- 0:08Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to our Season 6 premiere of Two
- 0:12Shot Tuesday. It's the weekly podcast you can
- 0:14enjoy on your break, Barry Nixon along with the one and only
- 0:17Jason Riley. Jay, Can you believe it?
- 0:19Here we are, six seasons of the show.
- 0:22I mean, this is unbelievable. Well said.
- 0:25Yeah, exactly. I'm 52 episodes per season too.
- 0:29Like this is we don't. We don't do short seasons, we
- 0:31don't take time off for the holidays.
- 0:34We come at you every single week.
- 0:36We are as steady as a Swiss watch.
- 0:38There you go. Very well put.
- 0:40Let's begin Season 6 with a shot.
- 0:43Oh, that sounds like a a new thing for us.
- 0:45Yeah, absolutely. What a great new idea.
- 0:47What have you got Barry for your first shot?
- 0:49Well, I want to just give a quick shout out because you and
- 0:52I, last week we're at the Whiskey Global event.
- 0:56Fantastic. The first vendor we met
- 0:58introduced us to this little beauty bear face.
- 1:01Nice. Notice the slashes on the
- 1:03bottle. I like that.
- 1:04You got it. You got a bottle.
- 1:05We talked about it on last week's show and here you are.
- 1:08You have produced a bottle in person as good as your words.
- 1:11It was at my local and the price point was exactly as we were
- 1:14told, 36 bucks. Nice.
- 1:17Here's to you, Jay. What are you enjoying over on
- 1:19your side? Well, I was gifted a number of,
- 1:22you know, almost like travel size whiskey bottles.
- 1:25And so there's one I've been sitting on for a while.
- 1:27I have tried it before. It can be a a an interesting
- 1:30tasting whiskey. It's called Sheepdog is peanut
- 1:35butter whiskey. And if you get right in there,
- 1:38it's not 70 proof, it's 70 woof you get back.
- 1:42Do you get what's happening there with proof?
- 1:45All right, we get it. So I'm going to do both of my
- 1:47shots are going to be of Sheepdog peanut butter flavored
- 1:51whiskey. OK, here's to shot #1 and Season
- 1:546 underway, Jay. Happy season, OK, talk to you.
- 2:01Barry, that was just as good as it was at Whiskey Global, I have
- 2:05to say. What notes are you getting from
- 2:07that one? Well, yeah, I mean notes.
- 2:11Go deep. It's like the.
- 2:13Entire London Symphony Orchestra is playing in the back of my
- 2:17throat right now. There's a lot going on it.
- 2:19There's a little bit of heat, there's a little bit of sweet,
- 2:21but I'm, I am very pleased to say there is 0 smoke because you
- 2:25know how I feel about that. Yeah, but we didn't spend a lot
- 2:28of time talking about it on the show last week.
- 2:30But yeah, there were some definitely Pete filled whiskey
- 2:33that didn't agree with you so much.
- 2:36And that's true. I, I sort of feel like I stand
- 2:39with you in solidarity so that when I taste a little bit of
- 2:42that smoky Pete, I'm also turned off by it.
- 2:44Just by how much you're turned off by it.
- 2:47Well, I appreciate it. There's something about taking a
- 2:49mouthful of campfire that I just can't get behind.
- 2:52I don't know what it is, but I know there are people out there
- 2:55that absolutely love it and God bless them.
- 2:57It's just odd for me. That's it.
- 2:59Sheepdog, let me tell you, has got more than just a note.
- 3:03It's got a whole notebook full of peanut butter flavor.
- 3:06So that's what I'm tasting right now.
- 3:08It's a. Sweet whiskey and I enjoy it in
- 3:12I would say small it's like a liqueur almost like in small
- 3:16doses I think is how I would have describe that I would enjoy
- 3:18it maybe not always in shot form, but for tonight, both
- 3:21shots from our friends at Sheepdog 70 Wolf very.
- 3:25Bad, not bad. Something pretty exciting
- 3:27happened to you this week, and I surprised you've been able to
- 3:30sit this quietly without talking about it, so I'm going to just
- 3:33step back and let you explain it to our listeners and our viewers
- 3:36for Season 6. Yeah, we need a little, a little
- 3:38room to breathe here. As you know, my wife and I,
- 3:41executive producer Linda Lebrun, are workout enthusiasts.
- 3:44You might even say it's more than just a season.
- 3:48It's a lifestyle that we are currently occupying.
- 3:51And Jack Small has begun. I don't know whether we didn't
- 3:55actually officially kick it off. We had Jack Summer now into Jack
- 3:59Fall and you know to support further gains as we approach the
- 4:03end of the calendar year. We invested in the top of the
- 4:07line weight bench from our friends at Rogue and we picked
- 4:11up the manta ray which is. Swimming in the.
- 4:15Manta Ray Yeah, absolutely. The depths, that's where all the
- 4:18gains are. Jay, you got to go deep.
- 4:21And I'm telling you right now, this thing is a beast.
- 4:24It's absolutely so solidly put together.
- 4:28It weighs 100 40 lbs. Great, there's a workout.
- 4:31Getting it to your, into your into your unit is a workout
- 4:35right there. Absolutely.
- 4:36And my trainer Andre was kind enough to show up early.
- 4:40We, we planned this. We couldn't have planned it any
- 4:42better. We pushed our Monday workout to
- 4:44Thursday and that was the delivery date.
- 4:47It came from the States in Columbus, OH.
- 4:49I followed it every step of the way.
- 4:51In fact, one night I probably texted you and said, Jay, it's
- 4:53in Kitchener. It's like 2 in the morning.
- 4:55You're like, I don't care. This is not what I need right
- 4:57now. But I shared it anyway because I
- 4:58was just that excited. So Andre came, he brought some
- 5:01tools, we put it together, he put it together, and then
- 5:04immediately afterwards we got a session using it.
- 5:07And I'm telling you right now, you've used other benches and
- 5:10there are other benches that are not as pricey as the Manta Ray.
- 5:14Sure, Yeah. But if, and I'm just going to
- 5:17say this, if you are, if you have the means, as they say in
- 5:20Ferris Bueller, I highly recommend you picking one of
- 5:23these up. If you are serious about, if you
- 5:25work out with intent, if there's something behind what you're
- 5:28doing, this is going to help you get to the next level.
- 5:31It is incredibly smooth to operate.
- 5:33There's no like having to yank things or pull things.
- 5:37Like everything just moves beautifully and smooth.
- 5:39There's like 3 or 4 different seat positions for like the main
- 5:43like the what you sit on that seat but then the back pad has a
- 5:47whole bunch of different angles. Up and down I bet, right?
- 5:50There's incline. Incline.
- 5:51And decline exactly right and you can do a full decline.
- 5:55We also decided to get the add on foot catch, which enables you
- 6:00to then do abdominal work at various angles.
- 6:02It's insanely cool. And then like I said, I cannot
- 6:06stress there is no wobble at all.
- 6:08This thing feels it's like built like a tank.
- 6:11Literally. You sit on this thing, you lean
- 6:13back, you're not going anywhere and the pad is very grippy.
- 6:16So you feel secure even if you have to kind of like move a
- 6:19little when you're in getting in position to lift, you know you
- 6:22want to get your shoulder blades in behind.
- 6:24You're you feel secure the entire time.
- 6:26It is grippy as hell and and I just can't say enough good
- 6:29things about it. We went with the orange
- 6:32colorway, which is another cool thing.
- 6:34There's like 12 different colorways you can select with
- 6:36Rogue 1212 different ones. Yeah, and it has.
- 6:40Made to order. And the wheels are silent.
- 6:43You know how sometimes things can sort of squeak?
- 6:45Yeah. When you're moving them around?
- 6:47These are silent. This is like a Tesla.
- 6:49It's like an electric car. You can come.
- 6:51Here at you, Yeah, it's coming at you in the water.
- 6:53It's a manta ray searching for its prey.
- 6:55There it is. It needs to live up to its name,
- 6:57and I'm glad that it does. I do have a question because
- 7:00yes. And when I bought my adjustable
- 7:02bench a few years ago, it's not that I'm trying to think what
- 7:04the name of it is. I'm trying to glance at it.
- 7:06So the, the rogue manta ray, the thing that always irked me and I
- 7:10spent a lot of time looking and I know you, you did too.
- 7:12So I know the answer to this. You want to make sure when
- 7:14you've got that, whatever the height in the is, the position
- 7:17that that seat is snug against it.
- 7:19So there's no gap because that when you lean back, I find that
- 7:22that's, it's almost like your back is in the gap.
- 7:25And so you don't want gap. And I bet you have 0 gap.
- 7:28It's pretty close to 0. It's like less than one inch,
- 7:30and you cannot feel it when it's, Yeah, when you get it all
- 7:34the ways, you know, sitting up, like if you're doing Arnold
- 7:36presses or supported shoulder presses, you don't feel
- 7:39anything. And I agree with you.
- 7:40That's a very annoying thing about a lot of benches is that
- 7:43gap, especially when you're lying down, you can feel it and
- 7:46it kind of throws you off a little bit.
- 7:48It's also adds to like. It also provides a bit of wobble
- 7:51because you're not all that stable if you have a gap that's
- 7:54too large. True, yes.
- 7:56Anyway, what can I say? Rogue, if you're going to, you
- 7:58know, invest in some home gym equipment, Rogue is the best.
- 8:01I did a lot of research. This particular bench is there
- 8:04top of the line. It's it is expensive, but I'm
- 8:07telling you right now it will be the last bench that you're ever
- 8:10going to purchase. It's certainly the last one we
- 8:12will ever buy. It's OK.
- 8:14Incredible. I know you.
- 8:15Weren't You can store it upright, it has pads.
- 8:17You can store it upright and the pads do not damage your floor.
- 8:21They thought of everything. There's nothing that you need to
- 8:23do here. Is that your choice of storage
- 8:25upright or as it comes laid down?
- 8:28What's your preferred? It's laid down because when
- 8:30Linda's working in on her Zoom calls, she doesn't necessarily
- 8:33want to see a bench in her background, right?
- 8:35But if it were me, I would absolutely have it.
- 8:38In fact, you know, maybe in a future show you will see it
- 8:41displayed that way. But I'm telling you, it's very
- 8:44easy to maneuver, even though it is 140 lbs because the the
- 8:48handle is welded into the front. So it's very simple.
- 8:50And all the weight is in the back.
- 8:52So when you lift it up, you're not straining, you lift.
- 8:54That's important. Yeah.
- 8:55And the higher it is, obviously the easier it is to maneuver.
- 8:58It can't say enough good things. It's.
- 8:59Like a workout companion. It it is.
- 9:03I know you're not set up for this, I know you weren't
- 9:04planning for this, but is there any way that if you were to
- 9:07shimmy out of the shot for a minute like you did?
- 9:09I don't think you can really see it from here.
- 9:11Can you see? I can show you the fortune of
- 9:12it. I can show.
- 9:13You to see the foot catch and I think all of our audience would
- 9:16love to see the foot catch. OK, let me show you the foot.
- 9:18Catch. It's like a tease.
- 9:19Barry Nixon, ladies and gentlemen, getting the foot
- 9:21catch to his new manta ray bench from Rogue.
- 9:24Look at that thing. That is a beautiful foot catch.
- 9:27That's for all your feet needs scooping up, plugs in, snaps
- 9:30right in there. That's a foot catch.
- 9:33That's what you're going to want.
- 9:34That's what you're going to have available at Rogue shop.
- 9:37Now you can put in your credit card.
- 9:39We will take 3 easy. Oh, no, wait, That's we're not
- 9:41the we're not the Home Shopping Network at all.
- 9:43That was an incredible foot catch.
- 9:44I could see our ratings going through the roof as we were
- 9:46doing it and we pre record. So that's something.
- 9:48It really is everything made in the USA.
- 9:50That's the other cool thing about Rogue.
- 9:52This is not anything manufactured overseas.
- 9:54This is made with American know how.
- 9:56One thing they know is weight benches.
- 9:58I'm telling you right now, an amazing use of money and I can't
- 10:01wait for more gains to now be unleashed and they.
- 10:03Take your word for it. Yeah, I'll take your word for
- 10:05it. And if I may raise a glass in
- 10:08your honor and in the honor of your manta ray, I assume you're
- 10:13going with the bearface? I'm sticking with the bearface
- 10:16100%. And I got the sheepdog, both
- 10:18animals in this case, for our shots.
- 10:20That's a theme for this episode. Sure is.
- 10:24Cheers, Jay. Cheers.
- 10:28Oh, notes, notes everywhere. Yeah.
- 10:32That was like, I want Carmel for me, a bit of a.
- 10:35You don't like caramel, do you? I don't mind it, but I'm not
- 10:38when I'm expecting peanut butter whiskey.
- 10:40But that's fine. It it is, as I said, more of a
- 10:42liqueur. Tell me what note you were
- 10:43getting there, because that was something.
- 10:45Yeah, the, you know how I usually like to have a frozen
- 10:48shot glass? Well, now that one kind of
- 10:49warmed up a touch, so it was a little warmer going down, but
- 10:52not in an offensive way at all. It was just nice.
- 10:55But it was a touch warmer. So that gives you a little bit
- 10:57more heat, a little bit more sweet, basically everything you
- 11:00want and nothing you don't. All right, very.
- 11:03I'm all over it. You brought something into the
- 11:06into The Newsroom for to kick off Season 6.
- 11:09That was your manta ray bench. Can I talk about something that
- 11:11came into the mini mansion recently that I'm pretty excited
- 11:13about and I'm going to do a little bit of a setup on this
- 11:15one? Because.
- 11:17One of my favorite you, you know, all of my favorite comic
- 11:20book artists. You could probably name them all
- 11:22because we're that close. Yeah.
- 11:24I'm going to give you a name. I'm going to give you a name.
- 11:26It will surprise nobody who is a comic book fan because this
- 11:29person is not. He's not a somebody I haven't,
- 11:31you know, I've just discovered it's somebody that's an icon in
- 11:34the comic book industry. His name is Jim Lee, probably
- 11:36one of the most popular commercial artists.
- 11:38He broke out in the 80s. I got his start on on the
- 11:41Punisher, War Journal, Alpha Flight, some other books before
- 11:44that really came into his own on X-Men.
- 11:47In fact, as your eyes glaze over the X-Men cartoon show of the
- 11:5190s, you're familiar with that at least sort of.
- 11:53OK, they're based on his design. That's just how popular there he
- 11:56was, went off, started Image Comics with a bunch of other
- 11:59Image founders, then went to DC and he is now the publisher at
- 12:03DC Comics. So he's very successful on the
- 12:07in the kind of the boardroom, you know, side of it as well.
- 12:10Wasn't in two. Do you have any questions before
- 12:12we? Is he still drawing or is he
- 12:14just leaving DC? Yeah, yeah.
- 12:16No, he's leaving DC and he draws.
- 12:18I think DC hangs on to him because they know they've got a
- 12:21bankable star. Yeah.
- 12:24Getting a little, you know, he's getting older, obviously he
- 12:26started in the 80s and he, I would say his newer artwork is a
- 12:30little looser. Comic book artists are kind of
- 12:33like sports, you know, players in that regard.
- 12:36You kind of have your peak and then you kind of come down.
- 12:39You think maybe practice gets better and better and better.
- 12:41I just think as you get more seasoned, you want your style to
- 12:45change. Maybe you, you know, just become
- 12:47a little looser and stuff you don't put as much detail in.
- 12:50It becomes harder to see, you know drawing consistently for
- 12:53hours and hours on end can impact you.
- 12:56Are they still hand drawing these comics though?
- 12:58You've been in today, Yeah. Yeah, a lot of artists also now
- 13:02draw on iPads or on a tool called the Cintiq, which is it
- 13:07does a digital drawing, but they'll still use like, like,
- 13:11you know, Maple pencils and things like that to draw.
- 13:14OK, Jim Lee, for as far as I know, still uses regular paper
- 13:19to draw on. Anyway, he came out in 2002.
- 13:22One of his first works at DC Comics was a run on Batman and
- 13:27it was called Hush and this was a 12 issue run.
- 13:31Really great series that they put together.
- 13:34In fact, the reason it's so it's talked about now is because he's
- 13:37just come out with Hush 2. So this is what's happening
- 13:40right now, Hush 2. Now why they didn't make the two
- 13:44the backwards SI don't know why they put the two over EU.
- 13:47As a marketing guy I say that's probably a bit of a fail.
- 13:50They could have worked that logo a little better.
- 13:53I purchased the original run of Hush as 12 issues in 2000 and
- 13:58two 2310 years later I repurchased it as Hush
- 14:04unwrapped. Which is the a version of it
- 14:07with no colors so just pencils so you get pure unfiltered.
- 14:13Artwork. From which is kind of neat and
- 14:16then what just came to the mini mansion.
- 14:18Barry, I'll show you the so we've got the the unwrapped.
- 14:21Look at this baby. Wow, that's your Hush Absolute
- 14:25edition. A gigantic absolute edition
- 14:29featuring all of the eye popping artwork in a slip case, by the
- 14:33way. Yeah, that's a slip case.
- 14:35Slip case. Look at that thing.
- 14:37Look at those, look at Catwoman, does she ever look better?
- 14:40He always draws very sexy ladies, very attractive men.
- 14:43He knows exactly what you're looking for when you're looking
- 14:45for when you're looking for stuff.
- 14:47So we got Batman, we got all kinds of things.
- 14:49Anyway, I'm very excited this arrived.
- 14:51It's almost 25 years old. This storyline really cool.
- 14:55Happy to have any Gimli art that is.
- 14:59It's just something that I enjoy.
- 15:00Kind of takes me back to where I was when I was first buying it
- 15:02in the early 2000s. So Batman Hush Salute Edition by
- 15:06Jim Lee, written by Jeff Loeb, a very popular writer,
- 15:09particularly at that time. He went on to lead Marvel
- 15:12television. So he led a lot of the Netflix
- 15:15series, the Daredevil series that came out in the kind of 20.
- 15:19So Barry, that's what I wanted to tell you about that came to
- 15:22the mini mansion. I'm very excited for all of our
- 15:24listeners and viewers that are interested in comics.
- 15:26Yeah. You might want to pick up Hush
- 15:28in Absolute edition. And you can bet that even though
- 15:30I'm not going to collect all of Hush too, I just bought the
- 15:33first couple issues in single issue format.
- 15:35I will be buying the Absolute edition when that comes out,
- 15:38probably the next. Year and what's the retail on
- 15:41the absolute edition just for our viewers?
- 15:43I did a pre-order on Amazon and I got it for I'm going to say it
- 15:46was about $120.00 so probably sells for about 150 bucks.
- 15:51I'm not sure exactly what that is, but I did a pre-order.
- 15:54So it was, I purchased it back in February.
- 15:56So, you know, you buy it a long time ago.
- 15:58It's kind of like it's free February you forget.
- 16:01Yeah. And then it it's a pre-order.
- 16:02Yeah, but damn that's a pretty long window for a pre-order.
- 16:05I like that. They announced comics, they got
- 16:07on it. Quick.
- 16:07Yeah, pretty early. They'll announce comics because
- 16:10they've got to go to a print run.
- 16:11So they want to, I think, get a gauge of what the orders are
- 16:13going to be like before they do their print run of it and commit
- 16:15to papers. Yeah, sure.
- 16:17Yeah, so I did that and it arrived just about a week ago.
- 16:21And I got far. Are you into it?
- 16:24I haven't started it yet. I'm still reading some other
- 16:26books. I'm reading a Spawn that I've
- 16:28got around that size. I think I may have shown that on
- 16:30the show before the Spawn Origins Deluxe issue.
- 16:34I'm on volume #6 so it takes me a while to get through these.
- 16:37As you know, I like to savor these types of things, but
- 16:41that's what I got. Beautiful.
- 16:44Yeah. Any other questions about Jimmy?
- 16:46Would you like to borrow some of these issues maybe at some
- 16:48point? I know you're not much of A
- 16:49reader. Yeah, I'm not.
- 16:51I'm not much of A reader. And that's, that's OK.
- 16:53You can read for the both of us, Jay.
- 16:55OK, great. I believe that you believe that
- 16:57you will do that and thank you for sharing that with everybody.
- 17:02That's pretty cool. I'm happy to.
- 17:03We got plenty more coming up of our favorite things this coming
- 17:07season. In season 6, we got a lots of
- 17:10exciting things around the corner.
- 17:11We've got movie reviews. We've got everything you've come
- 17:14to expect from two Shot Tuesday. We've got a format and I think
- 17:18our listeners and our viewers, whether this is your sixth
- 17:21season with us, whether you're just joining us for the first
- 17:23time, I think you'll find something that you enjoy.
- 17:25Yeah, and we do appreciate you being with us each and every
- 17:27week. And Jay, you're absolutely
- 17:29right. I can tease it because we have
- 17:31the tickets already. Predator Badlands.
- 17:33We will be welcoming back our movie guy Rob Peetz to discuss
- 17:36that. Yep.
- 17:37In a future episode. Yeah, so if you're on the fence
- 17:39about that one, check out this review and you'll be able to
