- 0:00Coming up today on Mini Scroll, Molly Rudder's viral bar makeup
- 0:04scandal, La Roche and Zendaya face backlash over a private jet
- 0:09situation, and an Ariana Grande impersonator drops a
- 0:13documentary. Hi everyone.
- 0:15Welcome to Mini Scroll, the daily Internet culture podcast
- 0:20bringing you the biggest stories from social media, the creator
- 0:22economy, and the digital space every Monday through Thursday
- 0:25and sometimes Fridays like today.
- 0:28I'm your host, Lauren Meissner, the founder of the Australian
- 0:31youth digital media brand Centennial World.
- 0:35Welcome back to mini scroll, everyone.
- 0:36A Friday mini and I feel like these stories are relatively
- 0:39normal for a Friday mini. So we're excited about that.
- 0:42Also, if you guys are watching then you'll notice I am back in
- 0:45my bear costume. I swore I would never wear this
- 0:49sweater again on the podcast after the last time I wore it.
- 0:53You guys were like, I thought you were in a bear costume.
- 0:55I had so many comments about that on Tiktok and then also on
- 0:58the YouTube video and I was like guys I have worn the sweater so
- 1:00many times in the last like 2 years that I've done mini but I
- 1:04don't know what it was but the last time.
- 1:05Hopefully, I am not giving like bear cosplay this time, but if I
- 1:10am, I guess I could be kind of like a cozy vibe, I don't know.
- 1:14Anyways, before I get into it, Please remember to rate, review

- 1:27leave us an Apple review, all that good stuff.
- 1:29All right, let's get into the stories for today.
- 1:32So the first story that I have for you guys today is Molly
- 1:35Rudder is going viral after asking women at a bar to borrow
- 1:40their makeup. I love kind of silly stories
- 1:43like this. Like, people are genuinely mad.
- 1:46And of course, I'll get into why.
- 1:48But this kind of story I feel like is what Minnie thrives on.
- 1:52Like, this is the stuff that I want to be covering.
- 1:55OK, so earlier this week, creator Molly Rudder went viral
- 1:59after posting a TikTok in which she's asking a table of women at
- 2:03a bar if any of them have any makeup that she can borrow
- 2:05because she's going on a last minute date and she wasn't
- 2:08wearing any. So Molly is a creator.
- 2:11She has around 180,000 followers.
- 2:13And even though she's not like the biggest creator, she did
- 2:16become really well known around like 2024 and 2025 for
- 2:21documenting her dating life. And this actually did backfire
- 2:25on her. She's super controversial.
- 2:27A lot of people really don't like her.
- 2:28And in late 2024, she faced backlash after baiting her
- 2:32audience into believing that she had gone on a date with a man
- 2:35who was violent. So in this controversial video,
- 2:38Molly showed herself with fake injuries and flashing emergency
- 2:42lights alongside the caption that it had been the scariest
- 2:45date of her life. People were freaking out about
- 2:48this, of course. And then hours later, she
- 2:49revealed that the footage was actually promoting a haunted
- 2:53house attraction because it was like near Halloween, and that
- 2:56the injuries that she showed were special effects makeup.
- 3:00She insisted that this was not a paid partnership, but
- 3:04regardless, people were super pissed off at her for
- 3:08essentially like, exploiting their concern and using the
- 3:11possibility of going on a date with a violent man for click
- 3:15bait. She's very divisive.
- 3:16She's kind of become a bit of a lol cow, I would say.
- 3:19I know I cannot stop using that label.
- 3:21It's when I rediscovered it recently.
- 3:23I was like, that describes so many of the people that we
- 3:25talked about on Mini Scroll. So she has become kind of a lol
- 3:29cow. Like she's not taken very
- 3:31seriously. OK, so like I said, in this new
- 3:33video, Molly is asking women at a bar for makeup.
- 3:36One of the girls gives her a lip gloss, which Molly then films
- 3:40herself putting directly on her lips.
- 3:43And the girls are hyping her up. Like they're saying she doesn't
- 3:46need any makeup for this date. They're being really sweet about
- 3:48it. There are some people that are
- 3:50like, you can tell that they were kind of like hesitant about
- 3:52this whole situation. But regardless, like they did
- 3:54give her some product, hey. Ladies, I'm so sorry to
- 3:57interrupt. OK?
- 3:58I'm spontaneously having a guy meet me up for a date and I have
- 4:02no makeup on so I'm asking women if they have any makeup on that.
- 4:04Oh my God, do you have anything? Like any like.
- 4:09Concealer or like something? Well, first.
- 4:11Of all, you don't need it, you don't.
- 4:12Need anything? No, but I feel like I look like
- 4:14because this is all my natural skin, so I'm like I'm so paint.
- 4:17Naturally. You know what I mean?
- 4:19Dating is like the worst right now.
- 4:21I dated somebody for a month and they called me and said we're
- 4:23friends, right? I think we're friends.
- 4:25And I was like, I have black honey Clinique.
- 4:28What's that? It's a it's a it looks good on
- 4:31everyone. Hold on I'll put it on.
- 4:33So this video got 3.5 million views and so much backlash.
- 4:37People were really grossed out that she was asking strangers to
- 4:40use their makeup given contamination concerns.
- 4:43People thought it was selfish and attention seeking for her to
- 4:45be interrupting women while out asking them for this.
- 4:48People thought that she was really not reading social cues
- 4:51properly in this interaction. So let me read you some of the
- 4:54top comments. One reads, You don't need it was
- 4:56your cue to stop asking. Another wrote, I would
- 4:59absolutely lie because I wouldn't want a stranger using
- 5:01my makeup. Someone else wrote, That's all
- 5:03you need means stop rubbing my lipstick on your lips, Someone
- 5:07else wrote. Girl, she was probably expecting
- 5:08you to use your finger. OK?
- 5:10Molly has since responded to all the backlash in a new video, and
- 5:14here's what she said. So I recently had a video go
- 5:16viral where I went up to a random group of women at a bar
- 5:20asking if they had any makeup that I could use because I
- 5:22spontaneously planned a date where this guy was arriving in
- 5:2530 minutes and I didn't have any makeup on.
- 5:27Let me tell you, I've been posting on the Internet now for
- 5:30about four years at this point, and I now can have a pretty good
- 5:36gauge when videos are going to go viral.
- 5:38And I did predict that this video was going to reach a lot
- 5:42of people. But I thought it was going to
- 5:45reach people because it was simply a wholesome, adorable
- 5:49moment of women supporting women.
- 5:52OK. I did not expect for the
- 5:56comments section to be blown up with people thinking it would be
- 6:03somehow possible for me in 30 minutes time to go to a store,
- 6:09get makeup, and come back. I don't know if some of you live
- 6:14in a magical land where there's a Sephora at every corner.
- 6:19Like you can just exit a bar and there's Sephora is aplenty.
- 6:23Please let me know if there's a magical place like that that
- 6:26that exists. I would love to go.
- 6:28But. What I do know is that in
- 6:31reality, there are places like cities, like major cities where
- 6:35you can exit a bar and you can find many stores nearby where
- 6:41you could get some make up in a pinch, right?
- 6:43Like Acvs, like a Walgreens, right?
- 6:47But I don't live in one of those places.
- 6:51I live in Buffalo, NY, a small city, a car dominated city with
- 6:59pretty terrible public transportation that's not widely
- 7:02accessible. And I don't have a.
- 7:04Car. So yeah, I mean, this video
- 7:05didn't really go down that well. I think that her delivery is
- 7:10part of the reason why people have a hard time with her in
- 7:13general. OK, my opinion on this, first of
- 7:16all, I don't think it's crazy that she was at the bar with no
- 7:19makeup on. I don't know.
- 7:20I saw some comments like that, like if you were at a bar, did
- 7:23you not already get ready? I mean, there's like levels to
- 7:26getting ready and there's lots of people who would like be
- 7:28going out for a drink with their friends and not care and just
- 7:31wear whatever and wear no makeup versus if they were like going
- 7:34out with a guy. I think one of the things here
- 7:37for me, OK, Molly is around my age, so she is in her 30s.
- 7:40When you're in your 20s, sharing makeup at the bar with random
- 7:44girls is part of bar culture. I cannot stress that enough.
- 7:47I have been in so many bathrooms with so many random girls,
- 7:51helping them do their makeup, fixing their makeup after
- 7:54they've been like crying in the stalls.
- 7:56Sometimes with my own makeup. Like I am that friend that goes
- 7:59out with a purse filled with makeup.
- 8:01If you ever see me with a purse at any given time, all I have in
- 8:05it is makeup. I don't have a wallet.
- 8:07I have all my cards on my phone, OK?
- 8:08I have nothing in that purse except for makeup.
- 8:11So I have like whatever you could need.
- 8:13I always have it on me. That is a literally part of bar
- 8:16culture when you are younger is being in the bathroom with girls
- 8:19that have like a sleigh makeup on and you're like, Oh my God,
- 8:22do you have that lipstick on you that looks so nice?
- 8:25Oh my God. Like what mascara are you
- 8:26wearing? You know, whatever.
- 8:27And then doing each other's makeup and having the best time
- 8:30and sharing drinks, kissing each other.
- 8:32Like there is a way grosser shit in my opinion that goes down at
- 8:35bars. Then sharing each other's
- 8:38lipsticks. OK, I have seen some disgusting
- 8:40shit go down at bars when I was in my 20s and like partying like
- 8:43crazy, kissing boys at bars? Way grosser.
- 8:47Straight men in their 20s at bars?
- 8:50Disgusting. And if I had to go on a date and
- 8:53I had no makeup on and I had 30 minutes till this date, like
- 8:55that would be an emergency situation to me.
- 8:57Would I be going around to random tables asking girls to
- 9:01borrow their makeup at this age? No, because this is where like I
- 9:06can't get behind it. In your 30s, your frontal lobe
- 9:09is fully developed, so you do see the risks in sharing makeup
- 9:14with random strangers or even just your friends.
- 9:16You know, when you're in your 20s and you're having fun and
- 9:18like, whatever, it's all just like fun and games.
- 9:20OK, So I can like understand why the girls share their makeup
- 9:23with her and things like that. But like in your 30s, you have a
- 9:27different perspective. I would say in general, even if
- 9:29you're not really that afraid of germs, I also just feel like if
- 9:33I at this age was at a bar with my friends doing whatever and I
- 9:38wasn't ready and a guy was like can I take you on a date in 30
- 9:40minutes? I would say no.
- 9:43I'm out with my friends. You can take me on a date
- 9:45tomorrow or you can take me on a date in like 2 hours when I've
- 9:48gone home and showered and gotten ready.
- 9:50So that is where I struggled to get behind it because I just
- 9:52feel like you grow out of some of that like male centeredness
- 9:57the older you get and you get a bit more, you know, like a
- 10:00stronger sense of self. I would say.
- 10:02The other thing is you can hear in the video one of the girls
- 10:05say, are you recording? And that I think is like the
- 10:09most egregious part of this whole situation.
- 10:11Like, I don't think the sharing of makeup with strangers at a
- 10:13bar is the craziest thing. But I think it's pretty
- 10:16egregious that she went up and is recording them.
- 10:19I just I can't I cannot get around the recording of
- 10:21strangers in public. Even if we don't see their
- 10:24faces, which we didn't in this video, I still think we can hear
- 10:26their voices. Their reactions is still
- 10:29identifiable. I think it is so wrong.
- 10:31All right, the next story that I have for you guys today is La
- 10:34Roche is currently going viral after it was revealed that he
- 10:37had a private jet waiting for him with a dress.
- 10:40So Lias, whose real name is Elias Medini, posted a video of
- 10:44La Roche backstage at Schiaparelli for Paris O Couture
- 10:48Week. In the video, they are talking
- 10:50about one of the dresses slated to be worn for an upcoming
- 10:53premiere. Law said that he had flown into
- 10:55Paris the night before and had the jet waiting to go to London.
- 10:59They didn't say who and what exactly the dress was for, but
- 11:03as many social media users expected, it was for Zendaya at
- 11:06the Odyssey London premiere. OK so the reception was in like
- 11:092 camps. First fashion lovers were
- 11:12obsessed with the behind the scenes of this where they got
- 11:15this glimpse into like how this all came together.
- 11:18Lobbying backstage waiting for the dress to come.
- 11:20Like literally fresh off the runway with a private jet
- 11:24waiting for him to take the dress to Zendaya.
- 11:26But then the other camp of social media users were less
- 11:29than impressed by the chosen mode of transportation literally
- 11:33for a dress. So a lot of the discourse around
- 11:36this is taking place on Reddit. So let me read you some
- 11:38comments. This one's from our slash pop
- 11:40culture chat. Someone wrote quote.
- 11:42It does definitely dampen my enjoyment of red carpet stuff
- 11:44generally. Like I'm sure they're using
- 11:46private jets to get everyone where they need to be on such
- 11:48tight timelines. But address address the train
- 11:51was also right there. And if insurance or the brand or
- 11:54whatever said no to that, then just wait two days.
- 11:56It's not worth the We're the same day headlines other thread
- 12:00on the R slash What the Frock subreddit epitomized the broader
- 12:03sentiment. Some users loved the effort that
- 12:05Lawton Zendaya went to, while others were criticizing the
- 12:08look, saying the rush was excessive.
- 12:11They claimed that the dress didn't even fit Zendaya right
- 12:13because Law prioritized shock factor over everything else.
- 12:17So this is how the conversation went.
- 12:18Somebody wrote Law had a private jet to transport the dress from
- 12:22the Paris show that morning to the premiere the same evening.
- 12:24And then a response. Well, that at least explains why
- 12:27it doesn't fit her properly if it wasn't properly fitted for
- 12:30her body. Someone responds oh damn it did
- 12:33need to do all that. I love the skirt and of course
- 12:36she looks gorgeous with the hair and makeup, but the dress didn't
- 12:38need to be sent on a jet. I liked the Valentino dress she
- 12:41changed into. She could have just worn that
- 12:42the whole time and still been stunning and perfect.
- 12:45And then finally someone wrote love lot and love Zendaya.
- 12:48But seriously this is ridiculous.
- 12:49A plane to get a dress. I hope they don't play the
- 12:51climate chance and sustainability advocate later.
- 12:54So celebrities have long been criticized for their private jet
- 12:57usage, most notably Taylor Swift.
- 13:00Much of the conversation now centers on the environmental
- 13:02damage that these jets cause. So according to a report from
- 13:06the International Council on Clean Transportation, a majority
- 13:09of private jet journeys are short haul flights.
- 13:11Yet in 2023, private jets collectively quote, emitted more
- 13:15green house gases than all flights departing from Heathrow
- 13:18Airport, the busiest airport in Europe.
- 13:21I've seen a lot of sentiment to where people are like I have to
- 13:25check my bias here because I would be so angry if Taylor
- 13:30Swift did this. So I need to like hold the same
- 13:32energy for Zendaya, which I think is interesting.
- 13:35I'm not trying to pit them against each other, but I think
- 13:37the self reflection that I have seen in the comment sections
- 13:41regarding this particular story has been honestly unique.
- 13:46That's not very common amongst like pop culture discourse and
- 13:51look like La Roche and Zendaya, like they're definitely not the
- 13:55only ones who are using private jets to get outfits here and
- 13:58there. And, you know, all of these
- 14:00kinds of things that feel really like wasteful.
- 14:03I mean, we saw on the Hills. OK, Like this is the first thing
- 14:06I thought of when I saw this story is on the hills.
- 14:08Lauren Conrad is flown from LA to New York to drop off a dress
- 14:14for, I guess New York Fashion Week.
- 14:15I can't really remember. And then she is put on a plane
- 14:18immediately right after she like hand delivers the dress to
- 14:21somebody, she's back on another plane.
- 14:23And I know that's not private jet usage, but that is one
- 14:26example from so many years ago. And that was a dress.
- 14:28I want to say it was for like an editor or something.
- 14:30I don't even think it was for like an A list celebrity.
- 14:32So I imagine when we're watching scenes like that in the hills,
- 14:35like decades ago, that A list celebrities are using their
- 14:39private jets for all this kind of stuff all the time.
- 14:42But we don't need to see that right now.
- 14:44Like we are not in 2010 flex culture anymore.
- 14:48People don't like to see that anymore.
- 14:50The general consensus right now is like, yes, we do anticipate
- 14:54that things like this are happening.
- 14:55We do imagine that they're happening.
- 14:56We kind of know they're happening, but please don't show
- 14:59us because we are all going through so much right now.
- 15:02Everything is so fucking expensive if the world is going
- 15:04to die before all of us can have children.
- 15:07Like, it is such a dystopian, like, weird place that we're at
- 15:11right now. Please don't show us.
- 15:13Like, we know it's happening. Please don't show us because
- 15:15there's no way to control it, right?
- 15:17It makes people feel more hopeless and more helpless to
- 15:20see that. OK.
- 15:21And the last story that I have you guys today is Paige Neiman.
- 15:25The infamous Ariana Grande impersonator has dropped a
- 15:27documentary. So Paige Neiman is pretty
- 15:30infamous online. She is an Ariana Grande look
- 15:34alike, but also kind of like an impersonator.
- 15:36She's been quote a quote impersonating Ariana for years.
- 15:39Adjusting her look to track Ariana's different eras.
- 15:42She has over 700,000 followers on Instagram and 10 million on
- 15:46TikTok and she is currently 22 years old.
- 15:48She's gone viral many times for many different things, but she
- 15:52actually started an only fans, which I think was her biggest
- 15:56like controversy. I would say because many felt
- 15:59like she was leaning on her likeness to Ariana Grande to
- 16:03generate this revenue and that it was maybe like unethical.
- 16:08Given she actually can make herself look so much like Ariana
- 16:11Grande. People were concerned that she
- 16:13would be like using that and like almost, I guess like in a
- 16:16way pretending to be Ariana Grande.
- 16:18People would be signing up thinking that they're getting
- 16:20like spicy content from Ariana Grande that it could lead to
- 16:24issues with like deep fakes and things like that for Ari.
- 16:26So anyways, that was like quite a big content controversy.
- 16:29So now she is releasing a documentary with Prime Video
- 16:31called Turning the Page and the series will seem to have about 6
- 16:34episodes. So many social media users seem
- 16:37shocked that she has done this docu series or like reality show
- 16:41at all. But one of the biggest
- 16:44bombshells so far came when she was asked whether she'd ever
- 16:47spoken to Ariana. And then she revealed that they
- 16:49have exchanged DMS and this is what the DM reads that Ari
- 16:54allegedly sent to Paige. I am flattered and I am sure
- 16:57you're very sweet but I just wanted you to know I looked back
- 17:01a little ways on your page and I think someone should tell you if
- 17:03they haven't today that you're very beautiful as yourself
- 17:07without all the makeup and trying to make your face look
- 17:09more similar to someone else's and what not.
- 17:12I had to say because it is the truth.
- 17:14Always do what makes you happy of course, but if I didn't say
- 17:16that to you I'd regret it. You're beautiful as you are,
- 17:18take care. I mean that is like literally so
- 17:20nice. So Ariana has spoken out against
- 17:23her like look alikes or impersonators before.
- 17:26Paige is not the only one. She has two other infamous look
- 17:29alikes, Jackie and Jess, and Jess actually pretended to be
- 17:34Ariana Grande at Disneyland back in the day.
- 17:37It would like take pictures with fans.
- 17:39Back in 2019, when Paige first started going really viral,
- 17:42Ariana responded to a tweet about her content, questioning
- 17:45why Paige leaned into doing Cat Valentine's voice while wearing
- 17:48looks that echoed Ariana's own. Thank you next era quote.
- 17:52I just wonder why the cat voice slash dialogue.
- 17:55I am sure she is the sweetest sweet sweetheart for real but
- 17:58it's definitely bizarre seeing people blend the two worlds
- 18:00LMAO. A year later, Ariana posted a
- 18:03video on her Instagram Story from actor Jordan Firstman in
- 18:06which he criticized people who make, like, memes
- 18:08recontextualizing an artist's work into something that
- 18:10degrades its value. She captioned the story.
- 18:13Oh my God, can this please also double as your impression of the
- 18:16ponytail TikTok girls who think doing the cat Valentine voice
- 18:19and that wearing winged eyeliner and a sweatshirt is doing a good
- 18:22impersonation of me because this is really how it feels.
- 18:25It would be so weird being a celebrity that has
- 18:29impersonators. I also think I, because
- 18:32sometimes I get the Taylor Swift impersonator is I think her
- 18:34name's Ashley on my free page. And sometimes I look at her
- 18:38content and I just feel a little bit sad.
- 18:40And I guess you could say the same for Paige because it's
- 18:42like, yeah, you have a lot of followers, but off the back of
- 18:46what? Pretending to be someone else
- 18:48looking like someone else like that is not career longevity.
- 18:53That is not true fandom. Those followers are there
- 18:57because of someone else, not because of you.
- 19:00And it kind of makes me feel a little bit like sad for them.
- 19:04But I also understand why celebrities do not like it
- 19:06because it does kind of border on like freaky.
- 19:09Anyways, I'm actually looking forward to watching Paige's
- 19:11documentary. This is right up my alley.
- 19:14Like it's so Internet culture coded, so I'm definitely going
- 19:16to be watching it. Anyways, guys, that's it for
- 19:19mini scroll today. Thank you so much for listening.
- 19:21I love you guys. Please remember to rate, review
