- 1:02Speaker 1: oh nine, four oh three, nine, seven to three. When

- 1:10Speaker 1: send them to me at Mike Gilshow we've been compiling
- 1:14Speaker 1: our summer Eagles mail bag questions for the guys, and
- 1:17Speaker 1: today in the hot seat, it's Andrew to checko from
- 1:20Speaker 1: the Inside of the Birds podcast as he has our
- 1:23Speaker 1: football at four summer mail bag questions. What's going on? Andrew, Hey, Mike,
- 1:28Speaker 1: how are you?
- 1:28Speaker 2: I'm doing great.
- 1:29Speaker 1: We're doing good, man, And a lot of questions building
- 1:31Speaker 1: up in the mail bag as we count down to
- 1:34Speaker 1: training camp. I think Adam said on Friday show, we
- 1:37Speaker 1: are about five weeks away to Eagles training camp. So
- 1:42Speaker 1: here we go. We got a lot of questions for you, Andrew,
- 1:44Speaker 1: Here we go. Let's get the first one. This is
- 1:47Speaker 1: from Dave in Summer's Points at First off, Andrew love
- 1:50Speaker 1: your appearances. He asked this question with Aj Brown gone,
- 1:54Speaker 1: DeVante Smith is here. Who do you look at? He says,
- 1:57Speaker 1: My question is how do all these pieces fit together?
- 2:00Speaker 1: Who takes that number two and three spot at wide
- 2:04Speaker 1: receiver during training camp?
- 2:07Speaker 2: Yeah? Well, first off, Dave, I appreciate the kid words.
- 2:10Speaker 2: And then when you look at this wide receiver group,
- 2:13Speaker 2: they have a lot of diversity in terms of what
- 2:15Speaker 2: they can bring from a skill set perspective. Obviously, Devonte
- 2:18Speaker 2: Smith will be the top option there. But then depending
- 2:22Speaker 2: on how you look at it, I view makay Lemon
- 2:24Speaker 2: as an inside slot receiver. He can play outside, but
- 2:27Speaker 2: predominantly I imagine he's going to operate outside of the slot.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Do I think will command more targets than the third
- 2:34Speaker 2: player I'm gonna mention in Dantavian Wicks. Yeah, probably, But
- 2:38Speaker 2: I think Dntavian Wicks gives you that bigger body receiver
- 2:41Speaker 2: that you're gonna win on the field more often than not.
- 2:43Speaker 2: He can be that boundary X type of player six
- 2:46Speaker 2: foot one, two hundred and six pounds. He's more of
- 2:49Speaker 2: a short to intermediate guy who can separate at the
- 2:52Speaker 2: top of routes and be sort of a safety valve
- 2:54Speaker 2: of sorts. I think Makayle Lemon, to that end, could
- 2:57Speaker 2: also fill that role as well as being someone who
- 3:01Speaker 2: can work the middle of the field. But he can
- 3:03Speaker 2: also catch and run and create yards after the catch.
- 3:06Speaker 2: So I think if you're looking at it in terms
- 3:08Speaker 2: of target share, mackay Lemon would be the number two,
- 3:11Speaker 2: But don Tavian Wix gives you a little bit more
- 3:14Speaker 2: flexibility in terms of what you can do from a
- 3:17Speaker 2: personnel perspective, and so I think that that's kind of
- 3:21Speaker 2: the way you're going to see it shape up, all right.
- 3:23Speaker 1: This one is from Sam over an egg Harbor Township
- 3:27Speaker 1: by says Yo Andrew, help me figure this out. We
- 3:29Speaker 1: brought in Woolen and Jonathan Jones. We have Mitchell, Cooper
- 3:34Speaker 1: Degene looks like he's going to safety. Do you think
- 3:36Speaker 1: the corners are going to be better this season?
- 3:40Speaker 2: Yo, Sam, Yes, I do believe so, and so Riequollan.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Then take this with the grain of salt, of course,
- 3:46Speaker 2: because it is spring practices. Was the standout player there.
- 3:50Speaker 2: You don't often see corners who are six foot four
- 3:52Speaker 2: who can move the way that he can. His ball
- 3:54Speaker 2: skills were a parent you saw, or I saw what
- 3:58Speaker 2: his skill set could provide and confine spaces in the
- 4:00Speaker 2: red zone. But we'll see what happens when the pads
- 4:03Speaker 2: come on. Now. I think the secondary is going to
- 4:05Speaker 2: be better because when you add a player like that
- 4:07Speaker 2: who can solidify that second spot that has been a
- 4:10Speaker 2: position of turbulence for goals, it stabilizes it. You have
- 4:15Speaker 2: a solid pairing opposite Quinnon Mitchell, and it allows vic
- 4:18Speaker 2: Fanjia to be a little bit more flexible in terms
- 4:20Speaker 2: of what he can do with personnel, and he mentioned
- 4:23Speaker 2: Jonathan Jones, and I really appreciate that because that's a
- 4:26Speaker 2: player that probably is flying a little bit under the radar,
- 4:29Speaker 2: but I view that as perhaps the Eagles' most underrated
- 4:33Speaker 2: of the one year signings, meaning that he can step
- 4:36Speaker 2: in and play inside, he can play outside. If you
- 4:39Speaker 2: need him to step in and play safety in a pinch,
- 4:41Speaker 2: he can do that. He's played at a high level
- 4:44Speaker 2: throughout his career. Now he's a little bit older, so
- 4:47Speaker 2: his plays tapered off, but he's played in playoff games,
- 4:50Speaker 2: and now you have sort of a buffer where you
- 4:53Speaker 2: don't have to rely on a ki Lee Ringo or
- 4:55Speaker 2: a Jaquorian Bennett to step in should an injury surface.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Now you have a veteran who's going to give you
- 5:01Speaker 2: a competent level of production when he's on the field.
- 5:04Speaker 2: There's demonstrated performance there. So with Jonathan Jones, I think
- 5:08Speaker 2: that gives you another piece that takes the secondary to
- 5:11Speaker 2: another level. Is there an area of opportunity there at
- 5:14Speaker 2: the safety position, perhaps, but you can't pay everybody. They're
- 5:18Speaker 2: not going to have all pros across the board. The
- 5:20Speaker 2: Eagles are bullish on Drew mccouba and his second year potential.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Marcus EPs is a player that Vic Vangiels spoke glowingly about.
- 5:27Speaker 2: He's someone that you can depend on. You know that
- 5:30Speaker 2: he's going to be as Simon sound and find himself
- 5:32Speaker 2: at the right place at the right time. He gives
- 5:34Speaker 2: you a little something to be desired when it comes
- 5:37Speaker 2: to the athletic piece. But I like Michael Carter quite
- 5:40Speaker 2: a bit. I've always liked him when he was with
- 5:42Speaker 2: the Jets. He moves well, He's really sharp minded in
- 5:46Speaker 2: terms of this football intellect, and he can cover some ground,
- 5:49Speaker 2: and so the modern NFL safety needs to be able
- 5:51Speaker 2: to do that and be able to be sort of
- 5:53Speaker 2: a movable chess piece. He can do that. We need
- 5:56Speaker 2: to see how he transitions full time to safety ads
- 6:00Speaker 2: come on, how does he handle the wear and tear
- 6:03Speaker 2: demands of that position. He's a smaller guy at five
- 6:05Speaker 2: ten and eighty five pounds. But I like the components
- 6:08Speaker 2: that the Eagles have sort of added to complement what
- 6:11Speaker 2: they have in Quinna Mitchell and Cooper Degene, and I
- 6:13Speaker 2: think they're all going to fit together pretty well in
- 6:16Speaker 2: terms of the overall picture.
- 6:18Speaker 1: And Andrew to Czeko answering your summer mailbag questions. This
- 6:21Speaker 1: one is from Chris and Dennis Township. So that ANDREWI
- 6:24Speaker 1: I noticed Dallas god Grant Kalkaterra, and they drafted Eli
- 6:28Speaker 1: Stowers out of Vanderbilt. Do you look at that as
- 6:30Speaker 1: a luxury pick or is this more indication of a
- 6:35Speaker 1: lot of twelve personnel?
- 6:37Speaker 2: Well, I do believe it's going to be an indication
- 6:39Speaker 2: of a lot more twelve personnel. That's sort of the
- 6:41Speaker 2: influences in the background that Sean Mannion's coming in with,
- 6:45Speaker 2: and to maybe a lesser degree, he might even see
- 6:48Speaker 2: some thirteen personnel. But I believe that where the Eagles
- 6:52Speaker 2: took Eli Stowers, that was right around where he was
- 6:56Speaker 2: widely projected to go. I don't think that that was
- 6:59Speaker 2: necessarily viewed as a luxury pick as much as it
- 7:01Speaker 2: is setting yourself up for the future and adding another
- 7:05Speaker 2: player that you can move around. He offers alignment, versatility,
- 7:09Speaker 2: and he's a little bit of a work in progress
- 7:11Speaker 2: as a blocker. That should be expected. That wasn't really
- 7:13Speaker 2: his calling card at the collegiate level. He was their
- 7:16Speaker 2: top receiving option, so he didn't need to do that
- 7:18Speaker 2: as much. But I like the collection of tight ends
- 7:21Speaker 2: that they brought in Dallas Goddard. I think stants to
- 7:24Speaker 2: benefit greatly when you look at how the Packers used
- 7:27Speaker 2: Tucker Kraft and Luke Mussgrave, and then you have Johnny
- 7:30Speaker 2: Munt who can be that blocker Eli Stowers. While I
- 7:33Speaker 2: don't expect him to sizeable role as a rookie because
- 7:37Speaker 2: he is limited in terms of his blocking, I think
- 7:39Speaker 2: that there are going to be moments where you can
- 7:41Speaker 2: see it come to fruition. You can see the Eagles
- 7:43Speaker 2: vision come to fruition in terms of how they move
- 7:47Speaker 2: him around in the mismatches they can create with them.
- 7:49Speaker 2: But then next season, of course, they pass the baton
- 7:52Speaker 2: in all likelihood to Eli Stowers to be the tight
- 7:55Speaker 2: end of the future.
- 7:56Speaker 1: All right, Andrew, let's see what Steven mays Landing says. Andrew.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Let's go around the division, Dallas, Washington. Daniels is back
- 8:05Speaker 1: and the Giants or the Giants. Do you look at
- 8:07Speaker 1: the Eagles as an overwhelming favorite in the Nfseast this
- 8:11Speaker 1: year or do one of these teams worry you? Well?
- 8:15Speaker 2: I like what some of the division rivals in terms
- 8:17Speaker 2: of the New York Giants adding a John Harball adding
- 8:21Speaker 2: I believe Matt Naggi's over there now, so you have
- 8:24Speaker 2: some structure in place, coaches that are gonna give you
- 8:27Speaker 2: a baseline. And the Cowboys, I thought that was a
- 8:31Speaker 2: home run higher for Christian Parker, a defensive coordinator, that
- 8:35Speaker 2: was their problem. The offense hasn't been an issue for Dallas.
- 8:37Speaker 2: It's been the defensive side of the side of the
- 8:40Speaker 2: ball where they've been really leaky in coverage. They squandered
- 8:43Speaker 2: opportunities to close out games as a result. And when
- 8:47Speaker 2: you bring in someone like Christian Parker, who articulates his
- 8:50Speaker 2: vision exceptionally as a young coach, so I think ability
- 8:54Speaker 2: component that should be taken into account. I think that
- 8:57Speaker 2: they've done a nice job of adding some young pieces
- 9:00Speaker 2: that kind of fit the mold of what he's looking for.
- 9:03Speaker 2: I like what Dallas has done, So to answer that
- 9:05Speaker 2: question as as sinkly as possible, I think that Dallas
- 9:09Speaker 2: will be a team to certainly keep an eye on.
- 9:11Speaker 2: While I believe that the Commanders with now with the
- 9:14Speaker 2: healthy Jayden Philip I'm sorry, Jaden Daniels, and then you
- 9:20Speaker 2: have the Giants, there's still a couple of years away,
- 9:23Speaker 2: I think from being a viable contender in any capacity,
- 9:27Speaker 2: but the Dallas Cowboys, because they've shored up that defensive side,
- 9:31Speaker 2: at least right now on paper, I think that that's
- 9:34Speaker 2: a team to certainly earmarks as one to follow ups.
- 9:37Speaker 1: It's funny the Washington thing. We were talking about this
- 9:39Speaker 1: yesterday a little bit Andrew where it feels almost like
- 9:43Speaker 1: when they had Robert Griffin third that first year, it
- 9:46Speaker 1: felt like, oh my god, you're gonna have to deal
- 9:48Speaker 1: with this guy for ten years, and then after that
- 9:50Speaker 1: it was like, you hope jayde Daniels, for a football fan,
- 9:53Speaker 1: bounces back and yeah, really thrives, but you hope he
- 9:56Speaker 1: doesn't go down that RG three because he is a
- 9:58Speaker 1: smaller guy.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Yeah, he has a slight frame. The way that he
- 10:02Speaker 2: plays it lends itself to taking some big hits. And
- 10:05Speaker 2: I would also say that Jackson Dart if he doesn't
- 10:07Speaker 2: alter the way that he plays, he's going to be
- 10:09Speaker 2: more susceptible to injuries. Also, not the biggest guy in
- 10:12Speaker 2: the world as a little reckless in how you know,
- 10:16Speaker 2: he doesn't necessarily have the same awareness or presence of
- 10:20Speaker 2: mind of Jalen Hurts. Where I didn't think he took
- 10:22Speaker 2: a lot of hits when he was on the move.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Jackson dart for longevity purposes, and Jayden Daniels need to
- 10:28Speaker 2: find a way otherwise. It's going to be something I
- 10:31Speaker 2: would imagine similar to what you outlined with Robert Griffin. Third.
- 10:34Speaker 2: You hope to never see that because you saw the potential.
- 10:37Speaker 2: But I think the way that both of those young
- 10:40Speaker 2: quarterbacks play, that's where the long term projection becomes a
- 10:44Speaker 2: little murky because you don't quite have that certainty with
- 10:47Speaker 2: their health.
- 10:48Speaker 1: This one's from Sal out in Hamilton as Sal and Hamilton.
- 10:50Speaker 1: That sounds like a perfect match there. Hey, to check o,
- 10:54Speaker 1: what is your vibe on the offensive line this season?
- 10:58Speaker 1: We all know health was a problem there, So what
- 11:00Speaker 1: do you got. I know you saw a little bit
- 11:02Speaker 1: of them in Ota. You don't really get to see
- 11:03Speaker 1: them do much there, But what's your vibe on the
- 11:06Speaker 1: offensive line?
- 11:07Speaker 2: Yeah? So I love this question. And you don't really
- 11:11Speaker 2: get to fully gauge what they're doing on the field
- 11:13Speaker 2: because they're not running the football that much and spring
- 11:16Speaker 2: practices are pretty much geared towards the passing game. But
- 11:21Speaker 2: what I did glean is the optimism and eagerness with
- 11:26Speaker 2: from whether it was Lane Johnson, Cam Jurgens, Jordan mylotta
- 11:29Speaker 2: about sort of embracing this new system and how it's
- 11:33Speaker 2: going to accentuate what they do from an athletics standpoint,
- 11:37Speaker 2: but also from a health perspective. Mean, Johnson just seemed
- 11:42Speaker 2: and Cam Jurgens, they just seemed refreshed, be invigorated. And
- 11:46Speaker 2: I believe that that's going to really translate onto the field
- 11:51Speaker 2: and you know the dog days of summer when the
- 11:53Speaker 2: pads come on and they're really ironing out some things
- 11:57Speaker 2: and pinpointing what they want to do in terms of
- 12:00Speaker 2: the run schematics and things like that. So I think
- 12:03Speaker 2: there should be a lot of enthusiasm and optimism as
- 12:07Speaker 2: it surrounds the offensive line. They didn't drop off in
- 12:10Speaker 2: terms of talent, as we all know there they felt,
- 12:15Speaker 2: you know that the pitfall there was attrition and for
- 12:18Speaker 2: the Eagles offense to really take flight. It doesn't necessarily
- 12:22Speaker 2: matter all that much if Sean Mannion's the evil genius
- 12:25Speaker 2: that Jordanillott up billed him as, or if Sakwon Barkley
- 12:31Speaker 2: looks to be a little bit more spry, if they
- 12:33Speaker 2: don't have the offensive line of twenty twenty four or
- 12:36Speaker 2: even something comparable to that. It's not going to matter
- 12:39Speaker 2: what this offense looks like. The key to their success
- 12:42Speaker 2: is upfront there in the trenches. And I think right
- 12:44Speaker 2: now there's a lot of reason and just reading, you know,
- 12:49Speaker 2: body language and things like that.
- 12:51Speaker 1: All right, let's go to this one is from Rick
- 12:55Speaker 1: Over in Egg Harbor City. Has to do with the
- 12:58Speaker 1: edge rushing Johona Gernnard huge, but Nolan Smith, jalox Hunt.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Which guy do you think will have a bigger impact
- 13:06Speaker 1: this year?
- 13:08Speaker 2: Oh, jyalox Hunt to me, jyalox Hunt and Moro Jomo,
- 13:12Speaker 2: I've sort of pinpointed as my two defensive breakout candidates
- 13:16Speaker 2: that become household names at the end of this season.
- 13:19Speaker 2: So jalox Hunt to really offer a different perspective here.
- 13:24Speaker 2: He played six hundred and ninety three snaps last season.
- 13:28Speaker 2: That was four hundred and fifty two more snaps than
- 13:30Speaker 2: he played as a rookie, and he led the Eagles
- 13:33Speaker 2: edge rushers and snaps, sacks, quarterback hits, and he led
- 13:37Speaker 2: the defense and interceptions. He also tied with Jordan Davis
- 13:40Speaker 2: in tackles for loss, which I believe was nine. So
- 13:43Speaker 2: this is a players who took a pretty sizable leap
- 13:48Speaker 2: from year one to year two. And Vic Vandel pretty
- 13:52Speaker 2: highly of j Loox and his progression, saying he just
- 13:55Speaker 2: needs to keep doing what he's doing. He's going to
- 13:57Speaker 2: keep getting better and better. That's what you want to hear.
- 14:00Speaker 2: That's what you see when you're watching him out there
- 14:02Speaker 2: on the field in the spring, and while you're not
- 14:05Speaker 2: seeing the hand to hand combat where he's you know,
- 14:08Speaker 2: battling offensive tackles or anything like that. There's no pads
- 14:11Speaker 2: in the spring, but you can see the size that
- 14:15Speaker 2: he's put on the refinement in terms of his pass
- 14:18Speaker 2: rush plan. And he talked about his attention to detail
- 14:23Speaker 2: being the biggest difference in his game, entering Lee to
- 14:28Speaker 2: react and just his sets and things like that. So
- 14:32Speaker 2: Jalox Hunt now also goes into this season playing opposite
- 14:35Speaker 2: Jonathan Bernard and he was sort of unlocked a little
- 14:39Speaker 2: bit in Week ten when the Eagles added Jalen Phillips
- 14:41Speaker 2: at the trade deadline, where he had five and a
- 14:43Speaker 2: half sacks down the stretch just one prior to the
- 14:46Speaker 2: arrival of Jaylen Phillips. So I think now you're going
- 14:49Speaker 2: to see Jalox Hunt really turn the corner in year
- 14:53Speaker 2: three and push for double digit sacks.
- 14:56Speaker 1: All right, A couple more on our summer mailbag questions
- 14:58Speaker 1: for the guys from inside the Andrew Checo's in the
- 15:01Speaker 1: hot seat today and Chris and Ocean City says, with
- 15:04Speaker 1: all the recent stuff around the Birds, is it a
- 15:07Speaker 1: super Bowl or bust type of season for Nick Sirianni.
- 15:12Speaker 2: That's such a hard question to answer because I don't
- 15:16Speaker 2: know that that would be the case. You want to
- 15:18Speaker 2: see strides made offensively. You want to see the defense
- 15:23Speaker 2: continue its ascent, and I do believe it they're going
- 15:25Speaker 2: to be among the NFL as elite, certainly with the
- 15:28Speaker 2: pieces that they've added. And then you also have the
- 15:32Speaker 2: storyline of it being the third season with Vic Fangio
- 15:34Speaker 2: and many of the core players on that group are
- 15:37Speaker 2: entering their third season playing together. That being said to
- 15:41Speaker 2: say super Bowl or bus for Nick Siriani, I think
- 15:44Speaker 2: that's I think that's a little strong. Now. The roster
- 15:47Speaker 2: as it's currently constituted, as long as they stay healthy,
- 15:50Speaker 2: there's not much of a reason why barring the offense
- 15:54Speaker 2: just not meet meeting expectations. Making a deeper run in
- 15:58Speaker 2: the postseason, and I think that they're going to do
- 16:00Speaker 2: that and that should be the ultimate measure of success.
- 16:03Speaker 2: As long as you don't see a lot of the
- 16:06Speaker 2: prevailing themes that we've seen over the past couple of years,
- 16:09Speaker 2: and the shortcomings with the passing game sort of reveal itself.
- 16:12Speaker 2: I think that that should be viewed as a successful,
- 16:14Speaker 2: successful season, super Bowl or not.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Let's get one more in from Seth and Washington Township
- 16:21Speaker 1: here and he says, why do you think that Jalen
- 16:24Speaker 1: Carter has not got an extension yet?
- 16:28Speaker 2: Well, you have the shoulder thing that you want to
- 16:31Speaker 2: maybe see how he returns from that. This is a
- 16:33Speaker 2: sizeable investment that they're talking about here, and no one's
- 16:37Speaker 2: going to dispute that Jalen Carter, when healthy, has been
- 16:40Speaker 2: a centerpiece on this Eagles defense. But then you also
- 16:44Speaker 2: have the maturity component. Can't get tossed out of a
- 16:47Speaker 2: game spitting on the quarterback. You have to make sure
- 16:50Speaker 2: that you're following in line with the team's core values
- 16:53Speaker 2: and not letting your emotions get the best of you.
- 16:56Speaker 2: So this to me, and they did you know, pick
- 17:00Speaker 2: if I'm the Eagles, I want to see how Jayalen
- 17:02Speaker 2: Carter bounces back, and what do you seeing from him
- 17:05Speaker 2: in terms of overall growth. I've been pretty clear of
- 17:09Speaker 2: my bullishness for Jayleen Carter. I think he has the
- 17:12Speaker 2: ability and had it not been for last season, you
- 17:15Speaker 2: know he's he should be viewed among the top defensive
- 17:17Speaker 2: tackles in football. And when you look at what he
