- 0:00Hi everyone, just a quick one from editing me here.
- 0:03I was trying a different mic technique to get rid of mouth
- 0:08sounds. I was trying to take some
- 0:11feedback on board. I know that this room is really
- 0:13small and really soundproof, so it picks up like I guess all the
- 0:17little mouth sounds when I talk. And I was trying some different
- 0:21techniques that I saw online and really didn't work.
- 0:25So I'm really sorry. You can really hear the the mic
- 0:28and the sound going in and out throughout this episode, so I
- 0:32apologize. This week of Mini Scroll is
- 0:35sponsored by Qatar Airways Student Club loyalty program.
- 0:39As you all know, last week one of my founder dreams came to

- 1:41reality. Hi everyone, welcome to Mini
- 1:44Scroll, the daily Internet culture podcast bringing you the
- 1:48biggest stories from social media, the creator economy and
- 1:51the digital space every Monday through Thursday.
- 1:54I'm your host, Lauren Meissner, the founder of the youth digital
- 1:58media brand Centennial World. Welcome back to Mini Scroll,
- 2:02everyone. I'm trying a new mic placement
- 2:05today so that I can hopefully avoid mouth sounds.
- 2:09So if it sounds a little different, I worry that it's
- 2:13going to sound a bit like farther away, like more tinny,
- 2:16but hopefully it will help with the mouse sounds.
- 2:19All right, the first story that I have for you guys is I'm going
- 2:22to breakdown the drama going on between Tana Mojo, Joey
- 2:26Graceffa, Rosanna Pansino, and Trisha Paytas.
- 2:29There has been a big feud going on right now between these
- 2:32Youtubers and it seems to have resulted in the ending of
- 2:36Rosanna Pansino's friendship with Tana and Trisha.
- 2:40This feud started when Tana went on her podcast, Cancelled
- 2:43recently and spoke about two things.
- 2:45First, she talked about a negative experience that she had
- 2:47on the set of a movie. Now she didn't say the name of
- 2:51the production, but it was pretty clear that she was
- 2:53talking about Escape the Night. Escape the Night is created by
- 2:56Joey Graceffa and he crowdfunded to be able to produce another
- 3:01version of this without YouTube Red.
- 3:03Little side quest with one of these horror actors, OK.
- 3:06And so I get dragged into a freezer, OK.
- 3:10And then they're like, OK, your next scene is that you're going
- 3:13to be chained to the ceiling. I'm just in this freezer,
- 3:18chained to the ceiling with a man in a horror mask, right?
- 3:23And he starts talking to me. And this man looks at me.
- 3:25I swear to fuck through the mask.
- 3:27I don't know what he looks like. And he looks at me and he says,
- 3:29this is my dream, having you chained up.
- 3:32Second, Tanner, Brooke and Paige also spoke about a YouTube that
- 3:36they know who smoked her father's ashes.
- 3:39Again, they didn't name names, but it was clear that this was
- 3:42about Rosanna Pansino because has been open about the fact
- 3:46that her father's wish when he passed away was for her to do
- 3:50this. So then Tana went on Just Trish
- 3:52and opened up more about her experience on Escape the Night.
- 3:56They also talked more about Rosanna smoking her dad's ashes
- 3:59and they laughed about it, with Trish saying that she knows that
- 4:03it's true because Rosanna texted her before she did it.
- 4:06He went on just Trish and he talked about what Tana said,
- 4:10what like Tana's story of Escape the Night.
- 4:13And when he addressed these claims, he kind of just
- 4:16diminished them really. And this upset Tana.
- 4:19So she talked about it again on the cancelled podcast.
- 4:22Now this ended up leading Joey to apologize.
- 4:26I guess when Trish's episode came out with Tana, this is when
- 4:29Moore came to light. He apologized to Tana and Oscar
- 4:33from just Trish. Read a statement from Joey on
- 4:35the podcast. See why she can't handle things
- 4:37offline. I apologize to her for how I
- 4:39talked about it on the pod though and I was just being
- 4:41playful. I think Tana has been hurt by a
- 4:43lot of people and put me in the same boat of people who have
- 4:46wronged her with people with bad intentions.
- 4:48But I genuinely feel bad and was shocked by her reaction and I
- 4:51instantly texted her and we also handled it on set too.
- 4:54This probably all would have fizzled out but then this week
- 4:58Rosanna released a podcast episode with her partner where
- 5:01they talked about Tana's claims and also addressed Trisha and
- 5:05Tana laughing about smoking her father's ashes.
- 5:09In this episode, Rosanna and her partner definitely belittled
- 5:13Tana's experience and questioned if they can believe her when
- 5:17they claim that she lies about a lot of little things for shock
- 5:20value or at least over exaggerate things for shock
- 5:23value. So they were like, it's hard to
- 5:25believe you about the bigger things when you constantly
- 5:28exaggerate about the smaller things.
- 5:30In two different video, she said it's mainstream when she's
- 5:34expressing gratitude for the project and then when she's
- 5:37shitting on it she calls it niche and little like she's
- 5:40bigger. And.
- 5:41Like better than it and an old friend hits her up to be in it
- 5:46and she kind of is giving off the impression how she's
- 5:49speaking about it, the tone, the manner is that like she's doing
- 5:52the project out of charity sympathy.
- 5:55She did the least amount of work on this project.
- 5:58She had the shortest time on set and she complained the most.
- 6:02Yeah, she was in a bad mood all day.
- 6:05So just based on what I saw in person with my own eyes, it
- 6:09already proves in my opinion that she is either exaggerating
- 6:13or just lying. No one was locked in there.
- 6:14That is a flat out lie. And then you're making people
- 6:17think that your safety was at risk, that you were locked in
- 6:19there when you weren't. These ladies have done a lot of
- 6:21things that I wouldn't do and I have never judged them.
- 6:24Now, Tricia has responded to Rosanna's podcast episode, and
- 6:28it sounds like she and Moses have decided to cut ties with
- 6:31Rosanna. Or at least they feel like
- 6:33there's no coming back from this.
- 6:35I'm sorry, the whole thing, honestly, like when Joey came
- 6:38on, I really thought it was just a fun little thing.
- 6:41I didn't know about Tana's experience.
- 6:42Tana, come on. And it came, it came very heavy.
- 6:45We actually caught a lot from that episode.
- 6:46Her experience was a lot and I felt really sad for her.
- 6:50And then now that her stuff has just become drama I.
- 6:53Guess this is one of the consequences.
- 6:57We could be seeing one of the consequences of a group of
- 7:00friends. I don't know if they were like
- 7:02in a group of friends, but you know, friends all having similar
- 7:06ish podcasts where they talk about like Internet drama and
- 7:10creators and what's happening online.
- 7:13And they're all in that world themselves.
- 7:15So of course they're going to talk about not only their own
- 7:19experiences, but sometimes each other's experiences because
- 7:22sometimes they will be the topic of those conversations and those
- 7:25stories. And I think that this is
- 7:28probably part of the consequence of that.
- 7:30I think the way people have belittled Tana's experience is
- 7:34just not OK. I understand she might be a
- 7:37nightmare to work with. I think that's probably
- 7:39something that people know by now.
- 7:42Like we know this as the audience.
- 7:44I assume people in the industry know that by now.
- 7:46Maybe not a nightmare, but like, you know, she doesn't have the
- 7:49most pristine reputation when it comes to her working experience
- 7:54and like how she kind of conducts herself.
- 7:56But I don't think that diminishes or takes away from
- 7:59the experience that she is sharing.
- 8:01And I think hearing the way that Rosanna, but particularly
- 8:04clearly her partner talked about Tana was very icky.
- 8:07Like I did not like this grown man talking about Tana that way.
- 8:11All right, the next story that I have for you guys.
- 8:13This is a happy story. Gabby Windy and Robbie Hoffman
- 8:17are married, so I don't think I've ever covered Gabby and
- 8:21Robbie on this podcast, but they are literally one of my favorite
- 8:24couples to follow lately. Gabby Windy got her start on The
- 8:28Bachelor franchises, but she has since made quite a name for
- 8:32herself in the podcasting and talk space.
- 8:34Because the public persona that she gives us is so weird and
- 8:40funny. She was also in Traitors this
- 8:42season and that exposed her to like a whole new audience.
- 8:46And now her public profile is literally taking off.
- 8:49Like she is the next big thing in podcasting and influencing.
- 8:54She's just like so unique and kooky and funny and for the
- 8:58girls, I love her. So after her Bachelor fame,
- 9:02Gabby came out as queer when she started dating writer and
- 9:05comedian Robbie Hoffman in 2023. And they revealed today in an
- 9:10interview with Cosmo and also on their Instagram that in January,
- 9:14they got married. And this all came about because
- 9:17they had to evacuate LA during the fires and they ended up
- 9:21evacuating to Las Vegas. They got upgraded to this like
- 9:25beautiful penthouse. And Gabby was like, this is kind
- 9:27of giving marriage vibes. Like should we get married?
- 9:30And Robbie was like, I've been proposing to Gabby literally
- 9:33every today, all the time since we started dating, but it was
- 9:38the first time that she was like, maybe we should do this.
- 9:40And then because Robbie was planning on like seriously
- 9:43proposing to Gabby six months later, she had some things in
- 9:46place for it. So she officially proposed to
- 9:49Gabby with I think it was Wordle or like the New York Times
- 9:53crossword. And then they got married in
- 9:55Vegas. And it's just like so cute.
- 9:58I mean, the pictures adorable. They walk down the aisle too hot
- 10:02to go just like such a. I love a spontaneous moment like
- 10:06that. Speaking of popular podcasters,
- 10:09my next story is a less wholesome story.
- 10:12Hannah Berner is facing backlash for the Vanity Fair Oscar Party
- 10:17red carpet interviews that she did with Paige Dsorbo.
- 10:21So Hannah Berner is a comedian and the Co host of the Giggly
- 10:24Squad podcast and she is facing pretty intense backlash for her
- 10:28red carpet interviews at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party.
- 10:31For context, Giggly Squad is a pop culture slash just like
- 10:35chatty best friend podcast Co hosted by Hannah Berner and
- 10:39Paige Desorbo. Hannah and Paige got their start
- 10:41on Bravo summer house, which is why I haven't really talked
- 10:44about them. I do try and steer away from
- 10:46like reality TV. I mean, I'm like obsessed with
- 10:49Bravo, as you guys know, and reality TV is like ironic
- 10:52because I've literally published like full interviews with Bravo
- 10:55stars on this podcast before. But I know that it's not really
- 10:58like the crux of what you guys care about, but I care about it
- 11:01deeply. But I also don't necessarily
- 11:03want to like ruin it for myself, which is partly why I like to
- 11:06keep it off of the podcast as well.
- 11:09But this is just all of these worlds combining for me.
- 11:12So Paige and Hannah, like I said, got their start on Bravo's
- 11:16Summer House. Hannah was eventually not asked
- 11:19back to the show after she had a really bad season, and she
- 11:23fought a lot with the show's kind of principal guy at the
- 11:26time, Kyle Cook. Paige has remained on Summer
- 11:28House. So Paige and Hannah's podcast,
- 11:30Giggly Squad has literally skyrocketed in the past,
- 11:35probably like 18 months. And Hannah even landed her own
- 11:38Netflix comedy special last year, partly because because of
- 11:41this new era of her career. So she started posting on TikTok
- 11:44a lot like her comedy stuff after she got fired from Bravo.
- 11:48And that really took off. And then Giggly Squad really
- 11:50took off. And, you know, now she has this
- 11:51Netflix special. And like, they are just in their
- 11:53like, true celebrity era. Like they are really moving
- 11:57beyond the Bravo universe, which is honestly hard.
- 12:00We haven't seen a lot of Bravo celebs be able to do that well.
- 12:03So of course, part of this is they got this opportunity to
- 12:06host red carpet interviews for the Vanity Fair Oscars party and
- 12:09that opportunity didn't go well. So I do want to preface by
- 12:14saying I am obviously, like I said, a huge Bravo fan, but I'm
- 12:17actually not a giggler. I've never listened to Giggly
- 12:19Squad, but I would say I have loved watching them from afar.
- 12:23Kind of like succeed in this new era of their careers.
- 12:27Especially Hannah getting this like second wind.
- 12:30However, I fear this may be crumbling.
- 12:32So there are three moments where Hannah was micro or honestly
- 12:37arguably macro aggressive to celebrities on the red carpet.
- 12:42First, Hannah told Megan Thee Stallion that her music makes
- 12:46her want to fight. This is the biggest one that's
- 12:48been going around. When Megan tried to steer the
- 12:50conversation in a different direction, Hannah kept going and
- 12:54talking over Megan. To be honest, she talked over
- 12:57everyone and apparently this is a problem on Giggly Squad.
- 13:00Apparently she does this a lot on Giggly Squad.
- 13:02We're going to cry. Don't cry.
- 13:04We're lying, No? You're laughter.
- 13:06No, I know. No.
- 13:07Your music has literally. Like maybe like.
- 13:10When I want to fight someone, I usually.
- 13:13Do you want to throw that fighting shit out the window and
- 13:15you want to get killed and be a bad man when people are talking?
- 13:17Shit, I go. Turn on megas.
- 13:19I look beautiful. I look so great.
- 13:22Wait, no. You look so good when you're.
- 13:23But I know because I watch your documentary.
- 13:25You've been through so many dark things.
- 13:28So a couple things here. Obviously, Megan is a black
- 13:31woman, so why does her music, in your mind make you think that
- 13:38you want to fight? Like, why is that the
- 13:40association that you have? Because that is not what Megan's
- 13:44music is about. Her music is about
- 13:46self-confidence. It's about her mental health.
- 13:48It's about empowerment. Second, Megan is also the victim
- 13:53of a violent assault, so that comment is even more
- 13:55inappropriate now. The next two moments I didn't
- 13:58catch myself. But according to people all over
- 14:01the Internet, she, like Hannah, also asked Coco Jones if she can
- 14:05dunk a basketball. Coco is a black woman and a
- 14:09singer-songwriter, actress, nothing to do with basketball.
- 14:13And she asked Bowen Yang and Matt Roger, who are both gay
- 14:16men, if they have hooked up. The interviews are honestly
- 14:19really hard to watch. And they show such a lack of
- 14:22preparation and they also show such a lack of understanding of
- 14:26other people's experiences. I don't want to speak over like
- 14:30any women of color in this conversation or insert my
- 14:33opinion where it's not wanted. But I do want to touch on the
- 14:37gigglers defending Hannah. So a lot of the gigglers
- 14:40defending Hannah are saying she obviously didn't mean these
- 14:43comments and prejudice or like in a derogatory way.
- 14:46And she was clearly nervous and we need to let people mess up
- 14:50and that kind of stuff, right? All the same, like rhetoric that
- 14:52we always hear. And people will mess up,
- 14:55absolutely. But when it's at the expense of
- 14:58others, then it's also OK for those people who have been hurt
- 15:03to express that and to call it out.
- 15:05And when it comes to the argument that Hannah didn't mean
- 15:08her comments like that, I think that's what makes this
- 15:12conversation even more valuable because that is a huge part of
- 15:16the problem when it comes to microaggressions.
- 15:19A lot of people might not realize that they are making
- 15:22microaggressions because certain stereotypes or beliefs or tropes
- 15:26are just so subconsciously ingrained in us from society.
- 15:31And it takes work. And it takes putting your ego
- 15:34aside to remove that and to question like, why did I say
- 15:37that or why am I thinking like that?
- 15:40Or why am I making that association?
- 15:41And when you're at a place where you're getting an opportunity
- 15:44like this, the level of professionalism and the level of
- 15:49self reflection and understanding and work that I
- 15:52think you need to do, like it just needs to be better.
- 15:55That's not to say that we're not always working on ourselves.
- 15:58That's not to say that it's ever going to be done.
- 16:01And that's not to say that people can't mess up, but this
- 16:04many huge mess ups all at once. There is a problem here.
- 16:10And of course there's also now a conversation like podcast hosts
- 16:13and influencers shouldn't be doing red carpet stuff.
- 16:17I kind of I agree with that and I don't agree with that.
- 16:20I agree with that on one hand, I mean for case in point, but I
- 16:24also think like Teffy, I think Drew like Drew Foil, like I
- 16:27think they are great examples of women that have parlayed that
- 16:32type of career into something bigger.
- 16:34And I think they're red carpet interviews and stuff are
- 16:36amazing. I think we do have some good
- 16:38examples of that, but I think we're a lot of these hosts go
- 16:41wrong or influencers go wrong is like it's not about you.
- 16:45You know, like I think a lot of people go into this industry
- 16:49because they want to be famous themselves.
- 16:51And unfortunately, if you are being asked to interview people
- 16:54on a red carpet, that's about them, that's about the
- 16:57celebrity. You're not the one being
- 16:58interviewed. You know, this is you giving
- 17:02them a platform, you are facilitating an opportunity for
- 17:05them. You're not trying to have your
- 17:07own moment. And that I think is where Hannah
- 17:11went wrong. I kind of think it Paige went
- 17:14wrong there too. I think she was definitely like
- 17:16more graceful, more professional than Hannah, but I think as a
- 17:19duo, this is where they went wrong.
- 17:21It's not your opportunity to show the audience how quirky and
- 17:24funny you are. Like I said, I've never listened
- 17:26to Giggly Squad. I've seen a lot of people be
- 17:27like, I'm not shocked, but I was shocked because it was just so
- 17:31blatant. I think Hannah is definitely
- 17:35going to need to make some type of statement.
- 17:37I hope this does help her reflect on her biases.
- 17:42I fear it might not. There are also a lot of people
- 17:46who are talking about different instances on giggly squad now
- 17:50that I guess I don't know if they've been removed or if it's
- 17:52just been a long time ago where the girls have said things that
- 17:56were along similar lines or just things that they should have
- 17:59probably addressed or apologize and haven't.
- 18:01But I don't think that Hannah and Paige, unless they do some
- 18:05damage control, are going to be asked back for an opportunity
- 18:08like this soon. All right, guys, Well, that's it
- 18:10for mini scroll today. Thank you so for listening.
