- 0:03This is a Bramble Jam podcast. This week on your Gabble Gabble, I
- 0:14sue your friend for money. She owes you, but she's too busy hitting
- 0:17on the bailiff. This Judge matth is gonna stop her? Who knows only
- 0:20one way to find out? And you've heard it said once you popped the
- 0:23fun, don't stop. But if you hit someone with a pringles bag,
- 0:26is it fun? Judge Judy tells us real peopleto cases. Wait Justice,
- 0:30this is your g go go go. I see you dance right there,
- 0:38I see you put your hands in the air. I see you. Hey,
- 0:41hey, hey, hey, Oh my gosh. Baby's good to be
- 0:47back. Everybody back in the chambers. The gabble is the chambers hot and
- 0:52fresh out the kitchen is what to day. We have Judge Judy's new program
- 0:56called Judy Justice, Judy Justice, I am dv TV have new things and
- 1:02they play her clips. No, she's alive and she has a team.
- 1:06Now she has her granddaughter who is there for some She says, I think
- 1:12two words in this case. And then she has someone there taking notes a
- 1:17Clark, good gosh, and that person says, this was money well spent.
- 1:23I believe. They said, how do we spice things up? How
- 1:27do we make sure Judy is competent enough at one hundred and eighty nine years
- 1:32old to still do this? She's looking good. They put her in.
- 1:34They put her in purple, a purple road. She's got some purple lipstick.
- 1:38She looks great purple lipstick. She's just like a subtle, subtle purple
- 1:42lipstick. So I'm live. It's a live and you have math math is
- 1:46also wearing purple lips, no purple lipstick, but he's got plenty of SaaS
- 1:49to deliver. Wait, do you want to just dive on in? Let's
- 1:55first? Sure? Sure? My My intro is a little bit of a
- 1:59misnumber. There is a weird bit with the bailiff, okay, and it
- 2:01is uncomfortable and it never gets resolved. And I don't know how that is
- 2:07okay, and I don't know how it's allowed to happen, aside from the
- 2:09fact that Judge Mathis doesn't play by any rules but his own. Uh,
- 2:13let's go to Judge Mathess's court. And one of my favorite courtrooms is you
- 2:15just really never know what's gonna happen. Uh Cordaro, wellbon Cordaro Welbon is
- 2:22suing the defendant, Gabrielle for twenty three hundred bones Cardell Cardero Cardero. It's
- 2:30co r d A r R O Muney twenty three and it's for babysitting fees
- 2:38and furniture. He he is suing her for babysitting fees and furniture. All
- 2:43right, now, Gabrielle is countersuing one thousand bucks for harassment. Great,
- 2:47all right, let's dive in. Cordero tell me about it, and he
- 2:51says, first of all, Judge Mathis, this is a young guy.
- 2:53He's maybe twenty three, twenty four guy. He's got so he has got
- 2:57a lot of energy. First of all, just Mathis, I'm a huge
- 2:59fan of show. I watch it all the time. That's what I want
- 3:00to say. First of all, matthis doesn't respond, doesn't say a word.
- 3:05Then he goes second, don't listen to a word this woman says.
- 3:08And then he says, I'd be surprised if she didn't leave with mister Doyle
- 3:12here. Mister Doyle is the bailiff. He's the one white guy in the
- 3:15entire courtroom. He steps up and he says, I'd be surprised too.
- 3:24Doyle looks her up and down and says, I'd be surprised too. All
- 3:29right, Doyle, you never know. Man again, I don't know if
- 3:31you can say that. Oh it gets more uncomfortable. You ready, I
- 3:36can't it can. Cordaro says she's promiscuous. I've known her my whole life.
- 3:40She drinks like a fish. And at this point, the bailiff says,
- 3:44now I'm really gonna leave with her. Doyle, you didn't need to
- 3:51come back in, but yeah, that's come back in. People were thinking
- 3:54it was a little too much. You should just and he went all the
- 3:58way on the edge. What is she doing while this is happening, She's
- 4:01just smiling and laughing. You know, classic sexism at work. Matthis is
- 4:08like, yes, man, what about you. Gabrielle's like, yeah,
- 4:10we grew up together. Mathis doesn't try to put a stop to this.
- 4:13He does it. He goes, oh, you're gonna leave with her?
- 4:14Huh thanks, judge. Gabrielle says, we grew up together. We've never
- 4:19been on bad terms, we've never loaned each other money. This is the
- 4:21first time we've had any incident at all. I hate that we're in court,
- 4:26and Matthew's like, okay, well, why are you in court?
- 4:28Cordaro says, Gabrielle needed some money for me. No, Gabrielle needed someone
- 4:32to watch her son. She has a son. She switched jobs. I
- 4:35said I would do it for three hundred dollars a month. Really, you
- 4:39know whatever? And how often is the baby? I don't know. Okay,
- 4:43we never get to that. And in February March she paid me,
- 4:46and then in April she couldn't pay me, and money must have been tight,
- 4:50and so we talked about it and we came up with a promisory note
- 4:55that said she would pay me for eight months of babysitting when she got her
- 4:59tax refund. No, as soon as he says the word tax, we
- 5:01get a full audible reaction for mathis like a full like oh come on,
- 5:09man, like a full bit. And then he says, I know,
- 5:13Judge, how you feel about the taxes. And Judge says, you must
- 5:16be in the men's room during my show or you must be talking the whole
- 5:20time. If you say you love my show and think she's gonna pay you
- 5:25with her taxes, you must have never seen a single case that I've ever
- 5:28had. You actually believed her that she'd pay you with her taxes. You
- 5:30say you watch me every day promisory note, though, he says those two
- 5:34things don't go together. If you watch me every day, you should know
- 5:38better than the trust she's gonna pay you back with her taxes. Promisory note,
- 5:41though we'll get there. I know I'm with you on the promisory note
- 5:44more than fair, so, Cordara says. She said around February March of
- 5:49the next year, she pay me. I watched the kid through November the
- 5:53year. I started calling her in January, no answer. I went to
- 5:57her house, not there. She was ignoring me. And Matthis is like,
- 6:01do you think she spent the money? And he says yes. And
- 6:04her birthday was in May and I got this. I found this and it's
- 6:08an invite to her birthday where the whole nightclub has shut down just for her
- 6:12birthday. All right, I can see you though that would be frustrating.
- 6:15And Mathis is doing a full a full Monty here like it's great, and
- 6:21Gabrielle's like you're honor. Nope, that party was through some promoters. It
- 6:26didn't cost me any money. They do that for everybody. They do that
- 6:29for everybody, and he says that this sign doesn't say everybody. This son
- 6:32says you. He said maybe I should have a judge Mathis party is what
- 6:36he says. Okay, judge Cordera, Yeah, he's a full bit.
- 6:39It's a full Mathis bit. Cordero says, at the end of the march,
- 6:43my lease was up, and so my furniture wouldn't fit my new place.
- 6:46I let her borrow it, and then we decided that I would sell
- 6:48her the furniture for eight hundred bucks. And Gabrielle said, no, I
- 6:53left your furniture on my porch. That is not what happened. Cordero said,
- 6:56nope, we were gonna sell it for eight hundred bucks. And Gabrielle
- 6:59says, nope. He stayed with me for several months. When he moved
- 7:01out in between his leases, I put his furniture on my porch. I
- 7:06never agreed to pay him and he never came and picked it up, and
- 7:11that's why it's still there. Mathis says, okay, got it. What
- 7:14about the baby sitting peas, Yes, I did tell him that when I
- 7:16paid my when I got my taxes, I would pay him, but I've
- 7:19not got my taxes back yet. And then she gives some story about her
- 7:23son's godmother mother. Something happened where she's being audited and she never got the
- 7:28money. That's what she's saying, that's your story. She's taking to it.
- 7:30Mathis just holds up the flyer and does a full like seriously faced like
- 7:34this. That's what he does, full bit. Do we get back to
- 7:40the promisory note? We do? Okay. He says, So you're sealing
- 7:43a thousand dollars for harassment. What's the harassment for? What's what is he
- 7:46doing? She says, Well, he comes around my house drunk. He's
- 7:49got his friends out in the yard. They're yelling and screaming where's my money.
- 7:53I've got a witness here. He'll tell you the same thing. Witness
- 7:55gets up and said, what's your name? She says, Tyra Banks.
- 7:58Now no not, she says, is not. And Judge Mathis says,
- 8:03state your name for the court record, and she says Tyra Banks. She
- 8:09does twice. She says tier Banks, and then it's never addressed again.
- 8:16It was not the tire Banks. It was a tire Banks. As far
- 8:20as I can figure is her laughter? No, maybe I misheard it.
- 8:24Eh, yes, ma'am. Come on up. What's your name, Tyra
- 8:28Banks? State your name for the court, please, Tyra Banks. Then
- 8:31we just move. That's that. That's it, man. Tyra then says
- 8:35Tyra Banks says Cordero has been there too, you know, at two and
- 8:39three am, drunk on her lawn, being loud and being rude. Matthew
- 8:41says, when does this happen? She said a couple months ago, and
- 8:45he says, no, I'm not buying this couple of you know, you
- 8:48guys aren't giving me any specifics at all. He called the cops. He
- 8:50called the cops. You get a rapport, asked yeah. But then he
- 8:54says, Cordera, have you been in the house, And he said,
- 8:56yeah, I've been there now with my friends. But I've been there.
- 8:58And he says, well, why'd you go to house? And he says,
- 9:00she owes me money to collect debt debt, and Matthis says, you
- 9:03can't do that. You cannot show up to collect debt on someone's property.
- 9:07You cannot do that. Gabrielle, Well, I remember last name has a
- 9:11point, so and tire let's get to the promisory note. He says,
- 9:15you have a promisory note for the babysitting. We get the promisory note.
- 9:18The promisory note says that the babysitting and furniture are both In the note.
- 9:24It says that she owes him not just for the babysitting, but for the
- 9:28furniture. What and it says, does it say anything about the tax returns?
- 9:33Or does she say, I just promise to pay you this much by
- 9:37this time, by the way, by this time, all right, just
- 9:39mathis ready? Yeah, I get I don't I understand. Just mitther there's't
- 9:45a fan of the tax return, boy, but this is the way to
- 9:48do it. You do a promisory note. You're a big promisory note boy,
- 9:52I'm a promisory keeper. Yes. I don't know why this is so
- 9:56hard. Guys, If you are that, if you are serious about collecting
- 10:01the money that is owed to you, and the person next to you is
- 10:05willing to sign a promisory note, do it. Do it because you're gonna
- 10:09go to court and you'll get that money. Get the money. That's right,
- 10:11he's gonna get the money. She's not gonna get anything for him showing
- 10:13up. Maybe she'll get a little something. I don't know. He seemed
- 10:16really bothered by that. Yeah, all right, so this is great.
- 10:20He says, I'm gonna give you a thousand dollars and then he looks at
- 10:22the promisory note. He goes, this has the furniture on it too.
- 10:26Mam, you owe him for the furniture. You owe the full amount.
- 10:28And she says, no, you're honor he added the furniture after the fact.
- 10:31Oh. And then he says, no, he did not, and
- 10:35he reads it to her and there's no way where the sentences. It's in
- 10:39the middle of the sentence. Yeah, And he said he did not add
- 10:43it after the fact. You just lied to me. Why would you do
- 10:46that? And for your perjury, I'm gonna dismiss your plane. Judge been
- 10:50in favor of the plaintiff, hammers. The dabbler walks off. She had
- 10:56one thousand dollars if she kept her mouth shut in and he said, and
- 10:58he literally is walking out of the courtroom shaking his head, and he goes,
- 11:01when you get a win, you take the win. And he walks
- 11:05out. It is great. So he got twenty three hundo and she got
- 11:09nothing. So he would he would have had he would have gotten in thirteen
- 11:11hundred and now he got an extra k that would have been in her pocket.
- 11:15I'm bad, I mean, come on, not bad. So great
- 11:20what you got for me, Judy Park, I got Judy, I got
- 11:22Judy. What is it called Judy Justice? Judy Justice so an IMDb TV
- 11:26which you can watch through Prime IMDb for free. But it has ads which
- 11:31stung yet how many ads? And a judge Judy? There was two breaks?
- 11:39Okay, all right, faireness like sixty seconds each and it's not bad.
- 11:41But this is a long case and it's really not that exciting, so
- 11:46okay, but it was the first I felt like I should up selling.
- 11:48I thought I should watch the pilot. Yeah, of course this was the
- 11:52pilot. It wasn't interesting. It is an interesting version of a not super
- 12:01interesting scenario. Scenario. God, I want to introduce your Savannah Bruce.
- 12:05Savannah Bruce is suing Diana Bellefontaine for ten thousand dollars. Oh wow, big
- 12:13steaks for loss of income and false charges. Diana Bellafontaine is countersuing for ten
- 12:20thousand dollars for attorney fees and assaults. Are you ready to dive into illegal
- 12:24sauce. I'm ready to dive in legal sauce. Savannah. Savannah was an
- 12:28Uber driver for about two years. You were an Uber driver, Danny.
- 12:31You know what it's like. You know what it's like. There's some money
- 12:33involved there. You get some money in that one. That was her job.
- 12:37She did do it for about two years. She also happens to have
- 12:41asthma. Now this is this is important because this situation took place in July
- 12:46of twenty twenty. Do you know what was going on in July of twenty
- 12:50twenty. COVID a little thing that we call a global pandemic. She has
- 12:54a respiratorial exactly right. Some might call that immuno comp immuno compromisation. So
- 13:03it's July of twenty twenty and she comes to a car wash to wash your
- 13:07car. Uber drive. You gotta keep them sucker clean. Come on,
- 13:11and she was waiting in line and this car wash, now this is the
- 13:16time I'm imagining it. We don't see any overhead shots, but the car
- 13:20wash that I go to in town on ten dollars Tuesdays. Yeah, yeah,
- 13:22I know what is super suck. Yeah, it's a great deal,
- 13:26great deal because get the full boy, get the full boy, half the
- 13:28press twenty five dollars normally twenty bucks. It's great. They just added a
- 13:33new higher one specially doing they are they getting out and just I don't know,
- 13:37man, Like, here's the thing about the car washes. They're just
- 13:41adding colors and stuff now and they're calling it more clean, and I don't
- 13:45know. I have no idea. They're just dumping more colors on the car
- 13:48because they know people like me just get the highest wash. Yeah, I
- 13:52just hit the high boys. I don't go. You don't hit the low
- 13:54boy. I do sometimes I hid the low boy and I'm out. I'm
- 13:58ten dollars two days. I do ten dollars, is boy, But why
- 14:01I wouldn't. It's not anymore though. It's what I'm saying. Our tuesdays
- 14:03is now anyways, So you know what? You know what Sonic said,
- 14:07there's two payment areas, right, and then yeah, is it really?
- 14:13And then it comes into you add and add more colors to get another pan,
- 14:16and then it merges into one thing cors. So the two lanes were
- 14:24merging into one, and she thought that it was her turn and was trying
- 14:30to to go next, and Diana isn't having it. Diana is trying to
- 14:35do we have any video. We don't have any video, but if you
- 14:37can imagine this, Diana is you know, she's in the lane already.
- 14:41She she says she is. She says she is, she is. However
- 14:46way you you dice it. She ended up being further ahead, okay,
- 14:54but Savannah claims that she cut in front of her. Diana claims that she
- 15:01that Savannah was where Huh. This is all about where the cars hit.
- 15:03There's no hitting of cars, okay, So either way there's emerging happening.
- 15:09Savannah was trying to get ahead because she thought that it was her place in
- 15:11time, in line. Uh. Diana says that it's her place and time
- 15:16and she's not gonna give Savannah any wiggle room to try to get in front
- 15:20of her. That there you go. So so Diana ends up getting out
- 15:28of the car and coming to Savannah's car to say, hey, stop trying
- 15:33to get in front of me type of thing they uh uh. Savannah says
- 15:39that Diana then stuck her head into her car by her window is open.
- 15:43It was a nice day outside. She doesn't like to run the ac when
- 15:46she's sitting in line, so car wash your windows up. Well, she's
- 15:50gonna put it. She's gonna put it. And she says that she stuck
- 15:54her head into the car. So at this point that she took a pringles
- 15:58can and bopped her in the in the face. Diana's head, Yes,
- 16:03it was stuck in her car. Yes, go and so she has asthma.
- 16:10She's not comfortable with the fact that somebody's head is in her car,
- 16:14yelling cod and so she bops her, bobs her in the head with a
- 16:17with a pringles can. Diana goes back to her car. Savannah decides,
- 16:22I'm not going to wait around to see what happens next. I'm worried she's
- 16:25gonna go to the car, come back, retaliate something like that. So
- 16:29she does uh, does a little dipsy doozies and ends up being able to
- 16:32ta get out and she leaves. So Diana ends up purporting this assault to
- 16:38the police. One day, the police find Savannah, they arrest her for
- 16:45assaults and this ends up going to court. Now, not the trials of
- 16:52being heard. This is a preliminary trial to see if it will end up
- 16:55being hurt. You know what, I'm talking about you. So in the
- 16:57preliminary hearing of this case, they basically say that that what Savannah says happened
- 17:04and that it is battery. But because she could make the argument that she
- 17:11was threatened, the the the jury or whatever might say that she's innocent,
- 17:19she's not at fault, and so we're just gonna throw out the case.
- 17:22We're not gonna like threw it out. Who's suing who? Here? Diana
- 17:25sue and Savannah. Uh, Savannah is suing Diana. Diana is countersuing.
- 17:29Savannah is the one that did the did the bottle? I know? So
- 17:32I know Savannah is in her card. Diana's heads through the window. Make
- 17:33sure. So so it gets starting out. We see this, uh this
- 17:37cored document in the court document. It says that it's a water bottle and
- 17:44not a not a pringles and there's some uh witnesses that that give that credence.
- 17:56Judge Judy says, now you're here trying to get two thousand dollars because
- 18:00Uber won't give you your job back after the dismissal. So once she got
- 18:03charged with battery, Uber fired her. Yeah, and she's not Now that
- 18:10has been dismissed. She's they're still not letting her back on the app.
- 18:12Wow. So she's saying, I have lost at least ten thousand dollars in
- 18:15ways because of this, and so it's been months and so now I'm now
- 18:19I'm here. So Diana says, this is Diana's version of the story.
- 18:23So she claims that she was in line, she was coming into the mergy
- 18:29times, that's right, And she is in sitting in line for thirty to
- 18:33forty five seconds, and suddenly Savannah comes very quickly and is trying to weasel
- 18:37her way in front of it, and she's trying to communicate with her,
- 18:41Hey, it's my turn, But she can't make eye contact with Savannah because
- 18:48her windows are because Savannah's windows are tinted, which Savannah does say that the
- 18:52windows are tented her driver's store, so she's on the right side. She
- 18:57can't make eye contact because of tinted windows. So she decides the best course
- 19:02of action here is to get out of the car and to tell her what's
- 19:06going on. So she goes and she admits words were exchange, profanities were
- 19:12used by both people, and all of a sudden, Savannah hits her with
- 19:18a heavy duty water bottle. You know those. Uh she brings in a
- 19:23water bottle like an analgia exactly, that's exactly right. Yeah, hard,
- 19:27hard case. And she says, unlike the one that I have here in
- 19:30court. This water bottle had water and I think somebody it was heavy.
- 19:33Yeah, and uh it get a cup right above my lip. There's a
- 19:38big cup. We see pictures of that. And uh, while I was
- 19:42in the hospital feeling overwhelmed, I ended up having a heart attack. Good
- 19:48gosh, they sound like personal injury court. So she has a heart attack,
- 19:52Uh because of because of this, or so she claims. And uh
- 19:56so that's why she assuming. We see pictures, we see the hospital bills,
- 20:00we see good this is all. This is all confirmed. So we
- 20:06then see the police report, and the police report says that Savannah claims that
- 20:10she didn't hit her at all. In the initial police report, Savannah says,
- 20:15I didn't hit her at all. Savannah pipes up and says, that's
- 20:17not what I said. I said I didn't hit her with a water bottle.
- 20:19Judge Judy says, that's not what it says here. It says here
- 20:22in the police report that you didn't hit her at all. So either you
- 20:26were lying of the police or you're lying to us now, so at some
- 20:29point you were you were lying. This is what the police report says.
- 20:34And then in the police report there's a witness. The witness is not here
- 20:38in court. The witness gave a statement to the police, and the witness
- 20:45states that he saw, uh, Diane No get hit with a water bottle
- 20:52on her face. Okay, okay, Now Judy is ready to rule.
- 20:59Okay, and in part because of the witness statement, good, Uh give
- 21:04me the numbers again, ten thousand, both ways, both ways? Yeah,
- 21:07Okay, it's hard was her Did we ever confirm her head was in
- 21:11the window. All I will say is the witness says that he saw her
- 21:18get hit with a water bottle. Okay, Diana's getting ten grand. And
- 21:23what's wild is is that I really want to side with Savannah. Somebody comes
- 21:26and put there, puts their head in your car. That stings, But
- 21:30I just feel like they threw it out in court. We're gonna pay for
- 21:33her bills. Ten for Diana, nothing for Savannah. You are correct,
- 21:38and the amount of money. Here's what she says. The witness saying that
- 21:42he saw a water bottle hit her face, means her head was not in
- 21:48her car. Oh, because he couldn't see that. He couldn't see it
- 21:49if it was in the car. So here's the thing. Words never make
- 21:55it okay for you to strike somebody with an object. Correct, and your
- 21:59arrogant is astronomical. And thinking that she owes you money while it was.
- 22:04You're the one that's responsible for her split lip, and you're the one responsible
- 22:08for her hospital stay, and you're the one responsible for you losing your job.
- 22:12All right, Judy, you struck her. It's your responsibility. You
- 22:17need to learn self control, and maybe you shouldn't work as a driver if
- 22:19you're Immunal compromise during a pandemic got them ten thousand dollars to Diana, nothing
- 22:26for Savannah. It's one of those weird cases where the person suing gets nothing
