- 0:00You have arrived. Welcome to the Aspy world.

- 0:07an upbeat and informative way. And now here's your man on the
- 0:11spectrum, your autism ambassador, Daniel Morgan Jones.
- 0:19Did you know that there are more autistic females in the world
- 0:22than autistic men? Yet there are more autistic men
- 0:24diagnosed than autistic females? In this video, I'm going to talk
- 0:27about why autism looks different and presents different in
- 0:29females versus males. All that right now is coming up.
- 0:33Don't go anywhere. See what's going on, guys.
- 0:34My name is Dan. I have autism, ADHDOCD and
- 0:37dyslexia and I make weekly videos all about this stuff.

- 0:51My hair is crazy, man. So what is it about autistic
- 0:55females? That is an answer.
- 0:58There is information about it and I I'm going to present that
- 1:01to you right now. So autistic females, why are
- 1:04they underrepresented? Why what, what is going on here?
- 1:07So I wanted to discuss this with you.
- 1:09What why it seems different, you know, females to males on the
- 1:12autism spectrum. The first one is hidden signs of
- 1:14autism in females. And some of the hidden signs can
- 1:17look like this. When an autistic male is
- 1:21distressed with something that there's something in their life,
- 1:24their routine has changed and they're very distressed.
- 1:27An autistic male may lash out and have a big meltdown and a
- 1:30burnout and it can be visibly difficult to look and it can be
- 1:33distressing to not just watch, but to for the person that's
- 1:36going to be distressing, right? And they're going to feel that
- 1:38quite intensely. Whereas if a routine or a, a
- 1:44deviation from the expected norm happens for a autistic female,
- 1:50what she will do with inherently internally meltdown.
- 1:55So rather than a big outburst, a big emotional outburst, the
- 1:58autistic female will actually kind of start breathing heavily,
- 2:00getting really sweaty, anxious, nervous, shaking inside and
- 2:04feeling that kind of like that kind of detriment happening
- 2:08within the moment. And now this is this is this is
- 2:10difficult because the the male autistics will feel more
- 2:17outburst of anger due to testosterone and other kind of
- 2:19factors. And the females are not
- 2:20conservative in the way that they do it.
- 2:22Now I'm not saying that all autistic females will do this,
- 2:24but I am saying that most of the females will experience this
- 2:27type of thing because of the difference between the males and
- 2:31the females on the autism spectrum when they do this.
- 2:33Now autistic girls actually mask a lot.
- 2:36Now, masking is, I've covered this in another video and I'll
- 2:39try and link it down below, but masking is where you pretend you
- 2:42put on a front, a personality, a persona, a mask, somebody else,
- 2:46an act. I'm going to act normal, you
- 2:49know, whatever normal is so that people don't think I'm weird or
- 2:52people won't get weirded out by my ability to be around other
- 2:56people. I'm going to pretend that I can
- 2:58understand social situations and social cues.
- 3:00This happens from a very early age and autistic females do this
- 3:04straight off the bat. They, they, one of the things
- 3:06that autistic females want to do is they want to fit in.
- 3:08They feel like they are wanting to fit into the world because
- 3:11that's how they're going to be accepted.
- 3:12Rather than try and accept themselves, they want to be
- 3:15accepted in the social norms created by other people who are
- 3:19neurotypical. But autistic females are
- 3:21actually misdiagnosed so many times, misdiagnosed with things
- 3:24like bipolar disorder, manic depressive disorder, some kind
- 3:28of extreme depression episode. And this isn't always the case.
- 3:32This is something that is because they go to the doctor
- 3:35and the doctor doesn't know what is going on because they're not
- 3:38trained in this. They're not trained properly or
- 3:39professionally or proficiently. And this happens so many times.
- 3:43And I'll give you an example in a minute how a late diagnosis is
- 3:46going to really help you and how you can attain a more credible
- 3:49late diagnosis. And here's a word from today's
- 3:52sponsor. I just want to interject in this
- 3:53video here to let you know that confidence is one of the main
- 3:56issues that hold autistic individuals back from their full
- 3:58potential. This is why I read a course
- 4:00which is the Chaos to Confidence in 90 days blueprint, which
- 4:04means I can take an autistic person from complete chaos to
- 4:07being very confident and acing their life.
- 4:09So if you're an autistic adult and you want access to this
- 4:11program, you can check it out. The link is in description and
- 4:14down below or you can go to the aspyworld.com/C to C right now,
- 4:20the number 2 and get access to this program.
- 4:24OK, So what are the implications of having a misdiagnosis?
- 4:27Because thinking about it like women on the autism spectrum, if
- 4:31they're undiagnosed, what normally happens is that they
- 4:34are diagnosed with something else.
- 4:36And it's not only bipolar disorder or kind of like someone
- 4:39like depressive episode or some other kind of personality
- 4:42disorder or trait that isn't really what's going on.
- 4:46So how do we monitor this? How do we get over this?
- 4:47I think one of the best ways, one of the main ways is to get
- 4:50an accurate description diagnosis, so that when you are
- 4:54applying for support or even medication, think about it.
- 4:58If you are wanting to get the right medication, the right
- 5:01support, the right therapy for your condition and you're being
- 5:03diagnosed with something completely wrong, then it's not
- 5:07going to turn out well, is it? I advise you to go to my
- 5:10website, theaspworld.com/autism test.
- 5:13Now you can do this test, it's an AQ test or an autism culture
- 5:16test, and it will ask you a series of questions.
- 5:18And these questions will indicate kind of more
- 5:20symptomatic traits of autism that may align with you and your
- 5:23personality and you as being a being, right.
- 5:25But what does that mean? Well, you can take the print out
- 5:28from the website, you can print out your score and it'll give
- 5:31you an indication based on your answers if you're more likely
- 5:34autistic or not. And then you can take those
- 5:36answers to the doctor or your physician or whatever it is and
- 5:40ask for a referral based on the findings of this type of report.
- 5:43Now this is typically what they do anyway when the deal authors
- 5:46a report, but the misdiagnosis of having bicolor or ADHD or
- 5:50something else leaves women in a bit of a limbo where they don't
- 5:55really feel accepted or heard in that environment.
- 5:58So why? Because this also then leads you
- 6:02underneath the radar when you're under the radar, when you're
- 6:04flying low into the radar, you're outside of the support
- 6:06mechanisms. Now we all have different
- 6:08support mechanisms. We have like maybe it's therapy
- 6:10and maybe it's group or it's our family, maybe it's our friends,
- 6:13and all those things count. However, when you're flying
- 6:17under the radar for the correct and right support, life's going
- 6:20to be way harder. But the good news is, once you
- 6:23as a person get the right diagnosis, if you are diagnosed
- 6:26with autism and it is autism, then the good thing about it is
- 6:29that you can start unmasking and learning to live life as you
- 6:32want to live and do your conditions and do your rules.
- 6:35And by doing that is celebrating so freeing.
- 6:37And you will just feel a little bit more elated in life and feel
- 6:40a bit more comfortable in your situation in your surroundings.
- 6:43This is super awesome. Now if you want to learn any
- 6:45more from me, I do want to learn coaching for people on the
- 6:47autism inspection and I will leave a link for it down below
- 6:50or you can just go to the link in my bio.
