- 0:04Speaker 1: Here we go a depty live bron, Kratz and Krizinski
- 0:08Speaker 1: doing the show as we will do every year on
- 0:11Speaker 1: nine to eleven, which is a very special day in
- 0:14Speaker 1: Major League Baseball and one of the most important days
- 0:17Speaker 1: of remembrance really in the history of our nation. You know,
- 0:22Speaker 1: we believe in freedom, and obviously baseball played a small
- 0:26Speaker 1: part in helping New York and our entire country heal
- 0:30Speaker 1: during that time back September eleventh of two thousand and one.
- 0:33Speaker 1: So you know, of course games across the country there'll
- 0:37Speaker 1: be a moment of silence and a lot of honoring
- 0:40Speaker 1: those that were lost and you know those obviously that
- 0:43Speaker 1: are morning from that time period. But guys just wanted
- 0:47Speaker 1: to start the show obviously saying that we believe in freedom,
- 0:50Speaker 1: one nation and screw any terrorists that tries to get
- 0:53Speaker 1: in the way of.
- 0:54Speaker 2: That great I mean, I was playing Major League Baseball
- 0:57Speaker 2: when September eleventh hapned twenty four years ago, and it
- 1:01Speaker 2: was one of the worst days in American history. And
- 1:04Speaker 2: it should never be forgotten. It should never be pushed
- 1:06Speaker 2: to the side. It should be remembered, and it should
- 1:08Speaker 2: be talked about. And there is no room for violence
- 1:11Speaker 2: and there is no room for anything. You know, whatever
- 1:14Speaker 2: you believe in, it should be we should be able
- 1:16Speaker 2: to have conversations. And I'm sure we'll get into it
- 1:19Speaker 2: on my game tonight on Fox September eleventh, with all
- 1:22Speaker 2: the things that will be happening in Cleveland here, but
- 1:24Speaker 2: I was in Detroit. It was a sad day and
- 1:28Speaker 2: it was one of the worst days that I can
- 1:29Speaker 2: remember as a major league player, sitting there getting phone calls,
- 1:32Speaker 2: watching it happen on TV and things that are happening
- 1:35Speaker 2: in today's world. With what happened yesterday, you know, there's
- 1:38Speaker 2: no room when people are speaking and talking about things,
- 1:41Speaker 2: and you know, a podcaster gets basically assassinated on for
- 1:46Speaker 2: no reason other than giving his beliefs. It's not where
- 1:48Speaker 2: we should be. And if anything's on September eleventh, we
- 1:50Speaker 2: should look at each other and say, hey, why can't
- 1:53Speaker 2: we all just get along? And I think that's where
- 1:54Speaker 2: we're at, and it's a sad day, but it's also
- 1:56Speaker 2: a data should be looked at in a positive way,
- 1:58Speaker 2: meaning we should all look at each other and say
- 2:00Speaker 2: we can do better than where we're at right now.
- 2:03Speaker 3: And it's something that brings the country together. Obviously I
- 2:07Speaker 3: never show my hat forward till the end of the show,
- 2:09Speaker 3: but I was honored to be able to wear the
- 2:13Speaker 3: NYPD or the FDNY hat, the NYFD hat that we
- 2:18Speaker 3: wore on September eleventh as a Yankee, and I got
- 2:22Speaker 3: to go see the monuments that are set up now,
- 2:25Speaker 3: Like it's something that affects everybody, affects everybody differently, and
- 2:30Speaker 3: when we stop remembering it and we stop commemorating it
- 2:35Speaker 3: and remembering the people who sacrifice for it.
- 2:37Speaker 2: That's where the issue is.
- 2:39Speaker 3: And I think it's something that baseball is intertwined in
- 2:43Speaker 3: that so many stories around nine to eleven and nine
- 2:46Speaker 3: to eleven getting back to or baseball getting back to
- 2:50Speaker 3: some semblance of reality while there was still things going
- 2:54Speaker 3: on in New York is something that I'll always remember
- 2:57Speaker 3: and every day.
- 2:58Speaker 2: I'mber every September eleven, if we remember.
- 3:00Speaker 1: This, President Trump's going to be a Yankee stadium tonightnine
- 3:04Speaker 1: or at nine to eleven. I think we just need
- 3:06Speaker 1: to make sure we're thinking about the right things on
- 3:08Speaker 1: a daylight today and keep talking about this. Baseball obviously
- 3:12Speaker 1: again played you know a little part in helping people
- 3:15Speaker 1: heal back then and hopefully can continue to do that.
- 3:18Speaker 2: All right, I remember it, yeah, I mean, I mean,
- 3:22Speaker 2: I remember the first came back. It was unbelievable. After this,
- 3:27Speaker 2: we were in Detroit when this happened. We were at
- 3:28Speaker 2: the hotel and I remember we had to get back
- 3:30Speaker 2: to Minnesota. I was at the Twins at the time
- 3:32Speaker 2: and didn't know what was going to happen. It was
- 3:34Speaker 2: scary time. We couldn't fly because all the fights were grounded.
- 3:38Speaker 2: We had to bust back to Minneapolis from Detroit. After
- 3:42Speaker 2: we played, we played inner squad games in Detroit. The
- 3:46Speaker 2: hookst ourselves in front of nobody at Kmerica Park because
- 3:49Speaker 2: nobody knew what was going to happen, if we were
- 3:50Speaker 2: going to have a season. And then let's not forget
- 3:53Speaker 2: you know, President Bush taking the mound there in Yankee
- 3:55Speaker 2: Stadium the first day after September eleventh and doing what
- 3:58Speaker 2: he did, and and just the moment it meant for
- 4:01Speaker 2: the entire country and how the country came together. It
- 4:04Speaker 2: was a big moment. And I think that we, you know,
- 4:06Speaker 2: sometimes need to look at them and say, hey, we
- 4:08Speaker 2: need to whatever, you know, we need to come together
- 4:11Speaker 2: a little bit more and listen, we're not a political show.
- 4:13Speaker 2: We know that we're a baseball show. But if baseball
- 4:16Speaker 2: helped a little bit, and after this terrible event, that
- 4:18Speaker 2: we should all be able to look out of twenty
- 4:20Speaker 2: four years later and say the same thing.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Yeah, And that's the crazy part, twenty four years later.
- 4:27Speaker 1: So there are a lot of young people out there
- 4:29Speaker 1: that really don't don't have, you know, stories, and maybe
- 4:33Speaker 1: don't know enough about what happened. So that's what we're
- 4:36Speaker 1: here for to mention here today at the top of
- 4:39Speaker 1: the show. All right, let's get to some baseball charge out,
- 4:46Speaker 1: so guys will start in New York and AJ the
- 4:50Speaker 1: Yankees got smacked by the Tigers.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Again.
- 4:53Speaker 1: I feel like we're covering quite a bit of Yanks
- 4:56Speaker 1: in the past few days. And also we learned about
- 4:59Speaker 1: the whole vulpy shol thing today too, which we can
- 5:01Speaker 1: get into. But I would like to start with the Tigers.
- 5:04Speaker 1: The Tigers have the best record in the American League
- 5:06Speaker 1: and they are playing for something right now. Number one,
- 5:08Speaker 1: they're playing for a bye in the first round and
- 5:11Speaker 1: they're well on their way. And number two a team
- 5:14Speaker 1: with a very good home record that played well the
- 5:16Speaker 1: last couple of games on the road against the Yankees
- 5:18Speaker 1: would also like to have home field advantage in the
- 5:20Speaker 1: American League. They are sending a statement. The last couple
- 5:23Speaker 1: of days.
- 5:26Speaker 2: They are they're beating up on the Yankee bullpen. The
- 5:28Speaker 2: starters have been fine for the Yankees. It's been the
- 5:30Speaker 2: bullpen major problem, whether it's walks or hits. Like it
- 5:34Speaker 2: was last time, it was just hits. They just got
- 5:36Speaker 2: hit around. They got whacked, but the night before was walks.
- 5:39Speaker 2: The start okay, But the Tigers are sending a message
- 5:42Speaker 2: and right now they're the one seed in the American League.
- 5:44Speaker 2: They have the best record in the American League. And
- 5:47Speaker 2: as of right now, the American League goes to Detroit
- 5:49Speaker 2: and the Yankees can say whatever they want and you
- 5:52Speaker 2: know about this or that, but at the end of
- 5:53Speaker 2: the day, the Tigers right now are showing a better team.
- 5:57Speaker 2: The Tigers won the season series for them the first
- 5:59Speaker 2: time in twenty eleven, So the Tigers are it right
- 6:02Speaker 2: now in the American Definitely.
- 6:06Speaker 3: I mean the Tigers needed to have in my opinion,
- 6:09Speaker 3: it needed to have a showcase series like this where
- 6:13Speaker 3: they ended up doing what they did and it was
- 6:17Speaker 3: in different ways like normally when you look at playoff
- 6:20Speaker 3: teams and they're playing better teams. It's like, ah, you know,
- 6:23Speaker 3: if you can't beat them your way, then how are
- 6:25Speaker 3: you going to beat them? Haven't needed Trek Scubel to
- 6:28Speaker 3: beat them. They've taken their walks. When the bullpen came in,
- 6:33Speaker 3: they've annihilated the ball when the bullpen came in. To me,
- 6:37Speaker 3: it looked like the Yankees weren't one hundred percent matching
- 6:43Speaker 3: up very well with the moves that aj Hinch was
- 6:46Speaker 3: making or the way that the Tigers line up with
- 6:49Speaker 3: structured And I'm not saying it's a boon thing. I'm
- 6:51Speaker 3: saying it's a like, how do how do the Yankees
- 6:54Speaker 3: line up? The Yankees have a lot of questions. They
- 6:56Speaker 3: came through a stretch where they are winning a lot
- 6:58Speaker 3: of games. Then they play the Blue Jays. Everyone's like, oh,
- 7:01Speaker 3: it's a good team. You're not gonna be able to
- 7:02Speaker 3: beat them. They won two out of three, and this
- 7:05Speaker 3: is another test for the Yankees. What do they learn
- 7:09Speaker 3: from this series and how do they remember that when
- 7:13Speaker 3: they face them in the playoffs. If they're able to
- 7:15Speaker 3: advance to the DS to face the Tigers.
- 7:19Speaker 1: How much do you like the Tigers in general Krafts.
- 7:22Speaker 1: I mean last year, this was the shocking storyline down
- 7:25Speaker 1: the stretch around this time where this team looked out
- 7:28Speaker 1: of it. They sold at the deadline. That includes Shack Pliardy,
- 7:31Speaker 1: who's now back with the team. So it all comes
- 7:33Speaker 1: full circle right now and they currently hold the best
- 7:36Speaker 1: record in the American League in the middle of September.
- 7:39Speaker 1: So how scary is this team in your mind?
- 7:43Speaker 3: I mean, they show they have different facets, different ways
- 7:45Speaker 3: of winning. I actually picked the Tigers last year to
- 7:49Speaker 3: beat the Astros in the first series because I felt like.
- 7:52Speaker 2: When you have a ace.
- 7:53Speaker 3: Like Trek Scougle, you can go out and you can
- 7:57Speaker 3: you can beat a team quick in a three game series.
- 8:00Speaker 3: I think they're a better team than they were last year.
- 8:04Speaker 3: Are they good enough to withstand kind of a slow stretch.
- 8:10Speaker 3: Are they getting hot coming into the playoffs even though
- 8:13Speaker 3: they're going to have that buy maybe you know, home
- 8:17Speaker 3: field advantage. If they can keep this up, that's gonna
- 8:21Speaker 3: be my biggest question. Again, the American League is not
- 8:23Speaker 3: that great compared to the National League, But I think
- 8:28Speaker 3: right now, I don't know if the Tigers are still
- 8:31Speaker 3: the best team in the American League.
- 8:33Speaker 2: I get it.
- 8:34Speaker 3: They have the best record, and I don't have a
- 8:37Speaker 3: concrete reason of why they're not the best team. I
- 8:39Speaker 3: just see too many teams. Blue Jays were doing really good.
- 8:43Speaker 3: I love the Mariners, and then they started going off,
- 8:45Speaker 3: and then the Tigers are back up. I don't know
- 8:48Speaker 3: if the Tigers are the best.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Time for your weekly Arena Club segment where we see
- 8:54Speaker 1: what AJ pulls from a slab pack and we go
- 9:00Speaker 1: pull a little Emerald pack this week. AJ looking for
- 9:03Speaker 1: something big always.
- 9:05Speaker 2: I'm always looking for the big thing. Next big thing's.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Got big money, big money.
- 9:08Speaker 2: Baby.
- 9:10Speaker 1: We've got a Dave Winfield card from nineteen to seventy four,
- 9:14Speaker 1: seventy four tops card from this Emerald pack. Estimated value
- 9:18Speaker 1: three hundred bucks. You could sell it back for two
- 9:22Speaker 1: seventy sold sold. I feel like you are into more
- 9:26Speaker 1: of the current players. Would that be accurate?
- 9:28Speaker 2: You like legend In my showroom, I have a Robin
- 9:30Speaker 2: you out, I have a Griffy Rookie card.
- 9:32Speaker 1: I think that's true.
- 9:33Speaker 2: So I mean I have some older vintageer players.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Bob Gibson, Oh yeah, you have Gibson, So I know.
- 9:38Speaker 2: I disagree Scott, But Dave Winfield for that amount of
- 9:41Speaker 2: money back. I'm reselling it.
- 9:43Speaker 1: And if you want to get your own pack or
- 9:45Speaker 1: new card, you can get twenty percent off your first
- 9:48Speaker 1: slab pack or card purchase at arenaclub dot com. Slash
- 9:51Speaker 1: foul for me aj, I think the Tigers will go
- 9:55Speaker 1: as their starting pitching goes. And I know this sounds weird,
- 9:59Speaker 1: but it's one thing to do what they did for
- 10:02Speaker 1: half of the postseason last year, but to go the
- 10:05Speaker 1: distance and actually win a World Series, generally you need
- 10:08Speaker 1: at least three good starters, right, I mean, Dodgers won
- 10:12Speaker 1: last year. They were rocking some bullpen games, taking some
- 10:14Speaker 1: l's at times, but.
- 10:15Speaker 2: They still had They still had some starters. Though they
- 10:18Speaker 2: know I'm saying thing. It wasn't they did.
- 10:21Speaker 1: That's my point. Yeah, they still had.
- 10:23Speaker 2: Thirty was a huge for him, Yamamoto pitch all for him.
- 10:26Speaker 2: I mean, listen, it wasn't like they were completely naked
- 10:28Speaker 2: out there. They had some starters.
- 10:30Speaker 1: That's my point. So my point with Detroit is it's
- 10:33Speaker 1: one thing to get through a short series and for
- 10:35Speaker 1: Terrek School to be Trek School, but if you're going
- 10:37Speaker 1: to actually win a World Series, you do need in
- 10:40Speaker 1: my mind, usually three starters and they have that capability
- 10:45Speaker 1: right for me, Schoobl of course.
- 10:50Speaker 2: And then Mice, Casey Mice. Let's not forget about Casey Meyce.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Casey has been really good for him this year was
- 10:54Speaker 2: an All Star I mean Jack Flairty, but eight and
- 10:56Speaker 2: thirteen of the four to six nine that shouldn't be
- 10:58Speaker 2: that way. I'm sorry, but he's great because he was
- 11:00Speaker 2: motivated last night because he was going to get a team.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Then I don't fail it's physical. Casey may is fourteen
- 11:05Speaker 2: and five of the three eight e R He's pretty good.
- 11:08Speaker 2: It's not like he's he's pretty good. He made the
- 11:10Speaker 2: All Star team, the suvers the one to one for reason.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Casey Mees isn't isn't a schmuck. And then you obviously
- 11:16Speaker 2: you have Schoobl who's probably gonna win the cy Young Again.
- 11:20Speaker 2: The question is is if they get into a seven
- 11:22Speaker 2: game series, this is where they got They get caught
- 11:25Speaker 2: sometimes this seven game series because when you have to
- 11:28Speaker 2: use your bullpen as much as they rely on their bullpen.
- 11:31Speaker 2: I guess Charlie Morton would be the guy. If Charlie
- 11:33Speaker 2: Morton's is most healthy, would be their fourth guy. But
- 11:37Speaker 2: he's been pretty good the second half or since about
- 11:39Speaker 2: his first five starts, so they get trouble and they
- 11:43Speaker 2: have to use it over use their bullpen. They have
- 11:45Speaker 2: to be able to use their start and Schooble flairy
- 11:47Speaker 2: mice is a good reason to start with. And then
- 11:50Speaker 2: if you have Charlie Morton, you do it. But then
- 11:53Speaker 2: you know you have Schooble coming back in game five,
- 11:54Speaker 2: as long as you can line it up that way, right,
- 11:57Speaker 2: if they go into a five game series and they
- 11:59Speaker 2: win in five, Scooble has to pitch game five, well,
- 12:01Speaker 2: then and they win, then they have to go to
- 12:03Speaker 2: seven game series. Well, then you don't get Scoble to
- 12:05Speaker 2: game three or game four. That's when it can catch
- 12:08Speaker 2: the Tigers.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, that's my point is I think you've got
- 12:12Speaker 1: three names that you might feel good about, and if
- 12:14Speaker 1: those two names after Schooble perform, well you can make
- 12:18Speaker 1: a serious run. I'm not on the Morton, but I
- 12:20Speaker 1: think it contributed innings, but wouldn't feel comfortable about him
- 12:23Speaker 1: starting a playoff game. I know he's had some good
- 12:26Speaker 1: outings right when he got dealt over there some crappier
- 12:29Speaker 1: addings lately, but at least three starters that you feel
- 12:32Speaker 1: pretty good about if you're a Tigers fan. Let's get
- 12:35Speaker 1: to the Yankee side of the equation here. Of course,
- 12:38Speaker 1: the bullpen gets smoked the last couple of days. Kratz.
- 12:41Speaker 1: I'm gonna go right to the storyline about Bulpy. I
- 12:44Speaker 1: know we've been talking about him a lot, but this
- 12:45Speaker 1: is fresh news. Joel Sherman reported that he was given
- 12:48Speaker 1: a shot in his left shoulder, the one that he
- 12:50Speaker 1: heard pop in May, and then Brian Hook added was
- 12:54Speaker 1: a cortisone injection, and when Aaron Boone was asked about
- 12:58Speaker 1: Bulpey's shoulder yesterday, he called I'm a very tough kid
- 13:01Speaker 1: and a gamer, adding he doesn't believe the shoulder has
- 13:03Speaker 1: impacted Volpi's play quote. I don't think so, but I
- 13:06Speaker 1: guess I shouldn't rule it out. Of course people are
- 13:09Speaker 1: jumping on it like May, and like was the shot
- 13:15Speaker 1: in May? And why is this coming up now?
- 13:19Speaker 2: What ivopie say? What ivopie say?
- 13:23Speaker 3: It's a prime It's a prime case of what he
- 13:27Speaker 3: what did he say? Is he going to play through it?
- 13:30Speaker 3: Guys play through things all the time. Guys maybe sometimes
- 13:34Speaker 3: in their detriment, not always like their playing ability goes down,
- 13:37Speaker 3: but like something else gets worse, you know. So yeah,
- 13:45Speaker 3: look like when when stuff like this comes out and
- 13:48Speaker 3: it's that it's happening in May, fans are going to
- 13:51Speaker 3: be irate about it. But you're also you it's hard
- 13:55Speaker 3: to take somebody out of the lineup when they feel
- 13:58Speaker 3: like they are one of the better players or the
- 14:00Speaker 3: best option for that team in that situation, You're going
- 14:04Speaker 3: to play through things like anything like Volpi did a
- 14:07Speaker 3: lot of really good things since May too. Did that
- 14:11Speaker 3: cause his eighteen errors? Did that cause his you know
- 14:16Speaker 3: slumps and swinging? I don't know, this is a hymn question.
- 14:21Speaker 3: Why don't we hear from him about it?
- 14:24Speaker 1: Oh? You know the questions they are going to be
- 14:26Speaker 1: coming in hot.
- 14:30Speaker 3: Right totally. But I know Chase Utley, and I've brought
- 14:35Speaker 3: this up before. He had major knee pain, played through
- 14:40Speaker 3: I'm sorry, he had major hip pain, played through it.
- 14:43Speaker 3: They won a World Series and he ended up needing
- 14:48Speaker 3: needing stuff done to his knees. What exactly he got done?
- 14:50Speaker 3: But they said because of playing through the hip, he
- 14:54Speaker 3: caused knee issues. You're talking about a guy that could
- 14:58Speaker 3: have been a fringe Hall of Famer that if he
- 15:00Speaker 3: had been able to sit out get the hip fixed,
- 15:05Speaker 3: maybe it wouldn't have led to the knee stuff. Maybe
- 15:07Speaker 3: he would have had more of a long, productive career
- 15:11Speaker 3: instead of just a long career where he kind of,
- 15:13Speaker 3: you know, was a role player at the end. And
- 15:17Speaker 3: that whole season nobody knew about it. They won the
- 15:19Speaker 3: World Series, So that was a successful decision. If the
- 15:22Speaker 3: Yankees end up winning the World Series this year and
- 15:24Speaker 3: Anthony Volpi has anything to do with it, him not
- 15:27Speaker 3: getting shoulder surgery or him playing through the shoulder pain.
- 15:31Speaker 2: It's worth it.
- 15:32Speaker 3: This is the reality of sport of baseball, and I'm
- 15:36Speaker 3: sure it's every other sport. Guys play through things. Sometimes
- 15:40Speaker 3: it affects their play, sometimes it doesn't.
- 15:43Speaker 1: We just went over an extreme case of this. Sean
- 15:46Speaker 1: Murphy needed significant surgery on his hip. For years, it's
- 15:53Speaker 1: been a problem and then it escalated lately and he
- 15:55Speaker 1: finally said uncle and got it checked out. Hey, we
- 16:00Speaker 1: have a tweet about Brian Snitker and AJ did you
- 16:03Speaker 1: play for him or you were Freddy Gonzalez when you
- 16:06Speaker 1: were with the Braves.
- 16:07Speaker 2: No, I was there when snid first came up. I
- 16:09Speaker 2: was a Pittsburgh when he won his first game. Yeah,
- 16:13Speaker 2: I was there, so I played for him for not long,
- 16:15Speaker 2: but for I don't know that season. He came up
- 16:19Speaker 2: I think in May and he was there till the end.
- 16:20Speaker 2: So that was my last year. By the way, yesterday
- 16:22Speaker 2: was my last game nine years ago. It was an anniversary,
- 16:25Speaker 2: so happy anniversary.
- 16:25Speaker 1: That was September tenth. Was it your last day?
- 16:29Speaker 2: Nice?
- 16:29Speaker 1: Happy anniversary?
- 16:31Speaker 2: Yeah? Thanks? How many of us canna say we got
- 16:33Speaker 2: to walk off hit where we won the game? Like,
- 16:35Speaker 2: oh wait, except Dancy Swanson didn't score from second oops. Sorry, sorry, Dance.
- 16:39Speaker 1: We need to bring dance me on to talk about that.
- 16:41Speaker 1: I'm waiting for that conversation.
- 16:43Speaker 2: So you gotta hit, that's fair, you gotta hit. Yeah,
- 16:47Speaker 2: I got a hit. But I thought I thought Dancy
- 16:50Speaker 2: was hot. You know, it was fast, but apparently not.
- 16:53Speaker 2: You know, I don't know. Whatever, It's fine. They were
- 16:54Speaker 2: trying to hold me down. It's cool, but yeah it
- 16:57Speaker 2: was great. Listen. I didn't I didn't love Snid I'll
- 17:01Speaker 2: be honest, Like it's stin. I've had conversation about this.
- 17:03Speaker 2: I didn't love Snit. When he first came over, he
- 17:04Speaker 2: was overwhelmed and he didn't really know what he was doing.
- 17:07Speaker 2: He was kind of put in a terrible spot. They
- 17:09Speaker 2: wanted to get rid of Freddy and they brought Snid in.
- 17:11Speaker 2: But he did a really good job and he's been
- 17:13Speaker 2: awesome since. And I have nothing but respect for Brian
- 17:15Speaker 2: Snicker and what he's done. He's won a World Series,
- 17:18Speaker 2: he's been in the Braves organization for forty nine years.
- 17:20Speaker 2: He should get the right to go for fifty next year,
- 17:23Speaker 2: and I hope he does. I hope he does it
- 17:24Speaker 2: because fifty years in one organization is absolutely incredible. So Snid,
- 17:28Speaker 2: come back next year. You guys will be better. You
- 17:30Speaker 2: won't have these injuries. And if you come back, you
- 17:32Speaker 2: can prove Claudia wrong than us. She thinks you guys
- 17:34Speaker 2: are gonna stink again.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Yeah, and the news was he doesn't know what he's
- 17:38Speaker 1: doing yet, but it sounds like he doesn't want to
- 17:41Speaker 1: end his career as a manager with this kind of season,
- 17:43Speaker 1: So I'm thinking one more year. We are longtime fans

- 18:12Speaker 2: days because we used to survive on this and get
- 18:14Speaker 2: a big order at the beginning of the year, cook
- 18:16Speaker 2: them on our little electra grill canapeas so mac and cheese.
- 18:19Speaker 2: That was dinner for four. We survived off Omaha Steaks.
- 18:22Speaker 2: It still has a special place in my heart.

- 18:45Speaker 1: see site for details. Dig in or all this Chapman
- 18:48Speaker 1: finally gave up. I look too big? Here we go
- 18:50Speaker 1: or all this Chapman finally gave up a hit. I
- 18:54Speaker 1: don't run a hit. Obviously gave up a run too,
- 18:56Speaker 1: AJ But we've been covering this for a minute. First
- 18:59Speaker 1: hit allowed since July twenty third, that was she Langeleier's
- 19:03Speaker 1: and then Lawrence Butler later walked him off. So ra
- 19:07Speaker 1: all this Chapman after months, proves human.
- 19:12Speaker 2: It was gonna happen. It was gonna happen. By the
- 19:15Speaker 2: way I saw this, fifty consecutive people retired. There was Walks,
- 19:18Speaker 2: and we had this conversation. Yeah, it wasn't fifty it
- 19:21Speaker 2: was fifty consecutive outs without a hit. Like, let's get
- 19:23Speaker 2: it straight, because I remember Barley and Bobby Jenks at
- 19:26Speaker 2: one time had the longest consecutive batters retired streak of
- 19:29Speaker 2: all time. So like, you know, it wasn't fifty consecuted.
- 19:32Speaker 2: It was fifty guys without getting a hit, which is cool.
- 19:34Speaker 2: But yeah, he was on fire. He was gonna give
- 19:36Speaker 2: it up eventually, everyone does. I mean, the greatest of
- 19:38Speaker 2: all time have given up. Mariano Rivera's given it up,
- 19:41Speaker 2: Trevor Hoffin's given it up. Cosse last year gave it up.
- 19:44Speaker 2: It was a great run and he's still one of
- 19:46Speaker 2: the best pitchers, if not the best reliever in the
- 19:47Speaker 2: American League. So yeah, the A's finally got to him.
- 19:50Speaker 2: They's somebody finally got to him, and it took a
- 19:52Speaker 2: couple of hits and left on left for Butler. Good
- 19:54Speaker 2: good for him, man.
- 19:56Speaker 3: Yeah, the lull Dog was definitely, I mean, that was
- 19:59Speaker 3: that was a tough app But tie ball game. It's
- 20:03Speaker 3: like one of those things where it's like closers rarely
- 20:07Speaker 3: do well in when they're in the game and they're
- 20:11Speaker 3: losing tie ball game, it feels like sometimes that's when
- 20:15Speaker 3: they give it up. But also like you're gonna give
- 20:18Speaker 3: it up. You're gonna be the You're gonna be the
- 20:20Speaker 3: goat for saving the game, or you're gonna be the
- 20:23Speaker 3: one that is forever. Remember that's the life of a closer,
- 20:27Speaker 3: and that's the only life that champions lived.
- 20:41Speaker 1: Let's say better than box scores and recovering the Seattle
- 20:44Speaker 1: Mariners and they are back on track. Guys, as expected.
- 20:48Speaker 1: You just need to get home, get home, pick up
- 20:51Speaker 1: some walkoff dubs. So Leo Revas in the bottom of
- 20:55Speaker 1: the thirteenth gets the job done. First pitch dinger maybe
- 20:59Speaker 1: not a name that most of you know, but the
- 21:02Speaker 1: Mariners players seemed to speak glowingly about him and how
- 21:05Speaker 1: happy they were that he came through. I think the
- 21:08Speaker 1: funny part for me AJ is he was practicing bunting
- 21:12Speaker 1: leading up to this ab behind the scenes. Actually, we
- 21:16Speaker 1: do have a clip of him talking about it, So
- 21:18Speaker 1: let's do that first and then we'll react. I was
- 21:23Speaker 1: trying to bunt, but they tell me, don't bunt, just swing.
- 21:26Speaker 2: I'm like, all right, I was just trying to move
- 21:29Speaker 2: him over and I didn't even see.
- 21:32Speaker 1: The first basement was so close. So the guy hit
- 21:35Speaker 1: it in there. You know, if you know, it could
- 21:36Speaker 1: have been worse. When did you get the signal to
- 21:39Speaker 1: swing away?
- 21:40Speaker 2: Why you're in the batters?
- 21:41Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, because like every probably every time in baseball
- 21:46Speaker 3: in that situation, you.
- 21:47Speaker 1: Had to bump, Yeah, every time. Even I was trying.
- 21:50Speaker 1: I was practicing bund in the case though, well, while
- 21:53Speaker 1: they were on defense, I was trying to make bunny
- 21:55Speaker 1: all right, let's see thet's see. And then they tell me, hey,
- 21:58Speaker 1: you gotta swing, just.
- 21:59Speaker 2: Move them on.
- 22:00Speaker 1: I'm like, that's crazy. That was that was amazing. Yet
- 22:06Speaker 1: that's cool and a J While you react to this,
- 22:10Speaker 1: we can show the photo of how close the first
- 22:13Speaker 1: basement was to Leo Rivas when he was given the
- 22:16Speaker 1: green light.
- 22:21Speaker 2: It was awesome. Yeah, I mean first basement. Wow, that
- 22:26Speaker 2: is uh, that is right in your face. I don't know,
- 22:28Speaker 2: is that Contreras playing first right there? Who is that
- 22:30Speaker 2: playing first? Right in? Contra suspended though? I thought he
- 22:35Speaker 2: got suspended or did he appeal? Did he appeal his appeal? No? Yeah,
- 22:40Speaker 2: it was Contrara's Yeah, that is too close for comfort.
- 22:43Speaker 2: And you know what, they weren't expecting him to go deep.
- 22:46Speaker 2: He hit a homework. Good for him, man, good for
- 22:47Speaker 2: the kid, and in a huge pen or raise people.
- 22:49Speaker 2: This is These are the kind of things that if
- 22:51Speaker 2: the Mariner is going to make the make a run
- 22:54Speaker 2: and make the postseason to make a run, it's it's
- 22:56Speaker 2: a bats like this that people remember forever. So good
- 22:58Speaker 2: for mister Revos. And man, I would not have been
- 23:00Speaker 2: to controllers because I would have been like, this is way
- 23:02Speaker 2: too close for comfort right here. Geez.
- 23:05Speaker 3: I mean they just they said, hey, you're gonna you're
- 23:08Speaker 3: gonna take away the bunt. Well they did, and Revas
- 23:11Speaker 3: for everybody out there, kids, he was told to get
- 23:15Speaker 3: get the job done, get the runner over. That means
- 23:18Speaker 3: he has to pull the ball on the right side,
- 23:20Speaker 3: which also means you gotta catch the ball out in front.
- 23:23Speaker 3: What happens when you catch the ball in front, Sometimes
- 23:26Speaker 3: it goes out of the ballpark. But exactly what AJ said,
- 23:29Speaker 3: there's gonna be fans in Seattle no matter what kind
- 23:31Speaker 3: of run they make. This is a playoff season. It's
- 23:34Speaker 3: making memories for fans. They're gonna be like, oh man,
- 23:39Speaker 3: what was it, Louis Revas, Louis Leo, Leo Revas, Leo Revas.
- 23:43Speaker 2: Oh, that was my guy. Ooh.
- 23:44Speaker 3: He was like twenty seven years old, barely made the
- 23:47Speaker 3: big leagues. He was twenty six, Like you remember stories
- 23:51Speaker 3: like this, and it's nights like this thirteenth inning.
- 23:54Speaker 1: It was so sick, it's crazy. We entered the month
- 23:59Speaker 1: AJ looking at races that were me in terms of
- 24:04Speaker 1: who's getting in and who's not. And the National League's
- 24:07Speaker 1: getting more and more interesting. On the American League side,
- 24:09Speaker 1: we've been covering Texas. That's probably the best shot of
- 24:13Speaker 1: sneaking in past not necessarily Seattle. Seattle's one game back
- 24:18Speaker 1: of Houston, so they've got a shot to catch them.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Uh yeah, Texas is right there too. Texas just swept
- 24:26Speaker 2: the Brewers. So it's amazing though. How a week ago
- 24:30Speaker 2: we're like, oh, the races are done. It's all about positioning,
- 24:32Speaker 2: and now all of a sudden you're like, hmm, could
- 24:34Speaker 2: some team sneak in the National League. One is the
- 24:36Speaker 2: one that's crazy to me because they went from the
- 24:39Speaker 2: Mets were what five four, five, six games up no
- 24:41Speaker 2: long ago, and now it's two and they don't have
- 24:43Speaker 2: the tiebreaker. We just had Will Salmon on he's he's
- 24:47Speaker 2: got to be sweating. The Mets got to be sweating.
- 24:48Speaker 2: We love Mendy, but man, I think if you if
- 24:51Speaker 2: you ask him for real, Mendy's sweating a little bit
- 24:54Speaker 2: right now. And I don't know how they turn it
- 24:56Speaker 2: around because their pitching is so banged up. I don't know.
- 24:59Speaker 2: But they got to get out of Fielladelphia. They need
- 25:00Speaker 2: to win today in Philadelphia. They got to win tonight
- 25:03Speaker 2: on Fox. Kenny Rosenthal be there is get their good
- 25:05Speaker 2: luck charm. He can he can give him some good
- 25:07Speaker 2: luck and maybe he can find Grimace and they can
- 25:09Speaker 2: hang out together. But they got a win tonight in
- 25:11Speaker 2: Philadelphia and then get some start seconds and wins. Matt's
- 25:15Speaker 2: nada gimmick. Matt's neda gimmick. That's it.
- 25:19Speaker 1: That's last year.
- 25:20Speaker 3: Last year they had like six gimmicks, the pumpkin Grandma's omg.
- 25:28Speaker 2: They got their best guy going. Listen. They got the
- 25:30Speaker 2: guy who's been the best for them all year. They
- 25:32Speaker 2: got Peterson going tonight against Lazardo and Lozardo's been good,
- 25:36Speaker 2: but Peterson's been their guy. They they got to win
- 25:38Speaker 2: this game tonight before they where are they going? Then?
- 25:41Speaker 2: They got Texas coming in with the Grom. They get
- 25:43Speaker 2: to Groham tomorrow so in his homecoming to New York.
- 25:46Speaker 2: So they need to win tonight. They need to win
- 25:50Speaker 2: tonight because tomorrow is Tong versus the Graham, and I
- 25:52Speaker 2: would think he would like the Graham's chances tomorrow night.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Hey guys, what do we have on Paul Skian's getting
- 25:59Speaker 1: the load management situation? Yesterday pulled his team ultimately loses.
- 26:05Speaker 1: The Oils are pulling a bunch of walk offs lately.
- 26:07Speaker 1: But he had eight punchouts aj and they only let
- 26:09Speaker 1: him go sixty four pitches. I mean, their season has
- 26:13Speaker 1: been over for a long time, but I guess they're
- 26:15Speaker 1: just trying to keep him in check to get through
- 26:17Speaker 1: the end of the year.
- 26:18Speaker 2: Why why not just let him roll, let him see
- 26:21Speaker 2: what he can do so next year he can build
- 26:22Speaker 2: him up again. I mean, geez, it's not like he's
- 26:25Speaker 2: struggling this year. He's got a one one one, what's it,
- 26:28Speaker 2: one nine one nine.
- 26:33Speaker 1: First this year? Yeah, yeah, this year, one.
- 26:38Speaker 2: Nine two this year in one hundred and seventy eight innings.
- 26:41Speaker 2: Uh yeah, let's let's look, let's let him get a
- 26:43Speaker 2: couple more. I mean, he probably has the cy Young
- 26:45Speaker 2: wrapped up in the National League, but it would be
- 26:48Speaker 2: cool if he could get to two hundred innings and
- 26:51Speaker 2: you know how many of her strikeouts he has and
- 26:53Speaker 2: all those numbers, Because it's just an awesome story. The plairates.
- 26:56Speaker 2: You have one thing going for you right now. You
- 26:58Speaker 2: got one thing going for you right now, Pittsburgh, it's
- 27:00Speaker 2: all Schemes. Let him ride. Let's ride.
- 27:03Speaker 3: No, no, no, no, no. They know better. They have handled
- 27:07Speaker 3: pictures in history. They have handled pictures so much better.
- 27:10Speaker 3: And everybody else they have kept them all healthy. They
- 27:14Speaker 3: know what they're doing. There's no way Paul Schemes could
- 27:17Speaker 3: have survived two more innings of pitching. There's just no way.
- 27:21Speaker 3: I'm sure it's it's just the best thing for them.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Yeah, Baba Chandler.
- 27:28Speaker 2: What what did? What did? Well? Bubba Chandler got hit
- 27:31Speaker 2: his first start, so they're probably never going to start
- 27:33Speaker 2: him again. Oh my, I can't, I can't, I can't.
- 27:37Speaker 2: That was all sarcasm.
- 27:38Speaker 1: People, we spend a lot of time on the road.

- 28:38Speaker 1: This has been your tech update. Keep your data safe. Okay,
- 28:41Speaker 1: So the Dodgers are gaining some separation here in the division.
- 28:45Speaker 1: They're up three games on the Padres, and it's time
- 28:47Speaker 1: to remind everyone about tie breakers. They're really up four
- 28:50Speaker 1: games on the Padres because they won the season series.
- 28:53Speaker 1: Tough loss for them yesterday. They brought an Adrian Morihone
- 28:56Speaker 1: to try and pick out a what was it four
- 28:58Speaker 1: or five out save, ends up giving up a couple
- 29:00Speaker 1: of runs. Although I will say it's not like the
- 29:03Speaker 1: Reds torched them. They had a couple bleeders that went
- 29:06Speaker 1: through for them, but that's that's how the game works.
- 29:09Speaker 1: They got them. They had the bunt hit plus the
- 29:11Speaker 1: two bleeders. Abbott was great on the Red side, Nick
- 29:16Speaker 1: Povetta pitch well on the San Diego side. But AJ,
- 29:19Speaker 1: it looks like the Dodgers are going to take the division.
- 29:22Speaker 2: I don't. I don't really think we're too worried about that.
- 29:24Speaker 2: But here here's my here's my real, my real question.
- 29:27Speaker 2: The night before they threw Suarez Ann Miller, so they
- 29:30Speaker 2: were shut down. I know they have an unbelievable bullpen,
- 29:32Speaker 2: but sometimes you got to save bullets, you know, and
- 29:35Speaker 2: last two nights ago they didn't, and then that led
- 29:38Speaker 2: to more hone having to do what he did. So
- 29:40Speaker 2: I don't know. I'm not fully into their bullpen management,
- 29:43Speaker 2: but sometimes they don't exactly. Sometimes I think make sure
- 29:46Speaker 2: just goes for it, and there are times where you
- 29:48Speaker 2: got to take a step back and say, all right,
- 29:49Speaker 2: we can win this game, maybe without using all of
- 29:51Speaker 2: our bullets. I don't know.
- 29:53Speaker 1: Yeah, they had a lot of na yesterday, a lot
- 29:56Speaker 1: of not available from the big boys.
- 30:01Speaker 3: It's all part of this is this stuff comes. Everybody
- 30:04Speaker 3: has to be when you play a bullpen game. I'm
- 30:06Speaker 3: not saying that's what they have to play, but in
- 30:08Speaker 3: the playoffs, most likely that's how they're set up, and
- 30:10Speaker 3: everybody has to.
- 30:11Speaker 2: Be on one guy.
- 30:13Speaker 3: One guy has a little hiccup playing against another playoff team,
- 30:19Speaker 3: it could spell doom.
- 30:25Speaker 1: Hey, this is big news out of Baltimore for those
- 30:28Speaker 1: frustrated Orioles fans that have been calling for the job
- 30:32Speaker 1: of the leader of their front office. Think again. He
- 30:35Speaker 1: actually was promoted before this season started. Michael Elias is
- 30:39Speaker 1: now the president of the team's baseball operations department, and
- 30:43Speaker 1: they are looking to expand the front office and hire
- 30:46Speaker 1: a general manager underneath him. They've already been expanding, as
- 30:50Speaker 1: they added an assistant to the general manager who came
- 30:53Speaker 1: over from the Washington Nationals, their scouting director, Danny hasp
- 30:56Speaker 1: But let's start with the big portion of the news here. Aja.
- 30:59Speaker 1: I mean, it definitely dominated talk shows in Baltimore as
- 31:03Speaker 1: the season fell apart pretty quickly. They're like, is Michael
- 31:07Speaker 1: Lias going to be working on another off season for Baltimore?
- 31:10Speaker 1: How about a Hell? Yes, he's actually promoted right before
- 31:13Speaker 1: this season started.
- 31:15Speaker 2: How come this is just coming out now? Though? That's
- 31:17Speaker 2: what I want to know. They wound out, I know,
- 31:19Speaker 2: but why why is this not? Why is this not
- 31:22Speaker 2: talked about all the time, like Whire's front office salaries
- 31:26Speaker 2: in front office contracts kept so secret, not just in
- 31:29Speaker 2: baseball but in every sport. If players contracts should be
- 31:31Speaker 2: out there, so it should be front office team people,
- 31:34Speaker 2: and so should presidents and all that. I don't understand
- 31:36Speaker 2: why this is such a secret and it's coming out now.
- 31:38Speaker 2: But Michaelias is the power and he ain't going anywhere
- 31:41Speaker 2: anytime soon. People, So I hope you like him.
- 31:46Speaker 3: What if GM gets more leeway into making a little
- 31:51Speaker 3: bit better signings in the off season, spending the money
- 31:56Speaker 3: that the ownership has given you a little bit better
- 31:59Speaker 3: than they did. I know they missed out on a
- 32:01Speaker 3: couple signings that they didn't ultimately go and use their
- 32:06Speaker 3: a lot of money for. It was a lost season.
- 32:09Speaker 3: Do I think Michael Lias has done better for this
- 32:11Speaker 3: organization than worse?
- 32:13Speaker 2: Yes? I do. Do.
- 32:15Speaker 3: I think he should be an unchecked resource of free
- 32:21Speaker 3: agent signings. No, his history has been developing talent. I
- 32:27Speaker 3: think they have developed talent. I'm not going to argue
- 32:30Speaker 3: is it this most amazing talent ever? No, I'm not
- 32:34Speaker 3: gonna argue that. But you have to get people to
- 32:36Speaker 3: get across the finish line. And hopefully as a president
- 32:39Speaker 3: of Baseball Operations, he's willing to ask that question of
- 32:43Speaker 3: his new GM whoever, whoever that is, and whatever that
- 32:46Speaker 3: role's going to be, is he going to ask that question?
- 32:50Speaker 2: Hey? Am I doing this right? Should we be looking
- 32:52Speaker 2: at something else to make the big league team better?
- 32:56Speaker 1: I think the GM is just going to be a
- 32:58Speaker 1: helpful component to the way the front of office operates.
- 33:00Speaker 1: The GM's not making the final call on anything big.
- 33:03Speaker 1: That's the president and the owner.
- 33:06Speaker 2: But that's why.
- 33:07Speaker 3: But that's why teams like the Rays, and I know
- 33:09Speaker 3: the Rays are small market, but everybody sits there and goes,
- 33:11Speaker 3: we want to be the race. You want to be
- 33:13Speaker 3: the raise. You have to get your ego out of it.
- 33:16Speaker 3: How many times do we hear ego come into play
- 33:19Speaker 3: with the race? No, because there's there's just that's how
- 33:23Speaker 3: they operate. Everybody has a say. Ultimately, there's decision makers
- 33:28Speaker 3: in the end, but everybody truly feels all the way
- 33:31Speaker 3: down to the third hitting coach, the assistant to the
- 33:35Speaker 3: assistant hitting coach, has a say if they feel like
- 33:39Speaker 3: there's a margin that they can get better, if they
- 33:42Speaker 3: feel like there's a player that could be brought into
- 33:45Speaker 3: to fill a hole that that they that they aren't
- 33:48Speaker 3: able to fill in the roster, to make the big
- 33:50Speaker 3: league roster better. And that is what, in my opinion,
- 33:54Speaker 3: the best teams do that have the best Yes, it's
- 33:57Speaker 3: still hierarchy, but everybody, everybody's feelings and decisions and once
- 34:03Speaker 3: and desires are are at least heard.
- 34:07Speaker 1: I think fans should be entitled to knowing, yes, what
- 34:10Speaker 1: the money looks like, but even more importantly, what the
- 34:13Speaker 1: years look like on contracts for significant front office executives.
- 34:17Speaker 1: AYJ what if the Oriols have another down year and
- 34:21Speaker 1: missed the playoffs next year? But maybe Michael las signed
- 34:24Speaker 1: a five year contract. I have no idea. We don't know.
- 34:27Speaker 1: As far as I know, it didn't say anything in
- 34:29Speaker 1: the article. This was Ken and Ken, Rosendald Bridgeierli and
- 34:32Speaker 1: the athletic doing a great job of it. But we
- 34:34Speaker 1: don't know.
- 34:35Speaker 2: So why do we not know? That's what I understand.
- 34:38Speaker 2: Why do we not know? Why can we not Why
- 34:41Speaker 2: can we not find this information out? Why would they
- 34:43Speaker 2: not tell us this information? It's the same in every sport,
- 34:46Speaker 2: though it happens in every sport, everything sport you follow.
- 34:49Speaker 2: They're like, oh, by the way, so and so signed
- 34:50Speaker 2: a contract extension last year. Why the hell didn't we
- 34:53Speaker 2: know this when they signed them. Why don't they announce
- 34:55Speaker 2: these things? Why do they Why do they keep these secret?
- 34:57Speaker 2: That's what I want to know.
- 34:58Speaker 3: The oriol season, there was there wasn't a time they're like, hey,
- 35:03Speaker 3: we're gonna announce this the end of April, when we're
- 35:05Speaker 3: leading the American League East.
- 35:07Speaker 2: Okay, okay, when we get.
- 35:09Speaker 3: Hot in May, that's what we're gonna announce it. It's
- 35:11Speaker 3: gonna have a hot stretch, couple walk offs, all right.
- 35:14Speaker 3: Here we are in September, we had four of our
- 35:17Speaker 3: last five wins or walk offs. We gotta announce it. Now,
- 35:20Speaker 3: we've got to tell somebody.
- 35:21Speaker 1: They didn't announce it. I mean, Ken and Britt found
- 35:23Speaker 1: out about it, probably because they're searching for a GM
- 35:28Speaker 1: and then the GM's like, oh, is the president going
- 35:30Speaker 1: to be there long term? And they're like yeah, I mean,
- 35:32Speaker 1: or is Michael Ayas there and they're like, yeah, yeah,
- 35:34Speaker 1: we're hiring someone below him. We locked him up to
- 35:37Speaker 1: a promotion before the season started. So this happened before
- 35:41Speaker 1: the season started, Crafts. I mean, even if it happened
- 35:44Speaker 1: the day before the season started, announce it. I don't
- 35:46Speaker 1: think it did. I think it happened in the winter.
- 35:48Speaker 2: Don't do this with players. Players don't. Players don't get
- 35:51Speaker 2: contracts and not talk about it. I signed a contract
- 35:54Speaker 2: extension in the middle of the season. One time. They
- 35:56Speaker 2: were doing it that day. They couldn't wait to announce it.
- 35:59Speaker 2: Why don't we do the same.
- 36:01Speaker 3: Well, that's because that's because players are the only ones
- 36:04Speaker 3: that make any money in baseball. Owners don't make any money.
- 36:07Speaker 3: Front office doesn't make any money. That's how they want
- 36:10Speaker 3: to keep keep painting that picture so that the public
- 36:12Speaker 3: only thinks the players are the only millionaires in baseball.
- 36:18Speaker 1: Right. Well, I can guarantee you it's at least five
- 36:21Speaker 1: million bucks a year for him, and I know the
- 36:23Speaker 1: top end. It's what ten, twelve, fifteen something like that
- 36:28Speaker 1: for the top end guys. Yeah, in the front offices.
- 36:31Speaker 1: So they're doing okay, and their jobs usually last much longer.
- 36:34Speaker 1: Besides a few superstars, their jobs usually last, you know,
- 36:37Speaker 1: quite a bit these days. I mean, Michael Isias is
- 36:39Speaker 1: a perfect example. He entered in the middle of a
- 36:43Speaker 1: super tank. Aj. I mean the first two full seasons
- 36:47Speaker 1: were one hundred plus lost seasons for him taking over.
- 36:49Speaker 1: And that's fine. But this team tank for half a decade, Yeah,
- 36:55Speaker 1: I mean not on.
- 36:56Speaker 2: Purpose in a different way.
- 36:57Speaker 1: Yeah, they years.
- 36:59Speaker 2: They didn't win a playoff game. They didn't win they
- 37:03Speaker 2: didn't win a ah one ah, they didn't win ah
- 37:09Speaker 2: playoff game. No one they had the best record, didn't
- 37:12Speaker 2: win a playoff game. So didn't they have this year?
- 37:16Speaker 2: Like wow, okay, oh they made year.
- 37:20Speaker 3: They made a lot of moves in the trade deadline
- 37:22Speaker 3: last year to really fortify that team.
- 37:24Speaker 1: Right, they got Trevor Rodgers their ace. I'm flipping on
- 37:28Speaker 1: that one, but I get what you're saying. It did
- 37:31Speaker 1: not work out for them last year with the moves
- 37:33Speaker 1: that they made.
- 37:34Speaker 2: Who's responsible for that?
- 37:35Speaker 3: Because not like the Orioles were just hot all the
- 37:37Speaker 3: way into the trade deadline and they're like.
- 37:39Speaker 2: Hey, we don't need anybody, we are good to go. No,
- 37:43Speaker 2: they were already kind of swooning the leather, kind of like, ah, like.
- 37:46Speaker 3: Somebody help us here, get us a big piece. We
- 37:50Speaker 3: got Trevor Rodgers, who we ended up sending down the
- 37:53Speaker 3: Triple A. Look, let's like a good trade now Stowers Stours.
- 37:58Speaker 2: Would you rather have Stowers or rod because right now
- 38:01Speaker 2: they're out there they didn't hit neither, but but their
- 38:03Speaker 2: outfield ain't hit neither. Right, if they had Stours all year,
- 38:07Speaker 2: would he have helped because he's I mean, I know
- 38:08Speaker 2: he's hurt, but I mean he's been hurt, but like
- 38:10Speaker 2: he was banging before he got hurt.
- 38:12Speaker 1: They need starting pitching though, that's the problem. Here's my thing, guys.
- 38:16Speaker 2: It wasn't the answer at the time.
- 38:18Speaker 1: I have the answer, no doubt.
- 38:20Speaker 2: Out and made the trade. Guess who was available this offseason?
- 38:23Speaker 2: Garrett Crochet. Guess who they didn't go get Garrett Crochet
- 38:26Speaker 2: because they wanted controllable starters. What the Red Sox do?
- 38:29Speaker 2: They went out and got Garrett Crochet, and thank you,
- 38:31Speaker 2: Red Sox is Kyle Teel looks like he's gonna be
- 38:33Speaker 2: really good my drafts. Looks like he's gonna really help
- 38:35Speaker 2: this team for the White Sox coming right. But the
- 38:37Speaker 2: Red Sox gave up players for a guy, and then
- 38:39Speaker 2: what do they do? They signed him. This is what
- 38:41Speaker 2: the the Orioles haven't done. They went out and got
- 38:44Speaker 2: Corbyn Burns. Now, Corban Burns end up blowing his elbow
- 38:46Speaker 2: out this year and that looks great. But they didn't
- 38:48Speaker 2: know that at the time. But they they had Corbyn
- 38:51Speaker 2: Burns and they just let them walk, right. They were
- 38:53Speaker 2: looking for controllable guys. Why do they gotta be controllable?
- 38:56Speaker 2: Why do they have to be Go get the guy
- 38:58Speaker 2: that you think will help you win play off games
- 39:00Speaker 2: and get you the playoffs and make a deep run
- 39:02Speaker 2: and then you know what, if you like them, re
- 39:04Speaker 2: sign them. Don't just let them walk out the door
- 39:05Speaker 2: for a draft pick.
- 39:06Speaker 1: They did that the year before with Corbyn Burns and
- 39:09Speaker 1: it definitely helped them out. Yeah, exactly. They did that
- 39:12Speaker 1: with Corbin and I mean, you didn get run support
- 39:15Speaker 1: in the playoffs. But here's my thing, guys, if I'm
- 39:17Speaker 1: the owner of the Orioles, next year is the year
- 39:21Speaker 1: we either make the playoffs or we don't. That's what
- 39:24Speaker 1: I would be saying if I'm the Orioles owner, Right,
- 39:27Speaker 1: we make the playoffs, even if it's a wild card spot,
- 39:30Speaker 1: it's on an easy division. Okay, miss the playoffs. Someone
- 39:33Speaker 1: else should be running the front office. But the vibes
- 39:36Speaker 1: I'm getting here or that somebody just got promoted, and
- 39:39Speaker 1: probably as many years left on a deal. So this
- 39:42Speaker 1: is the part that I think is interesting for Orioles fans.
- 39:45Speaker 1: This season is this season already, it's over, It's been
- 39:47Speaker 1: over for a long period of time. But next year
- 39:50Speaker 1: is the make it or break it year for many
- 39:52Speaker 1: people judging this team. But I don't think it's actually
- 39:54Speaker 1: the make it or break it year for Michael Lias anymore.
- 39:57Speaker 2: Kratz.
- 39:58Speaker 3: No, but this ownership, what kind of information is this
- 40:01Speaker 3: ownership going on? They the ink was barely dry on
- 40:05Speaker 3: the contract for buying the team, and then they signed
- 40:08Speaker 3: him to a new extension, like, hey, you look like
- 40:12Speaker 3: the best guy to run this organization. Look at all
- 40:15Speaker 3: you've done. They may have signed themselves into something that
- 40:18Speaker 3: they didn't really know what they were getting into.
- 40:23Speaker 1: That's true, that's true. Okay, Well we're reels fans.
- 40:26Speaker 2: If you're catching a GM do you wonder how to
- 40:29Speaker 2: be a great GM slash president of baseball ops. Get
- 40:32Speaker 2: real tight with your owner and convince them it's always
- 40:34Speaker 2: going to be another five year plan. Oh this, the
- 40:37Speaker 2: these didn't work out. Give me five more years and
- 40:39Speaker 2: I'll figure it out. Give me five more years. That's
- 40:41Speaker 2: how that's what the good ones do. That's how you
- 40:43Speaker 2: stay in a place for a long time, even though
- 40:45Speaker 2: you might not have won for a while. Oh man,
- 40:48Speaker 2: not my players are Oh someone so made that trade.
- 40:50Speaker 2: It wasn't me. Da da da da da. And then
- 40:52Speaker 2: you get five more years, five more years. I want
- 40:54Speaker 2: to be a GM because that way I can always
- 40:55Speaker 2: get five more years, five more years at seven million.
- 40:58Speaker 2: I'll take that sign me up. Please give me three and.
- 41:01Speaker 3: I'll win you a championship? What what GM is? That's
- 41:05Speaker 3: that's all I want?
- 41:06Speaker 2: A GM.
- 41:06Speaker 3: I'll win you a championship. You won three in three years,
- 41:09Speaker 3: I'll win you a championship. You know you might you
- 41:12Speaker 3: might not do it, but you know what it's gonna be.
- 41:14Speaker 3: Like my playing days, I'm either I'm either gonna hit
- 41:17Speaker 3: it and it's gonna go hard or I'm not. That's
- 41:21Speaker 3: that's what you're getting. So what what ownership is signing
- 41:23Speaker 3: up for?
- 41:24Speaker 2: That?
- 41:26Speaker 1: Every ownership would sign up for that? Would you like
- 41:28Speaker 1: to be the GM of the Nats? Maybe the Rockies?
- 41:31Speaker 2: Three years? I'll give you three years with the Pirates.
- 41:33Speaker 2: Win me a championship. Oh my gosh, h with that pitching.
- 41:40Speaker 2: But you got you get the payroll they have. Okay,
- 41:44Speaker 2: that's it. You're gonna win it. You're gonna win that.
- 41:45Speaker 2: You're gonna win the National League in the next three
- 41:47Speaker 2: years with the Pirates team the way they're constructed and
- 41:49Speaker 2: they're paying, there won't be there won't be a single
- 41:52Speaker 2: prospect left in the organization. I'm pushing in because you can't.
- 41:56Speaker 2: You can't, because you can't trade everybody because you don't
- 41:58Speaker 2: have the payroll. Yeah, but you can.
- 42:01Speaker 3: You can convince your owner to pay the guys that
- 42:03Speaker 3: for for the one year contracts, the one the one
- 42:06Speaker 3: little hey we need we have the pitching. We have
- 42:10Speaker 3: the pitching. Three years, you could do it. You don't
- 42:13Speaker 3: think you can turn it around in three years.
- 42:14Speaker 2: Not with the payroll, not unless the payroll goes way up.
- 42:17Speaker 2: I said, with the payroll they have now, you could
- 42:18Speaker 2: not win a championship in three years. The Rockies ain't
- 42:21Speaker 2: winning a championship with the payroll they have. The Marlins
- 42:24Speaker 2: ain't winning a championship in three years with the payroll
- 42:26Speaker 2: they have.
- 42:28Speaker 1: You can trade your prospects for pre ar players to
- 42:31Speaker 1: try and get by that way, but.
- 42:32Speaker 2: Then that you're just giving up prospects for more prospects.
- 42:35Speaker 2: You need proven guys. It's the points. Yeah, does have
- 42:41Speaker 2: one year. If you're gonna give up three prospects for
- 42:43Speaker 2: a guy with pre arm for one year, whatever it takes,
- 42:47Speaker 2: whatever I take. The Marlin needs some veteran guys.
- 42:51Speaker 3: I take the Marlins or the Pirates over the Rockies
- 42:53Speaker 3: because the Rockies, the Rockies, they spend more money than
- 42:57Speaker 3: both of them. But everybody's they've they've a culture of like, hey,
- 43:01Speaker 3: you know, we can't win, We can't recover all this
- 43:04Speaker 3: stuff when there are people that have had success there.
- 43:07Speaker 3: I just think there's the structure of the Marlins and
- 43:09Speaker 3: the Pirates right now. You could build a team around
- 43:12Speaker 3: those pitching staffs. Maybe I'm wrong, Maybe you know I'd be.
- 43:16Speaker 2: I'd be now with a thirty five million dollars payroll
- 43:20Speaker 2: like the Marlins. If you can't win, I'm sorry, you're
- 43:22Speaker 2: not winning the National League. Get you can have Sandy,
- 43:24Speaker 2: you can have Perez, you can have whoever you want,
- 43:26Speaker 2: Jansen Junk, you can check your junk all you want.
- 43:29Speaker 2: You can have all these guys. But in three years
- 43:31Speaker 2: from now, all those guys are gonna be up and
- 43:32Speaker 2: you won't be able to afford to a sign. So
- 43:34Speaker 2: you're gonna science trade Sandy for three pre ar guys. Great,
- 43:38Speaker 2: and two years are up for arm and you won't
- 43:39Speaker 2: be able to afford them. So you got a trade down.
- 43:41Speaker 2: It's a constant cycle. That's why you need more than
- 43:43Speaker 2: three years. And you also need owners of vack you
- 43:46Speaker 2: and it'll be great. I'll be out in three years,
- 43:48Speaker 2: will you They have done it? Or we won't. I won't.
- 43:50Speaker 2: I won't be lying. I won't be to me.
- 43:52Speaker 3: I think guys who are saying give me five years,
- 43:55Speaker 3: they're lying to themselves, and they're lying to their ownership,
- 43:59Speaker 3: and they're lying to their fan base.
- 44:01Speaker 2: Go hard or go home. That's my slogan, which reminded me.
- 44:05Speaker 1: I worked with someone once when I was at the
- 44:07Speaker 1: league at MLB Network and their whole thing, I think
- 44:12Speaker 1: it was an off season like maybe four or five
- 44:13Speaker 1: years ago, was like I would rather be the GM
- 44:17Speaker 1: of the Pirates than the Red Sox, and like, obviously
- 44:21Speaker 1: half of it was trolling, but the other half was
- 44:23Speaker 1: just like the way he backed it up was so stupid. Yeah,
- 44:28Speaker 1: it was one of those moments where I'm.
- 44:29Speaker 2: Like, I don't know who that is, but I wouldn't.
- 44:34Speaker 1: I wouldn't Brian Kenny said it, I don't care. I
- 44:36Speaker 1: mean I'd said it to him when he said it,
- 44:38Speaker 1: like I saw him at the office. I was like,
- 44:41Speaker 1: that's just a brain dead take that. I was like,
- 44:43Speaker 1: that makes us sound stupider as a network.
- 44:46Speaker 2: Okay, I thought it was an ex GM.
- 44:48Speaker 3: I would say, if that's what a GM would say,
- 44:51Speaker 3: I wouldn't want to be a part of that. Your job,
- 44:54Speaker 3: yes is to like invest in people. Yes, it's to
- 44:57Speaker 3: make incremental changes going. But you have to see the
- 45:01Speaker 3: vision of going to win a World Series and what
- 45:04Speaker 3: that takes. Sometimes it takes swings and misses. But a
- 45:07Speaker 3: lot of times, if you know what you're doing and
- 45:09Speaker 3: you have the people in the right position, you're gonna
- 45:12Speaker 3: freaking kill it and you're going to You're gonna make
- 45:15Speaker 3: way bigger strides for an organization than you are saying
- 45:19Speaker 3: slow and steady wins the race.
- 45:25Speaker 1: Yeah, it was when I think it was when Charrington
- 45:27Speaker 1: signed up with the Pirates and he's like, oh, I'd
- 45:30Speaker 1: rather run this team than the Red World Series.
- 45:33Speaker 2: Charrington won a World Series with the Red Sox. Why
- 45:35Speaker 2: because he had players? What do you do? The year
- 45:37Speaker 2: twenty thirteen, Johnny Gomes, Mike Napoli, Ryan Dempster, Shane Victor Reno.
- 45:41Speaker 2: I went out and signed all those guys, right because
- 45:44Speaker 2: he had money. Pirates did they signed this year? No offense?
- 45:46Speaker 2: Tommy Fam Who else they signed? And one guy they
- 45:49Speaker 2: signed as a free agent other than Tommy Fam? I
- 45:50Speaker 2: can't think of Okay, okay, tom no offense? Right? The
- 45:58Speaker 2: Red Sox the year they won look at who they signed.
- 46:00Speaker 2: You're that offseason name. I just named a bunch of them.
- 46:03Speaker 2: That's why they were good, right, And they had Bogarts
- 46:06Speaker 2: coming up, and they had all these other guys that
- 46:09Speaker 2: were already there that were you know, Lackey and Lester
- 46:11Speaker 2: and those guys that were already there. But they had
- 46:13Speaker 2: to go get those guys to come in and finish
- 46:15Speaker 2: the team off. Plus I had David Ortiz making twenty
- 46:18Speaker 2: five million. Pirates don't have that guy. Pirates ain't gonna
- 46:21Speaker 2: get that guy, and you ain't gonna convince Bob Nutting
- 46:23Speaker 2: to spend that money. So yo, hell no, that's one
- 46:26Speaker 2: of the worst takes I've ever heard. Yeah, would it
- 46:28Speaker 2: be cool to be pirates and try to build, Yeah,
- 46:30Speaker 2: it'd be cool. But the end of the day, you
- 46:31Speaker 2: ain't winning. You ain't winning unless you spend money. I'm sorry.
- 46:35Speaker 3: Don't be employed somewhere and do a mediocre job. Be
- 46:38Speaker 3: employed somewhere and absolutely kill it. That should be your goal,
- 46:42Speaker 3: GM or a Burger flipper, that should be your goal.
- 46:45Speaker 2: But they're trying to do this craps. You don't understand.
- 46:47Speaker 2: If you don't have the tools, you can't do it.
- 46:49Speaker 2: If you're a burger flipper. You ain't got no spatula.
- 46:50Speaker 2: You can't put the burger.
- 46:52Speaker 1: There's a minor league take. I think he wanted less
- 46:55Speaker 1: pressure in fit person, not Ben Brian. All right, let's
- 47:12Speaker 1: slap We got Todd Father on with us tomorrow, Kratz.
- 47:15Speaker 1: I think one more shout out. We saw your hat
- 47:18Speaker 1: for a very rare occurrence at the top of the show,
- 47:20Speaker 1: but you want to show it one more time at
- 47:21Speaker 1: the bottom.
- 47:22Speaker 3: Here had I worn on September eleventh, in the last
- 47:25Speaker 3: season that I played, got the opportunity to wear it,
- 47:28Speaker 3: and don't look into the nypd f D. Whatever it is,
- 47:32Speaker 3: it's a hat that gave me, so I'll wear it
- 47:34Speaker 3: in remembrance, and it's really it's a special hat for me,
- 47:39Speaker 3: and I feel honored to be able to wear it.
- 47:42Speaker 1: Trying to see if I can pull off a question
- 47:44Speaker 1: or two from the chat with the extra couple minutes
- 47:49Speaker 1: that we have. I should have thought of this before here.
- 47:55Speaker 1: I'll bring up Boo in the chat. I don't think
- 48:00Speaker 1: Orioles pitching moves last season were that egregious. Brattis, Rogers, Rodriguez,
- 48:05Speaker 1: Wells and Kramer solid enough rotation those other guys were
- 48:08Speaker 1: just stop gap measures. Agree or disagree.
- 48:15Speaker 3: Was Bradish hurt to start the year or that was
- 48:19Speaker 3: the question over the last few years.
- 48:22Speaker 1: I think he's talking about heading into this year.
- 48:25Speaker 3: Wells and Bradish were going to be out the whole year,
- 48:29Speaker 3: So you were running on Grayson one hundred percent being healthy,
- 48:34Speaker 3: which he hasn't been yet. To me, that's not how
- 48:37Speaker 3: a team that goes all in to win, Like you
- 48:40Speaker 3: collect six starters to start the season. You make sure
- 48:44Speaker 3: you have six starters. You did it last year you
- 48:46Speaker 3: went out and or the year before you went out
- 48:49Speaker 3: and got Burns to solidify a rotation that had Bradish, Wells,
- 48:54Speaker 3: Grayson Rodrigez. So if you felt like your rotation at
- 48:58Speaker 3: the beginning this year was better than the previous year,
- 49:02Speaker 3: I feel like I have an argument there.
- 49:04Speaker 2: But you know, maybe I don't understand the question.
- 49:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I think that's what he means.
- 49:13Speaker 3: I mean, Charlie Morton, Charlie Martin, you sign to be
- 49:17Speaker 3: a stop gap. You signed Chicano to be a stop gap.
- 49:21Speaker 3: Maybe you get something out of him. You can't say, man,
- 49:25Speaker 3: you know, you know we're missing Tyler Wells and Bradish
- 49:29Speaker 3: for the year. So we're gonna get a cy young
- 49:31Speaker 3: performance from Grayson Rodriguez. Rogers is gonna return to be
- 49:36Speaker 3: exactly what we thought he was gonna be. No, like that,
- 49:39Speaker 3: like that didn't happen. Yes, is he's doing. He's nails
- 49:43Speaker 3: right now and he looks like a piece moving forward.
- 49:45Speaker 3: All four of those guys in a rotation next year
- 49:47Speaker 3: is awesome. You need to go and get somebody because
- 49:51Speaker 3: you have the position player grouping that can win a
- 49:55Speaker 3: World Series and they have to step up to But
- 49:58Speaker 3: to me, the front office needs to step the team. Yeah.
- 50:01Speaker 1: Yeah, there were some down years. I mean even Gunner
- 50:03Speaker 1: Anderson this year, fine, last year, MVP, Like you know,
- 50:07Speaker 1: Jackson Holliday has definitely taken another step, but he's not
- 50:11Speaker 1: a star yet. Colton Kowser dealing with some injuries this year.
- 50:16Speaker 1: Like there's names here, obviously athlete. We covered his step
- 50:19Speaker 1: back yep. But yeah, I mean it was something at
- 50:22Speaker 1: least we all agreed on on the show. Not enough
- 50:24Speaker 1: TLC with the rotation. We didn't like the moves that
- 50:27Speaker 1: they did make, they did spend here we are they
- 50:29Speaker 1: have a chance to rewrite it. You're gonna have the
- 50:31Speaker 1: same front office at least for this year, so you'll
- 50:34Speaker 1: see if they can fix things. We will see you tomorrow.
- 50:37Speaker 1: If you're with us right now and you want to
- 50:38Speaker 1: get a little Dodgers take from Alana and Clint, then
- 50:41Speaker 1: go for it. We'll flip you over to Dodgers' territory.
- 50:46Speaker 2: And the millions on Tyler O'Neill. That was weird.
