- 0:00There are many methods that have been tried to shift ideas,
- 0:04thoughts, motives, and actions in the world.
- 0:09Some of these methods involve subtle or not so subtle use of
- 0:13various forms of propagandizing, proselytizing, sermonizing, or
- 0:19dominating others through use of covert or overt force, including
- 0:24brute physical force, vital force, economic force, or mental
- 0:29force. There are also those who harness
- 0:32what we may call a religious force or a patriotic force, or a
- 0:37force of belonging to a particular group.
- 0:40At a broader level, all of these methods utilize external means
- 0:45to cajole, convince, or bully others into accepting A
- 0:50preferred way of thinking or acting.
- 0:53The individual who chooses a different path may be
- 0:56ostracized, bullied, harmed, tortured, denied opportunities,
- 1:02or eliminated. It is interesting to note that
- 1:05none of these forces have succeeded in the long history of
- 1:09humanity, throughout the entire world and across numerous
- 1:13cultures in preventing individual growth, progress and
- 1:17development, which then eventually fed into the society
- 1:22and brought about changes in the social order.
- 1:26The trajectory of the evolution of consciousness has always
- 1:29overcome and outlasted the short lived outer pressures of the
- 1:35more external methods. Many of those who have employed
- 1:40these external methods had good intentions and motivations to
- 1:44create a better society, but along the way they chose a path
- 1:49of coercion in one form or another as a means toward the
- 1:53realization of their goals, adopting the sense that the end
- 1:58justifies the means. There are other, quieter and
- 2:03less visible ways to help others, and the world we live in
- 2:06develop in ways that can benefit without oppression or violence.
- 2:11We can see thinkers, artists, writers who have had a positive
- 2:17influence through millennia simply by the expression of
- 2:20their art, their music, their feelings and their ideas which
- 2:26captured the imagination and understanding of people by
- 2:30virtue of the value of those concepts.
- 2:33We have seen great religious leaders who not only expressed
- 2:37new ideas, but work to live out those ideals and create a core
- 2:42group of individuals who tried to adopt them in their own
- 2:45lives. Ideas such as non violence,
- 2:50equality, freedom, harmony and goodwill have spread through
- 2:56such means. In some cases we see individuals
- 3:00whose ideas are not new, but who in their own being radiate the
- 3:05joy, the simplicity, the empathy and harmony that others speak
- 3:11about, and we are drawn to those individuals to simply bask in
- 3:15the radiance of their aura. These individuals can in some
- 3:20cases creates such a powerful atmosphere around them that
- 3:24normally aggressive animals can coexist in peace.
- 3:29There are legends of ancient Rishis who had lions or tigers
- 3:33in their forest retreat who did not attack anyone or anything
- 3:38while in that place. Individuals who came there felt
- 3:42the sacred and deeply peaceful nature of the ashram and gained
- 3:47a measure of peace themselves. The influence of radiating A
- 3:52transformative energy cannot be directly measured, but as we see
- 3:56with artists, philosophers, poets and musicians, the energy
- 4:01carries itself out through time. In one of his aphorisms, Sri
- 4:07Orobindo indicated that the French Revolution took place
- 4:10because a Yogi living in a cave in the Himalayan Mountains
- 4:15dreamed of freedom. The question of whether an
- 4:19influence can circulate around the globe and through a span of
- 4:23time is 1 which is occupied thoughtful individuals.
- 4:28It becomes clear that when humanity is ready, ideas and
- 4:32forces that have been in preparation, perhaps received,
- 4:37experienced and transmitted by lonesome individuals, are able
- 4:43to burst forth and bring about extraordinary opportunities for
- 4:47human growth and development. The real issues that have
- 4:52plagued humanity are not to be solved by physical, vital or
- 4:56mental solutions. As a transitional being, man is
- 5:02imperfect and the limitations of the currently evolved
- 5:05instruments are visible. We have limited capacity for
- 5:09seeing and understanding the complete picture of the
- 5:12universal manifestation. We have imperfect vital
- 5:16reactions that lead to the failures of all our systems with
- 5:20expressions of greed, lust, vanity, pride, anger, and
- 5:25hatred, et cetera. We have limited physical
- 5:29capacities. It is by the evolution of the
- 5:32next stage of the expression of consciousness that we can shift
- 5:36our standpoint away from these limitations and find the
- 5:40harmonizing factor that can unite them and resolve the
- 5:44weaknesses. And it is thus that the seeker
- 5:48can truly work to advance humanity and help to overcome
- 5:52the darkness and ignorance that has contributed so much pain and
- 5:57suffering on our developmental path.
- 6:01The mother notes quote. If one sincerely wants to help
- 6:05others and the world, the best thing one can do is to be
- 6:09oneself, what one wants others to be, not only as an example,
- 6:15but because one becomes a center of radiating power which, by the
- 6:20very fact that it exists, compels the rest of the world to
- 6:24transform itself. End Quote.
