Transcript
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Good morning and welcome to Ag Squawk AM.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: Jed Sidwell here, live from Joliet, Illinois.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: Today on this fine Tuesday morning, we're going to be talking about some of the carryout in that WASD report, as well as drought in cattle country and an interesting headline about the safety of AI.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: We'll get to all of that and more here in a bit.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: The December contract was down 45 cents at 226.60.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: No feeder cattle were down 85 cents at 341.10.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: Lean hogs were up just a hair.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: They were up about 50 cents at 68.38.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: As I quote the grain markets here live, like to shout out our sponsor plus 500.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: We use plus 500 T4 trading software every single day.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: And as I look here live, man, corn is having a great morning.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: December corn is at four is at$4.84 even.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: Beans are coming back just a little bit after a hard correction last night at$12.83.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: And Chicago, December wheat is at$6.69 even.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: The weather is going to get a little interesting here the next couple of days.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: The rain begins tonight and runs through Thursday night, the heaviest across the southeastern plains and southwestern Corn Belt, with flood watching spread for post flood watching posted, excuse me, for parts of Kansas and Missouri.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: Good news is though, dry weather returns Friday through Tuesday for another harvest window, but a significant rain event will come right after that, October 21st through the 23rd.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: You know, we we've talked about the WASDI quite a bit here recently, but I feel like the big significant piece that I haven't talked about here on the morning show, of course, we have the increase in bushels there, but the US Day's record October corn yield increases sends the carry out to 1.849 billion bushels.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: That's the largest October carryout increase over the same span ever.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: That is that the next largest was 2011's 194 million.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: Big increase there.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: The livestock market, I got some good news I thought to pop up today.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: This is the cattle areas in drought.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: And I pop up this chart, you know, about once a month, once every two weeks or so.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: And this was pr a pretty grim outlook for most of the summer and early fall.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: But we're seeing this area we're seeing it improve.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: 52% of areas are in drought now.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: That's still not great, but it's better than we were.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: We're seeing relief in Nebraska and Kansas, even into Colorado.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: Parts of the Dakotas have seen some relief up there.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: Those things are great to see.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: Now it's maybe just a little bit too late to get too much winter feed, but man, it's hard to complain about rain.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: This was the breaking news headline that caught my eye this morning, and AI is just the wild, wild west right now.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: It's a new impressive technology that we just don't know near enough about.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: Anthropic, that's the company that owns Claude, warns AI models could soon copy themselves across home devices.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: Anthropic describes how A models could infiltrate internet connected devices and use their computing power to run themselves and spread to other devices.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: The AI model would be quote unquote challenging to shut down, Anthropic said in a blog post since there's no centralized point to shut it off.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: Anthropic's latest research adds to the growing safety concerns around AI.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: Now I I'm not going to put on my tinfoil hat and say that AI is evil because you know there are so many industries that use AI whether they're willing to admit it or not.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: And truly it is a way to be more efficient with less in difficult economic times right now.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: But we have to protect ourselves and future generations for what's to come with AI.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: This is the economic calendar for today.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: Since we didn't have anything yesterday, the existing home sales comes out at 9 a.m.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: Export inspections comes out an hour later at 10.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: And the crop progress comes after the close at 3 p.m.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: Central.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: Well, that's all I have for you guys today.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: Make sure and catch all of our premium shows that we're going to be having this week.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: We're going to be talking some amongst the Ag Bull team.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: I'm going to be talking to Mike Sands and Tom Leffler, not to mention this free stuff that we're putting out right now, I think is really great.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: I encourage you to go back and look at Friday's video, the WASD report video with Tommy and Davis.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: I thought it was truly excellent.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: Covered a lot of things that maybe weren't talked about about the report and the state of agriculture right now.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: And I encourage you to go subscribe at AgBull.com.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: It sounds like a lot, but it's less than Netflix, and you can truly, you know, better yourself and your business with one of these subscriptions.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: If you look right now, if you sign up for the full year, that's$250 a year, that's two months for free, we'll throw in an AgBull Media speaker as well.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: Well, thank you for watching and thank you for listening.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: I'm Jed Sidwell with Ag Bull Media.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: We're a financial channel that absolutely loves agriculture.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: I'll talk to you tomorrow.
