April 6 - Compassion in the Waiting · Bible Chat Devotional

• 0:02
Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
• 0:06
rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, April 6th.
• 0:11
Full and faithful. There are days when you can do
• 0:14
everything on your list and still feel empty inside.
• 0:18
You can be busy, productive, surrounded by people and still
• 0:21
carry a hunger that nothing around you seems able to fill.
• 0:25
Proverbs chapter 13 verse 25 says the righteous has enough to
• 0:30
satisfy his appetite. Psalm chapter 40 verse 4 says
• 0:35
blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust.
• 0:38
And in Mark chapter 6 verses 42 to 43, after Jesus feeds the
• 0:42
crowd, we are told they all ate and were satisfied.
• 0:47
  That word satisfied is beautiful.
• 0:50
Not distracted, not temporarily impressed, satisfied.
• 0:54
Jesus took what seemed too small and turned it into more than
• 0:57
enough. He fed the crowd and there were
• 0:59
leftovers. That is what God is like.
• 1:02
He is not limited by the smallness of what you bring Him.
• 1:05
He is able to provide, sustain, and satisfy in ways you could
• 1:09
not create for yourself. But many of us still try to fill
• 1:13
our emptiness with other things. We chase attention, achievement,
• 1:17
  control, comfort, or constant entertainment.
• 1:21
We tell ourselves that once we get a little more, feel a little
• 1:24
more seen, or accomplish a little more than we will finally
• 1:27
feel full. But those things do not satisfy
• 1:30
the deepest parts of us. They only distract us for a
• 1:34
  while. Real satisfaction comes from
• 1:37
trusting the Lord. It comes from knowing that your
• 1:39
life is held by someone who sees your needs and cares about them.
• 1:44
It comes from bringing your hunger, your lack, and your
• 1:47
weariness to Jesus and letting Him meet you there.
• 1:50
Sometimes He provides by changing your circumstances.
• 1:54
Sometimes He provides by strengthening your heart in the
• 1:56
middle of them. Either way, He is faithful
• 2:00
today. Do not settle for the empty
• 2:02
promises that keep leaving you hungry.
• 2:05
Bring your need to the One who still fills hearts, still
• 2:07
multiplies grace, and still satisfies those who trust Him.
• 2:11
Let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank You that
• 2:14
You are the One who truly satisfies.
• 2:17
Forgive me for the times I look everywhere else to fill what
• 2:20
only You can fill. Teach me to trust You with my
• 2:22
needs, my future and the empty places in my heart.
• 2:27
Give me peace and place of striving and remind me that Your
• 2:30
provision is enough for me today.
• 2:32
Help me stay full in You and faithful to You in Jesus name,
• 2:36
Amen. What if you could rise up and
• 2:42
declare with full spiritual authority, I shall not die, but
• 2:46
live? Death Defeated is a powerful

with God in today's three-year Bible reading plan.
• 3:45
Proverbs chapter 13, verses 24 to 25 World English Bible.
• 3:50
One who spares the rod hates his son, but one who loves him is
• 3:54
careful to discipline him. The righteous one eats to the
• 3:57
satisfying of his soul, but the belly of the wicked goes hungry.
• 4:01
Psalm chapter 40 World English Bible for the chief musician A
• 4:06
Psalm by David. I waited patiently for Yahweh.
• 4:10
He turned to me and heard my cry.
• 4:12
He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry
• 4:15
clay. He set my feet on a rock and
• 4:18
gave me a firm place to stand. He has put a new song in my
• 4:21
  mouth. Even.
• 4:22
Praise to our God. Many shall see it and fear and
• 4:25
shall trust in Yahweh. Blessed is the man who makes
• 4:29
Yahweh his trust and doesn't respect the proud, nor such as
• 4:33
turn away to lies. Many, Yahweh my God, are the
• 4:37
wonderful works which you have done and your thoughts which are
• 4:40
toward us. They can't be declared back to
• 4:42
you. If I would declare and speak of
• 4:45
them, they are more than can be counted.
• 4:47
Sacrifice and offering you didn't desire.
• 4:50
You have opened my ears. You have not required burnt
• 4:53
offering and sin offering. Then I said, behold, I have
• 4:57
come. It is written about me in the
• 4:59
book in the scroll. I delight to do your will, my
• 5:01
God. Yes, Your law is within my
• 5:04
heart. I have proclaimed glad news of
• 5:06
  righteousness in the great Assembly.
• 5:08
Behold, I will not seal my lips. Yahweh, you know I have not
• 5:13
hidden Your righteousness within my heart.
• 5:15
I have declared Your faithfulness and Your salvation.
• 5:18
I have not concealed Your loving kindness and Your truth from the
• 5:21
great Assembly. Don't withhold Your tender
• 5:25
mercies from me, Yahweh. Let Your loving kindness and
• 5:28
Your truth continually preserve me, for innumerable evils have
• 5:32
surrounded me. My iniquities have overtaken me
• 5:35
so that I am not able to look up.
• 5:37
They are more than the hairs of my head.
• 5:39
My heart has failed me. Be pleased, Yahweh, to deliver
• 5:42
me. Hurry to help me, Yahweh.
• 5:45
Let them be disappointed and confounded together who seek
• 5:48
after my soul to destroy it. Let them be turned backward and
• 5:52
brought to dishonor who delight in my hurt.
• 5:55
Let them be desolate by reason of their shame.
• 5:57
That tell me, Aha, Aha. Let all those who seek You
• 6:01
rejoice and be glad in you. Let such as love your salvation.
• 6:05
Say continually. Let Yahweh be exalted.
• 6:08
But I am poor and needy. May the Lord think about me.
• 6:11
You are my help and my deliverer.
• 6:13
Don't delay my God. Mark Chapter 6 World English
• 6:18
Bible He went out from there. He came into his own country,
• 6:21
and his disciples followed him. When the Sabbath had come, he
• 6:25
began to teach in the synagogue, and many hearing him were
• 6:28
astonished, saying, Where did this man get these things?
• 6:32
And what is the wisdom that is given to this man, that such
• 6:36
mighty works come about by his hands?
• 6:39
Isn't this the Carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of
• 6:42
James? Jose is Judah and Simon, Aren't
• 6:45
his sisters here with us? So they were offended at him.
• 6:49
Jesus said to them, A prophet is not without honor except in his
• 6:53
own country and among his own relatives and in his own house.
• 6:56
He could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his
• 7:00
hands on a few sick people and healed them.
• 7:04
He marveled because of their unbelief.
• 7:06
He went around the villages teaching.
• 7:09
He called to himself the 12 and began to send them out two by
• 7:12
two, and he gave them authority over the unclean spirits.
• 7:17
He commanded them that they should take nothing for their
• 7:19
journey except a staff only. No bread, no wallet, no money in
• 7:23
their purse but to wear sandals and not put on 2 tunics.
• 7:28
He said to them, Wherever you enter into a house, stay there
• 7:31
until you depart from there. Whoever will not receive you nor
• 7:35
hear you as you depart from there, shake off the dust that
• 7:39
is under your feet for a testimony against them.
• 7:42
Assuredly I tell you it will be more tolerable for Sodom and
• 7:46
Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city.
• 7:49
They went out and preached that people should repent.
• 7:52
They cast out many demons and anointed many with oil who were
• 7:55
sick, and healed them. King Herod heard this, for his
• 7:59
name had become known, and he said John the Baptizer has risen
• 8:03
from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him.
• 8:07
But others said he is Elijah. Others said he is a prophet or
• 8:12
like one of the prophets. But Herod, when he heard this,
• 8:15
said, This is John who might be headed, He has risen from the
• 8:19
dead. For Herod himself had sent out
• 8:22
and arrested John, and bound him in prison for the sake of
• 8:24
  Herodias his brother Philip's wife.
• 8:27
For he had married her. For John had said to Herod, It
• 8:31
is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife.
• 8:34
Herodias set herself against him and desired to kill him, but she
• 8:37
couldn't. For Herod feared John, knowing
• 8:41
that he was a righteous and holy man, and kept him safe.
• 8:45
When he heard him, he did many things, and he heard him gladly.
• 8:49
Then a convenient day came, when Herod on his birthday made a
• 8:52
supper for his nobles, the high officers, and the chief men of
• 8:55
Galilee. When the daughter of Herodias
• 8:58
herself came in and danced, she pleased Herod and those sitting
• 9:02
with him. The king said to the young lady,
• 9:05
Ask me whatever you want, and I will give it to you.
• 9:08
He swore to her, Whatever you ask of me, I will give you up to
• 9:12
half of my Kingdom. She went out and said to her
• 9:15
mother, what shall I ask? She said the head of John the
• 9:18
Baptizer. She came in immediately with
• 9:20
haste to the king and requested, I want you to give me right now
• 9:25
the head of John the Baptizer on a platter.
• 9:27
The king was exceedingly sorry, but for the sake of his oaths
• 9:31
and of his dinner guests, he didn't wish to refuse her.
• 9:35
Immediately the king sent out a soldier of his guard and
• 9:38
commanded to bring John's head, and he went and beheaded him in
• 9:42
the prison, and brought his head on a platter and gave it to the
• 9:45
young lady, and the young lady gave it to her mother.
• 9:50
When his disciples heard this, they came and took up his corpse
• 9:53
and laid it in a tomb. The apostles gathered themselves
• 9:57
together to Jesus, and they told him all things.
• 10:00
Whatever they had done and whatever they had taught, He
• 10:04
said to them, Come away into a deserted place and rest a while,
• 10:08
for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure
• 10:11
so much as to eat. They went away in the boat to a
• 10:14
deserted place by themselves. They saw them going, and many
• 10:18
recognized Him, and ran there on foot from all the cities.
• 10:22
They arrived before them and came together to Him.
• 10:25
Jesus came out, saw a great multitude, and He had compassion
• 10:29
on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd, and He
• 10:32
began to teach them many things. When it was late in the day, his
• 10:36
disciples came to him and said, This place is deserted and it is
• 10:40
late in the day, Send them away, that they may go into the
• 10:44
surrounding country and villages and buy themselves bread, for
• 10:48
they have nothing to eat. But he answered them, you give
• 10:52
them something to eat. They asked him, shall we go and
• 10:55
buy 200 denarii worth of bread and give them something to eat?
• 10:59
He said to them, How many loaves do you have?
• 11:02
Go see. When they knew, they said five
• 11:05
and two fish. He commanded them that everyone
• 11:07
should sit down in groups on the green grass.
• 11:10
They sat down in ranks by hundreds and by 50s.
• 11:14
He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to
• 11:17
heaven, he blessed and broke the loaves, and he gave to his
• 11:20
disciples to set before them. And he divided the 2 fish among
• 11:24
them all. They all ate and were filled.
• 11:27
They took up 12 baskets full of broken pieces and also of the
• 11:31
fish. Those who ate the loaves were
• 11:33
5000 men. Immediately he made his
• 11:36
disciples get into the boat and go ahead to the other side to
• 11:40
Bethsaida, while he himself sent the multitude away.
• 11:44
After he had taken leave of them, he went up the mountain to
• 11:47
pray. When evening had come, the boat
• 11:49
was in the middle of the sea, and he was alone on the land,
• 11:53
seeing them distressed in rowing, for the wind was
• 11:56
contrary to them. About the fourth watch of the
• 11:58
night he came to them walking on the sea, and he would have
• 12:01
passed by them, but they, when they saw him walking on the sea,
• 12:06
suppose that it was a ghost, and cried out, for they all saw him
• 12:10
and were troubled. But he immediately spoke with
• 12:13
them and said to them, Cheer up it is I don't be afraid.
• 12:18
He got into the boat with them, and the wind ceased, and they
• 12:21
were very amazed among themselves and marvelled, for
• 12:24
they hadn't understood about the loaves, but their hearts were
• 12:27
hardened. When they had crossed over.
• 12:30
They came to land at Jenniserat and moored to the shore.
• 12:34
When they had come out of the boat, immediately the people
• 12:37
recognized him, and ran around that whole region, and began to
• 12:41
bring those who were sick on their mats to where they heard
• 12:43
he was. Wherever he entered into
• 12:47
villages or into cities or into the country, they laid the sick
• 12:50
in the marketplaces and begged him that they might just touch
• 12:53
the fringe of his garment. And as many as touched him were
• 12:57
made well. Thanks for joining us on Bible
