- 0:22Speaker 2: Jamie mckaye, host of the Countries with us Alo Jamie. Hello,
- 0:26Speaker 2: Heather Right's, we've got the Rubbobank Monthly Report. What's that
- 0:28Speaker 2: good in it?
- 0:30Speaker 3: Well, it's an looking at all our commodities and our
- 0:34Speaker 3: farm inputs and oil and freight and interest in exchange rates.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Just a very quick synopsis for you and your fat
- 0:41Speaker 3: tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands of listeners. Heather, dairy's
- 0:45Speaker 3: looking pretty positive. The powders are up, the fats are down.
- 0:47Speaker 3: That's good news if you're buying butter in the supermarket.
- 0:50Speaker 3: And those Americans with their weight loss drugs are pushing
- 0:53Speaker 3: skim milk powder through the roof and way. We talked
- 0:56Speaker 3: about that, I think last week. So dairyes, looking really solid.
- 1:00Speaker 3: I think we're going to get a payout on the
- 1:02Speaker 3: high nines. Who knows, it might even get to ten.
- 1:05Speaker 3: Beef's pretty good, but there is some increased supply around
- 1:08Speaker 3: the world, but there seems to be in sociable demand
- 1:11Speaker 3: out of the US. Sheep is good off the back
- 1:14Speaker 3: of just tight supplied and plus with our free trade
- 1:17Speaker 3: agreements with the likes of the UK and the EU,
- 1:20Speaker 3: we're getting more sheep in there than we used to
- 1:23Speaker 3: farm inputs. This is where the trouble begins. You know,
- 1:26Speaker 3: some of that fertilizer urea nitrogen fertilizer. Prices of double phosphates,
- 1:31Speaker 3: which is our main form of fertilizer here in this
- 1:33Speaker 3: country's up around twenty percent, all to do with the
- 1:37Speaker 3: Middle East oil and freight. God, I mean goodness only
- 1:40Speaker 3: knows what's going to happen there that's in the hands
- 1:43Speaker 3: of someone in another country other than US. And interest
- 1:46Speaker 3: rate in exchange rate, it was interesting they're picking no
- 1:51Speaker 3: move in the ocr in May remember they left it
- 1:53Speaker 3: unchanged in April with the will be maybe two or
- 1:57Speaker 3: three before the end of the year. We'll all look
- 1:59Speaker 3: forward to that one. And the exchange rate we started
- 2:03Speaker 3: or we were at fifty nine when this report was written,
- 2:07Speaker 3: where in high I think we're about fifty nine point
- 2:09Speaker 3: sixty six at the moment. They're picking Rabobank. The boffins
- 2:12Speaker 3: at Rabobank are saying an exchange rate of sixty two
- 2:16Speaker 3: US cents by years end or in the next twelve months,
- 2:19Speaker 3: which is not that good for exporters. It's okay, but
- 2:22Speaker 3: the good news is that will make our imports name
- 2:25Speaker 3: we fuel and fertilizer a wee bit cheaper.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Always happy about that. Now, boys, tell me this is
- 2:29Speaker 2: the boys in my production team. Tell me you're really
- 2:31Speaker 2: excited about the primary Industry's New Zealand Awards, which are not.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Like six weeks, not even for six weeks.
- 2:39Speaker 2: What are you doing getting excited now?
- 2:41Speaker 3: Well? No, because today here there is a reason for this.
- 2:44Speaker 3: Today the twenty twenty six award finalists were announced and
- 2:50Speaker 3: also they confirmed the dynamic duo of presenters Heather Duplicy
- 2:56Speaker 3: Allen and Jamie McKay. And I just said, your producer, Kevin,
- 2:58Speaker 3: who do you think will be the alpha presenter? He
- 3:01Speaker 3: said he was going to plead the Fifth Amendment on
- 3:03Speaker 3: that one. But look, I'll be there to keep your company, Heather,
- 3:06Speaker 3: and I'll really look forward to it.
- 3:08Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, no, no, I'm keeping you company because
- 3:11Speaker 2: I'm going to be You're going to be the kind
- 3:14Speaker 2: You're going to be the Paul Henry and I'm going
- 3:15Speaker 2: to be the pipa wetzel. I'm your fluff.
- 3:19Speaker 3: No. But as as I fondly say about you, Heather,
- 3:23Speaker 3: the only soft thing about you is your teeth. I
- 3:25Speaker 3: don't go along with that one. I think you'll be
- 3:27Speaker 3: the hard ass. I'll try and play this to nice.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Okay.
- 3:30Speaker 2: I was kind of hoping you're going to do all
- 3:32Speaker 2: the hard work. But I can see how this is
- 3:33Speaker 2: rolling out.
- 3:34Speaker 3: I'm used to you and your family anyhow. This is
- 3:37Speaker 3: it's in conjunction. It's in conjunction with the primary industry
- 3:39Speaker 3: in New Zealand conference. This is the biggest conference run
- 3:43Speaker 3: by FEDS. It's happening on the twenty at third and
- 3:47Speaker 3: fourth of June election year. Naturally, there's lots of politicians
- 3:52Speaker 3: speaking at the conference over the two days, Lux and Hipkins,
- 3:56Speaker 3: Shane Jones, David Seymour, Todd McLay. You know some real
- 4:00Speaker 3: key people in trade like Vanjelli Vitalis the trade expert
- 4:03Speaker 3: from m Fat, Lawrence Meredith, great bloke, the EU ambassad
- 4:09Speaker 3: No sign on the speaking roster of any Greens or
- 4:12Speaker 3: to party, Marray, I wonder why that's happening.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Are you going to wear a suit?
- 4:17Speaker 3: Yeah? Yeah too right, it's like casting up. It's business attire.
- 4:23Speaker 3: It's actually formal dress, so yet very much suit and tie.
- 4:26Speaker 3: And they announced all the finalists today and there's about
- 4:29Speaker 3: ten awards and here I'm just going to throw one
- 4:31Speaker 3: out there, fly a Kite the Outstanding Contribution to New
- 4:34Speaker 3: Zealand's Primary Industries Award. They picked someone they've named the
- 4:38Speaker 3: finalists and all the other categories. Our Riley Kennedy from
- 4:43Speaker 3: Business Desk made it as well. I really hope he
- 4:45Speaker 3: goes well, I'm picking Todd McLay to take out that one.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Actually, Todd mcclay's done an awesome job. Yeah, I hear yet, Jamie,
- 4:51Speaker 2: Thank you, appreciate it. Jamie McKay, host of the Country.
