- Lucas: Hey, Luna, welcome back to Learn Spanish with Fexingo. Luna: Hey, Lucas! Ready for another episode. Lucas: We've done numbers 1 to 15, days, months... today let's tackle ordinal numbers. Luna: Ordinals? Like first, second, third? Lucas: Exactly. In Spanish: primero, segundo, tercero. Luna: Primero, segundo, tercero. Oh, I've heard those before! Lucas: Good ear. Let's say them together. Repeat after me: primero. Luna: Primero. Lucas: Segundo. Luna: Segundo. Lucas: Tercero. Luna: Tercero. Lucas: Cuarto. Luna: Cuarto. Lucas: Quinto. Luna: Quinto. Lucas: Sexto. Luna: Sexto. Lucas: Séptimo. Luna: Séptimo. Lucas: Octavo. Luna: Octavo. Lucas: Noveno. Luna: Noveno. Lucas: Décimo. Luna: Décimo. That was ten! From primero to décimo. Lucas: You got it. Now, these ordinals change a little when they come before a masculine noun. For example, 'the first day' is 'el primer día', not 'el primero día'. Luna: Oh, so primero becomes primer before a masculine noun? Lucas: Right. And tercero becomes tercer. 'El tercer libro' — the third book. Luna: El tercer libro. Got it. But for feminine nouns, it stays the same, right? Lucas: Exactly. 'La primera semana' — the first week. 'La tercera casa' — the third house. Luna: La primera semana, la tercera casa. Easy. Lucas: Let's practice with a little story. Imagine you're in a race. You come in first place. How would you say it? Luna: Umm... 'Soy el primero'? Lucas: Perfect. 'Soy el primero.' Now, if you're second? Luna: Soy el segundo. Lucas: Nice. And if you're third? Luna: Soy el tercero. Lucas: Fantastic. Now let's use them in a different context. Say we have three floors in a building. The first floor is 'el primer piso'. Luna: El primer piso. Lucas: The second floor? Luna: El segundo piso. Lucas: The third floor? Luna: El tercer piso. Lucas: See, you're using the shortened forms naturally. Luna: Yeah, it's clicking. So what about fourth floor? Lucas: El cuarto piso. No change for cuarto. Luna: El cuarto piso. And fifth? Lucas: El quinto piso. Luna: El quinto piso. Lucas: Great. Now, let's do a quick challenge. I'll say an ordinal in English, you say it in Spanish. Luna: Okay, hit me. Lucas: First. Luna: Primero. Lucas: Second. Luna: Segundo. Lucas: Third. Luna: Tercero. Lucas: Fourth. Luna: Cuarto. Lucas: Fifth. Luna: Quinto. Lucas: Sixth. Luna: Sexto. Lucas: Seventh. Luna: Séptimo. Lucas: Eighth. Luna: Octavo. Lucas: Ninth. Luna: Noveno. Lucas: Tenth. Luna: Décimo. Lucas: Flawless. You're ready to use these in real life. Luna: I feel like I could talk about floors or race positions now. Lucas: Exactly. And you can combine them with days of the week. 'El primer día de la semana es lunes.' Luna: El primer día de la semana es lunes. That's cool. Lucas: Now, as a quick recap: we learned primero, segundo, tercero, cuarto, quinto, sexto, séptimo, octavo, noveno, décimo. And remember that primero and tercero shorten to primer and tercer before masculine singular nouns. Luna: Got it. Primer and tercer for masculine, but not for feminine. Lucas: That's right. Keep practicing with Fexingo, and you'll master them in no time. Luna: Thanks, Lucas! This was a fun episode. Lucas: You're welcome, Luna. And to our listeners, keep up the great work. See you next time on Learn Spanish with Fexingo. Luna: Hasta luego!
