Transcript
- 0:00Right now. I often talk about bringing one link up with Alex Garrett to
- 0:03radio. How would that sound? Well, maybe these excerpts from my interactions
- 0:08with doctor Amanda Williams on both By the Way, AM five seventy The Mission
- 0:14WMCA and AM nine to seventy The Answer through Invite Health radio can give us
- 0:21a glimpse. We talk about the health, and we talk about our product
- 0:25formulations that invite health. And I always like to talk about new studies that
- 0:31are out there, but this one I wanted to mention to you, Alex,
- 0:34because I was like, oh, because for those of you who perhaps
- 0:38once again have not heard this show before. And Alex and I have been
- 0:41working together for many, many years, and we both have a fond love
- 0:48of music and sports, amongst other things too, but those are our kind
- 0:52of our big things. So a study came out saying the Joy of Sports,
- 0:57how watching sports can boost well being. I had to stop for a
- 1:00moment and laugh, because we oftentimes talk about you know, when you go
- 1:03to a sporting event, you can get very stressed out. How we want
- 1:07to stop by Invite Health and take our lthaning before the big games so that
- 1:11we stay nice and calm, but it is true. They said that we
- 1:17can recognize that viewing sports and going out into the community and you know,
- 1:23sitting in Yankee Stadium for example, the amount of community that that can bring.
- 1:29And I personally, you know, can you know speak to that if
- 1:32I've been in the past to you know, Red Wings games or you know,
- 1:36to Michigan football games and there is really that that sense of community when
- 1:41your team is whether you're winning or losing. I mean, look the last
- 1:45few seconds of that game against the Canadians, I felt like all of Detroit
- 1:48and whoever follows them were screaming with the overtime, with the tie going.
- 1:52You know, I know, and I'm so happy for the Rangers because you
- 1:55guys are really like just great and I hope that you guys make it all
- 1:59the way to the end and when. But yeah, it was devastating.
- 2:01And we're a young team and we do have some veteran players on the wings.
- 2:06But you know, this week I had my highs and my lows because
- 2:08we were in that must win situation on Monday night and we won, and
- 2:14you know, we scored with like a minute left to tie it up and
- 2:15go to overtime. Then we won, so I was like, okay,
- 2:17great, we get to go into Montreal and we've got a shot at it.
- 2:22And so then, you know, once again, it came down to
- 2:23the end and I'm sitting here basically pulling my hair out, going, oh
- 2:27my gosh, the season's over. And we scored with seven seconds left in
- 2:31the game, and we tied it up and once again go to overtime.
- 2:34But during that between when the third period ended and when the overtime started,
- 2:40the guys found out that the Capitals won, and because the Capitals won,
- 2:45the Wings are officially out. So it kind of went from that state of
- 2:50you know, high elation to just complete deflation. But you know what,
- 2:53there's I always say, there's always next year. So I know, if
- 2:58you're in that locker room, encourage them to watch that in between periods.
- 3:02I feel like I wouldn't even want to watch it. I just want to
- 3:05go out and win on overtime, you know. Yeah, And you could
- 3:07tell because I went to a shootout and you could just see the you know,
- 3:09just the deflation. Only won, which was great, but you know,
- 3:14it's just one of those things where there are there's highs and lows and
- 3:16it's not just for the athletes, it's for the fans too. But this
- 3:21is what they were looking at. They were looking at the impact of sports
- 3:24and being a fan on your well being. And I think that it's an
- 3:30interesting way to understand that interaction since I do talk a lot about mindfulness on
- 3:36this show, and this is why I always emphasize there's always next year.
- 3:42You know, I'm a Michigan fan our basketball. You know, season this
- 3:46year was just horrible, so I'm hopeful for next year, but there's no
- 3:51guarantee, but I'm still going to be a fan nonetheless. And so this
- 3:55research was published in the Sports Management Review Journal, and it was really quite
- 4:00fascinating just to look at the impact of being a fan and your well being.
- 4:08And at the end of it, they said, you know, even
- 4:11though you do have these kind of these highs and lows, they were looking
- 4:14at it more as you stress, And remember I've talked about this, there's
- 4:17a difference between you stress and distress. So there's bad stress. And if
- 4:24anyone wants more details on the difference between stress and burnout, for example,
- 4:28you can check out my podcast wherever you listen to podcasts, or you can
- 4:31go to invite health dot com and you can search for that particular podcast.
- 4:34But there is a distinct difference. But there's also a difference between good stress
- 4:40that you know, the body is equipped to handle and deal with and it
- 4:44is actually quite healthy for us versus bad stress. And so in this study,
- 4:49this is kind of what they were determining, was like, well,
- 4:51there's definitely a lot more you stress where you do get these highs and lows.
- 4:57But usually most fans, you know, can ext when their team loses,
- 5:01and you know, you may be kind of sad in that moment,
- 5:03but you get up and you move on. And that's how I felt after
- 5:06that, you know what happened with the Red Wings. But now I can
- 5:11now I can root for the Rangers, and I can hope that the Rangers
- 5:14you don't have success getting into the playoffs. I know, well, you
- 5:15know, they are now the President's Trophy winner for the Atlantic Conference. And
- 5:20of course, you know, people say that might be a curse because obviously
- 5:25the Bruins were there last year and got knocked out in the first round by
- 5:29a team I believe close to you, if I'm not mistaken, right,
- 5:31So that was a big deal in in Florida too that they knocked out the
- 5:36Bruins last year. But no, the Rangers coming with a different mindset.
- 5:40I think that having Jonathan Quick on their bench as a champion goalie, a
- 5:44Stanley Cup winning goalie, is going to help Shastirkin. I think they've got
- 5:46a lot going on for them right now. And you know about Matt Remby,
- 5:49right, I mean, we cannot not talk about Matt Rempy's impact this
- 5:53postseason. He's gonna have, Yeah, you know, it really is amazing,
- 5:57and you know, and just to think of once again the connection like
- 5:59you were talking about with you know, radio being a small world. Same
- 6:04thing with sports, like you know, with Wings, fans were just over
- 6:09the moon that we had Patrick Kane and I know that he did a small
- 6:13little stunt with you guys. They're at the Rangers at the tail end of
- 6:16last year. So it's it's a small world when it comes to to sports.
- 6:20And that's the year everybody was like, oh because with Kine and Tera
- 6:24Sankoh, that's the year for the Rangers. They get knocked out by the
- 6:27Devil's. But you know what, this year just looks stronger. And I
- 6:30think having Peter Love a let behind the bench as the coach is a big
- 6:33changer. And Michael Peca, I mean that's an Islander legend right there,
- 6:38coaching on the Rangers. So you talk about sports in a small world,
- 6:41how about that? It really is. I know it was even the other
- 6:45night when I was watching the Wings game, I was like, wow,
- 6:46you know this is Keith Primo's son is the goalie at Montreal. Like what
- 6:50a small world. Because I grew up as like a you know, avid
- 6:54Wings fan watching Keith Primo play for the Wings. So it's just it is,
- 6:58it's a it's such a little CV. Eiserman I still believe as your
- 7:00president, right he is he is, and you know, we are all
- 7:05happy in Detroit that he is back and he is building that team back up.
- 7:10And you know, like I said, the Detroit fans very faithful and
- 7:15very loyal, and we wait and we wait, Well, can I tell
- 7:17the story? So doctor Manna sometimes comes to the studio with us, and
- 7:20I love when she's up here in New York and she shut up the door
- 7:25and here I am in my Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions and Detroit Red Wings
- 7:29gear. I'm ready for you. Doctory let's do radio. Remember that.
- 7:32I love it. I have all the pictures still you do. You always
- 7:36go go all out when I'm up there in studio and make me feel at
- 7:43home with all of your Detroit sports stuff, and so I do have an
- 7:47appreciation for that. So thank you so much. You know, we both
- 7:51love sports, and we're both we're loyal to our teams, but we're also
- 7:57appreciative of just the athletes in general. And I'm super excited because we've We're
- 8:01gonna have so much to talk about this summer too, because we have the
- 8:03Olympics coming up, and I am one hundred in the Olympics. Less than
- 8:07one hundred days now that we're honoring one hundred days this past week, so
- 8:11less than one hundred days away, and I know you probably follow that.
- 8:13And of course the basketball team was in town this week. I think will
- 8:18be unveiled for Team USA. So there's a lot of excitement and some old
- 8:20bows is coming back, how about that. I know, I know.
- 8:24I mean, it's just it's so exciting. And I love watching swimming and
- 8:26dieting. I mean, there's I watched track and field. I love everything
- 8:31about the Olympics. It doesn't matter if it's Summer Olympics or Winter Olympics.
- 8:33We've talked about this multiple times on our radio shows, and it's just I
- 8:39just think, you know, wow, just the amount of hard work and
- 8:43dedication and effort that all of these athletes and their teams. You know,
- 8:46they're coaches behind the scenes, their families for supporting them. And you know,
- 8:50if you need help when it comes to your energy and muscle recovery,
- 8:54Invite Health has got you covered. I'm gonna tell you about some formulations that
- 8:58are wonderful for those who are very athletic in those maybe not so much on
