- 0:07Speaker 3: The world's original podcast.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota.com. The Jets have
- 0:21Speaker 2: a good defense.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Yeah, they do.
- 0:23Speaker 2: They don't.
- 0:24Speaker 4: They don't cover kicks well, and they don't make their
- 0:26Speaker 4: field goals. I was thinking a lot, too, when I
- 0:28Speaker 4: was talking about, like, in my mind, like, what was
- 0:30Speaker 4: that guy up on that kickoff return?
- 0:32Speaker 2: Big-time hidden yards. Yeah. Look at me talking special teams.
- 0:36Speaker 2: I know. I don't care. Prep is a little frustrated, though.
- 0:38Speaker 4: Run plays that result in three-yard gains sometimes excite him,
- 0:42Speaker 4: and then other times he just decides, you know, I
- 0:45Speaker 4: don't know, what are we even doing out here today?
- 0:47Speaker 2: Unlike you, Paul, I wanted to blow up. Can't blow
- 0:49Speaker 2: him out. Forget it. What would you give up for
- 0:51Speaker 2: Quentin Nelson? Trade for Quentin Nelson.
- 0:53Speaker 5: Now we're going to have three guards that we're paying
- 0:55Speaker 5: big money to.
- 0:56Speaker 2: One of them is going to move from left to right.
- 0:58Speaker 6: Oh, Evan.
- 1:00Speaker 2: I mean, are we going to? So, no, you wouldn't. So,
- 1:01Speaker 2: just the answer is no. You don't have to, like,
- 1:04Speaker 2: disgrace me. This is Patriots Unfiltered. Presented by Toyota.com. Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:11Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Wednesday here at Gillette Stadium.
- 1:16Speaker 2: And it's the day before a game. Saturday. Yeah, it's
- 1:21Speaker 2: a Saturday. It's like Friday and Saturday. So we're doing P.U.
- 1:23Speaker 2: on a Saturday on a Wednesday before Thursday game. It's Evan,
- 1:27Speaker 2: it's Paul, it's me, it's Deuce, it's Alex, it's Matt
- 1:30Speaker 2: in the booth, and today's a special day because it's
- 1:32Speaker 2: happy birthday, Alex.
- 1:34Speaker 7: Oh, look at that.
- 1:35Speaker 8: I didn't mention it yet, so I was hoping he wouldn't.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Acknowledge okay okay so you're not one of these people
- 1:41Speaker 2: where your birthday is important to you well we already
- 1:43Speaker 2: did have a party for we didn't have cupcakes mike had.
- 1:46Speaker 9: About three okay but they were mini cupcakes but do
- 1:49Speaker 9: you he's like 12 is your birthday a big thing
- 1:52Speaker 9: for you because you know some people don't care some
- 1:53Speaker 9: people think it's the most important day in the count
- 1:56Speaker 9: the calendar.
- 1:56Speaker 6: It's not a big thing for me historically like it's
- 1:59Speaker 6: always been a celebration because one of my close friends
- 2:02Speaker 6: is a couple days after me so like At this point,
- 2:05Speaker 6: it's like an excuse to get together and you see
- 2:07Speaker 6: each other. So that's more of the why it's a
- 2:09Speaker 6: big deal than just no.
- 2:11Speaker 2: 32, man. You don't insist that your boyfriend make sure
- 2:17Speaker 2: that he's honoring your birthday and all that stuff?
- 2:20Speaker 8: I'm not like a birthday month, birthday week person.
- 2:23Speaker 2: There's a lead up. I hope he's doing something for
- 2:25Speaker 2: your birthday, though.
- 2:26Speaker 8: Well, yeah, of course.
- 2:28Speaker 6: But I told Deuce and Evan when I got in,
- 2:30Speaker 6: I was like, guys, this is the first birthday that
- 2:32Speaker 6: I was like, I'm not that thrilled.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Yeah, welcome.
- 2:35Speaker 8: It's my birthday today. It's the first one.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Oh, is this 30? 32? No, no, it's not 32.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Come on. 30 was fun.
- 2:43Speaker 8: You can't say it.
- 2:44Speaker 2: 94?
- 2:44Speaker 3: 94? Yeah.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Are you.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Is your clock ticking? For what? You know, babies.
- 2:56Speaker 8: No, I feel like I'm very healthy.
- 2:57Speaker 6: I feel like my biological age is probably like in
- 3:00Speaker 6: my early 20s.
- 3:00Speaker 8: I feel like I'm pretty good there.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Okay. You don't have to answer my question. Yeah, that's inappropriate.
- 3:07Speaker 7: I'm not happy with that.
- 3:08Speaker 1: HR.
- 3:09Speaker 7: I'm not happy with it.
- 3:10Speaker 2: I told you. Go ahead. Call HR.
- 3:12Speaker 7: You're the straw that stirs the drink.
- 3:14Speaker 2: We need you.
- 3:14Speaker 8: Wait, I laughed at your T-shirt that you talked about.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Yeah, you like that? Yeah, I do. I'll wear that
- 3:20Speaker 2: to work. All right. Yeah, we're talking Chicago Bears because
- 3:26Speaker 2: that's who the Patriots are playing tomorrow night in Chicago.
- 3:30Speaker 2: I have an unpopular opinion. Okay. I'm not a player, so...
- 3:36Speaker 2: This doesn't really affect me, but I kind of like
- 3:39Speaker 2: short weeks. Oh, yeah, me too.
- 3:40Speaker 4: I like these Thursday night weeks. I don't like Thursday
- 3:43Speaker 4: games in general. Just like if the game was over,
- 3:46Speaker 4: you know, Monday, we sort of talk about the game
- 3:48Speaker 4: a little bit.
- 3:48Speaker 7: Tuesday, it's on to Chicago.
- 3:50Speaker 2: And there we go.
- 3:52Speaker 7: It's here. Mike Vrabel talked Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. That's it
- 3:55Speaker 7: for the week. Like, I just.
- 3:58Speaker 2: I'm not a player.
- 3:59Speaker 4: I don't have to rebound from, like I said, 60
- 4:03Speaker 4: car crashes on Sunday and then do it again on Thursday.
- 4:05Speaker 4: I hate it for the players. I hate it for
- 4:07Speaker 4: the quality of football and the league and all that,
- 4:10Speaker 4: but covering the game?
- 4:12Speaker 2: I kind of like a short week. That's a horrible time.
- 4:15Speaker 7: I said it's unpopular.
- 4:17Speaker 2: I started off by saying it was unpopular. It's unpopular
- 4:21Speaker 2: and selfish. The amount of cramming that... It doesn't matter.
- 4:25Speaker 2: I don't matter. I fully admit that. Is there a test?
- 4:29Speaker 8: Paul's living large.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Evan is studying for his finals. That is true. I
- 4:33Speaker 2: do not write anymore.
- 4:37Speaker 5: It's not only that, but being the road team on
- 4:40Speaker 5: Thursday night is really, really difficult.
- 4:42Speaker 2: It's just all bad. I did say it was an
- 4:44Speaker 2: unpopular opinion. But I can see where Paul's coming from.
- 4:49Speaker 2: As a fan, you have your game on Sunday, and
- 4:51Speaker 2: then there's another one on Thursday. And then you get
- 4:54Speaker 2: the weekend off. Yeah.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I thought it was interesting how Vrabel put it
- 4:56Speaker 1: yesterday with the players of, like, you just have to
- 4:58Speaker 1: trust that your body's going to feel better and you
- 5:00Speaker 1: just go about your mental preparations, try not to get,
- 5:04Speaker 1: you know, distracted with the fact that you're still kind
- 5:06Speaker 1: of in recovery from the game. So hard for them.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Hopefully they can pull it together. Not too long of
- 5:11Speaker 1: a flight for you guys.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Hard for all of us.
- 5:14Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Okay. All right. Thoughts and prayers. Thank you. So since
- 5:20Speaker 2: it is Wednesday, there will be no PU tomorrow on Thursday,
- 5:24Speaker 2: but of course there will be a pre- and a
- 5:25Speaker 2: post-game show. So that means picks today. Picks today. At
- 5:30Speaker 2: the end of the show. And we'll all be here, right? No. No.
- 5:34Speaker 7: Evan's going to have to leave to get to.
- 5:36Speaker 2: The locker room. I thought the locker room was later.
- 5:38Speaker 2: It's 1230. 1230. Vrabel's a little later. Vrabel's later. Vrabel's
- 5:42Speaker 2: after practice today. Oh, after practice. I get it. Okay.
- 5:45Speaker 1: So we'll still lose Evan, but we'll have our usual clue.
- 5:48Speaker 1: We'll also have the co-pilot question of the week.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Oh, I forgot. Oh, great. I don't really have any
- 5:53Speaker 2: quiz for you. That's probably smart for you. Keep us
- 5:56Speaker 2: all out of trouble. Okay. Yeah, before we get in,
- 6:00Speaker 2: we talked a lot about the game. There's a lot
- 6:01Speaker 2: of NFL stuff going on. Oh, man. Not good stuff.
- 6:04Speaker 4: Not good stuff at all. That Tennessee situation, scary.
- 6:08Speaker 2: So I was going to go on X and comment
- 6:10Speaker 2: about this, and I figured I better not do that,
- 6:13Speaker 2: but I'll do it here. What the hell?
- 6:15Speaker 7: Like, so, you know, with hundreds of thousands of people
- 6:18Speaker 7: listening as opposed to, you know, 20,000 followers.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Aaron Wilson had sort of, you know, he's kind of
- 6:25Speaker 2: tied in to the league and the Titans and everything.
- 6:28Speaker 2: So he said that the report is that the guy who,
- 6:32Speaker 2: you know, was kicked off the team had a dispute
- 6:36Speaker 2: with his teammate and went to his car to get
- 6:39Speaker 2: his gun.
- 6:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:41Speaker 2: And boom, you know.
- 6:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:43Speaker 2: And evidently, John Franklin Myers was the hero. He kind
- 6:47Speaker 2: of talked him down. He escalated it. So I get
- 6:51Speaker 2: what the Titans had to do and why they did
- 6:54Speaker 2: it and all that. But here's the thing. I guess
- 6:57Speaker 2: the report said that he was having off-the-field issues. So
- 7:01Speaker 2: now he has these off-the-field issues. He decides to go
- 7:04Speaker 2: get a gun because he's upset with his teammate. We
- 7:07Speaker 2: kick him off the team. Now what? Are we just
- 7:09Speaker 2: going to let him go? walk away and hope for
- 7:11Speaker 2: the best? Or is somebody reaching out to get him
- 7:14Speaker 2: some help? I don't know. Maybe there is, but I
- 7:19Speaker 2: hope it's not just see you later, buddy. And that's it.
- 7:24Speaker 2: I hope there's some outreach happening for this guy who
- 7:28Speaker 2: is having issues to the point where he felt he
- 7:32Speaker 2: needed to get a gun for his teammate. And now
- 7:34Speaker 2: he loses his job. Now he lost his job. You're escalating.
- 7:38Speaker 2: So I hope that there's some Outreach to this guy.
- 7:42Speaker 2: That's all I have to say. Yeah, I agree. That's tough. Very.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Very scary. That's all. All right. And then Bill's had
- 7:52Speaker 2: another guy suspended. Spitgate.
- 7:54Speaker 4: Yeah, he's vehemently fighting it, though.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Okay.
- 7:58Speaker 4: And I saw a clip of the play. He gets
- 8:02Speaker 4: a shot down in the nether regions.
- 8:05Speaker 2: From the Raider.
- 8:06Speaker 4: And I'm not sure if that guy got any kind of.
- 8:09Speaker 4: fine or anything, but he definitely hit him low. Did
- 8:13Speaker 4: a Channing Crowder.
- 8:14Speaker 2: So he retaliated and he got caught?
- 8:16Speaker 4: He says he didn't spit. He turned and clearly goes
- 8:20Speaker 4: back at the guy. You cannot tell. The clips that
- 8:23Speaker 4: people are putting online, the all 22s, you can't tell.
- 8:26Speaker 4: It's not close enough.
- 8:28Speaker 2: To see if he spits.
- 8:29Speaker 5: This isn't like a Jalen Carter situation where you saw
- 8:31Speaker 5: the loogie going across.
- 8:33Speaker 7: You could clearly see CJ got to Johnson.
- 8:36Speaker 6: I've also seen other players not involved in that game
- 8:39Speaker 6: coming forward and say, Oh yeah, he's done this to
- 8:41Speaker 6: me too.
- 8:42Speaker 8: And attach their photos.
- 8:44Speaker 7: Like Gardner Johnson.
- 8:45Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 8:46Speaker 2: He's outed.
- 8:47Speaker 7: I said it.
- 8:48Speaker 4: I would have Joe Brady, I think had a great
- 8:50Speaker 4: opportunity to make a stand and grab control of his
- 8:53Speaker 4: team and, and cut that guy. Uh, when they got
- 8:55Speaker 4: home on Sunday night, he, instead he, he's standing by him,
- 8:59Speaker 4: which I think is a mistake.
- 9:00Speaker 2: The other guy, he says he didn't spit.
- 9:02Speaker 4: I don't, I mean, I don't know this. I haven't
- 9:04Speaker 4: seen any, the video evidence of that, but he's fighting it.
- 9:08Speaker 4: Because he gets suspended for that.
- 9:10Speaker 2: Sure.
- 9:11Speaker 7: It's not just a fine.
- 9:12Speaker 12: No.
- 9:12Speaker 2: He's losing a game check. Yep.
- 9:14Speaker 12: Yep.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Well, he should.
- 9:16Speaker 7: Animals.
- 9:17Speaker 4: Well, Gardner Johnson absolutely deserves it. I mean, that was
- 9:20Speaker 4: clear as day.
- 9:20Speaker 2: He spit. Yep. Yep. You spit, you lose a game.
- 9:24Speaker 2: You lose a game check. There's no place for that
- 9:26Speaker 2: on the field. I mean, come on. Third graders. Even
- 9:31Speaker 2: third graders shouldn't do it, if you're listening.
- 9:34Speaker 7: Have you ever spit at anybody in your life?
- 9:35Speaker 2: I have. Oh. When I was a kid. Yeah, when
- 9:38Speaker 2: I was a kid. I did it. Not proud of it,
- 9:41Speaker 2: but I did it. I mean, you know, back in
- 9:44Speaker 2: my day, crap like that happened on the schoolyard all
- 9:47Speaker 2: the time. On the schoolyard. You know, that's where things
- 9:49Speaker 2: were settled.
- 9:50Speaker 7: Frontier justice.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Yeah, things were settled among, you know, you didn't have
- 9:55Speaker 2: parents getting involved and, you know, all kinds of crap happened.
- 10:01Speaker 2: Like I said, I'm not proud of it, but that's
- 10:03Speaker 2: the way it was. I'm not proud of a lot
- 10:04Speaker 2: of things they've done, but I never spit on anybody.
- 10:06Speaker 1: I never really even saw anybody spit on anybody in
- 10:09Speaker 1: any of my sports experiences.
- 10:11Speaker 8: I've seen it.
- 10:13Speaker 2: A lady spit? Yeah. Yeah. The lady, this doesn't surprise me.
- 10:19Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 10:19Speaker 2: You guys get scrappy.
- 10:20Speaker 8: I almost just dropped a name, but I'm not going.
- 10:22Speaker 2: To do that. Okay. Not Ronald Robinson.
- 10:25Speaker 8: There's some wild girls that I went to high school with.
- 10:27Speaker 5: The one that always gets me is the pulling of
- 10:30Speaker 5: the hair.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Well, that's a knee.
- 10:32Speaker 8: It's just going to happen.
- 10:33Speaker 2: It's just going to happen.
- 10:34Speaker 5: You just sometimes just pull it like in soccer and
- 10:37Speaker 5: stuff like that, especially.
- 10:38Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Like, they're good. Yeah, they're good.
- 10:41Speaker 8: There's no way around it.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Girl fights were the best in high school.
- 10:43Speaker 8: You just have to learn how to fight when your
- 10:44Speaker 8: hair is being pulled.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Yeah. You do, like, the whimmel, right? That's, like... Yeah.
- 10:49Speaker 8: You figure it out. I don't know.
- 10:51Speaker 2: I remember a girl fight in the hallway of my
- 10:55Speaker 2: high school, and it, like, happened so fast. It was, like,
- 10:58Speaker 2: two cats just, like... And they were, like, on each other. And, like,
- 11:02Speaker 2: a teacher came and pulled them apart and everything. It
- 11:04Speaker 2: was cool.
- 11:05Speaker 7: It was cool. I'm telling you.
- 11:07Speaker 2: It's a girl fight. It's a girl fight.
- 11:09Speaker 8: Girls beat the crap out of each other.
- 11:11Speaker 12: Oh, yeah.
- 11:11Speaker 8: I feel like girls' soccer, too, is so physical.
- 11:14Speaker 6: Like, there's, like, a bunch of physical altercations happening throughout
- 11:18Speaker 6: the game.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 11:20Speaker 5: Like, I think worse than boys' soccer. Like, girls' soccer gets, like,
- 11:24Speaker 5: really crazy.
- 11:25Speaker 2: But I will say the opposite on the spectrum for
- 11:27Speaker 2: me is like, I love girls hockey is boys. Hockey
- 11:29Speaker 2: is stupid.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Like they just swing and sticks and going crazy. Like
- 11:32Speaker 1: girls never really get into fights and hockey at least.
- 11:35Speaker 1: I mean, there's been some scrums and some pushing, but
- 11:37Speaker 1: never anybody to handing anybody, at least in my youth experience.
- 11:40Speaker 8: Why don't they let the girls just fight it out?
- 11:42Speaker 2: Just fight it out. I love it. I mean, I
- 11:44Speaker 2: love it. I just love it.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Cause it's a good physical sport of girls who are tough,
- 11:49Speaker 1: but like, you know, you can play it without having
- 11:51Speaker 1: to drop the gloves.
- 11:52Speaker 8: I think you should let them know.
- 11:53Speaker 2: All right.
- 11:54Speaker 8: I would have loved it.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Um, Injury report or participation report because it's this short week.
- 12:00Speaker 8: We had one.
- 12:01Speaker 7: A little bit of good news there, right?
- 12:02Speaker 4: Helton Davis, you know, was able to get back out
- 12:05Speaker 4: to practice. I think that would be a welcome return
- 12:08Speaker 4: for the defense. It looks like you're going to be
- 12:10Speaker 4: without those two linemen that you didn't finish the game with.
- 12:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Barrett Tucker.
- 12:16Speaker 4: Barrett Tucker and Ben Brown. Mike Rabel yesterday said that,
- 12:20Speaker 4: you know, Basically, he said they're going to be out.
- 12:22Speaker 7: We'll see in a few hours, officially. But they weren't
- 12:25Speaker 7: out there.
- 12:25Speaker 4: But Morgan Moses looks like he's going to give it
- 12:27Speaker 4: a go. And Carlton Davis looks like he's going.
- 12:30Speaker 2: To give it a go. Are we surprised that Ben
- 12:32Speaker 2: Brown's not on IR? Yeah, well, we saw him in
- 12:34Speaker 2: the locker room. He walked by. He looked like he
- 12:36Speaker 2: might have not suffered a major injury. I thought he
- 12:39Speaker 2: was done for the year, the way he walked off
- 12:40Speaker 2: the field. It's incredible.
- 12:42Speaker 6: And the reactions of people around him, too.
- 12:45Speaker 2: Yeah, no brace, no sleeve.
- 12:48Speaker 5: Maybe a little bit of a limp, but not like,
- 12:51Speaker 5: I thought Morgan Moses was limping around more than he was,
- 12:53Speaker 5: oddly frankly.
- 12:54Speaker 6: Well, based on the reaction of the cheerleaders, because there's
- 12:57Speaker 6: little ants on the field, but I saw the cheerleaders
- 12:59Speaker 6: turn around, and I expected it to.
- 13:02Speaker 8: Be gruesome based on their reactions. Probably put too much
- 13:05Speaker 8: credence into that.
- 13:06Speaker 2: You're talking about Ben Brown. Maybe he let out an audible.
- 13:09Speaker 4: I think he screamed, because the reaction of the players
- 13:13Speaker 4: were waving the medical staff on.
- 13:14Speaker 2: The cheerleaders were like, come out, help him.
- 13:17Speaker 8: Is that what it is?
- 13:19Speaker 2: I don't know. You're terrible. I don't know. What do
- 13:21Speaker 2: you do? Talking about biological clocks or making fun of
- 13:25Speaker 2: the cheerleaders. I don't know. I don't know if.
- 13:27Speaker 7: He's making fun. I think he wants to be one.
- 13:29Speaker 2: I think he's trying.
- 13:31Speaker 7: He's trying out.
- 13:32Speaker 2: If they let me throw him. He is exploring.
- 13:34Speaker 8: You would crush it as a cheerleader. You have like the,
- 13:37Speaker 8: you're perky and.
- 13:40Speaker 7: Enthusiastic that's why that's why you're the hype man at
- 13:44Speaker 7: training camp yeah right right evan goes over he breaks
- 13:47Speaker 7: down the exit to nose meanwhile you're hyping the crowd
- 13:49Speaker 7: up get.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Hype no i'm not as good as getting impatient are
- 13:52Speaker 1: in stadium guys i would say too just on the
- 13:53Speaker 1: uh on the injury report jonah jackson did practice yesterday
- 13:56Speaker 1: so they're one of their starting guards uh right guard
- 13:59Speaker 1: the right guard um did practice yesterday too so he
- 14:02Speaker 1: was out the first day maybe there's a chance he
- 14:03Speaker 1: goes just uh kind of rounding out some of that.
- 14:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:07Speaker 4: I saw TJ Edwards is still out though. That's a,
- 14:09Speaker 4: that's a, that's a, but he's been out, right? His
- 14:12Speaker 4: TJ Edwards been out too. Cause that's a, I mean,
- 14:14Speaker 4: that's a, that's not a good defense. So they'll lose
- 14:16Speaker 4: one of your starting linebackers.
- 14:18Speaker 2: I think it's significant for the bears.
- 14:20Speaker 5: Good run defense, especially, but yeah, they, uh, their offensive
- 14:23Speaker 5: line is really, really good. And, uh, It's funny, all
- 14:27Speaker 5: of them are rated really high across the board, except
- 14:30Speaker 5: Garrett Bradbury. That center is kind of the one weaker link,
- 14:34Speaker 5: but Jonah Jackson and Darnell Wright on the right side
- 14:37Speaker 5: are elite. Joe Tooney, obviously Joe Tooney. It's a good group.
- 14:42Speaker 5: They can really move the line of scrimmage.
- 14:44Speaker 2: What's the weather report for tomorrow night? Should be nice.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Should be nice. Yeah, it's going to be in the
- 14:49Speaker 2: low 60s, high 50s. Oh, it's warmer than here. Yep.
- 14:54Speaker 2: And what's the spread? Three. Chicago by three. Chicago by three.
- 14:59Speaker 6: Hmm.
- 15:01Speaker 2: That's about what you'd expect.
- 15:02Speaker 4: These are two pretty good teams, evenly matched. Home team
- 15:06Speaker 4: gets anywhere between.
- 15:08Speaker 2: One and a half and two and a half. I
- 15:10Speaker 2: think it's a lot of respect for Chicago.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Oh?
- 15:13Speaker 2: A lot of respect for Chicago. Oh?
- 15:16Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Oh, I mean, they are the home team on Thursday
- 15:19Speaker 2: Night Football. No, I know, but, you know, I think
- 15:23Speaker 2: people like Ben Johnson. It'll be 59 with light clouds.
- 15:27Speaker 2: There we go. Let's play football. Yeah, so I think
- 15:32Speaker 2: Ben Johnson gets a lot of respect around the league.
- 15:35Speaker 2: As he should. And by the Sharps.
- 15:37Speaker 8: Where does he rank for you?
- 15:39Speaker 2: Number two. Number two behind your guy Kyle. Kyle, of course.
- 15:43Speaker 2: He's undefeated with a laundry list of injuries, by the way. Yeah,
- 15:47Speaker 2: that's true. And he has the electrical substation that he's
- 15:50Speaker 2: fighting against.
- 15:51Speaker 9: Right.
- 15:51Speaker 2: And they have not lost the game. They have to
- 15:53Speaker 2: wrap themselves in tinfoil. And they had to go to Australia.
- 15:56Speaker 2: And they had to go to Australia.
- 15:57Speaker 8: That's true. And they have to go international again.
- 15:59Speaker 2: Just say it again. They have not lost the game
- 16:02Speaker 2: this season. Yeah, they're doing good. They're doing good. People
- 16:08Speaker 2: say because of that, Brock Purdy should be MVP. Or
- 16:12Speaker 2: he's the leader in the running right now. He should
- 16:14Speaker 2: be in a very small handful.
- 16:16Speaker 4: I don't know how many, but he's been as valuable
- 16:18Speaker 4: as anybody in the league so far.
- 16:19Speaker 2: He deserves respect.
- 16:20Speaker 1: I think a lot of times people still didn't get
- 16:23Speaker 1: it with him. I think you should get it now.
- 16:25Speaker 1: He's a really good player.
- 16:26Speaker 2: You've got to figure out the blitz.
- 16:28Speaker 5: Whenever they heat him up, their offense, for some reason,
- 16:32Speaker 5: just doesn't do as well. It's the same story. Monday night,
- 16:37Speaker 5: they're up 20 points. The commanders come out in the
- 16:40Speaker 5: second half. They start blitzing birdie. The offense starts to go,
- 16:43Speaker 5: you know, stagnant.
- 16:44Speaker 2: It's a coaching issue. Comes back. I'm like, Kyle, not again, dude.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Come on. I still think Josh Allen is more valuable
- 16:52Speaker 2: to the Bills than Purdy is to the 49ers. Because
- 16:56Speaker 2: Allen's doing it without a defense. Yeah, Mike Evans has
- 16:59Speaker 2: been a great addition for the 49ers, too. Yeah, you
- 17:01Speaker 2: can make that argument.
- 17:02Speaker 7: I'm just saying, however many finalists you have, Brock Purdy needs.
- 17:06Speaker 2: To be one. Oh, yeah. Absolutely.
- 17:07Speaker 6: Yep.
- 17:08Speaker 5: He is an efficiency darling. Number one in the league
- 17:11Speaker 5: in EPA, number one in the league in QBR.
- 17:13Speaker 4: And they've taken all his weapons away. I mean, every
- 17:16Speaker 4: week there's another wide receiver that's out. Mike Evans got hurt.
- 17:20Speaker 4: And Evans goes in and out of every game. He's
- 17:22Speaker 4: kind of like the Carlton Davis of... Of the wide receivers,
- 17:25Speaker 4: you know, because I mean, I just and I say
- 17:27Speaker 4: that with probably sounds like a shot.
- 17:29Speaker 7: And before someone.
- 17:30Speaker 4: Clips it like I say that with respect because of
- 17:33Speaker 4: the toughness that these guys show, they're able to get
- 17:35Speaker 4: off the field and get back in there and not
- 17:37Speaker 4: just get back in and play.
- 17:39Speaker 2: But they make plays when they get back in the game.
- 17:41Speaker 4: Mike Evans looked like he had like a serious rib
- 17:44Speaker 4: thing one week.
- 17:45Speaker 7: He's like crouched over. He's back in the game like
- 17:47Speaker 7: two series later.
- 17:48Speaker 2: He has an Achilles issue.
- 17:49Speaker 4: And Carlton Davis has been doing that for a year
- 17:51Speaker 4: plus for the Pages. I know he's missed the last
- 17:53Speaker 4: couple of games, but he's been on and off the field,
- 17:55Speaker 4: and he just keeps making plays when he's out there.
- 17:58Speaker 2: Yeah, Mike Evans has a sore Achilles. Yeah, which is worrisome.
- 18:02Speaker 5: And he doesn't practice during the week at all.
- 18:06Speaker 2: Okay, well, they don't get better in a week. That's
- 18:09Speaker 2: the thing.
- 18:09Speaker 7: That substation thing.
- 18:10Speaker 2: No, I mean, the Achilles is just a matter of time.
- 18:14Speaker 8: Not going near that thing.
- 18:16Speaker 2: With an Achilles, it's just a matter of time. Unless
- 18:17Speaker 2: you take, like, two months off, it's not going to
- 18:21Speaker 2: get better. I hate injuries like that. I know. I know. So,
- 18:26Speaker 2: Carlton Davis, assuming he plays, how much better... And how
- 18:31Speaker 2: much more able is this defense to defend the Bears
- 18:35Speaker 2: and their weapons? Yeah, it certainly helps. I mean, you know,
- 18:39Speaker 2: he's got some size to him.
- 18:40Speaker 1: So I don't know if that'll matter going against the
- 18:43Speaker 1: tight ends at all. But I just think any time
- 18:44Speaker 1: you got your starters back, it's a good sign.
- 18:46Speaker 2: Do you think it's a game changer?
- 18:50Speaker 5: I'm still not, like, I'm hoping that he's going to be.
- 18:53Speaker 5: It was a walkthrough yesterday.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I said assuming he's back. I don't know. I'm
- 18:57Speaker 2: not trying not to look too much into it.
- 19:00Speaker 5: Um, but I think one of the challenges of this
- 19:04Speaker 5: game is how much the bears, uh, put two tight
- 19:07Speaker 5: ends on the field, sometimes even three tight ends on
- 19:09Speaker 5: the field and play from under center.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Uh, it, it, the Patriots want to play out of
- 19:14Speaker 2: three corner nickel.
- 19:15Speaker 5: They want to have Jones and Davis and Gonzalez on
- 19:17Speaker 5: the field together a lot. And, you know, they are
- 19:20Speaker 5: lighter in that personnel grouping. Um, uh, compared to what
- 19:23Speaker 5: Chicago can put on the field with commit and Loveland and, uh,
- 19:26Speaker 5: you know, put Caleb under center, run the football, play
- 19:28Speaker 5: action off the run game. Um, so that's all, that's
- 19:31Speaker 5: been a little bit of a back and forth from
- 19:33Speaker 5: a chess match standpoint was that core and Mike Vrabel
- 19:36Speaker 5: is trying to figure out, are we going to play
- 19:38Speaker 5: more base defense?
- 19:39Speaker 2: Are we going to play three safety nickel?
- 19:40Speaker 5: Like, how are we going to, uh, match these teams
- 19:44Speaker 5: that are playing so many tight ends?
- 19:46Speaker 2: And that, that's a new thing. That's an invoke thing
- 19:48Speaker 2: right now.
- 19:48Speaker 5: The bills do it. The Rams do it. The bears
- 19:51Speaker 5: do it. The Raiders do it. So like all these
- 19:53Speaker 5: teams are doing it. And the Patriots are a team
- 19:56Speaker 5: that wants to play in like traditional nickel. So how
- 20:00Speaker 5: do they go about matching that? I think is kind
- 20:03Speaker 5: of the key to the game.
- 20:04Speaker 2: Is the advantage when you're playing those multiple tight ends
- 20:07Speaker 2: sets in the passing game or the running game?
- 20:10Speaker 5: Well, both because like you can build surfaces like to
- 20:13Speaker 5: the one side of the center.
- 20:15Speaker 2: Right.
- 20:15Speaker 5: So like you have you add gaps every time you
- 20:18Speaker 5: add a guy to the end of the line, you're
- 20:19Speaker 5: adding a gap that the defense has to account for
- 20:22Speaker 5: in the run game. But in the passing game, these
- 20:24Speaker 5: tight ends are athletic and they can catch the football
- 20:26Speaker 5: and they can run routes and they're not, you know,
- 20:28Speaker 5: they're not.
- 20:30Speaker 7: Just like they're not glorified tackle.
- 20:31Speaker 5: Man you know like they're they're real athletes especially loveland
- 20:35Speaker 5: so like when you have those guys like yeah they
- 20:38Speaker 5: can kind of run routes like wide receivers but they
- 20:41Speaker 5: can block like tight ends which is what makes them
- 20:43Speaker 5: so valuable is.
- 20:44Speaker 2: There if any a disadvantage to having multiple tight ends
- 20:47Speaker 2: out there deep.
- 20:48Speaker 5: Passing like it kind of saps your ability to push
- 20:51Speaker 5: the ball down the field i would say just a
- 20:53Speaker 5: bit because usually you're only sending like two or three
- 20:55Speaker 5: receivers into the route down the field. And so like the,
- 20:59Speaker 5: the bears right now, and you know, Caleb's 31st in
- 21:01Speaker 5: the league and a dot.
- 21:02Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 21:03Speaker 5: So he doesn't, they don't throw the ball down the
- 21:05Speaker 5: field a ton. Uh, and so that would be like
- 21:07Speaker 5: the one sort of thing, but they hit a lot
- 21:10Speaker 5: of catch and run plays. So they're making up for
- 21:12Speaker 5: the fact that they don't throw the ball down the field,
- 21:14Speaker 5: but with yak with yards after.
- 21:16Speaker 2: So if you have a bigger safety, you can sort
- 21:19Speaker 2: of defend that set because you're not having help. You're
- 21:24Speaker 2: not needing to put help deep. Yeah.
- 21:26Speaker 1: I mean, in a good world, you've got Nick Yamamori, who's,
- 21:28Speaker 1: you know, got size and can run and, you know,
- 21:30Speaker 1: can shift between whatever the offense is going to do.
- 21:33Speaker 2: You've got... somebody who can kind of deal with it.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Jordan James, those kinds of guys.
- 21:37Speaker 5: This is all a response to the two high safety shells, right?
- 21:41Speaker 5: This is all, you know, these defenses are running a
- 21:44Speaker 5: lot of quarters. They're running a lot of too high safety.
- 21:47Speaker 5: They're lightening the box as a result. And so the
- 21:49Speaker 5: offenses are combating that by we're going to get bigger
- 21:52Speaker 5: and we're going to run the football and we're going
- 21:54Speaker 5: to do it that way instead. So I still feel
- 21:57Speaker 5: like the defenses win when they do that. for the
- 22:01Speaker 5: most part, because I'd much rather the team hand the
- 22:05Speaker 5: ball off 35 times a game than be throwing it.
- 22:08Speaker 5: But at the same time, that's sort of been the
- 22:12Speaker 5: back and forth in the chess match.
- 22:13Speaker 2: I kind of side with Evan on that last part.
- 22:16Speaker 2: But the ones that.
- 22:19Speaker 4: I know when something really works well for a team,
- 22:22Speaker 4: that blueprint comes out and everybody wants to do it. Well,
- 22:25Speaker 4: not everybody has the personnel to do it.
- 22:27Speaker 7: The Rams did it.
- 22:28Speaker 4: At a ridiculously high level last year, and you can
- 22:30Speaker 4: see just how difficult it is to just continue to
- 22:33Speaker 4: do it. They're not having anywhere near the same success
- 22:36Speaker 4: this year with virtually the same personnel. Now, they've been
- 22:39Speaker 4: banged up a little bit, but it's really not all
- 22:42Speaker 4: that different. I think they lost a tackle who retired,
- 22:45Speaker 4: and Nakua's been out of the lineup, and now Adams
- 22:48Speaker 4: is out of the lineup, but they still run the
- 22:50Speaker 4: ball really well. They still use these tight ends, and
- 22:54Speaker 4: it's hard to sustain. You know, the Bills are doing
- 22:58Speaker 4: it well at times. You know, in Chicago, most teams
- 23:02Speaker 4: that I think try to do this, it's like what
- 23:03Speaker 4: Evan's talking about. Well, basically, you're shortening the game, you're
- 23:06Speaker 4: keeping the score down, and you might be efficient in
- 23:09Speaker 4: running the ball, but that generally keeps the score down. Now,
- 23:12Speaker 4: Chicago's a rare team. Like, for all the stuff about
- 23:16Speaker 4: Caleb Williams as ADOT, I like to see what his
- 23:19Speaker 4: yards per attempt is because, you know, he threw for
- 23:22Speaker 4: over 300 yards last week. despite throwing short for the
- 23:26Speaker 4: most part. So the yak that Evan's talking about is
- 23:28Speaker 4: definitely apparent with Chicago's offense, and they've been able to
- 23:32Speaker 4: put points on the board consistently.
- 23:35Speaker 5: They scored 25 a game. Yeah, and that's with backup
- 23:37Speaker 5: quarterbacks playing for a majority of the games. Their yards
- 23:41Speaker 5: after the catch is, you know, all these offenses in
- 23:44Speaker 5: this tree are hitting intermediate routes on the move. So
- 23:48Speaker 5: they're going to hit dig slants, things over the middle
- 23:50Speaker 5: of the field that receivers can then run them with
- 23:52Speaker 5: the football after the catch. And they create space with
- 23:55Speaker 5: the play action fakes. You know, they create voids in
- 23:58Speaker 5: the coverages with that.
- 23:59Speaker 2: So.
- 24:00Speaker 5: Uh, that's how they generate their explosives is it's not
- 24:04Speaker 5: Drake may put in the ball, you know, on a
- 24:06Speaker 5: platter for somebody down the field. It's we're going to
- 24:08Speaker 5: hit Cleve Raymond on an end cut and he's going
- 24:11Speaker 5: to just have a huge hole in the coverage, a
- 24:14Speaker 5: huge void, and he's just going to hit it and
- 24:16Speaker 5: he's going to be gone. Like he was a couple
- 24:18Speaker 5: of weeks ago in that Monday night game with case Keenum. So, Like,
- 24:21Speaker 5: that's the way that they sort of scheme it up.
- 24:24Speaker 5: That's the way the Rams do it and the Niners
- 24:26Speaker 5: do it and a lot of these teams do it.
- 24:27Speaker 2: You know, to.
- 24:28Speaker 5: Fred's question, it's just they don't really threaten the third
- 24:31Speaker 5: level as much.
- 24:33Speaker 2: So then, assuming they continue this trend of, you know,
- 24:37Speaker 2: multiple tight ends, the Bears, who are the two key
- 24:41Speaker 2: players on the Patriots' defense tomorrow night? Draymond Jones, I think,
- 24:45Speaker 2: is a big one. You know, like, when you played.
- 24:48Speaker 5: offenses like this that run predominantly outside zone like you
- 24:51Speaker 5: have to set edges to the defense and he's usually
- 24:55Speaker 5: the the guy on the strong side of the formation
- 24:57Speaker 5: and they're going to have multiple tight ends over there
- 24:59Speaker 5: and they're going to have darn all right over there
- 25:01Speaker 5: so like he's going to be in some real heavyweight
- 25:04Speaker 5: kind of car crashes uh on the strong side whether
- 25:07Speaker 5: it's him or akis so like that's a big part
- 25:09Speaker 5: of it and then i think the safeties get put
- 25:11Speaker 5: into a lot of high stress situations as well greg
- 25:14Speaker 5: woodson both of them you know they they're going to
- 25:17Speaker 5: try to get The safeties in run conflict, they're going
- 25:20Speaker 5: to try to get the tight ends matched up in
- 25:22Speaker 5: favorable matchups in the passing game.
- 25:24Speaker 2: So, like, that's a big part of what they do.
- 25:26Speaker 5: Like, I'm not really that concerned about, like, a dunes
- 25:29Speaker 5: A because I think Gonzalez will take a dunes A and, like,
- 25:31Speaker 5: they'll be all right. Like, Luther Burden's a nice player, but, like,
- 25:34Speaker 5: Marcus Jones, when they play three receivers, I think Marcus
- 25:37Speaker 5: Jones can cover them.
- 25:38Speaker 2: You know, how do you stop the run? How do
- 25:40Speaker 2: you cover the tight ends?
- 25:42Speaker 5: Their base kind of offense is how the Lions get you.
- 25:45Speaker 2: That's how they get rolling. All right. Well, that's going
- 25:47Speaker 2: to be something to watch tomorrow night.
- 25:49Speaker 1: You know, I think it's interesting though, like the defense,
- 25:52Speaker 1: I know they're banged up, but they're, they got all
- 25:54Speaker 1: their guys. I mean, this is, you know, they're not
- 25:56Speaker 1: really missing any.
- 25:56Speaker 7: They're not good.
- 25:57Speaker 2: You know? Yeah.
- 25:58Speaker 1: No, I'm saying the Patriots defense. Oh, I thought you
- 25:59Speaker 1: meant Chicago's, you know, like I thought you meant the Patriots.
- 26:02Speaker 7: No, I thought, I thought you meant Chicago's defense is
- 26:05Speaker 7: banged up, but they have all their guys. They're just
- 26:08Speaker 7: not all that good.
- 26:09Speaker 2: Yeah. But you know, to the Patriots point, I know
- 26:12Speaker 2: they are banged up.
- 26:12Speaker 1: You know, Carlton Davis is certainly banged up and you know,
- 26:17Speaker 1: Craig Woodson as well, but yeah, like they.
- 26:18Speaker 2: Got their guys.
- 26:19Speaker 1: So can they kind of suck it up this week
- 26:21Speaker 1: and just try to make some plays, try to, you know,
- 26:23Speaker 1: get into the backfield. Paul, to your point, Caleb Williams
- 26:28Speaker 1: is averaging 7.8 yards per attempt.
- 26:31Speaker 2: I'm not sure what that ranks, but as.
- 26:33Speaker 1: A team, net yards per attempt is 6.1, which obviously
- 26:36Speaker 1: is taken down by a backup quarterback.
- 26:38Speaker 2: So it's hard to say, but that would rank 17th
- 26:40Speaker 2: in the league, 6.1.
- 26:40Speaker 5: Well, you don't run, you don't run 73 plays per,
- 26:45Speaker 5: If you're super explosive, like they are running 73 plays
- 26:49Speaker 5: a game.
- 26:49Speaker 2: So like a lot of their drives are longer drives.
- 26:53Speaker 5: Like that's just going to, you can't have both, you know,
- 26:55Speaker 5: one without the other, like the Patriots don't run as
- 26:58Speaker 5: many plays, but that's because they hit a lot of
- 27:00Speaker 5: big plays down the field.
- 27:01Speaker 2: Right. Does a, does a play call back because of
- 27:04Speaker 2: a penalty count as a play?
- 27:06Speaker 3: No.
- 27:06Speaker 2: No. So 73 could be even more, right? In terms of, like,
- 27:11Speaker 2: with penalties?
- 27:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 27:12Speaker 2: Yeah, like, in terms of how many plays you're on
- 27:14Speaker 2: the field for? Yeah. I'm sure Rabel and Stretch know
- 27:16Speaker 2: that number, and I'm sure it's even higher. Yeah.
- 27:19Speaker 1: I just wonder, like, because it's so hard to execute
- 27:22Speaker 1: consistently and to say, we're going to make 10 play drives. And,
- 27:25Speaker 1: I mean, I remember Brady doing that, you know, when
- 27:26Speaker 1: we talked about the dink and dunk. And then the
- 27:29Speaker 1: opposite of the Patriots' old defense was, like, the bend,
- 27:31Speaker 1: don't break. And it was always weird to me that, like, strange–
- 27:34Speaker 1: dichotomy of on one hand on offense we're looking to
- 27:37Speaker 1: take the profits and execute and do long drives but
- 27:41Speaker 1: on the defensive side of the ball we want to
- 27:42Speaker 1: try to force teams to execute and do long drives
- 27:45Speaker 1: because they're probably likely to make a mistake you know
- 27:47Speaker 1: so I see both sides of it and I just
- 27:49Speaker 1: you know wonder to the to Evan's point can you
- 27:52Speaker 1: get a lead on the Bears can you take them
- 27:54Speaker 1: out of their run game can you force them to
- 27:56Speaker 1: have to score quick and not execute these plays because
- 28:00Speaker 1: I I just On paper, this would seem like what
- 28:03Speaker 1: you would want Caleb Williams that came out to do, right?
- 28:06Speaker 1: Like you'd want to don't let him run around. Don't
- 28:09Speaker 1: let him make plays downfield. That's what he feasts on.
- 28:11Speaker 1: Force him to sit in the pocket and be a
- 28:13Speaker 1: quarterback and execute. And that's what he's doing right now.
- 28:16Speaker 1: But to my mind, originally, that's what you try to
- 28:18Speaker 1: force him in because I think he would get bored.
- 28:19Speaker 2: But he's doing it. That's a testament to Ben Johnson.
- 28:22Speaker 5: Well, I think that you just hit on the 73
- 28:25Speaker 5: play thing is a little deceiving because that is how
- 28:28Speaker 5: defenses are playing them. They don't play a ton of
- 28:30Speaker 5: man against them. They play a lot of split safety
- 28:32Speaker 5: coverage against them. So they're making the Bears march.
- 28:35Speaker 2: They're giving them.
- 28:36Speaker 5: Yeah, because they think that exactly to Deuce's point. Let's
- 28:40Speaker 5: not give up the explosives. Let's not give up the
- 28:42Speaker 5: scramble drills. Let's keep him in the pocket. It's the
- 28:45Speaker 5: same conversations we have with Drake May a lot. It's
- 28:47Speaker 5: the same kind of thing. So that is what's happening,
- 28:51Speaker 5: but Caleb's fifth in the league in EPA per drop
- 28:54Speaker 5: rack right now. like they're averaging 25 points a game.
- 28:57Speaker 5: So they're doing it. And I think a lot of
- 28:59Speaker 5: that's Ben Johnson. Like I think Ben Johnson is really,
- 29:02Speaker 5: really good at scheming up receivers that are open, like open,
- 29:05Speaker 5: open underneath the defense. So like these aren't like precision Brady,
- 29:10Speaker 5: like in tight windows type of throws that he's making.
- 29:13Speaker 5: Like he's throwing an open receivers underneath the defense versus
- 29:16Speaker 5: throwing tight window throws.
- 29:18Speaker 2: How much of this is on Caleb Williams to recognize
- 29:21Speaker 2: what he's seeing or How much of it is the
- 29:23Speaker 2: place called and it is what it is? The second one. Yeah.
- 29:27Speaker 5: This is not typically a heavy lift for the quarterback,
- 29:31Speaker 5: which is why they can put the backup quarterbacks in
- 29:33Speaker 5: there and still have productive offenses. You know, we were
- 29:36Speaker 5: talking about like Purdy being an MVP candidate, which.
- 29:39Speaker 2: He actually is.
- 29:40Speaker 5: Is that would be the biggest knock against purdy is
- 29:43Speaker 5: that that offense notoriously is really easy to operate for
- 29:47Speaker 5: a quarterback so like to fred's point about josh allen
- 29:50Speaker 5: there's a lot more on josh allen's plate to be
- 29:53Speaker 5: able to direct what the offense would say By the way,
- 29:57Speaker 5: he sounded much better today.
- 29:58Speaker 2: He's doing, we're getting there. Baby steps. Yeah, baby steps.
- 30:02Speaker 4: Yeah, and I would also say, you know, part of this,
- 30:04Speaker 4: you know, this is Ben Johnson, I think, now in
- 30:07Speaker 4: year two of really sort of hammering home the point
- 30:11Speaker 4: to Caleb Williams. And I think what probably down the
- 30:15Speaker 4: road is the ultimate goal is if I can get
- 30:18Speaker 4: him to do this when he needs to do this,
- 30:22Speaker 4: you know, not unlike the stuff that we talked about
- 30:23Speaker 4: all summer with Drake May.
- 30:25Speaker 2: Take the profits. Don't get impatient. Stick to the script.
- 30:30Speaker 4: You know he can fall back on the other thing
- 30:32Speaker 4: that he's done for the last two years. Caleb Williams
- 30:36Speaker 4: ran around and made all kinds of plays last year
- 30:38Speaker 4: because he has immense physical ability. So if you can
- 30:42Speaker 4: get him to play in structure and then have the
- 30:44Speaker 4: ability to do what he can do that not a
- 30:48Speaker 4: lot of other guys can do, now you've got something.
- 30:50Speaker 4: And I think that's what you're seeing right now. I
- 30:52Speaker 4: don't expect them.
- 30:53Speaker 7: to be.
- 30:54Speaker 4: Exclusively a dink and dunk team forever with Ben Johnson.
- 30:59Speaker 4: I think it's important for Ben Johnson right now to
- 31:01Speaker 4: beat out his willingness and desire to just be Superman
- 31:06Speaker 4: every play. Sometimes you just have to throw the ball
- 31:09Speaker 4: to Swift out of the backfield instead of trying to
- 31:14Speaker 4: push one between three guys to Roma Dunze. But if
- 31:17Speaker 4: you go back and watch, and I know this is
- 31:20Speaker 4: not exactly the the model game because of the way
- 31:23Speaker 4: it unfolded. The opener against Carolina when they scored, whatever,
- 31:26Speaker 4: 59 points.
- 31:27Speaker 2: But, like, they could do everything they wanted to in
- 31:30Speaker 2: that game.
- 31:30Speaker 7: They threw it short.
- 31:31Speaker 2: They threw it long.
- 31:32Speaker 4: They ran all over him. Caleb Williams ran all over
- 31:35Speaker 4: the place. I think he had two long touchdown runs
- 31:37Speaker 4: in that game. Like, that's not exactly a normal game, obviously,
- 31:42Speaker 4: the way it unfolded. But that's the ability. that Chicago
- 31:45Speaker 4: has that I don't think every team has.
- 31:47Speaker 5: The joke on film Twitter right now with Ben Johnson
- 31:51Speaker 5: is Ben Johnson versus cover two.
- 31:54Speaker 2: Every team is just playing a bunch of cover two.
- 31:56Speaker 5: Against the Bears and trying to cap the deep part
- 31:59Speaker 5: of the field against them. And so all the different
- 32:01Speaker 5: things that they're designing offensively are cover two beaters and
- 32:05Speaker 5: ways to get around doing that. So this is also
- 32:10Speaker 5: partially just how teams are, what they're giving them. And
- 32:12Speaker 5: to Caleb's credit now, Sometimes I think he passes up
- 32:15Speaker 5: things in structure a little bit too much, but he
- 32:17Speaker 5: usually comes back and puts it on schedule again, which
- 32:20Speaker 5: is kind of funny.
- 32:21Speaker 2: Uh, like he'll miss it.
- 32:22Speaker 5: Like initially he'll extend the play, extend the play and
- 32:26Speaker 5: the receiver will come all the way across the other
- 32:28Speaker 5: side of the field and then he'll throw it, you know?
- 32:30Speaker 2: So it's, it's, it's a little bit of both. So
- 32:32Speaker 2: with Brendan schooler back is Oklahoma in play. You mean
- 32:37Speaker 2: the Longhorn package? Is that what it is? He went
- 32:39Speaker 2: to Texas, yeah. Well, the number of safeties they got now,
- 32:42Speaker 2: probably not.
- 32:43Speaker 1: I mean, they do have, you know, they just promoted
- 32:45Speaker 1: Elliot Davidson to off the practice squad, so I know
- 32:47Speaker 1: you're making a joke.
- 32:48Speaker 2: I know.
- 32:49Speaker 7: That was Chicago, though, Fred.
- 32:50Speaker 2: I know it was Chicago.
- 32:51Speaker 5: That was good. My friend Taylor, he and I have
- 32:55Speaker 5: gone back and forth about this. That's what he wants
- 32:57Speaker 5: to do against Caleb tomorrow night is blitz him like
- 33:00Speaker 5: they did in his rookie year. I just feel like
- 33:02Speaker 5: he's matured too much since then.
- 33:04Speaker 2: Like, I'd be... but that maybe they will, maybe they'll
- 33:08Speaker 2: come after him.
- 33:09Speaker 1: What do you take from Brian Flores holding them to
- 33:11Speaker 1: three points? Uh, that was a 48.8 pressure rate. They
- 33:15Speaker 1: splits them 79% of the time.
- 33:17Speaker 2: I mean, I know we can play the game in
- 33:19Speaker 2: a car wash.
- 33:19Speaker 4: I'd be looking for that similar kind of game plan
- 33:21Speaker 4: because that's how that game was played.
- 33:23Speaker 5: It was, uh, but I think that it did work.
- 33:26Speaker 5: It definitely worked. They, they, but they played a lot
- 33:28Speaker 5: of too high behind it. So they were, you know,
- 33:31Speaker 5: they were sending pressure, but they were sending pressure with
- 33:33Speaker 5: the two high safeties back and you know, five, six
- 33:35Speaker 5: man zones. So that, that, that's exactly what I wrote
- 33:39Speaker 5: in game plan. Like that's been the blueprint that Brian
- 33:42Speaker 5: Flores put out there. Now he blitzes cause he's a maniac,
- 33:46Speaker 5: but he's going to blitz.
- 33:47Speaker 2: Right.
- 33:48Speaker 5: But I think that that structurally is, is what's worked
- 33:51Speaker 5: against Caleb Williams.
- 33:52Speaker 2: Yeah. And I would also say like nine times already.
- 33:55Speaker 2: That sounds right. What?
- 33:59Speaker 8: Oh, okay.
- 34:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 34:01Speaker 7: I mean, Yeah, because he did miss time. I was like,
- 34:04Speaker 7: that doesn't seem, but he only played three games.
- 34:05Speaker 8: Right, it's three games.
- 34:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 34:07Speaker 4: He does take a lot of sacks because he holds
- 34:08Speaker 4: the ball too long, and he tries to make too
- 34:10Speaker 4: many plays at times. But yeah, the blitzing, even in
- 34:15Speaker 4: that game, DeAndre Swift fumbled inside the one-yard line. Caleb
- 34:19Speaker 4: Williams was running for a touchdown in the play that
- 34:21Speaker 4: he pulled his hamstring. That was going to be a
- 34:23Speaker 4: touchdown if he didn't pull his hamstring. So even with someone,
- 34:27Speaker 4: and they had a short field goal blocked. So even
- 34:30Speaker 4: with the weather and all of the harassment, they probably
- 34:34Speaker 4: should have scored, say, 20 points, which is well below
- 34:37Speaker 4: their average.
- 34:37Speaker 7: But Brian Flores is a different kind of cat.
- 34:40Speaker 2: He is. That's why it's so hard to extrapolate.
- 34:42Speaker 4: He's just going to blitz, and it's going to work
- 34:44Speaker 4: because he's very good at it. Now, I'm not telling
- 34:48Speaker 4: you that I think Zach Kor is Brian Flores, but
- 34:51Speaker 4: I kind of think Zach Kor has a lot of
- 34:53Speaker 4: the similar kind of– I'm really impressed with the way
- 34:56Speaker 4: he dials up different schemes to get after the quarterback.
- 34:59Speaker 4: I don't think he has– You know, he doesn't have
- 35:03Speaker 4: Dallas Turner and those kinds of players that can just
- 35:05Speaker 4: win off the edge like Minnesota does. He does it
- 35:09Speaker 4: different ways, like the play that we talked about yesterday where, like,
- 35:12Speaker 4: Spillane's just setting a pick for Ponder, and it just
- 35:15Speaker 4: works to perfection. Spillane and Ellis have been very effective
- 35:19Speaker 4: on pass rushes. You've seen them use the defensive backs.
- 35:22Speaker 4: Marcus Jones has been involved. Kevin Byard has been involved
- 35:25Speaker 4: a little bit in some of the— some of the pressure.
- 35:28Speaker 4: So I, I think Zach core will have some things
- 35:30Speaker 4: like that for, for Caleb Williams tomorrow night too.
- 35:32Speaker 2: All right. Uh, Linda from Georgia writes in happy birthday, Alex.
- 35:36Speaker 2: Thank you, uh, for sharing your talent, personality, and inspiration
- 35:42Speaker 2: with all of us. May the year ahead, girl crush
- 35:46Speaker 2: going on there that may the year ahead, bring you
- 35:48Speaker 2: continued success, exciting opportunities, and, and countless reasons to smile.
- 35:53Speaker 2: Happy birthday, Mr. President. Let's see. Vancouver Sean writes in,
- 36:04Speaker 2: happy birthday, Alex. Did you get a free burger and
- 36:07Speaker 2: fries at Red Robin? No, I didn't. I didn't know
- 36:09Speaker 2: that's a thing. Oh, you did that on your birthday? Yeah,
- 36:11Speaker 2: I think so. Oh, is that a thing? Yeah. Paul's like,
- 36:13Speaker 2: I missed out this summer. Yeah.
- 36:16Speaker 8: No, I didn't.
- 36:17Speaker 7: Count the days.
- 36:18Speaker 2: Yeah, go get yourself a free burger. Walter Rouse and
- 36:21Speaker 2: Matt Pryor did an excellent job at guard against the Jets.
- 36:23Speaker 2: If Morgan Moses is ready to go, do the Patriots
- 36:26Speaker 2: stick with those backups to start, or do they move
- 36:28Speaker 2: Lomu inside? And will New England play man with a
- 36:31Speaker 2: spy on Williams? I saw that Mark.
- 36:34Speaker 1: Daniels spoke with Walter Roush, who told him he was
- 36:37Speaker 1: going to start at left guard.
- 36:38Speaker 2: That was what Mark Daniels said on the Twitter machine yesterday.
- 36:42Speaker 4: I can tell you, if Bill Belichick was the coach,
- 36:44Speaker 4: Walter Roush would not be starting tomorrow.
- 36:48Speaker 5: I feel conflicted about this one. We talked about it
- 36:50Speaker 5: on Catch-22. I hate the idea of Lomo being the
- 36:54Speaker 5: odd man out because he's too talented in this group,
- 36:56Speaker 5: I think, to not play. Like, no disrespect to Walter
- 37:00Speaker 5: Roush and Pryor, but like, It's your first-round pick, and
- 37:04Speaker 5: you're banged up on the offensive line.
- 37:06Speaker 2: He can help. Find a way to play him. Barth
- 37:09Speaker 2: did make a good point.
- 37:10Speaker 5: He said, what if Morgan Moses is iffy? If he
- 37:15Speaker 5: starts the game, but what if he can't finish the game?
- 37:17Speaker 5: And now you've got to move Lomu back to right
- 37:19Speaker 5: tackle and put Rouse in, and it becomes... a house
- 37:22Speaker 5: of cards at that point. So if that's the approach
- 37:24Speaker 5: that they take because of that, because they're worried that
- 37:27Speaker 5: Moses isn't going to be able to go wire to wire,
- 37:29Speaker 5: then okay. But I would hate to like see low
- 37:32Speaker 5: move on the sideline all night, Thursday night when they're
- 37:34Speaker 5: banged up on the offensive line.
- 37:36Speaker 1: Is it realistic to have him play guard? Like he,
- 37:38Speaker 1: when was the last time he played guard in practice?
- 37:40Speaker 1: You know, like two days of practice, two walkthroughs.
- 37:43Speaker 2: Is that enough? I mean, it's, I mean, we're not
- 37:45Speaker 2: exactly talking about him playing defense. Like he's playing, but
- 37:48Speaker 2: there's still communication. It's, it's a whole, I've just asked
- 37:52Speaker 2: him when was the last time he played guard?
- 37:54Speaker 5: Uh, he said that he did it a little bit,
- 37:56Speaker 5: you know, we saw him do it in the spring.
- 37:58Speaker 5: And so, you know, he, they were doing it with
- 38:00Speaker 5: him a little bit in the spring, uh, not so
- 38:02Speaker 5: much in, in training camp. So yeah, it would be,
- 38:05Speaker 5: it would be a crash course. It would be an adjustment, but,
- 38:08Speaker 5: I not any more than putting like your fourth and
- 38:10Speaker 5: fifth string guards out there and Walter Rousey prior.
- 38:13Speaker 4: That's basically what you're looking for. There is just what
- 38:16Speaker 4: is the better player. And I think Mike is right.
- 38:19Speaker 4: I think people just think you could snap your fingers
- 38:21Speaker 4: and do anything, but I think that Barth might be
- 38:23Speaker 4: onto it. If you play and Morgan Moses holds up
- 38:27Speaker 4: and he's okay, he's, you know, we're in the second
- 38:29Speaker 4: half here and he he's okay.
- 38:33Speaker 2: And Rouse is struggling. Maybe you make a move there. Um,
- 38:37Speaker 2: I know you guys were making fun of me because
- 38:38Speaker 2: I actually watched some film yesterday.
- 38:40Speaker 4: I do not watch the offensive line over and over again,
- 38:43Speaker 4: but from what you guys tell me, you and your
- 38:44Speaker 4: brethren have.
- 38:46Speaker 7: Pryor was pretty good, Rouse not so much.
- 38:48Speaker 5: Yeah, I'd say it was really small sample size for Rouse,
- 38:51Speaker 5: but I also thought he kind of struggled in Jacksonville too.
- 38:54Speaker 4: So there's a chance that if Rouse is struggling, there's
- 38:58Speaker 4: a chance that maybe you start with what you finished with,
- 39:01Speaker 4: but then.
- 39:03Speaker 2: you know, maybe Lomo's waiting in the wings. I hear
- 39:05Speaker 2: what you're saying.
- 39:05Speaker 1: It's just a hard thing to weigh of, like, a
- 39:08Speaker 1: lower-talented guy who's at least.
- 39:10Speaker 2: But he hasn't really played guard either. Right, I know.
- 39:13Speaker 4: Now, he's played more guard than Lomo, but he's kind
- 39:15Speaker 4: of learning how to play guard, too.
- 39:17Speaker 1: That's where we're at, where you have a first-round pick
- 39:19Speaker 1: who's really athletic and, you know, has a lot of
- 39:21Speaker 1: physical talent that we can probably make it work.
- 39:24Speaker 2: But it's just interesting thinking about it on a short weekend.
- 39:26Speaker 7: I think you're right.
- 39:27Speaker 2: It's not an easy fix.
- 39:28Speaker 7: Well, it's not.
- 39:28Speaker 2: Ideal all around. No. not an easy fix.
- 39:31Speaker 5: They're on their fourth and fifth string guards at this point.
- 39:34Speaker 2: And it's frustrating because going into the offseason, we said
- 39:37Speaker 2: they have to get that O-line better, and they made
- 39:39Speaker 2: all these moves. And now we can't even judge it
- 39:43Speaker 2: because it's not what we planned on. What would they
- 39:47Speaker 2: point on?
- 39:47Speaker 6: Just real quick, do you think it would be Rouse,
- 39:49Speaker 6: like maybe just so much familiarity coming from the Vikings,
- 39:52Speaker 6: like he might be more familiar with the Bears?
- 39:55Speaker 2: That could help him. Yeah.
- 39:57Speaker 4: Especially if it's like Evan says, they have sort of
- 40:00Speaker 4: different kind of running attack that is maybe not the
- 40:04Speaker 4: same for everybody. Maybe he has some familiarity with it
- 40:07Speaker 4: from his time in the NFC.
- 40:08Speaker 2: Maybe they're picking his brain at least. I would just say, Fred, yeah.
- 40:12Speaker 1: You know, despite the injuries, I think the offensive line
- 40:14Speaker 1: has been a bright spot this year. I mean, they've,
- 40:15Speaker 1: they've fought through those injuries. And I think some of
- 40:17Speaker 1: the depth guys that have gotten in there have, you know,
- 40:19Speaker 1: been serviceable and it hasn't, I mean, we know what
- 40:21Speaker 1: it looks like when it all falls apart. And even,
- 40:24Speaker 1: you know, Lomu's development, I think he's all, he surprised
- 40:27Speaker 1: all of us a little bit from, you know, where
- 40:29Speaker 1: he was at in the summer, where it felt like, man,
- 40:30Speaker 1: I don't know if he's ready to deal with NFL
- 40:33Speaker 1: level pass rushers and power and all that stuff.
- 40:35Speaker 2: And, you know, it's, it's been pretty good.
- 40:38Speaker 1: So I just, I think it reflects positively on Doug Marone.
- 40:40Speaker 1: And I, I just wish that they had been healthy
- 40:43Speaker 1: and that you could really see the same group settle in.
- 40:45Speaker 1: It's not meant to be this year, but hopefully Ben
- 40:48Speaker 1: Brown can get back. I think Ben Brown's a solid backup,
- 40:52Speaker 1: and if you can at least get him back, it
- 40:54Speaker 1: gives you something to work with. But I don't know
- 40:57Speaker 1: how you get through the rest of the season if
- 40:58Speaker 1: it's got to be Roush and the other guy.
- 41:03Speaker 5: That's sort of why I keep on harping on the
- 41:05Speaker 5: Lomu thing. Right now, they're decimated inside. Like they're literally,
- 41:12Speaker 5: you know, playing guys that they sign, you know, practice
- 41:15Speaker 5: squads and stuff like that to, you know, at the
- 41:18Speaker 5: beginning of the season to play in these games right now.
- 41:21Speaker 5: And he drafted the kid in the first round. And
- 41:23Speaker 5: when he plays, he looks good. He looks like he
- 41:25Speaker 5: belongs in the league. So like last year, Jared Wilson
- 41:28Speaker 5: played left guard. That's not his natural position.
- 41:30Speaker 2: He's a center. But they played him out of position
- 41:33Speaker 2: because he was the best player for the position at
- 41:34Speaker 2: the time.
- 41:35Speaker 4: To defend Mike, though, but they played him at guard
- 41:38Speaker 4: every day for months until the season started.
- 41:40Speaker 2: They did.
- 41:41Speaker 7: And this is not the same.
- 41:42Speaker 5: It's not the same thing, but it's not the same situation.
- 41:46Speaker 7: It's not ideal.
- 41:47Speaker 4: No matter what they do, there will be a second
- 41:49Speaker 4: guess because they're kind of up against it a little bit.
- 41:53Speaker 2: Chris in Vancouver was curious about your thoughts on Ramondre
- 41:57Speaker 2: Stevenson's low usage in the Jets game. There were a
- 42:00Speaker 2: few short yardage plays. I was certain Ramondre would run
- 42:03Speaker 2: for first down. However, Henderson received the majority of those snaps.
- 42:07Speaker 2: Thinking about it further, I figured maybe they're ensuring Ramondre
- 42:11Speaker 2: is 100% for the Bears game and may rely on
- 42:14Speaker 2: him heavily for that game. Curious if you think.
- 42:16Speaker 7: I don't have my game book, but Evan's looking it up.
- 42:18Speaker 2: I don't think that's... I don't think it is either.
- 42:21Speaker 2: Curious if you think that would be the case and
- 42:23Speaker 2: if Rabel has shown evidence of this in the past
- 42:25Speaker 2: with the Titans when playing on a Thursday night football game.
- 42:29Speaker 5: Ramondre played 60% of the snaps offensively, 41 total.
- 42:34Speaker 2: He's by far the most among the running backs. What
- 42:36Speaker 2: about on the short yardage?
- 42:37Speaker 7: What was Henderson?
- 42:38Speaker 6: 16.
- 42:39Speaker 2: Yeah. 41, 16, 20.
- 42:42Speaker 4: My mind's eye didn't see what he said, that Henderson
- 42:44Speaker 4: got the snaps. The question would be, Corey Kiner closes
- 42:49Speaker 4: the game out. That would seem to be Ramondre Stevenson time.
- 42:52Speaker 4: And I do wonder, to the end of that email,
- 42:55Speaker 4: which I am kind of interested in, did he just
- 42:59Speaker 4: go with the hot hand as he said, to which
- 43:02Speaker 4: I think the second guess would be, well, how'd you
- 43:04Speaker 4: know he had the hot hand? Cause he hadn't really
- 43:06Speaker 4: had many carries during the game. Now he had a
- 43:08Speaker 4: couple of good kickoff returns and he did mention that.
- 43:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 43:11Speaker 4: Maybe he was kind of playing a hunch a little
- 43:12Speaker 4: bit and it worked. Um, but I do wonder if
- 43:15Speaker 4: maybe he's looking ahead and saying, we got a game
- 43:18Speaker 4: Thursday night. I don't need to grind this game out
- 43:21Speaker 4: with Ramondre Stevenson. Those are punishing carries too. Um, if
- 43:25Speaker 4: it worked out the same way and he gets eight
- 43:27Speaker 4: carries in a row, how much does that take away
- 43:30Speaker 4: from him potentially Thursday night?
- 43:32Speaker 7: And maybe, maybe Vrabel was thinking of it that way.
- 43:34Speaker 4: He had a touchdown lead, you know, they were other,
- 43:38Speaker 4: they didn't have to run the ball every play to
- 43:39Speaker 4: get those first downs. If the runs got stuffed, then
- 43:43Speaker 4: they still have Drake May and, you know, the passing
- 43:45Speaker 4: game to, to do what they've done all day. And
- 43:48Speaker 4: that that's moved the ball when AJ Brown didn't drop it.
- 43:50Speaker 2: They moved the ball very effectively. Right. Yeah.
- 43:54Speaker 5: I think that, Like, Vrabel, when he talks about that
- 43:57Speaker 5: third running back, especially, what Kiner did is exactly what
- 44:02Speaker 5: they're looking out of that running back.
- 44:04Speaker 2: He was very effective.
- 44:07Speaker 5: For whatever reason, it's not the first time that they've
- 44:09Speaker 5: turned to the third guy as the clock killer.
- 44:12Speaker 2: Maybe it's because the.
- 44:13Speaker 5: Carries are violent, and they know they're going to be
- 44:16Speaker 5: taking some big hits in crowds and stuff like that, but...
- 44:20Speaker 5: They did it a couple of times last year with
- 44:21Speaker 5: Terrell Jennings, too.
- 44:22Speaker 2: Speaking of violence, when talking about the Bears, Vrabel, at
- 44:29Speaker 2: least a couple times that I heard, started out describing
- 44:32Speaker 2: that team as physical. Really a physical team. Are they
- 44:36Speaker 2: that much more physical than any other team the Patriots played?
- 44:39Speaker 2: And if they are, is that a problem for a
- 44:41Speaker 2: beat-up team?
- 44:42Speaker 5: Well, they're physical in the way they're... You know, they
- 44:46Speaker 5: run the ball at high volume.
- 44:48Speaker 2: They play a lot of tight ends.
- 44:50Speaker 5: So like they just have bigger people on the field
- 44:52Speaker 5: and they emphasize running the football and they, they run
- 44:55Speaker 5: it at the second highest rate in the league. So they,
- 44:59Speaker 5: they are definitely like a physical football team in that sense.
- 45:02Speaker 2: So I don't think this is like, you know, the
- 45:04Speaker 2: Ravens of the early 2000s. Well, nobody plays like that anymore,
- 45:07Speaker 2: but yeah, I don't think you said they were dirty.
- 45:09Speaker 2: I don't think that I didn't say they were either.
- 45:11Speaker 2: I don't think it's Ravens in.
- 45:12Speaker 7: The early 2000s were.
- 45:13Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't think that he meant so much of, like,
- 45:16Speaker 5: this is going to be like a car crash every
- 45:18Speaker 5: two seconds. I think he more meant that, like, they
- 45:21Speaker 5: lean on you. They kind of have a mindset of
- 45:24Speaker 5: being a physical team and running the ball and playing
- 45:26Speaker 5: big people and stuff like that.
- 45:28Speaker 2: Whenever a coach uses a word to describe a team
- 45:31Speaker 2: several times, you know that's on top of his mind.
- 45:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I think he's probably talking about what Evan said.
- 45:36Speaker 4: They're an old-school team.
- 45:37Speaker 2: They want to run the ball. They have high-volume runs.
- 45:41Speaker 4: I don't think defensively people would describe him as overly physical, though.
- 45:45Speaker 4: I don't think it's that kind of a defense. They're
- 45:47Speaker 4: soft against the run. I'd say aggressive. Yeah, they're going
- 45:50Speaker 4: to blitz.
- 45:52Speaker 1: I thought it stood out, too, yesterday when Kevin Byard
- 45:54Speaker 1: said that he's going to have something up his sleeve.
- 45:56Speaker 2: He's going to want to show the world something. That's
- 45:59Speaker 2: how Ben Johnson is. Oh, Ben Johnson's going to have
- 46:02Speaker 2: something up his sleeve. That's something that will be ready.
- 46:05Speaker 1: Maybe we'll bust out our double passes.
- 46:09Speaker 7: We do it every game.
- 46:10Speaker 2: They ran a legitimate hook and lateral last week, do
- 46:13Speaker 2: you say it? Underhand flip. Underhand, the way you prefer.
- 46:15Speaker 2: The way it should be done.
- 46:17Speaker 5: Like a literal hook and lateral, not like what the
- 46:19Speaker 5: Patriots did, although they do that too.
- 46:22Speaker 2: I mean, all these head coaches have egos. You can't
- 46:24Speaker 2: be a head coach in the NFL without a big ego.
- 46:26Speaker 2: But does Ben Johnson have a little bit bigger ego
- 46:29Speaker 2: than most, or at least is he more concerned with his,
- 46:34Speaker 2: how he is?
- 46:35Speaker 7: I'd say he's among the biggest.
- 46:36Speaker 2: Yeah. That's weird.
- 46:39Speaker 4: Someone that might be a little closer to home might
- 46:42Speaker 4: be ahead of him.
- 46:44Speaker 2: I like him, though.
- 46:44Speaker 1: I think he brings just, you know, and it is.
- 46:46Speaker 1: It's that kind of cocky energy, but it's great. It's
- 46:48Speaker 1: great for the game. I think he's a great match
- 46:50Speaker 1: for Caleb Williams, and that's what I think makes this
- 46:52Speaker 1: a really fun game, a fun matchup, not.
- 46:54Speaker 2: Just for the quarterbacks, but for the coaches.
- 46:57Speaker 1: It's just more fun to me when you're going against
- 46:59Speaker 1: a coach who has some style to him, who has
- 47:02Speaker 1: a scheme that's his or something about him you know,
- 47:05Speaker 1: that makes him interesting and gets his team behind him,
- 47:08Speaker 1: you know, to play special. I think he's that kind
- 47:10Speaker 1: of coach.
- 47:10Speaker 2: It's fun.
- 47:10Speaker 5: I mean, is it, like, ego-driven that, like, he goes
- 47:13Speaker 5: for it a bunch on fourth down?
- 47:14Speaker 2: Like, maybe. Yeah, I mean, I don't know. Like, how
- 47:19Speaker 2: would that manifest itself? What made me think of that
- 47:21Speaker 2: is you saying Bayard says, you know, he'll have something
- 47:23Speaker 2: up his sleeve. Does he go into a game scene?
- 47:25Speaker 2: I'm going to do something. All eyes are on. We've
- 47:27Speaker 2: got to show something. Primetime game.
- 47:29Speaker 6: Primetime against a team that was in the Super Bowl?
- 47:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 47:33Speaker 2: I just feel like I would... Natural competitiveness.
- 47:36Speaker 5: But he runs trick plays every single week. They ran
- 47:39Speaker 5: a trick play against Atlanta last week. No one's watching
- 47:41Speaker 5: that game.
- 47:42Speaker 2: Everyone will be watching this week.
- 47:44Speaker 4: For ego, and I do think Ben Johnson has got
- 47:48Speaker 4: a pretty sizable ego, but I think more of him calling.
- 47:53Speaker 7: Out LeFleur before a Green Bay game. I'm putting it
- 47:59Speaker 7: out there. I'm taking my shirt off in the locker.
- 48:01Speaker 2: Let's go. Winners for everybody.
- 48:04Speaker 4: And I'm not telling you I like it or I
- 48:06Speaker 4: don't like it. I'm just saying I think those are
- 48:08Speaker 4: examples of... the ego-driven head coach, more so, to Evan's point,
- 48:12Speaker 4: more so than trick plays, which everybody, I don't think
- 48:15Speaker 4: Josh is like trying to show his big brain off
- 48:17Speaker 4: to the NFL every week. He's won a trick play
- 48:19Speaker 4: virtually every game this year. Double passes, hook and ladders,
- 48:22Speaker 4: even though they were thrown overhand. I mean, Efton Chisholm
- 48:26Speaker 4: threw a pass in Jacksonville.
- 48:28Speaker 2: I mean, they've done a lot of stuff, don't you think?
- 48:31Speaker 2: And I'm trying to think of a coach that is
- 48:33Speaker 2: a good coach in the league that at least doesn't
- 48:36Speaker 2: show his ego. Like Andy Reid comes to mind.
- 48:39Speaker 6: Mm-hmm.
- 48:39Speaker 2: Well, yeah. I guess I just have, like, I'm not a, like,
- 48:42Speaker 2: I'm not a.
- 48:42Speaker 7: Disagree with you.
- 48:44Speaker 2: I'm not a. We're doing a little kumbaya in a circle. Well, yeah. Yeah.
- 48:49Speaker 4: Like, I can just hand it to Kenneth Walker and
- 48:51Speaker 4: run it in, but I'm going to put seven guys
- 48:53Speaker 4: in the backfield.
- 48:53Speaker 2: Yeah, okay. I'll give you that. But his comportment, like,
- 48:56Speaker 2: the way he carries it. No, he doesn't, yeah, he
- 48:58Speaker 2: doesn't talk like some of these other guys. I don't know.
- 49:00Speaker 2: I've never met Ben Johnson, unfortunately, so I don't really know.
- 49:03Speaker 2: I know how. He's all set. He missed his opportunity.
- 49:06Speaker 4: If you could go to a convention with just one coach,
- 49:10Speaker 4: would it be Ben Johnson, Kyle Shanahan?
- 49:12Speaker 2: Kyle Shanahan, yeah.
- 49:13Speaker 6: Kyle. All of those team security already have your name
- 49:17Speaker 6: on them.
- 49:18Speaker 2: I have met Kyle Shanahan, though. So that one's different.
- 49:20Speaker 2: So if Kyle Shanahan was touring. I tried. I tried
- 49:23Speaker 2: real hard.
- 49:24Speaker 8: Did you tell him how much he means to you?
- 49:26Speaker 2: Yes.
- 49:26Speaker 7: Did you Chris Farley it?
- 49:27Speaker 2: If Kyle Shanahan was touring in the offseason, Kyle Shanahan
- 49:32Speaker 2: will be in Boston, and he'll be speaking, and you
- 49:34Speaker 2: have to pay to go watch him. Would you do it?
- 49:36Speaker 2: Do I have to pay? Yeah, you're buying tickets. It's
- 49:39Speaker 2: like a conference. But I can't flash my credential or something? No,
- 49:43Speaker 2: this is expensive. Can I expense it?
- 49:46Speaker 8: This is a coaching clinic.
- 49:47Speaker 2: This is for coaches. No, this is you. Would you
- 49:49Speaker 2: pay to listen to Kyle Shanahan? Yes. Okay. Yeah, I would.
- 49:53Speaker 2: That's something. Would you pay to listen to Ben Johnson?
- 49:55Speaker 5: Sure.
- 49:57Speaker 8: Are those the only two?
- 49:59Speaker 2: Mike McDaniel. Yeah, probably.
- 50:03Speaker 4: I'd be curious to see what Mike McDaniel actually said,
- 50:06Speaker 4: because I think.
- 50:07Speaker 7: He could say anything.
- 50:08Speaker 5: A lot of the coaching clinics, snippets of them get
- 50:11Speaker 5: posted behind paywalls and stuff like that.
- 50:15Speaker 2: So I've watched a handful of them.
- 50:17Speaker 4: Maybe you can get them for your coach's clinic.
- 50:19Speaker 2: Do have a solid.
- 50:22Speaker 8: What are those things our HR department does? The chalk
- 50:24Speaker 8: talks or whatever?
- 50:25Speaker 6: The work talks where they bring in like authors and
- 50:30Speaker 6: stuff to write?
- 50:31Speaker 8: Not that you guys go to any of those, but
- 50:33Speaker 8: they do.
- 50:33Speaker 2: What, do you go?
- 50:34Speaker 8: You don't have to.
- 50:34Speaker 7: I mean, obviously you have a lot of experience.
- 50:36Speaker 2: You don't even know what they're called. I have almost
- 50:39Speaker 2: been to some.
- 50:39Speaker 9: Almost.
- 50:42Speaker 7: I've almost thought about going to you and Hildebrand's.
- 50:47Speaker 2: Oh, I would be all over that one.
- 50:49Speaker 5: Some coaches are very, Ben Johnson being one of them, very,
- 50:54Speaker 5: very protective of his playbook.
- 50:57Speaker 2: Why? Why shouldn't he be?
- 50:58Speaker 8: So that's not one of the ones you have acquired?
- 51:01Speaker 2: Oh.
- 51:02Speaker 7: Uh, no.
- 51:03Speaker 2: And there's actually, I know.
- 51:05Speaker 8: That's like your liver.
- 51:07Speaker 5: There's actually a lot of online debate about his terminology.
- 51:12Speaker 2: That's fake as well.
- 51:14Speaker 5: And whether or not it's actually pure West coast or
- 51:17Speaker 5: if it's Earnhardt Perkins terminology, cause not enough people have
- 51:20Speaker 5: actually seen it to, to know. Uh, so they did
- 51:24Speaker 5: his playbook and specifically is very, very lock and key.
- 51:29Speaker 5: The Shanahan-McVeigh playbook, you can download that on the internet.
- 51:33Speaker 5: Anybody could download that.
- 51:34Speaker 8: Oh, really?
- 51:34Speaker 2: That one? No. Claire writes in.
- 51:37Speaker 7: Hello, everyone.
- 51:37Speaker 2: Hello, Maureen. Hey, girl.

- 54:03Speaker 5: Brown in wake of his performance on Sunday.
- 54:07Speaker 2: How did he look today and what are you expecting
- 54:11Speaker 2: from him Thursday night? I mean, it's A.J.
- 54:13Speaker 3: Brown.
- 54:13Speaker 2: That's last week is what it is.
- 54:16Speaker 16: I wish I had some throws back and attempts to
- 54:19Speaker 16: target his way and I think it's part of this league.
- 54:22Speaker 16: You want to make a play so bad, you want
- 54:24Speaker 16: to have plays back and there's plays that I want
- 54:26Speaker 16: back every week and that's part of it and we're
- 54:28Speaker 16: on to it's a short week so we've got to
- 54:32Speaker 16: get focused on Chicago and knowing that it's a tough
- 54:35Speaker 16: environment we're coming into with a good team, a good defense,
- 54:38Speaker 16: good offense, good all around, they're well coached and we've
- 54:40Speaker 16: got a tough challenge so I'm glad that happy with
- 54:44Speaker 16: how we've kind of approached this short week so far,
- 54:46Speaker 16: and we've got some more work to do to try
- 54:48Speaker 16: to catch up and get on track.
- 54:49Speaker 6: How do you feel like you guys are dealing with
- 54:51Speaker 6: all of these injuries, particularly on the offensive side of
- 54:53Speaker 6: the ball, offensive line, wide receiver, you guys have some
- 54:56Speaker 6: as we're in and out of line?
- 54:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I've been really impressed.
- 54:57Speaker 16: I feel like it's been every week somebody's stepping up,
- 54:59Speaker 16: and on the flip side of it, it's unfortunate seeing
- 55:02Speaker 16: so many of our guys go down, and it's unfortunate
- 55:05Speaker 16: that it's longer injuries than just kind of get back
- 55:08Speaker 16: in there and come back, but I think I'm Impressed
- 55:11Speaker 16: with how the coaches have been handling it, kind of
- 55:13Speaker 16: moving personnel around and kind of fixing things on the
- 55:15Speaker 16: sideline and adjusting. It's been pretty cool to see and
- 55:18Speaker 16: kind of see how really why the coaches are out
- 55:21Speaker 16: there to try to put moving parts together.
- 55:23Speaker 2: And fit them together.
- 55:24Speaker 16: It's been an X-Men up mentality. This is how Coach Vrabel,
- 55:28Speaker 16: Coach Team, is how he always says it, and we
- 55:30Speaker 16: believe it. We've got to have identity throughout, and it's
- 55:33Speaker 16: not just the top guys. It's guys that I was
- 55:36Speaker 16: just telling them, leaving practice in the huddle.
- 55:38Speaker 2: It could be.
- 55:39Speaker 16: It could be you on Thursday night.
- 55:40Speaker 2: You don't know.
- 55:40Speaker 16: And I think he says prepare as a starter in
- 55:43Speaker 16: there in a team meeting a lot, and I think
- 55:45Speaker 16: that holds weight. I think a lot of guys hold
- 55:48Speaker 16: true to that, and when you see their opportunity, I
- 55:49Speaker 16: think it shows and they shine.
- 55:51Speaker 8: What was it like with.
- 55:53Speaker 5: Matt Pryor and Walter Rouse and Caleb as well having
- 55:56Speaker 5: to step in late in the game and also not
- 55:59Speaker 5: giving up a sack?
- 56:00Speaker 2: I don't think the entire game the O-line didn't do that,
- 56:03Speaker 2: given all the injuries.
- 56:04Speaker 16: I think that might be– maybe one of the first
- 56:07Speaker 16: times in my career. And mostly it's on, it's on me, um,
- 56:09Speaker 16: for holding the football. And sometimes they get mad at me.
- 56:12Speaker 16: I run out of bounds at a negative one and, um,
- 56:14Speaker 16: or no gain.
- 56:15Speaker 2: And, uh, them guys are getting mad at me. So,
- 56:17Speaker 2: which is, which is, is, is warranted.
- 56:19Speaker 16: I think it's true, but, uh, no, those guys, I
- 56:21Speaker 16: think that last drive was really, really cool to see
- 56:23Speaker 16: and special to kind of, you know, talk about identity
- 56:26Speaker 16: and kind of when they know we're going to run
- 56:27Speaker 16: it and try to bleed out the clock. I think
- 56:29Speaker 16: we almost, you know, we're that close a foot away to,
- 56:31Speaker 16: you know, bleeding out the whole clock and kind of
- 56:33Speaker 16: ending the game down there. So, That was really cool
- 56:35Speaker 16: to see new guys in the hole, new faces of
- 56:37Speaker 16: learning the playbook. They've been here for a couple weeks
- 56:39Speaker 16: and getting a chance to step in. We were out
- 56:42Speaker 16: of guys, so they had to roll regardless.
- 56:46Speaker 2: Who knows?
- 56:47Speaker 16: Some of us are playing out there at tackle next,
- 56:49Speaker 16: so it was cool to see that.
- 56:51Speaker 2: We were really proud of those guys, and they deserved it.
- 56:54Speaker 2: A lot of love.
- 56:54Speaker 16: You've done any defenses on a week-to-week basis, but just
- 56:57Speaker 16: the times that you've either come across the Bears' offense
- 57:00Speaker 16: and what do you see and like about their offense?
- 57:04Speaker 2: Caleb's talented, don't get me wrong, but just how they play. Yeah,
- 57:06Speaker 2: a little crossover.
- 57:09Speaker 16: They played the Jets, watched them a little bit, and
- 57:11Speaker 16: obviously just kind of seeing them throughout the weeks when
- 57:14Speaker 16: they put up 60 the first week.
- 57:16Speaker 2: I think they're explosive.
- 57:18Speaker 16: They run the football at a really high number and
- 57:21Speaker 16: a well rate, and they're doing a great job of
- 57:25Speaker 16: Caleb went down, and they've had some guys step in
- 57:27Speaker 16: there and step up and play well. Obviously, the Eagles
- 57:30Speaker 16: game with Case, that was pretty cool. I got to
- 57:32Speaker 16: know Case a little bit. It's really cool to see
- 57:34Speaker 16: Case do that. I'm a big fan of his. Any
- 57:37Speaker 16: time that the Bears, if you like, with Coach Johnson,
- 57:40Speaker 16: a North Carolina guy, a great offensive line, and they
- 57:44Speaker 16: do some really great things back to Detroit. Just seeing
- 57:47Speaker 16: some of their tempo stuff, some of their play action,
- 57:51Speaker 16: some of their kind of wrinkle plays that are really
- 57:53Speaker 16: cool to see and kind of take the league by storm.
- 57:56Speaker 16: So what's really cool, they're really versatile. They can get
- 57:58Speaker 16: a lot of different personnels and can exploit you and
- 58:01Speaker 16: really just don't really watch much this week, just focus
- 58:04Speaker 16: on the defense.
- 58:06Speaker 2: You have 10 touchdowns and one pick over the last
- 58:08Speaker 2: three games. What do you think the biggest.
- 58:10Speaker 1: Difference for you is in that span compared to the
- 58:12Speaker 1: first three?
- 58:13Speaker 16: I think just get back to trusting the guys around us,
- 58:16Speaker 16: trusting myself, trusting what I'm seeing and just get back
- 58:19Speaker 16: to finding a groove early in the game and I
- 58:23Speaker 16: kind of mentioned earlier in the season I've wanted to
- 58:24Speaker 16: make a play so bad and I really just kind
- 58:26Speaker 16: of letting the game come to you I think that's
- 58:27Speaker 16: one of the biggest things I've tried to focus on
- 58:30Speaker 16: you want to make the kind of the right play
- 58:31Speaker 16: instead of kind of the big play and I've tried
- 58:33Speaker 16: to you know really own that and get us in
- 58:35Speaker 16: the right plays and try to protect the football and
- 58:37Speaker 16: realizing that was really the main thing we were moving
- 58:39Speaker 16: the ball and just finding ways to hurt ourselves and
- 58:41Speaker 16: you know couldn't get you know myself speaking you know
- 58:45Speaker 16: couldn't get like I said out of my own way
- 58:46Speaker 16: and just trying to get back to that and knowing
- 58:48Speaker 16: the guys that we have and the players that we
- 58:50Speaker 16: have and the player that i am to get back
- 58:51Speaker 16: out there and get things going you're playing another you're
- 58:54Speaker 16: not watching the bears offense right now necessarily but you've
- 58:57Speaker 16: known caleb a long time i'm sure seeing him play
- 59:00Speaker 16: quite a bit you ever watch him.
- 59:02Speaker 1: And say i'd love to try that or i'd love
- 59:04Speaker 1: to borrow this from his game and try to do it.
- 59:07Speaker 16: Myself yeah um him in the pocket i don't know
- 59:10Speaker 16: if i could do some of the things he can
- 59:11Speaker 16: do um he's uh he's special in the way he
- 59:13Speaker 16: can move and and kind of you know escape and
- 59:16Speaker 16: evade pressure and um you know throwing on the run
- 59:19Speaker 16: is is pretty cool to watch so i don't know
- 59:21Speaker 16: if i'm that um you know shifty in the pocket
- 59:23Speaker 16: he can do some some cool things and um he's
- 59:26Speaker 16: got you know you know crazy arm talent and it's
- 59:28Speaker 16: fun to watch but uh I don't know if I'm
- 59:32Speaker 16: that flexible to try some of those things, but I
- 59:34Speaker 16: think the way he plays the game is cool. I
- 59:38Speaker 16: know he's doing a great job.
- 59:40Speaker 2: In Chicago, he's got the city. Fun to watch.
- 59:45Speaker 13: You're playing another defense that wants to really live in
- 59:47Speaker 13: man coverage.
- 59:48Speaker 16: What are the points of emphasis in the week leading
- 59:50Speaker 16: up to one of those kinds of defenses versus one
- 59:52Speaker 16: that just wants to play a lot of zone against you?
- 59:53Speaker 16: We've got to win our matchups. We've got to block
- 59:55Speaker 16: them up front. First off, block the pressure and They're
- 59:59Speaker 16: really well coached on defense. They do some really good
- 1:00:01Speaker 16: things of mixing up zone and man and finding ways.
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: To bring the heat and drop guys out.
- 1:00:09Speaker 16: I think they're really just well coached. They've got guys
- 1:00:11Speaker 16: up front, guys at all levels, got some young guys
- 1:00:13Speaker 16: making plays in the back end. It's a tough challenge.
- 1:00:16Speaker 16: Even though I'm your man team, you're going to want
- 1:00:18Speaker 16: to have edges on your routes, try to be physical.
- 1:00:21Speaker 16: Knowing that we've got guys that come down to making plays,
- 1:00:24Speaker 16: contesting catches, and coming up with the football when plays,
- 1:00:28Speaker 16: when the defender's going to be close to you. That's
- 1:00:30Speaker 16: when it comes down to me and ball placement and
- 1:00:32Speaker 16: accuracy and being on time.
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: There was a report out there.
- 1:00:35Speaker 16: That you were named the NFLPA voting rep for this
- 1:00:39Speaker 16: team this year.
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: First of all, is that true? Secondly, why is something
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: like that maybe important to you?
- 1:00:44Speaker 16: It is true. The guys voted me to be the rep.
- 1:00:48Speaker 16: I think it's an honor. It's an honor to represent
- 1:00:50Speaker 16: this team, represent the Patriots, and to represent the players
- 1:00:55Speaker 16: and the players in this league and try to gain
- 1:00:58Speaker 16: some knowledge about how the league works and knowing that
- 1:01:02Speaker 16: this position carries a lot of weight in this league
- 1:01:04Speaker 16: and knowing that I don't really have much else other than,
- 1:01:14Speaker 16: like I said, to get some knowledge about it and
- 1:01:15Speaker 16: try to represent this team. I know Coach Vrabel was
- 1:01:18Speaker 16: the player up here, so make sure that the coaches
- 1:01:21Speaker 16: and players' scenarios are going all right.
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: When it comes to them, they're on third down. I
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: think they're the second best third down defense in the league.
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: What do they do that makes it difficult?
- 1:01:31Speaker 16: First off, I think you've got to be good on
- 1:01:33Speaker 16: first and second down. I think they're really good at
- 1:01:34Speaker 16: getting off the field. I think their offensive-defensive ratio of
- 1:01:38Speaker 16: play number count is something that's kind of absurd with
- 1:01:41Speaker 16: how well the defense is getting off the field. Like
- 1:01:44Speaker 16: I said, they're trying to get you in longer distances,
- 1:01:46Speaker 16: trying to give you some blitz looks, trying to get
- 1:01:49Speaker 16: you to be They'll take some chances, you know, in
- 1:01:53Speaker 16: zone coverage with their eyes on you. And then they'll
- 1:01:55Speaker 16: mix in some man to try to make it tough
- 1:01:57Speaker 16: on you. So they do a good job of variety.
- 1:01:58Speaker 16: And like I said, they're well coached. They're going to
- 1:01:59Speaker 16: be in the right spot. They're going to be on
- 1:02:01Speaker 16: the football making plays.
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: And now, great moments in history. I'm sure it doesn't
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: surprise anybody that I am a food snob. Food? That's
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: what I'm saying. Patrick in Ottawa thinks I'm a food snob.
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: He says when Fred speaks of food, it's with such snobbery.
- 1:02:24Speaker 7: There's no question.
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: He channels the soul of Eric.
- 1:02:28Speaker 7: You tell everybody, don't get this, get this. This is
- 1:02:30Speaker 7: the better one.
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: I feel like Fred.
- 1:02:33Speaker 5: And I are on the same wavelength, but he does
- 1:02:36Speaker 5: it a little bit more than I do.
- 1:02:37Speaker 7: He's worse than you at it. Yeah, so I.
- 1:02:40Speaker 7: Before Smashburgers began, the Tavern Burger, that's the one.
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: That's the one.
- 1:02:44Speaker 7: You're wasting your time with the Whiskey River Barbecue.
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: No mayo on it. Don't put mayo on it. Mayo
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: will ruin it.
- 1:02:51Speaker 7: Who puts mayo on a sandwich?
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: I don't know, but Fred's always telling me not to
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: put mayo on something. That's another great moment from....
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: All right, it's time for the Copilot Question of the Week,
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: presented by Microsoft Copilot, where every day is game day
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: and where every decision is powered by insight and innovation.
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: Microsoft technology helps to make decisions faster, insight sharper, and
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: strategies more adaptive.
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: And this week, guys, I.
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: Asked Copilot, what's up with Thursday night football? What can
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: you tell me about the trends and how the games
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: kind of go? And, you know, is there anything that
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: you could break down for me? So here are five
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: keys that Copilot came back to me with. They said
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: running the ball becomes more important. Short week contests tend
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: to reward teams that can stay ahead of the chains
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: and avoid putting everything on the quarterback. I felt like
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: that one was pretty true for this week. I mean,
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: it just seems like two teams that Patriots would love
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: to run the ball.
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: Bears can run the ball. Line of scrimmage battles are magnified.
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: Effort, fundamentals, and trench play travel better than elaborate game plans.
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: I kind of like that one as far as the
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: Patriots mentioned on our game preview. You know, it's last year,
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: those Patriots, they.
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: Won nine games on the road, nine true road games,
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: setting a record in the NFL. They had a little magic,
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: you know, about them. And that's something that, like, I
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: know they're banged up, but I have this weird confidence
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: sometimes with Rabel where, And we can go back to
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: that bills game a couple of weeks ago, games that.
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: You're like, I don't know if they got it this week.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: He's good in this spot. Sometimes they kind of surprise you. Um,
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: turnovers become even more decisive. Now, of course, you know,
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: Brable saying their turnovers are embarrassing. They're 30th in the
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: league with a minus six with seven takeaways, 13, uh,
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: giveaways bears, you know, not, not too, too far behind
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: nine takeaways, 11 giveaways. They're minus two. They're about middle
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: of the pack. So, uh, keep an eye on those turnovers. Uh,
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: It also says home field advantage exists, but it isn't overwhelming.
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: There's a perception that Thursday games heavily favor the home team,
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: but home teams are really 57% to 60%, which is.
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: Really kind of close to what they generally are. That's normal?
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: Kind of normal. Not a huge.
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: So another one that, you know, potentially for the Patriots.
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: And lastly, veteran well-coached teams tend to benefit from the
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: short weeks. So I think both these teams are in
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: their second year kind of, so it's not quite, you know,
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: say the Patriots of like 2007 where they had a
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: ton of veterans across everywhere. But, yeah, I thought those
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: were some interesting things. Nothing too shocking, but overall just
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: says go in there, play a clean game, be able
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: to run the ball, and, you know, just lean on
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: your effort. Don't try to get too cute with it.
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: So that was what Copilot presented.
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: You know what's interesting? You know what? I'd like to
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: know when's the last team or how many teams were
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: 30th in the turnover, you know, differential, and had a
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: 4-2 record or winning record, you know. That's a good question.
- 1:05:30Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, I would say early in the year
- 1:05:31Speaker 7: is a little too soon.
- 1:05:33Speaker 4: Like, if they were to be 31st in turnover margin
- 1:05:37Speaker 4: and then finish, say, like, 12-5, I would say that's
- 1:05:41Speaker 4: got to be pretty rare.
- 1:05:42Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: Yeah. All right, good stuff from Copilot. Yeah. Yeah, I
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: think so. I was going to look up, too.
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: You know, I just always think about that, was it
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: the 2011 Patriots team that just, like, I mean, they
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: couldn't stop anybody, but they just had a ton of takeaways.
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: You know, it's almost the opposite.
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: End of the spectrum where it's like you're kind of
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: saving yourself because you do get turnover. And then, of course,
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: you get to 2010, 2011, those two playoff games they lost,
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: including the Super Bowl.
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: Hard to get takeaways. They didn't get them. Your season
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: ends up coming to an end. All right. Nate in
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: Chicago wants to earn a T-shirt, and I think he
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: did a pretty good job doing that here. He's got
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: food recommendations in Chicago. Best burger, he says, is Au Chevelle.
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: and The Loyalist, and Small Bar, which is not downtown.
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: But those are the three. The best steak is RPM Steak.
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: Best Italian slash pasta, Monteverde and RPM Italian. Best pizza
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: is Pequod's, but that's not downtown, and Lou Malnati's. I've
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: been to Lou Malnati's. That's the one I stopped at.
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: Me and my dad drove back. We had one place
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: to stop in Chicago. Was that Pan Chicago? Is it Chicago? Yeah.
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: What do you guys think about it?
- 1:06:56Speaker 7: You a fan of the Chicago deep dish?
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: I really like it, but it's more a pastry than
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: it is pizza. It's like a cake. It's really like
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: you can only have like. two or three bites and
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: then you're full.
- 1:07:07Speaker 8: It's not pizza to me, but it's lovely.
- 1:07:09Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: It's delicious. It's delicious. I mean, salt, fat, cheese. So
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: you've had pizza or uno right before. Yeah. So supposedly
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: that's Chicago pan pizza. Think of that about five times
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: more dense.
- 1:07:22Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: And that's Chicago pan pizza. Like buttery. Yeah.
- 1:07:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: It's okay. It's okay. I kind of agree with you.
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: It's different. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I don't, I mean,
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: we don't get them off very often, but I mean,
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: it was.
- 1:07:33Speaker 7: Do you ever have the Detroit style? Yeah.
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:07:35Speaker 7: Yeah, I kind of like that. It's a little bit more.
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: Gravy on it. A little bit more sauce.
- 1:07:42Speaker 8: Saucy. Thicker, too, but not quite on the level of Chicago.
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: It's good.
- 1:07:46Speaker 8: I like Detroit pizza.
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: It's thick, but it's airy, the dough. And I like
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: the way they toast the edges.
- 1:07:52Speaker 8: Yeah, it's in like a sheet pan almost often times.
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's crisp on the edges. I like that.
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: But I would say if I had to only have one,
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: Chicago or Detroit, I'd pick Chicago. But again, you can't
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: have a lot of it. You know, you're not eating
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: two pieces. You can't have a lot of the Detroit either.
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: It's filling.
- 1:08:08Speaker 8: New Haven.
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: And best beer and great food not far from O'Hare
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: is Old Irving Brewing Company. So there you go. Recommendations.
- 1:08:18Speaker 7: Do you have plans for tomorrow night?
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: I might try to get a seat at Gibson's. Oh, tonight. Yeah.
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: Gibson's is a steakhouse there. Gibson's. Gibby's. But I might
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: meet up with Cat in Chicago too. Oh, that's right.
- 1:08:32Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: Please give Kat my best. Yeah. You met Kat. You
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: saw her place, right? Didn't you go to her place?
- 1:08:39Speaker 3: No.
- 1:08:39Speaker 4: I don't think I went to her place. I saw
- 1:08:42Speaker 4: pictures of it. I think Eric might have. Yeah, I
- 1:08:44Speaker 4: think I might have been with you and Eric. But
- 1:08:46Speaker 4: I've met Kat before.
- 1:08:46Speaker 7: I think she was here.
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: Was she not? I definitely met her. Okay. Tyler says,
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: happy birthday to the Queen of P.U., Alex. Paul, keep
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: doing you. Keep Fred on his toes. Thursday, let's effing go. Patriots,
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: let's show Ben Johnson how to actually score. think he
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: needs any help there.
- 1:09:10Speaker 4: I'm a little disconcerted the amount of people that have
- 1:09:12Speaker 4: had nice things to say to me lately.
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: It's off-putting. It's a good way to put it, Mike.
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: It's off-putting. I'll tease you a little bit. Thank you. Alright,
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: 855-PASS-500 is the hotline. Who's on there? Oh, Sabah, what's up?
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: Hey there, guys and ladies. Happy birthday, first of all.
- 1:09:35Speaker 8: Thank you.
- 1:09:37Speaker 10: Yeah, I really think that birthdays should be the celebratory
- 1:09:41Speaker 10: of the mother. Like if you have two kids, you
- 1:09:42Speaker 10: get two birthdays a year.
- 1:09:43Speaker 7: You get four, you get four.
- 1:09:44Speaker 10: Because we did the, you know, something the size of
- 1:09:48Speaker 10: a watermelon coming out of something the size of a lemon.
- 1:09:50Speaker 10: You know, we went through all that. It doesn't take
- 1:09:53Speaker 10: much to be birthed, but to get birthed takes a
- 1:09:55Speaker 10: little bit of effort. Anyway, but still, happy birthday to you.
- 1:09:58Speaker 6: Love it.
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 1:10:00Speaker 10: And secondly, Detroit-style pizza is definitely number one. But Fred
- 1:10:03Speaker 10: is right. You can only have it once in a
- 1:10:05Speaker 10: while or you start looking like a pizza. So we
- 1:10:09Speaker 10: have that probably once every month.
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: We love it here.
- 1:10:11Speaker 10: I like how the burnt edges on the cheese is
- 1:10:13Speaker 10: very tasty. I do light sauce and extra cheese. So
- 1:10:18Speaker 10: that's what I like there. My favorite place to eat
- 1:10:20Speaker 10: up where you guys are is Dead to Legal Seafood,
- 1:10:22Speaker 10: the seafood bouillabaisse.
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: Let's go. Favorite dish. There you go.
- 1:10:26Speaker 10: Yeah, love that place. Okay, so you want to get
- 1:10:28Speaker 10: to the game now?
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: Yeah, let's do it.
- 1:10:30Speaker 10: All right, so I think that it's going to be tough.
- 1:10:33Speaker 10: It's going to be exciting. I'm so glad Thursday night
- 1:10:35Speaker 10: is good for me. I'm with Paul. I think he said, like,
- 1:10:39Speaker 10: the short work week. I like that, the short week.
- 1:10:40Speaker 10: I just want to get to football because I just
- 1:10:42Speaker 10: enjoy it so much. I think that you're going to
- 1:10:45Speaker 10: have to rush Caleb. Make him run around. Make him
- 1:10:49Speaker 10: pull his hamstring. You know, just make him do whatever.
- 1:10:51Speaker 10: His hamstring's not perfect. I would rather him run than
- 1:10:54Speaker 10: sit there and Ben Johnson's offense and pick the team apart.
- 1:10:58Speaker 10: I would definitely put pressure on him. Um, what I
- 1:11:01Speaker 10: am worried about when Drake may is I forgot to
- 1:11:04Speaker 10: mention this last time on the jet game. He definitely
- 1:11:06Speaker 10: got late hit it when he slid and the gas
- 1:11:08Speaker 10: fell right onto his hip. That could have been serious.
- 1:11:10Speaker 10: And I think Drake may felt a little bit. So
- 1:11:12Speaker 10: I think that the coaches need to tell Drake whenever
- 1:11:15Speaker 10: you kind of get hit like that, pull like a
- 1:11:16Speaker 10: Patrick Mahomes and start crying and screaming and yell and
- 1:11:20Speaker 10: act like your leg fell off. Do something to alert
- 1:11:22Speaker 10: the referees that that should be a flag and to
- 1:11:25Speaker 10: prevent the other team from doing it because if they're
- 1:11:27Speaker 10: going to get away with it, I'll keep doing it too.
- 1:11:30Speaker 10: So I'm worried about that, and I don't want to
- 1:11:32Speaker 10: keep feeding.
- 1:11:35Speaker 8: Butterfinger, A.J.
- 1:11:36Speaker 10: Brown, if he ain't going to catch the ball. We
- 1:11:38Speaker 10: are a result-oriented organization. If you don't catch the ball,
- 1:11:43Speaker 10: you don't get it thrown to you. And I do
- 1:11:48Speaker 10: have two people on Chicago on my fantasy team. Loveland
- 1:11:51Speaker 10: and their tight ends. I'm not rooting for them tonight,
- 1:11:53Speaker 10: but I am kind of liking that guy, North Carolina
- 1:11:56Speaker 10: Tar Heel Johnson. But here's my thing. I think I
- 1:11:59Speaker 10: see a 24-22 win for the Pets.
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: Okay. All right, Sabah. Sounds good. Good synopsis there.
- 1:12:10Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: I expect A.J. Brown to come out and play well.
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: I think he's going to, like, similar to the Ben
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: Johnson thing of, like, I want to put on a
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: show for the national audience.
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: I think guys like A.J.
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: Brown have a similar kind of mindset, especially coming off
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: a game where he's.
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: You know, let's call it embarrassing. I mean, that's, you know,
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: what it was. It was a lot of drop passes.
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: Certainly not up to his standards. I got a good
- 1:12:29Speaker 2: feeling about him.
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: And I think a big reason why, again, like, I
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: kind of feel like this is the Bears game, but
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: if the Patriots are to pull it out, I could see,
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: you know, a Drake May, A.J.
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: Brown show being a big part of that. All right,
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: let's see. Jatar writes in. Happy birthday, Alex, he says.
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: To comment on Paul's Thursday night football opinion, I like
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: that I get to watch the Patriots ASAP and also
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: that they are on primetime TV. I also work Sunday,
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: so I'm able to watch the Thursday games without having
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: to worry about going into work after or during. Although,
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: I don't like waiting as long to watch the Patriots again,
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: especially if they lose. When they lost to Seattle on
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: that Wednesday, I was ready to see them get back
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: on the field ASAP, but it felt like forever. Love
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: and hate the Thursday night football games. They usually are
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: a slop fest, but I'm all for it. Patriots 23,
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: Bears 20.
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: Yeah, tomorrow's a long day waiting for it. That can
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: be hard, but I'm with Paul. I just love squeezing
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: everything in, banging it out, getting it all done, and
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: then the Sunday waiting for you to have a free
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: Sunday to just kind of hang out and watch Red Zone.
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: That's great.
- 1:13:38Speaker 6: I love it, too, because I just think there's nothing
- 1:13:40Speaker 6: better than having that to look forward to at the
- 1:13:42Speaker 6: end of the day on a weekday. I feel the
- 1:13:44Speaker 6: same way on Monday, just getting home from work, knowing, cool,
- 1:13:48Speaker 6: I just have to get my crap together, cook food,
- 1:13:51Speaker 6: and there's football tonight.
- 1:13:55Speaker 7: You've got to work that day anyway.
- 1:13:56Speaker 4: It's a work day, so you have to work a
- 1:13:58Speaker 4: little later that day.
- 1:14:00Speaker 7: And it's different for you guys.
- 1:14:01Speaker 4: I know you guys are traveling, and I don't travel anymore,
- 1:14:03Speaker 4: so it's easy for me to say, yeah, I'll be
- 1:14:05Speaker 4: in my bed while you guys are flying home and
- 1:14:07Speaker 4: all that stuff.
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: Paul, you're old enough to remember when Monday Night Football
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: didn't kick off until like 9.15. 9 o'clock.
- 1:14:14Speaker 4: When I was a kid, the Monday Night Football game
- 1:14:17Speaker 4: started at 9 o'clock.
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: It's still too late for me.
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: I would back it all up to 7.15, 7.20, just
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: extra hour.
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I can't. I rarely, unless it's a really compelling
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: game with teams that I either love or hate, I
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: can't make it past halftime. Yeah, I'm first half guy.
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: That's usually about 9.30 or so.
- 1:14:33Speaker 7: That's what happened to me this week.
- 1:14:36Speaker 4: I watched a good chunk of that San Francisco-Washington game
- 1:14:38Speaker 4: the other night. It's 20-3 at the half. I shut
- 1:14:43Speaker 4: the TV off. I took my lenses out, went to bed.
- 1:14:46Speaker 4: I was asleep probably a half hour later.
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: I woke up.
- 1:14:49Speaker 4: To see, oh, geez, Washington had a chance to win
- 1:14:51Speaker 4: this game. They actually had the go-ahead touchdown call back.
- 1:14:53Speaker 4: And I was like, what happened?
- 1:14:54Speaker 2: What happened? Why'd you get up so early? You only
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: slept a half hour, and then you woke back up
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: to check the score. What's going on here?
- 1:15:00Speaker 4: I said I was asleep about a half hour later
- 1:15:02Speaker 4: after I shut the TV off.
- 1:15:04Speaker 2: But then you woke up.
- 1:15:05Speaker 4: And then I woke up the next morning and found
- 1:15:06Speaker 4: out that this is what happened in the game.
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: I thought you said you woke back up a half
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: hour later to check the score.
- 1:15:11Speaker 4: No, the best night's sleep I had in the last
- 1:15:13Speaker 4: 20 years was last night, bro.
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: I'm happy for you. Thank you. Congratulations. Good stuff. Rich
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: in South Jersey, happy birthday, Alex. Always enjoy your insights
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: on the show, and it's evident you enjoy what you do.
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: Hope you have the best day ever. Wow. She's just
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: like glowing over there.
- 1:15:30Speaker 7: She's like, really?
- 1:15:32Speaker 6: Well, I want to be grateful and be kind and
- 1:15:35Speaker 6: say thank you, but then Fred's reading in these ridiculous voices,
- 1:15:39Speaker 6: so now I feel ungrateful because I'm just laughing.
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: It's not you guys, it's Fred. With Dobbs out, what
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: do you expect for snaps between Chisholm and Williams? I'm
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: sure it's been said, but AJ saw a lot of
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: targets coming back as expected, but had a chance to
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: make some plays. I'm sure it's a mental thing like Drake,
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: hoping the line performs close to last week and we
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: can move the ball on the ground. We're on to Chicago. So,
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: Williams and Chisholm. I think Chisholm gets a lot. I
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: thought he got a lot of snaps Sunday.
- 1:16:09Speaker 7: And I expect him, I don't know if you saw this,
- 1:16:11Speaker 7: but They're definitely going to have to address sort of
- 1:16:15Speaker 7: the tell.
- 1:16:16Speaker 4: When Chisholm's on the field, it's generally a running play.
- 1:16:19Speaker 4: And the vast majority of his snaps the other day
- 1:16:21Speaker 4: were running plays. Now, some of that is skewed for
- 1:16:24Speaker 4: that last drive. But they're going to have to get him.
- 1:16:27Speaker 4: I think he'll be more involved in the passing game
- 1:16:29Speaker 4: with Dobbs out. But I expect those three guys.
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: It's Brown, it's Douglas, and it's Chisholm. Who do you
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: think of that group of receivers will see the biggest
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: uptick without Dobbs in the mix? Chisholm. Chisholm.
- 1:16:42Speaker 4: He had one target the other day. I think you're
- 1:16:45Speaker 4: going to have to get him involved. Douglas, I think,
- 1:16:48Speaker 4: has sort of established himself as a guy who's going
- 1:16:50Speaker 4: to get a half dozen or so targets now most weeks,
- 1:16:54Speaker 4: and obviously they're not going to go away from A.J.
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: Brown.
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: I know following them long enough, and they always say
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: guys learn multiple receiver positions, and I almost think about
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: it like we talk about the offensive line.
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: Let's not let a guy get too overwhelmed.
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: To your point with Pop Douglas, where it feels like
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: he's kind of found a little bit of a sweet spot,
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: it's like, do we want to kind of leave one
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: of those players in one role and not have to
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: rejigger everything again?
- 1:17:17Speaker 2: You know what I mean? Like, does he maybe kind
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: of just maintain what he's been doing and then the other.
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: Guys have to pick up the slack? But, you know,
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: four receivers, they're all going to get the play. I mean,
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: I'd love to see Kyle Williams continue to, I mean,
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: I put Kyle Williams on, you know, I didn't put
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: him on the good list, but I just pointed out the,
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: you know, that big third down conversion he had in
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: the third quarter where it felt like, really, the momentum
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: was all swinging towards the Jets. They were in a
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: third and ten, I think, and they really needed a
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: big play and You know, I brought it up on
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: the show when even, you know, Troy said, like, that's
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: the best route he's run. That was the best ball
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: Drake threw the whole game. One catch, it doesn't move
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: the needle really for, you know, scoreboard watchers. But to me,
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: that just was a play where. You're not getting a
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: lot of volume, kid, but you're still contributing, and you've
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: got to stay focused and stay in it.
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: That was a big play. And now you need them
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: even more.
- 1:18:02Speaker 8: And it's not something just like go run as fast
- 1:18:05Speaker 8: as you can.
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: Straight down the field.
- 1:18:07Speaker 6: That's why we were joking, because I sit next to
- 1:18:09Speaker 6: Troy in the press box, and Troy was so thrilled
- 1:18:12Speaker 6: to see him just not doing the same old thing.
- 1:18:14Speaker 6: He always does that, Troy. not gotten on him about,
- 1:18:17Speaker 6: but like has been critical of him as a receiver.
- 1:18:20Speaker 6: So we were just laughing. We're like, Trey, you've seen
- 1:18:22Speaker 6: him have these amazing touchdowns, like these huge X plays.
- 1:18:26Speaker 8: And you're so excited about that.
- 1:18:27Speaker 2: But yeah, it was a big play. Cause that's something
- 1:18:30Speaker 2: to build on. Yeah.
- 1:18:31Speaker 4: You know, that's, that, that's sort of showing the development
- 1:18:34Speaker 4: of his game a little bit. And I wouldn't expect
- 1:18:36Speaker 4: him to be, you know, ever really the high volume guy.
- 1:18:40Speaker 4: And I don't think his snaps will spike all that much.
- 1:18:42Speaker 4: He'll probably get more playing time this week, tomorrow night
- 1:18:45Speaker 4: than he did, Last game, but those are the kinds
- 1:18:49Speaker 4: of plays. If Drake can develop a comfort, and he
- 1:18:53Speaker 4: certainly did on that play because Drake threw that ball
- 1:18:56Speaker 4: before he was even out of his break. And I
- 1:18:59Speaker 4: know why Troy was so excited about that play. I
- 1:19:01Speaker 4: think we all kind of thought the same way. That
- 1:19:03Speaker 4: was a big play in the game.
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: It was. Yeah. Mike and the OC, I think the
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: better question is whether this is about Ben Johnson's ego
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: shootout game potential. I think the better question is whether
- 1:19:12Speaker 2: Ben Johnson has the tightest pants among the tight pants coaches.
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: Evan probably has his own ranking for those tight pants guys.
- 1:19:19Speaker 2: I think Ben Johnson is probably number two behind Kyle Shanahan.
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: I think the LaFleurs are the tightest. They are very tight.
- 1:19:26Speaker 4: I always get them confused. Is it Matt is the
- 1:19:28Speaker 4: Green Bay head coach and Mike is the Arizona head coach?
- 1:19:31Speaker 4: So Matt LeFleur, I think, is the tightest.
- 1:19:33Speaker 2: Of the tight pants guys. So you mean literally his pants. Oh, yeah. Okay.
- 1:19:36Speaker 7: And the hair.
- 1:19:37Speaker 2: Oh, God, yeah. No use for that. You're talking about egos. Yeah.
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: What do you hate more? Sorry, is his hair or Kyle's?
- 1:19:42Speaker 7: Young, good-looking guys?
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: Yes. Or Shanahan's hat. Shanahan's hat or LeFleur's hat. I
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: hate Shanahan's hat. The straight red hat.
- 1:19:49Speaker 6: Are they all tight pants guys? Like, is Ben Johnson
- 1:19:51Speaker 6: considered that by Evan, or does he have, like, other.
- 1:19:55Speaker 4: He would be considered a tight pants guy. You know
- 1:19:56Speaker 4: the tight pants guy is kind of not literal, right?
- 1:19:59Speaker 6: Yeah, no, it's the young, like, rainy, offensive-minded, you know,
- 1:20:05Speaker 6: lab guys.
- 1:20:06Speaker 8: But, like, young, cool, Lululemon pants.
- 1:20:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I know exactly what it is.
- 1:20:11Speaker 7: And I think Mike LaFleur is the one.
- 1:20:13Speaker 2: Matt LaFleur.
- 1:20:15Speaker 8: Okay.
- 1:20:16Speaker 2: What's his name? The guy that was in Arizona. Shoot,
- 1:20:20Speaker 2: the guy that we drafted. Here, the quarterback. Cliff Kingsbury.
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: He's a tight pants guy. Tight pants guy. Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:20:29Speaker 2: Dable's not a tight pants guy, is he? No, no.
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: He fluctuates, though. Sometimes he can wear the tight pants.
- 1:20:35Speaker 8: It's kind of generational.
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: Sometimes his pants get tight. Mike in the OC says,
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: for the game, I think we're going to have a
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: primetime shootout. A.J. will get his first touchdown in a
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: Patriots uniform. 31-30, Patriots over the Bears. I could see
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: a game like that. Drake May 2-0 over Caleb Painted
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: Nails Williams.
- 1:20:55Speaker 4: Again, that's the reason why he can't play, according to
- 1:20:58Speaker 4: Patriots fans and media members as well.
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: Paul, very defensive of Caleb Williams.
- 1:21:05Speaker 7: If you don't think he can play, say, I don't
- 1:21:07Speaker 7: think he can play. He cried in college.
- 1:21:09Speaker 4: That's why people don't think he can play. That kind
- 1:21:12Speaker 4: of irritates me. Paints his nails and cried in college.
- 1:21:16Speaker 2: Can't play. Joe in Michigan, watching the Bears in Atlanta.
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: The Falcons literally handed the game to the Bears with turnovers.
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: I will take our team and coaching staff to take
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: care of business with a resounding win. Yeah, nothing to
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: worry about with turnovers for the Patriots.
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: Yeah, they got to get that figured out. I mean,
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: that's 30th in the league.
- 1:21:38Speaker 7: It's what he said. It's embarrassing. It's exactly what Mike
- 1:21:41Speaker 7: Rabel said on Monday.
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: You know, I mean, the only silver lining for me
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: is just that it's not Drake right now. You know,
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: it's not him putting the ball on the turf or,
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: you know, giving it, giving it away. So that, that's
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: got to continue, but you know, just better awareness and,
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: you know, force more turnovers too. You know, that's, that's
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: one thing I was saying to Ev and I think
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: Craig Woodson's kind of banged up.
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: I mean, he's on the injury.
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: Report with a shoulder, but I just, you know, this
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: isn't the most physical secondary that they've ever had. And
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: they just, it, I think the turnovers, they've got to
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: find ways to get more, and I think it's got
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: to come from up front. That's where their dogs are.
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: That's where the guys who kind of change the game.
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: I think they're smooth on the back end. I think
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: they're pretty smart. I mean, Marcus Jones is sticky. Kirsten
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: Gonzalez is sticky. Carlton Davis is physical and, you know,
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: plays his best in big games, but they're just, you know,
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: I'd love to see a little more physicality out of
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: that back-end group.
- 1:22:27Speaker 4: Yeah, the one thing, you know, and a lot of
- 1:22:28Speaker 4: people are talking about shootout Thursday. I think I would
- 1:22:32Speaker 4: be in that camp, but my one pause is, like,
- 1:22:35Speaker 4: the last time you saw that kind of game on
- 1:22:37Speaker 4: a Thursday night? It's like crisp and the points. I mean,
- 1:22:40Speaker 4: if it, it can be high scoring because there's turnovers
- 1:22:43Speaker 4: and it's a mess, but I'm talking about, yeah, high execution.
- 1:22:46Speaker 4: I would go back maybe that Seattle Rams game late
- 1:22:50Speaker 4: last season where it was like 30 years, like in
- 1:22:52Speaker 4: the high thirties, I think it was an overtime game.
- 1:22:55Speaker 4: That might be one of them, but I think turnovers
- 1:22:57Speaker 4: were involved in that game too. But I kind of
- 1:23:00Speaker 4: think it's going to be that kind of game.
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it's interesting because that's an example like
- 1:23:04Speaker 2: a division game, too.
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: These are two teams that don't know each other all
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: that well. Does that make it more likely or less likely?
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know, Mike. I don't know.
- 1:23:11Speaker 2: Andrew writes in, yesterday we were talking about how I
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: don't care for reporters who are dabbing up players in
- 1:23:19Speaker 2: the locker room or hugging guys. I don't think that's appropriate.
- 1:23:23Speaker 2: Andrew writes in, listening to the show, laughing at the
- 1:23:26Speaker 2: hypocrisy of Fred, talking about not touching hugging players with
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: absolute disgust. It was a reminder of the time he
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: smooched the goat. Is this an example of Fred projecting
- 1:23:36Speaker 2: his own flaws in his media peers? This is very
- 1:23:39Speaker 2: Christian from L.A. of Fred, saying one thing despite past
- 1:23:42Speaker 2: evidence undermining his statements. It's true. I don't report on
- 1:23:48Speaker 2: the team. I'm not a reporter. I'm an unabashed homer. So, like,
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: I don't. I don't have to worry about that kind
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: of stuff. If I was reporting on the team and
- 1:23:58Speaker 2: people were relying on my objectivity, I wouldn't be in
- 1:24:01Speaker 2: there hugging or kissing Tom Brady.
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: I love that that's become such a Pew lore story
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: because I think you told the show that in the
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: show or two before I had my tryout show with
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: you guys. I was listening to be up to speed
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: on what you guys were doing and then you told
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: the story.
- 1:24:19Speaker 4: I would have bet anything that you were here for that.
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: I think If it wasn't the tryout show itself, I
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: think it was. Because I think I was listening just to, A,
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: make sure nobody else came on.
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: And then you're like, what am I getting myself into? Well, yeah.
- 1:24:30Speaker 8: Did you know what the show was about?
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Oh, of course.
- 1:24:33Speaker 6: So it's not like you were trying to cram for
- 1:24:36Speaker 6: the first time.
- 1:24:37Speaker 2: No, I mean, you just want to know what the
- 1:24:39Speaker 2: topics are.
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: And I mean, I think I benefited because the Bruins
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: had just lost game seven to the Blues in the
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: cup finals.
- 1:24:48Speaker 2: The night before.
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: So I was coming in on like a hot hockey
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: topic day, which was good. Um, but no, I remember
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: I came in and Fred was here and we had
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: the old tables and then like, I didn't even know
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: that was a door. And then like Paul, Megan and
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: Eric walked through and I'm like, my God, here they come, like,
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: you know, like, the little squad, and now it's like,
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: you know, now it's like, no, I remember that was,
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: it was, it was fun, it was weird, it's all my,
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: you know, my family's listening.
- 1:25:10Speaker 2: In, like, to the job interview that I'm, like, you know,
- 1:25:12Speaker 2: gonna go on the show, but.
- 1:25:13Speaker 8: You told them ahead of time?
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: Well, yeah, I was like, you know, this is, I mean,
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: I was super excited, you know, psyching myself up, but
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: I remember I felt like I kind of incited a
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: fight right out of the beginning between these two, and I.
- 1:25:22Speaker 2: Was like, well, I think that was good, you know, like,
- 1:25:24Speaker 2: I got things going.
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: You know, because right off the top, I came in with, like,
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: Patriot take, you know, like, I remember being, like, can
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: they reproduce the run game from last year? That was,
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: you know, I wanted to come in with like, I
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: have an angle. I think about this stuff. I'm not
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: just going to sit there.
- 1:25:35Speaker 7: So what started that fight?
- 1:25:36Speaker 2: Do you remember?
- 1:25:37Speaker 7: Did Fred say it was Tuesday?
- 1:25:38Speaker 2: I said it was Wednesday.
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: I think it was kind of like around that, Paul.
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: I think it was like me talking about can they
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: replicate the run game again? And I think it got
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: into like, you know, what run game?
- 1:25:49Speaker 7: What are you talking about? The defense is not good.
- 1:25:52Speaker 2: Right, against Kansas City.
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: You know, it's still the same argument you make now
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: where they put 30-whatever on the board against Kansas City
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: the week before.
- 1:26:00Speaker 2: But that had been the theme of the week.
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: We changed our identity, and we became a running team,
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: and that's how we won the playoffs.
- 1:26:07Speaker 7: Oh, good shows.
- 1:26:08Speaker 2: I was just saying, I think they lost the fullback.
- 1:26:11Speaker 2: Did they lose Devlin that year, maybe? It was lining up.
- 1:26:15Speaker 2: They lost some of their offensive linemen. I didn't know
- 1:26:17Speaker 2: if they'd be able to reduce that.
- 1:26:18Speaker 4: I just remember being concerned with your sophomore year. I
- 1:26:21Speaker 4: wanted to know what happened, and I got to the
- 1:26:22Speaker 4: bottom of it.
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: I kissed him on the cheek.
- 1:26:26Speaker 4: I still get made fun of after the 07 Super Bowl.
- 1:26:29Speaker 4: You know, you go to the postgame party, undefeated seasons,
- 1:26:32Speaker 4: up in smoke, and I hugged Junior Seau.
- 1:26:36Speaker 2: Junior Seau.
- 1:26:37Speaker 4: And as soon as I stepped away, I was like,
- 1:26:38Speaker 4: I'm sorry, man. And as soon as I stepped away,
- 1:26:41Speaker 4: I look up and no socks. He's like staring at me,
- 1:26:43Speaker 4: just shaking his head in disgust.
- 1:26:45Speaker 7: He still makes fun of me for it.
- 1:26:46Speaker 2: That's the perfect person to see you do it. Yes, yes.
- 1:26:49Speaker 2: MJ says, look it, I'm getting tired of gotta hurry.
- 1:26:52Speaker 2: We got picks phrase. Do the picks in the beginning
- 1:26:55Speaker 2: of the show and get them over with. This way,
- 1:26:58Speaker 2: anyone who needs to get to the locker room can
- 1:27:00Speaker 2: still participate. Also, we don't have to hear this phrase
- 1:27:03Speaker 2: on repeat. Well, you know, MJ, I'd say you have
- 1:27:06Speaker 2: a good point, but screw you. But you don't. Screw you.
- 1:27:10Speaker 2: Fuck you.
- 1:27:12Speaker 4: Eric chiming in. Working blue like deuce.
- 1:27:15Speaker 2: You've got to save the picks for last. That's the
- 1:27:18Speaker 2: way it works. And we'll hurry. If we have to hurry,
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: we'll hurry. That's all there is to it. Let's see.
- 1:27:25Speaker 2: Noah says, quick question. I know we've got to hurry.
- 1:27:28Speaker 2: Has it ever been done where a trade was essentially
- 1:27:31Speaker 2: reversed in the same season or are there rules against it?
- 1:27:34Speaker 2: I was thinking with Marvin Haverson Jr. in Texas now.
- 1:27:39Speaker 2: that I think they will, but is it possible for
- 1:27:44Speaker 2: the Patriots to get Booty back for the season? Booty
- 1:27:47Speaker 2: ain't coming back. We've got a lot of emails. I
- 1:27:50Speaker 2: haven't written, I haven't read those. There's no rule against it. No,
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: there's no rule against it, but even I'm not like, yeah,
- 1:27:57Speaker 2: let's get Booty back. Takesie-backsies. No. Can't do takesie-backsies.
- 1:28:00Speaker 8: No trade-backsies.
- 1:28:01Speaker 2: No, yeah, no trade-backsies. All right. You know what? We've
- 1:28:06Speaker 2: got to hurry. Why don't you go to Christian first? Oh, yeah. Oh,
- 1:28:09Speaker 2: I didn't see him on there. Yeah, he's waiting to
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: talk about something. What's up, Christian? Hey, you guys.
- 1:28:17Speaker 15: Hey, you guys.
- 1:28:17Speaker 2: Hey, you guys.
- 1:28:18Speaker 13: And happy birthday, Alex.
- 1:28:20Speaker 8: Thanks, Christian.
- 1:28:21Speaker 13: I give you so much credit for putting up with Moe, Larry,
- 1:28:24Speaker 13: and Curly over there. And sometimes Shemp is there, too.
- 1:28:26Speaker 13: So I give you credit for putting up with the Stooges.
- 1:28:29Speaker 13: And I'm going to quickly, in about one second, two seconds,
- 1:28:33Speaker 13: teach you how to say happy birthday in Icelandic. It's
- 1:28:36Speaker 13: una is the word happy.
- 1:28:38Speaker 2: Mama. li, and da.
- 1:28:42Speaker 13: Una, ama, li, da.
- 1:28:44Speaker 2: Nobody asked for that. Are you Icelandic, Christian?
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: No, no, no.
- 1:28:50Speaker 13: I was married to someone from Iceland a long time ago.
- 1:28:52Speaker 2: Miss Iceland, remember? Oh, right, Miss Iceland. Yeah. Here we go.
- 1:28:55Speaker 13: Onto football. So, guys, I'm wondering, do we have anybody
- 1:29:03Speaker 13: that could really spy Caleb Williams? Is there a case
- 1:29:07Speaker 13: where we could take, like, our slot corner, like someone
- 1:29:11Speaker 13: quickly shifted, like, Marcus Jones, something like that, and just
- 1:29:14Speaker 13: sort of drop him into mid-coverage or something to spy Caleb?
- 1:29:19Speaker 13: Because that's the only thing, really, I see where we
- 1:29:22Speaker 13: have a disadvantage. I know they can stop the run
- 1:29:24Speaker 13: if we can contain the edges. That overmatch their receivers,
- 1:29:30Speaker 13: maybe Loveland gives us a little bit of trouble. But
- 1:29:32Speaker 13: for me, it's really about how do we stop Caleb Williams?
- 1:29:36Speaker 13: Have we ever used a spy or like a corner
- 1:29:38Speaker 13: to spy on a quarterback? Because Caleb is dynamic. Thank you, guys.
- 1:29:42Speaker 13: Have a great day, Alex.
- 1:29:43Speaker 2: They've used Christian Ellis in that regard. All right. Thanks, Christian.
- 1:29:47Speaker 4: I have a lot more concerns about some of the
- 1:29:49Speaker 4: things the Bears do offensively. Like, we're not worried about
- 1:29:52Speaker 4: setting the edge and stopping the run. Like, when did
- 1:29:54Speaker 4: they stop the run?
- 1:29:56Speaker 3: No.
- 1:29:56Speaker 2: Like, the Pittsburgh game, maybe? No. Yeah, I'm not concerned
- 1:30:00Speaker 2: about spying him. I just think it's a tough choice.
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: But I think if you get him into where he's
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: running all over the place and maybe he makes a
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: play or two, but I think it's a better place
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: to be than if he's just sitting in the pocket, comfortable,
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: picking you apart.
- 1:30:13Speaker 7: No, I think he can hurt you as a runner.
- 1:30:16Speaker 4: I don't know exactly what his health situation is.
- 1:30:21Speaker 2: We'll see.
- 1:30:21Speaker 4: Probably coming off three weeks off and then playing and
- 1:30:25Speaker 4: then having to come back four days later.
- 1:30:28Speaker 7: Probably not ideal.
- 1:30:29Speaker 4: Maybe he doesn't want to run a whole lot, but yeah,
- 1:30:32Speaker 4: I know I wouldn't be opposed to Christian's idea of
- 1:30:35Speaker 4: spying him a little bit. I think Christian Ellis has
- 1:30:37Speaker 4: the athleticism to do stuff like that. Um, certainly Marcus
- 1:30:41Speaker 4: Jones is a short tackler. Um, and it's not like it's,
- 1:30:45Speaker 4: it's not Josh Allen. So you're dealing with a small,
- 1:30:47Speaker 4: you know, Williams is like what? Six, six, one ish, right?
- 1:30:51Speaker 4: He's not, he's not Josh Allen. He's not going to
- 1:30:53Speaker 4: truck you. Um, he's going to run by you. So
- 1:30:55Speaker 4: maybe you do want to, a faster guy like Marcus
- 1:30:59Speaker 4: Jones to do that in space.
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: I'd rather have guys in coverage because I think I'm
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: more worried about him running and throwing than running and running.
- 1:31:05Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that these matchups are not, I think,
- 1:31:08Speaker 4: I like Gonzalez against anybody, virtually. So I like, if
- 1:31:13Speaker 4: it's Gonzalez against Adunze, I like Gonzalez on that. I'm
- 1:31:16Speaker 4: not just handing every other matchup to the Patriots, though.
- 1:31:18Speaker 2: I think, Luther Burton's a good player.
- 1:31:20Speaker 4: I think Kalief Raymond, your guy from Holy Cross, Mike,
- 1:31:23Speaker 4: I think has made some plays for them.
- 1:31:24Speaker 2: 32 years old coming through. He's made some plays for them, too.
- 1:31:26Speaker 2: All right, it's that time of the week. Do we
- 1:31:30Speaker 2: have to hurry? Kind of.
- 1:31:32Speaker 7: No, short.
- 1:31:34Speaker 4: Paul?
- 1:31:35Speaker 8: Evan's not here.
- 1:31:36Speaker 2: What happened last week? We had a couple of bye weeks.
- 1:31:38Speaker 2: Dare I ask. I mean, I don't even. Are you
- 1:31:41Speaker 2: guys even trying? I went 10-4.
- 1:31:45Speaker 4: Of course, Ernst & Young did not sanction these picks.
- 1:31:48Speaker 4: I did these all on my own. So that's why
- 1:31:51Speaker 4: I'm leaving. Because I keep the book.
- 1:31:53Speaker 2: That's why I'm winning. Because I cheat.
- 1:31:57Speaker 7: But I went 10-4. Evan with a rare good week
- 1:31:59Speaker 7: at 9-5.
- 1:32:00Speaker 8: Alex, 8-6.
- 1:32:00Speaker 2: Fred, 7-7. And Mike, 6-8.
- 1:32:01Speaker 7: With the spread, Paul was 9-5. Evan was 8-6.
- 1:32:14Speaker 4: Alex was 6-8. Fred was 4-10, but did hit his
- 1:32:18Speaker 4: upset special lock of the week.
- 1:32:20Speaker 2: I don't want to play anymore. Cleveland. You don't. I
- 1:32:22Speaker 2: don't want to play anymore. Mike, 3-11. 3-11. 3-11.
- 1:32:25Speaker 7: I am not having a good day.
- 1:32:25Speaker 2: So season standings, I am 63-29-1, followed by Alex at 54-38-1.
- 1:32:27Speaker 2: Good job, Alex, on your birthday.
- 1:32:28Speaker 7: Second place, not bad.
- 1:32:29Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 1:32:29Speaker 5: Mike, 51-41-1.
- 1:32:42Speaker 4: Fred, 50-42-1, and Evan, 49-43-1.
- 1:32:47Speaker 7: So, Fred, Evan's catching it. That's just poor to me.
- 1:32:51Speaker 7: He doesn't even watch the games. He picks the games
- 1:32:55Speaker 7: off a spreadsheet.
- 1:32:56Speaker 8: Look how good he did, though, when he was actually here.
- 1:32:58Speaker 2: Right. Let's see here.
- 1:33:00Speaker 7: Paul is with the spread now, 55-37-1.
- 1:33:02Speaker 2: Who is second? Alex, again, at 40-52-1.
- 1:33:10Speaker 7: Fred, 39-53-1.
- 1:33:11Speaker 2: Mike, 38-54-1.
- 1:33:12Speaker 7: And Evan, 37-55-1.
- 1:33:14Speaker 4: There's one behind me now.
- 1:33:19Speaker 2: I need a couple of perfect weeks to get back
- 1:33:22Speaker 2: in this thing.
- 1:33:23Speaker 7: No problem.
- 1:33:23Speaker 2: We got it.
- 1:33:24Speaker 7: All right.
- 1:33:25Speaker 2: I'm like 15 games ahead of everyone. I know, Paul.
- 1:33:28Speaker 2: Keep the books.
- 1:33:30Speaker 7: It's going to make it hurt a little more when
- 1:33:32Speaker 7: I blow that lead.
- 1:33:33Speaker 2: All right. We start by skipping over. The Patriots on
- 1:33:38Speaker 2: Thursday night. And we move to Sunday morning. Oh, Sunday morning.
- 1:33:44Speaker 2: Sunday morning. Yeah. It's another controversial NFL tape. This game
- 1:33:49Speaker 2: should be a riot. What?
- 1:33:50Speaker 7: What?
- 1:33:53Speaker 2: That was a good pun.
- 1:33:55Speaker 8: It's okay.
- 1:33:56Speaker 2: Yeah. So it's the Steelers against the Saints in France
- 1:34:00Speaker 2: at St. Denis. Stade de France.
- 1:34:04Speaker 7: Pittsburgh by three and a half.
- 1:34:07Speaker 2: Three and a half. Three and a half. All right.
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: Good win for Pittsburgh last week. Aaron Rodgers saying it
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: felt like they had to get that one because it
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: wasn't going to be easy to go out there to Paris.
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: I stink, so now I'm in my own head. I'm
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: just going to go with Pittsburgh and lay the points.
- 1:34:25Speaker 2: Pittsburgh.
- 1:34:26Speaker 7: I will take Pittsburgh, but I will take the hook.
- 1:34:30Speaker 2: Three and a half. I forgot this game was the.
- 1:34:35Speaker 4: The Paris game, I thought it was in New Orleans,
- 1:34:36Speaker 4: and I was going to pick a Fred Kirsch-like upset.
- 1:34:38Speaker 4: But neutral side, I'll take Pittsburgh to win the game,
- 1:34:42Speaker 4: but I'll take the points.
- 1:34:43Speaker 2: I'm right with Paul. Got to take the points here.
- 1:34:46Speaker 2: The Saints, you know, have to have a good showing.
- 1:34:48Speaker 2: They have a fleur-de-lis as their logo. I mean, come on.
- 1:34:51Speaker 2: That's true. You know? I love the mini accents for
- 1:34:55Speaker 2: Fred Kirsch. The fleur-de-lis. So, yeah, so Saints cover. I
- 1:35:00Speaker 2: was thinking of picking them to win. I was, too.
- 1:35:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:35:03Speaker 2: I don't know. All right, 1 o'clock on Sunday. It's
- 1:35:06Speaker 2: the 6-0 49ers at the 2-4 Falcons. San Francisco by three. Yeah,
- 1:35:16Speaker 2: I'll take San Francisco. I'll lay the points. Is this
- 1:35:20Speaker 2: disrespect to the 49ers?
- 1:35:21Speaker 8: It is to me. I don't understand why that's... I
- 1:35:25Speaker 8: don't know.
- 1:35:25Speaker 2: Think about it. Think about it.
- 1:35:27Speaker 8: Niners, Niners.
- 1:35:28Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm going to take Atlanta outright. I don't think
- 1:35:32Speaker 4: the Niners are as good as they've played. I can
- 1:35:34Speaker 4: say that.
- 1:35:34Speaker 7: Evan's not here to yell at me.
- 1:35:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I was going to say.
- 1:35:37Speaker 4: I do respect what they've done so far. You've got
- 1:35:40Speaker 4: to lose a game or two somewhere along the lines,
- 1:35:42Speaker 4: I think.
- 1:35:43Speaker 2: This could be one of them. So I'm just going
- 1:35:44Speaker 2: to play a hunch and roll the dice. Yeah, I'm
- 1:35:47Speaker 2: going to go Atlanta to cover, so I'm going to
- 1:35:48Speaker 2: split the baby. 49ers win, but Atlanta covers. But I
- 1:35:53Speaker 2: could very, you know.
- 1:35:55Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, I.
- 1:35:55Speaker 2: That three spread.
- 1:35:56Speaker 7: I'll give you guys a chance to get back in there.
- 1:35:58Speaker 2: Yeah, sure. That three spread tells you the Sharps know
- 1:36:01Speaker 2: something here. So that's why people like Paul would lean
- 1:36:05Speaker 2: to Atlanta because they know.
- 1:36:08Speaker 7: No, I'm just going off a short week.
- 1:36:09Speaker 2: Yeah, Joey the Nose knows something.
- 1:36:10Speaker 7: Short week on the road.
- 1:36:12Speaker 2: Just playing a hunch. Okay. Cincinnati, 3-2 at Baltimore, 4-2.
- 1:36:18Speaker 7: Baltimore by three.
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: I was trying to figure out if Lamar's going to
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: play or not. We haven't obviously gotten our injury report.
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: It sounded like he might.
- 1:36:27Speaker 2: I have no idea. No injury reports at this time. Well,
- 1:36:30Speaker 2: it's early for the rest of the teams. They haven't
- 1:36:32Speaker 2: started giving those reports yet.
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:36:36Speaker 2: Give me Cincinnati, the upset on the road.
- 1:36:38Speaker 13: Wow.
- 1:36:41Speaker 6: I was going to do that, and now I feel
- 1:36:43Speaker 6: less good about it.
- 1:36:45Speaker 8: I just think Cincinnati's better.
- 1:36:46Speaker 2: I think that's what she's saying. Felt like a shot.
- 1:36:50Speaker 2: Can we have, like, if Jackson plays, pick?
- 1:36:53Speaker 8: Yeah, because we got.
- 1:36:55Speaker 2: We got screwed with Jalen Hurts.
- 1:36:57Speaker 8: The second we left the studio, Jalen Hurts.
- 1:37:02Speaker 2: We all thought he was playing. You still did fine.
- 1:37:04Speaker 2: I would not have picked the Eagles. I can honestly
- 1:37:06Speaker 2: say that.
- 1:37:07Speaker 8: I wouldn't. That's absolutely fair.
- 1:37:11Speaker 4: I didn't realize, yeah, because by the time I did
- 1:37:13Speaker 4: the picks, because I wasn't here Thursday, I had already
- 1:37:16Speaker 4: known about that.
- 1:37:16Speaker 2: But that's absolutely fair. But I was so bad, like,
- 1:37:19Speaker 2: I don't really care. You know what?
- 1:37:20Speaker 7: I'm going to go back and add a win.
- 1:37:23Speaker 2: No, you don't have to do that. That's the luck
- 1:37:25Speaker 2: of the draw. That's the luck of the draw.
- 1:37:27Speaker 8: If I get this game wrong, you can add it
- 1:37:29Speaker 8: for this game. It takes Cincinnati, too.
- 1:37:31Speaker 2: Okay. Yeah, okay.
- 1:37:33Speaker 8: You like that?
- 1:37:34Speaker 2: Yeah, so this is a mulligan game. It's a free pick.
- 1:37:37Speaker 8: Fred and I have earned our mulligan for the season.
- 1:37:39Speaker 8: You get one.
- 1:37:40Speaker 4: Okay, I'm going to take Baltimore at home just to
- 1:37:43Speaker 4: bounce back after a tough division loss last week.
- 1:37:46Speaker 2: They need this one. Yeah, I really gave this a
- 1:37:49Speaker 2: lot of thought, this game, this particular game. I'm going
- 1:37:51Speaker 2: to take Baltimore because it's Cincinnati. All right. Did you
- 1:37:55Speaker 2: get it? I did. You like that? I did get it. Okay.
- 1:37:58Speaker 2: Sunday at 1, Tampa Bay 1-5 against Carolina 3-2. Mike's
- 1:38:03Speaker 2: Panthers playing well. Let's go.
- 1:38:04Speaker 7: Panthers by 3.5. Yeah, give me my Panthers.
- 1:38:10Speaker 2: And I'm going to lay the points. We don't have
- 1:38:13Speaker 2: any Baker news. Well, yeah, it's too early. Too early. Well,
- 1:38:19Speaker 2: the Giants declared J.J. McCarthy their quarterback. They did.
- 1:38:22Speaker 8: Carolina.
- 1:38:24Speaker 7: Yeah, I guess I'll take Carolina as well, and I'll
- 1:38:29Speaker 7: lay the three and a half.
- 1:38:30Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a division game. Anything can happen, but I
- 1:38:32Speaker 2: will take Carolina to win this game. Go with the favorite.
- 1:38:36Speaker 2: Sunday at 1, the Giants, 3-2-1-1. At Houston, 2-4. As
- 1:38:41Speaker 2: I said, J.J.
- 1:38:42Speaker 4: McCarthy will make his starting debut for the Giants. Houston
- 1:38:47Speaker 4: by 10. Two and four, Texans by ten. I'm going
- 1:38:52Speaker 4: to definitely take Houston to win. Yeah, I'm going to
- 1:38:58Speaker 4: lay them.
- 1:39:01Speaker 2: Minus ten. I feel better if it was Jameis Winston
- 1:39:04Speaker 2: because I know he'd give you a couple. I know, right?
- 1:39:08Speaker 2: I'll split it.
- 1:39:09Speaker 8: Houston to win. Giants.
- 1:39:11Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm with Alex. I'm going to take the points, too.
- 1:39:14Speaker 4: And I just that Texans defense has not played well.
- 1:39:18Speaker 4: And I can't lay 10 points until I see them
- 1:39:20Speaker 4: play like they did last year.
- 1:39:21Speaker 2: And they haven't done that. So I'll take Houston to win.
- 1:39:24Speaker 4: And by the way, I don't know if you guys remember,
- 1:39:27Speaker 4: someone said when they were 0-4 that they could still
- 1:39:29Speaker 4: creep back into this.
- 1:39:30Speaker 7: This could be 3-4 if they get this one.
- 1:39:33Speaker 2: So this is the houses with their hands out game. Yeah.
- 1:39:38Speaker 2: So what it is is that the Giants fans aren't betting.
- 1:39:43Speaker 2: So they're trying to get the New York money in.
- 1:39:45Speaker 2: So that's the only reason why it's a 10-point spread.
- 1:39:48Speaker 2: They're trying to get the Giants fans and New York fans,
- 1:39:53Speaker 2: metropolitan area, the tri-state area, to bring the money in,
- 1:39:56Speaker 2: to get that flowing.
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: It's just a whole other level that we're not aware
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: of that you have a handle on that just gives you.
- 1:40:01Speaker 2: Such an advantage.
- 1:40:02Speaker 4: And yet he's holding off Evan for last place.
- 1:40:04Speaker 2: I'm not saying this is an upset lock, but the
- 1:40:06Speaker 2: Giants went out right. The Giants went outright in this game.
- 1:40:10Speaker 2: And you have to look at something going on there. J.J.
- 1:40:13Speaker 2: McCarthy is going to be the quarterback. He obviously must
- 1:40:16Speaker 2: have played better than Jameis Winston in practice. He threw
- 1:40:19Speaker 2: for 240 yards in the fourth quarter last week. McCarthy? Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:40:23Speaker 2: So they like this guy.
- 1:40:24Speaker 4: I feel a window into the soul of why he's
- 1:40:26Speaker 4: playing so badly.
- 1:40:27Speaker 2: They like what they see out of him. Ten point
- 1:40:31Speaker 2: is weird. It's only because they want to bring in
- 1:40:33Speaker 2: the New York money. And Giants went outright.
- 1:40:38Speaker 4: If the Giants win this game outright, then you can
- 1:40:40Speaker 4: stick a fork in Houston. They've got to win these layups.
- 1:40:44Speaker 4: They've got to win the layups.
- 1:40:46Speaker 2: All right, Sunday at 1, Indianapolis 2-4 against Minnesota 5-0.
- 1:40:52Speaker 7: Minnesota by 6.5.
- 1:40:55Speaker 4: Colts, of course, fired their GM, Chris Ballard. Just the
- 1:40:59Speaker 4: first shooter drop. Not playing around.
- 1:41:04Speaker 2: Maybe he can get in the mix to replace him.
- 1:41:05Speaker 2: I'm going to take Minnesota. I mean, I'm going to
- 1:41:09Speaker 2: lay the points. I think Indy doesn't have their best
- 1:41:11Speaker 2: game coming out of that.
- 1:41:12Speaker 8: I'm going to take Minnesota, too. I'm going to lay
- 1:41:19Speaker 8: the points. I just, I don't know.
- 1:41:22Speaker 2: Yeah. The Colts are a mess. I'm going to go
- 1:41:24Speaker 2: with the crew here. I'm going to lay the points, too.
- 1:41:27Speaker 4: I could see being a tough day for Daniel Jones
- 1:41:29Speaker 4: with that Flores pressure package.
- 1:41:32Speaker 2: Yeah, Minnesota. I mean... This is another example of beginning
- 1:41:35Speaker 2: of season. You look at the schedule. If you're the Vikings, Oh, Indianapolis,
- 1:41:38Speaker 2: you know, they're back. They could be back to where
- 1:41:40Speaker 2: they were last year. It could be a tough game.
- 1:41:42Speaker 2: And I don't think it's going to be.
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: No.
- 1:41:44Speaker 2: Um, so Minnesota, both ways, Sunday at one, all eyes
- 1:41:50Speaker 2: on Miami at the New Jersey jets. Oh, and five against.
- 1:41:55Speaker 4: Two and four jets by four and a half. When
- 1:41:58Speaker 4: was the last time that jets were a four and
- 1:42:00Speaker 4: a half point favorite?
- 1:42:01Speaker 2: I don't know, but, uh, I don't know. Google it.
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: They showed a little frisk, though, as we've been saying.
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: I'll take the Jets at home, and I'm going to
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: lay the points.
- 1:42:13Speaker 2: Jets, Jets.
- 1:42:15Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm definitely taking the Jets to win. Yeah, you
- 1:42:18Speaker 7: know what?
- 1:42:20Speaker 4: I'll lay the points, too. Miami's been competitive, even though
- 1:42:24Speaker 4: they don't have any players. But I'm going to take
- 1:42:27Speaker 4: the Jets to take care of business at home.
- 1:42:29Speaker 2: Yeah, unfortunately, I'm going to be taking the Jets as well.
- 1:42:32Speaker 2: All right. We're still at Sunday at 1. It's the
- 1:42:35Speaker 2: Cleveland Browns at 4-2 against Tennessee Titans, 1-5.
- 1:42:40Speaker 4: Mike, my excitement about having a Thursday night game with
- 1:42:44Speaker 4: the ability to watch Red Zone is kind of diminished
- 1:42:48Speaker 4: once I actually saw the schedule.
- 1:42:50Speaker 2: Very true. Let's see.
- 1:42:52Speaker 7: Cleveland by 1.5.
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: I'm going to go with Cleveland.
- 1:42:58Speaker 2: Is Cleveland really going to be like 5-2? Ups and downs.
- 1:43:01Speaker 2: What is their record? Are they 4-2? Cleveland's 4-2. Are
- 1:43:03Speaker 2: they going to be 5-2? You know what I kind
- 1:43:05Speaker 2: of like? Todd Munkin.
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: He's very forthcoming and talking about how great it is
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: to win and I don't want to fall asleep tonight.
- 1:43:12Speaker 2: He's just like a normal dude.
- 1:43:13Speaker 4: Something to be said of getting a head coaching job
- 1:43:15Speaker 4: so late and just sort of.
- 1:43:17Speaker 2: Being out of bleeps to give.
- 1:43:20Speaker 7: And that's where he kind of strikes me as.
- 1:43:22Speaker 2: Me too. Yeah, I like him.
- 1:43:24Speaker 8: Brownies, brownies.
- 1:43:26Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:43:26Speaker 4: I don't, I mean, I've read a thing with my boy,
- 1:43:30Speaker 4: Ben Solak, who I've been enjoying his five things he
- 1:43:33Speaker 4: thinks or stuff like that, that he writes a little
- 1:43:35Speaker 4: takeoff on Peter King.
- 1:43:37Speaker 2: It's Peter.
- 1:43:38Speaker 4: I'm going to take Cleveland both ways, but he's like,
- 1:43:40Speaker 4: you know, this is a really good team that might
- 1:43:41Speaker 4: just be a quarterback away. Like Deshaun Watson hasn't played
- 1:43:45Speaker 4: very well for the most part. And when they've bogged down,
- 1:43:48Speaker 4: it's generally been because of quarterback play, but there's a
- 1:43:50Speaker 4: lot of pieces.
- 1:43:51Speaker 2: In place there.
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: Denzel Boston and Concepcion and Carson Sweshinger and, You know,
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: the guy from the Rams they traded Garrett for.
- 1:43:59Speaker 7: Who has not played well.
- 1:44:00Speaker 2: He hasn't.
- 1:44:00Speaker 7: Yeah, and that's kind of been a nothing trade because
- 1:44:03Speaker 7: they've gotten nothing from Garrett.
- 1:44:04Speaker 2: He hasn't even played.
- 1:44:05Speaker 4: Inverse has been quiet for the Browns. But I get
- 1:44:09Speaker 4: Cleveland both ways, Freddie.
- 1:44:10Speaker 2: One and a half. Yeah, I'm going to take Cleveland
- 1:44:12Speaker 2: as well. Tennessee, you wonder, like, with the incident that happened,
- 1:44:18Speaker 2: is their coach good enough to, like, use that to
- 1:44:20Speaker 2: kind of, hey, listen, we're a team, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:44:23Speaker 2: Or it's just shake the team. Yeah, I know. It's
- 1:44:25Speaker 2: so hard. It's such a weird situation. They're coming off
- 1:44:27Speaker 2: a win, too. Right. You know, I don't know what
- 1:44:31Speaker 2: you say. I mean, that's uncharted territory. Guy came back
- 1:44:33Speaker 2: with a gun. Yeah. Yeah, I do.
- 1:44:35Speaker 4: Generally, I would take a team like Tennessee because I
- 1:44:38Speaker 4: don't like picking teams that traditionally haven't been very good
- 1:44:42Speaker 4: when they're, quote, unquote, supposed to win. And this is
- 1:44:44Speaker 4: a game Cleveland's supposed to win, but I don't know.
- 1:44:47Speaker 4: I'm going to go with the stuff that Fred's talking about,
- 1:44:49Speaker 4: kind of, going to impact Tennessee a little bit in
- 1:44:51Speaker 4: a negative way.
- 1:44:53Speaker 2: All right. Sunday, four Oh five, um, last minute negotiations
- 1:44:57Speaker 2: happening in the NFL and Denver agreed to move the
- 1:45:01Speaker 2: game from Denver to Arizona. Um, the four and two
- 1:45:05Speaker 2: Broncos rarely on the road against the two and four.
- 1:45:09Speaker 7: Cardinals Denver by four and a half. Cardinals coming off
- 1:45:13Speaker 7: a win.
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: Yeah, Cardinals coming off a win. I'm going to take
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: a swing here and go with an upset. I'm going
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: to take Arizona, and I'll take.
- 1:45:20Speaker 2: How many points? Four and a half. Yeah, I'll take
- 1:45:22Speaker 2: the points, please.
- 1:45:23Speaker 8: I'll take Denver, and I will take them both ways.
- 1:45:27Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm going to take Denver both ways, too, but
- 1:45:29Speaker 4: it just kind of occurred to me as like... I'm
- 1:45:32Speaker 4: kind of proud that I'm leading the picks contest, but
- 1:45:34Speaker 4: the more I listen to the picks and the reasoning,
- 1:45:37Speaker 4: I don't really think I should be proud because you
- 1:45:38Speaker 4: guys just pick whatever you want to happen for the
- 1:45:40Speaker 4: Patriots in every game.
- 1:45:42Speaker 7: In between Fred's biases, he hates half the league, and
- 1:45:45Speaker 7: Mike's like.
- 1:45:47Speaker 4: Computer mind thinking about wild card tiebreakers and whatnot. I
- 1:45:53Speaker 4: don't know if I've really accomplished anything by having the lead.
- 1:45:57Speaker 2: Good stuff. I like that. Yeah, part of the negotiation
- 1:46:02Speaker 2: to move was the Broncos have to win. So Broncos
- 1:46:05Speaker 2: win this game. It's only two states.
- 1:46:07Speaker 7: All right.
- 1:46:09Speaker 2: Sunday, 425. It's Green Bay at 4-2 against the Lions, 3-2.
- 1:46:17Speaker 4: Good, good, solid NFC North battle that everybody's clamoring for.
- 1:46:21Speaker 4: It's only the 211th time these two teams have met.
- 1:46:24Speaker 4: You don't get to see it every day. Detroit by three.
- 1:46:29Speaker 2: Detroit by three. Hmm. It's a good one. I mean,
- 1:46:35Speaker 2: I feel like Green Bay is tough ones. Tough ones.
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: They're called turn things around a little bit. And Detroit
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: still has a stinky defense. But, you know, I'm going
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: to go with Green Bay on this one. Felt like
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: I was off them last week, but.
- 1:46:48Speaker 2: I'm back on.
- 1:46:49Speaker 8: I like the Green Bay upset, too.
- 1:46:53Speaker 4: Yeah, this is a tough one to call. I'm going
- 1:46:56Speaker 4: to take Detroit being at home. I think the offense
- 1:46:59Speaker 4: is a little too much. But, yeah, I can definitely
- 1:47:03Speaker 4: see Jordan Love looks like he's got it going on
- 1:47:05Speaker 4: a little bit with Christian Watson and Matthew Golden had
- 1:47:09Speaker 4: a little bit of an A.J. Brown kind of a
- 1:47:11Speaker 4: game last week. He had like three touchdowns that he
- 1:47:13Speaker 4: probably should have caught. Didn't catch any of them. If
- 1:47:17Speaker 4: they clean that up, I could see Green Bay winning.
- 1:47:19Speaker 4: But I'm going to take Detroit.
- 1:47:20Speaker 2: Really? You know Detroit is number one in the league
- 1:47:22Speaker 2: in points per game?
- 1:47:23Speaker 7: Yeah, Detroit and Buffalo's offenses have been terrific in every game.
- 1:47:27Speaker 2: Jameer Gibbs is a nightmare. But I like Green Bay
- 1:47:30Speaker 2: in this game. They know them. They know how to
- 1:47:32Speaker 2: deal with them. I think Green Bay wins. At Detroit,
- 1:47:38Speaker 2: I think their days have passed. You know, I make
- 1:47:40Speaker 2: fun of the Bills' window closing. I think the Lions'
- 1:47:43Speaker 2: window has closed. That one I think I agree with
- 1:47:45Speaker 2: you on.
- 1:47:46Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:47:47Speaker 2: I think that window has closed. Their contender window, I think,
- 1:47:50Speaker 2: is closed. Yes, right. Yeah, they still have a chance
- 1:47:52Speaker 2: to be a playoff team. Still a competitive team. Yeah. Sunday, 425.
- 1:47:57Speaker 2: The Rams at 2-4 against the Raiders, 3-3.
- 1:48:01Speaker 4: The Rams by 4.5.
- 1:48:04Speaker 7: The most disappointing team, I would say, of the last decade.
- 1:48:06Speaker 2: Yeah. The Rams. And it's interesting. Vegas, you know, showed
- 1:48:10Speaker 2: a little fight versus the Bills. They didn't, you know.
- 1:48:14Speaker 2: crawl home after losing to the Patriots. Um, you know,
- 1:48:17Speaker 2: can they do it again? I'm going to go with
- 1:48:20Speaker 2: the Rams.
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: I just have too much respect for their vets. Um,
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: and Sean McVay, I think they'll, they'll turn around against
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: the Raiders.
- 1:48:26Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:48:26Speaker 8: Rams really need to get right game. Lay the points.
- 1:48:30Speaker 4: Yeah, I will take the Rams, but I'm going to
- 1:48:32Speaker 4: take the points because the Rams just have not played well.
- 1:48:35Speaker 4: They're going to be without Devante Adams now for a while. Um,
- 1:48:39Speaker 4: Matthew Stafford, my boy, you know how much I love him.
- 1:48:42Speaker 2: He's looking old. Yeah, and you wonder how different the
- 1:48:45Speaker 2: Rams would be if Miles Garrett was playing. Because Aaron Donald,
- 1:48:51Speaker 2: he'll have a couple plays a game, but he's not
- 1:48:53Speaker 2: Aaron Donald.
- 1:48:54Speaker 4: Plus, he's an interior guy, so it's a little bit
- 1:48:57Speaker 4: tougher to impact the game as much as Garrett would.
- 1:49:00Speaker 2: But despite that, just I hate the Raiders, so I'm
- 1:49:03Speaker 2: going to go with the Rams to win the game
- 1:49:06Speaker 2: in coverage. um all right sunday night sunday night football
- 1:49:13Speaker 2: 8 20 the chiefs 5 and 0 at seattle 3
- 1:49:18Speaker 2: and 3 deuce we.
- 1:49:20Speaker 4: Could have used this one in the four o'clock window
- 1:49:22Speaker 4: yeah well i would have been strongly interested in watching
- 1:49:24Speaker 4: this one if it wasn't the uh the night game
- 1:49:26Speaker 4: seattle by two and a half.
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: I i think this is a kenneth walker game i'm
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: gonna go with kansas city um I think my theory
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: on Seattle is last year they threaded the needle with
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: Sam Darnold in the plays where they needed to get him.
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: He played well, but I think he doesn't have that
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: magic this year to thread the needle. And they don't
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: have Kenneth Walker anymore. They're damaged at running back. So
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: I think it's a Kansas City game.
- 1:49:50Speaker 2: They stay undefeated. I'll lay the points.
- 1:49:54Speaker 8: Two and a half?
- 1:49:55Speaker 7: Two and a half.
- 1:49:55Speaker 2: I'll take the points. Seattle by two and a half.
- 1:49:59Speaker 2: Two and a half. Seattle.
- 1:50:01Speaker 4: Yeah, I think much like San Francisco, you can't just
- 1:50:05Speaker 4: win every game. It's too hard to go undefeated. You've
- 1:50:09Speaker 4: got to lose somewhere. At Seattle, to me, is as
- 1:50:11Speaker 4: good a place as any. I take Seattle to sort
- 1:50:13Speaker 4: of get right. I hear what you're saying about Darnold,
- 1:50:16Speaker 4: but he turned the ball over more than any quarterback
- 1:50:18Speaker 4: in football last year, too, and they're just finding ways
- 1:50:20Speaker 4: to not win these games. I think they're close, and
- 1:50:24Speaker 4: I think they're going to. Knock off the Chiefs.
- 1:50:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I was hoping Paul would pick the Chiefs because
- 1:50:30Speaker 2: I have to pick Seattle in this game. Again, for
- 1:50:34Speaker 2: other reasons. Yeah. No, I think McDonald will have a
- 1:50:38Speaker 2: good game plan ready for the Chiefs, and I think
- 1:50:42Speaker 2: Seattle's defense wins the day. All right, Monday night, 8-15.
- 1:50:46Speaker 2: It's the 2-4 Cowboys against the 2-4 Hertzless Eagles. The
- 1:50:55Speaker 2: Cowboys by four and a half.
- 1:50:57Speaker 4: Who do you guys think will win the NFC least?
- 1:51:04Speaker 7: Don't all answer at once.
- 1:51:05Speaker 2: I don't know. I have reasons to tell you why
- 1:51:08Speaker 2: none of them will. I'm going to say Dallas will
- 1:51:10Speaker 2: win it.
- 1:51:10Speaker 6: It's all competitively bad.
- 1:51:14Speaker 2: I don't know. I think the Giants might pull it out,
- 1:51:17Speaker 2: but I don't know.
- 1:51:19Speaker 1: It's funny, too, because looking at Dallas' defense, like, I
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: like a lot of their defensive players.
- 1:51:23Speaker 2: Like, when I look at just the players on their defense,
- 1:51:25Speaker 2: I'm like, how are they this bad, you know? Some
- 1:51:28Speaker 2: of those veteran names have not played well. Yeah, I mean,
- 1:51:30Speaker 2: you know, but Caleb Downs is like, all right. I
- 1:51:33Speaker 2: do like him. Good player. And I like Quentin Williams, obviously. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:51:36Speaker 2: I'm going to take Dallas. And I... Shoot. I'm going
- 1:51:41Speaker 2: to split the baby, though. I'll take the four and
- 1:51:42Speaker 2: a half.
- 1:51:44Speaker 8: Dallas, Dallas.
- 1:51:45Speaker 2: I'm with Alex. Dallas, Dallas. I think Philly is going.
- 1:51:49Speaker 7: to go quickly.
- 1:51:50Speaker 4: Into tank mode, and I look for trade deadline activity
- 1:51:55Speaker 4: from Howie Roseman.
- 1:51:59Speaker 2: Philly could be going into go-to-court mode with this investigation
- 1:52:04Speaker 2: about how they dealt with Jalen Hurts. You didn't see
- 1:52:06Speaker 2: the NFL doctor that spoke at the owners' meeting yesterday? No.
- 1:52:10Speaker 2: Nothing to see here. Nothing to worry about. Well, I mean,
- 1:52:14Speaker 2: there's a reason why there's an investigation, right? Absolutely. It
- 1:52:17Speaker 2: should be.
- 1:52:18Speaker 7: I don't know the details, so I'm not going to
- 1:52:19Speaker 7: weigh in.
- 1:52:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know either.
- 1:52:20Speaker 4: There should be some kind of investigation just to see
- 1:52:23Speaker 4: exactly what happened.
- 1:52:24Speaker 2: But anyway, so I can't think that that's going to
- 1:52:27Speaker 2: help that team this year, that whole situation. So Dallas,
- 1:52:32Speaker 2: both ways, as much as I can't stand picking the
- 1:52:34Speaker 2: Cowboys because they win too much off the field for
- 1:52:37Speaker 2: them to also win on the field. It's not fair.
- 1:52:41Speaker 2: It's not fair. All right, now we move back. To
- 1:52:46Speaker 2: tomorrow night, Thursday night football on Amazon Prime. It's the
- 1:52:52Speaker 2: Patriots at 4-2 against the Bears at 4-2.
- 1:52:57Speaker 7: Chicago by three. And curious, Fred, you mentioned that this
- 1:53:01Speaker 7: was disrespectful.
- 1:53:03Speaker 2: To the Patriots, right? Is that what you said earlier
- 1:53:06Speaker 2: in the show? Or did you say it was disrespectful
- 1:53:08Speaker 2: to Chicago?
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:53:09Speaker 13: Oh.
- 1:53:10Speaker 7: I think I misread that then.
- 1:53:11Speaker 4: Because you gave me the look, and I was like,
- 1:53:12Speaker 4: did I get that wrong?
- 1:53:13Speaker 2: If I was Chicago, I'd be like, oh, we should
- 1:53:15Speaker 2: be favored by more. Oh, you thought you should be
- 1:53:16Speaker 2: favored by more than that. Yeah. Oh, okay.
- 1:53:18Speaker 7: I don't. I think this is a good spread.
- 1:53:20Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:53:21Speaker 4: I think these are two good teams. Thursday night kind
- 1:53:23Speaker 4: of muddies the water a little bit. They're both banged
- 1:53:26Speaker 4: up a little bit. Patriots probably more so than the Bears, but.
- 1:53:29Speaker 2: Yeah, that's why it holds it down a little bit.
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: I'm going to go with the Bears in this one.
- 1:53:34Speaker 12: I think.
- 1:53:35Speaker 2: Patriots have a chance. I feel like as the weeks progress,
- 1:53:37Speaker 2: like we make our pick.
- 1:53:37Speaker 4: On Monday morning and I was like, well, you talk
- 1:53:39Speaker 4: yourself into it every time you think the Patriots are
- 1:53:41Speaker 4: going to lose on Monday.
- 1:53:42Speaker 7: By the time Thursday comes around.
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: I'm already up, but I'm going to stick with the
- 1:53:45Speaker 1: bears this time. I, I'm not saying the Patriots don't
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: have a chance. I'm going to say bears 28, 24.
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: I just think it's home field advantage. Patriots have been
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: banged up. They got a big win against the jets
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: last weekend. And, and I think it's a lot. Um, but,
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: Like I said, I don't rule out these Mike Rabel Patriots.
- 1:54:00Speaker 7: They're very good in this spot.
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: Be competitive in these kind of games. So I expect
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: it to be competitive. I just think Thursday night, the
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: score's not going to be in the 30s. It's not
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: going to be low 30s. You know, low 30s, high 20s.
- 1:54:09Speaker 2: I think it's in the 20s. The short week keeps
- 1:54:12Speaker 2: it down. So, yeah, Chicago 28-24.
- 1:54:14Speaker 8: Flip his with the opponent.
- 1:54:18Speaker 4: Sticking with your PU on TV score.
- 1:54:21Speaker 8: Someone's got to be the company gal.
- 1:54:24Speaker 4: Well, on your birthday, too. You know, we'll make sure you...
- 1:54:27Speaker 4: So 28, 24 Patriots.
- 1:54:29Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:54:29Speaker 2: Says Alex.
- 1:54:31Speaker 6: I feel like, like Mike said, we talked about this
- 1:54:33Speaker 6: early in the week too. Like they just are good.
- 1:54:35Speaker 8: In these spots. They're good at these primetime matchups.
- 1:54:38Speaker 4: And I, I absolutely believe in the Mike Grable's good
- 1:54:43Speaker 4: in this spot thing. Like I've seen it a couple
- 1:54:45Speaker 4: of times now, two years in a row in Buffalo. Uh,
- 1:54:48Speaker 4: this one was even way worse than last year. I
- 1:54:50Speaker 4: don't think anybody thought they were going to win this,
- 1:54:52Speaker 4: this one. Um, I haven't really heard a lot of
- 1:54:55Speaker 4: that this week. I haven't heard people saying, Patriots got
- 1:54:58Speaker 4: no shot Thursday night. So I'm not sure that this
- 1:55:00Speaker 4: is that spot.
- 1:55:02Speaker 7: You know what I mean?
- 1:55:02Speaker 4: I'm not sure it's the same as the Buffalo games.
- 1:55:07Speaker 4: It is primetime, but, you know, to Fred's point, it's
- 1:55:10Speaker 4: only a three-point spread. you know, the home team, you know,
- 1:55:13Speaker 4: I think if the Patriots were home, the Patriots probably
- 1:55:15Speaker 4: be favored by three in this game.
- 1:55:16Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:55:16Speaker 2: And remember, you know, Buffalo, it was just kind of
- 1:55:19Speaker 2: the beginning of the big injuries, you know? Yeah.
- 1:55:21Speaker 4: And you had been missing two corners going into that game.
- 1:55:24Speaker 4: I think that sort of factored in as well. And
- 1:55:27Speaker 4: I don't think missing two guards is as important as
- 1:55:30Speaker 4: missing two cornerbacks.
- 1:55:31Speaker 2: No disrespect.
- 1:55:31Speaker 7: No disrespect to all the guards out there. My son
- 1:55:34Speaker 7: was a guard in high school.
- 1:55:35Speaker 2: Believe me.
- 1:55:36Speaker 4: Now I'm going to take Chicago to win the game.
- 1:55:39Speaker 4: I think Mike is right about the Thursday night thing,
- 1:55:41Speaker 4: but despite that, I'm going to go exactly what you said.
- 1:55:44Speaker 4: You didn't think it was going to be. I'm going
- 1:55:46Speaker 4: to say 31-27. I think it's going to be a shootout.
- 1:55:48Speaker 4: I think Drake May is going to play well and
- 1:55:50Speaker 4: give the team a chance to win, but I think
- 1:55:53Speaker 4: that Ben Johnson offense is going to be a little
- 1:55:55Speaker 4: bit too much on a short week.
- 1:55:57Speaker 2: If we were doing the old Dan Shaughnessy head-to-head matchup, Boston,
- 1:56:04Speaker 2: clam chowder versus deep dish pizza, clam chowder. Windy City
- 1:56:08Speaker 2: versus Hub of the Universe, Windy City, you know, he
- 1:56:11Speaker 2: would do all that. I think Chicago wins those, but
- 1:56:14Speaker 2: they don't win this game. Mayor Daley against Mayor Crowley.
- 1:56:18Speaker 2: You know, Shamrock versus Shamrock. They both have the Shamrock.
- 1:56:23Speaker 2: That's his Dan Shaughnessy voice. Yeah, I'm going to go
- 1:56:27Speaker 2: with the Patriots, our Patriots. And when they come back,
- 1:56:31Speaker 2: I'm going to give them all hugs, MJ.
- 1:56:34Speaker 7: I will say, Fred.
- 1:56:35Speaker 9: All hugs.
- 1:56:37Speaker 2: No kisses.
- 1:56:38Speaker 4: For Mike and I, in trying to get our picks right,
- 1:56:41Speaker 4: that's a good sign. Because whenever you pick against the Patriots,
- 1:56:44Speaker 4: it's almost a guaranteed Patriots win.
- 1:56:46Speaker 2: That's true. Yeah, I get it wrong. All right, so
- 1:56:50Speaker 2: that's it. The picks are in, except for Evans.
- 1:56:55Speaker 4: I'll get Ernst & Young. In other words, that's Alex.
- 1:56:59Speaker 4: She's usually there when I win.
- 1:57:00Speaker 2: It's all on the above board. All right, so we've
- 1:57:02Speaker 2: got the pregame show starts what time? 6. Seven? Seven o'clock.
- 1:57:07Speaker 2: Seven o'clock. Eastern time. Eastern Standard Time. Seven o'clock Eastern time.
- 1:57:12Speaker 2: And then the post-game show immediately following. You guys will
- 1:57:14Speaker 2: be going into the wee hours of the morning with that.
- 1:57:17Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:57:18Speaker 2: Yeah. You know, I'll be on a plane coming back,
- 1:57:20Speaker 2: getting in at five in the morning. You're getting in
- 1:57:23Speaker 2: at five in the morning? 445.
- 1:57:24Speaker 1: Oh.
- 1:57:24Speaker 2: It stinks. We'll be home by then. Yeah, I think so. Yeah.
- 1:57:29Speaker 2: Unless you want to just extend the show. Right. You know. Right.
- 1:57:32Speaker 2: What's that? What's that now? PP and the Deuce-a-thon. PP
- 1:57:33Speaker 2: and the Deuce.
- 1:57:34Speaker 8: So the game will be over by what, 11, 11.15, 11.30? So, yeah,
- 1:57:36Speaker 8: we're out of here by 1.15.
- 1:57:37Speaker 2: Home by 2.15?
- 1:57:37Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:57:37Speaker 7: I can live with that.
- 1:57:38Speaker 2: I'll just bring a sleeping bag. I can live with that.
- 1:57:50Speaker 2: I might actually.
- 1:57:51Speaker 4: Have to babysit tomorrow, actually.
- 1:57:54Speaker 2: I mean, Friday. For my niece's daughter. A real baby? Yeah.
- 1:57:58Speaker 2: How do you babysit? She's like two. No, one. One
- 1:58:00Speaker 2: and a half. You just tie him up in the
- 1:58:01Speaker 2: corner and just watch TV?
- 1:58:02Speaker 7: Give me a Diet Pepsi. I might have to change
- 1:58:04Speaker 7: a diaper. That's the last time I've done that.
- 1:58:06Speaker 2: Did you hear about the guy who literally duct-taped his
- 1:58:09Speaker 2: wife to a chair in the basement so he could
- 1:58:11Speaker 2: watch football in peace?
- 1:58:12Speaker 7: I thought for sure that that would be in the
- 1:58:15Speaker 7: heart of Texas or Florida.
- 1:58:18Speaker 2: It was like Virginia. They arrested him, right?
- 1:58:20Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:58:20Speaker 2: You can't duct-tape people.
- 1:58:21Speaker 8: It was real.
- 1:58:22Speaker 2: It wasn't like a joke. It was like abduction.
- 1:58:24Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:58:24Speaker 2: Like a prisoner. Yeah. I feel for you, dude. I
- 1:58:29Speaker 2: just want to watch football. Luckily, my wife likes to watch, too.
- 1:58:33Speaker 7: So does mine.
- 1:58:34Speaker 2: So we're simpatico there. Not mine.
- 1:58:36Speaker 7: No?
- 1:58:37Speaker 13: No.
- 1:58:37Speaker 7: Deuce has different problems.
- 1:58:39Speaker 8: Lane, watch out.
- 1:58:40Speaker 7: Deuce will be apple picking on Sunday. Deuce will be
- 1:58:44Speaker 7: apple picking on Sunday.
- 1:58:46Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:58:47Speaker 7: Driving up 95 to peek at the foliage.
- 1:58:50Speaker 2: Thank you for watching. Free and post-game show. We'll see
- 1:58:53Speaker 2: you next Tuesday. Hey, this is Deuce. Thanks for tuning
- 1:58:57Speaker 2: into the show.
- 1:58:58Speaker 11: If you really want to help us, make sure you
- 1:58:59Speaker 11: like us wherever you get your podcasts, like Apple Podcasts
- 1:59:02Speaker 11: or Spotify. Also, make sure you follow us on the
