Transcript
- 0:00My name's Luke Carrolla. I play guitar and singing. Nation Brady he's a
- 0:08bass player, and Josh Brooks is the drummer powertru rock band I guess,
- 0:15harkening back to the ninety grungs with metallic metal sort of style riffs. M
- 0:23Rock Beats Depression is actually something that we were asked to do last year.
- 0:27We were fortunate enough to get a foot in the door and get into it
- 0:31and to be asked back again. It's pretty it's a big thing because we
- 0:35love what it stands for and Katie's amazing, like totally and there's so many
- 0:43awesome bands on it again this year, so it's going to be great.
- 0:47Indeed, it is made thanks for joining us today, leg Yeah, no
- 0:50worries man Ruination one. I want a many bands for forming at Rock Beats
- 0:56Depression that Mansfield tabin on September sixteenth. So well, what does play and
- 1:00it's something id This actually meant you guys a lot, because not only do
- 1:04we get to travel away for the night and you know, play off well
- 1:11yeah you know, within reason, I guess, but we get to play
- 1:15and share the stage with so many awesome bands. Um and the rock beats
- 1:22depression as a whole as how is it's a pretty big for us um ovis
- 1:29Lee you know, the dealings with it, and we've have friends deal with
- 1:37I guess you know, not that sort of depression and anxiety and all the
- 1:42rest of it. I just I just think it's an amazing cause, great
- 1:47bands, great venue, and we're always we're always treated like I mean,
- 1:52we're always treated so well there, so it's good good great reception you know,
- 1:57means a lot. And you mentioned the last year is a great light
- 2:00up spearheaded by Dream Colors, Black Whiskey, a Flyer, There's Tale Made,
- 2:06Rejects, Craven More Made. But are you both looking forward to playing
- 2:08with it? Why? Honestly, I'm really I can't really say any one
- 2:15band in particular, like there's there's you know, like I think, is
- 2:20it Seven Enemies. We played with them at the Tribe club House and they're
- 2:25pretty phenomenal. Um I mean, dream Killers, for goodness sake, going
- 2:31I was a kid that grew up in the nineties. I know who they
- 2:34are. So that's that's going to be a mind blown young fanboy moment for
- 2:39me. But I mean, it's it's I just can't pinpoint any one band
- 2:44in particular, because I mean there's gut a Fire, Taylor Made rejects,
- 2:47as you just said, I mean, the list goes on and on.
- 2:52You know, it's it's going to be an epic night, epic night.
- 2:58Of course, we've got a touch on this. As much fun as the
- 3:00day is going to be, there's also a more serious side to it.
- 3:02As an a rock Beast depressions the jets, how important, how important our
- 3:07events like this when it comes to helping those with mental illnesses and all depression.
- 3:12To us, it's a it's a pretty big deal, Chris, because
- 3:15you know, without going too far into it, I mean we we've all
- 3:20everybody, we've all been affected by someone or some form ourselves and we've actually
- 3:28ourselves up here lost a couple of musician friends in the last twelve months due
- 3:35to the Black Dog, and man, if we can, we can provide
- 3:40our services and raise money toward that. That's how you've done, you know.
- 3:49And I say, like the depression something that affects a lot of a
- 3:53lot of musos as well. Like I know, in my role, I
- 3:55speak a lot of international and national musos of the some of the biggest artists
- 4:00see the world suffer from depression. Like not that you think they would do,
- 4:02but like people look at mesos and see them up on stage, you'd
- 4:08being extroverted. But that doesn't necessarily mean that everything's going to look for them
- 4:13exactly. And you're rod on there man, like absolutely. I think that's
- 4:19why we as. I mean, you've got your normal life, which is
- 4:25your your daily nine to five grind, and then you've got your music gigging.
- 4:29In the last like two years since ruination has been a thing, I've
- 4:32met some of my best dearest friends in the scene, whether it's Brisbane,
- 4:39Bunderberg, you know, like here, Harvey Bay, like wherever. And
- 4:46I think it's because there, as you just said, there is that I'm
- 4:48spoken, you know, there's that. We all rapple with it, and
- 4:54that's why we do what we do. I guess it's to get the the
- 4:58nasty out and some people unfortunately don't have that. We're lucky. We're lucky
- 5:04in a way we can get up there and scream and have distorted guitars and
- 5:10heavy riffs and have people pick up on the energy. And that's that's what
- 5:15the forty minutes on stage makes all that go away. So if I can,
- 5:18I mean not myself personally, but if we can help people feel like
- 5:25that and raise a bit of money while we're doing it, how awesome.
- 5:30My age, brother, my age. So what what message would you hope
- 5:34if people take out of a day like this? Well, look, I
- 5:40would myself personally because obviously we're going to be there as supporters as well as
- 5:46on stage. So I think to take away just I'll be number one,
- 5:51the amazing I mean, Katie, she's put it all, put it together
- 5:57like you guys, all the is all the other bands, take away back
- 6:01that go away from the day. You've seen all these local musicians who we're
- 6:09all the same, all in this together. We're all the same, and
- 6:13as you said earlier with your national acts, like we put on a brave
- 6:16face, but we're all you know. To take away from the day,
- 6:21I guess would be just a day of coming together having fun. You know,
- 6:29That's I guess all I can think of. And another good thing about
- 6:34days all this, of course, is your variety of bands that play.
- 6:38Like the bands there, the people haven't heard before, So just say someone
- 6:43there they're unfamiliar with ormination mate. Tell us a bit about the band.
- 6:46Well, look, we're we're a power trio. We're a three piece,
- 6:51we're a hard rock band. We go back to I guess a lot of
- 6:58I mean, we got diverse, like such diverse tastes as musicians. But
- 7:03I guess you could say we're grungy, but with the we got like metallic
- 7:09rips over the top of it. And we're a bit of a live entity
- 7:15on stage, like a bit of a thrashing mad act. Not that I
- 7:18can ever remember any of it because it goes too quick. Man. It's
- 7:23just like as I said before, it's just that it's it's like that drug.
- 7:27You get up there and you're for the forty minutes and it's just gone,
- 7:32and it's just like wow, that was like it was like a cleansing
- 7:36of the soul. So I guess that's what people they're gonna They're going to
- 7:40get a pretty um yeah, and we're a bit of a I guess we'll
- 7:46like to have the audience in on the as if they're actually up on the
- 7:48stage with this like a bit of banter, a bit of comedy maybe depending
- 7:55on how many how many schoolies have been put down before. And that's Brooksly
- 8:01the drummer. Though he's the he's the schooy king all drums made. Drummers
- 8:07are just piss recks machine man. Yeah, Like, I mean, I'm
- 8:11kind of a bit of a good boy. I behave myself until I've played.
- 8:16But I think we're on like pretty late, so I'm gonna probably maybe
- 8:18have one or two strengths, in mean, just to take the nerves away,
- 8:22because you got the nerves, but they're good nerves, you know,
- 8:26because we haven't haven't had bought and chairs, tables thrown at us yet,
- 8:30so I don't think that bad. Probably won't start advance to it either because
- 8:33it's the fucking ice stage. Yea, they're not gonna be able to throw
- 8:35them that it's beautiful like because last year, I believe Chris, they had
- 8:41the other was it the function room and we played in there and we went
- 8:46in and watched I think it was Hammers. I can't remember if piston Fists
- 8:50played last year, can't no, Actually, sorry, I saw them at
- 8:56the back room. We played the back room the brew Fest production. Sorry,
- 9:01I got those two mixed up for a minute. Um and yeah,
- 9:03we I remember going in those two stages and stuff like, and it was
- 9:07amazing in there, like so cool. Look and I've actually never been there
- 9:11before until last year. Great, Oh it's it's definitely one of the best.
- 9:18But you guys down there and got so many awesome venues, like so
- 9:22many awesome venues. Like I'm a big fan of the Tribe club House and
- 9:28King Lee has Throne, Like yeah, what those guys are doing too,
- 9:31you know, like they've got a cool message as well, But I mean,
- 9:37yeah, probably all happening. It. Guys are in the process of
- 9:45recording a four track EP, mate, so tell us a bit more about
- 9:48that. That is actually Christa on actually this Saturday Sunday we venture to the
- 9:54studio. It's it's basically it's like, um, it's more of a teaser
- 10:01towards which I really want to put out an album after this. We've got
- 10:07it. We've got more than enough material. And it just every time we
- 10:11jam and write, things just come together so easily. It's not like pulling
- 10:13teeth. It just it just comes together. But this four track EPs,
- 10:20well it's actually four but I'm possibly going to chat to the lads about we've
- 10:24got another tune that are to be a fifth five song EP. I'd like
- 10:28to put a fifth song on it, but it's it's pretty much. It's
- 10:33it's us. It's just a more I guess because the songs on our first
- 10:39epre in world before there was ever a band, and then when we came
- 10:43together, we we wrote the songs and we got the songs together. But
- 10:48this time we've we've played live more too, and we've played we'd like to
- 10:52play. Like most bands, we play test our new songs on live audiences,
- 10:56and I think this this new EP is going to be pretty cool.
- 11:01Man. It's chronically it's it's no, it's not different. It's going to
- 11:05be like obviously, spend a little bit more time on it because we've built
- 11:11the kiddie up from playing live shows and stuff, so we've got a little
- 11:13bit more money to throw at it. But it's it's gonna for fans of
- 11:16the first EP and people who like us. They're going to pretty much get
- 11:20the live version of us recorded. So it's going to be cool and you're
- 11:24going to be able to write any of them at a rock beat depression.
- 11:26Any new ones, Oh, definitely, man, definitely, we'll be debuting
- 11:31some some newer tunes. So those of you out there that have heard us
- 11:33and familiar with us, you'll be hearing some new stuff. So yeah,
- 11:39absolutely for the for the rock Beats Depression crew man awesomely well, thanks very
- 11:43much for your time to man being a pressure chat with your rock beast.
- 11:46Depression is only the Mansfield Tabot on September sixteen kickets are through Ostis and likely
- 11:52say. She's for a great cause. So even if you don't like music,
- 11:54get down there and just show your face. Get on it. It's
- 11:58awesome, a great great gradients and I'll be there, made, I'll be
- 12:05there. We'll catch up and we'll over one of those sneaky beers before you
- 12:07get up there, I think so, man, I'll give you a T
- 12:11shirt and some stickers too. Over there and allowing me to do that,
- 12:15I make sure you get one, all right. I'll come up and I'll
- 12:16introduce myself and shake your hand and suits together there. Thanks very much,
- 12:20Chris, I look forward to that, dude,
