- 0:00Speaker 1: Hi, this is Cramp from Spider Bay. I've got my
- 0:02Speaker 1: down Garden record. Love it actually my son's record, I've
- 0:05Speaker 1: stolen it. This is the one and only Heavy mag
- 0:07Speaker 1: Rock on Astrea. I love you Heavy Mag Thank you
- 0:10Speaker 1: so much. Cram Soundgarden record out too. If we're going
- 0:13Speaker 1: to talk about heavy mag suscribe. Oh yeah, yeah, this
- 0:16Speaker 1: is actually my son's record. He's in Guatemala. He's actually
- 0:21Speaker 1: an El Salvador at the moment, but he's a fantastic drummer,
- 0:24Speaker 1: young drummer. Yeah, awesome. I remember we played with this
- 0:28Speaker 1: band the Big Day Out many years ago. And wow,
- 0:30Speaker 1: Chris rest in peace. What a legend.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:33Speaker 3: And actually my friend which you would probably know of
- 0:36Speaker 3: the other one and only, Dave Watkins. Oh yeah, he's
- 0:39Speaker 3: playing in the Chris Cornell collection at the moment where
- 0:41Speaker 3: they are.
- 0:43Speaker 1: That is fantastic Dave. That's great, you know Dave, because
- 0:46Speaker 1: I I think Dave's one of Australia's greatest musicians. Yes,
- 0:51Speaker 1: he is also a fantastic producer. Recorded so he recorded,
- 1:00Speaker 1: which is a great Heavy Mag vibe. Our track called
- 1:04Speaker 1: Straight through the Sun, which is of our last record,
- 1:06Speaker 1: was actually recorded by just me and Day that's only
- 1:10Speaker 1: just me playing and we ended up using for Spider
- 1:12Speaker 1: Beat record but it was done at Day Studio just
- 1:14Speaker 1: outside of Mullem.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:16Speaker 1: And he's a legend. He's a legend, so please say
- 1:20Speaker 1: hi to him. His gorgeous don Axiom is really cool
- 1:24Speaker 1: as well. Yeah, yeah, we need to do with Yeah,
- 1:27Speaker 1: if you got a chance. They're playing at MOS on
- 1:29Speaker 1: the thirtieth of this plastic also, yeah, that would be
- 1:33Speaker 1: so good.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Yeah, yes, yeah, so I was saying to Nicole before,
- 1:35Speaker 3: I think our kids even went to the same school.
- 1:38Speaker 2: On stage, I was at Patty's parent that's amazing.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Yeah, well that's where Lonnie went. Yeah, that's a really
- 1:43Speaker 1: good But they're both really really good musicians. I think
- 1:46Speaker 1: it's interested to talk to other musician friends. I mean,
- 1:50Speaker 1: how many kids become musicians because of their parents or whatever.
- 1:54Speaker 1: But yeah, really really proud of my kids. They both
- 1:56Speaker 1: got up on stage with us and my other band
- 1:59Speaker 1: are on a number of occasions. So yeah, it's good guy.
- 2:03Speaker 1: I mean, it's good to see. It's great to see
- 2:06Speaker 1: that love music is so important. But I also read
- 2:10Speaker 1: an article saying how the upsurge in heavy music not
- 2:17Speaker 1: just live but on record and on listening platforms and
- 2:22Speaker 1: the way the world is right now, which is so
- 2:24Speaker 1: full of frustration for so many people, and cleaning myself
- 2:28Speaker 1: and what who's who's running it or not not doing
- 2:30Speaker 1: a very good job of it internationally, and everyone's really
- 2:33Speaker 1: worried about the future. And I think really thrashing out
- 2:36Speaker 1: to incredible heavy music. I know we've always felt that's
- 2:40Speaker 1: a great way to find some positivity. And Janet mentioned
- 2:46Speaker 1: something the other day that a friend of hers used
- 2:49Speaker 1: to work on the door at a really famous venue
- 2:52Speaker 1: in Melbourne, and she said, the metal fans are always
- 2:55Speaker 1: the nicest, They're always the sweetest, nicest people because we're
- 2:59Speaker 1: the myth. Where the myth it's we're the weirdos, and
- 3:02Speaker 1: we gravitate towards you. Then we can understand one another. Yes,
- 3:05Speaker 1: which is why why our new record is nearly nearly all,
- 3:08Speaker 1: almost all entirely metal. So I'm just I've written some
- 3:13Speaker 1: a lot of really heavy, heavy songs of this new record,
- 3:17Speaker 1: even though we're here to talk about IVY thirty years ago.
- 3:20Speaker 1: But the next record, which we were released next year,
- 3:23Speaker 1: is all. Yes, I've just I got this bec rich
- 3:26Speaker 1: guitar and I haven't stopped writing metal roofs. It's been sick.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Oh my god, I wish I had it with me.
- 3:31Speaker 1: I put it up in front of the screen.
- 3:33Speaker 2: You don't see behind me, my green screen, but I
- 3:35Speaker 2: know I love that's full of basses. So I play
- 3:40Speaker 2: bass as well.
- 3:40Speaker 1: So I think any fans out there who are interested,
- 3:44Speaker 1: it's a it's a black BC rich iron bird mark one,
- 3:48Speaker 1: which is like like playing guitar in the shape of
- 3:51Speaker 1: the Millennium falcon. It's really really cool.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Yeah, like it was at the Flying V like.
- 3:55Speaker 1: The similar sort of lots of angles, like if you
- 3:58Speaker 1: if you turn it the wrong way, you've poky eye
- 4:01Speaker 1: out by the state, that sort of thing.
- 4:03Speaker 3: Yeah, we love and look you're right, like the heavy
- 4:06Speaker 3: music scene is it's coming out like more and more,
- 4:10Speaker 3: like obviously traditionally a lot of you know, for the
- 4:13Speaker 3: Australians they export themselves because the scene obviously so you know,
- 4:18Speaker 3: predominant like in Europe and whatnot. But seeing more and
- 4:21Speaker 3: more the and like it's coming about now. But also
- 4:26Speaker 3: to talking to like I said, to a lot of
- 4:28Speaker 3: podcasts with artists all over the world and a lot
- 4:30Speaker 3: of in European like who are like traditional like heavy
- 4:33Speaker 3: hardcore that they have quite a big Australian based fan
- 4:36Speaker 3: base and they come out really really you encouraging.
- 4:40Speaker 1: And yeah, surprising. I mean we so we did a
- 4:44Speaker 1: tour of Europe plus year. It was our first international
- 4:46Speaker 1: tour for a number of years and yeah, we had
- 4:49Speaker 1: a fantastic tour of the UK. We went through Europe, Mainland, Europe,
- 4:52Speaker 1: London was amazing. But the biggest surprise of the tour
- 4:56Speaker 1: is the final show at the Poland Rock Festival. Yes,
- 4:59Speaker 1: and it was just huge. I reckon there was one
- 5:02Speaker 1: hundred thousand people at this gig to see us. We
- 5:04Speaker 1: couldn't believe it. With one tiny Australian flag, So anyone
- 5:07Speaker 1: who's been to festivals in Europe, everyone gets the flags up.
- 5:10Speaker 1: There's like no war flags, and there's like, you know,
- 5:13Speaker 1: rainbow flags and it's all really awesome and power and
- 5:17Speaker 1: I just was like, this is sick. And I really
- 5:19Speaker 1: tried to get the crowd going with me and singing
- 5:21Speaker 1: and getting into the songs, and they just came along
- 5:24Speaker 1: and it was we couldn't believe that people knew who
- 5:26Speaker 1: we were and wanted to come and see us. And
- 5:29Speaker 1: that's I think that's the power of that. Probably Black
- 5:31Speaker 1: Betty is a bit part of that, but just just
- 5:35Speaker 1: the heavy. One of the greatest things I love about
- 5:38Speaker 1: heavy music is that it's a great protection. It's like
- 5:41Speaker 1: your beautiful suit of armor. So if the gig has
- 5:43Speaker 1: got one hundred thousand people, awesome, if two people awesome,
- 5:47Speaker 1: doesn't matter, because you say into the rips and into
- 5:50Speaker 1: the vibe that it protects you from something like say pop,
- 5:56Speaker 1: which is very much determined on whether something's popular or not.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Metal and heavier music is a lot more about the energy.
- 6:03Speaker 1: It really is sort of similar to similar to a
- 6:05Speaker 1: music like jazz in that way where you're you're so
- 6:07Speaker 1: absorbed in elect Yeah, yeah, exactly, so absorbed in the
- 6:12Speaker 1: in the art form that you sometimes forget anything else
- 6:15Speaker 1: around you. But it's apart from your instrument and the
- 6:17Speaker 1: song that you're involved in.
- 6:19Speaker 3: So it's beautiful like that, so true, and even going
- 6:21Speaker 3: like I remember that one of the first times I
- 6:23Speaker 3: went to see like a full like deathcore metal, I
- 6:25Speaker 3: had to cover a gig and it was I think
- 6:28Speaker 3: it was Who Healed the prom Queen at the Tivolay.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Yeah, and I've walked in it.
- 6:31Speaker 3: And I'm like, you know it doesn't, not that I
- 6:33Speaker 3: don't love the real heavy stuff, but it wasn't something
- 6:35Speaker 3: I experienced firsthand.
- 6:37Speaker 1: And oh my god, that wall of sound just goes.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Through you and it's like a bout when you're calling.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Yeah, it's amazing. It is as technically one of my
- 6:47Speaker 1: old time well two of my old time favorite trained
- 6:50Speaker 1: bands in this genre are christ Babe and another band
- 6:53Speaker 1: from Melbourne called Damaged Are You? And I don't know
- 6:56Speaker 1: if anyone as who's listening or watching this interest, but
- 7:00Speaker 1: check out Damaged on YouTube. I don't even I don't
- 7:04Speaker 1: have a record of theirs, but Jamie is an incredible
- 7:06Speaker 1: singer and Matt the drama was just one of the
- 7:08Speaker 1: greatest dramas I've ever seen, and just just the power
- 7:12Speaker 1: of that band live. You couldn't understand the word Jamie's
- 7:15Speaker 1: singing because he's singing in that sort of grand call way.
- 7:18Speaker 1: And then when he tell you these lyrics are great, man.
- 7:21Speaker 1: But just like you said, the power of the overall
- 7:23Speaker 1: sound and watching the technicality of the musicians generally just
- 7:29Speaker 1: usually a bunch of guys or girls who have just
- 7:30Speaker 1: been playing guitar in their bedrooms listening to something. I
- 7:35Speaker 1: remember when I first heard Nap I'm Death and I
- 7:37Speaker 1: just thought it was the greatest thing I'd ever heard.
- 7:39Speaker 1: The same but similar to sort of interesting. I should
- 7:43Speaker 1: mention the word damage, but one of my favorite records
- 7:46Speaker 1: is Black Flags Damaged, which I would encourage anyone to get.
- 7:49Speaker 1: It's so low, fine and mega but power in a
- 7:53Speaker 1: different way, not as technical, more punk, and it was
- 7:55Speaker 1: really great. So yeah, yeah, we could talk about this stuff.
- 7:58Speaker 2: For ever what we really feel.
- 8:07Speaker 3: So I have to, you know, can't go without noting
- 8:10Speaker 3: you guys have been inducted into the Aria Hall of Fame, Like, yeah,
- 8:14Speaker 3: that's thank you.
- 8:15Speaker 2: It is so wonderful to see.
- 8:17Speaker 3: I mean, you guys have been part of my my
- 8:21Speaker 3: my misspent youth into my love of rock and roll
- 8:24Speaker 3: and el things heavy metal and the rest of it.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Since the summer that changed my life, which we had
- 8:31Speaker 3: around here, some incredible festivals alliance that you will never
- 8:33Speaker 3: see again. Yeah, and I mean I've seen you guys
- 8:36Speaker 3: play with all the all the Austrain greats. You know,
- 8:41Speaker 3: I just finished doing the Gourge like their tour castod
- 8:43Speaker 3: you've got on coming on with you on the tour.
- 8:47Speaker 3: You guys were quite essential parts of our misspent youth
- 8:50Speaker 3: and our lives of our vintage. How does it feel
- 8:54Speaker 3: for you guys to where you started three three misfeaits
- 8:57Speaker 3: at high school to now Aria Hall of Fame inductees.
- 9:00Speaker 3: It's pretty pretty well, but thirty years almost sounds illegal
- 9:03Speaker 3: to say as well.
- 9:06Speaker 1: It's weird. It's strange that we should be doing this
- 9:08Speaker 1: tour to celebrate, you know, one of our great records
- 9:12Speaker 1: and you know, when we won the Hottest one hundred
- 9:14Speaker 1: for the first time and all of that, but also
- 9:17Speaker 1: being inducted this year at the same time, it seems
- 9:20Speaker 1: really appropriate. We're really happy about it's beautiful, We're really
- 9:24Speaker 1: you know, thankful for the honor. It is a bit unexpected,
- 9:28Speaker 1: I know, like when I was talking to my dear
- 9:29Speaker 1: friend Davey Lane from you Am I when those guys
- 9:31Speaker 1: got in last year, I'm like, man, it's so sick.
- 9:33Speaker 1: I'm so happy for you. And I was genuinely happy. Yeah,
- 9:37Speaker 1: but I did not even think, oh jeez, I can't
- 9:41Speaker 1: wait to get in, or I wish we could get in.
- 9:43Speaker 1: It wasn't really on our radar at all. Yeah, So
- 9:46Speaker 1: when it did come about, remember me and we're talking
- 9:48Speaker 1: about this the other they we're like, oh really, oh okay,
- 9:50Speaker 1: that's great, cool, awesome. You know, so our manager was
- 9:54Speaker 1: in tears. I go, it's the gross you know. Oh.
- 9:56Speaker 1: So we're very we're very thankful, but it was a
- 9:59Speaker 1: happy for the unexpected honor that we're very proud to receive.
- 10:04Speaker 1: So we're looking forward to the nine Heaps and then
- 10:07Speaker 1: then the tour kicks off after that. It's it's going
- 10:09Speaker 1: to be a really really funny year. So yeah, thanks
- 10:11Speaker 1: a lot for those beautiful five stuff.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Yeah, no, it's good.
- 10:14Speaker 3: As I said, you guys have been you know, there's
- 10:16Speaker 3: been no changes in.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Spider about you guys.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Three of you have just locked in doneything.
- 10:21Speaker 3: Yeah, so amazing to see live, which there's much at
- 10:25Speaker 3: singing runs.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Last year, that was a great year. We decided to
- 10:30Speaker 1: do a little it's like a little club I guess
- 10:34Speaker 1: tour Summer Tool, which you've done over the last few years.
- 10:36Speaker 1: We're going to sometimes we go to Talkie or go
- 10:37Speaker 1: over to Perth or whatever.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think the Bruns one was the best
- 10:41Speaker 1: of the three. Was absolutely awesome and as a local
- 10:44Speaker 1: and my son's band and my daughter's band play and
- 10:49Speaker 1: also that fantastic band I started from from Kingscliffe, and
- 10:53Speaker 1: I realized because I decided to be the stupid MC
- 10:56Speaker 1: off the night classic local Proud Dad, and then I
- 11:00Speaker 1: like that these are all local musicians, every single one
- 11:03Speaker 1: of these bands come from And then I realized that
- 11:06Speaker 1: we are included in that. We all grew up together,
- 11:08Speaker 1: we all went to school together, and there is a
- 11:12Speaker 1: power in staying together if you can manage it. Great lineups,
- 11:18Speaker 1: some some bands have lineup changes obviously, yeah, like I'm
- 11:22Speaker 1: about to do this Eagles tour as well, which has
- 11:24Speaker 1: got like so many lives, so many lineup changes, but
- 11:28Speaker 1: it is really nice to look over and see the
- 11:30Speaker 1: same thing. And when we were doing we were doing
- 11:32Speaker 1: a bunch of press through our social media company just
- 11:36Speaker 1: recently for to start promoting this on the Aria thing
- 11:40Speaker 1: as well. We had looked at all these clips of
- 11:44Speaker 1: us years ago and I'm like, wow, just check it out.
- 11:47Speaker 1: It's amazing you forget yourself things that you said, the
- 11:51Speaker 1: way you used to play, and we kind of still
- 11:53Speaker 1: played the same way. I'm still looking like my time
- 11:54Speaker 1: hanging out of my head thing as I did.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Then you remind me so much of my brother. He
- 11:58Speaker 2: was a drummer blessing.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it's nice to look it's nice to look
- 12:02Speaker 1: back and then in a ways to look forward, but
- 12:05Speaker 1: also really happy to be where we are in the present. Yeah.
- 12:10Speaker 3: And you know, speaking of that, you're being a drummer
- 12:12Speaker 3: and singing like that's something that is just not done
- 12:15Speaker 3: very rarely at which you managed to do.
- 12:18Speaker 1: So well, how how for you does it?
- 12:21Speaker 2: Does it transpire?
- 12:23Speaker 1: I really I really like it. I mean I do
- 12:27Speaker 1: it in both my bands. I just really enjoy the vibes.
- 12:34Speaker 1: So I did this thing. I'd really noticed something. So
- 12:38Speaker 1: afterd A we did a led Zeppelin show a couple
- 12:40Speaker 1: of years ago. We did led Zeppelin four and I
- 12:46Speaker 1: was the lead singer. I think I've said I think
- 12:47Speaker 1: I played like three songs, but they got Pete Maronan
- 12:51Speaker 1: to play the John Bonhams drumming, and I'm like, lead
- 12:54Speaker 1: singing is sick. This is oh my god. You know.
- 12:59Speaker 1: It was like it's just you just do whatever you want,
- 13:01Speaker 1: have to carry anything. It was that's the best. So yeah,
- 13:05Speaker 1: drumming and singing is fun, but lead singing is all
- 13:07Speaker 1: time fun as long as it's like something like you're
- 13:09Speaker 1: playing led Zeppelin or some so everything I've written ever
- 13:12Speaker 1: since then has just been like sounds like Zeppelin or
- 13:17Speaker 1: Sabbath or like Heavy, because I'm just in that vibe
- 13:20Speaker 1: so much. But I feel very comfortable on drums and singing,
- 13:25Speaker 1: and with us it works really well because you've got
- 13:29Speaker 1: this amazing counterpoint to work with, which is Channet. Yeah,
- 13:33Speaker 1: she wasn't a musician hardly at all when she first
- 13:36Speaker 1: started playing with us. Wow, she learnt really quickly. And
- 13:40Speaker 1: then she never sang hardly at all and thought he
- 13:43Speaker 1: was the first song she ever sang. And then and
- 13:45Speaker 1: then we're making this record, we're about to do live
- 13:50Speaker 1: and she starts singing Calypso in the studio and we're
- 13:53Speaker 1: just like, whoh, who the hell is that? And it
- 13:55Speaker 1: was a spine tingling moment where this soft voice that
- 13:59Speaker 1: she sort of started to use has now become part
- 14:02Speaker 1: of the Australian musical culture. And that's one of the
- 14:05Speaker 1: great things I love about bands, is that sort of
- 14:07Speaker 1: accidental heroes who become legends. I see her and Adelidas
- 14:11Speaker 1: two of my all time heroes.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Oh sweet, yes, yeah, well two with you as well.
- 14:19Speaker 1: Yes, so magic is playing with I mean the lineup,
- 14:21Speaker 1: the lineup that's put together has been fantastic. Playing with
- 14:26Speaker 1: the Meanis, who are one of them who we are
- 14:29Speaker 1: very first gig ever at the Tote Hotel in Melbourne
- 14:33Speaker 1: we played with the Meanings and we just love the
- 14:35Speaker 1: meaning so much. Playing with Custod and Brisbane is going
- 14:38Speaker 1: to be sick. I can't wait to see Dave. I
- 14:39Speaker 1: haven't seen him for years and so I'm sure that
- 14:42Speaker 1: the fans are going to come out for Custard one
- 14:44Speaker 1: of the all time great bands. Yeah, that's what I'm becovering.
- 14:47Speaker 1: So I mean it's important to if people haven't checked
- 14:52Speaker 1: out and Dave such a fantastic people obviously know him
- 14:55Speaker 1: as as as as part of Louis for so long now,
- 14:57Speaker 1: but it's such a such a great pop writer and
- 15:01Speaker 1: such a fantastic lyricist, like the very very scathing humor surnist.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Kind of a classic, a classic nineties band, but also
- 15:14Speaker 1: I think very progressive. I think he was in lyrics.
- 15:16Speaker 1: There's also another band called The Gnomes who are playing
- 15:19Speaker 1: with us, who we love from from Melbourny. Young band
- 15:21Speaker 1: doing the whole tour and they're just worth getting there
- 15:23Speaker 1: early to see. I think they're going to be a
- 15:25Speaker 1: huge band. Magic Dirt's playing with us as well, Tumbleweed.
- 15:29Speaker 1: I mean, it's just like it's all our favorite bands
- 15:31Speaker 1: of all time, which is it seems like the right
- 15:35Speaker 1: mix for this fairly sentimental tour after we did the
- 15:38Speaker 1: Betty Tour a couple of years ago, so that whole core.
- 15:44Speaker 3: Yeah, he spent youth about vintage and you guys definitely
- 15:47Speaker 3: have your own part is.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Yes, don't drive home, don't drive transport.
- 15:55Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, No, I'm much much looking forward to it obviously,
- 15:58Speaker 3: you know, thank you, trip Back Time and IVY was
- 16:01Speaker 3: such such a big album. It just if for me
- 16:05Speaker 3: to look back and think about Spider Bay and those days.
- 16:07Speaker 3: I just can feature the album cover and that's it.
- 16:09Speaker 3: It's I used to go on other CD all the time.
- 16:12Speaker 1: And where is that? That's why That's why we used
- 16:16Speaker 1: it for the poster. And it's also i mean, apart
- 16:19Speaker 1: from you know, all of the Hall of Fame, we're
- 16:23Speaker 1: very proud of, and you know, Black Betty's huge success
- 16:26Speaker 1: all around the world we're really proud of. And you know,
- 16:29Speaker 1: one of the things we are very proud of is
- 16:31Speaker 1: the fact that we're the first Australian band to win
- 16:33Speaker 1: the hotest one hundred. It's not just that, but the
- 16:35Speaker 1: fact that that song it's it's a it's my scathing
- 16:40Speaker 1: rebuke of the fickleness of the record business. You know,
- 16:44Speaker 1: it's about as negative a song as you can get,
- 16:46Speaker 1: and everyone loved it, and it was like so they
- 16:48Speaker 1: really understood where I was coming from and and that's
- 16:52Speaker 1: one of them. That's a proud moment for us as well.
- 16:55Speaker 1: And that's that's obviously on this record. So this record
- 16:57Speaker 1: wasn't was a turning point for us, So where I
- 16:59Speaker 1: guess we're celebrating that as much as the record itself
- 17:02Speaker 1: around We never we never expected to be, you know,
- 17:07Speaker 1: a band's playing one hundred thousand people at the festival
- 17:09Speaker 1: in Poland, or playing huge shows all around the country
- 17:12Speaker 1: and being around for over thirty years when we first started.
- 17:15Speaker 1: So it's that is a really nice realization this year
- 17:19Speaker 1: for sure.
- 17:19Speaker 3: I mean and to me, I'm sure other fans, you
- 17:22Speaker 3: guys aged really well, we pretty much look crazy, so
- 17:27Speaker 3: I said, And Comman's another one. I'm like, dude, like
- 17:30Speaker 3: you don't age, like what's the key the secret?
- 17:32Speaker 1: And canurge you similar that I don't know, just don't
- 17:35Speaker 1: ask questions the same. It's good. Yeah, exactly for sure. Yeah.
- 17:42Speaker 3: Look, one of my I'd have to say, my old
- 17:44Speaker 3: time favorite Spider Bay song is hands down Old Man Sam.
- 17:48Speaker 1: It's a bizarre song like it's it really is, and
- 17:52Speaker 1: that was written when I was fifteen years old in
- 17:57Speaker 1: so it's a very odd tune and it's that was
- 18:03Speaker 1: also a really big turning point. That's the song where
- 18:06Speaker 1: we basically changed from we went on stage at the
- 18:10Speaker 1: Sydney Big Day Out. There's I don't know if anyone
- 18:13Speaker 1: knows the record we put out a few years ago,
- 18:15Speaker 1: which is Sounds of the Kid j which is all
- 18:18Speaker 1: the Janet's songs, so that the cover of that record
- 18:22Speaker 1: is hearst is that that gig Big Day Out and
- 18:25Speaker 1: just heard standing there thirty thirty five thousand or whatever
- 18:28Speaker 1: it is at the old Sydney Showgrounds HU the day
- 18:33Speaker 1: that that song it. I think it's a bit I
- 18:37Speaker 1: don't know, it's a bit like that, you know the
- 18:38Speaker 1: Chats for Pet great song Smoker, right, which was the
- 18:41Speaker 1: song they it was like everyone just went is a
- 18:47Speaker 1: bit like that And when we went on stage we
- 18:49Speaker 1: played it and they just went nuts and we came
- 18:51Speaker 1: off stage. We came off stage a different band than
- 18:54Speaker 1: we went on stage, and that's what that's what one
- 18:56Speaker 1: song can do. But I loved it. It was so
- 18:58Speaker 1: absurdist and bizarre, written in a backyard in the backyard
- 19:02Speaker 1: of a tiny country town when we're fifteen years old.
- 19:04Speaker 3: So it was and had become an anthem from many
- 19:07Speaker 3: of us exactly underage.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Or I know, I know, and it still just goes.
- 19:14Speaker 1: I mean, we did it at the Grand Prix last
- 19:16Speaker 1: year and and Michael from King Giza got up and
- 19:19Speaker 1: played with us, and who's from Deliloquent, so Michael really
- 19:24Speaker 1: comes from very close to Finland and we love gears
- 19:27Speaker 1: amazing and the crowds went nuts and just like, this
- 19:30Speaker 1: is so funny playing old man with the Grand Prix
- 19:33Speaker 1: in front of thousands of people.
- 19:34Speaker 3: Are just like, you know, I did a couple of
- 19:37Speaker 3: it and he's like a few weeks ago and again
- 19:41Speaker 3: the Crown.
- 19:41Speaker 2: Just love it.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Just it's mad. It's very very Australian idea in that way, which.
- 19:47Speaker 2: Is forgiving if you get it wrong as well.
- 19:49Speaker 1: You can't really get it wrong, you can't. We once did.
- 19:53Speaker 1: We once did a version of that. We once played
- 19:56Speaker 1: this pizza pizza shop in Melbourne. This is way way
- 19:59Speaker 1: years years ago, yep, and Almen Sam was one of
- 20:02Speaker 1: the It's funny if you look at the old setlist
- 20:04Speaker 1: from that era, Old Man Sam's the only song that
- 20:07Speaker 1: you would know. And we did such a long version
- 20:10Speaker 1: and people just kept coming out of the crowd and
- 20:12Speaker 1: singing a verse and then jumping back into the wash
- 20:14Speaker 1: pit thirty five minutes and it's made it up, you know,
- 20:17Speaker 1: it's made it up. It was very, very funny.
- 20:19Speaker 2: So thank you so much, Cram.
- 20:21Speaker 3: It's been a pleasure chatting with you and I look
- 20:23Speaker 3: forward to catching you guys in in bris Vegas later.
- 20:27Speaker 1: On next month. It is thanks a lot, see soon,
- 20:30Speaker 1: Bye bye,
