- 3:31Speaker 4: because you know, it is our community highlight. You know,
- 3:34Speaker 4: we just started this, so I want to make sure
- 3:36Speaker 4: we're consistent with it. And I want to shout out
- 3:39Speaker 4: a special young lady. We have never met, but she
- 3:43Speaker 4: actually joined lunch with just when I was doing it
- 3:45Speaker 4: on Tiatong, and y'all, I think i'ma have to strike
- 3:47Speaker 4: something backup on TikTok.
- 3:48Speaker 2: I've been leaving y'all too lonely for a little too long, Okay.
- 3:51Speaker 4: But I met this young lady through that community, and
- 3:54Speaker 4: when I say proud, proud.
- 3:56Speaker 2: I get out Unlike other influencers.
- 3:58Speaker 4: I don't know what other influencers do, but I know
- 4:00Speaker 4: what I do, and I get to know my people,
- 4:03Speaker 4: and baby, when I tell you, because she's reached out
- 4:06Speaker 4: to me, she shared some things with me.
- 4:08Speaker 6: She has supported Share, like coming in and subscribed.
- 4:11Speaker 4: I know what's going on, and so I want to
- 4:13Speaker 4: shout out Ashley Williams. Okay, her TikTok name is at
- 4:19Speaker 4: am I t l asol. I'm not even gonna try
- 4:24Speaker 4: to spell it or say pronounce that. She's gonna have
- 4:26Speaker 4: to tell y'all later. But Ashley Williams, you know exactly
- 4:28Speaker 4: what I'm talking about. I want to tell you. I'm
- 4:30Speaker 4: so proud of you, girl. I just saw that you
- 4:33Speaker 4: are on your sober Okay.
- 4:36Speaker 6: She has committed to go and dry.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Okay.
- 4:39Speaker 4: She said that relationship with alcohol was defeated or trying
- 4:42Speaker 4: to defeat her, and she is coming up on it.
- 4:45Speaker 4: So I want to tell you, yes, you can do it,
- 4:47Speaker 4: just the same grace as God has put on my
- 4:49Speaker 4: life to go drive this year and to be exposed
- 4:51Speaker 4: to the greatness. Hallelujah. You will see it. I even
- 4:54Speaker 4: see that your musicianship will enhance. You will get so
- 4:57Speaker 4: much clarity the things that you want, the things that
- 5:00Speaker 4: you desire. God is gonna give you clarity on the
- 5:03Speaker 4: progression towards that. I feel like the Lord is even
- 5:06Speaker 4: enhancing your steps.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Thank you, Holy Spirit. And you are.
- 5:10Speaker 4: Gonna be crushing serpents heads. So Ashley, my girl, Congratulations,
- 5:17Speaker 4: We love you over here at day.
- 5:21Speaker 6: Congratulations.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Congratulations.
- 5:23Speaker 4: Man, going dry as hard, especially when you listen. Listen
- 5:33Speaker 4: that local, that local get it to you and do something. Okay,
- 5:38Speaker 4: I'm not gonna be one to tell you to lie
- 5:40Speaker 4: about it. It's not easy because I promised you. I
- 5:42Speaker 4: had to call Desiray on multiple ocasions say hey, I
- 5:45Speaker 4: want a little taste because it's getting there. But we
- 5:50Speaker 4: celebrated that, y'all. I'm nervous because this gift that we
- 5:57Speaker 4: have today is well rounded. She's a well rounded being.
- 6:05Speaker 4: Her life is a full testimony young young.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Young little Tennarney. But she ain't on them streets because
- 6:12Speaker 2: she's a whole married woman Okay.
- 6:14Speaker 6: She's count she is kunt Okay, she's.
- 6:17Speaker 4: A mother, she is a daughter, and but most importantly,
- 6:24Speaker 4: she's a child of God. Listen, I have on this
- 6:26Speaker 4: platform or a special reason, y'all. Y'all know, I don't.
- 6:29Speaker 4: I don't necessarily do the politic thing. But I got
- 6:32Speaker 4: on this platform because of her well roundedness and because
- 6:35Speaker 4: of her heart for God.
- 6:36Speaker 6: And so she gonna give us some clarity today.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Baby.
- 6:39Speaker 4: She is from or study at the University of Alabama,
- 6:45Speaker 4: roll Tide. So that's some's some special kudos, okay. And
- 6:49Speaker 4: not only one degree, she got both of them from. Okay,
- 6:51Speaker 4: she's lowered up. Okay, that's the law. She got that
- 6:54Speaker 4: low law. Okay, So don't don't get it twisted. But
- 6:57Speaker 4: also listen, she is running right now for probate judge.
- 7:02Speaker 4: And I have no shame about promoting that because I
- 7:04Speaker 4: think she's the right I know she's the right woman
- 7:06Speaker 4: for the job. So I introduced to some and present
- 7:09Speaker 4: to others missus Shanti Brown.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Let's get down with Brown. Let's get down with Brown.
- 7:22Speaker 4: Let's get down, get down, get down.
- 7:30Speaker 2: I love you.
- 7:32Speaker 6: I love you, Okay, I'm so happy for you. How
- 7:35Speaker 6: you feeling this.
- 7:36Speaker 7: I feel great, I feel amazing. I feel blessed to
- 7:40Speaker 7: be on your platform. Like I have all the feels.
- 7:45Speaker 7: It's your right armies, my listener, Okay, I have all
- 7:48Speaker 7: the fields this.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Morning, all the bodies listen.
- 7:51Speaker 4: I'm super excited because I feel like this is about
- 7:53Speaker 4: to be a space to where I know I'm gonna
- 7:56Speaker 4: be educated because like I said, I don't I don't
- 7:58Speaker 4: do the politic thing, and I don't I don't really learn.
- 8:01Speaker 4: But I also really, I really love the opportunity to
- 8:04Speaker 4: get to know you better because as just seeing it,
- 8:07Speaker 4: I'm she's a couple of years older me, but we
- 8:10Speaker 4: went to the school University of Alabama around the same time,
- 8:13Speaker 4: and I've been able to like, you know, you see
- 8:15Speaker 4: people in passing right and just to see your life
- 8:18Speaker 4: in passing I've taken. I'm like, oh I can get that,
- 8:21Speaker 4: I can I can do that, or oh she doing that, Okay,
- 8:24Speaker 4: let me support that, let me pray for her behind
- 8:26Speaker 4: the scenes with that, Like so you're you're one of
- 8:28Speaker 4: them those people. I'm like, man, she she outside doing
- 8:31Speaker 4: a dog on thing, making a difference. So shout out
- 8:34Speaker 4: to you, shout out to you for being great Okay,
- 8:37Speaker 4: so I want to I want to. One thing I
- 8:39Speaker 4: do like to allow my guests on my platform to
- 8:43Speaker 4: do is to talk about themselves.
- 8:46Speaker 2: How do you how do you introduce yourself to the world? Boy,
- 8:49Speaker 2: it's hard. Why is it hard?
- 8:51Speaker 4: Because?
- 8:52Speaker 7: Like what do I Okay, I'm one. I'm a child
- 8:56Speaker 7: of God. Let's start there. So my mom, she has transition,
- 9:00Speaker 7: she is with the Lord, but she instilled in me
- 9:03Speaker 7: the importance of having a relationship with God. So the
- 9:06Speaker 7: biggest thing I'll say is I'm a woman of faith
- 9:08Speaker 7: and He has killed me through it all. So I'll
- 9:12Speaker 7: start there. I'm a wife. I'm a proud wife. I've
- 9:15Speaker 7: been married to my husband for ten years. I'm a
- 9:17Speaker 7: mom to my baby, Kobe Ava, that's my baby. I'm
- 9:23Speaker 7: a Sorrower deuilta signatate of Sorority Incorporated. I'm also a lawyer.
- 9:27Speaker 7: I'm a public servant. I was a public defender and
- 9:31Speaker 7: then I became a prosecutor. So I have literally literally
- 9:34Speaker 7: served on both sides of justice. So that's another aspect
- 9:39Speaker 7: of me. And then now you can say I'm a
- 9:42Speaker 7: I don't like to say I'm a politician because I
- 9:45Speaker 7: wouldn't say I'm a politician, but I do have.
- 9:48Speaker 2: To run in order to become a judge.
- 9:50Speaker 7: So I'm now in the political realm and I'm running
- 9:53Speaker 7: for district judge Place eleven.
- 9:55Speaker 2: Okay, let's start.
- 9:56Speaker 4: Let's start there as far as like the politician, because
- 9:59Speaker 4: I know I was like, I don't do politics. I
- 10:01Speaker 4: don't do and the politics gotta negle connotation. I think
- 10:06Speaker 4: you probably understand why why would you what would you
- 10:09Speaker 4: dress that up to be?
- 10:10Speaker 7: Like?
- 10:10Speaker 4: What makes you different as a politician, because although we
- 10:13Speaker 4: don't like that word, that's what people view you.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Or you ask what makes you different? What makes you
- 10:18Speaker 2: stand out?
- 10:19Speaker 7: Because I'm just a public servant. I think a lot
- 10:21Speaker 7: of people run for positions for selfish reasons because of
- 10:26Speaker 7: the title, because of what they can get from it.
- 10:28Speaker 7: But I'm running because I literally just want to continue
- 10:31Speaker 7: to serve. So I start serving one as a public defender.
- 10:36Speaker 7: And when I graduated from law school, I could have
- 10:37Speaker 7: easily opened up my own private firm, or I could
- 10:40Speaker 7: have went and worked for a firm, but I decided
- 10:42Speaker 7: to be a public servant because so many times people
- 10:46Speaker 7: find themselves in a situation and they can't spend five
- 10:49Speaker 7: ten thousand dollars on an attorney. But they deserve somebody
- 10:52Speaker 7: that's going to go in the courtroom and fight for them,
- 10:55Speaker 7: as if you were spending that much money on me.
- 10:57Speaker 7: So I chose to be a public defender. I chose
- 11:00Speaker 7: to be a public servant. And then I realized I
- 11:03Speaker 7: spent so much of my time as a public defender
- 11:06Speaker 7: begging prosecutors to just be reasonable. I'm like, Hey, do
- 11:10Speaker 7: they this they first offense? Do they have to get
- 11:11Speaker 7: a feelingy? Can we do something different? Can we go
- 11:14Speaker 7: about it a different way? So instead of continuing to
- 11:17Speaker 7: beg for a prosecutor to be reasonable, I just became
- 11:20Speaker 7: what I wanted to see.
- 11:22Speaker 2: That's so good, And I became a prosecutor.
- 11:25Speaker 4: So and I was going to ask you about that transition,
- 11:27Speaker 4: because prosecutors get.
- 11:29Speaker 2: A bad rep, a horrible rep.
- 11:32Speaker 6: And so the reason why what I just heard you
- 11:34Speaker 6: say is because you.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Was done begging.
- 11:37Speaker 4: Let me just go here and be I think that's
- 11:39Speaker 4: so powerful. And it also leads to something I was
- 11:42Speaker 4: curious about. I watched you on TikTok. Y'all should follow
- 11:44Speaker 4: on TikTok. We're gonna have for information in the description.
- 11:47Speaker 4: I was watching you on TikTok, And one of the
- 11:48Speaker 4: things I appreciate about your page is that you really
- 11:53Speaker 4: show your day in a life type of thing, but
- 11:55Speaker 4: you also share your heart. Like sometimes prosecutors can and
- 12:00Speaker 4: seem like dehumanized cold.
- 12:02Speaker 7: We can sing cold and like you said, dehumanized, but
- 12:06Speaker 7: it's it gets to we're human.
- 12:08Speaker 2: We're human.
- 12:09Speaker 7: It's a lodgist. And again, thank you Lord of my
- 12:12Speaker 7: relationship with God. Because you were just talking about you
- 12:15Speaker 7: choosing to be dry. It was a point in my
- 12:18Speaker 7: life where that was my coping mechanism where I had
- 12:21Speaker 7: a long day. I'm coming home. I need to wine
- 12:24Speaker 7: of glass too. That's how I'm going to relax. I
- 12:26Speaker 7: gotta run Backford. I'm getting a wine glass. But then
- 12:29Speaker 7: that wina glass can either turn into two and then three,
- 12:32Speaker 7: and then before you know it, you picking up a
- 12:35Speaker 7: habit that you you don't need to pick up, right,
- 12:38Speaker 7: So I was I was once there where it was normal.
- 12:41Speaker 7: If I'm going to buy some chicken, you say, I
- 12:43Speaker 7: like the cook I do, But with that chicken and
- 12:45Speaker 7: their rice and the green means I'm picking up two
- 12:47Speaker 7: bottles of wine too, and to cope with what's going
- 12:51Speaker 7: on because it's so much. As a prosecutor, I typically
- 12:55Speaker 7: meet someone when they're at their lowest because a family
- 12:59Speaker 7: member has been murdered and kill. So I'm talking to
- 13:01Speaker 7: a mother who is broken, yeah, because her child has
- 13:04Speaker 7: been murdered on the street. And that's just so that's
- 13:07Speaker 7: a lot to take on, you know. So, yeah, it's
- 13:11Speaker 7: it's it's a lot.
- 13:12Speaker 2: It is so.
- 13:15Speaker 4: I love that we're going down this path because one
- 13:18Speaker 4: of the things that I did notice I started, like
- 13:21Speaker 4: recently following Birmingham City Police Department and there's stuff and
- 13:28Speaker 4: of course everything kind of hit at a peak. I
- 13:30Speaker 4: didn't realize I wasn't following them because it's one thing
- 13:33Speaker 4: to follow the Mayor's office.
- 13:34Speaker 2: They gonna only give you so much. Now let's really
- 13:36Speaker 2: follow the police department. The boots on the ground, the
- 13:39Speaker 2: boots on the ground. I love that.
- 13:41Speaker 4: And one of the things that I guess it was
- 13:44Speaker 4: the chief he mentioned that the biggest problem that we
- 13:48Speaker 4: have in a city, in this city is gun violence.
- 13:52Speaker 4: Everything seems to be else, seemed to be under control,
- 13:55Speaker 4: but the gun violence seems to be hiding out.
- 13:59Speaker 1: I know.
- 14:00Speaker 4: So technically you're running for District eleven, which is best
- 14:04Speaker 4: the best on the area.
- 14:05Speaker 2: What is it that we.
- 14:07Speaker 4: Are at the community are missing in this and how
- 14:10Speaker 4: can we help impact positive results in this whole gun
- 14:15Speaker 4: violence matter?
- 14:16Speaker 7: Yeah, so I think one, well, that's such a hard question,
- 14:22Speaker 7: because how do you fight gun violence? We know one
- 14:27Speaker 7: that the gun laws were changed so you no longer
- 14:29Speaker 7: need a pistol permit to even carry. So I think
- 14:32Speaker 7: that's one. Any any and everybody can carry a gun
- 14:34Speaker 7: now in the state of Alabama without any background check anything.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Let's start there.
- 14:41Speaker 4: You just learned me something I didn't know that. Did
- 14:44Speaker 4: you know that I didn't? You just learned me something
- 14:47Speaker 4: right there.
- 14:47Speaker 7: You used to have to go to the sheriff's department
- 14:50Speaker 7: whichever county you live in. So for example, we live
- 14:52Speaker 7: in Jefferson County. We used to have to go to
- 14:53Speaker 7: the Jefferson County Sheriff's department and pass the background check
- 14:57Speaker 7: and get a pistol permit before I can go legally
- 14:59Speaker 7: purchase a by your arm.
- 15:01Speaker 2: The governor they took that away. That's no longer the law.
- 15:04Speaker 7: So we are a pistol. We don't need a pistol
- 15:07Speaker 7: permit anymore, no background checks, nothing. Anyone can just go
- 15:10Speaker 7: and buy and buy a gun. Yeah mm hmm.
- 15:15Speaker 6: She just blew my mind with that. And I didn't
- 15:18Speaker 6: know that.
- 15:18Speaker 2: I thought you still had that.
- 15:19Speaker 6: So how do you so, how do you control that?
- 15:22Speaker 2: Like, how do you control exactly? And there's no control.
- 15:25Speaker 7: We have lost control, which is why so many people
- 15:28Speaker 7: are carrying guns, and then they're carrying these it's called
- 15:31Speaker 7: switches where they can turn a regular gun into an
- 15:34Speaker 7: automated gun, which means that they can pull the trigger
- 15:36Speaker 7: for three seconds, but seventeen bullets come out at one time.
- 15:39Speaker 7: And that's how the mask to hit so many people
- 15:42Speaker 7: at one time. But just pulling the trigger for three seconds,
- 15:45Speaker 7: that's seventeen bullets coming out at once.
- 15:48Speaker 6: It's a war, that's what it is. That's the language
- 15:52Speaker 6: for it. It's a war.
- 15:53Speaker 4: And it's like not even just a war in between
- 15:56Speaker 4: like two parties or whoever beefing at the time, but
- 15:59Speaker 4: now it's it's like the whole community innocent.
- 16:02Speaker 2: It's a war. It's a war.
- 16:04Speaker 7: Because there are so many casualties of war. You know,
- 16:07Speaker 7: it may be a targeted hit, but because they're spraying
- 16:10Speaker 7: so many rounds, you got three innocent people that didn't
- 16:12Speaker 7: have anything to do with this. For example, at Hush
- 16:16Speaker 7: four people got killed, seventeen other people got shot. They
- 16:19Speaker 7: didn't have anything to do with this, So one, how
- 16:23Speaker 7: do you combat it? I think the laws need to
- 16:24Speaker 7: be changed again to bring that back where people need
- 16:27Speaker 7: background chicks.
- 16:28Speaker 2: And because I do think it's a warfare. It's a
- 16:30Speaker 2: spiritual warfare.
- 16:31Speaker 7: Come on now, making it's a spiritual warfare. So I
- 16:34Speaker 7: do think that they say we're supposed to separate church
- 16:38Speaker 7: and state, but I think that we as the Christian
- 16:41Speaker 7: community can do more within getting our community. We can't
- 16:45Speaker 7: just stay in the four walls of our church and
- 16:47Speaker 7: pray about it. We gotta go walk these streets and
- 16:49Speaker 7: pray about it. For example, from me, I don't just
- 16:52Speaker 7: stay in the courtroom. I go to schools all the time,
- 16:56Speaker 7: and I talked to high school ors. I even go
- 16:58Speaker 7: to middle school because I try to catch them as
- 17:00Speaker 7: young as I can't. Yeah to say, I rather for
- 17:02Speaker 7: you to see me here than for me to get
- 17:04Speaker 7: to know you in that court room.
- 17:06Speaker 4: And I'm so glad you brought I'm so glad you
- 17:08Speaker 4: brought that up because one of the things that I
- 17:12Speaker 4: probably disagree on is that you know, we have this
- 17:17Speaker 4: language of this generation don't want it.
- 17:19Speaker 6: This generation they different. Now I ain't gonna lie.
- 17:22Speaker 4: This generation is a is a little different, but the
- 17:25Speaker 4: desire of the heart is not the same. Like they
- 17:27Speaker 4: want to be around this. What are you hearing in
- 17:30Speaker 4: the schools when you're visiting they want?
- 17:32Speaker 7: I will say, they're not different. See we think that
- 17:35Speaker 7: they're different. But when I go talk to them, it's
- 17:38Speaker 7: the same as you and I, Jessica. They want the
- 17:41Speaker 7: same things. Children won't structure, they won't discipline. They want
- 17:45Speaker 7: people to say, hey, you.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Deserve more, your worth more than this. You do have
- 17:50Speaker 2: something to lose.
- 17:52Speaker 7: Like But if people keep saying they different, they bad.
- 17:55Speaker 7: They that's what we're putting into their spirit. But if
- 17:59Speaker 7: I say, baby, no, no, I don't know you have something
- 18:02Speaker 7: to lose. Do you know who God created created you
- 18:04Speaker 7: to be? Do you know God has a plan for you?
- 18:06Speaker 2: Do you know?
- 18:07Speaker 7: For example, when I go inside these schools, I bought
- 18:11Speaker 7: these cheap journals. They're about this big yeah, And I
- 18:14Speaker 7: told them how important it was to write their vision
- 18:16Speaker 7: and make it plain. And you know how excited those
- 18:19Speaker 7: children were to get a journal, to get a journal.
- 18:23Speaker 7: They were excited about that. And I'm talking about fourteen
- 18:27Speaker 7: year old boys. Girls didn't matter, black, white, hispanic didn't matter.
- 18:31Speaker 7: I was at Huretown Middle School. They were so excited
- 18:34Speaker 7: to get that journal.
- 18:36Speaker 4: But not only to get the journal. What I hear
- 18:39Speaker 4: is that they were excited that somebody told them they
- 18:41Speaker 4: had a vision. Okay, I told the woman the God
- 18:48Speaker 4: that I was in the third heaven. So I almost
- 18:52Speaker 4: took off right there. But honest to God, like, how
- 18:55Speaker 4: many children know that they can, that they are permitted
- 18:59Speaker 4: to see?
- 19:02Speaker 6: Like you got.
- 19:02Speaker 4: Pission to not only see, but to write down what
- 19:08Speaker 4: you are seeing.
- 19:09Speaker 6: So now it's not even just a journal. Now you're
- 19:11Speaker 6: giving me. I got a dream, I can write down
- 19:14Speaker 6: a dream.
- 19:15Speaker 2: I got something to write. I got something to write.
- 19:19Speaker 4: Okay, let me let me gather myself. I got this,
- 19:22Speaker 4: Joe and little Oil this listen. So when as a prosecutor,
- 19:27Speaker 4: I'm there is because I love a good.
- 19:28Speaker 2: Law and order. Yes, I love a good.
- 19:37Speaker 4: So so when I'm looking at your your profile on TikTok,
- 19:43Speaker 4: I just I mean, I really enjoy it.
- 19:45Speaker 2: I hear your hear your heart beat on it.
- 19:47Speaker 4: What's the proudest moment that you've had as a prosecutor?
- 19:51Speaker 4: Because we hear about the sad moments, But what's that
- 19:53Speaker 4: moment where you said, you know where God you helped
- 19:55Speaker 4: me do that, like you help me overcome that thing.
- 19:58Speaker 2: Oh that's a that's a good question.
- 20:01Speaker 7: It's been so many cases that have just pulled on
- 20:04Speaker 7: my heartstrings. But I give you one, and I'm gonna.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Try to say this without crime, just God, because I
- 20:10Speaker 2: don't want to. It's okay, so I prosecute murders, but
- 20:17Speaker 2: I also prosecute child.
- 20:20Speaker 7: It's say cases, right, explain that child sexual assault case? Okay,
- 20:25Speaker 7: So I didn't know if I you know some platforms,
- 20:27Speaker 7: she can't say sexual assaults. Okay, so I prosecute those
- 20:32Speaker 7: as well. And it was this young black girl. And
- 20:35Speaker 7: let me say this, this is another reason why it's
- 20:37Speaker 7: so important for I think black people and especially black
- 20:40Speaker 7: females to be prosecutors because a lot of times we
- 20:45Speaker 7: are victims and we if the person don't look like us,
- 20:49Speaker 7: sometimes they don't understand us. So I was able to
- 20:53Speaker 7: bumd with this one girl and she was sexually assaulted
- 20:58Speaker 7: by her mom's boyfriend. And let me say this, a
- 21:02Speaker 7: lot of times the sexual assaults are the family friends
- 21:05Speaker 7: that you think you can trust yeah. And I remember
- 21:08Speaker 7: I was second charity, which means that I wasn't the
- 21:11Speaker 7: primary I wasn't the initial prosecutor on the case. It
- 21:14Speaker 7: was my colleague who does not look like you and I.
- 21:17Speaker 7: So when I came into the room, I saw that
- 21:20Speaker 7: her whole, I saw the kids. I see that it changed,
- 21:24Speaker 7: and so I began to talk to her, and then
- 21:26Speaker 7: she just broke down and she said, I thought everyone
- 21:29Speaker 7: forgot about me, and I just I just went over
- 21:35Speaker 7: there and I just like literally just held on to her,
- 21:38Speaker 7: and she literally just cried in my shoulders. She was like,
- 21:40Speaker 7: I thought everyone forgot about me. And then we went
- 21:44Speaker 7: to trial and it was time for her to face
- 21:46Speaker 7: this person that has done all these things.
- 21:49Speaker 2: Literally put a gup.
- 21:50Speaker 7: She was raped that gunpoint as a child, and she
- 21:56Speaker 7: was it was time for her to testify, and she
- 21:58Speaker 7: ran out of the courtroom crying.
- 22:01Speaker 2: I went out.
- 22:01Speaker 7: We went in the back stairwell and I literally just
- 22:04Speaker 7: talked to her as if she was my daughter.
- 22:06Speaker 2: I said, this is your moment, this is your moment.
- 22:09Speaker 7: I know you're afraid, but this is your moment to
- 22:11Speaker 7: look him in the face and say, you know you
- 22:13Speaker 7: did this to me, and she cried.
- 22:15Speaker 2: Then I held her and then I wiped her face.
- 22:17Speaker 7: I fixed her but and I remember her little bun
- 22:19Speaker 7: was missed up and I fixed her hair and I said,
- 22:22Speaker 7: you got it. And she went on this stand and
- 22:24Speaker 7: she testified, and so that case will always we still
- 22:28Speaker 7: we still are in communication to this day. He was
- 22:30Speaker 7: found guilty, Thank God, make good prison for what he did.
- 22:33Speaker 7: But we still communicate to this day. So shout out
- 22:37Speaker 7: to you. She no, I won't say her now. Of
- 22:39Speaker 7: course you know who you are. I love you, girl,
- 22:41Speaker 7: and we still communicate to this day.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, wow, that was the one. That's one of
- 22:47Speaker 2: the cases.
- 22:47Speaker 7: When the jury came back with guilty, I was like, Yo,
- 22:50Speaker 7: this is why I'm doing what I'm doing.
- 22:51Speaker 6: It's a reminder.
- 22:53Speaker 4: Yeah, it's reminded because I believe also, I wouldn't be
- 22:56Speaker 4: surprised if you had cases that's like why did why
- 22:58Speaker 4: didn't this go this way? Or how are you able
- 23:02Speaker 4: to manage that going home at night? Like what is
- 23:04Speaker 4: your systems? Your your s ops for going home, because
- 23:08Speaker 4: that's you taking a lot of drama. Yeah, you said
- 23:12Speaker 4: you ain't drinking no more. Yes, trauma, trauma and drama
- 23:17Speaker 4: and you're bringing it to home.
- 23:18Speaker 2: So how do you as a promo starty one.
- 23:21Speaker 4: Woman, listen, cleanse yourself of that that that heartache, and
- 23:27Speaker 4: be able.
- 23:27Speaker 2: To be present as a wife and a luma.
- 23:30Speaker 7: Well I'm glad you said wife because my husband won.
- 23:32Speaker 7: He's so good. They say opposite is a tract, and
- 23:34Speaker 7: it's literally us to a t I'm an aries, I'm
- 23:37Speaker 7: very type, I'm very like.
- 23:40Speaker 2: He's a lib. He's like, girl, why are you swinging?
- 23:43Speaker 3: Girl?
- 23:43Speaker 2: And sit down? Like girl, why you stressed you?
- 23:47Speaker 7: And we've been together for so long that he can
- 23:49Speaker 7: tell like I don't even have to say something like
- 23:52Speaker 7: I don't even have to tell how my day was.
- 23:54Speaker 7: He can just read the room and be like.
- 23:57Speaker 2: So, how was your day?
- 23:58Speaker 7: Yeah, like what's going on? And then so he's he's
- 24:01Speaker 7: real good at that. And then I do I read
- 24:04Speaker 7: the word he already knows. I go upstairs in my
- 24:07Speaker 7: guest room where my mom my mom transitioned at my home. Wow,
- 24:12Speaker 7: And some people think it's a it's a bad thing,
- 24:15Speaker 7: but it actually gives me peace that that's where she
- 24:19Speaker 7: that's where she passed. So I think her spirit, I
- 24:21Speaker 7: know her spirit is still in that space. So so
- 24:23Speaker 7: a lot of times I go upstairs where she passed
- 24:25Speaker 7: and I read my Bible. My baby Kobe. She's a comedian,
- 24:31Speaker 7: so she keeps me on my toes just laughing, and
- 24:36Speaker 7: it's it's the family.
- 24:37Speaker 2: It's the way. I'll say this. The trauma and the
- 24:40Speaker 2: drama I experience, it.
- 24:41Speaker 7: Works give give me another level of appreciation of what
- 24:45Speaker 7: I have at so, I think it puts a lot
- 24:49Speaker 7: of things into perspective.
- 24:50Speaker 2: But once I get home, like God, I thank you,
- 24:54Speaker 2: God went up.
- 24:57Speaker 4: I almost just took this table off, because there's no
- 25:01Speaker 4: gratitude than being able to be experienced like we on
- 25:05Speaker 4: this same earth, we walk in this same land, and
- 25:07Speaker 4: your experience is different from my.
- 25:09Speaker 2: God. I thank you God. I thank you that I
- 25:13Speaker 2: didn't lose my mind.
- 25:14Speaker 4: God, I thank you that my husband is here with
- 25:16Speaker 4: me and I got to worry about him being gunned down.
- 25:18Speaker 6: I thank you that I'm in this safe space.
- 25:21Speaker 2: God.
- 25:21Speaker 4: I I thank you, Yes, girl that thank you become
- 25:26Speaker 4: different when you see, when you see different things and
- 25:29Speaker 4: you experience different things. My goodness, that almost sent me in.
- 25:33Speaker 4: But I'm so glad. You continue to bring up your
- 25:35Speaker 4: mom and I want to talk about her at her
- 25:39Speaker 4: I want to. I'm gonna try to say this without crying.
- 25:42Speaker 4: Don't cry because I don't want to. But I admire
- 25:46Speaker 4: you so much, Chante, because you are so strong and
- 25:52Speaker 4: I know, as black women especially we always got She's
- 25:55Speaker 4: so strong, you know, I'm saying it from a heartfelt place,
- 25:59Speaker 4: like the perseverance, the tenacity, the resilience. Only only walking
- 26:09Speaker 4: through it with God can get you there. And if
- 26:12Speaker 4: I want and I could be and have that level
- 26:17Speaker 4: of tenacity, resilience, perseverance, I know I could be a
- 26:22Speaker 4: great woman.
- 26:23Speaker 2: And you're the epitome of that.
- 26:25Speaker 4: And to see, first of all, let's let's before we
- 26:27Speaker 4: talk about your mom, because we gotta. I gotta give
- 26:29Speaker 4: a understand, give people the understanding of Okay, I'm not
- 26:32Speaker 4: just talking about the grieving your mother. I'm talking about
- 26:35Speaker 4: you in law school and you find out or you
- 26:39Speaker 4: have you find out you're pregnant, and you have your
- 26:41Speaker 4: baby while you're doing law school. How did baby? We
- 26:51Speaker 4: love you, Kobe, but my god, you made an appearance.
- 27:00Speaker 2: Our world. How was that time for you?
- 27:02Speaker 4: I mean, you're a stupid You're right out of undergrad
- 27:05Speaker 4: like you have your whole life ahead of you.
- 27:07Speaker 2: In the name bam dropped it.
- 27:08Speaker 7: Like they say, God has a sense of human because
- 27:12Speaker 7: when you write your plan, now God got up the
- 27:14Speaker 7: laughing like, girl, yeah, this is what you're about to do.
- 27:16Speaker 7: You about to become a whole mom right now, right now.
- 27:20Speaker 7: Once again, I got kudos to my husband because I
- 27:22Speaker 7: call my husband like Lord Jesus.
- 27:27Speaker 2: But at that time, were y'all engaged? Were y'all? We
- 27:30Speaker 2: weren't even married yet. We weren't even married yet. So
- 27:33Speaker 2: and I was in law school.
- 27:34Speaker 7: I had I got a scholarship initially, I went to
- 27:37Speaker 7: law school in Montgomery and he was still in Tuscaloosa.
- 27:41Speaker 7: So we were living long long distance, but not really
- 27:44Speaker 7: you know, it's like an hour or so. Yeah, So
- 27:47Speaker 7: I wasn't even Tuscaloosa at the time. So I call
- 27:50Speaker 7: him like, oh my god, what am I gonna do?
- 27:52Speaker 7: And again he's my calmness. I don't know how he
- 27:55Speaker 7: does it, maybe because he's in the military and he's
- 27:57Speaker 7: seen so much, but he just has this life level
- 28:00Speaker 7: of colmness to him where he's like I remember calling
- 28:03Speaker 7: him and I told him like, oh my god, my god.
- 28:05Speaker 7: He said, okay, it's going to be okay, he said,
- 28:06Speaker 7: tell me before you took the test.
- 28:08Speaker 2: What were you about to do? I said, I was
- 28:09Speaker 2: about to get my nails done.
- 28:10Speaker 7: He said, go get your nails done. That was go
- 28:15Speaker 7: get your nails done. It's okay, we'll figure it out.
- 28:18Speaker 7: Why are you go get your nails done? Like we're
- 28:20Speaker 7: about to have a baby. This is like literally and
- 28:23Speaker 7: I was like, okay.
- 28:26Speaker 2: Same grace because baby and got that.
- 28:29Speaker 7: I'd be swallowing, like you will get your helpmate again.
- 28:32Speaker 7: God knows what you need. And I went to go
- 28:35Speaker 7: get my name. I went to go get my nails done,
- 28:38Speaker 7: and I applied. I contacted Alabama, applied to Alabama, got in,
- 28:43Speaker 7: thank God. So I was able to transfer to Alabama,
- 28:46Speaker 7: the University of Alabama Law School.
- 28:48Speaker 2: And I had Kobe. Let me tell you again how
- 28:50Speaker 2: funny God is so and she laughing. Girl.
- 28:56Speaker 7: So Kobe was due on August to fourteenth. You know
- 28:59Speaker 7: what significant about that day? That was the first day of.
- 29:02Speaker 2: School, my last year.
- 29:05Speaker 7: So I got pregnant my two o year and I
- 29:08Speaker 7: had her right before school started, my last year of
- 29:11Speaker 7: law school, right and she was doing August fourteen. So
- 29:15Speaker 7: I went to the doctor. I said, look, you're gonna
- 29:17Speaker 7: have to get her up out of here.
- 29:19Speaker 4: I said, we're gonna induce sea section, whatever we gotta do.
- 29:23Speaker 2: She got out there.
- 29:24Speaker 7: Off before August fourteen, I went to my doctor. She said, baby,
- 29:29Speaker 7: you're not even dilating yet. I'm not inducing. She was
- 29:32Speaker 7: calm when she calm, so I said, Lord Jesus.
- 29:36Speaker 2: What I'm gonna do? So baby, I got to walk in.
- 29:39Speaker 7: I'm telling me, I was walking everywhere and this is
- 29:41Speaker 7: this is walking up the hills and.
- 29:42Speaker 2: There walking up hills.
- 29:44Speaker 7: If I went to Walmart, I'm parking at the back
- 29:46Speaker 7: of the parking line so I can walk.
- 29:47Speaker 2: I'm like, she gotta get out of here. She got,
- 29:50Speaker 2: you got to go, and she did. She came on
- 29:52Speaker 2: her own. She lit again.
- 29:54Speaker 7: Got but let me say this. I was trying to
- 29:57Speaker 7: do everything on my own. And I remember, remember I
- 30:00Speaker 7: went home and prayed. I remember, and sometimes you it's
- 30:04Speaker 7: in those situations where it's literally outside of your hands.
- 30:08Speaker 7: When my baby enters this world, it's literally out of
- 30:10Speaker 7: my hands. And so I remember praying. I said, God,
- 30:13Speaker 7: it's on you. If she comes on August fourteenth, I
- 30:15Speaker 7: know I'll still graduate. I know I give it all
- 30:17Speaker 7: you literally they literally I just gave it to him.
- 30:21Speaker 7: I said, God, I get I give it to you.
- 30:24Speaker 7: I gave it to you. I gave it to him.
- 30:27Speaker 7: My water broke on his own when I'm sleeping at
- 30:29Speaker 7: that when I'm when I rest, when I stopped stressing,
- 30:38Speaker 7: literally was asleep, resting, and it's pool water broke.
- 30:43Speaker 2: Oh lord, now I'm like all.
- 30:45Speaker 7: On August the fifth, water broke on his song. On
- 30:49Speaker 7: August the fifth, I maybe pushed twice. I'm telling you,
- 30:53Speaker 7: such an easy delivery. Literally, everything just can't. I had
- 30:58Speaker 7: her on August if on a Tuesday. By August fourteenth,
- 31:01Speaker 7: Pho Niches thirsty, I was sinning class.
- 31:05Speaker 6: You were sitting in the class. You ain't getting no
- 31:07Speaker 6: work brought to you.
- 31:08Speaker 2: I was sinning class. I was sinning class. That's what you're.
- 31:13Speaker 4: Gonna make my point, because I don't know if it
- 31:16Speaker 4: could be. That's another level of strength.
- 31:18Speaker 2: I was sinning class.
- 31:20Speaker 4: Like them, them seas ain't comfortable like you, just putting
- 31:24Speaker 4: somebody please.
- 31:27Speaker 7: Milk coming stitches, still sinning class.
- 31:33Speaker 4: That's the that's another level of determination. That's another level
- 31:37Speaker 4: of I saw with what God saw, he showed it
- 31:39Speaker 4: to me. Come on, he showed it to me. And
- 31:41Speaker 4: by enemies necessary.
- 31:43Speaker 2: That's a strength. I mean. And again, my husband took
- 31:46Speaker 2: off work for three months. What's the what's your husband?
- 31:50Speaker 4: Name is?
- 31:50Speaker 2: John Brown? Shut John Brown? Mister John Brown.
- 31:57Speaker 4: If they make duplicates of you, I know it's some
- 31:59Speaker 4: women out here in these streets that needs you. Can't
- 32:02Speaker 4: you can't hear, you can't have causes tape lets let
- 32:07Speaker 4: us know, because they say birds fly together.
- 32:10Speaker 2: So mister Brown, if you got this single.
- 32:12Speaker 4: Friends, I know people that are looking. But no, that's
- 32:18Speaker 4: that's so, that's so beautiful. For one, it sounds like
- 32:22Speaker 4: for when your your your husband is a real, a
- 32:25Speaker 4: real man of God, like his character is intact. Like
- 32:28Speaker 4: you don't even sound like, oh, I'm just doing this
- 32:29Speaker 4: my wife, It's like that's his being.
- 32:31Speaker 2: Like, so God care of you, a good man, and
- 32:34Speaker 2: take care of you. God.
- 32:36Speaker 7: Man took off for three months. I didn't miss the
- 32:38Speaker 7: day of school and you finished. I finished on time
- 32:42Speaker 7: and passed the bar the first time. Nothing but God, literally.
- 32:47Speaker 6: So you couldn't even question if you was supposed to
- 32:49Speaker 6: be doing this or not.
- 32:50Speaker 7: Clearly, God, clearly, because it's like what you thought would
- 32:54Speaker 7: have stopped me.
- 32:55Speaker 2: Or delayed me. Nothing.
- 32:58Speaker 7: Literally, I didn't miss a step then miss a day
- 33:01Speaker 7: of class, graduated on time. Kobe wasn't even one yet
- 33:06Speaker 7: when I was studying for the bar, so I literally
- 33:08Speaker 7: still had a baby studying for the bar, took the
- 33:12Speaker 7: bar that July passed, the bar, got my bar results
- 33:15Speaker 7: on my husband's birthday.
- 33:18Speaker 2: That I passed. You say that.
- 33:24Speaker 4: This is what I'm getting from you, that you don't
- 33:27Speaker 4: allow life that be lifing to interrupt the plans of God.
- 33:32Speaker 4: And I think, especially as believers, let's talk about the believers,
- 33:37Speaker 4: we have an opportunity to lean on what we know
- 33:43Speaker 4: or say that we believe. And what I'm hearing from
- 33:46Speaker 4: you is that your belief has always been intact. So
- 33:51Speaker 4: I bring that part up is because I think that
- 33:55Speaker 4: your story, or seeing you walk through this journey of
- 33:59Speaker 4: greed with you with your mom passing, has blessed me
- 34:07Speaker 4: beyond measures, because if I could be transparent with you
- 34:12Speaker 4: real quick. My father is where we're saying, he's on
- 34:17Speaker 4: his victory journey from cancer.
- 34:18Speaker 8: Right.
- 34:19Speaker 2: This is the second time he's had it. Right.
- 34:22Speaker 4: And but when I see stories like yours, my cousins
- 34:26Speaker 4: they've lost their father to cancer, the cancer thing is just.
- 34:31Speaker 2: It's a trigger. Yes, it is mm hmmm.
- 34:37Speaker 4: And as a daughter and seeing and I'm trying not
- 34:41Speaker 4: to get emotional because I notice your story.
- 34:44Speaker 2: No, no, but this is what we're here.
- 34:46Speaker 6: Yeah, how do you still push through that pain point?
- 34:54Speaker 6: Because I know she was your best friend.
- 34:56Speaker 4: I know that y'all were working together, baby, y'all will
- 34:59Speaker 4: cook you like y'all, y'all was doing some things like
- 35:03Speaker 4: best friends.
- 35:03Speaker 2: It's my best friend.
- 35:05Speaker 4: How you pushed through that and be at the place where, oh,
- 35:10Speaker 4: I'm running again? Because does make this very clear? This
- 35:14Speaker 4: ain't shut as first time running.
- 35:16Speaker 2: For judge probate judge.
- 35:18Speaker 7: This saint the first time district district judge, my distrate judge.
- 35:21Speaker 6: Not my girls.
- 35:22Speaker 2: My friend's running for probate. Yes, and my girls. I
- 35:24Speaker 2: told y'alln't know nothing about no politics.
- 35:28Speaker 4: I told you, but it's not your first time running.
- 35:35Speaker 6: She was here on the first run and now she's not.
- 35:38Speaker 2: How new?
- 35:39Speaker 4: How does Shanta deal with this? How does she navigate
- 35:42Speaker 4: through this process?
- 35:43Speaker 7: I would I wouldn't even say it's a day by day.
- 35:46Speaker 7: It's a moment by moment because one moment you may
- 35:50Speaker 7: be okay and.
- 35:51Speaker 2: Another moment you may cry, and that's okay.
- 35:54Speaker 7: And That's why I want to tell people, like I
- 35:56Speaker 7: think when it comes to grief, I think people think like, oh,
- 36:00Speaker 7: it's a time where you're grieving, then it's then you'll
- 36:03Speaker 7: be over.
- 36:03Speaker 4: No.
- 36:04Speaker 7: I think I will be in some stage of grieving
- 36:08Speaker 7: for as long as I'm here on earth, until I'm meet,
- 36:10Speaker 7: until I transition myself. But grief, it's different. How do
- 36:17Speaker 7: I say this? I saw, so I'll say this. I
- 36:22Speaker 7: saw something on TikTok where this girl was talking about
- 36:27Speaker 7: her best friend's dad passed away, and she was saying
- 36:31Speaker 7: that her best friend was saying, I want to get
- 36:33Speaker 7: back to the normal version of me, and she says
- 36:37Speaker 7: she told her friend, You'll never get back to that
- 36:40Speaker 7: person because that person had your dad. You have to
- 36:43Speaker 7: discover what's the new person. So for me, once I
- 36:49Speaker 7: let go of that version of chante, you know, that
- 36:52Speaker 7: version of chante having my mom here is gone. She
- 36:55Speaker 7: loved When my mom loved, this is now a new
- 36:58Speaker 7: version of chantay. But what is that a chante that
- 37:00Speaker 7: is able to persevere, A chante that remembers my mom
- 37:04Speaker 7: and her legacy and what she left here on this earth,
- 37:07Speaker 7: and the values and the foundation that she instilled in me.
- 37:12Speaker 2: I'm able.
- 37:12Speaker 7: That keeps me going, you know what I mean. And
- 37:16Speaker 7: it's literally a I won't even say day by day.
- 37:19Speaker 7: It's a moment by moment because I could wake up
- 37:22Speaker 7: full of joy and happiness, and then the smallest thing
- 37:26Speaker 7: may be a trigger and I may find myself crying,
- 37:28Speaker 7: but not like a bullhoo cry, just to you know,
- 37:29Speaker 7: a cry, and then I may go back to being happy.
- 37:33Speaker 7: It's literally a moment by moment. Just it's a moment
- 37:36Speaker 7: by moment because it's nothing like that's the person I
- 37:40Speaker 7: don't I didn't know a life without her, you know,
- 37:43Speaker 7: you know, and that was my best friend, the person
- 37:46Speaker 7: I called.
- 37:46Speaker 2: For everything, whether it's.
- 37:50Speaker 7: Girl im and Walmart where they keep the chicken booyon
- 37:52Speaker 7: because I'm trying to I'm trying.
- 37:55Speaker 2: I'm trying to make sure my green's right.
- 37:57Speaker 7: Oh okay, I need to I need to get some
- 37:59Speaker 7: bacon grease, so let me go get the back and
- 38:01Speaker 7: like small stuff like that to big stuff. When I
- 38:04Speaker 7: found out, I was praying in law school girl and
- 38:05Speaker 7: praying the girl like.
- 38:07Speaker 2: The person that you literally call for everything is no
- 38:10Speaker 2: longer here. So what does that look like?
- 38:12Speaker 7: Especially at such a young age like I was only
- 38:14Speaker 7: thirty two when she passed away. She had just turned sixty.
- 38:18Speaker 7: And then on top of that, I was her caregiver. Yeah,
- 38:22Speaker 7: so my mom found out that she had and let
- 38:25Speaker 7: me say this, this, I think this is why it
- 38:27Speaker 7: was such a traumatic experience for my sisters.
- 38:30Speaker 2: And I have two sisters as well. And I had never.
- 38:34Speaker 7: Seen my mom sick at all, like I'm talking about
- 38:37Speaker 7: never even seeing her with the cold. Like my mama
- 38:40Speaker 7: was the type of mama where she woke up at
- 38:42Speaker 7: four o'clock every morning without alarm clock, and she would
- 38:46Speaker 7: pray and she would cover us and she would cover
- 38:48Speaker 7: her body and I'm talking about pray from head to
- 38:50Speaker 7: toe over her body. I never seen my mama even
- 38:53Speaker 7: literally with the cold before. So for her to go
- 38:56Speaker 7: from that to going to the hospital and being diagnosed
- 38:59Speaker 7: with stage four minutes steadica venian cancer, it was like whoa.
- 39:05Speaker 7: And so that was in April. She left the hospital
- 39:07Speaker 7: and she moved in with me. She said, I want
- 39:09Speaker 7: to stay with you. So I went from Okay, you know,
- 39:14Speaker 7: now I'm a Now I'm in this caregiver faith walk mode.
- 39:19Speaker 7: So you know, my mom, I remember being at the hospital.
- 39:22Speaker 7: I never forget this, and I remember the doctors, and
- 39:23Speaker 7: you know, you can tell when something is like whoa,
- 39:26Speaker 7: because I can tell one it was a team of
- 39:28Speaker 7: doctors that came into the room. So I'm like, all right,
- 39:31Speaker 7: it's about ten of y'all in here, and all y'all
- 39:33Speaker 7: look sad, like what's going on? Like y'all whatever, y'all
- 39:36Speaker 7: about to say, I don't think this is good. And
- 39:39Speaker 7: so I remember seeing in her bedside and they delivered
- 39:42Speaker 7: the news and they said it was incurable, you know,
- 39:43Speaker 7: and all of that, and I remember just feeling like
- 39:46Speaker 7: I was about to just pass out, and I never
- 39:48Speaker 7: forget my mom said, oh, okay, okay, because I'm not
- 39:55Speaker 7: gonna go.
- 39:56Speaker 2: This is gonna be a good thing. I'm not gonna cry.
- 39:58Speaker 2: My mom said, no, weap informed against her.
- 40:01Speaker 7: Shall prosper, Like for you to look in the doctor's faith,
- 40:05Speaker 7: like doctors are telling you essentially you're about to die,
- 40:08Speaker 7: you have an incurable disease.
- 40:10Speaker 2: And my mom.
- 40:10Speaker 7: Immediately gave them the word like I will never forget that.
- 40:16Speaker 7: I will never forget that. She said, no, weap informed
- 40:19Speaker 7: against her, shall prosper. And I remember, okay, it's okay,
- 40:24Speaker 7: and I remember they brought her back from doing the biopsy,
- 40:30Speaker 7: and I remember we turned on whose report.
- 40:33Speaker 2: Do you believe? We shall believe the report of the Lord?
- 40:35Speaker 7: And I remember my mom she was already losing weight,
- 40:39Speaker 7: and I remember she we got up and we were
- 40:44Speaker 7: like dancing around the hospital room.
- 40:46Speaker 2: Whose report do you believe? We shall believe the report
- 40:49Speaker 2: of the Lord? And thank you, thank you so much.
- 41:00Speaker 7: And so she moved in with me, and we used
- 41:02Speaker 7: to go on walks and I still got and I
- 41:04Speaker 7: cherished those videos.
- 41:05Speaker 2: I'm happy I recorded them.
- 41:08Speaker 7: But when we used to go and walks in my
- 41:09Speaker 7: neighborhood and we used to just literally pray and speak
- 41:12Speaker 7: the word and confess. And so when my mom transition,
- 41:16Speaker 7: I tell people, you know, yes she transitioned, but she
- 41:19Speaker 7: received the ultimate healing, like she's in a place where
- 41:22Speaker 7: we all pray to be one day. So that's that's
- 41:25Speaker 7: another reason why it gives me peace, because I'm like
- 41:27Speaker 7: my mama. I used to tell everybody, you know, how
- 41:29Speaker 7: they say Jesus on the main line, I'm like, no,
- 41:31Speaker 7: but for real, my mama can't call him like if
- 41:34Speaker 7: something's going on, I know it's called my mama. She
- 41:37Speaker 7: got a different relationship with him, like, if I call Jesus,
- 41:40Speaker 7: he may put me on hold on lib you know
- 41:42Speaker 7: what I'm saying, Like he's gonna be like a hold on.
- 41:45Speaker 2: But if my mama call with my mama call, he
- 41:48Speaker 2: picking up like she got him. That's the type of
- 41:51Speaker 2: relationships they had.
- 41:53Speaker 7: The Lord put me on hole because sem like, girl,
- 41:57Speaker 7: I ain't car me about two three when you being shit,
- 42:00Speaker 7: He's gonna put me on a whole little bit.
- 42:02Speaker 2: But my mama she on the main line, So I said, Yo,
- 42:06Speaker 2: she she's with Jesus.
- 42:08Speaker 7: So that that gives me peace because I know she
- 42:10Speaker 7: her and Jesus are up there, and I can tell
- 42:13Speaker 7: that she has I definitely have a different level of coverage.
- 42:18Speaker 7: I feel like it's so many situations where now people
- 42:21Speaker 7: be like Dan should say how are you, how are
- 42:23Speaker 7: you dealing with this, or how are you dealing with this?
- 42:25Speaker 7: I'm like, I know I got Jesus up there, and
- 42:26Speaker 7: I know I got my mom. There's just a different
- 42:29Speaker 7: level of coverage, a different level of peace that I
- 42:31Speaker 7: have in certain situations because it's stressful being a wife,
- 42:36Speaker 7: being a mom, being a prosecutor, and campaigning. You know,
- 42:40Speaker 7: I just feel like I'm I'm always being told. But
- 42:44Speaker 7: then at the same time, I do have that peace
- 42:46Speaker 7: that the past is all understanding. Yes, and I tell
- 42:50Speaker 7: people people always quote that, but I said, what is
- 42:52Speaker 7: the scripture before that pray about everything and worry about nothing.
- 42:55Speaker 7: Come on, you will have peace? Thats her past or
- 42:58Speaker 7: are understanding?
- 42:59Speaker 4: We yeah, man, you're talking really, I'm telling you this
- 43:03Speaker 4: side of my body.
- 43:04Speaker 2: I'm telling you this side of my body.
- 43:06Speaker 4: You so's it was inevitable that you would be a
- 43:10Speaker 4: woman of God, Like it was no way that you
- 43:12Speaker 4: could go around for somebody of.
- 43:14Speaker 7: Life without them. My mom like my mom and still
- 43:18Speaker 7: we was. We was one of them kids. There was
- 43:20Speaker 7: a church Monday through Saturday, almost like growing up. Like
- 43:24Speaker 7: literally Saturday morning we're doing anycessory prayer. Sunday, we're at church.
- 43:29Speaker 7: Wednesday where at Bible study. If it's something going on
- 43:32Speaker 7: throughout the week where they need people to come volunteer
- 43:34Speaker 7: to put something together. The church, we were there. I
- 43:36Speaker 7: was on the praise team. I was mining babe church
- 43:59Speaker 7: to say tell that church up, the baby, white face
- 44:06Speaker 7: church up.
- 44:07Speaker 2: Did you have the black lip? No, a black lip?
- 44:11Speaker 2: I see people doing that now with the black child.
- 44:13Speaker 7: I had the black little I had the white face
- 44:16Speaker 7: with the gloves.
- 44:17Speaker 2: Baby put on what's that song? I used to do
- 44:20Speaker 2: forever every month? You brah me.
- 44:28Speaker 4: So she's telling y'all, if you got a ministry or
- 44:31Speaker 4: a school that need a mind ministry, she might have
- 44:33Speaker 4: to pull out her all.
- 44:34Speaker 7: I have all tire, but I will come and help.
- 44:39Speaker 7: But I have retired my gloves helping put up your gloves.
- 44:43Speaker 7: Get Oh, I forgot that they do her gloves.
- 44:46Speaker 2: Oh, that has took me. Okay, thank you for getting
- 44:49Speaker 2: us out of the York because we needed to laugh.
- 44:51Speaker 2: Is good for I'm telling I love to laugh. But
- 44:56Speaker 2: I love that. So I love that you're a woman
- 44:59Speaker 2: of God. I love that. I absolutely love that.
- 45:03Speaker 4: How I guess in in in in society's norms, right,
- 45:10Speaker 4: I would I would think that it's come it comes
- 45:12Speaker 4: a point where you have to make a solid decision
- 45:15Speaker 4: because that's you're a woman of God first versus what
- 45:19Speaker 4: you believe in politics, right, and so like when we
- 45:22Speaker 4: talk about the balance of that and we talk about
- 45:25Speaker 4: being being people of God, how do I.
- 45:31Speaker 2: Vote as a believer?
- 45:33Speaker 4: Like I know this voting thing, like it's a it's
- 45:35Speaker 4: a conversation, right, and the conversation in the Christian community,
- 45:38Speaker 4: right is I don't know who to vote for. I
- 45:41Speaker 4: should I'm leaning towards this we it's not even part
- 45:44Speaker 4: of the conversation.
- 45:44Speaker 2: I don't if you vote, vote for who you're gonna
- 45:46Speaker 2: vote for.
- 45:47Speaker 4: But how do I come to that solution of why
- 45:51Speaker 4: should I vote and who should I be voting for?
- 45:53Speaker 2: As a believer? One again, pray?
- 45:56Speaker 7: I feel like pray about everything and worry about nothing,
- 45:59Speaker 7: So one pray ask God for guidance. I feel like
- 46:01Speaker 7: it's nothing too small that you can go to God about.
- 46:04Speaker 7: I feel like sometimes we feel like we all was
- 46:06Speaker 7: supposed to go to God for the big things, like God,
- 46:08Speaker 7: I'm believing in this that even the small things God,
- 46:10Speaker 7: Who should I vote for?
- 46:12Speaker 2: Who is really not only talking to talk but walking
- 46:16Speaker 2: this walk?
- 46:17Speaker 7: Because again, that's why I don't like politicians sometimes because
- 46:20Speaker 7: I know they just say some some politicians do. We
- 46:23Speaker 7: say that, they say what they think we want to hear,
- 46:26Speaker 7: and then I would say, do your research, actually research
- 46:29Speaker 7: kennidates look at what they're talking about and say what who?
- 46:35Speaker 2: Who is aligned with my beliefs? Who's aligned with that?
- 46:39Speaker 7: And I think the decision is clear in this race
- 46:44Speaker 7: presidential race, but again, vote for who you want to
- 46:46Speaker 7: vote for. But I think the answer is clear about
- 46:49Speaker 7: who you should be voting for.
- 46:51Speaker 5: If you if you really do your research and really
- 47:00Speaker 5: just watch some interviews.
- 47:02Speaker 7: I think I think you would. It would be I
- 47:05Speaker 7: think God has made a plane.
- 47:07Speaker 4: What do you tell tell the person that says they
- 47:10Speaker 4: that they don't their vote doesn't matter, especially in like
- 47:14Speaker 4: a presidential candidcy, because I don't understand what is it
- 47:17Speaker 4: the yes, thank you saying saying that the mic so
- 47:21Speaker 4: the people can hear you, the electoral college, the electoral colleges.
- 47:24Speaker 4: I don't even understand for real how that works. Like
- 47:26Speaker 4: I said, I'm not into all of that. Yeah, And
- 47:29Speaker 4: they say, well, that's what really gets the president in
- 47:32Speaker 4: office and we don't matter.
- 47:34Speaker 7: What do you what's your response to that? So I
- 47:36Speaker 7: would say this, For example, we live in Alabama. Alabama
- 47:39Speaker 7: is a red state, so I already know our electoral
- 47:42Speaker 7: votes are going to go toward the red candidate, the Republican.
- 47:45Speaker 2: I do know that.
- 47:46Speaker 7: However, people have to realize that the power that the
- 47:50Speaker 7: president holds. So for example, although my electoral votes may
- 47:55Speaker 7: go toward him, when you vote and we hopefully get
- 48:00Speaker 7: the candidate I think is best. The president has so
- 48:03Speaker 7: much power as far as nominating, for example, Supreme Court justices.
- 48:08Speaker 7: And that's so important because we know this current Supreme
- 48:11Speaker 7: Court justices they took away they overturned a case Roe v. Wade,
- 48:17Speaker 7: and so that is a case that was in place
- 48:20Speaker 7: for fifty some years and now this Supreme Court took
- 48:24Speaker 7: that away.
- 48:26Speaker 2: And if a certain candidate.
- 48:28Speaker 7: Gets selected, they plan to put two more Supreme Court
- 48:31Speaker 7: justices on there that can also take away landmark cases.
- 48:35Speaker 7: And we think that certain things won't happen, but you
- 48:37Speaker 7: don't know. We're people like us can vote because of
- 48:42Speaker 7: the Voting's Right egg that was.
- 48:43Speaker 2: Passed by Congress.
- 48:45Speaker 7: Okay, but if you don't vote, we can potentially have
- 48:51Speaker 7: someone that say, you know what, we need to overturn
- 48:54Speaker 7: the voting Rights egg. We need the overturn Brown versus
- 48:58Speaker 7: Board of Education. We need the overturn you know what
- 49:00Speaker 7: I mean. Like, so it's a trickle down effect, is
- 49:02Speaker 7: what I'm trying to say. Like, you're not when you're
- 49:05Speaker 7: voting for that one person, it's so much other things
- 49:08Speaker 7: start are tied to that vote. You have one candidate
- 49:11Speaker 7: that is trying to take away the Department of Education
- 49:13Speaker 7: because they don't want it federally regulated because they're tied
- 49:17Speaker 7: of slavery being taught. They want to wipe away history.
- 49:22Speaker 4: I just learned that black history is not being taught
- 49:25Speaker 4: in the schools exactly.
- 49:26Speaker 7: And if they take away the Department of Education, that
- 49:29Speaker 7: federal regulation is not going to be taime. So things
- 49:33Speaker 7: like that where it's such a I wish people. What
- 49:38Speaker 7: I would say to the audience is when you cast
- 49:41Speaker 7: your ballot on November fifth, is so much more that
- 49:45Speaker 7: it's connected to that one vote.
- 49:47Speaker 2: Your vote, That one vote can potentially.
- 49:51Speaker 7: Say who's going to sit on our Supreme Court justice,
- 49:54Speaker 7: who's going to be our Secretary of State, who's going
- 49:57Speaker 7: to be over our Department of Education.
- 50:00Speaker 2: I mean, it's so much tied to that vote.
- 50:03Speaker 7: So I would say every vote matters, every vote counts.
- 50:08Speaker 7: So many people die trying to give us the right
- 50:10Speaker 7: to vote. So please don't take it for granted, because
- 50:13Speaker 7: if you take it for granted, it can easily be
- 50:14Speaker 7: given away, which one taken away, which one candidate has
- 50:18Speaker 7: said that that's what they're trying to do. He's literally saying,
- 50:21Speaker 7: just vote this one more time for me, and once
- 50:23Speaker 7: I get into president. Once I become the president again,
- 50:25Speaker 7: I'm going to take away like the democracy basically.
- 50:29Speaker 2: And it's going to turn into a dictatorship.
- 50:31Speaker 6: Basically and Layman's urns.
- 50:33Speaker 2: But I just heard it.
- 50:34Speaker 4: Look because for the folks that think like j Justica, okay,
- 50:37Speaker 4: the folks that get it on the plane line is
- 50:40Speaker 4: basically she's saying that it will turn into what do
- 50:45Speaker 4: you want versus this is how it's gonna be.
- 50:47Speaker 2: This how it's gonna be. You no longer will have
- 50:50Speaker 2: a choice.
- 50:51Speaker 7: It's a this is our king, this is our dictator,
- 50:55Speaker 7: and they're going to be making the rules for us.
- 50:59Speaker 7: Like other countries such as China or Russia, that's how
- 51:03Speaker 7: they're operated. We in the United States, we have the freedoms,
- 51:07Speaker 7: but those freedoms can easily be taken away. One We
- 51:10Speaker 7: didn't always have these freedoms. Remember that now, and don't
- 51:14Speaker 7: take it for granted that just because we're in the
- 51:16Speaker 7: year of tweeny twenty four that it will remain that way.
- 51:19Speaker 7: We have to continue to exercise our right to vote
- 51:22Speaker 7: in order to keep those freedoms.
- 51:25Speaker 2: That's that's good.
- 51:25Speaker 4: That's good, A good answer to like digest as to
- 51:32Speaker 4: take it because it is, like like I said, I
- 51:34Speaker 4: think I think some we, if we really real about it,
- 51:37Speaker 4: a lot of us are just confused. Like it's a
- 51:40Speaker 4: lot of just confusion with how everything works. And I know,
- 51:43Speaker 4: like Ricky Smile is really big on like pushing the
- 51:46Speaker 4: local votes as well, so locally on this, I know
- 51:50Speaker 4: we talk about nationally locally what should we be looking
- 51:52Speaker 4: for in this on November fifth? Because I know, my girl,
- 51:56Speaker 4: we gotta get down with yes.
- 51:59Speaker 7: So I say, I say, local elections definitely matter because
- 52:03Speaker 7: who will you see more in your lifetime?
- 52:05Speaker 2: Me or the president? Yeah, and so on.
- 52:09Speaker 7: On the local level, you nominate or you elect rather
- 52:13Speaker 7: the sheriff, you elect the district attorney, you elect the judges,
- 52:18Speaker 7: you elect the county commissioners. And then if you want
- 52:21Speaker 7: to get even on a more local level next year
- 52:24Speaker 7: are municipal races, so that'll be mayor your city councilmen.
- 52:28Speaker 7: So I definitely say, I say, I don't care if
- 52:30Speaker 7: it's a somebody running for a dog catcher in my neighborhood.
- 52:33Speaker 2: I'm voting.
- 52:35Speaker 7: I'm voting for everything. Okay, I'm going to exercise my
- 52:38Speaker 7: rights to vote because it literally affects your day to
- 52:42Speaker 7: day life. You know, for me being a judge, my
- 52:45Speaker 7: particular seat. When I have the victory on November fifth,
- 52:50Speaker 7: declaring it amen, Amen, my particular seat, I'll handle everything
- 52:55Speaker 7: from a traffic ticket all the way up to Class
- 52:57Speaker 7: A felonies, which will be attempted murder robbery cases. So
- 53:03Speaker 7: one thing that I think won't circling back to where
- 53:05Speaker 7: we're talking about the gun violence is drugs.
- 53:07Speaker 2: Drugs is connected to that.
- 53:09Speaker 7: My position, I would be over the Drui Court program.
- 53:13Speaker 7: So that's also something that I'm very passionate about because
- 53:16Speaker 7: a lot of times we send people to wei. I'll
- 53:19Speaker 7: say that we as in the criminal justice system, send
- 53:22Speaker 7: people to prison that are battling drug additions. That's not
- 53:25Speaker 7: going to help because drugs are in the prison system.
- 53:28Speaker 7: So what do we do to try to battle these
- 53:30Speaker 7: drug additions. Well, I will be off the Druid Court program,
- 53:32Speaker 7: which is a it's a process where they'll have to test.
- 53:36Speaker 7: It's certain things that they'll have to do, and then
- 53:38Speaker 7: they'll be able to graduate saying I've been a year
- 53:40Speaker 7: or something drug free.
- 53:43Speaker 2: I also connect them with jobs.
- 53:45Speaker 7: A lot of times people feel like they don't have
- 53:47Speaker 7: anything to lose because they don't have jobs. I'll be
- 53:50Speaker 7: able to connect them to getting their ged. So it's
- 53:53Speaker 7: a lot that a judge can do other than just
- 53:56Speaker 7: going through the dockets sentenced people. You know, you can
- 53:59Speaker 7: be a true public servant on that bench.
- 54:02Speaker 4: You just said something that makes so much sense and
- 54:05Speaker 4: shout out to TikTok, you know, because TikTok will giving
- 54:07Speaker 4: you some information.
- 54:08Speaker 2: So I don't even watch the news. Yeah, like, let
- 54:12Speaker 2: me give you information.
- 54:13Speaker 4: I saw this clip on TikTok of the judge or
- 54:16Speaker 4: judge and uh, someone that was I guess that he
- 54:19Speaker 4: was supposed to be going to jail or whatever, and
- 54:22Speaker 4: he said some of the things you just brought up.
- 54:23Speaker 4: He was like, Hey, you need to go get your
- 54:26Speaker 4: g ed and if you don't, go get your ged,
- 54:28Speaker 4: and I need to see the progression of that. I
- 54:31Speaker 4: need to see that you've applied. I need you to
- 54:32Speaker 4: see so you passing certain tests. I need to see that.
- 54:35Speaker 4: And I'm gonna have you here every two weeks until
- 54:37Speaker 4: you get it done. And if you pissed, if your
- 54:40Speaker 4: pissed ain't clean, said your piss ain't clean, I'm tending
- 54:44Speaker 4: you to jail. This is your way out. And that
- 54:46Speaker 4: that brought my heart so much joy. And so what
- 54:51Speaker 4: what I'm gonna say. What Judge Brown is saying, yes,
- 54:54Speaker 4: is that as as and her leadership, her goal is
- 54:58Speaker 4: to make sure that we're giving help and not hindering
- 55:02Speaker 4: lifestyles just based off of decision, based off of a
- 55:07Speaker 4: bad moment, a bad season and life. We're believing in restoration.
- 55:12Speaker 4: And that is how the Woman of God is going
- 55:14Speaker 4: to bring the Kingdom to the court.
- 55:16Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, go ahead, Kingdom the court.
- 55:23Speaker 8: Yes, yay, listen, should say I have thoroughly enjoyed you.
- 55:36Speaker 4: And I know listen, I know, I know, I know,
- 55:42Speaker 4: I know it, and that's what I'm about to say it.
- 55:45Speaker 4: I said that you would Judge Shanty Brown for a reason.
- 55:48Speaker 4: Your heart is in the right place God. The Kingdom
- 55:51Speaker 4: needs you, then the Kingdom needs you position and so
- 55:54Speaker 4: I back you. That's why you're here on this platform.
- 55:57Speaker 4: I can't vote for the Woman of God because I'm
- 55:58Speaker 4: not in the district, but I want you to vote
- 56:01Speaker 4: for you live in Jefferson County.
- 56:02Speaker 2: I don't live in Jefferson County.
- 56:04Speaker 6: I don't live.
- 56:07Speaker 4: I don't live in Jefferson County, but I know plenty
- 56:10Speaker 4: of you that do, and so I need for you
- 56:13Speaker 4: to cast your ballots, make sure you vote, and make
- 56:19Speaker 4: sure you vote for her down.
- 56:25Speaker 2: As right. Did you have something to say? Are you good?
- 56:29Speaker 2: Go vote?
- 56:30Speaker 4: Yes?
- 56:31Speaker 2: Go vote.
- 56:32Speaker 4: Now. There's a tradition here, just as the podcast, where
- 56:36Speaker 4: we allow you to leave your final thoughts if there's
- 56:39Speaker 4: nothing that we've talked about several things with your life,
- 56:42Speaker 4: the transition about voting and all that stuff like that,
- 56:44Speaker 4: but if there was something burning on the inside of
- 56:47Speaker 4: you to make sure you released that that you want
- 56:49Speaker 4: to leave with the people, I want to give you
- 56:52Speaker 4: the opportunity to do that.
- 56:53Speaker 7: Okay, right now, okay, right now. Look I was so
- 56:59Speaker 7: I'm like, okay.
- 57:01Speaker 2: I would say this.
- 57:03Speaker 7: I think Jessica has talked about my perseverance and how
- 57:06Speaker 7: I was able to get through everything, and I know
- 57:08Speaker 7: that I was able to do that by staying in
- 57:10Speaker 7: my lane. Jeremiah twenty nine to eleven is one of
- 57:14Speaker 7: my favorite scriptures for I know the plans that I
- 57:17Speaker 7: have for you, and because I know God has a
- 57:19Speaker 7: plan for me, I don't care about you know, don't
- 57:22Speaker 7: focus on the plans that he has for Jessica for
- 57:24Speaker 7: anyone else. Focused on the plans that God has for you,
- 57:28Speaker 7: hear from him, and I premise you're going to see
- 57:30Speaker 7: it manifest in your life. So just focus on your lane.
- 57:34Speaker 7: That's all.
- 57:35Speaker 2: That's what I would say. That's where I leave you with.
- 57:37Speaker 6: Amen, focus on your lane, your lane.
- 57:41Speaker 2: Listen.
- 57:42Speaker 4: I'm down for Shantay Brown. I hope you're down for
- 57:44Speaker 4: Shantay Brown. And until next week, go catch catch the votes,
- 57:49Speaker 4: November Field, and let's make this happen.
- 57:52Speaker 2: Okay, Kingdom.
- 57:54Speaker 4: Kingdom has to be here on earth and we only
- 57:56Speaker 4: we're the people that I operate in that.
- 57:59Speaker 6: Okay, Love you guys. We'll see you next week.
- 58:02Speaker 4: Until then, remember life could be much more simple if
- 58:06Speaker 4: you just ask Yay.
- 58:14Speaker 1: Thank you for tuning in to this week's episode. Since
- 58:17Speaker 1: you've made it this far, you might as well connect
- 58:20Speaker 1: with us on all social media platforms at the Jessica S.
- 58:23Speaker 2: Smith.
- 58:24Speaker 1: I know I won't see you back until next week,
- 58:27Speaker 1: but until then, remember to love always yourself and always.
- 58:33Speaker 3: Thank thank God for one another day. Hey, hey, I
- 58:39Speaker 3: know we could be another way. Hey, pray thank God
- 58:45Speaker 3: for another day. Hey Hey, I'm just thankful for another day.
- 58:53Speaker 3: Hey hey another day? Oh another day? Why is another day?
- 58:59Speaker 5: To get it?
- 58:59Speaker 3: Right, the day that rise up, another day, living another day.
- 59:03Speaker 3: We loved ones I always remember holding down for a
- 59:05Speaker 3: ball one yep.
