- 0:01Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to The Precap, a daily show podcast
- 0:04Speaker 1: where we sit down with this week's host to take
- 0:06Speaker 1: a look at this week's news and talk about what
- 0:08Speaker 1: we missed from last week.
- 0:09Speaker 2: My name is Nicole Conlon.
- 0:10Speaker 1: I'm a writer at the show, and I am joined
- 0:12Speaker 1: today by the incomparable Michael Kosta.
- 0:14Speaker 3: Hi, I'm Michael Kosta. I'll be the host this week.
- 0:17Speaker 2: So exciting.
- 0:17Speaker 3: Fun to be sitting here with you, Nicole.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Fun to be sitting here with you, and of course, Walter.
- 0:22Speaker 3: Walter, what's your role this week besides host emotional support?
- 0:28Speaker 3: For those of you that do want to know, This
- 0:30Speaker 3: is a very dog-friendly office.
- 0:32Speaker 4: Yes.
- 0:32Speaker 3: And Walter is here almost every day. Every day I'm here,
- 0:36Speaker 3: Walter's here.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Yes. It's as grumpy as he seems now. He has
- 0:39Speaker 1: actually warmed up to me considerably.
- 0:41Speaker 3: It's only taken six years of you working at the Dill.
- 0:44Speaker 3: He is slow to warm up, but in a weird way,
- 0:47Speaker 3: I kind of like it because I feel like maybe
- 0:50Speaker 3: in my life, I.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Warm up too quickly to people.
- 0:54Speaker 5: Sure.
- 0:55Speaker 3: So maybe he's like, hey, man.
- 0:56Speaker 2: He's a good balance.
- 0:57Speaker 3: He's a good balance.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Right.
- 0:58Speaker 3: A good balance, yeah.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Right. Well, Walter, if we get any facts wrong, I'm
- 1:01Speaker 1: going to need you to fact check us on this episode.
- 1:03Speaker 3: Yes, please.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Or take a nap.
- 1:05Speaker 3: Either way.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Let's start with what has happened in the world in
- 1:09Speaker 1: the past week. We have been off for a week.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:13Speaker 2: We were on break. I was in Ireland. It was awesome.
- 1:15Speaker 3: Yeah. Isn't it fun when you're in a different country?
- 1:20Speaker 3: One of my favorite parts about traveling... um, abroad is you,
- 1:25Speaker 3: you almost inherently see how other people see us.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:30Speaker 3: Cause you see their news.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:31Speaker 3: And it's always like, oh shit.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:34Speaker 1: I will say everybody in Ireland was still very friendly to.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Me, which was good.
- 1:41Speaker 3: There's such good people.
- 1:42Speaker 2: They're, they're so nice.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Um, now I will say having been there for a week,
- 1:46Speaker 1: I fully checked out of the news and so missed
- 1:48Speaker 1: a lot of what happened this week.
- 1:50Speaker 3: Yep.
- 1:50Speaker 1: But it seems to be that one of the running
- 1:52Speaker 1: themes from the past week is this White House 250
- 1:55Speaker 1: celebration and all of the event planning debacle surrounding that.
- 2:00Speaker 1: So the biggest news, I think, was they were having
- 2:02Speaker 1: this big concert with a bunch of acts that everybody
- 2:06Speaker 1: knows and remembers. And then one by one, they slowly
- 2:10Speaker 1: started dropping out as people got mad at them. So
- 2:13Speaker 1: some of the acts who dropped out were Bret Michaels
- 2:17Speaker 1: from the band Poison and like Several VH1 reality shows,
- 2:21Speaker 1: I think.
- 2:22Speaker 2: That's true.
- 2:22Speaker 3: That's true.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Martina McBride. Okay. Morris Day and The Time.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 2:29Speaker 3: Classic.
- 2:29Speaker 5: Sure.
- 2:29Speaker 2: The Commodores.
- 2:31Speaker 4: Yep.
- 2:31Speaker 6: Wow.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Easy Like Sunday Morning, right?
- 2:32Speaker 1: Yes.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Okay. Young MC.
- 2:35Speaker 3: Which the only song that I believe he's ever sang.
- 2:41Speaker 2: I only know the one.
- 2:42Speaker 3: Is, wait. I used to know it. And you're going
- 2:45Speaker 3: to know it. But do I remember it? Leave it
- 2:47Speaker 3: in the comments down below.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Believe it or not, I know every word to that song.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Young MC, what is it called?
- 2:54Speaker 2: This here's a.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Jam for all the fellas trying to do what those
- 2:57Speaker 1: ladies tell us.
- 2:58Speaker 3: There we go, yeah.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Bust a move.
- 2:59Speaker 3: Bust a move. Yeah, when I heard that Young MC
- 3:02Speaker 3: was on the docket, I go, of course he is,
- 3:04Speaker 3: because Sylvester Stallone is at the Kennedy Center. Of course,
- 3:08Speaker 3: of course.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Yeah, this is how you prolong your career. Okay, now,
- 3:13Speaker 1: my card here says the original vocalists of Milli Vanilli,
- 3:16Speaker 1: but then on the poster.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Oh, right.
- 3:19Speaker 1: It was a, it was a picture of one of
- 3:20Speaker 1: the guys who did the lip syncing. So I don't
- 3:23Speaker 1: know which is correct.
- 3:24Speaker 3: And I'll tell you what, I don't even know if
- 3:27Speaker 3: the current generation even knows or understands what Milli Vanilli is, was, wasn't.
- 3:32Speaker 1: When I said Milli Vanilli, our YouTube views dropped like 5,000 people.
- 3:38Speaker 3: These were two with two singers with A number one hit.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Two of them, right?
- 3:45Speaker 1: Multiple.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Yeah, Blame It on the Rain.
- 3:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:47Speaker 2: And another one I can't remember.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Did you see her?
- 3:50Speaker 2: That sounds right.
- 3:50Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Tell me, have you seen? But they were not the singers.
- 3:55Speaker 2: No, they were lip syncing.
- 3:56Speaker 3: They were lip syncing the entire thing. And they also
- 3:58Speaker 3: didn't even, it's not like they were lip syncing their performances.
- 4:01Speaker 3: They were not singing. Like the CD.
- 4:06Speaker 2: They were like two young, hot guys.
- 4:09Speaker 1: And then the actual singers were, As far as I
- 4:12Speaker 1: can remember, like middle-aged, like normal looking studio musicians.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Correct. And the songs that were recorded were not their voices.
- 4:20Speaker 3: That's what I want people to know.
- 4:21Speaker 4: Yes.
- 4:22Speaker 3: Okay.
- 4:23Speaker 4: Yes.
- 4:23Speaker 2: And now they are also not performing at the White House.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Freedom Williams.
- 4:27Speaker 3: Even though they were never performing, even when they were performing.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Correct. Although I do think one of them, after the
- 4:32Speaker 1: reveal of the lip syncing, did try to launch his
- 4:35Speaker 1: own singing career.
- 4:36Speaker 2: But then it's like, well, then why didn't you just
- 4:37Speaker 2: do that in the first place?
- 4:38Speaker 6: I know.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Freedom Williams of C & C Music Factory.
- 4:42Speaker 3: Okay.
- 4:43Speaker 2: This is old school.
- 4:44Speaker 3: This is Make America Great Again. This is what Trump
- 4:48Speaker 3: believes music is.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Yes. Make America 1992 again.
- 4:53Speaker 3: When Bill Clinton was president?
- 4:55Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 4:55Speaker 3: It's all very strange.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Yes.
- 4:56Speaker 7: Yes.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Now, there are still two performers in. Vanilla Ice.
- 5:02Speaker 5: Classic.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Because obviously. And Flo Rida.
- 5:04Speaker 3: That's funny.
- 5:05Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah.
- 5:06Speaker 2: I don't know why Flo Rida is still doing it
- 5:07Speaker 2: other than, I don't know, he's a swing state.
- 5:10Speaker 3: You know, are these artists getting paid?
- 5:14Speaker 1: I think so because at one point Trump tweeted, sorry,
- 5:18Speaker 1: he truthed that the artists are getting the yips, which
- 5:25Speaker 1: is a golf term, I guess a sports term for
- 5:27Speaker 1: when you get nervous.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Like Charles Barkley has the yips real bad. Although I
- 5:31Speaker 2: heard he fixed it.
- 5:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:33Speaker 1: But the artists are getting the yips and they were
- 5:36Speaker 1: overpriced anyway.
- 5:38Speaker 2: So they must have been getting paid.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Because I can say as a performer myself, one way
- 5:43Speaker 3: to really make sure that an artist doesn't pull out
- 5:47Speaker 3: is to pay them money. A lot of it. So
- 5:50Speaker 3: my guess is like the public image cost of this
- 5:55Speaker 3: was way higher than what they were getting paid. But
- 5:59Speaker 3: I promise you, watching all my friends go to Saudi
- 6:02Speaker 3: Arabia to perform. They were making enough money that.
- 6:04Speaker 2: They were- There's an amount of money where it doesn't matter.
- 6:06Speaker 3: There's an amount of money where they're going like, I
- 6:08Speaker 3: don't care. You can hate me. I'm going to Saudi Arabia.
- 6:09Speaker 3: So I would guess knowing Trump, he was probably paying
- 6:12Speaker 3: them poorly.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Yes.
- 6:14Speaker 3: And it wasn't a smart move for them. People are going,
- 6:17Speaker 3: what are you doing this for?
- 6:18Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 6:18Speaker 6: Right.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:19Speaker 5: Right.
- 6:19Speaker 2: You don't need this.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Freedom Williams of CNC Music Factory- Speaking of Vanilla Ice,
- 6:24Speaker 1: when I was in college, an episode of The Apprentice,
- 6:28Speaker 1: Donald Trump, Celebrity Apprentice, shot a challenge on campus where
- 6:31Speaker 1: they had to make pizza for all the students.
- 6:34Speaker 2: And Vanilla Ice was one of the guys.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Wow.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:37Speaker 2: No, I'm wrong. Mark McGrath. Cut that.
- 6:39Speaker 3: Alan, cut that. Cut it. I do not know Vanilla
- 6:42Speaker 3: Ice's real name. Me neither.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:45Speaker 3: Interesting.
- 6:46Speaker 2: We may never know. For all I know, it is
- 6:47Speaker 2: Vanilla Ice.
- 6:48Speaker 6: Here goes.
- 6:49Speaker 3: Real name.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Real name.
- 6:51Speaker 3: It's going to be like Cody or.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Oh, Robert Matthew Van Winkle.
- 6:54Speaker 3: That's a great name.
- 6:55Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 6:56Speaker 3: Why did he change it?
- 6:57Speaker 2: Robert Matthew Van Winkle.
- 6:59Speaker 3: Robert Matthew Van Winkle? I feel like that Vanilla Ice
- 7:04Speaker 3: is a downgrade from that.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Maybe somebody answered his riddles three and then he had
- 7:09Speaker 2: to change it.
- 7:10Speaker 3: I mean, it is kind of hard to understand what
- 7:15Speaker 3: a big moment that was.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:17Speaker 3: When Milli Vanilli was caught.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Right.
- 7:20Speaker 3: Or even it was revealed because I don't understand why
- 7:22Speaker 3: they didn't think or, you know, that was just like
- 7:26Speaker 3: for me when I was nine or 10, you know,
- 7:29Speaker 3: I just thought things were what they were.
- 7:31Speaker 6: Right.
- 7:31Speaker 3: And then that's when you kind of learn like maybe
- 7:33Speaker 3: this little box that sits on your living room dresser
- 7:37Speaker 3: doesn't always give you the truth or things are produced.
- 7:40Speaker 3: So this was a big moment.
- 7:42Speaker 2: It was a big moment.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. And now the lip-syncers have too much integrity
- 7:46Speaker 1: to perform in the White House.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Right, right, right, right.
- 7:49Speaker 3: But they said yes at first.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Yes.
- 7:51Speaker 1: But look, they were getting paid. If you were putting
- 7:55Speaker 1: together an America 250 concert, who would you pick?
- 8:00Speaker 3: You know, I am... You know how The Daily Show
- 8:03Speaker 3: has the Facebook?
- 8:04Speaker 5: Yes.
- 8:05Speaker 3: It has everyone's... It says, like, what's your favorite TV
- 8:08Speaker 3: show and your favorite music? My answer to... to my
- 8:12Speaker 3: favorite music is I'm not really a music guy.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Okay.
- 8:16Speaker 3: And people think I'm joking because it's like, who isn't
- 8:19Speaker 3: a music guy? I mean, I love the Beastie Boys.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Pick the Beastie Boys. I think that's a perfect answer.
- 8:24Speaker 3: I love the Beastie Boys and I've met them and
- 8:27Speaker 3: I've gone to their concert. It was the first concert
- 8:28Speaker 3: I ever went to. But like after that, I get real...
- 8:33Speaker 3: Real thin on who I would have.
- 8:36Speaker 1: I think the Beastie Boys is a great answer. You know,
- 8:38Speaker 1: RIP MCA. But I think they would be a perfect
- 8:43Speaker 1: choice because they are so Brooklyn. Like New York City
- 8:46Speaker 1: is so rarely represented when we're talking about like, this
- 8:50Speaker 1: is what it means to be American.
- 8:51Speaker 2: It's the biggest city in the country.
- 8:53Speaker 3: Well, why I love the Beastie Boys is, you know,
- 8:56Speaker 3: and a lot of musicians are like this, the best
- 8:58Speaker 3: in my opinion. But you really watch them evolve as
- 9:02Speaker 3: people through their music.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:04Speaker 3: Like, it's very safe to say you can go, oh,
- 9:06Speaker 3: I love this band because of their last album. You
- 9:08Speaker 3: listen to their new album. You're like, who is this band?
- 9:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:11Speaker 3: They're evolving. They're progressing. Guess what? So are we. So
- 9:15Speaker 3: is this country, hopefully. And so much of what this
- 9:17Speaker 3: administration encapsulates is him trying to fight, in my opinion,
- 9:25Speaker 3: how this country is growing up.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:27Speaker 3: That, to me, is what Trumpism is. It's like, no, stop.
- 9:32Speaker 3: No Spanish. No different people. No different cultures and languages.
- 9:36Speaker 3: He's trying to stop all that. So it's all.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:39Speaker 3: You know, here we go.
- 9:39Speaker 1: You ask Donald Trump, please, but he still says no.
- 9:44Speaker 3: Nice, Nicole.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Thank you so much.
- 9:45Speaker 1: I think I would pick the Chicks. Formerly the Dixie Chicks.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Particularly because they were like the... Not like. They were
- 9:53Speaker 1: the ones who... stood up to Bush and said, he's
- 9:58Speaker 1: not our president.
- 9:59Speaker 2: This doesn't represent us.
- 10:00Speaker 1: And then they were the ones who really suffered a
- 10:02Speaker 1: career setback from that and.
- 10:04Speaker 3: Didn't give up on it. I wasn't fully aware that
- 10:08Speaker 3: they had a career setback because of that.
- 10:10Speaker 2: I mean, they used to play like arenas.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Right.
- 10:13Speaker 2: And then they still had a career.
- 10:14Speaker 1: They're still very talented musicians, but it was definitely going
- 10:17Speaker 1: from you know, playing MSG to playing Terminal 5.
- 10:21Speaker 3: Well, it's funny you say that because the Beastie Boys
- 10:24Speaker 3: rapped a lot about George Bush. And I believe MCA
- 10:28Speaker 3: even had a line like the Kyoto Treaty you chose
- 10:31Speaker 3: to neglect. And I was 12 years old going, what
- 10:34Speaker 3: the fuck is he talking about?
- 10:35Speaker 5: Right.
- 10:36Speaker 3: But it was like a climate thing or something.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Yes.
- 10:38Speaker 3: But I love, love, love when a public figure speaks
- 10:46Speaker 3: their mind about what they think is wrong because it
- 10:49Speaker 3: does cost them commercially.
- 10:51Speaker 5: Yes.
- 10:51Speaker 3: But that's okay because to them, it's more important to
- 10:56Speaker 3: speak up for what they believe is wrong.
- 10:58Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 10:58Speaker 3: I love that.
- 10:59Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 11:00Speaker 1: And that's why Michael Kosta is here to reveal his controversial,
- 11:05Speaker 1: righteous political opinion.
- 11:06Speaker 3: That's right.
- 11:07Speaker 1: But you have to subscribe to the Patreon for that.
- 11:09Speaker 1: The other event planning sort of hiccup That has happened
- 11:13Speaker 1: this weekend is, so they're building this big UFC arena
- 11:16Speaker 1: on the lawn of the White House for a big
- 11:18Speaker 1: fight on.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Donald Trump's birthday.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Is it an octagon?
- 11:22Speaker 2: I have to assume it's an octagon.
- 11:23Speaker 1: But it also, it has sort of, you know that
- 11:26Speaker 1: thing outside of LAX that has like four legs coming
- 11:30Speaker 1: off of it?
- 11:31Speaker 2: It looks a little bit like that.
- 11:32Speaker 3: It'd be funny if Trump didn't know how many sides
- 11:35Speaker 3: were on an octagon. Absolutely.
- 11:37Speaker 2: I have the best octagon. It has 12 sides.
- 11:40Speaker 3: Everyone knows it.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Other octagons have eight. I said, let's get 12.
- 11:44Speaker 1: I think I said this on the podcast with Desi,
- 11:47Speaker 1: but I have, between Colbert and here, I've been talking
- 11:50Speaker 1: about Donald Trump for 10 years now, and my impression
- 11:53Speaker 1: of him has only gotten worse.
- 11:55Speaker 3: I think it's great.
- 11:55Speaker 2: Thank you so much.
- 11:58Speaker 3: You know, there's a part of me that doesn't mind
- 12:05Speaker 3: that this is happening.
- 12:06Speaker 2: I actually agree.
- 12:07Speaker 1: I don't think that there's a reason that there can't
- 12:12Speaker 1: be a big event.
- 12:13Speaker 2: On the White House lawn.
- 12:15Speaker 1: If I think about, oh, if it was President Bernie
- 12:20Speaker 1: Sanders and he was like, let's do a big celebration
- 12:23Speaker 1: of America on the White House lawn with whoever he
- 12:27Speaker 1: would pick.
- 12:28Speaker 3: Bernie Sanders would have a farmer's market, which, by the way,
- 12:32Speaker 3: I would love.
- 12:33Speaker 2: Yeah, that would be great.
- 12:33Speaker 3: That would be great.
- 12:34Speaker 2: I think that would be a great use of the lawn.
- 12:36Speaker 1: And so I don't necessarily mind the idea of a
- 12:38Speaker 1: big spectacle on the White House lawn.
- 12:41Speaker 2: It is stupid.
- 12:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I don't mind, you know— It's beautiful imagery,
- 12:52Speaker 3: the White House. I hope people get excited about the
- 12:54Speaker 3: White House. I hope people watch this and get more
- 12:57Speaker 3: curious about our government. They won't. But the thing that
- 13:00Speaker 3: is most on brand for Trump is that this is
- 13:03Speaker 3: violent and mean spirit. You know, it's fighting. I mean,
- 13:06Speaker 3: it's like, and I would say these fighters have incredible
- 13:11Speaker 3: integrity and sportsmanship because you have to play by the
- 13:15Speaker 3: rules in particular in fighting, which is very funny because
- 13:18Speaker 3: I don't feel Donald Trump is that way. But, you know,
- 13:21Speaker 3: it is just so on brand for him to have
- 13:23Speaker 3: it be where people are kicking the shit out of
- 13:25Speaker 3: each other.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Right.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Right. And it is also for the benefit of the UFC,
- 13:30Speaker 1: which is a private corporation also.
- 13:32Speaker 3: And Dana White has been in his pocket from day one.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 13:36Speaker 1: One of the issues that they're having is that Dana
- 13:39Speaker 1: White thinks there's going to be a massive gnat problem.
- 13:43Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 13:44Speaker 1: He, I guess, was at an event at the Rose
- 13:46Speaker 1: Garden and he was like, this is something we got
- 13:48Speaker 1: to figure out because there's moths everywhere. There's gnats everywhere.
- 13:51Speaker 1: The fighters are going to be out there dealing with
- 13:52Speaker 1: the gnats, which I guess would be a problem, but
- 13:55Speaker 1: it is also like you're, you're beating the shit out
- 13:57Speaker 1: of each other.
- 13:58Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 13:59Speaker 3: But it would suck if someone's like, uh, trying to
- 14:01Speaker 3: get a fly out of their face and then they
- 14:03Speaker 3: get their nose broken. But yeah, I mean, this is a, Hey,
- 14:06Speaker 3: this is why the sport of tennis is so wonderful
- 14:10Speaker 3: because you have to play outside and you have to
- 14:12Speaker 3: deal with those conditions. And while you're dealing with those conditions,
- 14:15Speaker 3: you aren't getting your In.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Many ways, you guys are tougher and braver than UFC fighters.
- 14:20Speaker 3: I've long said that.
- 14:20Speaker 5: Yes.
- 14:21Speaker 3: Even though we play in a rectangle, they play in
- 14:24Speaker 3: an octagon.
- 14:25Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 14:25Speaker 2: That you do what they do with half as many sides.
- 14:29Speaker 3: Yeah, it's kind of funny to think that maybe Different
- 14:33Speaker 3: athletes are just people who do different things on different shapes.
- 14:36Speaker 2: Yeah, they just like different shapes. Baseball's a diamond.
- 14:38Speaker 3: Yeah, diamond. Basketball would be, what's a pool? It's a
- 14:42Speaker 3: square with water in it. Anyways, cut that.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Some of them are kidney bean shaped.
- 14:47Speaker 5: Yes.
- 14:48Speaker 1: I don't think they do a lot of events in those, though.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Joe Rogan also said he doesn't like that it's outside.
- 14:52Speaker 1: And I think it's just, they want to, I mean,
- 14:55Speaker 1: if it rains or something and it gets slippery.
- 14:58Speaker 2: But I mean, I've seen 300.
- 14:59Speaker 1: They were out there rolling around in the mud.
- 15:01Speaker 3: Perfect reference.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 15:04Speaker 3: Fighting, fighting, when you are fighting somebody, conditions would be
- 15:10Speaker 3: very important.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:11Speaker 3: I get that that's a thing. I mean, what's funny
- 15:14Speaker 3: is we all want Joe Rogan to say, I don't
- 15:16Speaker 3: like this. I don't like this administration. But the reason
- 15:19Speaker 3: he doesn't like it is because it's outside. Yeah. So
- 15:21Speaker 3: it's not.
- 15:21Speaker 1: It's.
- 15:22Speaker 2: The fights will be worse.
- 15:23Speaker 3: It's bad for the fight.
- 15:23Speaker 2: Which is understandable.
- 15:24Speaker 1: The other funny thing about the UFC fight at the
- 15:27Speaker 1: White House is that the White House is trying to
- 15:30Speaker 1: get soldiers to attend the event, but they have to
- 15:33Speaker 1: pay their own way.
- 15:34Speaker 2: And also they have to meet height and weight restrictions.
- 15:39Speaker 3: Wait, wait, wait, wait. Height restrictions?
- 15:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:41Speaker 2: So you can't be too short.
- 15:44Speaker 1: I mean, I guess if you are too short, then
- 15:45Speaker 1: you can still buy a ticket, but they'll put you
- 15:47Speaker 1: in the nosebleeds or something. But if you want to
- 15:49Speaker 1: be in the stands near the front, in the you know,
- 15:52Speaker 1: section of honor or whatever, then you have to.
- 15:55Speaker 2: No fatties, first of all, and you can't be short.
- 15:58Speaker 3: You have to look like what they want our soldiers
- 16:02Speaker 3: to look like.
- 16:03Speaker 5: Yes.
- 16:03Speaker 3: Even though probably the most skilled drone pilot operator might
- 16:09Speaker 3: not be a 6'4.
- 16:10Speaker 1: I suspect that the most skilled drone operator probably looks
- 16:15Speaker 1: like he's playing Warcraft in his basement.
- 16:17Speaker 3: Correct.
- 16:18Speaker 2: 20 hours a day.
- 16:19Speaker 3: I agree, and... It's just this whole, look, the whole
- 16:24Speaker 3: world is more focused on optics now, but Trump in particular,
- 16:28Speaker 3: that is the game. Optics is the game. Optics is
- 16:32Speaker 3: the game.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Yeah. And we know he loves a beautiful man because
- 16:35Speaker 1: he never misses an opportunity to be like, look at you,
- 16:37Speaker 1: look at this wet glistening off your skin.
- 16:40Speaker 2: It's like, all right.
- 16:42Speaker 3: Although the optics standing behind him at his rallies are
- 16:45Speaker 3: also lots of non-beautiful men. Let's just put it that way.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Okay, now we're going to do a new segment that
- 16:53Speaker 1: probably won't be, I hope, won't be a recurring segment.
- 16:56Speaker 1: But because I am from Colorado originally, there's been a
- 17:00Speaker 1: few weird news stories coming out of Colorado.
- 17:02Speaker 2: And the first one.
- 17:02Speaker 3: What's the state motto?
- 17:06Speaker 2: Boy, I should know it.
- 17:08Speaker 6: Is it like.
- 17:08Speaker 2: It's the centennial state.
- 17:09Speaker 3: Centennial state.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Yeah, because we were.
- 17:11Speaker 1: Oh, so this will be our 150th anniversary in Colorado.
- 17:15Speaker 3: What can you tell me about... It's flower.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Nothing without providence. I've never, I don't think I've ever
- 17:21Speaker 2: heard that. Uh, it's flower is the Columbine. Oh, wow.
- 17:24Speaker 1: And when I was in Ireland, we saw some Columbine
- 17:26Speaker 1: and I didn't know that they grew there. This is
- 17:29Speaker 1: only interesting to people from Colorado.
- 17:31Speaker 3: Can you tell me, and don't look at the screen.
- 17:33Speaker 3: Can you tell me about the flag at all?
- 17:35Speaker 1: Uh, the, the flag is like very iconic. It's just
- 17:39Speaker 1: got a big C on it. Um, with the, uh,
- 17:43Speaker 1: the center, I think is supposed to represent the sun. Um,
- 17:46Speaker 1: and it's, if you're, From Colorado, 50% of the people
- 17:50Speaker 1: you know have that flag tattooed on them.
- 17:52Speaker 3: I like that. Oh, really?
- 17:53Speaker 2: Well, because it's a good, it's an easy tattoo.
- 17:55Speaker 3: It's beautiful. You know, I am just a huge fan
- 17:59Speaker 3: of the state of Colorado.
- 18:01Speaker 2: It rocks.
- 18:01Speaker 3: It just has so many different things going for it.
- 18:04Speaker 1: It rocks. Although I will say, do you know Caleb Heeran?
- 18:06Speaker 1: There's a comedian named Caleb Heeran who's very funny, who
- 18:09Speaker 1: has a joke that I will paraphrase worse than when
- 18:12Speaker 1: he does it. But he has a joke that's like,
- 18:14Speaker 1: I know a lot of people who've moved to Colorado
- 18:16Speaker 1: and for every single one of them, it has been
- 18:18Speaker 1: a cry for help. I do feel like there is
- 18:22Speaker 1: a large contingent of people in Colorado who are like, well,
- 18:24Speaker 1: I'm 35 and my.
- 18:25Speaker 3: Life isn't working out. Denver's blown up. Yes. I could
- 18:30Speaker 3: kind of tell you a little bit about the state
- 18:32Speaker 3: flag of Michigan, but you really knew what you were
- 18:36Speaker 3: talking about there.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Well, it's because it's iconic. It's iconic and it's also,
- 18:40Speaker 1: you know, a child could draw it.
- 18:42Speaker 3: Yeah, there is a.
- 18:45Speaker 2: Alan, pull up the state flag of Michigan.
- 18:46Speaker 3: It's just got the state seal on it. It's blue
- 18:49Speaker 3: with the state seal, but I don't know... It needs
- 18:53Speaker 3: a rebrand because Colorado looked like fun. Looked like they
- 18:55Speaker 3: want to go to that place.
- 18:57Speaker 2: You got some stags and an eagle.
- 18:59Speaker 3: It's not awful, but it's just kind of formal to me.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Circumspice.
- 19:03Speaker 3: It's formal, whereas Colorado looked approachable.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely. The Denver city flag is also very good.
- 19:10Speaker 1: It has three triangles for mountains.
- 19:12Speaker 3: It's great.
- 19:12Speaker 2: But anyway.
- 19:13Speaker 3: Good talk.
- 19:14Speaker 5: Yes.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Shout out to everybody from Colorado.
- 19:16Speaker 3: Colorado Corner.
- 19:17Speaker 1: A few stories from Colorado Corner. The first one is
- 19:19Speaker 1: that Tina Peters- famous election denier. Our governor, Jared Polis,
- 19:24Speaker 1: has been talking about commuting her sentence for a long time,
- 19:27Speaker 1: and she has officially been released from prison. For those
- 19:30Speaker 1: of you who don't remember, Tina Peters was in the
- 19:32Speaker 1: news around, I think it was the 2020 election, right?
- 19:39Speaker 1: She was behind a lot of the voting conspiracies. She
- 19:42Speaker 1: got arrested because she was promoting all of these voting
- 19:45Speaker 1: conspiracies and um, saying that there was.
- 19:48Speaker 2: Subterfuge and the election was stolen.
- 19:49Speaker 1: And so she's finally been released and she immediately went
- 19:52Speaker 1: on Steve Bannon's podcast and started doing it again.
- 19:55Speaker 2: The second she was released.
- 19:56Speaker 5: I know that, um, I know that the Democrats are
- 20:00Speaker 5: going to cheat and, um, and no one's really addressing
- 20:03Speaker 5: the problem that the basic, that I, that I spent
- 20:07Speaker 5: my time in prison, um, As retribution for and that
- 20:11Speaker 5: was exposing the the election machines that allow the votes
- 20:18Speaker 5: to be flipped.
- 20:19Speaker 6: All right.
- 20:19Speaker 3: Well, just and just remember that Fox lost a 800
- 20:23Speaker 3: million dollar lawsuit.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Yes.
- 20:25Speaker 3: Claiming that the election machines had been compromised.
- 20:29Speaker 6: Yes.
- 20:29Speaker 3: They kept saying they were compromised. And the election machine
- 20:32Speaker 3: company sued and won $ 800 million.
- 20:34Speaker 6: Yes.
- 20:35Speaker 3: Does everyone know that? She looks good for being in prison, though.
- 20:38Speaker 3: I know.
- 20:38Speaker 2: She looks great.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Whatever they're doing in the Colorado State Penitentiary appears to
- 20:44Speaker 1: be working.
- 20:44Speaker 2: So that's one weird story. There is a weirder story,
- 20:47Speaker 2: which is that.
- 20:48Speaker 1: The frontrunner, the Republican frontrunner for governor is a guy
- 20:52Speaker 1: named Victor Marks. And he gave an interview with Denver
- 20:55Speaker 1: newscaster Kyle Clark, who's awesome.
- 20:58Speaker 3: I would assume the governor is... Republican?
- 21:01Speaker 2: He is.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Our current governor is ostensibly a Democrat. But this new
- 21:06Speaker 1: guy who's running as a Republican, Victor Marx, just gave
- 21:08Speaker 1: this interview and he has a couple wild quotes that
- 21:13Speaker 1: I'll have you watch.
- 21:14Speaker 4: You perform exorcisms, commanding demons to come out of people.
- 21:18Speaker 3: Stop.
- 21:19Speaker 4: Can you explain to me how that works?
- 21:22Speaker 6: When you say I perform exorcisms.
- 21:25Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 21:26Speaker 4: You described yourself as a quote unquote reluctant exorcist.
- 21:31Speaker 6: I believe the word of God that I can pray
- 21:34Speaker 6: for people and see people set free from whether it's
- 21:38Speaker 6: demonic oppression. I never call it possession. I believe there's
- 21:43Speaker 6: levels of demonization where people are suffering because of evil.
- 21:47Speaker 4: But could you explain to folks who have never witnessed this,
- 21:50Speaker 4: don't understand how it works? I've heard you describe it
- 21:53Speaker 4: a number of times.
- 21:53Speaker 3: You've got the.
- 21:55Speaker 4: Two angels with the sword. You've got the circle of judgment.
- 21:58Speaker 7: I can't tell if this guy's taking the piss out
- 22:00Speaker 7: of him or... So I think it's real. And I
- 22:02Speaker 7: think what Kyle... I think Victor Marx here is trying
- 22:05Speaker 7: to be like, well, I mean, when I said exorcism,
- 22:09Speaker 7: I meant it metaphorically.
- 22:11Speaker 2: And Kyle Clark's like, no, you don't.
- 22:13Speaker 6: Right.
- 22:14Speaker 3: But then he also says... You have previously.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Said a thing with angels and swords and stuff.
- 22:18Speaker 3: But then he also said, that's a joke. I don't
- 22:20Speaker 3: believe that, but I can pray it out of people,
- 22:23Speaker 3: which is what you said.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Yes.
- 22:25Speaker 3: Oh, you know, religious semantics, words.
- 22:28Speaker 2: Yes. So that wasn't the only part of the interview.
- 22:31Speaker 2: There was also this one.
- 22:33Speaker 4: Your claim that your abusive stepfather forced you to kill
- 22:36Speaker 4: a man when you were seven years old, is that
- 22:37Speaker 4: the only person you've ever killed?
- 22:42Speaker 3: Oh, stop.
- 22:43Speaker 2: This is such a long pause for the question.
- 22:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:46Speaker 3: Did you kill anybody else?
- 22:47Speaker 2: Did you kill somebody?
- 22:48Speaker 1: Alan has not paused the video, by the way.
- 22:50Speaker 6: I would say... As a... As a child, yes.
- 22:56Speaker 2: What does that mean?
- 22:57Speaker 3: As a child, yes.
- 22:58Speaker 2: Did you kill anybody as an adult?
- 23:00Speaker 3: I've only killed... Yeah, I mean, that's wild.
- 23:04Speaker 2: It's truly wild.
- 23:06Speaker 1: And he's probably going to be the Secretary of the
- 23:10Speaker 1: Interior within our lifetime.
- 23:11Speaker 3: Well, people do forget, though, because of Boulder and because
- 23:15Speaker 3: of the ski culture there, of the money and the
- 23:18Speaker 3: private flights and Beaver Creek and Vail. people forget that
- 23:23Speaker 3: Colorado also is like wild country.
- 23:27Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
- 23:27Speaker 3: People forget that rough and tough men who love Jesus are,
- 23:33Speaker 3: are a enormous part of the state.
- 23:35Speaker 2: Definitely.
- 23:35Speaker 3: It's easy to forget that.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Everything past the airport is, is basically like West Kansas.
- 23:41Speaker 3: Correct. Yes.
- 23:43Speaker 2: And then you go, you know, like far to the
- 23:46Speaker 2: Southeast and it's cowboy country.
- 23:48Speaker 3: Yeah, for sure.
- 23:49Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 23:49Speaker 3: Ranch, ranchers. And yeah, and it is easy to forget that, but,
- 23:53Speaker 3: He is a nice reminder.
- 23:56Speaker 2: He really is.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Now, Kasa, I would love to get your take on
- 24:00Speaker 1: this headline, which I saw, which is that Serena Williams
- 24:03Speaker 1: is returning to pro tennis.
- 24:05Speaker 3: Wild. Wild to me. Is she tied for all-time? No,
- 24:15Speaker 3: she's second place for all-time Grand Slam. She's at 23.
- 24:20Speaker 3: And I believe Margaret Court who played like 100 years ago,
- 24:23Speaker 3: has 24. And definitely, definitely, definitely, Serena Williams is considered
- 24:29Speaker 3: the greatest of all time. But she doesn't have that record.
- 24:32Speaker 3: So that could be driving this.
- 24:34Speaker 2: You think maybe she's trying to get one more Grand Slam.
- 24:36Speaker 3: She definitely is trying to get one more Grand Slam,
- 24:39Speaker 3: or if not two. Now, this doesn't fare well for
- 24:45Speaker 3: any gender when you leave the sport and then you
- 24:49Speaker 3: come back. I mean... Do me a favor, Alan, and
- 24:53Speaker 3: Google Bjorn Borg returned to tennis 1981. Here's a great
- 25:01Speaker 3: example of this, 81 downfall. Bjorn Borg, you know who
- 25:05Speaker 3: Bjorn Borg is?
- 25:06Speaker 2: I know that he is a legendary tennis player.
- 25:08Speaker 3: Very beautiful Swedish tennis player. Played with this wooden racket
- 25:11Speaker 3: called the Don A. He left for four years. The
- 25:15Speaker 3: whole sport moved to aluminum tennis rackets. That's a big jump.
- 25:20Speaker 3: Metal rackets. Everybody. Bjorn Borg comes back playing with wood.
- 25:25Speaker 3: He had to pay Don A to make wood rackets.
- 25:28Speaker 3: My whole point is, I hope Serena's been paying attention.
- 25:31Speaker 3: The sport has evolved considerably since she left.
- 25:34Speaker 2: What are some changes that have happened since she left?
- 25:36Speaker 3: Movement. You know, when Serena played, she was the only
- 25:38Speaker 3: one that could serve.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Okay.
- 25:40Speaker 3: A lot of women now can serve, and they can move.
- 25:43Speaker 3: They move unbelievably. So I'd be curious to see. I mean...
- 25:48Speaker 3: Serena Williams is one of our generation's greatest athletes. If
- 25:52Speaker 3: anyone could do it, it could be her, but 44,
- 25:55Speaker 3: you took four years off. Maybe you started to have
- 25:59Speaker 3: a piece of chocolate cake every once in a while.
- 26:01Speaker 3: Do you know what I mean? This is going to,
- 26:02Speaker 3: it's going to be tough, but Hey, I'm rooting for her.
- 26:04Speaker 1: Yeah. It's, I mean, look as, as a woman approaching
- 26:08Speaker 1: middle age, I am always looking for examples of like, see,
- 26:11Speaker 1: she could still do it.
- 26:12Speaker 3: And, and she's a bad motherfucker.
- 26:14Speaker 1: Yes. So she's also like a genetic freak, which is,
- 26:18Speaker 1: If you're the top athlete in any sport, you have
- 26:20Speaker 1: to be.
- 26:20Speaker 3: You have to be. And also her sister has been playing.
- 26:23Speaker 3: Her sister retired and then came back.
- 26:25Speaker 2: How long did Venus take off?
- 26:26Speaker 3: Do you know? I don't know how long, but also
- 26:28Speaker 3: Venus hasn't won a match in like three years, but
- 26:29Speaker 3: she's still playing.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:30Speaker 3: Good job, Venus.
- 26:31Speaker 2: Can I ask you a tennis question?
- 26:33Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 26:35Speaker 1: Well, you're going to be disappointed with what the question is.
- 26:38Speaker 1: But I rarely play tennis. If somebody asks me if
- 26:43Speaker 1: I want to go, I'll be like, sure.
- 26:44Speaker 5: Sure.
- 26:44Speaker 2: But I'm not good at it.
- 26:46Speaker 1: But even though I don't, play tennis, but once every
- 26:50Speaker 1: other year, I do still find myself doing the.
- 26:55Speaker 3: Grunting.
- 26:56Speaker 2: Why does that happen?
- 26:58Speaker 3: Well, let's go back to boxing or fighting. One of
- 27:02Speaker 3: the first things they teach you when you punch or
- 27:05Speaker 3: strike is to blow out or to exhale. It helps
- 27:09Speaker 3: the strike. It's the same with tennis. In fact, probably
- 27:13Speaker 3: if we miked a pitcher... a baseball hitting it. We're
- 27:17Speaker 3: all breathing out. Why? I don't understand why tennis is
- 27:23Speaker 3: always is sexual sounding. Maybe it's because you have time.
- 27:28Speaker 3: I don't, you know, you have a little bit of time.
- 27:29Speaker 3: The ball, you gotta, the ball's got to travel 76
- 27:31Speaker 3: feet to the opponent. Maybe there's time.
- 27:33Speaker 2: You can't help it. It's yeah.
- 27:35Speaker 1: And, and you know, I've tried when I put like,
- 27:38Speaker 1: I don't practice. I barely ever play. And my body
- 27:40Speaker 1: naturally is.
- 27:41Speaker 2: Just like, yeah.
- 27:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:43Speaker 3: Yeah. I, as a former coach, I strongly encourage people
- 27:47Speaker 3: to grunt when they hit.
- 27:48Speaker 5: Great.
- 27:48Speaker 3: What does happen is people start, people add a little
- 27:54Speaker 3: artistic flair to their grunt.
- 27:55Speaker 1: It's like one of the guys in the gym who's
- 27:57Speaker 1: lifting really heavy goes, ah!
- 27:59Speaker 6: Correct.
- 27:59Speaker 2: That's not helping you.
- 28:00Speaker 3: What are you doing?
- 28:01Speaker 6: Yes.
- 28:02Speaker 3: But it is, you know, Venus got in trouble early
- 28:06Speaker 3: in her career. People were mad at her grunt. And
- 28:10Speaker 3: she was like, this is my grunt. Sport has a grunt.
- 28:12Speaker 3: So it's just, it's been a thing.
- 28:14Speaker 1: I wonder why it's, it feels like golf is such
- 28:18Speaker 1: a similar motion, but when I play golf, maybe I'll
- 28:20Speaker 1: start grunting when I play golf.
- 28:22Speaker 3: I bet you if we mic'd you, there, it would
- 28:25Speaker 3: be some form of an exhale.
- 28:27Speaker 5: Yes.
- 28:27Speaker 3: But I don't know if it would be, I mean,
- 28:28Speaker 3: Gustavo Cuertin from Brazil used to grunt like this. I mean,
- 28:33Speaker 3: it was awesome. It was like, it was like, what?
- 28:35Speaker 4: So.
- 28:37Speaker 3: Anyways.
- 28:38Speaker 2: All right. Well, maybe when I play golf from.
- 28:40Speaker 1: Now on, I'll go.
- 28:40Speaker 3: I bet you Tiger Woods grunted when he crashed his
- 28:46Speaker 3: car into that fire hydrant.
- 28:48Speaker 2: This is going to ruin the tour. All right.
- 28:50Speaker 1: Let's take a look at what might be coming up
- 28:52Speaker 1: this week. And let's start with the L.A. mayor and
- 28:55Speaker 1: the California elections.
- 28:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:57Speaker 2: Have you seen the Spencer Pratt phenomenon?
- 29:01Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 29:01Speaker 3: I mean, I was just in L.A. You can't get
- 29:03Speaker 3: rid of these ads. They're everywhere everywhere.
- 29:06Speaker 2: And is it ads for everybody or is it his
- 29:08Speaker 2: ads are overwhelming?
- 29:09Speaker 3: I did see some Spencer Pratt ads. I don't even,
- 29:12Speaker 3: you know, I just, when you hear that it's political music.
- 29:16Speaker 1: Right.
- 29:16Speaker 2: Especially for a place you don't live.
- 29:18Speaker 3: It's like, I don't know who the city sewer commissioner
- 29:22Speaker 3: is going to be. But there was even so many
- 29:24Speaker 3: that at one point there was an ad attacking an opponent.
- 29:30Speaker 3: Then the opponent's ad came on. Great. then the first
- 29:33Speaker 3: person's ad came back on. And it's like, whoa, how
- 29:36Speaker 3: much money did we spend on this? Yeah, no, California's
- 29:38Speaker 3: really gone.
- 29:40Speaker 5: Mad.
- 29:40Speaker 3: And you know what? They have truly collective trauma from
- 29:46Speaker 3: the fires.
- 29:47Speaker 2: Totally. And that is why Spencer Pratt has been able
- 29:49Speaker 2: to do this.
- 29:50Speaker 5: Correct.
- 29:50Speaker 1: Because during the fires, he emerged maybe not as a hero,
- 29:55Speaker 1: but definitely as somebody who who everybody was surprised to
- 29:59Speaker 1: be like, oh, right, this guy exists. And he seems
- 30:02Speaker 1: to be saying like reasonable and sympathetic stuff about the fires.
- 30:06Speaker 1: And then now that he's running for mayor, not so much.
- 30:11Speaker 3: I think we all as a society do not fully
- 30:15Speaker 3: understand trauma.
- 30:17Speaker 5: Yes.
- 30:18Speaker 3: And you can look at COVID with the election of
- 30:21Speaker 3: Joe Biden. I mean- You can look, you can, I mean,
- 30:25Speaker 3: trauma affects us so deeply that we search for people
- 30:29Speaker 3: that can offer some organization of it or just, uh,
- 30:35Speaker 3: appreciation for it. And in some strange way, Spencer Pratt,
- 30:39Speaker 3: the reality star that everybody hated because he was an asshole.
- 30:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:42Speaker 3: Is offering a little bit of that in some capacity.
- 30:45Speaker 1: One thing that has emerged from his campaign is that
- 30:48Speaker 1: he loves crystals.
- 30:49Speaker 3: Oh boy.
- 30:50Speaker 2: Um, Alan, will you?
- 30:52Speaker 3: Walter, we're doing a pod. Can you please stop? Thank you.
- 30:55Speaker 2: He's old.
- 30:56Speaker 3: Talk to me about crystals. Talk to me about crystals.
- 30:57Speaker 8: What is the deal with crystals?
- 30:58Speaker 3: Do you believe they have powers?
- 31:00Speaker 8: I know nothing about crystals, so tell me about it.
- 31:02Speaker 8: Do you believe the ocean has powers? Do you believe
- 31:04Speaker 8: waterfalls have them? Do you believe hummingbirds have power? I
- 31:07Speaker 8: believe anything God put on this earth has energy. And
- 31:10Speaker 8: I respect the earth and the powers of God. And
- 31:13Speaker 8: so that's, I don't worship crystals. I think they're beautiful.
- 31:16Speaker 8: The ones I collected all went up in value before
- 31:18Speaker 8: Mayor Bass let them burn to the ground.
- 31:20Speaker 3: They were investments.
- 31:21Speaker 8: It was a museum-grade collection.
- 31:23Speaker 3: How would you describe, do you think they have special powers?
- 31:25Speaker 3: Or do you just think they're nice to look at,
- 31:27Speaker 3: they're good to collect? Like, how do you explain them?
- 31:28Speaker 8: Okay, this watch right here has quartz in it. And
- 31:31Speaker 8: it has energy.
- 31:32Speaker 6: It's moving.
- 31:33Speaker 3: It's also battery-powered.
- 31:34Speaker 1: Yes. I used to live, when I lived in LA,
- 31:36Speaker 1: I lived in a place called La Crescenta, which is
- 31:38Speaker 1: sort of like behind the mountains, behind Burbank.
- 31:40Speaker 3: La Crescenta Flintridge?
- 31:41Speaker 1: Yes.
- 31:42Speaker 3: I know exactly where that is.
- 31:43Speaker 2: La Cunata Flintridge, which is like next to La Crescenta.
- 31:45Speaker 3: Okay, exactly. Because I would go up to the Angeles
- 31:47Speaker 3: National Forest.
- 31:48Speaker 1: Yes.
- 31:48Speaker 3: Yes, through there. And what.
- 31:51Speaker 1: When I first moved there, somebody described it to me
- 31:54Speaker 1: as the kind of place where somebody in a MAGA
- 31:56Speaker 1: hat would try to sell you a healing crystal.
- 31:59Speaker 4: Right.
- 31:59Speaker 2: And that is exactly the vibe there.
- 32:01Speaker 3: Also, keep in mind the placebo effect is like 30% effective.
- 32:05Speaker 2: Totally.
- 32:05Speaker 3: So if you have a surgery and you put a
- 32:07Speaker 3: crystal next to your bed, you think it's going to
- 32:09Speaker 3: help you? Hey, if you.
- 32:11Speaker 1: feel like crystals help and also you're following your doctor's orders. Right.
- 32:14Speaker 3: I'm down with that. That's great.
- 32:16Speaker 2: I'm thrilled for you.
- 32:17Speaker 3: I just wish they would call it the placebo effect crystal,
- 32:20Speaker 3: not the, this crystal that I'll sell to you. Yes.
- 32:22Speaker 2: Yes, absolutely. So the other big news is that, uh,
- 32:26Speaker 2: the Knicks are in the finals.
- 32:27Speaker 3: Yeah. It was great.
- 32:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:29Speaker 2: It's huge. I'm a, again, I'm from Denver. I'm a
- 32:31Speaker 2: Nuggets fan.
- 32:31Speaker 1: We were eliminated this year, so I don't really have
- 32:34Speaker 1: a horse in this race, but I'm very excited for
- 32:36Speaker 1: all of my friends, uh, especially at the show, including, uh,
- 32:40Speaker 1: your friend and mine, Jon Stewart, uh, who are all
- 32:42Speaker 1: very excited, um, about the Nick Spurs finals. Uh, Trump
- 32:46Speaker 1: has said that he, a plan Trump has said that
- 32:48Speaker 1: he plans to attend, but.
- 32:50Speaker 3: Let me tell you why. Let me tell you why
- 32:52Speaker 3: we don't want that.
- 32:53Speaker 2: Okay. It seems like a logistical nightmare.
- 32:55Speaker 3: It is like he came to the U S open
- 32:57Speaker 3: tennis final and everybody has to get there at 8
- 33:01Speaker 3: AM for a 5 PM final.
- 33:04Speaker 2: To go through security.
- 33:05Speaker 3: Not even just like the metal detectors, like the, If
- 33:09Speaker 3: you're a journalist, the security background, it's a nightmare. But hey,
- 33:14Speaker 3: don't be afraid, Trump, to say something nice about New
- 33:17Speaker 3: York City. For once. I mean, it was your home.
- 33:19Speaker 1: Yes.
- 33:19Speaker 3: Forever and ever and ever. For your entire life. For
- 33:21Speaker 3: your entire life. I mean, I think no one really
- 33:23Speaker 3: knows for certain, but I think your wife and kids
- 33:24Speaker 3: still live here.
- 33:25Speaker 2: I would love for him to name one Nick in
- 33:28Speaker 2: the history of the Knicks.
- 33:31Speaker 1: Also, resale tickets for the finals are already like most
- 33:35Speaker 1: nosebleed of nosebleed seats are over $ 5, 000. I can't imagine
- 33:39Speaker 1: what it would be like if Trump also was there.
- 33:41Speaker 3: It's fun for me when other people in this country
- 33:46Speaker 3: see how expensive shit actually is in New York. Like
- 33:49Speaker 3: when my friends in Michigan are like, why are tickets $ 5, 000
- 33:52Speaker 3: to a Knicks game? I'm like, because you don't even
- 33:55Speaker 3: understand how much a hamburger costs you. You don't understand
- 33:57Speaker 3: how much rent is.
- 33:59Speaker 1: I watched a TikTok yesterday of a guy who was like,
- 34:02Speaker 1: this is part 12 or whatever of my realistic search
- 34:07Speaker 1: for an apartment in New York City that I'm affording
- 34:10Speaker 1: independently without a guarantor or anything. And he said his
- 34:13Speaker 1: budget for a one bedroom was $ 2, 100, maybe $ 2, 300. And
- 34:18Speaker 1: everybody in the comments was like, you're wasting money.
- 34:20Speaker 2: That's crazy.
- 34:21Speaker 1: And I was like, I don't know if he's going
- 34:22Speaker 1: to be able to find a place for $ 2, 100, but okay.
- 34:24Speaker 2: Crazy.
- 34:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 34:26Speaker 2: Everything's so expensive here.
- 34:28Speaker 1: The other big news about the NBA finals is that
- 34:31Speaker 1: a lot of like political AI slop has come out
- 34:34Speaker 1: of it. So Governor Greg Abbott of Texas just posted
- 34:37Speaker 1: this insane photo of himself, who is in a wheelchair,
- 34:43Speaker 1: dunking on Kathy Hochul, who is in a Knicks jersey,
- 34:47Speaker 1: and Donald Trump has court side seats and is laughing.
- 34:51Speaker 2: It's so weird.
- 34:52Speaker 3: It's awful. You know, I.
- 34:56Speaker 2: I also like that they gave him crazy guns. He's
- 34:59Speaker 2: so jacked at this photo.
- 35:01Speaker 3: But also you just used AI machine that's sucking our
- 35:05Speaker 3: fresh water out of lakes to make this thing. Also,
- 35:08Speaker 3: how do I tell my daughters to be nice to
- 35:12Speaker 3: people and to say please and thank you and be
- 35:15Speaker 3: respectful of everybody in your classroom, even if they're different
- 35:17Speaker 3: than you? And then like our elected officials, I know
- 35:21Speaker 3: this is jokey, but it also just pisses me off.
- 35:24Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 35:24Speaker 1: It's... Boy, it's, I guess because I don't have kids,
- 35:28Speaker 1: I've never thought about how, when I was in like
- 35:30Speaker 1: third grade, I got in trouble for like drawing a
- 35:33Speaker 1: mean photo of a classmate. And now.
- 35:35Speaker 3: It's very strange.
- 35:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 35:37Speaker 3: Depending on the age of your kid, they do start
- 35:39Speaker 3: to see this stuff on the news.
- 35:41Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 35:41Speaker 3: And they're like, well, that's mean. Dad, you say don't
- 35:44Speaker 3: do mean stuff. And I'm like, you're right. I do
- 35:46Speaker 3: say that. And I try not to do mean stuff.
- 35:48Speaker 3: But then the person who's in charge of this country.
- 35:49Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 35:50Speaker 3: Or whatever. You know, it's tricky.
- 35:51Speaker 2: When you become the president, you can do it. Yes,
- 35:53Speaker 2: you can do the mean stuff.
- 35:56Speaker 1: But the Knicks are not the only big sporting event
- 36:00Speaker 1: that we're looking forward to because the French Open is,
- 36:03Speaker 1: is it already happening?
- 36:04Speaker 2: Is it just the finals?
- 36:05Speaker 3: It's happening. The thing that's most exciting to me about
- 36:07Speaker 3: the French Open is the top two men's players, Yannick
- 36:13Speaker 3: Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, who have been winning everything. They're not,
- 36:18Speaker 3: they're out. So Yannick Sinner retired with, well, he lost,
- 36:22Speaker 3: but he had heat stroke essentially.
- 36:23Speaker 1: Well, there was a crazy heat wave in France this week.
- 36:28Speaker 3: I mean, he literally couldn't move. It was very sad
- 36:32Speaker 3: to see how you become number one in the world
- 36:35Speaker 3: and you can't handle playing in 92 degree heat.
- 36:37Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 36:37Speaker 3: Carlos Alcaraz is out with a wrist injury. So we're
- 36:40Speaker 3: going to have a new, Novak Djokovic is out. We're
- 36:45Speaker 3: going to have like a new champion. That's fun.
- 36:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:47Speaker 3: That's fun.
- 36:48Speaker 2: Do you have any predictions?
- 36:52Speaker 3: I believe this Brazilian, Fonseca.
- 36:55Speaker 2: Is this the guy?
- 36:57Speaker 3: That's not that guy. That's Gustavo Cuerten.
- 36:59Speaker 1: Okay.
- 36:59Speaker 3: Who was at the matches, by the way.
- 37:00Speaker 2: Okay.
- 37:02Speaker 3: I like him, but it's just, yeah, so I don't
- 37:04Speaker 3: know who's going to win, but it's a lot of fun.
- 37:08Speaker 2: Do they play on clay?
- 37:09Speaker 3: They play on red clay.
- 37:10Speaker 2: Red clay.
- 37:12Speaker 3: Very classy.
- 37:12Speaker 2: Very French.
- 37:13Speaker 3: Very French. And my favorite thing about the French Open
- 37:17Speaker 3: is of all the other tournaments, the umpires speak English
- 37:22Speaker 3: because it's like the language everyone understands. But of course,
- 37:24Speaker 3: the French is like, we're speaking French. So you can
- 37:29Speaker 3: hear them. You hear them say, you know, it's great.
- 37:32Speaker 3: So I love the French Open.
- 37:33Speaker 2: That's awesome.
- 37:34Speaker 1: I'm going to watch some of it, even though I
- 37:36Speaker 1: don't understand what's going on because it will be a
- 37:38Speaker 1: good opportunity for me to practice my high school level French.
- 37:41Speaker 3: Yes.
- 37:41Speaker 2: And maybe pick up some tennis terms.
- 37:43Speaker 3: Also on the women's side, there's a wonderful player named
- 37:46Speaker 3: Marta Kostyuk, who's Ukrainian. And here's why I love her.
- 37:50Speaker 3: And it's relevant to this show. Three years ago, she
- 37:55Speaker 3: said before she was a big name, when I play
- 37:58Speaker 3: anybody from Russia or Belarusia or my umpire is from
- 38:04Speaker 3: those countries, I will not be acknowledging them or shaking
- 38:07Speaker 3: their hand because it is my duty to speak up
- 38:11Speaker 3: against this war. And I, and I don't like that
- 38:13Speaker 3: the other players from other countries aren't doing the same thing.
- 38:16Speaker 3: So she will beat a, she, she played a tournament
- 38:19Speaker 3: where she beat a woman from Russia and there was
- 38:21Speaker 3: an award ceremony and she didn't acknowledge her or shake
- 38:25Speaker 3: her hand. Now everyone on tour kind of knows she's
- 38:28Speaker 3: going to do that, but I just love the, the,
- 38:32Speaker 3: the guts to say like, you're bombing my country and
- 38:35Speaker 3: this isn't okay with me. And I'm going to make
- 38:37Speaker 3: sure everyone knows all the time.
- 38:38Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 38:39Speaker 3: She's still in the tournament and she could win it.
- 38:41Speaker 2: Um, when she has.
- 38:45Speaker 1: Referee umpire, when she has a Russian umpire, I mean,
- 38:50Speaker 1: presumably she has to like heed their calls.
- 38:54Speaker 3: I think she acknowledges the, uh, calling of the sport,
- 38:58Speaker 3: but you're always supposed to shake the hand after a
- 39:00Speaker 3: match and she doesn't do that.
- 39:02Speaker 6: Wow. Yeah.
- 39:02Speaker 2: Well, good for her.
- 39:03Speaker 3: Yeah, good for her.
- 39:04Speaker 2: All right.
- 39:05Speaker 1: It is time for something that we call the Daily
- 39:06Speaker 1: Show and Tell. So, Michael and Walter, what is something
- 39:10Speaker 1: that you have watched, read, listened to, argued about, or
- 39:13Speaker 1: just been on your mind lately?
- 39:14Speaker 3: Well, it's relevant to Walter. Okay. The guest on Tuesday
- 39:18Speaker 3: is the tick guy. Awesome. And he is an expert
- 39:22Speaker 3: and a professor who deals with ticks. And Walter's got
- 39:26Speaker 3: a little tick-borne illness.
- 39:28Speaker 4: Oh.
- 39:28Speaker 2: Walter, do you have Lyme disease?
- 39:29Speaker 4: Yes.
- 39:30Speaker 3: He does not have Lyme disease. I don't know what
- 39:31Speaker 3: the name of it is. It's apparently like the one
- 39:33Speaker 3: you want to get if you're going to get one.
- 39:35Speaker 3: But I find ticks fascinating. They use their mouth to
- 39:40Speaker 3: open up your body and then they insert a straw
- 39:43Speaker 3: into our vein and they suck our blood. Kind of crazy.
- 39:46Speaker 2: Terrifying.
- 39:46Speaker 3: And I think more Americans need to be aware of
- 39:49Speaker 3: ticks and understand ticks and feel empowered to know how
- 39:52Speaker 3: to handle them because there's more and more coming with
- 39:55Speaker 3: climate change. Totally.
- 39:56Speaker 1: There obviously are ticks everywhere in America, but there are
- 39:59Speaker 1: way fewer in Colorado. And so when I moved here,
- 40:02Speaker 1: particularly when I had my big German shepherd who was
- 40:05Speaker 1: so furry, and we would bring her home from walks
- 40:08Speaker 1: and just have to spend like an hour going through
- 40:11Speaker 1: her fur. And fortunately she had like dogs. She had
- 40:14Speaker 1: that thing where when she gets a tick, it drinks
- 40:16Speaker 1: her blood and just dies immediately. So she was always fine.
- 40:20Speaker 1: But one time my husband found a tick on him.
- 40:22Speaker 1: He actually just found another one recently. And it was
- 40:24Speaker 1: immediately like trying to get doxycycline.
- 40:27Speaker 3: People really freak out about them. And what I'm hoping
- 40:30Speaker 3: to achieve with this interview is it's right to be concerned.
- 40:35Speaker 3: But the more you learn about it, I think it's like.
- 40:37Speaker 3: You don't need to end your life over it.
- 40:39Speaker 1: Right.
- 40:39Speaker 3: You can figure it out. But it's a thing we
- 40:41Speaker 3: need to learn to deal with.
- 40:42Speaker 1: I'm excited to see him. And then have you seen,
- 40:45Speaker 1: there's a guy on TikTok. He's part of the Mississippi
- 40:47Speaker 1: State Extension Service.
- 40:48Speaker 2: He's Dr.
- 40:50Speaker 1: Jerome Goddard. He's a bug guy and he has the
- 40:53Speaker 1: thickest Mississippi accent that I've ever heard. I'm going to
- 40:55Speaker 1: send you a video. He does a lot of videos
- 40:57Speaker 1: about ticks.
- 40:57Speaker 3: They're great.
- 40:58Speaker 2: Can't wait for that guest. Check out Dr.
- 40:59Speaker 3: Jerome Goddard also. What's on your mind?
- 41:02Speaker 2: Well, today's the first, right?
- 41:04Speaker 1: So it's the first day of Pride Month. Uh, and
- 41:06Speaker 1: in honor of pride month and me just getting back
- 41:08Speaker 1: from Ireland, I, um, bought a book when I was
- 41:11Speaker 1: there that I thought was very good. So the, the
- 41:13Speaker 1: writer's name is Nevna Malone. Uh, and she wrote a
- 41:17Speaker 1: book called ordinary saints. That is about a, um, gay
- 41:21Speaker 1: Irish woman who's living in London, whose, um, deceased brother, uh,
- 41:26Speaker 1: is going to be made a saint in the Catholic church,
- 41:29Speaker 1: Catholic church. And it's about how she has to kind
- 41:31Speaker 1: of reckon with her own past and her relationship to
- 41:34Speaker 1: the church as somebody who grew up very religious and
- 41:36Speaker 1: is gay now. And it's very lighthearted and funny also.
- 41:39Speaker 1: And I really recommend it. It is kind of hard
- 41:42Speaker 1: to get in America, but I think you can order
- 41:44Speaker 1: it from any bookseller. And I really recommend it.
- 41:46Speaker 3: The perfect antibody to screen addiction.
- 41:50Speaker 1: Yes.
- 41:50Speaker 3: Is reading a book.
- 41:52Speaker 6: Absolutely.
- 41:52Speaker 3: It makes your brain happy. It makes your emotional health happy.
- 41:56Speaker 3: It's just a wonderful thing. Put the phone down and
- 41:59Speaker 3: read a book.
- 41:59Speaker 8: Truly.
- 42:00Speaker 1: And again, This Ireland trip that I just went on
- 42:03Speaker 1: was great because whenever I go to a new place,
- 42:05Speaker 1: I try to just pick a few books from authors
- 42:08Speaker 1: in that.
- 42:09Speaker 2: Region to read.
- 42:10Speaker 1: And Ireland has such a huge literary canon.
- 42:14Speaker 2: They're just churning out authors.
- 42:16Speaker 1: So check out any of those and check out Ordinary
- 42:18Speaker 1: Saints by Niamh Malone. Don't try to Spell her name,
- 42:23Speaker 1: just Google Ordinary Saints. And I think that's everything. That
- 42:26Speaker 1: is all the time that we have for the pre-cap.
- 42:28Speaker 1: I have been Nicole Conlon. You can check out your host,
