- 1:11Speaker 3: Here is a girl soccer's coach seven years in here
- 1:14Speaker 3: at Northwest Franko.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Coach Britt, How are you, brother, I'm good, I'm good.
- 1:16Speaker 2: How are y'all doing? Man? We're good?
- 1:18Speaker 3: You said, please excuse the weight we smell. I totally
- 1:21Speaker 3: get it. It is so hot out here, and I
- 1:23Speaker 3: think you could get out of your car if you
- 1:24Speaker 3: haven't done nothing all day and just walk up here.
- 1:26Speaker 2: And you'd be sweating. It is a scorcher.
- 1:28Speaker 4: Oh, it's it's pretty bad. I'm grateful at least Girl's
- 1:32Speaker 4: soccer ghost first block, so we beat the heat a
- 1:33Speaker 4: little bit, but I can't escape at the rest of
- 1:36Speaker 4: the day. I mean, you're you're in it. I just
- 1:38Speaker 4: got off the bus here short shortly after school ended,
- 1:40Speaker 4: and uh, I'm here now. But we're here and we're
- 1:43Speaker 4: feeling good.
- 1:44Speaker 3: So obviously we've been talking to several soccer coaches. I
- 1:46Speaker 3: have to ask this, and I know it's always a yest.
- 1:48Speaker 3: Do you enjoy the World Cup this year?
- 1:50Speaker 2: I did.
- 1:50Speaker 4: I did, obviously not the ending that USA had, but
- 1:53Speaker 4: as a as a soccer fan, I mean, it was
- 1:56Speaker 4: a big time. I mean because it kind of put
- 1:58Speaker 4: a put a rest to some stigma of we might
- 2:00Speaker 4: not be that passionate about soccer. And as you can saw,
- 2:03Speaker 4: it was an influx of it from the from the
- 2:05Speaker 4: world but also from US. I feel like we did
- 2:07Speaker 4: our fair share. So it was really fun to watch.
- 2:10Speaker 4: The events were really good. It didn't get to go
- 2:11Speaker 4: catch one, but I thoroughly enjoyed watching just about every
- 2:15Speaker 4: match I can get my eyes on.
- 2:16Speaker 3: Yeah, and you would have to think, and I don't
- 2:17Speaker 3: I don't pretend to know how far out those events
- 2:19Speaker 3: are bid on in the future. I'm sure it's you know,
- 2:21Speaker 3: the next two or three, but that the US would
- 2:23Speaker 3: be back in the running for that again.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Oh, you would have to think. And I believe they
- 2:27Speaker 2: do it to in advance.
- 2:28Speaker 4: And so we've already got our next two set up
- 2:30Speaker 4: and so they're gonna be voting on the third here soon.
- 2:33Speaker 4: But yeah, you would, you would have to think. And
- 2:35Speaker 4: just from I consider myself a connoisseur as best as
- 2:38Speaker 4: I can. But they've definitely from what I've read, they've
- 2:41Speaker 4: had talks of it, they've loved it. FIFA loved it,
- 2:44Speaker 4: and I mean, we can put the best show on.
- 2:46Speaker 3: In the world, man, right, no doubt about it.
- 2:48Speaker 2: We're visiting with Dalen Brett.
- 2:49Speaker 3: He is a girl's circus coach here at Northwest Frank
- 2:51Speaker 3: and it is Cougar's day on your radio, all right,
- 2:54Speaker 3: So let's talk soccer here locally. Take us through what
- 2:57Speaker 3: the last few years have been like for you guys,
- 2:59Speaker 3: and then of course about the passion you know obviously
- 3:02Speaker 3: talking to KK Alder, which we know baseball is real big.
- 3:04Speaker 2: We're in a football season. Soccer is real big here too.
- 3:06Speaker 4: Yeah, oh man, So I mean I grew up in it, definitely.
- 3:10Speaker 4: I'm from the area. I'm from Breaking County down the
- 3:12Speaker 4: road in Florence. But since i've been here, this is
- 3:14Speaker 4: my only teacher job I had, and all the teachers
- 3:16Speaker 4: up there tell me, do not take it for granted,
- 3:18Speaker 4: the ones that have had pit stops along the way.
- 3:20Speaker 4: But I've absolutely loved it here. You've always known about
- 3:23Speaker 4: Northwest ranking soccer, you know, since I was growing up
- 3:25Speaker 4: early two thousands, all that good stuff. But being here
- 3:28Speaker 4: and being in it is just kind of a different
- 3:30Speaker 4: level as far as the players, the parents, the support
- 3:34Speaker 4: that you get from the community, the coaching that you've
- 3:36Speaker 4: kind of got to bring every day. It's a lot,
- 3:40Speaker 4: but it's in a good way, if you know what
- 3:42Speaker 4: I mean. Where Like like you said, in recent years,
- 3:45Speaker 4: we've we've been able to find a lot of success
- 3:48Speaker 4: boys and girls. Boys made their fair sheriff state championships
- 3:51Speaker 4: coming up just shorten a few of them, but still
- 3:53Speaker 4: not for effort, not for not belonging there. I mean,
- 3:56Speaker 4: they busted their butt. Just that's the way the coin
- 3:58Speaker 4: flip that day and the girls we have to able
- 4:01Speaker 4: to pull off a few we just lost. We went
- 4:04Speaker 4: to three in a row and lost our third one
- 4:05Speaker 4: this past year, So it was it was a tough one.
- 4:07Speaker 4: It was a devastating one. But uh, there's there's a
- 4:10Speaker 4: lot of schools in the state that would that would
- 4:12Speaker 4: love to be in the game, and so just the
- 4:14Speaker 4: constant success, I mean, it's a it's a high demand,
- 4:18Speaker 4: but you get to reap the benefits of it at
- 4:20Speaker 4: the end of the year and it's just awesome to
- 4:21Speaker 4: be a part of.
- 4:22Speaker 3: How many girls Angula do you guys have to come
- 4:24Speaker 3: out and try out for the team.
- 4:26Speaker 4: So we're we're strange dynamic actually because we kind of
- 4:29Speaker 4: have a filter of a middle school team and so
- 4:31Speaker 4: our high school team, Uh, we don't necessarily get a
- 4:35Speaker 4: ton of high school players that come out. We do,
- 4:37Speaker 4: we do get some, but our big trout is actually
- 4:39Speaker 4: to kind of get onto our middle school team, and
- 4:41Speaker 4: so that's where we kind of have a filtering step
- 4:44Speaker 4: before we get into that high school team, and we
- 4:46Speaker 4: try our best to take it just as serious at
- 4:47Speaker 4: those younger ages to kind of set the precedent of, hey,
- 4:50Speaker 4: this is a prestigious program and we want you to
- 4:52Speaker 4: be a part of it. But you've got to want
- 4:53Speaker 4: to be a part of it. And so we roughly
- 4:56Speaker 4: have at a middle school try out, which you deem
- 4:59Speaker 4: high school. I'd say around fifty sixty sometimes some years
- 5:03Speaker 4: about seventy girls show up and we end up rostering
- 5:07Speaker 4: roughly fifty total seventh through twelfth roughly.
- 5:12Speaker 3: Yeah, and that's excuse me, that's still that's a lot
- 5:14Speaker 3: of kids to have to.
- 5:15Speaker 4: Manage, right, Yeah, man, it's a lot of kids. It's
- 5:18Speaker 4: definitely it takes a group effort. Like I said, our
- 5:21Speaker 4: parents support is fantastic when it comes to all of
- 5:23Speaker 4: our community service, when it comes to our team bonding events,
- 5:26Speaker 4: our parents step in and take a huge weight of
- 5:28Speaker 4: that off the coaches shoulders. They're fantastic throughout the entire year,
- 5:31Speaker 4: not just the season. A great a great staff we
- 5:34Speaker 4: have This year, we've recently lost a middle school coach,
- 5:37Speaker 4: but we added a new one on named Charlie Cooper,
- 5:39Speaker 4: and she's done a great job so far. And then
- 5:41Speaker 4: my second year returning assistant, Abby Taylor, who's just like
- 5:43Speaker 4: taking the bull by the horns, and she has been
- 5:45Speaker 4: awesome at manager, helping me manage the players and kind
- 5:48Speaker 4: of doing her due diligence with everything that sometimes I
- 5:51Speaker 4: forget about, which she's learned. I have a terrible memory.
- 5:54Speaker 4: But they've been fantastic. So luckily it's not just me
- 5:57Speaker 4: managing them. It's a group effort with it.
- 6:00Speaker 2: But it does.
- 6:00Speaker 4: I mean, it takes a village for sure. They say
- 6:02Speaker 4: it takes a village for just one kid. I mean,
- 6:04Speaker 4: so actually got fifty of them.
- 6:06Speaker 3: We're having a conversation with coach Dylon Britt Dalen britxcuse me.
- 6:09Speaker 3: He is the girl soccers coach here at Northwest Rank
- 6:12Speaker 3: and Tuesday edition of your radio show. You said you
- 6:14Speaker 3: grew up and done in Florence. I did as well.
- 6:16Speaker 3: We've talked about that off the air, so we're hend Kendrick.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Speirits, Oh yeah, absolutely, I will.
- 6:20Speaker 3: Ask you this on that response on that knowing that
- 6:23Speaker 3: did you ever think you would see rankin county? And
- 6:25Speaker 3: I've been I've been talking about this for weeks. I
- 6:27Speaker 3: know Rod probably gets started to be saying, I am
- 6:29Speaker 3: just amazed every school in Ranking County has terf for
- 6:32Speaker 3: you kidding me?
- 6:33Speaker 4: I can't believe it, man, I'll be honest, and it's
- 6:36Speaker 4: all good. I mean, I'm sure there will always be
- 6:38Speaker 4: a negative nancy out there that's kind of bring up well,
- 6:40Speaker 4: well this, well that, But I mean it's just awesome.
- 6:43Speaker 4: It's awesome for the smaller schools to be able to
- 6:45Speaker 4: cause it's it's a struggle for them at times, you know,
- 6:47Speaker 4: manage that grass field to get those games in. You're
- 6:50Speaker 4: talking football game, soccer games, like you're talking a lot
- 6:52Speaker 4: of sports, big time sports, and so it's it's awesome
- 6:56Speaker 4: for them and especially you know, my grassroots over at Florence,
- 6:59Speaker 4: like that's that's big time for them because they're they're
- 7:01Speaker 4: also a very well known soccer school. Yeah, and so
- 7:03Speaker 4: a lot of these schools very deserving. But then also
- 7:06Speaker 4: the it just gives these schools an opportunity that more
- 7:09Speaker 4: opportunities to come in the future that they're going to
- 7:11Speaker 4: have that they would not have had without a turf field.
- 7:14Speaker 3: So it's good and I'm sure, you know, like some
- 7:16Speaker 3: coaches have said, i mean, obviously soccer, you guys are
- 7:18Speaker 3: gonna play in the elements, but if you had a heavy,
- 7:21Speaker 3: heavy rain come through on a soccer day, I mean
- 7:23Speaker 3: in the morning. By afternoon, this thing's gonna be drought here.
- 7:26Speaker 3: Did you're gonna be playing?
- 7:27Speaker 4: Oh yeah, man, it's the funniest story too. We had
- 7:30Speaker 4: a semi final a couple of years back that we
- 7:32Speaker 4: played Brandon, you know, crosstown rival. It was.
- 7:34Speaker 2: It was it was a big deal. It was a
- 7:35Speaker 2: good game. We had a good team.
- 7:37Speaker 4: It was a twenty five year which we went on
- 7:38Speaker 4: to win it that year. But in the semi final,
- 7:40Speaker 4: it was torrential down poor, heaviest rain, cats and dogs,
- 7:46Speaker 4: whatever saying that you want to say.
- 7:48Speaker 2: It was. It was bad. It was rough. We were
- 7:50Speaker 2: out here, we were in it.
- 7:52Speaker 4: No lightning delayed us, and so we just kept on
- 7:54Speaker 4: keeping on and we ended up pulling that one out
- 7:56Speaker 4: one oh with about one second left in the game.
- 7:59Speaker 4: But it was tough.
- 8:00Speaker 2: But to your point, you know we can get it in. No,
- 8:03Speaker 2: there's no doubt.
- 8:04Speaker 3: Talk about We've got a couple of minutes here with
- 8:06Speaker 3: coach Dale and britt girls soccer's coach here at Northwest.
- 8:08Speaker 3: Frank and Chris Langer will join us in the next
- 8:10Speaker 3: segment talking college in the NFL, the growth of soccer
- 8:14Speaker 3: just as you've seen it in this state and how
- 8:17Speaker 3: big it's got.
- 8:18Speaker 4: Oh man, it's crazy because I get to see from
- 8:20Speaker 4: both sides. So I'm also a girls director over at
- 8:22Speaker 4: Ranking Soccer Club and based out of Brandon, and I
- 8:25Speaker 4: coach our two oldest girls age groups over at Rush United,
- 8:28Speaker 4: which I mean numbers based. We are the biggest club
- 8:31Speaker 4: in the state of Mississippi right now. I'm pretty pretty
- 8:33Speaker 4: successful with them. We've got a great group from all
- 8:35Speaker 4: over the area, all over the state. Honestly, we get
- 8:37Speaker 4: girls traveling from Biloxi to Ocean Springs down from Tupelow,
- 8:41Speaker 4: all over the area. So to that point, it's grown
- 8:44Speaker 4: so much, just from from when I was playing. There's
- 8:48Speaker 4: always a good and bad with everything, but so far
- 8:49Speaker 4: it's been really really good. It's it's becoming a little
- 8:52Speaker 4: bit more prominent, and it's been fun to watch since
- 8:55Speaker 4: since I was young, you know, because you the with
- 8:58Speaker 4: the with soccer growing as a whole, you get better coaches,
- 9:02Speaker 4: you get more involvement from parents, you get better funding
- 9:04Speaker 4: from people that just want to be a part of it.
- 9:06Speaker 4: So it's good from all fastheads.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Well, we appreciate your time today and look best of
- 9:11Speaker 3: luck this year. Hey yeah, thank you, so much. Thank you,
- 9:13Speaker 3: Dalen Brett. He is a girl soccers coach here at
- 9:16Speaker 3: Northwest Franklin. So we got just a couple of minutes
- 9:19Speaker 3: left here. We'll get Chris Landry on here momentarily Texas
- 9:22Speaker 3: six or one eight eight, five, three, seven seven six Again,
- 9:26Speaker 3: let me get you caught up on a couple notes
- 9:28Speaker 3: before we move into the break here. Let's see here
- 9:33Speaker 3: I do. We will get into this deal on Brandon.
- 9:36Speaker 3: What's going on over there with this probation. I've had
- 9:38Speaker 3: several people ask me about this. We'll talk a little
- 9:40Speaker 3: bit about that, and iur number three also AP Voters'
- 9:44Speaker 3: most underrated teams in college football real quickly. This is
- 9:49Speaker 3: the AP voters who say the most underrated teams BYU
- 9:52Speaker 3: number one in college football this year. The Cougar's obviously
- 9:56Speaker 3: are getting a lot of love in the Big Twelve.
- 9:57Speaker 3: The coaches of the Big Twelve picked the picked the
- 10:00Speaker 3: BAYU Cougaris to win the conference. Wouldn't be surprised by
- 10:03Speaker 3: that Texas Tech that was going to be the favorite Indiana.
- 10:06Speaker 3: They still feel like Indiana's undervalued. Northwestern Iowa and Boise State,
- 10:11Speaker 3: followed by Ole Miss TCU, TWU Lane Cincinnati, and how
- 10:14Speaker 3: about this hail state Mississippi State as an undervalued team.
- 10:18Speaker 3: Talking to David Murray last hour and some others here
- 10:22Speaker 3: Missouri at seventeen, also Memphis at nineteen and Vanderbilt at
- 10:27Speaker 3: twenty three.
- 10:27Speaker 2: We're brought to you by Maristar Casino.
- 10:29Speaker 3: Get out and play, Get out to the Gurka cigar lounge,
- 10:31Speaker 3: and of course enjoy a smoke at the cigar lounge
- 10:33Speaker 3: at a Maristar, and of course bring it to the
- 10:36Speaker 3: house and get the.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Bet builder on your phone. We gotta take a time out.
- 10:39Speaker 2: We come back. Chris Landry will join us for thirty minutes.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Back in a minute
