- 0:00What's going on, men? Welcome back to the Sacred Men
- 0:02YouTube channel. This is Pastor Justin Dean, and
- 0:06I've got a pretty simple concept to push your way this week.
- 0:11It's something that I mentioned in my sermon at Sacred City
- 0:14Church this past Sunday, and it's this idea that there's only
- 0:20three types of people in the world.
- 0:23There's builders, there's consumers and there's destroyers
- 0:28and I want to build that out just a little bit and then show
- 0:31us how we can move into becoming the type of men, build things
- 0:36who create good things for the good of our people, for the good
- 0:39of our self, and also for the good of our community and the
- 0:42good of the world. But before I do that, look at
- 0:45some statistics. Last year, this, this channel is
- 0:48less than a year old and we had over 10,000 views last year,
- 0:54which is pretty exciting. I, I can't believe it, over half
- 0:58of the people that watch the channel aren't subscribed.
- 1:01So if you're not subscribed, come on, man, do me a favor and
- 1:04subscribe down below. Give me a like that helps other
- 1:07people find us. You know, the whole algorithm
- 1:09and all of that fun stuff, but really thrilled with what God's
- 1:13done so far and what we're building here at Sacred Men.
- 1:17And this channel exists to build godly virtuous men in a
- 1:22degenerate culture, a culture that only knows how to tear
- 1:25things down. And that kind of leads me to our
- 1:28topic of the day builders, consumers and destroyers.
- 1:33So here's the idea. Builders build, they create
- 1:38things, they add value. They walk into a room and we've
- 1:43already talked about having gravitas of being a person that
- 1:45carries weight and responsibility.
- 1:47They're a virtuous person and they can kind of command a room.
- 1:50They, they, they have a gravity about them that pulls others
- 1:55into their orbit. And if you're a godly man with
- 1:59gravitas, you're pulling others towards God, right, towards
- 2:04Jesus, and you're moving them and all the people around you
- 2:07into a, into the orbit of Christianity, right?
- 2:11And that's what we all want to do.
- 2:13But builders, they know how to add value.
- 2:18If you put them in a business setting, they're going to be
- 2:21there to build things, to build up other people, to build up the
- 2:25organization, to get success, right, to move the mission
- 2:29forward. Builders build.
- 2:31Now, if we think in in the world today, I don't think there's a
- 2:34greater builder in the world today than Elon Musk, right?
- 2:38Seems like he's got the Midas touch.
- 2:39Everything he touches turns to gold.
- 2:42But the reason he's like that is because he has a builder
- 2:46mindset. He's there to build great
- 2:48things, right? He's got this kind of an
- 2:50engineering mindset and a leadership mindset where he's
- 2:53building for a greater purpose. And he's obviously the most
- 2:56wealthy man that's ever lived. Then there's the consumers.
- 3:02Now consumers consume. They live to purchase.
- 3:08They live to consume. They live to veg out on Netflix,
- 3:14they live to veg out on social media.
- 3:16They live. They go to work, not to build.
- 3:20They go to work to get a paycheck.
- 3:22They get that paycheck. And by the time they get that
- 3:25paycheck, most of that paycheck's already spent because
- 3:27they spend all their waking hours thinking about what am I
- 3:30going to buy, right? Whatever it is, clothes,
- 3:33vacations, vehicle, all of these types of things.
- 3:37Now what's interesting when I was in the construction trade, I
- 3:39had a guy who had a very successful business here and he
- 3:43told me because there's a lot of turnover in the construction
- 3:46trade. And he said one of the best
- 3:47things you can do if you want to get a foreman or you want to get
- 3:50one of your guys to stay committed to you is encourage
- 3:54him to buy a brand new truck. And what he was getting at here
- 3:57is a lot of people are consumers and the only thing that will
- 4:02keep them locked into a job is a paycheck, right?
- 4:05Or it or is a is a large car payment because they get that
- 4:10they get that payment or they get that paycheck and
- 4:12immediately it goes to that payment and then that payment
- 4:15keeps them locked in. That fear of that 500 seven
- 4:18$100,000 payment keeps them locked in day-to-day, coming to
- 4:23work and putting in the hours. And he's getting at this idea
- 4:27that our culture is really built off of consumerism, right.
- 4:31Many of us lack an an internal motivation to be builders.
- 4:35And sometimes the only thing that can get us out of bed in
- 4:37the morning is the the fear of missing a payment, the fear of
- 4:41the repo man coming and taking that that truck away from us.
- 4:45And so we have been kind of indoctrinated in the society to
- 4:51be consumers. And so there's a large swath of
- 4:53the population that they only exist to consume things.
- 4:57They go to church just like baby birds, right, with their mouth
- 5:00open just to consume. They have no thought of being
- 5:04there to feed and, and to receive sustenance from the word
- 5:08of God. In order to build myself up, in
- 5:11order to build up my family and other, in order to build up my
- 5:13church, in order to build up society.
- 5:16They're not there as builders. They're there merely as
- 5:19consumers. And so they're takers, right?
- 5:21If they go to a Christian community or a men's group,
- 5:24they're going to sit there and just what's in it for me, right?
- 5:27Do I enjoy this? Are the people that I like here?
- 5:30They're not thinking about building others up.
- 5:33And our our society's filled with these people.
- 5:36And it's kind of one of the the negative traits of the boomers,
- 5:40right? They've worked their life,
- 5:43they've received their income, they've got a good retirement
- 5:47and now they're kind of kind of cashing in their checks.
- 5:49And they're only, they only think about themselves.
- 5:53They only think about the vacations they want to take, how
- 5:56much golf they can play, get by in the RV and travel in the
- 5:59country. They don't think about the next
- 6:01generation. They don't think about pouring
- 6:03into their children, continuing to pour into their children,
- 6:05helping their children build businesses and build lasting
- 6:09legacies to take the family name and that legacy to the next
- 6:13generation. And we don't want to be like
- 6:15that. We don't want to be just
- 6:17consumers. And then lastly, the last group
- 6:19of people are the destroyers. These people ruin everything and
- 6:22they, they, they destroy businesses, they're terrible to
- 6:25work with. They, they do bad work.
- 6:27They destroy churches, they destroy families.
- 6:30Usually they're so selfish and immature that they're just
- 6:34thinking about the, the moment and they're just there to get
- 6:37whatever they can from whoever they can.
- 6:39And they tear things down. Now, when you look at this as a
- 6:41society, honestly, our educational system has been
- 6:45building destroyers for a, a long time.
- 6:48You go off into college and you learn everything you hate about
- 6:52America, everything you hate about our forefathers and the
- 6:55founders of our country. And, and they're taught just to
- 6:59tear things down. They're taught to tear down
- 7:00statues. They're taught to riot in the
- 7:02streets. They're taught to protest
- 7:04everything. And they're, they can't build
- 7:06anything and they can only tear things down.
- 7:09Now that's obviously a recipe for destruction.
- 7:12No society can last with that many destroyers.
- 7:17And So what we want to do as sacred men and we want to be as
- 7:19Christian men is we want to be builders, men that build things
- 7:24that last a lifetime and that last on into the generations.
- 7:28So I'm 46 right now and I have an 18 year old son who's about
- 7:31to be 19. And I'm spending a lot of time
- 7:34thinking about helping him build a business, helping him find the
- 7:39niche that he can succeed in and multiply not only, you know, his
- 7:45wealth, but a generational wealth, right?
- 7:47That can go on into the future. And one of the things I was
- 7:52thinking about, I'm reading a couple books right now on AI and
- 7:57it's pretty concerning, right the of the future of our economy
- 8:00as it becomes a kind of an AI economy.
- 8:04And one of the guys I'm reading basically said all of the middle
- 8:08managers, all of the paper pushers, all of the guys that
- 8:13basically are consumers, they just go to work to consume, AI
- 8:17is going to replace them. Now, AI is not going to replace
- 8:21the Craftsman, the tradesman. And so I think we need to be
- 8:24encouraging young men to go into the trades, but you go into the
- 8:28trades not to be a consumer. You go into the trades to be a
- 8:30builder, to build something that lasts, to provide value for
- 8:33other people, build a great home, whatever it is, whatever,
- 8:36whatever trade you want to go into and and then build a
- 8:40lasting legacy that potentially you could pass on to your
- 8:43children. But this book is is basically
- 8:47saying that all of those middle manager, paper pusher type of
- 8:52jobs are going to be replaced by AI.
- 8:54But the men who become, well in his term, butt kickers, right,
- 8:59that wasn't quite his term. That's his edited term, butt
- 9:01kickers. Men.
- 9:02And in my words, men that are builders, men that know how to
- 9:05develop other people. They know how to develop
- 9:07themself. They add value to whatever room
- 9:10they're in. They're not there to take.
- 9:12They're there to build and to give.
- 9:14Those people are going to get filthy rich, is what he says in
- 9:18this AI economy, because they're going to get a bunch of butt
- 9:21kickers around them, guys that want to get things done and
- 9:24build. They're going to use AI and
- 9:26technology to the best of their ability to do all the stuff
- 9:29that, you know, a consumeristic type of worker would typically
- 9:33do. And AI is going to be much
- 9:34cheaper than hiring those people.
- 9:36And they're going to implement processes that can keep this
- 9:39system going. And those guys are going to make
- 9:42a lot of money and they're going to be really successful.
- 9:44And so as Christian entrepreneurs and as Christian
- 9:47men, I think we need to be thinking in these lines.
- 9:50We want to be builders and we don't we want to avoid
- 9:55destroyers right now there's we don't choose who's in our
- 9:58family. We don't choose who our
- 9:59neighbors are. But you know, it's been said
- 10:02that you will become basically just like the the five men that
- 10:08you spend most of your time with, right?
- 10:09The five people you spend most of your time with, that's who
- 10:11you're going to become. So we want to surround ourselves
- 10:14in a tight circle with men who are builders, right?
- 10:17That's the kind of men we want to become.
- 10:19And so we want to do our best to surround ourselves with men like
- 10:21that. And that's what we're trying to
- 10:22do at Sacred Men. That's what we're trying to do
- 10:25at Sacred City Church. We want to surround ourselves
- 10:27with builders and we want to move guys that are consumers.
- 10:31We want to move them from being consumeristic into this builder
- 10:36mindset. And that's what I want to leave
- 10:38you with today. I'm trying to keep this video a
- 10:40little bit shorter. Is the power of a mindset,
- 10:44right? We've talked before at Sacred
- 10:47City about our identity, like who are we?
- 10:50Who do we think we are, right? And it's important that we have
- 10:53a mindset. No matter if I've been
- 10:56consumeristic in my past, no matter if I've been a destroyer
- 10:59in my past, that when we meet Christ and Christ changes our
- 11:02identity, gives us this new identity that we're now a new
- 11:05creation in Christ and that now we have to put on the mind of
- 11:08Christ. It's important that that our
- 11:10mindset changes. That we start looking at
- 11:12ourselves as a builder, right as a disciple of Jesus who's out
- 11:17here to make more disciples and renew the world for the glory of
- 11:21God. That we're here to build things
- 11:23that last for the Kingdom of God.
- 11:25And this mindset can really change the way you see
- 11:28everything. It's it's like these glasses, if
- 11:31these glasses were tinted a certain color, everything I
- 11:33would see would be tinted with that color.
- 11:36Well, having a builder mindset is like that.
- 11:39Every room you go into when you get home from work, you, you're
- 11:43seeing your home through the mindset of a builder.
- 11:46I'm here to add value. I'm here to love my wife, to
- 11:50lead my wife to love my children and disciple my children.
- 11:53When I sit down at the dinner table, I'm not just there just
- 11:56to gobble it all up as fast as I possibly can, but I'm there to
- 11:59disciple my kids. And so we're going to pray and
- 12:00we're going to sing a hymn and maybe we're going to read
- 12:02something out of the Bible or a devotional book.
- 12:04And I'm there to add value to my family because I'm wanting this
- 12:09builder mindset to not just stay with me.
- 12:11I'm wanting it to be passed down to my children, right?
- 12:14And so I don't want to just raise consumeristic kids.
- 12:17So we I want to teach my children that you're are all a
- 12:21part of this family and we need your labor like we need your
- 12:25effort, we need your devotion. We need so all my kids, they
- 12:28have a chore. My 4 year old unloads the
- 12:31silverware every night. And to be honest, she's one of
- 12:33the best at it. Immediately we get done with
- 12:35dinner, she runs to the the dishwasher, pulls out the
- 12:38silverware, puts them on the counter and starts putting them
- 12:40away without even being asked. And what I'm trying to do is
- 12:43create a builder mentality into my kids.
- 12:47You're not just consumers, right?
- 12:48You're not just here to receive from mom and dad and and then
- 12:51take it all for granted. You're a vital member of this
- 12:56family and we're all going to provide value to this family.
- 13:00And that's how families succeed. So as the at the beginning of
- 13:05this year, man, 2026, I'm praying that you would embrace
- 13:09this builder mindset. Every room you would step into
- 13:13at work, you're there to add value.
- 13:15You're not there to take a paycheck and just push some
- 13:17buttons or type some emails. You're there to add value.
- 13:20How can you add value to the people around you?
- 13:23How can you add value to your boss above you?
- 13:26How can you, how can you people that are below you, how can you
- 13:28add value there and, and pull them up?
- 13:31People that know how to add value to an organization, they
- 13:34move up, they succeed, right? If you're in a, what you
- 13:38consider a brainless job, you're, you're a, you're a
- 13:40manual laborer. You need to go into that job
- 13:42thinking, how can I add value? I remember 1 situation on a job
- 13:47site that I was on and I was just the, I was just the cut
- 13:49man. I was probably 19, maybe 20
- 13:51years old. I was just the cut man, but I
- 13:54was there to learn how to be a builder, right?
- 13:57That's how I saw my job. I wasn't there just a cut boards
- 14:00and, and carry lumber. I was there to learn how to do
- 14:04the job of the foreman. I wanted his job, right.
- 14:07And I remember one day they all went off for lunch and I was
- 14:11broke. And so I had my peanut butter
- 14:12and Jelly sandwich in my lunch box.
- 14:14I sat down, I ate it. I ate that thing in probably 7-8
- 14:17minutes. And I knew my, my job.
- 14:19I knew what I needed to do. So I ate in 7-8 minutes.
- 14:22I got up and I went back to work.
- 14:24And when I when I was out there cutting and working and they all
- 14:27pulled up, I heard the foreman say, somebody wants a raise.
- 14:31And I was sitting in there thinking, heck yes, I do.
- 14:34Actually, I want your job. And I'm going to outwork
- 14:36everybody on this job site and one day I'm going to have your
- 14:38job. And a year later I did have his
- 14:42job. And it was, and that's just
- 14:44because I was there not to collect a paycheck.
- 14:47I had the mindset of a builder. I want to move up.
- 14:50I want to add value. I want to build something great.
- 14:54And I want to be that type of man.
- 14:57And so I think it would be, I think it would be good for all
- 14:59of us to to, to begin to see ourselves that way.
- 15:02I'm a builder. I'm here to learn a trade.
- 15:05I'm here to learn how to be a leader.
- 15:07I'm here to learn how to be a better man.
- 15:10I'm not just here to take a paycheck and then sit on the
- 15:13couch and consume like a lemming like everybody else.
- 15:17So many people in our society, right?
- 15:19If you learn how to be a builder, you're going to be
- 15:21successful in this new economy. You're going to be successful in
- 15:25the future, right? AI will never replace builders.
- 15:29So that's the thought I wanted to do.
- 15:31Start our year off with this this year guys, and if you've
- 15:35got any thoughts, put them in the comments below.
- 15:37I'm going to kind of build out this theme over the rest of the
- 15:40year, this idea of builders, consumers, and destroyers,
- 15:44right? So thank you guys for a great
- 15:47year in 2025. I look forward to what God's
- 15:49going to do in US and through US in 2026.
- 15:52I will talk to you soon, soon. God bless.
