Transcript
- 0:10Hello and welcome. You're listening to Galaxy
- 0:13Crashes, the Busted and McFly podcast.
- 0:16The only podcast where the worlds of Busted and McFly crash
- 0:20together. Hosted by us 2 mums who live by
- 0:23the motto that it's not just a phase.
- 0:26I'm sham. And I'm Tay, and coming up
- 0:29today, we're heading straight back to the early 2000s again
- 0:32for awkward crushes, teen drama and obsessing over TV shows.
- 0:37Oh yeah, because today we're talking about the Busted song,
- 0:40inspired by one of the most dramatic TV shows ever, Dawson's
- 0:45Geek. Dawson's Geek If you were alive
- 0:47in the noughties, you'd probably remember staying up too late to
- 0:51watch those teen dramas, becoming very emotionally
- 0:54invested in fictional characters and pretending like their lives
- 0:57are basically your own. Because that's what we all did
- 0:59back then, right? Yeah.
- 1:01Oh, I still do. Let's be honest, most of us
- 1:04probably had at least one slightly embarrassing TV crash.
- 1:09Oh yes, and we're going to get, we're going to get to that a
- 1:11little bit later on. We've already, we've already had
- 1:13arguments about this, but even before starting today's episode.
- 1:16So you know, it's going to be an interesting section.
- 1:18So make sure you stick around for that.
- 1:19Today we are diving straight into Busted's Dawson's Geek,
- 1:23talking about naughties TV culture and revisiting that era
- 1:26where every show had the most dramatic love triangle
- 1:29imaginable. Exactly.
- 1:32Before we get into all that though, how has your week been?
- 1:35Oh yes, our weekly catch up. I feel like I haven't spoken too
- 1:38much this week actually. We've been quite busy, haven't
- 1:40we? And I know you've had a lot
- 1:41going on and we've been trying to keep up with socials and
- 1:44whatnot. So we've just sort of been like
- 1:47passing boats in the night on voice note chats.
- 1:50It's pretty much how we speak to each other.
- 1:52It's just over voice notes, which is really funny because I
- 1:54speak to you every day, but we always speak on voice notes.
- 1:57I never actually speak to you on the phone.
- 1:59And it's like you'll send me one in the morning.
- 2:02Yeah, yeah, yeah. Exactly.
- 2:03Then I'll answer it after work, and then you'll answer it in the
- 2:06morning and then I'll answer it after work.
- 2:09Literally, and I literally, I've spoke to you on the phone twice
- 2:11today and it's been really lovely just to have a quick chat
- 2:13with you on the phone. Not that it was an interesting
- 2:16chat, but you know, it's all good.
- 2:19My week's. Yeah, yeah, my week's been OK.
- 2:22It's not been the best. Molly's not been very well
- 2:24blessed her. She's had a sickness bug we
- 2:27think might be a bug. We're not really sure, there's
- 2:30so much going around at her nursery so it could have been a
- 2:32bug, but it seems to be after every time she's had like a
- 2:35bottle like milk. So we've swapped her onto Soya
- 2:38and she's been fine. This evening she's gone down
- 2:40absolutely fine, like a dream, and only had that soy milk.
- 2:44So we're hoping we've found the root of the problem.
- 2:46But yeah, that's not fun when your child is sick everywhere.
- 2:50Like, honest to God, five different places.
- 2:53The last one last night I got in the toilet.
- 2:56I could, I noticed that she was going to be sick.
- 2:58I was like, like, she just went really pale.
- 3:00And then she started really crying out of nowhere and I just
- 3:04ran her to the bathroom. Bless her.
- 3:06Oh, it was awful. I've had it on the rug, I've had
- 3:09it on the sofa. I had it in her bed.
- 3:11I had it in the car, see, it was just, it's been, it's been a
- 3:14rough week. But other than that, we did go
- 3:19for a nice beach walk this morning, which was really,
- 3:21really lovely. Went to poor truth with a dog.
- 3:23And yesterday we did another beach walk.
- 3:24We went to Mara's iron. So we've had a nice couple of
- 3:27dry days as well, which is always nice.
- 3:29You know, when they're feeling a bit minion and you just want to
- 3:30be outside, try and like blow the cobwebs away and like tyre
- 3:34them out so that they're ready for bed.
- 3:35So I'm hoping she slept in bed with me last night all night.
- 3:39She was awake at 2:00 AM for two hours just eating digestive
- 3:43biscuits and watching Peppa Pig. Like, seriously, she woke up and
- 3:48she was like, I want milk. And I was like, if you have
- 3:51milk, you're going to feel sick because that's what's making
- 3:53your belly hurt. And she was like, I want a
- 3:55biscuit. Then I was like, you have a
- 3:58biscuit. She blessed her.
- 3:59She was so hungry because she hadn't eaten all day and then
- 4:02she hadn't drank her milk, so she was really hungry.
- 4:05So I let her sit up and eat 2 digestive biscuits.
- 4:07Watching Peppa Pig at 2, AMI was not in any state of mind to be
- 4:11arguing with her. At 2, AMI was like whatever you
- 4:13want my babe, whatever you want, you want Peppa Pig and I don't
- 4:17do Peppa Pig. So, you know, I'm definitely
- 4:20feeling, I'm feeling it if I'm putting Peppa Pig on.
- 4:24But yes, it's been, it's been up and down.
- 4:26But yeah, a bit of a, a bit of a crappy couple of days, but it's
- 4:29fine. We're pushing through.
- 4:31My husband's been away this weekend as well.
- 4:33So I've been solo parenting on it on that end of things too.
- 4:38Thank you very much. It's all fun and games.
- 4:40I know you do it a lot too with your other half's.
- 4:42Working patterns are quite difficult, aren't they?
- 4:44So it's not fun, but we manage, we manage, we push through.
- 4:47How's your week been? Yeah, it's been all right.
- 4:50It's been World Book Day, which was fun.
- 4:52This is my first World Book Day as a teacher not.
- 4:54Realising that. We had to didn't realise where
- 4:57to dress up so that. Was fun.
- 4:58Oh my God, what? That's the best?
- 5:00It's the best day of the whole year as a teacher.
- 5:03Yeah, but I wish I knew that like more than a week before so
- 5:05I could have had a decent costume.
- 5:07I ended up just like ordering a Cat in the Hat costume, and let
- 5:10me tell you, it was probably not made for somebody that works in
- 5:14a school. Oh no, is it like a slutty cat
- 5:17in the hat? Like, a little bit, like, it was
- 5:20short. I put some, like, black tights
- 5:23underneath in like, although I'm not sure what kind of like, you
- 5:28do you, Boo. But also, like, the hat was so
- 5:32big. There's no way of making that
- 5:33look, like, sexy in any way. So I'm not really sure.
- 5:36It was like, it was like, half. Well, book day half.
- 5:40How's your father? Do you know what I mean?
- 5:42Yeah. Yeah, it was.
- 5:46I was, I felt a little bit inappropriate, I'm not going to
- 5:48lie. I ended up most of the day
- 5:50having the hat off and just holding it to like hide my legs.
- 5:54Do you know what you should have dressed the girls up as?
- 5:57Thing One and Thing 2. Thing one and thing two.
- 5:59Why did you not do that? No.
- 6:01Because I didn't think that I had to dress up.
- 6:04Oh yeah, true. So funny.
- 6:06Funny story. Tamara actually dressed up as
- 6:08the Cat in the Hat as well. Oh nice, I bet she took her
- 6:12outfit was better than mine. I only saw a lot of her face.
- 6:16She did look quite good. To be fair she's quite good at
- 6:18at well booked day costumes as are tomorrow.
- 6:20She's been teaching a long time though, so she was probably more
- 6:22prepared. Well, next year I'm going to go,
- 6:25I'm going to like books are my thing.
- 6:28So I felt a little bit embarrassed almost.
- 6:31Yeah, I thought you would love dressed this day.
- 6:33Yeah, right. I normally I would, I do, but I
- 6:36just didn't realise I was going to dress up or someone as
- 6:39Hermione. But like we, we love a niche
- 6:42reference in our house, so she went.
- 6:45Reference I was very pleased. Yeah, she won this Hermione in
- 6:49cat form. I saw the picture and I was
- 6:52like, I know exactly who you are and what stage of the book you
- 6:55are as well. Honestly, she loved it.
- 6:59She absolutely. And she, she loved explaining to
- 7:01people when people were like, why are you wearing wrists?
- 7:04Why are you wearing ears? You obviously haven't read it if
- 7:07you don't know why I'm a cat. Yeah, exactly.
- 7:11I love that for. Her, yeah.
- 7:12And then and then Ari just went as Goldilocks because I can't
- 7:15put in a like I can't put in effort for both of them.
- 7:20One or the other. One or the other.
- 7:23That's so cute. Yeah, so so we have our book day
- 7:26and we had a sick day this week, actually, because our it was
- 7:29slightly under the weather. And you know when you just know
- 7:31that your kid isn't OK? Like, yeah, she probably could
- 7:34have gone into school, but she wasn't.
- 7:36She was an Aria. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 7:39And I also had that like little feeling that like school are
- 7:41probably going to send her home anyway, so.
- 7:43And then it's even more awkward because you've got to leave the
- 7:46middle of the day. At least when you don't go in,
- 7:48they know that you're not going to be.
- 7:49In exactly Yeah, yeah, exactly. And to be honest, to be real
- 7:52with you, I've had a bit of a shit mental health week this
- 7:54week as well. So I think we both needed it
- 7:57just to have like a bit of a. A day of.
- 7:59Reset. Yeah, it was well needed and
- 8:03also I I just desperately need the weather to brighten up.
- 8:06I don't know about you, but we've had literally 3 nice days
- 8:09this whole year. I do not want to wear my coat
- 8:12anymore. I am so fed up of wearing my
- 8:15coat. Did you see, talking of not
- 8:16wearing a coat, did you see Dougie's little, you know, his
- 8:20like drink, his walking around London where he goes?
- 8:22To like an alcoholic. Drink.
- 8:24And he was like, I'm not wearing a coat.
- 8:25And I was like, yes, yeah. I don't want to see my coat now
- 8:30until October. I do not want to hate it.
- 8:33October. Not a fan, not a fan of this
- 8:36weather. But the last two days the
- 8:39afternoons have been a bit like grizzly and like just a bit
- 8:42overcast and minging. But the both the mornings this
- 8:44weekend have been well, yesterday and today have been
- 8:47really lovely because obviously I was off of work yesterday
- 8:50because I was looking after Marley because she was sick on
- 8:53Thursday for the first time and then obviously she.
- 8:55Can't. Go into nursery for 48 hours.
- 8:58So she's now home with me yesterday so to take the day off
- 9:01work. So we but then she's she felt
- 9:04fine. So I took her to the beach and
- 9:06got her out and and it was really lovely in the morning and
- 9:09again the same this morning as well.
- 9:11So I'm so up for it. It's making me feel like summer,
- 9:13like I can already picture myself getting in the sea again.
- 9:18Yeah. I'm like tomorrow is my one day
- 9:20where I'm like, it needs to be nice.
- 9:22I'm going on my first. I know I did say a couple of
- 9:25episodes ago, maybe last episode, I'm not going to shut
- 9:29up about the fact that I'm Harry Judd now.
- 9:30On that I ran. Tomorrow.
- 9:32I'm going on my yeah, I'm going on my first like proper.
- 9:36I want to say like excursion, but that's not the right word.
- 9:38Like I'm going out out to run tomorrow.
- 9:41I'm going to darts farm. It's like it's like a really
- 9:47nice path. It's like 10K.
- 9:52So me and my friend are going to go to the middle of the path and
- 9:56then we're going to run all the way back to Darts Farm and we
- 9:59are going to then go for a coffee.
- 10:01So I want to, I really want it to be, I want, I really want it
- 10:06to be nice tomorrow because I want to enjoy going out to run
- 10:10and not just running in my comfort zone.
- 10:12Do you know what I mean? Yeah, yeah.
- 10:14Do you want the bad news or the bad news?
- 10:17Oh no, is it really awful? Mist and fog and 40 percent, 50%
- 10:24chance of rain in Honiton tomorrow.
- 10:27Oh, thanks. And the same at home.
- 10:30Yeah, so. I'm in Tottenham, so it doesn't.
- 10:33It doesn't. Change.
- 10:33Is that any different? 11 My sunny cloud I'm.
- 10:39Not sure it's going to make much difference, but yeah, not ideal.
- 10:43Well, can't agree. Yeah, we can't have it.
- 10:46We can just. You can imagine it's yeah, it's
- 10:49it's raining. Love.
- 10:54That great. Oh dear.
- 10:55I mean, we've we've, we should be used to it.
- 10:57It's it's March and it has rained nearly every single day
- 11:00since Christmas. So, you know, we should be.
- 11:03No, but I just I feel like I'm living in.
- 11:05Where is it that they live in Twilight Forks?
- 11:09Forks where it rains how you like in the rain girl, how you.
- 11:13Like in the Rain Girl. I'm not going to lie, I quote
- 11:20that at least once a week. How you like in the rain, girl?
- 11:25I love that for you. I feel like if you quoted that
- 11:27to me, I'd probably give you a hug every time you did it
- 11:29because it's a nice. Memory So this is a very off
- 11:33topic, but this year I introduced Bradley to Twilight
- 11:36and often I'll say, what's the line?
- 11:40Loca, what's it? What's the line?
- 11:43No, it's completely gone. I can't.
- 11:44Remember. But I know it's Mike, isn't it?
- 11:46Is it Mike that says it? The blonde.
- 11:49Yeah, I think yeah. Is that Mike?
- 11:51No, Mike's Mike says hey, Arizona, how you like in the
- 11:54rain, girl? But.
- 11:55Yeah, yeah, yeah. Does he not say loca?
- 11:57Oh, is it Eric? It's no Loca is Loca is I want
- 12:04to say I want to say Jackson then.
- 12:09Oh my God, I sound like a fake fan.
- 12:12Edward and Jacob. Jacob is Jacob.
- 12:15Jacob. Oh, is it?
- 12:16Oh, God, is he actually called her that?
- 12:21Hey, Jay, what's up? Oh, he can call me.
- 12:26To be fair, he could call me whatever the fuck he liked.
- 12:28I wouldn't mind. Whatever he likes.
- 12:31Hey, Arizona. I'll be I'll be your loca.
- 12:34I'll be your loca. Taylor Taylor Loca.
- 12:37Loca. Oh dear.
- 12:40Anyway, how are you on Twilight? Hold on tight, spider monkey.
- 12:47We've literally done 15 minute introduction and we're just
- 12:50talking about bloody twilight for God's sake.
- 12:51People are going to be turning this off We promise.
- 12:53We are a Busted and McFly podcast.
- 12:57Just about the spider monkey as well, you know.
- 12:59Yeah, please stick around. We will get there.
- 13:02We promise it's time for this or that, and this week we've chosen
- 13:10a bit of a naughty slash TV edition to go along with the
- 13:14song of the week, Dawson's Geek. So Shannon, you're going to go
- 13:17first because I think you've got one more than me this week.
- 13:20We've actually got a couple for each other, so you're going to
- 13:21go first this week. Yes.
- 13:23OK, So my first one for you is were you a Bratz girl or a
- 13:31Barbie girl? I was a Barbie girl through and
- 13:34through. Love me a Barbie.
- 13:36Oh my God. I had the Barbie Dream House
- 13:39with the lift, you know, the little lift that you put them
- 13:41in. Oh my God, I loved it.
- 13:42It was great. And I had all of the Spice Girls
- 13:45Barbies. I think it was probably
- 13:48secondhand, probably came from the car boot.
- 13:52I had all of like the Spice Girls Barbies as well, and they
- 13:55were like my favourite thing in the whole world.
- 13:57I can remember them like they were yesterday.
- 13:59So yeah, definitely brats for me.
- 14:01Sorry. Definitely Barbie for me.
- 14:03I was brats. Oh, OK, we're.
- 14:07We're so I loved the Barbie movies, right?
- 14:11I Barbie and The Nutcracker was like my jam.
- 14:16I used to have all of those movies on video.
- 14:20Oh. Really.
- 14:22However, brats was my I. I would dream about having
- 14:28brats. I had Barbies.
- 14:30All I wanted was brat styles. All my friends had brat styles.
- 14:32And then I think I got a Jade Bratz doll and it changed my
- 14:36life. My Barbies were like, see you,
- 14:39let's see you later. You're in the bin.
- 14:40Actually, they didn't go in the bin.
- 14:41I'll tell you what you used to do with them.
- 14:43I used to take all their clothes off to my brother.
- 14:49Save their save their clothes for your Bratz dolls.
- 14:52But it just ended up sounding a bit weird because I was like,
- 14:54take all my clothes off. I just left it.
- 14:58I used to give them to my brother and say can you can use
- 15:00these as wrestlers? Brilliant because I don't want
- 15:03them anymore. I've got my wrestles.
- 15:05Oh, I definitely was a Barbie girl Barbie girl.
- 15:09OK, mine for you and I think I already know this answer because
- 15:12I saw on your saw this on your story this week.
- 15:15It is one tree hell or the OC. I don't want.
- 15:24To be anything. One Tree Hill through and
- 15:27through. Peyton, you are the love of my
- 15:31life. Do you know what?
- 15:32I always start as a Peyton fan and then I end up loving Brooke
- 15:35so much that I just want to be her.
- 15:38I just think she's awesome. I love Brooke.
- 15:41She is cool, but I was so Peyton.
- 15:43It was, this is going to sound so like I want to be really
- 15:48cool, but like it was. It was nice to see someone like
- 15:52Peyton on a show like that because that was me.
- 15:56Oh, yeah, like the way she wasn't popular and like, yeah,
- 16:00she listens to rock music and like, she's a bit weird, isn't
- 16:03she? Yeah, yeah, yeah, I love her.
- 16:05Definitely. I that's why I was like that at
- 16:08the beginning. I really loved her at the
- 16:09beginning. But I think the more you see of
- 16:11Brooke, the more like she grows up, the more I saw myself.
- 16:15In her SO. Much obviously I wasn't very
- 16:17much like when in the first few seasons I wasn't really like I
- 16:21didn't vibe with her because obviously she's a bit of a
- 16:22bratty kind of gal, wasn't she? But I think she just becomes
- 16:25such an amazing character. Love Brooke.
- 16:28I did watch the OCI, definitely did watch the.
- 16:31OC. Oh see I did.
- 16:34Ryan was my was always my favourite.
- 16:36I don't remember much about it though.
- 16:39I can like remember watching it, but I don't remember loads of
- 16:42it. I feel like I watched it when it
- 16:45was on telly but I didn't follow it.
- 16:47Do you know what I mean? So I feel like I've seen a few
- 16:50episodes, but I don't think I like went out my way to watch
- 16:53it. Yeah, yeah, I get you.
- 16:55I get you. OK, cool.
- 16:57So we're both wandering hill girls and we've both recently
- 16:59started bingeing it again, so that's great.
- 17:01We'll be talking about that every week.
- 17:03Thank you, Netflix. Netflix, my next question for
- 17:07you, my Nexus or that was and this is this actually genuinely
- 17:11hard for me. Disney Channel TV shows.
- 17:15So like your Hannah Montana, your Lizzie McGuire, your Phil
- 17:21of the Future, those TV shows or Disney Channel movies.
- 17:28So I actually never had the Disney Channel growing up.
- 17:34We didn't have it in my house. Yeah, we didn't have like
- 17:38whatever it was that people had that had the Disney Channel on
- 17:41some sort of cable or something. We just had like the normal.
- 17:44Yeah, we didn't have Sky. We had like the normal Freeview
- 17:47channels. But my nan and my dad in Bristol
- 17:51had all of the channels. So whenever I was up there, I
- 17:54was absolutely loving life because I could watch
- 17:56everything. I feel like I was probably more
- 18:00of a Disney Channel movies girl overall because obviously at
- 18:03home I couldn't watch the TV shows, but the movies you could
- 18:07watch on other things if that made sense.
- 18:10But I feel like I binge to the TV shows more because I'd watch
- 18:14them when I was in Bristol with my nan.
- 18:17So Lizzie Mcguire's and like the Hannah Montana side of things
- 18:21were definitely more in the holidays, whereas the Disney
- 18:24Channel movies were more like of a reoccurring thing every week,
- 18:27if that made sense. Nice.
- 18:29I feel like you're ATV show. I think I am ATV show.
- 18:33However I will say that I loved the holidays where I could watch
- 18:40the movies and they used to do like a behind the scenes thing
- 18:44for the movies. Like I actually went out of my
- 18:47way to watch that, whereas I would just watch the TV shows
- 18:51whenever I was allowed to watch the telly.
- 18:53Do you know what I mean? Yeah, yeah.
- 18:54Yeah, also, if you genuinely, I go on and on about how much I
- 18:59love Hannah Montana, right? But if you gave me a this or
- 19:02that, which I'm telling you now, you're not allowed to do of this
- 19:06or that or Tracy Beaker. Tracy Beaker would win every
- 19:09time. Oh my.
- 19:10God, I loved Tracy Beaker. I loved Tracy Beaker.
- 19:13I was a big CBBC girl because obviously I didn't have the sky.
- 19:16That's what I mean. CBBC, like that's So Raven.
- 19:20I used to love that So Raven. Was that on Disney or was that
- 19:22on CBBCI? Can't remember.
- 19:24That's So Raven was on Disney. Yeah, I remember watching that
- 19:28at my Nan's. That was massive.
- 19:30I used to love Tracy Beaker. I used to watch the Queen's nose
- 19:34and like. Bernard's Oh my goodness.
- 19:36Do you remember Nose Bernard's watcher?
- 19:39He could pause time. Oh my God, brilliant.
- 19:43Did you ever watch like Raven? Do you remember Raven?
- 19:46Yeah, the with the guy that dressed up like a crow.
- 19:50I had an abnormal crush on that bloke, I swear down.
- 19:54Oh my goodness. I had a proper crush on him.
- 19:58So strange. So strange.
- 20:00Yeah, but there you. Go.
- 20:01So I would probably say, I think I would say TV shows because I
- 20:05was more of a TV show girl. But when I had the chance to
- 20:08watch the movies, you bet, yeah. I was like taking time out of my
- 20:12life to watch them, and I think I've watched all of them.
- 20:17You could quote any Disney Channel TV movie to me and I'd
- 20:20be able to guess what it's actually.
- 20:22I'm not going to say that because you'll probably put that
- 20:24in a quiz somewhere. Yeah, I'll do a quiz and you'll
- 20:26get 0. I retract everything I just
- 20:29said. Oh, dear.
- 20:31OK, next one. It's not, it's not Tracy Beaker
- 20:34versus Hannah Montana, but it is Lizzie McGuire versus that.
- 20:38So Raven. That's a really tough one in the
- 20:43future I can see. Do you remember they used to
- 20:47have? There was also the spin off
- 20:49Corey in the house. Oh yeah, I never watched that
- 20:52though. Oh so good, Sorry.
- 20:57This is actually an easy one for me, you know.
- 20:59Oh. I love that So Raven.
- 21:04I think the the stare at the camera is fucking iconic when
- 21:09she's about to have a vision. So good of the no tease as well.
- 21:12Like that era breaking the 4th wall.
- 21:15Breaking the 4th wall, Yeah, but what I will say is Lizzie
- 21:18McGuire, she's just one of AI wanted to be her so bad.
- 21:26I think not just I think it was like, now this is going to sound
- 21:33so bizarre coming from 2026, but it's very experimental back
- 21:38then, like the cartoon, the little cartoon bits in between
- 21:43that were like her in a dialogue.
- 21:45You didn't really see that like the mix between cartoon and real
- 21:49TV. Yeah.
- 21:51Definitely. I loved it.
- 21:53It was phenomenal. And Gordo was like, I used to
- 21:58scream at the TV like Lizzie, see what you're missing?
- 22:01Yeah, I loved Gordo, he was so good.
- 22:03I definitely agree. Lizzie McGuire holds like a very
- 22:07special place in my heart. I don't know what I think the
- 22:09movie of it as well. Like is just something else,
- 22:13isn't it? The TV show was good, but the
- 22:14movie was just insane. I mean the same with Hannah
- 22:16Montana. The movie was definitely like
- 22:18more of me. That's why I think I went for
- 22:20Disney Channel movies. I definitely appreciated the
- 22:22movies a lot more. OK, next one.
- 22:26OK, so my next one for you is going to Blockbuster and renting
- 22:34ADVD. Right.
- 22:36Or having a browse around Woolworths.
- 22:40Oh this is so easy for me because I think now as an adult
- 22:44having a browse around B&M is like my favourite thing to do as
- 22:48a kid. Like today's Woolworths?
- 22:49I literally I used to freaking hate going shopping when I was
- 22:52younger. Like there was I hated going
- 22:55shopping with my mum. Oh my God, Shannon.
- 22:57I can remember her taking me to Asda and she would be there for
- 22:59like 3 hours. Like it would be that.
- 23:03Yeah. Now I love it now, but when I
- 23:05was younger I was like, why are we still here?
- 23:08Like there was nothing worse. I just being told no, you can't
- 23:11have anything that I picked up. I wasn't allowed anyway, So why
- 23:15am I here? Why have you brought me?
- 23:16Because you don't need my opinion on any of this.
- 23:19So yeah, most definitely would have been renting a movie.
- 23:22We never went to Blockbuster, but we went to, there's a little
- 23:25video shop and it's still in my town.
- 23:28It's still open. It's a DVD rental shop.
- 23:30And the guy that runs it is called Mark.
- 23:32And he's so lovely and he's still, he still runs it now.
- 23:35And my. God, you need to send us
- 23:37pictures. You can go down and rent a DVD.
- 23:39It's so nostalgic going in there.
- 23:42I honestly, I freaking love it. I think it's amazing.
- 23:44I love that he's still going even despite, you know, Netflix
- 23:47and online movies and all that. He's still running his little
- 23:50business and I just love it. He's got like obviously people
- 23:52that have been going for years and years and he always gets
- 23:55like the brand new movies, like straight away, which is amazing.
- 24:00Some love for him. Oh, it's great.
- 24:02And it's like 3 lbs and you rent it for that like like the whole
- 24:05day and then the whole not you get like 24 hours and it's £3 or
- 24:08something. And we used to do that when I
- 24:10was younger and, and it's still there now.
- 24:12And I definitely did it up until like a few years ago, we were
- 24:14still sort of going down and, and getting them from him
- 24:17because, you know, if we were thinking we didn't know what to
- 24:19watch, we'd go down and speak to him and he'd give us like
- 24:22recommendations and stuff. That was the good thing about
- 24:25Blockbusters, wasn't it? Like you didn't have the
- 24:28Internet where you actually had to search.
- 24:30You could look on that. I love my answer would be the
- 24:33same. Not because I hated Woolworths,
- 24:35I bloody love Woolworths. But the trip to Blockbusters on
- 24:38a Friday night where you would get like there was like their
- 24:40very own meal deal, wasn't there, where you could like rent
- 24:43a movie and popcorn and it would be like 5 lbs.
- 24:46And I, I can still see like if I think about Blockbusters, I can
- 24:52still see the inside of the Blockbusters in my hometown.
- 24:55And it was, I used to, I used to bum Blockbusters.
- 24:59I loved it so. I used to bum blockbusters.
- 25:03It's such a 90s naughty saying you used to bum that I.
- 25:07Used to bomb blockbusters. I did, I was saying.
- 25:10That so all the time. Oh my God I bum that.
- 25:14I think, do you know, I think the worst thing about
- 25:16blockbusters was when they started bringing in CDs.
- 25:19Oh yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 25:21Weird. It's like everyone was like,
- 25:23yeah, yeah, like why am I renting a seat?
- 25:25Don't don't bring out CDs, but the DVD.
- 25:28Do you ever remember? Did you?
- 25:30Did you ever get the Lovefilm DVDs in the post?
- 25:34Oh my God, do you know that you that's Netflix now?
- 25:37Yeah, yeah, yeah. I was reading about this not
- 25:40that long ago. Me and me and my mum, we used to
- 25:42get the love films, like every week they'd send us a new one.
- 25:45I got, I only ever got one thing from I only got ever got one
- 25:49thing from Lovefilm and that was Hairspray.
- 25:53Brilliant, love that for you. You love that, you know.
- 25:56Ladies, that that's sort of Oh my God, yes, please.
- 26:00It sort of brings me on to my last This or That, which is DVD
- 26:03box sets or watching episodes weekly on the telly.
- 26:08Oh my God, this. So I almost wrote very similar
- 26:12because I was thinking, you know how at Christmas every year
- 26:18Harry Potter is on the telly? Yeah.
- 26:21And how much better it feels like.
- 26:23Well, it's good on DVD. I've got one DVD, but I'm going
- 26:26to watch it when it's on the telly and you bet you I'm going
- 26:28to sit through those ads and complain about them.
- 26:30Yeah. I could complain about the ads,
- 26:33even. Yeah, and it's on TV, so it
- 26:35makes it feel a bit more special.
- 26:38I think it's because you know that so many people are watching
- 26:40it at the same time as you as well.
- 26:42Like, I don't know why that's cool, but.
- 26:46I'm going to say probably watching episodes weekly on TVI
- 26:49used to love a good TV series where I would like and actually
- 26:56I kind of still do. When I'm watching something that
- 26:58like 1 episode's released a week, I know what I'm doing that
- 27:02day. Do you know what I mean?
- 27:05I know, like I I'm probably the only person in the whole of the
- 27:10UK that will openly admit to this, but I watch EastEnders
- 27:14still. My mum used to watch it when I
- 27:17was younger. I've now carried on because I
- 27:19know that I've got half an hour in the morning, I watch in the
- 27:21morning, got half an hour every single morning to watch it.
- 27:26In that time I've got to eat my breakfast and I've got to do my
- 27:30hair. Yeah.
- 27:31See, it's like a time. It's more like a timing thing
- 27:33for you than like a. Yeah, you're invested in it.
- 27:36I feel like it gives me like a schedule.
- 27:40Yeah. I like watching episodes weekly
- 27:42I think. OK, there you go.
- 27:45I am the complete opposite. I'm a binger like I hate and
- 27:50Jack's exactly the same and I think This is why we get on so
- 27:53well. I hate having to wait a week for
- 27:55another episode. I hate it, I hate it.
- 27:59I like to know I've got like This is why we've watched all of
- 28:02the Night of the Seven Kingdoms in two days.
- 28:05Literally 2 days. It was done and then I was like,
- 28:07Oh my God, we've finished it and now there's nothing else to
- 28:09watch and we've got to start all over again with something else.
- 28:14I've completely contradicted myself, haven't I?
- 28:15Because last week's episode I was like, oh I finished
- 28:17Bridgeton in 2 days. Yeah, literally.
- 28:20Like I'm such a binger and like it's really funny because Tash
- 28:24messaged me. For those of you that don't know
- 28:26who Tash is, please go back to our earlier episodes when she
- 28:28joined us on the pod. She is wonderful.
- 28:31She she messaged me about Love Is Blind and she said, have you
- 28:37watched a new episode of Love Is Blind?
- 28:38If you haven't, don't do it. Massive cliffhanger.
- 28:41And now all I want to do is get to next Wednesday so I could see
- 28:44the next episode. So I actually purposely like,
- 28:48didn't watch it for a while because I knew that I'd be
- 28:51annoyed that the next episode wasn't available.
- 28:53So yeah, I'm definitely a binger.
- 28:56I had all of the Friends episodes on video, and I used to
- 29:01have a shelf that went all the way around the top of my room,
- 29:04and I had videos from one side of my room to the other.
- 29:07Literally, I can remember that like it was yesterday.
- 29:09I used to love videos, had so many of them.
- 29:13My own little video player. So weird to think about VCRS
- 29:17versus. DVHS.
- 29:19Yeah, exactly. So weird.
- 29:20OK, last one then, because we are 33 minutes into this podcast
- 29:24already and we haven't even got a song of the week yet.
- 29:27I love that for us. So my last one is not really
- 29:30about TV shows or anything, but it is about the naughties.
- 29:34OK, so doodling the magic's on every book folder or like random
- 29:40piece of paper when you're at school or making the hand
- 29:45fortune teller things, you know those things.
- 29:48Above this is such a good question because actually.
- 29:51So I wrote this because I've just started teaching Autumn how
- 29:55to make them. The fortune.
- 29:56I made one for one of the kids in school this week.
- 29:59Literally my last placement. Was it Monday?
- 30:02Monday I went into school comma what day it was.
- 30:04I think it was Monday. I they literally said one of the
- 30:06kids came over to me with a piece of paper and he said,
- 30:09Miss, can you help me make a fortune teller?
- 30:10And I was like, yes, I can. Yeah.
- 30:16I love that you're still doing these.
- 30:19I'm 33 and you're still doing these and you're age 7.
- 30:22So yes, I will make your fortune teller.
- 30:25So I feel like the adult in me wants to say that.
- 30:28But equally, I drew that bloody S on everything.
- 30:34Everything. And I can remember, like,
- 30:36teaching people how to do it. Like, yeah, I don't know why I
- 30:40thought it was so cool. I think I even.
- 30:43Drew on a pair of my shoes. Oh, yeah, You're Shannon as
- 30:48well? Yeah.
- 30:49See, I don't have any SS in my name, but I would literally
- 30:51everywhere and whatever I could draw them on, I would draw them
- 30:54on. I can remember drawing them on
- 30:55my shoes, on my shoes. So yeah, definitely would have
- 31:01been would have been the magic S if you were asking younger me.
- 31:03But if you're asking older me, I would go for hand fortune
- 31:06tellers definitely. I would probably say the magic S
- 31:10because I didn't have enough friends to make the fortune
- 31:12tellers feel fun. That's really sad.
- 31:20No, I actually I loved making those hand fortune tellers, but
- 31:23I think I like overdid it and then people will like just go
- 31:27away. Brilliant, because I would do
- 31:30like pink PINK. Open that one and it'd be like
- 31:35you smell like poo poo or you fancy the person sitting three
- 31:42seats away from you. Your crush doesn't like you
- 31:45back. What?
- 31:48What? What?
- 31:48Oh. It's so funny.
- 31:51Love that. Oh, the memes.
- 31:52Absolute memes. It's time for Song of the Week.
- 32:00And this week we are talking about the absolute pot pot gem,
- 32:04Dawson's Geek by Busted. Little context verse.
- 32:07The song is from Buster's debut album, Busted self-titled, and
- 32:11it's basically like peak early 2000s storytelling, which we all
- 32:16know that we love. Oh my God, love it so much.
- 32:19And this is such a weird song because I know we've both
- 32:21discussed this before the pod, but we were neither of us were
- 32:26really Dawson's Creek girls. So I've done a little bit of
- 32:30like reading up about the show and like I can remember it being
- 32:33really popular at the time. I think it's quite American Y
- 32:38rather than it being like, it's not British, obviously, it's
- 32:41more like American Y and it's, I think it's based in Capeside,
- 32:45Massachusetts. Massachusetts.
- 32:48I'm probably saying that wrong, but it's about a guy who is.
- 32:53Absolutely. The song is about a guy who's
- 32:56absolutely obsessed with Dawson's Creek, the TV show, so
- 32:59much so that it's taken over his whole personality.
- 33:02And the band's written a song and they're singing about him.
- 33:06Yeah, in a kind of hilarious but sad way, showing how ridiculous,
- 33:10how ridiculous it is when someone's life revolves entirely
- 33:14around ATV show now. Sort of feel like this song
- 33:17could have been about me but. Renamed.
- 33:20Friends because I love friends to the earth and to the moon and
- 33:27back. Like literally cannot tell you
- 33:28how much I love that show. I am 33 years old and I swear
- 33:31down I have watched that show every week of my life for the
- 33:35last 20-3 years. Like since I was 10, easily.
- 33:39Easily because it came out in 1999 and I can still watch it on
- 33:45Netflix when I go to bed. Although they've taken it off
- 33:47this year, but. It's not.
- 33:49Got one of those dodgy sticks so I can watch it whenever I want.
- 33:52This is actually a friends 24/7 channel which is great.
- 33:55I love that. Naughty fire stick.
- 33:57That's what we call it in our house.
- 33:58Naughty fire stick, yeah. A naughty fire stick.
- 34:01Exactly. So yeah, it's, it's just about
- 34:04it's the song is written about a guy who loves the show Dawson's
- 34:07Creek. Yeah, and honestly, I think it
- 34:10captures that obsession perfectly, the way a show can
- 34:12just, like, consume someone so much that it becomes part of who
- 34:17they are. It's crazy, isn't it?
- 34:19But like confessions time, I have so many TV shows that I'm
- 34:23obsessed with. Like literally so many.
- 34:26Like I just said, Friends is probably a main thing for me but
- 34:29Vampire Diaries I I've seen that show 10 plus times from
- 34:35beginning to end easily. It's like my comfort I.
- 34:38Watch Yeah, I watch Vampire Diaries twice a year.
- 34:42Yeah, definitely. And I always feel like I want to
- 34:44watch it in like the autumn, like around like when it starts
- 34:47to get a bit darker and. Hoa hoa hoa season.
- 34:51Yes exactly. I absolutely love Vampire
- 34:54Diaries. I also love like Pretty Little
- 34:56Liars, I've binged that several times.
- 34:58I love Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, like all of those like
- 35:03really well known popular TV shows that just are so easy to
- 35:08binge. I'm obsessed.
- 35:09But I don't think anything will ever cut as deep as Friends for
- 35:12me. Friends is like my favourite of
- 35:14all time. 100% Friends and Vampire Diaries easy.
- 35:17I think mine are my like and I genuinely mean this.
- 35:22It's going to sound so cringe but I feel like they shape me.
- 35:25Like when people think of these TV shows they probably think of
- 35:28me because of I love them so much.
- 35:31Do you know what I mean? I think stranger things, I'm die
- 35:35hard stranger things fan. Vampire Diaries.
- 35:38I'm going to Vampire Diaries. Honestly it's like in my blood.
- 35:43Teen Wolf. I'm like such a angsty teenage
- 35:48like fantasy TV show lover. I love it.
- 35:53Pretty Little Liars definitely is up there that that show
- 35:57everything apart from the last season 10 out of 10.
- 36:02Also though like Gilmore girls, I love I love like an autumn
- 36:06vibe TV show like a comfort. It's exactly what you just had
- 36:10like a comfort TV show. I just they live for them.
- 36:13And The thing is though, as well is no TV shows quite compare.
- 36:17These are my re watchable TV shows and I re watch it all year
- 36:22long. One Tree Hill as well that I
- 36:25used to watch that I used to watch that show once a year and
- 36:29then it became unobtainable because it was nowhere to be
- 36:32streamed and now it's back on Netflix.
- 36:34I fear that I'm going to be a Scott.
- 36:38I fear that I'm going to be like, change my name to Mrs
- 36:42Lucas Scott or something. Please, I'll appreciate it.
- 36:47I think it's so difficult though, isn't it?
- 36:48Because like like you said, what is it something you just said
- 36:50then like re rang true, like TV just isn't the same anymore.
- 36:54Like there's nothing that like adds up or makes me feel the way
- 36:58that those old TV shows did. And like even down to like there
- 37:02are shows obviously that I love strange things.
- 37:04Don't get me wrong. Strange Things is one-of-a-kind
- 37:06is there's nothing like Stranger Things things that's.
- 37:08Why? It gives you that nostalgic
- 37:10feel. Yeah, because it's literally
- 37:12nostalgic. It's literally set in the 80s.
- 37:15So like, yeah, it's so old school that it makes you feel
- 37:18like you're always living back at that time anyway.
- 37:20Yeah, I think like there are some really good TV shows
- 37:23definitely that are out. I just think that nothing gives
- 37:27me the same feeling as things like Friends or, you know, like
- 37:30Vampire Diaries and that sort of stuff.
- 37:32There's just, there just isn't anything as good anymore.
- 37:35And even my husband agrees. He thinks that TV sucks nowadays
- 37:38and it's so hard to find something to watch that is
- 37:41actually worth watching. I.
- 37:43Think that's why shows become so huge at the moment though,
- 37:46because the ones that are good they nail it but the majority of
- 37:52them just mediocre Mark. Yeah, exactly.
- 37:56It's sad, isn't it really? Because like a lot of time and a
- 37:59lot of money and a lot of effort goes into making these shows.
- 38:02They're just never going to be the same.
- 38:04The Naughties was a definitely an amazing era for TV shows.
- 38:08Now this song itself is very interesting.
- 38:11Obviously Busted have chosen a real story to tell in this song.
- 38:15And it's like something that we we obviously love storytelling
- 38:18songs and that's why we love Busted and McFly.
- 38:21But the lyrics in this song are quite interesting because the
- 38:23band are actually like mocking the guy that you know, and
- 38:28they're really not being very nice about him.
- 38:31You really can't help but feel a little bit sorry for him.
- 38:34Yeah, no, I agree. Which, let's be honest, is
- 38:36something a lot of people could relate to in the early
- 38:39naughties. Just like getting completely
- 38:41wrapped up in teen drama and letting it take over your
- 38:44evenings and your thoughts, maybe even your wardrobe.
- 38:47You know, I know I've, I know I've dyed my hair like a few
- 38:51people on TV shows before. Absolutely.
- 38:56Oh, I remember going online and specifically hunting for Elena
- 39:00Gilbert's necklace so that I could wear it.
- 39:04I named my child Arya. I named my child Arya.
- 39:08Yes, you did, to be fair. To be fair, Peyton was one of my
- 39:14girl baby names. Jack wasn't a fan of it.
- 39:16But Peyton was one of my girl baby names and my boy baby.
- 39:20My highest boy baby name because we were going to go with Forest
- 39:24because Jack loves Forest and obviously Forest Gump is a
- 39:26massive thing for us. But my favourite boy baby names
- 39:30were Elijah and Lorenzo. That's so funny because Elijah
- 39:35was up there for me. Well, there you go.
- 39:37They are The Vampire Diaries characters.
- 39:38So there you go. My life is a little bit Dawson's
- 39:40geeky anyway, so it's all good. So what do you think about the
- 39:44song? Let's give it our our ratings.
- 39:46I've got the lyrics up to sort of refresh the memory, even
- 39:50though we know it really well. I know this song so well, but I
- 39:52don't know the show. But I feel like I know the show
- 39:54because I've. Sang it because of the song.
- 39:57Weird. This song for me is.
- 40:03I was going to say 9, but I'm going to say 8.5.
- 40:06Oh no. I'm going to say 9.
- 40:08You like this song? Really, really like this song.
- 40:11I do really like this song. It's not a 10 because there's no
- 40:14like catchy bridge or anything like that and there's no like,
- 40:18but I just this is like this song is my genre of music.
- 40:24It's like a little bit Blink 182.
- 40:27It's a little bit like, yeah, I just.
- 40:31And it's fun. Like the lyrics.
- 40:34Yeah, they are. If you take the deepness of them
- 40:37literally taking the piss out of someone out of it, it's like
- 40:41it's a fun song. It's very nostalgic to me.
- 40:45They don't play it very often, and when they do, it's like a 10
- 40:47out of 10. So good.
- 40:48I know they did it busted versus McFly, like just a little
- 40:51snippet of it and I was just like Oh my God.
- 40:52This is so good. I was like, where's the rest of
- 40:54it? I know, so quick.
- 40:56It wasn't long enough. So good.
- 40:58OK, this is like this is me, this song A.
- 41:01Strong nine. I like it.
- 41:02Fair play to you. OK, I think I'm it's up there
- 41:07for me, but it's not like a top dog.
- 41:09Definitely I'm going to go. I'm going to go 8, maybe, maybe
- 41:157.5. And it's really funny because I
- 41:17feel like I feel like I'm being way more generous with Busted
- 41:20songs than I am with McFly songs.
- 41:21But I think it's because there are so many more McFly songs
- 41:25that I can afford to give them less for the earlier albums
- 41:28because I know there's so many good songs to come.
- 41:30Whereas for Busted there's literally like only a couple of
- 41:33albums that we can work from. So yeah, I'm going to go for an
- 41:368. I really like the chorus because
- 41:39and what I really love, like, you know, like you said it, but
- 41:41it's very Blink 182. It's very like American Pie for
- 41:45me in that like it's very, you know what I mean?
- 41:50Like it's really quick. It's fast-paced.
- 41:52It's like exciting to listen to. Like it's not like there's no
- 41:57sort of like slow sections. And then there I love that
- 42:00you're just a rave and Dustin's maniac.
- 42:03I love that. I think that's really cute and I
- 42:04really love the chorus. I think that's really good.
- 42:08The the second verse is more obviously like reminds people
- 42:13that watch the show more about the show.
- 42:15The lyrics are why can't you see that you don't look like him in
- 42:19any way? At least the at least that kid
- 42:21has friends and that's a lot more than you can say.
- 42:24You've lost your mind and I don't think that you know who
- 42:27you are. Naming your dog Dog Pacey was
- 42:30taking things a little too far. Excuse me, my chance, Gloria.
- 42:36So this song is about you, just in a different era.
- 42:40So Pacey was the the like, subordinate male lead character
- 42:45in the show. So I think that's where that's
- 42:48came from. But yeah, it's it's it's a good
- 42:51time. I don't I think that it gets a
- 42:53bit sinister in the bridge. Do you remember what the bridge
- 42:56says? This is what I mean.
- 42:58I'm not. This is why I didn't rate it
- 43:00very high. It's not got a bridge that I
- 43:01like. Do you know what I mean?
- 43:02You've rated it a 9, Shannon. No, I rated it 8.5 and then I
- 43:07gave it a nine because I actually really do like the
- 43:10song. I think it is probably more of
- 43:13an 8.5, but I given it some leeway because it's it's it's a
- 43:19banger. The chorus sells it.
- 43:21They say the Bridges lyrics are. I guess I'll have to wait for
- 43:25your life to be over, I guess. I have to wait.
- 43:30For your life to be over. Oh dear.
- 43:35What is he saying? Are we just going to wait till
- 43:36you're dead? Ouch.
- 43:41No, I think that with that lyric.
- 43:43I think it's like, I think I, I think it's like a play on like
- 43:47the phrase you've got no Life, OK.
- 43:51Do you know? What I mean, do you know what
- 43:53the phrase like? I know they don't.
- 43:55They don't say that at all. Why is he saying, I guess I'll
- 43:58have to wait for your life to be over just.
- 44:01Like it's really I'm just trying to give him a bit of leeway.
- 44:03Please can you not make it go let down any less?
- 44:06Charlie, Matt, James, let us know what What?
- 44:10What was this about? You're waiting for the guy to.
- 44:14Die. So we have to.
- 44:15Call him a Dawson ski. Oh yeah, they definitely.
- 44:17And we'll get, we'll get to that stage.
- 44:20I mean, all the way. We've already done all the way.
- 44:22We know how bad that was. But other than that, I really
- 44:27quite like the song. I think it's quite good.
- 44:29I think it's quite funny. But again, they are just
- 44:32bullying the guy for loving Dawson's grace.
- 44:35True. I would have been the person
- 44:37that this song was written about, not the person that wrote
- 44:40the song. So since this song is basically
- 44:44a love letter to early 2000s teen TV, we have to talk about
- 44:48the shows themselves. The naughties, as we've said
- 44:52already, were peak for teen drama TV.
- 44:56Peak the like, literally the likes of Dawson's Greek, like
- 45:00we've just said, Wonder Hill, DOC Gilmore Girls, Oh my
- 45:03goodness, Gilmore Girls, Skins. Let's bring it back to the UK.
- 45:08Skins so I needed to bring it back to.
- 45:10The reason why I changed Bristol?
- 45:12I know I was adding these in and because like there were a lot of
- 45:17recommendeds that came up when I was think like doing research
- 45:20about them and then I was like, I'm Oh my God, what about skins?
- 45:23Because skins is naughties. I loved that show so much.
- 45:27I was so obsessed with it. I even auditioned to be a part
- 45:31of it. I didn't get.
- 45:32It so did I. Obviously, but yeah, well, I
- 45:35weren't at the same audition. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I remember.
- 45:37Yeah, yeah. Didn't know each other back
- 45:40then, but so cool. So yes, skins.
- 45:43And there was also so little time.
- 45:45Mary Kate and Ashley, do you remember that?
- 45:48So I loved Mary Kate and Ashley. So little.
- 45:52Town civil hours. Do I'd rather spend?
- 45:54We will be here for hours if you get me talking about Mary Kate
- 45:56and Ashley. I loved all of the Mary Kate and
- 45:59all the Mary Kate and Ashley films on video.
- 46:01Literally on video. In the sun, when in Rome are.
- 46:06You joking? Our lips, Our lips are sealed
- 46:07was probably one of my favourites winning London.
- 46:10Do you remember that when they were in the Model UN passport to
- 46:13Paris? Don't get me started.
- 46:16Honestly, I love them. I can't wait to introduce my
- 46:20kids to them. Can't Wait and obviously The
- 46:24Vampire Diaries and there's so many more obviously, but these
- 46:27were just some of our favourites and they were all, they were
- 46:31very interesting. They had quite a few dramatic,
- 46:35dramatic elements in them, don't you think?
- 46:38Oh yeah, 100% like, so I think every single one of them had at
- 46:42least three or four love triangles.
- 46:44Like they were so dramatic. I'm not quite of love.
- 46:49Yeah. Or like I fell in love with your
- 46:53brother or like, do you know what I mean?
- 46:55It's all very likes, very bit. It's a little bit like
- 46:58incestual. Yeah, all right.
- 47:00Vampire Diaries, you're bringing up Bonnie and Jeremy again.
- 47:02That ship has sailed. Well, that's a hill I'm willing
- 47:07to die on. I didn't shift.
- 47:08I didn't shift them. I'm not going to lie.
- 47:10Oh, yeah, deeply. Yeah.
- 47:13It's all, they're all just very dramatic, isn't it?
- 47:15Like you can, you can see every single scene is like built for
- 47:20maybe a music video, do you know?
- 47:22Oh yes, there's always like somebody staring out a window,
- 47:27looking, contemplating their life, probably raining out out
- 47:31the other side of the window. Do you know what I mean?
- 47:33It's all very, very like, like like a dark colour, like, very
- 47:40Moody. Musical.
- 47:43Yeah, I get it. I.
- 47:44Get it? All of them have this like Moody
- 47:45Philtre. Yeah, like like the first
- 47:47Twilight movie. Oh yeah, Or even like the second
- 47:51one where she's waiting for him, you know, where it goes round
- 47:54her and it's like. Autumn, oh, the seasons.
- 47:57I love that. I love that scene.
- 47:59I remember reading in the books because in the books it was just
- 48:02a page and it just said autumn, spring, summer, winter on like
- 48:07the page. And I was like, I wonder how
- 48:08they're going to do that when they obviously started doing the
- 48:10movies and it was so good. I think The thing is as well is
- 48:13these, these shows like literally shaped our
- 48:16personalities. Like I, I just let it take over
- 48:19my whole entire life. You weren't just watching them,
- 48:21you were actually like choosing A-Team to be on.
- 48:24Obviously Dawson's Creek was Team Pacey versus Team Dawson.
- 48:29And we did actually mention at the beginning of this before we
- 48:32started recording that the guy that played Dawson in Dawson's
- 48:35Creek actually passed away. Only a few.
- 48:38Weeks ago. Yeah.
- 48:39So it's crazy that this timing just came literally, like, how
- 48:42weird is that, that this episode came up at the same time because
- 48:45we do this chronologically. We're not choosing the order
- 48:48like this is chronological. So it's very strange that it
- 48:50came up at the same time. But yeah, you were choosing Team
- 48:53Pacey or Team Dawson. You were choosing on the with
- 48:56the OCI was most definitely Team Ryan.
- 48:58I can't remember the other guy's name.
- 49:00That's how hard I was for Team Ryan.
- 49:02And then you had Team Lucas and Team Nathan.
- 49:04When it came to One Tree Hill skins, I mean skins, I was very,
- 49:11it was very like Sid versus what was the guy?
- 49:15What was he called in the 1st season of Skins?
- 49:19The tall one? The guy that's in about a boy.
- 49:23Oh my goodness. What's he called Tony?
- 49:27Tony, that's it. It was very Sid versus Tony, and
- 49:30then it was Cook versus Freddie. Do you remember Cook and Freddie
- 49:34in like the end of the 2000s that that that series was that I
- 49:38was very much team cook. Oh my God, I love There's
- 49:41something about. Cook Although Freddie's
- 49:43Freddie's finale shook me as a human being, I think I cried my.
- 49:49Soul left my body seeing the blood splatter on the door I was
- 49:53like you have not just killed and they killed off Chris in the
- 49:56first season. How could?
- 49:58Chris. Chris, fuck it for Chris.
- 50:01Oh my God, I loved Chris so much.
- 50:03He was definitely like just he was.
- 50:05He was one of my favourite characters, like of all of the
- 50:08seasons. I just think he was such a good
- 50:10character. Yeah, exactly.
- 50:13And also don't forget Team Damon or Team Stefan or in my or in my
- 50:19books, Team Damon, Team Stefan or Team Klaus.
- 50:23Team Klaus answer. I knew you were going to say
- 50:26Klaus. The correct answer is always
- 50:29team. Klaus isn't on here.
- 50:32How dare you. How dare you.
- 50:35Absolutely. Yeah.
- 50:37It was serious, serious business.
- 50:39The naughties TV shows. 100% also the fashion.
- 50:43Can we talk about fashion for a minute?
- 50:45It cannot be exhort like the low rise jeans and like the little
- 50:50teeny teeny tiny spaghetti strap tops they're always like layered
- 50:56over the top of. Cardigans.
- 50:58Yeah, Oh yeah, and the little tiny, tiny handbags that fit
- 51:02probably a pound coin in. Literally nothing like like your
- 51:06flip phone. You could fit your flip phone in
- 51:08it. Yeah.
- 51:10Or if you're American, do you remember they had the slide to
- 51:12the side phones? Oh, good.
- 51:14Yeah, in Pretty Little eyes, they always had like slide to
- 51:18the side. Do you remember when
- 51:19blackberries were like trying to be a thing as well?
- 51:22Oh. Yeah, didn't really work.
- 51:24And like your M, your MP3 player, your iPod in your little
- 51:28back and your headphones wrapped around.
- 51:31Yeah, and your camera because you took you didn't have a
- 51:33camera on your phone, so you took your camera everywhere.
- 51:35Like a digital camera camera can be free.
- 51:40Flares were live back then. I'm I'm at 100%.
- 51:44I'm so here for flares being back in.
- 51:46I love my flares. Absolutely love.
- 51:48Them Autumn loves flares. She wears flares every single
- 51:51day and if she doesn't wear them, she gets really angry at
- 51:53me. The other day I put her in a
- 51:54skirt for school because she didn't put her school.
- 51:57She put school trials in the wash and the uproar in the
- 52:01morning because it's no flares for her to wear.
- 52:03My God, that's. So funny because I can remember
- 52:06wearing flares to school. They used to have a little
- 52:08shopping camel called double tea.
- 52:10I think it's still there now and it was like a really, really
- 52:14cheap chavy horrible, like just a really horrible shop for like
- 52:20crappy clothes. And they used to, it was the
- 52:23only place you could get like the stretchy flares.
- 52:27Do you remember? Those, they were like horrible.
- 52:30Like stuck to your skin? Nylon E and then they'd flare
- 52:34out at the bottom and then like the elastic would start to come
- 52:37out of them. If like they frayed at the
- 52:39bottom, you could like pull the elastic out of them.
- 52:42I used to have. Those you throw me back.
- 52:45Do you remember when everyone used to wear jeans that like,
- 52:48was slightly too long so they'd like drag along the floor?
- 52:51Yeah, and RIP the bottoms. Yeah.
- 52:53RIP the bottoms of them and you'd go out and the floor be
- 52:56wet and then like half your jeans are wet but it's fine.
- 52:58So cool. Yeah, it looked cool.
- 53:03Honestly, what was wrong with us?
- 53:06Those big circle belts, do you remember them?
- 53:08Yeah. Oh yeah, with the, with the
- 53:10little loops in them. Yeah, absolutely.
- 53:12The little silver like buckle around each hole as well.
- 53:15Do you remember that? Yeah.
- 53:17Oh my God, the fashion was insane.
- 53:20Also, headbands. Can we appreciate headbands?
- 53:22Because I'm wearing one right now.
- 53:23I fucking love a headband. Sorry, I used to wear headbands
- 53:27all the time. An Alice band.
- 53:30I used to call them actually. Yeah, little skinny ones, the
- 53:33Alice band. I used to call the little skinny
- 53:35ones Alice band and the thicker ones the headband.
- 53:38Yeah, absolutely. Alice bands and Dolly shoes.
- 53:40That was it, Dolly. Shoes.
- 53:44Little weird socks that you'd wear with them.
- 53:46So you were wearing socks so your shoes didn't smell, but you
- 53:50would look like you weren't wearing socks.
- 53:52Yeah, you couldn't see. You weren't allowed to see them.
- 53:54If you saw that you were wearing socks.
- 53:55My God. This was an epic, epic time.
- 53:59It really was. Also, before we move on and sort
- 54:04of round up today's episode, I think it's time we need to speak
- 54:07to her. I think we need to speak about
- 54:10something very important. OK, I'm ready.
- 54:13What is? It it's naughties TV crushes
- 54:16Shannon. Oh, we are opening a very
- 54:21dangerous door here. Because hear me out.
- 54:23If Dawson's Geek teaches us anything, it's that teenage
- 54:27crushes made us do very, very silly things.
- 54:31Yeah, like pretending to love ATV show just because the person
- 54:34you fancied isn't it? Yeah, I've been there.
- 54:36And. Definitely did that.
- 54:38I think I've watched every single TV show and movie that
- 54:42Andrew Garfield has ever done. You love that man, don't you?
- 54:48I think I've watched genuinely if if I'm like proper Satya deep
- 54:52in it, I've watched every single thing that man has ever done.
- 54:56I love that for you and I love that for him.
- 54:58Do I like it all? Probably not.
- 55:01Well, there you go. Because Andrew Garfield was in
- 55:03it. Exactly, and sometimes we just
- 55:05watch an entire series because somebody attractive was in it,
- 55:08even if it's absolute garbage. Yeah, 100 percent, 110%.
- 55:14So, you know, confession time. Who?
- 55:18OK. Was your biggest, biggest,
- 55:21naughtiest TV shut crush? This is really hard to answer
- 55:24because I've got so many, so I can't give you my biggest, but I
- 55:28can give you. I can give you a ballpark.
- 55:31I can. Give you a list.
- 55:32Actually, that's a lie. I can give.
- 55:34I can give you my biggest right now because we all know that day
- 55:38dot Damon Salvatore is at the very top of my list for
- 55:43everything. If I had Hello brother.
- 55:47If anybody you know, like on friends when they have the
- 55:50little laminated list of celebrities that they're allowed
- 55:52to sleep with. Ian Somerhalder is at the top of
- 55:56mine and will never move. Ever.
- 55:58He will never move. I don't care how old he gets and
- 56:01how old I get. He is there forever.
- 56:03That that is, it's laminated double sided.
- 56:07Do you know what I mean? Did you ever write IDST next to
- 56:10things? Did I if destroyed still?
- 56:13True of. Course I did.
- 56:17I Damon Salvatore, IDST do you. Remember writing those?
- 56:22Oh my God, what is wrong with us, with such losers?
- 56:25I was obsessed, absolutely obsessed, and I still AM.
- 56:30I go on this man's Instagram daily just to see what he's up
- 56:34to and I'm obsessed with his wife as well.
- 56:36And I just wish that they'd employ me to be in their
- 56:39throuple. You know, I'd be in a throuple
- 56:41with them. I'd.
- 56:41Happily speak in. Between them and employ me,
- 56:44Yeah. I don't need paying.
- 56:45Just hire me. I'll be just.
- 56:47I just help around the house. I'll help with the kids.
- 56:51I'll help out on the farm because they've got a lovely
- 56:53little farm. I'll help out wherever you need
- 56:56me, honey. I'm there.
- 57:00The deal is, though, I get to sleep in between you both.
- 57:06I'm the piggy in the middle. OK, so David Damon Stamatore was
- 57:10most definitely at the top, but can we also just have a moment
- 57:13for the whole entire Vampire Diaries cast?
- 57:16Because they're every single. One what did they put in that
- 57:19water? Oh my God, they are all even
- 57:23like even the people that aren't supposed to be attractive or
- 57:26attractive. Yeah, literally.
- 57:28I'm not OK with it. I'm really not OK with it.
- 57:31I am. I am OK with it, but I'm also
- 57:32not because I'm obsessed. Just One Tree Hill whole team
- 57:36chat. Oh, God, yeah.
- 57:38Chad Michael Murray hit something deep within my soul.
- 57:42I don't still don't know to this day what it is because I started
- 57:45watching One Tree Hill last night again.
- 57:46And I just looked at his cute little face and I was just like,
- 57:49what is it that you've got? You've got like a hold on me.
- 57:51And I don't know what it is. I think it's a Cinderella story.
- 57:54I think it's the whole glad we waited for the rain.
- 57:58You know what to say. Sorry, Sorry we waited for the
- 58:02rain. Not glad we waited for the rain.
- 58:04Sorry we waited for the rain because I his little buzzcart in
- 58:10that movie. It's like soft little face with
- 58:13this little bit of bum chin fluff.
- 58:15I just love him. I will say, you know, I said
- 58:18that they were like TV shows. You love to pretend.
- 58:21You pretend you love just because someone you fancy.
- 58:22Today. I think I love Chapel, Michael
- 58:25Murray and everything he's ever done.
- 58:27But I cannot, I cannot say that I watched Riverdale when he was
- 58:32in it. See, I gave up on Riverdale
- 58:35because it just got too, too much for me.
- 58:39Yeah, 100%. And then you bring in jab on
- 58:41Michael Murray and I'm like, well, I'm gone now.
- 58:43I can't. It's too late.
- 58:44Yeah, it's too late. This is the worst thing I've
- 58:47ever seen. I really enjoyed Riverdale and
- 58:50then they it was like what? It sort of tried to be Stranger
- 58:53Things and I was like, what are you doing?
- 58:55Like there's does not need to be monsters in Riverdale.
- 58:57It's not about monsters. Why did they all get
- 59:00superpowers? Yeah, it was.
- 59:02I think they were losing. They were losing people and they
- 59:05were like, what can we do to make this more interesting?
- 59:08And it just failed. It didn't work.
- 59:10It was such a shame because it could have been a really good
- 59:11series, but never mind. Also I am I've already mentioned
- 59:16Chris from Skins but I loved. Sid.
- 59:20I loved Sid. Geeky little smelly Sid and his
- 59:23little hat and his greasy hair and his little glasses.
- 59:26I loved him. I really had a soft spot for
- 59:29that bloke. And I think there was an episode
- 59:31where he sang Oh baby baby. It's a wow world, can you
- 59:36remember that? And now when Jack puts that song
- 59:40in the car, obviously he plays the original version and I'm
- 59:42like, it's not SIDS version, it's not okay.
- 59:46I love him so much. And then obviously we've
- 59:50obviously spoken about Twilight, Taylor Naughtner.
- 59:53It's not TV, it was a movie. I was obsessed.
- 59:56I was so obsessed, Shannon, I wrote a song about this man.
- 1:00:00I wrote a song about him. It was called My Addiction and
- 1:00:06it literally. The song The song.
- 1:00:10Starts with I keep seeing your face on all these magazines, but
- 1:00:15I can't help but love you so. Wow, you're really cool.
- 1:00:21Has anyone ever told you that you're really, really cool?
- 1:00:23Amber all the words you know what's even funnier?
- 1:00:29You could watch it on my Facebook because my dad shared
- 1:00:31it a couple of weeks ago and he was like, look at this I.
- 1:00:33Just found my face. I'm going.
- 1:00:36I'm going back and going. Back.
- 1:00:38I'm playing. No, please.
- 1:00:43I'm playing my guitar and it is absolutely hilarious.
- 1:00:46I'm so serious. I'm so serious.
- 1:00:52I was addicted to Taylor Lautner.
- 1:00:55I wasn't allowed to be. I wasn't allowed to be Team
- 1:00:57Jacob. I, me and my friends were like
- 1:01:01we were only allowed one each. Jacob was already taken, so I
- 1:01:05had to be Edward. Even though deep down I was Team
- 1:01:08Charlie, deep down I was Team Charlie.
- 1:01:15We all love. We all love Mr Swan.
- 1:01:18Oh, that scene still makes me cry.
- 1:01:20Do you know that? Oh my God, I love you know when
- 1:01:23she's like walking out, when she, when he's like, I'll do
- 1:01:26better. Oh my God, I actually I've got
- 1:01:29these. I know and she's like trying it.
- 1:01:31She's only leaving because she knows that he's going to end up
- 1:01:34dying if he's she stays there. Oh my God, I'm so sad.
- 1:01:36Yeah, she's he's begging her. Oh my God, it's literally.
- 1:01:39Sad. And finally, I added on last
- 1:01:42night all we were talking no, no, it's not because I had a
- 1:01:46flashback. At the beginning.
- 1:01:47Of this episode of Aaron Taylor Johnson in Angus thongs and
- 1:01:54perfect snogging. And I was like, Oh my Lord
- 1:01:56above, how could I not have added him in?
- 1:01:58Because when he was playing, that fire you ignited, he's on
- 1:02:03the stage and played oh. I This is my favourite movie of
- 1:02:09all time ever. If if you were to like put a gun
- 1:02:12to my head, I would tell you this movie.
- 1:02:16Oh my God, I love this. This is I, Yeah, I actually
- 1:02:21can't express how much I love this movie.
- 1:02:22Do you like this? Do you like that movie?
- 1:02:24I do. I do.
- 1:02:27I do. Such a good movie.
- 1:02:28So, so good. How about you?
- 1:02:31I'm ready to. And also can we just say, if you
- 1:02:34look at all of the people that I have just said, it does say a
- 1:02:37lot about my taste in very emotionally complicated, man.
- 1:02:40Because Damon Salvatore, he was very fucked up.
- 1:02:44Sid, very, very messed up. Chris very, very messed up.
- 1:02:49Taylor Naughtner, just a little bit obsessed and a bit crazy,
- 1:02:51wasn't he? Let's put it that way.
- 1:02:52They're all a little bit mental. So it says a lot about me.
- 1:02:59I'm trying to figure out the ending of his storyline, but
- 1:03:01it's a bit weird, isn't it? How didn't he fall in love with
- 1:03:04her daughter who was a baby? Yes, he did.
- 1:03:06Well, he was not born yet. He fell in love with her.
- 1:03:08Stomach basically imprinted. Sorry.
- 1:03:14I know it's not the same, it's not the same thing.
- 1:03:16It's not the. Same, my crushes were very.
- 1:03:22I feel like I've got the same TV crushes as every fucking girl my
- 1:03:26age. Peter Pan from the original
- 1:03:30Peter Pan. Jeremy Sumter.
- 1:03:32Oh gosh. He was the first love of my
- 1:03:35life. Yeah, I think I had a spot for
- 1:03:38him for sure. I wasn't.
- 1:03:40I was. I was obsessed.
- 1:03:42I think I watched that movie once a week when I was younger.
- 1:03:46I had it on DVD and I watched it constantly.
- 1:03:50Oliver from Hannah Montala. Oliver Okin.
- 1:03:53That was when I was getting into my life.
- 1:03:55Yeah, I was getting into my life.
- 1:03:57Long dark hair, face slightly emo.
- 1:04:01Oliver Oaken, he was funny. This is what you'll understand
- 1:04:05from my list. Your list says you are
- 1:04:08emotionally complicated. My list says I just need to
- 1:04:11laugh. Oliver Oaken.
- 1:04:14I got Jess from Gilmore Girls who was a little bit serious,
- 1:04:19but he was like, he was the guy. He was the one.
- 1:04:22I'm I'm now, I'm a Logan girl. Back then I was so Jazz Styles
- 1:04:28from Teen Wolf, who It wasn't cool to like Styles when he was
- 1:04:32Styles, but now everyone knows him as Dylan O'Brien.
- 1:04:36It's OK is. In love with him.
- 1:04:37It's it's OK. I want to just say that he is my
- 1:04:40number one man in every single sense of the word.
- 1:04:44I He's my Damon Salvatore. I don't know.
- 1:04:48I love that for you because I know how I feel about Damon
- 1:04:50Salvatore. So I'm, I love that for you.
- 1:04:53When Taylor Swift employed Dylan O'Brien to be in her music video
- 1:04:59All too Well Ternament version, I spontaneously combusted on the
- 1:05:03spot. And said, is it Sadie?
- 1:05:05What's her name? Sadie, Sadie Sync.
- 1:05:07Sadie Sync. Oh my God, that music video was
- 1:05:10epic. Absolutely insane.
- 1:05:12That was just. My 2 lies, Stranger Things and
- 1:05:16Ryan Are you joking? Coming together and Taylor Swift
- 1:05:19literally. Also Aaron Taylor Johnson of
- 1:05:24course. Alex Pettifer in anything he did
- 1:05:29beastly. Beastly was such a good movie.
- 1:05:32Beastly. Wild child Vanessa Hudgens as
- 1:05:35well, wasn't it? Yeah, it was.
- 1:05:37And I hated him in Wild Child because, sorry, throwing things
- 1:05:41around, I I didn't like him in Wild Child because he was such a
- 1:05:45tosser at the beginning. When he's like that bit in the
- 1:05:50when he's in the dance and he says her name and he's like
- 1:05:53Poppy Moore. Yeah, I don't know why, but that
- 1:05:55bit lives in my head. Brent Free.
- 1:05:57Brent free all the time. Literally.
- 1:05:59And then just Zac Efron in anything he's ever been in,
- 1:06:02apart from when he had his surgery, of course.
- 1:06:05But like, I feel like I grew up fancying him when he when I was
- 1:06:09a child and he was like of that taste.
- 1:06:12And then as I got older and older, he just became my carried
- 1:06:16on being my taste. Yes, absolutely.
- 1:06:19Jack always says that he's the one man he'd go gay for.
- 1:06:23And I would respect that, Bradley.
- 1:06:25'S I would do. I would totally do, yeah.
- 1:06:28Bradley's is David Beckham. Oh nice, that's an interesting
- 1:06:32he's for Bradley. I can't imagine him as being a
- 1:06:34David Beckham kind of guy. Oh, he's very much David Beckham
- 1:06:39guy to the point where he wears David Beckham aftershave.
- 1:06:41My nan buys some David Beckham aftershave every single year for
- 1:06:44Christmas. Love that you go, Brad.
- 1:06:47Yeah. You know, You know what girls
- 1:06:50want. Exactly.
- 1:06:53You go Glen Coco. I love it.
- 1:06:57Can we also talk about, because we've picked out a lot of
- 1:06:59different TV shows and films and stuff there.
- 1:07:01Obviously we've got like Teen Wolf, Hannah, Hannah Montana,
- 1:07:04Gilmore Girls. We've got a bit of High School
- 1:07:07Musical. We've got Skins, we've got The
- 1:07:09Vampire Diaries. Can we talk about how these
- 1:07:11shows absolutely defined what we thought romance really was?
- 1:07:15Because I don't know about you, but I don't get any romance when
- 1:07:19it comes to, you know, the way that Damon Salvatore picks up
- 1:07:24Elena and snogs her and grabs her face and all that.
- 1:07:26And the way he looks at her and he's like, I love you.
- 1:07:29And I'm just like, oh, nobody has ever.
- 1:07:32Ever. Yeah.
- 1:07:34When I'm Why? What's wrong with?
- 1:07:36Me exactly. When I'm angry at Bradley, I'll
- 1:07:39watch a ROM com and I'll just get even more angry because I'm
- 1:07:43like, why do I not have this in my life?
- 1:07:46Literally. I'm not sorry that I love you,
- 1:07:48Damon. Well, actually I am sometimes.
- 1:07:53I'm deeply sorry actually, or. What's about my days?
- 1:07:59Where class is like, I know I'm not your first love, but I
- 1:08:02intend to be your love. Oh my.
- 1:08:04God I was such a claroline ship and they I just don't know why
- 1:08:09they didn't put them together it was so stupid.
- 1:08:12What a stupid ending. It's because of the originals.
- 1:08:15It's because I know. But I don't care about the
- 1:08:18Originals. I didn't watch the Originals.
- 1:08:20I watched The Vampire Diaries and in my head they needed to be
- 1:08:24together. And also, how dare you?
- 1:08:27How dare you leave Bonnie Bennett in that mess.
- 1:08:32I That poor woman had nothing but awful storylines all the way
- 1:08:38through. She.
- 1:08:38Oh my. God shit.
- 1:08:40Only to have poor Enzo ripped apart in front of her by what
- 1:08:44supposedly was supposed to be one of her best friends.
- 1:08:46Not OK, let's just leave it at that.
- 1:08:50Oh my God, the Enzo storyline also because I was like really
- 1:08:53emotionally attached to Enzo because again, he's like, he was
- 1:08:57a bit of the Comic Relief for a little while, wasn't he?
- 1:09:00Because he just didn't give a shit.
- 1:09:02And that's, that's like, as you can see from my people, I was
- 1:09:05saying a minute ago, I love a bit of Comic Relief.
- 1:09:08I'm sorry, spoiler alert for any of you that are watching Bumper
- 1:09:11Diaries currently just giving it all away.
- 1:09:15And those are probably one of the hardest storylines to watch
- 1:09:17for me. Oh my God.
- 1:09:19Sorry, I've just had a thought. I didn't include the one guy.
- 1:09:25The one guy who like was my Bebo password.
- 1:09:28Rupert freaking grin. Oh my God, Rupee.
- 1:09:35Oh my God, I'm so sorry, Ron Weasley.
- 1:09:38Sorry. Sorry, Rupert.
- 1:09:41Sorry Rupert, I just realised it's just popped into my head
- 1:09:45and I'm completely I'm sorry. And to be fair, one of the main
- 1:09:49reasons that we are friends because you have that rot.
- 1:09:52I love Ron Weasley bracelet on. I did.
- 1:09:55Yeah. You.
- 1:09:55Did you? Definitely.
- 1:09:57What a time to be alive. What a time to be alive.
