- 0:03Speaker 1: It's a hot take. Logan Rys a bad person, She's
- 0:07Speaker 1: she any not mate, not my mate. Yo yo yo,
- 0:15Speaker 1: what is your child? High mother? I am yo. I'm
- 0:22Speaker 1: going down the store like Welcome to Like a Virgin,
- 0:36Speaker 1: the show where we give yesterday's pop culture today's takes.
- 0:40Speaker 1: I'm Rose, damn you, and I'm fran Toronto. Franny, you
- 0:46Speaker 1: are incredibly tan. Yeah, I am a gorgeous golden sheen slash,
- 0:52Speaker 1: a sun poisoned reddish brown. Um. And you look you
- 0:58Speaker 1: look like you And a week on a boat which
- 1:03Speaker 1: you in fact did that I in fact did. It
- 1:06Speaker 1: was truly an incredible experience. Nothing that happened on the
- 1:10Speaker 1: boat really could have been predicted. And yet here I
- 1:13Speaker 1: am and I am now at devout cruise attendee. Um.
- 1:19Speaker 1: I would take a cruise literally anytime, if it's free.
- 1:22Speaker 1: If it's free, important important disclaimer. And I think that
- 1:27Speaker 1: you need I think that you need to lead with
- 1:30Speaker 1: your your on your cruise recap. I think you need
- 1:32Speaker 1: to lead with the news that the main event the
- 1:36Speaker 1: diva doll herself as it well, the main event is
- 1:40Speaker 1: that on day one I don't even know if he
- 1:42Speaker 1: knows this. On day one of the cruise. Um we
- 1:46Speaker 1: you know, had departed from Miami on our way to
- 1:48Speaker 1: under Us and um late in the night, there's you know,
- 1:52Speaker 1: the dude, dude, and then a little this is your bam,
- 1:58Speaker 1: we are returning back to the shore a medical emergency.
- 2:01Speaker 1: We will be updating you blah blah. And so we're like, oh,
- 2:03Speaker 1: that's kind of weird, Like the trip is like stopped, sure,
- 2:07Speaker 1: like right at the beginning. What's going on the next morning,
- 2:10Speaker 1: eight o'clock in the morning, do do do? And like
- 2:14Speaker 1: the Captain's like, hello, passengers, we are so sorry to
- 2:19Speaker 1: let you know that last night a passenger was leaning
- 2:23Speaker 1: over the balcony on the seventeenth floor and fell to
- 2:26Speaker 1: the seventh floor of the ship and died. And everyone
- 2:31Speaker 1: on the cruise got a free cruise. That's crazy. Wait,
- 2:38Speaker 1: like like they refunded you or they gave you a
- 2:41Speaker 1: voucher for another cruise. It's unclear to me. I'm pretty
- 2:44Speaker 1: sure it's a it's a voucher that you didn't You
- 2:46Speaker 1: didn't immediately go and be like, Hi, Diva, can I
- 2:49Speaker 1: call you? Can you tell me exactly? Well, this whole
- 2:54Speaker 1: depth thing is about because we didn't really pay, like
- 2:57Speaker 1: we didn't really pay, Like we paid like a kind
- 3:00Speaker 1: of like a service charge whatever, but we didn't really
- 3:02Speaker 1: pay for the cruise, so we weren't really sure if
- 3:04Speaker 1: ours were refunded. We were mostly just like, oh, my
- 3:06Speaker 1: fucking god, this is crazy. And our friend who works
- 3:09Speaker 1: for the cruise line, who was on the ship, We're
- 3:10Speaker 1: like worried about him. And so it was like a
- 3:14Speaker 1: lot of investigating, like us being a nice, like human,
- 3:17Speaker 1: empathetic person. I skipped to that part well, like, honey,
- 3:21Speaker 1: don't get it twisted, like we were immediately cracking jokes,
- 3:23Speaker 1: and like the energy on the boat that morning was
- 3:26Speaker 1: so dark, and I did where I was like, oh
- 3:27Speaker 1: thank god, I packed at least like one outfit that
- 3:29Speaker 1: was all black you more, yes, with my dark sunglasses.
- 3:35Speaker 1: But like Laurel and I were like trying so hard
- 3:38Speaker 1: to not make like, you know, woman overboard jokes, um,
- 3:43Speaker 1: you know, like and and we we overboard starring Goldie Hanks. Yes,
- 3:47Speaker 1: and we tried. I think we did a pretty good
- 3:49Speaker 1: job of like being sensitible also acknowledging that that is
- 3:51Speaker 1: like kind of genuinely whack a doodle, And like I
- 3:54Speaker 1: hope that the families of those people are okay, But
- 3:56Speaker 1: also we were all gossiping. Wait and didn't wait and
- 3:59Speaker 1: didn't she fell onto someone fell onto another passenger who
- 4:04Speaker 1: survived and was fine. Can you imagine being the person
- 4:08Speaker 1: who someone fell on top of and died? No, it really,
- 4:14Speaker 1: I don't mean that's how we were feeling. That's how
- 4:18Speaker 1: we were feeling too. We were like we were trying
- 4:20Speaker 1: so hard not to laugh because but like laughing is
- 4:22Speaker 1: just like a natural nervousness around this like really precarious thing,
- 4:26Speaker 1: because like cruises are just like willfully and knowingly like
- 4:29Speaker 1: tacky and like funny and white loadusy, Like it felt
- 4:33Speaker 1: like white lotus. I was like, this is some triangle
- 4:35Speaker 1: of sadness ass like plot development. And we were the
- 4:39Speaker 1: whole the rest of the week, we were just gossiping
- 4:41Speaker 1: with other passengers. So like something that I really love
- 4:44Speaker 1: about cruises is it is it does have kind of
- 4:46Speaker 1: a summer can't feel. And this was an adult's only cruise,
- 4:50Speaker 1: so no children and everyone can kind of just like
- 4:53Speaker 1: be you know, like adults. And so we were just
- 4:56Speaker 1: like gossiping about what was happening and talking to each
- 4:59Speaker 1: other and making friends ends and like um, yeah, and
- 5:02Speaker 1: I texted you this over the weekend and you still
- 5:05Speaker 1: don't believe me. But I do think that for the
- 5:08Speaker 1: most part, a cruise like this is so up your
- 5:12Speaker 1: alley in terms of style of vacation, Babes, No, no,
- 5:15Speaker 1: but he can you Can you hear me out? Can
- 5:17Speaker 1: you hear me out? Even if it's I've heard you out?
- 5:20Speaker 1: I get, I get the argument, But yeah, for the
- 5:22Speaker 1: for the sake of Virgin, I'm saying yes, and I
- 5:25Speaker 1: would like to. I like to hear your argue. Even
- 5:27Speaker 1: if this is not true, I do feel like the
- 5:30Speaker 1: thing about Virgin, Babe. The thing about a cruise like
- 5:32Speaker 1: this is one all the amenities are brand new that
- 5:35Speaker 1: like the food, tastefully done like great restaurants, like great ambiance,
- 5:39Speaker 1: good programming, like everything everything about it was like so
- 5:44Speaker 1: gorge and nice in comparison to like what you think
- 5:47Speaker 1: a cruise might be, which is like carnival cruises where
- 5:49Speaker 1: it's like packed and disgusting. This is a really, really
- 5:52Speaker 1: like low key cruise with not that many people on it.
- 5:54Speaker 1: But most importantly, with a cruise, you don't have to
- 5:57Speaker 1: make any decisions, like you can eat at any time, anytime,
- 6:02Speaker 1: anytime you want whenever you want, wherever you want, you
- 6:05Speaker 1: can shake your iPhone and someone will bring you champagne
- 6:08Speaker 1: anywhere you are on the boat. Anywhere you are on
- 6:11Speaker 1: the boat, they will bring you a bottle of My Way,
- 6:13Speaker 1: And I don't drink this. My point is the ease,
- 6:17Speaker 1: babe there. You don't have to decide where you're going
- 6:20Speaker 1: to on the boat because they just drop you off
- 6:23Speaker 1: and pick you up. They drop you off at a
- 6:24Speaker 1: resort place, so like you're not making decisions on where
- 6:27Speaker 1: you're gonna go. You like, everything on the boat is free.
- 6:32Speaker 1: You get to do whatever you want, and like most importantly,
- 6:35Speaker 1: like your time is just completely your own and you
- 6:38Speaker 1: never have to like experience decision fatigue. And I was like,
- 6:41Speaker 1: that is something even though the crowds is something you
- 6:43Speaker 1: cannot live with. I was like, Rose wants a vacation
- 6:46Speaker 1: where she makes no decisions, and that I think when
- 6:49Speaker 1: appeals to that's that's actually that's actually not true, because
- 6:54Speaker 1: I mean the thing is, while you and I have
- 6:56Speaker 1: had some great vacations where we have gone and you know,
- 7:00Speaker 1: like rented a house somewhere, we have never traveled together.
- 7:05Speaker 1: And when I'm actually traveling and exploring places I like
- 7:09Speaker 1: making decisions. I like just going out in a new
- 7:12Speaker 1: city and walking and like seeing where the day takes me.
- 7:14Speaker 1: So it's not really that part of the cruise that
- 7:17Speaker 1: I'm like, not like latching onto or that's that's not
- 7:21Speaker 1: the part of the cruise that I think would work
- 7:23Speaker 1: for me or not work for me. The thing about
- 7:26Speaker 1: the reason why I don't want to go in a
- 7:28Speaker 1: cruise is because I don't ever want to be somewhere
- 7:32Speaker 1: that you can the only way I can leave is
- 7:36Speaker 1: by jumping overboard. Well, it's just me. That's why I
- 7:40Speaker 1: never When I guess when I was a party girl,
- 7:45Speaker 1: I would never. I would never go to a boat
- 7:47Speaker 1: party ever. Yeah, person, I would. I would be row.
- 7:52Speaker 1: I would be old Rose. Well, I would be young
- 7:54Speaker 1: Rose when she tries to jump off titan off the
- 7:57Speaker 1: Titanic and you know, Leonardo DiCaprio stops her, But I
- 8:01Speaker 1: would be like bye by yeah, I just you know,
- 8:05Speaker 1: I've done the cruise thing. As we said, I lost
- 8:08Speaker 1: my Virginia on a cruise I forgot about. It's not
- 8:12Speaker 1: it's not the crowds. It's not like I'm not gonna
- 8:16Speaker 1: it's not like being seasick or anything. It's just I
- 8:18Speaker 1: don't want to be trapped like that. It's not my
- 8:21Speaker 1: preferred way to travel. I know, I understand, but I'm
- 8:25Speaker 1: I'm so happy you had I'm so happy you had
- 8:28Speaker 1: a great time. I did have a great time. Laurel
- 8:30Speaker 1: and I were just did you like, did you do
- 8:32Speaker 1: like a did you do this sort of like, um,
- 8:35Speaker 1: you know, they always have activities for your stops. Did
- 8:38Speaker 1: you like go parasailing or like snarkling or anything. Laurel
- 8:41Speaker 1: made us go snarkling. I didn't really want to because
- 8:44Speaker 1: you know, the deep sea is one of my greatest fears. Um,
- 8:47Speaker 1: as we've talked about on the pod deep super super
- 8:50Speaker 1: duper spooky. Um and uh, but that was that we
- 8:55Speaker 1: did that and it was actually really fun, like you
- 8:57Speaker 1: were It's not like you were in a submarine going
- 8:58Speaker 1: to no No. It was like if you like yeah,
- 9:03Speaker 1: and I was like doing it like basically being in
- 9:05Speaker 1: a pool with fish, doing it in my skims as
- 9:07Speaker 1: well in front of like all these like children and tourists. Um. Yeah,
- 9:11Speaker 1: it was great. Um, I was tucked at sea for sure.
- 9:14Speaker 1: It was lovely. Um And I think that honestly the
- 9:19Speaker 1: best part of the vacation. Was just like dolling up
- 9:21Speaker 1: with Laurel and like picking like one two three outfits
- 9:25Speaker 1: per day, like and just stunting your your like, um,
- 9:28Speaker 1: coverage of your trip was very fun to thank you.
- 9:32Speaker 1: I appreciate it. And I feel like a lot like
- 9:35Speaker 1: that was just like the big pot. That was like
- 9:37Speaker 1: the big fun for us was just kind of like
- 9:38Speaker 1: stomping around and being perceived and like and like being
- 9:41Speaker 1: the stars of the ship and I um and like
- 9:44Speaker 1: because everyone would just stop us and be like, oh
- 9:45Speaker 1: my god, you guys look amazing. You guys are the
- 9:47Speaker 1: most fashionable people in the blah, which is obviously what
- 9:50Speaker 1: we're fishing or yeah, of course, um literally fishing and
- 9:54Speaker 1: I I I think also like you, we both I
- 9:57Speaker 1: mean you. That's another thing that you would appreciate is
- 9:59Speaker 1: like we have you know, we are good with resort
- 10:02Speaker 1: where like we can stunt in some resort, you know,
- 10:05Speaker 1: sledh um. And I was having a lot of fun
- 10:09Speaker 1: with that, um, but I would like to do that
- 10:11Speaker 1: at a resort. Yeah, not not at a not on
- 10:13Speaker 1: a floating resort. I I did also shock horror aghast
- 10:19Speaker 1: um read two books on this cruise. You know how
- 10:22Speaker 1: to read, Yes, reveal your literate I've shook finally read
- 10:29Speaker 1: two books, um, which you know, yeah, long time coming.
- 10:33Speaker 1: I read the Nora Ephron's Book of Essays. I feel
- 10:36Speaker 1: bad about my neck, which was, to be honest, fine,
- 10:42Speaker 1: it was really fine. Like I don't know if you
- 10:45Speaker 1: have you read any of her essay you came for
- 10:47Speaker 1: her neck, um. I I have read um an essay
- 10:52Speaker 1: of hers before, and I've read her fiction a lot
- 10:55Speaker 1: of her A lot of her essays are like magazine writing,
- 10:59Speaker 1: so they're really really short, and a lot of them
- 11:02Speaker 1: are really timely or have really of the moment kind
- 11:05Speaker 1: of references that like aren't funny or or interesting anymore.
- 11:08Speaker 1: So that was like part of it, which is not
- 11:10Speaker 1: the book's fault. But she also obviously is just like
- 11:14Speaker 1: a woman with a with dated takes on. She's a
- 11:17Speaker 1: woman of a certain age in a certain generation who
- 11:21Speaker 1: you know, just spend a lot of a lot of
- 11:23Speaker 1: that books talking about like prop property, moaning property, and
- 11:27Speaker 1: like how she's getting priced out of her like injury
- 11:30Speaker 1: apartment and it's really hard for her. And I was like,
- 11:33Speaker 1: I was like shut, But her voice is incredible, and
- 11:36Speaker 1: like I was just addicted to her voice. The whole
- 11:38Speaker 1: time through and that's what got me through. But I did,
- 11:40Speaker 1: I did skip an essay or two. I'm not gonna lie.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Um Yeah, and then I also read um Cyrus Dunham's
- 11:48Speaker 1: A Year Without a Name, and I talked about that
- 11:51Speaker 1: book on our Patreon because there's a little more in
- 11:53Speaker 1: depth chatter to be had there, so you know, subscribe
- 11:56Speaker 1: to her patron if you want a quick little friends
- 11:59Speaker 1: book corner fab love to Tease Virgins. If you haven't noticed,
- 12:05Speaker 1: we're doing things a little differently this week. We you know,
- 12:09Speaker 1: we know, we've been hitting you with some of our
- 12:11Speaker 1: incredible guest centric episodes, but we haven't had a moment
- 12:17Speaker 1: to really catch up chit chat. So today it's going
- 12:21Speaker 1: to be a full, key, key episode and we're just
- 12:25Speaker 1: gonna talk about what we've been doing, what we've been consuming,
- 12:27Speaker 1: what's going on in our lives. And we did so
- 12:31Speaker 1: much of it that you will yes have to subscribe
- 12:34Speaker 1: to our patreon, become a patron patreon dot com slash
- 12:38Speaker 1: like a Virgin to get the full tea. Okay, wait,
- 12:42Speaker 1: so what did you do last week? I was literally
- 12:44Speaker 1: on a boat end, like in Communicado. A lot of
- 12:46Speaker 1: the week. It was very nice to not have cell
- 12:48Speaker 1: service or grinder. I you know, was on my grind
- 12:54Speaker 1: as I want to be. But I also did have
- 12:57Speaker 1: a pretty social week. I went to a salon hosted
- 13:04Speaker 1: by Hunter Harris UM and um, we talked about jealousy,
- 13:12Speaker 1: which was very interesting. Um Hunter Hunter like partnered with
- 13:17Speaker 1: this brand UM that are it's some kind of like
- 13:21Speaker 1: social platform UM and they are hosting these salons where
- 13:28Speaker 1: they bring women together to talk about a specific topic.
- 13:31Speaker 1: And our topic was jealousy. UM. So we you know,
- 13:36Speaker 1: there were like eight of us and we ate m
- 13:38Speaker 1: charcouterie and talked about it um for two hours, which
- 13:43Speaker 1: is very interesting and stimulating. And then you will be
- 13:46Speaker 1: shocked to hear that. On Friday night, I went to
- 13:48Speaker 1: a party afore Oh wait, yeah, I saw Charlene DJ
- 13:54Speaker 1: Yeah um, friend of friend of mine and of the
- 13:58Speaker 1: pod and former like a virgin guest. Tie Mitchell had
- 14:02Speaker 1: a birthday this weekend. Had had a party Friday night
- 14:06Speaker 1: at our friend Eric's house, and I said I was
- 14:10Speaker 1: gonna I was gonna come early and leave by eleven
- 14:13Speaker 1: and baby, you best believe that at eleven o'clock on
- 14:15Speaker 1: the dot, I looked at Ryan and went TikTok and
- 14:20Speaker 1: we were out five minutes later. Boom. I'm impressive, though,
- 14:25Speaker 1: I'm proud of you for going. I mean, look, I'm
- 14:29Speaker 1: I'm debt. Look if we if we only get you
- 14:31Speaker 1: until eleven rose, I'm happy to take it and I
- 14:35Speaker 1: would love to go and and the parties stood. The
- 14:37Speaker 1: party started at ten. I told I told Eric we
- 14:42Speaker 1: were coming early, and we did show up early because
- 14:45Speaker 1: I like, that's my early before they were done setting
- 14:51Speaker 1: up and was out by a lot the way I would.
- 14:53Speaker 1: I didn't even know, say, like tim I turned thirty
- 14:59Speaker 1: at midnight, I didn't even Yeah I left an eleven
- 15:04Speaker 1: Yeah absolutely, yeah, girl, I mean love your style. We
- 15:09Speaker 1: love this for you, and I would love to attend
- 15:12Speaker 1: a party with you at some point until eleven PM.
- 15:15Speaker 1: I think that would be really fun to do that together. Yeah,
- 15:18Speaker 1: maybe maybe our own party. Oh we haven't talked about
- 15:20Speaker 1: our live show. We should Oh my god, should um
- 15:23Speaker 1: like give the girls a download? So we had a
- 15:27Speaker 1: live show in New York to two weeks a week ago.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Now we raging success. We did record it, so look
- 15:38Speaker 1: out for a potential Patreon episode with the audio from
- 15:42Speaker 1: our live show and every time we bring up Patreon,
- 15:45Speaker 1: I'm going to say, go to patreon dot com. Slash
- 15:48Speaker 1: leg A Virgina become a five dollars a month. Um.
- 15:53Speaker 1: It was super fun. Um. We did not come on
- 15:56Speaker 1: Everybody in Brooklyn, which is such a cute venue. I
- 15:59Speaker 1: actually had been before, although I know the owner and
- 16:02Speaker 1: have worked at some of their other spaces. It was
- 16:07Speaker 1: so convenient. I was able to walk home, which was great,
- 16:11Speaker 1: and the crowd was so fun. We watched the bisexual
- 16:15Speaker 1: episode of Sex in the City our friend Peyton Dix.
- 16:17Speaker 1: I had never seen it before, so we got to
- 16:20Speaker 1: truly induct her into the nightmare cult that is, you know,
- 16:25Speaker 1: Sex in the City, and it was super fun. I'm
- 16:29Speaker 1: really really stoked and like about like how it went
- 16:32Speaker 1: and Slash I just want to do so much more
- 16:34Speaker 1: of these because it's like a really fun format to
- 16:36Speaker 1: play with. And I feel like I feel like we
- 16:40Speaker 1: were just you know, having fun and you know, you
- 16:42Speaker 1: had never been to come On before, but like come
- 16:44Speaker 1: On is like you know my cheers essentially, like I
- 16:47Speaker 1: now go there more than any other gay bar in
- 16:50Speaker 1: the city, and so I felt like I was kind
- 16:52Speaker 1: of like given a show for home, and I really did.
- 16:55Speaker 1: I really, it just felt like an easy, fun living
- 16:58Speaker 1: room vibe for the night. I just like thinking about,
- 17:02Speaker 1: like trying to dream up, like what will we watch next?
- 17:04Speaker 1: Who will you watch something with next? Yeah, Virgins, you
- 17:07Speaker 1: should slide into our DMS and let us know, you know,
- 17:10Speaker 1: if you came to a live show, what, because I
- 17:13Speaker 1: think this is such a good format for what we do,
- 17:17Speaker 1: to be live reacting to something. So yeah, slide into
- 17:21Speaker 1: our DMS and let us know, like do you want us?
- 17:23Speaker 1: Do you want to see us watch Twilight or you know,
- 17:27Speaker 1: like half of Titanic or like an episode of Buffy
- 17:31Speaker 1: or whatever. Also, if you want us to go on
- 17:35Speaker 1: tour and come to your city and do this, um,
- 17:38Speaker 1: let us know if you like go to college and
- 17:42Speaker 1: you know, like have the resources to bring us out. Yeah,
- 17:47Speaker 1: like we we are very We're submissive and bookable, submissive
- 17:52Speaker 1: And there has been some really amazing music released recently
- 18:19Speaker 1: that we haven't really talked about. I have been doing
- 18:23Speaker 1: basically nothing but listening to the New Boy Genius album
- 18:27Speaker 1: The Record since it came out the week before last.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Have you listened yet? I haven't. Actually I listened. I
- 18:34Speaker 1: listened to all the singles and I really do love
- 18:38Speaker 1: Boy Genius. I'll listen to anything Phoebe Bridgers touches and
- 18:43Speaker 1: my kind of just the thing that I was immediately
- 18:45Speaker 1: attracted to with that project when they released their first
- 18:48Speaker 1: album you know a while ago, was just their love
- 18:51Speaker 1: for each other. I think that the friendship and they're
- 18:54Speaker 1: kind of like willingness to collaborate, and the way they
- 18:58Speaker 1: write songs together, I think it's really cool. Um and
- 19:00Speaker 1: I I think that from a kind of music writing standpoint,
- 19:03Speaker 1: it's very inspiring. But what did you What do you
- 19:05Speaker 1: think so far? I love I love the record, the record,
- 19:12Speaker 1: the record, Um, I kind of couldn't you know. I
- 19:15Speaker 1: did listen to the old, the older Boy Genius stuff,
- 19:19Speaker 1: and um, you know, I love Phoebe Bridgers obviously. I
- 19:25Speaker 1: also really love Lucy Dacus. I have no idea who
- 19:29Speaker 1: Julian Baker is outside of the context of Boy Genius, Like,
- 19:33Speaker 1: I've never listened to any of her there. She's kind
- 19:36Speaker 1: of giving, They're kind of giving, they're kind of giving them,
- 19:40Speaker 1: they them a little bit. Um. I've never listened to
- 19:43Speaker 1: any of Julian's solo music, so I don't know how
- 19:49Speaker 1: different this album is. What I like about the album
- 19:52Speaker 1: is that there are songs that clearly feature a certain
- 19:59Speaker 1: person's voice more or you know, from knowing Phoebe and
- 20:04Speaker 1: Lucy's music feature their musicality a little bit more. But
- 20:09Speaker 1: for the most part, like as you said, it is
- 20:12Speaker 1: really them blending their voices and perspectives together and really
- 20:17Speaker 1: like propping each other up. Of course, like because Phoebe
- 20:21Speaker 1: is the most famous and the most prominent, and she has,
- 20:26Speaker 1: you know, her music has been the most out there
- 20:29Speaker 1: in the world for the past couple of years. I
- 20:31Speaker 1: think it's easy to listen to this album and be like, oh,
- 20:34Speaker 1: this is just a Phoebe Bridgers album with these other
- 20:37Speaker 1: two people on it. But it does. I can when
- 20:43Speaker 1: I'm listening notice that certain songs feel more like one
- 20:47Speaker 1: of them than the other, and I like that. It's
- 20:51Speaker 1: a It's nice that they can have their you know,
- 20:54Speaker 1: three different musical careers and then come back to this
- 20:57Speaker 1: project and work together. I think that's a really interesting
- 21:00Speaker 1: way to make music. UM. Some of the standouts for me,
- 21:04Speaker 1: I love True Blue, which is like very much a
- 21:07Speaker 1: Lucy song. UM. Also Leonard Cohen Satanist is really good
- 21:13Speaker 1: and then not strong Enough, which was I think the
- 21:15Speaker 1: second single they released is so good. Like I'm absolutely
- 21:22Speaker 1: certain right now that it will be like, if not,
- 21:25Speaker 1: if not my number one song of the year, you know,
- 21:29Speaker 1: when Spotify Wrapped comes out, you know, at the end
- 21:32Speaker 1: of at the end of twenty twenty three, it will
- 21:34Speaker 1: at least be in the top five because it's just
- 21:37Speaker 1: so good and it's such it's such fucking lesbian ass music,
- 21:44Speaker 1: Like it's so it's so just like you know, yeah,
- 21:51Speaker 1: sad gay girl vibes, Yeah down yeah. I you know,
- 21:55Speaker 1: I'm like a kind of I like the kind of
- 21:57Speaker 1: idea of Phoebe being the kind of front man of
- 22:00Speaker 1: this band, Like it reminds me of the High Women.
- 22:04Speaker 1: It also reminds me of Trio that Emmy Lou Harris,
- 22:07Speaker 1: Linda Ronstaid, Dolly Parton project. Like these kind of like
- 22:11Speaker 1: you know, rock country powerhouses coming together to do something
- 22:16Speaker 1: or just like creative collaborators, I think make a lot
- 22:18Speaker 1: of sense. For Julian Baker Rose, I think you should
- 22:20Speaker 1: listen to Little Oblivions, her most recent album. I think
- 22:23Speaker 1: you would kind of I only listen to it once,
- 22:26Speaker 1: but it does have a kind of like Claro Waxahatchie,
- 22:31Speaker 1: maybe even like Japanese breakfast kind of like vibe, but
- 22:36Speaker 1: that's but like just adjacent, like it's it's pretty specific.
- 22:39Speaker 1: I don't know if I'm doing it justice, but yeah,
- 22:41Speaker 1: that's I'm definitely going to dive in. Now that you've
- 22:43Speaker 1: recommended it, I definitely want to listen. Another new release
- 22:48Speaker 1: that I still need to spend some more time with,
- 22:50Speaker 1: but did listen to this weekend while I was sort
- 22:54Speaker 1: of puttering around my apartment is Eag's debut album with
- 22:59Speaker 1: a Ammer. Obviously, Yaig has been around for a while
- 23:03Speaker 1: and has some, um, you know, really incredible EPs, but
- 23:08Speaker 1: this is her first proper album and it's so good
- 23:14Speaker 1: I need to have sex while it's playing. Stacked. Oh
- 23:18Speaker 1: it's not. It's not quite as sexy as her last EP,
- 23:26Speaker 1: but it's very vibe um, And I just think I
- 23:31Speaker 1: have thought for years that that Yaig is like one
- 23:33Speaker 1: of the most interesting people making music, and now I'm
- 23:37Speaker 1: excited that she's now doing this. I mean, this is
- 23:41Speaker 1: like the whole thing with the music industry. It's like
- 23:43Speaker 1: it's not really her first album, but it's like probably
- 23:46Speaker 1: her first like major label release or something. You know,
- 23:49Speaker 1: this is just how things get categorized. It's like this
- 23:53Speaker 1: is probably like you know, it's it's like, you know,
- 23:56Speaker 1: how always there are artists who are up for Best
- 23:59Speaker 1: New Artists of the Grammys and it's like oh and
- 24:01Speaker 1: you're like you've been out. Yeah, it's like it's like that.
- 24:04Speaker 1: It's that kind of thing. Um. So it'll be interesting
- 24:07Speaker 1: to see like what this does for her career, if
- 24:11Speaker 1: she'll get kind of different attention than she has, because
- 24:14Speaker 1: you know, she's very sort of like Spin magazine cover vibes,
- 24:19Speaker 1: like if you know, you know, but hasn't gotten any
- 24:21Speaker 1: sort of I think probably the most like mainstream she's
- 24:26Speaker 1: gotten is you know, like rain Girl was a pretty
- 24:29Speaker 1: big song. Yeah. Um. I mean she's also she's like
- 24:33Speaker 1: a producers producer. I mean, like all everybody in the
- 24:37Speaker 1: music industry knows who she is or a lot of
- 24:40Speaker 1: like the indie girls have worked with her, and so
- 24:42Speaker 1: you know it's like, yes, she was on a Charlie song,
- 24:45Speaker 1: Yeah exactly, and she is kind of like a Charlie
- 24:47Speaker 1: because Charlie, you know, produced so many records for other
- 24:50Speaker 1: pop artists before you know, like really making a name
- 24:54Speaker 1: for herself, and Yigie I think has been doing that
- 24:57Speaker 1: over the last few years, giving all many shows in
- 25:01Speaker 1: Chris spaces, Like, I feel like I've had the opportunity
- 25:04Speaker 1: to see like seven hundred AGDG sets since I've like,
- 25:07Speaker 1: you know, been living in New York. And I think
- 25:10Speaker 1: that is like the sign of a great music artist
- 25:12Speaker 1: and producer is someone who's just always out there, always
- 25:15Speaker 1: making things, not afraid to like do shows even when
- 25:18Speaker 1: they're you know, even like in under any circumstance. So yeah,
- 25:21Speaker 1: I can't wait to I listened to the first half
- 25:23Speaker 1: when you recommend it, and I can't wait to keep listening. Rose.
- 25:26Speaker 1: Do we even want to talk about the news that
- 25:29Speaker 1: broke this weekend for I'll Never Walk for Neil Yes
- 25:33Speaker 1: Street again, Yes, I mean we have to. It's unconfirmed
- 25:38Speaker 1: at this time, so it is confirmed like news, it's
- 25:42Speaker 1: not confirmed by Taylor. It's until Tree Pain you know,
- 25:45Speaker 1: beams in from you know wherever. I'm not believing a word,
- 25:50Speaker 1: well actually until Taylor is back on tour this weekend
- 25:55Speaker 1: and you know me make some comment about it. Yeah,
- 25:57Speaker 1: So at this time, at the time of record, you know,
- 26:00Speaker 1: Monday afternoon, it is not yet totally confirmed. But based
- 26:05Speaker 1: on reports this weekend, Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn have
- 26:09Speaker 1: broken up. I know they were together first, they were
- 26:13Speaker 1: together for six years. That's crazy, it's I mean, is it.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Is it Taylor's longest relationship. I think it is, And
- 26:20Speaker 1: I yeah, that's gonna be kind of whackadoodle to see
- 26:22Speaker 1: what happens. I'm very excited obviously for the album. Um,
- 26:26Speaker 1: but yeah, bitch. The first the first thing I thought was,
- 26:30Speaker 1: we're getting a breakup album. Gonna be unreal. I mean,
- 26:35Speaker 1: I I really, it'll really, it'll really tell us a
- 26:38Speaker 1: lot about who Taylor is. The thing is is, like,
- 26:43Speaker 1: this is part of the reason I don't love Taylor
- 26:45Speaker 1: is because like a lot of her music and her
- 26:48Speaker 1: songwriting is like less about her and more about like
- 26:51Speaker 1: how she is like reflected in like the men that
- 26:54Speaker 1: she dates, and so much of what her SI, so
- 26:58Speaker 1: much of her songwriting and life experience is really just
- 27:01Speaker 1: like is in orbit to another man that doesn't deserve
- 27:05Speaker 1: her time, and well she's a mirror bley she told
- 27:08Speaker 1: us that's and it's a perfect metaphor for her, and
- 27:11Speaker 1: she understands that she understands who how her like love
- 27:15Speaker 1: takes for him and how it translates to her art,
- 27:17Speaker 1: and I think that's like something that makes her really
- 27:19Speaker 1: interesting as an artist, even though it's sometimes really like
- 27:22Speaker 1: kind of cringe and basic. But with this specifically, like,
- 27:25Speaker 1: I think that when we think about all the breakup
- 27:28Speaker 1: music she's made before, you know, something like a reputation
- 27:32Speaker 1: or a red like is not going to feel right,
- 27:34Speaker 1: even though that's kind of what I want, Like, but
- 27:36Speaker 1: I it feels like it could be something that's actually
- 27:39Speaker 1: like really painful and meditative, or maybe something angsty. But
- 27:44Speaker 1: I don't know. I haven't because we don't know the circumstances.
- 27:48Speaker 1: We don't know how it's going to shake out. Yeah,
- 27:50Speaker 1: but you know, I the thing is like from even
- 27:54Speaker 1: though Taylor obviously has made some incredible music about Joe
- 27:58Speaker 1: Alwan in their relationship, like he seemed like a very
- 28:02Speaker 1: boring person sing and and who knows, Like, I'm sure
- 28:06Speaker 1: she will still be able to mind some incredible art
- 28:10Speaker 1: from this breakup. I just like it. I wonder what
- 28:14Speaker 1: the reason was. And it's not because she's gay. I
- 28:18Speaker 1: am not a gayler conspiracist. I think he's just fucking boring.
- 28:23Speaker 1: I mean, I watched five episodes of Conversations with Friends
- 28:28Speaker 1: with him in it and could not get past it,
- 28:30Speaker 1: even though I loved the book and he's fucking boring
- 28:33Speaker 1: as fuck. I didn't even know He's not a compelling person.
- 28:36Speaker 1: I did not even know he was in that. Um I,
- 28:39Speaker 1: um yeah, I will be. The thing is, I'll be
- 28:42Speaker 1: very curious to know why they broke up. And the
- 28:44Speaker 1: other thing is we're gonna find out Like Taylor will
- 28:48Speaker 1: make us aware, the Whispernet Wrook will make us aware,
- 28:51Speaker 1: The Swifties will make us aware of how it all
- 28:54Speaker 1: went down. And I look forward to that information. So
- 28:57Speaker 1: stay tuned next on like a virgin uh live updates
- 29:02Speaker 1: on No, I'm just kidding me, you won't be doing that. Well.
- 29:25Speaker 1: The big thing to talk about is Succession. It's we're
- 29:29Speaker 1: recording this on Monday, and so Succession was on last night.
- 29:32Speaker 1: Means you have no excuse for spoilers. Yeah, so spoiler alert.
- 29:36Speaker 1: If you have not watched Succession, do not listen to this,
- 29:40Speaker 1: or do not do as producer Phoebe did and read
- 29:43Speaker 1: the Google doc with our notes on it without having
- 29:45Speaker 1: watched it. Um. Rip Logan, Roy, you were a real one.
- 29:50Speaker 1: I know right now you were in hell giving the
- 29:53Speaker 1: devil a blowjob. And you know, um, excuse me, the
- 30:00Speaker 1: devil is giving Logan Roy a blowjob period, Like he
- 30:04Speaker 1: is the one that he would manipulate his way into
- 30:07Speaker 1: that power dynamic. For sure, Logan Roy, Logan word got
- 30:10Speaker 1: to hell and saw the devil went fuck off, fuck off. Yeah, exactly,
- 30:13Speaker 1: Um did you see it coming? What did you think? No?
- 30:17Speaker 1: I was shocked, and in fact, when when they got
- 30:22Speaker 1: the call from Tom and Tom was saying, your dad's
- 30:25Speaker 1: very sick. Yes, I immediately thought it was a trick
- 30:28Speaker 1: because I was thinking about in the first in the
- 30:31Speaker 1: first season when Logan was like waffling about coming to
- 30:35Speaker 1: Shiv's wedding and Marcia called Shiv and was like, oh, yeah,
- 30:39Speaker 1: he's having like chest pains or whatever. I thought it
- 30:42Speaker 1: was just another Tacticum, And no, he's dead. He's really
- 30:49Speaker 1: fucking dead, really fucking dead. It was unexpected, and I
- 30:52Speaker 1: even thought maybe that he was going to come back
- 30:56Speaker 1: after CPR, like they gave us that hope and that
- 31:00Speaker 1: kind of um, that kind of like yeah, like what's
- 31:04Speaker 1: gonna happen kind of vibe, and even like when um, fuck,
- 31:08Speaker 1: what's the Carrie? When Carrie, like you know, came back
- 31:11Speaker 1: through the kind of yes, through them. Yes, that's what
- 31:18Speaker 1: I was giving And I was like that when she
- 31:20Speaker 1: did that, I was like, oh my god, did Logan
- 31:21Speaker 1: Roy like come back to life? Like that's immediately where
- 31:24Speaker 1: my head went, Like I thought it was out like
- 31:26Speaker 1: all yeah, like a kind of gag um. But I'm
- 31:29Speaker 1: shook and I feel like it's It's interesting because the
- 31:32Speaker 1: entire series is kind of predicated on this idea of succession,
- 31:37Speaker 1: and the first scene in Succession him Yes, the first
- 31:40Speaker 1: scene is Succession is him losing his motor functions and
- 31:43Speaker 1: and they're like, oh, he's going to die soon. And
- 31:45Speaker 1: so now that he's tryally dead, it's going to be
- 31:47Speaker 1: really interesting to see where the show then goes, especially
- 31:51Speaker 1: since all of the suspend attention is on this rivalry
- 31:55Speaker 1: between father and children, and now that the father's on,
- 32:00Speaker 1: who is this rival real against? Like is it gonna
- 32:03Speaker 1: is like Roman going to take the other side? Are
- 32:05Speaker 1: they going to be up against Tom and Jerry? Um?
- 32:09Speaker 1: Like what's gonna I don't know, Like it's going to
- 32:11Speaker 1: be interesting to me, Yeah, I do. I do think
- 32:14Speaker 1: the episode sort of sets that up a little bit,
- 32:18Speaker 1: because you know, for all, for all the kids bluster
- 32:23Speaker 1: about hating their dad and only caring about the business
- 32:26Speaker 1: and the money. As soon as things got really real,
- 32:31Speaker 1: you saw how it became the kids on one side
- 32:35Speaker 1: actually processing the fact that their father is dead, processing
- 32:40Speaker 1: and like not processing, which was and then and then
- 32:45Speaker 1: you know, Jerry, Frank, Carl and the pr the publicist,
- 32:51Speaker 1: yeah her, whatever her name was, um them immediately going
- 32:57Speaker 1: into business mode and trying to think of like a
- 33:00Speaker 1: statement and like the markets, and you know, for the
- 33:02Speaker 1: first time, the kids are like, oh, like this actually
- 33:08Speaker 1: the business part of this like doesn't really matter to us.
- 33:10Speaker 1: And we're grappling with the fact that our fathers died
- 33:13Speaker 1: and like as much as we hated him, we loved him.
- 33:15Speaker 1: And I did love that moment where where Kendall was
- 33:18Speaker 1: on the phone talking to their dad and said, you know,
- 33:21Speaker 1: I don't forgive you, but I still loved you. And
- 33:26Speaker 1: I do think that might be the divide now is
- 33:31Speaker 1: between the people who know that they really were only
- 33:35Speaker 1: on the inside because they were useful to Logan, like
- 33:39Speaker 1: people like Tom and Greg, who you know ingratiated themselves
- 33:43Speaker 1: to Logan at the expense of their other relationships, like
- 33:47Speaker 1: Tom was Shiv And now like you saw that Tom
- 33:51Speaker 1: like said to Greg, like people should know that I
- 33:53Speaker 1: was like there, that I was with him because he's
- 33:56Speaker 1: like seeing this like shield that he had crumbling before
- 34:01Speaker 1: his eyes because Logan's gone and it's Yeah, I do
- 34:08Speaker 1: think that could be the rest of the season is
- 34:11Speaker 1: sort of the kids versus you know, the business people,
- 34:16Speaker 1: like Tom going to become the big bad Like I
- 34:18Speaker 1: could see that, Like he's so in control throughout the
- 34:22Speaker 1: whole process and like toward like as of recent episodes,
- 34:26Speaker 1: like seems to really know what he's doing, but he's
- 34:30Speaker 1: also like such a spineless little weasel, like I don't know,
- 34:33Speaker 1: I don't know what's going to happen. Yeah. The acting
- 34:36Speaker 1: in this episode, my god, Emmy's for everyone. I mean,
- 34:41Speaker 1: especially Sarah Snook who plays Shiv. The scene where Kendall
- 34:46Speaker 1: comes down to get her like that, like watching her
- 34:51Speaker 1: go from that to realizing what's happening and like not
- 34:56Speaker 1: believing it and accepting it and then being put on
- 34:59Speaker 1: the phone with Logan just like like some of the
- 35:04Speaker 1: most incredible acting I've seen in a long time. Um.
- 35:07Speaker 1: I also, I mean everyone was fantastic, but I think
- 35:10Speaker 1: especially the kids like fucking knocked it out of the
- 35:15Speaker 1: ballpark and and also Tom Um. You know, Matthew mcphaden
- 35:19Speaker 1: is an amazing actor, and it's going to be crazy
- 35:22Speaker 1: when you know, like award season rolls around, all these
- 35:24Speaker 1: people are going to be basically like probably pitted against
- 35:27Speaker 1: each other. I mean, shif for sure. I think I
- 35:30Speaker 1: hope that Tom will get an m I think honestly,
- 35:33Speaker 1: Logan Roy phenomenal. Like his kind of rousing speech that
- 35:37Speaker 1: he gave to the floor right before this like all happened,
- 35:42Speaker 1: I thought was like so compelling and in at like
- 35:45Speaker 1: now looking back and I was like, oh, that was
- 35:46Speaker 1: his final message to the company. Yeah, And it is
- 35:51Speaker 1: crazy how how absent he is in this episode. You know,
- 35:54Speaker 1: he has that one moment at the beginning because they're
- 35:58Speaker 1: gonna go talk to Matt's and tried to like salvage
- 36:01Speaker 1: the deal, and then he's just gone and they don't
- 36:04Speaker 1: really show him at all, like there's no death scene.
- 36:06Speaker 1: And you know, I was watching the inside the episode.
- 36:09Speaker 1: I also listened to some of the Succession podcast, which
- 36:13Speaker 1: is very good, and you know they were talking about
- 36:16Speaker 1: how they had like played around with the idea of
- 36:19Speaker 1: saving his death till the end of the series, but
- 36:22Speaker 1: like that never felt right, and they wanted it to
- 36:24Speaker 1: happen early in the season because they wanted the final
- 36:27Speaker 1: season to be more about how everyone copes with it
- 36:32Speaker 1: season aftermath. Yeah you didn't know that. Oh I didn't
- 36:35Speaker 1: know that. That makes me feel a lot better. Yea death.
- 36:37Speaker 1: This is the last season of the show. Wow, And um,
- 36:43Speaker 1: you know, they talked a lot about how like this
- 36:45Speaker 1: episode is really about how death happens in our modern life,
- 36:50Speaker 1: about how it's like you know, the phone where that's
- 36:53Speaker 1: like a bad connection and they're only getting this information
- 36:56Speaker 1: second hand, and you know, like Roman being so unwilling
- 37:01Speaker 1: to accept that Logan is dead until someone actually confirms it,
- 37:06Speaker 1: because like imagine how like I felt the same way,
- 37:09Speaker 1: Like I wasn't going to believe Logan Roy was dead
- 37:11Speaker 1: until a doctor said time of death. And it's that
- 37:14Speaker 1: moment where Shiv is like giving the press conference and
- 37:17Speaker 1: she's like, as you know, our father was pronounced dead
- 37:20Speaker 1: on arrival, and like that was oh my, oh my god,
- 37:23Speaker 1: it like it got me, Like Logan is a horrible person,
- 37:27Speaker 1: like truly like one of the most evil people who's
- 37:30Speaker 1: ever been on TV. And I still was, so I
- 37:35Speaker 1: did feel emotional about his death because of the way
- 37:38Speaker 1: that they made it feel so real. The layers of
- 37:42Speaker 1: the episode and of these performances were like totally Like
- 37:46Speaker 1: I mean, people are calling it the best episode of
- 37:48Speaker 1: the series. I definitely think it's one of the best
- 37:50Speaker 1: episodes of the series. And I feel like a lot
- 37:53Speaker 1: of that had to do with the way all these
- 37:55Speaker 1: relationships crystallized in the kind of like in how they
- 38:00Speaker 1: reacted to the grief or how they denied that the
- 38:04Speaker 1: death was happening. And I there's so many Like one
- 38:07Speaker 1: of the layers was like this kind of like metric
- 38:10Speaker 1: of like wealth and power and access and how it
- 38:13Speaker 1: kind of convolutes and constrains your ability to grieve, which
- 38:17Speaker 1: I thought was incredible. And like all the disinformation that
- 38:20Speaker 1: you were talking about like going like you know, signals
- 38:22Speaker 1: going up to the plane, the press circling around it,
- 38:25Speaker 1: a whole room of people already strategizing around to the death,
- 38:28Speaker 1: your inability to kind of strategize with them because you're
- 38:30Speaker 1: actually trying to grieve. And then and then also like
- 38:33Speaker 1: they're so so fucking wealthy, and they're so used to
- 38:36Speaker 1: getting everything they want and they're so used to all
- 38:40Speaker 1: of the roys are so used to controlling every single
- 38:43Speaker 1: component of their lives that they were trying to control
- 38:46Speaker 1: their dad's death and can and keep him from dying,
- 38:49Speaker 1: even though he had been dead for like fifteen minutes,
- 38:53Speaker 1: fifteen twenty minutes at that point, and they're still trying
- 38:56Speaker 1: to be like no, no, no no, but we need to
- 38:58Speaker 1: get a doctor up there, We need to get blah
- 38:59Speaker 1: blah blah, you need to get like It's like that
- 39:01Speaker 1: was like psychotic and so so real to me, um,
- 39:05Speaker 1: And I think that in that seeing all the ways
- 39:07Speaker 1: the relationships crystallize between Roman and Jerry, Tom and shiv
- 39:14Speaker 1: Uh and like Connor and Willa, and Connor to me
- 39:20Speaker 1: was like so the MVP of this episode in a way,
- 39:23Speaker 1: I loved his reaction because you know, throughout the series,
- 39:26Speaker 1: Connor is the one who has the has been the
- 39:29Speaker 1: most often like letting the shitty things their dad does go,
- 39:35Speaker 1: even as recently as last week, because he like wants
- 39:38Speaker 1: to stay in the good graces and like he's not
- 39:40Speaker 1: as wrapped up in the business as the rest of them.
- 39:42Speaker 1: But then after that speech he gave last week which
- 39:45Speaker 1: we never talked about, about how he doesn't need love,
- 39:47Speaker 1: which is and which was incredible, like incredible writing and
- 39:51Speaker 1: incredible acting. His immediate reaction to the death is like,
- 39:55Speaker 1: I'm fine, Like this was not a man who loved
- 39:58Speaker 1: me anyway, and like, like he said last week, I
- 40:01Speaker 1: can deal without love. And I mean because his wedding
- 40:06Speaker 1: day family, Yeah, he found out in the same moment
- 40:09Speaker 1: that not only was his dad dead, but his dad
- 40:13Speaker 1: was dead as he was in the act of skipping
- 40:16Speaker 1: his wedding. Yeah, which is like such a fucking mind fuck.
- 40:21Speaker 1: And then I loved that moment between him and Willa
- 40:24Speaker 1: where they're like going to call off the wedding, and
- 40:26Speaker 1: then it finally makes them, um, like be really honest
- 40:30Speaker 1: with each other about their relationship, and you know, she
- 40:33Speaker 1: says to him that like obviously the financial security of
- 40:37Speaker 1: being with him and is a huge element in their relationship,
- 40:40Speaker 1: but she does still care about him. And then they
- 40:43Speaker 1: still got married at the end of the day, and
- 40:45Speaker 1: you know, like it that it allowed them to be closer.
- 40:50Speaker 1: And I love Willa. Yeah, I love Connor and I'm
- 40:53Speaker 1: not going to leave you yet. Like it's so funny,
- 40:55Speaker 1: like it was just so honest. Um. Yeah, well love
- 40:58Speaker 1: really is your girl, Yeah, I mean she is. I
- 41:02Speaker 1: now that I know that this is the last season. Um, yeah,
- 41:06Speaker 1: I'm I'm just I'm really excited for more. I'm really
- 41:09Speaker 1: excited for how this all kind of winds up. And
- 41:12Speaker 1: I'm mixed. I want to know what happens between Jerry
- 41:16Speaker 1: and Roman. Oh my god, their relationship up. I mean,
- 41:23Speaker 1: this is this show is that when you when you
- 41:26Speaker 1: come for Jerry Kellman, you fucking die on a private jet.
- 41:30Speaker 1: Because the whole episode starts with Logan deploying Roman, who's
- 41:36Speaker 1: newly back on his side, to fire Jerry at the
- 41:38Speaker 1: wedding um, which she does and like she is clearly
- 41:43Speaker 1: pissed and devastated, and Roman is pissed and devastated and
- 41:46Speaker 1: left that message for his father, which he's like unsure
- 41:49Speaker 1: if his if Logan listened to where he like called
- 41:52Speaker 1: him a cunt. I forgot, I forgot, and that's now,
- 41:56Speaker 1: that's now what he has to live with. Also, something
- 41:58Speaker 1: that I thought was interesting in listening to the podcast
- 42:01Speaker 1: is that the main sequence on the boat where you know,
- 42:07Speaker 1: there where Shiv finds out that, I mean, for the
- 42:12Speaker 1: main sequence on the boat where like they find out
- 42:14Speaker 1: about the death and like they're dealing with it. Apparently
- 42:18Speaker 1: while they were shooting it, they decided to do a
- 42:21Speaker 1: version of that where they shot it all as one take.
- 42:24Speaker 1: I knew it and I know really like performed performed
- 42:27Speaker 1: this like one act play on the boat and obviously
- 42:31Speaker 1: it wasn't put in the episode is one long take,
- 42:33Speaker 1: but apparently a lot of the shots that they used
- 42:36Speaker 1: were from that, And um, I mean, like what amazing writing, acting, directing,
- 42:43Speaker 1: like the choreography of that. This is just such a
- 42:48Speaker 1: such a well made TV show. Yeah, it really shows
- 42:53Speaker 1: that was kind of like going to be My final
- 42:55Speaker 1: note is like that on that choreography, like the cinema
- 42:59Speaker 1: was popping off, and I think that something, yes, something
- 43:02Speaker 1: that so now like the final take, like knowing that
- 43:05Speaker 1: it was like supposed to be all one take or
- 43:07Speaker 1: that they shot a version that was all one take.
- 43:09Speaker 1: That was one of the first things that I noticed
- 43:11Speaker 1: when the kind of when the death is kind of
- 43:14Speaker 1: put in motion or like the hints of death are
- 43:16Speaker 1: put in motion, we get a lot of really long shots.
- 43:19Speaker 1: And something that I really appreciated about this death process
- 43:24Speaker 1: and something that I wish other shows did was just
- 43:26Speaker 1: like understand the power of living something in real time
- 43:30Speaker 1: and as the viewer we felt like we were in
- 43:33Speaker 1: real time experiencing the death through each character as it
- 43:37Speaker 1: happened to each character. And something that people never do
- 43:41Speaker 1: in screenwriting is like to like when someone you know,
- 43:45Speaker 1: when something happens, and then they have to go to
- 43:47Speaker 1: two other characters and tell them what happens. They have
- 43:49Speaker 1: to recap and say, Okay, this is what happened, and
- 43:51Speaker 1: like you usually don't write that part into a script
- 43:53Speaker 1: because you don't have to recap for the audience because
- 43:55Speaker 1: we already watched it. But seeing the kind of game
- 43:59Speaker 1: of telephone that they were playing, and the various ways
- 44:02Speaker 1: that they literally yes, and the various ways they were
- 44:04Speaker 1: all kind of framing this death, and they all framed
- 44:07Speaker 1: it differently, whether it was in denial or whether they
- 44:10Speaker 1: wanted it to be their mom or whether they wanted,
- 44:12Speaker 1: you know, they wanted to like focus on the pr
- 44:14Speaker 1: like whatever. That I think was just genius because you
- 44:17Speaker 1: immediately saw where everyone stood and how they were thinking
- 44:23Speaker 1: of their own you know shit at the whole time. Oh,
- 44:28Speaker 1: it was so good. Yes, I mean not to not
- 44:33Speaker 1: to be this girl, but I mean I do think
- 44:36Speaker 1: this episode owes a lot to one of the most
- 44:38Speaker 1: iconic episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slash the Body, which
- 44:42Speaker 1: is the episode in which Buffy's mom dies and she
- 44:47Speaker 1: and the other characters deal with it basically in real time.
- 44:52Speaker 1: And yeah, I mean, you know, death, death, There's a
- 44:56Speaker 1: reason why it's played out in mos you know, popular
- 45:02Speaker 1: media and in most you know, really good media because
- 45:06Speaker 1: the way that people deal with death, I think says
- 45:08Speaker 1: a lot about who they learn about the human condition. Um.
- 45:12Speaker 1: And yeah, I mean that, Like, as we were saying before,
- 45:15Speaker 1: this whole show is about death. That is the point
- 45:18Speaker 1: of the show. And so of course Logan was always
- 45:21Speaker 1: going to die. He had to die, Like that is
- 45:23Speaker 1: the only way that this question of succession is actually
- 45:27Speaker 1: going to be figured out, because Logan has spent this
- 45:30Speaker 1: whole show not dying, Yeah, refusing, refusing to accept that
- 45:35Speaker 1: he would die, and seeing his children and their their
- 45:39Speaker 1: struggle for power as the living, breathing embodiment of his
- 45:44Speaker 1: own mortality. And that's all interesting to see what Yeah,
- 45:49Speaker 1: and it'll be very interesting to see what the show
- 45:51Speaker 1: becomes in the absence of that. He will leave a
- 45:55Speaker 1: huge hole. Um, not only in my heart but in
- 45:58Speaker 1: my assy would suck? Would suck? Well, not let Brian
- 46:04Speaker 1: Cox would suck Logan Royan. Yeah, pretty bad, pretty bad.
