- Lucas: Luna, are you ready for our 50th episode? Can you believe it? Luna: Fifty episodes! That's amazing. I feel like I've learned so much French already. Lucas: And today we're going to add something really useful — talking about nationalities and where you're from. Luna: Oh, I've always wanted to be able to say 'I'm American' in French. Let's do it. Lucas: Exactly. So first up: 'I am French.' If you're a man, you say 'Je suis français.' Let's break it down: Je suis français. Luna: Je suis français. Lucas: Perfect. Now if you're a woman, you add an 'e' at the end: 'Je suis française.' Luna: Je suis française. Lucas: You got it. So the ending changes depending on gender. For example, I would say 'Je suis français' because I'm a man. Luna: And I'm a woman, so I say 'Je suis française.' Got it. Lucas: Let's practice with some other nationalities. 'Je suis américain' for a man, 'Je suis américaine' for a woman. Luna: Je suis américaine. That's me! Lucas: That's right. Now what if you want to ask someone? 'Are you English?' To a man: 'Tu es anglais?' Luna: Tu es anglais? Lucas: To a woman: 'Tu es anglaise?' Luna: Tu es anglaise? Lucas: Excellent. Notice the 's' for masculine and 'se' for feminine. Let's do a little dialogue. I'll ask you: 'D'où es-tu?' That means 'Where are you from?' Luna: D'où es-tu? Lucas: Now you answer. You can say 'Je suis de Paris' if you're from Paris. But you can also say 'Je suis américaine.' Luna: Okay, so: Je suis de New York. Lucas: Perfect! 'Je suis de New York.' So 'de' means 'from.' Let me ask you again: 'D'où es-tu?' Luna: Je suis de New York. Et toi, Lucas? D'où es-tu? Lucas: Moi, je suis de Paris. Je suis français. So now you can ask and answer where you're from. Let's review all the phrases we learned today. Luna: Yeah, let's go through them one more time. Lucas: First: 'Je suis français' or 'Je suis française'. Say them with me. Luna: Je suis français. Je suis française. Lucas: Then 'Tu es anglais?' or 'Tu es anglaise?'. Luna: Tu es anglais? Tu es anglaise? Lucas: And finally: 'D'où es-tu?' and 'Je suis de...' Luna: D'où es-tu? Je suis de New York. Lucas: That's it! You can now talk about nationalities and where you're from. And remember, if you want to say you're from a city, use 'de' — like 'Je suis de Paris.' or 'Je suis de Londres.' Luna: This is so useful. I can't wait to use it. Thanks, Lucas! Lucas: You're welcome, Luna. And thank you to all our listeners for joining us for 50 episodes. Keep practicing with Fexingo, and we'll see you next time for more French! Luna: À bientôt!
