Transcript
- 0:00Hello, hello everybody. Hi, welcome back to the CAT Scan
- 0:05Guru podcast. I am so excited that I am back
- 0:09recording episodes again. So it has been a wild ride, OK?
- 0:16And I'm just going to get into all the things that have
- 0:18happened since my previous episode and just kind of, you
- 0:22know, get you up to speed on what's going on and all the
- 0:25exciting things that are going to happen.
- 0:27OK, so First off, I had to take a little bit of a break.
- 0:31I know I took a little bit of a break earlier this year.
- 0:35I needed to take another break because my children, you know,
- 0:37are now back in school and things are really ramping up and
- 0:41I've had to make some really tough decisions, you know,
- 0:45career wise, as far as business wise and things like that.
- 0:49So, and I'm trying to kind of navigate life.
- 0:53My relationship that you guys have heard me talk about on the
- 0:57podcast did end. Fortunately, I still very much
- 1:01care about this person and regardless if he listens to this
- 1:04or not, who knows? It's been a very difficult
- 1:09situation. So I kind of had to take a step
- 1:11away and just kind of regroup myself and get myself in a good
- 1:15headspace so I can continue doing the things that I love.
- 1:18So those are kind of the things that have been happening.
- 1:20So of course, this podcast did get a nice rebrand.
- 1:24So change the name of, you know, direction a little bit more
- 1:28spicy and just diving into all the CT content.
- 1:31So one thing I will mention is is that make sure you follow on
- 1:36TikTok because I am starting to do more protocol videos.
- 1:40Make sure you follow the YouTube channel, subscribe to the
- 1:43YouTube channel because I'm starting to put some really long
- 1:46form content and just diving into making sure that you guys
- 1:49have awesome resources and protocols and things like that
- 1:53to navigate your training and your career in CT.
- 1:58So make sure you guys check those out.
- 1:59OK? All my TikTok videos, I do go
- 2:02ahead and repurpose them to Instagram.
- 2:03So make sure you follow on Instagram as well.
- 2:05So check all that stuff out because I am coming out with
- 2:09some new material. So I have come out or I do have
- 2:11a new platform. I do have three courses that are
- 2:15available to you. All my courses are very
- 2:17affordable to everybody. I do have a 10 episode audio
- 2:20series too. So it's the CT tech cheat code.
- 2:23You can dominate training. You can listen to all that on
- 2:26the go. You can even listen to the
- 2:28courses on the go. So if you're interested in any
- 2:30of that, link is below where you can go ahead and get those
- 2:33courses available to you. So like I said, they're very
- 2:37affordable for everybody. It's not a heavy lift.
- 2:39So and I do have them in my school community that is a paid
- 2:43community. So make sure you guys check that
- 2:45out. OK, so one of the other things
- 2:48that is happening as well is, is that I have posted a video today
- 2:52on TikTok. Make sure you go check it out
- 2:54that I am kind of doing some more lifestyle healing journey
- 2:59kind of content because I kind of sprinkle it in on my CT page.
- 3:03But what I've decided to do is I've decided to divide it and
- 3:06start a new TikTok page. So as soon as that is ready to
- 3:09go, I will go ahead and post that for you on my TikTok
- 3:13platform and on Instagram. So you guys know.
- 3:16So I kind of decided to do that because I've gone through some
- 3:20stuff and I'm also preparing to do the winter art starting
- 3:24October 1st. And on this new page, I am going
- 3:27to document that whole journey. So if you followed along on
- 3:30TikTok last year, I did document that entire winter art journey
- 3:35on my TikTok page where I got some fucking amazing results and
- 3:38I accomplished what I set out to do.
- 3:40And that was to get to a certain goal weight.
- 3:43And I hit that weight. So and my physique has just
- 3:47increased so much better in the gym and people are really
- 3:50noticing it. So that makes it kind of right.
- 3:53So make sure you check all that out and make sure you subscribe
- 3:57and share it with somebody who needs to listen to it.
- 3:59OK, now let's dive into today's episode because I love to make
- 4:02my episodes very bite sized. So in today's episode, we're
- 4:05going to be talking about why shadowing isn't training.
- 4:09You're not clueless, you're just under trained.
- 4:11OK, now imagine this. Have you ever walked into ACT
- 4:15department and you're a brand new tech or you're a tech that
- 4:18you know this is a new job and you feel like everybody else in
- 4:22the department knows what they're doing except for you?
- 4:26So just think about that for a minute.
- 4:28Yes, I can tell you I've been there because I have changed
- 4:31jobs over the years. And even at my current job, I
- 4:35felt like a fish out of water because it was a bigger hospital
- 4:38than I'm used to. There's a lot more higher
- 4:42volumes that I'm used to and it just was really overwhelming.
- 4:46But the one positive thing is, is that I could just sit and
- 4:49scan on day one because of my experience, my training and just
- 4:54the amount of years I've been scanning.
- 4:56So what I want to tell you is, is that it's not you.
- 5:00It's not, you know, anything that you did.
- 5:04It's just this very convoluted broken system that is being used
- 5:09to train new technologist. I know that's going to trigger
- 5:12the fuck out of some of you, but that is the God honest truth.
- 5:16OK. And on my podcast, I don't
- 5:18gatekeep. I don't just censor.
- 5:21I give it to you and I give it to you nice and raw and there
- 5:24you go. So the real reason that new
- 5:27technologists struggle in the 1st 90 days of their training is
- 5:31because there isn't a system really set up.
- 5:33There's not really like a checklist or like a dedicated
- 5:36training program in departments. That's what I've noticed in my
- 5:40experience. Now this may not be true for
- 5:42your department, but I know in a lot of institutions that I've
- 5:45been to, this is the common norm.
- 5:47OK. And then the other thing is, is
- 5:49some new technologists are paired up with experienced
- 5:51technologists that let them shadow watch what they do.
- 5:55You know, the C1 teach one, do 1.
- 5:57I don't think that principle is really a good method, but to
- 6:00each their own instead of really guiding them on how to perform
- 6:05those exams correctly. And you know, what I find at
- 6:08some places that I've worked at is some of those experienced
- 6:11people don't know how to do them either.
- 6:13And you're like, what the fuck? So that is like one of the other
- 6:16reasons. And then another thing maybe is
- 6:19that there's really not a structured training program for
- 6:23them to follow. And then they give you 6 weeks
- 6:25to go ahead and train, which is not enough, especially when you
- 6:29have to learn the nitty and gritty and the hardcore exams
- 6:32that we pump out every day. Hardcore exams, PE studies,
- 6:36abdomen published with contrast, head without C, spine without,
- 6:39facial without. You know, there's trauma
- 6:40protocols, right? Just kind of name a fee.
- 6:43So those are the things that that I think a lot of new
- 6:46technologists struggle with, OK. And the whole thing about
- 6:51learning on the job, now, this can be taken two ways.
- 6:54I learned on the job, but then again, I also invested myself to
- 6:58make sure that I know exactly how to execute these exams by
- 7:03taking notes, you know, making sure that I suck the knowledge
- 7:06out of technologists that were really good and making sure that
- 7:08I read those protocols correctly.
- 7:11You have to invest in yourself, OK?
- 7:13Because CT is a learned skill, OK?
- 7:15When taught the right way and not by watching, by shattering.
- 7:18Like you actually have to do it. You have to sit in the captain's
- 7:21chair and you have to fucking do it.
- 7:22OK? Now there may be a case in point
- 7:25where you get texts that refuse to train you.
- 7:27So this is what I suggest you do.
- 7:29Train and learn yourself. Write down notes, you know,
- 7:33study exams on your downtime, make sure you write things down
- 7:37and make sure you learn those protocols.
- 7:39Flip through the protocol book, make a copy.
- 7:41Whatever the case is, do that because sometimes you're going
- 7:45to get places where they're going to give you minimal
- 7:47training and then they're going to expect you to execute the
- 7:50job. OK.
- 7:51This is a very, very just convoluted, broken system.
- 7:55We need more structured programs in the department.
- 7:59I am not knocking CT programs because I know they have their
- 8:02own clinical rotations, but I think when techs can't afford to
- 8:07go to CT school and employers offered to train them on the
- 8:10job, there needs to be some kind of structured program that is
- 8:14available to them that is structured correctly and that
- 8:17it's done correctly. OK now if you want all this,
- 8:21make sure you grab the CT blueprint.
- 8:22It's everything you wish you were taught.
- 8:24There are three individual courses that I provide the
- 8:28common exams and protocols where I give you all the common exams
- 8:31and protocols and I break it down a course on contrast and
- 8:34then the CT blueprint, which is a crash one O 1 course on just
- 8:39some principles and elements that you need as a new
- 8:41technologist. So you wish you were taller all
- 8:44this. So make sure you click the link
- 8:45below in the show notes to grab all that.
- 8:49So that is it for this episode. I know it was short and sweet
- 8:53giving you some updates. The next episodes from here on
- 8:56out are going to be very punchy, very straight to the point, and
- 8:59I'm going to make sure that you learn some shit, OK?
- 9:02So make sure you follow on TikTok, follow on Instagram,
- 9:04subscribe to the YouTube channel like share review.
- 9:08Make sure you share this with a technologist that needs to hear
- 9:11this. OK?
- 9:12So thank you so much for joining me in this episode and I will
- 9:15chat with you guys in the next episode.
