- 3:17Speaker 2: the qualifications to represent a state. Okay. So there's three
- 3:23Speaker 2: ways you can represent a state. One it can be
- 3:26Speaker 2: your birth state. Two, it can be the state that
- 3:31Speaker 2: your book has the origin in, or it can be
- 3:38Speaker 2: the book the state that you currently live in. So
- 3:42Speaker 2: those took three. Where you currently live, where you were born,
- 3:48Speaker 2: and your origin of your book. Okay, So now what
- 3:55Speaker 2: does that mean? You will get an article? Okay, you
- 3:59Speaker 2: will get interviewed by sc Bookyards and friends. You will
- 4:04Speaker 2: be interviewed by our producer, Angela Thomas Smith, known as
- 4:10Speaker 2: the Queen the Collaborations herself. Then you would have a
- 4:14Speaker 2: chance to get your own personal magazine cover with you
- 4:22Speaker 2: your book in your state. I mean, come on, you guys,
- 4:26Speaker 2: you can't beat that. Okay. So now there are some
- 4:30Speaker 2: states that have already been playing okay, South Carolina, New York, California,
- 4:40Speaker 2: I want to say Texas. But also, of course there
- 4:45Speaker 2: are going to be some states that nobody will claim,
- 4:49Speaker 2: so those states can be up for grats. So contact
- 4:54Speaker 2: us me Patrice Grimble, or you can contact Angela Thomas
- 4:58Speaker 2: Smith and we'll give you more information about out that. Okay. Also,
- 5:02Speaker 2: I am looking for four African American Black book creators
- 5:10Speaker 2: content creators at that I want to interview you guys.

- 5:20Speaker 2: looking for. You know, don't just give us any old anything.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Let me tell you what we're looking for. Okay. So
- 5:28Speaker 2: if you would like to be one of those authors,
- 5:31Speaker 2: make sure one of those black content creators. Make sure
- 5:35Speaker 2: you contact me Patrese Grimble on any of my social

- 5:43Speaker 2: you on the show and we can talk books. Okay,
- 5:47Speaker 2: sew you guys. I told y'all I had a new
- 5:50Speaker 2: author for you, right, So I have this new author.
- 5:56Speaker 2: She is so sweet. Her book is about faith, and
- 6:01Speaker 2: you go teach us our ABC's tonight. You can't beat that, right,
- 6:06Speaker 2: So I'm gonna bring up author shar Day Jones. Come
- 6:09Speaker 2: on up, girlie. I am great. I'm gonna bring you
- 6:15Speaker 2: up in one quick moment. Hey, how are you good?
- 6:26Speaker 2: How are you? I am doing great? So welcome to
- 6:31Speaker 2: Sci Bookouts and Friends. But before we go anything better,
- 6:38Speaker 2: you have to tell us a little about yourself. Yes.
- 6:42Speaker 3: Well, so I'm from small town and that's the Ohio.
- 6:48Speaker 3: It's a really fall So I'm a wife mother. I
- 6:55Speaker 3: started writing.
- 6:56Speaker 4: Well, you want you want to get to that right, get.
- 7:00Speaker 2: To the way girl. Okay.
- 7:02Speaker 3: So like back in the day, you know, when I
- 7:04Speaker 3: was in high school, I used to always just read books,
- 7:07Speaker 3: write home, and I always said I'm going to be
- 7:10Speaker 3: an author, and that's allowed me to do that.
- 7:14Speaker 4: Twenty fifteen, I published my first book.
- 7:17Speaker 2: So ah, so what was the title of your first book?
- 7:21Speaker 3: My first book was titled young Love, and that's just
- 7:26Speaker 3: what it was about, young love.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Okay, okay, So.
- 7:32Speaker 4: We got our first book, yeah, twenty fifteen. My second book,
- 7:39Speaker 4: did you said?
- 7:40Speaker 2: Fifteen?
- 7:41Speaker 3: Twenty fifteen, yes, ma'am, wow, yes.
- 7:46Speaker 2: Yes, okay, And so your second book, what is your
- 7:51Speaker 2: second book?
- 7:52Speaker 3: My second book is Chances that was published in twenty nineteen.
- 7:57Speaker 4: I'm kind of and I use the same characters and
- 8:01Speaker 4: it's just so it's like her as she grew up.
- 8:04Speaker 4: My same character.
- 8:05Speaker 3: Her name was Lukesha, So instead of the young love,
- 8:09Speaker 3: you know, she just really wanted that by with her
- 8:11Speaker 3: father and that's something that she allysongs for.
- 8:15Speaker 4: And then she met him one day because she grew
- 8:17Speaker 4: up without father.
- 8:19Speaker 3: So after she met her, then like he was in
- 8:22Speaker 3: her life and he wanted to do all things her
- 8:24Speaker 3: but then like he.
- 8:25Speaker 4: Was breaking her heart.
- 8:27Speaker 3: So she dealt with you know, psychologically she's dealt with something,
- 8:31Speaker 3: depressions and all that stuff in and out of her life.
- 8:34Speaker 4: But then it's also a beautiful love story as well.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Okay, so now we got young love and the older
- 8:43Speaker 2: love or chances. So now is what's sure? How many
- 8:52Speaker 2: books have you published?
- 8:54Speaker 4: Three?
- 8:55Speaker 3: This is my third book, A for Bit of Faith,
- 8:59Speaker 3: and that's my first children's books.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Okay, so we went from Love the Faith, from Young
- 9:08Speaker 2: Love the children's books. Yes, to explain that list.
- 9:15Speaker 3: So even as a so as an author, you know,
- 9:18Speaker 3: as we grow up, we we just we grow up
- 9:21Speaker 3: and you know, more mature. So now the Lord bless
- 9:25Speaker 3: me the Sunday school teacher and I work with children
- 9:30Speaker 3: and they're really my motivation. So I want to kind
- 9:33Speaker 3: of step into a new round.
- 9:37Speaker 2: I remember teacher Sunday School. Oh, these were.
- 9:45Speaker 4: So.
- 9:45Speaker 2: I used to go to this church called Full Gospel
- 9:48Speaker 2: Faith Tabernacle was right across street from my grandma's house.
- 9:51Speaker 2: And these were I want to say to three to five. Okay, yes,
- 9:57Speaker 2: it was called instant birth control. When you're in high school,
- 10:01Speaker 2: you're being around crazy Jesus. But I'm about to chop
- 10:05Speaker 2: you the neck of your eye, you know, Jesus. But
- 10:09Speaker 2: that's a big it's like literally two different worlds. So yeah,
- 10:17Speaker 2: were you able to use any of your techniques that
- 10:21Speaker 2: you use for your first book into the ABC's of Faith?
- 10:28Speaker 3: Well, actually so I think no, because, like I said,
- 10:33Speaker 3: I was, you know, young Love is kind of rated
- 10:35Speaker 3: R and then we go from rated A.
- 10:40Speaker 4: Children, so you know, I would say no. But the
- 10:44Speaker 4: thing is, it didn't take me wrong at all to
- 10:47Speaker 4: write it. I was just writing.
- 10:49Speaker 3: Because they were my motivation, my my my daughter she's five,
- 10:53Speaker 3: and that I have a son who's eighteen.
- 10:55Speaker 4: So they're my motivation too.
- 10:57Speaker 3: And my daughter she's still with so much joke and
- 11:00Speaker 3: I was like, you know what, I write a book
- 11:02Speaker 3: about that. Actually, but God had the plan form and
- 11:06Speaker 3: he was just like, oh, you gotta do this.
- 11:09Speaker 2: So now I see we have something in common because
- 11:14Speaker 2: you said you're so your five year old, I bet
- 11:17Speaker 2: you that's a girl. Yes, And your eighteen year old
- 11:22Speaker 2: is he your boy? Yes? He is girl. It's something
- 11:26Speaker 2: I have a twenty okay hold on now, a twenty
- 11:31Speaker 2: three year old son and a nine year old daughter.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Sidol oh, okay, I totally understand what. I know what
- 11:40Speaker 2: you're talking about. Yeah, yeah it's so.
- 11:45Speaker 4: Hey, look it just be like that. Things happen.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Hey it was Paul Mason. That's all I can say. Yeah,
- 11:53Speaker 2: you understand. So tell us a little bit about the A, B. C.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Of Faith. Tell us a little bit about children's book.
- 12:03Speaker 3: Okay, so the children's book, I'm gonna I'm gonna show
- 12:06Speaker 3: you alphabet of faith. So so so I'm gonna just
- 12:12Speaker 3: start with the cover. The cover is with children with
- 12:16Speaker 3: bit alike. Oh my son he has. So that was
- 12:18Speaker 3: really special to me and important to me. What's also
- 12:22Speaker 3: important to me, you know, teaching the children school, they're
- 12:27Speaker 3: learning scriptures.
- 12:29Speaker 4: Small scriptures.
- 12:30Speaker 3: So then sometimes when they go to school, kids are cruel,
- 12:33Speaker 3: you know, people like you're being bullied or just you know,
- 12:39Speaker 3: just getting talked about. So I wanted them to know
- 12:42Speaker 3: who God says you walk. So God said you're this,
- 12:46Speaker 3: God said you're that. So that's where the alphabetic faiths
- 12:49Speaker 3: come in. So I am anointed, I am black. But
- 12:53Speaker 3: it also has a Bible verse a scripture to go
- 12:57Speaker 3: as well, and it's a first of a scripture to
- 13:02Speaker 3: each letter of the outfit, so no efforts to that
- 13:06Speaker 3: go back and reference. See this is what God said
- 13:09Speaker 3: you want. So you listen to this. You don't listen
- 13:11Speaker 3: to the people at school.
- 13:12Speaker 2: You know. Now that is awesome because it's it's it's
- 13:17Speaker 2: an information. So I mean you could actually literally teach
- 13:22Speaker 2: a child the word of God and teach them an affirmation.
- 13:27Speaker 2: And if if you're like me, you deal, well, I
- 13:30Speaker 2: try to try to try to do one thing a week,
- 13:36Speaker 2: and that would be crazy. So you have a critic
- 13:42Speaker 2: in your house. What does she say about mommy's book?
- 13:46Speaker 3: She loves it, actually, she So I have one scripture
- 13:51Speaker 3: that she knows by heart. Well, she knows a few
- 13:53Speaker 3: by heart, but we call that the ten Fingerprisers. I
- 13:58Speaker 3: can do all things the Christ strengthens me. She loves that.
- 14:02Speaker 3: Then it's a girl she stands with her superhero. Okay,
- 14:06Speaker 3: so and that's letting her know I can do all
- 14:09Speaker 3: things through Christ, who strengthens me.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Oh that's so sweet doing your mom That is sweet.
- 14:21Speaker 2: So who would be your id?
- 14:25Speaker 1: Rudom?
- 14:26Speaker 2: We know their kids of course, But is there a
- 14:29Speaker 2: target child that you're looking for? No?
- 14:34Speaker 3: Look, and it's not been directed towards children. Yeah, it's
- 14:38Speaker 3: a children's book, but it's not only towards children because
- 14:42Speaker 3: you know, we as adult.
- 14:44Speaker 4: When we go to work, there's.
- 14:45Speaker 3: Some people who are streak up, you know, or even
- 14:49Speaker 3: us sometimes we look at other people and say, oh,
- 14:52Speaker 3: I don't have what they got, or we get we
- 14:54Speaker 3: get jealous of somebody else's blessing, got the calls to
- 14:58Speaker 3: do that. Why are we getting jealous of they're blessing?
- 15:01Speaker 3: God bless them, He can bless you as well. So
- 15:04Speaker 3: I don't think I.
- 15:05Speaker 4: Really have a target. But you know, it's for children,
- 15:09Speaker 4: but I think it's for a doctor life too.
- 15:13Speaker 2: Now that's great, that's great. And then the reason why
- 15:16Speaker 2: I say that's great is because I think we as adults,
- 15:21Speaker 2: we kind of forget the little things, the little lessons
- 15:24Speaker 2: in life. We always look for this big grand gesture. Wow.
- 15:30Speaker 2: And I am literally telling them myself right now, it's
- 15:33Speaker 2: the little things that matter. Yes, I hear you, and
- 15:38Speaker 2: and I'm hearing you in my ears. Yeah, it's the
- 15:42Speaker 2: little things that matter. So what else are you looking
- 15:48Speaker 2: to to to make aware? Within this book? Is there
- 15:58Speaker 2: any type of awareness that you're trying to do? And
- 16:00Speaker 2: then you're giving us how afromin shance, You're you're speaking
- 16:05Speaker 2: life in us, You're speaking life into the kids. You're
- 16:09Speaker 2: helping us learn many scriptures that we could take along
- 16:13Speaker 2: the day, because hey, everybody don't know John three and sixteen,
- 16:18Speaker 2: but I bet they know Jesus weft, you know what
- 16:20Speaker 2: I'm saying. So, so what other message are you trying
- 16:26Speaker 2: to bring through with your book?
- 16:28Speaker 3: You know, I want I want them to be encouraged
- 16:31Speaker 3: and love one another. You know, I have a lot
- 16:34Speaker 3: of African American children, but there's some, you know, just
- 16:37Speaker 3: all people of color. You know, I want it's not
- 16:41Speaker 3: just about black or white. It's awful all kids.
- 16:45Speaker 4: You know.
- 16:45Speaker 3: I want them to leave reading that book feeling encouraged,
- 16:49Speaker 3: feeling like I can't you know, I can't do all
- 16:51Speaker 3: things through Christ, who strengthens me. You know, like that
- 16:55Speaker 3: says I'm miss that's amazing. And then just dwell on that,
- 17:00Speaker 3: dwell on what God says you are all the other negativity.
- 17:05Speaker 4: That's what I want.
- 17:08Speaker 2: That is awesome. That is so awesome. So I'm about
- 17:12Speaker 2: to put you on the spot. Which one is your
- 17:15Speaker 2: favorite letter?
- 17:18Speaker 3: I'll say, uh no, I really didn't think about that.
- 17:25Speaker 3: One of my favorite letters, but maybe prayerful because.
- 17:31Speaker 4: You know, sometimes.
- 17:34Speaker 3: It's a lot of stuff going on, especially in the
- 17:36Speaker 3: world today, so it's dark, you know, the president tripping,
- 17:41Speaker 3: so it's just a lot of things going on, and
- 17:43Speaker 3: I say, we just need to be more prayerful, so.
- 17:47Speaker 4: We got it back.
- 17:49Speaker 3: Yeah, that's probably my favorite. And then it's a young lady.
- 17:53Speaker 3: The illustration is a young lady. She's just sitting there.
- 17:56Speaker 3: She just prays, you know, and it's real. It's just beautiful.
- 18:02Speaker 2: So let's talk about your illustrations and how Okay, so
- 18:09Speaker 2: the illustrations came from as meta from She's amazing.
- 18:15Speaker 4: So you know, actually I would have wanted an African American,
- 18:20Speaker 4: you know, to do the.
- 18:21Speaker 3: Illustrations because I just feel like we should get all together.
- 18:25Speaker 3: But it's like it doesn't always go like that. So
- 18:29Speaker 3: I found her on this website and I just love
- 18:33Speaker 3: her work.
- 18:33Speaker 2: She was amazing.
- 18:35Speaker 4: It was just like everything I wanted and she delivered.
- 18:38Speaker 4: She did she did her thing with it, so I'm
- 18:41Speaker 4: real happy with it too.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Okay, now that's what's up. Shouts out to you, miss illustrator.
- 18:48Speaker 2: So how are you marketing your book? Are you going
- 18:54Speaker 2: to schools, are you going to churches? Are you going
- 18:57Speaker 2: to fair this book signing? How do you plan on marketing?
- 19:03Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 19:03Speaker 3: So of course word of mouth. I think that's the biggest.
- 19:06Speaker 3: I mean the Internet is the biggest, but also a
- 19:08Speaker 3: word about because people got big mouth, because people can talk.
- 19:12Speaker 3: But yeah, I'm going to do signing at my church
- 19:17Speaker 3: March March third. I'm going to do a signing there.
- 19:20Speaker 3: That still kind of work out some king I work.
- 19:23Speaker 3: I do work also as a school and so I'm
- 19:26Speaker 3: going to be speaking there. They don't quite have the date,
- 19:29Speaker 3: but I'm speaking there to the children as well.
- 19:33Speaker 2: That is great. That is awesome. I mean a lot
- 19:38Speaker 2: of a lot of individuals do not market their books.
- 19:45Speaker 2: They write the book and say, okay, I've written it,
- 19:48Speaker 2: that's it. But the fact that you're reaching out and
- 19:51Speaker 2: you're going to your your workplace, which is school, your church,
- 19:56Speaker 2: that is absolutely awesome. So what made you want to
- 20:05Speaker 2: become a writer.
- 20:10Speaker 3: Back back in the day when I was back in
- 20:13Speaker 3: the day.
- 20:14Speaker 2: Now, see I'm weird like that.
- 20:17Speaker 3: I just be thinking about stuff you do.
- 20:23Speaker 4: But yeah, so when you know, when I was in school,
- 20:26Speaker 4: I used to just love reading and write.
- 20:28Speaker 3: I will write home like all the time, and I'll
- 20:32Speaker 3: look at this person and I'll write home about this person,
- 20:35Speaker 3: or I'll write it home about you know, how I feeling.
- 20:38Speaker 3: And then I just I don't know. I love to
- 20:40Speaker 3: read him write, and I said, I'd be a writer.
- 20:44Speaker 3: You know, I'm gonna be an author. And like I said,
- 20:47Speaker 3: I allowed to do that in twenty fifteen.
- 20:51Speaker 2: So and look at you now, okay, God, so and
- 21:00Speaker 2: I know I sent you some questions, but then I
- 21:04Speaker 2: also didn't say these some questions. So on my show,
- 21:08Speaker 2: we usually do these off the wall questions. All right, now,
- 21:15Speaker 2: she said she wouldn't.
- 21:15Speaker 4: Okay, let's go.
- 21:18Speaker 2: If you can collaborate with any hmm. So, because that
- 21:24Speaker 2: book is about faith, if you can collaborate with any
- 21:29Speaker 2: black history, not of course African American gospel artists, who
- 21:35Speaker 2: would it be? And why.
- 21:39Speaker 4: What you hit me with that? I was thinking, you're
- 21:42Speaker 4: gonna say an author?
- 21:43Speaker 2: You just I wasn't going to stay off that first.
- 21:47Speaker 2: And I was like, nah, that's too easy.
- 21:49Speaker 3: Because I listen, I had it in my head already
- 21:51Speaker 3: who I was gonna say, but not gospel.
- 21:56Speaker 4: MJ.
- 21:57Speaker 2: I love him.
- 21:57Speaker 3: Pastor myke Junior, that's my dog. Listen, I met him
- 22:01Speaker 3: one time. I was so hyped.
- 22:03Speaker 2: But okay, so Pastor, what would be the title? Oh
- 22:14Speaker 2: mm hmmm.
- 22:17Speaker 4: Oh my goodness the title, and we won.
- 22:23Speaker 3: I don't know, like listen, I don't know, yeah, probably
- 22:29Speaker 3: something like we won or were here listen, we're here,
- 22:33Speaker 3: all right to be here?
- 22:35Speaker 4: We're here.
- 22:37Speaker 2: So let's take in another spin. If you can have
- 22:43Speaker 2: any any African American preacher Narry your first book, young Love,
- 22:53Speaker 2: who would it be.
- 22:59Speaker 4: Now? Please?
- 23:00Speaker 2: Because I can't see now.
- 23:04Speaker 4: I don't want this to be like a god person.
- 23:07Speaker 3: Probably and this is different too because I you know,
- 23:11Speaker 3: I'll probably say Monique because the way the word, yeah,
- 23:15Speaker 3: the way it's word, she could deliver.
- 23:18Speaker 2: Okay, So what which money? There's this big money? Who
- 23:23Speaker 2: was funny? Then we got many money? Who was more serious?
- 23:28Speaker 2: Many money?
- 23:29Speaker 3: Probably because she many many?
- 23:34Speaker 2: Yeah, don't she will put you in your please and
- 23:38Speaker 2: then turn around ask you are you okay? After it? Okay?
- 23:43Speaker 2: So if you can have anybody to put music to
- 23:49Speaker 2: your book, let's take it out. What genre would you
