- 0:30Speaker 1: I am glued to the hockey playoffs. I keep telling
- 0:32Speaker 1: you guys, especially these late games. They're keeping me up late.
- 0:35Speaker 1: They really are. Kenny Albert is with us. He is
- 0:37Speaker 1: calling the Anaheim Vegas series for T and T Sports,
- 0:42Speaker 1: T at Hockey.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Kenny always nice enough to join us here. He's in Vegas.
- 0:46Speaker 1: He is a day off in Vegas, very dangerous game,
- 0:48Speaker 1: a day off in Las Vegas, Kenny Albert.
- 0:52Speaker 3: It's unusual to have a day off in Vegas. Normally
- 0:54Speaker 3: I'm on a red eye after the game, heading to
- 0:56Speaker 3: the next city. But our next game is not until
- 0:59Speaker 3: Saturday in Minnesota. We're actually switching over to the Minnesota
- 1:02Speaker 3: Colorado series. So an extra day here in Vegas and
- 1:07Speaker 3: nothing I would rather be doing than chatting with you.
- 1:09Speaker 2: So what do you plan on getting into today? Anything?
- 1:14Speaker 2: Anything fun?
- 1:15Speaker 4: A little pool time later with Brian Bouchet.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Nice, yes, and then Eddie Olzek is staying at a
- 1:22Speaker 3: different hotel about twenty minutes from where we are, So
- 1:27Speaker 3: very nice of Eddie inviting us to dinner tonight, So
- 1:30Speaker 3: it'll be a combination of pool time with Bouche and
- 1:33Speaker 3: then all of us having dinner with Eddio.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Right, does Eddie know he's paying for dinner or not, Mike.
- 1:37Speaker 3: I mean, Eddie is always so gracious, So I know
- 1:43Speaker 3: he had a good day at the derby on Saturday,
- 1:45Speaker 3: So that certainly could be the case.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Eddie is into the horses. Has he stopped talking about
- 1:49Speaker 1: the derby since Saturday?
- 1:52Speaker 3: We saw him Sunday because he joined us in Tampa
- 1:55Speaker 3: for Game seven of Montreal and Tampa Bay this past Sunday.
- 2:00Speaker 3: He had a permanent smile on his face the entire day.
- 2:02Speaker 2: That is so great, Kenny.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Before we get to hockey and Vegas and we have
- 2:07Speaker 1: a game for you at the end. Here, you and
- 2:09Speaker 1: I have known each other for a long time, and
- 2:12Speaker 1: if you could articulate, because the Knicks are going through
- 2:14Speaker 1: it right now and New York is very excited, and you,
- 2:17Speaker 1: of course have a history with the New York Knicks,
- 2:19Speaker 1: and I believe you're a fan of the New York Knicks.
- 2:21Speaker 1: What it would mean to that city and that fan
- 2:24Speaker 1: base if the Knicks were able to pull this off
- 2:26Speaker 1: and win an NBA title.
- 2:28Speaker 3: Well, first of all, yes, you were pretty much in
- 2:30Speaker 3: diapers when we first met, yes, back in the late
- 2:34Speaker 3: nineteen seventies.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Yes, it's odd that we use guest bookers to get
- 2:36Speaker 1: this done. I mean I texted you right after the
- 2:38Speaker 1: USA Canada game.
- 2:39Speaker 2: You came right on.
- 2:40Speaker 4: I mean, all right, what's going on here?
- 2:42Speaker 3: You know you must be getting way too big having
- 2:45Speaker 3: other people text for you now. But as far as
- 2:48Speaker 3: the Knicks, yes, grew up a Knicks fan, and I
- 2:52Speaker 3: was a little young to remember the seventy and seventy
- 2:54Speaker 3: three championships, vaguely remember some stuff from that seventy two
- 2:59Speaker 3: to seventy three season, and had the great opportunity over
- 3:03Speaker 3: the last fifteen years or so to call about fifteen
- 3:06Speaker 3: NIX games a year with the great Clyde Frasier. Not
- 3:10Speaker 3: as involved this year because of the move from radio
- 3:13Speaker 3: to television on the Rangers side, and most of the
- 3:16Speaker 3: games are on the same dates, but called a lot
- 3:20Speaker 3: of the games involving this group the last three or
- 3:22Speaker 3: four years, and it's just so much fun to watch
- 3:24Speaker 3: from afar. I was keeping it high on the score
- 3:27Speaker 3: last night while I was out here in Vegas about to.
- 3:29Speaker 4: Call a game.
- 3:31Speaker 3: But you know, you look at some of the moves
- 3:32Speaker 3: they've made over the last three, four or five years,
- 3:35Speaker 3: bringing in Jalen Brunson and trading for Karl Anthony Towns,
- 3:38Speaker 3: trading for og Anobi, trading for Josh Hart. They put
- 3:42Speaker 3: a team together that's certainly right now. Are one of
- 3:45Speaker 3: the favorites to go all the way and they have
- 3:47Speaker 3: a two nothing lead over Philly. Made it all the
- 3:49Speaker 3: way to the conference finals last year at the disappointing ending,
- 3:53Speaker 3: of course, but it was a great run. So this
- 3:56Speaker 3: year watching from afar, Like I said, my daughter was
- 3:59Speaker 3: at the game last night, so she was giving me
- 4:01Speaker 3: reports and updates.
- 4:02Speaker 4: But it's great to watch.
- 4:04Speaker 3: There's nothing like the atmosphere at the Garden during a
- 4:06Speaker 3: NIXRA Rangers playoff run.
- 4:08Speaker 5: So then, Kenny, I feel like you're the perfect person
- 4:10Speaker 5: to settle a debate for us, because we were having
- 4:13Speaker 5: a conversation I believe yesterday about was it the most
- 4:16Speaker 5: popular nick ever?
- 4:18Speaker 2: Taylor, Yeah, it was.
- 4:20Speaker 6: It was one table, like who would get a table
- 4:22Speaker 6: if there was one table at a New York restaurant
- 4:25Speaker 6: and they walked in at the same time.
- 4:26Speaker 5: And as somebody who has, as you said, vague memories
- 4:29Speaker 5: of the championship and but lived obviously right after it,
- 4:32Speaker 5: and all the adoration that all those players got, I
- 4:34Speaker 5: think you're a perfect example, a perfect person to give
- 4:37Speaker 5: us this final answer, and you decide who were the
- 4:40Speaker 5: two people?
- 4:41Speaker 2: Though, Well, we got.
- 4:42Speaker 3: Great team back in the seventies with they were the
- 4:46Speaker 3: epitome of a team with the busher Bradley, Fraser, Monroe,
- 4:50Speaker 3: then off the bench Phil Jackson, Dick Barnetty and Mevenger.
- 4:53Speaker 4: I'll give you a great story.
- 4:55Speaker 3: So I've worked about three hundred games with Clyde Fraser
- 4:59Speaker 3: through the year, the Hall of Famer, times two Hall
- 5:02Speaker 3: of Famer as a player, Hall of Famer as a broadcaster.
- 5:04Speaker 3: I'm working a game with him about eight ten years ago,
- 5:08Speaker 3: and Patrick Ewing is an assistant coach at the time
- 5:12Speaker 3: with either Orlando or Charlotte. So he's on the bench
- 5:15Speaker 3: and Willis Reid's at the game, sitting in the VIP
- 5:18Speaker 3: seats in the front row. So our production crew, Spencer
- 5:24Speaker 3: Julian also, you know, I knew you when you were
- 5:28Speaker 3: five years old. I knew Spencer when he was five
- 5:30Speaker 3: growing up around the corner for me as well. Spencer
- 5:33Speaker 3: the producer of Knicks Basketball and Howie Singers the tremendous
- 5:38Speaker 3: director for forty years.
- 5:40Speaker 4: So they put a shot up.
- 5:41Speaker 3: You know, we're doing the game, and all of a sudden,
- 5:43Speaker 3: during a break in the action, they show Patrick Ewing
- 5:47Speaker 3: and then they show Willis Reid. We identify both of them,
- 5:50Speaker 3: although Nick fans obviously know who they are, and without
- 5:53Speaker 3: missing a beat, Clyde says on the air, it's great
- 5:56Speaker 3: to see the second and third greatest knicks of all times.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Okay, so Frazer's number one, then.
- 6:04Speaker 3: If you ask him, no, I mean, I think you
- 6:07Speaker 3: have to put him at the top of the list.
- 6:09Speaker 3: Right you look at the game seven, referred to as
- 6:12Speaker 3: the Willis Reed game, but Clyde had thirty six points,
- 6:15Speaker 3: nineteen assists, and seven rebounds in that game when they
- 6:18Speaker 3: won their first championship. If they win the championship this year,
- 6:23Speaker 3: you know, I think certainly you have to add Jalen
- 6:25Speaker 3: Brunson into the conversation. But those Nick teams with Clyde
- 6:29Speaker 3: won the two championships. Patrick Ewling unbelievable. I mean, he
- 6:33Speaker 3: has to be right there at the top of the
- 6:34Speaker 3: list with Clyde as well, when you look at the
- 6:36Speaker 3: career he had unfortunately didn't win a title, did win
- 6:40Speaker 3: in college with Georgetown, But there's a great argument to
- 6:44Speaker 3: be made. You know, it's everybody could have their own opinion,
- 6:47Speaker 3: but I thought that line from Clyde was just brilliant.
- 6:49Speaker 3: Great to see the second and third greatest Nicks of
- 6:51Speaker 3: all time in the building.
- 6:52Speaker 2: I know, fantastic, and I promise we'll get to hockey.
- 6:55Speaker 1: But if Brunton pulls this off and wins the title, okay,
- 6:58Speaker 1: for the Knicks who are starving basis starving for an
- 7:01Speaker 1: NBA championship, will he automatically become the most popular Knick
- 7:05Speaker 1: in Knick's history.
- 7:08Speaker 3: For this generation, I'm sure yes. I think those old
- 7:11Speaker 3: enough to remember Clyde and Willis Reed and all those
- 7:15Speaker 3: players from the seventy and seventy three teams, you know
- 7:18Speaker 3: they did win two titles, and they were going up
- 7:21Speaker 3: against some of the all time great teams, right the
- 7:23Speaker 3: Celtics and the Lakers back then with with with Bill
- 7:26Speaker 3: Russell and Jerry West. You know, they had to get
- 7:28Speaker 3: by those teams in the playoffs. So for the current generation, yes,
- 7:32Speaker 3: I'm sure he would move to the top of the list.
- 7:34Speaker 3: For those who don't remember those players from the early
- 7:38Speaker 3: seventies and never saw them play.
- 7:39Speaker 6: Yeah, Stu, I'll go one step further. Jalen Brunson would
- 7:42Speaker 6: be the best free agent signing in NBA history. Maybe
- 7:45Speaker 6: Kenny I was trying to explain this Jack was a
- 7:47Speaker 6: free agent sign I mean, if you bring a title
- 7:51Speaker 6: to New York, it's bigger. But Kenny I was trying
- 7:53Speaker 6: to explain to Stu Gotts that if you played for
- 7:56Speaker 6: the Knicks, you're gonna get the biggest pop in the building.
- 7:58Speaker 6: Like if Tim to miss and the Rock are at
- 8:01Speaker 6: the game and they show both people on the jumbo tron,
- 8:05Speaker 6: do you agree that Tim Thomas gets a louder applause?
- 8:07Speaker 2: No? No, no, no.
- 8:09Speaker 4: I think it would be pretty close.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean that's still a victory for you.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Tell me some of the celebrities that go to the
- 8:16Speaker 3: Knicks games. And you know, Ben Stiller is a Knick
- 8:20Speaker 3: super fan, and you know we see Spike Lee at
- 8:24Speaker 3: every game, and Chris Rock and Tracy Morgan. But now
- 8:27Speaker 3: you're getting getting some others as well. I actually sat
- 8:31Speaker 3: when I was calling a game in twenty fourteen, Taylor
- 8:33Speaker 3: Swift was two seats to my left. She was in
- 8:35Speaker 3: that first celebrity seats. He actually sang at halftime. So
- 8:40Speaker 3: Howard Stern used to be there all the time. So
- 8:41Speaker 3: I've seen some pretty big names when I was calling
- 8:44Speaker 3: the games. You know, you mentioned Bronson and Willie be
- 8:47Speaker 3: the greatest free agent signing if they win the championship.
- 8:50Speaker 3: I sort of equated it to Mark Messier. Now that
- 8:53Speaker 3: was a trade. He wasn't a free agent. Rangers orchestrated
- 8:57Speaker 3: that trade with ironically, Glenn Saylor, who was then in
- 9:00Speaker 3: Edmonton and later became the Rangers general manager. But the
- 9:04Speaker 3: Rangers hadn't won in fifty four years. It was fifty
- 9:07Speaker 3: two when they acquired fifty one to fifty two years
- 9:09Speaker 3: when they acquired Messier, and he led them to the
- 9:12Speaker 3: Stanley Cup a couple of years later. So I think
- 9:15Speaker 3: it would be kind of similar as far as the
- 9:17Speaker 3: transaction that led to the championship. When you look at
- 9:20Speaker 3: what Messier did bringing the Rangers the first Cup in
- 9:23Speaker 3: fifty four years back in ninety.
- 9:24Speaker 2: Four, one table in New York City.
- 9:26Speaker 1: Messia or Wayne Gretzky, who gets it?
- 9:30Speaker 4: I love Wayne.
- 9:31Speaker 3: He's one of my favorite people, one of the greatest
- 9:34Speaker 3: athletes of all time, and he did play for the
- 9:36Speaker 3: Rangers for three years.
- 9:38Speaker 4: I think would tell you, I think a great one.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Gets what if I took this game outside of New York.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Does Gretzky get it in every other state?
- 9:47Speaker 2: Probably? Right?
- 9:48Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah, I would think so.
- 9:49Speaker 3: I mean probably not in Pennsylvania. That would be sitting
- 9:52Speaker 3: across or Bobby Clark in Philadelphia. But Wayne would get
- 9:57Speaker 3: it in most in most cities. I'm sure Jak Hughes
- 10:00Speaker 3: gets it this year after the winning goal.
- 10:03Speaker 1: I think Jack Eughes gets it everywhere. I think Kenny's
- 10:06Speaker 1: right about that. Who's the best team in hockey? Kenny,
- 10:20Speaker 1: I think it's Carolina.
- 10:21Speaker 2: What do you say?
- 10:23Speaker 3: You know, I think most people would say Colorado or Carolina. Colorado,
- 10:28Speaker 3: certainly during the regular season, they win the President's Trophy
- 10:32Speaker 3: best record in the NHL during the regular season, and
- 10:35Speaker 3: when you look at the years that Nathan McKinnon and
- 10:38Speaker 3: cal mccarrh had, Marty Natus had one hundred points season.
- 10:42Speaker 3: Carolina the style they play, They're in your face. They
- 10:46Speaker 3: throw the puck towards the net from everywhere. Rod Brinda
- 10:49Speaker 3: Moore a tremendous coach. You know, they sort of are
- 10:51Speaker 3: the epitome of their head coach. And the last four
- 10:54Speaker 3: years they haven't been able to get by Florida and
- 10:56Speaker 3: the Rangers. Those are the teams that have beaten them
- 10:59Speaker 3: in the playoffs Florida twice in the conference final, Rangers
- 11:02Speaker 3: in a conference final and in a second round, or
- 11:06Speaker 3: i should say the Rangers in a couple of second rounds.
- 11:10Speaker 3: But this year they don't have to contend with those
- 11:12Speaker 3: two teams, so could this be their year? They have
- 11:14Speaker 3: a two to nothing lead on Philadelphia, Montreal Buffalo certainly
- 11:18Speaker 3: an exciting series on the other side, and those teams
- 11:20Speaker 3: want something to say about it. In the East, I'm
- 11:24Speaker 3: here in Vegas and Anaheim impressed a lot of people
- 11:26Speaker 3: last night with their winning Game two over the Golden Nights.
- 11:29Speaker 3: So a really a great first round with record setting
- 11:34Speaker 3: ratings on the TV side. I think the carryover from
- 11:37Speaker 3: the Olympics definitely plays a big part in that. We
- 11:41Speaker 3: had some great rivalries in the first round. Pittsburgh and Philly,
- 11:45Speaker 3: they had both missed the playoffs for a number of years.
- 11:47Speaker 3: You had Minnesota in Dallas, the Tampa Bay Montreal series
- 11:50Speaker 3: was outstanding, Vegas Utah was a lot of fun. Anaheim
- 11:54Speaker 3: getting by Edmonton, so I had the opportunity to work
- 11:58Speaker 3: three different series in the first Vegas Anaheim last Night, Minnesota,
- 12:02Speaker 3: Colorado Saturday, so a lot of fun bouncing around and
- 12:06Speaker 3: being involved in so many of the different series.
- 12:08Speaker 5: Can you have a big Panthers fan and so you know,
- 12:11Speaker 5: you're welcome to the rest of these teams who can
- 12:12Speaker 5: actually win something this year. But I've got a couple
- 12:15Speaker 5: of friends who are huge Sabers fans, and they've been
- 12:18Speaker 5: asking me the last three years. They're like, man, we're
- 12:20Speaker 5: just looking for reasons to switch fandoms because I'm so
- 12:22Speaker 5: tired of Buffalo. But this year they're ridiculously excited. I'm curious,
- 12:27Speaker 5: is this North America's team, because there's an other couple
- 12:30Speaker 5: of her candidates right like Montreal's up there, probably the
- 12:32Speaker 5: Ducks are up there, but it feels like most people
- 12:34Speaker 5: want to embrace this Buffalo team.
- 12:37Speaker 3: Well, we have a lot of new blood right in
- 12:38Speaker 3: the second round. The teams you just mentioned, Buffalo hadn't
- 12:41Speaker 3: been in the playoffs in fourteen years, Anaheim hadn't been
- 12:44Speaker 3: in the playoffs they missed the last seven years. Minnesota
- 12:47Speaker 3: hadn't won a series since twenty fifteen. Montreal did go
- 12:51Speaker 3: to the final in twenty one, but hadn't had as
- 12:54Speaker 3: much success since. So it's fun to watch some of
- 12:57Speaker 3: these teams play the Philadelphia. You know, they get to
- 13:00Speaker 3: the second round. A lot of people in early March
- 13:03Speaker 3: had them written off. There were nine points out after
- 13:05Speaker 3: sixty games. So it's fun to see a lot of
- 13:07Speaker 3: these teams that haven't been playoff teams in recent years
- 13:11Speaker 3: still alive. And as far as Buffalo goes, I was
- 13:13Speaker 3: up there for the last regular season game, and that's
- 13:16Speaker 3: always been a great sports down, a great hockey city.
- 13:19Speaker 3: They made it to the Cup final, most recently in
- 13:22Speaker 3: nineteen ninety nine. You know, obviously the Brett Hole controversial
- 13:25Speaker 3: goal and missing it. For the last fourteen they've gone
- 13:28Speaker 3: through a lot of coaches, a lot of general managers,
- 13:30Speaker 3: but it's been a slow build over the last four years,
- 13:33Speaker 3: and this year they go on the incredible run in
- 13:35Speaker 3: the second half of the season.
- 13:36Speaker 4: So whichever team advances.
- 13:38Speaker 3: Whether it's Buffalo or Montreal, out of that series, crazy
- 13:42Speaker 3: atmospheres in both buildings. I was in Montreal for Game
- 13:45Speaker 3: three against Tampa Bay and it looked like it was
- 13:48Speaker 3: unbelievable up in Buffalo last night. So happy for those
- 13:51Speaker 3: fans that franchise.
- 13:52Speaker 4: It's been a long time, Kenny.
- 13:53Speaker 6: One of the teams out already, the Edmonton Oilers with
- 13:56Speaker 6: Connor McDavid. What do you think the chances are Conor
- 13:59Speaker 6: McDavid isn't on the Oilers by the start of next season.
- 14:02Speaker 4: Crazy.
- 14:04Speaker 3: I think you have to look at it as a possibility,
- 14:07Speaker 3: you know, I know he has two years left on
- 14:08Speaker 3: his deal. I saw the comments for both McDavid and
- 14:12Speaker 3: Drycidle on the breakup day and the frustrations they came
- 14:15Speaker 3: so close the last two years, getting to Game seven
- 14:19Speaker 3: of the final against Florida, Game six against Florida and
- 14:23Speaker 3: then to lose in the first round this year, and
- 14:25Speaker 3: McDavid obviously had a huge injury. You know, the fact
- 14:28Speaker 3: that he even played through it is incredible, as hockey
- 14:30Speaker 3: players usually do.
- 14:32Speaker 4: But you know, there are.
- 14:33Speaker 3: Three players north of the border, and there's been a
- 14:36Speaker 3: lot of talk on how long they'll remain with their
- 14:38Speaker 3: respective teams. One is Connor McDavid, one is Austin Matthews,
- 14:42Speaker 3: and one is Brady Kuchuck. They all still have term
- 14:45Speaker 3: on their contracts, but it'll be fascinating how it all
- 14:48Speaker 3: plays out, whether this summer or over the next two
- 14:51Speaker 3: or three years.
- 14:52Speaker 1: I am fascinated by Kenny Albert in Las Vegas. Have
- 14:55Speaker 1: you hit a buffet yet did you go to the buffet?
- 14:57Speaker 1: Those aren't as popular as they used to be.
- 14:59Speaker 3: Well, a excellent restaurant called Noodles, which I've already been
- 15:04Speaker 3: to twice.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Yes.
- 15:05Speaker 3: Here in the hotel that we're staying in. Today's plan
- 15:09Speaker 3: is a lot of pool time with Brian Bouchet in
- 15:11Speaker 3: the afternoon. I have a couple couple of commitments after this,
- 15:15Speaker 3: but we'll be out at the pool and then Eddie
- 15:17Speaker 3: Oh has a favorite hotel here in Vegas that he
- 15:21Speaker 3: actually mentioned on the air last night at the end
- 15:22Speaker 3: of the game that he likes to stay at. It's
- 15:25Speaker 3: about twenty twenty five minutes from the strip, and he
- 15:27Speaker 3: was very gracious to invite us over to dinner tonight.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Yes, yes, that's the plan.
- 15:31Speaker 4: Pool time with Boosh and then all of us having
- 15:33Speaker 4: dinner with Eddio.
- 15:34Speaker 1: And he does that have to get a caught, right,
- 15:35Speaker 1: he has to do that, right, that's smart.
- 15:37Speaker 2: But he he play.
- 15:38Speaker 3: I mean, he loves Vegas, you know, he loves watching
- 15:41Speaker 3: the horses and uh, you know loves his steak.
- 15:44Speaker 4: Eddie and I well done steak both of us on
- 15:47Speaker 4: the show.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Oh wow, you didn't have to admit that. Wow.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Yeah, Kenny had feel occupied, right, Yes, well we have
- 15:56Speaker 1: a game for you in that vein Albert or Falbert
- 15:58Speaker 1: and just listen. I came up with it on the drive.
- 16:03Speaker 1: But I am wondering, what is the game of choice?
- 16:05Speaker 1: If Kenny's gonna walk into the casino today, what are
- 16:08Speaker 1: we playing?
- 16:08Speaker 2: Is it Blackjack? Is it craps? What are you doing?
- 16:11Speaker 3: You know, it's funny someone asked me that yesterday. To
- 16:13Speaker 3: be honest, I'm not really a casino person. I know
- 16:16Speaker 3: nothing about how to play any of those games. I
- 16:19Speaker 3: did walk through earlier, just taking the stroll through the hotel,
- 16:23Speaker 3: and I was I like the people watching, But of
- 16:27Speaker 3: all the times I've been in Vegas, I've never really participated.
- 16:31Speaker 4: I'm just really a casino person.
- 16:33Speaker 5: Can you got to look up? Just go to YouTube,
- 16:34Speaker 5: look up how to play craps? Find you know a few,
- 16:37Speaker 5: go to type of bets, and then just hit that table.
- 16:40Speaker 4: That's so much.
- 16:40Speaker 3: No, it's amazing to look at all the different variations
- 16:43Speaker 3: the video games. A few years ago, I was here
- 16:46Speaker 3: watching a colleague of mine for about two hours at
- 16:48Speaker 3: one of the tables and just fascinated what goes on.
- 16:50Speaker 3: It was I think for me just the people watching
- 16:53Speaker 3: is is?
- 16:54Speaker 4: Is?
- 16:55Speaker 3: You know what gets me excited as opposed to actually participating?
- 16:59Speaker 1: How do you feel I know you don't play much,
- 17:01Speaker 1: But a guy who sits at the end of a
- 17:02Speaker 1: blackjack table and doesn't care about the rest of the
- 17:05Speaker 1: table and just goes with his gut, how do you
- 17:07Speaker 1: feel about it?
- 17:07Speaker 2: Him?
- 17:08Speaker 4: He's focused? Right y fucking professional athlete is so zoned in.
- 17:14Speaker 4: He's focused.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Mikey is so mad at me because I took half
- 17:18Speaker 1: his questions? Well, just ask good normal questions. Go ahead,
- 17:22Speaker 1: Still need the name of this game explained to me?
- 17:24Speaker 2: So, Kenny, Albert his last name is Albert? Is he okay?
- 17:27Speaker 1: Albert means he agrees with Mikey. A Falbert means he
- 17:31Speaker 1: does not agree with.
- 17:33Speaker 2: Mike foul not foul foul? Yes? Yes, uh go ahead, Mikey.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Do you have Do you have a couple of for him?
- 17:41Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 17:41Speaker 7: I got a couple other than the ones you already
- 17:44Speaker 7: stole from me, like well and anchoring the blackjack table,
- 17:48Speaker 7: which were literally said to you three minutes before you
- 17:51Speaker 7: asked it.
- 17:52Speaker 4: Okay, Kenny, how about this? Albert or Falbert?
- 17:55Speaker 7: What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.
- 17:59Speaker 3: Uh uh, I mean I've heard that term for for
- 18:03Speaker 3: so many years.
- 18:04Speaker 4: So I'll have to go with Albert.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Well, he already told us what's gonna happen in Vegas?
- 18:11Speaker 4: What kind of snap Eddie and I are getting today?
- 18:16Speaker 4: And I'm sticking with it.
- 18:17Speaker 1: Okay, Now he's struggling, mikey, are you struggling to find
- 18:19Speaker 1: more questions?
- 18:20Speaker 4: You have?
- 18:21Speaker 2: More?
- 18:21Speaker 4: Got plenty? I got plenty?
- 18:23Speaker 2: Go ahead, all right, Albert or Falbert? Red eye flights? O?
- 18:27Speaker 3: Good one, Albert, because I do take about I mean,
- 18:33Speaker 3: I'm not saying I enjoy them.
- 18:34Speaker 4: I'd rather if I could help it.
- 18:37Speaker 3: But due to my jimsaw puzzle of the schedule, I'm
- 18:40Speaker 3: probably on about six to eight red eye flights every year.
- 18:43Speaker 3: And uh it is better in my opinion, than wasting
- 18:47Speaker 3: the entire next day.
- 18:49Speaker 4: You know, you get them at six am.
- 18:50Speaker 3: Sleep for a couple hours, as opposed to staying over
- 18:53Speaker 3: and then not getting home till five or six at night.
- 18:55Speaker 7: All right, you're about to head up to the pool,
- 18:57Speaker 7: So Albert or Falbert peeing in the pool?
- 19:00Speaker 6: Wow?
- 19:03Speaker 4: Not always? But we had a great cool day last
- 19:07Speaker 4: year during the playoffs.
- 19:08Speaker 3: That was with a couple of my other colleagues, So
- 19:14Speaker 3: not all the time, but occasionally definitely, Albert, Albert.
- 19:19Speaker 2: Or Falbert, I have one here.
- 19:20Speaker 1: People who lay their towels down four hours before they
- 19:23Speaker 1: sit in the actual chairs. How about that, Albert. Yeah, yeah,
- 19:27Speaker 1: it's terrible. It's selfish, yes, yes, but Kenny's done it.
- 19:32Speaker 6: I think I've actually only been to Vegas two times,
- 19:35Speaker 6: but the first time I went was in two thousand
- 19:37Speaker 6: and three and we were staying at the Mirage and
- 19:39Speaker 6: the night we got there was the night of the
- 19:41Speaker 6: Zigfried and Roy tiger attack. Oh well, kind of ruined
- 19:44Speaker 6: the rest of the vacation.
- 19:47Speaker 2: It was there a question there for Kenny. It was
- 19:49Speaker 2: a brag.
- 19:52Speaker 3: But no question one the one of the most fun
- 19:55Speaker 3: nights in Vegas. My sister works with David Blaine. Oh wow,
- 19:58Speaker 3: so into a number of his shows and it's just incredible.
- 20:02Speaker 3: And I took the entire uh, most of those, most
- 20:06Speaker 3: of the folks on our NHL on TNT crew. We
- 20:08Speaker 3: were here for the Stanley Cup Final in twenty twenty three.
- 20:11Speaker 3: Nice and it was it was Eddie Olchak, Keith Jones,
- 20:15Speaker 3: Hendrik Lundquist, Paul Bissonett. I know I'm forgetting some of
- 20:20Speaker 3: the others who were there, Anson Carter right on down
- 20:23Speaker 3: the line. Most of the crew was with us, and
- 20:26Speaker 3: we went backstage and had sort of a private show
- 20:28Speaker 3: for about twenty minutes. So that that was definitely one
- 20:30Speaker 3: of the more memorable nights that we've had in Vegas.
- 20:32Speaker 4: It was great.
- 20:33Speaker 2: Your sister knows all the secrets? Then, yes, yes, yes.
- 20:36Speaker 1: I'll tell me there are no secrets, right, imagine correct secrets.
- 20:40Speaker 2: What are you talking about?
- 20:41Speaker 4: That beat? What are you telling about?
- 20:42Speaker 2: All right? One more from Mikey here. We'll let you
- 20:44Speaker 2: get to the pool with boucheead oh.
- 20:46Speaker 4: Boy on all right? Hours ago.
- 20:54Speaker 7: Albert or falbert Os the Mentalist.
- 20:57Speaker 2: Oh wow, good one.
- 21:00Speaker 4: Albert.
- 21:01Speaker 3: I saw him well before he was nearly as popular
- 21:05Speaker 3: as he is now. He was at a function I
- 21:09Speaker 3: worked the world feet of the super Bowl in Indianapolis,
- 21:13Speaker 3: super Bowl forty six, and he did a little, you know,
- 21:17Speaker 3: almost a private act for about ten or fifteen minutes.
- 21:21Speaker 3: My wife and I were there and a couple of others,
- 21:23Speaker 3: so I got to see some of his work early
- 21:27Speaker 3: on in his career.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Check out Playoff Hockey on TNT. Kenny Albert, the voice
- 21:31Speaker 1: of Playoff Hockey and Hockey on TNT. I am wondering Kenny,
- 21:36Speaker 1: from a broadcasting standpoint, before we let you go here,
- 21:39Speaker 1: after you did the Olympic game and called that legendary game.
- 21:43Speaker 1: It did such a tremendous job delivering that to all
- 21:46Speaker 1: the folks back here in the United States.
- 21:48Speaker 2: Was there a bit It's a weird question. Was there
- 21:51Speaker 2: a letdown for you?
- 21:52Speaker 1: Was it hard to get back into the regular season
- 21:54Speaker 1: once you return from the Olympics.
- 21:57Speaker 4: A little bit? Yeah, I'll have to win. I have
- 22:00Speaker 4: to admit those first few games.
- 22:01Speaker 3: Now, we still, you know, tried to do our best
- 22:04Speaker 3: professional job, obviously, but I think there was a little
- 22:08Speaker 3: bit just also, your body had been through so much
- 22:12Speaker 3: talked about this, you know, calling twenty four games in
- 22:16Speaker 3: seventeen or eighteen days.
- 22:17Speaker 4: For me, the travel home, not a lot of sleep.
- 22:22Speaker 3: Flying all the way from Milan via Atlanta out to
- 22:26Speaker 3: la for another game on Wednesday. And I talked to
- 22:29Speaker 3: another broadcaster who called the Olympics for one of the
- 22:32Speaker 3: Canadian networks. He said it took him about a month
- 22:34Speaker 3: for his body to kind of get back to normal.
- 22:36Speaker 3: It was a couple of weeks, you know, aside from
- 22:39Speaker 3: the time change and the jet lag I think it's
- 22:42Speaker 3: just the emotional everything we go through emotionally calling those
- 22:46Speaker 3: games and you're at such a high and like you said,
- 22:50Speaker 3: it was probably the you know, highest level game that
- 22:53Speaker 3: I've ever called and may ever called. So those first
- 22:57Speaker 3: few NHL games again, still try to you the most
- 23:00Speaker 3: professional job you can, and I don't think there was
- 23:03Speaker 3: anything that the viewers would have noticed any different, but.
- 23:06Speaker 4: Yeah, definitely were those thoughts at times.
- 23:09Speaker 3: You know, wow, it just called that gold medal game,
- 23:11Speaker 3: and you know, now it's regular season game number sixty two.
- 23:14Speaker 3: I don't want to play an They're all important, but
- 23:17Speaker 3: probably probably did feel like that for a little while.
- 23:20Speaker 3: But part of it was just how the body felt
- 23:22Speaker 3: trying to get back to normal following, you know, the excitement,
- 23:25Speaker 3: the adrenaline corricters through the Olympics. And I was actually
- 23:29Speaker 3: on Speaking of the Panthers Matthew Kachuk's podcast last week
- 23:33Speaker 3: and he really asked a similar question and alluded to
- 23:37Speaker 3: the fact that and I've heard other players say this too,
- 23:41Speaker 3: other players who were involved in that gold medal game,
- 23:43Speaker 3: that that it did take a little while to kind
- 23:46Speaker 3: of get back mentally into those regular season games. And
- 23:49Speaker 3: I think it's just human nature. After going through something
- 23:52Speaker 3: like that.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Yeah, no, has anything else changed for you, Like, have
- 23:54Speaker 1: you noticed more people noticing Kenny Albert as he's walking
- 23:57Speaker 1: through casinos in Las Vegas?
- 24:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 24:00Speaker 3: I don't know if it's necessarily more people, but a
- 24:03Speaker 3: lot of people have been so gracious to come up,
- 24:05Speaker 3: you know, whether it's at a game, at an airport,
- 24:08Speaker 3: in a hotel to mention the gold medal game. Somebody
- 24:11Speaker 3: came up to the booth last night, introduced themselves to
- 24:13Speaker 3: Eddie and I and mentioned that game and that broadcast.
- 24:17Speaker 3: So you know, it's always nice when people remember, and
- 24:20Speaker 3: sometimes people now tell you where they are when they
- 24:23Speaker 3: where they were when they were watching, so that that's
- 24:25Speaker 3: that's pretty cool. I talked about it with Jack Hughes.
- 24:29Speaker 3: Actually he played a game at Madison Square Garden and
- 24:32Speaker 3: I know him pretty well and have known his family
- 24:34Speaker 3: for a long time, and you know, we kind of
- 24:37Speaker 3: talked about and then on the on the podcast with
- 24:39Speaker 3: Matthew Kachuck as well. Uh, just the bond that that
- 24:43Speaker 3: entire team has and they've all gone back and watched
- 24:46Speaker 3: the goal many times from the broadcast, and you.
- 24:49Speaker 4: Know, it's kind of cool to be a small part.
- 24:51Speaker 3: Of that, that that our voices will be on those
- 24:55Speaker 3: highlights forever.
- 24:56Speaker 1: Very cool, all right, go out, enjoy the pool. Say
- 24:59Speaker 1: hi to bouche y Eddie. Oh everyone tell Eddio went
- 25:02Speaker 1: enough with the horses already, we get it.
- 25:03Speaker 2: It was a great derby. He won a lot of money,
- 25:05Speaker 2: all right, I mean he loves the horses.
- 25:07Speaker 4: I can't wait for the next one.
- 25:10Speaker 2: But I.
- 25:12Speaker 3: Want for having me one text's time, as you normally do.
- 25:15Speaker 2: I will yes, yes, check out, check them out t
- 25:18Speaker 2: U T hockey.
- 25:19Speaker 1: I want to have eddieo on before the Preakness, a
- 25:21Speaker 1: little Preakness preview, so I will text.
- 25:23Speaker 2: You to introduce me to Eddie. Oh yes, thanks, thank you, Keeddy.
- 25:28Speaker 2: Enjoy Vegas. Man, you're not doing it right though. I'm
- 25:31Speaker 2: just telling you that, okay,
