- 0:03Here's your host, Alex Derrett. Well, a big thanks to those who
- 0:10listened last night as we were love and live from the Eli Stam Usual All
- 0:16Star Weekend. Thanks to Gabby for being part of the announcing and anthony of
- 0:22the Eli Duck's staff, and of course to the man Jimmy Rose for always
- 0:27including us in the Eli stam Usual family, Bob Depot, the Commissioner,
- 0:33and Richard Micah as well. So great night. The ballpark even got a
- 0:38home run call in there, and that was a three run moonshot from a
- 0:43guy by the name Nick Barone. And you may not have heard of him
- 0:47in the major in the baseball world, but he plays for the Long Island
- 0:51Cobras, and he smacked a huge three run homer down the left field line,
- 0:59actually deep left field, not just on the line. I mean it
- 1:02cleared the fences. And as a matter of fact, I wanted to play
- 1:07the call, but I also wanted to play you. I mean, his
- 1:14reaction last night was pretty priceless, I gotta say, and it was sort
- 1:19of sweet and to the point, and I wanted to play you. Nick
- 1:23Bron's thoughts after the game because it was just kind of cool marching down the
- 1:34field, and here was Nick Brone. All right, Well, I wasn't
- 1:44gonna do a postgame recap, but this guy, Nick Baroni or alongside three
- 1:48runs shot to deep left fields. Come on, how did you know off
- 1:52the bat? Or what ye straight? Off the bat? Both the feeling
- 1:55and the sound of it? Now have you played here before? And where
- 1:57the parapherial properties ballpark? Sol? Would it like playing on this field in
- 2:00general? And you know l I Sam usual DoD you like playing in the
- 2:04league. Yeah, it's an amazing play here. It's a different feeling.
- 2:07Well, hopefully got some video, but I got the call for you,
- 2:09so I'd love to sink him up if you got the video of that.
- 2:12So I don't think I had the video, but I think somebody might.
- 2:15Here you go, well, congratulates men today, take care and there you
- 2:19go, a very short post game rap with Nick Brone. He was very
- 2:27h succinct in his thoughts. He knew it was gone. And hopefully there's
- 2:30a video like there was last year of Kane Ruiz's home run. So if
- 2:36you didn't get a chance to listen to it, we'll put it in the
- 2:38links on the one Leg Up feature. Because I realized this is the main
- 2:42vein of the Alex Garrett podcast network. And if you're listening to the other
- 2:47features, that's great, But if you aren't, just click the link and
- 2:52then subscribe to either the Sports Spotlight or the Adapting with Alex s Garrett feature,
- 2:58which all July long, we'll have some stories of adaptability as we continue
- 3:05to do what they're calling Disability Pride Month and an honoring of the Americans or
- 3:10Disabilities Act, which is going to be thirty three years old this year.
- 3:15So that conversation, by the way, with the Center of Independent Disabled New
- 3:20Yorkers Taja of the transportation wing of CID Underscore NY, who can be found
- 3:28on Twitter with that user name, can be found in the description below with
- 3:34clickable links. So there you have it now. One a couple of other
- 3:38things that were gnawn at me over the weekend. Firstly, I wonder why
- 3:46July eighth is also not a national holiday. Do you know what happened on
- 3:51July eighth, nineteen, I'm sorry, seventeen seventy seven, a year and
- 3:57well really six days after we declared our independence. Remember we declared it on
- 4:01July second, seventeen seventy six today in History reminded me and taught me that
- 4:11on July eighth. On July eighth, the first state to abolish slavery was
- 4:17Vermont, and they certified it, they voted that as a law abolishing slavery.
- 4:27So while we talk about Juneteenth, what about July eighth. I mean,
- 4:31that's the first time slaves slavery was abolished here in America, and yet
- 4:38we only honor the last time, which was juneteenth. So I just thought
- 4:43a little historical background there for you would have been interesting. We went to
- 4:47the Yanks game today in sports and continue tradition of watching the Cubs come in
- 4:56like my dad started when I was six months old the way, and we
- 5:00went out to Yankee same him to watch the Cubs, who I know,
- 5:06and my dad's smiling right now. I could see him pretty proud that his
- 5:11team took two out of three from a very struggling Yankees team whose solution was
- 5:16let's fire the hitting coach, because that's been the main problem. I don't
- 5:21know, you lose Aaron Judge, you get some hitting here and there,
- 5:27but overall someone did have to take the fall, and they're not gonna put
- 5:30Aaron Boone on the firing seat, maybe not yet anyway, So they fired
- 5:35the hitting coach and Brian Cashman has very rarely made an in season firing.
- 5:43Of course, when George Simmerner was around that that was done by him.
- 5:53But today Dylan Lawson was fired as Brian Cashman in his twenty fifth season as
- 6:00general manager. I believe in his first ever in season change and so and
- 6:08that's a long history to not fire anybody, but I move out to be
- 6:12made. Someone had to take the fall. And when you got a lineup
- 6:15that looks depleted, it doesn't help. Judge is hurt, but again he
- 6:20can't have only forty nine wins heading in the All Star break. You just
- 6:26you just can't. And that reminds me Aaron. Judge did post today on
- 6:33his Instagram the following message, which I thought you might want to know if
- 6:40you're a huge sports aficionada. I want to take the time to thank you
- 6:44to the fans who voted me in as a starter for the twenty twenty three
- 6:48All Star Game in Seattle. I feel truly blessed to be included in this
- 6:53group about sending players. But the breaking news is, unfortunately I will not
- 7:00be making the trip to Seattle, writes Aaron Judge. He will take this
- 7:03time to heal and rehab so he can get back on the team field for
- 7:09my team and for all of you. Again, I can't think the fans
- 7:13of MLB enough. You are all a huge part of what makes the game
- 7:16so great and I cannot wait to get back out there. That's the Judge
- 7:20forty four Captain, Oh captain, we will miss you in Seattle, but
- 7:25we as a fan base should be excited that he's taking the time to heal
- 7:29and rehab to get back on the field now when earlier later in the season,
- 7:34maybe before off season hits, maybe before September, who knows, But
- 7:40it's a it's a respectable move not to go all the way to Seattle when
- 7:46you are hurt, when your toe is truly screwed up and you need to
- 7:51rehab it for the rest of the season and actually possibly avoid surgery in season.
- 7:56We'll have to see if they can do that. So that's Aaron's post
- 8:01today and I respect him for it. I respect him for it. And
- 8:05then the last thing I wanted to mention, we create a new Instagram here
- 8:11in these on this podcast Alex G. The Fanatic, A lot of fanatic
- 8:16stuff, a lot of sports stuff on the page which you don't want to
- 8:20miss. Alex G. The Fanatic will deals with some fanatics, endorsements,
- 8:26certain product endorsements and so much more. So follow right now, Alex G.
- 8:31The Fanatic and finally, Kudo Adios and thanks for a fifty year career
- 8:41of Elton John, who actually played his final concert last night in Sweden in
- 8:46Stockholm. One quick story, Billy Cannell ahead of the Madison Square Garden security
- 8:56actually brought my dad and I right down to behind backstage where Elton John was
- 9:03going in for our costume change. I remember looking down as he went into
- 9:07that changing room and they took a prief second smiled when as Mary Way and
- 9:13went up watching the rest of concert. But that was a definite memory of
- 9:18Elton John on tour in the last over fifty years and our own little piece
- 9:24of it at Madison Square Garden. So Elton, congratulations on an incredible career.
- 9:31We hope your health stays well and that even if you're not on tour,
- 9:39your music of course lasts forever. I'm Alex Skirrett with this, Alex
- 9:48Skirtt Podcast Network. Update on the one Leg Up feature. Talk to you soon.
