- 31:47Speaker 6: to introduce a dear friend of mine, somebody who I
- 31:51Speaker 6: have had the great privilege of collaborating with dating back
- 31:55Speaker 6: to a White House album that we did with President
- 31:59Speaker 6: Obah to help fight bullying out there. And Brother Ragender
- 32:03Speaker 6: has been on the scene. Of course we all know
- 32:06Speaker 6: him as the violin player extraordinaire, but I just love
- 32:10Speaker 6: where he's going into his career and he's here to
- 32:12Speaker 6: talk about his brand new single with us today. Brother Raginder,
- 32:16Speaker 6: Welcome to the show. What up, Amy, Thanks for having me.
- 32:20Speaker 19: I'm so glad to be here.
- 32:21Speaker 6: So nice to have you on.
- 32:23Speaker 7: And first of all, congratulations on this great career that
- 32:26Speaker 7: you're in the middle of right now. And I've seen
- 32:29Speaker 7: through the vantage point of being a fan and being
- 32:32Speaker 7: here in California, in North America watching your career.
- 32:36Speaker 6: What a story man, great stuff you've been doing.
- 32:39Speaker 19: Thank you man. Thank You's just a blessing that I
- 32:41Speaker 19: get to do what I love. And I'm glad that
- 32:44Speaker 19: you know we are getting to California.
- 32:46Speaker 2: Love from you too.
- 32:47Speaker 6: It's always brother, all right.
- 32:49Speaker 7: So you got the single do You Love Me? My
- 32:51Speaker 7: first reaction to it very progressive. First of all, an
- 32:55Speaker 7: amazing track, and you have taken the microphone again and
- 33:00Speaker 7: it's a wonderful space as you kind of add to
- 33:04Speaker 7: the musical genius that you always provide on the work
- 33:07Speaker 7: that you do, and you've taken it into like this
- 33:09Speaker 7: new layer.
- 33:10Speaker 6: Man, tell us what it's like to be the singer
- 33:12Speaker 6: ruck In there.
- 33:14Speaker 14: Man.
- 33:15Speaker 30: It's pretty interesting because like I've been singing all my life,
- 33:18Speaker 30: Like I actually learned how to sing before I learned
- 33:22Speaker 30: how to play the violin. So it's been a lifelong
- 33:26Speaker 30: journey for me.
- 33:27Speaker 19: And you know, my first couple of years I was
- 33:30Speaker 19: when I.
- 33:30Speaker 30: Was recording music and putting it out, it was mainly
- 33:33Speaker 30: just violent, but I've always been singing, and even into
- 33:37Speaker 30: like the last five years of my career, I've put
- 33:39Speaker 30: out projects of myself singing and it's you know, it's nothing.
- 33:44Speaker 19: New at this point, but you know, for me, what
- 33:47Speaker 19: this song represents is like a step into a different
- 33:53Speaker 19: direction lyrically.
- 33:54Speaker 30: You know, I've been experimenting with English lyrics, R and
- 33:57Speaker 30: B sounds, but you know, I think I finally come
- 34:00Speaker 30: home into what feels like myself at my core, and
- 34:04Speaker 30: that is Punjabi music and Punjabi lyrics.
- 34:07Speaker 6: Yeah, and that is what do you love Me?
- 34:10Speaker 20: Is?
- 34:11Speaker 6: Okay, let's now let's talk about the producer that is
- 34:15Speaker 6: rug In there, right, you are a musician, you're an instrumentalist,
- 34:21Speaker 6: you're a vocalist, and then it takes a different type
- 34:23Speaker 6: of a brain to go and take a step back
- 34:26Speaker 6: and take perspective over not only the actual process of
- 34:29Speaker 6: it all, but the creative output. The producer rug in
- 34:34Speaker 6: there tell us about that man right there.
- 34:38Speaker 30: I mean, the producer also has been within me for like,
- 34:43Speaker 30: you know, since childhood, of course, and I think part
- 34:45Speaker 30: of that is, like, you know, my dad is a composer,
- 34:47Speaker 30: and I've seen him compose and that was like my
- 34:51Speaker 30: inner world of just seeing how something gets made from scratch.
- 34:55Speaker 30: And also, like when I was growing up, I used
- 34:57Speaker 30: to love listening to just instrumentals of.
- 35:00Speaker 19: Hip hop music. So I would go on Lime wire
- 35:03Speaker 19: and just download.
- 35:04Speaker 30: Like Timblin instrumentals for real instrumentals, DJ Premiere. So for me,
- 35:10Speaker 30: like music at its core was always like like the
- 35:15Speaker 30: most important thing to me. I always cared about the instrumentation,
- 35:18Speaker 30: the orchestration behind the song, and I've always wanted to
- 35:21Speaker 30: create something of my own.
- 35:23Speaker 19: And so production is like something that.
- 35:26Speaker 30: I've been doing since high school and I've like taken
- 35:29Speaker 30: classes and you know, university to get better at it,
- 35:32Speaker 30: and you know, over the years, I started making my
- 35:34Speaker 30: own original music, and you know, it's been a blessing
- 35:37Speaker 30: that people have embraced it and they've embraced my sound,
- 35:42Speaker 30: which you know, it took a couple of years of craft,
- 35:44Speaker 30: but I'm kind of glad to say that as a producer,
- 35:47Speaker 30: I've kind of bridged the world between you know, the
- 35:51Speaker 30: Indian classical stuff I do on the violin, the pungobul lyrics,
- 35:54Speaker 30: and then the more progressive and like the dialist das
- 35:58Speaker 30: or element of my life is in reproduction.
- 36:02Speaker 7: It's well put right there, and which was going to
- 36:04Speaker 7: prompt my next question, and that has everything to do
- 36:08Speaker 7: with the sound design that you adopt on the song.
- 36:11Speaker 6: You've taken on what I would consider a very universal
- 36:14Speaker 6: sound and that is this EDM dance kind of focus,
- 36:17Speaker 6: but you've taken Punjabi lyrics and you've taken this musical
- 36:21Speaker 6: sensibility into this new direction. Tell us about the design
- 36:25Speaker 6: of that and what inspired this direction for you.
- 36:30Speaker 22: So last year I was.
- 36:32Speaker 30: At a lot of events that were playing electronic music,
- 36:36Speaker 30: and I'm also my side project that I'm a duo of,
- 36:41Speaker 30: like it's called The Span, and.
- 36:42Speaker 19: That's also an electronic project.
- 36:44Speaker 30: Right.
- 36:44Speaker 19: So electronic music has always been a part of my.
- 36:47Speaker 30: Life and last year I really got immerged to it.
- 36:50Speaker 30: But for this track specifically, I'd like to like just
- 36:54Speaker 30: pay him a lodge to the UK guarage stuff we heard,
- 36:58Speaker 30: you know with from Jabe music and.
- 36:59Speaker 19: The eight nineties and early two thousands.
- 37:02Speaker 30: Yeah, I like, unknowingly like made this stuff, and you know,
- 37:07Speaker 30: somewhere within me, like deep inside me.
- 37:10Speaker 19: This was the core of it because when we were
- 37:12Speaker 19: going up late nineties, early two thousands, this was the
- 37:15Speaker 19: soundtrack for so.
- 37:15Speaker 30: Many Punjabies living in a diaspora right right, and somewhere
- 37:20Speaker 30: within me when I made music. I don't know where
- 37:22Speaker 30: these things come out of, but they just come out
- 37:24Speaker 30: and then maybe I just start realizing later that oh,
- 37:27Speaker 30: this was the source and this was where it came from.
- 37:30Speaker 30: And obviously you know there's my own twist to it
- 37:32Speaker 30: as well, but I always like to pay aline to
- 37:36Speaker 30: the people that haven't done it before, and you know,
- 37:38Speaker 30: this is just my version of what has been like
- 37:41Speaker 30: created into the universe.
- 37:44Speaker 7: Tell us about about this brand new EP that you're
- 37:47Speaker 7: about to drop. It's very exciting. First of all, you're
- 37:50Speaker 7: looking to you know, drop it here in the coming weeks,
- 37:54Speaker 7: I want us, I want us to know when exactly
- 37:56Speaker 7: you'll be dropping it and tell us why you decided
- 38:00Speaker 7: to call it becoming.
- 38:03Speaker 19: So the EP I'm really excited for it, and.
- 38:09Speaker 30: I think the title becoming is just you know, me
- 38:12Speaker 30: coming into my own but also just accepting and being.
- 38:19Speaker 19: My highest self, you know, and there's always going to
- 38:22Speaker 19: be a higher.
- 38:23Speaker 30: Self beyond that. But you know, at this point, I've
- 38:27Speaker 30: come to embrace that when I make music, the thing
- 38:31Speaker 30: that is most important to me is to spread love,
- 38:35Speaker 30: and not just love in a way like oh I
- 38:37Speaker 30: love this person or that. This is more about universal love,
- 38:41Speaker 30: and Becoming is all about, you know, spreading love to
- 38:45Speaker 30: everything around us that you know is an existence, and
- 38:49Speaker 30: that's what even do You Love Me is? Do you
- 38:50Speaker 30: Love Me? Sounds like a love song, but I like
- 38:53Speaker 30: to attribute it to what we hear, you know in
- 38:56Speaker 30: Kalis and Sushi is about love for the divine, love
- 39:00Speaker 30: for the universe, and so that's kind of what I
- 39:02Speaker 30: wanted to challenge channel into Becoming as well as do
- 39:07Speaker 30: You Love Me?
- 39:08Speaker 19: And so I'm really excited for people to hear the
- 39:10Speaker 19: next chapter. There's some sounds that people.
- 39:14Speaker 30: Are familiar with in my catalog, but there's also some
- 39:18Speaker 30: sounds that are a little new, so you know, but
- 39:20Speaker 30: there's all encompassing of who I am and where I
- 39:23Speaker 30: am at this point in my life, and so I'm
- 39:26Speaker 30: really excited for everyone to hear it.
- 39:27Speaker 19: It's coming out in the end of May, and do
- 39:30Speaker 19: You Love Me is the one to kick it off.
- 39:32Speaker 7: Well, I think there's no better prompt for us to
- 39:36Speaker 7: take the microphone and hand it over to you and say,
- 39:39Speaker 7: brother again there, please do the honors. First of all,
- 39:41Speaker 7: thanks for joining us today, what a great conversation, Thanks
