- 0:25SPEAKER_00: Cap the banner or visit this episode's page to learn more.
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: So without further ado, I want to introduce you guys to um the chief uh marketing ambassador and just a brand ambassador for Alta MD, Echo Sandberg.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: So welcome to the show, Echo.
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: I'm so excited to have you here.
- 1:14SPEAKER_02: Thank you for having me.
- 1:15SPEAKER_02: I'm excited to be here.
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I've been really looking forward to hosting the brand because as everyone knows, that's a big skin, you know, a skin nerd like I am.
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: Um ELTA MD is kind of, you know, on the top of the game when it comes to everything SPF.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: And you guys have such lovely products.
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: So I would love to um have you tell us how the brand really kind of came to fruition and um how things really started.
- 1:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, um thanks for thanks for being a fan.
- 1:45SPEAKER_02: Um I I really think ELTA MD is such a special brand to be a part of.
- 1:51SPEAKER_02: Um and there's a really you know interesting story about how the the brand got started.
- 1:56SPEAKER_02: And it was really um the the founder was an entrepreneur, and he had gone to Switzerland, and he actually discovered um the initial product um in the line, and it was a healing ointment um that had been used and passed along through farmers.
- 2:19SPEAKER_02: And so he was able to work um to bring that that product to the US to because he could see the healing benefits and properties of the product and worked to bring it to the the US market, and then um you know realized that there was an opportunity to further improve and and develop um the product and starting from the original um healing cream, the the brand um he launched the brand called ELTA Medical at the time, and it was a medical wound healing and skincare line that was actually um dispensed and sold in in hospitals and and medical facilities across the US.
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: And yeah, I mean it it definitely comes through as a medical brand because I mean obviously the quality is really, really great.
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: And I, you know, I I'm very curious when um brands that are so focused on like just true skin health when they come out and they're so like popular, you know, in the in the normal consumer markets.
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: Um I would love to hear your take on that, especially since you are a marketing expert, like how that has been, like the journey of getting people to understand, like, you know, just how science driven and you know, at the core, how much science is at the core of LTA MD and like everything you guys create.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: So I'd love for you to talk to us about how that's been marketing it to Gen Z, marketing it to millennials, you know, that kind of stuff.
- 3:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and I think it kind of goes back to the beginning.
- 3:50SPEAKER_02: So it's been over 30 years that you know ELTA, which is now L PMD, has been really creating this wonderful innovation.
- 3:58SPEAKER_02: Um, and so moving from the the wound care and skincare products and really having that expertise and that um that heritage in healing really helped the the team at the time to take that expertise and and start to expand out.
- 4:13SPEAKER_02: And it was in uh 1999, that's when the first ELTA sunscreen at the time um was launched.
- 4:21SPEAKER_02: And I really think that the team was ahead of its time, and you know, zinc oxide was a key ingredient that was used in the very first sunscreen, and talking about consumers and people today, that's um you know definitely an ingredient that people love and and seek.
- 4:41SPEAKER_02: And part of that not only the um protection benefits that you can get from it, it there's also you know, as an ingredient, it there's so many wonderful healing properties of that.
- 4:52SPEAKER_02: And so when the from the original sunscreen, um, you know, later later on the the brand grew into Lta MG and the sunscreens um that you know and love and the brand um is known for today, um they were very and we like to call it cosmetically elegant.
- 5:12SPEAKER_02: So the fact that you could have uh sunscreen that gave you such good protection, but it was so wearable.
- 5:22SPEAKER_02: And yeah, that's you.
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's it's something we talk with our dermatologist partners about all the time.
- 5:29SPEAKER_02: And a key reason that people will not um protect themselves, because the numbers are pretty shocking.
- 5:35SPEAKER_02: It's only um 10% of Americans that wear sunscreen every day.
- 5:40SPEAKER_02: Um you have that white cast and and no one wants to have that that look and that feel on the skin.
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and also it's that heaviness too, right?
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: Echo, it's like everyone's like, you know, whenever I talk to people, they're like, well, sunscreen for me just feels like a whole face of makeup.
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: And it's like, well, no, you have to look for the right brand.
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: And I know you guys have um a product that I absolutely love.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: It's the invisible um formulation, and it's very light.
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: And I think all of your products are actually very light and very easy to wear.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: And, you know, so like how was that in terms of formulation?
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: Did you guys have to shift your formulas around a lot?
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: Or was it just something that you know the brand knew initially that we have to create something that everyone can easily you know wear and not feel it on their face?
- 6:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think that was something that um was from the beginning that it it's it's not only you you we want people to wear it, but you're not gonna wear it if you if you can see it.
- 6:36SPEAKER_02: And and I think exactly what you're saying that um you don't want it to feel sticky and um goopy, and and if you can't feel it, and I think that's one of the biggest compliments um that, and we, you know, we did as a marketer, we did some work with the people that use our products, and and a chameleon was one way that um people described their products because it's it's it's there, but you can't see it, you can't feel it.
- 7:00SPEAKER_02: And so, yeah, it it's uh I really give so much credit to the original formulators that made these great products that your skin loves and you you want to wear.
- 7:10SPEAKER_02: And and I think that's the other, you know, the other key thing um beyond the the wearability and the cosmetic elegance, is there's so many great skincare ingredients in Cademd's really known for these, uh for facial sun sunscreens today, that you know there's niacinamide and UV clear.
- 7:31SPEAKER_02: That's UV clear is the hero one that I'm I that's probably the one that you love and wear because so many people can wear it and it's it's for acne-prone skin and oily skin, and and it's almost like the torture test that if you you can wear a sunscreen that's not gonna break you out, because that's another reason why so many people with that skin type won't protect them their skin.
- 7:56SPEAKER_02: And with you know, with the products, you could you're actually in and improving your skin.
- 8:00SPEAKER_02: So I think that's such a great benefit to so many people.
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: No, I I I really think that you know it's uh nowadays it should be almost like a um like a staple to have sunscreen be so easy to you know incorporate into everyone's routine, right?
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: Especially with the rise of male beauty and the rise of um men really coming into the skin care space and saying, hey, you know, we want to take care of our skin too.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: You know, um I think that that's a good uh point that I've heard at least um as feedback that people just want something that's easy to wear and no one's gonna comment on their scan and be like, oh, I I can't wear something different today.
- 8:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so that's good.
- 8:44SPEAKER_01: You know, that's a kind of thing that I think accomplishments.
- 8:47SPEAKER_01: Um one thing I wanted to really ask you though was that you know, I keep getting a mix of um information, I feel like, because a lot of pharmacologists tell me anything above SPF 30 is you don't need it, you know.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: But then I noticed that Alpha has most of the products are SPF 40, SPF 50.
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: Um, and you know, that makes me feel good as a consumer because I feel like my skin is protected and I don't need to like keep slathering it on more often than I need to, right?
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: So I would love for you to talk to us about that.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: Like why um if there's a if there's a reasoning behind the amount um of SPF production.
- 9:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, definitely.
- 9:25SPEAKER_02: There's there's definitely a brand standard that we have that um the products that we make are at um 30 SPF and above.
- 9:33SPEAKER_02: And that that's standard with the the guidelines.
- 9:35SPEAKER_02: And and that's what you'll hear a dermatologist say is that use a broad spectrum SPF that's 30 is 30 SPF or or above.
- 9:43SPEAKER_02: And and that's really where you're going to get that that core benefit.
- 9:48SPEAKER_02: So it's an is important for us that we we formulate to be at 30 or higher.
- 9:53SPEAKER_02: Um, and and you do get some benefit as you go higher, um, but it 30 is the the most dramatic, and and really um, you know, going above 50, it's it's it's not necessary, but you know, what's interesting is um you know it's it's to consumers to your point.
- 10:11SPEAKER_02: Sometimes you think, oh, the higher the the better.
- 10:14SPEAKER_02: And so you see a lot of products that are very, very high SPF.
- 10:19SPEAKER_02: Um but I think it's it's more you know helping people feel good about it.
- 10:24SPEAKER_02: But you know what how we are um how we talk about our SPF, so it's it's it's got to be at least 30 um to give that protection.
- 10:30SPEAKER_02: And and then you know, we're labeling um our formulas as tested.
- 10:35SPEAKER_02: So I know that's something that's a little um different or unique because you know, again, the the hero um product EV clear is is SPF 46, um, but but just uh giving that transparency uh within the products that we have.
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 10:51SPEAKER_01: No, that makes sense.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: And you know, I I think that as long as it's not SPF 150 or something crazy, you know, like I don't think there's a huge red flag there.
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: Um one thing I'm really, really curious about is that LTMD has a lot of really cool products that are for um post-procedure skin.
- 11:08SPEAKER_01: And I really love that because I don't think enough brands are doing that at all.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: And I think especially um after things like as I'm sure you know, you know, laser procedures or anything that we get done, like we want to make sure our skin is more protected than normal.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: So when it comes to the post-procedure products in the line, um, what really kind of goes behind that in terms of like the data collection, the formulation?
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: Do you like you know work with dermatologists to create that more specifically than other products?
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: I mean, just what what's the process?
- 11:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so it's it's important that you know we're getting information and and um we have you know dermatologists that are working directly with us on all the products that we do, whether um it's our sun care, our skin care, or our procedure care.
- 11:53SPEAKER_02: Um, but when it comes to to procedure care, so I love that you you called that out because I I think it's one of the best kept secrets in a way.
- 12:02SPEAKER_02: And it you know, we come, it's it's where the brand started was within um it and ELTA again, ELTA as a brand before L1D, had this extended line of wound care products.
- 12:14SPEAKER_02: And so the the products are really designed to address the the various phases of wound healing, and so they can be used um uh you know various protocols based around the procedures that you're doing, and they could be more aesthetic-based procedures like lasers or the more medical procedures like mode surgery.
- 12:37SPEAKER_02: And you know, one of the products that we have, so within the line, we have what's called 510K medical devices, um, and that would be like our LTMD Silver Gel or our Germal Wound Cleanser.
- 12:48SPEAKER_02: And the Silver Gel is such a almost a magical product that you know a lot of our um mode surgeons love to use when you when you have you know a procedure like that, or um, you know, you there can be risk of um of bacteria and and actually something negative happening um with the wound healing process.
- 13:11SPEAKER_02: And so um it's it has um very strong antimicrobial properties to make sure that it's all about getting the the breast the best healing um so that you can have the best results from your procedure overall.
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: Well, I believe that silver nitrite is used a lot, especially in pediatric patients too, for skin conditions, like as an anti-um microbial agent.
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: So that makes sense.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: It uses silver, right?
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: You said silver, isn't it?
- 13:36SPEAKER_02: Yes, correct.
- 13:36SPEAKER_02: Yes, it's uh 55 CPN silver.
- 13:39SPEAKER_01: Yep, yep.
- 13:40SPEAKER_01: That's yeah, that makes sense, and that's actually brilliant.
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: You know, I'm glad that they have that.
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: And I and I noticed that that you guys have a wound uh cleaning, you know, product, which is so amazing to me to see that from a mainstream skincare brand.
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: Because, you know, there I feel like a lot of times on TikTok or even just social media in general, I'll see people like those like self-extractions that they're always doing and stuff.
- 14:01SPEAKER_01: And I'm like cringing, like, oh my gosh, because the trauma of what happens after you do that at all, you know, at least there's a brand out there that you can be like, okay, let me apply something on top of this so I don't get infected, you know.
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: And so that's it, that's huge, you know, and it's really important to bring light to that those products that are in the line because there are a few, you know, there are a few, and they're it there's not a lot out there in terms of other brands having this kind of stuff.
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: Um one thing I I want to ask.
- 14:32SPEAKER_02: I was gonna say um just one thing based off of what you're saying.
- 14:35SPEAKER_02: So I have I have a 11-year-old and a and a nine-year-old too, and and they is for as efficacious as these, you know, the two that you just mentioned are derma wound cleanser and and silver gel, and those both are medical devices, they are super gentle on the skin.
- 14:51SPEAKER_02: And so when you have um even at home, when we're using it um to treat uh minor minor cuts and and and burns, and it and it cleans it everything up and it um helps to to promote the healthy healing and and um it doesn't sting.
- 15:07SPEAKER_02: So that's another winner, uh, especially if you have kids.
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, no, I can imagine because you know it I remember, you know, being a millennial person.
- 15:16SPEAKER_01: Like I remember when everyone had to fight, you know, to get the the sunscreen on the on the little one.
- 15:22SPEAKER_01: You know, I have a brother who's 10 years younger than me, and my mother used to always be like, I don't care if you're brown, you still need sunscreen.
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: And he used to fight her, you know, every time um we would go to the beach.
- 15:31SPEAKER_01: So I I really like that that it's formulated in a way that's really compatible with like family use, you know, that's huge.
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: And that's something that I think in the skincare industry we don't talk about a lot.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: You know, we have a lot of products out there that are for women, you know, specifically, or if you're aging or if this, but then it's very rare to have brands that are like, well, we can we can fit everybody regardless of age, you know, and that's um, and the fact that you guys are doing that in such a subtle way, um, I I really, you know, appreciate that as a consumer.
- 16:01SPEAKER_02: Well, and that's um, you know, the brand belief is that we believe that everybody, and it's intentionally, you know, everybody, because uh that everybody deserves to live freely.
- 16:11SPEAKER_02: And part of that is to know that um yet you're protected, which gives you the confidence to to be free.
- 16:18SPEAKER_02: And you know, you talked about men earlier, and and and what I love to see is the inclusivity um of the user.
- 16:25SPEAKER_02: So every single person should be wearing sunscreen.
- 16:28SPEAKER_02: Um so a lot of men will use our product.
- 16:30SPEAKER_02: Men's men love our cleanser, um, foaming facial cleanser, which is a uh great gentle foaming cleanser, um, all ages.
- 16:38SPEAKER_02: And we, you know, we just launched a product called Easy Stick.
- 16:41SPEAKER_02: Um, we just launched that in in January.
- 16:43SPEAKER_02: And um, for you know, for kids, for people on the go, for golfers, um, it's super convenient.
- 16:50SPEAKER_02: That that's another way to sort of address and make it easy for for people to um to be sun safe.
- 16:58SPEAKER_02: Um, and you know, with with kids, sometimes it can be a fun stopper.
- 17:03SPEAKER_02: You're you know in the middle of of doing something really great and someone's reminding you to put on sunscreen.
- 17:08SPEAKER_02: So you know we want to make it as pleasurable of an experience as possible.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, absolutely.
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: And I I know the product you're talking about, the UV stick.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: I absolutely love it.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: It's such a cool product to have um in your purse because you know, uh especially like recently, like I did this 12-hour drive and I was sitting there thinking, like, you know, just you have so much time to think of a drive.
- 17:30SPEAKER_01: And I was thinking like, yeah, like there need to be more products that you can just apply while you're driving and it's still safe.
- 17:37SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, because most sunscreens you have to like support in your hand and whatnot, but like you have to be able to reapply easily, you know, regardless of where you are.
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: And I'm not condoning, you know, driving and applying sunscreen, by the way, to every thing.
- 17:49SPEAKER_01: But um, this is definitely something that makes it easier, you know, especially if if you're busy.
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: I mean, I know you mentioned the children aspect, but it's it's like, you know, for me as somebody who's always tied up in my in my day job, you know, uh forgetting to apply every two hours if I'm going outside.
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: That's you know, it happens a lot.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: So it this is a really, really cool product.
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: I'm glad you guys came out with this.
- 18:11SPEAKER_02: Well, I'm I'm super impressed that you are reapplying, uh, especially being on the road.
- 18:16SPEAKER_02: And you you've probably seen that famous photo um of a it was of a truck driver, and it was half of his face was always exposed with his his daily job, and the other half wasn't, and you can see the the visible difference um of the damage from the sun.
- 18:32SPEAKER_02: So I'm super impressed that you were um you were being very mindful on your road trip.
- 18:39SPEAKER_01: Thank you, though.
- 18:39SPEAKER_01: Thank you so much.
- 18:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I honestly, you know, I think it makes it worse.
- 18:42SPEAKER_01: I'm not even gonna lie.
- 18:43SPEAKER_01: I don't know if there's any studies out there, so I'm not gonna like say it, but I feel like when you're driving in that windshield and the glass, the light that's coming through is just it's coming through at different angles.
- 18:54SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 18:54SPEAKER_01: I just have my own like hypothesis, you know, around it.
- 18:58SPEAKER_01: My face feels hotter after I've been in a car, and even if the air conditioning is on, like I can feel it, you know, it's like almost like direct sunlight beaming on your face.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: So I think it's really important for us to be mindful when we're you know out and about and especially behind certain types of glass or certain types of transparent things because we don't know how light refracts through them.
- 19:19SPEAKER_01: And there's not, I don't think there's information out there about, you know, um if there's a difference or not, right?
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: So it's better to be safe than sorry.
- 19:29SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 19:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, one question, okay.
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: So another question I have is that, you know, I know that the line is known for its um obviously the SPF and the amazing products, but you guys have really good um just everyday skincare products.
- 19:43SPEAKER_01: I know that there's this amazing um PM uh moisturizer.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: I've been loving that moisturizer.
- 19:48SPEAKER_01: Um I would love to for you to speak on those kind of products as well, um, in terms of incorporating those into your routine because they're very simple.
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: Like I feel like it's like a three-step routine for the most part, right?
- 20:00SPEAKER_02: So yeah, absolutely.
- 20:02SPEAKER_02: And I think that's you know, one from the beginning, it's what are the basics that you need in your skincare routine to have really great skin.
- 20:09SPEAKER_02: And you know, if you talk to your skin professional, they're gonna tell you if you're gonna get started, because because everybody is is different in what they can like what they can bring in and incorporate into their routine, but it's it's gonna be a a cleanser and a sunscreen.
- 20:24SPEAKER_02: Like that's how you would get started.
- 20:26SPEAKER_02: And we, you know, I mentioned earlier the Ltd Foaming Facial Cleanser, and that um it's it's such a great um gentle sun, uh excuse me, cleanser that works for all different skin types.
- 20:42SPEAKER_02: So it can be hard with sensitive skin, um, again, finding products that could irritate.
- 20:47SPEAKER_02: So a lot of people will gravitate to this for the gentleness.
- 20:51SPEAKER_02: But what's so special, if you haven't gotten a try, you should definitely try.
- 20:55SPEAKER_02: And I I love um I love there was a um an influencer in China that that coined this, but it has a self-foaming um formula.
- 21:06SPEAKER_02: And so what happens is you you put it onto your face and then you let it sit there, and then it it does the self-foaming.
- 21:13SPEAKER_02: And um it's so visually, it's uh it's it's very fun experience, if you could say fun when you're when you're cleansing.
- 21:21SPEAKER_02: But he he described it as um fish kisses on your face because you actually feel um the the bubbles um starting to build and foam on your face.
- 21:31SPEAKER_02: And what's what's um even better about that is that um that there's actually some you know technology there.
- 21:38SPEAKER_02: So the the bubble that's foaming on your face is actually um helping to you know re remove um the the dance the pollution and the you know all of the your day that's been on your skin um and and prevent that reoccurrence.
- 21:53SPEAKER_02: So there's actually you know um some science there that's happening, but it's such a fun um inviting cleanse.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: And you know, beyond the the cleanser, like you're talking about PM therapy, which is one of my favorite moisturizers as well.
- 22:07SPEAKER_02: Um, you you've got these, you know, these great, if you go cleanser, sunscreen, and then you know, moisturizers like your next step you might add in.
- 22:15SPEAKER_02: Um, really powerful moisturizers that you can pair well with the sunscreen.
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: So um, you know, if you're a a UV daily users love to use uh PM therapy um as part of their their moisture that that that fits into their full uh skincare routine.
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, it's a really great product.
- 22:35SPEAKER_01: I I really enjoy the three-step routine.
- 22:37SPEAKER_01: Like I um I've been using um the cleanser, which you described, and then I tried um obviously the PM therapy, and there's also a serum that's there, um the skin recovery serum that I've been using.
- 22:50SPEAKER_01: Um and they're really, really great, and it's it's really like an easy routine, and I think it's just so perfectly made for like anyone to j like just hop on board of this and just kind of take, you know, just be able to use it every single day.
- 23:04SPEAKER_01: I've been suggesting it to a lot of my male friends because you know, men I think are more they gravitate more towards like these like science heavy brands because they're like, well, why am I gonna use this?
- 23:14SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 23:15SPEAKER_01: And uh that's the question I get.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: It's like, well, why do I need this?
- 23:17SPEAKER_01: And then if you if I'm able to say, well, listen, you know, your skin is it needs to be protected, like they're more inclined when I tell them the science.
- 23:26SPEAKER_01: And so I love that you guys have these products, but they're not like bombarding someone, you know, when they're on the page, like trying to find the right skincare routine.
- 23:34SPEAKER_01: It's really cool.
- 23:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think the the serum that you tried, so that's our skin recovery serum.
- 23:41SPEAKER_02: Um, what's great about that is this the science team on this one, it was over 10 years that they were developing the complex that goes into this.
- 23:51SPEAKER_02: And you know, there's a lot of people, and you you talked about again, you know, what simple um routines of this is great for men.
- 23:58SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, skin barrier damage can show up in a lot of different ways on the face.
- 24:03SPEAKER_02: And so this is really you know helping to make sure that your your barrier is as strong as it needs to be and as healthy as it needs to be.
- 24:10SPEAKER_02: Um, but we also did some studies showing um skin recovery system uh standalone and also pairing it with our sun screens.
- 24:21SPEAKER_02: And what was really great about this, because you know, if you're getting sun damage, that's that's damaging your your skin barrier.
- 24:29SPEAKER_02: And because of you know, the the fact that people, there's a gap in in people wearing sunscreen every day, and and there's definitely an even bigger gap in in reapplication.
- 24:39SPEAKER_02: And so what the data was able to show with the skin recovery is that if you're you know you're using your sunscreen in the morning, but you perhaps you didn't um you know reapply throughout the day, it's it's actually helping to um repair.
- 24:54SPEAKER_02: And um, you know, you can see underneath the surface what's a little bit invisible if you you start to see that you know damage that that comes from UV.
- 25:04SPEAKER_02: Um so that was pretty powerful for me personally to see what was happening underneath our our skin.
- 25:10SPEAKER_02: Um and you know, we were able to show that that it's help it's helping to repair that, um, which I think is you know power pretty powerful for anyone because there's such you know such challenges with um you know hyperpigmentation and other issues um caused by UV induced damage.
- 25:25SPEAKER_01: Oh, absolutely, yeah.
- 25:27SPEAKER_01: There's um I did a few episodes with uh dermatologists and and plastic surgeons, and we this idea always kept coming up was this, you know, this concept of microtraumas for the skin, because you know, skin it's it's an organ where you know we have damage every day, and like most organs, it's not seen till something really drastic occurs, right?
- 25:47SPEAKER_01: So like when it comes to micro traumas, I think there's not a lot known about it or it's not talked about enough.
- 25:54SPEAKER_01: Because I really think, honestly, like I'm telling you, if we talked more about it, like in a in the sense of like even if you can't see it, like you're still breaking bonds, your skin is still being damaged, people would really gravitate even more towards sunscreen because it's really like the same thing as someone saying, Well, I'm ripping this, you know.
- 26:12SPEAKER_01: So if you break bonds, it's for everyone listening out there, if you're breaking certain like chemical bonds, um, or you're you know, causing some sort of like tissue damage on a micro microscopic level, it's the same thing.
- 26:24SPEAKER_01: It's you know, especially the skin, like you're ripping something apart, like a piece of cloth or something.
- 26:29SPEAKER_01: That's you know, for me, that's how I visualize it.
- 26:31SPEAKER_01: And, you know, I I just think that there's not enough like schematics or something out there, you know, to help people understand this because it's it's a real problem.
- 26:38SPEAKER_01: And the skin is the only organ that undergoes such trauma every single day.
- 26:44SPEAKER_01: Like no other organ goes through this.
- 26:46SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, everything else is protected.
- 26:48SPEAKER_01: So yeah, it's a huge, huge topic.
- 26:52SPEAKER_02: No, I I love that.
- 26:54SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, I I want to go back with the team and and think about how we could support that because I think that's so important.
- 27:00SPEAKER_02: And and like you're saying, yeah, you know, your skin is the only organ that's protected, it's your largest, and you know, the skin is protecting you.
- 27:08SPEAKER_02: So it's doing so much for us.
- 27:10SPEAKER_02: Um, so we need to we need to take care of it and help it out a bit.
- 27:13SPEAKER_02: So I but I love that concept.
- 27:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, I agree with you and and thank you.
- 27:17SPEAKER_01: Um, I actually want to ask you though, um, Echo, I I know that like the brand um it has been raved about by every editor.
- 27:24SPEAKER_01: Like I had in the beginning of Skincare Anarchy, I had um some editors on, and every time I would ask them like what are your five favorite products, they would always mention L C MD, like always, like it was Hallmark.
- 27:36SPEAKER_01: And um, I want to ask you about that because a line like this, you know, when I look at it, I'm like every doctor's office, every dermatologist's office needs to have this available, you know, as like an option for their patients.
- 27:47SPEAKER_01: But then when it comes to like mainstream, um just like being in mainstream consumer markets and then people reading, you know, beauty magazines, like how has that been from a marketing perspective for you guys?
- 27:57SPEAKER_01: Like, has it been kind of easy?
- 27:59SPEAKER_01: Like people just picked up on it naturally.
- 28:01SPEAKER_01: I mean, you have great products, I can see that happening, or or has there been a lot of outreach that you've had to do to like really educate um you know the public about how these products are revolutionizing things?
- 28:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think um, you know, it's a number of things, and and I still think for as as many people that are in the know, and and when you you're mentioning editors, you're mentioning dermatologists, of course, they're in the know.
- 28:25SPEAKER_02: So um, you know, dermatologists absolutely know LTM D.
- 28:28SPEAKER_02: LTMD is the number one um recommended, trusted, and used, which I think is the most exciting, actually.
- 28:34SPEAKER_02: It's the number one professional sun care brand that dermatologists in the US are deciding to use for their own skin.
- 28:40SPEAKER_02: So I think that's that's pretty powerful.
- 28:42SPEAKER_02: And and that, of course, you know, comes back to products and everything that we talked about by by you know being really breakthrough and innovative by using face sunscreen that um had skincare benefits that was protecting your skin and is super wearable.
- 28:57SPEAKER_02: So that started with products, that um sort of built buzz um with the profession.
- 29:03SPEAKER_02: And then, you know, people do listen to their their germs, which is wonderful.
- 29:08SPEAKER_02: And and you know, some of it, some of it started where you have, you know, celebrities like Drew Barrymore, Courtney Kardashian, and and others that they they heard about L Tem D from their dermatologists.
- 29:20SPEAKER_02: So it really shows you again the the power of listening to your dermatologist.
- 29:24SPEAKER_02: They tried it and they loved it.
- 29:26SPEAKER_02: And so, you know, a lot of um a lot of the the bug came organically.
- 29:32SPEAKER_02: And what's wonderful about that is then their audience may be people that have never gone to their skin professionals before.
- 29:42SPEAKER_02: And um they've you know never never tried professional skincare.
- 29:47SPEAKER_02: And so that there's kind of twofold um that it can really help people, you know, figure out a routine and product that that work work for them.
- 29:58SPEAKER_02: Um and and so what we do as a as a brand is we really try to um fuel you know organic love that that's out there and and recognize and and thank people when they're talking about the brand.
- 30:13SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, do we do outreach to introduce when we have new products or new things coming?
- 30:20SPEAKER_02: Um we, you know, next month is is May, and May is skin cancer awareness month, and it's something that you know we're very passionate about what we what we can do to help raise awareness and in education.
- 30:34SPEAKER_02: And and I think there's you know, there's a little bit of a shift from my perspective, definitely different from when I was growing up, where people, although there's such an opportunity, people are understanding more and thinking more about the importance of of sun screen and realize to your point there's there's some great options that people have that um maybe there weren't there in in in the past.
- 31:00SPEAKER_02: And and and I think social media has been actually wonderful because you see a lot of dermatologists that are have taken um to being online to try to reach people with with really good and credible information.
- 31:16SPEAKER_02: And a part of part of that is you need to wear sunscreen every day.
- 31:20SPEAKER_02: So that you know, that there's a momentum around that that that helps us as a as a brand.
- 31:26SPEAKER_02: And you know, we just we work to continue to to build and support that.
- 31:32SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 31:32SPEAKER_01: I really love that.
- 31:33SPEAKER_01: And I love that you brought up the the idea of how celebrities really play into this um, you know, I guess the 10-setting aspect of you know using good skin health products.
- 31:43SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's such a huge point.
- 31:45SPEAKER_01: And I've never really thought about it like that, where you know, you have someone like Courtney Kardashian and she's talking about dermatologists.
- 31:50SPEAKER_01: That's so true.
- 31:51SPEAKER_01: Like I remember when I was first getting acting as a teenager, like the idea of a dermatologist, like my parents were just completely confused, you know, they were like, a dermatologist, why do you need to go to a dermatologist?
- 32:01SPEAKER_01: Because I'd like done my homework and whatnot.
- 32:03SPEAKER_01: And now I feel like we're still dealing with that, but we just don't see it.
- 32:07SPEAKER_01: You know, I I think a lot of people, um, there are a lot more people out there that don't know because when I go onto Reddit, for example, I always bring this up, but it's true because I'm literally on Reddit all day um looking at these forums in my free time, and people are still confused about what is this?
- 32:25SPEAKER_01: Is this happening?
- 32:26SPEAKER_01: Like, what is it?
- 32:27SPEAKER_01: Should I even use that?
- 32:29SPEAKER_01: Do I even need something?
- 32:30SPEAKER_01: Like these kind of questions are everywhere on Reddit.
- 32:33SPEAKER_01: And so it just makes me think like how far have we come, right?
- 32:36SPEAKER_01: With this like education aspect and then and the knowledge aspect and getting it out there to the people that are not on, you know, every magazine's website checking what they do or every you know dermatologist.
- 32:48SPEAKER_01: Like these are just everyday, you know, people that don't have time to like spend three hours on the internet, you know, looking up what to do for their skin.
- 32:55SPEAKER_01: So what is your suggestion?
- 32:57SPEAKER_01: Like, how can we reach people like that, you know, in terms of like getting the name out there, getting the word out there?
- 33:02SPEAKER_01: Because, you know, I'm still trying to figure that out.
- 33:06SPEAKER_01: For me, I just go on to Reddit Forums and like start talking.
- 33:08SPEAKER_01: Like it's it's really bad.
- 33:11SPEAKER_02: Well, I mean, it's it's complicated, right?
- 33:14SPEAKER_02: It's it's our skin is complicated and wonderful, and it it it changes, you know, based off of different factors, uh, internal and external factors in our life.
- 33:26SPEAKER_02: So that makes it challenging when you have something that's not static and it it continues to change, you know, as you age as well.
- 33:33SPEAKER_02: So that that I think is is difficult.
- 33:35SPEAKER_02: And and for as much as um, you know, people are enthusiasts about skincare and wanting to learn and study more, there's you know, there's real life and other things, and it and it's super complicated.
- 33:48SPEAKER_02: So um, you know, I think it's go to you know, listen listen to two experts, and and that's again why we as a brand do try to help um lift up the voice of the profession so that um these conversations can happen outside of the office as well and and reach more people.
- 34:08SPEAKER_02: Um, and then you know, maybe that brings them in um into to an office.
- 34:13SPEAKER_02: Um, and and again, you know, when we do um, you know, we do try to like we last year we we worked with a bigger name.
- 34:21SPEAKER_02: Um we worked with uh Brooke Shields with Skin Cancer Awareness Month, and she was also a skin cancer survivor.
- 34:29SPEAKER_02: Um and and so she could tell you know her personal experience um around it.
- 34:35SPEAKER_02: And and so, you know, that again is trying to to help people is go going to um look for credible, you know, trusted sources.
- 34:46SPEAKER_02: Um and and what I love is I love um the formats actually of of video and and and podcasts, and there's you know there's ways that you can um, you know, people could listen to you.
- 34:59SPEAKER_02: And and I've done that.
- 35:00SPEAKER_02: I've I've loved your show and and caught learned so much listening to some of your episodes, but these are you know really accessible ways that you can listen to this while you're doing something else and and learn learn something new.
- 35:13SPEAKER_01: Absolutely, no, absolutely.
- 35:14SPEAKER_01: I know that was a very uh tricky question too, because I'm like asking you for the answer to a question that we really all don't know.
- 35:22SPEAKER_01: You know, I just love your answer.
- 35:24SPEAKER_01: Thank you for being such a good support with that.
- 35:26SPEAKER_01: I you know, I I just get frustrated, I think, when I look at you know, all the Reddit users and stuff, and everyone's just like, I'm like, guys, just go pick up a bottle of sunscreen, like, you know, just go and protect yourself.
- 35:36SPEAKER_01: So, you know, it I think it's a really important to get the word out there, and I love that Alta MD is working so hard to um bring in the right in people in terms of influence and you know reach because you know, the more people we can get even if I feel like even if we can get the word out that just put on sunscreen from the dermatology standpoint, that will be a huge accomplishment for the profession, you know, because not like like I said, a lot fewer people are actually doing that than we care to admit.
- 36:06SPEAKER_01: And um, you know, I just I think a brand like this is for me, it brings up the focus right where it should be.
- 36:13SPEAKER_01: That's what I think for me really drew me into LTMD, and I was like chasing your calendar for so long because I was like, I need to get them on because the brand, yeah, you have a lot of great products and the skin products, but the focus is still always on the sunscreen.
- 36:28SPEAKER_01: And that's something that we don't see enough of, you know, in the beauty markets and the skincare markets and even the health and wellness markets is just this dedicated approach to this is the stuff that you need for preventative care, you know, and that's really where it comes down to is the idea of preventative care.
- 36:44SPEAKER_01: And if you look at it from a dermatologist standpoint, the first thing, in my opinion, I mean, I've gone to a lot of dermatologists, I have colleagues, but I always tell them, like, if I were you and if dermatology were my specialty, the first thing I would say is, let me first ask you what sensor anywhere.
- 36:58SPEAKER_01: Because that would tell me, you know what I mean?
- 37:01SPEAKER_01: And so, like, if we can get people on a point where it's like that's just something you tell your doctor automatically, that's huge, you know, that's that's real change.
- 37:09SPEAKER_01: So um, I really appreciate what you guys are doing um in that space.
- 37:13SPEAKER_01: Now, I do have one more question for you, and that is just for our listeners, um, as like a go-to quick guide.
- 37:20SPEAKER_01: Um, if you were to like, I guess, recommend products for like different ages, like would there be a difference in what um products we should try from the brand, or can we use anybody can use any of the products?
- 37:34SPEAKER_02: Well, so it depends.
- 37:35SPEAKER_02: So there some people will say, well, why do you have so many different sunscreens?
- 37:39SPEAKER_02: Um, and and we do have so many because it's personal and your needs can be different by your life stage, your your skin condition, your climate, where you are, so and in your lifestyle as well.
- 37:54SPEAKER_02: Um, because you know, I I love um I love to sunscreen wardrobe.
- 38:00SPEAKER_02: So I personally, you know, as one individual, um, I have my everyday sunscreen that I I like to wear, which is um UV restore, and uh it helps to improve sun damage and um fine lines and wrinkles.
- 38:16SPEAKER_02: So I wear that every day, but then I use um a product called UV Elements that's that's super moisturized, moisturizing and hydrating, but it also is water resistant um as well.
- 38:27SPEAKER_02: So I use that um on weekends um when I'm out, or you know, especially if I'm at the beach or by the water.
- 38:34SPEAKER_02: And then I I have a full body product that I'm using as well.
- 38:37SPEAKER_02: So I I personally am using, and then my across my family, um, everybody has their favorites, and so we have different tents available, we have different textures available.
- 38:48SPEAKER_02: Um, so so part of this is finding what worked for you.
- 38:53SPEAKER_02: Um, we have, if you go to um ltmd.com, we actually have a our uh our digital skincare partner, her name is Elise, you can um chat with Elise and she will give you a personalized recommendation um based off of your your skin needs.
- 39:12SPEAKER_02: Um can help direct you to um the various products.
- 39:15SPEAKER_02: And you know, I always say um try and when you order on our website, you can we actually send free samples with the order.
- 39:22SPEAKER_02: So you can you can figure out what's gonna be the the best match for you because the you know the best um sunscreen is gonna be the the one that you wear every day.
- 39:31SPEAKER_02: And so yes, um there are different um different products for different needs, um, which could be age as well.
- 39:41SPEAKER_02: Um for example, your skin may get drier as as you age, um, but but we have um the variety of products there just so that you can find one that you'll fall in love with.
- 39:51SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 39:52SPEAKER_01: Thank you for explaining the yeah.
- 39:54SPEAKER_01: So everyone listening, um, the best way to do this is to go onto the website, LTMD's website, and just browse their products.
- 40:01SPEAKER_01: They really do.
- 40:01SPEAKER_01: I mean, Echo is not lying when she says there's something for everyone here because there really is.
- 40:06SPEAKER_01: I mean, you know, sunscreen has to become I mean, I feel like sunscreen has to become more like I guess I could say sexy, you know what I mean?
- 40:15SPEAKER_01: I I don't know if that's the right word because, but like, you know, like serums, right?
- 40:18SPEAKER_01: Everyone wants a serum.
- 40:19SPEAKER_01: But I think when you're shopping for sunscreen, you need to have everything in one place where you can really like figure it out.
- 40:24SPEAKER_01: And L10D has done that so well on the website.
- 40:27SPEAKER_01: So yeah, everyone listening, I really urge you go check them out.
- 40:31SPEAKER_01: I mean, this is my favorite brand for sunscreen.
- 40:33SPEAKER_01: That's this is what I'm using from now on.
- 40:35SPEAKER_01: I'm not going to be going back to my others because they were not working for me for a variety of reasons.
- 40:41SPEAKER_01: Um, but I've I've absolutely fallen in love with all the products.
- 40:45SPEAKER_01: So um, Echo, thank you so much for your time and just all the knowledge and coming onto the show.
- 40:51SPEAKER_01: It's been such an honor hosting you.
- 40:53SPEAKER_02: Thank you for having me ahead of last.
