- 2:06since the end of the basketball season and we have him again.
- 2:09We're now talking to Golden State Warriors play by play
- 2:13broadcaster, our friend Tim Roy. Tim, what's up, buddy?
- 2:17Not much just enjoying the offseason, you know and and got
- 2:21to watch a great finals that was really good basketball, high
- 2:25level stuff and now just getting ready for the draft.
- 2:28The Warriors don't have a first round pick.
- 2:31They have a second round pick, but you never know on draft
- 2:33night, you know, it could be, it could be a deal going on during
- 2:36the draft. And and so you I always be ready
- 2:39for that. But just at this point, you
- 2:41know, now after the draft, it's some summer league and free
- 2:44agency. And then you get some time in
- 2:46August to kind of really rest. And then back at the end of
- 2:49September, you just get going again.
- 2:51It's, you know, the NBA has been really good about keep staying,
- 2:55keeping itself in the news all year long.
- 2:57They really do a good job of that.
- 2:58It's not the NBA, it's the LJ LeBron James Association.
- 3:02I'm going to help you out on this all show for everybody out
- 3:05there that doesn't understand, it's the LJA LeBron James
- 3:10Association. Thank you, Adam Silver.
- 3:12But nevertheless, a lot to get into with the Golden State
- 3:15Warriors And you're right, it's very Nick like as they don't
- 3:18have a first round draft pick. We all know the Knicks as Leon
- 3:21Rose hasn't had a first round draft pick since 1970.
- 3:23I'm just kidding, but the New York Knicks don't really draft
- 3:26in a first round either with Leon Rose.
- 3:29Nevertheless, they've gotten good second round draft picks
- 3:31over the years. But no, I, I look at Golden
- 3:34State right now. Jimmy Buckets looked old.
- 3:37I, I, I, you gave him an extension before the seasons
- 3:40end. You have Steph Curry coming
- 3:41back. What is he 3637 years old?
- 3:44He's getting up there. And there you have Draymond
- 3:46Green that's been more worried about his podcast than his game
- 3:49of basketball. What out there?
- 3:51What is out there? And Steve Kerr, he could be
- 3:53looking, you have one foot out right now.
- 3:55He could be looking at a, a broadcasting job in the very
- 3:58near future. What is there to look forward to
- 4:01Golden State Warriors basketball moving forward.
- 4:03You know more than anybody. Well, they played really, really
- 4:07well after Jimmy got on board. And they're, you know, at the
- 4:11end when Steph got hurt, it kind of fell apart.
- 4:13Jimmy got hurt, then Steph got hurt.
- 4:15And so it kind of, you know, evaporated at that point.
- 4:18But before that, in the last, you know, month and a half, two
- 4:21months and a half of the season, they were really good.
- 4:24And so I think they're trying to fill in some holes.
- 4:26I think they'd like to get some more shooting, a little more
- 4:29length on the perimeter. They're limited and how they can
- 4:32do it, so they're going to have to be creative.
- 4:35But I think with the Jimmy Butler deal, Mike Dunleavy
- 4:38showed he can be a very creative GM.
- 4:41He did a really nice job before the season started.
- 4:45He acquired all these, you know, contracts, Kyle Anderson, D
- 4:48Anthony Melton, all these guys. And they were all movable
- 4:51pieces. So by moving Melton after he got
- 4:54hurt, then you get shorter, you can move shorter, and he gotten
- 4:57something else in the Butler trade.
- 4:59So I think they've shown that they can be very creative.
- 5:02They have some holes to fill and they have some young players
- 5:05that have to take a step forward next year.
- 5:08So Steph Curry, obviously, I like I was talking about the
- 5:10longevity aspect of it. He's mostly had minor injuries
- 5:12in his true, not as much as like the big ones, like we've seen
- 5:14all these Achilles injuries now, but like going forward with him
- 5:17especially being the focal point of this offense.
- 5:19Like how do you think the Warriors have to manage it and
- 5:21how do you think he has to fit with these younger players?
- 5:23Yeah, I think, you know, Steph, despite his age, still has what
- 5:27we call gravity. You know, when he cuts to the
- 5:29other side, you know, about two bodies go with him.
- 5:32OK. What?
- 5:33What they need is to find guys on the other side of the floor
- 5:36who can consistently knock down some shots.
- 5:38That's how you use his gravity against the other team.
- 5:41I think Steph is one of these guys that he's, once he found
- 5:45out that if he got his body right, the ankle injuries would
- 5:49go away and, and all the, you know, the problems that he had
- 5:53right the start of his career went away.
- 5:55He has been dedicated to keeping himself in great shape.
- 5:58And all the players, I think most of them around the league
- 6:00are doing that. And that's why we're seeing guys
- 6:03play into the late 30s. When I was a kid, if you were 37
- 6:07in the NBA, you had better been 7 feet tall because if you were,
- 6:10you were not, you were not playing at that point.
- 6:13But now the conditioning, the nutrition, everything is so much
- 6:16better that these guys are playing longer and longer.
- 6:19So yes, the Warriors big three, they're old.
- 6:21They're not they're not young players anymore.
- 6:23But there still can be affected players if you can keep their
- 6:26minutes down. And so I think that's the kind
- 6:28of Micks they're going to look at.
- 6:30Brandon Pojemski has to, I think has to take a step forward next
- 6:33year for the Warriors. Moses Moody has to be a little
- 6:35bit better. They they, there is a situation
- 6:37now with Jonathan Kaminga, whether or not he's going to
- 6:40stay and what kind of offer he gets as a restricted free agent.
- 6:43And so, so I think there's there's a lot of pieces they
- 6:48have, they just got to find a couple more to make it all work.
- 6:52Yeah, what that, that was my question too.
- 6:54Nice, nice segue. Make me look good.
- 6:57You see it every day and you're around them and cover it.
- 7:00Like what? What do you think those couple
- 7:02pieces are and and how do you think the best way to go about
- 7:06getting the ones? I think a three and D wing would
- 7:09be good. You know, a guy that can defend
- 7:11a little bit and knock down a three.
- 7:12You know, the there's a lot of guys that say they're three and
- 7:15D wings. But I think if they can find a
- 7:17guy like that, they need to get a little bit bigger on the wing
- 7:20wing side and probably, you know, find a center who can
- 7:23stretch the floor a little bit. They have this rookie out, a kid
- 7:26out of BC from from Holland, the Quinton Post, who showed some
- 7:31pretty good stuff during the regular season.
- 7:33I don't know if he's ready to be a full time starter just yet.
- 7:35Probably has to get a little bit bigger, a little bit stronger,
- 7:37learn how to use his leverage better.
- 7:39But that those are the kind of needs I see.
- 7:41A three and D wing, a big that can stretch the floor a little
- 7:44bit like Miles Turner does for Indiana, what check does for
- 7:49Oklahoma City. A guy that can knock down one of
- 7:52those shots, it can bring a big away from the basket.
- 7:55So if the other guys can then get to the basket without
- 7:58worrying about having their shot smack back in their face for
- 8:01having to shoot a quicker than they want to because the big guy
- 8:04is there. We are talking to Golden State
- 8:06Warriors play by play broadcaster Tim Roy.
- 8:08Tim, this Achilles injury has been really effective over the
- 8:12last, I would say 10 years, actually 15 years.
- 8:16If you go back of the Golden State, where is Klay Thompson?
- 8:19He tore his Achilles, He wasn't the same player.
- 8:21We go back to Kobe Bryant. When Kobe Bryant tore his
- 8:24Achilles, he wasn't the same player.
- 8:26Now you're looking throughout the NBA Finals this year, he got
- 8:292 superstar players, 2 great players, and Jason Tatum, he
- 8:32went down towards Achilles. He could, he might not be the
- 8:35same player. And then Tyrese Halliburton,
- 8:37he's young, but he might not be the same player.
- 8:40What do you think the LJA needs to do to help or secure these
- 8:45players so they don't have these bad injuries?
- 8:49Well, first of all, basketball is a sport that's, you know, the
- 8:52human body is not designed to have that much stress on your
- 8:55ankles, your knees and and, and to take the pounding that they
- 8:58do. I'm not so sure.
- 9:00I'm not really a doctor kind of guy, but so I don't know if
- 9:04there's a link between them all, but I'll give you an example.
- 9:07Kevin Durant, Elton Brand, both guys for their Achilles, what
- 9:11they do, they change their game a little bit.
- 9:12You know, Elton Brand hung out the free throw line.
- 9:14He played for over 10 years in the league making foul line
- 9:17jumpers. Kevin Durant's a mid range guy.
- 9:20I think that's what maybe a guy like Tatum will have to look at.
- 9:23Maybe Halliburton doesn't go the basket as much as he did before.
- 9:27You know, and you know, the the medical side is so much better
- 9:30than it used to be. I think these guys can't come
- 9:31back and be effective players, but but again, you may have to
- 9:35look at your game and kind of adjust it a little bit to get
- 9:39the kind of longevity that you want and to be an effective
- 9:41player. But I think with with Brand and
- 9:44with KD, I think they both showed that that you can make
- 9:47that adjustment and still be a pretty good player in the
- 9:50league. So the obviously the debate has
- 9:52been for years with load management and now we've seen a
- 9:55lot of cuz of these major injuries.
- 9:56I think we were saying like the Achilles injuries doubled I
- 9:59think from last year for how many there were total.
- 10:01And there was also this this argument after OK FTC won the
- 10:04championship, that should they shorten the NBA season to
- 10:07prevent these injuries. What are your thoughts of that?
- 10:10Well, I, I think here's the, the, I think, I think in, in
- 10:14theory, it's a really good idea. In reality, it's, it's never
- 10:19going to happen because the owners need, need those dates,
- 10:24you know, to make money. And the players, if you have
- 10:28less games, they're going to get paid less.
- 10:30So I don't think anybody's going to kick back any money on either
- 10:33side. So I don't think it's ever going
- 10:36to happen. I think there's a way to make
- 10:39the schedule a little bit easier and I think they've tried to do
- 10:42that. We see these things now where
- 10:44teams will go to a city and instead of in your own
- 10:48conference, instead of playing one game and moving on to the
- 10:51next city, they stay over and play 2 games.
- 10:54Guys get better rest that way. It's kind of like a baseball
- 10:56series. You go in, you can actually
- 10:58unpack. You know, in the NBA you don't
- 11:00unpack, just lay your bag down. It's just like, okay, but you
- 11:03know, you can unpack if you're going to be there like a playoff
- 11:05series or whatever. And so I think it's guys aren't
- 11:09under the stress and the, you know, lack of sleep that they
- 11:12get in the regular season. I think, I think maybe adding a
- 11:15week to so the duration of the season might help just to spread
- 11:19the games out a little bit more. And I, I think there are ways to
- 11:23do it, but I really don't think in reality you'll ever see a
- 11:26shortened season. They don't want to lose that TV
- 11:29money and that's how they're able to pay these guys.
- 11:32In theory. I'm surprised the NFL has done
- 11:35it to the extra game. But then you've seen kind of
- 11:39what this series did and it was the most watched Game 7 or last
- 11:44game of the series in six years. Do you do you see it trending
- 11:49up? Because as we've seen the
- 11:50numbers, we've seen the viewability become more so than
- 11:56it has been. And do you think that's due to
- 11:58because these younger athletes and the younger guys and the
- 12:02style of what they do brings a cool factor to the younger
- 12:06generation that that wants to play this game instead of, you
- 12:09know, the roughnecks and dudes get in clothesline like by lamb
- 12:12beer and it just a different game.
- 12:14Do you think that's helped viewership?
- 12:16Because I know sports are trying to get younger to get that
- 12:19younger crowd. You're always going to have
- 12:20those older guys, but do you see that from your guys viewership
- 12:25in in more ways than one? Yeah, and I think also too, the
- 12:28NBA has been really good at identifying trends in in the
- 12:31culture. So every NBA team now has a
- 12:35group of five or six young people that do nothing but
- 12:38social media. They go to a game, every guy
- 12:41gets off that bus that pictures going up somewhere, TikTok,
- 12:44Instagram. So they're now the players are
- 12:47making it so they're fashion statements coming off the bus,
- 12:50you know, I mean, and, and you. Call Tim, you call some of those
- 12:54fashion statements. Well, I'm, I'm saying, I'm not
- 12:57saying sure what kind of statement it is, but it is a
- 13:00statement. You know, it's like, if that's
- 13:03the look they were going for, they nailed it.
- 13:05But the no, but they kind of identify where the trends are
- 13:09and, and to appeal to younger people.
- 13:10So I think they do a good job of that And, and in turn, they
- 13:14create these persona around these players that's attractive
- 13:18to young people. Basketball has the advantage to
- 13:21where it's a, you know, it's a, it's about a 2 hour game, you
- 13:25know, and I think with for a lot of the younger kids, that's a
- 13:28big deal. And I think that's why baseball
- 13:30put in the clocks because they want to speed the game up and
- 13:33they want to get kids to talk a little bit about baseball again.
- 13:36You know, when my son was a teenager, none of his friends
- 13:39would come over and talk about the Giants or the A's or what
- 13:42was going on in baseball. And I found that really weird
- 13:44because when I was a kid, that's what we talked about in the
- 13:46summertime, you know, we look for the averages and eras.
- 13:49And so, and I asked Zach about that and says, dad, kids aren't
- 13:53watching because it's too long. And that was back when you like
- 13:55if you were watching the Red Sox Yankee game, it's a four hour
- 13:58affair. And you know, there's 25
- 14:01pitching changes and meetings. And so I think baseball has done
- 14:04a good job of that and the NBA has that built in.
- 14:07So they they identify trends. They got a built in thing, they
- 14:10identify with young players. And I I think you're right.
- 14:13And the other part about this, you know, like we're on this
- 14:15show right now. It's streaming and I think the,
- 14:18the ability for kids to watch games on their phones or on
- 14:22their tablets, I think that's huge because a lot of kids, you
- 14:26know, especially teenagers, they may not want to go and sit down
- 14:29next to dad and watch the game. You know, they want to be out
- 14:32with their friends, but they can catch up with the game on their
- 14:34on their phone. And I think that's why I think
- 14:36you're seeing a lot of the listenership coming, coming up,
- 14:39because there's more options for young people to watch, but they
- 14:42don't have to sit down in their home and and watch it that way.
- 14:45Tim, you've been watching the game a long, long time.
- 14:48You've been a part of the LJA for a long, long time.
- 14:52You look at where the LJA has gone over the years, from the
- 14:5780s to the Celtics and the the Magic Lakers to the 90s, where
- 15:03the tail end of the Pistons dynasty went from obviously
- 15:07Elijah Wan to Michael Jordan's dominance.
- 15:09And then you look at the Lakers and you know the the back end of
- 15:12it. And then you look at Steph Curry
- 15:15and the Golden State Warriors and a lot of people, a lot of
- 15:17young people, all the dominance of the Golden State Warriors
- 15:20over the years and the championships.
- 15:22And Steph's won four. If he wins 5, you can compare
- 15:25him to the Jordans and and all the greats.
- 15:29A lot of people put Steph Curry, you know, out there as a top ten
- 15:33player. I do not look at him as a top
- 15:35ten player. There's a lot of reasons why not
- 15:37because he's not a great shooter.
- 15:38I think he's the greatest shooter to ever play in the NBA.
- 15:41He's brought a different value to the NBA and the youngsters
- 15:45that believe, hey, I could be 6 three and Chuck up threes and be
- 15:48like Steph Curry. You look at the league right
- 15:50now, you look at, you know, you're a Samaritan.
- 15:53You understand the way the NBA has gone over the years.
- 15:56Do you put Steph Curry in the top 10?
- 15:57Because I don't. I put him in the top 25.
- 16:01Talking now or you talking all? Time all time, all time, all
- 16:04time, all time. Do you put Steph Curry in the
- 16:06top 10? Yeah, I think he's in the
- 16:08discussion. I'll tell you why.
- 16:10There are very few players come in and change the way the game
- 16:13is played. Will Chamberlain change the way
- 16:16the game was played around the basket.
- 16:17Bill Russell was part of that as well.
- 16:19And Bill Russell is the probably the best winner we've ever seen
- 16:23in American sport. He just won everything.
- 16:26And so, you know, Magic and Bird changed the NBA, Steph Curry
- 16:32changed the way the NBA looked at the three-point shot and in
- 16:34turn changed the way the game is played.
- 16:36Now you have everybody spread out.
- 16:38You have then there's a lot more attention to not just the
- 16:42shooting part of it, but the ball handling part of it as
- 16:44well. Steph generates a lot of offense
- 16:47via his ball handling, whether it be for himself or for
- 16:49somebody else. And so when you take that into
- 16:52effect, I think you have to look at him as a top ten player
- 16:56because he basically put his stamp on the NBA and it makes
- 17:02that now he's not the most fiscally imposing player.
- 17:06And I get that argument a lot from people.
- 17:08But I think, you know, here's the other part about stuff and
- 17:13you mentioned about how, you know, he's only 6 three and kids
- 17:16look at him and say, well, I could maybe be like that.
- 17:18And like Jabba pointed out, you know, he's changed it from not
- 17:21the the wrestling matches, you know, Anthony Mason and whoever
- 17:24on the block trying to kill each.
- 17:26Other at night New York Knicks players.
- 17:28Thank you. Thank you, Tim.
- 17:30Something to be happy about. Here's a.
- 17:32Wrestlers. A quick, quick aside, Anthony.
- 17:36Mason did it. We used to get.
- 17:37When if you lost and back when I was starting with the Warriors
- 17:40of first a decade and a half, we weren't winning very much.
- 17:43We would get a player from the other team as our postgame
- 17:46guest. Anthony Mason came by one night
- 17:48and was my postgame guest and never looked at me.
- 17:52Sat down. The chair had turned the chair.
- 17:53So he's looking out onto the court.
- 17:56I'm like 2 feet away from him and he never turned to look at
- 17:59me. He did the interview, but I we
- 18:02never made eye contact. But anyway, so I think what
- 18:05Steph is that, you know, when I go to a game on the road, the
- 18:10older brother, older sister, mom and dad, they've got all the
- 18:14home team Garbon, right? But when their their kids or
- 18:18their younger siblings walk in, they got a Curry jersey on
- 18:21because he has inspired a lot of kids to to pick up the game and
- 18:27learn how to play the game. And I'm going to be interested
- 18:30to see in the next generation, you know, just how many kids
- 18:33come in with his kind of skill set because of the fact that he
- 18:37he has put his imprint on the game the way he has.
- 18:40So we were talking at the beginning of the interview about
- 18:42the Warriors players being very outspoken.
- 18:44You also played against one that's been very outspoken
- 18:46throughout the playoffs. That's Anthony Edwards throwing
- 18:48his teammates under the bus for only taking thirteen shots, that
- 18:51he's comparing himself to Paul Pierce and all these other guys.
- 18:54That's the truth during the Olympics.
- 18:55What are your thoughts to kind of maybe this newer?
- 18:57Generations hold on. He didn't compare himself.
- 19:00He just said he was the truth. And that all started with Obama
- 19:04there and Joel Embiid. First of all, if I was Obama,
- 19:08I'm not asking Joel Embiid what he thinks about Anthony Edwards.
- 19:11Because Joel Embiid needs to shut his mouth and keep his two
- 19:14cents to himself. Because this is the same guy
- 19:17that went I should be an MVP and then the next year gets the MVP
- 19:21because the league just felt desperately sorry for the idiot.
- 19:25So where I was getting it because I've always made the, it
- 19:27was like the LeBron generation. That was the ones that are
- 19:30usually having these outspoken statements, but we're not seeing
- 19:32as he's much with the younger superstars, except probably
- 19:35besides Anthony Edwards. So what are your thoughts to his
- 19:36comments? You know, I, I think Anthony
- 19:39Edwards is kind of growing into his NBA skin.
- 19:41I don't think he's a bad guy at all.
- 19:43I think he's a really, really good guy.
- 19:45And I think he plays the game really, really hard and, and
- 19:48he's, he's a star on the rise, But I think he's kind of
- 19:52maturing into the the player he's going to be for the balance
- 19:55of his career. And so I don't have a problem
- 19:58with his comments And and you know, I think every now and
- 20:01then. You know, maybe a, a wake up
- 20:04call to your team mates isn't such a, you know, a bad idea.
- 20:07I mean, you know, sometimes you, you have to, you know, point out
- 20:10to the, the team that, hey, you know, when, when we need a
- 20:13bucket, we need to get the ball. This guy, you know, and so I
- 20:17think I think he's going to be a, a, a future, maybe an MVP
- 20:21type guy. And I, I think if, if I'm in
- 20:24Minnesota, I'm thrilled because he's going to keep them in
- 20:26contention for years to come. So yeah, talking about this
- 20:30younger generation and you covered this game for so long
- 20:34and you've seen a few guys that have been pretty good.
- 20:37Aside from your team, who is your favorite person you have
- 20:41ever covered? Wow, aside from my team.
- 20:46Yeah, because that's kind of cheating.
- 20:48Yeah, it is kind of cheating. Steph and Steve Kerr are by far.
- 20:52They're the leaders in the clubhouse.
- 20:55They make my job so much easier. But I would say, let me think, I
- 20:58would say looking around, Steve Nash was a really cool dude.
- 21:04He was really a really nice guy. He was one going back years ago,
- 21:13Kevin Johnson who played for the Phoenix Suns, really good guy.
- 21:17He's he's not just a good guy, you know, for his basketball and
- 21:21she was a good guy off the floor.
- 21:22You know, he ended up being married Sacramento.
- 21:25He started a school there for kids that needed help.
- 21:28So those are those are two guys I would think of right off the
- 21:31top there. There been so many people I've
- 21:34run into who have just been, you know, just been aces.
- 21:37It's, it's been really, it's been really a cool journey to be
- 21:40honest with you. We are talking to Golden State
- 21:42Warriors play by play broadcaster Tim, right?
- 21:43You know, it's funny you mentioned Steve Kerr, just so
- 21:46you know, when he was coaching Team USA Basketball.
- 21:49It was my take that made the Olympic Committee close down my
- 21:54Instagram. I had to renew and create a new
- 21:56Instagram. But guess what?
- 21:58Instagram. I have more followers now than I
- 22:01ever did. So eat it.
- 22:03But I said something about Steve Kerr and his coaching and they
- 22:06shut me down on Instagram. And then you mentioned Steve
- 22:08Nash, and I think he's a nice dude too.
- 22:10But what is he thinking, joining a podcast with LeBron friggin
- 22:15James that the LJA is leading again, a nice guy to the dark
- 22:22side? So I'm just, I'm just speaking
- 22:25the truth here. This is, these are the facts.
- 22:27I just speak the truth on this show.
- 22:30And I know a lot of people don't like it, but you can eat it and
- 22:32dish it and sit on it if you don't like it.
- 22:35The fact here is, and I I want to get back to what I think the
- 22:39Golden State Warriors should be doing and there is a guy right
- 22:43now for the that's playing for the New York Knicks.
- 22:45There are stories coming out, I've seen post that they're
- 22:48looking for a wing guy that can shoot and defend and do all
- 22:50those things. There is a guy on the New York
- 22:52Knicks that the Knicks traded for five first round draft picks
- 22:57that the war, it would be a perfect fit for the Warriors and
- 23:00that's Mikkel Bridges. I think that is the guy that if
- 23:04they get Mikkel Bridges, they win another championship.
- 23:07That's how good Mikkel Bridges would fit with the Warriors.
- 23:10Jimmy Buckets and it's Steph Curry, two guys that could
- 23:13defend the perimeter and I and shoot the ball.
- 23:16He, Mikkel Bridges is a good three-point shooter.
- 23:18He's not a great, he's a good three-point shooter and he could
- 23:20defend multiple positions. If you were AGM, I should be AGM
- 23:24for the Golden State, whereas because I could be another
- 23:26Myers. If you were AGM right now, would
- 23:29you try or think to make a move for a guy like Mikkel Bridges?
- 23:36OK, so. A little background here, the
- 23:39Warriors have a number of guys who have contracts that are
- 23:42expiring here at the end of the month, and the NBA contract
- 23:46cycle goes July through June. So in order to make that deal
- 23:51work and, you know, unless you want to trade, you know,
- 23:55Draymond stuff for Jimmy Butler, you're going to have to have
- 23:58multiple bodies on that deal. Now the problem with that is
- 24:02once you sign a guy in the offseason, you can sign and
- 24:05trade him. But for the lawyers are so close
- 24:08to the cap, they can only get half the money back.
- 24:12I believe if I've gotten this right on the cap.
- 24:15But the other the other day to remember is December 15th.
- 24:18That's the day when you sign a guy in the offseason.
- 24:21That's the first day you can trade him.
- 24:23And why is that there? And it's there because they put
- 24:26that in so that teams don't here, we're going to sign this
- 24:28guy and just move them so we can get that guy.
- 24:30You know, they, they want teams to be a little bit more
- 24:33transparent in, in their dealings.
- 24:35And so it keeps, it keeps, you know, signed guy that maybe
- 24:39doesn't want to play anymore to get, you know, so they can
- 24:42balance out a trade. No, the guy has to be on your
- 24:45roster and play till December 15th.
- 24:47So, so it's just, it's a protection in there, you know,
- 24:50for for a lot of teams. And so I if that was a player
- 24:54that they were interested in, and I don't know if they would
- 24:56be, but you know, he certainly has the talent and skill set
- 25:00that that would certainly would fit just about anywhere.
- 25:03You know that that would be the way they would have to do a deal
- 25:06like that would be the side guys and then maybe make a deal.
- 25:09So I, I, I have to go in and say something about the Knicks
- 25:13because I kind of trended that way.
- 25:15When you look at the organization as a whole.
- 25:18And I know Tom Thibodeau LED them to the Eastern Conference
- 25:21finals and a lot of attacks by the Knicks.
- 25:23Within 48 hours, they fired him, Tom Thibodeau.
- 25:26And then everybody says, well, they fired him because they had
- 25:28an idea of who they brought in. They, they wanted to reach out
- 25:31to Jason Kidd. The Mavericks had no interest in
- 25:33letting him, just let the Knicks speaking to him.
- 25:35The Doka thing that Houston Rockets had no interest in
- 25:39letting the Knicks speak to him. Now the Knicks are a stupid
- 25:42organization. I trust in Leon Rose.
- 25:45I think Leon Rose has done a phenomenal job ever since he's
- 25:47taken over for all the people that have taken shots at him
- 25:50because he was an agent and all this other crap that we've
- 25:54heard. What were your thoughts when the
- 25:56Knicks decided to part ways with Tom Thibbeau, who's never taken
- 26:00a team to a Finals as a coach? And do you think that the Knicks
- 26:05already had an idea on who they were going to bring in?
- 26:07And the only reason why they have not saw, have not announced
- 26:11who they were bringing in because they wanted to make sure
- 26:15that the the playoffs were over. So they weren't taking or
- 26:18hovering over the the the finals and, and who was going to win or
- 26:22who was, who was going to, you know, be the champion of the NBA
- 26:26Finals. You think that was why Leon Rose
- 26:28decided to hold back on that? Yeah, I think, I think he who
- 26:32knows, he might be interviewing people that were that went deep
- 26:36into the playoffs, maybe an assistant coach somewhere that
- 26:38he likes or something like that. You know, that it was a little
- 26:43it was a little odd to see that firing because of the fact that,
- 26:46you know, the Knicks have done so well and and and, you know,
- 26:50they hadn't done been very good for a long time.
- 26:52So it was a little weird. You know, it kind of reminded me
- 26:57when the Warriors fired Mark Jackson, you know, if you have a
- 26:59kind of an eye roll there and raised eyebrows, well, it just
- 27:03wasn't a good fit. He was a good, he did some great
- 27:06things. He got the Warriors to play
- 27:07defense, and they hadn't played defense in like 15 years.
- 27:10So and he convinced Steph Curry and Klay Thompson that maybe
- 27:15they were better than what they were at that time.
- 27:18But he saw that they're going to be great players and, you know,
- 27:21kept calling the greatest shooting backcourt of all time.
- 27:24And that gave them a lot of confidence.
- 27:26And so he he started it, but the fit wasn't good, you know, with
- 27:30upper management and everything else.
- 27:31So to make that trip go farther, that's why they brought in Steve
- 27:35Kerr. And maybe that's why they, I'm
- 27:37not, I have no inside knowledge on any of this.
- 27:39But maybe that's what part of it was that maybe they thought it
- 27:41just wasn't the right fit that he's done a lot of great things.
- 27:44But we got looking for some other style to make that that
- 27:48next move. And, you know, when I was a kid,
- 27:50I I grew up in Connecticut and you know, the Knicks were the
- 27:53the bomb when I was a kid that, you know, you know, everybody,
- 27:56you know, everybody wanted to be Walt Frazier and and Dave the
- 27:59butcher. I wanted to be real Monroe
- 28:00because I couldn't jump so I could deal with that.
- 28:05I could only remember that Phil Jackson was like the 6th man off
- 28:08the bench or the 7th man and everybody's well, Phil won two,
- 28:12two rings as a player. I said he was a decent player,
- 28:14wasn't a great player. Phil's known for his voice of
- 28:17reason and the Zen master he was as a head coach.
- 28:20Nobody gave a crap that he played for the Knicks the two
- 28:22years that he won a championship.
- 28:24So. Yeah, the Knicks of the 70s
- 28:27reminded me a lot of the Warriors in, in, in 1415 and
- 28:311516 because they shared the ball and and everybody got
- 28:35touched. They did have the stars and guys
- 28:37could really score like, like Steph.
- 28:39But it was a real, they were real team.
- 28:41And that that's it, you know, and that's one of the reasons I
- 28:43really love the Finals. I thought Indiana and Oklahoma
- 28:45City, for the most part, they played really strong team
- 28:48basketball. You know, everybody had the
- 28:50roles, but it wasn't, you know, just watching a guy go ISO the
- 28:54whole game and and, you know, back somebody down to try to get
- 28:57a A20 footer over the top of them.
- 28:59I I really enjoyed it. Tim, before we let go of
- 29:02quickly, do you think the NBA had it right, the LJA had it
- 29:06right that Shay Alexander was the MVP over Yokich after what
- 29:10Yokich did this year? Everybody we've seen this is a
- 29:13big man that had a triple double.
- 29:15I mean, we Russell Westbrook was the far and along the best
- 29:19player when he won, when he won, when he had a triple double,
- 29:21James Harden too. Do you think the NBA or the LJ
- 29:24had it wrong picking Shay Alexander over Yokich?
- 29:29Well, he was a great player on the best team in the league.
- 29:33So you got that. But also, I also think because
- 29:35we're human beings and human beings vote for this, that there
- 29:39is a thing. I, you know, MVP fatigue, you
- 29:42know, where if a guy's won it a couple times or won before they
- 29:46look around, find somebody else. You know, you could have given
- 29:48the MVP to Michael Jordan, you know, each of his last, you
- 29:51know, six years, but you know, he went to a couple of other
- 29:53guys because that I think they just got people got tired of
- 29:57voting for Michael. They wanted to see somebody else
- 29:58win the award. And so I, I think there's a
- 30:01little bit of that's a human element, But, but you know, to
- 30:04me, either one of those guys was fine because I think they're
- 30:08both great players. And, and again, the, it's
- 30:11amazing to me, the amazing thing about watching pro sports in the
- 30:15NB for me, the NBA in particular, because I cover it,
- 30:18is that every six years or so, there's a whole new influx of
- 30:22young talent. You know, you see that in
- 30:24baseball now, a whole bunch of great young players coming in in
- 30:27the MLB and the NFL is the same way.
- 30:29And, and it's, it really, it's amazing how you know, you get
- 30:33used to the crop of guys that are at the top of the league and
- 30:36then all of a sudden in three or four years you got to revise it
- 30:38again because all these guys are coming in and and just taking
- 30:41over. So the the real answer to that
- 30:43is the LJA got it wrong. Don't.
- 30:48Get the LJA too much bashing if the LJA really had its way.
- 30:52Next next time, next time just e-mail me the answers you want,
- 30:56OK? And I'll just go.
- 30:57You gave. It to me I mean.
- 30:58Think of it this way though, if the LJA really got what it want,
- 31:01the MV, the top three MVP would be LeBron, Brawny, and then his
- 31:05son that hasn't even been drafted yet.
- 31:07I knew it. By the way, Cooper flag is a
- 31:12sensational player. He's the next face of United
- 31:15States basketball. So Mr. Colostomy bag who came
- 31:18out on the Bill Simmons show saying that he's no good or he
- 31:22says that he is, What did he compare to shrimp that left
- 31:24shrimp? What an idiot.
- 31:26I mean, what a ridiculous take. Bill Simmons PUPU.
- 31:32OK, what a disgusting disgrace of a man that has to come out
- 31:36and says says something stupid like that.
- 31:38But nevertheless, Tim, I don't want to get you in trouble.
- 31:41The oja might be lurking. OK, so we love you.
- 31:44Keep up the good work. Before I let you go, we had
- 31:47Bryant Snowman on our show. He called up.
- 31:50He's on our network. He does the morning show on our
- 31:53our and he met you a couple I think a couple of years ago.
- 31:55He said he met you in Chicago. In Chicago, he would love to get
- 31:58you on the show. If we give you his information,
- 32:01would you be interested in going on the show?
- 32:04Sure. I'll do.
- 32:05All right. Thank you so much, Timmy.
- 32:07Timmy, we love you. You're the best in the business.
- 32:09We do. Thanks so much.
- 32:12Appreciate it. Take care.
- 32:13Tim Roy, the one and only, the one and only.
- 32:16Let's give it up. Let's give it up, Timmy.
- 32:21Timmy loves the show, he does. And I want to say something.
- 32:25Tim knows for the facts of the way the LJA works that the LJA
- 32:30was absolutely a junk organization that knows that the
- 32:36Yokage Trend should have been the one and only MVP of the
- 32:40league. I'm just, I'm just speaking the
- 32:41truth here. The LJ got it wrong as he was
- 32:45trying to be very nice about it. Anyways, ladies and gentlemen,
- 32:48we call this segment sounded out.
- 32:51Take a roll here. J Quelin.
- 32:52Where's J Quelin at? No J Quelin here.
- 32:54Do you mean Jacqueline? Let's sound it out.
- 32:57What you call me? Sound it out out.
- 33:03Here we go. Oh, Errol, it's back.
- 33:06You come back, we're back with another episode of sounded out
- 33:10Phonic Shamanics. Errol's got it.
- 33:16Are you ready? Because we're going to go into
- 33:19after this segment preview of the NBA draft, which is on
- 33:23Wednesday and Thursday. We'll go over first round of the
- 33:27draft on our Thursday show while the second round is going on.
- 33:32Maybe we'll be some. We'll talk about some sleepers
- 33:34in the top half of the second round.
- 33:36I'm sure nobody's really going to talk about the third string
- 33:39Polar center that gets drafted #60 but we'll see what happens.
- 33:44Because Errol, I've got three names from the NBA draft in the
- 33:49past 10 years that you're going to have to sound out on
- 33:53tonight's episode of Sounded Out.
- 33:55Are you ready to play? I guess you can throw a couple
- 33:58curves and if I can catch it I'm in good shape.
- 34:01Oh, here's the first one. I think it was the last pick of
- 34:04the draft a couple years ago, Errol sounded.
- 34:08Out. Giorgio's hold on Kalate Zacus.
- 34:15Kalate Zacus speedy it. Is Giorgos Kalatzicus.
- 34:23This is that does not sound the same.
- 34:29He was actually the last. You're right that she was the
- 34:30last pick of the draft actually by the Thunder.
- 34:33By the the the championship winning.
- 34:36Thank you, thank you, thank you. I thought I was pretty good.
- 34:41Tommy, restart the music, let's see if he can't keep his mojo
- 34:44going for the next one on tonight.
- 34:47Sounded out Errol. Please.
- 34:49Moving on it down the draft line, here it is.
- 34:54Oh my God, sounded. Out.
- 34:57Fion do hold on. Kebenjella Kebenjelli.
- 35:04Kembenjelli. Speedy, the first name, was
- 35:08actually pretty good. It's Fayandu and then, but the
- 35:12last last name is Cabin Galley. He was the late round draft pick
- 35:17of the Brooklyn Nets from Florida.
- 35:19States how wonderful a. Florida State team, I think you
- 35:22said was going to go to the Final Four that year.
- 35:24Yes, I did. They choked.
- 35:29Choked on that one O and two, but again, all it takes is 1 to
- 35:35go one for 3/3/30 full batting. Average.
- 35:38He's an All Star in any league. Can we do it tonight?
- 35:44Here it is. I think this is on.
- 35:46Fire. Errol sounded out.
- 35:53Are you? Are you serious, Timothy Lua wua
- 36:01Cabrata? You're at Lua Wu, right?
- 36:06Timote. Yeah.
- 36:07It must be. Timote.
- 36:11French Lua Wu you got right, and then Cabrero.
- 36:15Ridiculous. What a ridiculous, ridiculous
- 36:19segment, ladies and gentlemen, because I will say this for all
- 36:23you people out there that were trying or even try to sound
- 36:26these names out, good friggin luck, OK?
- 36:30It's not easy. Yes, I'm very bad with when it
- 36:33comes to certain names. That name is like a mouthful.
- 36:37I mean, you can spit, you can jerk, and you still probably
- 36:41wouldn't get it right. So that's all I'm going to say
- 36:43about that. Sweetie.
- 36:45Listen, have you spit on anything over the last couple of
- 36:48days? On anything specifically, not
- 36:51offhand that I could think. Of not offhand.
- 36:56Did you guys get that one? Not offhand, I'm sorry, I just
- 37:03had to do that. Anyways, with the NBA draft 2
- 37:11days away, there have been many draft rumors around several
- 37:16projected top five picks, including Rutgers forward A's
- 37:20Bailey. ESP NS Jonathan Gavani reported
- 37:24that Bailey has not had any workouts with teams and canceled
- 37:29a meeting scheduled to 76ers. One Western Conference NBA
- 37:34executive said that Bailey could be out of the league in five
- 37:38years if he ends up in the wrong situation.
- 37:42Many NBA executive believe another top five projected pick
- 37:47baller guard VJ Edgecomb, right. Am I right?
- 37:51Yes won't average 12 points per game in the NBA.
- 37:55ESPN reports that the 76 years very high in Edgecomb, but are
- 38:01still trying to trade up with the Spurs at #2 to draft guard
- 38:08Dylan Harper. Even though the Spurs are
- 38:11unlikely to trade out of the pick, The Athletic David
- 38:15Aldridge reports that the Eastern Conference scouts don't
- 38:18see Duke guard Con hold on Canoble as a difference maker in
- 38:24the NBA. Aldridge added that multiple ACC
- 38:28coaches who have had or played against Cooper Flagg think he
- 38:35will be a generational talent in the NBA and thinks that he plays
- 38:39the right way without the big ego that has hurt top NBA
- 38:45prospects. I have said this for the last
- 38:50eight years, ladies and gentlemen.
- 38:52You can sell it, You can dish it when it comes to the LJA, you
- 38:56can sell me and throw me to the walls if I'm wrong about this.
- 39:01Cooper Flag is going to be one of the top five players in the
- 39:05NBA in the next 4 years. You've heard it here.
- 39:08There is no argument to that. His ability to do the things
- 39:12that he does well. He's a good rebounder, he's a
- 39:16good shooter. His three-point shot is going to
- 39:18get better. He is the white Kevin Durant.
- 39:23I have said this for a long, long time and people thought I
- 39:26was nuts. Well, how do you do that?
- 39:28How could you compare that? He's not a great shooter.
- 39:30Let let let's go through Kevin Durant's background where he
- 39:34came from Texas and the Longhorns.
- 39:36Kevin Durant was a great offensive player.
- 39:38He was the number two pick in the draft.
- 39:40He was drafted right behind a guy was an absolute bombshell
- 39:43who didn't even play at a really a full season with the the
- 39:48Portland Trail Blazers and then was out of the NBA four years.
- 39:52Really. I I I understand why people
- 39:54don't like Cooper flag. He's not he's not a athletically
- 39:59gifted talent in their eyes. He doesn't show you why he would
- 40:04be a Kyrie Irving coming from Duke or Grant Hill or even a
- 40:08Bobby Hurley. We've seen over the years come
- 40:10from the Duke Blue Devils, even a Jason Jason Williams.
- 40:14Here's why. This guy is a generational
- 40:17talent. This guy doesn't talk about
- 40:19anybody. He doesn't throw anybody under
- 40:21the bus. He goes out there, plays his
- 40:22heart out, he blocks. He is an Ultimate Team player.
- 40:26The Mavericks got a gem. He is going to be a better
- 40:29player than Luka Doncic. And this draft who everybody
- 40:33thought was going to be an all time great draft, I, I just
- 40:37don't see it. There's a lot of questions in
- 40:40this coming draft. The Bailey thing, I don't know
- 40:43what E Bailey is going to be. I think he's a top five draft
- 40:46pick. I don't understand why people
- 40:48don't like him. I like that he has gone out and
- 40:52said what he has said after the fact.
- 40:55This guy is an ultimate talented player and if he falls and he
- 40:59falls out of the first round and he falls to the New York Knicks,
- 41:02a slam dunk. We have seen this before.
- 41:04As a matter of fact, we saw that this year in the NFL and I'll
- 41:09say this again, as we have seen from the Sanders boy, Shador
- 41:13Sanders opening his mouth and twiddling around with his nice
- 41:17fancy cars and his NIL deals, Ace Bailey is not as bad as
- 41:22Shador Sanders. Is he a good person?
- 41:24I don't know. I don't know him personally, I
- 41:27don't know his family, I don't know where he comes from.
- 41:29What I do know is Rutgers basketball was a pretty good
- 41:33basketball program and this guy was looked at as a top 10
- 41:36prospect for how many years? This guy Before the season last
- 41:42year they said Ace Bailey was going to be a top five, top 6th
- 41:45pick in next year's Raft class. So why any GM or executive
- 41:50thinks that this guy's going to be a bomb shows you how stupid
- 41:54the LGA and these organizations are.
- 41:56Now the Spurs are an organization that's going to be
- 41:59looking for a point guard. The Aaron Fox is not a good fit
- 42:03over there. With the Spurs, I never thought
- 42:05it was a good fit. I could see them drafting at
- 42:08number at #2 the point guard. I think Dylan Harper, which he's
- 42:12the guard who everybody thinks is the second best player in
- 42:15this class, I think he goes there.
- 42:17I think D Aaron Fox will be traded in the offseason, maybe
- 42:21at the draft to get a tremendous amount of players for D Aaron
- 42:26Fox. The Spurs are maybe if they get
- 42:30and and this kid Park, Dylan Harper becomes the player that I
- 42:33think he's going to become. You're a player away from being
- 42:36a contender in the NBA, in the Western Conference.
- 42:38He. Also takes 7 foot wingspan.
- 42:42Yeah, he he's special, man. He's a great ball handler.
- 42:45He can shoot. He could do all these things and
- 42:48he could defend multiple positions.
- 42:50He I've seen him I've I've seen him defend threes at at some
- 42:54points this year for Rutgers and comes from a program that plays
- 42:58defense, really good defense. He's played fours and he's a
- 43:02guard. He's a 1.
- 43:03So I mean, he's special. And everybody keeps talking
- 43:06about Tyrese Halbern. He is the identical match of a
- 43:11Tyrese Halbern, maybe even better athletic so and Tyrese
- 43:16Halpern can't defend like this kid.
- 43:17So I I mean this kid is going to be he's not Cooper flag good,
- 43:22but he's right under his talents.
- 43:25So I I don't get it. Why everybody?
- 43:28And by the way, canoople is a great offensive talent.
- 43:30I have no idea what any of these NBA executives are thinking.
- 43:34This guy was the second best player on the Duke Blue Devils
- 43:37this year offensively. Even in going to the final four.
- 43:40This guy was as good as Cooper fled.
- 43:42I was gonna. Say like later in the
- 43:43tournament, he was probably the best player.
- 43:45Yeah, I don't get it. I I don't get what they're
- 43:48saying. But again, the NBA has always
- 43:50gotten it wrong. Did anybody think that certain
- 43:53players were going to? How about the Greek Freak?
- 43:55Why did he fall away to what, 1516 the way he did to
- 43:58Milwaukee? Where?
- 43:59Where are the NBA executives on that one?
- 44:01Idiots. How about Jokic falling to the
- 44:04second round? Where were the NBA executives on
- 44:07that one? I could go on and on and on.
- 44:09The NBA executives are as good as the LGA has been.
- 44:13When LeBron James or the LeBron James Association was built,
- 44:17when he was drafted in 2000, what was it, 4 or 2006?
- 44:21Three or three, whatever. I mean, it was born and built
- 44:25through that draft class because we all know what came out of
- 44:28that draft class, Carmelo Anthony and the one and only
- 44:32Dwyane Wade. So I just think that this is an
- 44:35absolute mockery. I don't know how.
- 44:37First of all, the NBA is a wishy wash.
- 44:40You don't know how these players going to be.
- 44:41Do I think this class is going to be great?
- 44:43I don't know. But I could tell you there's at
- 44:45least four really good players in his class.
- 44:48And the three guys that we have mentioned, Bailey Harper and the
- 44:53one and only flag, those are three, all three of them are
- 44:56going to be good players in the NBA.
- 44:58Shame on the Colostromy bag or anybody that comes out and says
- 45:01the stupidity or remarks the stupid shit that we've heard
- 45:04over the last couple of weeks. Yeah, Edgecomb's a talented
- 45:08player too. Again, undersized.
- 45:10Maybe that's why a lot of these executives are are more
- 45:12concerned about him. But we've seen a lot of these
- 45:14quicker point guards still be good in today's game.
- 45:16Now again, it's not as much of A point guard driven league as we
- 45:18saw even like last decade we were talking about with Tim Roy
- 45:21with with Steph Curry and a lot of these other dynamic back
- 45:23courts that we've seen over the years.
- 45:25But at the same time, that doesn't mean you can't have one
- 45:27focal point with somebody like Edgecomb who's still 64, could
- 45:30bulk into his body a lot more too.
- 45:32So anything thinking he's going to fall out of the top ten like
- 45:34a lot of these rumors? Are, and a lot of these foreign
- 45:36players come out of nowhere too. We, I, I, I wouldn't be
- 45:39surprised if two or three of these foreign players become
- 45:41stars in the league because the NBA has become an international
- 45:45game. As we all know, the three best
- 45:47players in the league this year were what?
- 45:50Foreign players, right? And there's 2 French guys that
- 45:53could go top. I was.
- 45:54Just going to bench to that. Yep, as sangue is the one that's
- 45:57projected. I don't believe in these French
- 45:58guys, honestly. I I really I think.
- 46:01They did play well in any of them.
- 46:02They did play well in the Olympics, though, especially as
- 46:04Sangay playing well just as well as Wembe at certain points
- 46:07during the the the group stages. And he's, according to this ESPN
- 46:11mock draft, expect to be #9 and fish, like you were saying.
- 46:13He could even climb into maybe the fringe top five if somebody
- 46:16else falls like Knipple, like Trey Johnson is another one
- 46:19that's projected possibly to fall with similar issues like
- 46:22Bailey's having. It's just a lot of this pre
- 46:24draft process, but like saying like a lot of these kids are
- 46:26young, like these pre draft processes aren't like in the NFL
- 46:30where they're like conducting all these interviews and doing
- 46:32all these tests for them. I'm not hearing that it's
- 46:34because of the young kids, though.
- 46:36I'm hearing it's because of representation, that Bailey's
- 46:40representation has cancelled workouts with three teams
- 46:44because he. Doesn't want to go there.
- 46:46One of them, he doesn't want to go there.
- 46:47Right. And that's, that's the point,
- 46:48right. So they're trying to do a
- 46:51manipulation of the draft, which we really haven't seen agents be
- 46:55as brazen as this trying to do in the NBA.
- 46:58We've seen in the NFL, we know Eli Manning forced his way to
- 47:01New York. We know years ago John Elway
- 47:04forced his way to the Broncos. We know this happens every once
- 47:07in a while. Oh, Jackson did, too.
- 47:09From Tampa. To oh, Jackson famously right,
- 47:12sat out the entire year and then was taken and they didn't even
- 47:15realize he could be drafted and he got taken at the end of the
- 47:17draft the next. Year and actually Mark Stewart
- 47:19could do that this year. Imagine if that happens, that's
- 47:22a whole other story. I can't wait.
- 47:23If that does happen, we will talk about it in great detail
- 47:26with the Bengals. I mean, there was even like a
- 47:28kid who like was making fun of Joe Burrow for not making the
- 47:31playoffs and like they got to get defense on his team.
- 47:35See, that went viral the other day.
- 47:37But guys, the NBA draft for me, I, I just wanted to cover a
- 47:41couple of guys. You talked about Edgecomb.
- 47:43I really like Edgecomb. I, I think there's, there's a
- 47:46lot of weird stuff that that's going to happen in the top
- 47:48seven. I don't think teams are dumb
- 47:50enough to bite on this agent nonsense of we're not going to
- 47:54see Ace Bailey work out. So he's going to fall below 3.
- 47:57He's going three. I'm sorry.
- 48:00Everybody knows he is that next guy.
- 48:02He's a prototypical wing. He had like a big wing.
- 48:06He's an offensive player. He projects to be long
- 48:09defensively and get more athletic with that frame.
- 48:12He's probably not done growing. I can't see him going lower than
- 48:16four at the latest of a team really likes Edge could.
- 48:19You say that's a big trade up possibility too.
- 48:21I know Utah is very. Could you?
- 48:22Remember the last time 2 Rutgers players in the NBA Draft were
- 48:27drafted in the top five? Never have.
- 48:30I don't even remember the last Rucker player that was drafted
- 48:33in a top five. Because they only just became a
- 48:35power conference like 10 Stony Brook representation day by Cal
- 48:40doing a great job coaching. This and still like Brook coach.
- 48:42Like even that it took them like 15 years.
- 48:44They've only been a Power Five team, a Big 10 team for 15 years
- 48:47about, and they've only been a really good basketball team
- 48:49probably the last five years. Trying to find the A list, maybe
- 48:54one of our interns can find the highest drafted Rutgers players
- 48:58of all time, but it's for sure these two guys are going to do
- 49:00it. And there's a reason why I'm not
- 49:02even going to mention Bailey at 3 above 3, because there's no
- 49:05doubt that Dylan Harper is going to.
- 49:08This guy's unbelievable. He, he's great.
- 49:12He is a prize as well in many other drafts, you know, that
- 49:15didn't have Cooper flag in it. He would be #1. #100.
- 49:19Percent he he is fantastic player.
- 49:21I mean, you could just see him dicing everybody up in college.
- 49:24I like his hair, that's my favorite part of his game.
- 49:27Well, we'll see. You know, if you don't remember,
- 49:29like James Harden didn't do any of the hair stuff until he got
- 49:32out of the out of college, you know, So who knows?
- 49:35What he is a more athletic Tyrese Halliburton who can
- 49:38defend too. That's what he is.
- 49:41He's a better he's a better you know, on paper, you know, not
- 49:44can't talk about the IQ, the stuff, the intangible stuff that
- 49:48Halliburton has shown that he can do now in the clutch
- 49:51playing. We don't know about that, but
- 49:53better athlete. He's a better athlete 65 point
- 49:57guard, same thing, right. He's he's a little bit it looks
- 50:01like he's a little bit stronger and I.
- 50:03Jake got him. James Bailey 1979 Drafted six
- 50:07overall in 1979. This is obviously going to break
- 50:11it, so it's really impressive. Thank you.
- 50:13It's really impressive. Rutgers, you know.
- 50:16I want to go back. It's really cool I.
- 50:17Want to go back to something Errol was mentioning too.
- 50:19Like if they do draft Dylan Harper, they still have Stefan
- 50:22Castle there. There are rumors they are
- 50:23looking to shop the number 14 pick that they also have.
- 50:26Would they could could they include that with Fox in a
- 50:28potential deal is something that could be interesting.
- 50:31They're looking for something bigger.
- 50:32There are a lot of teams right now.
- 50:34We've mentioned the Golden State Warriors, the New York Knicks
- 50:36that don't have a first round draft pick next year.
- 50:38The Knicks have to possibly it all depends on the Wizards this
- 50:43and by the way the the LJA with this crap with the unprotected
- 50:47protected picks, That is ridiculous.
- 50:50I don't want to hear this anymore.
- 50:51The NBA has to get this this statistic or the way they
- 50:56calculate an unprotected and protected pick.
- 50:58Yeah, if you and football do it fine, why don't do conditional?
- 51:00If you if you trade the pick, the pick goes to that team.
- 51:05Stop. Well, if it's a top 11 pick,
- 51:08they, they keep their pick. That doesn't make any sense.
- 51:11You're giving up a prospect. How many times have we seen the
- 51:14Knicks over the last couple of years give up a, a top 12 pick
- 51:18And they're, they get the other teams pick the year after two
- 51:22years after, which is if, if, if it's if it's a top 11 pick,
- 51:26it's, it's protected and they they don't get the pick.
- 51:28And then they got to wait another year.
- 51:30And if it gets there and then all all of a sudden it falls all
- 51:32the way to a second round pick. How is that fair?
- 51:34The Knicks lost two of them in the same draft.
- 51:36How is that fair? It doesn't make it look what
- 51:38they did with Kristaps Porzingis.
- 51:40I mean, they got screwed off that Chris, Kristaps Porzingis
- 51:43train. What did they get out of that?
- 51:45They got nothing. They lost Chris and it helped
- 51:48them. It helped the Boston Celtics
- 51:50because they won an NBA title a couple years later because he
- 51:53gets traded over there. It doesn't make sense and the
- 51:56NBA or the LJ needs to fix this. LeBron James needs to sit with
- 52:00Mr. Dumbo himself and have a conversation on how this works
- 52:04because it doesn't make sense. They they created the Bird
- 52:07situation because the Larry Bird Bird writes that that helped the
- 52:12Celtics and a lot of other teams.
- 52:13How does this help teams like the Knicks or even the Chicago
- 52:16Bulls over the years that they got screwed?
- 52:19OK, it doesn't make sense. And the NBA or the LJA or the
- 52:25Rudy Gobert NBA garbage. I mean, it's just it doesn't I
- 52:30made it mention Rudy Gobert because nobody even remembers
- 52:32Rudy Gobert. But the the fact is.
- 52:35Draymond Green does, yeah. That's about it.
- 52:37He's the only one. The fact is the LJ has to figure
- 52:42out how this makes sense. It's not fair to other
- 52:45organizations that are put in a situation where they they have a
- 52:49number seven pick or 8th pick. They traded away because a team
- 52:52wants a certain player. But the year after, two years
- 52:55later. If it's not, if it's a protected
- 52:58pick, the other team could lose the option to get that pick
- 53:02because of how bad they are. Two years.
- 53:04If you trade the pick, that pick, no matter how bad they
- 53:07are, goes to that team no matter what.
- 53:10And that has to be cleaned up because in the new CBA and, and
- 53:14the way the new CBA comes out, when, when's the next CBA three
- 53:18years from now, four years from now?
- 53:19I don't know when it is, but I. Think we said three last time
- 53:22we. Looked.
- 53:22It has to. It has to be cleaned up, this
- 53:24need. This is the one thing that I
- 53:26think is affected my thoughts, or even optional thoughts of
- 53:30trading away picks at any point in the draft, because it's not
- 53:33even that. Makes sense of it, right?
- 53:35You know, like, as a as a fan that like loves the sport, it's
- 53:38hard to even tell what teams are doing.
- 53:41You know that like a guy like Sam Presti just is going to have
- 53:43picks because he's a magician with it.
- 53:45And that's why they're in the position they're at.
- 53:47But when you have these deals with how the Knicks got screwed
- 53:49out of picks the last couple years, two years in a row, like,
- 53:53you know, it's it's teams are manipulating.
- 53:56And once that happens, you got to fix it.
- 53:57I wanted to talk about two guys before we finish the subject
- 54:01that I wanted to put up a highlight of the first guy is
- 54:04from Duke, the Duke center, Malak Malak now great, great
- 54:08player. So here's the thing.
- 54:12I don't know if he's a great player.
- 54:13He's got great size, but when you watch him play, he only does
- 54:18a couple of things right. He doesn't have a diverse
- 54:21offensive game, to put it mildly.
- 54:22He's a rim runner now that's great and he has size on
- 54:25defense. But you're just projecting right
- 54:27now, right? You're just projecting.
- 54:29But Mitchell Robinson was projected in the same way as a
- 54:32second round pick. So I.
- 54:34Hold on. Well, hold on.
- 54:36He was 1880. He decided to play overseas,
- 54:39remember, Or the G League. What did he do?
- 54:40He went overseas. He decided.
- 54:43He decided. I'll say this right now,
- 54:45Mitchell Robinson would have been a top five, top seven pick
- 54:49if if that's that stuff didn't happen and he decided he was
- 54:53supposed to go to SMU. Remember that.
- 54:54I think it was SMU, Larry Brown. I'm not, I don't quote me on it,
- 54:58but I think that was the team and he decided not to play and
- 55:02that hurt him not. Playing for Larry Brown, that
- 55:04Larry Brown's career. I'm just saying that hurt him.
- 55:07And he was projected to be a top five, top seven pick in the
- 55:11draft and he fell all the way to the second round.
- 55:13And by the way, the Knicks got lucky that he fell to the
- 55:16Knicks. That was one pick that the
- 55:17Knicks really got lucky. And by the way, if you look at
- 55:20Mitch Robinson, Mitch Robinson when healthy is one of the best
- 55:23centers in the NBA. So if Malik is anywhere close to
- 55:26that kind of player, you got a gem.
- 55:29That's what you want. And centers do not grow on
- 55:30trees. Guys that could defend, block
- 55:33and do the things that when he was on, when he was in the game,
- 55:36especially all the way to the Final Four, he played a big
- 55:39factor in every part of those games on why the Duke Blue
- 55:42Devils moved on. So I disagree with you.
- 55:44I think he's a good player and he can absolutely build a shot.
- 55:48We've seen big men build shots as we see one right now with the
- 55:51Boston Celtics that's won a title just recently.
- 55:54He's now an old timer, but he wasn't a great shooter when he
- 55:58went to the NBA so. I don't disagree, I just feel
- 56:00like it would break like a pattern these days where those
- 56:03types of guys are generally not taken as high because that the
- 56:07skill set. You have to be super athletic,
- 56:09you can't be slow, you have to be able to rotate some perimeter
- 56:12like Mitch. Right, But if Mitch had the
- 56:15exposure of Duke, maybe he does go in this spot where Malacca is
- 56:19being projected to go was like a 7th or 8th pick.
- 56:21I'm sorry Duran would have missed something.
- 56:23I think a lot of analogy where they could go like he went 12
- 56:26still with having similar size and I think quickness for a big
- 56:29man. I think that Malak does have.
- 56:30I don't know if he has the upside of Duran like overall but
- 56:33he's still pretty good skill set wise.
- 56:35That's what I say though, like him at 8, it feels a little high
- 56:39just from what you've seen recently, that's all.
- 56:42I don't think he's going to be a bad player.
- 56:43I just think with his skill set, the guy that I'm fascinated by,
- 56:46I'm going to play. His highlight is Mr. Fierce from
- 56:50Oklahoma. If you watched any Oklahoma,
- 56:53this guy, I like him, is so much fun to watch play, but he
- 56:57doesn't play a whole lot of defense.
- 57:00That's bad. He's really exciting.
- 57:02Obviously no. It reminds me of.
- 57:03Right. Great handle, Kyrie.
- 57:05It could be like, I would say more like a he's about, he's the
- 57:10same size as Kyrie. You think he's 636263?
- 57:12It reminds me of a A. Kyrie 180.
- 57:15Derrick Rose, his game likes to go to the hole.
- 57:18He goes to the hole strong. He's a great ball.
- 57:20He's better ball handler than Derrick Rose.
- 57:22But the guy has a tremendous ability going and by the way, he
- 57:25can go left and right. So I, I, I know who you're
- 57:28talking about, He's a guy that could be a steal in the draft.
- 57:32Could be a steal. He either is going to figure it
- 57:34out competently on defense and be able to play within a season.
- 57:38He doesn't have to be the NBA. The LJA has become a
- 57:41one-dimensional type of gaming, but.
- 57:42Again, it's also with a size thing like I think it wasn't
- 57:45because of lack of effort. Oklahoma as a defensive minded
- 57:48coach over there. Porter Moser, who's?
- 57:50Which is surprising because their football team in our for
- 57:53over the years, Lincoln Riley. Lincoln Riley, I didn't even Bob
- 57:58Stoops, but he was coaching there.
- 57:58Before that, they never had great defensive teams either,
- 58:00but they get Porter Moser, who was Loyola Chicago's coach, who
- 58:03was one of the best defensive defenses in the country.
- 58:06And then he goes over there. Oklahoma we talk about, we talk,
- 58:08we talk about all hear how historically good SEC basketball
- 58:11was this year. And that could have been a lot
- 58:13of the stats they were rigged against him.
- 58:15But it's also the size 63180. It's just not as big for the NBA
- 58:18game, but I think that's something that can be developed
- 58:20with. Good.
- 58:21I I doubt I don't understand either.
- 58:23I don't care how tall you are. Mugsy Bogues was in the league.
- 58:26He was like 5 foot four. OK, I understand the league in
- 58:29the game is different and and and Steph Curry has really
- 58:33brought that out. When Steph Curry came into leak,
- 58:35he was thin, he was scrawny, and I think he grew 2 inches.
- 58:38When he came out came out from Davidson, he was like 6-1.
- 58:43When he came out of the NBA draft, he grew 2 inches.
- 58:46When he was in the NBA, he was small, skinny, scrawny, and
- 58:50nobody thought he was going to last in the NBA or the LJ.
- 58:53And look what he's turned out to be.
- 58:55He's become one of the best players in the NBA over the last
- 58:581213 years. I don't want to hear it anymore
- 59:01about size. Size doesn't matter unless
- 59:03you're in the bed. If you're in the sack, speedy,
- 59:05size matters. But size.
- 59:07That cares about that more. Size matters.
- 59:09Speaking of Nathan, we we miss Nathan and we have breaking
- 59:12news. Breaking news, I farted.
- 59:14That's that's the truth. I farted too by the way, and it
- 59:17smells. I just, and my farts don't
- 59:21smell. I still have those salty
- 59:23feelings over here in my pants and they're definitely stuck.
- 59:27I I I'll be honest, you can ask Brittany.
- 59:31I heard her. Moan in the other room about.
- 59:32That Brittany. Are you here?
- 59:33Come over here. I I I want her.
- 59:36I want her to hold on. Can we cut salty farts in my
- 59:39pants? She I I definitely want her to
- 59:41say, you know, she she smelt the the salty farts.
- 59:45Speedy get her on for a second right just for a second I come
- 59:51on speak it to the mic. It was horrible.
- 59:54It was horrible. You think it was definitely
- 59:56something that you don't want to imagine, but they definitely I
- 1:00:01definitely probably scared a bunch of giraffes out of the
- 1:00:03bedroom. So it was it was an interesting
- 1:00:06smell, but definitely something what am I in a jail cell right
- 1:00:10there? Oh, there I am, Yes.
- 1:00:11That's probably true. And there's the sharks waiting
- 1:00:14for me when I go in the water. By the way, I didn't realize
- 1:00:17that Bermuda is around coral reefs and sharks don't really
- 1:00:21hang out around there. But then again, Brittany didn't
- 1:00:24realize that that the guy was we were driving and he said, well,
- 1:00:27there were hammerheads seen, you know, you know, somewhere around
- 1:00:30the waters over the last couple of months.
- 1:00:32And she's like, if I heard that I would have went on a jet ski.
- 1:00:35So we were on the jet skis. By the way, got great video on
- 1:00:38it. I definitely got to send you the
- 1:00:39video. So you guys, because you hear
- 1:00:41her ski. So she had fun.
