- 1:27Speaker 3: Rafael Esparza, who you can find at VSL.Sports. Esparza, happy
- 1:31Speaker 3: football eve. Now, I know we played week zero, but
- 1:34Speaker 3: this is really like Christmas Eve.
- 1:37Speaker 4: It is. I'm really excited because some really, really good matchups,
- 1:40Speaker 4: including starting tomorrow. And I want to bash when your
- 1:43Speaker 4: plays right now, if you want to put your plays
- 1:46Speaker 4: on the board, you have Colorado Georgia tech game going
- 1:50Speaker 4: over 50 and a half. I was just writing these
- 1:52Speaker 4: notes down for another show. I got to do tomorrow morning.
- 1:54Speaker 4: 75% of the money coming in on that game is
- 1:58Speaker 4: not under at 50 and a half. And you figure
- 2:01Speaker 4: if you're Georgia tech, you want to kind of run
- 2:03Speaker 4: the ball and See what Colorado's defense is going to
- 2:06Speaker 4: look like. Even though I think their defense is going
- 2:07Speaker 4: to be much improved than last year, Colorado. I'm really excited.
- 2:11Speaker 4: And I do believe this number comes down to six.
- 2:14Speaker 4: There's a bunch of six and a half out there.
- 2:16Speaker 4: This one was seven, seven and a half when numbers
- 2:18Speaker 4: first came over. And it's just been all Buffs money
- 2:22Speaker 4: as of right now. So it wouldn't shock me if
- 2:24Speaker 4: it goes to six. Now, if it keeps on dropping,
- 2:26Speaker 4: I might have to take a shot at the Yellow
- 2:28Speaker 4: Jackets on that one.
- 2:30Speaker 3: Hey, let me ask you this as far as Deion Sanders.
- 2:33Speaker 3: How big a year is this for him? I think
- 2:36Speaker 3: we might have talked about this. I saw a stat
- 2:38Speaker 3: the other day that since he started coaching at Colorado,
- 2:41Speaker 3: 65% of the viewing public that was in on him,
- 2:45Speaker 3: they're out on him.
- 2:46Speaker 2: I mean, this is a big night for him tomorrow night.
- 2:49Speaker 4: It is a big night, but at the same time,
- 2:51Speaker 4: I think I said this on your show a couple
- 2:52Speaker 4: weeks ago. If he doesn't have a good showing and
- 2:55Speaker 4: Novella and Florida State doesn't have a good showing, you
- 2:58Speaker 4: know who's going to come down to Florida State? Maybe
- 3:01Speaker 4: Deion Sanders. But I like what he did this year
- 3:05Speaker 4: on a transfer portal at NIL. He didn't go for names.
- 3:09Speaker 4: He went for, okay, who's going to play my system?
- 3:11Speaker 4: Bring in a new defensive coordinator. I think the defense
- 3:14Speaker 4: is going to be the reason why This Buffs team
- 3:16Speaker 4: hangs around. Their total season wins four and a half.
- 3:19Speaker 4: I'm not saying they're going to win six, seven games,
- 3:22Speaker 4: go to a bowl game or something like that. But
- 3:23Speaker 4: I think they're going to be much improved. And if
- 3:25Speaker 4: they can be just much improved, then I think the
- 3:28Speaker 4: fan base will continue to support him and stay there.
- 3:31Speaker 4: But if he doesn't, let's say if he goes under
- 3:33Speaker 4: that four and a half, you might be seeing him
- 3:35Speaker 4: doing a tomahawk shot.
- 3:37Speaker 2: No, there is no doubt about it. All right.
- 3:38Speaker 3: What other games tomorrow night are you interested in? I mean, obviously,
- 3:43Speaker 3: we've got some snoozers on all the days. You know,
- 3:46Speaker 3: Sunday's great. Monday's great. Saturday, we've got some really good intrigue. Friday,
- 3:49Speaker 3: there's a couple I want to ask you about. But
- 3:50Speaker 3: what other games tomorrow night are you looking at?
- 3:53Speaker 4: I mean, maybe UAB, Illinois. That could be very intriguing
- 3:57Speaker 4: if UAB can establish the run and keep Illinois' offense
- 4:00Speaker 4: off the field. I mean, this number's pretty stagnant. Opened
- 4:03Speaker 4: up at 27.5. Continues to be 27.5. There's no really
- 4:07Speaker 4: line movement on it at all. So I was hoping
- 4:10Speaker 4: to maybe get a little more points on the Dragons
- 4:13Speaker 4: or the Blazers of UAB. So... I want to keep
- 4:16Speaker 4: an eye out for that one, but let's face it.
- 4:17Speaker 4: I think Friday's games are much, it's just pretty much
- 4:21Speaker 4: Georgia tech. And I think Colorado is what everybody wants
- 4:24Speaker 4: to watch. Everything else is what 25 points or higher.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 4:28Speaker 3: Let's move to Friday. We see some weird things. We've
- 4:31Speaker 3: talked about this on Friday. Can't really quantify it. It's
- 4:34Speaker 3: one of those, you know, things out in the ether,
- 4:36Speaker 3: so to speak, Miami has to travel to Stanford and
- 4:39Speaker 3: Mario crystal ball has been prone to, you know, I
- 4:42Speaker 3: call it crystal ball and, you know, kind of crystal
- 4:44Speaker 3: ball this thing and just, mess it up.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Any chance that he, you know, hits under the number,
- 4:50Speaker 2: maybe really whiffs this game. Maybe Stanford upsets him on Friday.
- 4:53Speaker 4: Well, let's see. One team has played already and the
- 4:56Speaker 4: other team hasn't played already. And I like that trend.
- 4:59Speaker 4: I mean, even though it's only hit like 56% of
- 5:02Speaker 4: the time, teams who have played, they're going into their
- 5:05Speaker 4: second game against teams who are playing their first game.
- 5:07Speaker 4: You usually bet the team have already had a game
- 5:10Speaker 4: under their belt. Like I said, it's only hit 56%
- 5:13Speaker 4: of the time. So it's not a big moneymaker, but
- 5:16Speaker 4: that's a huge difference. I'm not saying Stanford's going to
- 5:18Speaker 4: win the game, but I think they can stay in
- 5:20Speaker 4: front and hang around this game because Game one is
- 5:24Speaker 4: just like NFL. Week one is preseason week four. So
- 5:27Speaker 4: anything can happen in college football week one. But this
- 5:30Speaker 4: is going to be a very intriguing game. Stanford got
- 5:33Speaker 4: lucky last week. If you're Hawaii better from last week,
- 5:37Speaker 4: you're still drinking right now and how they lost the
- 5:40Speaker 4: game and how they didn't cover that game.
- 5:43Speaker 3: Let's look at a couple more. I was scrolling through
- 5:45Speaker 3: here looking. There's a line I don't have.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Well, let me ask you this.
- 5:50Speaker 3: Toledo and Michigan State. Michigan State is a 10-point favorite.
- 5:54Speaker 3: That total sits somewhere around 46-and-a-half. I think from my play,
- 5:58Speaker 3: let me look over here and pull this up real quick.
- 6:00Speaker 3: I'll put this on the board. Michigan State, Toledo, under 46-and-a-half.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Your thoughts on that? And then, of course, look, Toledo
- 6:09Speaker 3: very well could hang.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Around in that game.
- 6:11Speaker 4: Toledo, what does Toledo like to do year in and
- 6:14Speaker 4: year out? Run the ball. That's what they're known for.
- 6:17Speaker 4: They always have big offensive linemen. I don't know where
- 6:20Speaker 4: they find them in Toledo, but they always have a
- 6:23Speaker 4: really good offensive lineman. That's why they get able to
- 6:25Speaker 4: run the ball. And that's why this total opened up
- 6:27Speaker 4: at 49, and now it's 46 and a half. There's
- 6:31Speaker 4: a couple 47s. Make sure you shop around. So, yeah,
- 6:34Speaker 4: I totally understand if I was playing this game. That's
- 6:37Speaker 4: what I would look at. Michigan State, you know, they're
- 6:39Speaker 4: going to bring their defense and Toledo, you know, they're
- 6:41Speaker 4: going to run the ball.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Fresno State, USC.
- 6:44Speaker 3: I don't think Fresno State is in any position to,
- 6:47Speaker 3: to beat USC. That totals at 51 and a half.
- 6:50Speaker 3: That lines at 21 and a half. I think I
- 6:53Speaker 3: did put this on the board. I think I went
- 6:55Speaker 3: ahead and said the over just because, or did I
- 6:57Speaker 3: put this one?
- 6:58Speaker 2: Maybe I left this one off.
- 6:59Speaker 4: No, you got it. You got it out there. There
- 7:01Speaker 4: it is.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Over the 51 and a half, just because I think
- 7:04Speaker 3: USC is going to score, score some points.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Lincoln Riley, He's got an axe to grind.
- 7:08Speaker 3: He knows that his scalp is kind of out there.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Now he's facing backlash because of the fan support last
- 7:14Speaker 3: week versus San Jose State.
- 7:16Speaker 2: And Fresno's liable to throw a couple touchdowns on the board.
- 7:18Speaker 4: Yeah, you called it because Luke Weaver, the quarterback for
- 7:21Speaker 4: San Jose State, he looked like a freshman quarterback in
- 7:24Speaker 4: high school, first two quarters. In the second half, he
- 7:26Speaker 4: looked like the Heisman Trophy winner. So if he was
- 7:29Speaker 4: able to put up 21 points unanswered all in the
- 7:32Speaker 4: second half against a USC defense, then I think Fresno
- 7:36Speaker 4: could probably put up 10, maybe 14 points on the board.
- 7:38Speaker 4: And you called it. If you want to get fans
- 7:40Speaker 4: in the stands, you run up the score. You put
- 7:43Speaker 4: up a 60 against a Fresno State team. I know
- 7:45Speaker 4: Fresno State is not a big 10 team or an
- 7:50Speaker 4: elite mountain West team, but there are still D one team.
- 7:52Speaker 4: There's still, they're not an FCS school. So if you
- 7:56Speaker 4: can put up a lopsided score, I think that we'll
- 7:58Speaker 4: get the fan base in here. And I do, I
- 8:00Speaker 4: do like to over in this one. I'm hoping it
- 8:01Speaker 4: continues to drop because it has dropped a little bit.
- 8:05Speaker 3: Any words of advice for the betting public out there
- 8:07Speaker 3: experienced or not, maybe they're, you know, beginners, novice, whatever
- 8:10Speaker 3: you want to call it.
- 8:12Speaker 2: A lot of big lines this week. A lot of.
- 8:14Speaker 3: Unknowns because of the transfer portal. Maybe lean more towards
- 8:18Speaker 3: the totals.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Stay away from some of these. I mean, you look
- 8:21Speaker 2: at some of these.
- 8:22Speaker 3: I would never play this, but Army is favored by 37.5
- 8:24Speaker 3: over Bryant. I know you could break it down, but
- 8:27Speaker 3: I don't expect you to do that. Indiana, 40.5 over
- 8:30Speaker 3: North Texas.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Man, there's some big lines out there.
- 8:33Speaker 4: Yeah, the Indiana game is very intriguing because they're bringing
- 8:36Speaker 4: in a new quarterback. Everyone's shining quarterback that they wanted
- 8:39Speaker 4: to come to their school, but he chose. I can't
- 8:41Speaker 4: believe I'm going to say this. He chose Indiana instead
- 8:44Speaker 4: of some of these bigger schools. So Indiana is going
- 8:47Speaker 4: to be very interesting. I'm going to be watching that
- 8:48Speaker 4: just because they have a lot of new faces. They
- 8:51Speaker 4: have a lot of faces that went to the NFL
- 8:53Speaker 4: and now they're being replaced by either trans reporter people
- 8:56Speaker 4: or money that they had to pay to bring someone
- 8:58Speaker 4: to replace them. So I'm really intrigued in this Indiana.
- 9:00Speaker 4: But what I've been telling people on week one, what
- 9:03Speaker 4: is week one in? It's a holiday weekend. So it's
- 9:06Speaker 4: a holiday weekend. You might be drinking a little bit more.
- 9:09Speaker 4: So be very cautious with your bets on week one
- 9:11Speaker 4: because a lot of big spreads out there. So be
- 9:14Speaker 4: very cautious. Treat this like Christmas. Like, you know, a
- 9:16Speaker 4: preseason game in NFL or something like this where you
- 9:19Speaker 4: don't want to dump all your money on week one, September,
- 9:22Speaker 4: was it September 5th, over the weekend and stuff like that.
- 9:24Speaker 4: So you'd be very cautious with this. And I'll give
- 9:27Speaker 4: you a stat right here. Kirby Smart, Georgia, who I
- 9:30Speaker 4: have playing Oregon National Championship, has a huge favorite 30.5
- 9:34Speaker 4: points or more. He's 0-15 against the spread. Wow.
- 9:40Speaker 2: Really?
- 9:40Speaker 4: 0-15.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Now, correct me if I'm wrong. Didn't Nick Saban have
- 9:43Speaker 2: a similar number against the spread?
- 9:45Speaker 4: Yep.
- 9:46Speaker 3: And maybe it's the style of play. Those coaches typically,
- 9:49Speaker 3: and I say those, Smart, Saban, they were never just
- 9:53Speaker 3: run-you-out-of-the-building type of coaches, right? I mean, if they're playing
- 9:56Speaker 3: an inferior opponent, they're going to get up, take the
- 9:58Speaker 3: starters out, and it's kind of just crew.
- 10:00Speaker 4: Yeah, I agree on that one. But there's one thing
- 10:02Speaker 4: I want to mention before I head off. It's stuff
- 10:05Speaker 4: like Diggs. I know you have great guests. We need
- 10:08Speaker 4: to talk to the elephant in the room of college football.
- 10:10Speaker 2: What you got?
- 10:11Speaker 4: We need to talk about the game that everyone's going
- 10:13Speaker 4: to be watching on Saturday night. And that's LSU playing
- 10:17Speaker 4: Saturday night against Clemson. Now, this is totally reminding me
- 10:22Speaker 4: of when Tom Brady won Super Bowls for New England.
- 10:24Speaker 4: And I was working in sportsbooks. And we would get
- 10:27Speaker 4: crushed every Sunday because everyone would be betting Tom Brady
- 10:31Speaker 4: and he over. Patriots and over. Patriots over. And you
- 10:33Speaker 4: know why they were betting it? It's not because they
- 10:36Speaker 4: were the best team. It's because hatred money was coming
- 10:39Speaker 4: in on New England. And it was dropping New England's
- 10:42Speaker 4: line down. And so now you're getting a better line.
- 10:44Speaker 4: We're going to see that this year for LSU. There's
- 10:47Speaker 4: so much hatred all around college football because of what
- 10:50Speaker 4: they're trying to do. Are they going to do? I'm
- 10:53Speaker 4: hearing a hearing is probably going to come out tomorrow.
- 10:55Speaker 4: But if that happens and they say they didn't get
- 10:58Speaker 4: kicked out of the SEC, which I don't think they
- 11:00Speaker 4: will be, there's going to be so much hatred money
- 11:03Speaker 4: coming in on the Bayou Bengals. If you like LSU,
- 11:07Speaker 4: this might be the perfect year to bet them because
- 11:09Speaker 4: you're going to get so much different line movement because
- 11:13Speaker 4: of hatred money coming in than money that's moving a
- 11:15Speaker 4: number because they think they have a trend that's maybe
- 11:17Speaker 4: going to cash.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Who do you like in the game? And, yeah, I
- 11:20Speaker 2: want to go through.
- 11:21Speaker 3: We've got about 10 minutes left because if you've got
- 11:23Speaker 3: 10 minutes to spare until we get.
- 11:24Speaker 4: Rob in here. I've been trying to tell that to people.
- 11:28Speaker 4: Be very cautious with this game now because every time
- 11:31Speaker 4: I read something about LSU and Kiffin, it just reminds
- 11:34Speaker 4: me back in the day of when Patriots were just
- 11:36Speaker 4: winning Super Bowls or winning games. It's the hatred money.
- 11:38Speaker 4: It's the hatred money effect. And if you go to
- 11:40Speaker 4: Vegas and talk to an odds maker, ask them what
- 11:43Speaker 4: hatred money. And they're going to say, oh, Tom Brady
- 11:45Speaker 4: and the Patriots.
- 11:47Speaker 2: That's fascinating. So I like Clemson. Give me Clemson plus 10.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Am I crazy? I mean, look, Davo's coming in. He
- 11:54Speaker 2: has nothing to lose. He's going to rally the troops
- 11:57Speaker 2: for whatever that's worth, you know, until kickoff. Hey, it's
- 11:59Speaker 2: us against the world. Can they take this game into
- 12:02Speaker 2: the fourth quarter?
- 12:03Speaker 4: It depends if these kids, and I'm still going to
- 12:05Speaker 4: call them kids, even though they're gazillionaires and have more
- 12:08Speaker 4: money than I am. I'm still going to call them kids.
- 12:11Speaker 4: How are they handling all this press? And how are
- 12:14Speaker 4: they handling, you know, everyone's talking about it. Everyone's asking
- 12:18Speaker 4: them when they're supposed to go to class or when
- 12:21Speaker 4: they're out and about. People are asking how they're going
- 12:23Speaker 4: to handle the heat. Not only the heat in the stadium,
- 12:27Speaker 4: because it's supposed to be really humid still in Baton Rouge,
- 12:30Speaker 4: but how are they going to handle all this heat? So, yeah,
- 12:31Speaker 4: I can see the 10F. For me, I ain't touching
- 12:35Speaker 4: this game. There's no way. I am touching this game.
- 12:38Speaker 4: Now am I going to be rooting for Clemson? I
- 12:40Speaker 4: have a Clemson hat that Clemson sent me. I'm going
- 12:42Speaker 4: to be wearing it because I would love to see
- 12:46Speaker 4: LSU go down because what's going to happen? Let's say
- 12:48Speaker 4: Clemson goes to Baton Rouge first game and they beat LSU.
- 12:52Speaker 4: What's going to happen then? I think SEC would keep
- 12:55Speaker 4: them just for they can laugh at them.
- 12:58Speaker 2: There is no doubt, and I can tell you this.
- 12:59Speaker 3: You know how numbers, they'll show, hey, games peaked at this,
- 13:02Speaker 3: this level, second quarter, third quarter. If Clemson goes in
- 13:06Speaker 3: the fourth quarter and they're within, say, 10 points or
- 13:08Speaker 3: a touchdown, that television number is going to absolutely go
- 13:11Speaker 3: through the roof.
- 13:12Speaker 4: I agree. I think it's going to be one of
- 13:14Speaker 4: the biggest viewed games of all Labor Day weekend of
- 13:17Speaker 4: college football just because you have the hatred of what's
- 13:20Speaker 4: going on. You have Kiffin. You have the duel between
- 13:24Speaker 4: Stadavo and Kiffin. They never liked each other. So I
- 13:26Speaker 4: don't know why people are making a big deal. It's
- 13:28Speaker 4: not like this hatred just started. They never liked each other.
- 13:32Speaker 2: Hey, let's move on to, uh, Auburn versus Baylor, DJ Lagway,
- 13:37Speaker 2: Dave Aranda.
- 13:38Speaker 3: They've hitched the wagon together. You know, they both need
- 13:41Speaker 3: a big year. Aranda needs him to have a big
- 13:43Speaker 3: year to survive. Lagway obviously wants to show that he
- 13:45Speaker 3: is what everybody thought he was two years ago. They
- 13:48Speaker 3: go down to the Plains or go over to Atlanta
- 13:50Speaker 3: to play Auburn. Auburn forfeited their home game. Not a
- 13:53Speaker 3: lot of people happy with John Cohen, the athletics director
- 13:55Speaker 3: about that. Just giving up all that money that you
- 13:57Speaker 3: generate 30 million, 20 million, whatever it is.
- 13:59Speaker 2: On a, on a sec weekend. Um, Byron Brown, new quarterback,
- 14:03Speaker 2: new coach, and Alex Golas. Who do you like in
- 14:05Speaker 2: this one?
- 14:06Speaker 4: I'm going to lean towards Auburn in this one. I
- 14:09Speaker 4: think Baylor's going to take a small step backwards from
- 14:12Speaker 4: last year. So I think Auburn comes off, and they
- 14:14Speaker 4: need this win. I mean, you said it. I think
- 14:18Speaker 4: W's are going to forget about money. And if you
- 14:20Speaker 4: can win and beat a Big 12 team like Baylor
- 14:22Speaker 4: on week one, people are going to forget about you
- 14:24Speaker 4: forfeiting that home game. I like Auburn in this game.
- 14:28Speaker 2: Notre Dame takes on Wisconsin in Green Bay.
- 14:30Speaker 3: I saw the day where a lot of the talking
- 14:33Speaker 3: heads for the four-letter at ESPN, a lot of them
- 14:36Speaker 3: picked Notre Dame to win the national title.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Their schedule is favorable. We've talked about that.
- 14:41Speaker 3: Week one, do they look like a national championship contender
- 14:43Speaker 3: and run Wisconsin out of the building, or do the
- 14:45Speaker 3: Badgers hang around?
- 14:47Speaker 4: Hoping they run out Wisconsin because I played Finkel to
- 14:50Speaker 4: be the first head coach fired, so that would be
- 14:52Speaker 4: fantastic for me in this one. I think... I think
- 14:57Speaker 4: Wisconsin can hang around the number. I don't think they're
- 15:00Speaker 4: going to keep this close. But if you're in Notre Dame,
- 15:01Speaker 4: you're listening to everybody. You're listening to the four-letter word saying, okay,
- 15:05Speaker 4: we're going to win the national championship. But you're also
- 15:08Speaker 4: hearing everyone say your schedule is cupcakes. So if you
- 15:11Speaker 4: have a cupcake schedule, then you better win by 25-plus
- 15:14Speaker 4: or more all those cupcake games. And I think they
- 15:19Speaker 4: should do against Wisconsin, which is going to be a struggling,
- 15:22Speaker 4: struggling team all season.
- 15:24Speaker 3: Hey, what are you looking to see out of Alabama
- 15:25Speaker 3: versus East Carolina? I know they're a pretty big favorite, 21-and-a-half.
- 15:29Speaker 3: Keylon Russell, the new quarterback. What do you look for
- 15:32Speaker 3: in a game like this?
- 15:33Speaker 4: Looking for their offensive line because their offensive line stunk
- 15:36Speaker 4: last year. If they can run the ball, if they
- 15:38Speaker 4: can push people around like we normally see Alabama do,
- 15:43Speaker 4: then I think Alabama would be in a perfect place.
- 15:45Speaker 4: I think Alabama could win some games that we didn't
- 15:47Speaker 4: think they could win, and they might be in that
- 15:49Speaker 4: talk with Georgia. If they don't, if they can't win–
- 15:53Speaker 4: in the trenches, then I think it's going to be
- 15:54Speaker 4: a very long season for Alabama. I think they're going
- 15:57Speaker 4: to be okay this year. I like the new quarterback,
- 16:01Speaker 4: and I like what the run game should do. Now,
- 16:03Speaker 4: should do is all based on that offensive line.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Ole Miss, Louisville. I'm excited about this. I know most
- 16:10Speaker 2: of the state of Mississippi is excited about this.
- 16:11Speaker 4: I was going to say, not most of you. I
- 16:13Speaker 4: was going to correct you on that one.
- 16:15Speaker 3: Well, here's the deal. In this state, if you're an
- 16:17Speaker 3: Ole Miss fan, you're fired up. If you're a Mississippi
- 16:18Speaker 3: State fan, you're pulling for Louisville in the game. Seven,
- 16:21Speaker 3: seven and a half, depending on where you shop it around.
- 16:22Speaker 3: Of course, you can play it at my book. You
- 16:23Speaker 3: use the promo code patio and get you a sign-up
- 16:26Speaker 3: bonus if you've never played. But when you look at
- 16:28Speaker 3: this game, Louisville won nine games last year. They lost
- 16:31Speaker 3: three by three points or less. That's a good football team.
- 16:34Speaker 3: Jeff Brom's a good football coach. They're breaking into the quarterback.
- 16:38Speaker 3: Can Louisville scare the daylights out of Ole Miss?
- 16:41Speaker 4: I hate breaking in a new quarterback scenario in this
- 16:44Speaker 4: game because I think Louisville's a sleeper to win. Their conference.
- 16:48Speaker 4: I think they have a lot of good guys in there.
- 16:50Speaker 4: Their defense flies around. They don't miss tackles like we
- 16:54Speaker 4: see a lot of schools do in week ones. I
- 16:55Speaker 4: don't think we're going to see this from Louisville. It's
- 16:58Speaker 4: going to be a close game. I think in the
- 17:00Speaker 4: second half is when Mississippi, in their experience, maybe flexes
- 17:04Speaker 4: their muscles. I could see them covering. I'm hoping it
- 17:07Speaker 4: drops down to six. I don't like the six and
- 17:09Speaker 4: a half.
- 17:10Speaker 3: And, of course, SMU taking on Florida State. I like
- 17:14Speaker 3: Kevin Jennings, the quarterback at SMU. He took them to
- 17:17Speaker 3: the college football playoff two years ago. Didn't play well
- 17:19Speaker 3: at Happy Valley. Penn State kind of ran them out
- 17:21Speaker 3: of that building. He comes back after a year where
- 17:23Speaker 3: he was injured. They've got a really good team at SMU.
- 17:27Speaker 3: Florida State, Mike Norvell, you talked about Fickle being on
- 17:30Speaker 3: the hot seat.
- 17:30Speaker 2: I mean, if Norvell loses this one this weekend, oh, goodness. Boy,
- 17:34Speaker 2: that thing's really going to get hot down there.
- 17:37Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't think so. But I thought they were
- 17:39Speaker 4: really going to flex their muscles last week and just
- 17:42Speaker 4: blow them out and show, hey, you know what? We're
- 17:45Speaker 4: going to be around. But they struggled in the second half.
- 17:47Speaker 4: They had some bad turnovers, gave up a lot of
- 17:50Speaker 4: big yardage on big plays. And you just said it.
- 17:52Speaker 4: SMU is going to experience quarterback that's played against some
- 17:55Speaker 4: big schools. So I can see SMU. I don't want
- 17:59Speaker 4: to say they're going to win this game, but I
- 18:01Speaker 4: think the Seminoles are going to be very, very nervous
- 18:04Speaker 4: in the second half.
- 18:05Speaker 3: Let me grab a couple more here for you. Cal
- 18:08Speaker 3: versus UCLA. I took the under 53 and a half.
- 18:11Speaker 3: You know, you look at some of the pundits out there.
- 18:14Speaker 3: A lot of people are looking at Cal saying, hey,
- 18:15Speaker 3: this is a team. They got a really good quarterback.
- 18:17Speaker 3: They could really be a salty team in the ACC.
- 18:21Speaker 3: UCLA with Nico Amaliava trying to, you know, really get
- 18:25Speaker 3: back into playing football, so to speak. This could be a,
- 18:28Speaker 3: reminds me of a, it is an old Pac-12 showdown here.
- 18:32Speaker 4: I couldn't agree more. This is why am I watching
- 18:34Speaker 4: Boise State in the Pac-12 when I should be watching
- 18:37Speaker 4: Cal and UCLA in a Pac-12 Saturday? But yeah, this
- 18:41Speaker 4: is going to be a fantastic matchup. And I'm really
- 18:43Speaker 4: high on the Cal Bears this year. I think they're
- 18:45Speaker 4: going to be fun to watch UCLA. There's just too
- 18:48Speaker 4: many question marks for UCLA. I'm almost to the point
- 18:51Speaker 4: where I'm going to put them on my pedestal of
- 18:53Speaker 4: Nebraska football, Wisconsin football. I might have to put up
- 18:56Speaker 4: UCLA on that pedestal because I'm tired of listening to
- 18:58Speaker 4: this might be their year.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Speaking of Boise, they're versus Oregon. I took the under 51.5.
- 19:03Speaker 3: You would know this probably statistically more than me, but
- 19:06Speaker 3: it seems like when these two tie it on, it's
- 19:08Speaker 3: a pretty dang close game.
- 19:09Speaker 2: It was a year or two ago. Oregon had to
- 19:11Speaker 2: go down to the wire to win with a field goal.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Can Boise push Oregon a little bit?
- 19:16Speaker 4: I think they can, but, man, I'm excited to watch.
- 19:20Speaker 4: I can't believe I'm going to say this because I
- 19:21Speaker 4: love watching Oregon football because I think their speed on
- 19:24Speaker 4: offense is always fun to watch. But I'm excited to
- 19:26Speaker 4: watch their speed on defense. I'm so excited to watch.
- 19:29Speaker 4: The Ducks play defense. And I wouldn't be shocked if
- 19:33Speaker 4: Oregon goes up early. They just keep the pedal to
- 19:35Speaker 4: the metal and try to get a blowout number because
- 19:37Speaker 4: it wouldn't have looked good on your resume. Because, you know,
- 19:39Speaker 4: Boise State's going to be up there in the Pac-12,
- 19:41Speaker 4: up there trying to battle to win the conference. So
- 19:43Speaker 4: if they win the conference, you can say, hey, you
- 19:44Speaker 4: know what? We beat Boise State by X, Y, and
- 19:47Speaker 4: Z week one. And we're not shocked when you're Oregon
- 19:50Speaker 4: does win this one. They cover easily.
- 19:54Speaker 3: Hey, before we get you out here and tell everybody
- 19:55Speaker 3: where you're at, I don't know, did you see a
- 19:57Speaker 3: post by Ryan Paganetti? Ryan Paganetti, you may know who
- 20:01Speaker 3: he is, Super Bowl winning NFL strategy and analytics former,
- 20:05Speaker 3: or coach formerly for the Eagles, Jaguars, and Raiders. and
- 20:08Speaker 3: what he said on Bill Belichick and the Patriots today
- 20:12Speaker 3: on how they would mask their video board with upright
- 20:17Speaker 3: and field goal, like on the video board.
- 20:18Speaker 2: Did you see this?
- 20:19Speaker 1: No, I didn't.
- 20:20Speaker 3: It was a fascinating story, and I'm going to try
- 20:22Speaker 3: to see if I can share my screen real quick
- 20:24Speaker 3: and just put this up for you and for the
- 20:26Speaker 3: viewers here. If you go look here, let me share
- 20:30Speaker 3: this real quick, see if you can see this. how
- 20:32Speaker 3: that's going to pull in. So Pagnetti, basically, I'm not
- 20:35Speaker 3: going to read all this out.
- 20:36Speaker 2: You'd have to read it.
- 20:37Speaker 3: But basically, if you look at this graphic, the Patriots
- 20:40Speaker 3: would always put on the video board an inverse of
- 20:43Speaker 3: the field with the uprights. So the flag is for
- 20:47Speaker 3: blowing traditionally to the right. They blow to the left.
- 20:50Speaker 3: And they said he went through like 50-something scenarios of this.
- 20:53Speaker 3: And what was interesting is they always did this when
- 20:56Speaker 3: the opponents did it. But when the Patriots were on,
- 20:59Speaker 3: They would blank out the video board.
- 21:01Speaker 2: He said this was a masterful job of really trying
- 21:04Speaker 2: to screw with a kicker.
- 21:05Speaker 3: And he said he was just talking about the Patriot way,
- 21:07Speaker 3: how they did everything down to the integrate.
- 21:10Speaker 2: I had never heard of it. This is taken like
- 21:11Speaker 2: you need to go check this out. You'll really enjoy it.
- 21:15Speaker 4: I mean, first of all, it does not shock me
- 21:17Speaker 4: because back then the Patriots, I think that's why they
- 21:19Speaker 4: won a lot of games. They did everything in anything
- 21:22Speaker 4: to win games. And when you win games in the NFL,
- 21:25Speaker 4: it's much easier to get to the Super Bowl when
- 21:27Speaker 4: you're winning games than losing games.
- 21:30Speaker 2: No, there's no doubt.
- 21:30Speaker 3: Hey, tell everybody where they can find you. Wanted to
- 21:32Speaker 3: come play with you. It's going to be a great weekend.
- 21:35Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a great weekend. Don't forget to jump over
- 21:36Speaker 4: to MyBookie and do all your college football bets there.
- 21:39Speaker 4: What's your promo code again?
- 21:40Speaker 2: I always forget your promo code. Patio.
- 21:44Speaker 4: Patio. Use the promo code patio to sign up over there.
- 21:46Speaker 4: And don't forget, you can find me on X at BSI.Sports.
- 21:48Speaker 4: You can find me on Instagram at Rafael Esparza.
- 21:51Speaker 3: Hey, when we get you on tomorrow, I'm going to
- 21:52Speaker 3: be sitting over in East Mississippi at East Mississippi Community
- 21:56Speaker 3: College for a junior college game.
- 21:58Speaker 2: Did you ever watch Last Chance U on Netflix? Yes.
- 22:01Speaker 3: Okay, so that's where I'm going to be tomorrow. So
- 22:03Speaker 3: maybe we can get some junior college lines tomorrow.
- 22:05Speaker 4: I'll start working on that right now.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Very good.
- 22:08Speaker 4: See you tomorrow.
- 22:09Speaker 2: Rafael Esparza, mybookie.ag, also a part of VSL Doc Sports.
- 22:13Speaker 2: Get him there as well.
- 22:15Speaker 3: We'll get Rob Brown in with us as we move along. And, again,
- 22:18Speaker 3: make sure that you follow the show. on X and,
- 22:22Speaker 3: of course, Facebook and Instagram. Let me see if I
- 22:25Speaker 3: can do this right here. And use that promo code
- 22:27Speaker 3: for MyBookie, mybookie.ag. Get in and play. Use the promo
- 22:31Speaker 3: code patio to get yourself a sign-up bonus. And we're
- 22:34Speaker 3: also brought to you by our friends at Dr.
- 22:36Speaker 4: Pepper.
- 22:37Speaker 3: Whims, winners, we do it every year. Normally we pick
- 22:40Speaker 3: seven plays out of college and three out of the NFL.
- 22:42Speaker 3: We've got 11 college plays because it's the first weekend
- 22:45Speaker 3: of college football this My plays this week, Colorado versus
- 22:48Speaker 3: Georgia Tech. Let's go under the total at 50-and-a-half tomorrow night.
- 22:52Speaker 3: Toledo versus Michigan State on Friday, 46-and-a-half. Let's do the
- 22:55Speaker 3: under or over, excuse me, Georgia Tech, Colorado, under on
- 22:59Speaker 3: Toledo versus Michigan State. USC, Fresno, let's go over the
- 23:03Speaker 3: 51-and-a-half and hit big. Ohio State versus Ball State, over 56-and-a-half.
- 23:08Speaker 3: Give me Auburn to cover the seven versus Baylor and
- 23:12Speaker 3: Oregon versus Boise State. Let's go under at 51.5, a
- 23:16Speaker 3: defensive football game. Troy versus Sam Houston State over the 54.5.
- 23:20Speaker 3: The Trojans and the Sam Houston State, the fighting Phil
- 23:23Speaker 3: Longos over 54.5. LSU versus Clemson. Give me Clemson and
- 23:28Speaker 3: the Tigers and Dabo plus 10. I don't think they're
- 23:30Speaker 3: going to win it, but I think they're going to
- 23:32Speaker 3: scare the daylights out of Lane Kiffin and LSU this weekend.
- 23:35Speaker 3: UCLA versus Cal. Let's go under 53.5. And then we'll
- 23:40Speaker 3: go Ole Miss. Give me Ole Miss to cover versus Louisville.
- 23:43Speaker 3: minus seven and then SMU versus Florida state SMU minus
- 23:49Speaker 3: three and a half. So I like the smooth ponies
- 23:51Speaker 3: there as well.
- 23:52Speaker 2: That's my picks of the week. You can find them
- 23:53Speaker 2: on X. You can find them on Facebook. That's whims winners.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Take them out to my bookie and play today. We'll
- 23:59Speaker 2: have Rob Brown.
- 24:00Speaker 3: With sidelines coming in here. Just in a moment, we'll
- 24:02Speaker 3: get his take on everything in the sec. And again,
- 24:05Speaker 3: you got a big slate coming up tomorrow night and
- 24:07Speaker 3: don't forget you got junior college football tomorrow around the
- 24:10Speaker 3: state of Mississippi and as we'll have– I'll be over
- 24:13Speaker 3: at Scuba, as I told Rafael Esparza, and Hines versus EMCC.
- 24:18Speaker 3: Buddy Stevens was let go this week. That'll be a
- 24:21Speaker 3: big storyline tomorrow out in Scuba. And we'll be talking
- 24:25Speaker 3: about that tomorrow. Of course, Hines 0-1 and East Mississippi,
- 24:29Speaker 3: they're sitting at 1-0. And then, of course, Friday you've
- 24:32Speaker 3: got a lot of great high school football as, you know,
- 24:37Speaker 3: high school football will be rolling– Big time coming up
- 24:40Speaker 3: on Friday night. We've got some big ones. I'll be
- 24:41Speaker 3: at Brandon Madison Central. You've got Oak Grove with a
- 24:44Speaker 3: big game coming up this weekend. Clinton, Warren Central, Pearl,
- 24:47Speaker 3: all the big teams playing coming up this weekend.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Speaking of big time, he's Rob Brown.
- 24:53Speaker 3: And, of course, you can find him on sidelines.live. I
- 24:56Speaker 3: was on with him this morning. And, of course, Rob,
- 24:58Speaker 3: kind enough to stay up late with us.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Rob, you're always working. How are you, sir?
- 25:02Speaker 1: Hell, I love it. Doing great.
- 25:06Speaker 5: Nothing's more fun than your big sister moving September 2nd
- 25:10Speaker 5: when it's 100 degrees.
- 25:11Speaker 1: So I took the 16-foot.
- 25:13Speaker 5: Trailer over there today and met her movers and just
- 25:16Speaker 5: got through moving a bunch more furniture over here at
- 25:18Speaker 5: the house.
- 25:19Speaker 1: But man, I'm so fired up. And I was just
- 25:21Speaker 1: talking to Nigel about you.
- 25:24Speaker 5: Love what you do, man, for Mississippi, for the SEC,
- 25:27Speaker 5: for high school, and for numbers. And I do this
- 25:31Speaker 5: at 3 in the morning if you ask me to.
- 25:33Speaker 5: If you ever want to do a 24-7 podcast-a-thon, I'm
- 25:37Speaker 5: all in.
- 25:38Speaker 2: Maybe we need to do that. We'll find us a sponsor.
- 25:40Speaker 3: Me, you, we'll get Brendan to produce it, and we'll
- 25:42Speaker 3: get Buddy, and we'll get Vince. We'll get everybody out there.
- 25:47Speaker 3: We'll just do a 24-hour podcast.
- 25:50Speaker 1: Podcast-a-thon.
- 25:53Speaker 5: Maybe we'll raise some money for all of us and
- 25:56Speaker 5: for a good cause and something like that.
- 25:57Speaker 1: I think it'd be a lot of fun. I am
- 25:59Speaker 1: just so excited about.
- 26:01Speaker 5: And I talked to some coaches today got some incredible
- 26:04Speaker 5: insight about what I think is happening with Kiffin Dabo
- 26:09Speaker 5: and Golding it's it's fascinating.
- 26:11Speaker 3: Yeah it really is and some of those reports were
- 26:13Speaker 3: out there you know you've got some intel we'll let
- 26:15Speaker 3: you share that as you wish and when you wish
- 26:17Speaker 3: on you might not want to share any of it
- 26:18Speaker 3: but it is very fascinating uh kind of that triangular
- 26:22Speaker 3: effect of you know Kiffin and Dabo and then Golding
- 26:25Speaker 3: and what's going on let me ask you this before
- 26:27Speaker 3: we get into the games this weekend um the SEC
- 26:30Speaker 3: meets tomorrow in court.
- 26:32Speaker 2: I can't believe we're really doing this. I love the
- 26:34Speaker 2: Buc-ee's Cup, by the way. Love the Buc-ee's. Anytime we
- 26:37Speaker 2: pass Buc-ee's, we've.
- 26:37Speaker 4: Got to go.
- 26:38Speaker 2: The kids love it.
- 26:38Speaker 1: I love it.
- 26:39Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 26:40Speaker 3: I mean, who would have thought Buc-ee's– I mean, just
- 26:43Speaker 3: you take a gas station model, and we're going to
- 26:45Speaker 3: make it into a multimillion-dollar business.
- 26:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:48Speaker 5: Well, my friend Billy Roberts, roommate from college, said– people say,
- 26:52Speaker 5: what's Buc-ee's like?
- 26:53Speaker 1: He said, imagine if a truck stop in Walmart had
- 26:56Speaker 1: a baby. It'd be Buc-ee's. There you go.
- 26:58Speaker 2: No, you're absolutely correct. All right, so let me ask
- 27:00Speaker 2: you this.
- 27:02Speaker 3: Tomorrow the SEC and the courts meet tomorrow to try
- 27:05Speaker 3: to figure this whole thing out.
- 27:07Speaker 2: I don't have a clue which way this is going
- 27:08Speaker 2: to go. Can you believe we're on day one?
- 27:11Speaker 3: Look, rosters have to be finalized 24 hours before game time.
- 27:14Speaker 3: You know, luckily for Ole Miss, you get an extra day.
- 27:17Speaker 3: If you're SMU Florida State, you get two extra days.
- 27:19Speaker 2: But, Rob, this is crazy.
- 27:21Speaker 5: It is, and we're here because– and I was talking
- 27:25Speaker 5: with an attorney that I have on my show, Mary
- 27:27Speaker 5: Turner in Tuscaloosa, Turner Law Group. She's– really good at
- 27:30Speaker 5: explaining this there's a loophole it looks like in the
- 27:34Speaker 5: class of 22 and i think no one talked about
- 27:37Speaker 5: covering their rear side and that's what these attorneys have
- 27:41Speaker 5: zeroed in on so i'm a fifth year senior i
- 27:44Speaker 5: was signed in the class of 22 and i was
- 27:47Speaker 5: talking with coach pete cordelli who was on our show
- 27:50Speaker 5: monday we're going to try to jump on in the
- 27:52Speaker 5: morning man he burns up the phones talking to his
- 27:54Speaker 5: coaching friends all over the country And it looks like, hey,
- 27:58Speaker 5: all they're really doing, the judges are saying they're trying
- 28:01Speaker 5: to improve their draft stock.
- 28:03Speaker 1: So that's why we're where we are.
- 28:06Speaker 2: That's very, very interesting. Very interesting. Try to come back.
- 28:10Speaker 3: Let's take another look at us. Let's have that second
- 28:13Speaker 3: walkout on the stage. All right, so we've got some
- 28:15Speaker 3: big ones. Let's go to Baylor and Auburn. Auburn's a
- 28:19Speaker 3: seven-point favorite on my picks this week, WIMS winners that
- 28:21Speaker 3: I do every week during football season. That is one
- 28:23Speaker 3: of my picks. I've got Auburn covering the sevens.
- 28:26Speaker 2: Right here in the middle.
- 28:27Speaker 3: I've got a lot of totals because I don't trust
- 28:29Speaker 3: some of these lines. But Auburn versus Baylor, this is
- 28:33Speaker 3: a big one, obviously. Auburn, you know very, very well.
- 28:37Speaker 3: That is your alma mater, is that correct?
- 28:39Speaker 4: Yes.
- 28:39Speaker 2: Okay, so you're a War Eagle.
- 28:41Speaker 5: I've got a wife that's a Tennessean, oldest daughter, Alabama,
- 28:46Speaker 5: and my three kids from my first marriage, Auburn. And
- 28:49Speaker 5: I'm surrounded by Ole Miss friends, Memphis. I mean, this
- 28:52Speaker 5: is what I love about the South.
- 28:54Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 28:54Speaker 3: Hey, before we get to the pick, one of my,
- 28:56Speaker 3: one of my best friends in college met him in college.
- 28:59Speaker 2: He ended up going, went to Mississippi state.
- 29:01Speaker 3: He ended up going to law school in Alabama, trying
- 29:03Speaker 3: to get me to go with him, but I was
- 29:04Speaker 3: just burned out and out of money.
- 29:05Speaker 2: And I was like, I'm not going to law school.
- 29:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 29:07Speaker 2: His family, huge Auburn family.
- 29:10Speaker 3: I mean, his dad, granddad, brother, everybody went to Auburn,
- 29:12Speaker 3: lived out in Watumka, Alabama, and he broke their heart
- 29:16Speaker 3: when he went to state, but then he double broke
- 29:18Speaker 3: their heart when he went to law school in Alabama.
- 29:20Speaker 5: Oh, hey, look, If you've got three kids, two are
- 29:23Speaker 5: going to one, one's going to the other, rarely, if ever,
- 29:26Speaker 5: do all three go to the same place.
- 29:28Speaker 1: And I'm going to tell you what, I love the
- 29:30Speaker 1: Egg Bowl.
- 29:31Speaker 5: That might be the most fierce on the field because
- 29:35Speaker 5: they go at it physically.
- 29:37Speaker 1: I mean, those are two of the most. intense rivalries
- 29:41Speaker 1: in college or professional sports. But, yeah, happens all the
- 29:44Speaker 1: time like that.
- 29:45Speaker 3: All right, so Auburn, Alex Golish, I like what he says.
- 29:48Speaker 3: I like the product that we saw at South Florida.
- 29:51Speaker 3: Love Byron Brown. I think he could be– you know,
- 29:54Speaker 3: we're talking quarterbacks on the daily show on 105.9 ESPN
- 29:56Speaker 3: Radio today. I was going through the quarterbacks and saying, hey,
- 29:59Speaker 3: who's going to be the household name that we're not
- 30:01Speaker 3: really– everybody's talking Trinidad.
- 30:03Speaker 2: Everybody's talking Arch. I think Byron Brown could.
- 30:06Speaker 3: Be one of those guys where we look up in
- 30:07Speaker 3: October and go, man, this dude is really dealing this year.
- 30:10Speaker 3: He takes on D.J. Lagway, who is obviously tied to
- 30:14Speaker 3: the hill to Dave Aranda. Dave Aranda has to have
- 30:17Speaker 3: him play well. This is a really big matchup this weekend.
- 30:20Speaker 1: It is.
- 30:21Speaker 5: And I think that if you look at Trinidad when
- 30:23Speaker 5: he came out of Ferris State Division II, He was
- 30:26Speaker 5: signed as an afterthought to back up Austin Simmons. And
- 30:29Speaker 5: look what he did. He transitioned very well. Diego Pavia
- 30:33Speaker 5: from that powerhouse, New Mexico State. Very, very good transition
- 30:37Speaker 5: at Vanderbilt. And having Jerry, you know, Jerry Klein, Jerry Keel,
- 30:41Speaker 5: and also Beck, that helped. And some teammates coming with him.
- 30:45Speaker 1: But I think Auburn, what Auburn's got is five years
- 30:50Speaker 1: of losing with Harsin and Freeze. It's not been a
- 30:53Speaker 1: lack of talent.
- 30:54Speaker 5: What Golish has done is I think for the last
- 30:58Speaker 5: five years, our minds are like vegetable gardens. If you
- 31:01Speaker 5: plant seeds of negativity and losing in your mind every day,
- 31:04Speaker 5: that's what grows within you.
- 31:06Speaker 1: It's the opposite if you do the positive.
- 31:08Speaker 5: Golish, I think, burned the tape of the last few
- 31:11Speaker 5: years and basically expunged everybody's records. These guys are ready
- 31:15Speaker 5: to just turn loose and run like wild men. I
- 31:18Speaker 5: do think Auburn gets a win. I think the offense
- 31:21Speaker 5: will be good, but I think D.J. Durkin's defense will
- 31:25Speaker 5: do a really good job And the question really, like
- 31:27Speaker 5: we said at this point, who's under more pressure, John Cohen,
- 31:30Speaker 5: the AD, from moving the game out of Auburn to Atlanta,
- 31:32Speaker 5: or Alex Golish?
- 31:34Speaker 1: And I think it's Cohen.
- 31:35Speaker 5: But, hey, five or six million of NIL money, you
- 31:39Speaker 5: can't turn that down.
- 31:40Speaker 1: That's where we are.
- 31:42Speaker 2: You speak of John Cohen. What's the pulse of John
- 31:44Speaker 2: Cohen down on the plains?
- 31:46Speaker 5: The pulse is that is he– does he understand– and
- 31:53Speaker 5: he's from Tuscaloosa.
- 31:54Speaker 1: Keep that in mind. Just understand that Auburn's.
- 31:57Speaker 5: A lot like Poland. On one side, you've got Russia, Georgia.
- 32:00Speaker 5: On the other side, you've got Alabama, Germany. That's kind
- 32:03Speaker 5: of what Auburn is. And when Auburn's at their best,
- 32:06Speaker 5: they can play with anybody. But they are as messed
- 32:10Speaker 5: up and goofier looking as that scene in the original
- 32:14Speaker 5: bar scene in the original Star Wars movie when they
- 32:17Speaker 5: can't get everybody out of each other's way. Total alignment,
- 32:21Speaker 5: they've got it right now. And that's a good thing.
- 32:24Speaker 5: You've got to have that. But Cohen, all the sports
- 32:28Speaker 5: at Auburn, he's a fundraiser. He's doing a lot of
- 32:30Speaker 5: good things. But it's all about football. I can't believe
- 32:35Speaker 5: he signed off on hiring Hugh Freeze, having been at
- 32:37Speaker 5: Mississippi State when all that was going on. There was
- 32:41Speaker 5: a reporter at Mississippi State that was putting a lot
- 32:43Speaker 5: of stuff out, and good for him. He was digging.
- 32:47Speaker 5: Gene's page, I think, is what it was. But I
- 32:50Speaker 5: think people with– Cohen– is talked about because football's not winning.
- 32:54Speaker 5: When you're winning in football, they're not going to talk
- 32:57Speaker 5: about the AD. It's pretty simple. And Auburn will have
- 33:00Speaker 5: 90% of that crowd. It's Auburn's largest alumni base in
- 33:03Speaker 5: the country outside of Alabama.
- 33:06Speaker 1: It's 90 minutes on the interstate from campus.
- 33:09Speaker 5: There's like 23,000 alumni in Atlanta, plus just fans. I've
- 33:15Speaker 5: been to a lot of games at MBS. It will
- 33:17Speaker 5: be a raucous atmosphere, but I'm with you about Byron Brown.
- 33:21Speaker 5: I think portability of success is on his side. And
- 33:24Speaker 5: I love, I love what Alex Golis does with quarterbacks.
- 33:29Speaker 3: I know it's Louisiana Monroe, but we finally get to
- 33:32Speaker 3: see Camario Taylor Saturday, Mississippi state, you know, this now
- 33:37Speaker 3: coming of age of, I mean, Camaro Taylor is absolutely
- 33:39Speaker 3: the face of Mississippi state now, because if you look
- 33:42Speaker 3: at it, state going back with additional MSU block logo
- 33:46Speaker 3: on the side of the helmet. I don't know if
- 33:47Speaker 3: you saw it or not, but they did a big
- 33:48Speaker 3: release with Wayne Madkin and passing the torch and He's
- 33:51Speaker 3: the guy.
- 33:53Speaker 2: What do you want to see from State on Saturday?
- 33:56Speaker 5: In games like this, coaches will always say it's about
- 34:00Speaker 5: you getting better. It's not about what you do to
- 34:02Speaker 5: that team. Efficiency, not turning the ball over, running their
- 34:08Speaker 5: assignments and everything like that. And what you really want
- 34:11Speaker 5: to see are your ones pushing as hard in practice
- 34:14Speaker 5: and on game day as your twos and threes. Because
- 34:17Speaker 5: depth charts aren't what they used to be. So you
- 34:20Speaker 5: can draw a lot from this. And also your opponents
- 34:22Speaker 5: are looking at your guys, you know. I mean, because
- 34:26Speaker 5: the portal January 2nd to the 16th is coming up.
- 34:29Speaker 5: But Kamario Taylor is such a talented quarterback. And I
- 34:34Speaker 5: heard Phillip Montgomery spoke at the Touchdown Club in Memphis
- 34:36Speaker 5: July 27th. He goes, he's not– don't say he's just
- 34:39Speaker 5: a great athlete. This kid's a hell of a quarterback. See,
- 34:43Speaker 5: and that's what people a lot of times try to say.
- 34:45Speaker 5: And ask any offensive lineman, a quarterback who drops back
- 34:49Speaker 5: and doesn't look at his second and third reads and
- 34:51Speaker 5: starts just scrambling, that's when you get guys holding because
- 34:55Speaker 5: they're trying to cover.
- 34:56Speaker 1: They don't know which way to go.
- 34:58Speaker 5: Camario, that 173 yards rushing against Ole Miss, against a
- 35:03Speaker 5: pretty dang good defense, I mean, that's a sign. I
- 35:06Speaker 5: think that's a harbinger of what you're going to see
- 35:08Speaker 5: with him. He's so big and physical that he gives.
- 35:13Speaker 5: And Jeff Levy, I mean, I know the state is 1-15th,
- 35:17Speaker 5: They're not getting blown out in the games. They've got
- 35:20Speaker 5: to just get over the mental hurdle of winning. When
- 35:22Speaker 5: you've got a quarterback like Mario Taylor, who's from Knoxville County,
- 35:26Speaker 5: you know, 40 minutes away. I mean, this kid's got
- 35:29Speaker 5: a lot of pride. Anytime you're in doubt.
- 35:32Speaker 1: Sign the in-state kid because.
- 35:34Speaker 5: He can never quit on you. It's because you're going
- 35:36Speaker 5: to go back home to Knoxville. He's not going to quit,
- 35:39Speaker 5: but I'm giving as an example. You look at Jeffrey
- 35:41Speaker 5: Simmons out of Macon. Highway 45 has.
- 35:43Speaker 1: Been very good to Mississippi State over the years. I
- 35:46Speaker 1: love that highway.
- 35:47Speaker 5: Scuba, and you get on down there to Waynesboro.
- 35:51Speaker 1: All those towns.
- 35:52Speaker 5: And then, by the way, is Moss Point, Mississippi, the
- 35:56Speaker 5: one high school that Mississippi State's probably signed more from
- 35:58Speaker 5: than any other school ever?
- 36:01Speaker 2: Probably prior to COVID, for sure. Yeah, prior to COVID.
- 36:03Speaker 2: And I say COVID just because– not COVID, I'm sorry.
- 36:06Speaker 4: Katrina. Yes. Katrina.
- 36:10Speaker 2: A lot of those families moved out of the Gulf Coast. And,
- 36:13Speaker 2: you know, like West Point or Moss Point now, not
- 36:15Speaker 2: West Point, Moss Point, it's kind of a shell of
- 36:17Speaker 2: what it used to be.
- 36:17Speaker 3: But, yes, prior to that, there was so– Jackie Wayne
- 36:21Speaker 3: got a lot of guys. I mean, from Kevin Fant
- 36:23Speaker 3: to defensive players. I mean, Moss Point was really, really good.
- 36:27Speaker 3: Now we're starting to see kind of a rebuild.
- 36:31Speaker 2: The Gulf Coast, as far as infrastructure, has been rebuilt.
- 36:33Speaker 3: But the schools, Ocean Springs, Gulfport, the Iberville, you know, Picayune,
- 36:38Speaker 3: you're seeing a lot of those schools really kind of,
- 36:41Speaker 3: you know, come.
- 36:42Speaker 2: Back to life.
- 36:42Speaker 3: Gulfport won the highest classification this past year in Mississippi
- 36:45Speaker 3: high school football in 7A.
- 36:47Speaker 5: Yeah, and I think about the hardest hit that I've
- 36:49Speaker 5: seen in the last 25 or 30 years. There was
- 36:53Speaker 5: a defensive back from Mississippi State in 2000 named Josh
- 36:57Speaker 5: Morgan out of Warren County Central. He hit an Auburn
- 37:00Speaker 5: receiver in the flat, and that guy crapped his pants.
- 37:03Speaker 1: I mean, that was the move.
- 37:04Speaker 5: And Mississippi State beat Auburn physically– Mississippi State beat them physically.
- 37:11Speaker 1: In a way I had not seen happen in a long,
- 37:13Speaker 1: long time.
- 37:15Speaker 5: And I just think about these in-state– I think about
- 37:17Speaker 5: guys like Dorsett Davis, Tyrone Keyes. Somebody asked me the
- 37:20Speaker 5: other day, who's your favorite Mississippi State player of all time?
- 37:24Speaker 1: And I still– when I.
- 37:25Speaker 5: Was a kid, SEC Sports Journal front cover, Mississippi State's
- 37:30Speaker 5: magic man, Marty McDowell from Mobile, Alabama.
- 37:33Speaker 1: That's still my favorite player.
- 37:34Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 37:36Speaker 5: I say he also gave me some nightmares as an
- 37:38Speaker 5: Auburn fan because he was– I would love.
- 37:41Speaker 1: To know what he's doing now. I mean, I just–
- 37:43Speaker 1: I'd love to know what happened to these guys because
- 37:46Speaker 1: that dude loved Mississippi State and the Maroon. I just–
- 37:50Speaker 1: I love players like that that love the school.
- 37:53Speaker 2: Yeah, and let me give you some insight for the
- 37:54Speaker 2: next one on Josh Morgan.
- 37:56Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 37:56Speaker 2: You may know this man. He is the head football
- 37:58Speaker 2: coach at Warren Central High School down in Vicksburg. Yeah,
- 38:01Speaker 2: where he is.
- 38:01Speaker 3: Where his father coached him, Rob Senior. And his son, Nash,
- 38:06Speaker 3: is the quarterback who just committed to Mississippi State, but
- 38:09Speaker 3: he will play safety as well. Kind of like what
- 38:12Speaker 3: you saw with Bray Hubbard out of Ocean Springs, who
- 38:14Speaker 3: now is an All-American in Alabama.
- 38:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 38:17Speaker 3: Rob, I mean, Josh Morgan's son, Nash, will be at
- 38:19Speaker 3: Starkville next year. So, you know, refurbishing that Morgan name
- 38:23Speaker 3: at Starkville.
- 38:25Speaker 1: Well, legacies, man.
- 38:26Speaker 5: And I just– if you're going to sign a three-star
- 38:29Speaker 5: from California, no. Sign the three-star from Mississippi because– Per capita,
- 38:34Speaker 5: that state puts more guys in the NFL than any
- 38:36Speaker 5: other state in America.
- 38:37Speaker 2: Speaking of staying in the state, Ole Miss with a
- 38:39Speaker 2: big one against Louisville.
- 38:40Speaker 3: Louisville was 9-4 last year, 9-4 two years ago. Last
- 38:44Speaker 3: year they lost three ballgames by three points or less.
- 38:47Speaker 3: Jeff Brom's a really good coach. They're breaking in a
- 38:49Speaker 3: new quarterback. They've got a really good running back.
- 38:51Speaker 2: Can Louisville hang around and will they scare Ole Miss
- 38:54Speaker 2: this weekend?
- 38:55Speaker 1: I think they will.
- 38:56Speaker 5: And we talked to Yancey Porter Tuesday from Rebel Yell Hotline.
- 38:59Speaker 1: He made a good point with Pete Golding.
- 39:02Speaker 5: Being the head coach, you're probably going to see more 10,
- 39:04Speaker 5: maybe 12 play drives. They're going to try to, I say,
- 39:07Speaker 5: protect the defense. But there's going to be some transitioning.
- 39:11Speaker 5: But I do think Ole Miss gets the win. I
- 39:14Speaker 5: think it's going to take a full 60, though. Because
- 39:16Speaker 5: you know what, Jake, this is what I love about
- 39:19Speaker 5: talking with you on the show, and I get so
- 39:21Speaker 5: much positive feedback. You identify and shed the light, and
- 39:25Speaker 5: you're good about pointing the flashlight in any direction. It's
- 39:28Speaker 5: kind of like when you're out in the woods at night,
- 39:29Speaker 5: and you point it out around you, you see eyes everywhere.
- 39:32Speaker 1: There's good football players all over the country. And that's
- 39:36Speaker 1: what I love. And I know we're myopically focused on
- 39:39Speaker 1: the SEC down here, but we don't want to lose football.
- 39:44Speaker 5: Around the country. And I'm sitting there thinking about Louisville.
- 39:47Speaker 5: The fighting Brahms are good. This is a great test
- 39:50Speaker 5: for Ole Miss. I've got them playing Georgia for the
- 39:53Speaker 5: SEC championship.
- 39:56Speaker 2: LSU, oh, yeah, that's a great pick.
- 39:58Speaker 3: I mean, and that's the thing about this year is
- 40:00Speaker 3: I don't think there's a huge divide, you know, from
- 40:02Speaker 3: the national championship picks. We've seen Notre Dame, Oregon, Georgia, Texas.
- 40:06Speaker 3: I mean, you go through the list, Miami and some others,
- 40:09Speaker 3: somewhere in the SEC. Saturday night down in.
- 40:12Speaker 2: Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge is going to be crazy.
- 40:17Speaker 3: I picked Clemson– to cover the 10 today.
- 40:22Speaker 2: I've got Clemson plus 10.
- 40:23Speaker 3: And my reasoning, and I could be totally off on this,
- 40:26Speaker 3: is just I feel like Dabo Sweeney is still a
- 40:29Speaker 3: really good coach.
- 40:30Speaker 2: I feel like he knows that he kind of gets
- 40:33Speaker 2: the gun. I mean, you know this.
- 40:35Speaker 3: Clemson, lowest-ranked AP top 25 they've had since he's been there, probably,
- 40:39Speaker 3: since the year one or year two.
- 40:41Speaker 2: Largest odds on the end to win the national title.
- 40:45Speaker 2: Started at 301. They're at 175-1. This is– Win total,
- 40:49Speaker 2: seven and a half. This is a Clemson team that
- 40:52Speaker 2: is desperate.
- 40:53Speaker 3: And a lot of times when you get desperate teams
- 40:55Speaker 3: to go in a situation, I think they could hang
- 40:58Speaker 3: around on Saturday night.
- 40:59Speaker 1: You just gave exactly why I'm taking them to cover two.
- 41:02Speaker 1: They're desperate. Nobody is giving them a chance. Poor old Clemson.
- 41:07Speaker 1: And people will ask Dabo, you know, are y'all Clemsoning again?
- 41:10Speaker 1: He hates that.
- 41:11Speaker 5: He goes ballistic when he hears that. But LSU's got
- 41:16Speaker 5: so much confusion right now. Say what you want about
- 41:19Speaker 5: Lane Kiffin.
- 41:20Speaker 1: Is he breaking the rules? Coaches that I'm talking to
- 41:23Speaker 1: say he's bending them. And he's bending them as far,
- 41:25Speaker 1: it's like pulling back on a damn compound bow.
- 41:28Speaker 5: As far as you can. Why is he making everybody mad?
- 41:32Speaker 5: Is it because he's out working them? He's out thanking them?
- 41:34Speaker 1: I don't know. But I know one thing Pete Golding did,
- 41:37Speaker 1: I was told by a coach, it was like four
- 41:39Speaker 1: o'clock in the afternoon before the player signed with Ole
- 41:44Speaker 1: Miss and left after being in class at Clemson in
- 41:46Speaker 1: the portal.
- 41:47Speaker 5: He had eight hours till midnight. Dabo could have stopped him.
- 41:51Speaker 5: I think Dabo's mad that, dead gummit, I got outsmarted.
- 41:54Speaker 5: Pete Golding, you've got to be aggressive.
- 41:57Speaker 1: You've got to be.
- 41:58Speaker 5: But I think Clemson hangs around, and we don't know
- 42:03Speaker 5: Levitt's status. Go back to last summer, DJ Lagway. Pete
- 42:09Speaker 5: Cordelli said on the show one morning, he got hurt
- 42:11Speaker 5: in the weight room this summer.
- 42:13Speaker 1: He dropped that bomb. We were like, whoa.
- 42:15Speaker 4: And he did.
- 42:16Speaker 5: He was pushing too hard on the rehab. He wasn't
- 42:18Speaker 5: good to go until late in the season. He never
- 42:21Speaker 5: really got off the ground at Florida.
- 42:24Speaker 1: I don't like not having my quarterback locked in this
- 42:29Speaker 1: close to a big game. So I will take Clemson
- 42:32Speaker 1: to cover.
- 42:33Speaker 5: Now, LSU could come out and play lights out, but
- 42:36Speaker 5: it's usually not what it appears.
- 42:38Speaker 1: Everybody can't be right at the same time.
- 42:40Speaker 3: Before we get you on your way, what else are
- 42:42Speaker 3: you looking for around the league?
- 42:43Speaker 2: I mean, obviously Oklahoma, Texas.
- 42:45Speaker 3: Florida, you know, some others. They're playing games in which
- 42:49Speaker 3: they should win by large margins. What else are you
- 42:51Speaker 3: intrigued by this weekend?
- 42:52Speaker 5: I like the boys from San Marcos, Texas, the Bobcats,
- 42:55Speaker 5: Texas State. They will give Texas a good run. That's
- 42:58Speaker 5: the fastest growing college in Texas. Of course, there's so many, 30.
- 43:02Speaker 1: Million people down there.
- 43:03Speaker 5: But I think that will be a good one. Tennessee,
- 43:06Speaker 5: I'm anxious to see. Look, when you're starting Brandon Frazon,
- 43:10Speaker 5: he's a true freshman. But here's the thing about this kid.
- 43:14Speaker 5: He is like the Capital One Bank guy that lives
- 43:17Speaker 5: in the bank branch. Everyone I've talked to that knows,
- 43:22Speaker 5: he's from Greensboro, North Carolina, same place as Hendon Hooker,
- 43:25Speaker 5: who came to Tennessee after being at Virginia Tech.
- 43:28Speaker 1: I'm going to be anxious to see what Brandon Faison
- 43:30Speaker 1: does because.
- 43:34Speaker 5: They are cutting corn, rice, and beans over here at
- 43:36Speaker 5: the farm, and it is– It is hard to breathe.
- 43:39Speaker 5: I mean, there's a haze out there. Then they start
- 43:42Speaker 5: burning the field. I was out on my mountain bike
- 43:44Speaker 5: one time last early September on a Sunday morning, and
- 43:47Speaker 5: the wind changed, and it was a whiteout. And I
- 43:49Speaker 5: couldn't see for about 15 seconds. And I said, stay
- 43:52Speaker 5: on the road.
- 43:53Speaker 1: The farm shop is right up there. I'm sure it is.
- 43:56Speaker 1: I made it.
- 43:57Speaker 5: But I'm anxious to see any time you've got a
- 44:00Speaker 5: true freshman quarterback. East Carolina, they sold all their tickets.
- 44:05Speaker 5: The Pirates are excited about coming down there to Tuscaloosa. Look,
- 44:10Speaker 5: you've got Keylon Russell, a true freshman.
- 44:12Speaker 1: That's going to be fun. He played last year. I'm sorry.
- 44:15Speaker 5: He played in a couple of games, blowouts. But this
- 44:19Speaker 5: is a quarterback that Kalen DeBoer picked himself. That's going
- 44:24Speaker 5: to be fun to watch. Nothing against Ty Simpson out
- 44:27Speaker 5: of Martin, Tennessee, number 13 pick.
- 44:29Speaker 1: But you know what?
- 44:31Speaker 5: What you can never say when you take a job
- 44:33Speaker 5: is when I get my players in here, we're going
- 44:35Speaker 5: to be good.
- 44:36Speaker 1: You say, I love them. These are my players. Kalen
- 44:39Speaker 1: DeBoer has been pretty smart about doing that.
- 44:41Speaker 5: And I know I've got them winning seven or eight
- 44:43Speaker 5: games if they can't run the ball, but isn't it
- 44:45Speaker 5: kind of crazy? Last year was the worst running game
- 44:49Speaker 5: since 1956. Alabama still won 11 games.
- 44:53Speaker 1: That is unbelievable.
- 44:55Speaker 4: No, that is.
- 44:55Speaker 1: That is.
- 44:56Speaker 2: Rob, tell everybody where to find you. I know you
- 44:58Speaker 2: guys are going to be burning it up over the
- 44:59Speaker 2: next couple of days.
