- 0:20[SPEAKER_02]: Hi friends, thank you for joining us today.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_02]: I have Ty Von with us, and this is gonna be so much fun.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_02]: Ty is such a delightful person, so on our 40th birthday, Ty decided to do something completely different.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_02]: She had not lived an adventurous life before that.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_02]: And when she found Adventure, I think it probably changed her life and I'll let her explain more about that even to the point that she started a company called Adventure Ress, not Adventure Ress, but Adventure S as in Tigress, Adventure S, it's called Adventure S tie and she has made
- 1:04[SPEAKER_02]: a business now out of taking people on amazing adventures, not just in the US, but all over the world.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_02]: And I am happy to talk to her today about how adventure helped to transform her life.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_02]: So tie welcome to the program.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: Let's go.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_02]: Well, Ty, I already gave the bullet points, but we'd really like to hear more detail.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_02]: Why is it that you had not done adventure until you're 40th birthday?
- 1:35[SPEAKER_02]: And then you decided to, and all of a sudden, it like opened up a whole new world, tell us about that.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_00]: So, yes, so when I turned 40, so before my 40th birthday, my favorite show at that time was the amazing race.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: And so watching the amazing race for a couple of years, pretty much all the episodes at that time.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_00]: And I was enamored with the show.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_00]: I was addicted to the show.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_00]: And I really, really enjoyed watching these couples, you know, run all over the world, doing all of these amazing challenges.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_00]: All of these different, you know, kind of adrenaline feud, excursions, and just some wild things, and one of the episodes they went zip-liding.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_00]: And so I thought, wow, that looks so like scary, but looks so fine, right?
- 2:33[SPEAKER_00]: Like, what does that light like go flying across this wire, you know, with all of this, you know, space around you?
- 2:41[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and my husband had asked me, what do you want to do for your 40th birthday?
- 2:45[SPEAKER_00]: And I said, you know, I think I want to go zip lining.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_00]: And so we live in California and he's like, well, where is there a zip line?
- 2:53[SPEAKER_00]: Like, we're going to do that.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, I don't know.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_00]: So I googled zip lining California and there was a zip line on Catalina Island.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: And he's like, book it and let's go.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_00]: My God, let's do it.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_00]: So we booked the zip line.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_00]: And went on over there and, you know, we're, you know, walking towards the zip line.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_00]: I'm kind of, you know, I'm feeling some kind of way, but not really understanding what I'm feeling, because I've never zipped line before.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_00]: So I had no expectations, and, you know, just to fast forward, we get to the platform.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_00]: And there's about, let's say, 10 people standing on the platform with us.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_00]: And the guy is asking, okay, who's going to go first?
- 3:36[SPEAKER_00]: You know, they've gone through all the instructions.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_00]: And so my husband, like, volunteers, to go first.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, what are you doing?
- 3:44[SPEAKER_00]: You've never done this before.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_00]: This is my birthday.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_00]: What are you doing?
- 3:48[SPEAKER_00]: And he goes first.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: And so I'm like, oh my gosh, well, I gotta go second.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I mean, I'm his wife, right?
- 3:55[SPEAKER_00]: I gotta go follow my husband.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_00]: And Kirk, when I...
- 4:02[SPEAKER_00]: When I stepped off the platform, I was completely transformed.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_00]: Like that initial just stepping off into the unknown.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_00]: Like I just can't really give you the exact language, but it was something that I have never experienced before.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_00]: Because it was the first, right?
- 4:24[SPEAKER_00]: Now, what you have first in life is kind of like, you know, it's
- 4:27[SPEAKER_00]: it has its own sort of unique way of captivating you and I go across that zipline and I'm holding on to the handles and my body is like swaying and on the right side I see the ocean on the left side I'm looking at the mountains and then underneath me there's a valley and I have this
- 4:51[SPEAKER_00]: of the world.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_00]: And I am nothing.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: The freedom of free flight, the freedom of like not being in control.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: Like it was something mystical and magical and terrifying.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: And all of these emotions were happening.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_00]: But like, you know, I'm flying through it.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: I'm probably doing, I don't know, 45, 50 miles an hour.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_00]: And I've got saliva on the left and so I'm on the right.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just like,
- 5:17[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, wow, this is so cool.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: Like, where has this been my entire life?
- 5:22[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I have missed out.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_00]: And then I didn't realize as we zip across the first line that there's like six more lines.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_00]: So they're like, whoa, there's more, there's more, there's more.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_00]: And so, I was really, I was addicted, I was hooked, and I became like, I needed to know that there's more of this out there, but I didn't realize that there's actually, that was more disappointing, there's more companies that did this.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_00]: So that was my first experience to adventure
- 6:04[SPEAKER_00]: So I give back home and then I would say maybe a week or two later there's a young lady that was running the post on Facebook and she goes, hey, I'm running the post um, does anybody want to go zip lining like in two weeks, I'm like zip, I think there's another zip line and California.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_00]: And she's like, yeah, it's called right wood.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_00]: It's out, I'm like, wow, there's two.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm like, I'm in.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: Now I jump in my vehicle to go meet five women that I had never met before, strangers, to go zip line with them and right wood California.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_00]: That was my second encounter.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_00]: The difference between the first zip line company and the second is the second company had two,
- 6:49[SPEAKER_00]: 200 suspension wood plank bridges, then they had a free fall and they had a repell.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_00]: So now we just up the game.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, wow, this is amazing.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_00]: Now I'm getting ready to not just zipper cross a platform.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: Now I'm going to repell down off of a platform and then I'm gonna do a backwards free fall with some may call a fateful leap.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_00]: And all of that just happened and when I got back home, I said, I need to go and I need to experience this more on my own.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: So I realized that there's the plane was there were everywhere.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_00]: And I jumped on the plane in January of, I wanna say 2016 I think it was, is when they opened up the the Zipline at the Grand Canyon in Arizona.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_00]: I jump on the plane, I do it in one day.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_00]: I literally get on a plane, I need long beach, fly to Vegas, rent a car, drive to the Grand Canyon, zip line, do the sky walk, give back in the car, go back to the airport and fly back home by 8 p.m. Well, that's where it started.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_02]: OK, so.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_02]: not everybody has done a zip line, but you've done a lot more than zip lines now, but this was the beginning and zip lines are a hoot, man.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_02]: They are so much fun.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_02]: But you're turning 40 and you had never done anything adventurous before.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_02]: Why is that?
- 8:26[SPEAKER_00]: So I grew up in the inner city.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_00]: My parents were not outdoorsy people.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: They were working people.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_00]: and I'm an only child, and so my parents, they're,
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: Their way of life was, you know, we provide your housing.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to put you in a private school.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_00]: And we're going to raise you the way that we feel is best.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: My parents didn't have that lifestyle of outdoor living, camping, going to the mountains, you know, summertime.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't do that.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: I was raised in church.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm a church chick.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_00]: I am a church girl and so all of my fun was all wrapped around church so we went to conventions, we did councils, we did young people's meetings, that was my whole life and so which was fine because that's all I knew so I was raised in church and my affiliations and all of my
- 9:36[SPEAKER_00]: associations in my friends and my family were my church friends and family and that was my lifestyle and I was fine with that because I didn't know anything else and so during the summertime or you know vacations we just I did stuff with my with the church or with my cousins family you know we would just you know do go to Magic Mountain go to Disneyland all that fun stuff but it was never like
- 10:02[SPEAKER_00]: hiking or go camping or you know we're gonna go on a it was never that and so those experiences I knew I was ignorant of I didn't know anything about that because I was not exposed to that that was not my world and so there was a TV show that came into my life you know at 40 years old and that's where I was like I want to try this I'm interested in what this is I don't know what this is but
- 10:31[SPEAKER_02]: And I think there's common for people to go through 40 years and say, I've never, I've never even dipped my toe into that world.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_00]: 100% it is definitely common.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_00]: It is lack of exposure and sometimes it's generational because if your parents didn't do it your grandparents didn't do it.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_00]: And so sometimes it takes having an eye opener or seeing someone else do something that looks interesting that you may want to try and it also means that you
- 11:04[SPEAKER_00]: are open to new things in life like you're not just claustrophobic and you're just not, you know, stuck in your own little bubble or on your little world.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_00]: Like you want to do things outside of what's normal or outside of what is comfortable.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_00]: Like I want to do something new.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_00]: I want to have this new experience or have this new.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_00]: And so, I mean, I don't know why I wanted to go and, you know, hang on a wire, but I thought it was fine.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_00]: I thought it looked really cool.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_00]: And so,
- 11:34[SPEAKER_00]: After doing the initial zip lining, after going to Arizona, I went to New York, I got on an airplane and just started traveling on my own, I went to New Mexico, I would Google these zip lines and I would just go do it.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_00]: And so it became a hobby, something fun that I enjoyed doing.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_00]: Then one day I went to a gym.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_00]: By trade I was a professional nanny.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_00]: So I had my nanny kid and we went to the gym they were she was doing this class and I met another woman there and she was bringing her child and the kids at the time were too and she her night became friendly because we saw each other once a week and she explained to me that she's kind of you know tapping into the film world.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_00]: I said oh that's really cool we talked about that.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_00]: I told her you know that I was I had this hobby and I was zip lining
- 12:30[SPEAKER_00]: And she said to me, she says, tie.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_00]: She goes, I have a suggestion.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_00]: I have a request.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_00]: And I said, OK, she goes, why don't you go on Facebook and do an invite a group of people that look like us to go zip-winding?
- 12:50[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, why in the world, what I want to do that?
- 12:55[SPEAKER_00]: Um, because I really enjoyed doing it on my own and I could control that, um, I didn't care about if other people went toward that, that was not my thing, so I said, okay, she goes, just run a pulse on social media, see who responds, if people respond, great, if they don't, that's fine, going about your business, I said, you know what I'll do it, I said, I'll do it one time, if nobody responds, I will not do this again.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_00]: That was June the 19th of 2000.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_00]: Now, June 14th, 2019, and from that day on, I have sold out of every single event that I've ever put together.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: That particular zip line, we did zip lining.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_00]: I wanna say about seven or eight months.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_00]: The same exact zip line, every single month.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_00]: same one and invited different people every single month.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_00]: She came with me to film it.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_00]: And so we started creating these videos of this uplining and just, you know, and I said, this is really cool.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_00]: That was 2020.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, 2019.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_00]: So then 2020 comes.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_00]: It's the pandemic.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_00]: And so with the blind January, with the blind February, the pandemic hits much.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_00]: And I said, oh my gosh, what are we going to do?
- 14:19[SPEAKER_00]: Because now we've got this audience that's interested in ziplining and we're inviting all these people.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_00]: And so, my call, the zip line coming up and they're like, well, we're not shut down.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, oh, great.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_00]: We can keep zip lining.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_00]: So then I said to my, to my now friend, who's like my partner now who's coming to film all this stuff, I said, let's open this up.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_00]: Let's do other things.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_00]: And so she's like, okay, Greta said, people, the outside world never shut down.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_00]: But the inside world shut down, but the outside world did not shut down.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_00]: And so I said, okay, so then we added,
- 14:57[SPEAKER_00]: We added the kayaking.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_00]: We added white water rafting.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_00]: We added skydiving.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_00]: We added ATV riding in Lake Arrowhead.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_00]: Like we just, I kept it going.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_00]: I said, well, let's do this.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_00]: And 45 people, 50 people, we did a ropes course in your Belinda California.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it just kept going.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_00]: And that's when I realized there's something happening.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_00]: There's something.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_00]: Um, that is happening where I am now bringing, I'm, I'm running these posts on social media groups of people are responding.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_00]: They want to do something.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_00]: They want to get outside.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_00]: And although there's this epidemic going on, pandemic in the world, we're all wearing masks, but we're still outside.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_02]: They're having a good time.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_00]: Having the time of our lives.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_00]: And it wasn't just people that look like me.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_00]: It was everybody.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_00]: It was black, white, Asian.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_00]: If you had two legs and you wanted to do this, you were welcome to come.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_00]: And it just the exposure and the invitation and someone needed someone to lead this.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_00]: And I was doing it out of fun, out of a hobby, out of something that I now enjoyed.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_00]: But I say, well, this is really interesting and just magical and powerful to just tell people, hey, I'm going to Newport, Abija, and I'm going to go, you know, Paris, only who wants to go.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_00]: And 45 people say, I'm there, I want to go too.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_00]: And so it just became,
- 16:36[SPEAKER_00]: A community thing, it became a way of people coming together to talk, to laugh, to light up what was really gone on in the world at that time.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_00]: And I realized that this adventure has taken on a new term.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_00]: Because now, I have the attention of so many people and I can't stop like it has to keep going people We're looking forward to this every month.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_00]: We were doing these at these adventures every month and then I said Well, let's take it up a notch.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_00]: So I told my my partner.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_00]: I said less bungee jump Let's go to the bridge to nowhere and Azusa and let's bungee jump She's like tie you have foster mind.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_00]: I said I know I know
- 17:20[SPEAKER_00]: But let's see who's going to say yes, 35 people said I'm in I said I need you guys to meet me at this location We had to be there like at six a.m. and 35 people woke up at 4 a.m.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, to meet us at the bridge to nowhere.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_00]: So we had to hike.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_00]: This is where it became intense.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_00]: We had to hike five miles in and five miles back.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_02]: Wow.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_00]: These people that came with us were not experienced hikers.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_00]: These are people that just say, you know what?
- 18:02[SPEAKER_00]: I want to do something.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_00]: I want to do something new.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_00]: Some of these people were like, I'll never, ever do this again with you, Ty.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_00]: I know what, this is a one and done for me.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_00]: So 35 of us hiked in about 16 of us actually jumped off the bridge.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_00]: And the group that was with us were, I would say we were probably between 45 and maybe 55 years old.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_00]: I was blown away.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_00]: I was blown away that people got, we carpooling to drive.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_00]: So I knew at that point I said, okay, this is a business, this is not just a hobby.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_00]: I have now turned a leaf and now I am, and I've been straight leader and I accepted it.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_02]: Well, that's kind of fascinating.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_02]: I love stories because I have an entrepreneurial spirit.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_02]: It's almost like something finds you, but I have to say this.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_02]: I can tell that you are charismatic, you're a leader among people, and you obviously have a lot of friends.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_02]: And when you started saying, hey, let's go do something new.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_02]: It takes someone like you to rally everyone around an idea like that.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_02]: So, it's a combination, right?
- 19:29[SPEAKER_02]: But it's amazing to me that it seems like it found you, but you were the right person for it.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's really neat.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know, sometimes you're calling comes in ways that you,
- 19:47[SPEAKER_00]: It was almost like it was natural, right?
- 19:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, here I am just doing mind of my own business, doing my thing, and then I just say, okay, you know, who wants to come and do this with me?
- 19:58[SPEAKER_00]: And at the time, it took about two years before I realized like I was a leader.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you know, I'm like, I'm just inviting people to come, like this is, this is just fun.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_00]: And I realized I said, okay, God, I'm having fun.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_00]: And long as I'm having fun, I'm going to continue to do this, even if it becomes a business, it has to maintain the joy, it has to have heart, it has to have
- 20:31[SPEAKER_00]: I want people to come and have memories in moment and I want them to come and do something that stretches and challenges them, but when you have the support of the people around you, you can, you can push people off a bridge if you have it.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_00]: If you have the right voices and the right love and just the care and it and we it became infectious it really did because the love was there the unity was there the fact that people were interested in meeting new people because we're all strangers coming together.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_00]: Right, and the summer, you know, people are inviting their cousins and their sisters and their brothers and, you know, their coworkers or whatever and we all get together and all like you guys are all loony tunes like me, but it was, it's, it's just, it's fun and so what happened was, after we did our monthly adventures, the stuff that we were doing here, we would just really maximizing all the stuff that California had to offer as much as we could.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_00]: And then the 22 I said, well, now that we've done a lot here, let's bump it up another notch.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_00]: And I told my partner I said, let's go to Canada.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_00]: I said, at that time, I had now become like this adventure kind of sore.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_00]: Like I am now the zipline.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_00]: Everyone knew me as zipline.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_00]: You know, that crazy girl looked like to zipline.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_00]: She's always zipline, zipline, zipline, zipline, zipline.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_00]: So then I said, well, what's the longest zipline here in North America?
- 22:14[SPEAKER_00]: I'm in Southern, but I'm in North America.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_00]: So I Google there's a zipline called the Sasquash.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_00]: in Whistler Canada and there was the longest zip line in North America at 7,000 feet across one line and I said let's go do that line and let's see who 1,000 feet across.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_00]: And I said, I want to go do that.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_00]: And so I built a whole itinerary just around that zipline.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_00]: So I said, well, while we're here, we'll zipline.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_00]: They had the ATV in Whistler.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_00]: They had a Bob sled right there.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_00]: They had the bungee jump in Whistler.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_00]: So all of these activities were happening in one central location.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_00]: I said, well, let's build a whole trip.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_00]: Just around this and we'll stay in the village and let's do this.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_00]: 30 people said yes 30 so I said okay, this is this is great We got 30 people when I go to Canada.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I'm still blown away that this is really happening because I Just I just didn't know and you realize So there's people out there that really want to travel and really want to do this stuff, but they're looking for someone
- 23:32[SPEAKER_00]: to that that either has the passion to build this out has the passion for adventure and really loves the outdoors and has an affinity for this and they just want someone that they can trust because you really, there's there's two things that have to happen.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_00]: Three, three, in order for people to follow you.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_00]: They have to like you.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_00]: Then they have to trust you.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_00]: And then they have to want to do what it is that you are if it's a business, they have to believe in your product or your service.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_00]: And I said, okay, I guess the product is blinding.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_00]: And they all were like, yeah, Ty, let's do it.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_00]: To this day, we used to talk about that trip.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_00]: So that was 2022.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_00]: So I said, okay, there's more to this.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_00]: And then I built our belief strip.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_00]: We went to Belize in 24.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_00]: We went to Alaska in 24.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_00]: All of this is centered around ziplining, but then it becomes a whole package.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_00]: And then what I learned was this, this is where I knew life was changing.
- 24:44[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna back up a little bit.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_00]: We did our first skydiving event
- 24:51[SPEAKER_00]: And 2020, we don't have first-guide diving event in 2020.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_00]: I'm trying not to get emotional here.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_00]: November 2020, we did our skydiving.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_00]: Four days before we did the skydiving, my father passes away.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_02]: Four days.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_00]: So I get on social media and I put out there, I tell them the audience what has happened that I needed to cancel the skydive.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_00]: And then my husband tells me something really remarkable and it strengthened and it reminded me of who I was.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_00]: He said, you can't cancel the skydive.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_00]: And I said, I have to.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, you know, my dad just passed away.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_00]: He goes, no, this is how you have always overcome.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_00]: you have been strengthened, you have, you are an encourager, you are someone that can fight through the pain, you are leading people, people are looking forward, they're looking for you to show up.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_00]: And you got to show up.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_00]: You can't, you can't abort the mission now.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_00]: You are here for a reason.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_00]: God has given you this gift, and he's giving you this talent.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_00]: And you got to go forward.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_00]: You can't cancel.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_00]: And I said, oh my God, he was like, you're going to show up.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_00]: And people are going to come because they believe in you.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_00]: And now, when you skydive, this skydive, it's going to have a purpose behind it.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to do this with a completely different mindset.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_00]: I said, but what if they don't show up?
- 26:37[SPEAKER_00]: He goes, they're going to show up.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_00]: When I tell you everybody showed up, everybody came, and it was amazing.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_00]: They loved on me, they hugged me, they supported me, everyone said, we're showing up.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_00]: You need us, but we need you.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_00]: And that was when I knew, um, I said, this skydiving, this adventure thing, this is who I am.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_00]: This is what I'm going to do.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_00]: And we went and we had an amazing skydive 20.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was 20 people, 20 or 25 people showed up.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_00]: And we all,
- 27:19[SPEAKER_00]: It was amazing.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_00]: The tears and all, but I knew I said, this is, I'm going to do this and I knew at that point this was going to be something I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_00]: And there was no going back and we've skydive now three times, I've taken groups and they say yes and I
- 27:42[SPEAKER_00]: It's, it's, it's great.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_00]: It's, it's amazing.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_02]: So what is it about it?
- 27:48[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, people think about doing things that would be completely outside of the ordinary, right?
- 27:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_02]: And zip lining is an example.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_02]: The skydiving, I think, maybe is even a more extreme example.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_02]: What is it that they need to go try to do the thing?
- 28:08[SPEAKER_02]: Do they need permission?
- 28:10[SPEAKER_02]: Do they need someone to say, I'll do it with you?
- 28:15[SPEAKER_02]: What is it that opens that door?
- 28:17[SPEAKER_02]: Ty, you've clearly opened the door for a lot of people, the door of adventure, right?
- 28:22[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_00]: So, what opens the door?
- 28:33[SPEAKER_00]: desire, risk, change, wanting to transition from ordinary to extraordinary, wanting to leave an imprint, not caring about what other people think, wanting to not be the same, wanting to be challenged.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_00]: taking risk that are calculated, intentional, bold living, people want to do it.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_00]: People are looking for someone that does that, that they can either look at and say, I want to do what she's doing.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_00]: If she can do it, I can do it.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_00]: People use, well, I have encouraged people to use adventure as a metaphor for life.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_00]: Um, if you, you know, wanting to skydive, wanting to hang glide, wanting to pair a glide, these are all really big, risky, inherently dangerous things to do.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_00]: Um, walking away from a job you've been on for 20 years is hard.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_00]: Having a child diagnosed with leukemia is hard.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_00]: Um, being starting school at 45 years old is hard, starting a business is hard.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_00]: So there are hard things that we do all the time.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_00]: And there are some things that we have to do.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_00]: There are some challenges that come in our life that we have to do.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_00]: Um, they're challenging.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_00]: Um, they're, they're hard.
- 30:35[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but when we take these risks to go skydiving, um, pair of gliding, hang gliding.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_00]: Some people say, wow, you know, doing these,
- 30:46[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, you know, when you do this, it just seems so scared like, aren't you scared of dying?
- 30:51[SPEAKER_00]: Aren't you scared of, you know, what if something happens to the, to the, uh, to the hang glider and, you know, what if you skydive and, you know, the, uh, the, uh, parachute doesn't deploy.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_00]: Well,
- 31:04[SPEAKER_00]: What if it does deploy?
- 31:06[SPEAKER_00]: What if I have an amazing jump?
- 31:09[SPEAKER_00]: What if I zip-line and enjoy the freedom of what that feels like, I'm not in control.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_00]: And that's the thing about life.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_00]: Is we want to be in control of everything.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_00]: But adventure says, it's in control of everything.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_00]: When you step up with platforms,
- 31:32[SPEAKER_00]: That's what's in control.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_00]: You're saying, I submit to whatever it is I signed up to do.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_00]: I submit to the waiver, I submit, I submit to whatever it is that I am agreeing to do.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_00]: And whatever that looks like.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_00]: I'm okay with that.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_00]: People ask me this and I kid you not.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_00]: They say, tie, you know, you know, do you have, you know, your life insurance tight, you know, or you make you sure that you know, you have all of your ducks in a row, you know, you, I said look.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_00]: I understand that what we do, it is risky.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_00]: And yes, all of my insurance, you know, my paperwork, well, it's all tight, it's all great and one of something I have with St. Mima has been going to be fine.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_00]: but I don't want to live in a bubble.
- 32:21[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want other people to not experience this entire, like the world is big and there's so much to behold, there's so much to do.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_00]: You know, when we stand on these platforms, you have a 360 degree view of something that you did not create.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_00]: Something that you have no
- 32:44[SPEAKER_00]: It was not your imprint, it was not your talent, it was not your breath, it was God's.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think I am very privileged to be able to stand on these platforms and to see the vastness and the grandeur of his glory.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_00]: That's just me.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_00]: And when I look around, I see the elements and I see the trees and the bird
- 33:13[SPEAKER_00]: And I am inhaling fresh crisp air.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_00]: And I look over and I'm like, this is picture perfect.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's gotta be a backdrop of heaven.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_00]: This has to be what it looks like.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_00]: Because it is absolutely stunning.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_00]: And I believe that just standing in on the platforms or even in the sky when we're skydiving and you can see so much is peaceful.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_00]: And there's no disturbance.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_00]: There's no cell phones, there's no devices, there's nothing that's capturing your attention but what's in front of you.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_00]: And that's the beauty and the magic and that's what keeps me wanting more.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_00]: I keep it.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_02]: I love the way you see it.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_00]: Because it's all different.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_00]: Every space that you enter into is different.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_00]: And like people ask me, don't you get tired of zipline?
- 34:07[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna know, zipline is like a fingerprint.
- 34:10[SPEAKER_00]: There are no two ziplines that are alike.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_00]: So I've zip line in Dubai, I've zip line in Mexico and Jamaica and all places, and they're all are different.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_00]: And I have a testament of each one of those zip lines.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't get sick of it.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_00]: And I love the fact that, yes, it does push you.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_00]: And sometimes when I'm standing on platforms getting ready to bungee jump, I am terrified.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_00]: I am scared out of my mind, but I'm not going to allow fear to disrupt my assignment.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_00]: I want to feel what it's like to just let it all go.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_00]: And I trust in whatever that I'm doing that I'm going to bounce back.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_00]: But in the event that I don't, I would never want to leave this earth completely full.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_00]: I want to leave empty.
- 35:05[SPEAKER_00]: So if I jump in something happens I'm okay at least I was doing what it was that I was called to do what my passion was.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_00]: You know my favorite one of my heroes I have two heroes and I'm sure you know both of them.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_00]: Alex Hanald, who is a world renowned free climber and of course beer grills right
- 35:31[SPEAKER_00]: they push the boundaries, they push the limits.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_00]: But they also understand that there is a life or death.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_00]: There's a 50, 50.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_00]: What they do is a 50% chance of it not working out.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_00]: But then there's a 50% chance that they will live and that they will have so many moments where they'll say, yes, they have stories to tell.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_00]: It's all storytelling.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_00]: And it makes you laugh, it makes you, it makes you giggle, it makes you happy, it makes you fearless, you know, you just have so many wonderful discussions.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's a cup of tea.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 36:19[SPEAKER_00]: Let's just have a cup of tea.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_00]: Let's talk about the last time you jumped out of an airplane.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_00]: You know, what does that feel like?
- 36:24[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's table top conversation, my table top conversation.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_00]: And I just, and I realize that these moments are not just important to me.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_00]: I had a lady come up to me and she said, tie, I lost eight family members in one year.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_00]: So when I skydive today, it's going to mean something to me.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_00]: I had another woman who is taking care of her handicap sign.
- 36:57[SPEAKER_00]: And she goes, I don't get a chance to do stuff like this.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_00]: This is amazing.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_00]: Like I need a break.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_00]: I need something that is going to be for me.
- 37:05[SPEAKER_00]: I want to feel something unique, something that I just can't walk into a store and do this.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this is not about a purse.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_00]: This is not about the ordinary.
- 37:16[SPEAKER_00]: I want to do something that just changes my outlet, my perspective.
- 37:22[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, well, you know,
- 37:24[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't have a loan writing.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_00]: We'll do that.
- 37:26[SPEAKER_00]: It will change our perspective.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_00]: And so I counted as an honor to be able to take people into a space in a place that
- 37:41[SPEAKER_00]: is unparalleled and unprecedented, because they didn't even know the stuff existed.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't even know that the stuff was here.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_00]: They're like, how do you find, who looks for paramotoring?
- 37:51[SPEAKER_00]: Who knows what a paramotor is?
- 37:53[SPEAKER_00]: But you, I'm like, I know.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_00]: You know who, or you know what a paramotor is?
- 37:59[SPEAKER_00]: So I just, it's something that I now know, I wanna do for the rest of my life.
- 38:12[SPEAKER_00]: to these excursions, I mean, I have a group of people and they're like, when you build it, we will come.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_02]: I have a friend actually several, but one that I'm thinking of in particular, when we were in our early 20s.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_02]: we were uh... rock climbing sport repelling backpacking mountain biking uh... kayaking white water kayaking doing all the things and one day he looked at me and i don't know where he got this but it it wasn't original to him i'm sure but he says man i would so much rather die living than to live dying and i agreed at the time and in a way i still do yes
- 38:58[SPEAKER_02]: But over the years it shifted a little bit for me, Ty.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_02]: Now I realize, you don't have to die living.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_02]: You can live living.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, and you can love it.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_02]: And you can love it.
- 39:12[SPEAKER_02]: And so whenever you're getting ready to step out into the vacuum in front of a high zip line or out of an airplane, that one is even crazier for me, there's that moment where you're going to step away
- 39:30[SPEAKER_02]: And man, what a moment that is.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_02]: It changes people, but we can do these things.
- 39:41[SPEAKER_02]: They're terrifying, but we can do them safely.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_02]: And that's the beauty of it.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_02]: But because it has that element of, I've never done anything like this.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if this is smart.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if I should be doing this at all.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_02]: It's that element that I think it just grabs your heart.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_02]: and teaches you something about yourself.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_02]: When you take that step.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_00]: It does.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_00]: It builds your inner strength like your core because when you're standing on a plank to get ready to bungee jump, everything in you is telling you not to do it.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_00]: You're like, there's no way my body
- 40:30[SPEAKER_00]: You're literally putting your body in shock.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_00]: You're putting your body at risk.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_00]: And it's all mine over matter.
- 40:40[SPEAKER_00]: But because it's mine over matter, your mind is saying, no, no, no.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_00]: We're not avoiding this.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna do this.
- 40:49[SPEAKER_00]: I'm in control of my body.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_00]: Your mind controls what your body does.
- 40:53[SPEAKER_00]: You tell yourself what you're going to do.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_00]: And you're saying, no, I'm gonna do this because I need to get over some things.
- 41:02[SPEAKER_00]: This is my therapeutic moment.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_00]: This is how I'm gonna, this is my therapy moment.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_00]: I am gonna jump off of this ledge and I'm gonna make it, but when I come up, it's almost like an adventure baptism.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, when I jump over and I come back up, I will have a whole new way of thinking.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I'm going to get up off of this platform and I'm going to start my life fresh.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to do some things I never thought I could do because I just did the impossible.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_00]: I just did what most people will never do and I live to tell it.
- 41:43[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm going to scream in horror as they're, you know, bouncing me back up like a rag doll, or I'm just dangling down here.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_00]: But when I come back up, I now know.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_00]: that I really can't do anything, and that I am not limited to people's opinion, people's views.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not limited to my own opinion.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_00]: I am going to get out of my own way and open up these doors and walk and start those new things that I thought were hard that I couldn't do.
- 42:15[SPEAKER_00]: But if I was able to mentally put myself at risk for something that is a 30 second high, I mean, because you know, you jump, it's over.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_00]: It's done, right?
- 42:26[SPEAKER_00]: But now I want to take my life.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_00]: And I want to start this business.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_00]: I want to go buy a home with the first time.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_00]: I want to start school.
- 42:34[SPEAKER_00]: I know that I can continue taking care of my handicapped parents.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_00]: I've got now the shrimp.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_00]: I've got this, I can do all things.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_00]: And because I know God is strengthening me and he is helping me, you know, I think I want to do something else.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_00]: That's a little bit more risky.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I want to, and so I think that we, we take risk every day, every day.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_00]: We're just not, you know, taking adventurous,
- 43:04[SPEAKER_00]: life's an adventure.
- 43:06[SPEAKER_00]: And I just happen to have found a special niche that people have now that they gravitate towards and and we're
- 43:20[SPEAKER_00]: taking these long journeys, you know, we also, you know, I'm going to Bali next next month.
- 43:27[SPEAKER_00]: And I have a group that's going in, and we're gonna do some things that, you know, you just can't, you just can't do in the US.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_00]: See it over, we're gonna go on this sky bike and we're gonna get on a bike and we're gonna grow across a zip line on a bike.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_00]: Like that's crazy, right?
- 43:42[SPEAKER_02]: That's a thing I've noticed now.
- 43:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it's called sky biking.
- 43:46[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but it makes me happy, it makes, it's the reals me, um, and I think that, um, I think you've got to find what drives you in life, draw, find what gives you purpose, find what gives you meaning, find what satisfies that, that thing inside of you, that you're yarning for something, you're like, I don't know what it is, but you got to keep searching.
- 44:12[SPEAKER_00]: Turn the TV on.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 44:14[SPEAKER_00]: Find the amazing race.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I did.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_00]: Find your own amazing race.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_00]: You know, what does that look like to you?
- 44:20[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I'm on your website right now.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_02]: Tie, and I was just, you saw me looking.
- 44:26[SPEAKER_02]: Eight day Valley Adventure Niagara Falls Adventure Dubai adventure.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_02]: Costa Rica, adrenaline escape.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_02]: Sedona, Arizona.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_02]: Mediterranean cruise, what China adventure, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_02]: You've got some stuff going on.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_00]: Just a few things.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_00]: And that's just, and I'm not, I'm going to even have way down.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that's just, yeah, that's a few, few little fun things going on.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_00]: A few things, yeah.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_02]: Wow.
- 45:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 45:04[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I tell you, it does sound absolutely delightful.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_02]: And I love your perspective.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I, we were not put on this earth to be bored and to live mundane lives.
- 45:19[SPEAKER_02]: We were, we were put here to thrive.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 45:24[SPEAKER_02]: So Ty, you know, earlier you mentioned that your
- 45:33[SPEAKER_02]: And I like to live in a world where how you look doesn't matter, except to celebrate it.
- 45:39[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 45:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_02]: But that's that's kind of a thing I heard another study that was saying that non-cocations are underrepresented in adventure sports.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, we've got a bunch of white guys out doing stuff.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_02]: Where's everybody else?
- 45:54[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_02]: And so I'm wondering what your perspective is on that, because obviously you're building a very successful business around getting all kinds of people out there.
- 46:06[SPEAKER_02]: But what has been your personal experience with that?
- 46:12[SPEAKER_00]: So before I answer that question, just for your audience, our, my business is all inclusive, right?
- 46:21[SPEAKER_00]: So everyone is welcome to come on, the journey that we are curating, everyone, but for me, the reason why I think a lot of
- 46:36[SPEAKER_00]: African Americans, particularly have not really crossed over to the extreme adventure.
- 46:45[SPEAKER_00]: You know, skating, bicycling, maybe, you know, jet skis, those are pretty common.
- 46:54[SPEAKER_00]: But the extreme stuff has sometimes a negative connotation because it's so dangerous, right?
- 47:02[SPEAKER_00]: You know, most of us really, you know, we care, everyone cares about their life, but I think there's a ignorance that comes with like, oh, if you're ziplining or if you're skydiving or you're, you know, bungee jumping like these are just, they're so dangerous.
- 47:16[SPEAKER_00]: Like, why would you want to risk your life like that?
- 47:19[SPEAKER_00]: And this is the ignorance because people don't understand.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_00]: And I've, and I've told people this many times when you zipline, those cables, number one, hold 26,000 pounds.
- 47:30[SPEAKER_00]: The trolley itself holds 5,000 pounds.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_00]: You're gonna be fine.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_00]: Things do happen.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_00]: It is a risk.
- 47:37[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying that it's 100% safe, but there's a risk.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_00]: But I think that people just don't understand.
- 47:43[SPEAKER_00]: They're not educated.
- 47:44[SPEAKER_00]: They're not learned when it comes down to safety doing these things.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_00]: And you're probably, you know, you're gonna have more car crashes than you are people, you know, zip lining and dying,
- 48:00[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, these companies are not trying to have you as their liability.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think that we just, it's lack of exposure, lack of understanding.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that people need to, and lack of experience.
- 48:21[SPEAKER_00]: Like you just, you gotta get out there.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_00]: We're so conformed into doing X, Y, and Z.
- 48:28[SPEAKER_00]: that there's other letters in the alphabet and we've turned to blind eye to those and I believe that if you have someone that can educate you that you see that looks like you're doing this.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_00]: It's fun, it's scary, it's um,
- 48:50[SPEAKER_00]: people are curious, people want to know, like I said, we take risk in our regular lives every day, and adventure doesn't have a color to it, adventure doesn't have a race to it, adventure is not segregated, adventure is not, you know, this group does this, we're not, it's not grouped off, adventure is for everybody, and now I think we're in a sense the pandemic, we have, you know, when
- 49:20[SPEAKER_00]: Since the pandemic, we are more outdoors now.
- 49:24[SPEAKER_00]: There's so many Facebook groups that are hiking groups, biking groups, and they are multicultural.
- 49:33[SPEAKER_00]: Some of them are strictly like an all black biking group, or I even know that there's a all black skiing group.
- 49:40[SPEAKER_00]: Like I love that, like, so it's happening.
- 49:44[SPEAKER_00]: The doors are opening.
- 49:46[SPEAKER_00]: The atmosphere is more colorful.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_00]: The mountains are seeing more than just, you know, snow.
- 49:58[SPEAKER_00]: And I love that we are, we are opening our eyes and we are having these experiences now.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_00]: Whereas before it just was, it was very few.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_00]: It was very few, but it's shifting and I thank God for this shoot and I'm, and I'm a part of that shift and I, you know, we're still limited to the sky.
- 50:20[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, I'm bad.
- 50:21[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not doing the bungee jumping, but there's more people out there that are open to what nature is offering and the build out of what it's like.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_00]: to inhale on top of a peak and they're taking those risks and they're because to outdoors outside is so much healthier for your body, for your mind, for clarity, to just go out there and to just sit.
- 50:59[SPEAKER_00]: meditate if that's what you want to do.
- 51:03[SPEAKER_00]: The experience is the exposure is just it's such a a fulfilling way.
- 51:10[SPEAKER_00]: I guess it's like the fresh cup of tea to just sit outside and to be in awe and to be in wonder.
- 51:17[SPEAKER_00]: that there are no two mountains that are alike.
- 51:19[SPEAKER_00]: There are no two valleys that are alike.
- 51:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's all different.
- 51:22[SPEAKER_00]: The trees, the animals, it's all different.
- 51:25[SPEAKER_00]: And it's something that we should really be a part of every day if we possibly can.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_00]: And if you're looking for someone, so you know, to lead you the way, just let me know.
- 51:31[SPEAKER_00]: Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
- 51:41[SPEAKER_02]: Let me share just a little bit of my background.
- 51:43[SPEAKER_02]: I'm curious what your perspective will be.
- 51:45[SPEAKER_02]: This will be like, uh, I thought, I thought provoking thing maybe.
- 51:49[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_02]: My grandfather was born in 1911 in Oklahoma.
- 51:55[SPEAKER_02]: And because Oklahoma had been in Dintarritory until 1907, it was still the Wild West.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_02]: you know is twenty thirty years behind the rest of the nation at that point he was a true cowboy and when i say true cowboy i mean you know he's writing the bucking broncos he's hurting the cattle he probably carried a six-shooter on his hip for most of his life you know he he was the real authentic cowboy he told me a story about seeing airplane for the first time he was out working in a field and airplane flew over and he ran for cover because he knew it was going to fall out of the sky
- 52:32[SPEAKER_02]: He died at the age of 76, and I believe I'm right about this.
- 52:38[SPEAKER_02]: He never once rode in an airplane, but that's rewind a little bit.
- 52:45[SPEAKER_02]: I started doing distance road biking as a young man in the people in Northeastern Oklahoma.
- 52:49[SPEAKER_02]: That just wasn't really a thing yet.
- 52:51[SPEAKER_02]: And I remember one day a high school friend of mine was working on a road true.
- 52:56[SPEAKER_02]: And when I went riding by, he yelled at me, you're just an idiot.
- 53:03[SPEAKER_02]: Culturally, writing a bicycle for 50 or 100 miles was not something that you could do for I grew up, and my grandfather wouldn't dream of it, but what he did I think was actually truly dangerous like breaking bucking Broncos, and you know, so the point I'm getting at is
- 53:33[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm wondering if if that's part of this dynamic, is it a culture shift that you're looking for?
- 53:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, is definitely a culture shift because the people that I grew up around, we were all inner city kids, right?
- 53:56[SPEAKER_00]: So our adventure was going outside writing our bikes up and down the street.
- 54:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and our roller skates, that's what we did.
- 54:03[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 54:04[SPEAKER_00]: So it is definitely a paradigm, like a cultural paradigm where there is a shift that's happening where we're like, oh, we can have epic is it's foreign.
- 54:20[SPEAKER_00]: You know, adventure was formed.
- 54:23[SPEAKER_00]: It's not something that you just did.
- 54:26[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you have to go search for this, right?
- 54:28[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you have to, when you go camping, it takes a lot to, you know, you got a camper, you've got to pack up stuff, you've got, it's a lot to it.
- 54:36[SPEAKER_00]: We just didn't do that.
- 54:39[SPEAKER_00]: And so now we want to, we're taking,
- 54:48[SPEAKER_00]: our outside experiences and we're multiplying that and we're saying there's more to this who's out there doing this and we're intentionally looking for people that are doing this groups that are doing this organizations that are doing this like we want to be a part of that
- 55:07[SPEAKER_00]: I want to have, I want to feel that, I want to do it, I want to learn it, I want to be exposed to it and I want to look, I want people that look like me to get on that boat.
- 55:16[SPEAKER_00]: I want people that look like me that zip line.
- 55:17[SPEAKER_00]: I want people that look like me that jump in not those airplanes.
- 55:20[SPEAKER_00]: Because I think that when you culturally, when you can connect and you put it together, you create your own conversation.
- 55:26[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean like well what did you feel and how was that for you and when he when he clips you on with the the pilot clips you want to you rolled out that plane what was that like the conversation is just different.
- 55:38[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and there's an appreciation, also, that is taking place for the outdoors and people that are just saying, you know, when I stand on the platform to zip line, you know, where there is a tree top platform, whether if it's a mountain platform or if I'm standing on the edge of a cliff and I'm getting ready to hang a lot over 4,000 foot cliff, you know, the conversation when landing is just different.
- 56:07[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I think that we're here to stay, um, adventures here to stay, we are expanding.
- 56:16[SPEAKER_00]: We are, there's a different appreciation for the outside, um, people want to see things and inhale and just, you know, um, but it has to be intentional.
- 56:30[SPEAKER_00]: It's not you have to work at it outside world you have to work at you have to want to do this you have to do an intentionally and most people they don't put this stuff together So you know you get a group leader or someone that's like, okay, I love it so much as I'll I'll curate all this all the time for everybody you guys just you know
- 56:48[SPEAKER_00]: Here's the trip.
- 56:49[SPEAKER_00]: We want to Costa Rica.
- 56:50[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to Dubai, you know, but again, my trips are adventure.
- 56:55[SPEAKER_00]: So when we go to Dubai, we're doing dinner in the sky.
- 56:58[SPEAKER_00]: We're doing skydiving over the palms.
- 57:00[SPEAKER_00]: We're going out to the, to the, to the JS flight and we're going to do the longest supply, one of the second longest supply in the world.
- 57:07[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm looking for adventure, right?
- 57:09[SPEAKER_00]: And there are people that are saying, I want to do that.
- 57:12[SPEAKER_00]: They look that are of color.
- 57:14[SPEAKER_00]: And they're like, this is so cool that you do this.
- 57:17[SPEAKER_00]: So there's, and those are the people that I grant that we gravitate towards with the people that see that it's a need.
- 57:24[SPEAKER_00]: It's not even optional.
- 57:25[SPEAKER_00]: Like you gotta do this.
- 57:27[SPEAKER_00]: Like you gotta have this experience.
- 57:29[SPEAKER_00]: It's ethically terrifying.
- 57:31[SPEAKER_00]: But you gotta go.
- 57:32[SPEAKER_00]: Like, did you want it?
- 57:33[SPEAKER_00]: You're curious.
- 57:36[SPEAKER_00]: And you make people believeers when they see you doing it and how much fun it's because it's fun.
- 57:43[SPEAKER_00]: It's a deep breath and it's an exhale.
- 57:46[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that if we can inhale and exhale in different spaces and places, there's just a love and intrinsic reward and there's a love that comes from that because you realize, oh, I have a log in these spaces and I like being in these spaces.
- 58:05[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm just, like, I can't live without this.
- 58:10[SPEAKER_00]: Like, this is going to be the rest of my life.
- 58:13[SPEAKER_00]: And other people are saying, I want to roll with you.
- 58:15[SPEAKER_02]: I want to roll with you.
- 58:17[SPEAKER_02]: If people want to roll with you, then how do they get in touch with you to do this?
- 58:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 58:24[SPEAKER_00]: So you can find adventures tie, adventures tie.com on...

- 59:22[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, that's so cool.
- 59:23[SPEAKER_02]: And one more time just to be clear.
- 59:26[SPEAKER_02]: Ty is Adventure Us.
- 59:28[SPEAKER_02]: But she is V Adventure S. Yes.
- 59:32[SPEAKER_02]: That's how everything is spelled.

- 1:00:01[SPEAKER_00]: I want to say one more thing.
- 1:00:03[SPEAKER_00]: Adventures the word adventurous actually means women that seek dangerous activities on purpose.
- 1:00:13[SPEAKER_00]: That's actually what it means in the dictionary.
- 1:00:16[SPEAKER_00]: So I just wanted to make sure that people knew you know what it is that I that my life really looks like.
- 1:00:21[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah women that seek dangerous activities on purpose.
- 1:00:27[SPEAKER_02]: I love it.
- 1:00:28[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 1:00:28[SPEAKER_02]: Well, everybody, you heard it.
- 1:00:30[SPEAKER_02]: It might be worth seeking some of that danger just a little bit if you so safely and until the next show get out there and ask some fun.
- 1:00:38[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
- 1:00:39[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
