- 0:00Welcome back to Wow to Old School, where I talk with Wow
- 0:02streamers that tried Old School Runescape to try and get some
- 0:05perspective on what they thought of Old School Runescape when
- 0:07they tried that and what they're thinking now of World of
- 0:10Warcraft, you know, and everything in between.
- 0:12Today's guest was the very first player to hit level 60 in the
- 0:152019 original Classic Wow servers.
- 0:18Probably the most efficient player I've ever seen, playing
- 0:21way more efficiently than I've ever played in the 20 years that
- 0:24I've played Runescape. He's embraced Old School harder
- 0:27than most. In around 3 months he's clocked
- 0:30in over 1000 hours, sitting around like 1900 total.
- 0:33He's done the raids, he's done CG grinds, he's gotten a Dragon
- 0:37Warhammer. This guy is a beast.
- 0:39We had a ton of stuff to talk about, so enjoy this
- 0:41conversation with Joker. Joker, how long have you been
- 0:56playing World of Warcraft? I started playing in 2012, so I
- 1:01was like 15 years old. So that's what, like 13 years?
- 1:05Gotcha. So you didn't start like the
- 1:06very beginning like you were, it was a, it was a while before you
- 1:09started, OK. The thing is I was like really
- 1:12young and I would go to like my grandparents place and my uncle
- 1:16was still living there. He was like, maybe, like, like,
- 1:2010 years younger than I am now, and he would be playing vanilla
- 1:22Wow. So I would watch him play, like
- 1:24the original game. I was always fascinated by it,
- 1:27but my mom wouldn't give me the game.
- 1:29So saying no, you got to get addicted to this game, And also
- 1:32you have to pay every month, which back then, that was crazy.
- 1:36Yeah. Like, there's just no way you
- 1:37could convince my parents to pay with their credit card online.
- 1:41They would think they would get scammed.
- 1:42It was like a taboo. Like, he's just paying every
- 1:45month as well. It was like a mess.
- 1:48No, I get that. My my parents wouldn't let me
- 1:51play either. They they did.
- 1:52I did talk them into a a $5 Runescape membership, though,
- 1:56which is why I got that game under my belt instead.
- 1:59But I did want Wow first. That was going to be my first
- 2:02choice, but I didn't get yeah, yeah, that's crazy.
- 2:05Worked out, though. I'd say it's pretty good.
- 2:08I mean, hey, that's that's nice, though.
- 2:09Yeah, they got one game. Yeah, I was stuck playing on
- 2:13Miniclip, dude. That's all I could do.
- 2:15Yeah, that's where I found Runescape actually is Miniclip.
- 2:17That's where it originally was. Yeah.
- 2:20It's like where everyone back then found it.
- 2:22It was like it was a browser game back then.
- 2:25Just logged in through Miniclip. Yeah.
- 2:26But with Wow in mind, just you know, you've basically like the
- 2:32only thing in your Twitch bio is that you know, you were first to
- 2:3660 in Wow Classic. I'm I'm assuming that was a 2019
- 2:39like original release of classic.
- 2:41Yes. Not.
- 2:42Not the vernal one, yeah. Gotcha.
- 2:44So you're like a real just a, a grinder like you are, your play
- 2:49style is generally you're going fast, you're going hard.
- 2:53Would you say that that that pretty much aligns with how you
- 2:56approach not just Wow, but games in general?
- 2:59Yeah, I mean, not every single game, but if there's a game
- 3:01where that's like how it works, you can just put in more hours
- 3:06and try to be more efficient and get more experience.
- 3:08Like I do choose to play like that.
- 3:10I just kind of kind of help myself.
- 3:11Yeah, yeah, I noticed I. Find it harder to be casual.
- 3:15Yeah, it's even though like I'm not trying to like be the best
- 3:18or anything like that. I'm not, I'm not trying to be
- 3:20like the most skilled player. I just can't help but like try
- 3:24to find better methods. But at the same time, you're not
- 3:27going to catch me like 3 tick sand mining and runescaping, you
- 3:30know, like I'm not doing that right.
- 3:33But it's like, hey, you know, if there's some, if there's a way
- 3:35to get a bit more XP for like wait for like barely any more
- 3:38efforts, I'll do it right. Like all the easy stuff.
- 3:42Yeah, I noticed you had like, some time management stuff going
- 3:44down. Like when I tuned in today, you
- 3:45were talking like, OK, once I get to this level, I can cut
- 3:48out, you know, this route of farming so I can spend more time
- 3:51doing this. And you were just, like,
- 3:53planning it all out. I do.
- 3:53Like to plan. I do like to plan stuff.
- 3:56Yeah. That that feels good.
- 3:57Yeah, efficiency is great. Yeah, you can be so efficient,
- 4:00but also like you can choose how much effort to put in to get
- 4:03stuff done. Right for your wow side of
- 4:06things like when did your whole like speed run going hard era
- 4:12start? It wasn't 2019.
- 4:14Just in 2019, that was the first time you really were like, let's
- 4:17get down and dirty. Try and be world first here.
- 4:20It just kind of happened accidentally where I played on a
- 4:22couple of servers or you know, private servers.
- 4:25What those are what Wow like unofficial Blizzard servers and
- 4:29there was a couple of freshes. We call them a freshes when they
- 4:31launch a server, but so it's a level 1.
- 4:33It's hype, right? That's the best feeling in Wow.
- 4:36And I was playing on one of these servers while still going
- 4:38to school and it was like not even top 100 on the server.
- 4:42I'm just playing right. I'm going to school.
- 4:43I'm not playing all the time. And the server ended up being
- 4:47not super popular. People quitted towards the end
- 4:50and I ended up getting first sixty there just because the
- 4:52people I had quit. Yeah and it felt really good.
- 4:56I was like, oh, what if I actually practiced and try to
- 4:59get better at this? So then the next server I did
- 5:02practice and I did get 1st 60 again.
- 5:04And then I was like, dude, I feel pretty confident now.
- 5:07What if I practice again for the official 2019?
- 5:10And yeah, that's what I did. And I kind of knew that if I,
- 5:13you know, got first, I would have like a burst of viewership.
- 5:17And you know, here I am still streaming six years later that
- 5:20it actually kind of planned out. It worked out according to plan,
- 5:24I guess you could say. Yeah, that's awesome.
- 5:26That's good stuff. It's it's really funny.
- 5:27I I, I talked to Ampy about the same thing and he had the same
- 5:31sort of journey of like experiencing the the full
- 5:35throttle on private servers ahead of time and then giving
- 5:38him the idea of like, maybe I'll do this on the actual servers
- 5:41then if I can practice it. So it's, it's interesting
- 5:44hearing that, you know, the background kind of follows the
- 5:46same, yeah. Funny story, me and Ampy were
- 5:49exactly the same level at some point in 2019.
- 5:52We're both Level 42. Oh.
- 5:54Really. And we made, yeah, we made a
- 5:56pact to both go to sleep at the same time so we don't play too
- 6:00much. So we both went to sleep at that
- 6:02level. Seriously.
- 6:03Yeah. That's awesome.
- 6:05Yeah, it's good stuff. We so we go way back like 6
- 6:08years at least. Wow yeah you guys are gamers at
- 6:12heart. It's crazy to see the the
- 6:14translation from that kind of play style and and approach to
- 6:18Wow and seeing just how hard you guys are going on on old school.
- 6:23We'll get into that later, but I just think it's awesome seeing
- 6:26seeing that like that absolute gamer mentality show itself with
- 6:32how you guys have been playing. It's really cool right now over
- 6:35in the Wow landscape. It's kind of like in this weird
- 6:40sort of situation of having multiple World of Warcrafts, you
- 6:46know, they got anniversary servers, they got hardcore,
- 6:48they've got Mop classic, Legion remix, retail it.
- 6:52It's a ton of different games. The community kind of feels
- 6:55split. So wouldn't now that you've been
- 6:59over in the old school world a little bit, kind of stepped away
- 7:03and you glance over there like you just kind of look and see
- 7:05where the Wow community's at, the Wow, you know, updates,
- 7:09patches. What are your general thoughts
- 7:11on it right now as someone who's been a part of it for so long?
- 7:14Yeah, it's, it's very different having a outsider perspective
- 7:18now, because before I'm like playing the game, as you said,
- 7:22like I'm that's what I'm doing. So you kind of like cope a bit
- 7:25more and you try to like be OK with it.
- 7:28But now that I've kind of taken a step back and I'm playing a
- 7:31different game, I'm like, yeah, it's kind of like a mess, right?
- 7:34I mean I knew it was a mess, but now you you see it more and it
- 7:38feels like we're while they're trying to please every single
- 7:41person with all these different versions of the game, but it
- 7:44split up the community so much like and the thing about Wow is
- 7:48it's a game oriented around the community, right?
- 7:51I feel like me playing runescape.
- 7:52Runescape is a community game, but you notice it depended on
- 7:55other players, right? You can play solo so long Wow.
- 7:59You need a you need a Guild, you need a pug, you know, discord
- 8:02right like it, it just works that way.
- 8:04So if you have all these different versions of the game
- 8:07and like the Guild is getting split apart because they want to
- 8:09try the new version, and then the other part of the Guild is
- 8:12staying on the existing one, what ends up happening is the
- 8:15Guild just scrambles. And then when one person quits
- 8:18in the Guild and maybe someone else does, it just kind of falls
- 8:21on like a House of Cards. And that's what's been
- 8:22happening. Well, Wow for the last like few
- 8:24years. They're just launching one
- 8:26version after the other. It's high, people play it and
- 8:29then it just ends up dying. Yeah, I, I always forget about
- 8:33that Guild part too, like the, the whole Guild system is so
- 8:36important, especially, you know, in the end game loop.
- 8:39You know, that's I, I, I do forget about that as an old
- 8:43school player like I, I'm so used to just so many solo
- 8:46challenges being available and you guys.
- 8:48Have it so much easier. You have no idea.
- 8:51Like I've been, I've been, I've been talking about this on
- 8:52stream. Like dude, you can just log in
- 8:54and play the game. You don't have to like Wow.
- 8:56Sometimes it feels like the stars have to align perfectly
- 8:59for you to be able to just wait. You need like the perfect
- 9:02conditions of like people showing up and them needing your
- 9:06class and your role where Runescape just log in and play.
- 9:10It's great. It's it's why it's why some of
- 9:11these wild guys have been playing so much because we can't
- 9:14just play without the wait. Yeah, we'd have to wait, right?
- 9:17And again, them launching more versions of Wow has been making
- 9:21that part harder because people are just more split up.
- 9:25Yeah, people. Are.
- 9:26Afraid to roll on a new server? Because this is.
- 9:29A big deal. During during only things when I
- 9:31because I I played a warrior, I got to 60 and when I was trying
- 9:35to farm for the Priebus, like to, you know, just be a an
- 9:40actual yeah, help in the raid. It's like I had to wait for not
- 9:46only wait but just send messages out just like Please help me.
- 9:50And that's just a dungeon. It's easy to find the dungeon.
- 9:53Yeah, imagine a raid. Yeah, So it's, it's brutal, man.
- 9:57See what I'm saying? Yeah, it's it is rough.
- 9:59It's definitely not ideal. And.
- 10:01What happened right Oh yeah, well, only thanks like it was
- 10:04great. It was super fun but as soon as
- 10:06people started logging off and they got their gear, it became
- 10:09harder to find groups because you're just you're dependent on
- 10:13the guilt depending on the community.
- 10:15As soon as that community starts to like fall apart or play
- 10:19different versions of the game, the game just stops working.
- 10:22That's the main issue. Wow.
- 10:23It's it's anti solo player which again is what's cool about it as
- 10:27well. But seeing how Runescape works,
- 10:30I'm like damn this is so much easier I can just play.
- 10:33Why is it not like this over there?
- 10:36Yeah, yeah, it's, it's a, it's a weird, I guess it is a slippery
- 10:39slope too, because I know there is, there's plenty of arguments
- 10:42for, you know, keeping an MMO based.
- 10:45Around absolutely, absolutely. I understand those arguments,
- 10:49but it's also like 2025 now, you know, it's no longer the old,
- 10:54the the way it was, right? Like, I don't know.
- 10:58Yeah, I remember, actually, I don't remember if it was, I
- 11:02guess it was a few Wow guys that I had made a, a video talking
- 11:06about like the state of Mmos a couple years ago.
- 11:09And, you know, a bunch of people reacted to it.
- 11:12And one of the common things that was brought up about the
- 11:16whole, you know, depending on other players and, you know, the
- 11:19social aspect of things is they brought up the fact that when
- 11:23Wow was, you know, in its prime, you know, especially around the
- 11:26time that you started playing things like Discord and, you
- 11:29know, all like Facebook and stuff weren't as as big when it
- 11:33first started. So Wow served as like that
- 11:37social sort of medium for people that they could go to and like
- 11:40talk to people, make friends. And nowadays no one's talking in
- 11:44the games very much. People don't use it to talk.
- 11:47So things like guilds and, you know, finding people for
- 11:50dungeons. It's almost like this annoyance
- 11:52because it's not where we do our socializing, which I never
- 11:56really thought about. So I guess in in Runescapes
- 11:58world, not only do people not really need to socialize as much
- 12:02or to like be dependent on on gameplay because of that, but
- 12:06also most people are playing a single player game mode of an
- 12:09Iron Man like the like extra don't need anybody.
- 12:12So it's just very interesting kind of seeing the the parallel
- 12:15there like of end game content and where raids are.
- 12:19It's such a different design though.
- 12:21I'll interrupt you here, sorry. Oh yeah, No, go ahead.
- 12:23Wow, it's like you have forced interaction with Runescape, you
- 12:28have interaction that you do if you want to do it.
- 12:30So like if I see another player like I was doing so it's funny.
- 12:34I've been doing Phishing Trawler recently, right?
- 12:36Not a fan of it, but I was doing it, yeah.
- 12:39And it took me 120 to just get my salary.
- 12:42Just got it today. Nice dude.
- 12:44And on the trawler, you don't have to interact with anybody,
- 12:48but people are still sharing how many runs they've done, how many
- 12:51pieces I've gotten, right? And it's it's just, it's cooler
- 12:54that way. We're like, oh, I have to
- 12:56whisper you so I can join a trawler.
- 12:58Like like you don't, I don't want to do it, but I have to do
- 13:01it right? Like Wow, it's force where
- 13:03Runescape, it's more more natural, more dynamic, right?
- 13:06It's like imagine you're playing while you're leveling.
- 13:08You run into another player and you just say hi.
- 13:11Like that's like a more, I feel like natural reaction of
- 13:15socialization in a game. And I wish it was more like that
- 13:18sometimes sort of like, oh, I got to whisper you so I can make
- 13:21a group. It's like friction, right?
- 13:23Yeah, definitely. And, and looking at the, all
- 13:26that considered, especially looking at all the different
- 13:29versions of Wow right now, there's, there's this discussion
- 13:32of classic plus constantly in the air, like everyone kind of,
- 13:36you know, yearning for a classic plus, you know, some, some sort
- 13:40of equivalent that Runescape got.
- 13:43And, you know, there's, there's so many complications that come
- 13:46with that. But when you're thinking about
- 13:49classic plus, what kind of thing do you envision that would kind
- 13:54of separate it from the, the things they've tried, like
- 13:57season of discovery and the, you know, the, the different
- 14:00versions of Wow? How would it be this big
- 14:03different spectacle? I love this question bro.
- 14:07Yeah, all right, all right, all right.
- 14:09So the thing with Classic Plus that I would like to see the
- 14:11most is permanence. Not like a seasonal game where
- 14:15it's like a lot of hype and people are playing it at the
- 14:18start and then they fall off, right?
- 14:19Because they're like, ah, it's not really where to play
- 14:21anymore, I'm too behind, I can't catch up.
- 14:23Right. Right.
- 14:24What what they need to wait here to focus on is an MMO should not
- 14:29be a game where there's a reset button every so few months, so
- 14:33few years with like expansions, for example, Right.
- 14:36I was saying before is like expansions.
- 14:39They they look good, they look interesting, exciting, but
- 14:43they're kind of like a scam because you're basically trading
- 14:48in old content for new content. You're not gaining more content
- 14:52because the old content is not relevant anymore because now
- 14:55everything revolves around the new expansion.
- 14:58Here's an example, right? So like The Burning Crusade, one
- 15:00of the most revered expansions ever.
- 15:02Like people are going to love TBC.
- 15:03It's like a favorite, right? Right.
- 15:05Thing about TBC is you have Vanilla Wow, which is like 20-30
- 15:09zones and then TBC Outland, it's like 8 zones.
- 15:13Sadly, those older zones, those 2530 zones, they just, they
- 15:16don't matter anymore. You don't need to be there
- 15:18anymore. So now you have 8 zones out of
- 15:2125. They're new, they're exciting,
- 15:23they're hype, but you have a smaller game, you no longer go
- 15:27there. Like imagine a Runescape.
- 15:28If like you no longer had to go to Lumbridge ever.
- 15:32There's no point being a Lumbridge or Vera because like
- 15:34now everything is in Varanimore. Yeah, that's TPC.
- 15:37And again, like people love it, but like they aren't, they don't
- 15:40understand that it doesn't have to be that way.
- 15:42You don't have to just because you add something new, remove
- 15:46the old and make the old redundant.
- 15:48So I would like to see with Classic Plus where they add
- 15:51content without cannibalizing and making the older content not
- 15:55important anymore. Like add a rate pass extramos
- 15:59and keep molten core relevant for example.
- 16:02Right, Yeah, it's I, I guess it's always rough to to try and
- 16:07brainstorm stuff like that for a game like Wow that has a very
- 16:12vertical progression system. Exactly.
- 16:14You know, it's tough, but this is the opportunity because you
- 16:18can't really do that with like the other versions because
- 16:20they're already set up. You got what I'm saying?
- 16:22But if you're making a new game, you have a chance to go back to
- 16:26the drawing board and rethink the game design a bit.
- 16:29This is their their one chance really.
- 16:31If they if they don't do it now, it's never happening.
- 16:33I, I hopefully they're, they're cooking something up.
- 16:35That would be awesome to see. I'm sure everyone's going to try
- 16:38it. If, if they do, I also with some
- 16:40sort of labeled like, you know, classic plus, like if classic
- 16:44plus is ever promoted, it's going to be crazy.
- 16:47So hopefully the it'll be, you know, meet everyone's
- 16:50expectations. Even if the game sucks, people
- 16:53are going to play it like it's going to be like a big deal for
- 16:55at least a few months and then probably will die out, even if
- 16:59it's pretty good. What I hope that happens is like
- 17:02similar to what happened with Runescape is over the years when
- 17:05they actually started adding new Colton to the game, like with
- 17:07Zulra, the Grand Exchange, stuff like that, the player base.
- 17:10So it's building up again, like hey, actually this game is good.
- 17:13What the hell? It wasn't just like a couple
- 17:15years of hype and that's it. I'm not saying it's going to
- 17:18happen with Wow as well, but like it could, it could happen.
- 17:21It's a bit of cold, but. Hopefully you can only hope I
- 17:24guess, but I guess the transition over to the old
- 17:30school Runescape stuff. Yes.
- 17:32I, I think you had started around in in July, you kind of
- 17:36with that massive wave of everybody kind of logging in for
- 17:39the first time coming over from a.
- 17:41Little later. Was it a little?
- 17:42Later I started play. I started playing I believe it
- 17:45was like the 17th of July. So I was like one of the last
- 17:49people to start playing because I was going to play miss a
- 17:52Pandora Classic and I was still planning on playing.
- 17:55I'm going to try Runescape. I'm bored of the pre patch.
- 17:57I'm a play for a couple days, probably not like the game and
- 18:00quit right? I didn't think I would like it.
- 18:02I've always was on the back of my mind to play it though.
- 18:04Bit of a back story, 2000 and nine 2010 friends in school were
- 18:09playing Runescape. I know what the game is.
- 18:10I have heard about it. I asked my mom can I play?
- 18:13Can I get a membership? No, same deal.
- 18:16She doesn't want to get a subscription right?
- 18:18And I didn't want to be the guy without a membership.
- 18:20So I never played it. I always knew about the game,
- 18:22but I I didn't know how cool it actually is now that I'm playing
- 18:25it. But I, it was a game I wanted to
- 18:27try at some point. And even playing in only fans
- 18:30like with you and like perp and already other like content
- 18:33careers from Runescape, I got more interested and we were
- 18:37talking to Guzu about it at Twitchcon his way.
- 18:38He told me it was going to be playing.
- 18:39It was like, OK, that sounds interesting.
- 18:41Yeah, I might try it out at some point.
- 18:43Yeah. Here I am 1200 hours later in
- 18:47three months. By the way.
- 18:49So like, yeah, I'm hooked. But like, yeah, it's kind of a
- 18:51back story, I guess. It's interesting hearing
- 18:53everybody like kind of, you know, that that week or two
- 18:57before maybe even the stream before just going in and seeing
- 19:01Vods of everyone, kind of like, I don't know if I should try it.
- 19:05Like, I don't know about Runescape, Yeah.
- 19:06You're. Just weird.
- 19:08Yeah. Yeah.
- 19:09Like, because what were your impressions of Runescape as a
- 19:12game prior to logging in? Like creating your own account.
- 19:16So I thought Runescape it was all about just chopping down
- 19:20trees. Just chopping.
- 19:21Just chopping trees. That's all I knew.
- 19:22All I knew about the game, chopping trees and scams.
- 19:25That's all I knew. Damn.
- 19:26Right, I, I had no idea. It was like actually high end
- 19:29PVM and like interesting PvP and like a variety of skills and I
- 19:34had no idea, right? It's an outsider perspective.
- 19:36The game looked a bit weird and it was just mostly like grinding
- 19:39trees and like maybe super long grinds, but obviously that that
- 19:42wasn't it. But that's all I knew.
- 19:44Is that one of those things, it's hard to get past that
- 19:46right? Like, even even if you're wrong
- 19:48about what you believe, it doesn't matter because you
- 19:50believe it, right? It's just one of those things
- 19:53you just could be wrong about something.
- 19:55What did you think about the graphics?
- 19:58I prefer Wow graphics even now, right?
- 20:00Yeah, but it's not as so once you start playing and you turn
- 20:05on the GPU. Oh yeah.
- 20:07Room light. Yeah, night and day.
- 20:08It's not that bad. Yeah, it's not that bad, right?
- 20:11I also have animation smoothing, which makes it look a bit
- 20:14better. And I have like a setting on the
- 20:16GPU that's that makes it sharper.
- 20:18And people ask me all the time, how is it so sharp?
- 20:20It's just like a setting. I'm not using HD 117 for
- 20:23example, right? I didn't go that far, but I
- 20:26don't mind it. I now that I'm playing, I don't
- 20:28care. It's fine.
- 20:29I think it looks good. Yeah, it's it's definitely got a
- 20:32charm to it. It's got a character, man.
- 20:34Like you can tell what it is, right?
- 20:36This is going to sound a little weird.
- 20:38Some games that come out nowadays, I don't like the way
- 20:41they look because they look too realistic to to There's no,
- 20:44there's all like character or soul in the game.
- 20:46It's just like some kind of like Unreal Engine 5, Like it's too,
- 20:49it's too good. Yeah.
- 20:51You know, Runescape, Classic Wow, you can tell their old
- 20:54games, you can tell their games, right.
- 20:56Like it's, it's a charm of the game, like you said, you know,
- 20:58it's a plus. Oh, definitely.
- 21:00Yeah, it's it definitely beats the the the borrowed assets of
- 21:04Unreal Engine 5, all the characters looking the exact
- 21:07same and moving the same funky way and they.
- 21:09Bro, you just said, you just said it.
- 21:11You just said it. They all look the same, bro.
- 21:13Like like every game, like you can't, you can't differentiate.
- 21:16Yeah, there's no, it's just one of those things where the the
- 21:19main problem, Jimmy, is like when you get closer to like
- 21:22realistic graphics, like how we look in real life, then there's
- 21:26less flexibility. Oh, definitely, yeah.
- 21:29Like obviously from the 1980s onwards, there were massive
- 21:32leaps right on how games look like.
- 21:34You go from like, I don't know, I didn't play like From on Atari
- 21:38game, but I go like Atari game, to like Nintendo 64 and then to
- 21:42like PlayStation one, PlayStation two.
- 21:44There were massive leaps on how good games look.
- 21:47But once you get closer to like how we look in real life,
- 21:50there's not much progress to be made.
- 21:52If anything, it just becomes more expensive to play because
- 21:55you need a better PC. Yeah, you get what I'm saying?
- 21:57Like. Yeah, things being less
- 21:59stylized. It's not, it's not too fun if a
- 22:02game doesn't have its own, you know, like being able to
- 22:04recognize a game by its character design and everything
- 22:07is a really nice touch. I'd say I'm glad that things
- 22:11like you can see a Wow character in completely out of context and
- 22:17recognize that it's from Wow you.
- 22:18Know what it is? You know what it is, bro?
- 22:20Yeah. You know what it is without
- 22:21playing the game. Exactly.
- 22:23Like without even playing. And what's the same with me and
- 22:25Runescape? I knew that would be a Runescape
- 22:28thing because of the way that character looks like.
- 22:30Oh, that's from Escape. Yeah, it's such a unique
- 22:32character design. Yeah.
- 22:34And the main reason is the game's been around for 20 years
- 22:36as well, right? Like it being around a long time
- 22:38helps. Oh, yeah, definitely.
- 22:40Yeah. And so many people have tried
- 22:42to, even if for a day or two as kids, you know, it's still
- 22:46around. Like it's recognizable because
- 22:47of how different it is from all the other ones.
- 22:50Do you remember just I mean, you, you are so deep in the game
- 22:54right now, like unbelievably deep.
- 22:56But do you remember like your first week of playing old school
- 23:00and just the different, the different like thoughts that you
- 23:03were having playing that, you know, this, this coming from a
- 23:07game that's just vertical progression, like Wow brain, you
- 23:10know, there's only so many paths you could take into a game like.
- 23:13All such a good question. Like, do you remember what, what
- 23:16kind of things you were noticing, what you were
- 23:18thinking? It is actually unreal how
- 23:22different I looked at the game and played the game.
- 23:24Week 1 done. Now it is.
- 23:26It is almost like nostalgia and it's 3 months ago.
- 23:29Yeah like the first week. Dude, I was not using quest
- 23:33helper. I didn't ever went on the wiki.
- 23:35I also didn't re chat on purpose when I get spoiled right yeah it
- 23:39took me one hour to find a knife in the game for a quest.
- 23:44That's how lost I was Yeah like like you have no idea bro.
- 23:47Like I, I, I I almost died to like wolves on white wolf
- 23:50mountain because I didn't know you can go around the mountain.
- 23:53I almost got killed by the dark with like, the most noob of
- 23:56noobs. Like I had roofs turned on, you
- 23:59know, like, Oh yeah. And it, it was, it was
- 24:02overwhelming. I'm not going to lie.
- 24:03I could have seen myself quitting that first week.
- 24:06Yeah, I I was curious to see if who would survive the first
- 24:09week, like see if anything was too much.
- 24:11First week is rough, man. Like like I, I think Runescape,
- 24:16can I go on a bit of a spiral here?
- 24:17Yeah. Absolutely.
- 24:18Yeah, Feel free. Yeah, feel free.
- 24:20So I think Runescape has a bit of a filter in the beginning.
- 24:23I could see a lot of people quitting that first week, right?
- 24:26Where you have so much friction, man.
- 24:28You have, you know, like, you have no agility level, so you
- 24:31just walk all the time. It sucks.
- 24:32You don't have fairy wings. You have no way to teleport
- 24:35anywhere. You have no law rooms.
- 24:36You're so screwed, Right? Yeah.
- 24:38It's really, really challenging. I have so many quests you can
- 24:40do. You don't know what to do.
- 24:42But if you make it past that first week, you're hooked, man.
- 24:46You're going to get quality of life up the wazoo out of
- 24:49nowhere. Like, because The thing is, when
- 24:51you have a little friction on a game, and then you unlock
- 24:54quality of life and remove friction, it feels great.
- 24:57Yeah. Whereas what?
- 24:58Wow, it's like there's no friction in the beginning.
- 25:02Game is so easy, right? But then you start getting
- 25:05friction. Why?
- 25:06Because you got to find people to play the game with, you got
- 25:08to find a rate. And that's when people quit.
- 25:11People quit Wow when they get to the to Max level where Runescape
- 25:15they quit at the beginning. And if they don't, they're going
- 25:18to play a longer time. And that's what I noticed.
- 25:20Like I have way more fun playing the game right now than I did
- 25:24the first week. It's not even close.
- 25:26Now I'm saying the game sucked in the beginning, but compared
- 25:29to now it's it's like night and day difference, right?
- 25:32Because there's a lot of confusion.
- 25:33You're overwhelmed, right? You're playing a new game and
- 25:36it's it's tough. It's not a, it's not a great new
- 25:39player experience. That's why they made some
- 25:40changes with Tutorial Island, for example, a few days ago,
- 25:44right? Did they realize that like,
- 25:45yeah, it's a bit rough, but you don't want to hold people's hand
- 25:48too much, you know, it's, it's kind of like a rite of passage.
- 25:50Yeah. Anything about it?
- 25:51Definitely, yeah. Things like, you know, finally
- 25:54being able to create your your POH and putting teleports in
- 25:58there and like. A jewelry box.
- 26:00It's like. You know it, it takes forever to
- 26:02get that, but once you do, you are soaring like you're feeling
- 26:06like you're on top of the world. It's like it's awesome and it.
- 26:09Feels good because it sucked before.
- 26:11Like it feels good and wild to get a mounted level 40 because
- 26:14you don't have a mount before level 40, right?
- 26:16Even a mounted level 1, you won't know what that's like.
- 26:18Yeah, you need to suffer a little bit, feel good about it.
- 26:23It's. But if you suffer too much, you
- 26:24might quit. That's the thing, right?
- 26:25You got to find the balance. Yeah.
- 26:27Is that really rough? Like the beginning of Runescape
- 26:29is rough. And there were a lot of wild
- 26:31players have tried and I quit, right.
- 26:34I I could see why. Yeah.
- 26:36Did you fall? I I remember there was a wild
- 26:38player meta of trying old school of basically rushing agility
- 26:42levels immediately because no one liked running out of run
- 26:44energy. Did you follow that or did you
- 26:47just not really? I didn't know about that matter
- 26:51but I did get 72 agility in like 3 weeks.
- 26:54Nice. Yeah, that's yeah, that's good.
- 26:57I didn't. So this is this is how I thought
- 26:59about it's like, hey, graceful set means I don't have to walk
- 27:02as much. And agility was just I'm not
- 27:05going to say I like agility, but it was chill to do while
- 27:07watching YouTube. Like I was just doing it off
- 27:09stream 2 hours a day. It wasn't that bad.
- 27:11Like I think people blow it out of proportion just getting to
- 27:15like 70 AG. If you just chip at it a bit
- 27:17every day you'll get there right?
- 27:19It was easy to call them on stream to just yap and do
- 27:21agility like couple of rooftops right?
- 27:23Oh yeah, it flies by. I rushed it not not because it
- 27:26was a meta, I just just happened to pick that skill and I thought
- 27:30it was worth it anyway. Yeah, that's good.
- 27:33Yeah, I think a lot of Wow guys were like asking their chat like
- 27:37why is run energy so bad? Like, how do I get this up?
- 27:39And they just said agility and suddenly everybody was just like
- 27:42going to the rooftops. Like it was so funny to watch
- 27:45just everybody their first week, like getting way too high
- 27:48agility levels. That's cool.
- 27:51Yeah. That's that's awesome that you
- 27:52were able to kind of see past that, or at least push past the
- 27:57the early game struggles of navigating around.
- 28:02Yeah, they definitely made it easier nowadays for for new
- 28:05players too with like mini game teleport, stuff like that, that
- 28:10you just definitely didn't exist for a while.
- 28:12That's all I did, bro. That's all I did.
- 28:14That's the only way for me to travel was like, Oh my God, my
- 28:16mini game teleport is ready. I can go pest control teleport
- 28:20and I'm at Port Serum. Yeah.
- 28:22Huge quality of life. Like crazy quality.
- 28:24Of life. You know what's crazy bro is
- 28:26when you get your Rd. cloak, you got your Rd. cloak.
- 28:28Like Oh my God I can just TP here all the time.
- 28:32It's crazy thing. Yeah, just that unlimited prayer
- 28:35restore, close fairy ring, just a beautiful thing, just a great
- 28:39feeling. Yeah, yeah, early game is really
- 28:43fun getting those little unlocks, like it's so rewarding.
- 28:46So that's good that if you've kind of seen all of that, that's
- 28:50awesome. Did you ever try doing the whole
- 28:54like guide list thing? Or were you pretty quick on the
- 28:56whole like wikiscape, you know, quest helper like?
- 29:01What direction did you take? So again the first week I did
- 29:04nothing like 0 help and I was like OK I wanted to try the game
- 29:09raw first that's it. I knew I was going to use quest
- 29:12helper and after that I just started using quest helper, the
- 29:15optimal Iron Man. I was hardcore for like a month
- 29:19and a half before I died. So I was always trying to be a
- 29:22little safe. And it was like another thing,
- 29:24like I kinda I kind of feel like hardcore was not the play as a
- 29:28new player like you, you just like miss out on a lot of the
- 29:31game. But I just thought like you
- 29:33might as well start hardcore if you die, like you keep playing.
- 29:36But like, definitely it's, it's hindered me so much with my
- 29:40progress because I couldn't go to Waldy and stuff.
- 29:42Right? Yeah.
- 29:43But yeah, I just kind of like wiki stuff.
- 29:45I have something I call wiki weaving.
- 29:46It's when you're fishing or whatever and you just wiki
- 29:49something like learn. I love the wiki.
- 29:51Wiki's great. It's like Wow, head on steroids.
- 29:54That is a really good idea. You just kind.
- 29:56Of it's just, it's just all information like Oh my God, like
- 29:59you're gonna look at drop rates, like how do I get asylum?
- 30:01What, what kind of XP per hour rates?
- 30:03Like, I'm just like a nerd and I the wiki like allows me to nerd
- 30:06more, you know, it's good. Yeah, it's the greatest wiki in
- 30:09all of gaming. It's not even close.
- 30:10It's the the. It's so good.
- 30:12It's wiki team is is they're heroes, They're actual heroes.
- 30:16Like I can't believe they they run a site that good.
- 30:19It's so it's so awesome. They're the goats, man.
- 30:22They're the goats for. Sure.
- 30:23Yeah, definitely. So I mean, I'm guessing, yeah,
- 30:25like like you said, you're now that you're experiencing the
- 30:29current stage of where you're at in the game with all like the
- 30:32quality of life and stuff. It's it's pretty clear that, you
- 30:34know, this style of, you know, learning about efficiency is
- 30:38definitely become what you enjoy the most rather than kind of
- 30:42going in blind for everything, but figuring out optimal ways of
- 30:46playing and all that. So that's, that's cool.
- 30:49Not always, right? Not always.
- 30:51Some bosses I I choose to go blind because I think it's good
- 30:54content for the stream. Oh yeah.
- 30:57So like I don't always like look up everything, right.
- 30:59Like I would say for most, most of the time for the bosses, I
- 31:02don't I haven't seen the fight. I intentionally go in not
- 31:05knowing, right. If I'm doing a quest, I would
- 31:08like follow the arrow. Yeah, that that I was doing for
- 31:11sure. I like to ask you like, hey,
- 31:13what's the best way to do stuff and stuff like that, you know?
- 31:16Yeah, more curious. Speaking of quests, but I mean,
- 31:19I know you said you use quest helper for it a lot, but what
- 31:21what's your opinion on quests of old school?
- 31:24Because that is like a a big difference compared to other
- 31:29Mmos is that you know, they have a storyline, it's a one and
- 31:32done. You know, it's not fetch and
- 31:34kill quest. So what's your opinion on that?
- 31:37So I'm not going to say I'm a massive fan of quests and
- 31:39Runescape. I I personally, I don't.
- 31:43I always say like it was a lot of running around, like a lot of
- 31:48you have to call get a lot of items like, but but I will admit
- 31:53when you finish your question, this game, it feels amazing.
- 31:57You actually have a you have accomplished something like and
- 32:01like some of the quests were so good.
- 32:03I mean, Desert Treasure 2 is like an entire game.
- 32:06It's a game. It's like a story game.
- 32:08I read all of it. I I I think it was 10 out of 10,
- 32:11like cinema quest, right? Yeah.
- 32:13But yeah, like overall the question experience, maybe it's
- 32:16not for me, but I didn't hate it.
- 32:18It's just like there were like some quests that had so much
- 32:20friction, so much like collecting your vibes, like, Oh
- 32:23my God, I gotta go there, gotta go there.
- 32:25Like, but I did it anyway. I got my questscape right?
- 32:27Like, yeah, it's fine. It's just it's not what I would
- 32:31tell. Like I want to say I would play
- 32:33Runescape for quests, but I think for some people it's
- 32:37amazing. I can imagine you're a puzzle
- 32:38surfer. You play without quest helper.
- 32:40You just want to solve the quest yourself dude.
- 32:43Like you got 1000 hours of content probably right?
- 32:46Like it's. Insane sometimes you might have
- 32:481000 hours on one little quest step because of how terrible the
- 32:52guide is. Like in game for what to do
- 32:55next. Like there's some terrible like
- 32:57I. Could like not not appreciate
- 32:59something, but I can appreciate that someone else likes it.
- 33:02Yeah. I think there's like the
- 33:04questing experience is like 10 out of 10 for some people
- 33:06easily, you know, So I'm not gonna shit on it too much
- 33:10because I didn't like like it a lot, but I didn't.
- 33:12Oh, I guess some quests were great, like the My arm question,
- 33:15the troll question, for example. Yeah, it's just great banter and
- 33:18lore. You can tell it's like super
- 33:21political color questing. It's just a bunch of drunk
- 33:24people. It's silly.
- 33:26It's stupid. It's goofy.
- 33:27Yeah, I enjoyed that about it. Yeah, I I've always loved that
- 33:31about old school of just not taking itself too seriously and
- 33:35always keeping. Exactly.
- 33:37Our character as nothing more than an an adventurer.
- 33:39No matter like what crazy thing you do in the world, like no
- 33:42matter what you accomplish, everyone just kind of sees you
- 33:44as a guy, you know, It's just like.
- 33:47You just arguing with the MPC's like you're just insulting each
- 33:50other. Yeah, that's so good.
- 33:52You are not the champion and the savior of the world.
- 33:54Yeah, you are just another idiot.
- 33:57Yeah, I love that. I love that about it.
- 33:59That's my favorite point. So I guess for context, you
- 34:05know, you have around a little over 1900 total level.
- 34:09You're about to hit 99 farming soon.
- 34:12It looks like you've got a quest Cape.
- 34:14Yeah, and it seems like you've had a quite a variety of crazy
- 34:20RNG drops, so you've experienced a ton of stuff.
- 34:24And you're going there. You're going there.
- 34:26Oh shit. Yeah.
- 34:27So I mean like not, not in any details and stuff like I know
- 34:32like your CGI saw that a little bit.
- 34:34You've been there for a little bit.
- 34:36Not got. Your I'm trying, I'm trying.
- 34:38Yeah, that's just, you know, it is what it is.
- 34:40It is what it is. But all that being said, like
- 34:44looking back at this journey so far, what experience here, like
- 34:49what, what area of the game have you found yourself enjoying the
- 34:52absolute most in terms of like, yo-yo, you're about to start
- 34:55your stream and you've got this thing planned and that excites
- 34:58you more than anything. Like what?
- 35:00What part of the game gets you feeling like that?
- 35:03I think right now we might be doing Slayer.
- 35:05Yeah. Which is really crazy because in
- 35:07the beginning I hated Slayer because it was like points
- 35:10boosting and, you know, it wasn't really that exciting.
- 35:12There's no interesting drops, right?
- 35:14Yeah, but now entering the 80s in Slayer, there's a lot of cool
- 35:19unlocks on the way. Bosses you can fight.
- 35:21You can really fight the boss because of like, how crazy is
- 35:23that? Like because I have a number, I
- 35:26can fight a boss. Yeah, I can't do it otherwise.
- 35:28So like, I'm like, Oh my God, I'm 3 levels away, 4 levels
- 35:31where I'm fighting Sire, I'm 10 levels where I'm fighting
- 35:34Serabus, you know, like there's all these cool bosses I want to
- 35:37check out and there's exciting dopamine drops.
- 35:40So like, yeah, I think it might be Slayer, the most thing, the
- 35:43most exciting thing right now, like for me.
- 35:45Yeah, which is crazy. Yeah, it's definitely AII find
- 35:48that Slayer's definitely a hit or miss for players.
- 35:50It's either like their favorite or their least favorite.
- 35:52There's not a lot of in between. It's not.
- 35:54Really bad man, it's so bad it was probably in the beginning.
- 35:58Like that's the thing with Runescape, some skills get way
- 36:03more fun like farming farming did.
- 36:06I had five crash outs on farming in the beginning.
- 36:08Did you like what the hell is the skill?
- 36:10I did. I literally crashed out so hard
- 36:13and then I did the quests, I did the quest.
- 36:16So I got my farming level higher.
- 36:17Then I unlocked the teeth farm TD farm.
- 36:19How you how you call that right? And I looked up and I was doing
- 36:24that till 46 and then everything changed because of Jane, how
- 36:29Jane is. Yeah, contract contracts.
- 36:32So she changed my life. Yeah.
- 36:35So if it wasn't for Jane, I would not be 98 farming.
- 36:38She gives me all these seed packs for me, doing contracts
- 36:41for her all the time, and it's just great.
- 36:43It's really nice. And now I love this skill.
- 36:46I'm going to be 99 in like 5 or 6 days.
- 36:48That's awesome, are you stoked to get your first skill Cape?
- 36:51I am, yeah. I've already planned, like, with
- 36:52the viewers, like a party at like, the Draynor Village, and
- 36:55I'm going to, like, harvest potatoes, where it all started
- 36:57to get to 99. I got to make sure that I met it
- 37:00out correctly. Yeah.
- 37:02Hell yeah, dude, that's awesome. It's always a very, very special
- 37:06feeling getting your first 99. It is you'll you'll never forget
- 37:09what it was. You'll never forget when it
- 37:11happened. It's going to be awesome.
- 37:13Yeah, it's like your first fire Cape or something, right?
- 37:16Yeah, it's iconic. How did you, how did your fire
- 37:19Cape runs go like, because that was that's like everyone's
- 37:21pretty much their first big. Yeah.
- 37:24You know, accomplishment like item in the game that that you
- 37:28basically have to get to get to a certain point.
- 37:32So what? What are your thoughts are like
- 37:33when you learned about the fire Cape and and your experience
- 37:36with it? I was really nervous and like
- 37:38when I got to jad, I had like how people have jad hands.
- 37:42Yeah, right. I had jad voice.
- 37:45Did you I like started squeaking yeah, that's it.
- 37:47So I I wasn't like blind on jab. I didn't know everything about
- 37:51it right, but I did see a couple of clips and I knew you you
- 37:54could walk through the boss between attacks when the ad
- 37:58spawned and then they get stuck right after you like hit them or
- 38:02something. So I did that hit the three ads
- 38:05and I went through the boss. I'm like, oh, I'm good.
- 38:07I just kill it now right on my first try.
- 38:08It's insane. Well, there's four ads, so I
- 38:12don't know that. And I was like, what do I do,
- 38:15guys? What do I do?
- 38:16What do I do? And I died so and I died again
- 38:18second, second pull and I got on the third try, but dude, it was
- 38:21rough. I mean, it was like 2 1/2 hours
- 38:23for me just to just to do the whole thing.
- 38:26Yeah, it's. Like a lot of prayer position.
- 38:28It's intense bro. And like, I that bro, that was
- 38:31an experience like straight up and 10 people and I want to do
- 38:34inferno Cape at some point. Like I'm like, how am I going to
- 38:37do that? If fire Cape went like that?
- 38:40You know, it's it's very intimidating.
- 38:41I was intimidated by fire Cape and now I'm intimidated by like
- 38:44the way harder things. But you can eventually get
- 38:47there, you know, you just gotta gotta go through those nerves.
- 38:50I always tell people that, you know, infernal Cape is just a
- 38:53it's a battle of attrition of like, you know, can can you
- 38:56outlast suck in attempts, You know, because it's just
- 39:00everyone's journey is so different.
- 39:02I've watched so many people take on, you know, they're infertile
- 39:05Cape and it's just like, do you have the mental strength to
- 39:09learn from your mistakes and just go again?
- 39:12Like that's all it really is, Just learn.
- 39:15I've been procrastinating for seven years.
- 39:16I've never gotten an infertile Cape because I just know that
- 39:19it's going to be a long commitment.
- 39:21Just like everyone does it. There's no way like, and it
- 39:24could be the easiest thing ever, but it's just the idea of doing
- 39:28it, yeah, puts off a lot of people.
- 39:30Yeah. Like I haven't even told my
- 39:31child like I'm doing it for sure because I'm like, bro, I'm it's
- 39:35not even there yet, you know, like maybe one day, right?
- 39:37But it's like I'm, I'm not like super confident about it.
- 39:40It's got to be some really more arc ape either.
- 39:43So yeah, yeah, you got, you got to work for it for sure.
- 39:46Yeah. Oh yeah.
- 39:47You know what I want to do though?
- 39:48I want to do Delve 8, which is technically harder mechanically,
- 39:52but because it's only like 10 minutes, it's not that
- 39:55intimidating, you know what I mean?
- 39:57Yeah, that stuff is crazy. Yeah, the Delve stuff is crazy.
- 40:00Crazy. It's way harder, right?
- 40:02But because it's 10 minutes. I could do 10 minutes, 2 1/2
- 40:06hours though to see ZOC and then what I see in my heart is gonna
- 40:09fucking explode. That's the thing.
- 40:11It's the nerves, man. It is, yeah.
- 40:13That's when it comes down to for most of the high level content
- 40:18is just like keeping your cool because it's so easy to just
- 40:22click the wrong square once and suddenly you find yourself
- 40:25clicking 8 squares in two seconds because you're trying to
- 40:28figure out and not dying as like, you know?
- 40:30It's just like that's the spawn in the end, those like little
- 40:33ads that like shoot stuff at you and then like I think you can't
- 40:36click the same tiles again. Like you have to walk
- 40:39differently. And then like that thing is
- 40:41slowly dying that's shielding you.
- 40:42And then there's like more ads. Like I don't even know bro.
- 40:45Like I feel like. And then just to get to him you
- 40:47got to do 3 jazz. Like it's so it's so scary man.
- 40:51How do people do this? Yeah, there's a lot, lot of
- 40:54stuff to learn, but it's very learnable.
- 40:57If I've learned anything, it's that, you know, the Inferno is
- 40:59super, super learnable. And there's obviously there's a
- 41:04ton of old school creators and stuff that love walking people
- 41:09through, you know, the, especially the, the wow guys of
- 41:11like these, these big PVM achievements and, and goals.
- 41:16It, it's been super exciting watching everybody kind of learn
- 41:20these mechanics for the first time and then take them on.
- 41:22So it, whenever you do try it, it's going to be fun.
- 41:25It's going to be a lot of fun for everyone to watch.
- 41:28It's going to be go Carlton for sure.
- 41:29Yeah, it's yeah, it's going to be fun.
- 41:32I I think I saw in your title today was like day 76 or
- 41:35something like that. So you've, yeah, you know, day
- 41:397619 hundred total. Do you think that you see
- 41:44yourself playing old school for a long time after this?
- 41:47Or do you think you're kind of going to like get to a certain
- 41:50amount of goals and then put it down for a while and then come
- 41:53back later? Or how do you kind of see old
- 41:55school working into your gaming future, especially as a
- 41:58streamer? Very nice question.
- 42:00So for me it's like I always feel like there's something
- 42:03doing this game right. However, I feel like if I did
- 42:07get a Max scape, I would lose the fun of skilling.
- 42:12I must say I would quit. But like that.
- 42:14That for me could be a point of like less interest in the game.
- 42:19So that's why I've been like trying to not make that as a
- 42:21goal because I'm afraid that I would maybe not want to play as
- 42:24much. But you can still play more
- 42:26after Maxcape. Like that's nothing, right?
- 42:28Like in the long terms of things like bro, I've seen people that
- 42:32like they don't even remember when they maxed.
- 42:34That's how long you all went, right?
- 42:37But that's for me from my perspective where I am now would
- 42:40be like almost like beating the game, but I know it's not
- 42:42beating the game at all. Obviously, like beating the game
- 42:45is getting all the clogs almost, which no one's done.
- 42:48And like getting a Zach helmet, like there's so much crazy stuff
- 42:51you can do, right? Yeah, that's the nice thing
- 42:53about the game. It's like it's it's not beatable
- 42:55technically, yeah. So you can always just play,
- 42:58right, Right. Yeah, I do see the game more
- 43:01long term now. I don't think it's like a couple
- 43:02month thing at all. Like my current goal of you know
- 43:05this is to get achievement game. Oh yeah.
- 43:08It's gonna take easily three more months minimum.
- 43:11Oh yeah. That's one of the best.
- 43:13Two LED Diaries already, did you?
- 43:16It's awesome. Yeah.
- 43:16Like, yeah. About Falador and Lumbridge.
- 43:19Yeah, that, yeah, there's no joke, man.
- 43:21There's achievements. There's some of them that's
- 43:23like, whoa, that's gonna be a couple months there for that
- 43:26level. 5 Barbarian Assault. Oh yeah.
- 43:29Oh yeah. 96 Fishing woo. Yeah.
- 43:33That's why fishing can remble ones man.
- 43:34Yeah, that's why I always just like, I just salute everybody
- 43:38that has that Cape. It's like with the coolest Cape
- 43:40and it takes so long to get. It's a nice Cape to get.
- 43:44It's like you get questions and then you get achievement Cape
- 43:47and then there's made Mascape, right?
- 43:49I think that's the order. You don't just go like The thing
- 43:53is like 99's are daunting right now.
- 43:55Like I'm like, how do you even get a 99, right?
- 43:57Like farming's easy, right? But like some of these 99's are
- 44:00crazy. So if you slowly progress it
- 44:02through different goals like Questcape, because you got to
- 44:05get your skills up for that achievement Cape, got to get
- 44:07them higher, and then you have Mascape is all that crazy at
- 44:10that point right now. It's crazy when I have
- 44:12achievement Cape, maybe it's not that bad.
- 44:14It's only like, you know, 2000 more hours, you know, like
- 44:17something like that, right? Versus being like 4000 right
- 44:20now. You have to incrementally
- 44:22progress the game. Like the way I see, I think
- 44:25skilling is easy in Runescape. You just got to play a lot.
- 44:28What's hard is the mechanics like infernal Cape, Colosseum,
- 44:32velvet. That's where the real challenge
- 44:34is because like that's nerves. You have to plague, you have to
- 44:36click precisely, you know, skinning guys just got to play a
- 44:40lot, you know? Right, There's obviously been a
- 44:42big a big chunk of the Wow guys who've either just kind of lost
- 44:46interest or kind of like put it down.
- 44:50And as you being someone who has just just full send day after
- 44:57day playing this game like many, many hours, you said you what
- 45:00you say 1200 hours at at this point, something like that.
- 45:03I'm at 50. Let me tell you right now.
- 45:06OK? 59 days.
- 45:08Wow. Yeah, that's more than 1200,
- 45:10actually. Yeah, that's that's nuts.
- 45:12More so you've got that insight of like, you know, playing this
- 45:16game so much and like having these goals keeping you going.
- 45:20But a lot of the Wow guys either didn't make it to that point of
- 45:24like finding a goal or, you know, maybe they burnt
- 45:26themselves out. Do you think like the Wow
- 45:28mentality, like the vertical progression of like feeling like
- 45:32you're constantly on a timer to get things done?
- 45:35Do you think that played into like a burnout system at all?
- 45:38Maybe a little bit like, because you don't need to rush in
- 45:41Runescape, there's no rush, right?
- 45:43You just choose to do it if you want to, right?
- 45:45So maybe some people are like, oh, I have to get my BofA as
- 45:49soon as possible. I have to get it right now.
- 45:51Like I have to do like 30 runs a day, then yeah, you're going to
- 45:54burn out, right? So what I've been trying to do
- 45:57personally is do CG 4 hours a stream, not a day a stream.
- 46:03It's a lot, but like, it's not like 8 hours, right?
- 46:05It's not like the whole stream. But you got to find what works
- 46:08for you. I mean, some people, bro, some
- 46:09people like, I'm just going to work on that one thing and put
- 46:12in a 100% effort and that's how you can burn out.
- 46:16And then some other people are like, dude, I don't care.
- 46:18I'll get the thing when I get it.
- 46:20I'm going to just explore the game and have fun.
- 46:22Like, like the way Goose has been playing, you know, like
- 46:24there's so many ways to approach Runescape and you just got to
- 46:29find out what works for you, right?
- 46:31Yeah, 100% because. Burnout is real.
- 46:33Like, I've been playing a lot. I've been playing, I'm gonna
- 46:35mind admitting like 14 hours a day.
- 46:37Which is crazy, right? Yeah, 14 hours a day, five of
- 46:42those or maybe on my phone just doing like Crambo ones or or
- 46:46something that's super a like glass blowing, right.
- 46:47It's like I can, the fact you can play this game on the phone,
- 46:51by the way, 10 out of 10. I love that.
- 46:53I really do. It's so good, people.
- 46:55It's so underrated because like I like phone games.
- 46:57I like having a game on the phone so I can load the PC.
- 47:00I'm somewhere else. I can like just go do something
- 47:03quick. It's nice.
- 47:03I can do that with Runescape now.
- 47:05Yeah, it's awesome. Yeah.
- 47:06It's like it was a game even. I'm playing 14 hours a day, like
- 47:10it's I'm doing four or five hours on the phone.
- 47:12Like I do my farm run on the phone when I'm in bed, when I
- 47:15wake up, I'm just chilling with the cats next to my lap.
- 47:17It's just so comfortable. You know, he's like, it's so
- 47:20easy. You know, you just, you just log
- 47:22in, you play a little bit, right?
- 47:23You do like something that doesn't require a lot of clicks
- 47:26and you know, you don't feel like you're anchored at the on
- 47:29front of your computer and you're like hooked and you're
- 47:32not doing anything else right. Like I've played wild for less
- 47:35and felt more exhausted because I'm at the PC, you know,
- 47:39definitely wait. I'm with other people.
- 47:41I'm I have to do something. I have, I've assigned, I've an
- 47:44assignment, you know, it's, it's more flexible, man.
- 47:48That's what I'm trying to say. Yeah, yeah.
- 47:50Old school has has become a part of your life, to say the least.
- 47:54It's like, Oh yeah. I mean, I'm definitely playing
- 47:57still too much like I, I need to slow down a little bit.
- 48:00But yeah, it's just it's just been a long time for me that
- 48:03have been disinvested and like wanting to grind because a while
- 48:07I felt like I've done most of what you can do, you know?
- 48:10Yeah, like exploring a new game like this and it having all
- 48:14these avenues for you to put in the hours and see the rewards
- 48:18feels great. Oh, absolutely.
- 48:20Yeah, yeah. It's it's so crazy just seeing
- 48:25your stats and stuff with how how new you are to the game,
- 48:28just like how much you've progressed.
- 48:30Like you have a Fury on an Iron Man.
- 48:32It's like what the fuck, dude? When I made that neck, it it
- 48:36was, it felt so good, bro. Oh yeah, because all those
- 48:41glasses I blew, you know, like all that sand I mind is.
- 48:44And then you finally see the the fruit of it, you know, I mean,
- 48:47like, yeah, I was sick. If I get a Zenite, for example,
- 48:51now I can make an anguish. I I have a task.
- 48:54Hopefully I get it tomorrow. And then boom I have this
- 48:57bestest lot necklace like poof. That's nuts.
- 49:00That is absolutely nuts. So I mean, is it safe to say
- 49:03like, I mean, I guess it's kind of a a a tough question because
- 49:08I mean this is definitely mostly a streamer sort of I guess
- 49:12topic, but you've put a lot of hours into the game and it's
- 49:15it's become like the game that you are streaming.
- 49:17So I mean, I don't like saying, you know, maining a game, but do
- 49:23you see yourself having this become a part of at least like
- 49:26your main games that you have a part of like your tool belt as a
- 49:29streamer? Oh yeah, I mean, I always
- 49:31stream. Well, that's all I've done.
- 49:32I've streamed Wow 16,000 hours in five years, so you know,
- 49:36yeah. But now, like this game has
- 49:41probably entered My Portfolio. Yeah, yeah, let's say Classic
- 49:45plus came out. I'm not playing Runescape
- 49:46anymore, right? I could see myself playing
- 49:49Runescape again when they did a content updates.
- 49:52You know, it doesn't have to be on your skill.
- 49:54I'm just saying like they added like a zone or they added a new
- 49:57PVM thing, right? Like, I could generally see
- 49:59myself then, like, let's play some more old school.
- 50:02Yeah. Like, I think I've also built a
- 50:04bit of a audience now that wants to watch me play the game as
- 50:07well. Oh yeah.
- 50:08Definitely only wild viewers, you know, So that also helps.
- 50:10Like, it's very hard to branch out.
- 50:12You probably know this right as a streamer.
- 50:14Absolutely. It's you just you kind of have a
- 50:17niche like especially me, like I'm just a wild guy.
- 50:19Like I just play any other game. It's like way less viewership
- 50:22and stuff, right? And still is.
- 50:24But it's not bad enough to where like I have to go back and
- 50:26stream Wow enough to where I can still like financially be OK.
- 50:31So I'm very grateful for that, you know, right, It's been nice.
- 50:34Yeah, I, I think it's, it's always interesting to see all
- 50:38the like, where the Wow guys are now and just wondering like, you
- 50:43know, a year from now who's going to still be regularly
- 50:46streaming old school and stuff. Because you know, in in this
- 50:50community, like in the old school community, looking at our
- 50:53main streamers, I mean, we've got like foe who, I mean, he's
- 50:58been doing old school so long. There's literally an NPC in the
- 51:01game named Paul because he was one of the first ones to do in
- 51:04Iron Man. Like he's been doing things in
- 51:08old school since 2013 and is still right now, like going
- 51:14through and making new accounts and making it entertaining and
- 51:18experiencing the game in new ways.
- 51:20It's just like when you think the journey is over, there's
- 51:24like 600 things you haven't even thought of doing yet.
- 51:27And it's like I'm I'm really excited to see which of the Wow
- 51:30guys end up kind of adapting that mentality and seeing, you
- 51:34know, what cool things they decide to do on their stream if
- 51:39old school becomes a part of their regular schedule or, you
- 51:42know, maybe they convert entirely, who knows?
- 51:45But it just goes to show how much potential there is in old
- 51:51school to. Yeah, there there's a lot,
- 51:53right. You have all these different
- 51:55game modes of like Iron Man main, UIM Pierce.
- 51:59Like that's why I'm playing Iron Man because it's a slower paced
- 52:01game. With Iron Man I can just buy
- 52:03everything and then I have more content as a streamer.
- 52:06It's like a win, win. You know what I mean?
- 52:08Like it'll be very hard for me to be like, yeah, I don't know
- 52:11what to do anymore, guys. Yeah, it's just there's always
- 52:13something you can you can get like it's hard to have
- 52:17everything. I mean, no one's done it right.
- 52:19It's always a clue score you can do.
- 52:21Yeah, yeah, and I'm glad most of the Wow guys end up, I think
- 52:26every, almost everyone ended up playing an Iron Man at least
- 52:29like if not hardcore, then, you know, an Iron Man because you
- 52:31really do experience 100% of the systems in the game if you play
- 52:36Iron Man. So it it doesn't, you know,
- 52:38you're not missing. I mean, there's a few things you
- 52:41might, you know, not really need to do, but for the most part,
- 52:44like you're, you're getting all the essentials no matter what.
- 52:46You're not skipping any parts. So it's it's good that everyone
- 52:50chose that route. I think it's the most
- 52:51entertaining by far. There's you know, there's this
- 52:54famous line. I'm sure you've heard it.
- 52:56You may even said it. This progression matters, you
- 53:01know, when comparing the, you know, sort of cycle the, the
- 53:05gameplay loop of Wow versus the horizontal progression of old
- 53:11school. Since I don't have too much
- 53:13experience with Wow, so I can't really like use it as an
- 53:16argument, I feel like. But as someone who's super deep
- 53:19into old school and having so much Wow experience behind you,
- 53:23would you say that the phrase progression matters is
- 53:27applicable here? Like is it true?
- 53:30Oh yeah, I mean, I mean, the way I understand that question is
- 53:33like and Wow, you, you progress, you clear the raid, but in like
- 53:376 months there's a new raid and all the gear you got doesn't
- 53:40matter much anymore, right? Right.
- 53:42So like all that progression eventually is not relevant.
- 53:45Whereas in Runescape you have to progress your skill from one XP
- 53:48to 13 million, right? So the XP you earn matters.
- 53:53It is gotten you somewhere, you have benefited from that.
- 53:56So yeah, I would say that's a true statement.
- 53:58OK, cool. Yeah, just because.
- 54:01Like even getting items in this game you still use them.
- 54:04Like people still use barrows gear for stuff even if old
- 54:07content is crazy. Yeah, just, I had just talked
- 54:09about that like earlier today of, of Barrows equipment, you
- 54:13know, Barrows coming out in 2005 and it's still like a pretty
- 54:17essential pit stop for every Iron Man in in 2025.
- 54:20So it's like 20 years later, this content is still for
- 54:22Diaries. Yeah.
- 54:24And for Diaries, Yeah. I, I think I have one last very
- 54:27important question here. It's probably the most most
- 54:30important one, I think. What would you rate Old School
- 54:34Runescape out of 10? Oh, I'm really bad with the
- 54:38stuff, Yeah. It's a terrible question, that's
- 54:41why I ask it. I'm going to sound like a shill
- 54:44about I, I say like town, town right now for a minute like it
- 54:47is. It's just hitting all the
- 54:49checkpoints. Yeah, I think you have the most
- 54:50credentials to give it a 10. To be honest, I I don't know if
- 54:53there's anyone that has more completion in on their account
- 54:58than you. If anything, it is a 10 out of
- 55:0010 on accessibility. Like this is like the most
- 55:04accessible game I've ever played.
- 55:06Like I can play it on the phone, I can play it solo all the time.
- 55:10It's just, yeah, it's so underrated.
- 55:13The fact you can just chop a tree.
- 55:15You can just go fish Crambo once and make meaningful, relevant
- 55:20progression. Yeah, that is so good, bro.
- 55:23It's so good. And the other part of say talent
- 55:26tennis, I like dope. I mean hits with like loots and
- 55:28there's so much exciting loots. Like I got a Warhammer recently
- 55:32that felt. Insane.
- 55:33I saw that clip shaking. Yeah, I saw that.
- 55:36That was awesome. That was cool.
- 55:38Like there's stuff like that in Wow as well, but it's more
- 55:41limited. I feel like Runescape has more
- 55:43more loot to chase. And another reason why I like
- 55:45Iron Man. You know it's gonna feel better
- 55:47when you get an item like that. Yeah, Yeah.
- 55:49That's very special, really. Yeah.
- 55:52As cliche as it is, I'd say that.
- 55:54Yeah, no, I, I agree. I absolutely agree.
- 55:57It's like the more I, I, I talk with everyone about it and you
- 56:01know, I've been covering various Runescape topics and video
- 56:04essays for, for many years now. And it's just, it becomes more
- 56:07and more evident of how, how amazing this game is.
- 56:11Like when and, and any flaws that it has, it's usually
- 56:15addressed and fixed. And it's just the, you know, the
- 56:17communication between players and devs is awesome.
- 56:20And it's just like, I can't believe that, you know, this MMO
- 56:25exists like this sort of dynamic between players and devs and all
- 56:28this system game. Like this would never come out
- 56:31in this time, Yeah. Exactly so the way.
- 56:34Companies work the the goals of them, they would never make a
- 56:37game like this. Yeah, yeah.
- 56:39Are you stoked for sailing? By the way, I saw the new blog
- 56:42post. Yeah, yeah, the announcement
- 56:4419th. I'm worried because I might not
- 56:46have both of by then. Oh no, I was like secretly
- 56:50hoping for it to be a bit later, but like, obviously people want
- 56:53it sooner, so I'm excited about it, right.
- 56:54But yeah, my plan is like, if I don't get both of by then, I'll
- 56:57take a couple week break from CG, focus on the new content.
- 57:01Right, Yeah. And then go back to do my day
- 57:04before hours in the red prison. Yeah, yeah.
- 57:06CGCG ain't going anywhere by them.
- 57:09Yeah, it ain't. Going anywhere?
- 57:11Yeah, it's all good. Good stuff.
- 57:14Well man, thank you so much for taking time after your stream,
- 57:17especially to talk with me about all this stuff.
- 57:19This was awesome. All good, my house.
- 57:21It was fun. Questions you asked like really
- 57:23once. Yeah, man, Is there anything I
- 57:25missed like maybe you wanted to touch on regarding old school?
- 57:29Like, I don't know if there's anything that we missed that you
- 57:31were thinking about. I don't know, I feel like a lot
- 57:33of the good rants that I have on my stream, I I said here like
- 57:36you actually hit the questions right on the nail man, like it
- 57:39was perfect good. Good, because I was.
- 57:42I've been worried about. That I was actually impressed.
- 57:44Like it's like almost like you watched my stream and you see
- 57:47the things that I say and then you ask the questions of what
- 57:49triggered those answers. Like, it's like kind of
- 57:50impressive. Actually, I guess I've had like
- 57:525 other people to kind of refine the questions for before, so
- 57:57I've kind of like eliminated some, added some.
- 57:59So I'm glad this is like. Version.
- 58:01Yeah, I've kind of made sure you've got the the really good
- 58:05questions formatted here. I'm glad.
- 58:08Sweet. A big thank you to Joker for
- 58:10taking the time out to talk with me.
- 58:12He had actually just ended a 10 1/2 hour stream before having
- 58:16that whole conversation you just listened to.
- 58:18So my God I it's kind of unbelievable.
- 58:24He just doesn't stop. He can't be stopped.
- 58:26Thank you joker. Next episode I'm talking with
- 58:29somebody who took the RP spotlight during Only Fangs.
- 58:32Seems to constantly have a smile on his face every time I TuneIn,
- 58:36and he also seemed to talk with almost every other Runescape
- 58:39creator aside from me up until now.
- 58:41Next time, we're talking with Savix.
