- 0:00Speaker 1: With Stu Gotts and Hawkman.
- 0:02Speaker 2: I mean another pod. Don't look now, this is turning
- 0:08Speaker 2: into a regular thing. I mean, what is going on.
- 0:11Speaker 3: I feel like we're in the dating mode of our
- 0:14Speaker 3: relationship again. We dated, we got married, we got divorced,
- 0:19Speaker 3: and all of a sudden, we've rekindled a flame.
- 0:22Speaker 4: Yes, and you have a testosterone shot this week?
- 0:26Speaker 2: So are you gonna try to have sex with me?
- 0:29Speaker 3: I have a testosterone shot every week, every week, every week.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Wow. Yeah, it's a lot of tea. Yeah.
- 0:39Speaker 3: I don't mess around your wife. I mentioned my poor wife,
- 0:45Speaker 3: poor Laurie. She just wants, she wants the marriage and
- 0:49Speaker 3: everything just to ride off into the sunset. And all
- 0:51Speaker 3: of a sudden, I'm like a eighteen year old boy who.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Was gonna call you cockman.
- 1:10Speaker 3: So I mentioned in our last podcast, I was going
- 1:12Speaker 3: to read some direct messages that I got on Instagram.
- 1:15Speaker 2: I never got to it, So here are a few.
- 1:17Speaker 2: You can always.
- 1:18Speaker 3: DM me and that way I'll bring it up on
- 1:20Speaker 3: the show or I'll implement whatever you're dming about on
- 1:24Speaker 3: the show.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Radio Mark Hachman on Instagram. Here's a message.
- 1:28Speaker 3: I started listening to the podcast as I loved listening
- 1:31Speaker 3: to you all. When I worked as an analyst years ago,
- 1:34Speaker 3: there were segments from I Gotta tell you poop Shoes,
- 1:39Speaker 3: Stu Gott's pooped himself, the Suez Hackman, foot foot, Remember
- 1:44Speaker 3: foot foot? Ye remember foot fault. I tried to say
- 1:48Speaker 3: foot fault. I said foot foot. Some of the reference
- 1:53Speaker 3: just in the direct message. Twenty years later, people still
- 1:58Speaker 3: remember that stuff. You know, that crazy blah blah blah
- 2:01Speaker 3: where I would start laughing so hard people would start
- 2:04Speaker 3: looking at me. I still also think about how during
- 2:07Speaker 3: an interview people would hang up on Dan and Stu
- 2:10Speaker 3: and it would be so awkward. One read I remember
- 2:13Speaker 3: is when there was a new sponsor New Bag, Dan said,
- 2:17Speaker 3: there's no way the sponsor was true. This is so
- 2:20Speaker 3: much fun. Thank you for bringing back all the good memories, Michael.
- 2:25Speaker 3: It's been as much fun for us as it is
- 2:27Speaker 3: for you. And New Bag was indeed a real sponsor
- 2:31Speaker 3: Sack of the Week. They were before their time, Yes,
- 2:35Speaker 3: they really were.
- 2:36Speaker 2: You're right, Yeah, let's see somebody dms me high Hawk.
- 2:41Speaker 2: I was thinking if you guys ever.
- 2:42Speaker 3: Had any good or funny stories of interacting with other
- 2:45Speaker 3: Miami media legends like Tony Sigretto, Dwight Lauderdale, Belkie's Narray,
- 2:52Speaker 3: Louis Aguire or Louis Guire as he liked to call himself.
- 2:57Speaker 3: I went to UM with him and he was Louis Aguire.
- 3:00Speaker 3: I went to UM with it.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Yes, but then you start hosting Deco Drive and it's.
- 3:03Speaker 3: A geary and then he says, or DJ Lanz Footy,
- 3:08Speaker 3: Paul and young Ron. I love all the inside baseball
- 3:11Speaker 3: stories you guys would have from time to time. And
- 3:14Speaker 3: I responded to him and I said, you know what,
- 3:15Speaker 3: we do want to do some more inside baseball stuff
- 3:18Speaker 3: when it comes to media, because you and I have
- 3:21Speaker 3: stories from Ron Saint John.
- 3:24Speaker 4: Oh, I have stories, you know, involving footy. I have
- 3:29Speaker 4: stories involving Paul cast Gronova. Paul would be a great
- 3:32Speaker 4: guest to come on this show. I'd like to do that.
- 3:35Speaker 4: H Yeah, I'm I'm I'm down with that, man. I
- 3:37Speaker 4: want to take people inside of radio, inside of what
- 3:41Speaker 4: it is that we do.
- 3:42Speaker 2: You have tell it? Haw? Can I play a sound
- 3:44Speaker 2: just for that listener? Sure? Football? A foot foot of
- 3:48Speaker 2: fall cult? Uh? Hawk were you there when we played
- 3:54Speaker 2: stump the meach?
- 3:55Speaker 1: Uh?
- 3:56Speaker 2: You know?
- 3:56Speaker 3: John Amichi yeah, I was already off the show when
- 3:59Speaker 3: Stumped Meat started, So we.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Would have meet John.
- 4:02Speaker 4: He would get We would give him five words that
- 4:05Speaker 4: I said, and he would have the guess the word
- 4:07Speaker 4: that was coming.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Out of my mouth. So Taylor played that one more time.
- 4:10Speaker 4: For example, Meach would be on and Dan would say, Okay,
- 4:13Speaker 4: here's number three.
- 4:15Speaker 2: What did Stegat's try to say? Foot call a foot,
- 4:18Speaker 2: foot a fall call Meach never won, never got the
- 4:25Speaker 2: foot fault on that one. Huh.
- 4:29Speaker 3: We mentioned on this pod a few episodes ago, Wake
- 4:33Speaker 3: and Take Yes, and it seemed like I wasn't aware
- 4:38Speaker 3: of it, and it seemed like you didn't remember it
- 4:40Speaker 3: as well as you should have. According to I have
- 4:43Speaker 3: a ton of direct messages from people correcting you on
- 4:47Speaker 3: your own.
- 4:47Speaker 4: Description of it. I think the listeners are right. Whatever
- 4:51Speaker 4: you're receiving via DM, I agree with them. I remember
- 4:55Speaker 4: doing Wake It Take, I just don't remember how Wake
- 4:57Speaker 4: It Take got started.
- 4:58Speaker 2: That's all you know. Here's the uh.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Here's one of the dms from a guy named Ricky
- 5:02Speaker 3: hey Mark long time, first time, long time. I think
- 5:06Speaker 3: I think you would really love the stuff Stu Gott's
- 5:08Speaker 3: Billy and Poppy did with Wake and Take if you
- 5:12Speaker 3: haven't listened to it. A few years back, I compiled
- 5:15Speaker 3: all the Wake and Take segments from the summer of
- 5:17Speaker 3: twenty seventeen.
- 5:18Speaker 2: You can listen here and there's a YouTube link.
- 5:21Speaker 3: He said, I will absolutely never forget the phone number
- 5:24Speaker 3: seven eight six four five six four eight three seven
- 5:27Speaker 3: because of how nuts Billy went with those intros. Stu
- 5:31Speaker 3: Gott's always had notes, but it was up to us,
- 5:34Speaker 3: the callers, to get them out of them. Thanks for
- 5:37Speaker 3: all you've done over the years to make us laugh. Yeah,
- 5:41Speaker 3: and someone that.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Is accurate Hawks. So I would approach this segment.
- 5:44Speaker 4: First off, Billy learned from the Mark Hawkman tree, So
- 5:47Speaker 4: those numbers in the open, he would pound them over
- 5:50Speaker 4: and over and over again. And then yes, I would
- 5:54Speaker 4: have opinions, I would have thoughts, I would have takes,
- 5:58Speaker 4: but it was not my job, even though it was
- 6:00Speaker 4: to give them to the audience. It was the audience,
- 6:03Speaker 4: audience's job to call in and pull those takes and
- 6:07Speaker 4: opinions and thoughts out of me.
- 6:10Speaker 2: You know, one of the other direct messages I got,
- 6:12Speaker 2: you're reminding me of the segment I did. I appreciate it.
- 6:15Speaker 3: One of the other direct messages I got with somebody
- 6:17Speaker 3: saying essentially the segment was Dan no longer wanted to
- 6:20Speaker 3: do the local hour, and so he handed it to you.
- 6:25Speaker 3: And then you were like, well, I don't want to
- 6:26Speaker 3: do this either. I'll just hand it to the listeners
- 6:29Speaker 3: and if you can get the stuff out of me,
- 6:32Speaker 3: get the stuff.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Out of me.
- 6:33Speaker 4: Yes, yes, I mean my job was to give them
- 6:38Speaker 4: the stuff. But no, I was upset because I was
- 6:41Speaker 4: left alone to my own devices. I'm like, hey, if
- 6:45Speaker 4: you want my opinions, you guys, call ask the right
- 6:47Speaker 4: questions and I'll give them to you.
- 6:49Speaker 2: And if you don't, I won't. How about that to
- 6:53Speaker 2: you taking that? How about that? I got a certain
- 6:57Speaker 2: if I'm still accurate on it, hauk. I think people
- 6:59Speaker 2: don't really.
- 7:01Speaker 4: I mean, I'm being serious here, and I think you'll
- 7:03Speaker 4: agree when I'm done doing a two hour show, three
- 7:06Speaker 4: hour show, for it doesn't matter how long the show is.
- 7:08Speaker 2: I don't remember a single thing when it's over. I
- 7:11Speaker 2: just don't. It's taxing.
- 7:13Speaker 3: People don't realize how taxing it is to put out
- 7:15Speaker 3: that much content. It's why most podcasts like this one included,
- 7:20Speaker 3: do maybe two episodes a week three episodes a week.
- 7:23Speaker 3: I'm got like Joe Rogan, I don't listen, but how
- 7:26Speaker 3: many episodes does he put out?
- 7:27Speaker 2: One a week? I'm not even sure to be honest
- 7:30Speaker 2: with you, maybe two a week.
- 7:31Speaker 4: Yeah, but it's taxing. To your point, it's taxing, and
- 7:34Speaker 4: that's why people do it that way. Yes, Hawk, I
- 7:37Speaker 4: have the opening to wake and take if you want
- 7:39Speaker 4: to hear how over the top Billy was and why
- 7:41Speaker 4: people have still remembered that phone number.
- 7:44Speaker 3: That's one of the things that people were dming me
- 7:47Speaker 3: about was that the opens would get more and more
- 7:51Speaker 3: intricate and crazy, and that was part of the appeal
- 7:54Speaker 3: of the segment.
- 7:58Speaker 5: It is time to wake and stake with two gats
- 8:01Speaker 5: seven I six four five six for A three seven.
- 8:05Speaker 5: That's seven I six four five six for A three seven.
- 8:11Speaker 5: H two wants to hear from you seven A six
- 8:14Speaker 5: four five six for eight three seven what's on your mind?
- 8:18Speaker 5: Seven I six four five six four A three seven
- 8:23Speaker 5: hapack watch your first two seven I six four five
- 8:26Speaker 5: six for A three seven. He's taking notes seven I
- 8:31Speaker 5: six four five six for A three seven, But it
- 8:35Speaker 5: is up to you to get them out of him
- 8:37Speaker 5: seven eight six four five six for a three seven.
- 8:42Speaker 5: Go now seven A six four five six for a
- 8:46Speaker 5: three seven. That's seven I six four five six for
- 8:51Speaker 5: a three seven.
- 8:54Speaker 3: I mean you talk about the Hawkman producing tree. If
- 8:58Speaker 3: you said, Hock, do you remember producing this? I would
- 9:01Speaker 3: have said, Yep, that was one of my.
- 9:02Speaker 4: Best I saw you smiling with such delight as we
- 9:08Speaker 4: were playing that.
- 9:09Speaker 2: I imagined Billy smiling.
- 9:10Speaker 4: As he was putting it together, that devilish smile.
- 9:14Speaker 2: And then I realized, why me and Billy are no
- 9:16Speaker 2: longer there.
- 9:19Speaker 3: Let me text Billy on my Marlins thread with all
- 9:22Speaker 3: the fellas, see if he remember that I was eating out.
- 9:28Speaker 2: So well hawk. The reason for that long open is
- 9:31Speaker 2: that would take up at least a hand. Yeah, you're
- 9:34Speaker 2: eating up time. Do anything to eat up time.
- 9:37Speaker 3: But I'll play something for everybody here on today's podcast
- 9:42Speaker 3: because the foot Foot got me thinking like just little
- 9:45Speaker 3: quick things sometimes could make you laugh for a long
- 9:48Speaker 3: period of time, or jog memories we played in the
- 9:52Speaker 3: last episode the two thousand and seven suiy Awards for
- 9:55Speaker 3: Best Song. There was a category in the two thousand
- 9:58Speaker 3: and seven Suis for best laugh. Yeah, and it's literal
- 10:04Speaker 3: really like a second and a half, you know where
- 10:07Speaker 3: somebody just goes, but sometimes that laugh sticks with you.
- 10:11Speaker 3: These are from two thousand and seven, so these are
- 10:13Speaker 3: almost twenty years old, and you're gonna hear some of
- 10:16Speaker 3: these and you're gonna go, oh, yeah, I remember when
- 10:18Speaker 3: he made that laugh like it's it's crazy.
- 10:20Speaker 2: So here it is. This is from the two thousand
- 10:23Speaker 2: and seven Suie.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Awards, and no to present the award for best laugh
- 10:34Speaker 1: I Ever heard on the ten LeBatard Show. Please welcome
- 10:37Speaker 1: fig Sean Batten. You know I love a belly laugh.
- 10:48Speaker 1: I love my belly, but I love the laugh favorite more.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Pat Summer makes me laugh. I mean especially he had
- 10:54Speaker 1: a bar Brett Fire.
- 10:55Speaker 6: Makes me cry though, yeah, sweet sweet yeah, I mean,
- 10:59Speaker 6: why don't even guess before. Sometimes laughter is the best medicine,
- 11:02Speaker 6: though check check that a Stickers bar is the best medicine.
- 11:07Speaker 2: But laughter is like benadrux. It can make you if
- 11:10Speaker 2: you're if you're sick.
- 11:12Speaker 6: If you you know, if you have a Snickers bar
- 11:13Speaker 6: that you think, hey, I have a pen analogy. Just
- 11:16Speaker 6: have some laughter, or or take a picture of Brett
- 11:18Speaker 6: Farr and just give it a hug. But sometimes people
- 11:20Speaker 6: come on the Dan Labatard Show on LAMP. I don't
- 11:22Speaker 6: know why. The show definitely isn't funny. I mean, I mean,
- 11:25Speaker 6: I couldn't even tell you what it is. At times
- 11:28Speaker 6: it's entertaining, but that usually for the wrong reasons.
- 11:31Speaker 2: But the Suie Award for the Best laugh Ever Heard
- 11:34Speaker 2: on the show.
- 11:35Speaker 6: Here are the nominees for best Laugh for the two
- 11:37Speaker 6: thousand and seven SUI Awards.
- 11:39Speaker 2: The Studio.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Two are your nominees for best laugh Ever Heard on
- 11:50Speaker 1: The Dan LeBatard Show for the two thousand and seven
- 11:53Speaker 1: Suie Awards.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Chuck Norris and Hercule.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Hulk Hogan, Dan Lebot's Art, Jimmy Superfly Snucker, fake Burt Reynolds,
- 12:15Speaker 1: fake U Bei Brown, The Million Dollar Man, Ted dbs Ken, Dorsey,
- 12:27Speaker 1: Michael Irvin from Rocky for Dolph Lundgren, Fake Eddie Murphy,
- 12:39Speaker 1: a random caller, Jason Whitlock, fake Riddler, Fake Taed Knight,
- 12:54Speaker 1: Joe Sisman. And those are your nominees for best laugh
- 13:07Speaker 1: ever Heard on the Day Lebatad Show for the two
- 13:09Speaker 1: thousand and seven SUI Award.
- 13:11Speaker 3: Was I used to do that every year we do
- 13:15Speaker 3: best Laugh from you know. I think we started the
- 13:19Speaker 3: series in two thousand and six. The show started in
- 13:22Speaker 3: two thousand and four, and I would do best laugh,
- 13:24Speaker 3: which is really those quick hitters. I don't know if
- 13:26Speaker 3: Mike continue to do it after I was gone in
- 13:29Speaker 3: like twenty eleven or twenty twelve, but just those couple
- 13:33Speaker 3: of seconds, man can make you laugh. The Hulk Hogan
- 13:36Speaker 3: laugh obviously is.
- 13:39Speaker 2: One of those that probably still resonates. And there's a
- 13:42Speaker 2: little uh there was a fake? Which one was it?
- 13:47Speaker 3: It was fake Burt Reynolds maybe is I believe Jim Fravola,
- 13:54Speaker 3: the president of AFC Bournemouth of the Premier League and
- 13:58Speaker 3: perhaps the next athletic director at the University of Miami.
- 14:01Speaker 3: I believe fake Bert Reynolds.
- 14:05Speaker 2: It was Jim Frovola.
- 14:08Speaker 4: Hak explain the process real quick if you don't mind so.
- 14:12Speaker 4: Over the course of a year, you guys are just
- 14:14Speaker 4: like you're telling people Mark the tape. If you hear
- 14:17Speaker 4: a laugh, that is you know Sue worthy to you.
- 14:21Speaker 4: You're telling Mike or Billy at that time in two
- 14:23Speaker 4: thousand and seven, Hey, mark the tape.
- 14:25Speaker 2: That's a suiye nominee right there. It's like all fly
- 14:28Speaker 2: like that, right.
- 14:29Speaker 3: I would say it was probably it certainly wasn't Billy,
- 14:31Speaker 3: because I don't think I ever really worked with Billy.
- 14:33Speaker 3: It was either Mike or Andy King or me. It was,
- 14:37Speaker 3: you know, based on what you guys do now or
- 14:39Speaker 3: what Dan does now. Like I mean, it was a
- 14:41Speaker 3: skeleton staff. But that was the absurdity of the job,
- 14:46Speaker 3: because you know, I would sometimes think to myself, like,
- 14:49Speaker 3: do you think Hank Goldberg is having his producer mark
- 14:54Speaker 3: a funny laugh that just happened from a caller or something.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Not that there were many laughs on Hank Show, but.
- 14:59Speaker 3: Like, just like this little minutia, but for whatever reason,
- 15:04Speaker 3: we knew we could get something.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Out of it.
- 15:05Speaker 3: It was like, oh, Ted Dibyasi just gave us his
- 15:08Speaker 3: signature laugh mark, you know.
- 15:10Speaker 2: And then all of a sudden we're cutting up.
- 15:11Speaker 3: And then I get to the end of the year
- 15:12Speaker 3: and I'm looking at stuff by dates because we would
- 15:15Speaker 3: be very cautious when it came to the Suez. We
- 15:17Speaker 3: wanted it to be exactly the way that it was,
- 15:20Speaker 3: which was a calendar year. And yeah, I would look
- 15:23Speaker 3: back at all the stuff from that calendar year and
- 15:26Speaker 3: I'll go, yeah, this one's Suey worthy, that one's not
- 15:29Speaker 3: Suey worthy.
- 15:29Speaker 2: But that I mean, it was the absurdity of the job.
- 15:32Speaker 3: But that's what made I think the community around the
- 15:35Speaker 3: show grows so much, is that we would bring you
- 15:38Speaker 3: back to a moment that you probably laughed at four
- 15:41Speaker 3: months earlier, that you hadn't thought about for four months,
- 15:45Speaker 3: and then all of a sudden, there it is again.
- 15:46Speaker 4: Yes, I feel like the playmaker has the greatest laugh
- 15:50Speaker 4: in the history of laughs.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Though it's an infectious laugh, it really is. It's an
- 15:54Speaker 2: infectious laugh.
- 15:56Speaker 3: Yes, But even like it's the little snippets of stuff
- 15:59Speaker 3: where you realize the different phases we were going through.
- 16:03Speaker 2: We went through a Jimmy Superfly snook A phase. Oh yeah,
- 16:06Speaker 2: he was.
- 16:07Speaker 3: On the show several times in a quick succession. And
- 16:11Speaker 3: do you remember what ended up happening with him.
- 16:14Speaker 1: No.
- 16:15Speaker 3: He he ended up getting wrapped up in a murder charge,
- 16:20Speaker 3: and I believe he was accused of murdering a family
- 16:24Speaker 3: member and he ended up passing away I think before
- 16:30Speaker 3: he ever went to trial.
- 16:33Speaker 2: But to this day, I have Carol Snooka's phone number
- 16:38Speaker 2: in my Costack.
- 16:41Speaker 3: Wanted to reach out to his wife, I would generally
- 16:44Speaker 3: reach out to his wife when I wanted him to
- 16:46Speaker 3: come on the show. He didn't have he didn't have
- 16:48Speaker 3: all his marbles when he was coming on the show
- 16:51Speaker 3: with us, is probably why we were bringing him on
- 16:53Speaker 3: the show.
- 16:53Speaker 2: He used to jump off the top rope all the time.
- 16:56Speaker 2: He did the gods what was it? What was his
- 17:00Speaker 2: move called?
- 17:02Speaker 4: I forget well hold on? By the way, Rogan does
- 17:04Speaker 4: three to four episodes a week.
- 17:06Speaker 2: I look that up. I'm looking up to me.
- 17:08Speaker 3: Well, he get's like fifty million dollars though, so Fly splash, yeah,
- 17:12Speaker 3: this is that what it was?
- 17:13Speaker 2: The Superfly splash yeah, off the top road. Yes, he
- 17:17Speaker 2: was one of the best. Do you do you watch wrestling, Taylor?
- 17:21Speaker 1: I used to.
- 17:21Speaker 2: That's why I know Jimmy Superfly Snuoker.
- 17:24Speaker 3: I mean that's way before your time though, because I
- 17:26Speaker 3: don't watch wrestling now, but I remember, like, do you
- 17:29Speaker 3: remember like some of the regular wrestlers we had on.
- 17:32Speaker 3: We had Gene Oakland who was announcer, mean Gen Oakland
- 17:36Speaker 3: all the time. We had Jimmy Snook on all the time.
- 17:38Speaker 3: He had George the Animal Steel on all the time.
- 17:41Speaker 3: He has had on a bunch. We had Cocob ware
- 17:45Speaker 3: on a ones, Bobby the braidon, Heenan yeah, yes he was.
- 17:51Speaker 3: He was fairly regular. He passed away as well.
- 17:54Speaker 2: That's when wrestling was wrestling, my man man and they
- 17:56Speaker 2: all lived in Tampa. I still have all their phone
- 17:59Speaker 2: numbers in my book. Crazy.
- 18:04Speaker 4: All right, So we have to have a short witchtegots
- 18:08Speaker 4: at hawk today because we have a big time guest
- 18:10Speaker 4: waiting on the.
- 18:12Speaker 2: On the other show. So look at you. That's all right.
- 18:14Speaker 3: I think we say sheated our need with some laugh
- 18:17Speaker 3: some quick laughs, a couple of quick hitters.
- 18:19Speaker 2: We got go bad do it. We had the time
- 18:21Speaker 2: of our life. Yeah, three times. This was a quickie though, Cochman.
- 18:29Speaker 3: In fact, I'll only give you one nickname to get
