- 0:00Speaker 1: I'm Chris Hansen right now on Crime Watch Daily. From
- 0:03Speaker 1: here in New York City. A man's body is found
- 0:13Speaker 1: at the side.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Of the road.
- 0:15Speaker 3: We didn't even have a name.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Who is he and who is his killer?
- 0:19Speaker 4: Cold blooded?
- 0:20Speaker 3: Cold blooded? Absolutely.
- 0:22Speaker 1: A receipt found at the crime scene leads detectives straight
- 0:25Speaker 1: to their first clue. Surveillance video of a secret shopper
- 0:29Speaker 1: turns out to be.
- 0:30Speaker 5: A student at a local college, had no criminal.
- 0:33Speaker 6: History, just the all American kid today.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Is this crime connected to a missing married soldier?
- 0:39Speaker 6: O'h crime.
- 0:40Speaker 7: That's how much I've missed.
- 0:41Speaker 1: When this puzzle comes together, it will shock everything.
- 0:45Speaker 6: This is a homicide Okayside.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Then a mother of four wards a cross country train,
- 0:53Speaker 1: but when it arrives at the station.
- 0:55Speaker 8: She didn't get off the train.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Twenty eight years old, the picture of health. You're dead
- 1:01Speaker 1: in her seat.
- 1:02Speaker 9: It wasn't the conductor that killed her, and the show
- 1:04Speaker 9: wasn't her kids.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Ana Garcia with one of the most bizarre mysteries of
- 1:08Speaker 1: all time? Was it murder on the train?
- 1:11Speaker 10: I know this in my heart and in my.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Right Now.
- 1:16Speaker 11: Let's go.
- 1:16Speaker 5: Jason Motower with Prime Watch Daily.
- 1:18Speaker 10: I'ms also going up from Crimewatch Daily. Yes, let's be

- 1:25Speaker 10: You got anything to say?
- 1:26Speaker 1: Is crime Watch Daily?
- 1:27Speaker 9: What do you mean you don't know?
- 1:28Speaker 12: If she's thirteen, you're running away?
- 1:30Speaker 13: Now?
- 1:33Speaker 1: Welcome to crime Watch Daily. Everyone, I'm Chris Hansen. First
- 1:36Speaker 1: up today. If you want to get away with murder,
- 1:39Speaker 1: you might not want to type we used to kill
- 1:41Speaker 1: someone and not get caught into your web browser. Our
- 1:45Speaker 1: Nurse and Night has today's top story, The Imperfect Crime.
- 1:50Speaker 4: It's a bizarre murder mystery.
- 1:53Speaker 5: I have never seen a case with these strange and
- 1:58Speaker 5: heinous set of facts.
- 2:00Speaker 4: But who's behind the grizzly crime will shock a close
- 2:04Speaker 4: knit community.
- 2:05Speaker 3: Cold blooded, cold blooded, absolutely one of the coldest people
- 2:09Speaker 3: I've ever met in my life in my career.
- 2:12Speaker 4: And leave investigators shaking their heads and holding their stomachs.
- 2:18Speaker 4: Did these images stick with you?
- 2:20Speaker 6: Yes, they still to this day.
- 2:25Speaker 4: It's deer season in Springfield, Illinois, and someone is made
- 2:29Speaker 4: a killing.
- 2:30Speaker 14: A couple gentlemen who live out in eastern part of
- 2:32Speaker 14: the county. One was driving home saw something laying in
- 2:36Speaker 14: a creek area off the side of a road.
- 2:39Speaker 4: He figures it's a discarded deer carcass and keeps driving,
- 2:43Speaker 4: but for some reason he can't let it go, so
- 2:47Speaker 4: he goes.
- 2:47Speaker 14: Home, sits here for a while and it's bugging him,
- 2:51Speaker 14: so he calls one of his friends and they agree
- 2:54Speaker 14: to go down there and see what they have.
- 2:57Speaker 4: The area is dark and wooded, it's hard to make
- 3:00Speaker 4: out in the tall grass. Then they see it and
- 3:06Speaker 4: it's not a dead deer.
- 3:08Speaker 15: And that's when they discovered the remains of a body,
- 3:13Speaker 15: or what's left of it.
- 3:15Speaker 6: Appeared to be a body missing the head.
- 3:18Speaker 4: Horrified, the men dial nine to one one. Santomon County
- 3:22Speaker 4: Chief Deputy Joe Roche gets the call from dispatch.
- 3:26Speaker 3: I was at home. I was off duty, but the
- 3:27Speaker 3: Captain of Investigations is never off duty. But I received
- 3:31Speaker 3: a call and we believe that we had a body
- 3:34Speaker 3: of a human found in a rural area.
- 3:38Speaker 4: When investigators arrive, they discover a gruesome scene.
- 3:42Speaker 6: It's very graphic. When I, along with other detectives, walked.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Up, it was the decapitated body and the body also
- 3:51Speaker 3: didn't have arms or legs, so someone had cut the head,
- 3:54Speaker 3: the arms, and the legs off this person.
- 3:56Speaker 4: Even the most hardened detectives are taken aback by the
- 4:00Speaker 4: sheer carnage of the crime scene. This is unheard of
- 4:03Speaker 4: for the area.
- 4:04Speaker 14: Yes, that's a very safe area. The only thing that
- 4:08Speaker 14: happens out there is farming and hunting.
- 4:11Speaker 4: The first hurdle for investigators is to id the body.
- 4:14Speaker 4: There are no missing persons reports and the body is
- 4:18Speaker 4: just a torso, making the identification process nearly impossible.
- 4:23Speaker 3: We had no fingerprints, we had no face, and no
- 4:28Speaker 3: way to actually do any tests.
- 4:31Speaker 4: So detectives on scenes scour the area for many signs
- 4:34Speaker 4: of the man's identity. Then they spot something on a
- 4:38Speaker 4: nearby guard rail.
- 4:40Speaker 14: You could see what appeared to be substance consistent with blood,
- 4:44Speaker 14: where something was drug over the railing, and there was
- 4:48Speaker 14: also an extension cord around the shoulders, which appeared that
- 4:54Speaker 14: the torso was drugged down there by someone.
- 4:57Speaker 4: But the clues don't stop there. It appears somewhat and
- 5:00Speaker 4: tried to wipe the blood off the guardrail. There was napkins,
- 5:06Speaker 4: and mixed within the bloody napkins on the ground.
- 5:10Speaker 3: We found a receipt just feet away from the body.
- 5:13Speaker 15: Got with their lost prevention people tracked down the purchase
- 5:17Speaker 15: time date got the register.
- 5:21Speaker 4: And there's more. When cops pulled the store surveillance video
- 5:24Speaker 4: and zero in on the purchase time on the receipt,
- 5:28Speaker 4: that's when they spot the mystery buyer.
- 5:32Speaker 3: But it was a black female.
- 5:34Speaker 4: And just what was she buying?
- 5:36Speaker 3: Purchasing his saws off at basically midnight? Buying a saws
- 5:40Speaker 3: on in the middle of the night.
- 5:42Speaker 4: It's a little bit unusual coming up.
- 5:45Speaker 3: We hadn't identified him yet, so we didn't even have
- 5:48Speaker 3: a name.
- 5:49Speaker 4: And who is the woman on the surveillance video.
- 5:52Speaker 6: We were kind of stunned.
- 5:56Speaker 1: We're back now with more of our top story today.
- 5:59Speaker 1: The imperfect, a dismembered torso is discovered in a field.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Next to the body a receipt. Could the killer have
- 6:06Speaker 1: been careless enough to leave it behind?
- 6:08Speaker 6: Once again?
- 6:09Speaker 1: Here's Narissa Knight.
- 6:11Speaker 4: Police and Springfield, Illinois are literally trying to piece together
- 6:15Speaker 4: their grisly murder mystery. A body is discovered, but many
- 6:19Speaker 4: parts are missing.
- 6:21Speaker 14: An African American male torso missing the legs from below
- 6:25Speaker 14: the knee down, The hands were cut off, the arms
- 6:28Speaker 14: and the head had been severed off the body.
- 6:32Speaker 4: Cops find a store receipt near the man's Torso, and
- 6:35Speaker 4: when they pull the retail shop security video, they discover
- 6:39Speaker 4: a woman making a curious purchase in the middle of
- 6:42Speaker 4: the nile.
- 6:44Speaker 14: On that receipt was a skill reciprocating saw, which is
- 6:47Speaker 14: an electric saws.
- 6:48Speaker 4: All then cops hit pager. When they zoom in, the
- 6:52Speaker 4: surveillance video shows the mystery woman pain with a credit card.
- 6:57Speaker 4: So you had surveillance video, and you had the card
- 7:01Speaker 4: that was used and what items were purchased. Yes, And
- 7:06Speaker 4: when cops pulled the woman's credit card information, the secret
- 7:09Speaker 4: shopper is a secret no more.
- 7:12Speaker 5: Her name Watasha Dent Macaster.
- 7:15Speaker 4: But she's hardly a criminal, was.
- 7:17Speaker 5: A student at a local college and had no criminal history,
- 7:23Speaker 5: recently moved to the area.
- 7:25Speaker 4: In fact, the twenty two year old was an honor
- 7:27Speaker 4: student at her high school, and when not excelling at school,
- 7:31Speaker 4: Watasha could be found attending church.
- 7:34Speaker 14: Lots of friends dedicated to her family as well. Never
- 7:39Speaker 14: heard a bad thing about her either, just the all
- 7:42Speaker 14: American kid.
- 7:44Speaker 4: But considering everything, investigators placed the college student under around
- 7:49Speaker 4: the clock, twenty four hour surveillance.
- 7:52Speaker 3: We put a surveillance on her house. She went about
- 7:54Speaker 3: her normal.
- 7:55Speaker 4: Life, including something fairly routine as taking out the trash
- 8:00Speaker 4: after she deposited on the curve that made her trash
- 8:03Speaker 4: public property. Cops move in right away and secretly seize
- 8:07Speaker 4: her garbage. And when they open the first bag.
- 8:11Speaker 3: Floor tile, she tore up the floor tile, So again
- 8:15Speaker 3: an odd thing to find in trash.
- 8:18Speaker 4: Odd but not necessarily incriminating. Still, investigators send the tiles
- 8:23Speaker 4: to the crime lab for testing. Cops wonder if this
- 8:26Speaker 4: young church going woman was just remodeling her house, or
- 8:30Speaker 4: if she had some connection to this savage murder.
- 8:34Speaker 5: How could this petit, meek, mild mannered, no criminal history
- 8:39Speaker 5: have done this.
- 8:40Speaker 4: Not to mention, the killing is so brutal it seems
- 8:43Speaker 4: more like a hit.
- 8:45Speaker 5: This has to be gang related, drug related folks not
- 8:50Speaker 5: from Sangamon County that could do this heinous crime.
- 8:53Speaker 4: Because your people just don't do this here.
- 8:55Speaker 6: We do not see this type of crime here in
- 8:57Speaker 6: Sangmon County.
- 9:00Speaker 4: While the corner attempts to identify the butchered remains, undercover
- 9:04Speaker 4: cops keep a close eye on what Tasha and CSI
- 9:07Speaker 4: teens continue to sift through her trash. Then alarm bells
- 9:12Speaker 4: go off. One bag doesn't appear to be garbage at all.
- 9:15Speaker 4: It's full of men's clothing.
- 9:18Speaker 3: When we started seeing soldiers' uniforms, we knew that there
- 9:21Speaker 3: was someone that could have been living there with.
- 9:23Speaker 4: Her, But who It's a short lived question when investigators
- 9:28Speaker 4: discover an identification card mixed in with the uniforms.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Norman Ramel Macast was a citizen of Sangamon County. He
- 9:37Speaker 3: was involved in the Illinois National Guard and a great
- 9:40Speaker 3: member of this community.
- 9:41Speaker 4: And there's something else about this National guardsman.
- 9:45Speaker 5: Had recently moved to Springfield, Illinois with his wife, Watasha
- 9:49Speaker 5: Denton Macaster.
- 9:51Speaker 4: That's right, what Tasha is married, but her husband doesn't
- 9:55Speaker 4: seem to be home. Detectives plays a call to the
- 9:59Speaker 4: Illinois National Guard. They are informed that Norman was a
- 10:02Speaker 4: no show at a recent mandatory drill. Comes aside, it's
- 10:07Speaker 4: time to have a chat with his young wife.
- 10:10Speaker 15: She talked to myself as Sergeant Foks. We asked if
- 10:12Speaker 15: we come in and talked to her. She let us in.
- 10:14Speaker 6: She was very polite.
- 10:17Speaker 4: Now was she acting suspiciously?
- 10:20Speaker 6: Not at all.
- 10:21Speaker 14: She invited to send her house, was very genuine, sweet,
- 10:25Speaker 14: ask us if we wanted something to drink. We sat
- 10:27Speaker 14: on her couch talked a few things over.
- 10:30Speaker 4: Watasha explains to police that Norman is her high school sweetheart,
- 10:35Speaker 4: but that lately their marriage has been on the rocks
- 10:37Speaker 4: due to his drug addiction.
- 10:40Speaker 14: She told us that he left with some druggies from
- 10:43Speaker 14: Saint Louis.
- 10:44Speaker 6: We asked her what kind of car. She didn't know.
- 10:48Speaker 14: I remember specifically asking her what did he have when
- 10:51Speaker 14: he left? She said just the clothes on his back.
- 10:53Speaker 4: But when detectives talked to Norman's dad, he's in total shock.
- 10:58Speaker 4: He tells police his son doesn't do drugs, and what's more,
- 11:02Speaker 4: he has no idea his son is even missing.
- 11:06Speaker 2: So you're telling me my son ran off, So you
- 11:11Speaker 2: must don't know my son and the relationship to me
- 11:14Speaker 2: and him have.
- 11:15Speaker 6: He's not gonna run off.
- 11:16Speaker 2: He's gonna call right without telling me.
- 11:18Speaker 6: Or call it me.
- 11:21Speaker 4: Turns out, after Norman disappeared, Watasha didn't tell his family
- 11:25Speaker 4: or police.
- 11:27Speaker 6: I shouldn't report her husband missing.
- 11:29Speaker 4: Norman's aunt, Keisha, is equally stunned by Watasha's stories about
- 11:33Speaker 4: her nephew.
- 11:34Speaker 11: She stopt saying, all weird stuff that didn't make sense.
- 11:37Speaker 4: You knew it wasn't right.
- 11:38Speaker 9: No, I know it was not right, I know he
- 11:41Speaker 9: would contact us and tell us anything that was going on.
- 11:46Speaker 4: And when detectives interview soldiers and coworkers who knew the
- 11:49Speaker 4: missing twenty two year old man, and.
- 11:51Speaker 14: We were waiting to hear one bad thing about him
- 11:54Speaker 14: and that that never happened.
- 11:56Speaker 4: Then cops get their hands on more surveillance footage. Just
- 12:01Speaker 4: one day after buying the saw what Tasha is captured
- 12:04Speaker 4: pulling into the same store parking lot, once inside security
- 12:08Speaker 4: camera's role as she makes another strange purchase clean supplies.
- 12:15Speaker 3: And I think it was like heavy duty plastic that
- 12:19Speaker 3: you'd wrap maybe for painting, like a plastic covering.
- 12:23Speaker 4: Basically a kill cleanup kit.
- 12:25Speaker 3: That's what we thought it was. At least it was
- 12:27Speaker 3: very suspicious that the same person that uses credit card
- 12:31Speaker 3: was also cleaning up, ripping the tile out of her
- 12:34Speaker 3: house and not reporting your husband and not reporting your
- 12:37Speaker 3: husband missing.
- 12:39Speaker 4: Now, with more than a little hunch to go on,
- 12:41Speaker 4: investigators contact the Illinois National Guard and make a very
- 12:45Speaker 4: specific replust. They ask for a sample of Norman's DNA since.
- 12:51Speaker 6: He was in the National Guard.
- 12:53Speaker 5: There is a DNA sample that has kept at Dover
- 12:55Speaker 5: Air Force Base in Delaware, so through the work of
- 12:58Speaker 5: the Illinois State Police taking a DNA sample from the torso,
- 13:02Speaker 5: matching that up with DNA from Dover Air Force Base
- 13:06Speaker 5: in Delaware.
- 13:07Speaker 4: And the result it was a match coming up.
- 13:12Speaker 3: If we would tip our hand, it could blow the
- 13:14Speaker 3: whole investigation.
- 13:16Speaker 4: Curious computer searches and mounting evidence.
- 13:21Speaker 15: She agreed to come down to the Sheriff's office with us.
- 13:23Speaker 4: Then finally time to tell the truth.
- 13:27Speaker 6: You know where it is at.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Now is the conclusion of today's story, the imperfect crime.
- 13:34Speaker 1: For that, Let's head back to Illinois and our Nurisa Knight.
- 13:38Speaker 4: Chris Nord of the Castor has been murdered, his body dismembered,
- 13:42Speaker 4: and police would zero in.
- 13:44Speaker 12: On a prime suspect, his young wife.
- 13:49Speaker 4: There's a DNA match between the torso found in the
- 13:53Speaker 4: woods and the missing soldier. It's twenty two year old
- 13:57Speaker 4: National guardsman Norman macast.
- 14:01Speaker 6: Just received that phone call. It just tears your.
- 14:10Speaker 2: It just tears you apart that you know they hear
- 14:13Speaker 2: it at one here kids is dead.
- 14:18Speaker 4: What did you hear it happened?
- 14:19Speaker 2: At that time, nobody wanted to tell. People just said
- 14:23Speaker 2: don't say anything to him.
- 14:25Speaker 4: But when Norman's father arrives at the police station in Springfield.
- 14:29Speaker 4: The detectives regretfully reveal the savage way Norman died.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Once I found out all the details, I pretty much
- 14:38Speaker 2: wanted hurt something.
- 14:41Speaker 4: Or someone whoever was responsible.
- 14:43Speaker 6: Who's ever responsible for it?
- 14:45Speaker 4: And investigators believe they know who is responsible for Norman's death,
- 14:50Speaker 4: his own wife with Tasha. They've had her under surveillance
- 14:54Speaker 4: for weeks.
- 14:55Speaker 14: We wanted together the strongest case we could get against her.
- 15:00Speaker 4: Now, armed with what appears to be undeniable evidence against her,
- 15:04Speaker 4: detective votes asked Watasha to come down to the Sheriff's headquarters.
- 15:08Speaker 14: The Thanksgiving holiday was coming up. We thought she might
- 15:11Speaker 14: go home and not come back.
- 15:14Speaker 4: Watasha agrees to meet with investigators.
- 15:17Speaker 14: We were helping the guard out on the missing person, who,
- 15:22Speaker 14: according to them, is a missing person normal. That's why
- 15:25Speaker 14: we came to talk to you, and we briefly spoke
- 15:27Speaker 14: at your house and were nice enough to come over
- 15:29Speaker 14: here with us.
- 15:30Speaker 3: Right.
- 15:31Speaker 4: Detectives ask Watasha about her relationship with her husband. She
- 15:35Speaker 4: paints a picture of estrangement and abuse, starting with an
- 15:38Speaker 4: argument over Norman watching porn and just drew me into the.
- 15:42Speaker 11: Wall, and I guess so nervous because.
- 15:48Speaker 16: You know that's my husband.
- 15:49Speaker 6: You know, he never put his hands on me like that.
- 15:52Speaker 3: How long ago was that?
- 15:53Speaker 4: That was?
- 15:54Speaker 5: Not?
- 15:54Speaker 8: Like?
- 15:58Speaker 4: Then, detectives recalls something off they noticed at her house
- 16:01Speaker 4: during their initial conversation with the young woman, And now
- 16:05Speaker 4: it's starting to make sense.
- 16:07Speaker 5: There was a calendar on the wall in the kitchen
- 16:10Speaker 5: with the anniversary date all blacked out.
- 16:13Speaker 6: Their two year.
- 16:13Speaker 5: Anniversary was coming up, and Norman macastor was not going
- 16:17Speaker 5: to make that two year anniversary, and she was going
- 16:19Speaker 5: to make sure of it.
- 16:20Speaker 4: So Detective Votes asked a leading question.
- 16:24Speaker 6: Hey, you said your anniversary was one day. I can't
- 16:26Speaker 6: remember when you said it.
- 16:27Speaker 9: Was made two years we've been married, and I came
- 16:32Speaker 9: him out on the twenty four, like he actually led
- 16:34Speaker 9: to Bista on twenty four all.
- 16:37Speaker 4: Of his stuff, Remember, cops already went through Watasha's trash.
- 16:42Speaker 4: They found what appeared to be Norman's belongings, including his
- 16:45Speaker 4: military uniforms, credit cards, and IDs.
- 16:50Speaker 14: And when he left, what'd he take anything?
- 16:52Speaker 10: Everything?
- 16:54Speaker 4: Detective Votese has just caught with Tasha in a line, let's.
- 17:00Speaker 14: At your house that he left with nothing but the
- 17:01Speaker 14: clothes on his back. Yeah, I didn't keep anything.
- 17:13Speaker 1: I don't want to keep anything.
- 17:15Speaker 3: Well, you know why he didn't.
- 17:17Speaker 16: He threw it all out in your garbage. That's why
- 17:23Speaker 16: we're here. We know where Norman's at. Where is you
- 17:30Speaker 16: know where Norman's at?
- 17:32Speaker 4: You want to? Detective Vows hands her two search warrants,
- 17:37Speaker 4: one for her home and one for a sample of
- 17:40Speaker 4: her DNA.
- 17:42Speaker 6: If we haven't made ourselves clear, this is a homicide.
- 17:47Speaker 9: Okay, what's a homicide?
- 17:51Speaker 12: Wllatasha might not know what a homicide is, but Cobbs
- 17:55Speaker 12: believe she committed one and placed her under arrest.
- 18:04Speaker 17: Yeah, you're under rest for the concealment of a homicide.
- 18:15Speaker 6: There's nothing more. What I'd like to do is get
- 18:19Speaker 6: this straightened up.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Okay, a lawyer.
- 18:22Speaker 6: You want a lawyer.
- 18:24Speaker 4: Watasha is taken into custody and charged with first degree murder,
- 18:29Speaker 4: dismembering a body, concealing a homicidal death, and obstructing justice.
- 18:35Speaker 4: Trial prosecutors reveal the results that are forensic computer search
- 18:39Speaker 4: performed on her laptop.
- 18:41Speaker 14: The computer searches they all started around the beginning of June,
- 18:45Speaker 14: about how to kill your husband, how to kill a
- 18:47Speaker 14: spouse and get away with it, and the list goes
- 18:49Speaker 14: on and on.
- 18:51Speaker 4: And on to these curious clicks of her computer keyboard.
- 18:55Speaker 5: How to kill somebody with vizine.
- 18:59Speaker 4: Which to prosecutors would explain the puzzling contents of one
- 19:03Speaker 4: of Watasha's trash bags.
- 19:06Speaker 3: We found numerous bottles of iszine. I've been involved in
- 19:10Speaker 3: law enforcement for over twenty years. At the time, we
- 19:12Speaker 3: didn't even know what relevance that was, but we found out.
- 19:16Speaker 3: You know, people take the component of iszine and in
- 19:19Speaker 3: just that in the human body and large quantities it
- 19:21Speaker 3: can be fatal.
- 19:23Speaker 4: A forensic toxic collegist testifies that he discovered above normal
- 19:27Speaker 4: levels of tetra hydrosylene, an ingredient in byzine, in Norman
- 19:32Speaker 4: Macast's liver. But prosecutors are just getting started when they
- 19:37Speaker 4: call their star witness, a student who attended college with Watasha.
- 19:42Speaker 5: He loaned a gun to Watasha. She then returned a
- 19:46Speaker 5: day later, and it was missing two bullets.
- 19:49Speaker 6: For we believe that she shot Norman in the head
- 19:53Speaker 6: with that gun.
- 19:54Speaker 5: That's why his head was cut off with the reciprocating saw,
- 19:58Speaker 5: and then his hands were cut off and his legs
- 20:00Speaker 5: cut off either. She thought that that no fingerprints could
- 20:05Speaker 5: be found, so they couldn't determine who when the torso
- 20:08Speaker 5: was found who it was, or it made it easier
- 20:11Speaker 5: because Norman weighed over two hundred pounds, easier for her
- 20:15Speaker 5: to move.
- 20:15Speaker 4: Norman, but cops believe she still had to use a dolly.
- 20:20Speaker 4: That theory comes from more damning surveillance footage, this time
- 20:24Speaker 4: it's from an entirely different store where Watasha is seen
- 20:28Speaker 4: purchasing a Dolly then placing a truly chilling.
- 20:32Speaker 5: Order a chess freezer that was later canceled. We surmised
- 20:39Speaker 5: that she was able to dispose of the body, so
- 20:41Speaker 5: she did not need to store it in a chess freezer.
- 20:45Speaker 4: But what about the rest of Norman.
- 20:47Speaker 5: We believed that the killer went up to Chicago based
- 20:52Speaker 5: on some evidence from her phone. We looked and there
- 20:57Speaker 5: were several bridges, other areas, other wooded areas, so.
- 21:01Speaker 4: No one knows where his head, his legs, his.
- 21:05Speaker 5: Arms are, His head, his hands, his legs were never recovered.
- 21:11Speaker 4: It's a devastating reality for Norman's family members who were
- 21:15Speaker 4: hoping to lay their loved one to rest in one piece.
- 21:19Speaker 3: Why would someone just do something like that?
- 21:23Speaker 6: A parson period kind of parson.
- 21:25Speaker 3: Up like that.
- 21:26Speaker 4: After seven hours of jury deliberations, Watasha is found guilty
- 21:31Speaker 4: and sentenced to seventy eight years.
- 21:34Speaker 6: That's not a human being to me, that's a master.
- 21:39Speaker 4: Am the motive for murder.
- 21:41Speaker 6: Natasha was a perfectionist.
- 21:43Speaker 14: She had never failed at one thing, but her marriage
- 21:46Speaker 14: was crumbling around her, and when it started to fail,
- 21:50Speaker 14: she came up with the plan, and unfortunately she carried
- 21:53Speaker 14: it out.
- 21:55Speaker 4: Since the horrific murder of Norman macast his father tries
- 21:59Speaker 4: to stay strong for the rest of the family by
- 22:02Speaker 4: mourning his only son in private.
- 22:05Speaker 7: It's tough because every morning I go out to the car,
- 22:11Speaker 7: I'll sit there and you know, I'll cry because that's
- 22:16Speaker 7: how much I miss oh me.
- 22:22Speaker 6: But the lots to be.
- 22:25Speaker 4: To this day, the Springfield, Illinois woman has never admitted
- 22:29Speaker 4: to killing them, dismembering and decapitating her husband. In fact,
- 22:34Speaker 4: even while being arrested, Watasha was still wearing her wedding
- 22:39Speaker 4: ring and told detectives she was holding out hope that
- 22:43Speaker 4: she and Norman would get back together.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Up next, a young mother takes a cross country train
- 22:52Speaker 1: ride with her kids, but doesn't derive a lot.
- 22:56Speaker 9: Does she die in Nebraska. Was she dead when they
- 22:59Speaker 9: were in ILLINOI I have no clothes.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Her family says, all the clues point to murder, but
- 23:05Speaker 1: their plans for justice keep getting derailed.
- 23:08Speaker 18: How can they tell us an undetermined death? To me,
- 23:10Speaker 18: it sounds pretty evident.
- 23:14Speaker 1: We're back now with one of the most bizarre mysteries
- 23:17Speaker 1: we've ever covered. A woman walks onto a train but
- 23:20Speaker 1: never walks off. Anna Garcia is in Colorado, now with
- 23:23Speaker 1: the details.
- 23:25Speaker 10: A young mother boards a train from Milwaukee to Denver.
- 23:30Speaker 9: Marina is on her way to start a new life.
- 23:33Speaker 10: But Marina Placentia won't be stepping off alive.
- 23:37Speaker 11: I need a phone call saying they're trying. They're trying
- 23:40Speaker 11: to resuscitate Marina.
- 23:43Speaker 10: But how is it just an inexplicable tragedy?
- 23:47Speaker 18: She was a healthy young woman, she had no internal illness.
- 23:52Speaker 10: Or is it a case of murder on the Denver
- 23:54Speaker 10: Express ending in a journey with no justice?
- 23:58Speaker 9: It wasn't the conductor that killed her, and a show
- 24:01Speaker 9: wasn't her kids.
- 24:04Speaker 10: Marina Placentia, a sweet teen with dimples and a bright smile,
- 24:09Speaker 10: grew into a stunner who turned the heads of men
- 24:12Speaker 10: wherever she went. This one guy just kept watching and
- 24:15Speaker 10: watching and watching. The next thing, you know, bay them
- 24:18Speaker 10: right into a pole. One of those men was Angelo Mantage,
- 24:24Speaker 10: who set his sights on the eighteen year old raven
- 24:27Speaker 10: haired beauty after spotting her across the room at a party.
- 24:31Speaker 13: He wrote his number on a dollar bill and he
- 24:34Speaker 13: kind of dropped it by her, and she picked it
- 24:36Speaker 13: up and saw the number.
- 24:38Speaker 10: The sly move paid off. Angelo and Marina started dating,
- 24:43Speaker 10: and the relationship moved at warp speed. How was Marina
- 24:47Speaker 10: feeling about him at this point?
- 24:48Speaker 13: Oh, she was massively in love with I mean scary love.
- 24:52Speaker 13: They were obsessed with each other.
- 24:55Speaker 10: But behind the bloom of new love, Marina's mother, Tere,
- 24:59Speaker 10: who were worked as a counselor and a domestic violence shelter,
- 25:03Speaker 10: saw red flags.
- 25:05Speaker 13: I said, you know, Marina, he's pretty, I don't know,
- 25:09Speaker 13: kind of intense. He needs to know where you're at
- 25:11Speaker 13: twenty four seven. That's not healthy, baby.
- 25:15Speaker 10: Even Marina's big brother Chris, sounded alarms.
- 25:19Speaker 8: And I told her flat out, says, I don't like him.
- 25:21Speaker 8: I want you to steer clear of this man. But
- 25:23Speaker 8: she chose not to.
- 25:25Speaker 10: It wasn't long before the family, says Angelo revealed a
- 25:29Speaker 10: dark side simmering below the surface.
- 25:32Speaker 8: What did you see in the beginning? It was perfect,
- 25:35Speaker 8: Everything was fine, good old fairy tale relationship. And then
- 25:40Speaker 8: you see pep, you start to happen.
- 25:43Speaker 10: The family alleges that was just the start of years
- 25:46Speaker 10: of harrowing abuse. But Marina refused to give up her Romeo,
- 25:51Speaker 10: and you couldn't get rid of him.
- 25:52Speaker 18: No I tried, and.
- 25:55Speaker 10: No, Mom, I love him. Little did the family know
- 26:01Speaker 10: twenty four year old Angelo would soon become entangled in
- 26:05Speaker 10: their lives forever.
- 26:07Speaker 13: She says, Mom, We've got something to tell you. Oh crap,
- 26:11Speaker 13: I got a fellain. I know what this is.
- 26:13Speaker 3: She was pregnant right.
- 26:16Speaker 10: Her family claims that even the children weren't safe from
- 26:19Speaker 10: his explosive temper.
- 26:21Speaker 3: Did the kids tell.
- 26:22Speaker 18: You Daddy said that he would hurt them if they
- 26:26Speaker 18: said anything. Oh the two year old, we get popped
- 26:32Speaker 18: in the mouth and he would make her bleed.
- 26:38Speaker 10: Crime Watch Daily try to independently verify the allegations against
- 26:42Speaker 10: Angelo Mantage. We reached out to him through his attorney,
- 26:46Speaker 10: but we got no response. According to police reports, cops
- 26:51Speaker 10: were called to the house numerous times to do welfare checks,
- 26:54Speaker 10: but no action was ever taken. Was there anything you
- 26:58Speaker 10: could do?
- 26:59Speaker 3: No? I tried everything.
- 27:01Speaker 13: I would do the safety checks with the officers. I'd
- 27:03Speaker 13: have him go down and check on her, because I
- 27:06Speaker 13: never trusted him.
- 27:08Speaker 10: Marina finally did file an official report of one instance
- 27:12Speaker 10: of domestic abuse. In it, she writes, I'm submitting a
- 27:16Speaker 10: copy of the medical records where he broke my ear drum.
- 27:20Speaker 10: I got lucky this time. I don't want my kids
- 27:23Speaker 10: to pay the price. And Angelo was finally convicted of
- 27:27Speaker 10: domestic assault.
- 27:29Speaker 13: Then I said, oh thank god.
- 27:31Speaker 10: And while he was locked up, a tiny glint of
- 27:34Speaker 10: strength sparked in Marina, who took the first tentative steps
- 27:39Speaker 10: to build a new life.
- 27:40Speaker 4: She got set up.
- 27:41Speaker 13: She had this little apartment.
- 27:43Speaker 10: Her and the three boys are safe.
- 27:45Speaker 3: This is amazing. I'm so happy.
- 27:47Speaker 10: But were they really? Even a prison cell couldn't keep
- 27:51Speaker 10: Angelo from terrorizing Marina. When the family claims she received
- 27:57Speaker 10: a chilling message.
- 27:58Speaker 11: She said, Angelo tells me if I can't have you,
- 28:01Speaker 11: no one will, and if I find you here in
- 28:03Speaker 11: a relationship with somebody else, I will kill you.
- 28:07Speaker 10: Despite the alleged threat, Marina accepted Angelo back into her life.
- 28:12Speaker 18: She was a grown woman, and so we couldn't really
- 28:15Speaker 18: interfere with her decision to want to take him back.
- 28:18Speaker 10: But Marina's family claims the violence and stress had reached
- 28:22Speaker 10: a tipping point. Now, Marina's desperate family hatches a secret
- 28:27Speaker 10: plot to rescue her from Angelo.
- 28:30Speaker 8: We were going to, in better terms, kidnap my sister
- 28:32Speaker 8: and them kids so they can be safe, put him
- 28:35Speaker 8: in a safe home.
- 28:36Speaker 10: And Marina had no idea about the plan.
- 28:38Speaker 3: No clue, no clue whatsoever.
- 28:41Speaker 10: The master plan, Marina and the kids would take the
- 28:44Speaker 10: Amtrak train from Wisconsin to Colorado. Once there, they would
- 28:49Speaker 10: stay in Denver with Marina's brother, get a restraining order,
- 28:53Speaker 10: and be convinced to finally escape for good.
- 28:57Speaker 11: He didn't know where to relive, so Marina was safe
- 29:01Speaker 11: because there was no way he could find her.
- 29:03Speaker 10: But Angelo soon gets wind of the family's cover story
- 29:07Speaker 10: that the trip is just to visit. He quickly buys
- 29:11Speaker 10: a train ticket and joins them.
- 29:13Speaker 13: Now we found this out like two or three days
- 29:16Speaker 13: before they were leaving. It's okay, he can come.
- 29:18Speaker 3: Who cares?
- 29:19Speaker 13: We have our plan in motion.
- 29:22Speaker 10: Their secret plan to whisk her to safety was about
- 29:26Speaker 10: to be derailed, and I.
- 29:27Speaker 11: Get a phone call saying they're China. They're trying to
- 29:32Speaker 11: resuscitate Marina.
- 29:34Speaker 10: Strangely, when the family arrives at the station, only Angelo
- 29:39Speaker 10: and the kids get off that train. Marina is still
- 29:43Speaker 10: in her seat, not breathing.
- 29:46Speaker 3: She didn't get off the train.
- 29:52Speaker 10: Up next, across country journey from hell? What really happened
- 29:57Speaker 10: in those hours of travel, crossing multiple state lines? And
- 30:03Speaker 10: why can no one answer the question? Was Marina murdered?
- 30:07Speaker 8: That's why I looked at him and I told him,
- 30:08Speaker 8: if I find out, you to danger into where and
- 30:10Speaker 8: you're gonna pay for this the one way or another.
- 30:15Speaker 1: A family puts into motion a secret mission to save
- 30:18Speaker 1: a mother of four from her abusive boyfriend, But just
- 30:21Speaker 1: hours before she'd reached that safe place, Marina Placentia would
- 30:25Speaker 1: be found dead. Anna Garcia is here now with more
- 30:28Speaker 1: of the story than will leave you.
- 30:29Speaker 2: Outraged, Chris.
- 30:31Speaker 10: It's here at Denver's Union Station that Marina Placentia would
- 30:35Speaker 10: be found dead on a train, still in her seat.
- 30:38Speaker 10: The one thing her family is sure of, Marina was
- 30:41Speaker 10: alive when she got on that train. A woman takes
- 30:46Speaker 10: a cross country train ride, all a secret planned by
- 30:49Speaker 10: her family to whisk her away. From an abusive partner.
- 30:53Speaker 10: So when the journey ends at Denver's Union Station, Marina
- 30:57Speaker 10: Placentia is not breathing.
- 31:00Speaker 8: She was still on the train that was trying to
- 31:02Speaker 8: assuscitate her in the walkway of the middle of the trade.
- 31:05Speaker 10: Paramedics rush on board, feverishly trying to save the twenty
- 31:09Speaker 10: eight year old mother of four. It's too late.
- 31:13Speaker 8: I see the gurney come by with the paramedics and
- 31:15Speaker 8: nobody was on you. That's what he told me.
- 31:17Speaker 9: She was gone.
- 31:19Speaker 10: Her family is stunned and only left with this burning question.
- 31:24Speaker 10: How could Marina Placentia, a perfectly healthy young woman, simply
- 31:29Speaker 10: die in her seat without anyone noticing?
- 31:32Speaker 9: Because it wasn't the conductor that killed her, and a
- 31:35Speaker 9: share wasn't her kids that killed her.
- 31:38Speaker 10: To add to the mystery, Marina's brother, Christopher, spoke to
- 31:41Speaker 10: his little sister around ten pm the previous night.
- 31:46Speaker 3: How did she sound?
- 31:47Speaker 6: One hundred percent?
- 31:48Speaker 3: She was excited, But.
- 31:50Speaker 10: When the train pulled into the Denver station, she was dead.
- 31:55Speaker 13: I know what happened to my baby.
- 31:58Speaker 3: He beat her.
- 32:01Speaker 10: Did you say to him, Angela, what happened on that train?
- 32:03Speaker 8: I tried to ask him what happened?
- 32:05Speaker 1: What happened?
- 32:05Speaker 8: He goes, I don't know, she just fast it did
- 32:07Speaker 8: wake up? I said, no, byes, there's something else that happened.
- 32:10Speaker 10: Responders remove Marina's lifeless body and take her to the
- 32:13Speaker 10: Denver Moor. Her heartbroken family gathers at Christopher's house and
- 32:18Speaker 10: in the most bizarre move imaginable, Angelo goes along with them.
- 32:24Speaker 8: And every time you turn around, that's all he was
- 32:25Speaker 8: concerned on, sitting on my couch and asking for another beer.
- 32:29Speaker 8: He had no emotion whatsoever.
- 32:31Speaker 10: While the family struggles with the sudden death, the coroner
- 32:35Speaker 10: performs an autopsy. The results are devastating, a horrifying map
- 32:41Speaker 10: of thirty five recent injuries on the young woman's body,
- 32:45Speaker 10: showing a blunt object hit her face, mouth, and jaw,
- 32:49Speaker 10: contusions covered her from head to toe, bleeding between the
- 32:54Speaker 10: skull and brain, and a pool of blood in her stomach.
- 32:58Speaker 9: She was beaten from head to from head to toe.
- 33:02Speaker 10: Then, in a shocking report, the Denver Medical Examiner determined
- 33:07Speaker 10: not even one of Marina's injuries on their own could
- 33:11Speaker 10: have killed her. So the cause of death is listed
- 33:14Speaker 10: as undetermined.
- 33:16Speaker 18: How can they tell us an undetermined death? To me,
- 33:19Speaker 18: it sounds pretty evident.
- 33:21Speaker 10: But it wasn't evident to the coroner or police, and
- 33:25Speaker 10: with no actual proof that Angelo even caused Marina's death. Shockingly,
- 33:31Speaker 10: the case is not considered a homicide investigation. And there's more.
- 33:37Speaker 10: Not only can detectives not determine how she died, they
- 33:41Speaker 10: can't even determine where she died. The train, passing through
- 33:46Speaker 10: multiple states, including Wisconsin, Iowa, and Nebraska before arriving in Colorado,
- 33:53Speaker 10: covers multiple police jurisdictions.
- 33:56Speaker 9: Does she die in Nebraska? Was she dead when they
- 33:59Speaker 9: were in Illinois? I have no clue.
- 34:02Speaker 10: When we contacted the Denver police, they have this to say.
- 34:06Speaker 10: The case is being carried as an open death investigation,
- 34:09Speaker 10: but they declined to comment beyond that. The frustrated family
- 34:13Speaker 10: says it took two weeks for Marina's body to be released.
- 34:17Speaker 10: At the viewing, her body was in such bad shape
- 34:20Speaker 10: she had to be positioned to conceal deep bruises.
- 34:24Speaker 11: According to Ancopie said, oh, she had a couple of
- 34:27Speaker 11: bruises on her face for moving boxes.
- 34:29Speaker 6: From our house.
- 34:31Speaker 11: Like okay, well, you don't move boxes with your face.
- 34:34Speaker 10: Lana Martinez, a neighbor of the couple, tells Our Denver
- 34:37Speaker 10: affiliate KDVR. She saw Marina being brutally assaulted by Angelo
- 34:42Speaker 10: just a day before they boarded the train, and.
- 34:45Speaker 8: I saw him hit her.
- 34:47Speaker 9: He hit her in the back and she fell forward
- 34:49Speaker 9: because I saw her go down.
- 34:50Speaker 10: Her arms went up as she fell, fell loose on
- 34:53Speaker 10: the floor.
- 34:55Speaker 7: When I found out Marina had passed away on the train,
- 34:59Speaker 7: my heart dropped.
- 35:02Speaker 3: And I knew right away he did it.
- 35:05Speaker 10: But in yet another blow to the family, Angelo was
- 35:09Speaker 10: not arrested, nor has he ever been charged with any
- 35:12Speaker 10: crime related to Marina's death. Why do you think that
- 35:17Speaker 10: unarrest hasn't been made.
- 35:20Speaker 9: This is what has me really really puzzled. I watched
- 35:24Speaker 9: programs on TV. Oh well, there's not a body. You
- 35:27Speaker 9: can't prove nothing, But here you have a body. It's
- 35:31Speaker 9: trying to tell you something.
- 35:32Speaker 10: At this point, Angelo has also not been charged with
- 35:36Speaker 10: child abuse. But listen to this audio recording of what
- 35:42Speaker 10: his boys themselves are reportedly telling family and social services
- 35:47Speaker 10: following Marina's death.
- 35:50Speaker 3: No, what do you hit her?
- 35:51Speaker 5: That?
- 35:56Speaker 6: And heed me?
- 36:00Speaker 8: I just I don't understand how one could be. I'm
- 36:03Speaker 8: having a really hard time hearing the description.
- 36:08Speaker 9: I thought these children were treated I'm having a hard.
- 36:11Speaker 10: Time for now. The children are in a foster home,
- 36:19Speaker 10: but their family wants them back.
- 36:22Speaker 18: They're ripped away by the system and they haven't been
- 36:24Speaker 18: with family since they belong with us.
- 36:29Speaker 10: And Angelo appears to be moving on.
- 36:32Speaker 13: He's running around carefree and happy. She passed in September
- 36:37Speaker 13: and in April he's already posting in a relationship.
- 36:41Speaker 10: Our Denver affiliate KDVR track down Angelo Mantage for comment
- 36:46Speaker 10: on Marina's death, but he wasn't talking.
- 36:49Speaker 3: Hey Angelo, if you're not, we just want to ask
- 36:53Speaker 3: you what happened.
- 36:54Speaker 6: On the train?
- 36:55Speaker 8: It's cool? Do you get that time out on my face?
- 36:58Speaker 10: And we reached out to Mantage his attorney for comment.
- 37:02Speaker 10: We didn't hear back. The race scene. Wisconsin Police Department
- 37:06Speaker 10: told Crime Watch Daily they have no open investigations against Angelo.
- 37:11Speaker 13: Wisconsin wouldn't pick it up. Denver wouldn't pick it up.
- 37:14Speaker 13: And you know, somebody has to look at this.
- 37:18Speaker 10: While the Colorado Department of Social Services is not allowing
- 37:22Speaker 10: Mantage full custody or unsupervised visits with the children, the
- 37:27Speaker 10: family wants closure to this painful chapter of their lives.
- 37:32Speaker 8: We don't want to go street justice we want to
- 37:34Speaker 8: do this, the leak away, so then when it comes
- 37:38Speaker 8: to light and is proven guilty, there's no more.
- 37:41Speaker 10: Hiding and the question that will forever haunt them. Could
- 37:45Speaker 10: they have done more to protect Marina while she was alive?
- 37:49Speaker 8: I let her down, got true, believe my sister down.
- 37:54Speaker 8: She made it home. But now she's home in a
- 37:58Speaker 8: little chark that sits on my treasuret
