- 0:00Welcome to The Clean Shift, your update on global
- 0:02energy and sustainability. At the recent World
- 0:06Government Summit 2026 in Dubai, a key meeting
- 0:09highlighted a powerful blueprint for an ambitious
- 0:15energy transition. That's right. His Excellency
- 0:18Saeed Mohammed Al -Tayyar, the MD and CEO of
- 0:22the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, or
- 0:25DIWA, welcomed Her Excellency Marie May Jeremy.
- 0:29Okay. Who is the Minister of Environment, Climate,
- 0:32Energy, and Natural Resources of the Republic
- 0:35of Seychelles. A very significant meeting, men.
- 0:38And the centerpiece of their discussion was a
- 0:40project of just truly monumental scale, the Mohammed
- 0:45bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. The scale is
- 0:49almost hard to fully grasp. The park, you know,
- 0:52it already accounts for over 21 % of Dubai's
- 0:55energy mix. Right. But the really big news from
- 0:58this meeting is that Diwa is dramatically accelerating
- 1:00its goals. Accelerating them? How so? Well, the
- 1:042030 capacity target has been raised from an
- 1:07already huge 5 ,000 megawatts to now... Wow.
- 1:128 ,000 megawatts. This will push clean energy
- 1:15share to over 36 percent, far exceeding the original
- 1:19targets. That's a massive leap. And His Excellency
- 1:23Altair connected this directly to the Emirates'
- 1:25long -term vision, didn't he? He did. He stated,
- 1:28and I quote, these efforts align with the Dubai
- 1:31Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net
- 1:35Zero Carbon Emission Strategy 2050. Incredible.
- 1:39That aimed to provide 100 percent of the Emirates
- 1:42energy production capacity from clean sources
- 1:44by 2050. An incredible commitment. And it's not
- 1:48just about the sheer size. It's also about the
- 1:51pioneering technology. I mean, we're talking
- 1:54four Guinness World Records. Yeah. So how do
- 1:57they actually build all of this so effectively?
- 2:00So that comes down to a smart partnership model.
- 2:02His Excellency El -Tayer explained their approach.
- 2:05He said Dubai Electricity Water Authority is
- 2:08implementing the solar parks projects in partnership
- 2:11with the private sector. Right, right. With independent
- 2:14power producer model. The IPP model. So that
- 2:18public -private partnership is clearly a game
- 2:21changer. Absolutely. Because the innovation it's
- 2:24driving is delivering some incredible results,
- 2:26especially on the efficiency front. Absolutely.
- 2:29It's one of the most impressive statistics. As
- 2:32His Excellency Altea pointed out, modern technologies
- 2:35have contributed to increasing the efficiency
- 2:37of electricity generation using photovoltaic
- 2:40solar panels from 11 % a decade ago to more than
- 2:4524 % today. More than doubling the efficiency
- 2:49in just 10 years. That is stunning. It's no wonder
- 2:52Minister Jeremy from the Seychelles praised Jiwa's
- 2:55expertise and was keen to visit the site. Right.
- 2:58This isn't just a project for Dubai. It's a working
- 3:01model for the world. It truly is. I mean, this
- 3:04meeting wasn't just a formal courtesy. It was
- 3:07a showcase of a new energy future being built
- 3:09right now. Yeah. Proving what's possible when
- 3:13a clear vision meets a welcoming investment environment
- 3:16and the rapid adoption of new tech. Now, here's
- 3:19a question we'd like you to think about. As these
- 3:22massive centralized clean energy projects become
- 3:25the norm, what role will smaller, community -level
- 3:28solar and wind initiatives play in our future
- 3:31energy grid?
