- 3:15Speaker 2: Tell you about an event that's happening in Saint Albans.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Starts a Thursday and we'll run through Monday. They call
- 3:22Speaker 2: it the Moving Wall. Jerry mollaghan is the commander of
- 3:25Speaker 2: VFW POS sixty four eighteen. He joins us this morning
- 3:28Speaker 2: in the Jery Construction Studios. Push this button here, Jered.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Good morning, Jerry, good morning, and welcome to the show.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Good morning, So tell us about this wall.
- 3:37Speaker 4: The Moving Wall is a half scale replica of the
- 3:41Speaker 4: Vietnam Vetters Memorial in and Wasshington DCEE. It'll be arriving
- 3:47Speaker 4: on Thursday morning around nine a nine am and we'll
- 3:52Speaker 4: have it ready for viewing by about about noon or so.
- 3:57Speaker 4: It's the Vietnam Vetters Memorial in War d C. Is
- 4:01Speaker 4: the most visited war memorial in Washington, d C. And
- 4:07Speaker 4: a lot of folks don't get a chance to visit
- 4:11Speaker 4: the one in d C. So the moving wall was
- 4:16Speaker 4: put together in nineteen eighty four for the purpose of
- 4:21Speaker 4: providing a half scale replica of the Vietnam Vetters Memorial.
- 4:28Speaker 4: And it's about two hundred and fifty feet long, about
- 4:34Speaker 4: ten foot at the high point in the middle, and
- 4:36Speaker 4: then it slopes down on both wings of the wall
- 4:41Speaker 4: to a couple of feet on the ends of it.
- 4:46Speaker 4: It's not been in the area for a very long time.
- 4:49Speaker 4: As a matter of fact, I can't remember the last
- 4:52Speaker 4: place it was in West Virginia, but anyway, it's been
- 4:56Speaker 4: torn the country since nineteen eighty four. It's coming to
- 5:02Speaker 4: us from a VFW post in North Carolina, and they'll
- 5:07Speaker 4: be in town tomorrow night and then they'll bring the
- 5:16Speaker 4: wall to the Saint Albans Shopping Center in right between
- 5:21Speaker 4: the City Hall and the Kroger's and in the old
- 5:27Speaker 4: Kmart parking lot, which is part of the old Saint
- 5:31Speaker 4: Albans Mall and shopping center. I said, we'll be it'll
- 5:35Speaker 4: be ready for viewing. It's beginning at noon on Thursday.
- 5:40Speaker 4: We'll be having a opening ceremony on Saturdays beginning at
- 5:45Speaker 4: eleven am and everyone's welcome. There's a connection to the
- 5:54Speaker 4: Vietnam War, of course, by just a lot of West
- 5:57Speaker 4: Virginia folks. So we're bringing it here for the community,
- 6:01Speaker 4: and I'd like to invite everyone to come on out
- 6:04Speaker 4: and be a part of the experience.
- 6:08Speaker 2: I don't I'm like you, Jerry, I don't know the
- 6:10Speaker 2: last time it was in West Virginia. Maybe one of
- 6:12Speaker 2: our listeners know, but I do know, and I'm gonna
- 6:15Speaker 2: just take a guestimate here about twenty years ago. I
- 6:20Speaker 2: can recall it coming to Logan, which is where I'm from,
- 6:24Speaker 2: and I was on the radio down there at that time,
- 6:26Speaker 2: and I do remember it came to the Fountain Place,
- 6:27Speaker 2: Small and Logan. That may have been back since then. And
- 6:30Speaker 2: I'm going to guess somewhere between fifteen to twenty years
- 6:32Speaker 2: ago it was there, But like I said, it could
- 6:34Speaker 2: have been back there since then. What does it mean
- 6:36Speaker 2: to have this wall comes in Syrium.
- 6:39Speaker 4: There's three hundred and eighty eight West Virginians on the wall,
- 6:47Speaker 4: and of course there's over fifty eight thousand total ambs
- 6:52Speaker 4: on the on the wall, and there's just a lot
- 6:59Speaker 4: of family and friends that are connected to those uh
- 7:05Speaker 4: service people that are that are on the wall. It's
- 7:08Speaker 4: the like I said, the most visited war memorial in Washington, DC.
- 7:14Speaker 4: And you can go online to the the Movingwall dot
- 7:19Speaker 4: r G for the for the details of the Moving Wall.
- 7:24Speaker 4: There's another website called Faces of the Wall. Just just
- 7:29Speaker 4: do a search of Faces on the Wall and it
- 7:33Speaker 4: lists it's got a picture of every service member and
- 7:38Speaker 4: some details about them. Ah and it's all the Faces
- 7:44Speaker 4: on the Wall. Also has a location of of what
- 7:47Speaker 4: panels their name is on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. But
- 7:54Speaker 4: it's uh, just a lot of folks in West Virginia
- 8:02Speaker 4: that are have a personal connection to the war memorial itself.
- 8:09Speaker 4: So it's going to be here for those folks and
- 8:13Speaker 4: for other folks and for educational purposes also well.
- 8:17Speaker 2: And it would be I think great for people to
- 8:19Speaker 2: come out and see this because, as you said, it's
- 8:21Speaker 2: not every day that you see something like that, and
- 8:23Speaker 2: let's face the Jerry, a lot of folks may not
- 8:25Speaker 2: make it the DC to see that in that particular memorial.
- 8:28Speaker 2: And it's coming to the area and you've got plenty
- 8:29Speaker 2: of opportunities because it's going to start on Thursdays. You
- 8:32Speaker 2: said there's going to be opening ceremonies, I think, or
- 8:34Speaker 2: they're gonna have ceremonies just to say on Saturday. And
- 8:37Speaker 2: it's going to be there through Monday, right, And it's
- 8:39Speaker 2: open twenty four Sat. Four hours, and there'll be security
- 8:42Speaker 2: there and whatever, so people keep an eye on it.
- 8:45Speaker 2: So it's a great opportunity. What do you think that
- 8:48Speaker 2: people Jerry need to know or can learn from visiting
- 8:53Speaker 2: this wall or from the Vietnam War in general.
- 8:55Speaker 4: Well, the sacrifices of that the country has made in
- 9:05Speaker 4: all wars is is is uh uh a high priority
- 9:13Speaker 4: for our obligation to to recognize the.
- 9:22Speaker 2: The price of.
- 9:25Speaker 4: Freedom, uh is what it boils down to, h. We're
- 9:31Speaker 4: not able to exercise the rights that we have ah
- 9:39Speaker 4: automatically or she not. You shouldn't feel that you have
- 9:47Speaker 4: these rights just because you're a citizen of the United States.
- 9:53Speaker 4: But there's just millions of service people that have sacrificed
- 9:57Speaker 4: their lives for you to live in a country that's
- 10:08Speaker 4: it's the freest country in the world, of course.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Yeah. Well again, it's going to be at the former
- 10:14Speaker 2: Kmart location in Saint Albans, open twenty four to seven
- 10:17Speaker 2: will start Thursday and run through next Monday. So we
- 10:20Speaker 2: urge everybody to go either no charge or anything like that,
- 10:23Speaker 2: just go out and just kind of take it all
- 10:25Speaker 2: in right.
- 10:26Speaker 4: There's no it's it's it's there's no charge at all.
- 10:30Speaker 4: And uh we're bringing it here for the public to
- 10:38Speaker 4: visit and UH ask questions to research, to learn about
- 10:46Speaker 4: the names the service members on the wall, and uh
- 10:54Speaker 4: the people that are have a connection to the names
- 10:59Speaker 4: on the wall. We're bringing it here for you and
- 11:05Speaker 4: we'd like for you to take advantage of this opportunity.
- 11:08Speaker 4: It's it's it's not going to be uh in the
- 11:13Speaker 4: area again.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Who knows how long it'll be for a long time,
- 11:17Speaker 2: I don't think.
- 11:18Speaker 4: And then then you don't get a chance to go
- 11:20Speaker 4: to Washington, DC and.
- 11:21Speaker 2: This is coming to you and and bring the young
- 11:24Speaker 2: people out there as well, because they need to learn
- 11:25Speaker 2: the experience. Jerry, we got to leave it there, Jerry Milihan,
- 11:28Speaker 2: the commander of the VFWOS sixty four eighteen, appreciate you
- 11:31Speaker 2: being here, my friend. Thanks a lot. Okay, thank you,

- 14:30Speaker 2: Birds going to join us. Coming up a little bit
- 14:32Speaker 2: later on in the show. The new Kroger is set
- 14:34Speaker 2: to open tomorrow in South Charleston. James Maneese is the
- 14:36Speaker 2: head of Communications now public Affairs for Kroger mid Atlantic,
- 14:40Speaker 2: and he joins us now, good after, good morning. I
- 14:43Speaker 2: never know what day it is because I do two
- 14:44Speaker 2: shows or what time it is, so good morning, James,
- 14:46Speaker 2: Welcome to the show.
- 14:47Speaker 7: Hey, good morning, Dave. How are you.
- 14:49Speaker 2: I'm doing fine. It grateful to have you here. So
- 14:51Speaker 2: it officially opens tomorrow, but there's gonna be a little
- 14:55Speaker 2: bit of a sneak preview, I think for the media today,
- 14:57Speaker 2: we've heard a lot of hype about the story. You've
- 14:59Speaker 2: been on the show talking about it. Tell us about
- 15:01Speaker 2: this big stores you're getting set to open tomorrow morning
- 15:03Speaker 2: at eight am.
- 15:05Speaker 7: Yes, that's right. We've got a ribbon cutting ceremony tomorrow
- 15:08Speaker 7: at seven point thirty and doors will open at eight am.
- 15:12Speaker 7: It's certainly an exciting time for Kroger. It's the first
- 15:15Speaker 7: marketplace in the state of West Virginia, and you know,
- 15:19Speaker 7: we've been working at it for quite a while. I
- 15:21Speaker 7: know a lot of people have driven by and seeing
- 15:24Speaker 7: this site and development, and tomorrow is when it officially opened,
- 15:27Speaker 7: So we're really looking forward to it and welcoming the
- 15:30Speaker 7: community too. It really is the best that Kroger has
- 15:32Speaker 7: to offer. It's a big store about one hundred and
- 15:34Speaker 7: twenty two thousand square feet, has everything you need. It's
- 15:38Speaker 7: a one stop destination. It really is much more than
- 15:40Speaker 7: just a grocery store. So we're really looking forward to it.
- 15:43Speaker 2: And you talk about it being a marketplace in the
- 15:45Speaker 2: first of its kind of West Virginia. You say, much
- 15:48Speaker 2: more than a grocery store. What do we have besides
- 15:51Speaker 2: cereals and lettuces and whatnot.
- 15:56Speaker 7: Well, you'll have all your traditional grocery items, you'll have
- 15:58Speaker 7: a lot more of them. The selection is significant. We
- 16:02Speaker 7: have home goods and apparel. That's something different that the
- 16:06Speaker 7: marketplace offers. We obviously have the pharmacy with it drive through,
- 16:09Speaker 7: we have pickup services, Murray's Cheese, and there's a giant
- 16:13Speaker 7: sushi destination. So all the sushi lovers out there will
- 16:16Speaker 7: find all the sushi that they could possibly want to
- 16:18Speaker 7: have at this Kroger marketplace.
- 16:20Speaker 2: And I am one of those sushi lovers and cheese
- 16:22Speaker 2: lovers as well, And I could tell you if it's
- 16:23Speaker 2: anything like this, I live in tays Valley, James, and
- 16:26Speaker 2: if it's anything like the Kroger there, I know this
- 16:28Speaker 2: one's going to be quite a bit bigger. But if
- 16:30Speaker 2: it's anything like the selection of sushi and the cheese
- 16:32Speaker 2: as you have in the Tase Valley store, sign me up.
- 16:35Speaker 7: It's going to be an amazing store. Interesting facts. Kroger
- 16:38Speaker 7: is the largest seller of sushi in the country.
- 16:40Speaker 2: No, really, we must love our sushi whole.
- 16:44Speaker 8: Lot of it.
- 16:44Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 16:45Speaker 7: Yeah, West Virginians love sushi, and the store team's really
- 16:48Speaker 7: excited to open the doors and really just have customers
- 16:51Speaker 7: come in and see the beautiful, brand new store. It
- 16:54Speaker 7: really is something to behold.
- 16:55Speaker 2: How many people approximately are going to be employed by
- 16:58Speaker 2: this store when it's up and running, well, of course
- 17:00Speaker 2: it opens tomorrow morning, but approximately how many people will
- 17:02Speaker 2: be employed there?
- 17:04Speaker 7: Three hundred and seven is three hundred and seven associates
- 17:07Speaker 7: at that the new Marketplace store. So it's a big
- 17:10Speaker 7: team and they're really proud of what we're going to offer.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Three hundred of ants a lot. That's a lot of people.
- 17:15Speaker 2: And I'm presuming the hiring process is continuing because you can,
- 17:18Speaker 2: I guess you just go online if somebody wants information
- 17:20Speaker 2: about a job there.
- 17:21Speaker 7: That's correct Kroger dot com. There are positions available, and
- 17:25Speaker 7: certainly appreciate you sharing that.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Yeah, And of course the story is going to open
- 17:30Speaker 2: tomorrow morning, and it's the first of it's kind of
- 17:33Speaker 2: West Virginia. I'm just kind of curious, are there others
- 17:35Speaker 2: like this planned in West Virginia or do you know
- 17:39Speaker 2: there are?
- 17:40Speaker 7: We We have been investing in the state and will
- 17:43Speaker 7: continue to invest in the states in the state, so
- 17:45Speaker 7: there are more stores to come and use to share
- 17:49Speaker 7: down the line. Absolutely, which we're really excited about.
- 17:51Speaker 2: We're talking to James Beinize about this new Kroger that's
- 17:53Speaker 2: going to open tomorrow, and of course I've had the
- 17:55Speaker 2: officials from the City of South Charleston, I think Shan
- 17:58Speaker 2: Zanaga and some other folks get to be here on
- 18:00Speaker 2: Thursday to talk about it. We talked to the Mayor,
- 18:03Speaker 2: Frank Mullins a lot. This is when you add that
- 18:05Speaker 2: with all the other things that are going on, there's
- 18:10Speaker 2: a lot of happenings in South Charleston with the other location,
- 18:12Speaker 2: of the stores, of the restaurants coming in, all there
- 18:14Speaker 2: in basically in one place.
- 18:17Speaker 7: Absolutely, Mayor Mullins and his entire team City of South
- 18:20Speaker 7: Charleston have been fantastic partners in getting this store built
- 18:24Speaker 7: and ready to open. So we couldn't be more proud
- 18:26Speaker 7: of our partnership with the city and really look forward
- 18:30Speaker 7: to serving everyone who lives and works here, which we're
- 18:33Speaker 7: really excited about. I should share Dave that the first
- 18:36Speaker 7: five hundred customers tomorrow morning will receive a ten dollars
- 18:40Speaker 7: gift card. So we expect a big crowd in the morning.
- 18:43Speaker 7: We anticipate people lining up pretty early to get in
- 18:46Speaker 7: when the doors open at eight. It's really going to
- 18:48Speaker 7: be a big celebration of the community and Kroger opening
- 18:52Speaker 7: the first marketplace here in South Charleston.
- 18:54Speaker 2: I mean, I remember when ground was broken on this
- 18:56Speaker 2: particular I'm talking about the entire facility, and we had
- 18:58Speaker 2: Mayor Mullins and others on talking about it. It don't seem like, Okay,
- 19:02Speaker 2: well this is going to happen at some point, but
- 19:03Speaker 2: it's here. I mean, it's it's happening. It's happening tomorrow.
- 19:06Speaker 2: And I know there had to be some idea that
- 19:10Speaker 2: you wanted to have it open. You got to have
- 19:12Speaker 2: it open before the fourth of July, right and the
- 19:14Speaker 2: America two fifty celebration.
- 19:16Speaker 7: It's a big that's a huge Fourth of July. So
- 19:19Speaker 7: we'll have all sorts of specials for grilling needs. We've
- 19:22Speaker 7: got seven ninety nine New York strips, which is a
- 19:25Speaker 7: great deal ahead of the Fourth of July. Buy one,
- 19:28Speaker 7: get one free, poor tender loins. I mean, there's all
- 19:30Speaker 7: sorts of specials. We'll have twenty five percent off the
- 19:33Speaker 7: service meet case so encourage everyone listening to come out
- 19:37Speaker 7: and get all those grilling needs for the fourth of July.
- 19:39Speaker 7: It's going to be a huge weekend and a huge
- 19:42Speaker 7: day tomorrow. Absolutely.
- 19:44Speaker 2: And I want to talk about the Kroger footprint in
- 19:46Speaker 2: West Virginia because you guys, how many stores do you
- 19:49Speaker 2: have in West Virginia.
- 19:51Speaker 7: We have thirty six stores in the state, employee more
- 19:55Speaker 7: than thirty five hundred associates. And you know what's Kroger
- 20:00Speaker 7: is really proud of is that we've been serving the
- 20:02Speaker 7: state since nineteen twenty six. So this year we are
- 20:06Speaker 7: celebrating one hundred years of service in the state of
- 20:09Speaker 7: West Virginia, which is pretty amazing.
- 20:12Speaker 2: And I don't know whether you know this or not,
- 20:14Speaker 2: maybe you do, James, but am my hometown Logan. Originally
- 20:19Speaker 2: there is an old building on Main Street that if
- 20:21Speaker 2: you look up at the top of the facade, it
- 20:23Speaker 2: still says Kroger on it. Now, it's been about three
- 20:25Speaker 2: hundred things since then, But if you drive through Main
- 20:27Speaker 2: Street downtown Logan, you look up to the top, you'll
- 20:30Speaker 2: see a building there that still you can still plainly
- 20:32Speaker 2: see the letters to say Kroger on it.
- 20:34Speaker 7: That's great. We certainly have a proud history in the state,
- 20:38Speaker 7: and we're looking forward to serving the state and the
- 20:41Speaker 7: South Charleston community and really communities across West Virginia for
- 20:45Speaker 7: one hundred years to come.
- 20:46Speaker 2: I mean, you're going to be celebrating. You have a
- 20:47Speaker 2: lot of folks coming from all around West Virginia for
- 20:49Speaker 2: this thing. Tomorrow. Again, the first five hundred people that
- 20:52Speaker 2: come in are going to get a ten dollars gift card.
- 20:54Speaker 2: You're going to cut the ribbon tomorrow morning at seven thirty.
- 20:56Speaker 2: But then eight o'clock the cash registers start ringing or
- 20:59Speaker 2: buzzing and or dinging or whatever it is they do.
- 21:01Speaker 7: Now, right, that's exactly right. We expect a great turnout
- 21:05Speaker 7: and we're really excited about it.
- 21:07Speaker 2: And somebody asked about the hours of the store. Do
- 21:10Speaker 2: you have that information available seven to eleven? Okay, because
- 21:15Speaker 2: I think somebody had asked if it was going to
- 21:16Speaker 2: be open twenty four hours. But it's not going to
- 21:17Speaker 2: be open twenty.
- 21:18Speaker 7: Four hours, not at this point though. We'll kick off
- 21:21Speaker 7: tomorrow at eight and then the store will open at
- 21:23Speaker 7: seven am going forward.
- 21:24Speaker 2: All right, let me give you a little little text
- 21:28Speaker 2: here if you don't mind it's just can you ask
- 21:30Speaker 2: of Kroger of South Charleston or Kart to set up
- 21:33Speaker 2: a new bus shuttle route for theirs for those folks
- 21:36Speaker 2: that were in Dunbar. Yeah, that will now come to
- 21:40Speaker 2: your store. So maybe maybe some sort of a shuttle
- 21:42Speaker 2: or so, maybe you talk to Kart about that.
- 21:44Speaker 7: Absolutely, and we are certainly looking into that.
- 21:47Speaker 2: All right, Hey, James, I know you're busy and we're
- 21:49Speaker 2: going to have you back on Metro News midday later
- 21:51Speaker 2: today during the one o'clock hour, So I appreciate you
- 21:54Speaker 2: being here to talk about this fantastic facility. It opens
- 21:56Speaker 2: tomorrow morning, ribbon cutting at seven point thirty. You'll start
- 21:59Speaker 2: doing business at eight o'clock tomorrow morning, and first five
- 22:02Speaker 2: hundred people through the door get a ten dollars gift card.
- 22:06Speaker 2: James Benisse of Kroger mad Atlantic, appreciate you being here man,
- 22:09Speaker 2: Thanks a lot.
- 22:10Speaker 7: Hey, thanks a lot day, appreciate it. Look forward to
- 22:12Speaker 7: seeing everyone tomorrow.
- 22:13Speaker 2: All right. It is a nine to thirty of a
- 22:15Speaker 2: Dave Island Show on five Eddielive is brought to you
- 22:17Speaker 2: aparted by the all New Generations Ford of Hurricane Visit
- 22:20Speaker 2: Generations Forward dot Com. Yeah, I mean, you talk about
- 22:23Speaker 2: this entire facility out there, and I've been talking to
- 22:27Speaker 2: Mayor Frank Mullins about this and the other Shanzan again
- 22:30Speaker 2: the other people from the city of South Charleston on
- 22:31Speaker 2: the show for the last couple of years. And when
- 22:34Speaker 2: they first talked about this particular Kroger location opening up
- 22:37Speaker 2: and the first of it's kind of West Virginia because
- 22:39Speaker 2: it does have home goods and all these other things there,
- 22:42Speaker 2: people were just kind of like, Wow, that's a Kroger,
- 22:45Speaker 2: And yeah, it's a Kroger and it is a huge,
- 22:49Speaker 2: huge facility. I don't know whether you have had a
- 22:51Speaker 2: chance to drive by it or not, but it's it's
- 22:53Speaker 2: absolutely huge, and it's going to open tomorrow and employeeing
- 22:56Speaker 2: close to four hundred people in West Virginia. So getting
- 23:00Speaker 2: getting it all done there at Kroger tomorrow. I appreciate
- 23:03Speaker 2: some of mister Manes, who is the head of Communications
- 23:07Speaker 2: of public affairs for Krogert mid Atlantic, for being on

- 24:59Speaker 2: That means ten years of trust, ten years of service,
- 25:02Speaker 2: and ten years of building lasting relationships with drivers throughout
- 25:05Speaker 2: our community. So what's the secret to longevity in the
- 25:08Speaker 2: car business. Well, if you ask Gene and Ryan, they're
- 25:11Speaker 2: going to tell you that it's pretty simple. You see.
- 25:13Speaker 2: That's because they built their business the old fashioned way
- 25:16Speaker 2: by making friends. There are no gimmicks or games at Walker,
- 25:19Speaker 2: just honest, fair deals. Like right now, you can take

- 25:35Speaker 2: on right now. As a matter of fact, they have
- 25:37Speaker 2: marked down vehicles all across a lot to celebrate their
- 25:40Speaker 2: first of many decades in business. So take that short
- 25:43Speaker 2: twenty minute drive from Charleston nor Huntington to Walker Chrysler

- 27:21Speaker 2: that the Staten County School Board should consider bringing the
- 27:24Speaker 2: tunnel to Towers and nine to eleven. Never forget mobile
- 27:28Speaker 2: exhibit to the civic Center. Kids from different counties need
- 27:32Speaker 2: to see that because a lot of them don't know
- 27:35Speaker 2: anything about that morning, the day of all days, really
- 27:39Speaker 2: needs to be remembered, or that history is now twenty
- 27:42Speaker 2: nine hundred and seventy seven souls lost that morning will
- 27:44Speaker 2: be forgotten or rewritten. Just look at what's happening in
- 27:47Speaker 2: this country right now. Tex says, looks like the new
- 27:50Speaker 2: Kroger gas pumps have been opened for a few weeks
- 27:52Speaker 2: now TECH certainly looking into that would have been nice
- 27:57Speaker 2: to consider before their grand reopening. Just saying, Kroger, giveth Kroger,
- 28:01Speaker 2: taketh away. Thanks for asking the question. I'm sure that
- 28:04Speaker 2: people have dunbar appreciate it. The park Place development is
- 28:11Speaker 2: really taking place in South Charleston. Any thought to see
- 28:14Speaker 2: a frequent critic, Howard Swint, has changed his tune on
- 28:16Speaker 2: the project. Well, Mitch Swint's been on the show before,
- 28:18Speaker 2: and he's more than welcome to come back on the
- 28:20Speaker 2: show anytime he wants. Also welcome on the show anytime
- 28:24Speaker 2: he wants. Look at him. It's Rod Blackstone. How you doing, man?
- 28:27Speaker 3: Oh, I'm doing all right. It's a beautiful day for baseball,
- 28:29Speaker 3: or at least it will be starting this afternoon.
- 28:31Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 28:31Speaker 2: I looked outside a little bit earlier for the show.
- 28:33Speaker 2: A little cloudy, a little damp here, but that's all
- 28:35Speaker 2: gonna dry off and we should have a good night
- 28:37Speaker 2: to baseball, good couple nights of baseball to the ballpark sports.
- 28:41Speaker 2: The Birds are back at Goodmart Ballpark tonight and they're
- 28:43Speaker 2: going to begin a long homestand against York and we'll
- 28:45Speaker 2: run down all the special nights and because there's something
- 28:48Speaker 2: going on every night. But you are excited to talk
- 28:50Speaker 2: about this. Baseball for Us.
- 28:53Speaker 3: Yes, Baseball for Us is sort of an expansion of
- 28:56Speaker 3: African American Heritage Night that we've done for the last
- 28:58Speaker 3: seven years. We were the first sports organization in West
- 29:01Speaker 3: Virginia to be able to say, hey, we want to
- 29:03Speaker 3: celebrate all the different parts of our population, especially those
- 29:08Speaker 3: that are underrepresented at ballparks and especially at baseball parks.
- 29:11Speaker 3: So we've had three special days every year for the
- 29:14Speaker 3: last few years, and two of them that date back
- 29:17Speaker 3: till twenty nineteen. And tonight is Baseball for Us night,
- 29:20Speaker 3: celebrating the diversity, the strength that we get from the
- 29:22Speaker 3: diversity in our community, and especially the heritage of diversity
- 29:26Speaker 3: in baseball. If you think about baseball, it is I
- 29:29Speaker 3: guess soccer might be more diverse than baseball, but we're
- 29:33Speaker 3: probably a close second. And you look at our team
- 29:35Speaker 3: and you see people from Venezuela, from the Dominican Republic,
- 29:38Speaker 3: and heck tonight the York Revolution their lead off hitters
- 29:41Speaker 3: from Japan. So it is baseball for us. It means
- 29:45Speaker 3: in baseball is for all of us, and that's what
- 29:48Speaker 3: we're celebrating tonight with a pretty nice program. We've got
- 29:51Speaker 3: the gates open at five o'clock. We'll have five hundred
- 29:55Speaker 3: vouchers for a free hot dog and the water for
- 29:58Speaker 3: the first five hundred kids to come through through Corduroy Brown,
- 30:01Speaker 3: a rising star from Huntington, is coming over and he's
- 30:04Speaker 3: provide some entertainment before the game. We'll also be unveiling
- 30:08Speaker 3: a project that we started last year during African American
- 30:11Speaker 3: Heritage Night and Jeff Pearson, the city director of Public Art,
- 30:15Speaker 3: helped us put it together and it is a celebration
- 30:17Speaker 3: of diverse and strong is what it's called, and it's
- 30:22Speaker 3: what he did last year was to take different sheets
- 30:26Speaker 3: of skin tones and people who came to the game,
- 30:30Speaker 3: and some of our players later outlined their hands and
- 30:32Speaker 3: he'd put them all together, reaching together toward a central
- 30:37Speaker 3: vision that we're going to be unveiling in about six
- 30:40Speaker 3: ten tonight, right after Corduroy Jones plays it quarter till
- 30:44Speaker 3: ten till six. So it is a celebration and we
- 30:47Speaker 3: have it's a celebration of our entire community. The other
- 30:50Speaker 3: thing we're doing is doing another public art project because
- 30:53Speaker 3: art has been intertwined with African American Heritage Night for
- 30:57Speaker 3: the last several years, and we're going to do a
- 31:01Speaker 3: Baseball for Us Art project led by Brianna Taft, who
- 31:04Speaker 3: is the head of the Public Arts Division and Festival
- 31:09Speaker 3: and at Festival, we were on at this children's art
- 31:12Speaker 3: fair and taking little baseballs and having kids and well
- 31:16Speaker 3: kids of all ages really color them in about what
- 31:18Speaker 3: baseball for us means to them. And we're going to
- 31:20Speaker 3: be putting that in a physical format later in a
- 31:23Speaker 3: home plate. And then we're also going to be showcasing
- 31:27Speaker 3: some of the artwork that we had from the entire community.
- 31:30Speaker 3: So it's going to be a really good time. And
- 31:31Speaker 3: we're also celebrating about nine actually ten if you think
- 31:35Speaker 3: about it, a team of ten community all stars who
- 31:39Speaker 3: understand the nature of the cause, who understand the strength
- 31:43Speaker 3: that we get from diversity, and who are pretty big
- 31:46Speaker 3: in that cause. So we will be honoring them throughout
- 31:48Speaker 3: the course of the night. We're hoping that kids come
- 31:51Speaker 3: and dresses their favorite baseball player because we have a
- 31:58Speaker 3: Wonderwall event, so I think the name of the company
- 32:01Speaker 3: that is that made baseball cards for people last year
- 32:04Speaker 3: for free, come get a baseball card of yourself for free,
- 32:08Speaker 3: and so we're hoping kids will come dress as their
- 32:10Speaker 3: favorite representing their favorite team or their favorite player, and
- 32:13Speaker 3: you get a free baseball card as well under the
- 32:16Speaker 3: third base canopy. So there are a lot of good
- 32:18Speaker 3: things going on team. That's all just one night. Yeah,
- 32:21Speaker 3: that's just one night. Yeah, throughout the week. I know
- 32:23Speaker 3: Redneck Night is back. I think that's yeah, that's tomorrow night.
- 32:27Speaker 2: And I mean I got a whole list of all
- 32:29Speaker 2: these things that they're going on, and we'll just tell
- 32:31Speaker 2: you about those throughout the week. I think we will
- 32:33Speaker 2: kind of just concentrate on this because there is something
- 32:35Speaker 2: two or three things, two or three special something's going
- 32:37Speaker 2: on every night at the ballpark.
- 32:38Speaker 3: Well, the other thing to think about also is this
- 32:40Speaker 3: Saturday night is usually in the schedule, is that most
- 32:44Speaker 3: teams have either the fourth of July or the third
- 32:47Speaker 3: and fourth. There's a division you're already home on the
- 32:49Speaker 3: third or home on the fourth or fourth and fifth,
- 32:51Speaker 3: depending on what the calendar says. This is one year.
- 32:54Speaker 3: We're gone all next week on the road, and there's
- 32:58Speaker 3: plenty of do in Charleston without baseball next week, clearly,
- 33:01Speaker 3: but that means Saturday night is going to be sort
- 33:04Speaker 3: of the kickoff of the week of two hundred and
- 33:06Speaker 3: fiftieth anniversary celebration, and we're going to have our biggest
- 33:10Speaker 3: firework show, and I think we're packing the ballpark with
- 33:12Speaker 3: a lot of groups I think we've got pre sale
- 33:14Speaker 3: of two thousand maybe already, So we're gonna, Oh that night,
- 33:18Speaker 3: we're gonna have the two hundred and forty ninth Army Band.
- 33:20Speaker 3: They showed up last year on July. I think it
- 33:23Speaker 3: was third that we had our celebration. Last year, they
- 33:26Speaker 3: showed up. They're out of Morgantown. Chief Jeremia Bennett leads them,
- 33:30Speaker 3: and they do a great job. I mean, I had
- 33:33Speaker 3: not heard of them before, but they said, yeah, we'll
- 33:35Speaker 3: come down, and it was an amazing show. Pop music mostly,
- 33:39Speaker 3: but some stuff that a band is doing. They'll also
- 33:43Speaker 3: lead us in the national anthem and also that night
- 33:48Speaker 3: playing all the service anthems as we recognize the people
- 33:50Speaker 3: who serve. So Saturday Night's going to be a big
- 33:53Speaker 3: night for us and a really great way to start
- 33:56Speaker 3: the week of celebrations of our nation.
- 33:59Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, there's a whole lot going on, you know,
- 34:02Speaker 2: and there's a moth Man Night on Friday, moth Man
- 34:04Speaker 2: Night on Friday, and as I said, I think some
- 34:07Speaker 2: of our folks are going to be out there Saturday Night.
- 34:08Speaker 2: Among the other things going on Saturday Night, I think
- 34:11Speaker 2: w RC Media is going to be a part of
- 34:12Speaker 2: the celebration on Saturday night. So all of our stations
- 34:15Speaker 2: I think are going to be out there represented the
- 34:16Speaker 2: ballpark too, some of us will be out there, So
- 34:18Speaker 2: looking forward to seeing everybody there. I'm want to go
- 34:20Speaker 2: back to tonight though, because there if there was any
- 34:23Speaker 2: knock on baseball, I think rod for so many years,
- 34:26Speaker 2: it was that there wasn't a lot of diversity in it.
- 34:32Speaker 2: And I mean, I'm going back to talking about historically,
- 34:35Speaker 2: you know, and uh and of course we all know
- 34:37Speaker 2: with Jackie Robinson and then the rise of a lot
- 34:39Speaker 2: of the Latin players and uh and and but but
- 34:43Speaker 2: it's been said that and there's been a move on
- 34:46Speaker 2: to try to encourage more African American kids, especially to
- 34:51Speaker 2: go into the sport. Now there are plenty in it,
- 34:53Speaker 2: but there could always be more. And that's what this
- 34:56Speaker 2: is all about.
- 34:56Speaker 5: It.
- 34:57Speaker 2: I know, Major League Baseball specifically has gone into a
- 35:00Speaker 2: lot of these communities and tried to, you know, get
- 35:04Speaker 2: some minority groups to get more involved in baseball.
- 35:06Speaker 3: The RBI program that the Major League Baseball did, Yes
- 35:09Speaker 3: when I when I was young, when I was first
- 35:11Speaker 3: discovering baseball growing up outside of Pittsburgh, the best athletes,
- 35:16Speaker 3: and the best black athletes were choosing baseball. Bob Gibson,
- 35:19Speaker 3: Dave Winfield, Dave Parker, Willie Stargel, Hank Aaron, Willie Mays.
- 35:24Speaker 3: And that was because Jackie Robinson paved the way after
- 35:27Speaker 3: the years of segregation. And so I think once a
- 35:32Speaker 3: Major League Baseball realized and had that door open more
- 35:36Speaker 3: than the other major sports did or in earlier, but
- 35:38Speaker 3: it took a long time. And so you think about
- 35:41Speaker 3: the glory years of the sixties and seventies, Uh, yeah,
- 35:46Speaker 3: we had some amazing black athletes growing up that chose
- 35:49Speaker 3: baseball that could have chose another Dave Winfield's a great example.
- 35:52Speaker 3: I think he was a four sport player University of Minnesota.
- 35:56Speaker 3: And then what I've seen is sort of an ebb
- 35:59Speaker 3: of that. For a few years and increasingly the color
- 36:03Speaker 3: of baseball, especially at the college level, was white and
- 36:06Speaker 3: at the professional level white and Latino. But yes, Major
- 36:09Speaker 3: League Baseball has been pushing through the RBI program to
- 36:12Speaker 3: get more people, more African Americans back into it, and
- 36:16Speaker 3: I think that is working because we have several great
- 36:19Speaker 3: athletes on our team, for instance, and were led by PJ. Phillips,
- 36:24Speaker 3: whose brother Brandon was one of the best players in
- 36:27Speaker 3: the last two decades and best second basement in Major
- 36:30Speaker 3: League baseball. So it is you see that push coming back,
- 36:34Speaker 3: and I appreciate seeing more and more black athletes who
- 36:38Speaker 3: choose baseball. I must confess I have a Russell Wilson story. Okay,
- 36:42Speaker 3: that's sort of it's nothing to do with tonight. Russell
- 36:45Speaker 3: Wilson is the two sport athletes back in North Carolina State.
- 36:51Speaker 3: He got drafted out of junior year by the Colorado
- 36:55Speaker 3: Rockies and he came and played for Ashville against US
- 36:58Speaker 3: back when we were affiliated in the same league as
- 37:00Speaker 3: as they were. And I remember seeing him and what
- 37:02Speaker 3: was the sports bar upstairs after a game one night,
- 37:05Speaker 3: and I said, I'm so glad you chose baseball well,
- 37:08Speaker 3: and he was only hitting about two thirty at the time,
- 37:11Speaker 3: and within the half within what a month, I think
- 37:13Speaker 3: he decided I got one more year of eligibility to left.
- 37:16Speaker 3: I think I'm going to see if I can get
- 37:18Speaker 3: back into football, and the rest they say is a mastery.
- 37:21Speaker 2: I think he's going to be an analyst for one
- 37:23Speaker 2: of the networks this year. Well that's cool. Yeah, he's
- 37:25Speaker 2: going to be in one of the one of the
- 37:27Speaker 2: one of the shows. He's going to be an NF
- 37:28Speaker 2: and I'm sure he'll do a.
- 37:29Speaker 1: Great job at it.
- 37:30Speaker 2: He was a great athlete. Oh yeah, you know Russell Wilson.
- 37:32Speaker 2: I know, he played for Dale Cooper's Seattle Seahawks, you know,
- 37:35Speaker 2: for nover of years and bounced right, bounced around the
- 37:38Speaker 2: league a little bit. But he was a fantastic athlete.
- 37:41Speaker 2: I did not know that he was, that he had
- 37:43Speaker 2: gone that far as far as being a two.
- 37:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 37:46Speaker 3: I'm sure he doesn't remember the conversation, but I do,
- 37:48Speaker 3: especially unless he might remember toast Man, because I.
- 37:52Speaker 2: Could forget the toast Man.
- 37:53Speaker 3: Well, I probably did toast him because he was only
- 37:55Speaker 3: a two thirty hitter at that time. But but no,
- 37:57Speaker 3: But but you're right, your point is baseball and baseball
- 38:01Speaker 3: it has been diverse. I mean, you think about the
- 38:03Speaker 3: all white baseball teams.
- 38:05Speaker 4: Now.
- 38:05Speaker 3: The other thing I'm proud of thanks to AARP in
- 38:07Speaker 3: West Virginia in twenty twenty, the one hundredth anniversary of
- 38:11Speaker 3: the centennial of the negro Leagues, whenever black folk were
- 38:15Speaker 3: kicked out of Major League Baseball and they started their
- 38:17Speaker 3: own negro Leagues. Major League Baseball and Minor League Baseball
- 38:20Speaker 3: were pushing everybody to have a celebration, and we planned to.
- 38:23Speaker 3: We had the Josh Gibson Exhibit.
- 38:25Speaker 2: Remember you came on the show and talked about.
- 38:26Speaker 3: It and coming down here. And as it turned but
- 38:29Speaker 3: everybody else canceled except for us. So we were the
- 38:32Speaker 3: only baseball team on the continent that had an in
- 38:36Speaker 3: person celebration of the hundredth anniversary of the Negro League
- 38:40Speaker 3: realized that well, Major League Baseball had them because they
- 38:43Speaker 3: resumed play, but it was all virtual because nobody was
- 38:46Speaker 3: in the ballpark until the playoffs. But everybody else had
- 38:50Speaker 3: canceled because their seasons got canceled. But AARP said, yeah,
- 38:53Speaker 3: keep our money and do that, and so we became
- 38:57Speaker 3: the only one.
- 38:57Speaker 2: To do the baseball It was a fantastic.
- 39:00Speaker 3: Yeah, we brought it back in twenty twenty one whenever
- 39:02Speaker 3: we were able to resume. So but that was diversity matters,
- 39:06Speaker 3: and I still, you know, I'm one of those people
- 39:08Speaker 3: that thinks it's actually a really really good word because
- 39:11Speaker 3: it's through our strength that we through the diversity, that
- 39:14Speaker 3: we get our strength. And I think the more people
- 39:17Speaker 3: with different backgrounds, different understandings come together for any cause,
- 39:21Speaker 3: and it's especially Torona baseball team. It's especially to right
- 39:24Speaker 3: now in the World Cup. People have come from different
- 39:27Speaker 3: places to come together and work on a team for
- 39:30Speaker 3: shared goals. That's that's when we're at our strength.
- 39:32Speaker 2: Now, this is the second day in a row I've
- 39:34Speaker 2: talked about World Cup because I don't know if you
- 39:35Speaker 2: heard the show yesterday and that Rusty Web texted me
- 39:37Speaker 2: last week and he said, I'm going to Because I
- 39:40Speaker 2: had said something on the air about not just not
- 39:42Speaker 2: being a huge fan, Rusty text me and said, hey,
- 39:44Speaker 2: I'm coming. I'm going to come on the show and
- 39:46Speaker 2: I'm going to get you to care about the World Cup.
- 39:48Speaker 2: And by god he did because because he started talking
- 39:51Speaker 2: about the whole country roads thing and about and so yeah,
- 39:54Speaker 2: I actually I actually care a little bit more than
- 39:57Speaker 2: I did about the World Cup. How's that? And I knew, no,
- 40:00Speaker 2: it is.
- 40:00Speaker 3: It's amazing.
- 40:01Speaker 2: I still don't.
- 40:02Speaker 3: I'm still whenever I go to a UC soccer game,
- 40:04Speaker 3: that's the soccer team that I'll follow over the closest.
- 40:06Speaker 3: I'll still be asking people, Okay, what what just happened?
- 40:09Speaker 3: What does that mean? But yeah, it's clearly, it's clearly
- 40:12Speaker 3: the sport of the world.
- 40:13Speaker 2: Yeah, and we're just now catching up. It's what I told.
- 40:16Speaker 2: I said, I was talking to Weekly on the show yesterday.
- 40:18Speaker 2: I said, because the first thing he did when he
- 40:20Speaker 2: came in the studio was changed channel, putting on the
- 40:22Speaker 2: you know whatever channel World couple was on. And I
- 40:25Speaker 2: was telling him, I said, you know, growing up as
- 40:26Speaker 2: a kid in southern West Virginia in the seventies and eighties,
- 40:30Speaker 2: you know, there there was no soccer. I mean, he
- 40:32Speaker 2: just wasn't played, It wasn't taught or anything like that.
- 40:35Speaker 2: Now it's changed since then, all right, But back back
- 40:38Speaker 2: when I was a kid, it was you know, the
- 40:40Speaker 2: three baseball, football, basketball, and that was it.
- 40:42Speaker 3: Yeah, that's that's about it.
- 40:44Speaker 2: And now it's not, well yeah, but not not a
- 40:47Speaker 2: not a lot of hockey being played in southern West Virginia.
- 40:49Speaker 4: No, that's true.
- 40:49Speaker 2: But but I can't tell you that it's it's now changed,
- 40:52Speaker 2: and soccer is a huge sport now.
- 40:54Speaker 3: Yeah, And I'm proud to work for an owner who
- 40:56Speaker 3: appreciates that the business business of baseball is such that
- 41:00Speaker 3: and the business of all sports is such that we
- 41:02Speaker 3: need to build everybody We need to make sure everybody
- 41:04Speaker 3: is welcome in our ballpark, and so that's one of
- 41:06Speaker 3: the things that tonight helps us. Do you are welcome here.
- 41:11Speaker 3: You might not look like me, you might not come
- 41:13Speaker 3: from the same place as I do, but you are
- 41:15Speaker 3: welcome here.
- 41:15Speaker 2: All right, And go over everything for tonight again because
- 41:18Speaker 2: we threw out a lot of information. But what people
- 41:20Speaker 2: show up to ballpark tonight against York will Yeah.
- 41:23Speaker 3: We have five o'clock, the gates open five thirty. The
- 41:25Speaker 3: entertainment starts with the autographs and pictures with some of
- 41:28Speaker 3: our players, five hundred coupons for the first five hundred

- 41:35Speaker 3: brown playing pregame, the unveiling of Different and Strong, the
- 41:39Speaker 3: art project from last year, then the ballgame at six thirty,
- 41:43Speaker 3: and a whole lot of fun to be had, free
- 41:45Speaker 3: baseball cards if you come out, preferably representing your favorite
- 41:50Speaker 3: team or your favorite player, and a whole lot of
- 41:53Speaker 3: community all stars that we're going to be honoring throughout
- 41:55Speaker 3: the night. So it's gonna be a great night. Only

- 45:30Speaker 2: divisive things being done. Have you not noticed the pushback

- 45:40Speaker 2: just play the game. Stop pandering the groups. It creates
- 45:43Speaker 2: more division, says a texture Coming up later today, Metro
- 45:48Speaker 2: News Midday thirteen News in Tonight Live anchor Mander Baron
- 45:50Speaker 2: and Me powered by Slango Law, will of course continue
- 45:53Speaker 2: to take our looks back at the flooding the state
- 45:57Speaker 2: in twenty sixteen. And again we started this yesterday and
- 46:00Speaker 2: if you listened in the morning news this morning, we
- 46:02Speaker 2: had a lot of archive footage and video and audio,
- 46:06Speaker 2: I should say of audio, there's a different stave audio
- 46:10Speaker 2: of some of those from Earl Ray Tomlin on down
- 46:14Speaker 2: and just brought back a lot of memories, I will say,
- 46:18Speaker 2: listening to a lot of that today. So we're going
- 46:20Speaker 2: to continue some of that on midday today. Now, ironically, today,
- 46:25Speaker 2: of course, is the actual anniversary of those floods. But
- 46:30Speaker 2: last night, late afternoon and into the evening hour, some
- 46:33Speaker 2: areas of southern West Virginia, primarily Boone and Logan Counties,
- 46:37Speaker 2: got hit really hard. We're going to talk about that
- 46:39Speaker 2: on the show today as well. Now, I will tell
- 46:41Speaker 2: you we have plenty of coverage of today's flood get
- 46:44Speaker 2: well the twenty twenty six floods, I should say, on
- 46:47Speaker 2: our website wv metronews dot com. I've got some stuff
- 46:49Speaker 2: posted over on Dave Allen Radio as well, some footage,
- 46:54Speaker 2: some video footage from my old station down there, WVW.
- 46:59Speaker 2: Some of the flooding in Logan County. Boone County hit
- 47:02Speaker 2: particularly hard as well. Chris Lawrence from our news team
- 47:07Speaker 2: is actually going to be going down to Boone County,
- 47:10Speaker 2: so he'll probably join us on the show today to
- 47:13Speaker 2: talk about what he sees there. Waters are starting to
- 47:16Speaker 2: receive but a lot of areas of Boone County, places
- 47:18Speaker 2: like Wharton, if you're familiar with these names, Wharton, Spruce River, Jeffrey,
- 47:23Speaker 2: into the Blair and Charple's area into Logan County, got
- 47:27Speaker 2: hit really, really hard. The Mount Gay area of Logan County,
- 47:31Speaker 2: what we call forty four of the Omar area, cal
- 47:35Speaker 2: Creek places like that got hit really hard. Waters are
- 47:37Speaker 2: starting to go down, but now the cleanup is going
- 47:39Speaker 2: on to Chris Lawrence is headed down that way and
- 47:41Speaker 2: we'll be talking to him on the show today as well.
- 47:44Speaker 2: Little Happier notes the West Virginia Freedom Festival gets underway
- 47:49Speaker 2: in Logan today. Amber Miller Belcher from the Freedom Festival
- 47:51Speaker 2: is going to join us on Metter in his Midday today.
- 47:53Speaker 2: They got some big acts. LeAnn Rimes is coming down
- 47:56Speaker 2: there and check this out. Bo Duke John Schneider is
- 48:00Speaker 2: going to be there as well, and they've got him
- 48:01Speaker 2: to do the national anthem one night of the Freedom
- 48:05Speaker 2: Festival down there. So we'll talk to Amber Miller Belcher
- 48:08Speaker 2: about that. Mett tro News Midday with thirteen News and
- 48:10Speaker 2: Tonight Live anchor Bander, Baron and Me coming up at
- 48:12Speaker 2: noon today powered by Selango law Now on this show tomorrow,
- 48:15Speaker 2: we're going to continue looking back at twenty sixteen. Clinton
- 48:18Speaker 2: and Mayor Kse Summers will be on the show tomorrow.
- 48:21Speaker 2: And also, since all the talk the last twenty four hours,
- 48:24Speaker 2: what hasn't been flood related. Has been has been about concerts.
- 48:30Speaker 2: Check this out. The Mormonute Tabernacle Choir is about to
- 48:34Speaker 2: celebrate a big anniversary, the one hundredth anniversary of their
- 48:39Speaker 2: first ever concert at the Hollywood Bowl. And it's going
- 48:43Speaker 2: to be commemorated, of course, all across the country, but
- 48:46Speaker 2: it's going to be commemorated here in Charleston by a
- 48:48Speaker 2: special event at the theater at Capitol High School. And
- 48:52Speaker 2: it is going to be this Saturday afternoon. So we're
- 48:55Speaker 2: going to get into that story coming up on the
- 48:58Speaker 2: show today as as well. Texter texted in to say
- 49:03Speaker 2: special nights, not special rights. Actually, you may have actually
- 49:06Speaker 2: texted it right, and maybe I read it wrong. This
- 49:08Speaker 2: that's been known to happen, all right, So let's talk
- 49:11Speaker 2: about concerts. Yesterday, the governor announcing that Alabama, the Marshall
- 49:19Speaker 2: Tucker Band, and the West Virginia Symphony are all going
- 49:24Speaker 2: to play as part of the America two fifty celebration
- 49:28Speaker 2: here in Charleston. Now, of course this is the West
- 49:32Speaker 2: Virginia version I guess of this. Alabama is set to
- 49:35Speaker 2: play Friday nights as part of this. At the same
- 49:40Speaker 2: time that Bobby Brown is going to be playing the regatta. Now,
- 49:46Speaker 2: I think all this is great, and America only turns
- 49:48Speaker 2: two hundred and fifty one time. I'm not a traffic
- 49:53Speaker 2: engineer though, okay, and I'm just trying to figure out
- 50:00Speaker 2: how this thing is going to work. I am not
- 50:02Speaker 2: a skeptic or whatever, and I think it's all great.
- 50:07Speaker 2: I'm one that is always about banging the drum of
- 50:10Speaker 2: promoting things going on, whether it's Charleston or you know,
- 50:13Speaker 2: our entire listening area. But I'm just kind of trying
- 50:19Speaker 2: to figure out how this is going to happen in
- 50:22Speaker 2: all of this in Charleston. Now, as I said, Marshall
- 50:24Speaker 2: Tucker Band is also going to be playing the West
- 50:26Speaker 2: Virginia Symphony. The Symphony I understand, is going to play
- 50:28Speaker 2: that Saturday night, which is the fourth, and the Marshall
- 50:31Speaker 2: Tucker Band Southern Rock Icons were playing on Sunday. The
- 50:35Speaker 2: whole thing is being called the Capital City Celebration, and
- 50:38Speaker 2: it's actually going to run July second through the fifth,
