- 0:00Hi everyone, welcome to Mini Scroll, the daily Internet
- 0:04culture podcast bringing you the biggest stories from social
- 0:07media, the creator economy and the digital space every Monday
- 0:11through Thursday and sometimes Fridays.
- 0:14I'm your host, Lauren Meisner, the founder of the youth digital
- 0:17media brand Centennial World. Welcome back to Mini Scroll,
- 0:22everyone. OK, I have two questions for you
- 0:25guys that watch. Actually, I have one question
- 0:27and one statement. The statement is yes, it does
- 0:30look like it is Roman numerals for our November 11th, but I
- 0:34think in our move we lost some of the ones that we used to have
- 0:37for our beautiful little sign here.
- 0:39I'm definitely going to do a bit of a refresh for 2026.
- 0:43This sign is so old and she's a bit unwell, so we need something
- 0:47new for 2026. So you guys will have till the
- 0:50end of the year with her and then we may swap her out.
- 0:52But yes, so it is supposed to say November 11th, but it looks
- 0:56like Roman numerals #2 If you guys are into plants, can you
- 0:59please tell me is this like yellow stem, this yellow leaf
- 1:05stem? Is this dead because she feels
- 1:07alive down below? But I fear she turned yellow
- 1:12over the past few days and I feel like that's a bad sign.
- 1:15So if you guys know anything about plans, let me know.
- 1:17All right, before we get into it, Please remember to rate,
- 1:19review and subscribe. Please Spotify star rate US.
- 1:22We're trying to get to 1000 Spotify star ratings by the end
- 1:25of the year. And also there are always time
- 1:28stamps in every single description and Spotify and
- 1:31YouTube make them into automatic chapters after like just a
- 1:34couple hours usually, sometimes even automatically.
- 1:37So please, if you are wondering where a story is, just go into
- 1:41the description box. I can't believe I'm still
- 1:43talking about time stamps like literally five years later.
- 1:46OK, so the first story that I have for you guys is I'm going
- 1:49to break down the threads sticker gate that people are
- 1:54talking about all over this very niche hobby community online.
- 2:00So this is from like the hobby drama side of the Internet.
- 2:04And if that sounds like something that I just made-up,
- 2:07you are wrong. There is actually a very active
- 2:10subreddit dedicated to talking about the drama that goes on in
- 2:13niche hobby communities and I'm obsessed.
- 2:16So this week there's this big blowout that happened on threads
- 2:20within the sticker community. OK, so fun fact about me, I am
- 2:24not part of like the planner, sticker or fountain pen
- 2:27community, but I keep up with those communities.
- 2:31I love watching their content on YouTube.
- 2:33So I am actually quite across like the general stationary
- 2:37community online. I find their content very
- 2:40therapeutic, so I watch a lot of it before bed.
- 2:42So while this isn't something that I'm actively a part of in
- 2:44terms of collecting planners or fountain pens or making
- 2:48stickers, I am familiar with these communities.
- 2:50So the sticker community is a sub community of the planner
- 2:54community. And within the sticker
- 2:56community, there are creators who design and print their own
- 2:59custom stickers and then they sell these stickers on what they
- 3:02call sticker shops online. And they're meant to, you know,
- 3:05decorate your planners, decorate stationary, whatever you want to
- 3:08do. So this scandal that I'm going
- 3:09to cover today starts with a woman named Rachel Doodles and
- 3:13more. That was her handle.
- 3:14Her name is Rachel and she had a sticker shop where she made and
- 3:18sold stickers that were progressive stickers.
- 3:20So like leftist stickers with pro LGBTQIA plus sayings and
- 3:26other pro progressive values sayings.
- 3:28So for example, she sold stickers with slogans like trans
- 3:31rights are human rights. OK, so before the scandal
- 3:34started, Rachel reportedly had just a few 100 followers.
- 3:37However, despite having such a small following, insisted she
- 3:41was the target of a harassment campaign from a woman named
- 3:44Michelle who would send her bigoted emails about the
- 3:47progressive stickers that Rachel sold.
- 3:50So Rachel posted 8 emails from this woman Michelle.
- 3:54Rachel described this woman as a quote MAGA mom who told me I'd
- 3:57lose out on tons of sales for being too political.
- 4:01So here is a snippet from one of the alleged emails that Michelle
- 4:04sent Rachel. Rachel, I hope you're proud of
- 4:07yourself. I saw what you posted, the
- 4:09screenshots, the comments, the people laughing at me.
- 4:11You've turned me into some kind of joke, and for what?
- 4:14Because I told the truth. Because I stood up for what I
- 4:17believe in. I wrote you a private contact
- 4:19form. Private.
- 4:20And you blasted it all over the Internet so your little fan club
- 4:23can dogpile me and now you're getting orders and attention
- 4:27like it's something to celebrate.
- 4:28You're literally profiting off of bullying and hate and somehow
- 4:32I'm the bad guy. It's disgusting.
- 4:34Rachel, you call yourself a business owner but all you've
- 4:36done is mock hard working, God fearing Americans who actually
- 4:40care about this country. You wouldn't even be relevant if
- 4:43it weren't for me saying something.
- 4:45I guess you should thank me because clearly I made you
- 4:47famous. So these emails went viral on
- 4:50Threads and very quickly Rachel's sticker shop made
- 4:5310,000 dollars in basically a day and she gained over 50,000
- 4:59followers on her Threads account from this.
- 5:02But this is when things take a turn.
- 5:04Another sticker creator, Grumpy Greetings Co, whose name is
- 5:08Liana, had met Rachel previously so they had each other's phone
- 5:12numbers. Liana was apparently suss on the
- 5:15alleged emails that Rachel was claiming to be receiving from
- 5:19this woman, Michelle. I haven't been able to find out
- 5:22why she was suss, but she was, so she decided to do a little
- 5:28password retrieval with Michelle's e-mail address, which
- 5:31was visible in many of Rachel's screenshots on threads.
- 5:34Liana discovered through this that the recovery phone number
- 5:38for Michelle's e-mail address has the same final digits as
- 5:43Rachel's phone number that Liana has.
- 5:45So she basically made the discovery that Rachel was likely
- 5:48writing emails to herself from a fake woman named Michelle to
- 5:53garner sympathy on online, build a following, maybe make some
- 5:57money. So this was exposed on threads
- 5:59and initially Rachel acted confused for a bit and then she
- 6:03stopped posting. Then an alleged assistant for
- 6:07Rachel, who was also named Rachel appeared in her private
- 6:11businesses Facebook group asking people to mass report Liana's
- 6:15account, falsely claiming that Liana had encouraged harassment
- 6:19against Rachel. When in reality people online
- 6:22are saying, I didn't see this, but people online are saying
- 6:24that Leanna had apparently explicitly told people not to
- 6:27harass Rachel and she in general just hoped that Rachel would
- 6:31take accountability. The next day from this, Rachel
- 6:34posted 1/2 hearted apology claiming that only one of the
- 6:38emails from Michelle was real and the situation spiraled.
- 6:41She said it ended up becoming a quote, silly marketing campaign
- 6:45and I guess kind of spiraled out of control for her.
- 6:47And as you know, an apology. She donated $500 to a
- 6:52faith-based gay advocacy group and sent Leanna a direct
- 6:56apology. Rachel then claimed on Instagram
- 6:58that she was blocked from posting on Threads, but shortly
- 7:01after her quote UN quote husband posted on her Threads account
- 7:06when she said that she was blocked from that threads
- 7:08account, claiming that people were trying to cause Rachel
- 7:12quote grave emotional harm. She has since turned her threads
- 7:16account on private. Now after the Michelle
- 7:19situation. People have also noticed that
- 7:22Rachel has been posting similarly fabricated, you know,
- 7:26harassing messages and these elaborate stories about being
- 7:30verbally attacked by bigots for months.
- 7:32But Michelle's, I guess, was the one that really got traction.
- 7:35You know, she had a very small following.
- 7:37So everyone's like, OK, there's just no way that you would have
- 7:40been on the radar of this many right wing bigots for trying to
- 7:43sell stickers that have sayings that, you know, you can actually
- 7:46buy stickers that say these sayings kind of in many
- 7:49different places. These were not completely
- 7:51unique. So people are like, this is
- 7:53obviously an attention grabbing, made-up thing.
- 7:56So that is a very high level breakdown of the threads.
- 8:00Sticker Gate saga 2025. It kind of reminds me of like
- 8:05the OG attention grabbing stuff that happened.
- 8:10I feel like in the late 2000s, early twenty 10s, there were so
- 8:15many young women who would take to the Internet and claim to
- 8:18have cancer or, you know, claim these really horrible things
- 8:22were happening to them to become ingratiated in different
- 8:25communities and get sympathy. And this reminds me of that.
- 8:29Like I feel like this motivation was actually not to make money
- 8:32and get followers. I think it sounds like it was
- 8:34probably for sympathy and attention.
- 8:37OK, the next word that I have for you guys, I'm sure some of
- 8:39you have seen it, but there is a woman going viral on TikTok for
- 8:42calling various churches across the US asking them to buy a can
- 8:46of baby formula and she's documenting which ones offer to
- 8:50help her versus which ones decline.
- 8:53Creator Nickoli Monroe has started a series over the past
- 8:56few days that is taking over TikTok.
- 8:59So this is a description from the tap.com quote.
- 9:02On Halloween, Tik Toker Nickoli Monroe started a series that
- 9:06would soon garner millions upon millions of views.
- 9:08She started with E Somerset Baptist Church in Kentucky with
- 9:12a simple premise. Pretend to be a desperate mother
- 9:15seeking formula for her baby. Recording the phone calls for
- 9:18TikTok, Nikoli took on the role of a mother.
- 9:20She claimed to have run out of baby food and didn't have the
- 9:23funds to purchase any. To really hammer home her point,
- 9:26she sometimes played an audio clip of a baby crying in the
- 9:30background. So Nikoli has now done this
- 9:32phone call 43 times and has documented how churches or
- 9:36religious institutions in general react to her ask.
- 9:39It's important to note here that those picking up the phone did
- 9:42not know that this baby was fake.
- 9:44They did not know that the baby in the background that they
- 9:46could hear was a recording and that Nikoli was doing this
- 9:49social experiment essentially. So they in theory, should have
- 9:53believed that she was a mother who was desperate to find baby
- 9:57formula for her infant. She also wasn't asking for money
- 10:01or help in any other way. She was literally asking for one
- 10:04can of formula. In this experiment.
- 10:07It's still ongoing there, but there have been 43, like I said,
- 10:0943 calls. She has received 33 rejections
- 10:14and about 10 yeses. Now, the reasons for the Nos
- 10:18were varied, but these were the main ones.
- 10:21Churches said we stopped doing that, you don't know anyone at
- 10:24the church, you don't attend the church.
- 10:26We don't have any formula here. We're a church for old people.
- 10:30Some people just said straight up no.
- 10:32Some people told her she needs to contact the government,
- 10:35others told her she needs to find that at the store and not a
- 10:39church. However, those that said yes
- 10:42they mostly came from mosques, Islamic centers, and
- 10:46predominantly black churches. One of the mosques that she
- 10:48called immediately, the man didn't even really let her
- 10:50finish and was like what kind do you need?
- 10:52Same with and she called this Appalachian church and there was
- 10:56like an old man that answered and he offered to pay for it out
- 10:59of his own pocket. So even though she mostly got
- 11:02Nos and a lot of them are for really fucked up reasons and for
- 11:06a very invalid reasons, the yeses were really sweet and kind
- 11:09of heartwarming. However, obviously the Nos are
- 11:13very upsetting and shocking. So this has led to a lot of
- 11:16uproar online. Tons of people, including
- 11:19Christians themselves, are just shook by basically how vile and
- 11:24uncharitable a lot of these people answering the phones have
- 11:26been. There's a lot of people now
- 11:28calling to tax churches because the point of being tax exempt as
- 11:33a church is to donate and be charitable.
- 11:35Like that's the reason why you're not paying taxes, I
- 11:37guess. And now yesterday, given
- 11:40yesterday in the US was Sunday, a lot of these churches have
- 11:43started to respond in Sunday service because this is so
- 11:47viral. Internet users are leaving, you
- 11:50know, negative Google reviews on the churches that were really
- 11:53mean. Mean people are flooding these
- 11:55Facebook pages. And a lot of them are
- 11:57parishioners, like people that go to these churches being like,
- 11:59what the fuck? Like, what are my tithings going
- 12:02to and things like that. So this is from the tab quote.
- 12:04One pastor, who was from Baton Rouge, spoke about the Nicolai
- 12:08Monroe experiment in his sermon. He cited numerous times in the
- 12:12past that he'd helped people in need, but rebuked Nikolai's
- 12:16phone call while calling it a dirty deed.
- 12:18He also said the Tik Toker was an evil witch who would be dealt
- 12:22with swiftly if she ever went to his church.
- 12:25Another pastor spoke for 20 minutes about the social
- 12:27experiment, according to a woman who attended the service.
- 12:31He spoke at length about their other charitable works before
- 12:34calling Nikolai a woman who is, quote, folly, seductive and
- 12:38knowing nothing. He also managed to call her a
- 12:41woke liberal. Someone else, it's unclear
- 12:44whether he was the leader of the church, argued that.
- 12:46It's quote, not my obligation to help people.
- 12:49Isn't that literally the point of religion and church?
- 12:53Like, I understand community and stuff is a huge part of that.
- 12:55But like, is that not part of community?
- 12:57Is that not part of, like, Christian values?
- 12:59Is that not part of just most religious values in general?
- 13:02I would say not even just Christianity is like helping
- 13:04people. So yes, I fear the reality is
- 13:07because, you know, she was doing this as a social experiment.
- 13:10So she was technically lying about having a hungry baby.
- 13:13Of course, that is what's going to be focused on now from those
- 13:16who are defending, you know, their actions and their church's
- 13:19actions. And for people who want to be in
- 13:20denial, you know, this is the perfect excuse for that because
- 13:24it kind of dilutes that argument because she was lying anyways.
- 13:28But it's a very interesting series.
- 13:30And the comments honestly do give me hope.
- 13:32Like, there are millions of views, like I said, probably
- 13:34millions of comments. And all of it really gives me a
- 13:36lot of hope that people want to help.
- 13:39Even those who are part of these churches that are against
- 13:42helping, they're shocked. They're really upset about this.
- 13:44So yeah, it is, on one hand, disheartening to see these
- 13:50videos. But on the other hand, almost
- 13:53hopeful and heart warming. OK, and the last word that I
- 13:56have for you guys. This is a quick one, but I
- 13:59thought it was interesting. Annabelle told me to talk about
- 14:01it yesterday and I just forgot. But I wanted to note that we
- 14:04have two Hype House alums that are currently Grammy nominated
- 14:09this year, and that is a pipeline that I could have never
- 14:14seen coming. So we have our Diet Pepsi queen,
- 14:18Addison Rae, who I was for Halloween, and The Ordinary
- 14:21singer Alex Warren. They are both nominated this
- 14:24year for best new artist. And I think it's really
- 14:26interesting. They're basically nominated in
- 14:28the same year, about five years after blowing up and joining the
- 14:32Hype House. And they both have completely
- 14:35different careers and are thriving in ways that are so
- 14:40beyond what a lot of the other members are doing and could say
- 14:43about their own careers. And Annabelle and I were talking
- 14:46like, why do we think that is specifically?
- 14:48If we look at the Damelias, OK, obviously Charlie is doing her
- 14:51Broadway thing and she was doing Dancing with the Stars.
- 14:53And she seems to be like, doing, well, just kind of removing
- 14:56herself a bit from the spotlight, whereas Addison is
- 14:59very much in the spotlight and seeking that out.
- 15:02And we're trying to figure out like, what do we think is the
- 15:05difference between Addison Ray's career and like Dixie's career?
- 15:09Because Dixie started singing 1st and you know, even Charlie,
- 15:12she was the most famous for a long time.
- 15:14And I think the difference between Addison and the
- 15:17Demilios, they all had family friendly content.
- 15:20Like Addison was part of a content family.
- 15:22Her parents had TikTok, they were famous themselves.
- 15:25She had a podcast with her mother.
- 15:26Like she definitely was family friendly at first, but I think
- 15:29the best thing that she did was ditch that immediately,
- 15:33essentially, and align herself with more controversial
- 15:35celebrities to be seen as older. So she aligned herself with
- 15:39Charlie Xex, the Kardashians, as we know.
- 15:43And even though I'm sure this was a really traumatic, horrible
- 15:45thing to go through, all of the crazy like drug shit that her
- 15:50dad put her through in the public eye, like his partying
- 15:53and his weird relationships. And I actually saw he recently
- 15:55got married to someone he knew for like 2 weeks.
- 15:58And you know, he's just like went off the deep end, OK.
- 16:00And I think even though I'm sure that was incredibly traumatic, I
- 16:03think that actually helped her career in general because it
- 16:07broke the facade of, you know, the Ray Lopez family as being
- 16:11family friendly, as being put together, as being this like
- 16:13cohesive personal brand as a family.
- 16:16Whereas the Demilios were that and also the Demilios really
- 16:19aired too much. I think that reality show
- 16:21actually was more of a curse than a benefit to them.
- 16:25We saw them really struggling with fame, not wanting to be
- 16:29famous, not wanting whatever came with TikTok fame and their
- 16:32parents really pushing them into it and continually, you know,
- 16:35telling them to just like keep going.
- 16:37Whereas even though I'm sure Addison has those moments too
- 16:40where she's breaking down and she's like, I can't do this.
- 16:42This is so hard. Whatever, the public doesn't see
- 16:45that. Like with Addison, she's smiley,
- 16:47she's excited, she's grateful, she's happy to be here.
- 16:50We feel like she wants to be famous and she wants to be doing
- 16:53this for us. Whereas with the D'emilio's,
- 16:55that did not feel like the case. I mean, it never really felt
- 16:58like the case, but especially didn't feel like the case after
- 17:01we watched their reality TV show.
- 17:04So if you guys have thoughts on that as well, please let me know
- 17:06because I'm very interested. Those are my opinions, my high
- 17:09level opinions. All right guys, well, that's it
- 17:11for mini scroll today. Thank you so much for listening.
- 17:13I love you guys. Please remember to rate, review
- 17:16and subscribe, please Spotify star rate US.
- 17:18Annabelle will talk to you guys tomorrow and I will talk to you
- 17:21guys on Thursday. Bye.
