- Greg: Hello and happy Friday. Welcome to the March 20th, 2026 and latest episode of Beliefs, Ballots and Bets. Our theme of the day is, what can we actually trust? Let's recap yesterday's betting results. We actually went one on one. We released three plays, but the Akron play, must have misread the schedule. The Akron play ⁓ is not until today. So today we'll actually end up with four plays. So hopefully we had read the the the awful kissing your sister split of two and two Let's get a winning day and let's let's get momentum going We look we lost the UNC bet I feel good about it from what I saw I don't necessarily think it was a bad play ⁓ UNC controlled a lot of that game and and then BC you just got hot at the end force it to overtime ⁓ It's part of it. They call it March Madness for a reason chalk that one up. You're gonna lose some If I know what I know now, I think I'd still take UNC minus the two and a half and play that again given the same situation. we take the loss and we move on with that one. The other one which I jokingly said was the lock, which we all know in gambling there are no such thing as locks. St. Louis over my dogs. ⁓ Yeah, we won that bet. Not gonna talk a whole lot about it. We got killed. It hurt. ⁓ They did what Georgia basketball does. And for those of you who happen to share the agony of being a Georgia basketball fan, we felt like we were on the right track this year. Mike White gave us a fun team to watch. We thought maybe there was a chance of making a little bit of noise. But as usual, the dogs basketball team fell flat on her face. But hey, spring football practice is underway. The baseball team looks pretty good and we'll just stick to the sports we're good at. So. One and one yesterday, still working to get better. And that's the name of the game. It's a marathon, not a sprint, as they say. We're gonna stay disciplined, we're not gonna chase, and we're gonna trust the process. ⁓ So let's get to today's board. Let's try to find some picks and some numbers that we trust. And we're gonna go with a theme, and the theme on trust is trusting the numbers, not the name. We got a couple of plays today that will follow that theme. First play is let's get started is the 10-7 matchup. Now, for those of you who have followed the March Madness tournament anywhere near as long as I have, it seems to me like the 10-7 and the 5-12 seems to be where seeds just don't matter. Those seeds are evenly split and the wins and losses seem to be pretty even and a 10-7 doesn't exactly feel like an upset, but they're slight dog. Give me Santa Clara plus two and a half against Kentucky. That's an early tip off at 12-15. It's hard not to take Kentucky to take that name to take that blue jersey in a tournament like this in March. But I just I think it's I think the wrong team's favorite. I think Santa Clara is a better team. I think they've been more consistent this year. Give me Santa Clara plus plus the two and a half against Kentucky. Play number two of the day. We're to go with Utah State plus one and a half against Villanova. Another similar situation. It is it is hard this time of year to back Utah State over Villanova just in name only. ⁓ But sometimes you got to trust the numbers and not the names and that is our theme of the day. We are going to trust the numbers and we're going to play Utah State plus one and a half over Villanova. And then our final play is we're to go with Iowa and Clemson and I think the total is sitting at 131 or 130 and a half. We're going to go with the under ⁓ little honesty here. It might be biased. I've been betting Iowa unders in college football for so darn long that maybe that's just kind of plugged in the back of my mind somewhere. So Iowa Clemson under 130 and a half. I do see it being a slow pace game. Neither one of these offenses is really good. Clemson has been really good defensive most of the year, although they've struggled a little bit late. I think Iowa is the better team. I think it'll be a close tight game, but I think it'll be some slow possessions and low possessions. And I think we'll come in under the 130 and a half. So that's it. That's the three plays of the day. Just remember, like betting and in life, if you don't trust the process, you end up chasing feelings and emotions and that's rarely a good thing. Let's switch gears a little bit. We're all quite aware of how much misinformation is out there for us to consume these days. Obviously, anybody that spends any time online is aware of just the inherent lack of trust. I'm guilty. I trust almost nothing I see online. We all feel it all around us. ⁓ And it's just like everybody's lying and perfectly okay with it. And then you get to the point where it seems these days people just are far more willing to trust certain narratives and certain storylines as opposed to trying to determine, you know, what is the actual truth? Let's find the actual truth and trust that. Society these days and in particular social media have created an environment where people no longer seem to even want the truth. They just want validation of their own thoughts, feelings and opinions. And Lord knows if you disagree and don't give them the reinforcement they're looking for, well, you're just wrong. There is no thought that you might be right. You're wrong if you don't agree with them. And when you stop and really think about all this, most of what we consume these days is so far from unoriginal or organic or genuine. All it is, is people regurgitating thoughts and feelings that they read or heard someone else say on another platform. Why would we trust any of that? None of it's real and very little of it's even true. So what can you trust? We can trust God. We can always trust God. In fact, the Bible tells us we should trust God over trusting ourselves. And that's a whole lot easier say than it is to do. It's really hard to live that life and it shows up in the decisions we make more so than the words we choose to say. You can say one thing, but the actions you exhibit really tell people whether you follow God or not. It's a crazy world that we live in, and sometimes it's not always easy to know what God's answers for certain situations are. What would the Bible say about certain things? One thing I've learned over the last 10 or 15 years on my spiritual journey is a lot of it's like sports and athletics. It's about the practice. If you just routinely commit to spending some time in prayer, spending some time reading the scripture, spend some time just outside, just quiet time, connecting with nature and trying to listen for God's presence. More often than not, I believe that he gives you the answers. He provides you the thoughts and he provides you the things you need to have the clarity to know what's true and to make the decisions that you need to make to live the life that ultimately I think we all want to live. Remember, The of this life is to get to spend eternity with God. And the answer to that is getting in your Bibles, saying your prayers, and focusing on putting Him at the center of your life. Trust what's true, not what's loud. Slow down, get in your Bibles, and say your prayers. Love you guys. God bless.
