoskers.
- 50:52Speaker 1: That's mine. Do you have, gentlemen, do you have any
- 50:55Speaker 1: back there? To find a bite going into the weekend.
- 50:57Speaker 2: As you're dipping into that creamy buffalo ranch sauce, just
- 51:01Speaker 2: think to yourself, real quick, could forty year old Joe
- 51:06Speaker 2: Flacco win the MVP VP? Just think about it as
- 51:11Speaker 2: you're tasting that sauce eating them at Crispy's. Could he think?
- 51:16Speaker 2: Could he win it? Something to think about being the conversation.
- 51:19Speaker 6: Being the conversation, Have a conversation, Ignore everything else that's
- 51:21Speaker 6: happening in the NFL world, then just focus on Flacco.
- 51:24Speaker 6: Joe cool seven last two games, Joe Flacco.
- 51:30Speaker 8: Mine is separate of football? Is that against the rules?
- 51:32Speaker 6: It feels like it is, but go ahead.
- 51:34Speaker 8: Insulated denim jackets are back. That's what the people are saying.
- 51:38Speaker 8: Really and and just as you're dipping, does somebody might.
- 51:41Speaker 1: Have insulated what are they insulated?
- 51:43Speaker 8: What denim jacket?
- 51:44Speaker 1: Insulated denim jacket on right now? Dipping?
- 51:47Speaker 8: Oh? Come on, and just think about it as you're dipping,
- 51:51Speaker 8: like there's we're not wearing enough denim right now. Denim's
- 51:55Speaker 8: like I think it's back.
- 51:58Speaker 6: I don't have any denim on right now. That's how
- 52:00Speaker 6: kind of naked I feel after you talking about that.
- 52:03Speaker 6: If there's an individual out there that is listening to this,
- 52:06Speaker 6: thinking I'm dipping in denhim right now, please tag us
- 52:09Speaker 6: in a photo. Tag us in a photos. We love
- 52:11Speaker 6: to see you dipping in denim. Yeah, you know what,
- 52:16Speaker 6: that's my favorite take. That is my favorite take. And
- 52:18Speaker 6: I think we need as Bustle with the Boys Mighty
- 52:20Speaker 6: to go to a mcdizzels set the tone for a
- 52:23Speaker 6: dipping in denim hashtag dipping in denim. See what we
- 52:26Speaker 6: can do?
- 52:27Speaker 1: Will you? Or just go you just we get a
- 52:29Speaker 1: photo together and we just drop at no caption and

- 52:40Speaker 6: do dipping and denim.
- 52:43Speaker 1: By the way, this new buffalo sauce available for a
- 52:46Speaker 1: limited time at participating McDonald's while supplies.
- 52:49Speaker 6: Are you serious?
- 52:49Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, I think it's going to be a hit.
- 52:53Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 52:53Speaker 1: Well, this is a sauce country.
- 52:54Speaker 6: Think of all the things that mcdizzel's has done back
- 52:57Speaker 6: in the day that has been hit over hit like
- 52:59Speaker 6: nostal But the McRib the mcflurry.
- 53:02Speaker 1: The smell of hot breakfast, oh, pancakes.
- 53:07Speaker 6: You open that thing up, dude, It's like, what this
- 53:09Speaker 6: is a fast food place.
- 53:10Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 53:11Speaker 6: It's fine dining out here, man, It's incredible syrup sauce.
- 53:17Speaker 1: Let me mcgriddles talk to you about mcgriddell.
- 53:23Speaker 6: Lemon know, but the mcgriddle.
- 53:24Speaker 1: I would have this, uh. It was basically a plus
- 53:28Speaker 1: hour in high school as a senior to where a
- 53:31Speaker 1: plus you could if you were gifted this luxury you
- 53:35Speaker 1: could go off campus and go to. For me, it
- 53:37Speaker 1: was middle school. I would go in shadow my eighth
- 53:40Speaker 1: grade football coach and his like health p class. I
- 53:42Speaker 1: don't even know because I never went to it. He
- 53:45Speaker 1: would just give me the sign, he give me what
- 53:46Speaker 1: I needed, and me and a couple of my boys,
- 53:49Speaker 1: we'd rip over to McDonald's and it'd be like be
- 53:52Speaker 1: our breakfast every morning. Second hour we'd pull in and
- 53:56Speaker 1: we talk about this cashier behind the register as he's
- 53:59Speaker 1: like rivals recruit, like he's like a five star. He
- 54:03Speaker 1: understood the game and the operation of McDonald's. We thought
- 54:06Speaker 1: he should own one one day because of how much
- 54:07Speaker 1: work this guy put in. But we get the uh,
- 54:10Speaker 1: the little breakfast burritos, the little.
- 54:12Speaker 6: Two for five, little chunks of sausage in there.
- 54:15Speaker 1: We'd get the meal with the mcgriddle and I would
- 54:17Speaker 1: unpack that thing like there's a like I was in
- 54:20Speaker 1: the dark and the candle was next to my nightstand
- 54:22Speaker 1: and I would be unpacking this mcgriddle. I pick it up.
- 54:25Speaker 1: We'd have this four play we'd do with it. I'd
- 54:28Speaker 1: smell it. I just I'd take the entire environment in
- 54:32Speaker 1: before I took a bout of the mcgriddle and taking
- 54:34Speaker 1: them buy that mcgriddle. I don't know if you can
- 54:35Speaker 1: hear my boys right now, but my mother's watering.
- 54:38Speaker 6: And Fawcet talking to a Fawcet right now.
- 54:41Speaker 1: We would throw roast sparks in and just enjoy a
- 54:44Speaker 1: good No. I was a junior senior in high school.
- 54:49Speaker 6: Okay, okay, I thought you said something about middle school earlier.
- 54:55Speaker 1: That was my football coach, and we'd enjoy every day.
- 54:58Speaker 1: Second hour, it'd be where are we going? We know
- 55:01Speaker 1: we're going. That's a stupid questions throw up? What is it?
- 55:06Speaker 1: Stone sour? Looking at you through the glass. I'm looking
- 55:10Speaker 1: at you through the glass. I don't know how much
- 55:13Speaker 1: time has passed. Oh god, it feels like forever. No
- 55:18Speaker 1: one never tells you that forever feels like home. Sitting
- 55:22Speaker 1: alone inside you're how do you feel? How do you
- 55:29Speaker 1: do so much? The question?
- 55:32Speaker 6: Yeah, did I know that one?
- 55:34Speaker 1: Actually?
- 55:35Speaker 6: Do you know that one? I just don't know that one.
- 55:36Speaker 1: Throw that tune on or to be hindered. Touched like
- 55:38Speaker 1: an angel, Touch like an angel, kiss like an angel,
- 55:43Speaker 1: lips of an angel.
- 55:44Speaker 5: Hey you, why are you calling me so late?
- 55:50Speaker 1: It's kind of hard to talk right now. Those would
- 55:55Speaker 1: be the bangers. You guys just took me back to
- 55:56Speaker 1: a moment.
- 55:57Speaker 6: Girls in sometimes I wish you was you. Yes, man,
- 56:05Speaker 6: never really moved on.
- 56:09Speaker 1: That was good. That was really good.
- 56:13Speaker 6: You want to hear saying my name is sounds so sweet?
- 56:19Speaker 1: People tuned in, they're like, God, we can't wait to
- 56:21Speaker 1: listen to Tony Vtello.
- 56:23Speaker 6: Yeah, but then I know they start dipping in down them.
- 56:25Speaker 6: That's what they didn't know about, dude. Can I just
- 56:27Speaker 6: give you I know, we'll just told a cute little story.
- 56:29Speaker 6: Can I just give you mine real quick? Young three
- 56:31Speaker 6: four year old one, all right, just freshly into Scottsdale, Arizona.
- 56:34Speaker 6: My father he worked late hours, He worked, he worked
- 56:37Speaker 6: early mornings as well. But every Saturday, your young till
- 56:40Speaker 6: of one would get up at the crack ass of
- 56:42Speaker 6: dawn around five thirty six am, and right around the
- 56:45Speaker 6: corner from our house was what i'm mcdiesels. And my
- 56:48Speaker 6: dad would take me across the one on one Papa
- 56:50Speaker 6: sitting at mcdizzels. Give me a couple of them pancakes,
- 56:53Speaker 6: couple of them breakfast briers. I don't evenlieve the mgriddle
- 56:55Speaker 6: wasn't even a thing at this time, all right, we're
- 56:57Speaker 6: talking about nineties babies. And I would sit there and
- 57:00Speaker 6: my dad would read the morning newspaper with a McDonald's
- 57:03Speaker 6: orange juice while I ripped apart that ballpet alone. Because
- 57:08Speaker 6: ain't no kid got the luxury I did on a
- 57:11Speaker 6: Saturday Morning that my father gave to me when I
- 57:14Speaker 6: was just a young buck man. So shout out mcdee's

- 1:00:17Speaker 5: lot of blood, sweat and tears with that recruiting class.
- 1:00:20Speaker 5: That's uh, that's there now and I guess coming in too.
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: God, So on this conversation, what were you going to ask.
- 1:00:26Speaker 5: What was the consensus on those?
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: Okay, so I'm not a massive like baseball guy, like
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: I'll watch the Cardinals if they go to the playoffs
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: and stuff and get fired up with everybody else. But
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: they're sitting there breaking down the World Series game. I
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: caught until they went the extra innings and then that's
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: when I went home because Nebraska just lost the USC
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: So I need to go home and go to bed
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: because I was miserable. But Mitch is saying, like l
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: A winning is bad for baseball because of how much
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: money that they have to afford the team.
- 1:00:54Speaker 6: I mean, I think it's great to have you put
- 1:00:56Speaker 6: that mic a little closer. Sorry, you just get thrown
- 1:00:58Speaker 6: in the fire right there.
- 1:00:59Speaker 5: And right I got gifts. Anything I say about the
- 1:01:09Speaker 5: Dodgers is certainly going to be of interest in San Francisco.
- 1:01:12Speaker 5: But no, this is a pretty bad ass setup. I
- 1:01:14Speaker 5: appreciate you all having me. And I think, you know,
- 1:01:17Speaker 5: whether it was the Yankees back in the day with
- 1:01:19Speaker 5: baseball or it's achieved some football, I think it's good
- 1:01:21Speaker 5: for sports in general and the sport that's in specific
- 1:01:24Speaker 5: to have kind of a target or a standard that's set.
- 1:01:28Speaker 5: And it's college now, too, like it or not. Money talks,
- 1:01:32Speaker 5: and it's going to be a big part of it.
- 1:01:34Speaker 5: But you can't just buy your way to a championship.
- 1:01:36Speaker 5: There's still got to be the right people in place,
- 1:01:38Speaker 5: and then eventually to those people gotta, you know, make
- 1:01:41Speaker 5: the place. And I'm sure you guys were diagnosing that game.
- 1:01:44Speaker 5: There were a million different plays that could have went
- 1:01:46Speaker 5: one way or the other. And uh and then you
- 1:01:49Speaker 5: get stories too of people rising up one one pitch
- 1:01:51Speaker 5: it could have went the other way. And now you
- 1:01:52Speaker 5: got the Blue Jays is you know, the Brewers were
- 1:01:55Speaker 5: kind of trying to do this, the little engine that could.
- 1:01:57Speaker 5: And obviously those those teams got stud players too. But
- 1:02:02Speaker 5: it's fun to cheer for the underdog, and then it's
- 1:02:04Speaker 5: also it's good to have that you know, enemy number
- 1:02:07Speaker 5: one or you know Americans, Uh, I think are hard
- 1:02:11Speaker 5: workers overall, but it's a lot easier to it's a
- 1:02:13Speaker 5: little lazy and a lot easier to cheer for who
- 1:02:15Speaker 5: the best is. Yeah, you know, so there's always going
- 1:02:18Speaker 5: to be people that pick a side. I think, you
- 1:02:21Speaker 5: know it. I'm not I'm not at Tennessee anymore, so
- 1:02:24Speaker 5: I don't say it arrogantly, but our twenty two baseball
- 1:02:27Speaker 5: team was one that a lot of people just picked
- 1:02:30Speaker 5: a side. They either hated them or they liked them.
- 1:02:32Speaker 5: And I think overall it was good for college baseball.
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: Because you're getting to join up with who is the
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: psycho that has other celebrations.
- 1:02:40Speaker 6: Drew Gilbert, who, Yeah, psycho loves being choked from the.
- 1:02:47Speaker 5: That could be diagnosed a lot of different ways.
- 1:02:49Speaker 6: Yeah, there's gonna be a therapist in the back end
- 1:02:52Speaker 6: of that career at some point. Humping the slapping the side.
- 1:02:57Speaker 6: Some dudes are just walking up to him joking. He's
- 1:02:59Speaker 6: just love it, like this is the type of cat
- 1:03:01Speaker 6: you want around.
- 1:03:02Speaker 5: Yeah, no doubt. It'll be a good bridge for me.
- 1:03:05Speaker 5: Obviously I'll be learning a lot on the fly, But
- 1:03:08Speaker 5: to have someone like that in your clubhouse, no matter
- 1:03:11Speaker 5: where you're at you constantly have energy, and our sport
- 1:03:14Speaker 5: has a bigger sample size than any other, so it's
- 1:03:17Speaker 5: very repetitive. And if it's boring or there's lack of personality,
- 1:03:22Speaker 5: it's not going to be fun to come to work
- 1:03:24Speaker 5: come August or later in the season.
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: Is that something too, Like when you were with Tennessee,
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: it's like you guys did have kind of this bad
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: boy image. But just allowing your players to like be themselves,
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: to kind of keep that energy during all those monotonous, repetitive.
- 1:03:37Speaker 5: Days, I think so. I mean, I think, now you've.
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: Got one hundred and sixty two games, you gotta do it.
- 1:03:40Speaker 5: Yeah, it'll be different, that's for sure. And during the
- 1:03:43Speaker 5: press conference, the first question out of the shoot was
- 1:03:45Speaker 5: reminding me that I not only not in the big
- 1:03:47Speaker 5: leagues as a player, wasn't even close, but haven't been
- 1:03:50Speaker 5: in pro ball. So I don't know what I don't know,
- 1:03:53Speaker 5: But yeah, every day for us in the fall and
- 1:03:56Speaker 5: in the spring in college was a new day, and
- 1:03:58Speaker 5: you try and some are better or more entertaining than others,
- 1:04:02Speaker 5: but it's a blank slate and you try and make
- 1:04:03Speaker 5: it something fun and something memorable, and you know there's
- 1:04:07Speaker 5: nothing more fun and memorable than winning.
- 1:04:09Speaker 6: Yeah, how did the conversation? How did this job even happen?
- 1:04:12Speaker 4: Right?
- 1:04:12Speaker 6: Because you're this is the first head coach of a
- 1:04:14Speaker 6: college football team, a college football college baseball team to
- 1:04:17Speaker 6: become a manager at MLB team?
- 1:04:18Speaker 3: Is that?
- 1:04:19Speaker 6: Am I crrect in saying that?
- 1:04:19Speaker 5: Yes?
- 1:04:20Speaker 6: And so how did this conversation start? Your agent call?
- 1:04:23Speaker 6: You say, hey, by the way, the Giants are looking
- 1:04:25Speaker 6: at you, like, explain to me the process.
- 1:04:27Speaker 5: Yeah, it was a little bit. It was organic, and
- 1:04:30Speaker 5: if you really reflect on it was kind of drawn
- 1:04:31Speaker 5: out because the conversations have always gone on with college
- 1:04:35Speaker 5: coaches and big league teams, especially in the summer. And
- 1:04:40Speaker 5: you know, I remember taking a call on our guy,
- 1:04:41Speaker 5: Gavin Keelan. He was a second basement shortstop for us.
- 1:04:44Speaker 5: The Giants took him first overall, one of our best
- 1:04:47Speaker 5: players this last year. So there was a lot of
- 1:04:49Speaker 5: conversations not just about him, but like, what's going on
- 1:04:53Speaker 5: with our program? How do you guys like to do things?
- 1:04:55Speaker 5: Just idea sharing? And then with Drew Gilbert also came
- 1:04:59Speaker 5: over Blake Tidwell, one of our pitchers. They were both
- 1:05:02Speaker 5: involved in that trade. So, hey, what can you tell
- 1:05:04Speaker 5: us about these guys, and so with those conversations, a
- 1:05:08Speaker 5: little bit of a co op started there. And then
- 1:05:12Speaker 5: you know, I don't know who gets full credit. I mean,
- 1:05:15Speaker 5: Zach the jam buster is obviously you know, in charge
- 1:05:18Speaker 5: as well. Somewhere along the line, someone floated the idea
- 1:05:22Speaker 5: of basically trying something new, and San Francisco is about
- 1:05:26Speaker 5: as innovative. I mean there's AI stuff everywhere, buildings and
- 1:05:30Speaker 5: corporations and so just an innovative idea, and I feel
- 1:05:35Speaker 5: blessed to be the guy, but I'm also the guinea pig.
- 1:05:40Speaker 5: We'll see how it goes.
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: I'm sure it's gonna be hard to just hammer your ego,
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: but what do you think it was for San Francisco?
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: And the things that you're doing are the things that
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: they were hearing that dove deeper into getting you to
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: San Francisco.
- 1:05:54Speaker 5: I think, And it's easy to be humble because I
- 1:05:56Speaker 5: think it was more the concept. And so I was
- 1:06:00Speaker 5: a guy who maybe fit that profile. So we're going
- 1:06:03Speaker 5: through that now with trying to hire a coaching staff.
- 1:06:05Speaker 5: Is what's the profile we want and then pick out
- 1:06:08Speaker 5: of a group of guys that maybe fits that profile.
- 1:06:10Speaker 5: And it was it was something new. Pat Murphy has
- 1:06:14Speaker 5: been looked at. I think, I mean, I don't get
- 1:06:15Speaker 5: on social media a lot, but Pat Murphy is a
- 1:06:18Speaker 5: former college coach at Notre Dame at Arizona State, and
- 1:06:21Speaker 5: now he leads the Brewers to, if I'm not mistaken,
- 1:06:24Speaker 5: the best record in MLB baseball this year, and he's
- 1:06:28Speaker 5: kind of got that more. I don't want to say
- 1:06:31Speaker 5: it's not really about college versus pro ball, but just
- 1:06:33Speaker 5: a little more of the old school coach mentality when
- 1:06:37Speaker 5: coaching his team. You know, when we grew up, like
- 1:06:40Speaker 5: you knew Bobby Bobby Cox, and I could get Whitey
- 1:06:43Speaker 5: Herzog where I grew up in Saint Louis, Like he
- 1:06:46Speaker 5: was a manager that everybody knew and there was a
- 1:06:48Speaker 5: certain approach to it where his teams all kind of
- 1:06:51Speaker 5: have the same culture. And I think baseball swinging back
- 1:06:54Speaker 5: a little bit towards that coach deal as opposed to
- 1:06:57Speaker 5: the analytic guy in the office.
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: This, Yeah, is it like that old school? Is it
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: like old school too? Kind of mix with the younger,
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: like a younger swag, you know what I mean, Like
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: I would say, you're like a young You're like a
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: young Thundercat kind of coming up into this situation.
- 1:07:13Speaker 5: I think energy. I think when you're around guys like
- 1:07:15Speaker 5: Drew and then our fan base, like a lot of
- 1:07:18Speaker 5: times are the fans at Tennessee are about as good
- 1:07:20Speaker 5: as it gets, and so when they come up with
- 1:07:22Speaker 5: an idea, whether it was yours or not, you're kind
- 1:07:25Speaker 5: of if you're wearing orange, you're involved in it. So
- 1:07:28Speaker 5: I think people think I got a lot more swagger
- 1:07:30Speaker 5: or confidence than I truly do. I mean, if I
- 1:07:32Speaker 5: was more confident, I would have been a better fricking player,
- 1:07:35Speaker 5: but I was, But I'm I'm fortunate to be in
- 1:07:37Speaker 5: the dugout with guys like that, and so I don't
- 1:07:40Speaker 5: know that it's more swagger. I think naturally what I
- 1:07:42Speaker 5: do have is energy. Like at the field, it just is,
- 1:07:47Speaker 5: it's a vibe, it's fun to be there, and uh
- 1:07:50Speaker 5: so I think it's more of an energy thing. And again,
- 1:07:52Speaker 5: winning will bring about swagger more than anything, so hopefully
- 1:07:55Speaker 5: that's the case. There's there's some good players on the roster,
- 1:07:58Speaker 5: but I think energy is a part of it.
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: Yeah, just a Missouri boy doing it, big man doing it.
- 1:08:05Speaker 6: How much time have you spent in San Francisco.
- 1:08:06Speaker 5: So far, it was really three days with the press
- 1:08:09Speaker 5: conference and and again trying to hire some staff and
- 1:08:12Speaker 5: things like that. But when I was younger, I played
- 1:08:15Speaker 5: college ball in a summer league out in Salinas, California.
- 1:08:18Speaker 5: Small town, great people, just south of San Jose. And
- 1:08:22Speaker 5: a guy that played for my dad, Bill Miller. If
- 1:08:25Speaker 5: you've watched uh the specials on the Red Sox coming
- 1:08:29Speaker 5: back from three to zero against the Yankees, he's actually
- 1:08:31Speaker 5: the guy that gets a hit off Mariano Rivera to
- 1:08:34Speaker 5: start that the first comeback game and then ultimately they win.
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:08:38Speaker 5: Bill was with the Giants, so we'd go watch and play,
- 1:08:40Speaker 5: get free tickets, and you're in what I thought was
- 1:08:43Speaker 5: the coolest park I'd ever been in, and you get
- 1:08:45Speaker 5: to explore the city. And fortunately Twitter didn't exist then
- 1:08:49Speaker 5: and I didn't have a job, so it's a little bit,
- 1:08:51Speaker 5: a little bit more free. Reign that's a little bit
- 1:08:53Speaker 5: more free. Yeah, it's a pretty cool area.
- 1:08:55Speaker 6: So now what's process for you? You are you selling?
- 1:08:58Speaker 6: Are you keeping a place here in Nashville?
- 1:09:00Speaker 5: Definitely in Nashville, for sure. This place is phenomenal, whether
- 1:09:04Speaker 5: it's you know, just running into you guys, like at
- 1:09:06Speaker 5: the restaurant or the grocery store. I'm sure you get
- 1:09:09Speaker 5: bothered everywhere, so sorry if I bother you guys too,
- 1:09:11Speaker 5: but run into you guys. The connection with country music
- 1:09:14Speaker 5: some friends I've formed. You're in the middle of the country,
- 1:09:18Speaker 5: so both coasts are kind of accessible. This is just
- 1:09:21Speaker 5: a phenomenal place. So yeah, definitely looking forward to sticking
- 1:09:25Speaker 5: to a place here and probably even the fans were
- 1:09:28Speaker 5: awesome to me at the football game Saturday, So as
- 1:09:30Speaker 5: long as that continues, I'd like to still be in
- 1:09:32Speaker 5: Knoxville a little bit. I mean, like I said, I
- 1:09:35Speaker 5: mean the other coaches had a lot to do with it,
- 1:09:37Speaker 5: but for the next three or four years, I'm going
- 1:09:38Speaker 5: to be pretty closely tied to some of those players.
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: Yeah. What are the biggest differences in being like the
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: head coach of a college baseball team and then being
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: a manager in the MLB.
- 1:09:47Speaker 5: I think just that recruiting you can have a voice,
- 1:09:50Speaker 5: maybe with trades or free agency, and I think that's,
- 1:09:54Speaker 5: you know, something that pro players look at as what
- 1:09:57Speaker 5: park do I want to play in, what city I
- 1:09:59Speaker 5: want to live in, what coach So it's not like
- 1:10:02Speaker 5: recruiting completely goes away, but you're not in charge of
- 1:10:05Speaker 5: your roster anymore, which hell, free up some more time
- 1:10:09Speaker 5: to go to UFC or you know, you know whatever
- 1:10:11Speaker 5: it might be. Maybe, but then to the amount of
- 1:10:14Speaker 5: sample size. And then the kids you work with in
- 1:10:17Speaker 5: college are so impressionable they'll latch onto about anything you'll
- 1:10:22Speaker 5: give them. And I haven't again what, I don't know,
- 1:10:25Speaker 5: what I don't know, but I assume a thirty five
- 1:10:28Speaker 5: year old that's in the big leagues for a while,
- 1:10:29Speaker 5: he's he's pretty much got his system figured out, and
- 1:10:32Speaker 5: so it'll be a little bit different of a co
- 1:10:34Speaker 5: Oper relationship there.
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:10:36Speaker 6: With when you got the news that you're going to
- 1:10:38Speaker 6: be the next Giants manager, I'm gonna have a hard
- 1:10:41Speaker 6: time not saying head coach. How do you tell the team,
- 1:10:45Speaker 6: the Tennessee team.
- 1:10:46Speaker 5: Yeah, no, my my non friends or non baseball friends
- 1:10:51Speaker 5: are all like manager, Like, are you managing the title manager? Skipper?
- 1:10:58Speaker 5: You know, our pitching coach, Frank Anderson wud always call
- 1:11:00Speaker 5: me skipper, And it's kind of I don't know, I
- 1:11:01Speaker 5: kind of like that concept. So whatever it is, you're
- 1:11:04Speaker 5: serving that role of writing out the lineup, you know,
- 1:11:08Speaker 5: So it's interesting I get with recruiting, you have to
- 1:11:12Speaker 5: respond to every email and every text possible. But I
- 1:11:14Speaker 5: had to give up on my phone, so I apologize
- 1:11:16Speaker 5: to everybody. And one of the first texts was nice
- 1:11:21Speaker 5: but also sarcastic. I think from you. It was basically
- 1:11:23Speaker 5: like I miss you and love you or something I
- 1:11:24Speaker 5: don't mean to put words.
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: I think I said i'll miss you. I sent you
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: when it was starting to be like, hey, they're closing
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: in on a deal. Yeah, I sent him the link
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: from Twitter and just put I'll miss you forever.
- 1:11:33Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, So sorry, it was a little aggressive,
- 1:11:38Speaker 5: But I bring that up just because how this thing
- 1:11:41Speaker 5: broke was very unconventional, and it's the day and age
- 1:11:44Speaker 5: we live in. We were not we were not even
- 1:11:48Speaker 5: at a point where I was going to make a decision,
- 1:11:50Speaker 5: and this news broke on a football Saturday in the
- 1:11:53Speaker 5: middle of one of our scrimmages that I was going
- 1:11:56Speaker 5: to do this, and our assistants were like, you know,
- 1:12:00Speaker 5: I had kind of kept any of the conversations out
- 1:12:04Speaker 5: of the locker room because it can only be a distraction,
- 1:12:06Speaker 5: especially with recruiting, and now if it was going to
- 1:12:09Speaker 5: get to a point where this is something I really
- 1:12:11Speaker 5: got to decide on I was gonna involve everybody. Well
- 1:12:14Speaker 5: that all got skipped over by a tweet or what again.
- 1:12:17Speaker 5: I'm not on there, but I think, god, you know
- 1:12:20Speaker 5: Ken Rosenthal or somebody. And I've had a couple of
- 1:12:23Speaker 5: people apologize to me like, hey, I just got a
- 1:12:25Speaker 5: job to do. They get word that talks are at
- 1:12:27Speaker 5: least serious, and now all of a sudden, it's like
- 1:12:30Speaker 5: you're doing it. And so I got these texts on Saturday,
- 1:12:33Speaker 5: like I don't know if it's true or good luck,
- 1:12:34Speaker 5: and I'm like I don't even know how to respond.
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: So that the initial reaction is you're you're probably pissed off.
- 1:12:40Speaker 5: Yeah I was, so I was mine.
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: I'm thinking like if if this, if this profile is
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: posting about it, it seems like this is gonna happen.
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: First manager, it's like congratulates like, hey, I'm gonna miss
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: you forever. But now that makes sense. On the no response,
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: you're probably like, who in the fuck is leaking this stuff?
- 1:12:58Speaker 5: Well, I was trying to watch Alabama Tennessee and I'd
- 1:13:02Speaker 5: thought about going to the game with a donor after
- 1:13:04Speaker 5: our scrimmage, and when this popped, is like, well, I'm
- 1:13:07Speaker 5: not going anywhere, And I just sat and was watching
- 1:13:10Speaker 5: the game and it's on the ticker, and I even
- 1:13:13Speaker 5: kind of quit watching the game a little bit to
- 1:13:14Speaker 5: be honest with you, and I just for the night
- 1:13:17Speaker 5: kind of shut it down. And then the next day
- 1:13:21Speaker 5: some things picked up. Ironically, it ended up being instead
- 1:13:25Speaker 5: of one conversation with the team and being like this
- 1:13:28Speaker 5: sucks and crying and everything, it was a three parter
- 1:13:32Speaker 5: and it gave those guys time to share their thoughts
- 1:13:35Speaker 5: on it a little bit with me, including our coaching staff,
- 1:13:38Speaker 5: And I mean, this is a tough setting to break
- 1:13:41Speaker 5: down and cry, so I won't do it.
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: Here, but.
- 1:13:46Speaker 5: All emotions are welcome here, like I will forever be
- 1:13:50Speaker 5: grateful the way those kids texted me, talked to me
- 1:13:55Speaker 5: in person, and then the way the coaches basically said
- 1:13:58Speaker 5: do what you gotta do, and that really opened up
- 1:14:01Speaker 5: the freedom to think about it selfishly, just like what
- 1:14:04Speaker 5: do I want to do as opposed to how is
- 1:14:07Speaker 5: this going to impact other people?
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: Yeah, so wait on tears.
- 1:14:14Speaker 5: Trying to go Barbara Walters, it.
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: Is very hard. I'm assuming being in your spot, even
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: as a player, Like if I'm a player on your team,
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: and I absolutely love you. It's like when coach Eckler
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: left Nebraska, he recruited me there yea, and whenever he
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: left to go be like a co defensive coordinator or
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: something in Indiana. And he's kind of telling the linebacker
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: room after practice around like the thirty yard line, like
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: we're all breaking down because you're like, fuck man, a
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: part of you comes to a place for a staff
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: or for a guy, and you're galvanizing around this this roster.
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: So I can only assume how hard that was on
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: trying to be like you don't feel like you have
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: the freedom to think selfishly. You have so many people involved,
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: some of them aren't tipped off. Now they're finding out
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: on the internet. How do I even approach this conversation
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: because I know there's gonna be broken hearts. It's broke.
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: I'm assuming you're broken heart of it.
- 1:14:58Speaker 6: It's just it's tough, and you're sitting in a situation
- 1:15:01Speaker 6: where you haven't made the decision yet and it seems
- 1:15:03Speaker 6: like the decision has been made for you, yeah, publicly,
- 1:15:06Speaker 6: and now you have to go put out what you're
- 1:15:07Speaker 6: assuming is a bunch of fires and you're met with
- 1:15:09Speaker 6: like it seems like empathy and love.
- 1:15:10Speaker 5: Yeah, no, it affected things greatly, and at the end
- 1:15:14Speaker 5: of the day, it was a difficult decision. And if
- 1:15:16Speaker 5: you know, props to any college coach out there. Coach
- 1:15:19Speaker 5: Eckler's a stud and back at Nebraska now. But when
- 1:15:21Speaker 5: you switch in college, you don't get to breathe for
- 1:15:25Speaker 5: a year minimum, just because of the nature of the turnover.
- 1:15:28Speaker 5: And now I'm in this weird stage where it's not
- 1:15:30Speaker 5: like we're hiring a staff. There's work to be done,
- 1:15:32Speaker 5: press conference, all that, but it's not that drinking from
- 1:15:35Speaker 5: a fire hose that you have, so in a bad way,
- 1:15:38Speaker 5: it's freed up a lot of time to just reflect
- 1:15:40Speaker 5: on those relationships and things like that. And it's it's tough,
- 1:15:43Speaker 5: but you know, staying in motion is a good thing.
- 1:15:47Speaker 5: You guys are doing what you're doing because you guys
- 1:15:49Speaker 5: are constantly kind of pushing the envelope. And shoot, Dana
- 1:15:53Speaker 5: White did what he did when no one else was
- 1:15:55Speaker 5: doing anything active. He got active and now he's reaping
- 1:15:59Speaker 5: the benefits of it. And I don't know that the
- 1:16:01Speaker 5: sport would be that popular if he didn't push the
- 1:16:03Speaker 5: envelope during COVID or during a time where people weren't
- 1:16:06Speaker 5: in motion. So hopefully, who knows how this thing will go,
- 1:16:10Speaker 5: But I think staying in motion is healthy and and
- 1:16:13Speaker 5: hopefully it'll benefit me. Again, kind of a selfish decision,
- 1:16:16Speaker 5: But Tennessee, Tennessee will be all right. There's some players
- 1:16:19Speaker 5: in that dugout the next few years, so future Giants. Yeah,
- 1:16:22Speaker 5: I'm all for that.
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: We got.
- 1:16:24Speaker 5: That's gonna be a touchy sun.
- 1:16:25Speaker 6: I bet that's gonna be hard for you too, because
- 1:16:27Speaker 6: are you now as a manager?
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: Are you?
- 1:16:29Speaker 6: You're not the GMS, You're not You're not pulling the
- 1:16:30Speaker 6: trigger on draft picks. Correct, correct, But it's such a
- 1:16:33Speaker 6: so you sit there and you're like, hey, this guy,
- 1:16:35Speaker 6: and you're you're the one evaluating the ball players as well. Yeah,
- 1:16:38Speaker 6: sure there's a level of bias you're gonna have.
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: Player I'm hitting them up, ye.
- 1:16:45Speaker 5: Little higher, a little more money. But I think the
- 1:16:48Speaker 5: Giants organization has always been very well thought of and
- 1:16:51Speaker 5: kind of a family vibe. So far, it's been enormously
- 1:16:55Speaker 5: welcoming to ideas and into working together. So I think
- 1:17:00Speaker 5: all of us are going to have a voice when
- 1:17:01Speaker 5: it comes to stuff like that. But like the decision
- 1:17:03Speaker 5: you were talking about being skewed because of personal feelings
- 1:17:06Speaker 5: or stuff that's out there. Probably got to be a
- 1:17:08Speaker 5: little careful about not loving on those guys too much
- 1:17:10Speaker 5: from my standpoint.
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, that is.
- 1:17:13Speaker 6: Was there ever a point when this news starts to
- 1:17:15Speaker 6: break where you're like, fuck it, I'm just gonna stay here.
- 1:17:17Speaker 6: Did you like, was there ever that much second guessing involved?
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:17:19Speaker 5: When that first hit, it was like, you know, any
- 1:17:23Speaker 5: competitor kind of bows up when someone tells you one
- 1:17:25Speaker 5: thing that it's not true or you don't believe in it,
- 1:17:27Speaker 5: you blow up and want to do the other. And
- 1:17:30Speaker 5: so I got good advice from a guy who was
- 1:17:32Speaker 5: a mentor of mine, Sean mccanns's name, and he's like, dude,
- 1:17:36Speaker 5: just take a time out. You don't know where that
- 1:17:37Speaker 5: came from or why. And so it was good to
- 1:17:40Speaker 5: kind of take that night to reset. And then, you know,
- 1:17:44Speaker 5: it's like these kids I talked to on the phone
- 1:17:45Speaker 5: with college decisions. I mean, when you're getting recruited by
- 1:17:48Speaker 5: SEC schools, you can't really choose wrong. I mean, you're
- 1:17:51Speaker 5: gonna think it if you're working at Tennessee and they
- 1:17:53Speaker 5: choose Mississippi State or you know, South Carolina or whatever.
- 1:17:56Speaker 5: But the only way to make a decision right is
- 1:17:59Speaker 5: just to move forward and make it the right one.
- 1:18:01Speaker 5: So no going back now.
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: Was getting in the MLB always like a north star
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: for you?
- 1:18:07Speaker 5: Never just because I didn't think it was possible. I mean,
- 1:18:10Speaker 5: I knew enough as a son of a coach that
- 1:18:13Speaker 5: I wasn't skilled enough, that wasn't going to happen as
- 1:18:16Speaker 5: a player. And then I always thought. One of the
- 1:18:18Speaker 5: reasons I went to Missouri and walked on University of
- 1:18:20Speaker 5: Missouri was I always thought, you pretty much and this
- 1:18:24Speaker 5: is true for the most part, you finish or you
- 1:18:26Speaker 5: coach where you finished playing like that level, and I
- 1:18:29Speaker 5: know there's exceptions. So I would took a big risk
- 1:18:32Speaker 5: and walked on at a Division I school because that's
- 1:18:35Speaker 5: what I wanted to do, But having never even been
- 1:18:37Speaker 5: in pro ball, I didn't think it was possible. And
- 1:18:39Speaker 5: then the last couple of years some conversations have started
- 1:18:42Speaker 5: where the interest was peaked, and you know, I'd hate
- 1:18:46Speaker 5: to finish coaching without at least trying it.
- 1:18:49Speaker 6: And yeah, were there any other MLB teams you said
- 1:18:51Speaker 6: in the last couple of years that were interested?
- 1:18:53Speaker 5: Nothing significant? You know, you mentioned agent. You know, Jimmy
- 1:18:57Speaker 5: Sexton's got his hands full now since is your agent. Yeah, but.
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: Let's back up.
- 1:19:06Speaker 5: That stems more from a guy well that that stems
- 1:19:12Speaker 5: from more of a friendship and a tie. He went
- 1:19:15Speaker 5: to Tennessee, so that's kind of more and of course
- 1:19:18Speaker 5: baseball is not. It's become more his field. And really
- 1:19:21Speaker 5: he's impacted the game in a great way. He gets
- 1:19:24Speaker 5: a lot of credit for coaching salaries and where the
- 1:19:27Speaker 5: trend is going right now, so kudos to him. But
- 1:19:30Speaker 5: that's kind of how that relationship worked out. Obviously, he
- 1:19:32Speaker 5: started with Reggie White and he's been in football and man,
- 1:19:35Speaker 5: these guys, I can only imagine how much you guys
- 1:19:38Speaker 5: have discussed college football. This firing guys in the middle
- 1:19:40Speaker 5: of the season. I get it, but I get it.
- 1:19:45Speaker 5: But it happened at an SEC school baseball wise, and
- 1:19:49Speaker 5: I wasn't there, so I'm not talking ill about any decisions.
- 1:19:52Speaker 5: But you looked at a schedule this guy had in
- 1:19:54Speaker 5: front of him, It's like, this team is going to
- 1:19:56Speaker 5: win a lot of games, and if you get in
- 1:19:57Speaker 5: the postseason, anything can happen. But they get rid of
- 1:20:00Speaker 5: the guy in the middle of the year. And again
- 1:20:02Speaker 5: the schedule got a little more favorable. They had good players,
- 1:20:05Speaker 5: just you guys are athletes. The season has a lot
- 1:20:08Speaker 5: of ebbs and flows. And I've been on teams especially too.
- 1:20:11Speaker 5: Out of last three three years at Tennessee, we started
- 1:20:13Speaker 5: out really weak and we finished really strong. This past year,
- 1:20:17Speaker 5: we started out like a ball of fire and we
- 1:20:19Speaker 5: finished okay. But we were doing so well at the
- 1:20:22Speaker 5: beginning everyone thought we were just going to steamroll every Moody.
- 1:20:24Speaker 5: So a season is an entire body of work, and
- 1:20:28Speaker 5: I get it, it's a different sport. You guys know
- 1:20:30Speaker 5: what better than I do. But right now is wild.
- 1:20:32Speaker 5: And I mean Lane Kiffin can only take one job
- 1:20:35Speaker 5: out there.
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: Oh yes, or even stay. It is nuts. It's like
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: we were talking about it, what is it? Arkansas, Auburn,
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: l Florida, Florida.
- 1:20:50Speaker 6: That's yeah, that's an insane and the.
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: Still more jobs a lot out there. I'm just saying, yeah,
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: what do you do?
- 1:21:03Speaker 6: You know? Now he's just doing it. We shot a
- 1:21:07Speaker 6: reaction show a little bit agoing and we're really having
- 1:21:09Speaker 6: a good conversation about football and college and little all
- 1:21:12Speaker 6: the head coaching jobs. Then I started talking about Michigan
- 1:21:15Speaker 6: and how like I want to see the passing game develop.
- 1:21:18Speaker 6: He's like a lot of head coaching jobs open out there.
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: I'm just like, you know, what do you do? Har Well?
- 1:21:23Speaker 5: If anything you got Morgan Walling coming to the stadium,
- 1:21:26Speaker 5: was that July.
- 1:21:27Speaker 6: Yeah, that'll be nice, that'll be nice to see Zach Bryant.
- 1:21:30Speaker 6: He did that set the record and now Morgan's like,
- 1:21:32Speaker 6: not on my watch, get that they done?
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:21:35Speaker 5: Place gets rowdy.
- 1:21:36Speaker 6: Huh, there's a lot of them there.
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:21:39Speaker 6: I think that's probably Michigan's biggest knock in a game.
- 1:21:42Speaker 6: The atmospheres is not very loud for how many people
- 1:21:44Speaker 6: are in the building. Yeah, but I think it's a
- 1:21:46Speaker 6: structural thing. It has to be. You can't have one
- 1:21:48Speaker 6: hundred and fifteen thou.
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: Tenne straight up.
- 1:21:52Speaker 6: It's like it is a way different sound Tennessee ls
- 1:21:55Speaker 6: U A and m We went to Nebraska even ninety
- 1:21:58Speaker 6: two thousand there. Yeah, it's very very loud. Then you
- 1:22:01Speaker 6: go to Michigan and kind of just bows out a
- 1:22:02Speaker 6: little bit. Sure we were talking about this before. If
- 1:22:05Speaker 6: you just take you get the suitets that they were
- 1:22:07Speaker 6: putting in when I first got there, If you just
- 1:22:09Speaker 6: kind of put those in next to the big screens
- 1:22:12Speaker 6: and then take out the wood and put in aluminum.
- 1:22:14Speaker 6: I think you've changed the game right there. A couple
- 1:22:16Speaker 6: of hundred mil.
- 1:22:17Speaker 5: That's all you gotta, don't I don't know why they
- 1:22:19Speaker 5: went now sore shift for this information.
- 1:22:21Speaker 6: This is zip Man. And then I got a lot
- 1:22:23Speaker 6: of good ideas.
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: In Tennessee against Oklahoma.
- 1:22:27Speaker 5: I don't know. That was rough, And even more rough
- 1:22:29Speaker 5: was trying to keep one eye on the TV of
- 1:22:31Speaker 5: watching Game seven and then watching the game as well.
- 1:22:34Speaker 5: But you know it's up there and Peyton and those
- 1:22:39Speaker 5: guys can break down football better than I can. But
- 1:22:41Speaker 5: it was just a real frustrating game. And you know,
- 1:22:45Speaker 5: people seem to be a little sour on our defense,
- 1:22:47Speaker 5: but I don't know. You win and lose as a
- 1:22:49Speaker 5: whole team. And you know, coach Hypel has always done
- 1:22:52Speaker 5: well with the offense and the quarterbacks, and the vibe
- 1:22:55Speaker 5: is always good over there, you know, in the building.
- 1:22:57Speaker 5: So it's the SEC and it's same for you guys too.
- 1:23:00Speaker 5: I mean, when it's that high level of competition, it
- 1:23:03Speaker 5: can go one way or the other. And unless you're
- 1:23:05Speaker 5: in the locker room, you don't know if there was
- 1:23:07Speaker 5: a vibe that swung it one way or the other, and.
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: We were just talking about the chaos and people just
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: these emotional decisions on firing coaches mid year. It's like
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: after the Oklahoma game, even Hypel's names getting brought up
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: in Lane Kiffin coming back to Tennessee.
- 1:23:18Speaker 5: It just got.
- 1:23:20Speaker 6: Relax.
- 1:23:20Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm sure. I'm sure he's.
- 1:23:22Speaker 6: Gonna make fifty million dollars a year, so he's got
- 1:23:25Speaker 6: a bitting war going crazy right now.
- 1:23:27Speaker 5: I'm sure he's been known to get back with an
- 1:23:29Speaker 5: X or two. But there's something to be said for consistency.
- 1:23:33Speaker 5: And when I was coming up at Missouri, I spent
- 1:23:36Speaker 5: more days on the bench that I did on the field, unfortunately,
- 1:23:39Speaker 5: but I knew I want to coach. I'll surveying. It's like,
- 1:23:41Speaker 5: what's consistent about some of these best programs, And a
- 1:23:44Speaker 5: lot of it was that word consistency. When a group
- 1:23:46Speaker 5: can stay together and build some synergy and keep things
- 1:23:50Speaker 5: going with you know, the recruits stay on board, and
- 1:23:53Speaker 5: relationships with the donors. I think there's a lot to
- 1:23:55Speaker 5: maybe because I'm defensive of coaches, but there's a lot
- 1:23:58Speaker 5: to be said for riding out some ORMs and giving
- 1:24:01Speaker 5: somebody some freedom, because if you're in our league or
- 1:24:03Speaker 5: one of the best leagues in the country, you're gonna
- 1:24:06Speaker 5: take blows. You're gonna dish out blows, but you're gonna
- 1:24:08Speaker 5: take some too.
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: What's the consistency look like? Like this will be a
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: very broken question, but I'm very curious, Like you being
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: a player, and you be a guy, spend more time
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: on the bench unfortunately than playing. But as you're observing,
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: what is the consistency, like, what are the things that
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: in your mind you're trying to build a resume or
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: a portfolio for for you knowing you want to be
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: a coach. What are things you're seeing like when you
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: are in the locker room as a player that you're
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: observing It's like, I'm going to take some of these
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: things knowing that I've experienced it as a player into coaching.
- 1:24:37Speaker 5: I think probably even on the sheet of what to
- 1:24:40Speaker 5: do is even on the sheet of what not to do,
- 1:24:42Speaker 5: and you know how to approach guys and what freedom
- 1:24:46Speaker 5: to give them reaction wise, you know, the freedom to
- 1:24:49Speaker 5: be who they are. You kind of mentioned that earlier.
- 1:24:51Speaker 5: That's all good, but it's got to be under the
- 1:24:53Speaker 5: framework of the team so it sounds real vague and
- 1:24:56Speaker 5: real easy to say, but balance is huge. And like
- 1:24:59Speaker 5: I said that balance eat of learning and watching probably
- 1:25:02Speaker 5: equal to what not to do is just as valuable,
- 1:25:05Speaker 5: and there's just as many lessons learned there as what
- 1:25:07Speaker 5: to do.
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: You're probably learning it too in real time, Like a
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: coach might have a wrong message of trying to address
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: something and be like, I know my teammate or this player,
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: he's not taken it kind of the correct way. This
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: could be a way to get the messaging that the
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: coach wants across and you know, mixing it in with
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: kind of the player mentality. I've always been fascinated with
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: that because my thought if I wasn't podcasting is I was,
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: I would get into coaching. So I'm just not too curious.
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: It's not too I know, you never know. Man it
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: look listen, if rule can't get it done, you know,
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: really see.
- 1:25:34Speaker 6: Me, give me five six more years with this man.
- 1:25:36Speaker 6: He can go do what he wants that I'm really
- 1:25:38Speaker 6: enjoying doing.
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: Just needs me. It's like, give me a couple more games.
- 1:25:43Speaker 6: That's a real thing too, That's a thing that could
- 1:25:45Speaker 6: happen in the next couple of years is maybe like
- 1:25:47Speaker 6: the linebackers don't do well in Nebraska and they will
- 1:25:50Speaker 6: call well, but hey, can you just coach the linebackers
- 1:25:52Speaker 6: for a couple of years. That conversation is real between
- 1:25:55Speaker 6: me and Will. We've had the conversations of like, if
- 1:25:56Speaker 6: you go, what's our game plan?
- 1:25:59Speaker 5: I think it should be. I mean, I mean as
- 1:26:00Speaker 5: far as the thought of who to hire as a coach,
- 1:26:03Speaker 5: so many times you know that I've been a part
- 1:26:06Speaker 5: of interviews or coworkers and we're kind of doing this now.
- 1:26:08Speaker 5: We just talked to a guy. I was like, I'm
- 1:26:10Speaker 5: thinking about just quitting my job and starting a company
- 1:26:13Speaker 5: with this guy. Like it doesn't matter if it's working
- 1:26:15Speaker 5: at a pizza parlor or tech industry or coaching or
- 1:26:18Speaker 5: podcast like, this guy would be good. And I think,
- 1:26:21Speaker 5: you know, there's some similar traits for people that are
- 1:26:23Speaker 5: successful across the board. And like I said, fortunately or unfortunately,
- 1:26:27Speaker 5: I was sitting on the bench a lot, so I
- 1:26:29Speaker 5: didn't have any skills in but I got to watch
- 1:26:31Speaker 5: a lot of people that I think had the that
- 1:26:33Speaker 5: set of skills.
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: Yeah, had a good correlation what or the nerves like
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: and stuff. As you're interviewing for this job in the MLB.
- 1:26:41Speaker 5: You know, because you you this is a different like
- 1:26:44Speaker 5: first ever it is. Well, the other thing is you're
- 1:26:47Speaker 5: talking to Buster Posey, and that's that's a guy that
- 1:26:50Speaker 5: I had started coaching. But I looked at him, you know,
- 1:26:53Speaker 5: in college, and watched him in college almost as a fan,
- 1:26:57Speaker 5: and then to see what he did in Major League Baseball.
- 1:27:00Speaker 5: He's one of the biggest winners ever in pro sports.
- 1:27:03Speaker 5: And I know that was the concept of bringing him
- 1:27:05Speaker 5: on and making him a part of the front office now,
- 1:27:08Speaker 5: So to talk to him. I mentioned to Jimmy a
- 1:27:11Speaker 5: couple times, like, hey, you you got to let me
- 1:27:13Speaker 5: talk to some people other than Buster, because it's impossible
- 1:27:16Speaker 5: not to talk to him and see him for who
- 1:27:19Speaker 5: he is, you know what I mean, and just keep
- 1:27:20Speaker 5: it normal and regular. So that was a big part
- 1:27:23Speaker 5: of the process. But I guess when you're in a
- 1:27:25Speaker 5: good position, and I didn't. I didn't hand in a
- 1:27:28Speaker 5: resume or seek this out. It kind of presented itself
- 1:27:31Speaker 5: to me. So I felt rock solid. And what was
- 1:27:34Speaker 5: going on at Tennessee and you know, new stadium being
- 1:27:38Speaker 5: built there and the next couple of recruiting classes are
- 1:27:40Speaker 5: ranked real high for whatever that it's only worth so much.
- 1:27:43Speaker 5: But yeah, so I think that kind of changed the
- 1:27:46Speaker 5: tone of it too.
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: Yeah, now that you're out of it, how is the
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: nil speak on the nil? How how has it been
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: changing the game in college athletics as particularly at a big,
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: small level.
- 1:27:57Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a disaster. I'm in this weird again. We
- 1:28:02Speaker 5: all have thoughts that are probably you dream a little
- 1:28:05Speaker 5: bigger then I kind of have this weird fantasy or
- 1:28:08Speaker 5: vision of like, Okay, can college and MLB merge together
- 1:28:13Speaker 5: a little bit and help each other? And I wouldn't
- 1:28:16Speaker 5: be the main you know, I certainly shouldn't be the
- 1:28:19Speaker 5: patron of either, but I could connect the right people
- 1:28:22Speaker 5: and get this thing where it's a little more fluid.
- 1:28:25Speaker 5: But the one part MLB can't affect is just where
- 1:28:27Speaker 5: NCAA sports are in general, and it's just a mess.
- 1:28:31Speaker 5: And I would say the biggest I'm doing this off
- 1:28:33Speaker 5: the cuff. Hopefully no one wants to slash my tires.
- 1:28:35Speaker 5: But it's like you're driving in the fog and you
- 1:28:39Speaker 5: can't really see but about one hundred or two hundred
- 1:28:42Speaker 5: feet in front of you, and you know you're grasping
- 1:28:45Speaker 5: for what's real, what you can do what you can't do.
- 1:28:49Speaker 5: And again, I'm sure someone will throw out that I
- 1:28:51Speaker 5: did something wrong, or I didn't do this, or but overall,
- 1:28:55Speaker 5: it's very frustrating. We don't know the rules to the game,
- 1:28:58Speaker 5: and it's I hate to keep beating up the topic.
- 1:29:00Speaker 5: Of course, there's judges in UFC or boxing, but I
- 1:29:02Speaker 5: love those two sports because it's two guys locked in
- 1:29:05Speaker 5: one spot, or it could be gals and just who's better.
- 1:29:08Speaker 5: And that's what I like more about anything. I mean,
- 1:29:11Speaker 5: I almost wish too, like Oregon, you should only be
- 1:29:14Speaker 5: allowed to have a certain amount of uniform combinations, you
- 1:29:16Speaker 5: should only have certain square footage in a locker room,
- 1:29:20Speaker 5: like let's find out. That's the whole point of athletics
- 1:29:23Speaker 5: or competition is like let's find out who can do
- 1:29:25Speaker 5: it better. But when you really don't know what the
- 1:29:26Speaker 5: rules of the game are, or they're so lopsided in
- 1:29:30Speaker 5: favor of Tennessee over Middle Tennessee State, it's kind of
- 1:29:33Speaker 5: hard to have that nose to nose competition.
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:29:36Speaker 6: Yeah, it's definitely. It's the Wild West. There's gonna be
- 1:29:39Speaker 6: like a crazy documentary about all the nil it's taking place.
- 1:29:41Speaker 6: How does it work? For baseball players, Like, do baseball
- 1:29:44Speaker 6: players get full scholarships now? Because when we were in school,
- 1:29:47Speaker 6: it was like baseball was getting like eighty The most
- 1:29:51Speaker 6: you could get is like fifty percent. That's like, hey,
- 1:29:52Speaker 6: this is a really good baseball player like this percentage.
- 1:29:55Speaker 6: But now nil has come in, so you're paying these guys,
- 1:29:58Speaker 6: But do they have full scholarships? Like how does?
- 1:30:00Speaker 5: Yeah, so to make it overly simple, so they're used to.
- 1:30:02Speaker 5: When I first started coaching, it was eleven point seven
- 1:30:04Speaker 5: pretty much for every major programs scholarships. So if I
- 1:30:10Speaker 5: sit down with you and your family and we love
- 1:30:12Speaker 5: on you all weekend official visit, you go down on
- 1:30:14Speaker 5: the field for the football game it had finished in
- 1:30:17Speaker 5: the office with a here's your scholarship offer, and you
- 1:30:20Speaker 5: try and do your best to make it seem as
- 1:30:22Speaker 5: big as it can be because it's not an average.
- 1:30:25Speaker 5: If you do the numbers, eleven point seven, you'd get
- 1:30:27Speaker 5: to about forty three percent, so not even half of
- 1:30:30Speaker 5: your cost would be covered. And it's like, we love you,
- 1:30:33Speaker 5: but to come here, you're gonna have to pay twenty
- 1:30:35Speaker 5: grand a year out of state kid, Let's say, yeah,
- 1:30:38Speaker 5: it's just awful dealing with that, and then the nil
- 1:30:40Speaker 5: is actually like this is in football, this is a mess,
- 1:30:43Speaker 5: but in baseball it's kind of helping, like, hey, you
- 1:30:45Speaker 5: got no cost, We'll just figure out a way to
- 1:30:47Speaker 5: combine everything. And then we go into the new territory
- 1:30:50Speaker 5: where the rumors became true and it's like I'm in
- 1:30:53Speaker 5: the portal. You want me my first phone call? They
- 1:30:56Speaker 5: said this number? What do you guys got? And some
- 1:30:58Speaker 5: of those conference like kids too, kids literally walked in
- 1:31:01Speaker 5: my office like what is it? And I was like,
- 1:31:04Speaker 5: nice to meet you, you know, you know, and so.
- 1:31:08Speaker 6: Some of these things are getting so over the tow bat.
- 1:31:09Speaker 6: They're not even really introducing themselves. They're not there's no
- 1:31:11Speaker 6: small talk. It's like, what are you willing to offer
- 1:31:13Speaker 6: me to come player school?
- 1:31:14Speaker 9: Yeah?
- 1:31:14Speaker 5: And again no offense to them or no foul on them.
- 1:31:19Speaker 5: I mean, it's what I keep saying, what you don't know?
- 1:31:21Speaker 5: You don't know. I mean, if their phone call there
- 1:31:23Speaker 5: get from University of whoever is right out of the shoot,
- 1:31:26Speaker 5: this is what we're offering you. Then that's kind of
- 1:31:27Speaker 5: what his expectations are. And now we're at this new
- 1:31:30Speaker 5: place where we can offer full scholarships at Tennessee. Not
- 1:31:34Speaker 5: every school did that, and I mean we're talking big
- 1:31:37Speaker 5: time program athletic departments did not boost their scholarships. So
- 1:31:41Speaker 5: you can offer full scholarships if you want as an
- 1:31:43Speaker 5: athletic department, but it's not available. And then you got
- 1:31:46Speaker 5: this rev share thing, which is real money, but some
- 1:31:49Speaker 5: don't get any. And then you got nil, which again
- 1:31:51Speaker 5: is hopefully getting sorted out, but we're still in a
- 1:31:54Speaker 5: very gray place with that.
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: Yeah, and are you even able to, like if they're
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: getting this offer outside from another universe, that's a great question.
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: I'm sure you can't eventually. But with it's like, you know,
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: a coach I was talking to you. Even with college football,
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: you're like, you're not even having real exit meetings to
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: talk about what the player can work on or develop.
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: They're kind of walking in and be like, Hey, this
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: is what I'm hearing from my agent. There's really no
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: conversation to be had unless I get X, Y and Z,
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: and it's kind of the bulk. It's that is the
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: exit meeting.
- 1:32:23Speaker 6: Which is bad for the development of players. Yeah, in
- 1:32:26Speaker 6: the football world, at least, I don't have a work
- 1:32:27Speaker 6: in baseball. But yeah, if you're not you can't coach
- 1:32:29Speaker 6: a guy hard, he's not going to get better at
- 1:32:32Speaker 6: these small things. And you're going to see it in
- 1:32:33Speaker 6: the next couple of years where the level of play
- 1:32:36Speaker 6: on the field is going to get worse because the
- 1:32:37Speaker 6: techniques that is good, because the guys aren't getting coach
- 1:32:39Speaker 6: the way they should. They're just getting more and more
- 1:32:41Speaker 6: money because they're naturally talented.
- 1:32:42Speaker 5: Yeah, I think it's kind of already started that way.
- 1:32:44Speaker 5: To backtrack a little bit, the one thing is what
- 1:32:47Speaker 5: and again, no foul play on an agent. If you're
- 1:32:49Speaker 5: an agent, why wouldn't you say, hey, my guy's been
- 1:32:51Speaker 5: offered already kind of between this number and this number,
- 1:32:54Speaker 5: and maybe you make it seem a little better than
- 1:32:56Speaker 5: it is how we supposed to know, and the recruiting
- 1:32:59Speaker 5: and the summer goes like that. I mean, it's a whirlwind.
- 1:33:03Speaker 5: So but I think development A word that I kept
- 1:33:05Speaker 5: coming up with is sequence. I think there's a sequence
- 1:33:08Speaker 5: that takes place in the development of an athlete, and
- 1:33:10Speaker 5: for some guys that comes quicker, some guys that come slower.
- 1:33:13Speaker 5: But there's definitely a sequence you have to respect, and
- 1:33:16Speaker 5: I think all respect for that has gone out the
- 1:33:18Speaker 5: window because coaches are you got to make a choice,
- 1:33:21Speaker 5: what's your approach? But all of us at some point
- 1:33:23Speaker 5: have tiptoed around something because of the threat of the
- 1:33:27Speaker 5: transfer portal or a guy being disgruntled, and then two
- 1:33:31Speaker 5: for a player, it's like, it's not going well. It's
- 1:33:34Speaker 5: not going as well as I thought it would, So
- 1:33:36Speaker 5: I'm out, And I thought the coolest thing, and I'm not.
- 1:33:39Speaker 5: I just I know I'm fortunate enough to know Peyton
- 1:33:41Speaker 5: because of the university. But when people talked about arch
- 1:33:44Speaker 5: Manning leaving Texas, one of my favorite individuals I've ever
- 1:33:48Speaker 5: met is Archie Manning. And if you know that family,
- 1:33:51Speaker 5: it's like that dude ain't going nowhere. He's going to
- 1:33:54Speaker 5: see that thing through and he's going to make it happen.
- 1:33:56Speaker 5: And I followed a little bit. It seems like it's
- 1:33:58Speaker 5: going decent last.
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: Couple of games.
- 1:34:02Speaker 5: But I think because of the background of that family,
- 1:34:04Speaker 5: there's a respect for that sequence of development. And at
- 1:34:07Speaker 5: some point you're gonna get knocked down and you're gonna
- 1:34:10Speaker 5: have to overcome some challenges and if you wait till
- 1:34:13Speaker 5: too long in your career, you might not know how
- 1:34:15Speaker 5: to handle it.
- 1:34:16Speaker 6: Yeah, it'd be very off brand. For arch Man to
- 1:34:18Speaker 6: be in the transfer portal, and you wanted to be
- 1:34:20Speaker 6: a massive shock to anybody if he was gonna go
- 1:34:22Speaker 6: somewhere else based off of the diversity that was having
- 1:34:24Speaker 6: up until these last couple of games. You talked about, Uh,
- 1:34:27Speaker 6: every coach at some point is kind of tiptoed around
- 1:34:29Speaker 6: some things. What are some examples of you tiptoeing around and.
- 1:34:33Speaker 5: You're like, ah, I should thanks a lot.
- 1:34:36Speaker 6: Maybe, well, hey we're out now, Wait, this is fair game,
- 1:34:40Speaker 6: say names.
- 1:34:41Speaker 5: Well, I mean there's one that's pretty well documented. I
- 1:34:43Speaker 5: mean the thing is, sometimes you find out a guy
- 1:34:46Speaker 5: is leaving, and.
- 1:34:49Speaker 6: You find out be a news or a text.
- 1:34:51Speaker 5: Well, on the recruiting side, you get a phone call
- 1:34:53Speaker 5: and we had kind of blossomed and now all eyes
- 1:34:57Speaker 5: are on us, and I think we could have coached
- 1:35:00Speaker 5: a kid that was a superstar. But you get a
- 1:35:03Speaker 5: call and it's like, hey, this guy's got seven or
- 1:35:06Speaker 5: eight sec offers. What's your guys offer? And it's like, well,
- 1:35:10Speaker 5: and trust me, I'm no saint. But at the time
- 1:35:12Speaker 5: it's like, we got too many eyes on us, and
- 1:35:14Speaker 5: people are throwing out, you know, certain things. We didn't
- 1:35:17Speaker 5: move on it at all. But it's so weird because
- 1:35:20Speaker 5: it's like I just watched this guy on TV. He's
- 1:35:22Speaker 5: playing for a different school and yet shopping these other ones.
- 1:35:25Speaker 5: So there's so many different situations in recruiting that pop up.
- 1:35:30Speaker 5: And that's one. And then with coaching, I had to
- 1:35:32Speaker 5: coach a kid that was really talented that we knew
- 1:35:35Speaker 5: he was out the door. We knew the minute we
- 1:35:37Speaker 5: made kind of a change in role that he was
- 1:35:40Speaker 5: going to be out the door, And we had a
- 1:35:41Speaker 5: short conversation in the locker room, like what do we
- 1:35:44Speaker 5: want to do? And finally I just I mean, we
- 1:35:49Speaker 5: made a lot of group decisions in this particular case.
- 1:35:51Speaker 5: I was just like, this is what we're doing, but
- 1:35:52Speaker 5: he's going to leave. And then knowing that you still
- 1:35:55Speaker 5: have season left, it's kind of like you know, the
- 1:35:58Speaker 5: firing coaches in the mills. He's in college football. Sometimes
- 1:36:02Speaker 5: it's a different way you get there, but you might
- 1:36:04Speaker 5: still be able to have a successful season if you
- 1:36:06Speaker 5: can just kind of keep things on board. So that
- 1:36:09Speaker 5: that was a tough. That was tough one to deal
- 1:36:11Speaker 5: with these.
- 1:36:12Speaker 6: Decisions of all the schools. When you're getting cult from
- 1:36:15Speaker 6: agents being like, hey, we have an offer from this
- 1:36:17Speaker 6: school for this much. What's one school that came up
- 1:36:19Speaker 6: the most? It was like, hey, L s U. L
- 1:36:22Speaker 6: S wh's got a big baseball brother. They're always kind
- 1:36:24Speaker 6: offering the most. What school does it seem to you
- 1:36:26Speaker 6: is like always offering the most?
- 1:36:28Speaker 5: Well, you know, I think, oh as far as N
- 1:36:31Speaker 5: I L N I L like you're I'm talking about, like, yeah,
- 1:36:39Speaker 5: you know, I think there's a few certain ones that
- 1:36:42Speaker 5: seem to be more organized out of the shoot. But
- 1:36:45Speaker 5: you know, you brought up L s U. It's like
- 1:36:47Speaker 5: it's a religion down there. That culture is so different,
- 1:36:51Speaker 5: and not just in sports, but just in life. It's
- 1:36:53Speaker 5: pretty cool to be around. Just the vibe. You're not
- 1:36:57Speaker 5: going to go hungry if you're walking around down in Louisiana,
- 1:37:01Speaker 5: and and that vibe is sports is life. And then
- 1:37:03Speaker 5: in the state of Texas it's you know, everything's bigger.
- 1:37:07Speaker 5: It is true in a lot of different ways, and
- 1:37:09Speaker 5: down there it's like who can throw out the bigger
- 1:37:12Speaker 5: wallet or the bigger amount. So and then there's traditions
- 1:37:16Speaker 5: at other sports too, and there's some quirky niches that
- 1:37:18Speaker 5: are out there. So it honestly, it varied. It'd be
- 1:37:22Speaker 5: now I'm not in college. Maybe I could throw something
- 1:37:25Speaker 5: out there, but it honestly varied where some were really
- 1:37:27Speaker 5: organized out of the shoot and then others made adjustments.
- 1:37:32Speaker 5: Oil money is real and then you guys see it
- 1:37:35Speaker 5: like fan bases or loil and I don't you know,
- 1:37:39Speaker 5: I've been in Columbus, but ohiose it's a big city
- 1:37:42Speaker 5: in Ohio state football? Is it? Is it? That's the
- 1:37:46Speaker 5: main deal going on?
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: What are a couple guardrails you'd put up in college
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: baseball with the nil and the portal. It's like for football,
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: like I don't know the portal windows and stuff, but
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: in football, I want to say the main one opens
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: up in December, yeah, or.
- 1:38:05Speaker 2: The last I thought it was the first week of January.
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: Yeah, it might be that. I know it's shipped a
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: couple of times. But what makes it very hard to
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: where it's like, hey, if we're going to do all
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: this money stuff and everything else, like just make it
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: a like a free agency type window our kids, Like
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: some of these decisions aren't getting made, were right if
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: there's still some season left or like right after it's happening.
- 1:38:24Speaker 6: And there's teams playing for in the playoffs that are
- 1:38:27Speaker 6: focused on the playoffs. Other teams are not making a
- 1:38:29Speaker 6: bowl game.
- 1:38:29Speaker 5: Some bowl games, yeah, but being you know, with our
- 1:38:32Speaker 5: sport being a spring sport, and this is totally off
- 1:38:34Speaker 5: the cuff. I don't have a stance one way or
- 1:38:36Speaker 5: the other. But some people are in favor of guys
- 1:38:38Speaker 5: being able to transfer and play if you transfer it semester.
- 1:38:42Speaker 5: So right now, somewhere out there in the SEC, there's
- 1:38:44Speaker 5: a kid that's realizing this isn't the place for me,
- 1:38:49Speaker 5: and but he's good enough to be in the SEC.
- 1:38:51Speaker 5: Why can't he transfer at December, at the end of
- 1:38:54Speaker 5: the semester and be eligible. You know that that creates
- 1:38:58Speaker 5: a big mess, but that's an option out there. And
- 1:39:00Speaker 5: then you know, moving the portal dates. You know, I
- 1:39:03Speaker 5: don't know that it'd affect our deal too much because
- 1:39:06Speaker 5: so many of these conversations start before they start, you know,
- 1:39:10Speaker 5: so our deal does start, you know, I think in
- 1:39:13Speaker 5: the middle of regionals, and it creates a bit of
- 1:39:15Speaker 5: a mess. And now you're trying to win a regional
- 1:39:17Speaker 5: and you know, recruit a kid or a kid's trying
- 1:39:20Speaker 5: to win a regional, but he's already you know, got
- 1:39:23Speaker 5: one foot out the door. So I think it's kind
- 1:39:25Speaker 5: of nature of the beast.
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: A lot of the.
- 1:39:26Speaker 5: Stuff starts before it actually happens, and I don't know
- 1:39:31Speaker 5: how you safeguard or put up you know, rails against that.
- 1:39:34Speaker 5: But that's why the smarter people than I and higher
- 1:39:37Speaker 5: paid positions.
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:39:40Speaker 5: Yeah, and that's a word that gets thrown out a lot.
- 1:39:44Speaker 5: You know, I think what the actual definition of that
- 1:39:49Speaker 5: needs to be put out there. And I think, you know, again,
- 1:39:53Speaker 5: someone will say I did this or that, but I
- 1:39:55Speaker 5: think pretty staunch penalties against that would be wise. But
- 1:39:59Speaker 5: there's always back champ stuff when agents are involved, and
- 1:40:02Speaker 5: again they've got a job to do. When agents are
- 1:40:04Speaker 5: involved and they can technically be a middleman or a
- 1:40:07Speaker 5: third party, it throws everything out of whack a little bit.
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:40:11Speaker 6: I mean even in NFL, like there's a tampering period
- 1:40:13Speaker 6: before the free agency period that's.
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: Like well known.
- 1:40:16Speaker 6: It's like these guys as soon as like free agency starts,
- 1:40:18Speaker 6: if it's like two pm on this day, it's like
- 1:40:20Speaker 6: two oh one pm, these ten guys are getting signed
- 1:40:23Speaker 6: with these massive contracts. There's always tom foolery about sure,
- 1:40:27Speaker 6: but it's like, how do you that's like the name
- 1:40:29Speaker 6: of the game. Right, Like, you find the rules and
- 1:40:31Speaker 6: then you exploit the rules with the way they're written
- 1:40:34Speaker 6: to put your team in the best advantage you possibly can't.
- 1:40:36Speaker 5: Yeah, I've tried to say, I mean with the NCAA
- 1:40:39Speaker 5: in particular, I've seen a bunch of rule changes, and
- 1:40:42Speaker 5: again I don't know necessarily what's best. You just find
- 1:40:44Speaker 5: out what they are and you're trying to do your best job.
- 1:40:45Speaker 5: But anytime you make a rule or a law, to me,
- 1:40:48Speaker 5: you should always hire a criminal and say, how are
- 1:40:52Speaker 5: we getting around you know, yeah, we're going to start
- 1:40:54Speaker 5: a casino you would want you know, I think you've
- 1:40:57Speaker 5: had some time at the table.
- 1:40:58Speaker 6: Yeah, not as a criminal.
- 1:41:02Speaker 5: How do we hire a criminal?
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:41:05Speaker 5: Well actually yeah, but you know, find find out what
- 1:41:08Speaker 5: are the ways around this, and maybe you can prevent it,
- 1:41:10Speaker 5: but there's probably always going to be a gray area,
- 1:41:12Speaker 5: and you know, I guess and anything. Kudos to people
- 1:41:15Speaker 5: that are aggressive trying to make it happen.

- 1:43:06Speaker 1: Let's get back to Tony in the MLB world, we
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: in favor of a salary.
- 1:43:11Speaker 5: Cap to an extent, to an extent I need yeah
- 1:43:19Speaker 5: right now?
- 1:43:20Speaker 3: Yes?
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: Or not?
- 1:43:21Speaker 5: Trying to stay out of trouble.
- 1:43:23Speaker 6: Yeah, although you went a great job of doing the
- 1:43:25Speaker 6: allegedlies and people will say I did this, But would.
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: You like to see a salary cap in college baseball?
- 1:43:30Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:43:30Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, what I again? I do kind of like
- 1:43:34Speaker 5: what it's it's delicate because America is built on pushing
- 1:43:37Speaker 5: the envelope and trying to outdo people and capitalism and
- 1:43:40Speaker 5: things like that. But in the spirit of competition, I
- 1:43:42Speaker 5: do like when things are even, so you know where
- 1:43:47Speaker 5: the where the balance is between those two As far
- 1:43:49Speaker 5: as what you can pay people, I don't necessarily know,
- 1:43:52Speaker 5: but yeah.
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: Look at the example of the ESPN and YouTube TV
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: right now. Yeah, as far as fighting for capital.
- 1:43:59Speaker 6: Viewers, yeah, the leaders are losing right now on both ends.
- 1:44:03Speaker 6: Uh yeah, But we were just some of the Dodgers
- 1:44:04Speaker 6: and how the Dodgers. It's bad for baseball. The Dodgers won,
- 1:44:07Speaker 6: this is Mitch's take, because they can pay more money
- 1:44:09Speaker 6: for people. Also, they have a crazy like vet tunnel
- 1:44:12Speaker 6: from like Japan, the most disciplined people ever, Like the
- 1:44:15Speaker 6: people from Japan love Dodgers. If you uh from a
- 1:44:18Speaker 6: giant time zone works out the whole thing. They though
- 1:44:22Speaker 6: they had a nice little tunnel with the Dodgers. When
- 1:44:25Speaker 6: you look at the Giants, is this like a franchise
- 1:44:28Speaker 6: that can spend a lot of it? Do they spend
- 1:44:29Speaker 6: a lot of money?
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:44:30Speaker 5: They're aggressive. Okay, good, they're good.
- 1:44:32Speaker 6: So we're in a good spot.
- 1:44:33Speaker 5: Yeah, I think so. You guys want to jump on board.
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: Yeah, listen, we have hasn't hit our account right now
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: to where a couple of years ago somebody was on
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: the podcast is I think they said that they would
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: give their salary to Busting with the Boys to win
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: a national.
- 1:44:50Speaker 6: And did that person win a national championship? He did
- 1:44:52Speaker 6: that year? It did Bust with the Boys get their salary?
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: They did not see a dollar?
- 1:44:56Speaker 6: Do you pull up that individual salary?
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: Tuning in with Don't pull San Francisco new viewers rooting
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: on your next manager. Coach Tony V was on. We
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: sat down with him out in Tennessee for Busting with
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: the Boys an episode and oh damn. The question we
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: like to ask is what would you be willing to
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: do to win like a national title or a super
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: Bowl super Bowl? And Tony V was on he said
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: he'd give us his salary if he won a national
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: title that year. We went on through the first pitch
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: here and yea, yeah, they going to win a national title.
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: So we've been having guns point at Tony V like, hey,
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: you have where's that salary? I fail getting it. We
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: were dipping into the new salary.
- 1:45:36Speaker 5: We could, we could come up with an agreement, especially
- 1:45:38Speaker 5: because I failed. I've been running around. We're interviewing people,
- 1:45:41Speaker 5: but the plan was to come in with a briefcase
- 1:45:43Speaker 5: full of IOUs two and seventy five thould you might
- 1:45:48Speaker 5: want to hold on ye.
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: Hold on out.
- 1:45:52Speaker 6: It's a big one. Might want to hold on that one.
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: Yeah, so we could.
- 1:45:56Speaker 6: We'll get on a payment plan. We'll figure it out.
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe, Like I.
- 1:45:59Speaker 5: Don't know, Like, I mean, how about a Beverett Like
- 1:46:02Speaker 5: now that at least I'm not a molding young men
- 1:46:05Speaker 5: and having to recruit, I actually won't be fearful of
- 1:46:07Speaker 5: being seen with a beverage in my hand.
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: There you go.
- 1:46:10Speaker 5: Well, we'll start with if I see you guys, a
- 1:46:13Speaker 5: free cocktail, and then we'll just keep the tab run
- 1:46:15Speaker 5: until a million might buy us a coffee or something
- 1:46:20Speaker 5: like that.
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: And no one how the national title went. You might
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: have to have us out to throw a first pitch
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: to get that World series time.
- 1:46:25Speaker 5: I'm one hundred percent down with that.
- 1:46:27Speaker 6: Yeah, we need that.
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: Here's where it starts. Would you be willing to give
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: us your salary this year with the Giants if you
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: win a World Series?
- 1:46:37Speaker 5: A good chunk, a good chunk.
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: Yes, I would exactly what what you need to say
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: right now is yes, then we do the first pitch
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: thing and it might just be written in the stars,
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: written the stars. Then you never give it to us.
- 1:46:47Speaker 5: I would do that. I would do that, and would
- 1:46:49Speaker 5: actually give it to us as Yeah, and then i'd
- 1:46:52Speaker 5: you know, we'ream the streets of San Francisco and there's
- 1:46:54Speaker 5: got to be a company that's having enough success there
- 1:46:57Speaker 5: that amount of chump chain about there.
- 1:47:02Speaker 6: That's a perfect city to give out money.
- 1:47:05Speaker 5: Yes, we have a non handshake deal. For the non
- 1:47:08Speaker 5: handshake deal for the record.
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: Oh bro, what else do I have?
- 1:47:14Speaker 4: Oh?
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: I have a question? Oh So, it's like coming up
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: through high school when we were younger, it's like it
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: seemed like if you get drafted or going to the
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: farm system, that could be a better route to the
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: MLB versus like going to college. Has that shifted a
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: lot due to the NIO stuff going on in college baseball?
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: You know what it is? Is that a good question? Yeah?
- 1:47:33Speaker 5: I think scouts were real fearful of, Hey, we want
- 1:47:36Speaker 5: to give this guy, you know, eight hundred thousand dollars
- 1:47:39Speaker 5: in the third round, but he's going to get pushed
- 1:47:41Speaker 5: to college. And I think there's been examples people can
- 1:47:44Speaker 5: point to, like, hey, they bought this guy out of
- 1:47:46Speaker 5: the draft. I think there's probably more of that with
- 1:47:49Speaker 5: returning players, like a sophomore or a junior that could
- 1:47:53Speaker 5: have left college X and gone to the draft. Maybe
- 1:47:56Speaker 5: he's more inclined to come back because he's already ingrained
- 1:47:58Speaker 5: in the community. He's getting the andile set up. But
- 1:48:02Speaker 5: I think it's, like anything, it's case by case. I
- 1:48:04Speaker 5: don't think it was as rampant as maybe scouts feared of. Man,
- 1:48:08Speaker 5: I'll put all this work in on this guy. I
- 1:48:09Speaker 5: know he's the guy I want. I go to the
- 1:48:11Speaker 5: front office, But when we call him on draft days like, no,
- 1:48:14Speaker 5: I'm good, I'm getting six figures from a college.
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:48:17Speaker 5: So it skewed it a little bit, I think.
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: But so my follow up is that where you is
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: that where some collaborative efforts on bringing college baseball or
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: the NCAA into like the MLB in some sort of
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: a way.
- 1:48:31Speaker 5: I think, if anything, an understanding instead of both sides
- 1:48:34Speaker 5: wondering what's going on. And Hey, I always kind of
- 1:48:37Speaker 5: kept my distance because I've just kind of been a
- 1:48:40Speaker 5: live I've lived my life in the clubhouse. I mean,
- 1:48:42Speaker 5: that's my family away from my family. But there's probably
- 1:48:46Speaker 5: already been some continuity between college coaches and pro teams,
- 1:48:50Speaker 5: but might as well open up the avenues and everybody
- 1:48:52Speaker 5: have a full understanding of how it works and what
- 1:48:55Speaker 5: goes on, so that people can make the best decisions
- 1:48:58Speaker 5: without you know, looking back on it with yeah.
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I feel there's a lot there's a lot
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: more nuance as a high school player coming out, Yeah,
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: potential to get drafted, potential to go make a lot
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: of money in college, and yeah, so the development in
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: a certain organization that you might want, Like I'm just
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: assuming here, Like if I'm a player and you're a
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: massive fan of you or development of you, and you
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: could get a call coming out on draft day and
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: you're kind of stuck between a rock and a hard
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: place of wanting to go into this organization but getting
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: a lot more big dollars to go play college baseball.
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: I could just see where there's a it's a very
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: nuanced decision that an entire family is making.
- 1:49:32Speaker 5: I think it could be an X factor at the
- 1:49:34Speaker 5: end of the day. I think a lot of decisions
- 1:49:36Speaker 5: are made ahead of time, and it's like maybe a
- 1:49:38Speaker 5: fallback on something like that. It makes me feel confirms
- 1:49:42Speaker 5: that's what I want to do, or just has more
- 1:49:44Speaker 5: gives more conviction to the decision. But I think a
- 1:49:47Speaker 5: lot of these guys, man, it's in their DNA what
- 1:49:49Speaker 5: they want to do at a time. And then you've
- 1:49:51Speaker 5: got the first round as unique. It's if they're making
- 1:49:54Speaker 5: you their number one, you know they're committed to you
- 1:49:58Speaker 5: more than any other player and that draft class to
- 1:50:00Speaker 5: make it to the big leagues, it's hard to say
- 1:50:02Speaker 5: no when of course there's finances that come with it.
- 1:50:04Speaker 5: But I think there's very few swing guys where you
- 1:50:08Speaker 5: can change their mind. I think more times than not,
- 1:50:11Speaker 5: it's kind of in the DNA, so to speak.
- 1:50:13Speaker 2: What it.
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I appreciate you being up, but I'm very right
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: when it comes to all this baseball talk.
- 1:50:17Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, Sam, how long if someone's picked in the
- 1:50:20Speaker 6: first round, what is like the average amount of time
- 1:50:21Speaker 6: it takes them to get to the big leagues.
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:50:23Speaker 5: I mean, we've got a kid now that it'll be
- 1:50:25Speaker 5: interesting to coach him because he said no to us
- 1:50:27Speaker 5: and committed to Alabama. But Bryce Eldridge is a guy
- 1:50:31Speaker 5: who's you know, twenty one years old probably and has
- 1:50:33Speaker 5: already seen what it looks like in the big leagues.
- 1:50:35Speaker 5: So again, that sequence can happen different for various guys.
- 1:50:39Speaker 5: But to go from high school to the big leagues,
- 1:50:41Speaker 5: you got your outliers like Brett Anderson was a left
- 1:50:45Speaker 5: handed pitcher, and Andrew Jones, who can make it it
- 1:50:47Speaker 5: Y're twenty twenty one. But I think on average it's
- 1:50:51Speaker 5: price six seven years really, so you know, and again
- 1:50:55Speaker 5: I'm throwing that out. All this stuff is just my
- 1:50:57Speaker 5: vantage point. There's other people you could bring on that
- 1:50:59Speaker 5: are either have variant opinions or are different experts. That's
- 1:51:03Speaker 5: cya but uh, but yeah, I think in general you're
- 1:51:07Speaker 5: looking at a long march into the big leagues. But
- 1:51:10Speaker 5: there's there's reasons why clubs can can show kids it's
- 1:51:14Speaker 5: an advantage to get into the organization and start your
- 1:51:17Speaker 5: pro career. And then there's also college coaches that can say, look,
- 1:51:21Speaker 5: if you're playing in the SEC, you're actually speeding up
- 1:51:24Speaker 5: the process to make it to the big leagues because
- 1:51:26Speaker 5: you're learning how to handle media and you know, compete
- 1:51:29Speaker 5: at a high level. Deal with fans knowing what you
- 1:51:31Speaker 5: got on your Instagram and yelling at you. And then
- 1:51:35Speaker 5: you've seen it too. There's proof in the pudding with
- 1:51:37Speaker 5: guys who almost go straight from our league to the
- 1:51:40Speaker 5: to the big leagues, whether it's Schimes or Christian more
- 1:51:43Speaker 5: guys like that.
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: What do you think you what will you miss most
- 1:51:46Speaker 1: about coaching college baseball?
- 1:51:47Speaker 5: I think just from seeing this weekend with a college
- 1:51:50Speaker 5: football Saturday, just the youthfulness, the youthful energy. Having said that,
- 1:51:55Speaker 5: there's a donor who lives here. Really good, dude. I'm
- 1:51:58Speaker 5: watching Game seven of the Blue Jays Mariners and he's
- 1:52:00Speaker 5: texting me because it had kind of gotten hot and
- 1:52:02Speaker 5: heavy at this point. You know, you're better around kids
- 1:52:06Speaker 5: and and that energy thing. And I'm watching the game
- 1:52:09Speaker 5: and I get that, and I agree with it. But
- 1:52:11Speaker 5: if you were watching Mariners versus Blue Jays Game seven
- 1:52:14Speaker 5: and you don't see two dugouts full of kids, you know,
- 1:52:18Speaker 5: and again, you guys have experienced it in pro sports
- 1:52:20Speaker 5: like it's recess. You're wearing a damn uniform.
- 1:52:23Speaker 6: And still playing, still having fun.
- 1:52:25Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, you're you're behaving as if you were a
- 1:52:27Speaker 5: kid and you're playing a kid's game. And then when
- 1:52:30Speaker 5: you take the uniform off. Your life is different because
- 1:52:32Speaker 5: you're an adult or you have a family. But I
- 1:52:34Speaker 5: think that's the essence of the fun moments of sports
- 1:52:37Speaker 5: as you get to see guys being in that character
- 1:52:39Speaker 5: of being a kid, but you're seeing it at the
- 1:52:42Speaker 5: highest level athlete.
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: Yeah, especially when you're in the playoffs. Why does MLB
- 1:52:47Speaker 1: one hundred and sixty two games?
- 1:52:48Speaker 6: Why do we do that? That's so many games?
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: Just so many?
- 1:52:56Speaker 5: How many games are college baseball fifty six regular season?
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: Ok?
- 1:53:00Speaker 5: And then of course you start the postseason with the
- 1:53:02Speaker 5: conference tournament all that, so you can end up playing
- 1:53:04Speaker 5: about seventy games if you have a successful year, maybe
- 1:53:06Speaker 5: a little bit more.
- 1:53:08Speaker 6: Earlier in the part you're talking about you starting off
- 1:53:10Speaker 6: slow and then getting real hot towards the end. Then
- 1:53:12Speaker 6: this past year is starting real hot and they kind
- 1:53:13Speaker 6: of being okay towards the end. How is it as
- 1:53:16Speaker 6: a coach manager like motivating guys when you have that
- 1:53:19Speaker 6: many games? Because football it's like every game kind of counts.
- 1:53:22Speaker 6: If you lose one, it's like, guys, we can't we
- 1:53:24Speaker 6: if we lose one. More like warnabat spot making the
- 1:53:27Speaker 6: playoffs with you, guys, it's like you drop three or four,
- 1:53:30Speaker 6: it's like, hey, who cares.
- 1:53:32Speaker 5: Right, well, the biggest thing is and that was something
- 1:53:36Speaker 5: people cautioning against me. Of a distaste for losing can
- 1:53:40Speaker 5: really hurt you if because even a good season, you'd
- 1:53:42Speaker 5: lose sixty games, So you better learn how to deal
- 1:53:45Speaker 5: with that. And again I haven't personally experienced it, but
- 1:53:47Speaker 5: in the college level, even at fifty six games, it's like,
- 1:53:50Speaker 5: we beat Alabama, Coach hypels good enough to have me
- 1:53:53Speaker 5: in the locker room, and the guys have cigars and
- 1:53:55Speaker 5: things like that. You can't You got a game the
- 1:53:58Speaker 5: next day, so you really can't do that baseball. And
- 1:54:01Speaker 5: then when you lose, you know, after a loss of
- 1:54:04Speaker 5: you prepared all week and it comes down to the
- 1:54:07Speaker 5: last play. I can only imagine how down of a
- 1:54:10Speaker 5: feeling that is as a coaching staff. Next morning, see
- 1:54:13Speaker 5: in the office at six am breakdown video. I'm sure
- 1:54:16Speaker 5: coach Eckler would just sleep there. You can't do that.
- 1:54:20Speaker 5: It's go home, get a good night's sleep. When you
- 1:54:22Speaker 5: take you know, the old one. One kind of mental
- 1:54:25Speaker 5: deal is when you take your jersey off, the game
- 1:54:27Speaker 5: is over. In baseball, some guys will roll with that.
- 1:54:29Speaker 5: So yeah, it's a lot, a lot bigger sample size,
- 1:54:32Speaker 5: and you got to learn to roll with the punches
- 1:54:33Speaker 5: a little bit more and you can't get as hyped
- 1:54:35Speaker 5: up as you as you do running out of the tunnel.
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: Dude, it is it is so fucking cool that you
- 1:54:41Speaker 1: were the first manager to kind of make this crack
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: into going from college to the MLB when you are
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: in your reflective stage, is your reflective state, Like, what
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: are some moments you look back on that you were
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: proud of that you persevered and stayed the course knowing
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: that you are now in this spot. It's I mean,
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: it's fucking awesome, bro, especially if if you're you.
- 1:55:00Speaker 6: Go on win World Series and like yeah, like the
- 1:55:04Speaker 6: ability you've had, you're like, hey, well see if it
- 1:55:05Speaker 6: works out and all that. It's like we all know
- 1:55:08Speaker 6: the competitor and he was like you, obviously you're going
- 1:55:10Speaker 6: to crush this. But it's like they're the guinea pig
- 1:55:12Speaker 6: and you're kind of figuring out, like is this gonna work?
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: Because if this.
- 1:55:14Speaker 6: Works out for you, you're opening up a door to
- 1:55:17Speaker 6: every college baseball coach and it's like it's a sick
- 1:55:20Speaker 6: opportunity that you're being able to pave the way and
- 1:55:23Speaker 6: be different than everybody else.
- 1:55:24Speaker 5: Now that's a source of energy too, that that other
- 1:55:27Speaker 5: people might be able to do something that they normally
- 1:55:29Speaker 5: wouldn't and it's it's not going to be me, it's
- 1:55:31Speaker 5: going to be just the general concept. And I think
- 1:55:33Speaker 5: there's starting to be an understanding of, yeah, I didn't
- 1:55:35Speaker 5: ride all the buses in the minor leagues where I
- 1:55:37Speaker 5: didn't have the talent to make it to the big leagues.
- 1:55:39Speaker 5: And I'm speaking on all college coaches, but the time
- 1:55:41Speaker 5: these guys have to invest in recruiting and learn how
- 1:55:44Speaker 5: to deal with people and watch games. I mean, you
- 1:55:47Speaker 5: watch five or six games on any given day in
- 1:55:49Speaker 5: the summer through recruiting, so you're around baseball as much
- 1:55:52Speaker 5: as anybody. So if there's a little bit stronger of
- 1:55:55Speaker 5: a bridge there, that would be pretty awesome to be
- 1:55:58Speaker 5: a part of. But you know, reflecting on what I
- 1:56:01Speaker 5: persevered through as a player, speaking of crying at Missouri,
- 1:56:04Speaker 5: there's a couple of times where I was just like,
- 1:56:06Speaker 5: I'm working my ass off and I'm not getting rewarded
- 1:56:09Speaker 5: the way that I should. Is this worth it? And
- 1:56:11Speaker 5: there were a couple of days where I was just
- 1:56:12Speaker 5: gonna quit as a player and I didn't, you know,
- 1:56:16Speaker 5: see it working out like this. But if I would
- 1:56:18Speaker 5: have quit as a player, it wouldn't have worked out
- 1:56:20Speaker 5: as a coach. And then two, as a coach, it's
- 1:56:23Speaker 5: kind of like being an insurance salesman recruiting. I've heard
- 1:56:26Speaker 5: know so many damn times. I think, again, you only
- 1:56:30Speaker 5: see the successes. So maybe people think it's different. But
- 1:56:32Speaker 5: even at Tennessee, you hear know all the time and
- 1:56:36Speaker 5: it's negative feedback and it can beat you up. So
- 1:56:39Speaker 5: to keep pushing through it is pretty huge. But yeah,
- 1:56:42Speaker 5: that was It would take me a while to reflect
- 1:56:44Speaker 5: on the whole career. There's there's a lot of ups
- 1:56:46Speaker 5: and down, strikes and gutters, as the big Lebowski says,
- 1:56:50Speaker 5: But you know, it's been been awesome to be a
- 1:56:52Speaker 5: part of some of the teams I've been around. And
- 1:56:54Speaker 5: ultimately it starts with players. So again, I think the
- 1:56:57Speaker 5: concept started of maybe a college coach, but it started
- 1:57:00Speaker 5: with them having an interest in our players. And then two,
- 1:57:04Speaker 5: I've gotten credit for being around guys like Kyle Gibson's
- 1:57:07Speaker 5: a major League All Star guy, coached any we could
- 1:57:10Speaker 5: go pick somebody up off the street, they could have
- 1:57:11Speaker 5: coached that guy. It was just fortunate enough to get
- 1:57:13Speaker 5: a yes from them in recruiting, you know. And Max
- 1:57:16Speaker 5: Scherzer is Max Scherzer. But every time I address a team,
- 1:57:20Speaker 5: I can bring him up because everybody knows him and
- 1:57:22Speaker 5: I'm friends with him, and I coached him, and you
- 1:57:25Speaker 5: can almost kind of take credit for some of the
- 1:57:26Speaker 5: things he's done. But you've seen that guy Pitch. I mean,
- 1:57:30Speaker 5: he is the definition of creating your own future.
- 1:57:33Speaker 1: Yeah, so that's sick man. You will be successful in
- 1:57:36Speaker 1: whatever moments you do reflect on a come up with
- 1:57:38Speaker 1: it can be part of your book one day. It
- 1:57:40Speaker 1: just won't you know, Wiley will not go bias that
- 1:57:42Speaker 1: we got to have him on the bus. Yeah, as
- 1:57:45Speaker 1: you're going in the majors. And not only that, but
- 1:57:46Speaker 1: we got to sit with you like before you went
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: on that the national title run and out. It's to me,
- 1:57:51Speaker 1: it's just sick that you you we have this relationship
- 1:57:55Speaker 1: and you've allowed us to interview you and you've came
- 1:57:56Speaker 1: on the bus, and when you are fucking successful one
- 1:57:59Speaker 1: day and you do win the World World Series, like
- 1:58:01Speaker 1: I know, for us this will be this would.
- 1:58:02Speaker 6: Just be a you talking about taking credit for what
- 1:58:05Speaker 6: some guys have done, like your perfect example for us,
- 1:58:07Speaker 6: when you win a world series, We're like, look what
- 1:58:09Speaker 6: we did, yeah, the three of us, Yeah, taking credit,
- 1:58:14Speaker 6: we helped Will Will the Giants into a world series.
- 1:58:17Speaker 5: Well let's say, okay, if we are going to Manifest
- 1:58:20Speaker 5: or whatever, and we win a world series, if you
- 1:58:22Speaker 5: guys get to be in the clubhouse with the champagne
- 1:58:25Speaker 5: and everything, what is that worth dollar wise? Do you
- 1:58:27Speaker 5: see that?
- 1:58:28Speaker 1: Man?
- 1:58:28Speaker 6: Like, that's a good million.
- 1:58:30Speaker 1: Put me some five.
- 1:58:34Speaker 6: That might be worth five hundred. Put the cool goggles dropping,
- 1:58:37Speaker 6: dropping the it's ridiculous, like snowboarding goggles.
- 1:58:40Speaker 5: Now I remember the I mean you were out there
- 1:58:43Speaker 5: and you threw out that first pitch and I was like, well,
- 1:58:45Speaker 5: ship didn't or do you have eligibility? Or but then
- 1:58:48Speaker 5: did you have again I'm not on social.
- 1:58:50Speaker 6: Media, yeah you know on social media, but go ahead.
- 1:58:53Speaker 5: Then there was there one that wasn't a successful Yeah
- 1:58:56Speaker 5: you know, I'm not being facetious. I'm trying to because
- 1:58:58Speaker 5: the one looks like.
- 1:58:59Speaker 1: A good, big long lefty when he threw that first
- 1:59:01Speaker 1: pitch here and now it.
- 1:59:02Speaker 5: Was good, really good.
- 1:59:03Speaker 6: Thank you, And you brought that up because everyone wants
- 1:59:05Speaker 6: to look at Saint Louis and be like, that's the
- 1:59:07Speaker 6: sample size. Like people forget what happened in Tennessee. Here's
- 1:59:11Speaker 6: what happened. I tasted the success, sure, and I felt
- 1:59:15Speaker 6: good about it. A couple of your your guys and
- 1:59:17Speaker 6: the volunteers not bad. You know, used to throw a
- 1:59:20Speaker 6: little bit back in the day. So we go to
- 1:59:22Speaker 6: this Cardinals game and I'm thinking, I'm just gonna throw
- 1:59:24Speaker 6: as hard as I can. I'm gonna try to throw heat,
- 1:59:26Speaker 6: get on like ESPN Top ten and yeah, got away
- 1:59:30Speaker 6: from me, got away from me. Didn't bring it around. Yeah,
- 1:59:32Speaker 6: And can I be honest? Since that day, I've had
- 1:59:35Speaker 6: the yips well to where we go and we go
- 1:59:37Speaker 6: to the Royals game and I throw one that's a
- 1:59:41Speaker 6: little too high and it's better than that one, but
- 1:59:43Speaker 6: it's like, what are Let's get back to the basics.
- 1:59:45Speaker 1: Sure, So working on the side, he gets the ball
- 1:59:47Speaker 1: in his hand and you feel the confidence. But the
- 1:59:49Speaker 1: moment you step in the big leagues, Yeah, got that
- 1:59:51Speaker 1: ball in his hands, that could just start shaking.
- 1:59:53Speaker 6: I'm gonna yeah, I'm I'm a triple A guy. I'm
- 1:59:55Speaker 6: never gonna do that. I'm a dude. That's gonna ride
- 1:59:58Speaker 6: the bus for fifteen twenty years.
- 2:00:00Speaker 5: I don't have all the answers, but I'm in Nashville,
- 2:00:01Speaker 5: so maybe we need to play cats a little bit.
- 2:00:04Speaker 6: I should have called you during this process.
- 2:00:06Speaker 5: You know, the if anyone's listening out there that has
- 2:00:09Speaker 5: that opportunity. The number one advice I would say is
- 2:00:11Speaker 5: don't try and throw it hard. And you did better
- 2:00:15Speaker 5: than like fifty cent tried to throw hard and he's
- 2:00:17Speaker 5: muscled up, and Connor McGregor tried to do the same thing.
- 2:00:20Speaker 5: So yeah, just a little feel, a little touch pass if.
- 2:00:22Speaker 6: Yeah. Well that's the thing though, is we It would
- 2:00:25Speaker 6: be very easy for me after that Cardinals game to
- 2:00:27Speaker 6: go and just kind of throw a muffin, get it
- 2:00:29Speaker 6: in there, no problem. But it's like, am I going
- 2:00:31Speaker 6: to take that way? Or I have to like kind
- 2:00:32Speaker 6: of keep the same process. Yeah, and I have to
- 2:00:35Speaker 6: conquer throwing hard.
- 2:00:38Speaker 5: Yeah, we're gonna have to.
- 2:00:40Speaker 6: Maybe after this podcast we get out there. We had
- 2:00:42Speaker 6: a couple gloves, you give me, Just give me a
- 2:00:44Speaker 6: couple of pointers. Throw the ball ten fifteen times.
- 2:00:46Speaker 5: I should have brought all these materials. I'm upset the
- 2:00:48Speaker 5: no suitcase with the IOUs should have brought a ball
- 2:00:51Speaker 5: on some gloves.
- 2:00:52Speaker 6: That's right. I can guarantee we'll be out in San
- 2:00:54Speaker 6: France sometime. Yeah, I can guarantee that for you. Bring
- 2:00:56Speaker 6: it on, We'll be out. I think we're officially a
- 2:00:59Speaker 6: bus with the boys. Uh, San Francisco Giants fans, right
- 2:01:02Speaker 6: we are.
- 2:01:02Speaker 5: Now, I'll send some gear. Yeah, you know spooky now
- 2:01:10Speaker 5: that Super bowls in San Francisco, right, Yes, will you
- 2:01:13Speaker 5: guys set up shop out there doing anything?
- 2:01:14Speaker 6: We will be out there.
- 2:01:15Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll be out there. We haven't got said in
- 2:01:17Speaker 1: stone yet.
- 2:01:18Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, we can arrange that. I've got an I
- 2:01:28Speaker 5: don't know that I should. Gabe Capler. Uh, there there's
- 2:01:32Speaker 5: a place that's been talked about.
- 2:01:34Speaker 2: Uh.
- 2:01:35Speaker 5: You know, Bob Melvin was the last manager and I
- 2:01:37Speaker 5: didn't get say it in the press conference, shame on me.
- 2:01:39Speaker 5: But he reached out to me and was a class
- 2:01:41Speaker 5: act and uh was very helpful. And then the manager
- 2:01:45Speaker 5: before him was Gabe Capler. And Uh, Gabe is in
- 2:01:48Speaker 5: pretty good shape and I think I think enjoyed the city.
- 2:01:52Speaker 5: So I'll explain how that involves a living arrangement. War off.
- 2:01:56Speaker 6: The sounds like we have a big enough place to stay,
- 2:02:00Speaker 6: will we come out.
- 2:02:01Speaker 5: We'll make sure that happens anyway. But yeah, there's the
- 2:02:03Speaker 5: official invitation, and man, what a cool I want to
- 2:02:07Speaker 5: see that stadium as well. I mean our park. You
- 2:02:09Speaker 5: guys will absolutely fall in love with. But I want
- 2:02:11Speaker 5: to go out there. And John Lynch reached out right
- 2:02:14Speaker 5: away obviously he's involved in the organization. Great dude. And
- 2:02:17Speaker 5: then if I can meet coach Shanahan because those guys
- 2:02:20Speaker 5: like Al Wilson and Peyton that know him through you
- 2:02:22Speaker 5: know his father with the Broncos. I always asked about
- 2:02:25Speaker 5: him and they say, the guy's an absolute superstar.
- 2:02:28Speaker 1: You got a great football team that would very much
- 2:02:30Speaker 1: probably rally around the Giants. Yeah, good crew, good locker room,
- 2:02:33Speaker 1: good locker room.
- 2:02:34Speaker 5: I probably shouldn't have it, but I was given George
- 2:02:37Speaker 5: Kittle's number, and uh, boy, would be fun to take
- 2:02:40Speaker 5: part in some shenanigans with that guy. Have you reached
- 2:02:43Speaker 5: out to George yet, Well, it was a group message.
- 2:02:46Speaker 6: Got so Yeah. Yeah, George is the perfect guy. He's
- 2:02:48Speaker 6: the type of dude that he get dms from guys
- 2:02:51Speaker 6: and become friends with them. Yeah, and they'll be at
- 2:02:53Speaker 6: his part his Uh, George Hittlefest.
- 2:02:55Speaker 1: Yeah, and not just dms from guys. I'm talking like
- 2:02:57Speaker 1: this is like meme group DM. Yeah. People he doesn't
- 2:03:00Speaker 1: know that, like Xbox fans, and they'll be out at
- 2:03:03Speaker 1: kittle Fest because he's like, oh, you're my guy, George,
- 2:03:08Speaker 1: Like and I'll be go, how'd you meet George? Like, Oh,
- 2:03:10Speaker 1: we're on the same kind of like Xbox team. Like
- 2:03:13Speaker 1: we just kind of DM every week and people drop
- 2:03:15Speaker 1: like different just memes in the DM, and Georgia will
- 2:03:17Speaker 1: respond and now they're out of here at kittle Fest
- 2:03:19Speaker 1: in Nashville.
- 2:03:20Speaker 6: Yeah, so George, George is he's the perfect guy. The
- 2:03:23Speaker 6: forty nine ers.
- 2:03:23Speaker 5: That's a true clubhouse team. That's why every kid should
- 2:03:26Speaker 5: at least be on one, you know, take part in
- 2:03:28Speaker 5: one team sport. Yeah, glovehouse mentality. It sounds like he's
- 2:03:32Speaker 5: the definition of it. What the hell's kittle Fest?
- 2:03:35Speaker 1: Kittle Fest? Yeah, yeah, kittle Fest where Yeah, it's Kittlefest.
- 2:03:40Speaker 1: You don't know how to explain it.
- 2:03:41Speaker 6: But every year is a different theme. It's out of
- 2:03:43Speaker 6: his farm, food trucks, jelly roll. He just randomly comes
- 2:03:47Speaker 6: in place.
- 2:03:47Speaker 1: Yeah, people performing beer games. George just throws a party.
- 2:03:51Speaker 5: That's awesome. Yeah, Jelly roll Man, that guy says something
- 2:03:54Speaker 5: to you. Even it was just a regular sentence, it
- 2:03:56Speaker 5: feels like a sermon. It's awesome. I have to have
- 2:04:00Speaker 5: him speak to the team if we if we go
- 2:04:02Speaker 5: through any poor streaks.
- 2:04:03Speaker 6: Absolutely, he is the nicest guy ever.
- 2:04:06Speaker 1: Yes he does. We want to him with the bud
- 2:04:08Speaker 1: Light questions. Go what an opportunity for him to say.
- 2:04:10Speaker 1: I'd be willing to give my entire salary to you
- 2:04:12Speaker 1: guys if we win the World series. Yeah, but we
- 2:04:14Speaker 1: can hit him with the bud Light questions. So bud
- 2:04:16Speaker 1: Light people would do anything for an ice cold bud light?
- 2:04:20Speaker 5: Absolutely, what is.
- 2:04:21Speaker 1: Something that you would do anything for.
- 2:04:25Speaker 5: I wouldn't stand in front of a gun with Kid Rock,
- 2:04:27Speaker 5: that's for sure. It was just Halloween for an ice
- 2:04:35Speaker 5: cold bud light. I'd be willing to go back to
- 2:04:37Speaker 5: my I didn't wear a costume this year, but kind
- 2:04:40Speaker 5: of the one that I regret or look back on
- 2:04:43Speaker 5: the most was Kramer and Seinfeld once was trying to
- 2:04:46Speaker 5: be an underwear model. So there was one time I
- 2:04:49Speaker 5: roamed the streets of Columbia, Missouri with just tidy whities
- 2:04:53Speaker 5: and some Doc Martins or some shoes. So I'd revisit
- 2:04:57Speaker 5: that Halloween costume for an ice cold butler.
- 2:04:59Speaker 6: Hey, yeah, that's a good one.
- 2:05:03Speaker 1: Columbia, Missouri.
- 2:05:04Speaker 5: It's a fun town. Yeah, it's a fun town.
- 2:05:07Speaker 1: It's part of some interesting teams.
- 2:05:08Speaker 5: It's a little chilli. Yeah, a lot of personalities there,
- 2:05:12Speaker 5: and yeah it's interesting. I like the loyalty thing and
- 2:05:15Speaker 5: being a part of one place. But when you explore
- 2:05:19Speaker 5: new areas, you meet people that you never would have met,
- 2:05:21Speaker 5: and you pick up on different cultures. And I look
- 2:05:24Speaker 5: back on the four colleges I worked at and wouldn't
- 2:05:27Speaker 5: have it any other way.
- 2:05:29Speaker 1: So to juice up the Seinfeld clip, would you be
- 2:05:33Speaker 1: willing to throw us an image of you back again?
- 2:05:37Speaker 5: Is this an off air thing or is this going.
- 2:05:39Speaker 6: On on social media?
- 2:05:42Speaker 1: Now?
- 2:05:42Speaker 5: I can't, I can't. I gotta do something between now
- 2:05:45Speaker 5: and spring training. I gotta get in shape if I'm
- 2:05:46Speaker 5: gonna be in uniform around these guys. But back then
- 2:05:50Speaker 5: I was in decent shape. But I don't think it
- 2:05:52Speaker 5: was anything to brag about and have the whole world
- 2:05:54Speaker 5: looking at that's for sure.
- 2:05:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll handle this is a throwback photo. I'm wondering
- 2:06:04Speaker 1: the streets and tidy whities.
- 2:06:06Speaker 6: Yeah, well, dude, congrats on your success.
- 2:06:09Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 2:06:09Speaker 6: This is it's awesome ground floor.
- 2:06:12Speaker 5: I appreciate it.
- 2:06:13Speaker 1: And thank you for taking the time to come here.
- 2:06:15Speaker 5: No, this is awesome. Anyone would ever get a chance
- 2:06:17Speaker 5: to do this, UH would be floored. And you know,
- 2:06:21Speaker 5: Coach Eckler was good enough to to hook us up
- 2:06:23Speaker 5: a few years back and fortunately went well enough. I
- 2:06:25Speaker 5: didn't screw it up, but you know, you guys had
- 2:06:28Speaker 5: floated the invite. I knew something crazy had to happen
- 2:06:31Speaker 5: to actually step foot on this bad boy, and uh,
- 2:06:34Speaker 5: I appreciate it. Maybe maybe one day down the road
- 2:06:37Speaker 5: we can do it again. Scottsdale, Arizona the the mecca.
- 2:06:44Speaker 5: And uh, I've never got to do the waste management thing.
- 2:06:47Speaker 5: My buddies do that every year. And I'm in a groove.
- 2:06:49Speaker 5: Text Bruce Bochi, you know he was another guy these
- 2:06:53Speaker 5: man like, I'm blown away because you know, on the
- 2:06:56Speaker 5: SEC there's high level of respect, but you're at each
- 2:06:59Speaker 5: other's three wrote more than you want to be. And
- 2:07:02Speaker 5: I got the job, and all these guys reached out
- 2:07:03Speaker 5: to me with either text messages or phone calls. Managers
- 2:07:08Speaker 5: now in the MLB or former managers. And Bruce Bochi
- 2:07:11Speaker 5: he was with the Giants and with Buster. He lives
- 2:07:13Speaker 5: here and I was able to sit with him. But
- 2:07:15Speaker 5: one of the things he said a lot of great advice,
- 2:07:18Speaker 5: but maybe the thing that jumped out the most was
- 2:07:20Speaker 5: he said, Scottsdale, Arizona during spring training is like Marty Grass.
- 2:07:23Speaker 6: It is, dude, it's a zoo I grew I mean,
- 2:07:26Speaker 6: I grew up in Arizona and every time every spring
- 2:07:28Speaker 6: training it was like a flood of people coming in,
- 2:07:31Speaker 6: always something to do, somewhere to go. You're gonna love
- 2:07:33Speaker 6: old town Scottsdale. And if I could just give you
- 2:07:35Speaker 6: a piece of advice, if you want a team bonding experience, yes,
- 2:07:39Speaker 6: take your boys to Zips. Go to Zip. Hey, Am
- 2:07:43Speaker 6: I wrong? Hey?
- 2:07:46Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 2:07:46Speaker 1: Get some golden wings.
- 2:07:48Speaker 6: Call Zips, tell rent out this place, get yourself some
- 2:07:52Speaker 6: golden wings for the boys, some Monaco ficasias. You get
- 2:07:55Speaker 6: the whole.
- 2:07:55Speaker 1: Team in there.
- 2:07:56Speaker 6: But you're gonna spend twelve hundred bucks to feed your
- 2:07:59Speaker 6: entire team, but you're gonna walk away with full bellies
- 2:08:01Speaker 6: and full hearts. You guys might win it all based
- 2:08:02Speaker 6: off of this one experience.
- 2:08:04Speaker 5: We will set that up one hundred percent and we'll come.
- 2:08:06Speaker 1: How awesome would that be. It's like the players are
- 2:08:08Speaker 1: like coach apparently has some nice dinner. Yeah, Jop's the location.
- 2:08:12Speaker 6: They pull up Zips Sports Bar and he's just like
- 2:08:14Speaker 6: Taylor told me to go here.
- 2:08:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:08:16Speaker 6: Yeah, but that well, zim Zip sent us a gift
- 2:08:19Speaker 6: card for two and fifty dollars, which is like a
- 2:08:21Speaker 6: month worth of Zips. And we have talked about like
- 2:08:24Speaker 6: flying into Arizona for one day just to get Zips
- 2:08:27Speaker 6: and come back.
- 2:08:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:08:28Speaker 6: But now spring training, boys.
- 2:08:30Speaker 5: Let's go training. And then also, so those guys are
- 2:08:33Speaker 5: training for the for the big league season. You come down.
- 2:08:36Speaker 5: You trained for a first pitch in spring training.
- 2:08:39Speaker 6: I love it?
- 2:08:40Speaker 1: And we finished.
- 2:08:41Speaker 5: Ready, Yeah, the real game in San Francisco.
- 2:08:43Speaker 1: I would love.
- 2:08:44Speaker 5: Yeah, Zips is the icing.
- 2:08:45Speaker 6: Zips is icing on the cake. We're going to a
- 2:08:47Speaker 6: full day of training. Get the elbow nice and sore,
- 2:08:49Speaker 6: then we're gonna go feed some Zips. That elbow be
- 2:08:51Speaker 6: just fine. It's gonna be awesome.
- 2:08:54Speaker 1: You can just tell them we got a couple of
- 2:08:55Speaker 1: sponsors that lined us.
- 2:08:57Speaker 6: Yeah, bring all the fellas Man Center on the boys. Hey,
- 2:09:02Speaker 6: that's I'm telling you.
- 2:09:04Speaker 1: I'm telling you, Chef before we get off for Jack.
- 2:09:07Speaker 1: Any questions for Coach b being sick o all fans.
- 2:09:11Speaker 6: Uh, not a question.
- 2:09:12Speaker 10: But thanks You truly embody what it is to be
- 2:09:15Speaker 10: a Tennessee ball and took Tennessee baseball into the forefront,
- 2:09:18Speaker 10: brought us first Natty truly incredible. The whole fan base,
- 2:09:21Speaker 10: I can wholeheartedly speak for them. We will miss you
- 2:09:24Speaker 10: and wish you the best of luck with the Giants.
- 2:09:26Speaker 10: And yeah, I'll be telling the giants now moving forward,
- 2:09:29Speaker 10: so GBO and whatever the go Giants.
- 2:09:32Speaker 5: So thank you for I appreciate it.
- 2:09:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:09:36Speaker 4: Also thanks here. You're actually the reason I have a
- 2:09:38Speaker 4: job here. I did the documentary on Hunter I don't
- 2:09:40Speaker 4: know if you remember, and I interviewed you. That's the reason, Jared,
- 2:09:44Speaker 4: when I was an intern, he said, just off of
- 2:09:47Speaker 4: that alone is kind of how I got started here.
- 2:09:49Speaker 4: So appreciate it. Appreciate everything I did. Ball Baseball has
- 2:09:53Speaker 4: been such a great like since you got there and
- 2:09:56Speaker 4: turned the program into what it is now. It's added
- 2:09:59Speaker 4: just another sport that we get excited for and it feels,
- 2:10:02Speaker 4: you know, anything that we can root on the Orange
- 2:10:04Speaker 4: and White is the best thank you and best of luck.
- 2:10:07Speaker 5: Yeah, well, thank you man. That's a cool story and
- 2:10:09Speaker 5: you did the work, so it's it.
- 2:10:11Speaker 1: Goes to show you even know that with the documentary.
- 2:10:14Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, I mean, if you do good work, someone's
- 2:10:16Speaker 5: gonna notice. So good on you for that to happen.
- 2:10:19Speaker 5: But I'm glad we had a part in it, and
- 2:10:21Speaker 5: overall just it almost like anytime you're talking to a
- 2:10:24Speaker 5: ball fan, you feel like you're talking to the whole group.
- 2:10:26Speaker 5: It's just a representative at that So as far as
- 2:10:29Speaker 5: that exchange goes, I got more out of it than
- 2:10:31Speaker 5: anyone else did. And it couldn't have happened without all
- 2:10:35Speaker 5: the ingredients are there in a great city, obviously phenomenal
- 2:10:39Speaker 5: place in the fan base. And then you mix in
- 2:10:41Speaker 5: college baseball. If you haven't been to a college baseball
- 2:10:44Speaker 5: game and you're listening, you gotta go, no matter where
- 2:10:46Speaker 5: it is. It's become a party and it's a lot
- 2:10:48Speaker 5: of fun and you're seeing future big leaguers for a
- 2:10:50Speaker 5: much cheaper price. You know, not that there's anything wrong
- 2:10:54Speaker 5: with the San Francisco Giants prices, but no apreciation as
- 2:11:00Speaker 5: mutual and dude, Walk, I didn't know my dad's like,
- 2:11:03Speaker 5: how was the feedback or whatever? Because he cares and
- 2:11:05Speaker 5: you got to grow thick skin. But I went back
- 2:11:07Speaker 5: to the football game Saturday and just entering the stadium
- 2:11:10Speaker 5: stuff that people were saying on the street. I was like,
- 2:11:13Speaker 5: again to use the tears theme, Like, I was like,
- 2:11:15Speaker 5: I gotta duck my head and get in the stadium
- 2:11:17Speaker 5: because this is emotionally overwhelming and people don't have to
- 2:11:21Speaker 5: do that. So I appreciate it.
- 2:11:24Speaker 4: I think part of it Josh Lander stepping in. I
- 2:11:26Speaker 4: think a lot of people have trust in him, And
- 2:11:28Speaker 4: do you want to speak anything on that? And kind
- 2:11:31Speaker 4: of yeah, tell volls fans what they can expect. I've
- 2:11:34Speaker 4: heard some really cool stories about him being in Canada
- 2:11:37Speaker 4: and wildfires or maybe it was California and drove home
- 2:11:39Speaker 4: for like his wife's he was doing recruiting, wife pregnant,
- 2:11:44Speaker 4: and then got back out like just these crazy hard ethics,
- 2:11:47Speaker 4: hard work ethics stories. Do you have anything you can
- 2:11:49Speaker 4: attest to that?
- 2:11:50Speaker 5: Yeah, to a fault going back and forth and being
- 2:11:53Speaker 5: on top of the recruiting thing, for sure, But no,
- 2:11:56Speaker 5: that was I feel like, you know, again the hat,
- 2:12:00Speaker 5: I feel like I'm still a part of all nation,
- 2:12:02Speaker 5: but really truly being a part of a victory that
- 2:12:05Speaker 5: was the last victory I was a part of, and
- 2:12:07Speaker 5: it was a small part of it.
- 2:12:09Speaker 1: Really.
- 2:12:09Speaker 5: It was the player spoke up, the agents that he
- 2:12:12Speaker 5: worked with, the summer coaches, the players that are in
- 2:12:14Speaker 5: our recruiting classes. He was the guy that was heading
- 2:12:17Speaker 5: all that up. And you know, just because there were
- 2:12:20Speaker 5: some moments maybe you accidentally touch an umpire or bump
- 2:12:24Speaker 5: into an umpire, I should say, you get a little
- 2:12:27Speaker 5: more attention than you deserve. There was a massive group
- 2:12:31Speaker 5: effort in that building to try and get the thing,
- 2:12:34Speaker 5: you know, going, and he was just a big of
- 2:12:36Speaker 5: a part of it as any. So he's the right leader,
- 2:12:40Speaker 5: but there's also the right players on the field. And
- 2:12:42Speaker 5: then also it'll keep that culture going. And there's something,
- 2:12:46Speaker 5: like I said, consistency of that culture. Tennessee baseball, for
- 2:12:49Speaker 5: whatever reason, has a vibe and the fans contribute to it.
- 2:12:53Speaker 5: So the fact that ViBe's gonna keep rolling fires me up,
- 2:12:56Speaker 5: should fire everybody else up to.
- 2:12:58Speaker 1: YEA, yeah, before we get off, do you have a
- 2:13:02Speaker 1: piece of advice that you've latched onto as you're making
- 2:13:04Speaker 1: this transition.
- 2:13:06Speaker 5: Again, I think, make a decision and do it like
- 2:13:09Speaker 5: hell was something that a family we talked about earlier
- 2:13:13Speaker 5: kept kept revisiting with me. And and the thing I've
- 2:13:16Speaker 5: always latched onto from a mentor of mind with these
- 2:13:19Speaker 5: recruits is the right decision is the one you make,
- 2:13:23Speaker 5: you know, unless you look back on it or your
- 2:13:25Speaker 5: second guess or you regret things. So those are somewhat
- 2:13:29Speaker 5: corny ones, but I think impactful at this point. But
- 2:13:32Speaker 5: more than anything, I'm just gonna enjoy it. Again. I'm
- 2:13:35Speaker 5: the guinea pig, so whichever way it goes, I'm blessed
- 2:13:38Speaker 5: to be able to experience it. And the organization has
- 2:13:41Speaker 5: blown me away so far and how they do things,
- 2:13:43Speaker 5: So I'm gonna learn a lot and have fun doing it.
- 2:13:46Speaker 5: And we'll see if we win enough games for you
- 2:13:48Speaker 5: guys to be in the locker room one day. Appreciate it.
- 2:13:54Speaker 6: Thank you, a pause, thank you. That's what the Boys
