- 0:14Welcome back, my dear friends, to the 130th solo episode of
- 0:19Living Without Fear. I'm at the Berkey, your host
- 0:23from Switzerland, and I'm so grateful that you're here with
- 0:27me today, listening with the open heart.
- 0:32You know, I always want to share with you my most personal
- 0:36stories, the ones that don't always look shiny on the surface
- 0:42but carry within them the deepest lessons.
- 0:46Because I truly believe that when we open up about our own
- 0:52struggles, we give permission to others to be real too.
- 0:59And today I want to talk about something that has shaped me
- 1:04profoundly. Something that changed how I see
- 1:09life, happiness, and even the wealth itself.
- 1:14It's about what it really means to feel rich.
- 1:20Not the kind of rich that's measured by your bank account or
- 1:25your possessions, but the kind of rich that lives quietly
- 1:31inside your heart, in your gratitude, your connections and
- 1:37your everyday moments. This understanding didn't come
- 1:43from reading a book or attending a seminar.
- 1:47It came from life itself, From travelling, from motherhood,
- 1:53from times when money was tight but my heart was full.
- 2:00And most of all, it came from one very special place that I
- 2:06keep close to my soul, India. Before COVID, I used to travel
- 2:13every year to India. Why?
- 2:16Because that country, with all its contrasts and chaos, has a
- 2:23heartbeat of spirituality that I have never found anywhere else.
- 2:31But there's something even deeper that keeps calling me
- 2:36back. The way people, they radiate
- 2:40richness without actually having much.
- 2:44They may live in simple homes without big cars or fancy
- 2:50furniture, yet their smiles tell you everything.
- 2:55They feel rich and it shows in the way they walk, the way they
- 3:02share and the way they look at you.
- 3:06As if life itself is already enough.
- 3:12I remember my very first trip to India with my two sons.
- 3:18They were just five and seven back then, and I was in the
- 3:22middle of getting divorced. It was a time of change,
- 3:28uncertainty and emotional rebuilding.
- 3:32But India embraced us like an old friend because we had
- 3:39already been to Egypt together with their father, my boys
- 3:44weren't shocked to see people who didn't own much.
- 3:49What surprised them, though, was how happy these people were in
- 3:55India. We didn't have our usual shower.
- 3:59Instead, we had bucket showers. And you know what?
- 4:03My sons absolutely loved them. They found it funny at 1st and
- 4:09then they started to prefer it. It became a little ritual, A
- 4:15playful joy. They learnt so quickly how
- 4:20creativity and resourcefulness can replace luxury.
- 4:26They watched locals adapt a SIM card to a new phone by simply
- 4:32cutting off a few edges. They saw how a metal statue
- 4:37could be cleaned with Coca-Cola and a brush.
- 4:41They learned how to make jewellery with cotton threads
- 4:45and beets. One day, we met a Tibetan woman
- 4:50who cooked the most delicious momos dumplings filled with
- 4:56love. Her she her kitchen was just a
- 4:59small corner of her mother's home, but her warmth filled the
- 5:05whole space. My sons became friends with her
- 5:09two boys who were older but so kind, and as we sat together
- 5:16eating her home cooked meal, I remember thinking this is what
- 5:22being rich feels like. We didn't have much.
- 5:27They didn't have much, but our hearts are full, our laughter
- 5:33was pure, and we felt completely at home.
- 5:37That's when I began to understand true wealth has very
- 5:43little to do with money. Years later, when I started my
- 5:48own business, I experienced moments when money was truly
- 5:53tight every time. One of my sons was invited to a
- 5:59birthday party. I felt stressed because I
- 6:02couldn't always afford the expensive Lego sets or branded
- 6:07toys that other families bought. I tried to suggest creative
- 6:13homemade gifts, but often their friends wanted the real thing.
- 6:21I felt small, poor and ashamed. And yet, looking back now, I see
- 6:28how wrong I was. We were rich in ways that no one
- 6:35could measure. Our time in India had opened our
- 6:39hearts and shaped us into people who value connection more than
- 6:44possessions. I had chosen to spend but little
- 6:50I had on experiences, not on things, because I believed those
- 6:57experiences would teach my sons more about life, compassion and
- 7:04gratitude than any toy ever could.
- 7:08And they did. Today, at 19 and 21, my sons are
- 7:15the most open hearted and curious souls I know.
- 7:20They connect easily with people from all over the world.
- 7:24They're humble, and they carry that same spark of appreciation
- 7:30that once lit up our little home in India.
- 7:35And that, to me, is priceless. So why am I telling you all
- 7:41this, dear listener? Because I want to remind you,
- 7:46your worth has nothing to do with the number in your bank
- 7:50account. I had to learn this lesson the
- 7:55hard way. With the help of two wonderful
- 7:58money coaches, they asked me to create a long list of what truly
- 8:05determines my worth. And I want to share that with
- 8:10you today because maybe it can help you too.
- 8:15I wrote down everything that makes me me.
- 8:21My ability to speak several languages.
- 8:24My joy in playing the violin in an orchestra.
- 8:29My love for swimming in the lake or the sea.
- 8:33My creativity when painting or crafting with my sons.
- 8:38My patience and care for the plants in my home.
- 8:44My strength from teaching skiing, my communication skills
- 8:49that connect me to people across cultures, my writing that has
- 8:55led to children, books and books for adults.
- 9:00The list grew longer and longer, and with every item I added, I
- 9:06started to feel wealthier without earning a single Swiss
- 9:12franc. More so, dear listener, this is
- 9:16your moment. Pause this episode right here
- 9:21and take a few minutes. Write down your own list
- 9:27everything that makes you feel rich.
- 9:30Your talents, your passions, your small daily joys, your
- 9:36resilience, your kindness, your laughter.
- 9:40Go ahead, I'll wait. Welcome back.
- 9:48Now tell me, on a scale from one to 10, how rich did you feel
- 9:53before making this list? And how rich do you feel now?
- 10:00Do you see how easy it is to shift your perception?
- 10:05Wealth isn't out there, it's inside you.
- 10:11And once you start seeing it, you'll begin to radiate it.
- 10:17You've probably heard of famous people who had everything,
- 10:23money, fame, power, and yet felt so lonely and unhappy that they
- 10:30ended their own lives. Their fortune couldn't feel the
- 10:35emptiness inside because true wealth doesn't come from having
- 10:41more, but from feeling enough. One more thing that helped me
- 10:48reconnect with that feeling was starting a gratitude practice.
- 10:54I began posting on Instagram every day, but I felt grateful
- 10:59for small or big and why it made me happy.
- 11:04It transformed my mindset completely.
- 11:09If you haven't started yet, maybe tonight is a beautiful
- 11:14moment to begin. Before going to bed, write down
- 11:19one thing you're grateful for today.
- 11:22Just one. And if you keep doing that every
- 11:26day, you'll soon realize you're richer than you ever imagined.
- 11:33Because richness is not what you own.
- 11:36It's what you feel. It's the love you give, the
- 11:41laughter you share, the peace you cultivate inside.
- 11:48So today, I invite you to start seeing your own life through
- 11:54this lens. Look around.
- 11:58Your breath, your morning coffee, your children's smiles,
- 12:03the light that touches your face.
- 12:07You are rich, my friend. You've always been.
- 12:13Thank you for listening, for feeling, and for growing with
- 12:17me. And if you feel called to work
- 12:21with me, please reach out. I would love to help you
- 12:25breakthrough all patterns and step into your new version with
- 12:31ease and laugh. Thank you for letting me share
- 12:36this very personal story with you.
- 12:39It means so much to me to know that my voice reaches your
- 12:44heart. Until next week, keep living
- 12:49without fear.
