- 0:02Speaker 1: This is college football with Stugatz and the Bear.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Now it's go time.
- 0:07Speaker 3: T-Bob is with us. Wake up, barstool.
- 0:09Speaker 4: And then at the time of greatest triumph, I want
- 0:12Speaker 4: to suck from the cup of their tears. I want
- 0:14Speaker 4: to watch their women and children writhing on the ground.
- 0:18Speaker 4: Everything that is precious to Ole Miss, everything they pray
- 0:21Speaker 4: for when they lay their head down at night and
- 0:23Speaker 4: they talk to their creator, you want to take all
- 0:26Speaker 4: of that and you want to melt it in front
- 0:28Speaker 4: of their faces and pour it back down their throat
- 0:31Speaker 4: and execute them.
- 0:32Speaker 3: I mean, who cares?
- 0:33Speaker 2: What, are you kidding me?
- 0:35Speaker 4: If I heard somebody utter those words, I would throw
- 0:38Speaker 4: them out the second story of the football life. I
- 0:41Speaker 4: love you boys.
- 0:43Speaker 1: This is the debut episode of College Football with Stu
- 0:46Speaker 1: Gatz and the Bear. And, of course, everyone knows the
- 0:50Speaker 1: exact right time, guys, to start a college football show
- 0:53Speaker 1: is week four of the college football season.
- 0:58Speaker 2: It would have been the perfect time last year. Last
- 1:02Speaker 2: year at this time, what, Florida State, Illinois State, LSU
- 1:07Speaker 2: and Penn State undefeated in the top ten. And then
- 1:10Speaker 2: the season began. All those four teams want to finish
- 1:13Speaker 2: in unranked. A couple of them fired their head coach.
- 1:15Speaker 2: I think you're on to something here.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Yes, and there are big games coming up this weekend.
- 1:19Speaker 1: It's a big slate. Listen, Bear, your name is on
- 1:22Speaker 1: the show. My name is on the show. But T-Bob's
- 1:25Speaker 1: is not, and he is with us. He is a
- 1:27Speaker 1: special guest, the rare special guest.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Who will join us every single episode.
- 1:32Speaker 4: Look, guys. Hey, I'm just glad to be here. Two
- 1:37Speaker 4: of my favorite guys on the entire planet. And, you know, Stu, again,
- 1:42Speaker 4: while some would call it broadcasting, I'm kind of with Bear.
- 1:45Speaker 4: We're on to something with this four-week start. Yes. We've
- 1:47Speaker 4: got a little knowledge and data to play with. Right.
- 1:50Speaker 4: A lot of teams nowadays too scared to go tough
- 1:54Speaker 4: out of conference schedules. And then we look at this weekend, guys,
- 1:57Speaker 4: and it is ranked on ranked. All the way down
- 2:00Speaker 4: the line, it's going to be a fantastic Saturday. I
- 2:04Speaker 4: cannot wait.
- 2:05Speaker 2: We earned it, man. We absolutely earned it with some
- 2:08Speaker 2: of the crap that we had to sit through. We
- 2:11Speaker 2: loved the games. We watched them. There were a couple
- 2:13Speaker 2: of good ones, but now it's time. Now it's going time.
- 2:18Speaker 1: I just want to say, T-Bob, before you continue here,
- 2:20Speaker 1: just how delightful it is for me, Taylor, and Mikey A.,
- 2:22Speaker 1: and I'm sorry to cut you off because I am
- 2:24Speaker 1: now working here. We have two new voices. I am
- 2:27Speaker 1: now working with a very old friend who has been
- 2:28Speaker 1: very loyal and very good to me, the bear, and
- 2:31Speaker 1: a new friend who has also been very loyal and
- 2:33Speaker 1: very good to me, T-Bob. Check him out. Wake up
- 2:36Speaker 1: Barstool every morning, FS1, 8 to 10 a.m. and wherever
- 2:39Speaker 1: you get your podcast. With that being said, this show
- 2:42Speaker 1: is going to sound different. I think the audience is
- 2:45Speaker 1: tired of my voice. They're tired of Taylor's voice. They're
- 2:47Speaker 1: tired of Mikey A's voice. And I am happy that
- 2:50Speaker 1: T-Bob is going to kind of drive this thing with Bear.
- 2:54Speaker 3: They love college football.
- 2:55Speaker 1: They know backup defensive linemen at schools like Alabama.
- 2:59Speaker 3: I don't know a.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Single name of a single defensive lineman anywhere at any
- 3:04Speaker 1: college in America. These guys know college football more than
- 3:08Speaker 1: any two people I know.
- 3:09Speaker 3: So with that being said, T-Bob, the floor is yours.
- 3:13Speaker 4: Yeah, that's how it's done. Look, we got the bear.
- 3:15Speaker 4: We got a bear. There's a little rhyming there. Speaking
- 3:21Speaker 4: of rhyming, we look at Knoxville, Tennessee this weekend. We've
- 3:25Speaker 4: got burnt orange. We've got volunteer orange. We've got presidential orange.
- 3:30Speaker 4: That's right. The leader of the free world heading to
- 3:33Speaker 4: Knoxville to take in America's greatest new pastime, college football.
- 3:38Speaker 4: And bear, this is a tough one for me here
- 3:42Speaker 4: because you look at Arch Manning. He's been elite in
- 3:45Speaker 4: top 10 games recently, 4-1 in his last five. But
- 3:48Speaker 4: these are kind of the situations in which Texas struggled
- 3:52Speaker 4: last season, on the road against what appears to be
- 3:56Speaker 4: a lesser team in conference. What are your early reads here,
- 4:00Speaker 4: Knoxville Bear?
- 4:01Speaker 2: Early lean is Vols plus the points. And I know
- 4:04Speaker 2: early in the week we saw an influx of Texas bets.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Late in the week we've seen a bunch of little buyback,
- 4:10Speaker 2: a little sharper buddy on the Vols. I'm not sure
- 4:15Speaker 2: what to do with Texas, man. Like, I know they
- 4:17Speaker 2: beat Ohio State. I'm not sold. Look, you got to
- 4:20Speaker 2: give them credit for winning that game. They're number one.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Going on the road now. Tough environment. The ghosts of
- 4:28Speaker 2: Uncle Peyton and whatever else at Neyland Stadium. This is
- 4:32Speaker 2: one of the– I know we had Brady Quinn on
- 4:34Speaker 2: Bear Betts the other day, and he was saying that
- 4:36Speaker 2: this was the toughest atmosphere that he's ever played in.
- 4:39Speaker 2: It could be a nasty, loud crowd. Would not surprise
- 4:44Speaker 2: me at all to see Tennessee pull the other. Remember
- 4:47Speaker 2: last year, they gave a couple games away against Georgia
- 4:50Speaker 2: and Oklahoma. Games they had won. So this was a
- 4:53Speaker 2: massive spot, I think, for Heupel and certainly the freshman
- 4:57Speaker 2: quarterback phase and Brandon to potentially get a marquee win
- 5:00Speaker 2: out of the gate. Would not surprise me if we
- 5:02Speaker 2: see number one go down on Saturday.
- 5:09Speaker 4: So that's Stu's bear sound. He's very excited to play
- 5:15Speaker 4: it when me and Bear get too nerdy about our
- 5:18Speaker 4: college football love.
- 5:19Speaker 3: Okay, Stu.
- 5:20Speaker 4: So let's start here then. Something you are good at.
- 5:23Speaker 4: Moving the goalposts, right? Because that's what we're all doing
- 5:26Speaker 4: to Arch. Arch does it against Ohio State. Hey, do
- 5:29Speaker 4: it again. Do it again in the hall of your forefathers.
- 5:34Speaker 4: What is your message to Arch?
- 5:36Speaker 3: Do it on the road. Here is the big question. Seriously,
- 5:39Speaker 3: do it on the road.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Here is the big question that me, Taylor, and Mikey
- 5:42Speaker 1: have been thinking about basically the entire week. Peyton Manning
- 5:46Speaker 1: went to Tennessee. His nephew was playing quarterback for Texas.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Peyton will be at the game. Who is Peyton Manning
- 5:51Speaker 1: rooting for?
- 5:52Speaker 3: How about that?
- 5:54Speaker 4: I mean, bro.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Family comes first.
- 5:56Speaker 3: I don't know. Yes.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Nephew's a stretch.
- 6:00Speaker 1: This is not a son, although everyone thinks that Arch
- 6:03Speaker 1: is Peyton's son.
- 6:04Speaker 3: He's not. It's his nephew.
- 6:08Speaker 4: It's not a son, but it's also not a normal nephew, guys.
- 6:12Speaker 4: Because the Mannings are the closest we have to American monarchy.
- 6:17Speaker 4: And when you're a part of a monarchy, when you're
- 6:19Speaker 4: a part of a royal family, every relation does mean
- 6:24Speaker 4: a little more. So this is not just average Joe nephew.
- 6:27Speaker 4: This is a royal nephew, meaning the name is on
- 6:30Speaker 4: the line, meaning Peyton Manning. has to be cheering for
- 6:34Speaker 4: Texas here. It would be– I mean, Cooper, I would
- 6:36Speaker 4: never talk to my brother again if he was cheering
- 6:38Speaker 4: for Tennessee. Fuck that.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Hold on. Hold on. Is Cooper next in line for
- 6:43Speaker 2: the monarchy? No, no, no, no, no.
- 6:46Speaker 4: First, I mean, obviously the king still lives, right? Shout
- 6:49Speaker 4: out to Poppy Archie. Yep. But, no, I mean, first
- 6:51Speaker 4: we've got to get through Payton, then Eli. Cooper's currently
- 6:54Speaker 4: third in line. Hell, I mean, Arch may actually jump him.
- 6:57Speaker 4: If Arch wins on the road, just do it on
- 6:59Speaker 4: the road. If he wins this weekend, he jumps Cooper
- 7:02Speaker 4: in line for the Manning throne.
- 7:04Speaker 2: He's actually moving the goalposts. We moved the goalposts into
- 7:07Speaker 2: the Tennessee River this week.
- 7:09Speaker 4: And Tennessee wins. I mean, absolutely, bro. I like Texas here, dude.
- 7:15Speaker 4: Checker Neal in game. I think Arch is going to
- 7:17Speaker 4: show everybody. You can prove everybody wrong once again. I
- 7:20Speaker 4: think Texas goes the road. Young quarterback with Faison Brandon
- 7:22Speaker 4: for Tennessee. It's too big of an ask this early
- 7:25Speaker 4: in his career.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Give me the Longhorns.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Bear, are you suggesting that if Tennessee wins, they're going
- 7:30Speaker 1: to carry the goalposts into a rip?
- 7:31Speaker 3: What do you have? You have them being Vanderbilt?
- 7:33Speaker 2: I mean, they've been there before. When they finally beat
- 7:35Speaker 2: them a couple of years ago.
- 7:36Speaker 4: Well, they should be. I didn't realize.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Bear, I didn't realize that. And I got to be
- 7:42Speaker 1: honest with you. They should be ashamed of themselves for
- 7:44Speaker 1: doing that. Even a few years ago. I mean, that's
- 7:47Speaker 1: a terrible job.
- 7:48Speaker 3: You're one of the story.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Listen, Tennessee is a story just as storied over the
- 7:53Speaker 1: last 25 years.
- 7:55Speaker 3: As Texas, in terms– no?
- 7:58Speaker 4: Well, as Texas, but you're talking about carrying the goalposts
- 8:02Speaker 4: against Alabama. That was– look, Tennessee went through dark times, guys.
- 8:07Speaker 4: Like even in many ways darkened that of Texas. And
- 8:10Speaker 4: they haven't achieved the heights that Texas has achieved recently.
- 8:14Speaker 4: It's like, yeah, you spend post-Phil Fulmer basically 15 years
- 8:19Speaker 4: wandering the wilderness. And here comes Josh Heupel with his
- 8:22Speaker 4: adorable lisp promising to bring you back to the promised land.
- 8:27Speaker 4: And they've been on the edge of it. They've been
- 8:28Speaker 4: on the edge. They haven't quite got there. If they
- 8:31Speaker 4: get it done this weekend, though, yeah, I think the
- 8:32Speaker 4: goalposts come down.
- 8:34Speaker 1: And I'm just saying you're Tennessee. Act like you've been
- 8:36Speaker 1: there before because you have been there before.
- 8:37Speaker 3: That's all I'm saying. That's it.
- 8:39Speaker 4: I get it, Stu, but we live in a world
- 8:42Speaker 4: where Michigan just rushed a field against Western Michigan. God
- 8:47Speaker 4: is dead. Everything you held sacred is over.
- 8:53Speaker 3: Taylor, put it on the poll. Is God dead?
- 8:55Speaker 4: All right.
- 8:58Speaker 2: God been dead for 2,026 years.
- 9:00Speaker 4: Hey, look, he had a great run.
- 9:04Speaker 2: All right.
- 9:05Speaker 4: Okay, so I'm on Texas. Boyce picks here.
- 9:09Speaker 1: I think Bear, like, he's leading Tennessee here.
- 9:11Speaker 3: I'm not certain.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I like Texas here. I think Texas wins the game.
- 9:16Speaker 1: I think Arch actually does it on the road. I
- 9:18Speaker 1: like Texas' team. I think Texas is probably top to bottom,
- 9:22Speaker 1: certainly in the conversation for most talented team.
- 9:25Speaker 3: In the country.
- 9:26Speaker 1: And so I think Texas is going to win this game,
- 9:27Speaker 1: and I think they'll win it fairly easy on.
- 9:30Speaker 3: The road against Tennessee.
- 9:31Speaker 2: By the way, running back.
- 9:32Speaker 4: Yeah, that's big.
- 9:33Speaker 3: That's big.
- 9:35Speaker 4: Trying to take a little pressure. All right, let's keep
- 9:37Speaker 4: the Ranked on Rank going. And speaking of, hey, congrats,
- 9:40Speaker 4: you did it. Do it again and again and again
- 9:42Speaker 4: and again. Number four, Ole Miss hitting the road, heading
- 9:46Speaker 4: to the swamp, a suddenly resurgent Florida and Trinidad Chambliss, man. Okay,
- 9:51Speaker 4: Ole Miss right now, the only team with two ranked wins.
- 9:54Speaker 4: They beat Louisville. They beat LSU. Now is this game.
- 9:57Speaker 4: He's still got at Texas, home against Utah. at Oklahoma.
- 10:01Speaker 4: He's got an egg bowl mixed in there. Like, Chambliss
- 10:04Speaker 4: has a road in front of him, Bear, where if
- 10:07Speaker 4: he manages to get to the playoff through this gauntlet,
- 10:11Speaker 4: is he the best player in Ole Miss football history?
- 10:16Speaker 2: The king of the Manning family, but yes. I think
- 10:20Speaker 2: you're going to have to say he definitely is. I mean,
- 10:23Speaker 2: that dude is the most valuable player in college football.
- 10:27Speaker 2: You can say best, you can say most absolutely. He
- 10:31Speaker 2: is the most valuable player. The Louisville game, the last week,
- 10:36Speaker 2: no matter how much time's left on the clock, you
- 10:38Speaker 2: are always in it with that dude. And it's amazing
- 10:41Speaker 2: to think where he was last year at this point,
- 10:45Speaker 2: not even starting for the Rebels. But I want to
- 10:48Speaker 2: ask you, as a player in a situation like they
- 10:52Speaker 2: are in this week.
- 10:53Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 10:54Speaker 2: All of your eggs. They were in that emotional basket
- 10:57Speaker 2: last week.
- 10:58Speaker 3: We want to beat him.
- 10:59Speaker 2: You get that win sky high. And now you're on
- 11:05Speaker 2: the road, and everybody's asking me, Bear, well, why the
- 11:07Speaker 2: hell is Ole Miss an underdog at Florida? Because the
- 11:10Speaker 2: oddsmakers are baking it in that they know these are 19-,
- 11:15Speaker 2: 22-year-old kids that are going to have it. They're up
- 11:18Speaker 2: and down every week. You're not getting the same thing.
- 11:21Speaker 2: And the adjustment on Florida from oddsmakers, even like a
- 11:23Speaker 2: seven-point adjustment on the Gators so far, like, as a better,
- 11:28Speaker 2: as a handicapper, the only side I can play is Florida.
- 11:32Speaker 2: Am I crazy? We're thinking of that and that Ole
- 11:34Speaker 2: Miss is going to be completely flat here.
- 11:37Speaker 4: No, I mean, look, you're not, you're not crazy at all.
- 11:38Speaker 4: I think it's tough though, because I don't know if
- 11:41Speaker 4: like my player perspective adds much because the feeling you're
- 11:47Speaker 4: talking about is not something tangible, right? It's not something
- 11:52Speaker 4: where you're actively like, oh, we won that game. Now
- 11:54Speaker 4: I'll chill here or not. You still think you're locked
- 11:57Speaker 4: in after a big win like that. You still think
- 12:00Speaker 4: you're doing your process, but somewhere in your brain chemistry says,
- 12:05Speaker 4: Just something gets a bit off. That said, speaking of intangibles,
- 12:10Speaker 4: I mean, I.
- 12:10Speaker 3: Just love Trinidad Chambliss, dude.
- 12:13Speaker 4: He's a gamer. He's a gamer. Look at last season,
- 12:17Speaker 4: what he did game one against Georgia in Athens, where
- 12:19Speaker 4: they barely lose, but he's perfect for three quarters. Look
- 12:21Speaker 4: at what he did in the playoff. His highest graded
- 12:23Speaker 4: game of the entire season came in the rematch against Georgia.
- 12:27Speaker 4: I understand, Bayer, you're absolutely right. All the gambling elements,
- 12:31Speaker 4: why Vegas has Florida favored here, but I can't quit Chambliss.
- 12:37Speaker 4: Maybe I'm suffering from Stockholm syndrome. I like Trinette here. Stu,
- 12:41Speaker 4: name me the Florida Gator quarterback.
- 12:44Speaker 1: I have no idea, but I will tell you this.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Bear said earlier. These are 19, 20, 21-year-old kids. Trinidad
- 12:51Speaker 1: Chambliss is six days older than Drake May.
- 12:56Speaker 4: Interesting. Interesting. Yes. Interesting. Wait, wait. Did he get an
- 13:01Speaker 4: injunction in court to be able to play a sixth year? Okay.
- 13:04Speaker 3: Yeah, wow.
- 13:08Speaker 4: I thought we weren't about that.
- 13:09Speaker 3: It's like Indiana.
- 13:11Speaker 4: Indiana gets two players back this week because they got
- 13:14Speaker 4: their injunction. A guy who was third in TFLs in
- 13:17Speaker 4: the country last year and another with 35 starts.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Congrats, Indiana. Good for you. I think by the end
- 13:22Speaker 2: of the year, Stu Gatz is going to be the
- 13:24Speaker 2: NIL transfer portal pay-for-play commissioner. He's going to be the
- 13:28Speaker 2: one who motivates and dictates whether a player can come
- 13:30Speaker 2: back or not.
- 13:31Speaker 1: T-Bob, is it fair to say because Ole Miss beat LSU,
- 13:34Speaker 1: you went to LSU, you were very upset about the
- 13:36Speaker 1: outcome of that game, that you were rooting for Ole Miss,
- 13:39Speaker 1: bad things to happen to Ole Miss for the remainder
- 13:41Speaker 1: of the season?
- 13:41Speaker 4: Yes? Well, it's fair to say that I'm always rooting
- 13:46Speaker 4: for bad things to happen to Ole Miss. I mean,
- 13:49Speaker 4: 365 days a year, but also Florida.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Sure.
- 13:51Speaker 4: So this is like watching two enemies go toe-to-toe. Yes.
- 13:54Speaker 4: I hate Florida. That said... Ole Miss is way too
- 13:58Speaker 4: big for the Bridges right now. Yes, the fan in
- 14:00Speaker 4: me wants Ole Miss to lose and lose badly. Because
- 14:03Speaker 4: guess what, Stu? Just like that, Florida is back. Yes, boy.
- 14:10Speaker 4: Aaron Philo's their quarterback. Okay. He transfers to Georgia Tech.
- 14:13Speaker 4: Their OC, Buster Faulkner, is the name you got to know, dude.
- 14:17Speaker 4: Maybe the best OC in the country.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Okay.
- 14:19Speaker 4: He's the one that had Haynes King and Georgia Tech
- 14:21Speaker 4: roll in these last few years. He brings Philo over.
- 14:24Speaker 4: Philo's third in the SEC in passer rating. And then, Bear,
- 14:28Speaker 4: tell them about Jaden Ball. Maybe the best running back
- 14:31Speaker 4: in the country.
- 14:32Speaker 2: This dude and Nate Shepard, I'd be shocked if one
- 14:34Speaker 2: of them did not wind up winning the– The Doak
- 14:37Speaker 2: Walker is the best running back of the country. They
- 14:39Speaker 2: broke the bank to keep him in Florida. It was
- 14:41Speaker 2: a priority for the Gators to give John Summerall a
- 14:45Speaker 2: stone running back to go with Philo to get Buster.
- 14:49Speaker 2: A lot of tools to work with. This is a
- 14:51Speaker 2: really improved Florida team. And like you said, this is
- 14:55Speaker 2: the classic, the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
- 14:59Speaker 2: I think that's where you are with this one, my man.
- 15:01Speaker 4: I would agree. I would agree. Also, Stu, this is
- 15:04Speaker 4: a classic signature win opportunity for John Sumrall here immediately
- 15:09Speaker 4: in year one of Florida.
- 15:11Speaker 1: It'd be a very quick signature win for John Sumrall.
- 15:14Speaker 1: I like Mississippi here, though. I just think they're the
- 15:16Speaker 1: more talented team. I know everyone's trying the Gators three
- 15:19Speaker 1: and a half. I thought Brady Quinn, who was on
- 15:22Speaker 1: with us earlier this week, said something very interesting. The
- 15:24Speaker 1: idea that Mississippi, after beating LSU, is not the favorites
- 15:29Speaker 1: on the road against an unproven Florida team gives them
- 15:32Speaker 1: a chip on their shoulder. And I think the coach
- 15:34Speaker 1: could just easily say, hey, look, no one believes in
- 15:36Speaker 1: us even after we beat Lane Kiffin at LSU. And
- 15:39Speaker 1: I think that gives them an edge in this game.
- 15:41Speaker 3: I do.
- 15:42Speaker 4: Well, yeah, it's a good motivational tactic, right? You tell
- 15:44Speaker 4: the team, like, do you want to prove them right?
- 15:46Speaker 4: Everybody's saying like all you cared about was LSU and
- 15:48Speaker 4: you're going to fall flat if you're going to prove
- 15:50Speaker 4: them right. I expect a lot of points here. Obviously,
- 15:54Speaker 4: both offenses look great thus far. The element that is
- 15:58Speaker 4: tough for me to know how it's going to go
- 16:00Speaker 4: that could decide the game, the thing that I missed
- 16:03Speaker 4: in LSU Ole Miss was Ole Miss defensive line led
- 16:06Speaker 4: by Will Echols just completely dominated. That's a defensive lineman,
- 16:09Speaker 4: by the way, Stu. Maybe DT1.
- 16:11Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 16:11Speaker 4: Will Echols from Marketown.
- 16:13Speaker 3: Right.
- 16:13Speaker 4: But he dominated LSU. And it made the entire offense
- 16:17Speaker 4: not kind of work. Can he do the same thing
- 16:20Speaker 4: to a Florida O-line that has looked really good thus far?
- 16:23Speaker 4: I'm not sure. That said, it's Trinidad Chambliss.
- 16:27Speaker 3: I like Trinidad.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Taylor, Mikey, help me out here. I feel like these
- 16:30Speaker 1: two guys are trying to teach me as professors. I
- 16:32Speaker 1: feel like I'm in class right now. They're trying to
- 16:34Speaker 1: teach me about the sport of college football.
- 16:37Speaker 3: Do you guys feel the same?
- 16:39Speaker 2: Sit back and listen. Soak and take it all in.
- 16:43Speaker 2: I assume you're just going to copy off Taylor for
- 16:45Speaker 2: the test.
- 16:45Speaker 3: I am.
- 16:46Speaker 1: But, you know, T-Bob is telling me, he's like, hey,
- 16:48Speaker 1: you have to remember this name. It was the Florida OC,
- 16:51Speaker 1: and here we are four minutes later. I don't remember
- 16:53Speaker 1: that name, and I'm never going to remember that name,
- 16:55Speaker 1: and I don't care about that name.
- 16:56Speaker 2: It used to be in Georgia, and Georgia thought they
- 16:58Speaker 2: had it back a couple years ago. It stayed at
- 17:02Speaker 2: Georgia Tech.
- 17:02Speaker 3: Yes, go ahead, Taylor. Don't worry.
- 17:03Speaker 5: I've written down everything. Aaron Filo, Buster Faulkner, Jaden Baugh.
- 17:07Speaker 5: I'm writing down everything for Stu before he gets.
- 17:09Speaker 3: His bets in. Was Filo the name I was supposed
- 17:11Speaker 3: to remember?
- 17:11Speaker 5: No, that's the quarterback.
- 17:12Speaker 4: No, no.
- 17:13Speaker 3: God damn it.
- 17:13Speaker 4: No. Echols was the D-tackle, Buster Faulkner's the OC, and
- 17:23Speaker 4: Aaron Filos the quarterback.
- 17:25Speaker 3: How about Bears just tell me who to take this weekend?
- 17:26Speaker 3: I mean, that's it.
- 17:28Speaker 2: I'm taking Florida.
- 17:30Speaker 3: Get those Bears out.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Go Bears.
- 17:34Speaker 4: If you're a gambler, you take Florida, and you don't
- 17:37Speaker 4: think twice about it here. If maybe you like the narratives,
- 17:42Speaker 4: I think you'd probably fall on the shambles side of
- 17:44Speaker 4: the equation.
- 17:44Speaker 3: Okay.
- 17:45Speaker 4: All right.
- 17:46Speaker 2: All right.
- 17:46Speaker 4: How about this for a name, Stu? Do you know
- 17:48Speaker 4: the name Bryce Underwood?
- 17:50Speaker 3: The Michigan quarterback. I only know him from that Hail
- 17:54Speaker 3: Mary in week one. That's the only reason I know it.
- 17:56Speaker 1: They won a game they weren't supposed to win.
- 17:59Speaker 2: Yes. Taking place. Exactly.
- 18:28Speaker 4: Let's talk about a game that probably could not feature
- 18:33Speaker 4: more elements that Stu's going to be like, wow, look
- 18:35Speaker 4: at that. Number 17, Iowa. Hitting the road to head
- 18:41Speaker 4: to Michigan. It's a 17-18 rank-to-rank battle. It's 3-30 CBS, guys.
- 18:46Speaker 4: We're going to get a little ba-ba-da-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba. I cannot wait.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Thinking about, like, taking me back to, like, Brent on
- 18:53Speaker 2: the call, 1985.
- 18:54Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:55Speaker 2: One versus two Rob Houtland, the late field goal to
- 18:59Speaker 2: win 12, 10 could be that type of game on
- 19:03Speaker 2: Saturday to, uh, Iowa's offense, man. I can't get there
- 19:08Speaker 2: at all. Uh, with, with, with the Hawkeyes offense, just
- 19:12Speaker 2: really struggled against Iowa state. The only real team that
- 19:15Speaker 2: they played so far, uh.
- 19:18Speaker 4: So it does nothing for you that they put up
- 19:21Speaker 4: 40 against Northern Illinois and 55 against Northern Iowa?
- 19:23Speaker 3: No, no, no.
- 19:25Speaker 2: That is Michigan's offense. Their D played really well against Oklahoma. Now,
- 19:32Speaker 2: Oklahoma's offense might be shit, too.
- 19:33Speaker 3: Who knows?
- 19:34Speaker 2: But, yeah. I can't see Iowa mustering up a whole
- 19:38Speaker 2: lot of points here.
- 19:39Speaker 3: Bear, can I just say this?
- 19:40Speaker 1: That CBS three 30 game used to be Alabama and Auburn.
- 19:46Speaker 3: It's Iowa, Michigan.
- 19:47Speaker 2: I mean, okay.
- 19:49Speaker 4: Okay. But look, as even though I hail from the
- 19:51Speaker 4: lands of the sec, like I'll defend this as one
- 19:55Speaker 4: of the good three 30, big 10 games.
- 19:58Speaker 3: Okay.
- 19:59Speaker 4: I mean, there's a lot of weeks where we get
- 20:01Speaker 4: fucking like Ohio state Rutgers. Okay. Yes. There's been there.
- 20:05Speaker 4: There's been, there's been way worse in this slot. This
- 20:08Speaker 4: is look, if you like, play in the trenches. You
- 20:12Speaker 4: like big boy, old school football. Let's run it first,
- 20:17Speaker 4: beat the other team, grind them into the ground. That's
- 20:19Speaker 4: what you're going to get here. I think it's a
- 20:21Speaker 4: lot of, I'm glad you mentioned Oklahoma bear. Cause kind
- 20:24Speaker 4: of a lot of similarities to Oklahoma, Michigan in a
- 20:27Speaker 4: lot of ways. And, and when you compare the two,
- 20:30Speaker 4: that's my biggest question mark. Okay. Why Oklahoma struggled, they
- 20:34Speaker 4: could not run the ball, meaning they had to try
- 20:36Speaker 4: to throw it. And bottom line, the Michigan defense is
- 20:39Speaker 4: too elite. The Oklahoma receivers could not separate. Iowa's receivers
- 20:43Speaker 4: will not be able to separate. But Bear, can Iowa
- 20:47Speaker 4: run the ball against this Michigan front? A way better
- 20:49Speaker 4: O-line at Iowa than Oklahoma. Correct.
- 20:54Speaker 2: I don't think so. I have such little faith. This
- 20:59Speaker 2: is like the classic– you look at Kyle and you
- 21:03Speaker 2: look at Kirk Ferentz. This is going to be like
- 21:05Speaker 2: fourth and three from the plus 41, and they're going
- 21:08Speaker 2: to punt. It's what we are. This is classic field position,
- 21:13Speaker 2: punt the football type game. I don't think– they may
- 21:16Speaker 2: have some success running, but I don't think it's going
- 21:19Speaker 2: to be enough. But if I'm wrong, and I'm wrong
- 21:21Speaker 2: a hell of a lot, and they do have success
- 21:23Speaker 2: and they go in there and get a win– Like,
- 21:25Speaker 2: you look at Michigan's upcoming schedule. They go to Minnesota
- 21:28Speaker 2: next week. They got Penn State and Indiana. They could
- 21:31Speaker 2: be sitting three and four before they head to the
- 21:34Speaker 2: banks of the Raritan and the State University of New Jersey. Like,
- 21:37Speaker 2: it's a big game for Michigan because the narrative and
- 21:40Speaker 2: the momentum that they have from beating Oklahoma and that
- 21:43Speaker 2: comeback could really be flipped pretty quickly if they drop
- 21:47Speaker 2: one at home on tomorrow.
- 21:48Speaker 4: It's funny, Barry. You mentioned Michigan. I think this is
- 21:51Speaker 4: sort of a– a bit of a playoff trampoline for Iowa.
- 21:56Speaker 4: I can't get over how their schedule breaks. They're at
- 21:59Speaker 4: Michigan versus Ohio State at Washington. All brutal. No doubt.
- 22:03Speaker 4: But then it's Minnesota, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Purdue, Illinois, Nebraska. They'll
- 22:08Speaker 4: be favored in every single one of those games. If
- 22:11Speaker 4: they go 2-1, which would have to start with beating
- 22:15Speaker 4: Michigan because I don't think they're going to get Ohio State.
- 22:17Speaker 4: If they go 2-1 here, they could drop a game
- 22:20Speaker 4: down the stretch. They'll end 10-2. Stu, we could be
- 22:24Speaker 4: talking about Kirk Ferentz in the playoffs. It's something that
- 22:27Speaker 4: I just never thought we would get to, but it
- 22:29Speaker 4: starts Saturday in the big house. Mikey, why are you
- 22:30Speaker 4: shaking your head?
- 22:31Speaker 3: Well, because he knows the playoffs is electric. Yeah, he knows.
- 22:34Speaker 2: No, we don't want that.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Yeah, we don't want that, and we don't want to
- 22:36Speaker 1: be talking about it.
- 22:37Speaker 3: You are crazy.
- 22:40Speaker 2: This is the type of team that all you people
- 22:45Speaker 2: out there that want to expand the playoffs to 24,
- 22:48Speaker 2: this is what we're talking about. Like last year, we
- 22:50Speaker 2: would have been talking about Arizona and Georgia Tech and
- 22:53Speaker 2: Virginia being in the playoffs.
- 22:55Speaker 4: Right.
- 22:56Speaker 2: I thought four was good, but yeah, I get it.
- 22:59Speaker 2: Too few. 12 feels right. 16 is like a little
- 23:04Speaker 2: bit of a stretch. But 24 is just a participation.
- 23:09Speaker 4: Also, to defend Kirk Ferentz in the playoff, okay. Kirk
- 23:14Speaker 4: Ferentz in the playoff is a delicious cigarette with a
- 23:18Speaker 4: domestic light beer on a Saturday night, okay? It's old school.
- 23:23Speaker 4: It's Americana, okay? You all out there with your nicotine
- 23:27Speaker 4: pouches and your newfangled vapes, all you high schoolers sitting
- 23:32Speaker 4: there blowing clouds inside because you can smoke inside because
- 23:35Speaker 4: it doesn't smell somehow good. Kirk Ferentz is a classic
- 23:38Speaker 4: Saturday night heater, so I don't want to hear any
- 23:41Speaker 4: disrespect on Kirk in the playoffs.
- 23:43Speaker 2: Get out of here.
- 23:45Speaker 4: Yes, hell yes, Bear. That's what I'm talking about.
- 23:47Speaker 5: T-Bob, I'm having the same reserves, though, as Stu got
- 23:50Speaker 5: to Mikey, where... The eye test. Close your eyes and
- 23:53Speaker 5: picture Kirk Ferentz in the playoffs?
- 23:55Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 23:55Speaker 3: I can't.
- 23:56Speaker 4: I can't see it.
- 23:57Speaker 5: I can't see it because I don't want.
- 23:58Speaker 4: To see it.
- 23:59Speaker 3: It's awesome. Listen, you close your eyes watching.
- 24:01Speaker 1: You couldn't see Carl Anthony Towns hoisting up the Larry
- 24:03Speaker 1: O'Brien trophy.
- 24:04Speaker 5: Yeah, I was 0 for 1.
- 24:05Speaker 3: As a new fan.
- 24:07Speaker 1: I don't even want to close my eyes and think
- 24:08Speaker 1: about it. That's how terrified I am of Kirk Ferentz
- 24:11Speaker 1: in Iowa. In fact, I'll make the commitment on behalf
- 24:13Speaker 1: of me, Taylor, and Mikey A., If Iowa makes the playoffs,
- 24:17Speaker 1: I will not watch Iowa's game.
- 24:18Speaker 3: How about that? I don't want anything to do with it.
- 24:21Speaker 5: Don't want me in that group because I'm going to
- 24:23Speaker 5: watch that game.
- 24:24Speaker 3: I will too.
- 24:27Speaker 4: To be fair, though, I'm going Michigan here. If it
- 24:29Speaker 4: was in Iowa, I'd choose Iowa. But Hank Brown, Iowa's quarterback,
- 24:34Speaker 4: he's got a little moxie to him. I think it's
- 24:36Speaker 4: just too big of an ask. To go on the
- 24:38Speaker 4: road against this Michigan defense, against a Kyle Whittingham team
- 24:42Speaker 4: that I'm kind of banking on ascending and getting better
- 24:45Speaker 4: each week.
- 24:46Speaker 2: They escaped early.
- 24:47Speaker 4: Give me the Wolverines in a tight one here.
- 24:49Speaker 2: Bear? I like Michigan. I like the Michigan wins. Because, like,
- 24:54Speaker 2: I always kind of joke around all the time. All those, like,
- 24:58Speaker 2: dogs with fleas. It feels like Iowa is a bit
- 25:01Speaker 2: of a dog with fleas. A lot of people attracted
- 25:03Speaker 2: to Iowa, and that number has come down a little bit.
- 25:06Speaker 2: I think we might be able to get a little
- 25:07Speaker 2: bit of a discount on the Wolverines.
- 25:10Speaker 4: All right. Let's head to my favorite game. I might
- 25:14Speaker 4: be too close to the case, Stu, if you were
- 25:16Speaker 4: the police chief. You might have to call me in.
- 25:19Speaker 4: Give me your gun and badge. You're off this one.
- 25:22Speaker 4: It's Texas A & M. Against LSU, 23 versus number 10. Right. Interesting.
- 25:28Speaker 4: A & M loses to Kentucky. They plummet. LSU loses
- 25:31Speaker 4: to Ole Miss. They don't really fall that much. Make
- 25:33Speaker 4: no mistake. This is a battle for playoff survival. It's
- 25:38Speaker 4: functionally an elimination game. And it's a couple of quarterbacks
- 25:42Speaker 4: that have been pretty woefully disappointing thus far, I would say,
- 25:46Speaker 4: Bear and Sam Leavitt and Marcel Reed.
- 25:48Speaker 2: No, they haven't. And A & M is a team
- 25:50Speaker 2: that I was under on their season win total. I
- 25:54Speaker 2: was actually under on LSU season when told I probably
- 25:56Speaker 2: shouldn't tell you that anyway.
- 25:57Speaker 3: Piece of shit.
- 26:01Speaker 2: A & M, they lost everything up front on both
- 26:05Speaker 2: sides of the ball, and it looks it. Marcel Reed
- 26:08Speaker 2: is struggling throwing the ball downfield. He's got injuries now
- 26:13Speaker 2: at wide receiver to deal with. Like, how– If A &
- 26:16Speaker 2: M goes in there and wins and beats LSU for
- 26:20Speaker 2: the third straight year after nearly hanging a 50-burger up
- 26:23Speaker 2: there at Tiger Stadium last year, like how ugly is
- 26:26Speaker 2: it going to get down there?
- 26:27Speaker 3: Marcel can't read a defense. I mean, that's the problem. Well,
- 26:31Speaker 3: he can.
- 26:32Speaker 1: Listen, I want to ask you a question, T-Bob. I'm
- 26:34Speaker 1: serious about this. If Lane Kiffin were to lose this
- 26:36Speaker 1: game to a desperate– both teams are desperate. I do
- 26:39Speaker 1: like this about the regular season. Now you have these
- 26:41Speaker 1: de facto playoff games kind of early on.
- 26:44Speaker 3: In the season.
- 26:44Speaker 1: But if Lane Kiffin loses this game at home, they're
- 26:48Speaker 1: accepting that LSU lost.
- 26:50Speaker 3: To Mississippi at Mississippi. It was a good game. It
- 26:52Speaker 3: was a tough game. They lose.
- 26:54Speaker 1: They follow that up with a loss at home to
- 26:56Speaker 1: Texas A & M. What is going to be the
- 26:59Speaker 1: reaction from the fans towards Lane Kiffin?
- 27:02Speaker 4: Well, it's a disaster both locally and nationally, right? Because nationally,
- 27:06Speaker 4: the narrative has become post-Ole Miss. Everybody looking at Lane
- 27:09Speaker 4: Kiffin's big game record and saying, oh, well, you know,
- 27:12Speaker 4: can he win the big game? I personally don't put
- 27:16Speaker 4: much stock into that. I think it's a bit contextual about, like,
- 27:19Speaker 4: where he's been, the team he's been bringing into those
- 27:22Speaker 4: games versus the one he's been facing. I can explain
- 27:24Speaker 4: away all that. But if he loses this weekend, where
- 27:27Speaker 4: you appear to have the better team on paper, and
- 27:30Speaker 4: you're not at a disadvantage, and you're at home, and
- 27:33Speaker 4: Marcel Reeds looks so bad, yeah, it's a disaster nationally
- 27:36Speaker 4: because everybody's going to say, told you so, can't win
- 27:37Speaker 4: the big game. And locally, you're like, well, what did
- 27:39Speaker 4: we do this all for? I mean, LSU's come out
- 27:42Speaker 4: and said that they're going to, I think, report like
- 27:44Speaker 4: a $ 26 million deficit in athletics this year because they
- 27:47Speaker 4: spent $ 100 million changing over the coaching staff to put
- 27:51Speaker 4: $ 45 million into the roster. We live in a day
- 27:54Speaker 4: and age where Kurt Cignetti showed up in Indiana and
- 27:57Speaker 4: won immediately. The patience that coaches used to be afforded,
- 28:02Speaker 4: that's a relic of the past. So make no mistake, Stu,
- 28:06Speaker 4: I'm doing it. This is the first must win of
- 28:11Speaker 4: the Lane Kiffin era. It's a must win, guys. It's
- 28:16Speaker 4: a must win.
- 28:17Speaker 3: Here early on.
- 28:17Speaker 4: And I don't think it's that for Elko. Don't get
- 28:20Speaker 4: me wrong. A & M will be frustrated to all hell.
- 28:24Speaker 4: They'll be super angry. Last year could not have ended
- 28:27Speaker 4: worse for how well it went. Yeah, they make the playoff,
- 28:30Speaker 4: but it comes to the context of losing to Texas,
- 28:33Speaker 4: losing the playoff immediately. Just an uber bad finish to
- 28:36Speaker 4: the season there. It'll be bad, but not nearly as
- 28:39Speaker 4: bad as it would be for LSU here.
- 28:41Speaker 3: Agreed, yes.
- 28:42Speaker 4: Bear, you love LSU here. To cover the big number,
- 28:45Speaker 4: was it nine and a half?
- 28:47Speaker 2: Up to nine and a half.
- 28:48Speaker 3: I know.
- 28:48Speaker 2: I gave it out at eight and a half on
- 28:51Speaker 2: my show. Since then, we've seen movement. I hate laying
- 28:55Speaker 2: the bigger number, but all the reasons that T-Bob just mentioned,
- 28:59Speaker 2: it's one of those circle the wagons, use a poor pun.
- 29:03Speaker 2: play on words there yes i just think he was
- 29:06Speaker 2: better i don't trust the a & m offense right
- 29:08Speaker 2: now to do much that was a very deceiving final
- 29:11Speaker 2: a couple of weeks ago against arizona state as well
- 29:14Speaker 2: they very easily could have that game uh in addition
- 29:17Speaker 2: to getting upset it's a big favorite by kentucky last
- 29:20Speaker 2: week yeah i don't i think this is a uh
- 29:24Speaker 2: a game where lane kind of show. Sky's not falling
- 29:29Speaker 2: just yet. We still got a good team, but Levin
- 29:33Speaker 2: has got to be better than what he's been, that's
- 29:35Speaker 2: for sure.
- 29:35Speaker 1: I don't like doing the show with you guys because
- 29:37Speaker 1: I liked Texas A & M before we got started,
- 29:39Speaker 1: and now I'm questioning everything.
- 29:40Speaker 3: And so now I don't know what to do.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Because when Bear tells me to take something, I take something.
- 29:44Speaker 2: I mean.
- 29:46Speaker 4: The problem with A & M is all of, you know,
- 29:50Speaker 4: sometimes you have preseason questions about a program and they
- 29:53Speaker 4: immediately answer them. You're like, okay, well, we were wrong
- 29:55Speaker 4: to worry. Right. All the questions about A & M,
- 29:58Speaker 4: like Bear alluded to, were, They replaced both. I mean,
- 30:00Speaker 4: I think all five offensive linemen went to the NFL.
- 30:03Speaker 4: Like all five across the board, right? They lose their
- 30:05Speaker 4: entire D-line. And then you look at Marcel Reed's play
- 30:09Speaker 4: at the end of the year. Teams are rushing three,
- 30:14Speaker 4: rushing four, dropping his own coverage, rushing disciplined and saying, Marcel,
- 30:18Speaker 4: you have to beat us attacking downfield with your arm.
- 30:22Speaker 4: He could not do it. You would have hoped that
- 30:24Speaker 4: he would have proven the offseason. He did not. The
- 30:27Speaker 4: lines are worse. So all the preseason fears are coming
- 30:31Speaker 4: to fruition for A & M right now. I like
- 30:33Speaker 4: the Tigers. I can't touch the spread just because, like,
- 30:35Speaker 4: I have too much PTSD in this game. But for
- 30:40Speaker 4: my mental sanity and my family's safety, I hope that
- 30:44Speaker 4: LSU gets it done Saturday night.
- 30:46Speaker 3: We'll see.
- 30:48Speaker 4: All right, next game on the list. Let's stick on
- 30:50Speaker 4: the ranked. Unranked, guys.
- 30:51Speaker 3: What do we got?
- 30:51Speaker 4: Let's head back to... The Pac-12, but now it's actually
- 30:57Speaker 4: the Big Ten. Classic battle here. Number 20 Oregon heading
- 31:02Speaker 4: to the Coliseum, taking on USC. Bear, huge opportunity for, oh,
- 31:10Speaker 4: my God, Lincoln Riley to finally get his first signature win. Yes.
- 31:15Speaker 4: But also a desperate opportunity for Dan Lanning to kind
- 31:18Speaker 4: of stabilize here.
- 31:19Speaker 2: Sounds like Stu wants to jump in here. He's, like,
- 31:22Speaker 2: getting excited over here.
- 31:23Speaker 1: Well, no, for me, this is a battle of two
- 31:25Speaker 1: of the most overrated coaches in the country. I am
- 31:27Speaker 1: tired of Dan Lanning. I am tired of him losing
- 31:29Speaker 1: games he's supposed to win.
- 31:31Speaker 4: I am tired of everyone.
- 31:36Speaker 1: You have a quarterback like that. You should win every game.
- 31:38Speaker 1: I am tired of Lincoln Riley. I am tired of
- 31:41Speaker 1: everyone telling me what a great coach Lincoln Riley, who's
- 31:43Speaker 1: never been to a playoff by the way, but everyone
- 31:46Speaker 1: telling me what a great coach Lincoln Riley is. I
- 31:48Speaker 1: have neither of these teams making it to the playoffs.
- 31:51Speaker 1: And if neither of them make it and Iowa makes it, God,
- 31:54Speaker 1: are we in.
- 31:54Speaker 3: For a bad playoff? This is lousy.
- 31:58Speaker 2: Now we have reason to root for USC-Iowa first-round college
- 32:03Speaker 2: football playoff. Maybe we can do a remote pod from there.
- 32:09Speaker 1: Listen, I know you're friends with Lanning. I'm not friends
- 32:11Speaker 1: with any of these coaches, okay? I'm just asking you,
- 32:13Speaker 1: who is the more overrated coach? Is it Dan Lanning
- 32:16Speaker 1: or is it Lincoln Riley?
- 32:17Speaker 3: How about that?
- 32:18Speaker 4: Oh, I don't even think it's close that it's Lincoln Riley. Right.
- 32:22Speaker 2: Five and 15 in his last 20 against ranked teams.
- 32:26Speaker 2: You don't think that's good.
- 32:27Speaker 4: Yeah. I mean, it's, it's crazy. I think, I think Stu,
- 32:30Speaker 4: I think what you're giving voice to is a real
- 32:33Speaker 4: thought amongst the kind of college football fan public, but
- 32:37Speaker 4: I think it's super unfair to Dan Lanning. I mean,
- 32:40Speaker 4: Dan Lane, if you look at his time at Oregon.
- 32:42Speaker 2: He won the Big Ten a couple years ago. He
- 32:43Speaker 2: was number one in going into the college football playoff,
- 32:46Speaker 2: and they happened to freaking draw Ohio State, who was
- 32:49Speaker 2: the most talented team in the country.
- 32:51Speaker 4: So undefeated, won the Big Ten like Bear talked about.
- 32:54Speaker 4: Last year, they won a playoff game, so there's improvement there.
- 32:57Speaker 4: Before this Oklahoma State game, the last three years, they
- 33:01Speaker 4: were 37-0 against teams that didn't play for the national championship. So, like,
- 33:06Speaker 4: the landing big game thing is way off base. What's
- 33:09Speaker 4: maybe not off base– is the only question with Oregon
- 33:12Speaker 4: was they lost their D.C. Lapoi to Cal, and then
- 33:16Speaker 4: they lost Will Stein to Kentucky. And both Cal, but
- 33:19Speaker 4: especially Kentucky, look much, much better now. And Oregon's offense, Bear,
- 33:24Speaker 4: looks completely lost. The most disappointing position group in the
- 33:27Speaker 4: country right now is either the Oregon D-line or O-line.
- 33:30Speaker 4: I mean, is there hope for you for Dante Moore
- 33:33Speaker 4: this season, given that so much of this feels almost
- 33:36Speaker 4: like an NFL Ben Johnson leaves Dan Campbell situation? With
- 33:40Speaker 4: Will Stein taking off and the offense just falling flat
- 33:43Speaker 4: on their face.
- 33:44Speaker 2: Got that feeling. Maybe last week was Portland State and
- 33:48Speaker 2: it was what it was. But there's certainly a feeling
- 33:51Speaker 2: that that offense was a little bit different last week
- 33:54Speaker 2: and maybe they turn a quarter this week. I don't know.
- 33:59Speaker 2: I have concerns about Oregon going on the road. They
- 34:02Speaker 2: just defensively, they look like they have problems, especially in
- 34:06Speaker 2: the secondary and the safety positions with Keenum in them.
- 34:09Speaker 2: being gone now. I know we're talking about Oregon and Atlanta.
- 34:14Speaker 2: I think this is an absolute must, gotta have win
- 34:18Speaker 2: for Lincoln Riley and SC. I don't want to hear
- 34:20Speaker 2: about it anymore. Year five, this is the year, playoff,
- 34:24Speaker 2: watch out for SC, the way they're recruiting.
- 34:27Speaker 3: Win this game.
- 34:31Speaker 2: If you don't win, I don't want to hear about
- 34:32Speaker 2: you ever again. Because it's a situation where You've got
- 34:36Speaker 2: a downtrodden Oregon team in the Coliseum. You're a slight
- 34:41Speaker 2: home underdog. You've got a quarterback in Jada Maiava who's
- 34:45Speaker 2: going to be drafted to the next level. You've got
- 34:47Speaker 2: all this young talent. Win the game.
- 34:49Speaker 3: Go out and win the game.
- 34:51Speaker 4: Yeah, I love that. Young talent is the element of
- 34:55Speaker 4: this that kind of throws me for a loop. Because
- 34:56Speaker 4: you're right, Jada Maiava's been awesome. He's been way better
- 34:58Speaker 4: than Dante Moore this season. He was great last year. Right.
- 35:01Speaker 4: But USC had all the skilled positions, Stu. Stu, how
- 35:03Speaker 4: do you feel about hard-bodied 18-year-olds?
- 35:07Speaker 3: Why are you butting me? Careful. Careful with your answer.
- 35:11Speaker 4: It's a quake because that's in play here, USC.
- 35:15Speaker 3: Yes, I would be very careful with my answer.
- 35:17Speaker 1: Is it a bit harsh for Bear to say if
- 35:19Speaker 1: Lincoln Riley doesn't win this game, he never wants to
- 35:22Speaker 1: hear about him again for the remainder of time?
- 35:25Speaker 4: No.
- 35:26Speaker 2: No, that's fair.
- 35:26Speaker 4: No, I mean, it's fair to bear's point. It's been
- 35:29Speaker 4: five years, guys. There's no signature win. We talked about
- 35:32Speaker 4: John Summerall, maybe catching his first signature win here. Half
- 35:35Speaker 4: a season in. Yeah. Like Lincoln's been there at a
- 35:37Speaker 4: certain point. They have to show up. I just don't
- 35:40Speaker 4: know when you're talking hard bodied, 18 year olds, when
- 35:44Speaker 4: you're starting freshman at important positions, that comes with a
- 35:47Speaker 4: level of volatility. Yeah. That is tough to predict. Yes.
- 35:52Speaker 4: Cause if they like get confidence early in a game,
- 35:54Speaker 4: They can way exceed expectation. Right. The opposite is true.
- 35:58Speaker 3: Yes.
- 35:59Speaker 2: Charlie, I'm a title for the first episode, by the way.
- 36:05Speaker 3: You want that to be the title? Yes. Mikey is
- 36:08Speaker 3: shaking you off. He thinks it's a terrible idea.
- 36:12Speaker 2: We want people to download the show to start, maybe
- 36:15Speaker 2: like eight episodes in when we have an audience.
- 36:18Speaker 4: Yes.
- 36:18Speaker 3: Then we can name it that.
- 36:19Speaker 4: I don't know, dude.
- 36:20Speaker 2: I think.
- 36:21Speaker 1: I do have both these teams and coaches making it
- 36:23Speaker 1: to the playoffs, Lanning and the USC coach.
- 36:26Speaker 3: What's his name?
- 36:27Speaker 4: Lincoln Riley.
- 36:29Speaker 3: Yeah, you guys are the experts. I'm not.
- 36:31Speaker 1: Bear said he never wanted to hear his name again.
- 36:33Speaker 1: They're just going to have to purchase tickets the way
- 36:34Speaker 1: you and I would go.
- 36:35Speaker 3: To the playoffs, okay?
- 36:36Speaker 1: I don't think either of them are making it.
- 36:40Speaker 3: I don't. Either team.
- 36:42Speaker 4: Also, Mikey, I don't want to tell you to do
- 36:44Speaker 4: your job, but, like, if you look at Internet traffic,
- 36:48Speaker 4: I think hard-pottied 18-year-olds play pretty well. I'm just saying.
- 36:51Speaker 4: We're just looking for downloads.
- 36:52Speaker 3: Dangerous game.
- 36:54Speaker 4: All right.
- 36:54Speaker 2: We have corporate sponsors.
- 36:57Speaker 4: Next game on the list.
- 36:59Speaker 3: Thank you, Mike.
- 37:21Speaker 4: That's game on the list here. Another theme that we're
- 37:26Speaker 4: seeing this week, a desperate team, everything on the line
- 37:30Speaker 4: due to an early loss, Oklahoma heading to Athens against Georgia.
- 37:35Speaker 4: Georgia's look perfect. They haven't played anyone. Oklahoma has been anything, but,
- 37:40Speaker 4: but they gotta have it.
- 37:42Speaker 2: Bear.
- 37:43Speaker 4: I'm, I kind of think Georgia rolls here, dude.
- 37:47Speaker 2: I'm not sure. I like, I don't think Oklahoma's very
- 37:51Speaker 2: good at all, certainly on the offensive side of the ball,
- 37:54Speaker 2: but I think defensively, they've still got a lot of
- 37:57Speaker 2: pride in the Venables defense. Somehow, I hear Stone is
- 38:01Speaker 2: supposedly going to play, which it sounded like he was
- 38:05Speaker 2: going to be gone for a while. I think that defense,
- 38:10Speaker 2: I talked about off the top how last year at
- 38:12Speaker 2: this time, we didn't know anything with all those teams
- 38:15Speaker 2: in the top 10 ultimately falling out. Like, We just
- 38:18Speaker 2: don't know. Georgia, we think, is really good. We think
- 38:21Speaker 2: is really talented. I think they could be the most
- 38:23Speaker 2: talented team in the country. But they played nobody. They
- 38:26Speaker 2: played an FCS team. They played Western Kentucky and the
- 38:29Speaker 2: worst team in the SEC. This is going to be
- 38:32Speaker 2: a big challenge, I think, defensively, offensively for them tomorrow
- 38:36Speaker 2: night going against OU. Would not surprise me at all
- 38:40Speaker 2: to see OU kind of hang around here.
- 38:43Speaker 4: I think OU... hangs around early, but I think Georgia
- 38:49Speaker 4: overwhelms late.
- 38:51Speaker 2: So you're right.
- 38:51Speaker 4: They haven't played anybody, but they have been perfect in
- 38:55Speaker 4: not playing anybody, right? And I feel you, if it
- 38:59Speaker 4: was almost any other program, I mean, Oklahoma's defense, as
- 39:01Speaker 4: you said, they're the wild card in this game, okay?
- 39:04Speaker 4: They're first in the country in terms of pressure rate,
- 39:06Speaker 4: nearly 50% of dropbacks. They're speeding up the quarterback. They're
- 39:10Speaker 4: 10th in yards per play. They're 5th and 3rd downs.
- 39:13Speaker 4: So Oklahoma's defense remains elite. However, it's the Kirby smart factor.
- 39:18Speaker 4: If we're using past events as an indicator of what's
- 39:24Speaker 4: going to happen in the future, Kirby's teams are nothing
- 39:27Speaker 4: if not consistent. They're so disciplined. They're so solid. And
- 39:31Speaker 4: I just can't see a world. Like sometimes you can
- 39:34Speaker 4: boil college football down to quarterback on quarterback. Really, maybe
- 39:37Speaker 4: even all of football sometimes. John Mateer, Gunnar Stockton. Mateer,
- 39:43Speaker 4: the picture of inconsistency. Stockton, the complete opposite. I can't
- 39:48Speaker 4: get there with OU.
- 39:49Speaker 2: Did you see that meme a couple of weeks ago
- 39:52Speaker 2: on Twitter about Mateer? I think it was after the
- 39:57Speaker 2: Michigan game. It was like building the worst quarterback and
- 40:00Speaker 2: it was like pointing out all of these Mateer. That
- 40:03Speaker 2: was unbelievable for a guy who came in so ballyhooed
- 40:07Speaker 2: last year as a transfer portal guy.
- 40:11Speaker 4: Stu, did you see Mateer after the game on how
- 40:14Speaker 4: he found one of the touchdowns? last week in their 14,
- 40:17Speaker 4: seven win over New Mexico.
- 40:18Speaker 3: No, I'm just finding out who material is, but anyway,
- 40:20Speaker 3: tell me about it.
- 40:22Speaker 4: Uh, he, he legit in his postgame interview at a
- 40:26Speaker 4: time when Oklahoma fans sanity is in a very precarious spot, right?
- 40:32Speaker 4: They asked him how he spotted this long touchdown. And
- 40:34Speaker 4: he said that, uh, He said the crowd let him know. Like,
- 40:38Speaker 4: I guess the safety drove down on a play action,
- 40:40Speaker 4: and he literally said, I didn't see it. I heard
- 40:44Speaker 4: the crowd cheering, and I looked up, and I was like, oh, shit,
- 40:48Speaker 4: there it is. And he threw the ball. Like, brother.
- 40:52Speaker 4: That ain't going to get it done against the Georgia
- 40:54Speaker 4: Bulldogs in Athens.
- 40:55Speaker 1: I know Bear has to run here, and I love
- 40:57Speaker 1: you guys. But I do want to talk about what
- 41:00Speaker 1: I believe to be the biggest college football story of
- 41:03Speaker 1: the week. You guys love ball, man. You really do.
- 41:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 41:08Speaker 1: I don't think you guys love anything more in your
- 41:10Speaker 1: lives than college football.
- 41:12Speaker 4: No.
- 41:12Speaker 3: And I'm including your family, T-Bob. Well, you. Well, thank you.
- 41:17Speaker 3: But how do you guys feel?
- 41:18Speaker 1: Was it Bear Bachmeier, the quarterback from BYU, Taylor?
- 41:23Speaker 3: Yeah. How do you feel about eating dinner with your
- 41:25Speaker 3: family naked? What do you guys think?
- 41:28Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah. So the context here is RG3 on the
- 41:30Speaker 4: broadcast last week, just going into like a classic Uncle
- 41:34Speaker 4: Vern anecdote, you know, the things that we all love.
- 41:36Speaker 4: You give a little character. He just starts talking about
- 41:39Speaker 4: how he claims they show Bear Bachmeier's mom in the stands,
- 41:43Speaker 4: and they claim– that his family, sometimes at family dinner,
- 41:47Speaker 4: just gets naked. Like, RGT provides no context, no follow-up.
- 41:51Speaker 3: Right.
- 41:52Speaker 4: It's a very odd interaction. Yes. And now the entire country,
- 41:55Speaker 4: they just eat naked together.
- 41:56Speaker 2: Well, your mom's the first person in the world who
- 42:00Speaker 2: sees you naked, right? So, I mean, what's the big deal?
- 42:03Speaker 4: There.
- 42:04Speaker 1: But I feel like if I walked into your house, T-Bob,
- 42:08Speaker 1: on any given night, that potentially I would see you
- 42:10Speaker 1: and your entire family eating naked.
- 42:12Speaker 3: Is that fair?
- 42:13Speaker 4: I mean... So this is where I think it is
- 42:15Speaker 4: weird because we are a naked family, okay? I grew
- 42:19Speaker 4: up with the cannon swinging me very in front of
- 42:22Speaker 4: us 24-7. I'd wake up and look out my room
- 42:26Speaker 4: and he'd just be dangling and swangling, walking past the door.
- 42:30Speaker 4: So he never cared. But we never ate dinner naked together, dude.
- 42:33Speaker 4: We just didn't do it. I think this seems insane. Like,
- 42:35Speaker 4: I can't believe this is true. But Bear Bachmeier still
- 42:39Speaker 4: has not addressed it publicly.
- 42:40Speaker 3: No, it's Bear Ass Bachmeier.
