- 0:21SPEAKER_00: If this is your first time listening, welcome.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: You have stumbled across the Back to the Future special that I am doing in honor of October 21st, 2015 was the date in Back to the Future 2, where Doc and Marty travel into the future, which is now, of course, the past since it is 11 years later.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: And I wanted to cover this episode because, well, first of all, I'm a huge fan of the Back to the Future trilogy.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: I grew up with them.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: I love all three movies.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: It's one of my favorite sequel-based series.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: I mean, I have quite a few Star Wars Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Back to the Future, just a great, great series.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: And I wanted to cover a specific scene from Back to the Future Part 2 today because I think it's very, well, it's very pertinent to where we're going to go after we finish up the Doctor Sleep series, which that final episode will be coming out this Friday.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: But Back to the Future Part 2 is going to lead us into our next film uh series, multi-episode series, which is going to be V for Vendetta in honor of the 5th of November coming up, as well as I think it's a great movie kind of showing how if the alternate reality in Back to the Future Part 2 had stayed as it was.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: V for Vendetta is essentially a whole movie based on what happens when you create an alternate reality and live in it.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: So I wanted to use Back to the Future Part 2 to connect that theme into V for Vendetta.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: But essentially, I'm just going to go over one scene here from Back to the Future Part 2, which is the scene where Marty has found himself in an alternate 1985.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: Doc drops him off, you know, in Hill Valley.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: He goes back to his house.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: His house is over, you know, is occupied by a different family.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: He's confused as to what is going on.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: And he, you know, walks across town and everything's different.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: Like Mr.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Strickland doesn't recognize him, and there's like a drive-by that happens, and then he walks over and finds, you know, basically a casino hotel with Biff at the top of it.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: And I couldn't help but think it just reminded me of like a Trump Tower situation.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: And I was like, yeah, we're currently living in an alternate 1985, unfortunately, in America in 2026.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: But it that kind of made me laugh.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: But you gotta laugh at the insanity.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: But he, you know, walks in and sees like a brief history, sees his mother is married to Biff, which really, you know, sends him into a panic.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: And then essentially we just have this like scene where Marty learns that Biff and his mother are together.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: His mother is like a trophy wife, like cosmetically altered, you know, to Biff's liking woman, and she's an alcoholic and she's miserable, and you know, it it's a really bad situation.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: And he goes to a cemetery because his mother tells him that his father has been in the cemetery for years, and then Doc finds Marty at the cemetery, and he explains to him that they are in an alternate 1985.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: And I think this scene is so crucial to understanding a lot of the time, like how our own minds work, how we often live in alternate realities because of fear or because of conditioning or programming.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: And Doc explains to Marty that, you know, there's some like something happened that created this alternate timeline because Marty's like, well, you know, it seems like we're in hell.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: And Doc's like, Yeah, I can't imagine hell being much worse.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: But he goes on the chalkboard and draws this really cool figure, like he just draws, you know, a simple like horizontal line, and then he draws like the the past 1985 and the future on it, and then he takes his chalk and draws a line down a little bit after the past and writes 1985 at the bottom with an A next to it for alternate, and so he's basically telling Marty, like, yeah, something happened in the past that created this alternate 1985, and so Marty's idea, because basically what they come to the conclusion of is that the sports almanac, which Marty wanted to take to 1985 to become rich off sports betting, which hey Marty, great idea.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: I loved a sports bet, by the way.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: I'm a huge fan of sports, and gambling is pretty common in my family, so I was with him on that.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: But it turns out to not be such a good idea because what happens is Biff takes the almanac, old Biff takes the almanac, because Marty throws it away and he ends up giving it to himself in the past.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: So that's what created this alternate 1985 where Biff is rich and powerful and controls everything, and Hill Valley is destroyed because basically he's taken over the entire, you know, area, and so everything is in disarray because he's essentially accumulated all the wealth and just you know built an empire to benefit himself.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: And Doc is telling him that you know we can't fix this from the future because Marty's like, well, let's just go back to the future and I just won't buy the almanac, or I'll stop myself from buying the almanac.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: But the and this is like the crux of what I want to talk about is Doc highlights that they can't change the future from where they are because they're standing in the alternate 1985.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: And I feel like a lot of us try to change things from an alternate place, like from a place that is not our true nature.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: Like if we're in a fear state, for example, like this is kind of how I look at it.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: Like, if you if you make decisions from fear, if you try to change something from fear, then you will create like a future that's the same as your present.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: Like the fear will carry in to the the future.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: Like it doesn't you you can't really make changes from a heightened state and expect calm results, I guess is kind of what I get from this scene.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: And I just thought, I mean, honestly, the storytelling of Back to the Future is so amazing, but I feel like it's such a great example because I always would get like chills when you know, because I can tell when I watch a certain scene like that, you know, this scene is very important in a much deeper way than just for the plot of the story.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: Like, and I really do think that this scene of the alternate 1985, you know, how many of us try to make changes from an altered state, you know, and I mean a lot of us think altered state like we might think of substance, but also it can be like trauma, you know, changes your brain chemistry, or like if you're just in a state of fear and you keep trying to make different decisions from a state of fear and you kind of keep hopping around, but you notice that no matter where you go, the fear follows, and it's like because if you make an decision from that energy state, it doesn't just dissipate, like it has to it, I feel like it's kind of inevitable that it's gonna follow you.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: But the the the calming thing about that is that if you can figure out how to make a change from a centered place, that centeredness will also uh come with you.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: And of course, the natural question is, well, how do I make a decision from you know a state of centeredness?
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: And I would also kind of tie this back to the last episode that I did on the Doctor Sleep series, episode three, where we talked about Danny almost succumbing to his addiction when he's again in a fear state, like he's in a panic state.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: And you could even say that scene kind of created an alternate present because a lot of changes happened that were unintended.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: Like, you know, he never thought that when he faced the true knot that Alba or Alba, Abra's dad would be, you know, murdered, or that Abra would be kidnapped, or that his friend would be killed.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: Like he didn't think any of that would happen, and it created kind of an alternate present with all this fear, all this fear came up for him to face, and instead of reacting to fear with more fear, he was able to go still and make a decision from there.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: And it's like in Back to the Future part two, this is kind of represented as where do we start to reverse this?
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: Because Marty wants to go back to the future, so he wants he's already in a state of panic because he, you know, hates that Hill Valley has been destroyed and and rebuilt on essentially Biff's ego.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: His mom is married to this monster, his dad's, you know, not alive anymore, so he's just panicking.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: Like, well, we need to fix this now, so we need to go back to where I bought the book.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: But Doc very wisely says, Well, we can't because we're in this alternate 1985.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: So if we jump to the future, which I feel like a lot of us do too, like our minds will jump to the future from the alternate reality, and so the future reality looks so terrifying because we're in the alternate reality.
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: And what Doc suggests that they do is go back to the past before all of this happened.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: So they have the newspaper, thankfully, to show that Biff, you know, won his first horse race, I believe, in 1958, and they know that, you know, he probably would have given it to himself like back around when he was a teenager or something like that.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: So they kind of roughly know where to go to fix this because the newspapers do have the the trail of the alternate 1985, so they know where to go.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: And also since Doc and Marty have been there before, since the first movie was about that, they also know roughly what to expect because they've been in that place before.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: And I just think that that is such a great little spiritual nugget that you know is such a short scene, it's only like a few minutes long.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: But I think it really explains like if you want to change an alternate reality type state, you have to like if you're gonna go back to your past, it has to be more from a state of like exploring and curiosity versus I need to fix this, I need to fix this, because and I mean it's very much easier said than done because when you're in an alternate reality state in the present, you know, it's it's you just want to be at peace and and relieved and calm because it's very uncomfortable being, you know, dysregulated.
- 11:33SPEAKER_00: That's a very uncomfortable place to be.
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: And I wanted to talk about in the personal mirror here, about how I just made this like a pretty significant discovery, at least just a few days into this now, as I'm recording this, because I've been in a little bit of a slump in terms of like my mental state.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: And you know, I've I've talked about my anxiety and and stuff on this channel, but a lot of days, like I would wake up, you know, anxious.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: And I talked about my experience that I had at the hotel recently with the rainfall shower and like these little you know, sensory pleasures and being present.
- 12:15SPEAKER_00: And I feel like I've had the spiritual groundwork laid for several years.
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: Like I have wonderful tools that have really made a huge difference in my life.
- 12:25SPEAKER_00: Like meditation has been huge, and you know, just like kind of doing these practices where like I'll center myself and voluntarily go visit places where trauma happened and you know, talk to my inner child or my parts as as I would call them.
- 12:47SPEAKER_00: But I think the missing piece or one of the missing pieces for me was just having a mind that was that had a baseline that was a lot calmer than my typical baseline.
- 13:00SPEAKER_00: And I kind of liken it to like a knob, like if if you're turned to a six, like let's say six is your baseline, six out of ten, which probably would would be mine, and then something minor happens, like let's say a two, you know, and then you're up to an eight.
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: So eight out of ten, like, is pretty intense, right?
- 13:18SPEAKER_00: But I kind of realized in the last few days because I bought these these tablets or capsules magnesium supplement, and I bought it because there was this channel, and if I can find it, I'm gonna link it in this episode because I got the idea to take magnesium from this channel on YouTube, and I did, you know, do a little research on it and find out like it was lab tested, and the reviews have been really, really good for it, but I decided to take the magnesium because I had bought it a while ago, but I never took it.
- 13:54SPEAKER_00: And I took, you know, the the recommended dose, and when I woke up the next day, like this was a few days ago, I felt well, first of all, I slept through the night, and I haven't slept through the night in a long time.
- 14:09SPEAKER_00: Like maybe I have would have like a one-off day here and there that I would sleep through the night, but I actually slept through the night this time.
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: And I did wake up kind of groggy, I had a slight headache, but the the thing I noticed was I did not wake up anxious because a lot of the time I would just wake up anxious for no particular reason.
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: It wasn't like I had something going on that day or I heard some really disturbing news, you know, or had a personal tragedy or anything.
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: It was just I would wake up anxious.
- 14:39SPEAKER_00: And so I'm like, well, if I wake up anxious, how the hell do I get how can I get myself to a state of calm if I wake up stressed?
- 14:47SPEAKER_00: Like I it's not like you can even say I thought my way into it.
- 14:50SPEAKER_00: Like I literally woke up and bam, I'm I'm stressed out for no reason.
- 14:54SPEAKER_00: So I've noticed with the magnesium, this is a couple days in of taking it at night, that like I'm waking up and I'm not anxious.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: My sleep, when I do sleep, like last night I actually was up pretty late, but that's also because I took a nap because I'm on leave from work currently right now, so I'm not on a set schedule.
- 15:18SPEAKER_00: But I've noticed that like I wake up and I'm not anxious, and I also have like the energy that used to go into anxiety has been freed up to go other places, which was quite a bit of energy for me.
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: So that's been interesting.
- 15:36SPEAKER_00: But I I was kind of thinking about you know the Back to the Future special with the alternate 1985.
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: I almost feel like my mind was in an alternate 1985, and I were like my primary approach to dealing with that has been therapy, has been, you know, self-care, like trying to take care of myself in the in the customary ways that's recommended, like, you know, eat decently, get enough exercise, get you know, get enough sleep.
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: And those are, I think, really great boosts and additions.
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: But I think if your, you know, baseline mental state is a little bit off, or in my case, probably decently off, like that, you can do those things, but those are boosters.
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: Like it's almost like the foundation is 50%, and maybe the boosters are another 50%.
- 16:29SPEAKER_00: But like if you don't have the foundation of homeostasis in anywhere, like in your mind, in your body, whatever, all those boosters are gonna help, but they're not gonna, it's almost gonna feel like you don't have a solid floor underneath them.
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: Like, and then it can get into this weird thing if you've ever experienced this, where you're doing all these things that are correct, like all these right tools, but you still feel, you know, uneasy.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: And so you're thinking, well, am I employing these tools wrong?
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: You know, why aren't these tools working?
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: And then it starts to become you get anxious about having the anxiety because you're doing so much, you're you're doing so many things to try to lessen the anxiety, but the anxiety is persistent.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: And I've kind of noticed like in the last few days with the magnesium, is I just take it, you know, about an hour or two before bed, and I have this little routine where like I take a shower at night, you know, hot shower, and take the magnesium, and I do journal at the end of the day, like a gratitude journal.
- 17:30SPEAKER_00: So I was doing all these different things, but like adding the magnesium in first of all is helping me sleep through the night, helping me sleep consistently because I would wake up in the middle of the night a lot of the time, and uh for the last few days I've slept through the night, which is very, very rare.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: So, you know, I think that my mind may have been like, or my chemistry, you know, like all the compounds that you need for stability, maybe for me, magnesium was lacking.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: And I kind of was talking to one of my friends about it because like intrusive thoughts type things, like you know, uh mine, depending on how I was feeling, which a lot of the time my baseline was probably not where it needed to be.
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: Thoughts would not just bounce off of me, they would kind of take up resonance, and then rumination would happen, and it it was like it was very difficult to pull myself away from it.
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: Like it took a lot of effort to not feel that way.
- 18:37SPEAKER_00: And I feel like taking magnesium, it's almost like the thoughts just bounce off.
- 18:42SPEAKER_00: Like, I'll still have the same thoughts, but they don't latch on like they were before.
- 18:46SPEAKER_00: And I don't know, you know, I'm obviously not a neurologist or like a brain or science expert or anything like that, but I wonder if like the magnesium has basically just made it so that it's harder for those thoughts to latch on and take up resonance.
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: Because I know it talks about like the calming effects and the GABA and the binding to the neuroreceptors, and you know, I don't know how all of that works intricately with thoughts, but I've definitely noticed a huge difference where my tools almost feel like yes, like this is an addition to this is like to you know boost the feeling, but it's not the foundation for the feeling.
- 19:26SPEAKER_00: And I feel like my my brain, whatever was going on, you know, neurochemically, is the foundation, and those other things are boosts, and so it's like I was trying to reach a state of calm from an alternate state, an alternate 1985, when I just had to go, well, not necessarily back into the past, but I had to like I because I feel like I've kind of gone back into the past to unlearn and rebuild from the trauma that I've had, but I was still missing the piece of just the foundation of what my brain would do if it had all of the components it needed.
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: And I guess for me, magnesium was one of them because it's really been hitting everything for me that it talks about it can help with the sleep, which is a domino effect because if you sleep well, then you have you know, you're more balanced because you got a full night's rest and you're not your body does repair at night and stuff, so if you're not getting into the deep sleep, like that can affect other things.
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: But really for me, it's been the morning anxiety that's not there anymore.
- 20:38SPEAKER_00: Like that the last few days I haven't had morning anxiety, and that is very rare.
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: I haven't I've pretty much had that, I mean, most days for years, so that's incredible.
- 20:51SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I wanted to go ahead and just take this day to honor Back to the Future Part 2 for that one scene because I really think it can teach us a lot about like just like the crucial lesson of it is to not try to make decisions about your future from an alternate 1985 state.
- 21:12SPEAKER_00: We need to go back to our baseline, you know, because even when Doc draws the picture, it's kind of you can look at it as a baseline.
- 21:20SPEAKER_00: I know it's a timeline, but it's that one steady line, you know, and then the alternate 1985 skews way far down, and it's like, yeah, like our trauma can do that, like it can it can be a line that skews us way far down, and then we try to make changes from that way far down place, like from the trauma brain place.
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: And I think for each person, obviously, like the makeup of how to heal that and how to attend to that is gonna look different.
- 21:52SPEAKER_00: Like it could be psychological, primarily, or physiological, you know.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: It's gonna depend on your specific makeup and your specific set of you know issues that you're dealing with.
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: Um, so I wouldn't say obviously it's not a one size fits all, like, oh, just take some magnesium, you'll be fine.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: You know, for you if if you've done like how I've done a lot of like the soul and the trauma work and the, you know, trying to reclaim my parts and understanding how all that fits together.
- 22:24SPEAKER_00: I really think for me, it was just final puzzle piece of the homeostasis puzzle to have a compound that I was obviously lacking, and it really has made a huge difference just in the last few days.
- 22:37SPEAKER_00: So I wanted to go ahead and share that as my personal mirror and then to go ahead and get into the divine dialogue questions for you.
- 22:50SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 22:51SPEAKER_00: So I think I'm just gonna go with one today here.
- 22:54SPEAKER_00: So essentially, I want you to think about for me like what in your life is it one thing or is it a bunch of things that you would say are alternate 1985 states?
- 23:07SPEAKER_00: Like, because I really do think that we can feel this in us, like it's it's like disjointed, it's it's fragmented, like it's something that's forced its way in that doesn't belong to who you are underneath it all.
- 23:22SPEAKER_00: But I would want you to think about what is something that is an alternate 1985 state or you know, I guess series of events that have created a certain way of being for you that feels unnatural, that feels like it's against who you really are.
- 23:40SPEAKER_00: Like, I want you to go ahead and identify that for me, like what you think it might be and kind of trace it back and like really ask yourself like where did I skew off of my baseline into this tangent?
- 23:54SPEAKER_00: Like, what was that catalyst for that?
- 23:57SPEAKER_00: Because I think if we can find that catalyst, like, and I mean it could be multiple things, but I really do think that there's like threshold moments like that where there's something that really just kind of re-rerouted you, like redirected you.
- 24:12SPEAKER_00: And I think if you can find that specific event or series of events, or it could be like a thought that came into your mind that really like you just grabbed hold of and it pulled you away.
- 24:25SPEAKER_00: And there might have been some truth to it, but it wasn't the ultimate truth, and like where you are right now, you can feel the disjunction.
- 24:33SPEAKER_00: So I kind of want to focus on that.
- 24:35SPEAKER_00: Like, think about and tell me in the comments, or if you haven't liked and shared and subscribed the show, please do.
- 24:42SPEAKER_00: Episodes do drop every Friday at 9 a.m.
- 24:46SPEAKER_00: Arizona time, and I also do specials like this Back to the Future special.
- 24:50SPEAKER_00: Um, I don't believe there's any specials planned for the immediate future, but I'll be seeing if there's one that calls out to me.
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: But after the conclusion of the Doctor Sleep series this Friday, we'll we will be jumping into V for Vendetta, and I will be releasing an episode on the 5th of November since that is the, you know, anniversary essentially, or the meaningful date of the movie.
- 25:14SPEAKER_00: Not really sure how many episodes that's gonna be, but I do know that I'm kind of gonna continue this theme of like alternate reality, and also like there will be a special.
- 25:25SPEAKER_00: Actually, I forgot about this as well.
- 25:27SPEAKER_00: There will be another special before V for Vendetta that we will get into, which I will announce at the conclusion of the Doctor Sleep series, so stay tuned for that as well.
- 25:37SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be a two-parter Halloween special.
- 25:40SPEAKER_00: But yes, if you haven't liked, shared, subscribed, followed, please do on the show.
- 25:45SPEAKER_00: I do launch episodes on major podcast platforms.
