- 0:00Speaker 1: Are you into tapai chu?
- 0:01Speaker 2: MYI?
- 0:01Speaker 1: It's one more thing.
- 0:04Speaker 3: I'm strong and getty. One more thing that a Star
- 0:09Speaker 3: Trek character with a head like a horse in it,
- 0:11Speaker 3: body like a hate or something.
- 0:14Speaker 1: It's Chinese and I don't know if I pronounced it
- 0:16Speaker 1: correctly or not, but I'll get to that in a second. First, this,
- 0:19Speaker 1: this made the rounds over the weekend. It was somebody
- 0:23Speaker 1: who put an ad on Facebook. It got enough popularity
- 0:27Speaker 1: the New York Times wrote about it. It was basically
- 0:30Speaker 1: some woman saying, I'd love to have a wife. She's
- 0:34Speaker 1: not a lesbian. This isn't sexual. She said, I'd love
- 0:36Speaker 1: to have a wife that could do the chores I hate.
- 0:39Speaker 1: I'll do the ones she hates. We'll split the bills,
- 0:42Speaker 1: we'll each max out our four one k's and roth iras.
- 0:46Speaker 1: It'd have to be sexless. Of course, we probably wouldn't
- 0:48Speaker 1: even need to get married. Of course, that's what would
- 0:50Speaker 1: make her sexless. Is anybody interested, to which a lot
- 0:56Speaker 1: of the replies were, Yeah, that sounds awesome. I'd like
- 0:58Speaker 1: that too, with a lot of the other replies saying,
- 1:01Speaker 1: isn't that kind of what a marriage would be if
- 1:04Speaker 1: you just found a man? I like, you split the
- 1:07Speaker 1: chores and try to be financially responsible, and you know,
- 1:11Speaker 1: the sexist part wouldn't be great.
- 1:13Speaker 4: But she's not a lesbian.
- 1:14Speaker 1: She's not lesbian. It's just it's I don't know, I
- 1:17Speaker 1: guess the the I know a tinge of men are
- 1:21Speaker 1: stupid and useless. Yes, would would help out with your chores, okay, well,
- 1:27Speaker 1: or or or be a good partner for life, not
- 1:29Speaker 1: just chores. But that's yeah, definitely. And then like lots
- 1:35Speaker 1: of people were on board like that, which kind of
- 1:36Speaker 1: gets that whole weird dating thing that's going on right
- 1:38Speaker 1: now where there's just you know, people aren't getting together. Uh,
- 1:43Speaker 1: women thinking in some cases are right, there are there's
- 1:46Speaker 1: no men out there to look up with because they're
- 1:48Speaker 1: all sitting at home looking at porn and playing video games,
- 1:52Speaker 1: which is true for a lot of men. And then
- 1:55Speaker 1: you got the flip side of a man who don't
- 1:57Speaker 1: want to date because there's a bunch of crazy radicals. Well,
- 2:01Speaker 1: in the studies that we've talked about several times, the
- 2:04Speaker 1: gap between one gender being one party and the other
- 2:08Speaker 1: gender being the other party, it's always been split pretty
- 2:11Speaker 1: much eavenly, and now it's vastly different.
- 2:14Speaker 3: So I don't know.
- 2:15Speaker 1: I don't know what we're gonna do about that it
- 2:18Speaker 1: failed to reproduce and die away. I guess it would
- 2:20Speaker 1: be my.
- 2:23Speaker 3: Defeatism is a warm blanket that people like if my
- 2:31Speaker 3: job sucks, all jobs suck, and I'm just not gonna
- 2:36Speaker 3: try anymore because all jobs suck. Yeah, here's the difference.
- 2:39Speaker 3: My man sucks, all men suck. I'm not gonna try anymore.
- 2:44Speaker 1: But in this case it would be I've got a
- 2:46Speaker 1: job though, that's pretty good. It's enough. I don't need more,
- 2:51Speaker 1: so because like men are getting enough to get by
- 2:56Speaker 1: with porn and video games.
- 2:59Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I was talking more about that whole men
- 3:02Speaker 3: are stupid and useless.
- 3:04Speaker 1: I need a wife and women are getting by enough
- 3:06Speaker 1: with Gallantine's Day and whatever else.
- 3:12Speaker 3: I saw a.
- 3:13Speaker 4: Post the other day with the kind of going along
- 3:16Speaker 4: the line of what Joe's talking about, like the all
- 3:18Speaker 4: men are useless and what The top comment that had
- 3:21Speaker 4: the most likes was you feel this way because you
- 3:24Speaker 4: can't get one.
- 3:26Speaker 1: I totally agree with that.
- 3:29Speaker 4: You're bitter and that's the only reason you're If some
- 3:32Speaker 4: guy came into that woman's life and swept her off
- 3:35Speaker 4: her feet tomorrow she'd be happy. Yep, They're useless until
- 3:40Speaker 4: that happens.
- 3:40Speaker 3: How many members of the Nick quint is He man
- 3:43Speaker 3: woman haters club like have had a meaningful relationship with
- 3:47Speaker 3: a good woman and have decided Nope, I'm not in
- 3:51Speaker 3: favor of that. No, it's it's the defeatism I was
- 3:53Speaker 3: talking about. Yeah, and look, there are issues, there are problems,
- 3:57Speaker 3: there are challenges. Overcome them, or just go ahead and die,
- 4:01Speaker 3: go down and die. Just I hate defeatism. Or it's
- 4:06Speaker 3: the only thing that can hold you back. Yes, Michael, No,
- 4:09Speaker 3: I was just shocked by that suggestion to that's all.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Here's how I'll transition to this other part or get
- 4:17Speaker 1: into too Pie to Mai, which is popular in China
- 4:22Speaker 1: right now. New York Times did a big piece on
- 4:24Speaker 1: this over the weekend. China is failing to curb the
- 4:28Speaker 1: secret filming betrayal of women and girls to my to
- 4:33Speaker 1: Pie to Mai, and I'm again I'm pronouncing that wrong.
- 4:36Speaker 1: I'm sure is a Chinese for secret filming betrayal, and
- 4:39Speaker 1: it's become like the rage all across China. A vast
- 4:44Speaker 1: trade of secretly filmed footage of Chinese women and Girls
- 4:49Speaker 1: has flourished, powering the anonymity of by the anonymity of telegram.
- 4:53Speaker 1: That's like the you know, you can share stuff around
- 4:57Speaker 1: encryptied nobody can find out who you are, and the
- 4:59Speaker 1: can nvenience of Chinese online payment apps. People are sharing
- 5:03Speaker 1: and trading photos and videos of the girl, their own girlfriends, wives, relatives,
- 5:08Speaker 1: and acquaintances with secret cameras and bathrooms and bedrooms. Oh
- 5:13Speaker 1: you know it's daughters too, sick.
- 5:15Speaker 3: That's sick. That'd be a small bridge to cross.
- 5:20Speaker 1: And for whatever reason, Chinese culture is huge right now, God.
- 5:24Speaker 4: You said twopied, whatever the hell? And I was thinking, like,
- 5:27Speaker 4: is that a dessert?
- 5:29Speaker 1: The lack of enforcement is striking for a country known
- 5:32Speaker 1: for its expansive online surveillance and its ability to track
- 5:35Speaker 1: users on platforms, right. I mean, they can crack down
- 5:38Speaker 1: on all kinds of different stuff, but for whatever reason,
- 5:40Speaker 1: they can't or haven't on this, and it's just a
- 5:46Speaker 1: huge thing.
- 5:49Speaker 3: Wow, why China's weird? China is weird. We've got a
- 5:53Speaker 3: couple of listeners who've spent most of their lives living
- 5:55Speaker 3: and working in China that are like, now you should come.
- 5:58Speaker 3: It's actually pretty cool in a lot of way.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I wonder about it. I wonder about That's funny.
- 6:02Speaker 1: I was talking to somebody the other day from Mongolia
- 6:05Speaker 1: and she grew up and so I didn't know anything
- 6:08Speaker 1: about Mongolia. I've been to a Mongolian barbecue, which I
- 6:11Speaker 1: did not bring up to her.
- 6:12Speaker 4: But.
- 6:14Speaker 1: I didn't know anything opportunity. I didn't know anything about Mongolia.
- 6:17Speaker 1: So I did a tiny bit of research.
- 6:18Speaker 3: Hey, how about that Djengis Khan? He was something, wasn't
- 6:21Speaker 3: he crazy?
- 6:22Speaker 1: Since I you know? Anyway, so Mongolia was a basically
- 6:27Speaker 1: a Soviet state and then got its freedom. So I
- 6:34Speaker 1: said to this person, did you grow up under communism?
- 6:36Speaker 1: And she said yeah, And actually for us it was
- 6:39Speaker 1: pretty great. We liked it. I thought, well, because that's
- 6:41Speaker 1: not what I was expecting, you know. Yeah, and we
- 6:44Speaker 1: were the one of the elite families. Oh okay, so
- 6:47Speaker 1: you were one of the elite families that you know,
- 6:52Speaker 1: get the the stuff of communism while everybody else out
- 6:57Speaker 1: there is suffering, and you know, you're into that. The
- 7:01Speaker 1: way communism works, it's done really in all the garky
- 7:04Speaker 1: as opposed to capitalism. And I thought that's interesting, And
- 7:07Speaker 1: I wonder that about like when we hear that from people,
- 7:09Speaker 1: have you know worked in China and said, is fantastic. Yeah,
- 7:12Speaker 1: I don't think you're getting the full I'm a communist
- 7:15Speaker 1: and not allowed to decide what I do for a
- 7:17Speaker 1: living or where I live.
- 7:18Speaker 3: Treatment right, Yeah, these are American expats, I think, but
- 7:23Speaker 3: I don't know what's going on with them. I would
- 7:25Speaker 3: like to know more. I just I don't take it
- 7:27Speaker 3: at face value, and it's like, oh, I was wrong. No,
- 7:30Speaker 3: I think, hmm, there's something going on here.
- 7:32Speaker 1: But an interesting I didn't realize that at least the
- 7:34Speaker 1: way I worked in Mongolian is probably this way in
- 7:35Speaker 1: a lot of communist countries. There is a group, the
- 7:39Speaker 1: top one percent, five percent, whatever it is, that think
- 7:41Speaker 1: this is pretty cool.
- 7:43Speaker 3: I'm kind of enjoying myself one hundred percent.
- 7:46Speaker 1: And there was no crime, she said, because you know,
- 7:49Speaker 1: everybody is so locked down and afraid. It's really great
- 7:53Speaker 1: if you were a part of the elite. But in China,
- 7:58Speaker 1: I guess they're all so lonely, weird. They're looking at
- 8:01Speaker 1: videos of your co worker's daughter taking a shower or
- 8:06Speaker 1: using the bathroom.
- 8:07Speaker 3: I don't get that at all.
- 8:08Speaker 4: All of that makes me sick.
- 8:10Speaker 3: To my stuff.
- 8:10Speaker 1: I know, I don't get it.
- 8:11Speaker 3: I don't.
- 8:12Speaker 1: I don't get I've never been denied well, first of all,
- 8:16Speaker 1: I'm not a provo and then two, I've never been
- 8:18Speaker 1: denied any sort of like access to that sort of stuff.
- 8:23Speaker 1: I don't know what desirous you would be of seeing
- 8:25Speaker 1: naked person in any situation if you didn't have access
- 8:28Speaker 1: to that.
- 8:29Speaker 3: Or do they not have access to porn?
- 8:31Speaker 1: Well, China, from what I've understood in the past, because
- 8:34Speaker 1: as part of this article, they cracked down so hard
- 8:36Speaker 1: on their internet, they don't. They don't have, you know,
- 8:39Speaker 1: unfettered porn like we have in the United States. But
- 8:42Speaker 1: for some reason they're on. But for some reason they're
- 8:45Speaker 1: allowing this. So you don't allow porn on your internet.
- 8:48Speaker 1: But you got it right. You got neighbors trading pictures
- 8:51Speaker 1: of daughters and wives without consent, you're videoing your wife
- 8:57Speaker 1: in the bathroom and sharing it with your friends, what
- 9:00Speaker 1: the hell?
- 9:01Speaker 3: Or selling it to people on behind and yeah creeps. Yeah,
- 9:08Speaker 3: we really really really need religion or like a specific,
- 9:13Speaker 3: a specific moral code as as human beings. It is
- 9:18Speaker 3: too easy. According to every philosophy that's ever taken root,
- 9:22Speaker 3: it's too easy to be drawn to the dark side
- 9:24Speaker 3: and and and become something you should not be. It's
- 9:29Speaker 3: just like every single minute of every day. Well, the
- 9:33Speaker 3: natural state of the universe's entropy, right, chaos, ugliness, well,
- 9:37Speaker 3: not ugliness per se, but chaos.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Yes, everything is moving toward disorder unless you have a
- 9:43Speaker 1: very strong force to hold it in order. And that's
- 9:47Speaker 1: true of every.
- 9:49Speaker 3: All matter, planets, and human souls and and civilizations. Yeah,
- 9:55Speaker 3: that's freaking profound right there. Huh did Yingma? Do you
- 10:00Speaker 3: know ying Ma?
- 10:02Speaker 1: Katie? She is a Bay Area person grew up in China,
- 10:07Speaker 1: wrote a book about growing up in Oakland and how
- 10:08Speaker 1: racist it was, got on a lot of radio shows,
- 10:11Speaker 1: just wondered did you ever talk to.
- 10:12Speaker 4: Yes, Okay, yeah, I'd forgotten, but yeah, now that you
- 10:15Speaker 4: say that.
- 10:15Speaker 1: We had her on a bunch of times. Did she
- 10:17Speaker 1: tell us a thing about the cats off the air?
- 10:19Speaker 1: On the air, though, Joe, do you remember? I don't
- 10:20Speaker 1: want to share a story she said off air.
- 10:24Speaker 3: I can't remember. I think it might have been off air.
- 10:27Speaker 3: Of course, this is a podcast, it's not being aired
- 10:29Speaker 3: per se.
- 10:30Speaker 1: I don't think she'd mind. I know her pretty well anyway.
- 10:33Speaker 1: She grew up in China under communist control. Doesn't sound
- 10:37Speaker 1: very elite to me. I mean, when she was a kid,
- 10:39Speaker 1: they'd go out and find a stray cat for dinner. Katie, Okay,
- 10:43Speaker 1: she'd go out and grab a stray cat, bring it back,
- 10:46Speaker 1: put it in a bucket of water and put the
- 10:48Speaker 1: lid on it. Then skin it and cut it up
- 10:53Speaker 1: and fry up and eat it because they didn't have
- 10:55Speaker 1: any other food, because they're desperate.
- 10:57Speaker 4: You do what you have to do.
- 10:58Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I'd do that before it's are.
- 11:02Speaker 1: But that doesn't sound like, you know, for those people
- 11:05Speaker 1: who said I lived in China was fantastic.
- 11:07Speaker 3: They're eating the cats, eating the dogs, the pets of
- 11:13Speaker 3: the people who lived there. I'm completely forgotten about that.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Wow, they're eating the cats, They're eating the dogs.
- 11:23Speaker 3: Do we have any of those musical remixes. That was
- 11:27Speaker 3: the best thing ever.
- 11:28Speaker 1: That was one of the best things that's ever happened
- 11:30Speaker 1: in the history of the world.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Including they're eating the dogs, the people that came in,
- 11:35Speaker 2: They're eating the cats, they're eating they're eating of the
- 11:40Speaker 2: people that live there.
- 11:42Speaker 3: You go, any reason to play that, Come visit scenic China. Uh,
- 11:52Speaker 3: Toby Lincoln I'm talking to my cats.
- 11:55Speaker 2: I won't do anything like this, I promise.
- 12:00Speaker 4: There's a big stutter in there, Michael, I don't know.
- 12:02Speaker 3: Ye watch your back, Toby. Well, I guess that's it.
- 12:06Speaker 3: If a cat named Toby
