- 0:37Welcome back. How is it going everybody?
- 0:40I yeah, I love doing videos on different types of apps because
- 0:43I love apps and technology. But if you guys are new to this
- 0:45channel, my name is Dan and this is the apps.
- 0:47We will, but we think differently daily.
- 0:49What's up different? Think of FAM.
- 0:51If you haven't already, go and download my free PDF.
- 0:54Autism Life Hacks book will be on the end screen of this video.
- 0:58Or in a link in the description down below and if you're
- 0:59watching on Instagram, it will be in the link in my bio.
- 1:02Don't forget to go and get it. OK.
- 1:03So basically I've done loads of videos on different types of
- 1:06apps for, I don't know, I've done loads right.
- 1:08But in terms of dyslexia, I haven't really done that many.
- 1:13So I've got my iPhone right here right now, which is the new
- 1:16iPhone that just came out, actually.
- 1:18So yeah, this is, this is cool. I'm really, I'm really excited.
- 1:20I'm using this new iPhone. It's kind of cool.
- 1:22It's groovy and the cameras are great, But that's beside the
- 1:24point. I actually have a video all
- 1:26about how this iPhone, the latest iPhone, is very good for
- 1:29people on the autism spectrum and how this technology can
- 1:31improve the lives of people on spectrum.
- 1:32So if you're interested in watching that, check out a link
- 1:34in the description. It'll be that for you right
- 1:37then. So I wanted to talk about some
- 1:40of the tools which I used when I was doing my university degree
- 1:44and helping with my dyslexia, because let's face it, having
- 1:46dyslexia and going to university or during school is really
- 1:50difficult, right? And so I've made a list of stuff
- 1:53that I use and stuff that I've just come across that are
- 1:55actually really, really good. So without further ado, let's
- 1:58get into it. OK.
- 1:59So the first thing I'm going to talk about here right now is
- 2:02text dictation software. Now, if you're anything like me,
- 2:05then you're going to have problems in trying to, you know,
- 2:08write down things and you know you need help with speech and
- 2:12all that kind of stuff. So what I do is I get my iPhone
- 2:15and I open up notes and then I use the microphone and the
- 2:19little button at the bottom and I can just talk to my phone and
- 2:23it'll actually dictate what I'm talking and write it down in a
- 2:25note format. And also not only that, if we
- 2:30actually go to highlight a word and then you can actually scroll
- 2:34and see speak. Just talk to my phone and
- 2:37actually dictate what I'm talking and write it down in a
- 2:41note for me. The cool thing about this is
- 2:43that you can actually use this when you're in lectures to hold
- 2:46it up to the the air and just hear what your lectures are
- 2:48saying and it's kind of like they're making notes to you,
- 2:49which is pretty good hack. And I'm going to probably talk
- 2:51about that in a different video, but that is typically the one of
- 2:55the most used functions on my phone.
- 2:57I actually use it for pretty much everything because the app
- 3:00is native to the iPhone and the iPad.
- 3:02And so if you have these devices, I'm sure it works on
- 3:04Android as well. You're able to just speak freely
- 3:06and then you're able to actually get a really good kind of rock
- 3:10solid digital note of what you want to say.
- 3:12I use it for everything, right? Text messages, emails to even
- 3:14taking notes like you just saw. OK, so #2 is an app I came
- 3:18across called Crazy Cursive. Now, cursive writing is quite
- 3:21difficult because it's kind of like script writing, right?
- 3:24And we all know kind of what cursive writing is.
- 3:25So check out this little clip of me now.
- 3:27So this is me actually going through Crazy Cursive, which is
- 3:31the the app we're using right now to kind of just show you
- 3:36guys how how it works. So yeah, you basically make an
- 3:39account on on this actual, on this app.
- 3:41And then you go through and you can just take a word or letter.
- 3:45And for instance, we're just doing a letter you kind of like
- 3:47it shows you what to do and you just drag your pencil down.
- 3:50And so it shows you how to actually draw the, the cursive
- 3:53version of the letter you're using, which is pretty good.
- 3:56And it also says it out loud for you, so you know which which
- 3:59word it is. But The thing is, it gets you
- 4:01used to that technique. I'm sure this is going to be
- 4:03really, really good on an iPad with the Apple Pencil where
- 4:05you're like, you know, using that kind of cursive or any kind
- 4:08of, you know, good stylus on a tablet will give you that real
- 4:12life feel like you're writing on paper, which I found really,
- 4:15really good. This app is called Crazy Cursive
- 4:17and it's this is Crazy cursive light.
- 4:19There is a paid version, I believe, but I'll leave all the
- 4:22links for it in the description below so that you guys can get
- 4:25access to all of these apps, you know that I'm talking about in
- 4:27this video, in case you think, oh, that's a good one.
- 4:30Done. Check it out.
- 4:30OK, so the next one I'm going to talk about is Writing Wizard.
- 4:34Now handwriting is really, my handwriting is terrible, right?
- 4:36It's absolutely terrible. And I never had any kind of luck
- 4:39doing it. It was always really rubbish,
- 4:42really. And you know, I tried and tried
- 4:44and never really worked. But this actual app, as you can
- 4:47see in this video, actually shows you the how to draw the
- 4:52letter and then also tells you the letter once you're
- 4:54completely drawing it. It kind of says what whatever it
- 4:57is, this one you know, if it's A or B or whatever, it will tell
- 4:59you the actual letter. And then you can like play a
- 5:01game by like moving it around and doing cool crazy stuff.
- 5:05Which is pretty amazing because it kind of gamifies the whole
- 5:08experience, but it helps you learn the actual, the actual
- 5:12letter and the words whilst actually drawing and writing
- 5:15them out. So you get like more of a
- 5:17defined version of it because it had these lines of like
- 5:20separation of where you actually draw the word, which I found
- 5:22really, really helpful, Okay. So the next one I'm going to
- 5:24talk about is Simplex Lite. There is a paid version of
- 5:28Simplex I think, but I'm actually just using the Lite
- 5:30version, which is just pretty much the best one to do because
- 5:34it's free at the end of the day. So basically you pick a, you
- 5:39pick this, basically pick a word or letter or what you want to do
- 5:43and this one is word list one. So this is like a list of words
- 5:47and it basically says a phrase of what you should use the the
- 5:51word for and it's a 3 letter word and it says like you know
- 5:55whatever, like you know I don't know like find my way so you
- 5:59have to do like WAY and then it just basically gives you a a.
- 6:04Score and it tells you if you're doing it perfect or doing it
- 6:06bad. But it kind of helps preempt
- 6:08you. One thing I do like about this
- 6:09app is that it shows you where all the vowels are, which is
- 6:12really, really helpful. But also it tells you the the
- 6:14word in a sentence. It doesn't just tell you a
- 6:17random word. So it talks really good.
- 6:21It's really good at helping you understand how to talk properly
- 6:24and using the right words in the right sentences, which I found
- 6:26absolutely fantastic. Right.
- 6:28The last one I'm going to talk about #5 here is 1 called Me
- 6:31Books. Now Me Books is a reading app.
- 6:33You basically create an account on this app and as you log in
- 6:35there, you can see there's loads of different types of books in
- 6:37there. And what happens is this app
- 6:39actually helps you with the preset books that are pretty
- 6:42much, you know, a lot of books for kids.
- 6:43And this is mainly an app for kids who are struggling on the
- 6:47on the reading skills or writing skills with dyslexia.
- 6:50And basically what it does is the app helps you read the the
- 6:54books. It kind of reads with you and
- 6:55reads for you and helps you breakdown the words and the
- 6:58sentences, which is really, really good.
- 6:59And it kind of highlights different words as well.
- 7:01And one of the things I found really interesting about this is
- 7:04that I had nothing this interactive when I was trying to
- 7:06learn to read and it's just a big stretch and a big struggle
- 7:09when I was growing up. So now having an app like this
- 7:11is amazing. Now there is a free version and
- 7:13a paid version. I highly recommend checking out
- 7:14the free versions. I've linked all of the free
- 7:16versions down below. Some of them you have to create
- 7:18an account with, some of them you don't, But these are the
- 7:20best ones that I found for dyslexia.
- 7:22Now if you think that these are really awesome, please share
- 7:25this video on Facebook and Twitter if you have anything to
- 7:27add. Any other apps that you could
- 7:28suggest putting a comment down below Because I read every
- 7:30single one. Give this video thumbs up if you
- 7:32found value. I'll see you in the next one
- 7:33guys. Peace.
