- 0:04Speaker 1: NHL Unscripted is a production of the NHL and iHeart
- 0:07Speaker 1: podcasts Great Tammy with us here in NHL Unscripted. Man,
- 0:23Speaker 1: We've got a lot of action going on right now.
- 0:25Speaker 1: The East right now feels like the leaves the leaf's
- 0:28Speaker 1: going to choke again. The coaching carousel continues. Plus Alex
- 0:31Speaker 1: Mott from Saturday Night Live in an interview which is
- 0:34Speaker 1: just too bizarre to even be described. He was playing
- 0:36Speaker 1: golf during it, kind of all over the place, but
- 0:38Speaker 1: I think you'll enjoy at least at some level. And
- 0:40Speaker 1: cine filing sixty, We're good theater this week. Glenn Garry,
- 0:42Speaker 1: Glenn Ross, one of my favorite players, got to watch
- 0:44Speaker 1: it on Broadway for the third time.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Love that play.
- 0:46Speaker 1: David Mannontt bringing the heat with Bob Oden Kirk as
- 0:49Speaker 1: Shelley the Machine, Levine Kiaran Kulkan as Ricky Roma, and
- 0:52Speaker 1: Bill Burr as Moss. When we begin, Jay, we'll get
- 0:54Speaker 1: to hockey in just a second. But I gotta tell you,
- 0:56Speaker 1: the entire sports world is still talking about Shador Sanders
- 0:59Speaker 1: and I could not think of a hockey comp to this.
- 1:01Speaker 1: I can't think of a guy who has at one
- 1:02Speaker 1: point was expected to be a top I picked that
- 1:04Speaker 1: it was late first round of Corny Melt Kuiper and
- 1:06Speaker 1: then falling to the fifth round, but it was it
- 1:09Speaker 1: was comical. And again you and I were watching hockey playoffs,
- 1:12Speaker 1: doing baseball, NBA plus whatever. But I'm like, Okay, NFL draft,
- 1:14Speaker 1: I know the world's talking about this, but the guy
- 1:16Speaker 1: got picked the fifth round by the Browns. I'm just curious,
- 1:18Speaker 1: as a guy who has no shortage of opinions, your
- 1:20Speaker 1: reaction to shador Standers, who's expected to be, you know,
- 1:23Speaker 1: seventy one completion percentage good quarterback, but nobody wants to
- 1:26Speaker 1: deal with his dad. Nobody wants d on their training kid.
- 1:29Speaker 1: If he were saything like that, shador Standers falling the
- 1:31Speaker 1: fifth round, one hundred and three guys drafted ahead of.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Them, Yeah, it's I think they sent a statement. No,
- 1:37Speaker 3: that seems like a statement from the owners to any
- 1:40Speaker 3: kid thinking they're bigger in their bretches than the NFL.
- 1:44Speaker 3: I mean, everything you hear out of there was like
- 1:46Speaker 3: his interviews were just so bad and he was just
- 1:49Speaker 3: very arrogant. And again you couple that with like the
- 1:52Speaker 3: Dion Sanders of it out Now, listen, do I think
- 1:55Speaker 3: this kid's like NFL ready and a quarterback that's going
- 2:01Speaker 3: to really produce right off the get go.
- 2:03Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 2:04Speaker 3: You know, he's in that program, in that division. He's
- 2:06Speaker 3: in one of the worst divisions in college football. Correct,
- 2:08Speaker 3: So I'm kind of like, how do is he gonna
- 2:11Speaker 3: do in the NFL. I think he might actually end
- 2:13Speaker 3: up being in a good situation in Cleveland with that
- 2:15Speaker 3: quarterback room of of not great quarterbacks, but like there's.
- 2:19Speaker 2: A lot of but they got like five quarterbacks.
- 2:21Speaker 1: He's gonna get enough reps action prove it can be good.
- 2:23Speaker 3: Yeah, Well, there's no way they can go in to
- 2:24Speaker 3: training camp with five quarterbacks. So it's gonna be they're
- 2:27Speaker 3: gonna shave it down. There's gonna be a couple of trades.
- 2:29Speaker 3: So yeah, I think the message was sent to any
- 2:31Speaker 3: college player that thinks they're bigger than the game and
- 2:33Speaker 3: they're getting that nil money, that the NFL is a
- 2:36Speaker 3: different world.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Perhaps people are slightly subdued. Jason de Murs.
- 2:40Speaker 1: He has a Wi Fi issue right now in Arizona,
- 2:43Speaker 1: so he's not at full volume.
- 2:45Speaker 2: This is like about an eighty five percent Jason de Murs.
- 2:47Speaker 1: The content is excellent I'm just saying the delivery is
- 2:49Speaker 1: not quite as outspoken, like you're not gonna give me
- 2:51Speaker 1: a headfield right now. I don't even asked that you're
- 2:53Speaker 1: gonna You're gonna alienate people in that library and right
- 2:55Speaker 1: now the lobby.
- 2:56Speaker 4: I could give a little.
- 3:00Speaker 3: That's an octave lower for the musical fans out there,
- 3:04Speaker 3: Dalica acoustic level.
- 3:05Speaker 1: All Right, Hockey, we go East is the least the
- 3:09Speaker 1: hell's going on. Every Western conference series will go at
- 3:11Speaker 1: least six games. Been great, but three of the fourth
- 3:14Speaker 1: series out East Finals finished with a whimper in five games. Carolina, Florida,
- 3:17Speaker 1: and Washington advanced New Jersey. Tampa and Montreal are out.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Carolina will play Washington in round two. Tampa Bay is
- 3:25Speaker 1: out in the first round for the third straight year.
- 3:27Speaker 1: They have not won a playoff series since appearing in
- 3:30Speaker 1: three straight Stanley Cup finals in twenty twenty. In twenty
- 3:33Speaker 1: twenty two, I think you and I agree. You actually again,
- 3:36Speaker 1: no Sho demurs the return. You said the Habs will
- 3:38Speaker 1: get well at the Bell Center.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Correct.
- 3:40Speaker 1: I said I couldn't care less about Devil's games. I
- 3:42Speaker 1: think you called the dellas you thought Marster might pull
- 3:43Speaker 1: off a rabbit of this app whatever mostop in New Jersey.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Yeah, I didn't expect just the Walking Dead. But after
- 3:49Speaker 3: game one, you know, losing Hughes and Dylan in the
- 3:52Speaker 3: first game, it's like, right, and they're dead.
- 3:54Speaker 1: But the surprise here is the Battle of Florida. Like
- 3:56Speaker 1: I had Florida winning. How they winning at six point
- 4:00Speaker 1: five games?
- 4:00Speaker 5: Dude?
- 4:01Speaker 1: What the hell happened?
- 4:01Speaker 4: The Lightning?
- 4:02Speaker 1: A lot of everyone's picking the Lightning. You're not alone
- 4:04Speaker 1: in that.
- 4:05Speaker 3: I mean, I had him in seven. I think it's
- 4:07Speaker 3: safe to say, and you know, I'm one of the
- 4:09Speaker 3: biggest I took lightning in seven for one reason and
- 4:12Speaker 3: one reason only. It was Andrey Vasilevski. And I just
- 4:16Speaker 3: don't know if the magic's there anymore for him. Honestly,
- 4:19Speaker 3: I just don't think he has that. He's still a
- 4:21Speaker 3: good goalie. I just don't think he's that goalie that
- 4:25Speaker 3: we remember from those, you know, those cup runs that
- 4:28Speaker 3: they had.
- 4:28Speaker 4: I just think he's lost a step. I don't know
- 4:30Speaker 4: what it is.
- 4:32Speaker 3: Lost the compete, the battle, but it just was a
- 4:35Speaker 3: it wasn't a great effort I think by him, by
- 4:37Speaker 3: the team as well. I think they got manhandled by
- 4:40Speaker 3: Florida a little bit, and you know, other than Brandon
- 4:42Speaker 3: Hagel with that hit on Barkoff, I mean, they wasn't
- 4:45Speaker 3: much response that they really did push in a sense
- 4:48Speaker 3: of like they fought a lot after the whistle and
- 4:50Speaker 3: they were kind of they were engaged, but they just
- 4:52Speaker 3: had no answer for Florida. And this is the year
- 4:54Speaker 3: I thought, I thought, Tampa, I have Tampa going to
- 4:56Speaker 3: the finals losing to Colorado.
- 4:59Speaker 4: But I mean two of.
- 5:00Speaker 3: My teams that I had going I'm worried about, you know,
- 5:03Speaker 3: Colorado as well, but Tampa just in five, like even
- 5:06Speaker 3: this game tonight, and you know, it just seemed like
- 5:10Speaker 3: it just seems the last couple of years, Florida's just
- 5:12Speaker 3: got their number and they can't get out of their
- 5:14Speaker 3: own way as well. So you know, I'm more interested
- 5:17Speaker 3: now to see what happens with Tampa moving forward. They
- 5:20Speaker 3: got some big decisions to make, especially at the coaching position,
- 5:23Speaker 3: but I mean, overall, they got to either retool this
- 5:27Speaker 3: thing or because what they have this year did not
- 5:29Speaker 3: work at all, even though in the season it looked
- 5:31Speaker 3: like everything was pointing towards them, you know, going on
- 5:34Speaker 3: a run. But this is the NHL It's like there's
- 5:37Speaker 3: levels to this, and Florida just seems to be that
- 5:39Speaker 3: that top of the top right now. And you just
- 5:41Speaker 3: can't now that they're all healthy, you cannot. Man, even
- 5:46Speaker 3: missing ek Platt, I didn't think they'd be this dominant.
- 5:49Speaker 1: You have my attention now because you said what could
- 5:50Speaker 1: happen on the coaching side. John Cooper wildly regard as
- 5:53Speaker 1: one of the best coaches in the game. We're gonna
- 5:55Speaker 1: get to the whole coaches carousel, the fact that Mike
- 5:57Speaker 1: Sullivan's out. Coop's been there forever. He and Sullivan have
- 5:59Speaker 1: been institutions in Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh, respectively. You think
- 6:02Speaker 1: John Cooper may not be there? Are you referring to
- 6:04Speaker 1: other aspects of the coaching staff?
- 6:06Speaker 3: Ah, Well, you know they they gave him that one
- 6:08Speaker 3: year option this year and I don't know if they
- 6:11Speaker 3: exercise it. It's one of those things, is it is
- 6:13Speaker 3: it just time? And and nothing against John Cooper. And
- 6:16Speaker 3: also you got to look at John Cooper and you're
- 6:18Speaker 3: here in some rumors and some murmurs of John Cooper's
- 6:21Speaker 3: tight in Utah with Ryan Smith, and there could be
- 6:23Speaker 3: something there and and you know he's uh there's there's
- 6:28Speaker 3: a world in which John Cooper has done everything he
- 6:31Speaker 3: can do in the coaching space, and maybe he wants
- 6:35Speaker 3: might want to do something a little bit more, maybe
- 6:37Speaker 3: go up a level, maybe go to hockey ops or
- 6:39Speaker 3: or GMing. And you know, you can't ask much more
- 6:43Speaker 3: from John Cooper's in terms of a coach. He's done
- 6:45Speaker 3: it all in this league. And you know, he's won,
- 6:49Speaker 3: he's he's been part of you know, he's grown a
- 6:52Speaker 3: lot of guys. He's won on the world stage, on
- 6:54Speaker 3: the sort, in the international stage, and you know, this
- 6:57Speaker 3: is this might be one of those moments where he's
- 6:59Speaker 3: been kind of deciding on what he wants to do,
- 7:01Speaker 3: and this it might just be the kick in the
- 7:02Speaker 3: ass that he needs to kind of take it to
- 7:04Speaker 3: the next level, maybe just depart amicably between Tampa and
- 7:08Speaker 3: and and kind of usher in a new era. So
- 7:11Speaker 3: but I don't know who would come in for him.
- 7:12Speaker 3: There's a lot of coaches out there right now, but
- 7:15Speaker 3: I think John Cooper could be a guy that just
- 7:18Speaker 3: says by and and nothing, no animasy, I don't think
- 7:21Speaker 3: behind it. But there's just a lot of ties with
- 7:24Speaker 3: him in Utah and it's it's an interesting, interesting development
- 7:27Speaker 3: going on right now, So I don't know what's going
- 7:29Speaker 3: to happen. But but yeah, that's kind of me jumping
- 7:32Speaker 3: on the rumor mill. I mean, I could see him
- 7:33Speaker 3: go anywhere as a coach. I think any team would
- 7:35Speaker 3: take him right now if he was available. But you know,
- 7:38Speaker 3: I'm looking at Boston as well. But if he does
- 7:40Speaker 3: become available and decides to go into the GMing hockey
- 7:44Speaker 3: apps role, I think he'll be welcome with open arms
- 7:46Speaker 3: anywhere he wants to go.
- 7:48Speaker 1: You can imagine, let me be a challenge, as you say,
- 7:50Speaker 1: every of the coach, he wants to go to the
- 7:51Speaker 1: next level. But you are speaking at conspiratorial whisper just
- 7:54Speaker 1: in case John Cooper is listening to these thoughts that
- 7:57Speaker 1: you're giving because the longest coach, the longest tender coach
- 8:00Speaker 1: of league Cooper, Jeff Halperm been there a while as well.
- 8:03Speaker 2: All right, so the lightning is disappointing, but this is
- 8:07Speaker 2: a new level here. The LA Kings.
- 8:08Speaker 1: They every want to use this word if you're a
- 8:10Speaker 1: sports fan when you hear choking, Wait, wait are you
- 8:12Speaker 1: Kidding'm like, no, no, God, the Kings blow the goalie
- 8:15Speaker 1: interference challenging Game three, they lose. They then blow a
- 8:17Speaker 1: two goal Yeah, they then blow a two goal third
- 8:20Speaker 1: PERI leading Game four and Twysol wins it in overtime.
- 8:23Speaker 2: And Tuesday at Crypti, I go, they're gonna be fine.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Jay, They're gonna back home, all right, we all know, Hey,
- 8:27Speaker 1: greatest home record ever at home. It's a different story
- 8:29Speaker 1: at Crypto. They lose their biggest game of the season
- 8:32Speaker 1: with a pop gun poultry, anemic offensive effort. One goal
- 8:37Speaker 1: against beleaguered Edmonton Other's goalies three to one is your final.
- 8:41Speaker 4: I see to you.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Before the fourth straight year they lose the Oilers, you
- 8:45Speaker 1: might as well just pack up shop. And I like
- 8:47Speaker 1: Jammeller as a good coach, but I'm telling you, man,
- 8:49Speaker 1: I'm not putting on Jim. I'm just saying collectively, look, Grobtek, whomever,
- 8:52Speaker 1: this is an absolute catastrophe. If they lose this game
- 8:55Speaker 1: in six Andrea Coupetar turns thirty eight in August, Drew
- 8:58Speaker 1: Dowey turns thirty six in December. A lot of concerns
- 9:01Speaker 1: right now for Los Angeles.
- 9:03Speaker 3: Yeah, I think this would be if they lose this.
- 9:06Speaker 3: This is this is a blow up of epic proportions.
- 9:10Speaker 3: I don't know if the coach, you know, the coaching
- 9:12Speaker 3: staff is partly to blame, and and I just don't understand. Listen,
- 9:16Speaker 3: the mental side of hockey is such a crazy thing
- 9:19Speaker 3: when you really ask guys and you go, hey, how
- 9:21Speaker 3: does a team like just want twelve straight against another
- 9:24Speaker 3: opponent or how do they just kind of you they
- 9:26Speaker 3: can't seem to get over that hump, and it's just
- 9:28Speaker 3: such a mental block that they have and they go
- 9:30Speaker 3: up to nothing. They look like world beaters. Game three,
- 9:33Speaker 3: they're looking like world beaters, and then all of a sudden,
- 9:35Speaker 3: they just start sitting back. They sit back, and they're
- 9:38Speaker 3: sitting in that goddamn one three one structure at the
- 9:42Speaker 3: blue an. There was times they had five guys in
- 9:44Speaker 3: the defensive zone just waiting for Connor McDavid to come
- 9:46Speaker 3: on his horse and come into the and coming to
- 9:49Speaker 3: the offensive zone. I'm like, I don't care who you're playing,
- 9:51Speaker 3: You're never gonna win games like that because it's the
- 9:54Speaker 3: NHL and there's guys that have a lot of skill,
- 9:55Speaker 3: and if you're just sitting there and waiting with five
- 9:58Speaker 3: guys like it's you're giving them offensive zone practice and
- 10:00Speaker 3: ozone time. I mean, I just don't. They were dominating Edmonton,
- 10:05Speaker 3: like dominating them, they were getting scoring chances, they were
- 10:08Speaker 3: getting offensive's own time, they're bullying him, and then all
- 10:10Speaker 3: of a sudden it comes third period and it's like, oh,
- 10:12Speaker 3: let's just sit back and try to hide this lead
- 10:15Speaker 3: and pray that we get a w because we've lost
- 10:19Speaker 3: to this team three straight years. And I'm like, that's
- 10:21Speaker 3: not how you win. You got to get pissed off,
- 10:23Speaker 3: have a chip on your shoulder, and then you cap
- 10:25Speaker 3: it all off. Obviously, we can talk about that coaching challenge,
- 10:28Speaker 3: which has been talked about a nauseum by every other
- 10:31Speaker 3: you know, podcast and pundit that it's just one of
- 10:34Speaker 3: the worst I've seen, and I'm not going to beat
- 10:35Speaker 3: it up more than that. It was just he knows,
- 10:38Speaker 3: Jimy Millar knows what he did, and I think the
- 10:40Speaker 3: whole league knows what he did. But that game six
- 10:42Speaker 3: performance and not be ready to play and just twenty
- 10:45Speaker 3: two shots, like you have four shots in the first period,
- 10:48Speaker 3: you get absolutely worked over to your point, like you said,
- 10:51Speaker 3: against a beleaguered goalie tandem. You know, listen, Calvin Pickard's
- 10:55Speaker 3: coming and he's been good. He's been really solid for them,
- 10:57Speaker 3: and they've just kind of slowly pushed them out and
- 11:00Speaker 3: broken their will. And I think that Game four was
- 11:03Speaker 3: kind of the cap er for them of breaking their will.
- 11:05Speaker 3: And now I don't know if there's any answer for
- 11:07Speaker 3: them going to fucking were Rogers Arena for Game six.
- 11:13Speaker 3: That place is going to be so loud and mc
- 11:14Speaker 3: connor's gonna be going one hundred miles an hour. And
- 11:16Speaker 3: I tell you what the the Edmonton Oilers, you know,
- 11:19Speaker 3: I tweeted about it the other day. Their resiliency since
- 11:23Speaker 3: Game four of the Stanley Cup Finals last year is
- 11:26Speaker 3: something to be seen many. You can never count them
- 11:29Speaker 3: out of a series. They battle to the end. Connor
- 11:32Speaker 3: and Leon just will these guys, and that's the difference.
- 11:34Speaker 3: And I mean, I think if LA loses this, which
- 11:37Speaker 3: I'm still hoping out, holding out hope that my pick
- 11:40Speaker 3: holds that they win in seven, but this is a
- 11:42Speaker 3: blow up. You got to get rid of everybody. You
- 11:45Speaker 3: keep the young guys. You keep Adrian Kempey, you keep
- 11:47Speaker 3: Brant Clark, but Drew Dowdy and Onse Copazar probably have
- 11:50Speaker 3: to either get moved or you get to find a
- 11:52Speaker 3: way to bring in some new blood because this is
- 11:55Speaker 3: just not working. And you know, I thought it would
- 11:58Speaker 3: and I thought they had all the makings of it.
- 12:00Speaker 4: We all took them. We all look like idiots. Everybody
- 12:01Speaker 4: took La.
- 12:02Speaker 3: I think, I don't know how many people took the Oilers,
- 12:04Speaker 3: but many. And you know, the Oilers proven that they
- 12:07Speaker 3: are just a tough team mentally, and I mean big
- 12:11Speaker 3: credit and big hats off to my X factor that
- 12:15Speaker 3: I said was probably gonna impact this series was Evander Kaine.
- 12:18Speaker 3: He's gotten better and better every single game and that's
- 12:20Speaker 3: been a big difference maker for this team.
- 12:23Speaker 2: We'll find out what happens game six and everything.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Like I said, it's gonna be rocking as LA tries
- 12:27Speaker 1: to stave off elimination. It's not quite in the level
- 12:29Speaker 1: of the Kings because the Leaves are still in charge.
- 12:32Speaker 1: They're up three too against Yatta Centators, but they're now
- 12:34Speaker 1: one for thirteen and close out games in the Matthews
- 12:37Speaker 1: and Martyr era. That is absolute catnip for all Leaf
- 12:41Speaker 1: haters like you. You are up and you can't win
- 12:44Speaker 1: those stars like it is, and you're right if you
- 12:46Speaker 1: talk about a nervous fan base. I mean, Leaf is
- 12:50Speaker 1: that nobody can go from arrogance to like just quiet
- 12:53Speaker 1: desperation quite like the Leaves.
- 12:54Speaker 2: They're going, this is our year. What you when the
- 12:56Speaker 2: Cup first times to sixty seven.
- 12:57Speaker 1: And it's like, oh my god, we're gonna lose the sense,
- 12:59Speaker 1: We're gonna blow a three oh lead. I give Otto
- 13:01Speaker 1: a full credit, ja, I mean they've played a great game,
- 13:04Speaker 1: was great stout defense exactly getting better. They're improving, aust
- 13:07Speaker 1: the series has gone on. Toronto's going the other way.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Game six in Ottawa Thursday night. Again, we don't necessarily
- 13:12Speaker 1: talking about home micecause Autwo to me, Leaf fans are there.
- 13:14Speaker 1: But I'm telling you, buddy, I want to see a
- 13:16Speaker 1: game seven of the worst way possible.
- 13:18Speaker 2: I had sense and seven let's go.
- 13:20Speaker 4: Well, they don't realize.
- 13:21Speaker 3: I don't think the fan base realizes that they influenced this.
- 13:25Speaker 3: Like you could feel the difference in game uh in
- 13:29Speaker 3: Game five there in the building, you could feel it
- 13:31Speaker 3: how quiet it was and how tense it was. They
- 13:33Speaker 3: scored that first goal. They just sucked the energy out
- 13:35Speaker 3: of the building. The fans themselves, and I've been hard
- 13:38Speaker 3: on the lower bowl of Toronto, but you can hear
- 13:39Speaker 3: it like there was a pin drop that whole game,
- 13:41Speaker 3: and they're just kind of they have so many scars
- 13:43Speaker 3: from all the past years of losing it, so you
- 13:45Speaker 3: can just see it. They're already like, oh no, we're
- 13:47Speaker 3: gonna lose in seven, We're gonna get swept, instead of
- 13:49Speaker 3: being confident that they were the better team for most
- 13:52Speaker 3: parts of the series. But that's the issue I think
- 13:54Speaker 3: people and Toronto fans miss, is that it's been a
- 13:58Speaker 3: tight series. This series could easily be flipped the other
- 14:01Speaker 3: way with those overtimes. Like both those games, Ottawa was
- 14:05Speaker 3: out playing in Toronto for a lot of the five
- 14:07Speaker 3: on five and the issue was and what did we
- 14:10Speaker 3: say that we before? The penalty kill was the issue
- 14:12Speaker 3: for Ottawa. They've now fixed it somewhat. I just think,
- 14:16Speaker 3: you know, Toronto's gotten really stagnant and too cute with it.
- 14:19Speaker 3: But they're now zero for seven, and what happens they
- 14:22Speaker 3: lose that last two games, So there's your issue for
- 14:25Speaker 3: Toronto's they got to fix their power play and Ottawa,
- 14:28Speaker 3: I mean just keep going. They're kind of just playing
- 14:30Speaker 3: that underdog role. They don't care. They have nothing to
- 14:32Speaker 3: play for. There's no tomorrow, and you could see Toronto.
- 14:35Speaker 3: You could see the stress coming in last game. Marn
- 14:38Speaker 3: is starting to beg for calls a little bit awesome,
- 14:40Speaker 3: Matthew's breaking his stick on the bench, and you can
- 14:43Speaker 3: start to see those old wounds coming back up again
- 14:45Speaker 3: a lot like the Kings. So you know, I listen,
- 14:48Speaker 3: I had Autawa on seven. I hope Toronto wins. I
- 14:52Speaker 3: just feel like Toronto, that the fan base just needs
- 14:56Speaker 3: it deserves as much as we.
- 14:57Speaker 4: All like kind of you know, lining just lining up
- 15:01Speaker 4: at the doors that we dold just so they joked again.
- 15:04Speaker 3: I mean, I feel like at one point, it's like, fuck,
- 15:06Speaker 3: come on, give us one, just please, for the love
- 15:08Speaker 3: of God, just win this one. Close it out at
- 15:11Speaker 3: Canadian Tire Center. But you do not want to come
- 15:13Speaker 3: back to to Toronto and Scotiabank Arena?
- 15:16Speaker 4: Is it Scotia Banks? Still I.
- 15:18Speaker 6: See it.
- 15:19Speaker 4: I'm pretty good. I still remember myself. You can't. You
- 15:20Speaker 4: do not want to come back for seven? Game seven? Dude?
- 15:23Speaker 1: What's great about HL script? Does everyone has their moment
- 15:25Speaker 1: to shine?
- 15:25Speaker 6: You know?
- 15:26Speaker 1: J D says, cal mccarr's me the greatest defensive all time.
- 15:29Speaker 1: I've got Cinophile right, just get to run rampant. I
- 15:31Speaker 1: want Tal right now agains viral moment.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Tal.
- 15:34Speaker 1: I want you to just take a sledgehammer to Austin Matthews,
- 15:36Speaker 1: who has two goals in his last ten playoff games.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Go ahead, pin Chewski, talk to me.
- 15:41Speaker 7: I mean, I don't know what to say at this point.
- 15:42Speaker 7: And I know there's been so much of a focus
- 15:45Speaker 7: on Mitch Marner the last few seasons in the playoffs.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Mitch Marner is the whipping boy every single time. Can
- 15:50Speaker 1: we give some of the can we can we bash
- 15:52Speaker 1: Matthews this time?
- 15:53Speaker 4: Come on, I won't. I love the kids, so I won't.
- 15:55Speaker 7: Get a rotation like for years it was Neilander, Right,
- 15:58Speaker 7: Neilander was the guy who was the whipping boy for years,
- 16:01Speaker 7: and then there were some playoffs where he just absolutely
- 16:03Speaker 7: balled out and was unstoppable and they didn't get past
- 16:07Speaker 7: the first round, but he.
- 16:07Speaker 5: Was probably their best offensive player.
- 16:09Speaker 7: And then it was Martyr and I got Matthews is
- 16:12Speaker 7: not scoring goals like that's what he's supposed to be doing.
- 16:15Speaker 7: I mean, he's established himself at this point as an
- 16:17Speaker 7: elite two way center. Yes, and he should be considered
- 16:21Speaker 7: for the Selky and all that, but that's not what
- 16:24Speaker 7: he's there for. He's there to he's there to drive offense.
- 16:27Speaker 7: And he has two goals in his last over the
- 16:28Speaker 7: last two playoffs.
- 16:31Speaker 5: Runs over the last two seasons in.
- 16:32Speaker 7: The playoffs, and I feel like no one's talked about it,
- 16:37Speaker 7: Like I feel like it has not the hot potato
- 16:40Speaker 7: has not landed in his lap yet.
- 16:42Speaker 4: Yeah, he was.
- 16:43Speaker 7: Are not talking about why is Austin Matthews not scoring
- 16:46Speaker 7: goals in the playoffs?
- 16:48Speaker 5: And I don't understand why.
- 16:50Speaker 7: I guess, I mean he's maybe he's he's it's the
- 16:52Speaker 7: Bieber effect. He's a friends with Bieber and Vegetable. I
- 16:56Speaker 7: don't know what's going on, but I feel like I'm
- 16:58Speaker 7: not saying we need I'm just surprised that more people
- 17:02Speaker 7: are not having that conversation about Austin Matthews, who is
- 17:05Speaker 7: now the conneptain of this team.
- 17:07Speaker 5: By the way, I might.
- 17:08Speaker 3: Add, there we go never getting Justin Bieber on this podcast.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Now, got to be a believer.
- 17:15Speaker 1: You know.
- 17:16Speaker 3: My kind of devil's advocate is last year there was
- 17:18Speaker 3: those injury kind of woes with Lelander and Matthews, and
- 17:21Speaker 3: Matthews has had something going on for like a year
- 17:24Speaker 3: or two. And but yeah, I mean, listen, I think
- 17:26Speaker 3: it it begins and ends with him when he kind
- 17:29Speaker 3: of goes and I think one of their best forwards
- 17:32Speaker 3: this series has been Matthew and Ies. He's been a
- 17:34Speaker 3: bull in a china shop. But Matthews just got to
- 17:37Speaker 3: get back to shooting. He has been a little reluctant
- 17:39Speaker 3: to shoot, which makes me believe there's something going on,
- 17:42Speaker 3: maybe because I haven't seen him unload that one time
- 17:45Speaker 3: or like he's known for and just kind of piss
- 17:47Speaker 3: pump one. So I'm a little interested to see how
- 17:51Speaker 3: they come out in a Canadian entire center. But I'd
- 17:53Speaker 3: say what the momentum is firmly in the hands of
- 17:56Speaker 3: Ottawa senators. So and listen, we didn't mention. You know,
- 18:00Speaker 3: Anthony Stolars the last two games hasn't been his best
- 18:04Speaker 3: elf and they kind of got to him a little bit.
- 18:06Speaker 3: So I'm interested to see how they handle it on
- 18:09Speaker 3: the road here. But this is dragging them back to
- 18:12Speaker 3: Ottawa's Brady said, dragging them back to Ottawa.
- 18:16Speaker 1: Battle of Florida was done, Battle of Ontario might still
- 18:19Speaker 1: be an epic if Auto can win game six. All right,
- 18:21Speaker 1: we'll get to Alex Moffatt in just a second. With
- 18:23Speaker 1: the coaching carousel, major coaching vacancies like JD mentioned at
- 18:27Speaker 1: the top, the Rangers, the Ducks cracking. On Monday, the
- 18:30Speaker 1: Penguins announced their head coach, Mike Sullivan. Sullivan's travels not
- 18:33Speaker 1: back after ten seasons and two Stanley Cups. The team
- 18:36Speaker 1: hasn't won a playoff series since twenty eighteen. They just
- 18:39Speaker 1: missed the playoffs for a third straight season, and the
- 18:41Speaker 1: very next day, your boy Rick Tockett will not be
- 18:44Speaker 1: back for two and a half seasons.
- 18:45Speaker 2: With the Vancouver Canucks.
- 18:47Speaker 1: Looking at the coaching landscape, Boston, Philly and Chicago could
- 18:51Speaker 1: also make changes behind the bench this summer. Who goes where?
- 18:54Speaker 1: Who's the next coach? To get the acts before you
- 18:56Speaker 1: go anywhere? Sullivan's the Rangers talk to me?
- 19:01Speaker 3: Yeah, I'd like to see you know, I think Sully
- 19:04Speaker 3: going there or Boston potentially, but I think the Rangers
- 19:08Speaker 3: is a good fit for him. I think you know
- 19:10Speaker 3: that that Rangers court needs somebody that's gonna hold them accountable.
- 19:14Speaker 4: You know. I kind of was talking.
- 19:15Speaker 3: With Brian Boyle and Mic Up a little bit and
- 19:18Speaker 3: being like, what do you guys kind of see and
- 19:19Speaker 3: because you know, they know better than me on that side.
- 19:21Speaker 3: And I'm like, do you think a young coach for
- 19:23Speaker 3: these guys, And you know, Mike Rep's like, no, they
- 19:25Speaker 3: need a guy, an old guy that's going to come
- 19:27Speaker 3: in and kind of crack the whip a little bit.
- 19:29Speaker 3: I'm not saying John Tortorella, but somebody that'll come in
- 19:32Speaker 3: and crack the whip and hold these guys accountable and
- 19:35Speaker 3: pull some ice time if guys aren't willing to battle
- 19:37Speaker 3: so and I think you know Sully can do that.
- 19:40Speaker 3: I'm interested to see like the Chicago's and the teams
- 19:43Speaker 3: that are kind of on the fence with their coaches
- 19:45Speaker 3: and have some young coaches a Utah, because there's a
- 19:48Speaker 3: lot of big names out there, and I could see
- 19:51Speaker 3: some teams pulling the trigger quicker rather than later because
- 19:54Speaker 3: you don't want to lose. You know, you still got
- 19:56Speaker 3: Joe Quenville out there, and you gotta there's a lot
- 19:58Speaker 3: of good coaches out there. Jay Woodcroft's another one that's
- 20:01Speaker 3: just been sitting waiting. You got about eight or nine
- 20:03Speaker 3: coaches that have had winning records in the NHL that
- 20:07Speaker 3: are available for hire and I'm like, you're gonna maybe
- 20:10Speaker 3: see a couple of them teaming up, and you might
- 20:13Speaker 3: see a couple that you know, end up not having
- 20:16Speaker 3: a job next year because there's just that many options.
- 20:18Speaker 3: So it's it's a it's a dangerous time to be
- 20:20Speaker 3: a coach in the NHL right now because you are
- 20:23Speaker 3: not giving a lot of bullets and a lot of
- 20:24Speaker 3: life and you're giving no rope. And yeah, it's it's
- 20:29Speaker 3: it's interesting to see. I don't know why there's been
- 20:31Speaker 3: that shift in the landscape. I don't know if it's
- 20:33Speaker 3: on the players, if players are just too fragile now,
- 20:36Speaker 3: or is it on you know, ownership pressure from the
- 20:39Speaker 3: media to win now and and you know, you could
- 20:43Speaker 3: also just be like Detroit where they don't do anything,
- 20:45Speaker 3: and you know, Steve Eiserman's still there and he's taking
- 20:47Speaker 3: trapnel from his captain and then responding in the media
- 20:51Speaker 3: in kind I don't know, did you hear that?
- 20:53Speaker 6: Well?
- 20:53Speaker 1: I wanted to ask you how how long does the
- 20:55Speaker 1: iSER plan go?
- 20:56Speaker 2: I think.
- 20:59Speaker 3: Did you hear minisil Ran today refuse to answer questions
- 21:03Speaker 3: and he said, well, my top guys need to play better.
- 21:06Speaker 3: He's like they're begging you to pick somebody up, and
- 21:09Speaker 3: you don't have enough top players.
- 21:11Speaker 4: It's the problem. You're missing guys.
- 21:12Speaker 3: You brought in an aging Patrick Kane and an aging
- 21:15Speaker 3: Vladimir Tarasenko, and you thought that would show up the scoring.
- 21:18Speaker 3: And even though Patty Kane was still himself down the stretch,
- 21:22Speaker 3: they needed some firepower, They needed a little bit of grit.
- 21:25Speaker 3: They didn't get that. They you know, they on the
- 21:28Speaker 3: back end. I thought they're very light on the back
- 21:30Speaker 3: end as well. And then it was the biggest thing
- 21:32Speaker 3: they needed to dress was fucking goaltending. And they don't
- 21:34Speaker 3: go out and get it go they go get Peter Morazak.
- 21:36Speaker 3: And I love Peter Mrazak, but he's not a number
- 21:39Speaker 3: one goalie and they don't have a number one there,
- 21:41Speaker 3: so I think him dodging the questions was like a
- 21:43Speaker 3: little bit like seemed a little arrogant to me. As
- 21:46Speaker 3: much as I love him as a player and I've
- 21:48Speaker 3: liked what he's done, but it was a little arrogant
- 21:50Speaker 3: to kind of be like put it back on the players,
- 21:53Speaker 3: Like I understand Dylan Larkin's probably out of line. You
- 21:56Speaker 3: don't want to air your dirty laundry, but they must
- 21:58Speaker 3: seem like there's nowhere else to look, and and and
- 22:01Speaker 3: there must be a big kind of disconnect between management
- 22:05Speaker 3: and the players, which at the end of the day,
- 22:06Speaker 3: you're a player, you're getting paid, you have to play.
- 22:08Speaker 3: I don't think the players, to a man inside the
- 22:10Speaker 3: locker room was was held accountable enough. But you also
- 22:14Speaker 3: got to thank Steve Iers mean, you got to give him,
- 22:16Speaker 3: give him a shot, reward him for their good play.
- 22:19Speaker 4: And they didn't do any such things.
- 22:20Speaker 3: So yeah, so it's an interesting little it's a turn
- 22:24Speaker 3: into a fucking soap opera.
- 22:25Speaker 1: In the NHL two last thoughts. Salivon was an assistant
- 22:28Speaker 1: with the Rangers under Jean turn Ross. That'd be a
- 22:30Speaker 1: homecoming on Broadway. And as for Eiserman, he said, I've
- 22:33Speaker 1: address Dylan's comments directly with Dylan. I will not elaborate.
- 22:36Speaker 1: If Dylan wants to share what I had to stay
- 22:37Speaker 1: with him, he's.
- 22:38Speaker 2: More than welcome. You can read the lines, not that.
- 22:41Speaker 4: Do I have time for a question for you or
- 22:43Speaker 4: after this?
- 22:43Speaker 2: Please?
- 22:45Speaker 4: My question for you too is did you see Jimmy
- 22:47Speaker 4: Rutherford today? I didn't.
- 22:49Speaker 3: Well, when when they Jim Rutherford in his comments, so
- 22:53Speaker 3: when they let go of Rick talking imparted ways. He
- 22:56Speaker 3: said he tried to call Quinn Hughes and he said
- 22:59Speaker 3: Quinn Hughes didn't pick up his call. And he hopes
- 23:01Speaker 3: he was golfing. But yeah, Quinn Hughes posts a game
- 23:04Speaker 3: posted a picture from the Knicks game.
- 23:06Speaker 1: I just think when Hughes is like me, he wants
- 23:08Speaker 1: to see jail and bruns and breaking. Okay, that's been
- 23:09Speaker 1: an unbelievable scirit.
- 23:11Speaker 3: With his little high ankle sprain the last time. Not good,
- 23:13Speaker 3: no point out. What are they thinking not calling a
- 23:16Speaker 3: timeout or.
- 23:16Speaker 4: Drawing a foul?
- 23:17Speaker 2: All right?
- 23:18Speaker 1: This is not basketball, this is hockey. And up next
- 23:20Speaker 1: to Saturday Night Live. Alex moffittt from SNL an interview
- 23:23Speaker 1: unlike you've ever heard before.
- 23:25Speaker 2: It's next here an NHL inscripted after this, Our.
- 23:39Speaker 1: Next guest was a cast member on Saturday Night Live
- 23:41Speaker 1: for six seasons.
- 23:42Speaker 2: His film and television credits.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Include everything from Bad Monkey to Kind Of Pregnant, to
- 23:46Speaker 1: Billions to the Bayor to eighty for Brady to Clifford
- 23:49Speaker 1: the Big Red Dog, a number of major projects coming soon,
- 23:52Speaker 1: and most importantly, he's joining us from the golf course.
- 23:54Speaker 1: He's been caught up to this turn that cart off
- 23:56Speaker 1: and locking with us, Alex moffatt, ladies and gentlemen.
- 23:58Speaker 2: Alex is great to see it. Thanks so much for
- 24:00Speaker 2: doing this, man.
- 24:01Speaker 6: My pleasure. The cart's off for now bye. You know
- 24:05Speaker 6: when I have to go to my next shot, We'll
- 24:08Speaker 6: see what.
- 24:08Speaker 4: Happens, gas powered. I just go for it.
- 24:13Speaker 6: I only play all the world's great courses. Uh this
- 24:17Speaker 6: time deep in the heart of South Bokland.
- 24:21Speaker 8: Yes Andrews, Andrews.
- 24:25Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, the st Andrews of Southern Southern Brooklyn.
- 24:30Speaker 2: Listen.
- 24:30Speaker 1: I want to start with the hockey content with your
- 24:32Speaker 1: first Alex, your pay and ann l sketch in which
- 24:36Speaker 1: chance of rapper was Laslhome's the NHL. Who doesn't know
- 24:40Speaker 1: anything about hockey, tell me all about how that sketch
- 24:42Speaker 1: came together.
- 24:43Speaker 2: It's an all time classic.
- 24:45Speaker 8: It is a classic.
- 24:46Speaker 6: Well, I didn't write it, and I sort of just
- 24:48Speaker 6: read off the cue cards.
- 24:49Speaker 8: But I'm happy to tell you whatever. Uh.
- 24:55Speaker 6: Mikey Day and Streeter Sidell, his writing partner, wrote that gem,
- 24:59Speaker 6: that beauty, that classic, and uh yeah, I I'm method.
- 25:06Speaker 6: So I went to hockey camp and then became a
- 25:09Speaker 6: professional for a solid two days in preparation for that
- 25:15Speaker 6: shadowed Jason Demers, so I get just so I could
- 25:20Speaker 6: see how a real pro lives and then kind of
- 25:24Speaker 6: put me in the right headspace and I was able
- 25:25Speaker 6: to create one of television's all time great characters.
- 25:29Speaker 1: Well, listen the fact that you went method. I'm just
- 25:31Speaker 1: curious to Brady Sae ever approach you. Any Rangers players
- 25:33Speaker 1: ever talked to you about it?
- 25:34Speaker 6: Not a one. I've never heard word one from any
- 25:41Speaker 6: NHL player ever regarding that or anything else.
- 25:45Speaker 2: Maybe it just didn't hit in that community. Then that's fine.
- 25:46Speaker 2: Doesn't it hit for me?
- 25:49Speaker 3: It hit for the retired community, which was which I
- 25:51Speaker 3: had a lot of time on my hands, asking.
- 25:53Speaker 6: Well, that's great, Yeah, that was my that's who I
- 25:58Speaker 6: wanted to target. Yeah, the producers told me to target
- 26:04Speaker 6: it Jason and all his retired buds, and I'm glad
- 26:07Speaker 6: that we brought it home.
- 26:10Speaker 4: Alex. You know I met you quick backstory.
- 26:13Speaker 3: I met him he was doing an off Broadway show
- 26:15Speaker 3: with with my wife Jillian, and he was just fantastic
- 26:18Speaker 3: in it.
- 26:18Speaker 4: But you know, we talked a little bit throughout the show.
- 26:22Speaker 3: But I you know, getting back to Saturday Night Live,
- 26:24Speaker 3: like how you know, I always equate that a little
- 26:27Speaker 3: bit to a sports team, just how you guys, you know,
- 26:29Speaker 3: play off each other and you're working together, you're working
- 26:32Speaker 3: in unison. But also you know, certain people shine, like
- 26:35Speaker 3: like you said, in certain moments, like you didn't write
- 26:38Speaker 3: a certain sketch, but you're gonna help and support. So
- 26:41Speaker 3: how is it with that and where do you kind
- 26:43Speaker 3: of feel you fell within that team framework?
- 26:48Speaker 6: Very yeah, absolutely well growing up playing team sports, I
- 26:52Speaker 6: do feel like I I mean I was a point
- 26:57Speaker 6: guard and such, and like you know, my high school
- 27:00Speaker 6: where I graduated with forty kids, so I'm not really
- 27:04Speaker 6: dampen my suspenders too much, but I like to get
- 27:08Speaker 6: an assist. I like to shoot from time to time,
- 27:10Speaker 6: just to use some sports metaphors, and so yeah, you gotta.
- 27:15Speaker 6: I always like to think of comedy as a team sport.
- 27:17Speaker 6: I mean, unless you're doing stand up, which of course
- 27:20Speaker 6: then you're not passing, you're just shooting the whole time
- 27:25Speaker 6: and helping that for a decent shot percentage. But yeah,
- 27:30Speaker 6: all right, at SNL, I mean it is all about
- 27:33Speaker 6: like we're all pulling in the right direction, and honestly,
- 27:36Speaker 6: not just not just the.
- 27:37Speaker 8: Cast, but like the writers and everything.
- 27:40Speaker 6: You just try to like supplement your ego every week
- 27:45Speaker 6: to try to be a team player and do do
- 27:49Speaker 6: what's needed to get a win.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Excellent, use to sublimate as we continue right now. You're
- 27:54Speaker 1: no stranger to podcast other alan you got. You're part
- 27:58Speaker 1: of an incredible cast in the Audible series The sixty
- 28:00Speaker 1: fourth Man String. John Cena just saw him at Wrestlemedia
- 28:03Speaker 1: and it as well. I mean, how cool has that
- 28:05Speaker 1: experience been?
- 28:07Speaker 4: Uh?
- 28:08Speaker 8: That was great?
- 28:09Speaker 5: I mean that was.
- 28:11Speaker 6: You know, a little I love to do a little
- 28:14Speaker 6: what do you call it, boys over from time to time.
- 28:17Speaker 6: I mean, it's the easiest paycheck in the world. Allows
- 28:20Speaker 6: me to play the Saint Andrews of Southern Brooklyn an
- 28:25Speaker 6: he wins that I want no, but John Cena is
- 28:31Speaker 6: the nicest.
- 28:32Speaker 8: Guy in the world.
- 28:34Speaker 6: And do you guys want to see if I make
- 28:36Speaker 6: this too fudd to fudder to too for Birdie.
- 28:42Speaker 3: As you're as you're talking and draining a putt would
- 28:45Speaker 3: be the ultimate.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Yeah, finish the thought on, John Cena while you make
- 28:48Speaker 1: the putt right Camraing, So you know your you know
- 28:51Speaker 1: your golf spots.
- 28:52Speaker 8: I do well, I'm I'm okay this.
- 28:57Speaker 4: Left to right.
- 29:00Speaker 8: I'm gonna you think left. Get out of here, Jason,
- 29:03Speaker 8: left to right.
- 29:05Speaker 4: Gee, I'm saying stage right.
- 29:09Speaker 6: I know he's a good golfer. That's why you did.
- 29:11Speaker 6: I think this is this is right in This is literally.
- 29:15Speaker 2: Good use of stage right.
- 29:17Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 29:18Speaker 6: Yeah, first birdie of the day, right, literally first birdie
- 29:25Speaker 6: of the day. So thank you guys. All right, well,
- 29:30Speaker 6: I gotta go. This has been a really good chat.
- 29:33Speaker 1: Let's get a couple more in that you can go
- 29:35Speaker 1: go ahead, Ja, I'm just kidding.
- 29:36Speaker 8: I'm just kidding.
- 29:38Speaker 6: I realized, I realized what a pain in the ass
- 29:40Speaker 6: i've been.
- 29:41Speaker 8: So thank you for being paid.
- 29:42Speaker 4: You're such a pain in the ass. And I absolutely
- 29:44Speaker 4: love it too.
- 29:45Speaker 3: You're you're you're a good paid talk about being doing
- 29:50Speaker 3: that Broadway right, Broadways broad right, Broadway around in the
- 29:55Speaker 3: Lower East at Orpheum Theater, Big Gay Jambrie, you were.
- 29:58Speaker 3: You were unbelievable. You did a lot of improv on
- 30:01Speaker 3: a lot of your lines, and it was it was incredible.
- 30:04Speaker 3: As off the cuff. It was scary because sometimes the
- 30:08Speaker 3: producers were in the building and I was like, oh
- 30:09Speaker 3: my god, they're just beat red because you just went
- 30:12Speaker 3: off and hauled off on everybody. How was that, you know?
- 30:15Speaker 3: Coming up with that? Is that just in the moment
- 30:17Speaker 3: or is it something that you write down a little bit?
- 30:19Speaker 3: You j got down some notes before the show.
- 30:21Speaker 6: I mainly tried to go off the dome, but I
- 30:27Speaker 6: would certainly write down notes. So something occurred to me,
- 30:30Speaker 6: It was mainly just like you know, an exit monologue
- 30:33Speaker 6: where I'm storming out of the theater and kind of
- 30:36Speaker 6: shitting on our leading lady a little bit, the amazing
- 30:40Speaker 6: Marlon Mindel, and then also trying to shit on the
- 30:42Speaker 6: play as I on the musical. So if a thought
- 30:47Speaker 6: occurred to me overnight, I would certainly like spring.
- 30:49Speaker 8: Out of my bed and like jot it down in
- 30:51Speaker 8: my notes. But yeah, I was.
- 30:56Speaker 2: It was.
- 30:58Speaker 6: Definitely one of those exercises in trying to push it
- 31:02Speaker 6: as far as I could and let the produces kind
- 31:05Speaker 6: of tell me where the line was, which they did
- 31:08Speaker 6: early on, and in fact it was.
- 31:11Speaker 8: For a long time it was entirely improvised. And then
- 31:14Speaker 8: as I.
- 31:17Speaker 4: Said, I think.
- 31:19Speaker 6: It was one where I said I was stormy on
- 31:21Speaker 6: I said I'm going to go get a gun and
- 31:23Speaker 6: they said, you know what they said, Alex nobody liked that,
- 31:29Speaker 6: and and I agreed. It was sort of in the
- 31:32Speaker 6: heat of the moment, and I don't know what came
- 31:33Speaker 6: over me, but that was that was kind of when
- 31:36Speaker 6: they said, we're gonna put some parameters on what you
- 31:40Speaker 6: can say, and I said, I totally get it because
- 31:43Speaker 6: that was untoward. Nobody needed to say that, and I apologize.
- 31:48Speaker 6: And that was when they rained me in big time
- 31:52Speaker 6: and told me basically the four things that I could say.
- 31:57Speaker 8: And then it was a lot less fun, but it
- 32:00Speaker 8: was also.
- 32:02Speaker 6: Within the within the you know, the boundaries of what
- 32:05Speaker 6: they desired. So everybody won and I lost.
- 32:09Speaker 3: Well, I won because that I think I was there
- 32:12Speaker 3: for that one gun one and I might have been
- 32:14Speaker 3: the only I was.
- 32:15Speaker 4: There's people laughing.
- 32:16Speaker 3: I was cackling because I was waiting for because he
- 32:20Speaker 3: would be walking out of the theater screaming back at
- 32:23Speaker 3: the cast, so everybody could see the cast trying not
- 32:26Speaker 3: to break and he is saying and no one knows
- 32:28Speaker 3: what he's saying, and he is just saying heinous things
- 32:31Speaker 3: to the cast and the leading lady, Marla Mindel, and
- 32:33Speaker 3: these these actors are just trying not to laugh, and
- 32:36Speaker 3: everybody in the theater is just going bananas. So it's
- 32:39Speaker 3: just an amazing thing. And I mean, you had, you know,
- 32:43Speaker 3: being an improv guy. It's just crazy to see what
- 32:47Speaker 3: the talent level that you guys have. And it's not
- 32:49Speaker 3: talks about enough of how where that comes from in
- 32:52Speaker 3: the space you pull that from.
- 32:54Speaker 8: Thanks Ben, Yeah, it was.
- 32:56Speaker 6: I mean, the talent level in that cast was off
- 32:59Speaker 6: the charts. The least I could do was try to
- 33:02Speaker 6: improvise my keystra off everything, because I sure as hell
- 33:05Speaker 6: wasn't gonna pull my weight in the singing portion of
- 33:09Speaker 6: the show. Where again, from the time we started the
- 33:13Speaker 6: process of that show where I had a full song solo,
- 33:17Speaker 6: so the next phase of the process where I shared
- 33:21Speaker 6: that song with other people till the final phase where
- 33:25Speaker 6: we were actually on stage doing it, and I was
- 33:28Speaker 6: no longer in that song. You know, they knew that
- 33:33Speaker 6: the mof Dog only needed to sing about fifteen seconds.
- 33:36Speaker 8: Towards the end, padded by other better voices.
- 33:39Speaker 6: So I had to bring some good, hard yuck yucks
- 33:43Speaker 6: in me impropit words and to pull my way because
- 33:46Speaker 6: your wife included everybody in that cap had an insane voice.
- 33:49Speaker 8: It was crazy.
- 33:52Speaker 1: You're no slouchy Alex speaking of improvo. Coming from Chicago,
- 33:56Speaker 1: you're part of Second City. Jason and I often asked
- 33:58Speaker 1: as Canadians, why are Canadians so funny? Why are Chicago
- 34:01Speaker 1: and so funny? I mean legendary, the stepa Wolf and
- 34:03Speaker 1: Second City, that whold experience.
- 34:05Speaker 6: I think Chicagoans have a chip on their shoulder. I'm
- 34:09Speaker 6: no different. I wouldn't be surprised if Canadians do too,
- 34:13Speaker 6: not necessarily in a dickhead way, but one where you
- 34:18Speaker 6: kind of have a little something to prove, you know
- 34:20Speaker 6: what I mean, Like you're you guys. I mean, congrats
- 34:25Speaker 6: by the way, I'm becoming the fifty first state because
- 34:28Speaker 6: I think that'll maybe.
- 34:32Speaker 3: Please We're dicks through through smiling teeth, That's what it is.
- 34:37Speaker 6: Yeah, very very nice natural teeth.
- 34:40Speaker 4: By the way, thank you, not fake at all.
- 34:43Speaker 6: I do like your chompers, but I've also seen you
- 34:46Speaker 6: without them, and both are just beauty.
- 34:49Speaker 4: I appreciate it.
- 34:51Speaker 6: I think, I seriously, it's such a cool look when
- 34:53Speaker 6: a hockey player doesn't have teeth, like and I think
- 34:56Speaker 6: you told me what you like, had them replaced enough
- 34:59Speaker 6: times where then they were based your dentists were like,
- 35:03Speaker 6: actually you should just wait until you're retired, because you're
- 35:09Speaker 6: basically you're just gonna screw yourself up here, and just
- 35:12Speaker 6: go with the tooth.
- 35:13Speaker 3: Let's look, yeah, they said, they said, just look like
- 35:16Speaker 3: a homeless person, because if you get your teeth knocked
- 35:19Speaker 3: out one more time, you're going to be permanently a
- 35:22Speaker 3: homeless person. So they're like, just just do your thing.
- 35:25Speaker 3: And I was like all right, yeah. And I had
- 35:26Speaker 3: to go to my wife and be like, are you
- 35:27Speaker 3: okay with this? And she's like, I mean, it's kind
- 35:29Speaker 3: of a funny gimmick. And I was like, all right,
- 35:30Speaker 3: let's roll with it.
- 35:31Speaker 6: Ice breaking, Yeah, it's a good icebreaker.
- 35:35Speaker 2: It is.
- 35:37Speaker 3: Talk a little bit more about Second City though, like
- 35:39Speaker 3: coming from there and how hard it was kind of
- 35:42Speaker 3: getting your chops there and and working on your craft
- 35:46Speaker 3: because that's just an iconic place it is.
- 35:51Speaker 6: Yeah. I did the training center there, but and then
- 35:56Speaker 6: I did a cruise ship gig for four months aboard
- 35:59Speaker 6: the prestigious Norwegian Jewel and and other than that, I didn't.
- 36:06Speaker 6: I never did their touring company or their main stage.
- 36:09Speaker 6: But training there was great.
- 36:11Speaker 8: It was.
- 36:13Speaker 6: Like my first foray into improv, and it was after college,
- 36:16Speaker 6: and it was.
- 36:17Speaker 8: Exactly what I wanted and needed, and it was.
- 36:21Speaker 6: Yeah, it was just a blast.
- 36:22Speaker 9: You start to meet really really fun, like minded people
- 36:26Speaker 9: who are just looking to get together a few times
- 36:31Speaker 9: a week and makeup bs and try to make each
- 36:36Speaker 9: other laugh.
- 36:36Speaker 8: It was it was a blast.
- 36:37Speaker 6: The main thing was like just finding my little community
- 36:42Speaker 6: of you know, fellow improv nerds. But the places where
- 36:47Speaker 6: there were a few other theaters where I would say
- 36:48Speaker 6: I got a little bit more experience that maybe served
- 36:52Speaker 6: me better for the rest of my career, which were
- 36:56Speaker 6: the Annoyance Theater, which anybody out there, if you ever
- 36:59Speaker 6: go to Chicago and you're looking to see like the
- 37:00Speaker 6: best comedy in town, it's at the Annoyance Theater. It
- 37:04Speaker 6: is like cutting edge, it's different. It's I hate this expression,
- 37:12Speaker 6: but out of the boss uh, and it's very like unexpected.
- 37:16Speaker 6: So the Annoyance is the coolest, greatest there in Chicago.
- 37:20Speaker 6: Second City is fun too, But yeah, I'm I'm an
- 37:23Speaker 6: Annoyance guy, is what I would say. And it was.
- 37:26Speaker 6: It was rigorous because there is a little bit of
- 37:29Speaker 6: a sense of competition too in the community, Like you know,
- 37:33Speaker 6: you want to you want to be as good as
- 37:36Speaker 6: you can and so you should do it as much
- 37:38Speaker 6: as you can, and so like, yeah, there were years
- 37:40Speaker 6: where I was doing shows like six nights a week,
- 37:43Speaker 6: whether it was like improv or stand up or sketch
- 37:46Speaker 6: or one man show or whatever.
- 37:48Speaker 8: Like I just tried to get out there and get
- 37:50Speaker 8: my reps.
- 37:52Speaker 1: Last time for me, Alex, I understand you went to
- 37:54Speaker 1: school with all the members of Fall Up Boy?
- 37:56Speaker 4: Is that correct?
- 37:56Speaker 2: Same high school?
- 37:58Speaker 6: Yes, North Shore Country Day and when that get on
- 38:01Speaker 6: OI Go Raiders, uh all the field. Yes, Pete wentz.
- 38:07Speaker 6: He was a senior when I was a freshman.
- 38:09Speaker 8: I'm very cur the interesting research you did.
- 38:13Speaker 6: Yes, Pete and I don't really keep up. Although funny enough,
- 38:17Speaker 6: when just two weeks ago my wife and I were
- 38:21Speaker 6: back on the North Or of Chicago when I ran
- 38:23Speaker 6: into his mom at the grocery store and we did
- 38:26Speaker 6: catch up, and it sounds like Pete is doing well.
- 38:29Speaker 6: So what are the odds.
- 38:32Speaker 8: His other two siblings, Yes.
- 38:35Speaker 3: They're they're touring nicely. Talk about like as a Chicago guy.
- 38:39Speaker 3: For me, My last one just about you know, growing
- 38:41Speaker 3: up growing up in that sports town, coming up in
- 38:44Speaker 3: that sports town. You know, what were some of any
- 38:47Speaker 3: memories you have for many of the sports team doesn't
- 38:49Speaker 3: have to be the black Hawks, but any of them,
- 38:50Speaker 3: the Cubs, the White Sox.
- 38:51Speaker 4: I mean, there's it's such a rich history there.
- 38:54Speaker 9: It really is.
- 38:55Speaker 6: It's the best sports town in America, all of North America.
- 38:59Speaker 8: I will say too.
- 39:01Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean growing up like being a kid in
- 39:05Speaker 6: the nineties in Chicago, which Jordan Pippen bowls, Uh, it was.
- 39:12Speaker 8: It was crazy.
- 39:12Speaker 6: It was like being a kid in like the twenties
- 39:16Speaker 6: in the Bronx or something with you know, Babe Ruth
- 39:19Speaker 6: and Lou Garrig playing. It was like, I I still
- 39:22Speaker 6: can't believe that I was at the center of the
- 39:24Speaker 6: basketball universe because like I thankfully friends who had more
- 39:29Speaker 6: money took me to games at the United Center and uh,
- 39:33Speaker 6: I it was. It was great. I got to see
- 39:35Speaker 6: Jordan play, got to go to some playoff games like
- 39:38Speaker 6: my my best friend's dad's company tickets Holler Bell Flavors
- 39:43Speaker 6: and Fragrances, uh and so.
- 39:47Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 39:47Speaker 6: And then also they had like seats at the United
- 39:50Speaker 6: States so I would also go to the occasional Blackhawks game,
- 39:55Speaker 6: and like there were some good Blackhawks teams.
- 39:57Speaker 8: I was a big Chillios fan back in the night.
- 40:01Speaker 3: Some people say ad Nan looks like Chilio's, or he'll
- 40:04Speaker 3: he looks like Chilio's.
- 40:06Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't see it, but that's great that some
- 40:09Speaker 6: people tell you that.
- 40:11Speaker 1: I was just in Edmonton. I was my dear friend Mike,
- 40:14Speaker 1: my great friends from college. We're leaving the guy because up,
- 40:16Speaker 1: he goes, excuse me you, Chris Jellio's. And I looked
- 40:18Speaker 1: at Mike. He's a huge habswag of Mike. Can you
- 40:20Speaker 1: verify this guy? Thinks him Chris Jellious. He loved it.
- 40:22Speaker 6: Wow, Well I don't know what happened to that guy's eyes.
- 40:27Speaker 2: But glacka go ahead.
- 40:29Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 40:30Speaker 6: My Also, I actually had a I had a hockey
- 40:33Speaker 6: stick signed by every member of the nineteen eighty six Blackhawks.
- 40:38Speaker 2: Nice uh.
- 40:40Speaker 6: And then I gave it to a friend of mine.
- 40:43Speaker 8: That sounds right.
- 40:44Speaker 6: I gave it to one of my best friends who's
- 40:46Speaker 6: a bigger hockey fan than me, and it was I
- 40:48Speaker 6: knew he would appreciate it more more than me. But
- 40:51Speaker 6: I hung onto it for a good twenty years. It
- 40:54Speaker 6: might be worth something, although I don't think it was
- 40:56Speaker 6: a great team.
- 40:56Speaker 3: So anyhow, he's now sold in his living in a
- 41:00Speaker 3: mansion sodod in the world.
- 41:03Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 41:04Speaker 6: I wonder how he came into that money. But also
- 41:12Speaker 6: this was fun. I don't know, you want sports memories,
- 41:15Speaker 6: what else? I went to the nineteen nine again friends
- 41:19Speaker 6: friends from who have wealthy parents. A friend of mine
- 41:23Speaker 6: took me as his bud to the what they used
- 41:26Speaker 6: to call workout day at Wrigley Field in the I
- 41:29Speaker 6: think it was the eighty nine or ninety one All
- 41:32Speaker 6: Star Break, whichever one was at Wrigley Field, and so
- 41:36Speaker 6: it was like the day before the All Star Game
- 41:38Speaker 6: when they used to have the old time Old Timers
- 41:40Speaker 6: game and the home Run Derby, And we sat in
- 41:43Speaker 6: the bleachers at Wrigley and watched Ryan Samberg, my favorite
- 41:47Speaker 6: player still maybe of all time, win the home run
- 41:50Speaker 6: derby at home number twenty three, the other number twenty
- 41:53Speaker 6: three in Chicago.
- 41:55Speaker 2: I love Ryan Samberg, Rhino. That's a great one.
- 41:58Speaker 4: Yeah, winning the derby too, that's a fun event.
- 42:01Speaker 8: It was super cool.
- 42:03Speaker 2: Alex, this was super We're cool for us man.
- 42:05Speaker 1: Thank you so much for multitask and getting U in
- 42:07Speaker 1: and we look forward all your projects.
- 42:09Speaker 2: All this is great.
- 42:10Speaker 6: I'm trying guys, I series and really thank you guys
- 42:14Speaker 6: for being my good luck charm, because I was getting
- 42:17Speaker 6: ready to walk off this course. It was really looking bleak.
- 42:20Speaker 6: And uh then again the court. The whole before I
- 42:23Speaker 6: signed on with you was I was starting to put
- 42:26Speaker 6: it together.
- 42:27Speaker 8: And then the one hole that I played.
- 42:28Speaker 6: While we did this was my one and only birdie
- 42:31Speaker 6: of the day. So I can't say enough about how
- 42:33Speaker 6: much I appreciate.
- 42:34Speaker 8: You guys bringing that to me today. Thank you.
- 42:37Speaker 1: M hmm, Well, thanks Alex. Listen your guy JD. I
- 42:45Speaker 1: mean you've seen him on Broadway. As you said in
- 42:47Speaker 1: that interview, he's gotta he's in a mean streak sometimes
- 42:49Speaker 1: and it's all performers. Fine, well quirky, you know, just
- 42:52Speaker 1: on the golf course hitting birdies. We'll talking to us, Yeah,
- 42:54Speaker 1: I think.
- 42:54Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 42:55Speaker 3: Tal kind of pissed him off for the show. So
- 42:58Speaker 3: but you know by telling him to turn off the
- 43:00Speaker 3: golf cart, Yeah, you can't. You can't listen.
- 43:02Speaker 4: You gotta let a guy just get in the care
- 43:04Speaker 4: character and perform.
- 43:06Speaker 2: We gotta go see him perform.
- 43:07Speaker 6: Now.
- 43:07Speaker 2: We gotta see Piven and Moffatt in person.
- 43:09Speaker 4: It's great, guys, run script, he's really good. We gotta go.
- 43:13Speaker 3: We look at us. Are we a comedy podcast here?
- 43:18Speaker 1: We don't know what we're doing right now, we're gonna
- 43:21Speaker 1: turn our attest to the theater cinephil and sixty going
- 43:24Speaker 1: on Broadway. I've seen now the third iteration of Glengarry
- 43:27Speaker 1: glen Ross, one of my favorite plays ever, the great
- 43:29Speaker 1: David Mammott. Years ago while living in Toronto. This is
- 43:31Speaker 1: what a big fan nam of Glen Garry glen Ross.
- 43:33Speaker 1: I had some buddies that go, let's drive down, let's
- 43:34Speaker 1: make it a Broadway weekend. We'll go watch a Yankee game,
- 43:37Speaker 1: go hit the meat packing district. Amazing we have Shreiber
- 43:40Speaker 1: played Ricky Roma. For those who know the movie, that's
- 43:42Speaker 1: the al Pacino role. Alan Alda played the machine Levine
- 43:45Speaker 1: and Jeffrey Tamboer, one of my favorite actors, played Erino.
- 43:48Speaker 2: That was amazing.
- 43:49Speaker 1: In that one liv Schreiber won the Tony Were for
- 43:51Speaker 1: Best Actor. Then ten years ago I saw al Pacino,
- 43:54Speaker 1: who again in the movie was Ricky Roma, on stage
- 43:56Speaker 1: he was Chollie Levine, so he's playing the Jack Lemon role.
- 43:59Speaker 1: And Bobby Kinna Valley played Ricky Roma. And now this
- 44:02Speaker 1: recent week and I went and saw Kieran Kolkin hot
- 44:04Speaker 1: Off succession and a real pain Emmy winner and an oscarinner.
- 44:07Speaker 1: I'm gonna go win a Tony. I'm gonna go do
- 44:09Speaker 1: Ricky Roma with David mammont On, Glen Garglen, Ross, Bob
- 44:12Speaker 1: Odenkirk stole the show unbelievable. Of course, love him as
- 44:14Speaker 1: better call Saul. He was showing the machine Levine and
- 44:16Speaker 1: Bill Burr, who is not an actor.
- 44:17Speaker 2: He's a comedian.
- 44:18Speaker 1: I do that he's but he's amazing as Moss because
- 44:21Speaker 1: Ed Harris was so good in the movie.
- 44:22Speaker 2: He's just an angry character.
- 44:23Speaker 1: Fuck you, fucked the lot of you, fuck you all.
- 44:25Speaker 1: I mean, this is Bill Burr doing his act. He's
- 44:27Speaker 1: just an angry salesman. So didn't really feel like a stretch.
- 44:29Speaker 1: But here's what I want to tell you about. The
- 44:31Speaker 1: play is electrifying. It's again with Mammot's words, you can't lose.
- 44:34Speaker 1: It's got that staccato dialect and the repetition makes you
- 44:37Speaker 1: think of the great joke years ago. A rich man
- 44:40Speaker 1: is walking by a bum and the bum asked for
- 44:42Speaker 1: some money. In the richman says, neither a borrower nor
- 44:44Speaker 1: a lender. B William Shakespeare and he walks away, and
- 44:47Speaker 1: the bum thinks for second he goes, oh, huah, fuck you,
- 44:49Speaker 1: David mammontt So often is Mammont's dialect synonymous with that
- 44:54Speaker 1: gutter level profanity. The play ends and Odin Kirk comes out.
- 44:57Speaker 1: They all dough the bows, and he goes, all right,
- 44:58Speaker 1: I hope you enjoyed the play. I want to talk
- 45:01Speaker 1: to you guys about this Broadway Cares organization.
- 45:03Speaker 2: We need your money.
- 45:04Speaker 1: Uh, we have another week left here, can you please
- 45:06Speaker 1: in the way out give some money? And Beilbur's laughing,
- 45:08Speaker 1: Carr goes lives ex seriously, listen, the country's never been
- 45:11Speaker 1: better for one case, flying through the roof the tariffs
- 45:13Speaker 1: of no issue Broadway. I mean, these tickets are very cheap. Now,
- 45:16Speaker 1: just please give us more of your money. Tell Broadway Cares.
- 45:18Speaker 1: But to be honest you they're gonna raise some more
- 45:19Speaker 1: funds with this.
- 45:20Speaker 2: He said.
- 45:20Speaker 1: We have this poster. You know, those playbill posters. We've
- 45:22Speaker 1: all signed them. There's some available outside four hundred dollars. Okay,
- 45:25Speaker 1: I mean adgress aren't what they want formber Okay. We
- 45:27Speaker 1: also have somebody else signed and this is something we
- 45:29Speaker 1: have really special. We have one of one.
- 45:31Speaker 2: We have the business cards of each of the casts.
- 45:34Speaker 1: So it says Ricky Roma, you know, Glen Gary, Glenross,
- 45:37Speaker 1: the actual business cards signed by Karen Calker on the back.
- 45:39Speaker 1: He goes every member of this cast, even James Link,
- 45:41Speaker 1: who is the vice principal Liberty Hig if you know
- 45:43Speaker 1: the play to the movie. Of course, he's the one
- 45:44Speaker 1: wh gets due by Ricky Roma.
- 45:46Speaker 2: One of one.
- 45:47Speaker 1: We're gonna do an auction right now? Do I hear
- 45:49Speaker 1: three hundred? We heard four hundred, five hundred, six hundred thousand,
- 45:53Speaker 1: fifteen hundred, And you know what it's like, Jay, I'm
- 45:55Speaker 1: not quite the back, but I'm in the middle, and
- 45:56Speaker 1: there's a one behind me who's screaming like you have
- 45:58Speaker 1: the hand up. She's ready to go, and I'm like,
- 45:59Speaker 1: they can't sear that far the house lights, et cetera.
- 46:01Speaker 1: The number gets up to twenty twenty, five hundred, three thousand,
- 46:04Speaker 1: thirty five hundred. To be clear, it's seven business cards
- 46:08Speaker 1: signed by the cast. We're up to four thousand dollars.
- 46:11Speaker 1: It gets up to five. Oden Grek goers, all right,
- 46:13Speaker 1: heng Hey, he calls it to Shelley.
- 46:14Speaker 2: What everbody goes?
- 46:15Speaker 1: Hey, can we get another one of these, Like I
- 46:16Speaker 1: know it's one of one, but like, this is crazy.
- 46:18Speaker 1: These guys are not gonna say no, we'll sign the
- 46:19Speaker 1: cards again because I got one more for you.
- 46:21Speaker 2: Whoever wins this.
- 46:23Speaker 1: You're gonna come back with this right now and have
- 46:24Speaker 1: a drink and Burs starts laughing again. You're gonna have
- 46:26Speaker 1: a drink with Bill Burr and me and Kate. We're
- 46:27Speaker 1: gonna hang out for fifteen minutes. You want selfies, you
- 46:29Speaker 1: want videos, you can hang out. Let's ask me any
- 46:31Speaker 1: question you want. Now the price goes up, the final bid,
- 46:36Speaker 1: and they had two of them because they go, let's
- 46:37Speaker 1: just give it to both these guys. Sixty eight hundred dollars. Unbelievable.
- 46:42Speaker 3: New York is alive and thriving. And they took and
- 46:46Speaker 3: they took the subway home with the bums.
- 46:49Speaker 1: Broadway Cares a live auction from Bob Odenkirk. It was
- 46:52Speaker 1: very entertaining and it's a great, great place, and I'll
- 46:54Speaker 1: go check it out, still playing for a couple more months.
- 46:57Speaker 1: To one point about Clen Garry, I would quickly point out,
- 47:00Speaker 1: because Tallasey's seen the movie, A lot of people go
- 47:02Speaker 1: to the play they go, I came with the Alec Baldwin. See, eh,
- 47:05Speaker 1: that's only in the movie. It's not in the original play.
- 47:07Speaker 1: My buddy ry Rusilo went years ago. He's like, oh,
- 47:09Speaker 1: where's the acbaal was?
- 47:10Speaker 2: There is no otball was.
- 47:11Speaker 1: Manett wrote that specifically for the movies, like what ABC
- 47:15Speaker 1: always be closing and go that's not in the play.
- 47:17Speaker 1: They're like, ah, so, just somebody be aware of that.
- 47:20Speaker 1: Great say not the play.
- 47:22Speaker 4: That's only in the movie.
- 47:23Speaker 2: Now you're not going.
- 47:24Speaker 1: Congratulations at Taylor Hall three year, nine point five million
- 47:27Speaker 1: dollar contract with the Carolina Hurricanes the day after the
- 47:29Speaker 1: team beat the Devil's Advanced secround of the playoffs. Yeah
- 47:32Speaker 1: Worthy praised thirty three year old Hall. It's interesting journey
- 47:34Speaker 1: Jay first overall pick twenty ten draft. He's playing the
- 47:37Speaker 1: second round, just the second time. It's his sixth team
- 47:40Speaker 1: in six seasons. But it looks like he finally has
- 47:43Speaker 1: found a good fit. I just think it's an interesting story.
- 47:45Speaker 1: Sometimes these guys come, they go out. He wasn't what
- 47:47Speaker 1: we're expecting is the first pick. He's had ups and downs,
- 47:49Speaker 1: but ultimately he's still playing hockey. He's still playing a
- 47:51Speaker 1: role in the team. You played briefly with Hall in Carolina.
- 47:54Speaker 1: What can you tell me about Taylor Hall?
- 47:56Speaker 3: I played with them in Arizona. But yeah, you know,
- 48:00Speaker 3: he's a great listen. He's a horse out there, and
- 48:02Speaker 3: I think he plays when he slotted in the right role,
- 48:05Speaker 3: he's extremely effective. And you know, I think people always
- 48:08Speaker 3: look back to that MVP year he had with the
- 48:10Speaker 3: Devils and wanted him to always recreate that, But I
- 48:13Speaker 3: don't think at his essence that's who he is as
- 48:15Speaker 3: a player. I think he's very much a secondary scorer
- 48:18Speaker 3: that can go up and down in terms of he
- 48:21Speaker 3: can provide you with top line offense, or he can
- 48:23Speaker 3: kind of be in a supporting cast. And I think
- 48:26Speaker 3: he again you see the Caroline Hurricanes. If you fit
- 48:29Speaker 3: that system, you fit that system. If you're a guy
- 48:31Speaker 3: that can skate and you can follow a system like
- 48:34Speaker 3: Rod Brendanmore implements, you're gonna be just fine and you're
- 48:37Speaker 3: going to thrive in that. In that kind of culture there,
- 48:39Speaker 3: you could see Logan Sankovin's another one. He kind of
- 48:41Speaker 3: fits the mold of what Rod Brendanmore likes, and I
- 48:43Speaker 3: think Taylor is a perfect fit. Good trade sometimes it's
- 48:47Speaker 3: the second piece of the trade that ends up being
- 48:49Speaker 3: the one that's the home run, and it's been a
- 48:51Speaker 3: home run for him. I think, you know, when you
- 48:52Speaker 3: get him at that price point, I think it's really good.
- 48:54Speaker 3: He takes care of himself. He did have a couple
- 48:56Speaker 3: of big injuries, but he's an absolute horse in the
- 49:00Speaker 3: gym and like I said, takes care of himself and
- 49:03Speaker 3: really just wants to play hockey and win. So good
- 49:06Speaker 3: to see. Congratulations to him. I love when guys get paid. Uh,
- 49:09Speaker 3: it's nice. Get your paiper boo boo, and hope we
- 49:13Speaker 3: have him on the show one day.
- 49:15Speaker 2: Nice, that'd be great.
- 49:16Speaker 4: Yeah, well, say if we can get him a.
- 49:18Speaker 1: Great nugget from tal Hart Trophy winners who have won
- 49:20Speaker 1: a Whaler's jersey at some point in their career, Gordie
- 49:22Speaker 1: how Bobby Hall, Chris Pronger, and Taylor Hall.
- 49:27Speaker 4: He did Yeah, yeah, the Whaler's nice little throwback.
- 49:29Speaker 2: Yeah, that's pretty good.
- 49:31Speaker 3: You know, if tal would, if his research would be
- 49:34Speaker 3: as good as those nuggets, I'd tell you what.
- 49:36Speaker 2: Anything, whalers, you're not going to beat. Tell like he's
- 49:38Speaker 2: looking at.
- 49:38Speaker 4: The whalers, He's he's.
- 49:40Speaker 3: Fucking dialed gotta get oulf Samus on the pod Olf
- 49:44Speaker 3: ghosted him.
- 49:45Speaker 4: Yeah, well, that's tough story.
- 49:47Speaker 1: From the time Barrett Hayton tight lipped about the Utah
- 49:50Speaker 1: Hockey Club's name when he appeared on our show. Great guy,
- 49:53Speaker 1: but just visibly uncomfortable. It felt like we were giving him,
- 49:56Speaker 1: like he was disclosing government secrets. He would not tell
- 49:59Speaker 1: us what's Utahn I mean just say yeah, yeah, he's
- 50:01Speaker 1: clearly the best thing. He's like, I'm really sure, guys,
- 50:04Speaker 1: but you the pup may have spoiled the surprise. Tuesday night,
- 50:07Speaker 1: the team's official YouTube channel briefly featured the handle Utah
- 50:11Speaker 1: Mammoth indicator the team will become the Mammoths next season. Well,
- 50:14Speaker 1: I just you said to me, you kind of like
- 50:16Speaker 1: Utah Hockey Club. I don't thank god it's not Utah
- 50:18Speaker 1: Hockey Club. I wouldn't mind of Utah was but honestly
- 50:22Speaker 1: it should have.
- 50:22Speaker 3: Been the YI are you nuts Utah wasat You're just
- 50:25Speaker 3: trying to get You're trying to go viral.
- 50:27Speaker 4: No, Utah Outlaws. Outlaws is good to be good because
- 50:32Speaker 4: the story of the Mormons.
- 50:34Speaker 1: But what do you think about the Mammoth Like mammoth
- 50:36Speaker 1: cracking big one tonight in Utah next awful.
- 50:38Speaker 4: I don't think it. I just I don't like it.
- 50:43Speaker 2: Okay, can you give me Yeddie is your second best option?
- 50:46Speaker 4: Yeah? No, of course. Utah Yeah, unbelievable.
- 50:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 50:49Speaker 4: Or I like the Utah.
- 50:51Speaker 3: Range because mountain ranges wasatch a lot of big mountains
- 50:54Speaker 3: of Utah Range. Something simple rolls off the tongue. But
- 50:58Speaker 3: I like the Utah Outlaws.
- 50:59Speaker 4: But listen, Utah Hockey Club is kind of I like
- 51:02Speaker 4: U tai Che gives it a little bit of a
- 51:04Speaker 4: European vibe.
- 51:05Speaker 1: And and yeah, that's why I don't like it.
- 51:07Speaker 2: I don't like.
- 51:10Speaker 4: You're, Yeah, you're you're.
- 51:11Speaker 2: I'm an isolationist. I don't like the European.
- 51:13Speaker 4: You're drill, Yeah, your drill, baby drill.
- 51:17Speaker 1: By the way, Yet he had copperate issues. Scroll pay
- 51:20Speaker 1: the fine. They should have done it.
- 51:20Speaker 4: Who cares they should have He's got enough money, Ryan Smith,
- 51:23Speaker 4: three stars?
- 51:23Speaker 2: What do you got, buddy?
- 51:25Speaker 3: Uh, I have to do it. I'm gonna go with
- 51:27Speaker 3: the rat King himself, Bradmarshamp. I think the last two
- 51:30Speaker 3: games in that Tampa Bay Lightning series, I just think
- 51:33Speaker 3: he was everything that they brought him in to be
- 51:36Speaker 3: and I think he's getting real comfortable and and just
- 51:38Speaker 3: it was great on the penalty kill, was great offensively,
- 51:43Speaker 3: uh did a ton of great playmaking and then was
- 51:47Speaker 3: physical and and shit disturbing, And that's what they need
- 51:50Speaker 3: out of him. And I just think it was a
- 51:52Speaker 3: little glimpse into what this team is really going to
- 51:55Speaker 3: be moving forward. And and right now I might switch
- 51:57Speaker 3: from Tampa Bay Lighting to Florida Panthers going to the finals.
- 52:00Speaker 2: Wow, Okay, that's bold. Before I get to Taos.
- 52:03Speaker 1: Pick Tom Wilson goal assists as the Capitals take care of.
- 52:06Speaker 2: Darryl Demurs the Montreal Canadians.
- 52:08Speaker 1: But it's not just because the performance on the ice
- 52:10Speaker 1: or his hit on Alexander Carrier. It's the fact that
- 52:12Speaker 1: he was wiping mocked tears. The best scene of fake
- 52:15Speaker 1: cranging he will see in the NHL playoffs. Tom Wilson
- 52:18Speaker 1: speaking of shit disturbing, agitating to the n DEGREE fun
- 52:21Speaker 1: player to watch out there on the ice.
- 52:22Speaker 2: Tommy Wilson's my start.
- 52:24Speaker 7: Tal Yeah, I'm gonna go with the guy who who
- 52:27Speaker 7: I feel doesn't get enough acknowledgment. And Evan Bouchard with
- 52:32Speaker 7: the Edmonton Oilers. He is keyed this turnaround for the
- 52:35Speaker 7: Oilers in their series with LA. I mean, I think
- 52:37Speaker 7: you could say the Kings have kind of keyed it
- 52:39Speaker 7: by choking every game. But you know, two goals in
- 52:42Speaker 7: Game three, two goals in Game four. He played almost
- 52:45Speaker 7: thirty six minutes in Game four in that overtime win.
- 52:49Speaker 1: He is the Chris Bosh of the Big three.
- 52:52Speaker 5: I'm gonna be erring to wait too.
- 52:54Speaker 3: Zach Hyman. Zach Hyman's not Chris Bosh. No, I would
- 52:58Speaker 3: say I would.
- 52:59Speaker 5: Call bigger part of their offense than Zach kimon Is.
- 53:01Speaker 4: Yeah, but I would call him the Ray Allen. Is
- 53:05Speaker 4: that part of the same.
- 53:07Speaker 5: I would call him in the Ray Allen. I think.
- 53:11Speaker 4: Buchard would be more of a three point shooter than Shack.
- 53:15Speaker 1: But to be clear, Toal's trying to say the third
- 53:16Speaker 1: biggest star, I think that's what you're.
- 53:17Speaker 2: Trying to say.
- 53:18Speaker 4: Yes, he's, yeah, the biggest piece of their offense.
- 53:21Speaker 7: Obviously defensively, he's not exactly a shutdown guy, but he is.
- 53:24Speaker 5: You know, he was listening five.
- 53:27Speaker 7: He was top five in d man scoring this season
- 53:29Speaker 7: on what he was considered a down year for him.
- 53:32Speaker 5: Compared to last year.
- 53:33Speaker 7: Defensively second in playoffs scoring among the men behind Cam Fowler,
- 53:38Speaker 7: who's you know, gone off in the first round for
- 53:40Speaker 7: Saint Louis. I mean, I think he's a huge part
- 53:43Speaker 7: of that team moving forward in these playoffs, and so
- 53:45Speaker 7: that's why we're going to give him a little more attention.
- 53:49Speaker 3: I I'm always bullish on him because you know, people
- 53:52Speaker 3: always have really he's really knee jerk reactionary every game
- 53:56Speaker 3: because you're either going to get really good or really bad.
- 53:58Speaker 3: And I just think what makes him so good is
- 54:01Speaker 3: what infuriates people is that he's so calm in the pocket,
- 54:04Speaker 3: just like a quarterback, and he makes fucking bad turnovers
- 54:08Speaker 3: and he has laxed today's goal at times. But that's
- 54:10Speaker 3: what makes him so good is his heart beat is
- 54:12Speaker 3: never above sixty beats per minute.
- 54:16Speaker 1: Three stars and playing More stars to come as we
