- 0:12Speaker 2: The World's a Pigeon podcast.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:22Speaker 3: Initially, when I said to Alex, was gonna be peeping
- 0:24Speaker 3: the deuce and She's like, I need a poop name.
- 0:26Speaker 4: All of Paul's son's friends are commenting.
- 0:29Speaker 5: I was great for engagement because they were all like,
- 0:31Speaker 5: mister p mister peril, mister.
- 0:36Speaker 6: Fit was tied a drips. Do you like girls and crocs?
- 0:43Speaker 6: I don't know why that sounded exceptionally creepy, but.
- 0:45Speaker 3: It's a it's a god given talent. Curious if any
- 0:48Speaker 3: of you saw Paul's Twitter fight was Seth Davis.
- 0:52Speaker 7: I found myself on the couch. However, they crossed the
- 0:55Speaker 7: line when they accused him of openly rooting for the
- 0:57Speaker 7: team as a parallel disciple. I jumped in with proof
- 0:59Speaker 7: of Paul not being a homer and defended Paul's honor.
- 1:02Speaker 6: I was just hoping some of you got the same enjoyment.
- 1:04Speaker 6: Seth Davis gets under my skin, like I don't think
- 1:07Speaker 6: anybody else does. On Twitter.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Touchdow touch Craft.
- 1:10Speaker 6: I'm gonna throw that in with my wrist. There you go.
- 1:14Speaker 3: Evans Live reaction to the cold strange draft pick. If
- 1:17Speaker 3: you guys haven't heard it, it's it's it's hilarious.
- 1:20Speaker 8: This is Patriot's Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's official website.
- 1:25Speaker 3: For deals, buy a Toyota dot com.
- 1:29Speaker 2: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 1:33Speaker 2: at you Lees.
- 1:34Speaker 9: Stadium, and we are officially in the month of April.
- 1:38Speaker 9: And you know what that means. We're that much closer to.
- 1:41Speaker 3: The draft twenty two days, yea twenty three day.
- 1:44Speaker 9: I'm genuinely excited about this. Yeah, yeah, I really am,
- 1:47Speaker 9: as you should.
- 1:48Speaker 3: I'm excited because it's all gonna happen fast. You know,
- 1:50Speaker 3: like there's not gonna be a lot of like sitting
- 1:51Speaker 3: around waiting to see who falls to you. You're gonna
- 1:53Speaker 3: know in like like the first half hour what's going down.
- 1:56Speaker 6: Absolutely third overall pick right to it.
- 1:59Speaker 3: But then you got to sit around to be like
- 2:00Speaker 3: we getting back in could I mean that top of
- 2:04Speaker 3: the second round pick is valuable? Yeah, you know, well
- 2:07Speaker 3: that's when you get to like, you know, eleven eleven
- 2:09Speaker 3: thirty at night. It's it feels like the Knight's kind
- 2:10Speaker 3: of wrapping down. People are leaving and all of a sudden,
- 2:13Speaker 3: you know, there's always seems like somebody trades back in.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Patriots are back on the clock, and then it's like
- 2:17Speaker 3: go time again, all of a sudden, out of nowhere,
- 2:19Speaker 3: so they'll be ready for that.
- 2:20Speaker 9: So it's Deuce, it's Evan, it's Paul, it's me, it's
- 2:23Speaker 9: Jules and Matt and the booth and we're talking Patriots
- 2:26Speaker 9: for the next two hours and anything else that's going on.
- 2:30Speaker 9: So that brings me to the next question, what's going on?
- 2:34Speaker 3: Oh, I think we're getting into silly season. We were
- 2:36Speaker 3: recording a segment for Draft Countdown before this, and that's
- 2:38Speaker 3: you know, this is the part where things start to
- 2:40Speaker 3: come out. That's just like, what really with you know
- 2:43Speaker 3: the report yesterday that Elliot wolf Is is into JJ McCarthy,
- 2:47Speaker 3: So you know, it's one of those things're like, really, maybe,
- 2:49Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 2:50Speaker 9: Well, that's been going on for a couple of weeks
- 2:52Speaker 9: now that the Patriots have interest in JJ McCarthy. Now
- 2:55Speaker 9: I don't know who started that. I know we have
- 2:57Speaker 9: some Michigan people that work up in admin. Maybe they
- 2:59Speaker 9: start it, but I blame Zoe. I mean, let's just say,
- 3:06Speaker 9: should they have interest in JJ McCarthy.
- 3:09Speaker 3: No, wow?
- 3:11Speaker 6: Should they?
- 3:12Speaker 10: Yeah, in the interest of no stone unturned?
- 3:16Speaker 6: Yes? Yeah.
- 3:18Speaker 10: I think that they should have interest in all the quarterbacks,
- 3:21Speaker 10: and they should be doing the homework on all the quarterbacks,
- 3:23Speaker 10: which is why I'm so surprised that they don't seem
- 3:25Speaker 10: to want to touch Michael Pennock with a ten foot pole.
- 3:27Speaker 9: I don't know if that don't don't judge by what
- 3:30Speaker 9: they're doing, because you know they Let's just say, this
- 3:34Speaker 9: is the other thing that just drives me crazy about
- 3:36Speaker 9: like people reading into not just what the pages, but
- 3:39Speaker 9: any team. Let's just say that you Michael Pennix has
- 3:43Speaker 9: a lot of tape. He's been playing a lot of
- 3:46Speaker 9: football for a while, right, yep.
- 3:49Speaker 2: What else do you need to know?
- 3:50Speaker 10: Well, so, why don't you want to know the guy?
- 3:52Speaker 9: Like, no, no, but that doesn't he could be coming
- 3:55Speaker 9: here at some point. Just because you didn't go to
- 3:57Speaker 9: his pro day doesn't mean he's not coming here.
- 4:01Speaker 2: So like, don't read into all that stuff. Don't fall
- 4:03Speaker 2: into the trap.
- 4:04Speaker 10: So it was it just was reported yesterday or the
- 4:07Speaker 10: day before that, probably yesterday his list of thirty visits
- 4:10Speaker 10: that he's had scheduled so far, and the Patriots aren't
- 4:13Speaker 10: on the list.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Okay, well, then they don't have interesting.
- 4:17Speaker 10: It's one or the other. They love them and they
- 4:20Speaker 10: don't want anybody to know, or they have zero interesting.
- 4:22Speaker 10: He's off the board because injuries or whatever.
- 4:25Speaker 6: So can I just like take a you know, kind
- 4:27Speaker 6: of a logical way outside. Look, if the Patriots loved
- 4:31Speaker 6: Michael Pennix, why would the need for a smoke screen?
- 4:36Speaker 6: Maybe they want him to last a thirty Oh I'm
- 4:38Speaker 6: not saying it's a smoke screen.
- 4:39Speaker 9: I'm just saying we've got what we need on him.
- 4:41Speaker 9: We don't need to do anymore.
- 4:42Speaker 6: No, No, But a lot of people are, you know, sort
- 4:45Speaker 6: of talking about like what Evan just said, Like, you know,
- 4:47Speaker 6: so either they really like him or they have no
- 4:49Speaker 6: interest in him because they haven't really done any real research.
- 4:53Speaker 6: I agree with you, like you can figure out to me,
- 4:57Speaker 6: I think they would have been more of a presence
- 4:59Speaker 6: at the pro day if they had a lot of
- 5:01Speaker 6: interest in them. But I just don't understand not Evan
- 5:05Speaker 6: didn't say this. Evan's sort of talking to the people
- 5:07Speaker 6: that are trying to like what does it mean? What
- 5:09Speaker 6: does it mean? Like I just can't imagine what, Like
- 5:12Speaker 6: why do you have to downplay him when you have
- 5:14Speaker 6: the third pick and if you want him to last
- 5:18Speaker 6: to thirty four? There's a lot of teams that need quarterbacks. Yeah,
- 5:23Speaker 6: in that teens area, Like it's.
- 5:27Speaker 3: Kind of a stretch. I think, like the Patriots are
- 5:28Speaker 3: gonna wait and they don't want anything to take them.
- 5:30Speaker 3: They're gonna take them at the top of the side.
- 5:32Speaker 6: Does that make sense to people? I'm gonna send set
- 5:36Speaker 6: up a smoke screen so people don't think I'm interested
- 5:38Speaker 6: him at thirty four, Or maybe.
- 5:41Speaker 10: It's a trade down with the Vikings and you have
- 5:43Speaker 10: eleven and twenty three and one of those two picks
- 5:45Speaker 10: turns into Michael Pennox.
- 5:47Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 5:47Speaker 10: I just in years past Belichick has done this where
- 5:50Speaker 10: the guy they end up the one that I always
- 5:53Speaker 10: remember his Nate Soldier, who was as shocked as anybody
- 5:56Speaker 10: that they that the Patriots were on the other side
- 5:58Speaker 10: of the phone when he got the call in the
- 6:01Speaker 10: first round. This happened sometimes where teams are just so
- 6:05Speaker 10: stand offish with the prospect that but.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Even that, I don't think it was a smoke scream.
- 6:10Speaker 6: No, And Solder actually told us, you remember, because he
- 6:13Speaker 6: came into the studio and I remember talking to him
- 6:15Speaker 6: right outside the studio and he said he came away
- 6:18Speaker 6: from the meeting with them. He didn't think that they
- 6:20Speaker 6: loved him. Yeah, he didn't think that was going to
- 6:22Speaker 6: be one of the teams. You're right, you remember it, right, Evan.
- 6:25Speaker 6: He didn't think it was one of the teams. But
- 6:26Speaker 6: they did meet with him, and they.
- 6:28Speaker 2: To him, and they sent Dante out, you know, a
- 6:30Speaker 2: couple of days.
- 6:31Speaker 6: After the one that said that was you know, sold
- 6:34Speaker 6: on him.
- 6:35Speaker 9: Yeah, And I think according to Dante, it wasn't like
- 6:37Speaker 9: they were trying to hide it.
- 6:39Speaker 2: It was just somebody like, hey, we should check this
- 6:41Speaker 2: guy out.
- 6:42Speaker 9: And Bill said, all right, go go look at him.
- 6:44Speaker 9: And Dante came back and he was like, you need
- 6:46Speaker 9: to take this.
- 6:47Speaker 6: It is one of those things though, with all these reports,
- 6:49Speaker 6: you can make it mean anything you want and you're
- 6:51Speaker 6: not wrong or right.
- 6:53Speaker 3: Just for comparison, seek to weather and at the two
- 6:54Speaker 3: pro days, it was was pretty much like a VP
- 6:58Speaker 3: Mayo Macadoo, yep, TC McCarty.
- 7:01Speaker 10: Mean, the whole people that were the same eight people
- 7:04Speaker 10: at both pro days, but there was nine total. But
- 7:06Speaker 10: they Cam Williams went to Washington for their pro day
- 7:10Speaker 10: and I can't remem remember the other scout's name. I'll
- 7:14Speaker 10: look it up in a second. He switched places with
- 7:16Speaker 10: Cam Williams and came in for the UNC pro day.
- 7:19Speaker 9: And not to say that it's a smoke swee, but
- 7:21Speaker 9: let's just say that. You know, again, you have all
- 7:24Speaker 9: the tape you need on Michael Pennix. You didn't go
- 7:27Speaker 9: to his pro day. He's not on your he's not
- 7:30Speaker 9: one of your thirty visits. That doesn't mean you still
- 7:33Speaker 9: can't go out there and visit with him one on one.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Right.
- 7:35Speaker 10: The biggest thing to me is just it's not about
- 7:38Speaker 10: watching his pro day. It's about getting to know the kid,
- 7:41Speaker 10: That's what I mean. You know, you can take them
- 7:42Speaker 10: out to dinner and getting to know him a little bit.
- 7:44Speaker 2: You can still do that even if he's not coming here. Yeah,
- 7:47Speaker 2: you know.
- 7:48Speaker 6: So it just would would have thought that the convenient
- 7:50Speaker 6: time to do that is when he's there.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Yeah that's Pro day.
- 7:54Speaker 9: But you know, like, but you have to share time
- 7:58Speaker 9: with other teams. You can go out and schedule your
- 8:00Speaker 9: own have spend a day with them.
- 8:03Speaker 6: You know. Yeah.
- 8:03Speaker 10: I was listening to the Move the Sticks podcast and
- 8:05Speaker 10: Daniel Jeremiah told a story about when he took a
- 8:08Speaker 10: prospect out for dinner good night before his pro day
- 8:11Speaker 10: and he said, you know, order whatever you want, like
- 8:13Speaker 10: we're paying, order whatever you want. And the player didn't
- 8:16Speaker 10: want to order anything, and Daniel Jeremiah is like, are
- 8:19Speaker 10: you not hungry? Like what's going on here? He's like, no,
- 8:21Speaker 10: I have two more of these after this, so I'm
- 8:24Speaker 10: I pacing myself for the next meal. So he's like, yes,
- 8:27Speaker 10: I just sat there by myself and made a steak
- 8:29Speaker 10: all by myself at the table and this kid just
- 8:32Speaker 10: sat there and we just you know, I just fired
- 8:33Speaker 10: off questions and he answered water.
- 8:36Speaker 6: You know when they go to the pro days and
- 8:38Speaker 6: they have separate meetings like not they don't meet with
- 8:41Speaker 6: everybody that goes to the protece, I know, like you
- 8:43Speaker 6: have on your own. No.
- 8:45Speaker 9: But if you if you go to the LSU pro day,
- 8:48Speaker 9: this good. You get your time with Daniels. But the
- 8:50Speaker 9: other teams are gonna spend time with him too. There
- 8:53Speaker 9: they came out to see him.
- 8:54Speaker 6: But everybody's gonna do. But like you understand, like that
- 8:57Speaker 6: doesn't matter. When you do it, you're not sharing time
- 9:00Speaker 6: a time by yourself.
- 9:01Speaker 2: You're getting a time by yourself. But you don't have
- 9:02Speaker 2: all day.
- 9:04Speaker 6: You have whatever amount you want.
- 9:06Speaker 9: No, you don't have any amount you want because other
- 9:08Speaker 9: teams need to see them on that day as well.
- 9:10Speaker 6: So okay, so then you can schedule another time like
- 9:14Speaker 6: the next day exactly. This is what I'm saying.
- 9:16Speaker 2: That's what I just said.
- 9:17Speaker 6: No, you would think that it would be convenient when
- 9:19Speaker 6: he's at Washington and you are there to watch him.
- 9:22Speaker 6: You can get it all done.
- 9:23Speaker 9: It once they have these things called airplanes. Now you
- 9:26Speaker 9: can get anywhere you want, like like within hours.
- 9:30Speaker 6: Yeah, So I don't understand why you wouldn't just do
- 9:32Speaker 6: it when you know he's there, Because why you're setting
- 9:34Speaker 6: up separate like this whole Oh because someone else is there,
- 9:37Speaker 6: Like no, it's why they want it there.
- 9:39Speaker 9: Maybe you want to spend more time than what's available
- 9:41Speaker 9: on that day or weekend.
- 9:42Speaker 6: Then do what you did with May and Daniels, because
- 9:44Speaker 6: evidently they had separate meetings with them.
- 9:47Speaker 9: I'm sure they did, but I'm just saying maybe maybe
- 9:51Speaker 9: I'm just saying every guy is different, you know, just
- 9:54Speaker 9: like Nate Solder, and you never know, you know, you
- 9:58Speaker 9: can't tell anything right now in terms of what the
- 10:02Speaker 9: I'm telling.
- 10:02Speaker 2: The Patriots don't know who they're gonna pick right now.
- 10:04Speaker 6: They know they know who they want to pick, But
- 10:08Speaker 6: what what if Daniels, you know, what if they don't
- 10:11Speaker 6: like Daniels and all of a sudden may go second,
- 10:14Speaker 6: and now.
- 10:15Speaker 10: You know, my biggest my biggest takeaway trying to read
- 10:19Speaker 10: read the room at these pro days was just watching
- 10:22Speaker 10: at both days the Commander's brass and the Patriots brass
- 10:27Speaker 10: stand directly front and center behind the quarterback as he
- 10:30Speaker 10: was doing his throwing session, and it was almost like
- 10:33Speaker 10: everybody else was like, well, these two guys are one
- 10:35Speaker 10: of you know, they're going to these two teams, Like
- 10:37Speaker 10: why even bother you know, trying to get a good
- 10:39Speaker 10: seat for this because and then at the end of it,
- 10:42Speaker 10: Mac Brown took a picture with Gerrodmeo and Dan Quinn
- 10:48Speaker 10: just being like, my guy's going to play for one
- 10:50Speaker 10: of you two, so let's take a picture for it
- 10:52Speaker 10: just felt like, you know, there was no Giants contingent,
- 10:55Speaker 10: there was no Minnesota contingent, There wasn't anybody else that
- 10:58Speaker 10: was really thinking we have any shot of I think the.
- 11:02Speaker 6: Patriots like they feel that way, Like Washington's taken one
- 11:06Speaker 6: of two guys. So we're gonna have the option for
- 11:08Speaker 6: one of two quarterbacks, and they have to know. If
- 11:13Speaker 6: it's a quarterback, then we're gonna take him. If it's
- 11:15Speaker 6: b quarterback and they don't like him, then here's the
- 11:18Speaker 6: contingency plan. It's Marvin Harrison, it's Joe Walt, it's whoever,
- 11:21Speaker 6: it's straight down, whatever the cases may be. But I
- 11:25Speaker 6: got to think that they they know. I hope they know.
- 11:31Speaker 6: Can I ask that I wanted to ask you about that.
- 11:32Speaker 9: Go ahead, friend, Kelly the coach, you know, Daniels, coach
- 11:36Speaker 9: at LSU, kind of slipped out and kind of intimated
- 11:39Speaker 9: that the commanders are going to take his guy.
- 11:42Speaker 2: I like it. What do you think that he just
- 11:43Speaker 2: mess up?
- 11:44Speaker 6: Do you think he screwed up?
- 11:45Speaker 3: I mean, my initial thing was just that he was
- 11:49Speaker 3: acknowledging that Caleb Womas is going to go first, but
- 11:50Speaker 3: that his guy was the second best guy, and that
- 11:52Speaker 3: that was That was kind of how I took it.
- 11:54Speaker 6: Okay, that's interesting. I hadn't heard that theory.
- 11:57Speaker 3: That was That was my interior theory. I thought that's
- 12:00Speaker 3: kind of how I wanted to hear too, So I.
- 12:03Speaker 6: Go, you know, as you guys know, I go to
- 12:06Speaker 6: deep places. I thought it sounded funny. I thought the
- 12:10Speaker 6: Washington part sounded different than the rest of the audio.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Did he say with a Southern was it?
- 12:15Speaker 11: No?
- 12:15Speaker 6: Hedn't have said what maybe that it kind of sounded
- 12:20Speaker 6: funny to me, like that the audio could have possibly
- 12:23Speaker 6: been doctored in some way. But I haven't heard anybody
- 12:26Speaker 6: because it hasn't really been a huge thing.
- 12:29Speaker 9: No, No, I heard it kind of like in passing.
- 12:32Speaker 9: It's like, oh, you know, he thinks he certainly thinks
- 12:35Speaker 9: the commanders are.
- 12:35Speaker 6: Gonna take him. Someone told me that that happened with
- 12:38Speaker 6: Stroud last year, and it was wrong. It was Carolina.
- 12:41Speaker 6: Someone had talked to I don't know if it was
- 12:45Speaker 6: Ryan Day or someone in Ohio state talked about that,
- 12:48Speaker 6: and you know that's you know, in Carolina, we'll got
- 12:50Speaker 6: a good or something like that.
- 12:52Speaker 9: And then you know, I don't know if this is
- 12:54Speaker 9: a continuation of my rant last week. But you know,
- 12:56Speaker 9: we're still hearing all the media people complaining because Gerard
- 13:01Speaker 9: Mayo's all over the place, he's not giving us, you know,
- 13:04Speaker 9: he's not answering. He's all over you know, you don't
- 13:06Speaker 9: know if.
- 13:07Speaker 2: They're picking third or trading down good? Like, why do
- 13:11Speaker 2: they expect Gerard Mayo to just tell them what we're doing?
- 13:14Speaker 6: Like he's the king of doing this to me? But
- 13:16Speaker 6: I don't know where these comflict. I don't know.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Oh you haven't. Oh my god.
- 13:20Speaker 6: It's like he's all over the place. It's word salad.
- 13:23Speaker 6: It's I've heard word salad. I haven't heard. He's not
- 13:25Speaker 6: telling us what they're doing. Well, that's what those are
- 13:27Speaker 6: two different things, that's what you know.
- 13:28Speaker 2: It's like he talks a lot, you know. But but I.
- 13:31Speaker 6: Don't think people are looking at it. He talks a lot,
- 13:33Speaker 6: and he doesn't tell us Why you're not telling us that?
- 13:35Speaker 6: Why you're not telling us who they're going to take
- 13:36Speaker 6: with the third pick?
- 13:37Speaker 11: Right?
- 13:37Speaker 6: No one talked more than without saying anything than Bill.
- 13:40Speaker 2: Of course, that's like you. They all do that.
- 13:43Speaker 3: You work in NFL media, You better get used to
- 13:45Speaker 3: word salad because you're gonna beating it's just about every day.
- 13:47Speaker 6: I don't think people are wondering why Gered Mayo won't
- 13:50Speaker 6: tell them what they're taking with the third pick. But
- 13:52Speaker 6: that's me.
- 13:52Speaker 9: You know, he said he was going to be what
- 13:55Speaker 9: he say at the owner's meeting, I'm going to be
- 13:59Speaker 9: Chris still lies our plans or something like that, if
- 14:02Speaker 9: you get the word he used.
- 14:03Speaker 2: He did.
- 14:04Speaker 9: He didn't do anything like that. He didn't crystallize the plans.
- 14:06Speaker 9: Of course, he's not going to He's not going to
- 14:08Speaker 9: tell you what their plans are. Why are we surprised
- 14:11Speaker 9: at that?
- 14:12Speaker 3: No, I mean I think I think I've been there
- 14:14Speaker 3: for just about everything he said this offseason, and I
- 14:18Speaker 3: think he's, you know, doing a good job. It just
- 14:20Speaker 3: like I don't know that you know, I mean, he's
- 14:22Speaker 3: he touches on the hits, but he doesn't can you know,
- 14:24Speaker 3: you know, they need But even.
- 14:25Speaker 9: On that first day when he was announced to the
- 14:27Speaker 9: media and he said, we're going to take you know, uh,
- 14:32Speaker 9: the best player at a very important position, and everyone
- 14:34Speaker 9: you know said quarterback. And I can understand that, but
- 14:37Speaker 9: wide receiver is an important position. Tight ends, I mean,
- 14:40Speaker 9: now left tackle is an important position.
- 14:42Speaker 2: So like, relax, he's.
- 14:45Speaker 3: Given you enough to kind of have some fun with,
- 14:47Speaker 3: but but you're not going to pin him down. And
- 14:48Speaker 3: that's to be.
- 14:49Speaker 10: The more that I hear from him though, at the
- 14:51Speaker 10: owner's meetings especially, his eyes are widening to trading down
- 14:56Speaker 10: a little bit.
- 14:56Speaker 6: I think just.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Because I think, well the owner said it too.
- 14:59Speaker 10: I I just think that they feel like it's it's
- 15:02Speaker 10: going to be a long process, that they can't just
- 15:04Speaker 10: drop a quarterback in here and flip a switch. And
- 15:07Speaker 10: I think, you know, looking at a team like the Texans,
- 15:09Speaker 10: it took them a couple of years before they drafted
- 15:12Speaker 10: the court. They had two full draft classes before they
- 15:14Speaker 10: drafted C. J. Stroud in Houston, And I just that's
- 15:18Speaker 10: that's the only thing that I took away from any
- 15:20Speaker 10: of his comments recently was him saying the thing about
- 15:24Speaker 10: the more picks that you have, the better off you
- 15:26Speaker 10: are and that sort of stuff.
- 15:27Speaker 9: Well, you know, the thing we have no idea about
- 15:29Speaker 9: is if they do trade down, is there a quarterback
- 15:33Speaker 9: consolation prize that they'd be happy with.
- 15:35Speaker 2: That's either you take it.
- 15:36Speaker 10: And that's the other thing that he said. He said,
- 15:38Speaker 10: there's five or six quarterbacks in this class, so we
- 15:40Speaker 10: know the four and I assume you know, Pennix and
- 15:42Speaker 10: Knicks are the five and six. Maybe, yeah, I do,
- 15:46Speaker 10: I do I think that bo Nicks is the most
- 15:48Speaker 10: exciting prospect. No, he's kind of he's kind of an elasto.
- 15:53Speaker 9: That JJ McCarthy is now four like he's up there now, Like, No,
- 15:58Speaker 9: that wasn't the way it was three months ago, two
- 16:00Speaker 9: months ago.
- 16:01Speaker 3: I'm not surprised. I mean, that's kind of how it goes,
- 16:03Speaker 3: I think with especially with the player who won the
- 16:05Speaker 3: national championship and you know, had a great season, and
- 16:08Speaker 3: I just think as people, you know, I mean, it's
- 16:09Speaker 3: the it's the unknown, that's what everyone's kind of drilling
- 16:12Speaker 3: down on. I think i'd feel fine with him in
- 16:14Speaker 3: the mid first round.
- 16:15Speaker 9: And in defense of McCarthy, it's not like he's shown
- 16:19Speaker 9: he can't do things. He just hasn't done them right
- 16:22Speaker 9: to a large extent.
- 16:23Speaker 10: And I just don't like and I know I'm on
- 16:26Speaker 10: an island on this. I don't see him as an unknown.
- 16:29Speaker 10: I actually think that he's one of the safer picks
- 16:32Speaker 10: out of all these guys, because you know that he
- 16:35Speaker 10: can play as a sidecard like he can he can
- 16:38Speaker 10: do just enough on big game situations. You know, he's
- 16:42Speaker 10: really really good on third down when he had some
- 16:44Speaker 10: opportunities to play close games in the fourth quarter, he
- 16:47Speaker 10: was pretty good in those situations. That's why I keep
- 16:49Speaker 10: going back to Brock Party as the comparison, because I
- 16:52Speaker 10: think that.
- 16:52Speaker 2: He's got some about Matt Jones.
- 16:54Speaker 10: I think he's more talented than Mac like.
- 16:56Speaker 6: Physically Rock Party stinks, yeah, And I think J. J.
- 16:59Speaker 6: Mccarr Dorothy is pretty average too.
- 17:02Speaker 10: That didn't go the way I don't think that brought
- 17:05Speaker 10: Purty stinks and some of it's like performative on my
- 17:07Speaker 10: part with Purdy, But I think that he is a
- 17:10Speaker 10: system quarterback. I think that he is a guy that
- 17:13Speaker 10: you plug him in and he's able to make some
- 17:14Speaker 10: of the plays that allow that the offense is allowing
- 17:17Speaker 10: him to make.
- 17:18Speaker 6: And I think J. J.
- 17:18Speaker 10: McCarthy's the same way. I think if you put J.
- 17:21Speaker 10: Jon McCarthy on Minnesota next year and he has Justin
- 17:24Speaker 10: Jefferson and Jordan Addison in a good play caller and
- 17:26Speaker 10: Kevin O'Connell, I think he would be fine. The difference
- 17:30Speaker 10: between everybody else with me and McCarthy is I don't
- 17:33Speaker 10: necessarily see his ceiling as like, oh, he's this ball
- 17:36Speaker 10: of clay that in three years he's going to be
- 17:38Speaker 10: this incredible quarterback. I actually see him as like I
- 17:42Speaker 10: can win an Action championship with this.
- 17:43Speaker 9: What is he done to prove that to be true
- 17:46Speaker 9: for you? Like he's his ceiling isn't that high.
- 17:49Speaker 10: I just don't think that he has great post snap
- 17:53Speaker 10: decision making and accuracy. I think that he the accuracy
- 17:57Speaker 10: when you watch him. You know, some of the throws
- 17:59Speaker 10: that he made at the cop where he's airmailing deep
- 18:01Speaker 10: outs like ten, that's all over his film at Michigan.
- 18:05Speaker 10: That's not just like an issue that you saw at
- 18:07Speaker 10: the combine. I think that some of the times, you know,
- 18:10Speaker 10: he throws the ball into team meetings just for no reason,
- 18:13Speaker 10: and he has some bad decisions post snap with the football.
- 18:16Speaker 10: I don't think that those things are everybody disassumed taking. Yeah,
- 18:20Speaker 10: but Drake May does it like as a playmaker, like
- 18:23Speaker 10: I think JJ McCarthy is doing it in structure like JJ.
- 18:26Speaker 10: Like Drake May is a lot like Josh Allen, where
- 18:28Speaker 10: like you're going to have some of those like yeah no, no,
- 18:31Speaker 10: yes type of throws. I don't think JJ McCarthy has
- 18:34Speaker 10: those types of physical tools. I think he's an instructor.
- 18:39Speaker 10: I don't want to use the word game manager, because
- 18:40Speaker 10: I think that that's a little cool, but just a
- 18:43Speaker 10: rock party type that. Yeah, he brought party, brought his
- 18:46Speaker 10: team to the super Bowl. You know, like that's that's
- 18:48Speaker 10: not an easy feed. And I think that JJ McCarthy
- 18:51Speaker 10: could do the same. I just don't look at JJ
- 18:53Speaker 10: McCarthy as the guy that you draft and now all
- 18:55Speaker 10: of a sudden your team is a contender, you know, like,
- 18:57Speaker 10: I don't think that he's going to be the reason
- 18:59Speaker 10: why you're winning games.
- 19:00Speaker 3: That's why I'm I'm I'm just Jayden Daniels.
- 19:03Speaker 10: Yeah, I think Jayden Daniels could because of his running ability.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Okay, but that's.
- 19:07Speaker 3: Why I feel like I'm kind of out on a
- 19:09Speaker 3: lot of these guys except for Drake May right now.
- 19:11Speaker 3: And I just I think that this team needs to
- 19:14Speaker 3: shoot for the stars with the quarterback position, and.
- 19:17Speaker 9: So give Gopher Caleb williamsh Yeah, I mean, I I
- 19:21Speaker 9: mean I think he's he's a ride.
- 19:23Speaker 3: He's a ride. I mean, I think he's gonna He's
- 19:25Speaker 3: either gonna.
- 19:25Speaker 6: I know that a lot of people think he will be.
- 19:27Speaker 6: He's not going to be available.
- 19:29Speaker 2: If you trade, if you are willing to give up
- 19:31Speaker 2: a king's ransom, No, Chicago.
- 19:34Speaker 3: Yeah, I wouldn't be willing to do that, but I
- 19:36Speaker 3: just I just wonder if you miss on May, if
- 19:38Speaker 3: you really have to take the obligatory Spencer Rattler you
- 19:42Speaker 3: know later, like it's it's just to get guys that
- 19:46Speaker 3: you think have ceilings. I'm so sick of just talking
- 19:48Speaker 3: about guys. Well, he's got a low floor and he's
- 19:50Speaker 3: going to be okay, like high floor, Like he's got
- 19:53Speaker 3: a low floor. I thought.
- 19:56Speaker 9: So, if you're Chicago and someone wants to give you
- 19:59Speaker 9: a mic get a deal, you don't settle for the
- 20:02Speaker 9: third quarter for selection three and take a boatload of picks.
- 20:06Speaker 6: I wouldn't. I mean, you're just talking about a Mike
- 20:09Speaker 6: Dickett thing. Yeah, so you get you trade your draft
- 20:11Speaker 6: for Yeah, no, great, I have two sixth and seventh
- 20:15Speaker 6: round pick. No, okay, not if I believe in the
- 20:17Speaker 6: quarterback now you want to Like it's silly. It's like
- 20:20Speaker 6: a herschel Walker kind of trade, you know, where I'm
- 20:23Speaker 6: getting multiple first round picks for years to come. Maybe
- 20:26Speaker 6: I think about that, but I probably wouldn't, and I
- 20:28Speaker 6: don't think Chicago would because I don't think they would
- 20:31Speaker 6: have traded justin Field so they had indecision. Maybe I
- 20:34Speaker 6: think they sort of know what they want to do
- 20:36Speaker 6: and that they're convinced that he's the guy to do it.
- 20:39Speaker 9: Maybe they also like Jayden Daniels or Drake May, but
- 20:42Speaker 9: you know, I don't know.
- 20:43Speaker 2: I don't know. I wouldn't do it either, just for
- 20:46Speaker 2: the record, but like, I don't rule anything out.
- 20:50Speaker 11: Now.
- 20:51Speaker 3: You kind of have to pick what you want to
- 20:52Speaker 3: what you don't want to get this year. And I mean,
- 20:54Speaker 3: of course you can take late round shots on guys,
- 20:56Speaker 3: but you know, I, like I said, with Minnesota's picks,
- 20:59Speaker 3: it seems like, wow, if you had those two picks
- 21:01Speaker 3: and you weren't worried about a quarterback, you could hit
- 21:03Speaker 3: it out of the park with a tackle and a
- 21:04Speaker 3: receiver that are exactly what the Patriots kind of need.
- 21:07Speaker 3: So right now I'm of the mind of and I'm
- 21:09Speaker 3: kind of like souring a little bit on Jadene Daniels,
- 21:11Speaker 3: Like I'm like, if May's there, take them, if not,
- 21:14Speaker 3: trade down, try to fill those other needs. And like, honestly,
- 21:17Speaker 3: I'm almost at a point now where I'd rather just
- 21:18Speaker 3: roll with Jacobe Prissette for a season than have to like, well,
- 21:22Speaker 3: Spencer Ratler's waiting in the wings behind, you know, like
- 21:24Speaker 3: like that kind of conversation which just feels forced. Don't
- 21:27Speaker 3: force it, you know, put the pieces in place, and
- 21:29Speaker 3: when you have a first round pick, take a swing
- 21:31Speaker 3: on a big time talented guy that if it hits,
- 21:33Speaker 3: you're going to be great.
- 21:34Speaker 6: What if it goes unlike what we think because we
- 21:36Speaker 6: all kind of think it's going to be Daniels, it
- 21:38Speaker 6: too right, and it'll be May. But what if it
- 21:40Speaker 6: goes the other way?
- 21:40Speaker 3: What if May goes to That's what I'm That's what
- 21:42Speaker 3: I mean. That's why I'm almost to the point right now.
- 21:44Speaker 3: Like I mean, I think a couple of weeks ago,
- 21:46Speaker 3: I was saying, just take which one's there, and I
- 21:48Speaker 3: don't know. I'm just I'm worried about Daniels. I'm worried
- 21:50Speaker 3: about Daniels because exactly just because of that.
- 21:54Speaker 6: No, I mean, I like them both. I like May more,
- 21:57Speaker 6: but I like them both. And I've sort of been
- 21:59Speaker 6: talked to into a little bit more with Daniels, but
- 22:02Speaker 6: I don't understand, Like, so you're saying, like you don't
- 22:05Speaker 6: want to do it with Daniels, which I'm not saying.
- 22:07Speaker 6: I don't understand why you don't like Daniels, because.
- 22:09Speaker 3: I do still get that now, I do still like it,
- 22:11Speaker 3: but I just so you know, like you.
- 22:12Speaker 6: Don't want to be locked into this Spencer Spencer Rattler,
- 22:15Speaker 6: then like, well, if you don't take someone at three,
- 22:17Speaker 6: you're locked into one of those.
- 22:19Speaker 3: Yeah, right, And I don't really like any of those,
- 22:21Speaker 3: and so it's hard.
- 22:23Speaker 10: I think Bo Nicks is fine, maybe in the a
- 22:27Speaker 10: little bit higher than the Spencer Rattler, like a little
- 22:29Speaker 10: bit more potential than that, but you know, he's at
- 22:32Speaker 10: best in Alex Smith, you know, maybe a Baker Mayfield
- 22:35Speaker 10: if you really want to get and.
- 22:36Speaker 3: The other guys that you take at that spot maybe
- 22:39Speaker 3: in the late first early second, like you would run
- 22:41Speaker 3: to lock a guy down, like you know what, we're
- 22:43Speaker 3: gonna plug a guy in there, and instead of rolling
- 22:45Speaker 3: the dice on bow Nicks, and you know, then we're
- 22:47Speaker 3: going to spend the next you know, first three months
- 22:48Speaker 3: of the season talking about bow Knicks being behind Jacoby
- 22:51Speaker 3: Brissatt and you know what's going on behind the scenes,
- 22:53Speaker 3: and when's Bo gonna get his chance?
- 22:55Speaker 6: And Mike he obviously blows.
- 23:00Speaker 10: I would say if you draft a guy like bow Knicks,
- 23:02Speaker 10: then I think he'll play early because he's twenty four already.
- 23:05Speaker 3: He's been to college for six years.
- 23:07Speaker 2: So it's just like he's twenty four, he's about thirty.
- 23:10Speaker 6: It's not even about like you gotta get them on
- 23:12Speaker 6: the field because he's getting old. It's more just like
- 23:14Speaker 6: he's probably ready right at that age. You know he's playing.
- 23:16Speaker 3: He's close to being what he's going to be, is
- 23:18Speaker 3: he is.
- 23:19Speaker 6: That's the biggest thing.
- 23:20Speaker 3: That's what Daniels a little bit too.
- 23:21Speaker 10: That's the biggest thing I think that's changed my mind
- 23:23Speaker 10: about it all is when you really think about it,
- 23:26Speaker 10: what would Drake may be in two or three years
- 23:31Speaker 10: if he stayed in college football for another two or
- 23:33Speaker 10: three years like.
- 23:34Speaker 3: These guys and then play with two first or J. J.
- 23:37Speaker 10: McCarthy like to give him credit to you know, he's
- 23:39Speaker 10: also twenty twenty one years old. These other guys like
- 23:42Speaker 10: you have to think that Daniels and Knicks, Pennix, like
- 23:46Speaker 10: those guys are out there are coming up to their ceilings.
- 23:48Speaker 10: Like I don't think physically they're going to get much bigger, stronger,
- 23:51Speaker 10: faster at twenty four to twenty five years old than
- 23:53Speaker 10: they already are like I know, we always go back
- 23:55Speaker 10: to Brady, but it's it's one of one. Like Brady
- 23:57Speaker 10: reinvented himself. That's not easy to do, you know. I
- 24:00Speaker 10: think these most of these guys are are what they
- 24:02Speaker 10: are by that point of their life.
- 24:04Speaker 3: And you were and you were watching them play last
- 24:06Speaker 3: season with all that experience, like at the height of
- 24:08Speaker 3: their powers as far as college football. So I mean
- 24:10Speaker 3: that's you know, it's I.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Get him into the pro program program, you know.
- 24:14Speaker 10: I think Daniels Daniels, I know, there's a lot of
- 24:17Speaker 10: questions about his frame and like he's like, you know,
- 24:20Speaker 10: he's two hundred and ten pounds. But looking at him
- 24:23Speaker 10: a little bit up close, I thought that he looks
- 24:26Speaker 10: like an athlete though, Like it's not like he's Taekwon
- 24:28Speaker 10: thorin where he's got you know, skin and bones, Like
- 24:31Speaker 10: he looks like.
- 24:32Speaker 3: He's working out the PA.
- 24:34Speaker 10: We'll see he looks. He looks like an athlete, you know,
- 24:38Speaker 10: maybe more like an NBA player than a football player,
- 24:41Speaker 10: but like there's there's an athletic frame there. It's I
- 24:44Speaker 10: don't think that he's quite as fragile just because of
- 24:47Speaker 10: he weighs a certain amount that I thought initially.
- 24:49Speaker 3: The thing I kind of feel like it is hard
- 24:51Speaker 3: with him that just is in the back of my
- 24:52Speaker 3: mind is and I mean this like to respect Lamar Jackson,
- 24:54Speaker 3: who's really he's always had that amazing running ability, but
- 24:57Speaker 3: he's you know, been able to kind of settle into
- 24:59Speaker 3: an offense. And I think it's it's just hard for
- 25:01Speaker 3: those kind of players to not go to the well,
- 25:04Speaker 3: you know, like and it's it's if it's not going right,
- 25:06Speaker 3: you're like, screw it, I'm just running. And you know,
- 25:08Speaker 3: when you have that kind of to fall back on,
- 25:10Speaker 3: can you ever? You know, and that Lamar has, but
- 25:13Speaker 3: can another player do it?
- 25:14Speaker 6: And that's me that's when Justin Fields's problem. I think
- 25:17Speaker 6: when he's at his best, he's saying, screw it, it's
- 25:19Speaker 6: not there. I'm just gonna run. But he hasn't proven
- 25:21Speaker 6: that he can do it the conventional way.
- 25:24Speaker 10: Yeah, I think the one thing you can give Jaden
- 25:26Speaker 10: Daniels over Lamar as a prospect is I think Jayden
- 25:29Speaker 10: Daniels is a little bit further along with his mechanics
- 25:32Speaker 10: and his throwing ability.
- 25:33Speaker 6: Then then Lamar.
- 25:34Speaker 10: Lamar had some issues, you know, coming out in terms
- 25:37Speaker 10: of he definitely.
- 25:38Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 25:39Speaker 10: You know, Lamar had had footwork issues. His release was funk.
- 25:42Speaker 10: He's kind of had that shot put type of release.
- 25:44Speaker 10: It's that they had to fix.
- 25:46Speaker 2: You know.
- 25:46Speaker 10: So Jaden Daniels throws a really smooth, fluid throwing motion.
- 25:50Speaker 6: You know it really let me Lamar's latrell.
- 25:53Speaker 2: Let's just say. You know, you've got McCarthy is the fourth.
- 25:56Speaker 2: Who's the fifth? Penix?
- 25:57Speaker 6: Probably? All right?
- 25:58Speaker 9: So those top five guys, are they all better than
- 26:01Speaker 9: what Tua was coming out of college?
- 26:04Speaker 6: All of them?
- 26:04Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 26:05Speaker 2: Okay, where do you draw the line?
- 26:08Speaker 1: Like?
- 26:08Speaker 2: Who was Tua better than of the top five?
- 26:10Speaker 10: All of them except Caleb Williams.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Then then we're we're what are we doing?
- 26:15Speaker 3: That's giving up?
- 26:18Speaker 2: Was fine? No better?
- 26:20Speaker 10: You're looking at tas as in what he's become on
- 26:22Speaker 10: the Miami Dolphins. Tua when he was entering in the
- 26:25Speaker 10: draft was a fantastic prospect, like one of the best
- 26:29Speaker 10: of this.
- 26:30Speaker 2: But what we know of him now he was Forget
- 26:33Speaker 2: about what prospects.
- 26:35Speaker 10: But that's a different conversation.
- 26:36Speaker 9: No, I'm just saying, like what he you know, what
- 26:40Speaker 9: I'm saying like not what he was in envisioned.
- 26:42Speaker 6: So you're saying what he became, what he became like,
- 26:46Speaker 6: but how can you say what these guys are going
- 26:48Speaker 6: to become in.
- 26:48Speaker 2: The No, you don't know.
- 26:49Speaker 9: But I'm just saying, like what you think now, like
- 26:51Speaker 9: what he Tua is? Can these guys be as good
- 26:54Speaker 9: as he was or as Tua better than these guys?
- 26:58Speaker 10: I think that all three of the eyes that we
- 27:00Speaker 10: talked about at the top have the potential to be
- 27:02Speaker 10: better than t in the NFL. You know, to what
- 27:05Speaker 10: he became, you know, to had the hill injury, and that's.
- 27:07Speaker 2: That's what I want to get to.
- 27:09Speaker 6: Yeah, I personally would be thrilled if the guy they
- 27:11Speaker 6: took turns out to be to I mean, I guess
- 27:13Speaker 6: I'm on an Isoway. No, I'm I'd be very happy.
- 27:16Speaker 6: I mean, would it be a home run like best ever? No,
- 27:19Speaker 6: but I'd be very happy if he turns out to
- 27:21Speaker 6: be a league leading passer.
- 27:24Speaker 9: Can he be a league leading passer without waddle and
- 27:28Speaker 9: hill and all that?
- 27:29Speaker 6: You know, I don't know who. I've never seen him
- 27:32Speaker 6: play with it.
- 27:32Speaker 2: He did see him play without and he.
- 27:34Speaker 6: Was really good from the day he's he's one game
- 27:37Speaker 6: since he's been in the league. I don't know, but
- 27:41Speaker 6: you want me to look it up for you.
- 27:42Speaker 3: We haven't beaten him yet, Well we haven't.
- 27:44Speaker 6: Well, he won games, that doesn't mean that he was
- 27:46Speaker 6: the reason that they won. Yeah, I mean, obviously when
- 27:48Speaker 6: the day, he's better today than the day he first
- 27:51Speaker 6: threw a pass. Agreed, just like Joe Burrow is better
- 27:54Speaker 6: today than when he first came in the lake. But
- 27:57Speaker 6: I saw Joe Burrow play without Jamar Chase. He was good.
- 28:02Speaker 9: Yeah, because Tua went what but he was drafted, he
- 28:06Speaker 9: was fifth, fifth overall, fifth overall, but in terms of quarterbacks, second,
- 28:10Speaker 9: he was the second quarterback.
- 28:11Speaker 10: If he doesn't but if he doesn't get hurt, he
- 28:14Speaker 10: doesn't have the h probably would. I mean he was
- 28:19Speaker 10: going into that season for sure, and then he got hurt.
- 28:21Speaker 2: So that's fair.
- 28:22Speaker 6: Yeah. Now where I would say, and I agree with
- 28:25Speaker 6: everything you evn't said about the prospect thing. The thing
- 28:29Speaker 6: that was the game changer for him is I thought
- 28:31Speaker 6: he was a generational talent with everything. Clearly he's either
- 28:38Speaker 6: a lost some mobility in athleticism or be been told
- 28:42Speaker 6: you can't play like that at this level. Yeah, because
- 28:45Speaker 6: now he's just really a pocket passer with some mobility.
- 28:49Speaker 10: But not much when he was in his peak Alabama
- 28:52Speaker 10: years to it could move like a scrambling I just.
- 28:56Speaker 9: Get worried, with the exception of Williams, that were overrating
- 28:59Speaker 9: these quarterbacks this year.
- 29:02Speaker 3: I mean, that's fair. There's always a risk, and I mean,
- 29:04Speaker 3: and that's like, let's face it, one or two of
- 29:06Speaker 3: these guys will end up actually being good NFL quarterbacks, right,
- 29:09Speaker 3: that's just the numbers of it. But I think the
- 29:11Speaker 3: point I've just gotten to now is that may has
- 29:13Speaker 3: kind of all the pieces. You know, he's not perfect,
- 29:15Speaker 3: but he's the one that, you know, outside of Kayleb Williams,
- 29:19Speaker 3: that's the only one I really like. Cove it. The
- 29:20Speaker 3: other ones, I'll take it if you give I mean,
- 29:23Speaker 3: J J. McCarthy, I'll take it if you give them
- 29:24Speaker 3: to me. Jayde Down's take it if you give it
- 29:26Speaker 3: to me. But after that, it just gets it gets dicey.
- 29:29Speaker 3: And I'd rather use an early second round pick on
- 29:31Speaker 3: a guy that, like one of these receivers who it's like, geez,
- 29:34Speaker 3: this is going to be an impact player immediately, and
- 29:36Speaker 3: you know, other than while we're rolling dice on Bonix.
- 29:39Speaker 3: We'll see how it goes. But you know, might be.
- 29:42Speaker 6: Cop back to Freddy's thing when we were talking about
- 29:44Speaker 6: Kayleb Williams with Chicago and what were you doing? The
- 29:46Speaker 6: reason why, personally, I wouldn't even entertain it if I
- 29:49Speaker 6: were Chicago's because if I help ent on taking a quarterback,
- 29:53Speaker 6: I want my pick of the litter, and if it's
- 29:56Speaker 6: you know, if I'm going to trade down, you can't
- 30:01Speaker 6: tell me that you're trading down because you're pulling like
- 30:04Speaker 6: a Celtics, which is like the only example I can
- 30:06Speaker 6: even think of that with this kind of mentality was
- 30:10Speaker 6: working with Jason Tatum and they nailed it. They liked
- 30:15Speaker 6: Tatum the best in that draft, and they were able
- 30:17Speaker 6: to finagle their way into more assets while still getting
- 30:21Speaker 6: the guy they thought was far and away the best
- 30:23Speaker 6: player in the draft. They were and they were right,
- 30:26Speaker 6: Like that doesn't happen very often. No, you know, like
- 30:30Speaker 6: the idea of Chicago saying no, no, no, I know, I
- 30:35Speaker 6: have the number one overall pick, but instead of taking
- 30:38Speaker 6: Caleb Williams, I'm going to take Drake may Well. Then
- 30:41Speaker 6: just take Drake may Like, why are you going to
- 30:43Speaker 6: roll the dice that the guy that you really like
- 30:46Speaker 6: is going to be available? When you want to take them.
- 30:49Speaker 6: And I would say the same thing to a much different,
- 30:51Speaker 6: much broader extent to what you're talking about, Mike with
- 30:54Speaker 6: the So if you're at three and you don't love
- 30:57Speaker 6: the guy that's available, and you end up taking Joe
- 31:00Speaker 6: Walt or Harrison or trading down whatever, I am now
- 31:05Speaker 6: no longer really interested in a quarterback. I will take
- 31:08Speaker 6: one if it makes sense, and I think I might.
- 31:11Speaker 6: But now I'm like, if I want a quarterback in
- 31:14Speaker 6: this draft, yeah, and I don't think the guy I'm
- 31:17Speaker 6: going to take it eleven is better than the guy
- 31:19Speaker 6: that I had a chance to take at three, Like
- 31:22Speaker 6: why would I want to go down and roll the dice? Like, so,
- 31:26Speaker 6: I'm not sure I can't. In other words, I can't
- 31:29Speaker 6: be sure that Panics is available at eleven. And if
- 31:32Speaker 6: I like Panics better than May, why not just take
- 31:34Speaker 6: take Panics?
- 31:35Speaker 2: Right?
- 31:36Speaker 10: Because I just think that I disagreed, just because I
- 31:39Speaker 10: think you need to keep the pipeline stocked at that position.
- 31:42Speaker 10: I think it's important to have young talent.
- 31:44Speaker 6: That I'm not saying don't take a quarterback. I'm saying
- 31:46Speaker 6: I'm not taking a quarterback with the thought of I
- 31:49Speaker 6: have my quarterback now, and we're going to go back
- 31:51Speaker 6: to what you said about twenty minutes ago about Houston,
- 31:53Speaker 6: and they didn't do it that way right away. Yeah, Well, first,
- 31:56Speaker 6: when Casarrio first got there, they still had Deshaun Watson.
- 32:00Speaker 6: That's when everything started to bubble. And then Watson said
- 32:03Speaker 6: I'm out, I'm not staying, and they kind of called
- 32:06Speaker 6: his bluff if you remember. And what they did was
- 32:08Speaker 6: they middled it. They said, yeah, he might be, he
- 32:10Speaker 6: might not stay. But what did they do same draft
- 32:13Speaker 6: as the Mac Jones drafts. What did they do Mill?
- 32:16Speaker 6: That's my point in the second round, like you can
- 32:19Speaker 6: do that, but you don't have your guy. You don't,
- 32:22Speaker 6: It is my point, you don't unless he's Jalen Hurts,
- 32:25Speaker 6: like you know, and like that's the thing is like,
- 32:27Speaker 6: but you knew it was no. A lot of people
- 32:29Speaker 6: thought that Davis Mills could be the guy, just that
- 32:32Speaker 6: they talked themselves into it. People kicked themselves that they
- 32:34Speaker 6: didn't take them at fifteen.
- 32:36Speaker 10: I just think that instead of Mac, if you have
- 32:38Speaker 10: a guy like a Knicks, like a Penix that has
- 32:42Speaker 10: the potential to maybe be that in the league, I
- 32:45Speaker 10: think it's too important of a position to just punt
- 32:47Speaker 10: on it in the draft, and I do not.
- 32:49Speaker 6: Want to punt on it. I'm just saying, if if
- 32:51Speaker 6: I'm gonna wait, if I want the quarterback to be
- 32:54Speaker 6: my quarterback of the future, I'm taking the best one
- 32:56Speaker 6: I can get the best one on my board. And
- 32:58Speaker 6: I fact, like I said, if I think think Penis
- 33:00Speaker 6: is better than May, I'm taking them that. I don't
- 33:02Speaker 6: think they think that.
- 33:03Speaker 10: I would just say that. You also have to look
- 33:05Speaker 10: ahead to twenty twenty five, and I think totally agree
- 33:08Speaker 10: with that too. In twenty twenty five, Bo Knicks and
- 33:11Speaker 10: Michael Pennix might be the two best quarterbacks in the
- 33:14Speaker 10: class in twenty twenty five. So I think the good
- 33:18Speaker 10: thing about this class with the quarterbacks is that it
- 33:20Speaker 10: is a good quarterback class. So bow Knicks in a
- 33:23Speaker 10: normal year probably gets propped up into that like Kenny
- 33:26Speaker 10: Pickett mac Jones range. But this year there's so many
- 33:29Speaker 10: good quarterbacks at the top that he's gonna go maybe
- 33:33Speaker 10: late first round, early second round. So look at twenty
- 33:36Speaker 10: twenty five and say, do we think bow Knicks is
- 33:39Speaker 10: going to be better than Shador Sanders, than Quinn Yours
- 33:42Speaker 10: or at least on the same playing field. I just
- 33:45Speaker 10: think that it's a too important a position to go
- 33:47Speaker 10: into next year with your quarterback room. As Jacobe were
- 33:50Speaker 10: said in Bailey's Abbey, there's not enough potential in that room.
- 33:53Speaker 6: I don't think it will, but I don't look at
- 33:55Speaker 6: it as really all that different. I think it'll be
- 33:57Speaker 6: those probably those two guys, and you know, one of
- 34:01Speaker 6: these second third round picks. Yeah, like Nil Milton.
- 34:04Speaker 10: See, like Joe Milton to me is now you're you're
- 34:07Speaker 10: going too far. You're too far gone.
- 34:08Speaker 6: I hope it's okay, let's use Rattler instead of instead
- 34:14Speaker 6: of Joe Miltons. I. You know, you have three quarterbacks
- 34:19Speaker 6: on your roster. You don't have a quarterback on your
- 34:20Speaker 6: roster if you ask me.
- 34:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 34:23Speaker 6: But I totally agree with Evans' mentality. I know you
- 34:27Speaker 6: do too, Mike, because we talk about it all the time.
- 34:29Speaker 6: You take a quarterback, yeah, because you don't know when
- 34:32Speaker 6: the next Wilson Prescott, you know it happens. I mean
- 34:37Speaker 6: there are four or five guys out there that were
- 34:39Speaker 6: taken after the first round that are good, so maybe
- 34:42Speaker 6: you can get the next one. Yeah, but I'm gonna
- 34:45Speaker 6: look at my quarterback room. The same way is you know, like,
- 34:48Speaker 6: I'm gonna look at it as until proved, otherwise I
- 34:51Speaker 6: don't have that.
- 34:52Speaker 9: Hey, Patriots fans, if you want to see Toyota's best offers,
- 34:55Speaker 9: including those not seen on TV, go to buy a
- 34:58Speaker 9: Toyota dot com. It's toyot as official website for deals
- 35:01Speaker 9: from the official vehicle of the New England Patriots, Toyota.
- 35:05Speaker 9: Let's go take a draft pick and you know what
- 35:09Speaker 9: you should. Also, this is a inter or intra department
- 35:13Speaker 9: read this is internal. I just want to read this
- 35:16Speaker 9: for everybody. If you want to support the home team,
- 35:21Speaker 9: join New England's event staff here at Jellette Stadium. Seasonal
- 35:25Speaker 9: positions are available in food and beverage, parking and security.

- 35:38Speaker 9: the spot offer to join the team. So we're having
- 35:42Speaker 9: our own little combine this month for events staff.
- 35:46Speaker 6: You are trying to tell me something, No, but if
- 35:48Speaker 6: you're looking at me a lot when you say that,
- 35:50Speaker 6: if I.
- 35:51Speaker 9: Could see you doing parking, those guys are crossing. Yeah,
- 35:54Speaker 9: get out of here. You don't have the right tag.
- 35:57Speaker 6: Don't give the parking your attendants doing the job to sign.
- 36:01Speaker 2: It's a tough job.
- 36:02Speaker 6: Yeah, have to remind myself that doing their job.
- 36:04Speaker 9: But if you if you're in the area and you're
- 36:06Speaker 9: looking for some extra coinage during the season, Yeah, join
- 36:11Speaker 9: the team every every Wednesday in April eight thirty to
- 36:15Speaker 9: six thirty here.
- 36:16Speaker 2: At Jillette Stadium.
- 36:17Speaker 6: All right, thanks, so all right.
- 36:20Speaker 2: Let's keep let's keep going here. Uh, let's get.
- 36:24Speaker 6: The listeners involved, Reddy.
- 36:25Speaker 9: Yeah, a related uh subject, but a little different. Bill
- 36:28Speaker 9: and Vista, California writes. In last Thursday, the crew mentioned
- 36:31Speaker 9: coach Prime and how he has a short list of
- 36:34Speaker 9: teams for Shador and Hunter to not go to. The
- 36:37Speaker 9: crew talked about how nil is changing the landscape and
- 36:41Speaker 9: giving prospects more power over where they could potentially end
- 36:44Speaker 9: up being drafted. Would that being the case, would it
- 36:47Speaker 9: make more sense to now restructure how the draft works.
- 36:50Speaker 9: Maybe change to a lottery system with picks not being
- 36:53Speaker 9: finalized until the morning of the draft would definitely make
- 36:57Speaker 9: for more entertaining event chaos and all.
- 36:59Speaker 3: Wow, well that's your thing, Fred, You and even up
- 37:02Speaker 3: for a draft lottery for a while, right, I say,
- 37:04Speaker 3: I say the whole thing though, one to thirty two
- 37:06Speaker 3: or just like top ten.
- 37:07Speaker 2: No, just the first round, just first round.
- 37:09Speaker 9: Complete new lottery. Everybody's team is in the hat. First
- 37:14Speaker 9: round is you know, complete random, and then second through
- 37:19Speaker 9: seventh you go back to worse.
- 37:21Speaker 2: You know, worse is first.
- 37:23Speaker 6: But that's that's been Freddy's sort of dream for a while.
- 37:27Speaker 6: That's that's Freddy's baby, the draft lottery. Yep, how does
- 37:30Speaker 6: that impact that should do a Sanders situation?
- 37:34Speaker 1: You know?
- 37:35Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, that's not sure. The situation that the
- 37:37Speaker 6: nil Yeah they're talking about. Sanders has talked about his
- 37:42Speaker 6: players are going to have a list of teams that
- 37:44Speaker 6: you know, no fly zones, don't draft me because I'm
- 37:46Speaker 6: not signing with you. Right, So what's the difference if
- 37:49Speaker 6: you have a lottery?
- 37:50Speaker 2: I know that that doesn't. That doesn't.
- 37:52Speaker 9: But let's talk about the whole Like he says, nil
- 37:55Speaker 9: has changed. I get it now, people like your door
- 37:57Speaker 9: have money going into the NFL.
- 38:00Speaker 2: That whereas in the past.
- 38:02Speaker 6: Wait in other words, they can afford to sit out.
- 38:04Speaker 9: They can afford to sit out and wait until next
- 38:07Speaker 9: year's draft. I guess is that what he means.
- 38:09Speaker 10: Yeah, it's it's completely changed the landscape for the draft.
- 38:12Speaker 10: The draft is even it's less deep as a result
- 38:16Speaker 10: of n AL because less underclassmen are declaring because they
- 38:20Speaker 10: can just go back to school. There's the transfer portal
- 38:23Speaker 10: and they can just make money that way and then
- 38:25Speaker 10: help their draft stock in the process to go even
- 38:27Speaker 10: earlier the following year.
- 38:29Speaker 9: Uh the but at some point they run out of eligibility, right.
- 38:33Speaker 10: Yes, But I I just think NIL is a disaster,
- 38:36Speaker 10: honestly for college football.
- 38:38Speaker 2: You wouldn't I think that.
- 38:39Speaker 6: I think Nick Saban.
- 38:40Speaker 10: Got a lot of heat for what he said because
- 38:42Speaker 10: he's an old head and oh you know, it's he's
- 38:45Speaker 10: mad that it's not the way that it used to
- 38:46Speaker 10: be where he could just like build these super teams.
- 38:49Speaker 10: I think that it's it's bad for the sport that
- 38:52Speaker 10: these kids can just jump ship and go to a
- 38:55Speaker 10: different place in the transfer portal.
- 38:57Speaker 2: Well, that's different that those are two different things.
- 39:02Speaker 10: But it all goes hand in hand because they are
- 39:04Speaker 10: going in a lot of times to the highest bidder
- 39:07Speaker 10: that's giving them the most NIL money, and that's why
- 39:09Speaker 10: they're going into the portals. Because they're at a smaller school,
- 39:12Speaker 10: and now they're.
- 39:13Speaker 9: Exactly But the transfer portal could exist without ni L's right, Yeah, well,
- 39:18Speaker 9: but I like the transfer portal. I think to give
- 39:20Speaker 9: these players options, like why do you like? You get
- 39:23Speaker 9: on a team, they give you the boat and you
- 39:25Speaker 9: don't get to play. I want to play.
- 39:27Speaker 2: I want to go to a team where I can play.
- 39:28Speaker 10: But these aren't people that aren't playing.
- 39:30Speaker 6: These are transfer A portal isn't about giving teams up
- 39:34Speaker 6: kids opportunity to play somewhere with they're not playing.
- 39:36Speaker 2: Some of them are.
- 39:36Speaker 6: The vast majority of them are doing exactly what evan
- 39:39Speaker 6: since to the highest.
- 39:40Speaker 10: This is turning into au well where like now and
- 39:43Speaker 10: now every single draft product, no Ni L.
- 39:48Speaker 6: I think portal wouldn't be as prevalent as it is.
- 39:50Speaker 6: It still be big, but it wouldn't be anywhere near
- 39:53Speaker 6: like it is.
- 39:53Speaker 11: Not.
- 39:53Speaker 6: No, it is if every one of these teams loses
- 39:55Speaker 6: the vast majority.
- 39:56Speaker 2: Of this, I just don't want to luve.
- 39:58Speaker 9: I know they're related, but I don't want to lumpy
- 40:01Speaker 9: Nils with transfer portals because I think transfer portal on
- 40:04Speaker 9: its own, I think is a good thing.
- 40:06Speaker 6: I think it's horrible. I think it's completely ruined because
- 40:09Speaker 6: of nil. No, because of the prevalence of transferring. But
- 40:13Speaker 6: you should have there should be like a consequence.
- 40:16Speaker 9: I think, let the kid go to a place where
- 40:20Speaker 9: he wants to go.
- 40:21Speaker 6: Correct case by case basis. So the five people that
- 40:25Speaker 6: do that I have no problem with. When you're losing
- 40:28Speaker 6: ten of your twenty two starters to the portal, but
- 40:33Speaker 6: that but that's a problem.
- 40:34Speaker 2: But right now that's happening because of nil.
- 40:36Speaker 6: But what I'm telling you is it's happened in basketball
- 40:40Speaker 6: for a while. Yeah, well they had nothing to do
- 40:42Speaker 6: with nil. Kid's playing like forty minutes a game for
- 40:46Speaker 6: one power five school, just transfer to another power five
- 40:49Speaker 6: school like all the time. But why all different reasons?
- 40:54Speaker 3: What happened Now?
- 40:55Speaker 6: I guess that exist anymore. It's now above board and
- 40:58Speaker 6: everybody knows it's money. My guess is it's always been
- 41:01Speaker 6: about money.
- 41:02Speaker 2: Wow, yeah, under the table.
- 41:03Speaker 10: I just think that what it What Saban said I
- 41:06Speaker 10: thought was so spot on. And the fact that all
- 41:09Speaker 10: these kids just go to Nick Saban now before he
- 41:11Speaker 10: retired obviously, and say what are you gonna do for me?
- 41:14Speaker 10: Like why should I stay at Alabama? Like what are
- 41:16Speaker 10: you going to pay me what a shirt? Like, are
- 41:18Speaker 10: you gonna am I gonna start next year? Are you
- 41:19Speaker 10: gonna promise me that? Because you know us C, you know,
- 41:22Speaker 10: Lincoln Riley just called and he said he's gonna give
- 41:24Speaker 10: me a mill and I'm gonna start, and like that,
- 41:26Speaker 10: that's not what it's all about, you know. And and
- 41:28Speaker 10: then you also get into this problem where these guys
- 41:31Speaker 10: are transferring and it's au they're just like creating these
- 41:34Speaker 10: super teams you know where all and it's just so
- 41:37Speaker 10: I don't think that's good for the transfer.
- 41:40Speaker 9: You just said that before In the old system, Nick
- 41:42Speaker 9: Saban was creating the super team.
- 41:44Speaker 10: But he had to at least recruit the players to
- 41:46Speaker 10: the team and develop them as freshmen up until the point.
- 41:49Speaker 2: Where they were And how was that them?
- 41:51Speaker 6: Maybe it was money, But I'm just see my guest,
- 41:55Speaker 6: like I just think it's I go a little bit halfway,
- 41:58Speaker 6: not as far as Evan and certainly not like not
- 42:02Speaker 6: whatever you are, Let them go wherever they want. Let
- 42:05Speaker 6: there be anarchy everywhere. I'm a little bit in the middle. Yeah, sure,
- 42:09Speaker 6: transfer like once these guys can transfer like indiscriminately. These
- 42:13Speaker 6: guys that play for three and four teams in four years,
- 42:15Speaker 6: Like there's a problem with that. They don't ever have
- 42:17Speaker 6: to there's no repercussions, no ramifications at all. They just
- 42:20Speaker 6: go wherever they want. But it is to me, it's
- 42:24Speaker 6: about money. No one like begrudges the kid's ability. All Right.
- 42:29Speaker 6: I got recruited by Florida State as a quarterback and
- 42:33Speaker 6: I go through and this guy who's the same class
- 42:35Speaker 6: as me beat me out. I don't think anybody would
- 42:38Speaker 6: say that kid should have to stay there and carry
- 42:40Speaker 6: the clipboard for four year hours. No one would say that.
- 42:43Speaker 6: I certainly wouldn't say that. But the problem is, like
- 42:48Speaker 6: what Evan's talking about, it's like they don't need the
- 42:51Speaker 6: coach to open up doors for them anymore because they're
- 42:53Speaker 6: making so much. So it's getting worse. So it's the
- 42:57Speaker 6: combination of the two that is getting well.
- 42:59Speaker 2: I do believe when it comes to the n I L.
- 43:01Speaker 2: They're gonna have to do something about that.
- 43:02Speaker 10: They're gonna have to police it a little bit more.
- 43:04Speaker 10: That's all I'm saying, because it basically is like their
- 43:06Speaker 10: free agents.
- 43:06Speaker 6: Every single they're kind of they're kind of like giving up,
- 43:09Speaker 6: like they they lost another lawsuit and they said, but
- 43:12Speaker 6: we're not gonna fight this anymore.
- 43:14Speaker 10: I'm not asking them to don't know what they're gonna
- 43:15Speaker 10: ban it or something like that. I'm just asking there
- 43:18Speaker 10: needs to be.
- 43:21Speaker 6: Needs to be struct Why can't they get paid like
- 43:23Speaker 6: a uniform number like around the country, like so there's
- 43:28Speaker 6: not any growth, right?
- 43:30Speaker 10: Or what about like contracts? Like what if you're gonna
- 43:32Speaker 10: if you're gonna let them they.
- 43:33Speaker 6: Sign contracts, But but.
- 43:36Speaker 10: Are they signing contracts with the school? Some of them do,
- 43:39Speaker 10: like you're gonna be here for two years, Like and
- 43:41Speaker 10: I signed you know.
- 43:42Speaker 6: Now everybody says, like my lawyer guys and my friends
- 43:45Speaker 6: and stuff that know a lot more about the business
- 43:48Speaker 6: world than I do. They say, yeah, a lot of
- 43:50Speaker 6: them signed contracts, but they you know, they just buy
- 43:53Speaker 6: themselves out of them and they just go.
- 43:56Speaker 9: It's it's interesting there when it comes to the NDA
- 44:00Speaker 9: have to do something, it is getting out.
- 44:02Speaker 6: So I'm not saying that they should never be allowed
- 44:04Speaker 6: to transfer for it. I just think that the transferring
- 44:07Speaker 6: was already out of control before NIL. Now it's uh
- 44:10Speaker 6: now the NIL has made it completely.
- 44:12Speaker 3: But when did they get rid of having to sit
- 44:14Speaker 3: out a year with transfer during COVID, so they just
- 44:16Speaker 3: abolish that, or.
- 44:18Speaker 6: I think it might have been a little before that,
- 44:19Speaker 6: But yeah, a lot of times.
- 44:21Speaker 2: See I think that's unfair too.
- 44:23Speaker 6: No, I don't.
- 44:23Speaker 10: I don't think you have to you should have to
- 44:25Speaker 10: sit out a year. My whole thing is just again
- 44:28Speaker 10: is that I just feel like it sets a bad
- 44:29Speaker 10: precedent of like, we're just going to keep jumping ship
- 44:32Speaker 10: until I find this the most money with the great
- 44:35Speaker 10: situation and the superstar receivers around me. And then we
- 44:39Speaker 10: got into this situation where we're sitting here talking about
- 44:41Speaker 10: the draft and Jaden Daniels is playing on an all
- 44:43Speaker 10: Star team and Michael Pennix is playing on an All
- 44:45Speaker 10: Star team, and you know, bo Nicks was horrible at Auburn,
- 44:49Speaker 10: like not even a draftable prospect, and he goes to
- 44:51Speaker 10: Oregon and now he's a first round pick and it's.
- 44:53Speaker 6: Like, good for him.
- 44:54Speaker 10: You know he's been they've been in college for six years.
- 44:56Speaker 10: They're all twenty five years old.
- 44:58Speaker 6: That's that's a COVID problem. I'm not going to blame
- 45:01Speaker 6: the NCAA on because I guess ultimately I am blaming
- 45:04Speaker 6: them because I thought it was a foolish decision that
- 45:07Speaker 6: they gave everybody.
- 45:08Speaker 3: Here we are twenty twenty four and there's still guys.
- 45:10Speaker 6: You know, it really only affected the spring sports one year,
- 45:13Speaker 6: and they allowed everybody to have an extra year of eligibility,
- 45:16Speaker 6: and it really destroyed recruiting classes. And it's gonna be
- 45:19Speaker 6: in charge.
- 45:20Speaker 9: I wonder what Charlie Baker is gonna do, because you know,
- 45:23Speaker 9: he's now the head of the n c DOUBLEA.
- 45:24Speaker 6: I like him a lot, and I don't think that
- 45:26Speaker 6: he's an empty suit. I just don't think. I think
- 45:28Speaker 6: he's powerless. I don't think he's going to be able
- 45:30Speaker 6: to do anything.
- 45:30Speaker 3: Yeah, sew the hockey transfers to the same thing. I mean,
- 45:33Speaker 3: it's just entered the portal as soon as the NCAA
- 45:35Speaker 3: tournament is.
- 45:35Speaker 10: There's guys, there's guys in the tournament that are already
- 45:38Speaker 10: in the portal that their teams are still alive in
- 45:41Speaker 10: the NCAA tournament and they're already in the portal.
- 45:45Speaker 9: Let's see Ford and Savannah, Georgia says, please know the
- 45:50Speaker 9: bow knicks. Yeah, we just traded him to Jacksonville for
- 45:54Speaker 9: a six round pick. Maxed out college quarterback who bolstered
- 45:57Speaker 9: accuracy stats and won't be the reason that you in
- 46:00Speaker 9: on Sundays. The strange knock I've heard on Penix, which
- 46:03Speaker 9: I don't understand, is he's a great choice if you
- 46:06Speaker 9: want to sit back and watch someone throw the ball. Yes,
- 46:09Speaker 9: that is exactly what I want to do, sit back
- 46:11Speaker 9: and watch my quarterback throw the ball beautifully.
- 46:13Speaker 10: I don't know understand that piece, but I understand the
- 46:16Speaker 10: Bonnicks piece. Like if you think that Bonnicks, you know,
- 46:19Speaker 10: I always people always describe as it's boring, Like watching
- 46:22Speaker 10: him play is boring because you know, he just kind
- 46:25Speaker 10: of does what he's asked to do and there's no
- 46:27Speaker 10: extra flavor to it. There's no you know, Drake may
- 46:30Speaker 10: running around off platform like that. He's just gonna make
- 46:33Speaker 10: the throws that are available to him.
- 46:34Speaker 6: But that's that Penix too, Like Penix is just gonna
- 46:37Speaker 6: sit in the pocket and yeah he's gonna Now against Texas,
- 46:42Speaker 6: he's gonna throw it down the field. Yeah, and you
- 46:45Speaker 6: ask him, you do what Michigan did to him, and
- 46:48Speaker 6: I think you're rendered him powerless.
- 46:50Speaker 10: Yeah, Penix definitely has the down the deep ball and
- 46:53Speaker 10: the big time throws down the field. Bone Nicks, that's
- 46:55Speaker 10: not his game, Bonix is like accuracy within fifteen yards
- 46:58Speaker 10: of the line of scrimmage, get it out on time,
- 47:01Speaker 10: to be able to like.
- 47:02Speaker 6: You know that that's some of my worry with McCarthy
- 47:04Speaker 6: and and I know that Evan said he was less
- 47:07Speaker 6: concerned about the unknown. I am more concerned with that
- 47:10Speaker 6: part of it because on the rare occasions when he's
- 47:13Speaker 6: sort of been pressed, I don't think he's looked all
- 47:15Speaker 6: that good. And I think of like the TCU game
- 47:18Speaker 6: in the playoffs two years ago, we threw a couple
- 47:20Speaker 6: of pick sixes. And I think of the Alabama game
- 47:23Speaker 6: that he won this year. It was, by the way,
- 47:26Speaker 6: a very average Alabama team for their standards. Yeah, he
- 47:29Speaker 6: comes out and throws a pick on the first play
- 47:31Speaker 6: of the game that could overturned by a blade of grass.
- 47:34Speaker 6: And I just didn't think he looked really good in
- 47:36Speaker 6: that game. Now, did he make plays in that game
- 47:38Speaker 6: that helped him win? Yeah, he did. He rebound, he
- 47:41Speaker 6: rebounded from that bad start. I thought made a couple
- 47:44Speaker 6: of plays. I didn't think he was great in the
- 47:46Speaker 6: Washington game. I thought the Washington game, the way the
- 47:49Speaker 6: Washington the way the Michigan defense played Panix that game
- 47:53Speaker 6: I thought should have been a blowout. I thought that
- 47:56Speaker 6: a good quarterback would have bradied that game and put it.
- 47:59Speaker 6: It would have been over in the middle of the
- 48:00Speaker 6: second quarter. Now I'm not don't make that take that literally,
- 48:06Speaker 6: not comparing JJ McCarthy saying he should be like Brady.
- 48:08Speaker 6: I thought Berks did. So I'm saying that kind of mentality,
- 48:12Speaker 6: like we're dominating this game. We're far superior on the field.
- 48:16Speaker 6: We should have a three touchdown lead right now. And
- 48:18Speaker 6: they didn't like that game kind of stayed closer than
- 48:21Speaker 6: it should have been, I thought throughout, and it was,
- 48:23Speaker 6: in my opinion, because the offense couldn't make plays.
- 48:26Speaker 10: Yeah, the interception on the first play against Alabama, I
- 48:29Speaker 10: have not been able to get that out of my head.
- 48:31Speaker 10: It was the first game I watched of JJ McCarthy
- 48:33Speaker 10: and is the first play I watched of him, and
- 48:35Speaker 10: he just throws it god awful interception, Like.
- 48:39Speaker 6: Just that was a bad play.
- 48:40Speaker 2: I don't even know what he was looking at me.
- 48:42Speaker 10: I'm killing you that too, and I just since then,
- 48:45Speaker 10: I just that's the type of guy that you're signing
- 48:48Speaker 10: up for, is a you know, biggest game of his life.
- 48:50Speaker 10: And he's throws into a team meeting and it's just intercepted, Like, yeah,
- 48:54Speaker 10: first played.
- 48:54Speaker 6: That TCU game in the playoffs. I think they ended
- 48:56Speaker 6: up losing that game something like fifty one to forty five.
- 48:59Speaker 6: So it's not like he like tucktail and hid because
- 49:03Speaker 6: he played a bad game. He he bounced back, but
- 49:06Speaker 6: I think you know the reason they lost was him ultimately.
- 49:10Speaker 2: Uh spiking Fresno.
- 49:11Speaker 9: Paul and Evan had a little dust up over Jacoby
- 49:13Speaker 9: Brissett a few shows back, so I came up with
- 49:16Speaker 9: several Brissett related wagers they could go head to head on.
- 49:20Speaker 9: Each has mildly humiliating terms for the loser. In all cases,
- 49:24Speaker 9: the closest guess without going over wins. If you go over,
- 49:27Speaker 9: you both lose one. How many games will Brissett start
- 49:30Speaker 9: this season? Loser has to eat a subway six inch
- 49:33Speaker 9: engineered by the pew listeners live on the show.
- 49:36Speaker 6: Of course, we're not allowed to do this, so I
- 49:39Speaker 6: can't partake.
- 49:40Speaker 9: Sure you're partaking in that you could, So how many
- 49:44Speaker 9: games will Brissett start this season?
- 49:45Speaker 6: I have no idea. Okay, I'm say twelve.
- 49:49Speaker 3: You're just not gonna play twelve I was gonna say five.
- 49:52Speaker 6: I'm gonna think twelve. Why we don't even know where
- 49:55Speaker 6: the bye week is. See, that's that's part of it though,
- 49:58Speaker 6: I need to know. I say four, you gotta take
- 50:03Speaker 6: him out of the bye week? Yeah, by week's like
- 50:07Speaker 6: week seven spot you guys, I.
- 50:11Speaker 3: Know, Well it's a weird point like because it's I
- 50:14Speaker 3: see what Paul is saying, like you're really not playing
- 50:16Speaker 3: the You're going to get Drake.
- 50:17Speaker 6: And I don't think Drake is going to be ready?
- 50:20Speaker 9: H what will brissets QB rating B In the first
- 50:23Speaker 9: game he plays this season, loser has to go commando
- 50:26Speaker 9: for the Tuesday show following in the game, out there
- 50:29Speaker 9: swinging free like.
- 50:30Speaker 6: I'd rather lose that in the first one. One wants that,
- 50:33Speaker 6: No one wants it.
- 50:34Speaker 3: But QB rating for that first game he plays, Jesus
- 50:38Speaker 3: eighty nine point six one hundred.
- 50:43Speaker 6: We need like over unders.
- 50:44Speaker 9: At least you know how many game winning drives will
- 50:47Speaker 9: beset have By the mid season, mark loser has to
- 50:50Speaker 9: sing the national anthem live in the show standing with
- 50:53Speaker 9: hand on hard one.
- 50:56Speaker 6: I'll say none one as well.
- 51:01Speaker 2: By mid season I'd say none.
- 51:04Speaker 6: Fred laughs, What happened to you. You don't how optimistic
- 51:08Speaker 6: he used to be none thirteen, So now he's gonna
- 51:11Speaker 6: spin it. They're not gonna need any game winning drives.
- 51:14Speaker 2: They're gonna blow people out.
- 51:17Speaker 9: Okay, let's see Ryan Rights in Love the Show. He
- 51:21Speaker 9: says people give Chicago a hard time for not picking
- 51:24Speaker 9: Mahomes since he's won two Super Bowls. But I'm not
- 51:26Speaker 9: convinced if Mahomes went to the Bears he would.
- 51:29Speaker 2: Be who he is today.
- 51:31Speaker 9: I think he would be a lot worse case. Has
- 51:34Speaker 9: a good roster and fantastic coach, so it's set him
- 51:37Speaker 9: up for success. Question is, besides Tom, what players do
- 51:41Speaker 9: you think would have had a Hall of Fame career
- 51:43Speaker 9: if they were not in such a positive situation roster, coaching, organization.
- 51:49Speaker 6: Patrick Mahomes, Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady. Yeah, like
- 51:58Speaker 6: Hall of Fame careers regardless of whether went you know,
- 52:01Speaker 6: probably Ben Roethlisberger, Phil Rivers.
- 52:03Speaker 10: Mahomes is an interesting case though, because he did see
- 52:06Speaker 10: that sit out the year.
- 52:07Speaker 6: I'm not saying he wasn't helped by it.
- 52:09Speaker 10: He was more of a developmental guy. Like obviously I'm
- 52:13Speaker 10: not going on all the way, but Brady was six
- 52:14Speaker 10: round picks. I'm not saying, you know, but in terms
- 52:16Speaker 10: of the guy's ever drafted that early, I can see
- 52:19Speaker 10: what he's saying that if he goes to Chicago, their
- 52:22Speaker 10: weapons are a mess. They're coaching staff's a mess.
- 52:24Speaker 6: Their weapons anymore a mess than the Kansas cities are
- 52:26Speaker 6: right now. Yeah, but he's everybody like Dj Moore.
- 52:29Speaker 10: But he's already at the peak of his powers now,
- 52:31Speaker 10: Like if you had thrown him into that as a
- 52:33Speaker 10: rookie and he doesn't already have the knowledge in the
- 52:35Speaker 10: grasp of the game that he has now.
- 52:37Speaker 6: I think a lot of Andy Reid, So I think
- 52:39Speaker 6: that absolutely helped him immensely.
- 52:41Speaker 10: I can't imagine the behind the scenes of his rookie
- 52:44Speaker 10: year Andy Reid, after practice, the footwork, drills, all the
- 52:47Speaker 10: little details.
- 52:48Speaker 6: I also think he may have inherited the best incumbent
- 52:51Speaker 6: quarterback for that role that he possibly could have had. Yeah, Alex,
- 52:55Speaker 6: I think that's what they hope.
- 52:56Speaker 3: Jacoby Weer said, is Yeah, nice guy Rashid Rice there, Paul,
- 53:00Speaker 3: what do you got to say about that one?
- 53:02Speaker 6: I think that establishes that I was right, because that's
- 53:05Speaker 6: what happens with those kinds of players when they fast.
- 53:10Speaker 6: So has there been any updates about that? I just
- 53:12Speaker 6: I read I last thing he was cooperating with police.
- 53:15Speaker 6: But like, was he there or not?
- 53:16Speaker 3: I don't know. It sounds like they have him on camera,
- 53:18Speaker 3: like walking away.
- 53:19Speaker 2: Yeah, there's no doubt he was there.
- 53:22Speaker 6: I didn't see that.
- 53:23Speaker 2: Yeah, they have him on camera.
- 53:24Speaker 6: I saw a camera from about nine miles away with
- 53:26Speaker 6: like a couple of people walking away. I don't know
- 53:27Speaker 6: who they were. They I wouldn't know, she writes if
- 53:30Speaker 6: he was sitting next to it. I love him though, Yeah,
- 53:33Speaker 6: I just he looked good on tape. Sorry, didn't it
- 53:36Speaker 6: didn't mean to identify a good player on the draft,
- 53:38Speaker 6: look good on why? This is why I don't do it.
- 53:40Speaker 6: Film taper, film, just why I don't do it. The
- 53:42Speaker 6: digital YouTube pilot, I get it, I get them right,
- 53:45Speaker 6: And this is what happens.
- 53:46Speaker 3: Then called the ditch, like the digital video PA breaking
- 53:48Speaker 3: down the ditch. You're not breaking out filming.
- 53:50Speaker 10: You get that, you get that a lot. What do
- 53:52Speaker 10: you just watch YouTube highlights of these guys and then
- 53:54Speaker 10: you rank them?
- 53:55Speaker 6: Ye yep.
- 53:57Speaker 9: I think the first sentence is going to rule out
- 53:59Speaker 9: this next email. But Kyler from Connecticut says, I know
- 54:01Speaker 9: it's a long shot, but rumors around the league are
- 54:04Speaker 9: talking about the possibility of JJ McCarthy reuniting with coach
- 54:08Speaker 9: Harbaugh in LA.
- 54:10Speaker 2: Is that even a possibility?
- 54:11Speaker 10: I will say, as much as I was thinking about
- 54:14Speaker 10: this the other day, is there a chance that all
- 54:17Speaker 10: this JJ McCarthy's going second overall? All this JJ McCarthy
- 54:20Speaker 10: going third overall, who's sitting there at number five then
- 54:23Speaker 10: doesn't need a quarterback, right Jim Harbaugh? So is there
- 54:26Speaker 10: a chance that Jim Harbaugh is putting this all out
- 54:28Speaker 10: in the world so that the position player, the non
- 54:31Speaker 10: quarterback that he wants at five, is still sitting there
- 54:34Speaker 10: on a silver platter because four quarterbacks go ahead of them.
- 54:37Speaker 6: Yes, I think that that, like that smokescreen, better than
- 54:41Speaker 6: like the Patriots aren't going to the Pro day for
- 54:43Speaker 6: Michael Pennix because they want to take him at thirty four.
- 54:45Speaker 6: I want that makes perfect sense, right because now you know, oh,
- 54:49Speaker 6: Arizona's going to trade out of their pick because Minnesota
- 54:52Speaker 6: is going to trade into it, and you know, right,
- 54:53Speaker 6: and now all of a sudden jolt is just on
- 54:56Speaker 6: a silver platter the quarterbacks. Yeah, right, But I have
- 54:59Speaker 6: heard a lot about the Harbaugh thing and what they trade. Herbert,
- 55:04Speaker 6: you can go with McCarthy. I mean, I don't see
- 55:06Speaker 6: why you would do that.
- 55:06Speaker 3: Oh my god, I can't imagine. I can't imagine it.
- 55:09Speaker 6: I think it would be crazy too, Like legit crazy.
- 55:12Speaker 6: You have a guy that you know, if you're Jim
- 55:14Speaker 6: Harbaugh and you watch that guy play, you know you
- 55:16Speaker 6: can win with them, right, right, you have.
- 55:18Speaker 9: What's your what's the hole your poking, especially if you're
- 55:21Speaker 9: like a guy like Harbor like and with me coaching it, right,
- 55:24Speaker 9: he goes up to another level.
- 55:25Speaker 3: Throws the ball too good, he's too athletic.
- 55:28Speaker 6: Unless he's just so stubborn and he's just gonna say, well,
- 55:30Speaker 6: we're gonna line up two backs in the background, two
- 55:32Speaker 6: tight ends, we're gonna run. We're going to run the
- 55:35Speaker 6: football because we want to be tough on both sides.
- 55:37Speaker 9: Of the line that Eric and idaho. I was listening
- 55:40Speaker 9: to Solomon Wilcotts and his guest from the opening drive
- 55:44Speaker 9: on NFL Network driving to work this morning. They were
- 55:46Speaker 9: discussing how Drake may is basically a less athletic and
- 55:50Speaker 9: worse thrower of the ball than Daniel Jones. Obviously, these
- 55:54Speaker 9: guys have lost their minds with this opinion. But I
- 55:56Speaker 9: was wondering if you guys actually see any comparisons between
- 55:59Speaker 9: May and Jones. I just don't see how they can
- 56:01Speaker 9: come out with that conclusion.
- 56:03Speaker 6: I do, I do see similarities. I think he's more
- 56:05Speaker 6: athletic than Daniel Jones. But yeah, I think Daniel Jones
- 56:10Speaker 6: has proven that ability is not his problem. I think
- 56:14Speaker 6: he can play, he can run.
- 56:15Speaker 10: I think he's similar, can play, similar body type as
- 56:19Speaker 10: Daniel Jones. He's built a little bit like Daniel Jones.
- 56:22Speaker 10: I think Daniel Jones at Duke was was way more
- 56:25Speaker 10: conservative then then Drake. Drake May has got way more
- 56:28Speaker 10: of that gun slinger in him than Daniel Jones. Daniel
- 56:31Speaker 10: Jones was always Daniel Jones, Alex Smith, you know, just
- 56:34Speaker 10: like we're you know, I'm athletic. I can throw the
- 56:36Speaker 10: ball pretty well, but I'm just never going to push it.
- 56:38Speaker 6: I thought that Daniel Jones was overdrafted. I mocked that pick.
- 56:41Speaker 6: I remember the night when it happened.
- 56:43Speaker 2: Mocked and made fun of him.
- 56:45Speaker 6: Yeah, I know, I don't. I don't do mock drafts,
- 56:49Speaker 6: so I didn't mock him. Going I'm out on mock
- 56:53Speaker 6: drafts too, but good for you, good for you side well,
- 56:57Speaker 6: but finished your point?
- 56:59Speaker 2: Did you have this?
- 57:00Speaker 6: That's like stunning.
- 57:01Speaker 9: But if you have to go to mock draft rehab
- 57:03Speaker 9: to be out on mock drafts.
- 57:05Speaker 6: Out on mock drafts, that's the best thing I've heard
- 57:07Speaker 6: saying the show. Ever.
- 57:08Speaker 10: I think that it stems from the fact that they
- 57:10Speaker 10: have the third overall picks. So, like, how many different
- 57:12Speaker 10: scenarios are we really talking about here. It's either a
- 57:15Speaker 10: Drake may mock draft, it's a Jaden mock draft, or
- 57:17Speaker 10: it's a trade down mock draft. There's no other mock
- 57:19Speaker 10: draft to do that. Those are the only.
- 57:21Speaker 3: Ones, and there's only so many people that can trade
- 57:22Speaker 3: down with. So you're getting.
- 57:24Speaker 6: Everyone Minnesota out on mock draft this particular year. Then
- 57:27Speaker 6: we'll see. But I I just so that big a declaration.
- 57:32Speaker 3: We're back, baby, We're picking twentieth.
- 57:34Speaker 10: As I do it more and more, though I not
- 57:36Speaker 10: just for myself. Just reading them and seeing them, you
- 57:39Speaker 10: noticed how pointless they really are. No, no one's ever right.
- 57:43Speaker 10: If you hit like twenty five percent of the first round,
- 57:45Speaker 10: you did well, oh yeah, and it's so just it's
- 57:48Speaker 10: what are we doing them for?
- 57:50Speaker 2: Clicks? That's it.
- 57:51Speaker 6: That's it, that's there's nothing.
- 57:53Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, and that's all I did is a content.
- 57:56Speaker 6: No, but it got a lot of clicks, yeah, I.
- 57:57Speaker 3: Mean when they weren't a lot of like just soul
- 58:00Speaker 3: team mock drafts. I remember, but I you know, it's
- 58:02Speaker 3: like you click on, you scroll down, you hear they
- 58:03Speaker 3: got h all right, you know you look at your team.
- 58:07Speaker 10: I get it, trust me, I get it.
- 58:08Speaker 9: You know, but if you don't really know what's going on,
- 58:11Speaker 9: like if you're a real you know, neophyte and all,
- 58:14Speaker 9: this thing, looking at mock drafts gives you a good
- 58:17Speaker 9: idea of who are the top rated guys?
- 58:19Speaker 2: You know.
- 58:20Speaker 10: Yeah, I think that that's the only so that's the
- 58:22Speaker 10: only value that they truly have. Is Okay, I have
- 58:25Speaker 10: picked fifteen, who are the five guys that everybody's saying
- 58:29Speaker 10: is going to be in our range?
- 58:30Speaker 2: You know?
- 58:31Speaker 10: So I can have ten guys that I'm looking at. Yeah,
- 58:33Speaker 10: that sort of thing. But we just were doing them
- 58:36Speaker 10: on video and stuff like that. Deuce and I and
- 58:38Speaker 10: we only did a couple this year because it's just
- 58:41Speaker 10: how many different scenarios could you possibly come up? With
- 58:43Speaker 10: there's not there's three. I just let them out.
- 58:45Speaker 6: That's it.
- 58:47Speaker 9: Chris writes in he's from Cofax, California. Can someone tell
- 58:50Speaker 9: me anything good about JJ McCarthy. I personally think he
- 58:54Speaker 9: will be waiting tables at the local waffle house within
- 58:57Speaker 9: three years. He's a passenger along for the ride at
- 58:59Speaker 9: a position where you're supposed to be driving the bus.
- 59:02Speaker 9: I see a faster mac Jones and really hope the
- 59:04Speaker 9: idea of taking him in New England is a smoke screen.
- 59:07Speaker 9: I fully support taking whichever is there between May or Daniels.
- 59:11Speaker 9: They are worth worth missing on. I don't think he
- 59:15Speaker 9: wrote that right.
- 59:16Speaker 2: McCarthy is not.
- 59:17Speaker 9: You take McCarthy at three or otherwise, and you're looking
- 59:21Speaker 9: at taking a quarterback within two seasons. That being said,
- 59:24Speaker 9: they take him, I'm sure I'll talk myself into him,
- 59:26Speaker 9: because I'm an idiot.
- 59:28Speaker 3: No, I think he was right. I mean that's something
- 59:29Speaker 3: I've been saying. They're worth missing on. I just think
- 59:31Speaker 3: you know you're not gonna feel bad if you take
- 59:33Speaker 3: Drake May and he can't put it all together. He's
- 59:36Speaker 3: got all the skills, he's you know, you can at
- 59:38Speaker 3: least talk yourself into that. He can compete with the
- 59:40Speaker 3: big dogs in the NFL, where even with someone like Mac,
- 59:43Speaker 3: I never felt like I could. You know, if you
- 59:45Speaker 3: have the right pieces around him, they'll compete with those teams.
- 59:47Speaker 3: But I never thought that he could go toe to
- 59:48Speaker 3: toe with guys.
- 59:49Speaker 10: Yeah, I don't think JJ McCarthy plays anything like Mac Jones.
- 59:53Speaker 10: Like I get the National Championship thing and the big
- 59:55Speaker 10: time program, but I think the positives for JJ McCarthy
- 59:59Speaker 10: are he does have plus arm, you know, he does.
- 1:00:01Speaker 10: He can put the ball, you know, velocity wise, he
- 1:00:05Speaker 10: can throw the ball pretty well. And he's got some mobility.
- 1:00:08Speaker 10: He's not a statue, you know, he's got some tough
- 1:00:10Speaker 10: he's got some mobility to get outside the pocket, make
- 1:00:14Speaker 10: some plays happen, you know, pull some things out of
- 1:00:16Speaker 10: his hat. You know against Alabama, they were in that
- 1:00:18Speaker 10: that double pass and he catches it one handed and
- 1:00:21Speaker 10: then turls around and throws a dime through Roman Wilson,
- 1:00:23Speaker 10: like on the money. You know, he's got some of
- 1:00:25Speaker 10: that ability to make plays that Mac Jones didn't have,
- 1:00:29Speaker 10: But his consistency is nowhere near as good as what
- 1:00:32Speaker 10: Max was at all.
- 1:00:33Speaker 6: I agree. I've seen some things about him, you know,
- 1:00:36Speaker 6: but from him that I know why people are talking
- 1:00:39Speaker 6: themselves into him. I definitely see a skill set.
- 1:00:42Speaker 10: The league really likes his very consistent release, like good
- 1:00:47Speaker 10: consistent platform with his feet, quick release, you know, tight released,
- 1:00:52Speaker 10: with his his arm angles and stuff like that. You know,
- 1:00:54Speaker 10: they look at him as a as a pretty mechanically
- 1:00:56Speaker 10: sound thrower as well.
- 1:00:58Speaker 9: Let's see, writ sin he goes. Mike, thanks for nerding
- 1:01:03Speaker 9: out a bit last week and sharing your thoughts on
- 1:01:05Speaker 9: the book to pack away. I wanted to check it
- 1:01:08Speaker 9: out myself, but I saw it was three hundred and
- 1:01:09Speaker 9: ninety nine dollars on Amazon. Please tell me you didn't
- 1:01:12Speaker 9: pay fook? Why is it?
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: I got it for about six bucks. It's on either
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: on eBay.
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: Or maybe it was assigned edition by you know.
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: No that I mean, that's like Bill Walsh book numbers
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: like that book is impossible, but there's plenty of cheap
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: ones out there anyway.
- 1:01:28Speaker 9: I decided to get Mike Lombardi's book, Rid Iron Genius instead,
- 1:01:32Speaker 9: and it's been a good read so far. Question for
- 1:01:34Speaker 9: all of you, what football based books do you recommend
- 1:01:37Speaker 9: for all fans of the sport or Patriots fans to read?
- 1:01:40Speaker 9: Can be strategy based, biography, et cetera.
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: Actually just it kind of like googled like best football books,
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: because I reading this one, it just made me want
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: to read a little bit more football history. But I
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: always think the Harberstam book on Belichick was a good one.
- 1:01:53Speaker 9: I'll take Your Eyes Off the Ball by Pat Kerwin
- 1:01:56Speaker 9: is good if you kind of want to learn a
- 1:01:57Speaker 9: little bit basic strategy, you know, like you know that
- 1:02:00Speaker 9: type of stuff. Trying to think of like good football
- 1:02:03Speaker 9: books that ever, I never read that book.
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: I took it out from like that La library. I
- 1:02:09Speaker 3: had to go to like the downtown library in LA
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: to get it. It's really hard to find. It's out
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: of print.
- 1:02:14Speaker 9: When I was a kid, I read like Jim Bouten
- 1:02:16Speaker 9: Ball four, and I read the Connie Hawkins book Foul
- 1:02:21Speaker 9: I think it was called.
- 1:02:23Speaker 6: Those are like biography type books. See, I like those.
- 1:02:26Speaker 6: I don't have any interest in these other ones.
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: That like dry like yeah you learn stuff?
- 1:02:34Speaker 6: No, Well, I mean, if like I understand what he's
- 1:02:37Speaker 6: he's looking for something, because he's he's looking for a
- 1:02:40Speaker 6: book that's going to help him learn the game a
- 1:02:42Speaker 6: little bit, and then you gave him suggestions. I would say,
- 1:02:44Speaker 6: take your eye off the ball is the best.
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I got that one.
- 1:02:50Speaker 6: I don't have any interest in taking my eye off
- 1:02:52Speaker 6: the ball. I have a son who I told you
- 1:02:53Speaker 6: is an offensive lineman, and I do not take my
- 1:02:55Speaker 6: eye off the ball, and you don't even watch him.
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: Was a couple ones, a couple ones they put on
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: my on my list, and I haven't read these yet,
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: but these are on my to read North Dallas forty
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: when pride still mattered, and then I loved with Friday Night.
- 1:03:11Speaker 6: Lights, North Dallas. That's again fiction.
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: Oh that's true, that's fiction. Oh no, it's it's real.
- 1:03:19Speaker 6: Friday Night Lights is not fiction. Hollywood.
- 1:03:23Speaker 10: The book, the book that I'm pretty sure that there's
- 1:03:27Speaker 10: some exaggeration there.
- 1:03:29Speaker 6: I don't think so. I mean, maybe it might be
- 1:03:31Speaker 6: the right path and everything that they went on, but
- 1:03:33Speaker 6: I thought they spent a lot of time with that program.
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: May like right, Yeah, that author.
- 1:03:41Speaker 6: I've heard what's Petersburg and that's the film. Couldn't think
- 1:03:51Speaker 6: is the directors guy? Yeah, yeah, I don't think. I
- 1:03:54Speaker 6: don't think that's fiction. Maybe I have no idea. No,
- 1:03:57Speaker 6: it's not it's not like the movies, TV show, like
- 1:04:00Speaker 6: the TV show is complete fiction. Yeah, but the book
- 1:04:05Speaker 6: I think is real. Okobe Miles is a real person.
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: One I'd like to get my hands into. Doctor Z
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: wrote Thinking Man's Guide to Football, which i've you know,
- 1:04:13Speaker 3: was in like the seventies. But that's another one. I
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: kind of like Peter King.
- 1:04:16Speaker 9: Had a book about like the History of the NFL
- 1:04:18Speaker 9: or the History of Pro Football.
- 1:04:21Speaker 6: Michael McCambridge writes history NFL history books that I think
- 1:04:24Speaker 6: are probably worth reading. That as a as an example,
- 1:04:28Speaker 6: if you if you googled Michael, I think it's m
- 1:04:31Speaker 6: ac Mick mac cambridge. Okay, he has some stuff I like.
- 1:04:37Speaker 6: The biography like North Dallas forty I bet you is
- 1:04:39Speaker 6: really good.
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:04:40Speaker 6: I never read it, but that that stuff is.
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: The movie was funny.
- 1:04:45Speaker 3: The movie either.
- 1:04:46Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, the movie is great.
- 1:04:48Speaker 3: Somebody put a list to like best football books.
- 1:04:49Speaker 6: Every time we say it's a business, you say it's
- 1:04:51Speaker 6: just a game. Every time you say it's a game,
- 1:04:53Speaker 6: we say it's a business.
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: I like that. Okay, here we go.
- 1:05:00Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:05:00Speaker 9: Jasper In Summerville wanted to break up the draft talk
- 1:05:04Speaker 9: and ask you a personal question. Is fans let's say,
- 1:05:06Speaker 9: the pages for the next twenty five years don't win
- 1:05:08Speaker 9: another super Bowl outside of simply being competitive and making
- 1:05:12Speaker 9: it to the playoffs, what scenarios or stories would give
- 1:05:16Speaker 9: you the most enjoyment as fans of the team. I
- 1:05:19Speaker 9: personally just want superstars and continuity. I want to be
- 1:05:23Speaker 9: able to follow and enjoy homegrown talent that's elite.
- 1:05:27Speaker 3: I like that. I like how we said it. I
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: mean that's something I think is a fan that's been
- 1:05:30Speaker 3: kind of missing around here is you know, that lack
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: of continuity and really just having players that as a
- 1:05:34Speaker 3: fan you can kind of get behind and you know,
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: you identify with who you're buying the jersey, who you
- 1:05:38Speaker 3: buying the jersey. You know they don't they don't have
- 1:05:40Speaker 3: a lot of that identity right now. So i'd agree.
- 1:05:43Speaker 6: So we're saying that, I guess.
- 1:05:46Speaker 3: They're not going to win what you're not going to
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: win and win champions win the championship.
- 1:05:49Speaker 6: But as he's saying, you know, not counting play it,
- 1:05:52Speaker 6: like I would want to see a playoff caliber team,
- 1:05:54Speaker 6: Like I don't want continuity. If I'm not winning anything.
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: Right, you don't want to watch it. Like Barry Sanders
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: get his teeth kicked in, well, he looks awesome.
- 1:06:01Speaker 6: For well, Barry Sanders might be an exception that I
- 1:06:04Speaker 6: would say, if my team's going to stink, at least
- 1:06:06Speaker 6: I have an all time great that I'm watching.
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: Okay, well, Matthew Stafford.
- 1:06:10Speaker 6: I could I could take myself and you know I
- 1:06:12Speaker 6: could do that, but you know I have elite Like
- 1:06:18Speaker 6: is that what he said? Like, you know, a continuity
- 1:06:20Speaker 6: with elite player, Like I don't have that.
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: I think he was kind of saying that there are
- 1:06:24Speaker 3: elite players that you could.
- 1:06:26Speaker 6: But Barry sal would be one one of one, right, Like,
- 1:06:30Speaker 6: I can't imagine anybody that I would want to really
- 1:06:32Speaker 6: watch on a team that just sucks, especially I want
- 1:06:36Speaker 6: new players.
- 1:06:37Speaker 3: Can't get the ball to him. It's frustrating.
- 1:06:39Speaker 6: Yeah. Oh like if the Patriots drafted Marvin Harrison junior. Yeah,
- 1:06:42Speaker 6: there you go.
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: It all comes back Alex and Raleigh.
- 1:06:46Speaker 9: What if the n C doua A decided to tell
- 1:06:48Speaker 9: the transfers they have to give up pay for a
- 1:06:50Speaker 9: year in order to transfer. That would put a halt
- 1:06:53Speaker 9: to all these transfers. Wouldn't onto the draft take the
- 1:06:56Speaker 9: quarterback and protect him, And we can't have another quarterback
- 1:06:59Speaker 9: be Skins out of his shadow. When he hikes the ball.
- 1:07:01Speaker 9: I'm hopeful of the offense will be the main focus
- 1:07:04Speaker 9: of the draft and we can see an improvement. Even
- 1:07:06Speaker 9: Devin mccorty says offense, offense.
- 1:07:08Speaker 3: That's true. We were there.
- 1:07:10Speaker 6: We were there.
- 1:07:10Speaker 3: He said, I hope they go offense, offense, offense.
- 1:07:13Speaker 6: So he did. What was that the draft?
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: The party part? Steve is in ticket holders.
- 1:07:18Speaker 6: It was.
- 1:07:21Speaker 3: When that Sat Saturday. He was excellent. You know, it's
- 1:07:25Speaker 3: just it's I think it's we were like, fans can't
- 1:07:28Speaker 3: really be mad at Devin McCarty right now, you know,
- 1:07:30Speaker 3: like everybody just loves Devon and everybody else can can
- 1:07:33Speaker 3: be put in the cross ears. But you know, I
- 1:07:35Speaker 3: think he expressed I mean, there was no there was
- 1:07:36Speaker 3: nothing about the dynasty really, But you know, I think
- 1:07:39Speaker 3: that he he's able to just kind of tow that
- 1:07:41Speaker 3: line pretty well right now between media and being a
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: patriot and criticizing the team a little bit, but also
- 1:07:46Speaker 3: you know, not not having a go overboard with it.
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, uh yeah. Aaron at Atlanta. Two things. If
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: you could go back to the last five drafts and
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: change a single draft pick using hindsight, which would you
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: pick and who would you pick instead. So that's the
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: first question.
- 1:08:04Speaker 11: A J.
- 1:08:04Speaker 10: Brown over here, that's a good one, the easiest answered.
- 1:08:08Speaker 6: I mean, that comes off the top of my head.
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: But anyone over Cold Strange, Yes, I did that.
- 1:08:13Speaker 6: Did you guys play the whole thing of though?
- 1:08:15Speaker 3: Fortunately, yeah, we play a lot of it. It went
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: on way too long.
- 1:08:18Speaker 6: That was a treat for me because I had never
- 1:08:19Speaker 6: heard it.
- 1:08:20Speaker 10: True story when I when I was interviewing for the position,
- 1:08:23Speaker 10: I actually told Mike about it because I was.
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: Worried that it might come up.
- 1:08:27Speaker 3: We like him, but I was our first round pick.
- 1:08:33Speaker 6: He doesn't like him. That is so great, And I
- 1:08:36Speaker 6: was right. I'm pretty sure that I had a similar
- 1:08:38Speaker 6: I know.
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: That's you put it side by side with pulse reaction.
- 1:08:40Speaker 9: On Cold Strange, like if you'd been drafted in the
- 1:08:42Speaker 9: fifth round or the fourth round.
- 1:08:44Speaker 6: You know, yeah, no, and I honestly, players are something else.
- 1:08:50Speaker 10: If the Patriots draft to get back on topic, if
- 1:08:53Speaker 10: the Patriots draft a J. Brown instead of to kill Harry,
- 1:08:55Speaker 10: does Tom Brady retire a Patriot?
- 1:08:57Speaker 6: Probably?
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: I don't know. You see the dynasty.
- 1:09:01Speaker 9: Second one, tell us about the time each of you
- 1:09:03Speaker 9: got in the most trouble.
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: With your parents.
- 1:09:06Speaker 6: Oh, I can't tell that on there.
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: Doesn't involve drugs. Maybe, Oh, that's all right.
- 1:09:12Speaker 3: I don't think I ever Really, I was a good kid.
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: I didn't get to.
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: See that dude.
- 1:09:16Speaker 6: For the most part, I was too but I did
- 1:09:18Speaker 6: get I got in a lot of mischievous trouble. I
- 1:09:20Speaker 6: got caught skip in school and that was bad. That
- 1:09:23Speaker 6: was really I think it was a freshman in high school.
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: I think the closest I came to it was like
- 1:09:27Speaker 3: one of the first drinking parties I ever went to.
- 1:09:30Speaker 3: And it was like down at the power lines, you know,
- 1:09:32Speaker 3: like that's where the parties are, like out in the woods,
- 1:09:34Speaker 3: and so you know, I'm all excited because walking distance.
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: And I had a couple of friends sleep over, and
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: so we walk out into the woods. You know, it
- 1:09:40Speaker 3: was like a mile away down in the room. So
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: we're all sitting there, you know, and it's like, all right,
- 1:09:43Speaker 3: we have like eighteen beers for everybod. Everyone gets like
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: half a beer, you know, like that's like how bad
- 1:09:47Speaker 3: it was. So we're sitting there. All a sudden it's
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: getting dark. I'm like, may we're being frash lights that
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: this is getting worse and worse, all of a sudden,
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: these flashlights kicking.
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: It's the cops.
- 1:09:54Speaker 3: And so I thought I was all of a sudden
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: in like Rambo movie, Like I sprinted like right through
- 1:09:57Speaker 3: a pond, like got soaked. I was like, you know,
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: huddling in the woods. I like, you know, camouflage on.
- 1:10:03Speaker 3: I'm like, I'm like waiting to see how I can
- 1:10:05Speaker 3: get home because you know, I'm separated. So finally make
- 1:10:07Speaker 3: my way through the woods. You know, I lost my
- 1:10:09Speaker 3: friends though, that were supposed to be sleeping over. So
- 1:10:11Speaker 3: I'm like, oh, no, I'll just run and if the
- 1:10:13Speaker 3: cop stopped me, but no, I'm just out for a run,
- 1:10:14Speaker 3: you know, like ten o'clock on Saturday. So he finally
- 1:10:16Speaker 3: got home. I walked right in and then that was
- 1:10:18Speaker 3: like we're a party and I was drinking and it
- 1:10:20Speaker 3: was there we lost all our friends, and my dad
- 1:10:22Speaker 3: was like, all right, let's go, and so I told
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: your dad. I just I just spilled it on my
- 1:10:26Speaker 3: parents and they were laughing. I mean they weren't even mad.
- 1:10:27Speaker 3: And then we got the car. We went and we
- 1:10:29Speaker 3: not only picked up the kids that were supposed to
- 1:10:30Speaker 3: be sleeping over, we picked up a couple of other kids.
- 1:10:32Speaker 3: Then my dad then said, come on shower up at
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: our house, and then he drove them home.
- 1:10:36Speaker 6: So yourself, I had had such a deuce smooth. I
- 1:10:41Speaker 6: folded quickly the first time I got caught drinking, saying
- 1:10:44Speaker 6: in a similar kind of way, I fet like I
- 1:10:47Speaker 6: got sick and they my parents came home like the
- 1:10:50Speaker 6: next day they were away, and they were like, why
- 1:10:53Speaker 6: is it all like? Everything is all clean? It was
- 1:10:55Speaker 6: all and uh, like an idiot, I said, yeah, I
- 1:10:59Speaker 6: threw up, instead of just saying I don't know. I
- 1:11:02Speaker 6: just dropped a soda or whatever. And I was like,
- 1:11:06Speaker 6: you threw up. I was feeling awful, you know. I
- 1:11:08Speaker 6: cleaned it up a little bit. Were you drinking? No,
- 1:11:11Speaker 6: were you're drinking? Yeah, that's basically how it went down. Yeah.
- 1:11:17Speaker 6: But when I got caught skipping school, I was out
- 1:11:20Speaker 6: with because I all my a lot of my friends
- 1:11:22Speaker 6: went to Pope John and Mall and Catholic and they
- 1:11:24Speaker 6: were off that day. So I was like, I'll just
- 1:11:27Speaker 6: skip and I'll hang out with them. And my mother
- 1:11:30Speaker 6: called my friend's house saying, let me let me talk
- 1:11:34Speaker 6: to Paul. He's not here, mis prol he's at school.
- 1:11:41Speaker 6: My friend Greg, Jimmy Thistle's brother in law. He said,
- 1:11:47Speaker 6: he's at school, and like, well, yeah, okay, I know
- 1:11:50Speaker 6: he's there, Greg, let me just talk to him. I
- 1:11:52Speaker 6: don't know what you're talking about. And he goes, you know, okay.
- 1:11:55Speaker 6: So he hangs up and he looks at me and
- 1:11:57Speaker 6: he goes. And it was like ten o'clock in the morning. Oh,
- 1:12:03Speaker 6: and I had to go through the rest of the
- 1:12:04Speaker 6: day because I couldn't go home, right. I was just
- 1:12:07Speaker 6: I had to try to play out. I had to
- 1:12:09Speaker 6: try to play it out, right, So tough day, tough day. Talk.
- 1:12:12Speaker 6: I waited, I waited and waited and waited, and I
- 1:12:15Speaker 6: walked in and like I had my books under my arm,
- 1:12:18Speaker 6: boom boom boom. And that was usually fine because my
- 1:12:23Speaker 6: mother was like my mother was like, you know, five two,
- 1:12:27Speaker 6: and you know, it wasn't really packing a wallup. Then
- 1:12:31Speaker 6: my father got home and it was a little different.
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:12:33Speaker 6: I was like, we already went through this.
- 1:12:36Speaker 9: Yeah, we'd have to have a whole show to talk
- 1:12:38Speaker 9: about the stuff I got in trouble for all right,
- 1:12:43Speaker 9: Paul's foods here, Uh so we got to eat anything
- 1:12:47Speaker 9: before break? No, okay, so we'll read some stuff when
- 1:12:51Speaker 9: we come back, but right now, time to eat. We'll
- 1:12:53Speaker 9: get back to more you calls and emails after this.

- 1:14:24Speaker 3: What's up, everybody?
- 1:14:25Speaker 8: Mike just So sat down with Daniel Jeremiah in this
- 1:14:28Speaker 8: week's episode of the Draft Countdown podcast presented by bud Light.
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: Let's take a listen.
- 1:14:34Speaker 5: All right, so excited to be joined by Daniel Jeremiah
- 1:14:36Speaker 5: now DJ Patriots sitting at three. Overall, it seems like
- 1:14:39Speaker 5: we're kind of I know you took Jayden Daniels in
- 1:14:42Speaker 5: your latest mock draft. Everybody I think is kind of
- 1:14:44Speaker 5: accepted Drake may or Jayden and Daniels. That seems like
- 1:14:46Speaker 5: the most popular pick. Just what do you see in
- 1:14:48Speaker 5: those two guys? What could fans here expect if if
- 1:14:51Speaker 5: you were to draft one of those guys? Do you
- 1:14:52Speaker 5: think they're ready to come in and play right away.
- 1:14:54Speaker 5: Do you think they have to sit?
- 1:14:56Speaker 4: I think they could both come in and play. I
- 1:14:58Speaker 4: think for sure, let's start with Jayden Daniels, and let's
- 1:15:01Speaker 4: start with that one. He's started a zillion games, started
- 1:15:04Speaker 4: fifty plus games in college. He's older, he's mature, he's
- 1:15:07Speaker 4: been through adversity, so you know, those are the things
- 1:15:10Speaker 4: you kind of look at when you're you know, Okay,
- 1:15:12Speaker 4: this guy canna be able to survive some of these
- 1:15:15Speaker 4: these speed bumps along their way here. I think he
- 1:15:17Speaker 4: would be fine. I think also with him the athleticism
- 1:15:20Speaker 4: to be able to buy time, and as he gets
- 1:15:22Speaker 4: more comfortable in the passing game that they're going to
- 1:15:26Speaker 4: deploy there. I think you've you've got ways to generate
- 1:15:28Speaker 4: offense as he's still gonna, you know, even though he's
- 1:15:31Speaker 4: played a lot of college games, learn how to read
- 1:15:32Speaker 4: NFL defenses and get adjusted there. I think his legs
- 1:15:35Speaker 4: by him some time. So I think you could absolutely
- 1:15:38Speaker 4: get him out there. You know what you like about him,
- 1:15:41Speaker 4: Look the accuracy, especially over the top. He's got unbelievable touch.
- 1:15:46Speaker 4: He played with confidence this year. I mean, there was
- 1:15:49Speaker 4: so many slot fades that they hit. They were just
- 1:15:52Speaker 4: you know, one after another after another, perfect over the
- 1:15:54Speaker 4: shoulder throws. And then when things aren't there, you know,
- 1:15:57Speaker 4: he can go make things happen with his legs. So
- 1:15:59Speaker 4: that's him as a player. Why I think he'd be
- 1:16:01Speaker 4: fine going right into the mix.
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: Drake.
- 1:16:03Speaker 4: May you know the prototype you get the big physical
- 1:16:08Speaker 4: athletic dude, who can you know? To me, he can
- 1:16:11Speaker 4: make every type of throw. And I mean that not
- 1:16:13Speaker 4: just like velocity wise, he has the arm strength to
- 1:16:15Speaker 4: do that. I mean you'll see him layer the ball,
- 1:16:17Speaker 4: he'll take, take some steam off the ball, touch it up.
- 1:16:21Speaker 4: He can get those over underthrows going. He got into
- 1:16:24Speaker 4: some bad habits this year, some pressure. He's drifting away
- 1:16:28Speaker 4: a little bit better job of getting his feet set.
- 1:16:30Speaker 4: But I don't think I've seen anything from him, and
- 1:16:33Speaker 4: I don't believe I've seen anything from him that would say, Okay,
- 1:16:36Speaker 4: this guy really needs a lot of time. There's some
- 1:16:38Speaker 4: things to work on, some things to clean up, but
- 1:16:40Speaker 4: again another room mentally and physically tough kid.
- 1:16:43Speaker 5: So if we don't take a quarterback there, you know,
- 1:16:45Speaker 5: everybody's kind of considering do they trade down, and it's
- 1:16:47Speaker 5: I think it's a you know, with the holes at
- 1:16:49Speaker 5: tackle at receiver.
- 1:16:51Speaker 6: I mean, these classes are loaded.
- 1:16:52Speaker 3: At both those positions.
- 1:16:53Speaker 5: Yeah, I think you trade down though, It's just it's
- 1:16:54Speaker 5: hard to see where they're picking thirty four. Those tackles
- 1:16:57Speaker 5: are going to kind of go. It feels like, you know,
- 1:16:59Speaker 5: even some of the receivers. I know that it's a
- 1:17:01Speaker 5: deep class, but what do you see maybe be a
- 1:17:03Speaker 5: package that the Patriots would consider to trade down with,
- 1:17:06Speaker 5: and you know, would it makes sense maybe for them
- 1:17:08Speaker 5: to try to hit that tackle class near the top
- 1:17:10Speaker 5: or or some of those receivers.
- 1:17:12Speaker 4: Well, there's a lot of different scenarios you can kick around.
- 1:17:14Speaker 4: I mean, you don't have to potentially go that far.
- 1:17:17Speaker 4: I mean, if you look at the Giants as a
- 1:17:18Speaker 4: team that's been mentioned as a quarterback team, whoever their
- 1:17:22Speaker 4: guy is, that could be something where if you're you know,
- 1:17:25Speaker 4: if you're the Patriots, you're like, you know, we really
- 1:17:26Speaker 4: like four quarterbacks, but we also have these other needs
- 1:17:29Speaker 4: that you mentioned. If we were to go to six,
- 1:17:32Speaker 4: there's a chance, you know, there's there's a you know,
- 1:17:35Speaker 4: there's a chance maybe the fourth quarterback is there. If not,
- 1:17:38Speaker 4: you have to be comfortable with the fact of Okay,
- 1:17:40Speaker 4: well I'm gonna get you know, I might have a
- 1:17:42Speaker 4: chance to get the best offensive tackle in the draft,
- 1:17:45Speaker 4: or I can get one of the top two wide
- 1:17:46Speaker 4: receivers in this draft. That's that, you know, that's an
- 1:17:49Speaker 4: option while picking up all these other resources to fill
- 1:17:51Speaker 4: some of these holes. So that would one that would
- 1:17:54Speaker 4: be intriguing to me. I think everybody's mentioned the Vikings
- 1:17:56Speaker 4: as a team that would you know, love to move
- 1:17:58Speaker 4: up they acquire that second first round pick from Houston
- 1:18:01Speaker 4: to be able to go do that. So eleven, you're
- 1:18:04Speaker 4: gonna miss out on top three wide outs, they're gone.
- 1:18:06Speaker 4: You're gonna probably miss out in the first two, maybe
- 1:18:08Speaker 4: even three tackles. So yeah, that one, I wouldn't I mean,
- 1:18:13Speaker 4: to me, it's sticking pick is the smartest thing to do.
- 1:18:16Speaker 4: And if for some reason you are going to trade down,
- 1:18:18Speaker 4: I don't know that I would want to go beyond
- 1:18:20Speaker 4: six if I was New England.
- 1:18:21Speaker 5: You mentioned four quarterbacks. JJ McCarthy kind of you know,
- 1:18:24Speaker 5: getting a little buzz about him. Why do you think
- 1:18:26Speaker 5: that is? What about him is his kind of made
- 1:18:28Speaker 5: him rise here after the combine.
- 1:18:31Speaker 4: Well, I think there's you know, a lot of times
- 1:18:33Speaker 4: we talk about guys rising. Guys haven't had a chance
- 1:18:35Speaker 4: to do him yet. And I think he wasn't one
- 1:18:37Speaker 4: of those name brand players that people assume would come
- 1:18:40Speaker 4: out this year over last offseason. So if you're a
- 1:18:43Speaker 4: decision maker on personnel side, you probably hadn't watched him
- 1:18:47Speaker 4: over the summer, and then you get into this year,
- 1:18:49Speaker 4: You've got your whole host of candidates for quarterbacks with
- 1:18:53Speaker 4: the assumption is he's probably going to go back to school.
- 1:18:55Speaker 4: If you're loosely following it, you're like, yeah, he's not
- 1:18:57Speaker 4: posting really big numbers, so he's maybe, you know, kind
- 1:19:00Speaker 4: of hiding in playing sight on the number one team
- 1:19:02Speaker 4: in the country. But I think once the season ended,
- 1:19:05Speaker 4: he declares, I think then people had a chance to
- 1:19:07Speaker 4: go back through. It takes a while. I was talking
- 1:19:11Speaker 4: about this somebody the other day. It takes a while to
- 1:19:13Speaker 4: get comfortable with him. It's like an acquired taste, where
- 1:19:17Speaker 4: you know, you watch a game, you watch another game like, Okay,
- 1:19:20Speaker 4: I don't know, has he done much here. I've saw
- 1:19:21Speaker 4: a couple of good throws. But then when you piece
- 1:19:23Speaker 4: the whole thing together, specifically when you do the cutups,
- 1:19:25Speaker 4: when you watch like every third and seven plus throw
- 1:19:29Speaker 4: and you, Okay, this is where you're facing challenging defenses
- 1:19:32Speaker 4: that know you're going to throw the football and you
- 1:19:34Speaker 4: see him, he deals. He his third and seven reel
- 1:19:37Speaker 4: is good or better than any quarterback in this draft class.
- 1:19:40Speaker 4: So that's why I think it took a little time.
- 1:19:42Speaker 4: It wasn't just a cut and dry, easy evaluation.
- 1:19:46Speaker 5: I mentioned kind of the three big needs quarterback, tackle, wide, receiver.
- 1:19:49Speaker 5: It just seems hard to get all three. Patriots just
- 1:19:52Speaker 5: signed kJ Osbourne. You know they have some depth there.
- 1:19:54Speaker 5: They got nine receivers on the ross. I think what's
- 1:19:56Speaker 5: really lacking is an outside threat. And I guess the
- 1:19:58Speaker 5: question really is if you don't get a receiver there
- 1:20:01Speaker 5: in day one, ad Mitchell, those kind of guys late
- 1:20:03Speaker 5: first maybe that you'd have to trade back up for.
- 1:20:05Speaker 3: Are there any fits you maybe see that could be
- 1:20:07Speaker 3: that developmental outside guy that you could get in the second,
- 1:20:10Speaker 3: third round kind of moving forward.
- 1:20:12Speaker 4: There's a ton of wideouts when you go through this draft,
- 1:20:15Speaker 4: and I think it's been that way for really the
- 1:20:17Speaker 4: last several drafts. It's just what the college game has
- 1:20:19Speaker 4: given you. So you know, you talk about a pick
- 1:20:22Speaker 4: at thirty four, top of the second round. You know,
- 1:20:26Speaker 4: one of the guys who's who's you know, got a
- 1:20:28Speaker 4: lot of love around the league is Pearsall from Florida,
- 1:20:31Speaker 4: and he's somebody who could play inside, could play outside,
- 1:20:33Speaker 4: could do a lot of different things there. Troy Franklin
- 1:20:35Speaker 4: would give him a speed merchant on the outside there
- 1:20:38Speaker 4: from Oregon who's a little lean, but he has a
- 1:20:41Speaker 4: lot of juice, a lot of explosiveness. But I mean,
- 1:20:43Speaker 4: we could literally go through the entire every round of
- 1:20:45Speaker 4: the draft and I can give you three names that
- 1:20:48Speaker 4: are going to be there.
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: It's just there's a million of them.
- 1:20:50Speaker 4: So and that's one of the things that I'm struggling
- 1:20:52Speaker 4: with forecast in this first top ten is yes, I
- 1:20:56Speaker 4: have three receivers the top five players in this draft class.
- 1:21:00Speaker 4: And I'm sitting there going like, gosh, I wouldn't want
- 1:21:01Speaker 4: to pass one of these three guys. But then I'm like, yeah,
- 1:21:03Speaker 4: you could wait until the second, third, fourth round and
- 1:21:05Speaker 4: they're still starting caliber players there. Whereas you know, tackles,
- 1:21:09Speaker 4: even though it's a deep group, you know, historically here
- 1:21:12Speaker 4: they're gone at the end of the first round. You're
- 1:21:16Speaker 4: it's hard to find starting tackles they're just not going
- 1:21:18Speaker 4: to be there. So that's why to me, that informs
- 1:21:21Speaker 4: the decision a little bit and you go, Okay, maybe
- 1:21:23Speaker 4: I have this receiver a little bit over this tackle
- 1:21:25Speaker 4: or maybe a little bit over this, you know, edge
- 1:21:27Speaker 4: rusher or receiver. When you look at the receivers with
- 1:21:30Speaker 4: versus edgreshers and tackles, it's like, man, I can get
- 1:21:32Speaker 4: receivers anywhere, So that'll be fascinating.
- 1:21:36Speaker 5: Just generally, what do you what do you feel like
- 1:21:37Speaker 5: when we get into Day three, late day two, Day three,
- 1:21:40Speaker 5: where's the value there? Like, what are the position groups
- 1:21:42Speaker 5: you feel like a have that depth that I mean,
- 1:21:44Speaker 5: you know, regardless of niedchs, just the what are the
- 1:21:46Speaker 5: strongest positions there in the Day three Yeah, I.
- 1:21:48Speaker 6: Think there's corners.
- 1:21:50Speaker 4: I think it's a good group of Day three corners.
- 1:21:51Speaker 4: I also think the running backs are all going to
- 1:21:53Speaker 4: get pushed down. We don't have a lot of separation there.
- 1:21:57Speaker 4: You know, one team's top running back might be another
- 1:21:59Speaker 4: team's eight running back. It's just there's a clump of them,
- 1:22:02Speaker 4: so you don't see them going the first round. There's
- 1:22:05Speaker 4: a chance we potentially don't even see one go in
- 1:22:07Speaker 4: the second round. And then now I think you see
- 1:22:09Speaker 4: a run in the third, and then I think even
- 1:22:11Speaker 4: to early on Day three, that fourth, fifth round, I
- 1:22:14Speaker 4: think there's a good number of backs and that's kind
- 1:22:16Speaker 4: of the sweet spot for him in this draft. So corners,
- 1:22:20Speaker 4: running backs, those would be the two. To me. I
- 1:22:22Speaker 4: think once you get in day three, I think you
- 1:22:23Speaker 4: can get starters.
- 1:22:25Speaker 5: So last question one for you just obviously turnover this year,
- 1:22:28Speaker 5: major turnover at the coaching position, Alex van Pelt coming
- 1:22:30Speaker 5: in as the offensive coordinator, Drop Mayo head coach, game
- 1:22:33Speaker 5: plan defense. They've always been pretty flexible on that side
- 1:22:36Speaker 5: of the ball. Just overall, any fits that you see,
- 1:22:38Speaker 5: I know the Patriots are evolving, we don't know for
- 1:22:40Speaker 5: sure what they're gonna do, but assuming they kind of
- 1:22:41Speaker 5: stick in really at least defensively what we've seen from
- 1:22:44Speaker 5: Van Pelt, any guys out there that you think are
- 1:22:46Speaker 5: kind of fit.
- 1:22:47Speaker 6: From an offensive standpoint.
- 1:22:48Speaker 3: Yeah, either either side of the ball, offense or defense.
- 1:22:51Speaker 4: I mean to me, I know that obviously Bill's not there,
- 1:22:54Speaker 4: but I think defensively, I don't really see anything changing.
- 1:22:56Speaker 4: I mean, they're always you know, I think that's ingrained
- 1:22:59Speaker 4: in their culture and who they are. They're going to
- 1:23:01Speaker 4: value you know, smart, tough, erst little players. I think
- 1:23:03Speaker 4: they're maybe trying to get a little little faster, and
- 1:23:07Speaker 4: to me, you can do that, not only you know,
- 1:23:09Speaker 4: we think about the secondary. I think again just linebackers.
- 1:23:11Speaker 4: Just get more speed, as much speed as you can
- 1:23:13Speaker 4: get out there on the field, and then offensively, the
- 1:23:16Speaker 4: identity to me is going to be about, okay, is
- 1:23:19Speaker 4: are we going to stick and pick? If it's the
- 1:23:21Speaker 4: third guy is going to be a quarterback, then to me,
- 1:23:24Speaker 4: I think, you know, I think I like the fact
- 1:23:26Speaker 4: of bringing Hunter back to me, I have a young quarterback.
- 1:23:29Speaker 4: I want easy completions. So even though we would like
- 1:23:32Speaker 4: a big, a big guy in the outside of flyer,
- 1:23:35Speaker 4: I think it'd almost be more valuable just adding quickness
- 1:23:38Speaker 4: and guys that can uncover and guys that can run
- 1:23:39Speaker 4: after the catch and try and take some of that
- 1:23:41Speaker 4: off of this guy who you know, you've got a
- 1:23:43Speaker 4: bridge quarterback in place so he doesn't have to go
- 1:23:45Speaker 4: out there week one. But I would imagine if they
- 1:23:47Speaker 4: stick and pick, we're going to see that guy sooner
- 1:23:49Speaker 4: than later.
- 1:23:51Speaker 8: When someone accidentally threw away the school play costumes, Oh no,
- 1:23:56Speaker 8: replacements were shipped with FedEx and with picture proof of delivery,
- 1:24:00Speaker 8: everyone could focus on the perfect opening night FedEx where
- 1:24:03Speaker 8: now it's next for residential delivery only.
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: And now great moments in.
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: History.
- 1:24:13Speaker 12: And yet I was still nice enough to invite you along. Yes,
- 1:24:16Speaker 12: very nice. You've got our There were like six of us.
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: I mean, the place was to say Fred was the
- 1:24:22Speaker 2: you know what block?
- 1:24:23Speaker 6: Why are you mad at me? Why?
- 1:24:24Speaker 2: Why?
- 1:24:25Speaker 6: He says, with the big grin across his face.
- 1:24:27Speaker 2: Why are you so upset?
- 1:24:28Speaker 3: What I'm upset at you?
- 1:24:30Speaker 2: Why? Yeah? Just you? All of our lives are open book.
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: Why is it you are?
- 1:24:34Speaker 12: Why you purposely do these things?
- 1:24:38Speaker 2: Yes? I do, yes, yes, I do talk. We all
- 1:24:41Speaker 2: talk about things going on.
- 1:24:43Speaker 3: You make things out of thin air that are not there.
- 1:24:45Speaker 2: What's thin air? You were with a lady friend? What's
- 1:24:47Speaker 2: what's thin air about that?
- 1:24:49Speaker 12: No, a lady friend implies that there's something going on,
- 1:24:53Speaker 12: and she wrote that.
- 1:24:53Speaker 3: That's the end of it.
- 1:24:54Speaker 12: Dude, look like but it doesn't have to be. It
- 1:24:57Speaker 12: is because I told you yesterday. And I don't like
- 1:24:59Speaker 12: it when you make me repeat myself.
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: It sounds like my father. You think I'm screwing things
- 1:25:05Speaker 2: up for.
- 1:25:05Speaker 3: You just tell me you've been screwing things up for
- 1:25:08Speaker 3: me for twelve years. Buddy, did you specifically tell him
- 1:25:11Speaker 3: not to mention it? No? I knew he was going
- 1:25:13Speaker 3: as soon as he walked up and saw us. He
- 1:25:14Speaker 3: had that stupid grin that he's got on his face
- 1:25:16Speaker 3: right now. I can so see it.
- 1:25:19Speaker 2: I won't mention it again. But if when something happens,
- 1:25:22Speaker 2: could you let us.
- 1:25:23Speaker 3: Know nothing is going to happen.
- 1:25:26Speaker 2: You know, like if they hook, you know, if they
- 1:25:27Speaker 2: decide to nothing is going to happen.
- 1:25:33Speaker 3: You morons. I'm gonna go with Andy.
- 1:25:35Speaker 2: Why are you yelling at me?
- 1:25:36Speaker 12: I didn't do anything because you're joking around to him
- 1:25:39Speaker 12: on a little Yes, you did, admit it, but this
- 1:25:41Speaker 12: is all.
- 1:25:42Speaker 6: Fred, I don't know.
- 1:25:43Speaker 2: Okay, what'd you guys eat? Did I miss that part?
- 1:25:46Speaker 2: I had swordfish.
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: That's another great moment from.
- 1:25:53Speaker 9: Easy to Drink, Easy to Enjoy bud Light, the official
- 1:25:56Speaker 9: beer sponsor of the New England Patriots. And if you're
- 1:25:59Speaker 9: under wondering what to do without game day weekends, spruce
- 1:26:03Speaker 9: up your home for festive spring. God, let's try this again.
- 1:26:08Speaker 9: Spruce up your home for festive spring brunches with Bob's
- 1:26:13Speaker 9: latest party ready seasonal dining styles. Did they write this
- 1:26:16Speaker 9: purposely to make it.
- 1:26:18Speaker 6: Tough to read?
- 1:26:19Speaker 9: Whether you're looking for storage packed seating, expandable options, or
- 1:26:23Speaker 9: cozy coffee tables, Be sure to shop Bob's Discount Furniture,
- 1:26:27Speaker 9: the official furniture store of the New England Patriots. And
- 1:26:30Speaker 9: I can promise you that shopping at Bob's is easier
- 1:26:33Speaker 9: than reading this copy.
- 1:26:35Speaker 3: So, uh, brunch though, brunch is good.
- 1:26:39Speaker 2: Brunch is good. You get to choose.
- 1:26:41Speaker 6: I have a guy.
- 1:26:43Speaker 3: I'll do like you guys have dinner. No, No, it
- 1:26:46Speaker 3: was our anniversary. So we we were in Boston. D go, No,
- 1:26:53Speaker 3: We're great somewhere in Boston. And then we went to
- 1:26:55Speaker 3: a museum.
- 1:26:56Speaker 2: Want to the York Harbor Inn in York, Maine. They
- 1:26:59Speaker 2: have a brunch.
- 1:27:01Speaker 3: Oh, Inns always have the brunches, Like in Vermont, they
- 1:27:03Speaker 3: always have really good brunches. It inns.
- 1:27:06Speaker 2: I had. I had roast beef and then I had
- 1:27:08Speaker 2: breakfast aff.
- 1:27:09Speaker 3: There you go right like it doesn't even matter, like
- 1:27:11Speaker 3: a little of this, a little that little breakfast. But
- 1:27:13Speaker 3: that's what the be doing.
- 1:27:14Speaker 9: Is Travis and West Virginia says, sorry if it seems
- 1:27:16Speaker 9: like I'm coming out of left field. But every time
- 1:27:18Speaker 9: I hear Evan's voice, I think of Jersey Mikes. I
- 1:27:21Speaker 9: think the fact that I think the fact that they
- 1:27:23Speaker 9: slice their meat on the spot is completely inconsequential.
- 1:27:26Speaker 3: Oh, I disagree. I think that's what.
- 1:27:29Speaker 9: No, but he's saying that it's better to promote Jersey
- 1:27:35Speaker 9: Mikes than the fact that.
- 1:27:36Speaker 3: They slave better than I've been saying that the Brewins
- 1:27:39Speaker 3: somehow got some of that Jersey Mike's money, and I don't.
- 1:27:41Speaker 3: I don't know why why we can't come this way on.
- 1:27:44Speaker 10: Yeah, you know, I'm not gonna pump up Jersey Mikes
- 1:27:47Speaker 10: because they don't pay me to.
- 1:27:48Speaker 6: So there you go. I like, I like Jersey Mike's
- 1:27:50Speaker 6: as my voice.
- 1:27:51Speaker 2: I think I think, you know, that category might be open.
- 1:27:55Speaker 9: And if you're someone that's affiliated with Jersey Mikes and
- 1:27:59Speaker 9: you're listening to the show and you want to become
- 1:28:01Speaker 9: a sponsor.
- 1:28:02Speaker 2: Picture this.
- 1:28:03Speaker 3: Every day we launch in the middle of the show,
- 1:28:05Speaker 3: we put a little platter on the middle.
- 1:28:08Speaker 9: And get a couple original thirteens with with Mike's way.
- 1:28:12Speaker 2: Right right there.
- 1:28:13Speaker 3: Maybe we even get the meat.
- 1:28:14Speaker 2: We'll cut the.
- 1:28:14Speaker 3: Meat in here we'll you know, Peyton Manning and cut
- 1:28:17Speaker 3: some meat.
- 1:28:18Speaker 6: I don't need the meat, you know, in front of me,
- 1:28:21Speaker 6: like that whole thing.
- 1:28:22Speaker 2: You don't of meat in front of you.
- 1:28:23Speaker 6: I don't need it to be cut.
- 1:28:24Speaker 3: You're not plugging holes.
- 1:28:26Speaker 10: That's not even my attraction to Jersey Mike's.
- 1:28:29Speaker 6: They do that. It's a consistent.
- 1:28:30Speaker 10: It's the consistency. It's just always good every time. I
- 1:28:35Speaker 10: know exactly what I'm getting myself into.
- 1:28:36Speaker 3: You get a bad roast beef every now and then
- 1:28:38Speaker 3: when you get it's like, oh, this is a little
- 1:28:40Speaker 3: a little bit of.
- 1:28:42Speaker 6: No.
- 1:28:42Speaker 3: Not not usually because they cut it themselves. But I
- 1:28:44Speaker 3: think that's when you go rogue and you try to
- 1:28:47Speaker 3: make your own roast beef sandwich and you get not
- 1:28:49Speaker 3: ideal roast beef and it's a little you know, get
- 1:28:51Speaker 3: some fat in there.
- 1:28:53Speaker 6: I like consistency.
- 1:28:55Speaker 3: So what if they have let's work, let's let's spip
- 1:28:58Speaker 3: all this.
- 1:28:59Speaker 6: You've got me in. So what if you go to
- 1:29:02Speaker 6: Jersey Mikes and they cut a roast beef that's bad.
- 1:29:05Speaker 3: I don't know, I might be I would question the
- 1:29:07Speaker 3: roast beef then from there on out.
- 1:29:08Speaker 6: So it's not the fact that it's cut in front
- 1:29:10Speaker 6: of you. It's the fact that you think it's a
- 1:29:12Speaker 6: hard quality of meat.
- 1:29:14Speaker 2: Perhaps, well, but if you know it hasn't been sitting.
- 1:29:18Speaker 3: Around you know, right, But bores head is very it is.
- 1:29:23Speaker 2: That what they see. I like it.
- 1:29:26Speaker 6: I like I don't necessarily need to have a cut
- 1:29:28Speaker 6: in front of me. I assume it's not sitting around
- 1:29:31Speaker 6: for like days subway, but you are correct. I don't
- 1:29:35Speaker 6: think that the again, not a sponsor. I'm not sure
- 1:29:41Speaker 6: what they serve as actual meat. Like that's my problem.
- 1:29:45Speaker 2: Because I eat Subway. I do.
- 1:29:48Speaker 10: I used to eat it all the pinch, but then
- 1:29:50Speaker 10: this Jersey Mike started to expand to this.
- 1:29:53Speaker 9: Oh, here's the question for you, and people know that
- 1:29:55Speaker 9: talk about football.
- 1:29:56Speaker 6: No, no, no. When you were gone last week, we had
- 1:29:58Speaker 6: a great show.
- 1:29:59Speaker 2: What's better? My riz was up a cheeseburger or a
- 1:30:03Speaker 2: Paddy Melt.
- 1:30:05Speaker 6: I don't know the difference.
- 1:30:07Speaker 2: Paddy melt.
- 1:30:08Speaker 3: You're getting some onions.
- 1:30:10Speaker 6: A good cheeseburger.
- 1:30:11Speaker 9: Paddy Melt is basically a cheeseburger, but instead of being
- 1:30:14Speaker 9: on a bun, it's on toast.
- 1:30:17Speaker 2: Could but it's slice can be very good.
- 1:30:21Speaker 3: It can be very good. I'll get one of those
- 1:30:24Speaker 3: at at Mels driving in l A.
- 1:30:26Speaker 6: They have those those are that when you're in l A.
- 1:30:30Speaker 3: One in l A. It's well, it's one of those,
- 1:30:32Speaker 3: like there was a few of them.
- 1:30:33Speaker 2: But I sitting I think, I.
- 1:30:37Speaker 9: Think I'll always choose a Paddy melt over a cheeseburger
- 1:30:42Speaker 9: if it's on the menu, because yeah, it's you get
- 1:30:45Speaker 9: more of the meat, you know, it's less bread.
- 1:30:48Speaker 6: Yeah yeah, I'm a cheeseburger guy. So if you're looking
- 1:30:51Speaker 6: for it to be a little bit less feeling that.
- 1:30:53Speaker 9: Well, I just want I want the meat to be
- 1:30:55Speaker 9: the dominant food, all right.
- 1:30:57Speaker 3: You know, you can get a lot of onions, so
- 1:30:59Speaker 3: sometimes they kind of grilled in the onions.
- 1:31:01Speaker 6: Sometimes they do like a smash burg smash burger on
- 1:31:05Speaker 6: the onion cheese.
- 1:31:08Speaker 9: You know who works had a fabulous patty melt and
- 1:31:11Speaker 9: I think where I had my first one was Friendlies.
- 1:31:13Speaker 3: Oh yeah, oh yeah sure, all right, fact a fact.
- 1:31:17Speaker 3: Grilled cheeses, I mean grill cheese.
- 1:31:18Speaker 9: You get the patty melt with the crinkle fries in
- 1:31:20Speaker 9: the fribble.
- 1:31:22Speaker 10: It's just so you go up to me that Friendlies
- 1:31:25Speaker 10: is what it's going on.
- 1:31:27Speaker 6: Freddy nailed it.
- 1:31:28Speaker 3: There's still one here on Root one in Norwood that
- 1:31:30Speaker 3: was hopping and we drove by. It's the only one.
- 1:31:33Speaker 6: Yeah. I used to take the kids there a lot
- 1:31:35Speaker 6: when they were young because it's just easy, you know,
- 1:31:37Speaker 6: like if they were like being loud or whatever, it
- 1:31:39Speaker 6: wasn't you know, you're friendlies, you know, pretty nice there.
- 1:31:42Speaker 6: I didn't. I didn't really venture out by myself with
- 1:31:44Speaker 6: both of them a lot. Friendlies was the place I
- 1:31:47Speaker 6: was comfortable. I can handle this. I can handle friendlies.
- 1:31:50Speaker 6: They're going to give me like crayons in the in
- 1:31:51Speaker 6: the matt. I got this.
- 1:31:55Speaker 2: All right. Uh, phones are downs.
- 1:31:57Speaker 9: That's why I haven't given out the phone number, but
- 1:31:59Speaker 9: web radio at pay dot com it's the email address.
- 1:32:02Speaker 9: We're getting a whole new phone system eventually.
- 1:32:05Speaker 3: Yeah, we we we people were writing in on Thursday
- 1:32:08Speaker 3: about that, so we tried to leave.
- 1:32:09Speaker 9: Now we're working on it because you have to move
- 1:32:11Speaker 9: the phone numbers over and uh it takes time for
- 1:32:15Speaker 9: that to happen.
- 1:32:18Speaker 2: So we're working on it.
- 1:32:19Speaker 6: Who am I blaming on this? But put this on.
- 1:32:22Speaker 9: I think by the time the draft is over, we'll
- 1:32:25Speaker 9: have new phones. You but here comes back. I'm blaming
- 1:32:31Speaker 9: you finance.
- 1:32:34Speaker 6: He said, I actually talked about this on Friday with
- 1:32:36Speaker 6: my buddy. He knew nothing about it. Okay nothing.
- 1:32:40Speaker 9: Bronson writes in I really like the idea of pairing
- 1:32:43Speaker 9: tz Walker with May. My question is, do you think
- 1:32:46Speaker 9: Walker will be there for our third pick or we
- 1:32:49Speaker 9: have to trade up for him.
- 1:32:51Speaker 10: I think he'll be there. F Nicks, Yeah, he had
- 1:32:53Speaker 10: a rough Senior Bowl week he's had. You know, he's
- 1:32:55Speaker 10: one of those guys that's doesn't have very many branches
- 1:33:00Speaker 10: on the old rout tree. You know, He's a vertical receiver,
- 1:33:03Speaker 10: run down the field, and a lot of his film
- 1:33:06Speaker 10: is just him running through off coverage and not a
- 1:33:09Speaker 10: lot of press, not a lot of resistance. And with
- 1:33:13Speaker 10: the Senior Bowl he saw more press, saw a more
- 1:33:15Speaker 10: physical coverage, and had trouble finishing through contact.
- 1:33:19Speaker 6: I'm not necessarily anti you know, coupling. As you kids
- 1:33:24Speaker 6: like to say with your fantasy terms. Here we go again,
- 1:33:30Speaker 6: couple that's auling is very different from me. That's very
- 1:33:35Speaker 6: different with you were talking. But I'm not I'm not
- 1:33:37Speaker 6: opposed to the whole you know, Jamar Chase, Joe Burrow,
- 1:33:40Speaker 6: but I don't think it's anywhere near as valuable as
- 1:33:43Speaker 6: people make it out to be. I think there's a
- 1:33:45Speaker 6: lot of great quarterbacks that never threw the ball to
- 1:33:47Speaker 6: their college teammates. Mahomes, I couldn't even tell you a
- 1:33:52Speaker 6: guy you threw the ball to in college.
- 1:33:54Speaker 9: Another note on everyone being so upset about our free
- 1:33:57Speaker 9: agency and not spending all our money. I think we
- 1:33:59Speaker 9: were signed some key players and swung for Ridley and
- 1:34:02Speaker 9: that's all we can ask for. People have to remember
- 1:34:05Speaker 9: we have twenty eight players set to hit free agency
- 1:34:07Speaker 9: next season, and I would prefer to re sign some
- 1:34:10Speaker 9: guys like obviously bar More, hopefully Dougar. Plus there is
- 1:34:13Speaker 9: a ton of other guys I'd like to bring back, Mandre,
- 1:34:17Speaker 9: David Andrews, Devia Pepper's Jonathan Jones gotscha. So we have
- 1:34:20Speaker 9: a ton of guys to bring back next year. So
- 1:34:22Speaker 9: I'm not mad we didn't go all out in this
- 1:34:25Speaker 9: average free agency.
- 1:34:28Speaker 3: What do you think said going on with dugger?
- 1:34:29Speaker 6: Sorry, Paul, you can email in next year because the
- 1:34:31Speaker 6: vast majority of you a list, I don't think we'll
- 1:34:33Speaker 6: be back. Like gotcha Jonathan Jones reminder, isn't he just
- 1:34:38Speaker 6: sing one too? Like? Do you want to give it
- 1:34:39Speaker 6: the running back shot because he's younger, but I mean
- 1:34:46Speaker 6: thirty something year old secondary and defensive lineman and cornerbacks.
- 1:34:51Speaker 6: I don't think you're gonna get all those guys back.
- 1:34:52Speaker 6: You might get one or two.
- 1:34:53Speaker 3: But do you think Duggers places us here under that tag?
- 1:34:56Speaker 2: Yes?
- 1:34:56Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's it?
- 1:34:58Speaker 6: Then yeah, but that my yes, I don't think he has. Yeah,
- 1:35:03Speaker 6: they would have extended him bar more. I think could
- 1:35:05Speaker 6: get extended imminently better like that.
- 1:35:09Speaker 9: Mike and Bill Ricca wanted to comment on Jaden Daniels
- 1:35:13Speaker 9: and go on the record that he is going to
- 1:35:15Speaker 9: be a bust. He is a one read quarterback throwing
- 1:35:18Speaker 9: to multiple first round wide receiver talents, who takes and
- 1:35:22Speaker 9: takes sacks at obscene rates. I can't see him as
- 1:35:25Speaker 9: anything other than justin Feel's two point zero? Am I crazy?
- 1:35:29Speaker 9: I'd love to hear your thoughts, give me may or
- 1:35:31Speaker 9: trade down. I would even rather JJ over Daniels my
- 1:35:35Speaker 9: rankings Caleb Drake, Pennix JJ than Daniels.
- 1:35:40Speaker 10: I would just you. Maybe you brought up some good points.
- 1:35:43Speaker 10: The sack, the pressure to sack rate for Jaden Daniels
- 1:35:46Speaker 10: is one stat that the nerds like me look at
- 1:35:48Speaker 10: in the draft process. That's been pretty predictive in terms
- 1:35:52Speaker 10: of the NFL. Is not good for Jaden Daniels. He's
- 1:35:55Speaker 10: got one of the highest When he's under pressure, he
- 1:35:57Speaker 10: takes a sack at an extremely high rate. But the
- 1:36:00Speaker 10: one thing I will disagree, the one read quarterback then
- 1:36:02Speaker 10: could not be further from the truth. That guy can
- 1:36:05Speaker 10: read the full field, go through progressions, get to the
- 1:36:07Speaker 10: number two three check down just as good as anybody else.
- 1:36:10Speaker 6: So I would hold that as a more important trait
- 1:36:13Speaker 6: than if he's not a one one, one read guy. Yeah, disagree.
- 1:36:17Speaker 6: I always think of guys that are very mobile like
- 1:36:20Speaker 6: that a is off sacked. But you're telling me every
- 1:36:22Speaker 6: time he's under pressure he tends to Well it's not
- 1:36:25Speaker 6: literally every time, but it's a higher rate, So that
- 1:36:28Speaker 6: wuld that would concern me. Generally, guys that are very
- 1:36:30Speaker 6: mobile get sacked. They're always running around and sometimes they
- 1:36:34Speaker 6: get sacked.
- 1:36:34Speaker 3: Yeah. Interesting, you know, it's kind of counterintuitive that you
- 1:36:37Speaker 3: think they'd be able to get.
- 1:36:38Speaker 6: Michael Vick was a very you know SA numbers. Yeah,
- 1:36:42Speaker 6: he does take a lot of sacks, There's there's no
- 1:36:44Speaker 6: doubt about that.
- 1:36:45Speaker 3: But it's that almost like could you break that down
- 1:36:47Speaker 3: more into like sacked within structure and sacked outside of structure.
- 1:36:51Speaker 6: Yes, you probably could. That's something I would have to
- 1:36:54Speaker 6: do by hand, so probably won't if we draft him,
- 1:37:00Speaker 6: don't have it by the monday.
- 1:37:01Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah, but it's it's the sacked. The reason why
- 1:37:05Speaker 10: it's a fair concern is because if you look at
- 1:37:07Speaker 10: the lists of guys that weren't sacked a lot in
- 1:37:10Speaker 10: college versus guys that were sacked a lot in college,
- 1:37:12Speaker 10: there weren't there were sacked a lot in college in
- 1:37:15Speaker 10: this pressure rate percentage that I'm talking about, the list
- 1:37:18Speaker 10: is not good and they're basically the only good quarterback
- 1:37:21Speaker 10: out of it is ironically Lamar, which is why everybody says, well,
- 1:37:24Speaker 10: it means nothing because he plays like Lamar, and Lamar
- 1:37:26Speaker 10: did fine, so he'll be fine.
- 1:37:28Speaker 6: And it's a mobile quarterback too, So I'd be curious
- 1:37:31Speaker 6: what kind of number JJ McCarty has in that, because
- 1:37:35Speaker 6: I can't imagine JJ McCarty spent much of his time
- 1:37:38Speaker 6: under pressure right period plenty of time. I saw one
- 1:37:42Speaker 6: stat that said that he had an absurd amount of time.
- 1:37:46Speaker 6: Average time to throw was almost like three seconds. I
- 1:37:50Speaker 6: think it was like two point nine to five seconds,
- 1:37:52Speaker 6: something really high. So I'd be curious to see if
- 1:37:56Speaker 6: his percentage under pressure sacked under pressure is high.
- 1:38:00Speaker 9: If you look at a lot of these guys, these quarterbacks,
- 1:38:02Speaker 9: except for maybe May in this last season, they all
- 1:38:05Speaker 9: have a lot of time, you know, so it's just
- 1:38:09Speaker 9: different in the pros.
- 1:38:10Speaker 2: That's to me.
- 1:38:11Speaker 6: That's the biggest way for his life the whole year.
- 1:38:13Speaker 9: Yeah, that's the biggest thing is the speed of the game,
- 1:38:17Speaker 9: you know, and it comes at you so much faster
- 1:38:19Speaker 9: as a quarterback.
- 1:38:20Speaker 6: Now, part of that is Caleb on Caleb Williams, and
- 1:38:22Speaker 6: I do think that My big knock on him is
- 1:38:25Speaker 6: he's kareless.
- 1:38:25Speaker 2: With the ball. Yeah, it's out here.
- 1:38:28Speaker 6: He scrambles around within one hand a lot, and that's
- 1:38:30Speaker 6: why he fumbles a lot. Yeah, likes who's my guy,
- 1:38:34Speaker 6: Josh Allen, He still does.
- 1:38:35Speaker 9: That, Joe and Richmond. This is on the kickoff rule.
- 1:38:40Speaker 9: With the new kickoff return rules, it seems like running
- 1:38:42Speaker 9: back types may be better suited than the traditional speedy
- 1:38:45Speaker 9: return men that are on rosters.
- 1:38:47Speaker 2: What do you think?
- 1:38:48Speaker 6: I kind of agree with you, Yeah, I agree.
- 1:38:51Speaker 10: I think it's going to be a lot more about
- 1:38:52Speaker 10: vision and burst than build.
- 1:38:53Speaker 3: Up speed breaking through a line too, you know.
- 1:38:56Speaker 6: Yeah, you got to find a hole and hit it
- 1:38:58Speaker 6: as opposed to you just gotta run up few as
- 1:39:00Speaker 6: fast as you can and see if you can get.
- 1:39:01Speaker 9: Makes one cut and co Yeah, I think that right now,
- 1:39:05Speaker 9: all the special teams guys are thinking about this rule
- 1:39:07Speaker 9: and how are they gonna It's.
- 1:39:08Speaker 3: Gonna Antony and Gibson dealing with it. You know, I'm curious.
- 1:39:11Speaker 6: They did make an alteration to the original proposal and
- 1:39:14Speaker 6: that touchback is to the thirty not the thirty five. Okay,
- 1:39:17Speaker 6: so I think you can still get plenty of touchbacks.
- 1:39:20Speaker 10: So I got the numbers here for you. So pressure
- 1:39:23Speaker 10: to sacrate Jayden Daniels by far the highest at twenty
- 1:39:26Speaker 10: four point five percent, So this means when he's under pressure,
- 1:39:29Speaker 10: he takes a sack on twenty four point five percent
- 1:39:32Speaker 10: of those dropacks. JJ McCarthy is fourteen point three percent,
- 1:39:38Speaker 10: and in the middle, in the middle, but towards the
- 1:39:42Speaker 10: lower end of the spectrum. Michael Pennix is number one
- 1:39:45Speaker 10: at six point five percent, and Bo Nicks is eleven
- 1:39:49Speaker 10: point six percent. Drake May is eighteen point nine percent.
- 1:39:54Speaker 10: So Drake May is also on the higher end of
- 1:39:56Speaker 10: the spectrum. I don't see Caleb on here.
- 1:39:58Speaker 11: So.
- 1:40:00Speaker 2: Uh, let's see Grant Is in Columbus, Ohio.
- 1:40:04Speaker 9: UH. I know I'm in the minority on this opinion,
- 1:40:07Speaker 9: but I strongly feel the Patriots should draft the third
- 1:40:10Speaker 9: and stock trade the third and stockpile as many picks
- 1:40:14Speaker 9: as they can to fill the numerous needs on the team.
- 1:40:16Speaker 9: The team is not ready for their next franchise quarterback,
- 1:40:20Speaker 9: and fans are kidding themselves if they think this team,
- 1:40:22Speaker 9: as constructed now has any chance of sniffing the playoffs.
- 1:40:26Speaker 9: The QB position shouldn't be addressed until free agency or
- 1:40:30Speaker 9: the draft next calendar year. If they do want to
- 1:40:33Speaker 9: take a quarterback this year, they should focus on someone
- 1:40:35Speaker 9: like Sam Hartman in the later round. Let's go with
- 1:40:39Speaker 9: Jacobe and see how things shake out.
- 1:40:41Speaker 2: I guess I just don't I don't care.
- 1:40:46Speaker 6: If you.
- 1:40:48Speaker 9: I just don't understand this mentality we have been We
- 1:40:52Speaker 9: were so lucky to have Tom Brady for so long. Right,
- 1:40:55Speaker 9: It's hard to find a franchise quarterback.
- 1:40:58Speaker 2: In this league.
- 1:40:58Speaker 9: If you think that one of these three guys couldn't
- 1:41:01Speaker 9: be one, you better take them.
- 1:41:04Speaker 2: You better take them. I don't care what the construction
- 1:41:07Speaker 2: of the team looks like.
- 1:41:08Speaker 6: I don't understand that mentality either. Fred I wrote about
- 1:41:11Speaker 6: it last week in the Notebook, this notion that all
- 1:41:14Speaker 6: of a sudden came out of nowhere, like you can't
- 1:41:17Speaker 6: take a rookie quarterback if you don't have the roster
- 1:41:19Speaker 6: to support him. Like, I don't get it. I know
- 1:41:21Speaker 6: everybody says it now, but I would also counter that
- 1:41:25Speaker 6: that email just by saying, so, just because you don't
- 1:41:29Speaker 6: think you're going to make the playoffs, why should you
- 1:41:31Speaker 6: not take a quarterback? Like? Why those things mutually exclusive?
- 1:41:36Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:41:37Speaker 6: I don't.
- 1:41:37Speaker 10: I don't think that's looking at it as a one
- 1:41:39Speaker 10: year snapshot versus looking at it as like exactly, and
- 1:41:42Speaker 10: the draft is in a one year thing.
- 1:41:43Speaker 6: So why is it okay if you don't think you're
- 1:41:45Speaker 6: going to make the playoffs to pick up a tackle.
- 1:41:48Speaker 6: But it's not okay if you don't think you're gonna
- 1:41:50Speaker 6: make the playoffs to take a quarterback.
- 1:41:51Speaker 2: I know it's just the frame of mind that never
- 1:41:53Speaker 2: they're so fragile.
- 1:41:54Speaker 3: Never crossed my mind. But would you say quarterbacks is
- 1:41:56Speaker 3: the most common position drafted first overall?
- 1:41:58Speaker 2: Yes?
- 1:41:59Speaker 3: And yeah, I mean those all those teams, were they
- 1:42:01Speaker 3: all they were all ready for that quarterback. No, but
- 1:42:03Speaker 3: even a chance at the you got to get the guy.
- 1:42:05Speaker 6: But so let's just say you're not ready and whatever.
- 1:42:07Speaker 6: I think we can all agree that the team is
- 1:42:09Speaker 6: probably not poised to make a run at the title.
- 1:42:13Speaker 6: I don't think that's bigg the game ill of the
- 1:42:15Speaker 6: current roster. But this notion that you ruin these guys,
- 1:42:22Speaker 6: like there's a litany of quarterback Like, why do we
- 1:42:25Speaker 6: automatically assume when Zach Wilson gets taken with the second
- 1:42:29Speaker 6: overall pick the Jets ruined him. Why can't it just
- 1:42:32Speaker 6: be that he wasn't that good? You know? When Jared
- 1:42:36Speaker 6: Goff went one overall to the Rams, one of the
- 1:42:40Speaker 6: worst teams that I've seen, right, one of the worst
- 1:42:43Speaker 6: teams I've seen. He gets in the starting lineup about
- 1:42:49Speaker 6: halfway through the season. I don't know if you remember
- 1:42:51Speaker 6: the game for you probably don't. No, no, no, no, because
- 1:42:56Speaker 6: it was no it was enough. I know, I know
- 1:42:58Speaker 6: nothing about the game, like I'm saying, because it was
- 1:43:01Speaker 6: a meaning I want to say maybe twenty sixteen was
- 1:43:05Speaker 6: that year that he came out. It was a meaningless
- 1:43:07Speaker 6: insignificant game among the back fred among the boring twelve
- 1:43:11Speaker 6: and four seasons that we have Poe credit, and he
- 1:43:15Speaker 6: just looked like a puppy in tallgrass, like he was
- 1:43:18Speaker 6: so overmatched. He went oh and seven as a starter,
- 1:43:20Speaker 6: I think his rookie year. They ruined him. Oh except
- 1:43:24Speaker 6: but they didn't ruin them like he was pretty good
- 1:43:26Speaker 6: and as the team got better, he got a little
- 1:43:28Speaker 6: bit better. And I'm not telling you he's Patrick Mahomes now,
- 1:43:31Speaker 6: but he's fine. They didn't ruin him, like you don't
- 1:43:35Speaker 6: have to take a guy who's going to fail right
- 1:43:37Speaker 6: away and that means you ruined him. Like I understand
- 1:43:41Speaker 6: that there's times where the team doesn't support the quarterback,
- 1:43:45Speaker 6: like Mac Jones. Can we just stop putting it all
- 1:43:48Speaker 6: in a team? Yeah? Can we give these guys some
- 1:43:51Speaker 6: of the responsibility for their own career whether or not
- 1:43:53Speaker 6: they succeed.
- 1:43:54Speaker 3: Do you think that some of this, though, is just
- 1:43:56Speaker 3: kind of a reaction to what we've been kind of
- 1:43:58Speaker 3: dealing with, specifically with the Patriots of the last couple
- 1:44:01Speaker 3: of years and the constant couple of years right about
- 1:44:05Speaker 3: not having the weapons, not having an you know, now
- 1:44:08Speaker 3: the protection has taken a bigger role than that. It's
- 1:44:11Speaker 3: just it feels a very specific Patriots thing to me,
- 1:44:13Speaker 3: because I don't think when you look at any of
- 1:44:14Speaker 3: these national guys, none of them are like they're not
- 1:44:16Speaker 3: ready yet. I mean, I at least not that I
- 1:44:18Speaker 3: hear it.
- 1:44:20Speaker 6: The pot that's a total national Yeah, I hear it. Yeah,
- 1:44:24Speaker 6: I don't. I don't understand it. I'm with you. I
- 1:44:26Speaker 6: just think it.
- 1:44:27Speaker 10: I think that if you I get that it's lofty.
- 1:44:30Speaker 10: But if you hit the draft out of the park,
- 1:44:32Speaker 10: a lot can change about what you think of the
- 1:44:34Speaker 10: team in six months from what we think about them now.
- 1:44:37Speaker 10: Like if you go into the draft and you draft
- 1:44:40Speaker 10: Jayden Daniels and then you draft a receiver in the
- 1:44:42Speaker 10: second round and then attack and like, all of a sudden,
- 1:44:44Speaker 10: the receiver is also a star because it's a great
- 1:44:46Speaker 10: receiver class. And now you have a star quarter young quarterback,
- 1:44:49Speaker 10: a star receiver. Now, all of a sudden, the offense
- 1:44:52Speaker 10: looks a little bit better. I think the defense was
- 1:44:54Speaker 10: already ready to compete last year. Like I just think
- 1:44:57Speaker 10: that you you can't just look at it as like
- 1:45:00Speaker 10: we're just adding the quarterback.
- 1:45:01Speaker 2: No, no, and your outlook can change.
- 1:45:03Speaker 9: But they're all still rookies, and it's unlikely that you know,
- 1:45:09Speaker 9: you're gonna see that worse the first type of thing.
- 1:45:12Speaker 6: You know, it's but you don't have to go worse
- 1:45:13Speaker 6: the first to feel like you're gonna feel excitement. No,
- 1:45:16Speaker 6: but you can feel totally differently about your personality. Yeah,
- 1:45:19Speaker 6: in six months now you go back to that email.
- 1:45:22Speaker 6: We had a few emails back about all the guys
- 1:45:25Speaker 6: who are up next year. Like if you all of
- 1:45:27Speaker 6: a sudden go out and you do what Evan said,
- 1:45:28Speaker 6: and you you know, you mildly like you know, what's
- 1:45:31Speaker 6: what's you know what's say you had a mild hit,
- 1:45:33Speaker 6: Like it's not like c. J. Stroud, we just won
- 1:45:36Speaker 6: eleven games and went to the playoffs. But you know,
- 1:45:38Speaker 6: but like you're pretty good right away. He's pretty good.
- 1:45:41Speaker 6: He's showing the ability and he's developing rapport with some
- 1:45:44Speaker 6: receiver who's pretty good. Maybe you take some of those
- 1:45:46Speaker 6: guys that you you know, well, maybe we don't need
- 1:45:49Speaker 6: Jonathan Jones. Oh, you were a little bit closer than
- 1:45:51Speaker 6: we thought. Maybe Jonathan Jones be a good, solid veteran
- 1:45:54Speaker 6: cornerback just sort of lead that group back there. Let's
- 1:45:57Speaker 6: get let's get him back here on a one year deal,
- 1:45:59Speaker 6: pay a little bit more money. Then maybe we wanted
- 1:46:01Speaker 6: to to do that. That maybe if you don't have
- 1:46:04Speaker 6: a quarterback, and you'll lose all these pieces and then
- 1:46:07Speaker 6: you're really starting over. Like I hear what.
- 1:46:10Speaker 10: People are saying about the roster, and the trade downs
- 1:46:13Speaker 10: are intriguing when you see, oh, you could get three
- 1:46:15Speaker 10: first round picks from Minnesota two this year. But I
- 1:46:18Speaker 10: just I keep coming back to, so when are you
- 1:46:20Speaker 10: going to and how are you going to address the quarterback?
- 1:46:22Speaker 10: Because I understand that there could be one quarterback that
- 1:46:26Speaker 10: comes out of nowhere next year, but that's one guy.
- 1:46:29Speaker 10: And if he goes one to one and you don't
- 1:46:31Speaker 10: have the first overall pick, then we're right back into it.
- 1:46:34Speaker 6: We're ready, we just don't have the right. Everybody immediately
- 1:46:36Speaker 6: hits back at you with, well, no one thought Jayden
- 1:46:39Speaker 6: Daniels was going to be a top five pick, and
- 1:46:42Speaker 6: no one thought Joe Burrow was going to be you know,
- 1:46:43Speaker 6: heading into that season. Yeah, it happens. How many of
- 1:46:48Speaker 6: them you can't count on it, no, no, But I'm just saying,
- 1:46:50Speaker 6: how many of those got So let's just say there's
- 1:46:52Speaker 6: a guy. Evan just said it. Guy comes out of
- 1:46:56Speaker 6: nowhere and he's the guy. What if you're not in
- 1:46:58Speaker 6: a position to pick the guy right, you know, And
- 1:47:03Speaker 6: let's face it, none of us wants to be in
- 1:47:04Speaker 6: the position to take the guy. We don't want to
- 1:47:06Speaker 6: be picking one again next year.
- 1:47:08Speaker 9: I just get the sense that some people think that
- 1:47:10Speaker 9: the Patriots can do whatever they want. They'll be able
- 1:47:13Speaker 9: to get If they don't get it this year, they'll
- 1:47:15Speaker 9: be able to get a quarterback next year.
- 1:47:17Speaker 2: There's thirty two other teams trying to improve every year,
- 1:47:20Speaker 2: and I would all looking at the same pool of players.
- 1:47:22Speaker 6: And if this is totally anecdotal, I don't have all
- 1:47:25Speaker 6: the numbers in front of me. You guys know that
- 1:47:27Speaker 6: I have done this in the past. I just don't
- 1:47:29Speaker 6: get the whole notion that it's way riskier to take
- 1:47:31Speaker 6: the quarterback than anybody else. There's like a laundry list
- 1:47:35Speaker 6: of guys that get overdrafted. Quarterbacks are high profile guys,
- 1:47:41Speaker 6: and a lot of quarterbacks bust because they get picked.
- 1:47:44Speaker 6: And I'll grant you that quarterbacks are probably more frequent
- 1:47:48Speaker 6: than the other spots, but there's a lot of guys
- 1:47:50Speaker 6: that get overdrafted at the other spots too, And I
- 1:47:53Speaker 6: don't know why, like the idea. If your thought process
- 1:47:56Speaker 6: is I'm gonna take tackle wide receiver because they are safer,
- 1:48:00Speaker 6: then you're wrong. You're wrong. They're not really safer. There's
- 1:48:04Speaker 6: just quarterbacks get overdrafted. There's no doubt about it. But
- 1:48:08Speaker 6: I don't think there's any safe pick to make. L
- 1:48:11Speaker 6: F otherwise everybody would.
- 1:48:12Speaker 2: Make it right.
- 1:48:13Speaker 9: L for Wisconsin writes in I have a non draft
- 1:48:16Speaker 9: related PFW argument topic. What major sport do you think
- 1:48:20Speaker 9: is the easiest to go undefeated in? And which is
- 1:48:23Speaker 9: the hardest. Football has by far the fewest number of games,
- 1:48:26Speaker 9: but I would think it is probably one of the
- 1:48:27Speaker 9: harder ones.
- 1:48:29Speaker 2: I don't know about that.
- 1:48:29Speaker 6: I think it's probably one of the easier the big
- 1:48:31Speaker 6: four sports. What's hard the hardest to go undefeated?
- 1:48:34Speaker 2: Yeah, the one with the fewest games.
- 1:48:35Speaker 6: It's football, Like, there's no other option, right, you're not
- 1:48:38Speaker 6: going to go eighty two.
- 1:48:39Speaker 9: Now if you include NCAA basketball, you know teams can
- 1:48:44Speaker 9: go undefeated there.
- 1:48:45Speaker 2: You know you're playing thirty games or whatever.
- 1:48:47Speaker 6: And oh and say, yeah, that happens a lot of sports.
- 1:48:51Speaker 6: It hasn't happened since seventy six. But it happens, you know,
- 1:48:54Speaker 6: But you can't go eighty two and oh or one
- 1:48:57Speaker 6: hundred and sixty two and.
- 1:48:58Speaker 9: Oh no, I mean the Celtics went forty one and
- 1:49:02Speaker 9: one at home.
- 1:49:04Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean basketball would be the closest you can
- 1:49:06Speaker 3: maybe make.
- 1:49:06Speaker 6: The lost twenty games that year, right, Yeah, the.
- 1:49:10Speaker 10: Warriors, was it seventy three and nine or seventy two
- 1:49:12Speaker 10: and ten or something like that's the best record of
- 1:49:14Speaker 10: all time, So they still lost nine games.
- 1:49:17Speaker 9: It's football, Yeah, even though it doesn't happen a lot,
- 1:49:20Speaker 9: it's it's still.
- 1:49:21Speaker 3: Football, and it's it's and it's I mean what you
- 1:49:24Speaker 3: like about bat I mean if basketball played the sixteen
- 1:49:26Speaker 3: game season, that will be it because it's five guys
- 1:49:28Speaker 3: essentially that can you know, kind of dominate the game.
- 1:49:30Speaker 2: But you have now it's like we haven't happened all
- 1:49:32Speaker 2: the time before.
- 1:49:33Speaker 3: Football is such an injury laden sport and you know
- 1:49:36Speaker 3: there's so many ups and downs from week to week.
- 1:49:39Speaker 6: They should shorten the basketball season.
- 1:49:41Speaker 3: They should twelve games.
- 1:49:43Speaker 6: Twelve games, shorten every season. I think I think that
- 1:49:45Speaker 6: including football, I think.
- 1:49:47Speaker 10: Sixty five is the right is the right number for
- 1:49:50Speaker 10: the NBA sixty five, sixty sixty.
- 1:49:52Speaker 6: Five, somewhere in there Baseball one hundred and forty one.
- 1:49:57Speaker 10: I don't need forty like it, even more like the
- 1:50:00Speaker 10: year for Baseball sixty fantastic, fantastic.
- 1:50:06Speaker 9: Brandon and Maine. I can't listen live, but your podcast
- 1:50:09Speaker 9: is by far the best and most entertaining of all
- 1:50:11Speaker 9: Patriots coverage.
- 1:50:12Speaker 2: I agreed, let's go.
- 1:50:14Speaker 9: I come to you now for help, particularly from that
- 1:50:17Speaker 9: wanna be scout Evan Lazarre. I've been hoping for Drake
- 1:50:21Speaker 9: May since around Week five, when it was clear how
- 1:50:24Speaker 9: bad this team was going to be and that map
- 1:50:26Speaker 9: was not long for the team. The more Draft season
- 1:50:28Speaker 9: has gone on, the more and more I have my
- 1:50:30Speaker 9: heart set on May and the belief that he is
- 1:50:33Speaker 9: exactly what we need. However, I am now convinced there
- 1:50:36Speaker 9: is no way he makes it past Washington at too.
- 1:50:39Speaker 9: I believe May is also the preference for all of you.
- 1:50:43Speaker 9: But now I ask you for help. Convince me that
- 1:50:46Speaker 9: when May is off the table, that Jaden Daniels is
- 1:50:49Speaker 9: worthy of being our franchise quarterback. Can you get excited
- 1:50:51Speaker 9: for this? Can you convince me and many others to
- 1:50:54Speaker 9: get excited about this? Can he be the guy in
- 1:50:57Speaker 9: New England?
- 1:50:58Speaker 6: Evan?
- 1:50:58Speaker 9: What do you see that leads you to believe he
- 1:51:00Speaker 9: can succeed in the NFL.
- 1:51:02Speaker 3: I want to hear this because I'm kind of in
- 1:51:04Speaker 3: the same role, So he.
- 1:51:05Speaker 10: Wants to want to be scouts opinion on it now?
- 1:51:07Speaker 6: Yeah, I think that's why he went to you.
- 1:51:11Speaker 10: Do you like watching Lamar Jackson play?
- 1:51:14Speaker 3: I like how he's starting off.
- 1:51:17Speaker 2: Close? Okay, so you really think.
- 1:51:19Speaker 10: I don't think he'll be I'm not saying that he's
- 1:51:21Speaker 10: selling it to be that, but if you're telling me
- 1:51:23Speaker 10: what's the upside and what's the like, how do you
- 1:51:25Speaker 10: see him developing into the guy.
- 1:51:27Speaker 6: In the NFL?
- 1:51:28Speaker 3: That's it.
- 1:51:29Speaker 10: It's Lamar Jackson, you know, Lamar Jackson. You know, look,
- 1:51:33Speaker 10: I think he plays a little bit more like an
- 1:51:36Speaker 10: RG three than he does like a Lamar Jackson. But
- 1:51:38Speaker 10: that's going back always for some people, So I just
- 1:51:41Speaker 10: would stick with Lamar.
- 1:51:42Speaker 2: Okay, that's it.
- 1:51:44Speaker 10: Lamar made it work as really his legs being the
- 1:51:47Speaker 10: dominant force.
- 1:51:48Speaker 2: Of his So that's his upside, that's his his feeling. Yep.
- 1:51:53Speaker 6: And then mahomes Lamar Jackson. Josh Allen Caleb Williams, Okay,
- 1:51:58Speaker 6: that's what I was going to ask. Ye, I agreed.
- 1:52:00Speaker 6: Now that's up, like, yeah, ceiling if they hit their
- 1:52:04Speaker 6: ceilings right.
- 1:52:05Speaker 9: Right, Nate Chicago, how would you feel if we traded
- 1:52:10Speaker 9: back with the Vikings for eleven to twenty three in
- 1:52:12Speaker 9: the future first and walked away with J. C. Latham,
- 1:52:15Speaker 9: Michael Pennix and Xavier Laguette after two days?
- 1:52:18Speaker 6: It's very specific, very good.
- 1:52:20Speaker 3: I feel okay about two thirds of it.
- 1:52:23Speaker 10: Yeah, Latham's the right tackle Son. We run it into
- 1:52:26Speaker 10: the whole issue of on winnu and this whole thing
- 1:52:28Speaker 10: going around and around and again who's play but you
- 1:52:31Speaker 10: know he's a good player. I would be a little
- 1:52:35Speaker 10: bit lukewarm on and overall though.
- 1:52:37Speaker 9: Here's a keep trade cut game summer football. Some aren't
- 1:52:43Speaker 9: so best running back wide receiver team duos of all time,
- 1:52:47Speaker 9: so you can keep trade or cut topics. Calvin Johnson,
- 1:52:52Speaker 9: Barry Sanders.
- 1:52:52Speaker 6: That's one duo, Keep trade cut.
- 1:52:55Speaker 10: Yeah, we didn't play together, so who is it?
- 1:52:59Speaker 9: He said, yeah, the only one. He's just matching.
- 1:53:06Speaker 6: I thought they meant they actually played. Now they can,
- 1:53:09Speaker 6: So what's the first group?
- 1:53:09Speaker 2: Calvin Johnson and Barry Sanders. That's one duo.
- 1:53:12Speaker 9: Jerry Rice and Frank Gore is another duo, and Michael
- 1:53:16Speaker 9: Irvin and Emmett Smith.
- 1:53:17Speaker 10: But that's the only one that actually played together.
- 1:53:19Speaker 2: I know.
- 1:53:20Speaker 3: I'd go with the first one.
- 1:53:21Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, me too. I think is the highest end talent.
- 1:53:24Speaker 2: So you keep them.
- 1:53:26Speaker 9: Oh and I would cut Frank Gore Yeah and Frank
- 1:53:30Speaker 9: or Yeah, Okay, I don't like this topic fan traditions.
- 1:53:34Speaker 6: I would rank them one, two, three.
- 1:53:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:53:36Speaker 6: Like I think the Sanders Johnson duo is the most talented.
- 1:53:40Speaker 6: I kind of agree with Evan. I like Frank Gore
- 1:53:42Speaker 6: a lot. I think he's a pros pro. I think
- 1:53:44Speaker 6: he's kind of a volumecumulator.
- 1:53:48Speaker 9: Uh, keep Trey cut. These are fan traditions. The Bill's
- 1:53:52Speaker 9: Mafia tailgates, lambeau Leap or the Terrible Towel.
- 1:53:56Speaker 6: Oh, this one's better.
- 1:53:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I like this one better.
- 1:54:00Speaker 6: I don't say the Terrible Towel will be the first one.
- 1:54:03Speaker 6: Keep lambeau Leap would be the second one. And I
- 1:54:05Speaker 6: agree with Evan, you can you can keep your shove
- 1:54:08Speaker 6: it up your tailgate. I don't need to be lighting
- 1:54:11Speaker 6: myself on fire.
- 1:54:13Speaker 9: Keep trade cut Pin and he's a football friend. Pin
- 1:54:18Speaker 9: and pull, hooking ladder, run and gun, pin and.
- 1:54:21Speaker 6: Pull all day every time. I don't know what the
- 1:54:23Speaker 6: running gun is, but you mean the run and shoot
- 1:54:27Speaker 6: could be.
- 1:54:28Speaker 2: Some people might call it the running guns you under.
- 1:54:32Speaker 6: Nobody ever called it running basketball more of a basketball term.
- 1:54:36Speaker 2: It's true.
- 1:54:37Speaker 6: He's right. Evan's right again. He's having a strong show again.
- 1:54:41Speaker 2: Hook and want to be scouts?
- 1:54:42Speaker 6: You want to be scout?
- 1:54:43Speaker 2: All right? Keep trade, Cameron Williams, Keep trade. Cut.
- 1:54:46Speaker 9: These are sports TV shows. Friday Night Lights, Ted Lasso
- 1:54:50Speaker 9: or Blue Mountain State.
- 1:54:52Speaker 10: Bloom Mountain Stake gets cut because that show is actually terrible.
- 1:54:54Speaker 6: You watch Friday Night Lights is one one Friday Night Lights.
- 1:54:58Speaker 10: It might be the best sports show of all times.
- 1:55:00Speaker 6: Are so good?
- 1:55:01Speaker 2: Alright.
- 1:55:01Speaker 6: The cast on that.
- 1:55:02Speaker 9: Show Rhode Island Delicacies, Dells Lemonade, Coffee Milk or Narrogast
- 1:55:08Speaker 9: Beer cut narroganst Beer would trade coffee milk, and I
- 1:55:14Speaker 9: would keep Dell's lemonade like.
- 1:55:18Speaker 6: A bud light Show.
- 1:55:20Speaker 9: And finally Wanka candy. No one's ever had not the
- 1:55:24Speaker 9: real gob Stoppers.
- 1:55:25Speaker 2: Nerds or Laughy Taffy.
- 1:55:27Speaker 6: I mean, Nerds are by far the best.
- 1:55:29Speaker 3: Cut laffy taffy, it sticks in your teeth.
- 1:55:31Speaker 6: Agreed, I would go gob stoppers over those. Those are
- 1:55:35Speaker 6: both nerds.
- 1:55:36Speaker 10: Nerds Rope also fantastic.
- 1:55:38Speaker 6: They're no surprise that the scout likes nerds.
- 1:55:42Speaker 3: Wow, that's what's your favorite? Strawberry?
- 1:55:47Speaker 6: And great?
- 1:55:47Speaker 3: I like get like the little box the double My
- 1:55:51Speaker 3: kids got them and they couldn't figure out how to
- 1:55:52Speaker 3: open it, and I felt like I failed it as
- 1:55:54Speaker 3: a dad like that, you can't, you know, like the
- 1:55:56Speaker 3: little slide out just ripped it.
- 1:56:00Speaker 9: Gary says, here is why people think it's best not
- 1:56:03Speaker 9: to trade a quarterback this year. I'm not espousing this
- 1:56:07Speaker 9: point of view, just explaining it. If you have a
- 1:56:09Speaker 9: porous o line, all the quarterback can develop is bad habits.
- 1:56:13Speaker 9: We saw it happen with Mac Jones, so it's fresh
- 1:56:16Speaker 9: in everybody's mind.
- 1:56:17Speaker 6: Did Joe Burrow develop? That happened with Joe Burrow? If
- 1:56:20Speaker 6: the guy can play, he can play, right, That's all
- 1:56:23Speaker 6: I'm saying, Like we put everything on everything around the guy. Like, Okay,
- 1:56:28Speaker 6: maybe you said he didn't get his potential maximized because
- 1:56:31Speaker 6: he had a poor offensive line. Might be David Carr
- 1:56:36Speaker 6: just stunk right, Oh, maybe David Carr.
- 1:56:38Speaker 3: Just stump he didn't have two elite wide receivers. I mean,
- 1:56:41Speaker 3: any team that's in position to draft these guys, they
- 1:56:44Speaker 3: probably have some major problems on offense, and you just
- 1:56:46Speaker 3: that doesn't mean you can, oh, well, we had a
- 1:56:49Speaker 3: chance to draft Peyton Manning, but our line is kind
- 1:56:50Speaker 3: of bad. So let's let's wait till next year.
- 1:56:52Speaker 10: And yeah, I could be totally wrong in this and
- 1:56:54Speaker 10: not this is probably a bigger discussion, but I am
- 1:56:57Speaker 10: kind of getting the feeling that maybe they feel like
- 1:57:00Speaker 10: they're better on the offensive line than everybody else does.
- 1:57:03Speaker 3: Oh no, not that again.
- 1:57:04Speaker 6: I don't think question that they feel like they have
- 1:57:07Speaker 6: better top to bottom than everybody else.
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:57:09Speaker 10: I just feel like on the offensive line in particular,
- 1:57:12Speaker 10: I feel like they think that they're gonna be schematically
- 1:57:15Speaker 10: a lot different. That they're new quarterback isn't going to
- 1:57:18Speaker 10: just be sitting in the pocket all the time and
- 1:57:20Speaker 10: ask throw.
- 1:57:21Speaker 6: That's probably true, but I don't think they were asking
- 1:57:23Speaker 6: Mac Jones to sit in the pocket for a long time.
- 1:57:25Speaker 10: No, I'm just saying, right, But I'm also just saying
- 1:57:29Speaker 10: I guess with the moving pockets, the bootlegs, the play
- 1:57:32Speaker 10: action passes, like I don't know. I think you're gonna they're
- 1:57:34Speaker 10: gonna want to be like a high volume, straight drop
- 1:57:37Speaker 10: back team.
- 1:57:38Speaker 6: Moving the pocket. I guess yeah.
- 1:57:39Speaker 10: And then the other thing is is I think that
- 1:57:41Speaker 10: they like the coaching, like I think they think Peters
- 1:57:44Speaker 10: and uh in a VP, and these guys are gonna
- 1:57:47Speaker 10: be able to coach it a little bit better than
- 1:57:48Speaker 10: what frightens.
- 1:57:49Speaker 6: Me about the the overall talent level on the offensive line.
- 1:57:54Speaker 10: Like I'm not saying that it's they're not going to
- 1:57:55Speaker 10: take a tackle at all. No, I don't know if
- 1:57:58Speaker 10: they're looking at tackle as really in the conversation with
- 1:58:02Speaker 10: the third overall pick like Joe Walt is really in
- 1:58:05Speaker 10: the conversation with that pick, I would doubt it.
- 1:58:07Speaker 9: I agree Aj in the Bay Area, but from Providence,
- 1:58:11Speaker 9: I'm tired of hearing about the Patriots not being ready
- 1:58:13Speaker 9: for the quarterback and that kicking the can down the
- 1:58:16Speaker 9: road makes sense. They were arguably the second worst team
- 1:58:19Speaker 9: in the league last season and still might have to
- 1:58:21Speaker 9: settle for the third choice of quarterbacks. When are they
- 1:58:24Speaker 9: going to be picking this high again? It's nonsense. Take
- 1:58:27Speaker 9: the quarterback.
- 1:58:28Speaker 3: There you go.
- 1:58:29Speaker 2: Love it all right.
- 1:58:31Speaker 9: That's going to be it for this edition of Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:58:34Speaker 9: We'll be back tomorrow. Is there a draft show dropping?
- 1:58:38Speaker 3: There will be another draft show dropping tomorrow. Film review
- 1:58:41Speaker 3: of Drake May so you'll want to tune in.
- 1:58:44Speaker 2: Okay, we like him all right. Talk to you on Thursday.
